This is a podcast from Rover.
This is the Overthinkers podcast.
We're back.
Good to be here.
It's been a week.
It's been a while.
I think we had some replays going on on this feed.
Yeah, yeah.
So you didn't cheat on us and go listen to another podcast.
Oh, who the fuck chose those, actually?
Because I had my friend tell me that we replayed the time that I shipped myself in my carport.
Yeah, there was a whole show dedicated to that one.
Why is it?
Clare, what the fuck?
Did you also, did you happen to also replay?
when I got dyed blue.
Somebody asked me if I was actually blue
and I didn't know if that was a replay.
I don't know about that one.
That wasn't the same day, by the way,
when you shut yourself in the car.
No.
But the carpet would.
I was like, can we let that story die?
Nah.
For five years old.
I wanted to remind people.
Yeah, I don't think I was here for it.
I missed it.
So you had to retell that at least to me.
That's why I did it.
In case Clint was going to listen to the podcast.
Yeah, yeah.
Because I knew he wasn't here, so I wanted him to hear.
So anyway, this is the first time
we've been back live in your ears for a week or so.
had a week off, didn't we?
And I was going to go down to Lake Taraweta.
We've got a family batch down there.
But didn't end up going because my wife was working.
And I wasn't going to go down there.
Dan Ziddy was just going to go down there.
Take the jesky out and have a wink.
No, I don't.
You should tell us that.
You told us that that's what you're doing.
That's absolutely made up.
And then no.
And then Brady goes, Brady goes, did you, bro?
And then Dan goes, no, but I did once on a kayak.
Yeah.
It was bloody rocking all over the place.
Yeah, anyway.
He did on a kayak.
I love that story.
Anyway, hey, don't mock it until you've tried it.
Don't yuck someone else's yum.
Is that your yum?
Wanking on a kayak?
I don't be up there.
Do I need to organize a kayak?
Is this going to be a story out?
Carl, not everything we talk about is to be organized into a story out.
Okay, so just to say what it was like.
Honestly, we're back and we're already talking about wanking.
Well, you are?
Well, I didn't bring that up.
But anyway, can I just have it on record that I just wanted to talk about my holiday?
What did you want to do at the lake by yourself?
Nothing, because I didn't go down, Clint, but I will say this.
I had some time at home by myself where I was at a loose end.
There we go.
Here we go.
I, uh...
Yeah.
Okay.
Go on.
Wait, he didn't want to speak while the doors open against anyone in the airlock heard.
This is a podcast, bro.
A lot of people will hear it.
Yeah.
Go on.
I decided to do a bit of manscaping down below.
Makes it bigger, eh?
Man, how bold really?
It makes it look bigger.
And it'd be a lot.
If it does make it bigger
than you're enjoying it to work,
because I want to prescribe to be a very hairy individual anyway,
so I can leave it like six months without manscaping
and nothing really changes down there.
But I was like, I've left it probably a while now.
I'm going to do a tidier down there.
So I did the old mirror on the floor.
I've done it before, I've done it again.
And you remember the time I did it.
Yeah, and then Hannah got mad at you because she left the pubs of it.
Yeah, because she came home.
At least tidy up your man.
Yeah.
Oh, I'm looking good.
That's your ADHD, bro, to a tea.
If you go, well, there was something I need to do.
Oh, well, I can't remember.
And you just leave your pubs on a mirror sitting on the floor.
No, because I was at home and doing, I was home alone.
This is before George was a thing.
And I was manscaping.
And Hannah came home before I was expecting her.
So I was mid-squadding over the mirror doing a bit of, you know, a bit of a chop down.
Getting the gooch and everything.
Yeah. And she came out.
I was like, Jesus Christ, like, sort of, in a half, like, went out of the room.
and sort of went down and grieved her.
Oh, I thought you mean you did a runner because you didn't want her to see you.
I'm like, she's seen it all.
No, I don't want to.
It was a mess in there.
Like, honestly, Harry McClary would be murdered.
And then, um, he's not too hairy though, eh, he's not too hairy.
And then you would have, I'm guessing, gotten distracted.
And she'd be like, hey, we've got to do this.
We've got to have dinner.
Can you get the grocery bags and you forgot?
Yeah, so pretty much, me.
Word for word.
And then she went upstairs.
Would she have compared you to Hercules Morse?
That's because she'd definitely not.
I'm more like the snitz upon crush.
With a very low time.
No, anyway, sorry
And so she, I was downstead and fucking ADHD
forgot about the mess
I can, I do not know how your brain could
I'd literally clean the pubs, clean the pubs, clean the pubs
And it was like minutes after she got home
So she goes upstairs and gets changed
And all I heard was her go
What the fuck?
And I was like, oh shit, she's noticed it
The mirror on the fore and the pubs
Anyway
Oh, what do you mean she's noticed it?
If she hadn't, she would have probably smashed it
with their feet.
So I was doing that.
I was mid doing it again,
and I had the mirror on the floor,
razor down there,
chopping,
going away, knock, knock, knock at the door.
Yeah.
That's my wife's mum.
Mother-in-law.
Mother-in-law,
Bess, love her to bits.
She knows I'm there.
Yeah.
Because I have, I, like, text to her,
and she was like, I'm just got to drop over.
She had some, like,
uh, Tupperware containers that we'd left at her house,
and she was bringing them back over.
And I was like, fuck, I don't think she was going to be here.
this early. So I had to like
pull my pants up,
go out and she like comes in.
She starts taking off her shoes and I'm like,
fuck she's coming in. She's coming in. So she takes off
her shoes and comes in and I close the door
to the lounge, like to the hallway where the thing
is. You've been doing it in the hallway?
No, and it's the hallway and then it goes into the bar. And you're still
fully naked. No, I'm pulling my pants on.
But like on mid, it's like
two face down there. One side's done. The other side's
not. You know? And so
she like I'm like a guy, Harvey Dent
And so she doesn't know none the wiser
And I've closed the door
She says I just need to go to the bathroom before I go
And I said I'm sorry, we can't
I'm sorry, we can't
And I said, sorry, we can't
And I said sorry, we can't
And she's like, oh sorry, why?
And I was like, we've just had an issue
With the toilet
And I had to like make up some excuse
That there was an issue with the toilet
Well, like it's broken
Yeah, I said it had been blocked
And we'd try to clean up first
Clean enough
It would have taken 45 minutes
Oh Jesus, disgusting
I would have had to vacuum
It would have been weird
so she ended up leaving going home
I would have loved
oh my god the amount of money I'd pay
for an actual recording of the moment
when Dan realized his mother all wants to use
a bathroom where all those pubs are
and he would have gone
we don't use toilets here
whatever his brain would have just said
I think I just go to the bathroom
I don't think we can use that
we can't use it as broken
the toilet
oh my god I'd love a recording
it probably would be on our cameras
yeah that would have been great
but yeah so that's
And then you just finish up afterwards?
Are you still Harvey Denton?
No, I finished up after she left.
Because I wouldn't put a pass-in.
Wouldn't put a pass-in to him and be like,
now what was I doing?
And he forgets.
And he's in bits of passion.
She's like, not again, fuck!
When you do yours, because I know you're one of those guys
that, you know, you're very, run a tight ship down there, don't you?
I think everyone should run a tight ship.
No.
You don't want to run a loose, moldy ship?
Your pubs go mouldy if you don't cut them?
If we're using the metaphor of like a tight ship
versus a slippery, mouldy ship that never leaves the dock.
But do you, I always end up overdoing it.
Like I always start going, I'm just going to give them a quick, you know, tidy up.
But I always end up going full.
Ball, yeah.
Oh, you can't get too close because otherwise it gets really spiky.
Yeah, you can't get too close.
Produce car?
If we're using ship analogies, mine's got a rusty hull.
I should have anything I should do about that?
You definitely want to get that sorted.
because rust will corrode
and a hole in a boat is bad.
Clean it up, Mick. Come on.
You can clean it up. There's something you've got.
Yeah, I've got a cute story. I can do a cute story.
Oh, boring.
Or I can talk about my pups.
Meg's ship's got sign riding all across it.
Yeah. Yeah, Mug's graffiti.
The Rainbow Warrior.
Yeah, one of those sunken ones
and some, like, you know, young teens have gone and tagged all over it.
Daisy
came home the other day
and had a big conversation
with me and Guy
and it's so funny
because I've raised
you guys know that I don't eat meat
I eat fish sometimes
but
that's meat
yeah fuck the fish
I don't eat beef
chicken turkey
pork whatever
what's your beef with the fish
though
yeah well they have feelings too me
if we're gonna
yeah I think so
I think if I
if my family
was the same
it'd be a lot easier
but doing like full vegan
and then meat
eaters. I found it really difficult, so it kind of
weirdly sadly... So you chose a fish.
I mean, so you chose an animal. And I...
Yeah, I know that's probably really weird, but
I eat fish maybe once
every two weeks. Like,
it's a very rare sort of occasion anyway.
It's fish or seafood? Oh, yeah, prawns as well.
Yeah, because then, I feel like it gives you more...
If you just drop beef, or you're really
like mince and steak, whereas if you
decide that you're going to eat seafood,
it gives you a lot of options. So it's called
pescatarian. Anyway, it's something that I
haven't raised my kids off.
It was my decision as an adult to do it
And I don't think Daisy's even noticed
Like I don't think she's ever looked at my plate
And looked at her plane and go and why are you not eating this?
Sometimes she's offered me a bite of like a bunning sausage
I'm like oh no thanks but that's about it
And missed opportunity for a teaching experience
Sometimes I don't even meat anyway
Yeah somebody said that to me
She came on on Friday and a kid at her kindergarten
Had told her what meat was
Which is like hammers deadpicks
Oh right
And she had this moment of realization.
Because obviously there are lots of words that don't, you know, chicken is chicken.
And that one you can put two and two together.
But ham, pork, sausage.
Bacon.
None of them mean bacon.
And also like mints.
That doesn't mean cow.
Beef doesn't even mean cow to her.
It's just a food that she eats.
And so she, for the first time, put it together.
And she was like, do you know that ham is pig?
And I was like, yeah.
And she goes, it's dead pig.
And I was like, well, I.
I can't lie to you.
Like, you know, I'm like, I don't want to lie about it.
It's weird about the pigs.
My daughter, only with pigs with bacon.
She won't eat bacon because she likes pigs.
Yeah, and she was like, but poor biggies.
And I was like, yeah, I mean, I don't know what he's saying.
She's like, well, what about chickens?
I was like, well, that's chicken baby.
You should have paid her out in John the circle of life.
Yeah, and I was like, I don't know.
Like, I can't lie to her.
I'm not going to lie.
And she really put it together.
And then she said, and, you know, and then we're talking about mince.
And she was like, mince's cow.
And I was like, but poor cows.
I'm like, well, yeah, she's like, I don't want to eat that.
I don't want to do it anymore.
So she is now not eating meat.
Can you believe it.
No, my daughter just chose not to eat pig.
Yeah.
It's funny because I've got a friend's kid who said that she had, they were eating
mince the other night and he was like, is this the family cow?
Because they had a cow on the farm and they were like, yeah, and he was like, cool, we carried on.
Like some kids, it doesn't bother them because that's, I guess.
But she couldn't get past it.
So she stopped eating meat now.
So now poor guy, if anything, every time he eats me.
Chicken nuggets.
He eats it.
I know he eats something.
And now Daisy goes, why are you eating that?
You should have been eating that.
And I'm like, fuck.
I mean, he's never got it from me.
I keep my own things to myself.
I chose to do it.
I'm not going to judge anybody else's decisions.
But yeah, she's off at the moment.
We'll see how long it lasts.
And we'll respect either way.
If she changes her mind, she's four.
Whatever.
We'll do it.
But yeah, now we've got a vegetarian child.
That makes life hard as well.
I know.
I guess it's a little bit easier because you are one.
Yeah, yeah.
So it's, I guess, easier for me.
that has happened now. I'm like,
Mill is not and Dad and Guy's not.
So it's, yeah, it's just like kind of figuring it out.
But little cutie.
It is interesting because you don't want to project your things onto kids
because you want to find their own way.
Like ours is a little more hectic than that
because we were doing the birds and the beast chat over the school holidays.
And we were talking about sex.
And then Ty was like, how old should I be when I have sex?
And then he was like, because he goes, oh, probably,
he goes, I'll probably wait till I'm 14.
I was like, God, bro.
if you wait a little longer than there.
And I was like, well, to be fair,
some people wait a long time.
Some people don't wait.
I was like, I've got a friend.
Dan, you know, Dan, he waited until he was 26.
Seven.
It goes up every time.
I fucking love it.
It goes up every time.
When he first told us, it was 22.
I wanted to see him put it cooler.
I appreciated having my friend Dan as an example of a man that decided to wait until he
found somebody who was in love with.
wait till you're a bit older because that night
it was actually no that was
fucking all good. It was. Yeah. I thought
17 was a good age for me. I was really
happy with 17. Well and then we talked about
how, um, then how old were you
dad? Yeah. And then
I think I was, I think I was at 18
and then I said, and then how it was
mum was like 22
when mum got married to dad. What a God thing when you
had sex at 18? I didn't know I'm then.
Oh, were you not in a relationship with a
And so then Cam found out the only person that mum had slept with was dad.
So we're having these conversations about how we waited until we were married.
Yeah, okay.
But then we talk about the importance of like waiting, but not forcing on my kids that I think they should wait until they're married.
So it's like interesting because you're like, well, this is how I did it.
Yeah.
And there are pros and cons to what I did.
And there are reasons why I would follow me.
And then there are reasons why I wouldn't.
So I'm not telling you to follow and to not follow.
But I'm just trying to get you to think about the right.
things in terms of being into somebody rather than just throwing it around
really, maybe in the beginning.
Isn't it funny that I'm going to be encouraging my son to have sex earlier than I did?
There have not been many parents that do that.
I'll be like, don't wait till you're 27.
Wait till you're 20.
Wait till you're 20.
Yeah, because I think statistically, surely my wife has to be the exception rather
than the rule of somebody who ended up
waiting until she was married
to sleep with her partner. Yeah,
and then now 17 years
on they're still married.
I think the chances of not knowing how somebody lives
because we never live together and not having
that sexual part of your relationship, which is
I think a hugely important part of any marriage.
If you don't know if you're compatible
on all those things, you're rolling a pretty
risky dice in terms of that
set up. But I guess when you're in the church
that's the way it was sort of pushed and so
that's the way we ended up doing it.
But it's interesting then when you raise your kids to be like,
you find your own path and do it your own way,
but I also want to guide you so that you don't end up getting hurt
by giving it away too early.
So true. So true.
Yeah.
So, Dan, you're going to be telling him to get out there and...
I'll be going.
As soon as you're ready, you do it, boy.
No son of mine's going to be a 27-year-old move.
28.
I was 24.
See you.
