The Edge Breakfast - OVERTHINKERS | 118 | Clint thinks he's hot

Episode Date: September 9, 2026

The team navigates home tenancy panic, relationship dynamics, and high-stakes self-assessments. Dan reveals a growing domestic crisis involving a decaying fruit tree that belonged to his landlord's m...other, a misidentification of citrus varieties, and the silent treatment over text. Clint brings a theory to the table about "punching" above your weight class in relationships, questioning whether lower-rated partners actually see themselves as lower-rated or if they’re settling for less than a 10. Finally, the trio plays a deadly rating game where they must guess where 100 strangers would place them on a 1-to-10 scale within a 0.5 margin of error, leading to wild overestimations, surprisingly low self-esteem, and unexpected compliments.

Starting point is 00:00:00 This is a podcast from Rover. This is the Overthinkers podcast. Gora, thanks for joining us. What would you guys do just quickly before we get into the meat of the podcast, Meg? We talked about it a bit on the radio show the other day, how I've got a lemon tree in the front yard. We rent our house. And the lemon tree is the pride and joy of our landlord,
Starting point is 00:00:24 whose mother planted it many years ago. And when we moved in, he said, please take care of the lemon tree. My mother planted it when we were kids. Lemon tree's dead. I did the thing with the knife. I did the thing. It's dry as a bone on the inside. Someone said if you go and scratch the bark off,
Starting point is 00:00:42 if it's green underneath, it's still got life in it. Yeah. And it's quite a... Hannah lost sleep on it last night. My wife, she was like, I couldn't sleep last night because I don't know what to do. Like, anyway, I messaged the landlord last night about 8pm saying,
Starting point is 00:00:57 Hi Dave, I hope you're having a good week. We have been... Because this will ruin it. This is going to ruin it. We have a bit of a situation with the mandarin tree in the front yard. I thought it was a lemon tree. Hannah's correct to me.
Starting point is 00:01:09 It's a mandarin tree. What? How bad is you're gardening? That's so different. Well, it's like a funny Mandarin though. You know, like I don't think it's even been a healthy tree because they look very small. It's obviously being sick for a while. I was putting our yellow mandarin.
Starting point is 00:01:21 Yeah. It's been progressively looking less happy over the last few weeks. Tried watering it on the dry days and we went to plant a barn a few weeks ago, and they suggested some fertilizer, which we tried, but to no success. In the last week, it's taken a turn for the worst. Just wanted to let you know, and if you want to try and remedy it yourself, you're more than welcome. And then I sent a photo of said tree, and all its brown, depressing looks.
Starting point is 00:01:43 They've left me on scene. Oh, because they're still crying. Did you piss on it? Because a lot of people said do-ease on it. No, I couldn't bring myself to do that. It's like rubbing salt in the world. Yeah, and I think it's past. It's like peeing on a dead body.
Starting point is 00:01:55 You know, like, I feel like it's kind of... That's not a saying. No, but, you know, like, that's like trying to do CPR on something when Rigger Mortis is already set in. Yeah. Like, I think it's past the point of piss being able to fix it. I'm not going to save it. So, and he's always messages back very quickly, and they've left me on scene. I think you've really missed an opportunity here to just dig it up and put a fresh one in.
Starting point is 00:02:15 Now, you've admitted it. There's no going back. Yeah, we discussed that, but then you'd notice. You'd notice. Yeah, but when was the last time he was around? He comes around quite often, like every three or four months. Because he does a lot of the gardening. And here's my other thing.
Starting point is 00:02:28 He likes doing the gardening and landscaping himself. So can we blame him? Because he comes around quite often does some weeding and stuff. And I'm like, oh, you didn't care for your tree. If it gets to that point, you're going to have to. If he starts threatening you, you'll be like, actually, you're the landscaper. Yeah, so I don't know. If anybody's got some advice, please get in touch with us on the overthinking.
Starting point is 00:02:46 That isn't piss on it. Yeah, feed. But we've already had that advice. Yeah, what are we doing now? Today on the Overthinkers podcast. We're overthinking. I think I got sent it. you got something, Clint?
Starting point is 00:02:57 Well, yeah, it was a conversation we were just having briefly off here. I was like, maybe it's one to bring on here. I've pondered this before, and it's because I have a, maybe I should just ask my mate, but I have a mate who is easily punching in his relationship, which is great. Everyone wants to be the one punching, right, rather than that they say Settler-Reacher. Nothing wrong with it. Somebody messaged me on my Instagram was like, oh my God, Clint, love you, but you are punching so hard with your wife.
Starting point is 00:03:23 I was like, great. Everyone wants that. I think as a guy you want to be punching as a girl, I feel like it's less so. Like if someone said to you, Meg, you're punching. If someone said to you Meg, you're punching, I feel like you'd be offended, then most women would. I personally, being myself, I wouldn't be offended.
Starting point is 00:03:39 I like the, I'm the same. I kind of like the fact that people think my husband's hot. I've always said that. We've always said that. But I do think it's less seen as, and I think it's like, people are nastier to like the, in theory, more unattractive woman and hotter guy. People were like,
Starting point is 00:03:53 he's gay or he's cheating on you like constantly is that would there be anybody willing to admit that their partner's punching I don't think so my mate is a I want to be nice so I'll give him a next year a couple of points
Starting point is 00:04:08 I know who you're talking about and I know who you're talking about with her it's so obvious Are you talking about me? No I know can I quit I'm going to write it down so people can't see He's like a five and she's like
Starting point is 00:04:19 a Can I see who it is? Is that who you mean? Can I see? Is that who you mean? Oh, God, yes. Is that who you mean? Yeah, well, it's...
Starting point is 00:04:28 I think cameras everywhere, so I'm going to... I feel like he's got a better personality, though. Okay, but I'm going to say, if he's a five, she's like a nine. Eight, nine, yeah. And so I'm going, do four and fives out of tens. Obviously, they find nine and tens attractive because the world does, right? But do four out of tens find four out of tens attractive? because they're, you know, they're playing, you know, in the same division.
Starting point is 00:04:59 No, especially men. Or are they like, I'm just going to have to settle for a four because I'm a four. I don't think there are many four or five men that are actually four or fives that genuinely think they're four or fives that then could only get four or five. I think they think that they could get all the tens. So I saw a woman. This was really interesting, Klan. I saw a woman on TikTok go viral the other day because she left a comment on a
Starting point is 00:05:19 Bodeify 10 guy, a guy that was like, he's famous because he's hot sort of thing. He's gotten TikTok famous because he is so attractive. But like Clint. And she had posted up a photo of herself and shot her shot. She, you know, which is what we all tell people to do. Shoot you shot. Who knows? And she kind of wrote a bit of a description about herself.
Starting point is 00:05:37 And that comment became the most liked in commentant because people were like the audacity to think you could get him and he'd be interested in you. And she was like, but he's my type. We're like, well, he's everyone's type. You know, and it's such an interesting question because she sees it as like, well, that's not my fault that my type. that my type is a 10 out of 10 guy with washboard abs, but she isn't in theory a 10 out of 10 washboard ass lady. Whose type isn't
Starting point is 00:06:01 that though? Exactly. My type on paper I hope would be like a 10 out of 10 hot girl. My question is I guess if you're a 3, 4 or 5, are you just settling in all of your relationships and not really all that happy because you've settled for a 5 because that's what you
Starting point is 00:06:17 can get when you're wanting a 9 out or 10 out of 10 hotie? Or do they see fives as 10 out of tens because they're in theory, or we should say we are, Zandh, why we say we say there? No, but I'm not, no, but we're saying, because we are, we see
Starting point is 00:06:33 five out of fives as tens because we are also on that level. Sad to guy. I don't think, so you, but I don't think you should ever, if you're settling in a relationship, you were in the wrong relationship. Yeah, I agree. There's no feeling of settling. You're not, like you're obviously compromising to get this person. No. And that's what that lady
Starting point is 00:06:51 said she was going to have to do. Yeah. I think, girls will give guys a lot more points for personality than guys will give girls. 100%. Me and I have this conversation all the time where you'll quite consistently see a 10 out of 10 girl with a guy who is maybe not a 10 out of 10, but he's the funniest guy in the room. And I said, swap it the other way around. And I said, find a girl who is like kind of not known as for being pretty.
Starting point is 00:07:14 She's in theory, let's say what you'd say societally is ugly. But she is the fucking bombest, funniest personality. he's not wanting to get with her. She is now his best friend. Yeah, but isn't that sad? It doesn't happen that way, does it? What would you guys rate yourself if you could give yourselves one to ten? And who's ten?
Starting point is 00:07:33 Who's ten? You've got to tell me who is the ten? No, no. Chris Hemsworth? No, because the paradigm's different for different people. So, like, you might, one person might think that Chris Hemsworth is the ultimate. Another person might think that fucking Susan Boyle is the hottest woman they've ever seen. It's subjective.
Starting point is 00:07:47 It's like the most perfect human being that you could be looks like. Just don't overthink it. Just where would you put yourself? And in the world, like out of all the world, yeah, I'll write down with mine. Like honestly, and you can do points. You can do a point. Like you do a 6.5 or a 9.7. Can we, okay, we promise to be honest and we're not going to do too lower to look.
Starting point is 00:08:08 And we're known to look like, oh, I'm humble. We're promised we're putting in it what we think. Yeah, and be honest, 100% honest. Out of the world. If you put me on a scale. from one to tens out of the world. No, you don't have to weigh yourself. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:08:32 It's so hard, isn't it? I've got my number of where I think I, if I, if I said you're going to lose your life if you don't get within a half a point. Yeah, you've got to get within half a point of what the average of a hundred people would rate you. And then they gave you an average. If you're not within point five, you die.
Starting point is 00:08:51 Okay, I reckon that's fear. I reckon I'm within point five of what 100 people would say I was. Oh, this is tricky. So now I'm thinking about what other people would say. I was thinking about what I would say. No, no. What you think you'll, you will pass away. Society.
Starting point is 00:09:05 You don't get it within point five. Point five of what 100 people would average you out to be. Okay, and then I think what we do is we put this up online. I'm happy with that. We put this video up online and say if people agree or disagree. Are we willing to put ourselves out there with that? Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:21 Let's start with Clint's number, first name in the show anyway. Clint has rated himself that he thinks he would If he didn't get within 0.5 either side, a 7.9. So essentially, he's an 8. He's an 8. I can go anywhere from 7.4 to 8.4. Yeah. Can I have mine back? No.
Starting point is 00:09:44 I think that's where 100 people were somewhere that put me there. I think it's 7.9. I don't die. Let's not comment, but I feel like that is, yep. Why, you think it's too high? I'm not going to say. Do you think it's too high? I mean, I'm the wrong person to be voting on clip because I don't find them attractive. I put my number as, so I'm just going to do...
Starting point is 00:10:06 If you were gay, you'd so want to have sex with me. My range... Nah, you fart too much. It'd turn me off. Okay, I put my number, if I die, if I don't get 0.5 either side, is 5.7. Yeah, you're higher than that. No, wait. You'd be so dead.
Starting point is 00:10:22 You're way higher than that. I think you guys know me... What'd you give yourself a 5 or something? 5.7, yeah. I reckon face alone. you're higher than Clint. Boys, if it's a lot of men that are voting, they vote lots on just looking at bod.
Starting point is 00:10:36 And I haven't got the bod at the moment. So, wow, Dan. Okay. Why did you get five, seven? No, no. No, you are. Get on you. I'm very impressed. I was this way he wanted his number back.
Starting point is 00:10:47 I'm very impressed. Oh, but I was voting on what people I think people would say. Yes, and that's what I voted mine, 5.7. I think I wouldn't die. Dan has put himself as a seven. So anywhere between a 7.5 and a 6.5 That's pouting.
Starting point is 00:11:05 What do you think? In theory, Clinton and Dan would cross over. It's, you know, with some people. I'm just going on from what I've seen feedback wise. I definitely think out of the three of us... I personally would put myself at a three. Out of the three of us, Meigs the first to die.
Starting point is 00:11:21 The most likely I think to die. You are instantly... I cannot disagree with you boys more. Like, you guys are lovely to me and you know me so well, but if you get 100 male strangers, there's no way I'm getting higher than a 5.7. You are, I put my hand on the Bible and say you were one of the most...
Starting point is 00:11:37 But you know me. Wait, make sure you know what you're going to say before you hand on the Bible. I'm going to say, you're not even religious. I think you're a whole thing. But we've got a big meeting at the moment now, so we've got to go in... What's the big meeting?
Starting point is 00:11:53 We've got an hour-long meeting talking about how we side. Oh, no, it could be about how we great. I think it'll be a mixed bag. It'll be a pot of party. I forgot about it with me. Do you think it's going to be one of those sandwiches? Yeah. Hey guys, I really love this.
Starting point is 00:12:04 This was a bit shit. It makes me more of this. He's locked in an hour. Okay. Oh, I've gone down to a five now. I feel bad about myself. No. Hey, hey, look at this number, Dan.
Starting point is 00:12:15 A seven. Yeah, seven. Strong seven. I love how we're still surprised, even though I put myself a seven, which is not even that good. You know, it's still mid-range. My surprise doesn't come from me not thinking you're attractive.
Starting point is 00:12:27 My surprise and happiness comes from you. saying this number. I'll count down from three to one. You both say the number you'd rate me at. Can you stand up and I have a really good look at you because I want to really get this right.
Starting point is 00:12:36 If I was like a stranger, I'm like in there like, right. Now be honest, be 100% honest. And I've got a thick skin. Both figuratively and physically. Are you wearing this outfit? Oh, fuck.
Starting point is 00:12:49 Do you want us to picture you naked? No! Just burn down on his blanket! Okay. Okay, three, two, one. 6.9. Oh, I gave you a 7.6. I gave you a 0.7 more than me. Gay, Clint.
Starting point is 00:13:04 Oh, for the back sake. Piss off. Gay. Overthinkers. Rover. Music, radio, podcasts.
