Starting point is 00:00:00 This is a podcast from Rover. This is the Overthinkers podcast. Friday, made it to the end of the week. Happy Friday, too. Dan said the week has raced by for him. I thought it had, but maybe it hasn't. You guys were both depressing. No, you're confusing Meg with producer Carl.
Starting point is 00:00:22 She wasn't in that convo. Oh, yeah, true. Yeah, I quite often get them confused. No, but it is. Meg, you would have, I guarantee you'll say that. it went slow. Yeah, it did. Yeah, but Meg's also selling a house at the moment.
Starting point is 00:00:34 And so she's got a lot. Yeah, my life is going fast because I've got so many deadlines. And I'm just, I'm the positive guy of the show. I'm happy going to. So I guess that's why that happens. I'm speaking of the house cell, how's that going, by the way? Because Meg's getting a house to look the best it's ever looked
Starting point is 00:00:50 so you can give it to someone else. Yeah, I know, isn't it? But it's also, it's so weird, but I feel I feel hopeful that it goes to somebody and I feel like I'm looking after them because I'm getting everything sort of for them. Do you know what I'm? It's the kind of personality I am that I'm like
Starting point is 00:01:06 I want to make sure that when you come and buy my house you feel like you're like you're safe and everything's a drug. Wouldn't it have been nice to do it a year ago so you could have enjoyed it for a year? I would love to look after myself and my family but I care obviously more about strangers. Don't you like look at your house now
Starting point is 00:01:21 the best it's ever looked? Yeah. Oh, I don't want to say that. Yeah, guys very much like why didn't we do this ages ago? And every time I go, guy, like we've got, we've got two kids. And it's been a pretty intense ride. Like, I would say that our priority for the past year and a bit, or even like when I was heavily pregnant wasn't really, you know, just clear in the yard.
Starting point is 00:01:40 Yeah. I want to come over and see the work you've done. Oh, you should. You should come by my house. Have you taken before photos? So that you can now take after photos when it's done. Because we'll get the real estate like open home photos, but we could have go, oh my God. The funny thing is, because I'm on a.
Starting point is 00:01:55 bit of a weight loss journey at the moment, or a weight loss, but like I'm trying to build some muscle. And I took some before photos the other day. And I deleted them. No, no, you need them because then when you are jacked, you'll be, everyone will be like, holy. No, but I would never release them.
Starting point is 00:02:08 I look like a podgy marshmallow. No, but you look for yourself. You look for yourself. I've seen people do this when they post them. I'm like, holy, they're putting those photos online. But it doesn't matter because that's not you anymore. So the juxtaposition of how bad it was to how amazing it is, I think can justify putting the most embarrassing
Starting point is 00:02:25 photos of yourself online. And Hannah was like, because I showed them to her. I'm like, can I just show you Mark in the sand? This is what I look like. And it's not going to be what I looked like in six months. And she was like, why did you take them naked? Because I took them like full frontal. Yeah, you're true.
Starting point is 00:02:40 It needs to be naked. No one has ever done that. No, you do. You know, you were your undies. You were your undies. I was about to get into the shower and I was like, and I looked to myself and I was like, you fucking pod. Dan, you know, I'm like, I'll take a photo now.
Starting point is 00:02:53 And so I just, I wasn't going to put undies back. No, full nude. But when you do the after photos, you're not going to be full nude, are you? Well, I'd probably have to match them. No, I've deleted them anyway, because they were hideous. But I probably would have cropped. That is weird. I've never heard of anyone doing a full naked shirt.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Dan's got Nudson's phone. Hackers out there. Did you delete your deleted folder? Because they'll stay there for 30 days, buddy. Oh, they're still there somewhere then? Don't have a peek. Oh, God. We've got a builder over at our house at the moment,
Starting point is 00:03:22 doing our Builders report. I keep texting guy to try and think of things that we can. could do to make him I make, you know. Did you say he's South American? So I've been looking up things. Apparently, they're like a firm handshake and they're family-orientated. So I've... Go ahead, shake his hand and go, how good is a family?
Starting point is 00:03:37 Tell me about your kids. So if you become his friend, then he'll look after you and sort of give you a discount or do things a little better, rather than going to... It's more... Yeah, I've got a great lawn guy now. I've got an amazing guy who does, like, painting and home repairs and bits and bobs, like a really good builder sort of type. How many men are you hiring?
Starting point is 00:03:55 I've got a fantastic What's your husband? Hey, hey, he's looking after our children The most important job of all. One of them goes to daycare. So, child. Yeah, and the other one's definitely not. She's running around trying to kill herself
Starting point is 00:04:08 basically every three seconds or jam her fingers off in the door or grab knives from the dishwasher when he's unloaded. It's crazy. Hey, he'd have a bit of time to screw in some stuff and, like, sand some... Damn, when was the last time you put a fucking photo up? No, he hired hire a hubby.
Starting point is 00:04:21 They were at it. Thank you, Clint. Oh, yeah, I did. That was at my old house. But that was only because... Go on. There was no things in the wall and I didn't want to stuff it up.
Starting point is 00:04:28 No things, no studs. But now I've been screwing and shit Willy nilly in our rental. No things in the wall gaming the studs. Yeah. You will have some studs, mate. I was the studs,
Starting point is 00:04:36 screwy stod. You don't have any studs in your wall. Your ceiling will come down. Hannah is the stud finder. That's what I call it. Well, Hannah had the stun find her out and she couldn't find a stud. And then she turned it towards me.
Starting point is 00:04:46 She was like, it just keeps saying there studs everywhere. I don't know what's going on. Dan's standing too close. Yeah. Like that time that we went looking for treasure at Dan's house and me and Dad were like, it's there, it's there
Starting point is 00:04:56 and you dig and I put the the magnetic, what is it called? Metal detector. Down to the ground. It all got beep, beep, beep, it was like, oh my God, there's shit everywhere. Dig, dig, dig. And then like, what, maybe three minutes like, Clim was like, guys, it's picking up the spade. Yeah, it was like,
Starting point is 00:05:12 Meg was swinging around, Dad's holding the spade getting ready to dig. So every time Dan would have the spade, meg would fucking, of course the spades made a medal. Who knew, spades will metal. I just seen a news story that's come through and I don't know if it's based on some sort of survey I haven't sort of read enough into it
Starting point is 00:05:29 but people are or don't have as many friends or a smaller friend group to 10 years ago isn't that interesting so the average person has a friend group a close friend group of three it used to be 10 years ago 5 to 6
Starting point is 00:05:43 Isn't that interesting? I think it's the internet it's the overwhelm there's too much choice We're in our phones all the time. And I'm smack bang in that thing. I've got three, like I'd say, my close friend group, excluding you guys, is three. Mine is five girls, four others. Wait, is that that hot one you tried to show us earlier?
Starting point is 00:06:06 That's now the host of something, and you see this, your friend. I was like, bitch. That and your friend, you've never introduced her to us. No, that girl is not who I'm talking about. Sounds like there was a reason for that clip, because she already sounded creepy. She's not even in the room. Yeah, she didn't introduce her to us. No.
Starting point is 00:06:20 And what would you do? I just flirt and then Let us remind you Clint's married Clint you've got 4,000 friends No but I'd be interested to know How many would you consider to be in your close In your inner circle You know like your inner circle
Starting point is 00:06:37 Take family out of it Take me and I out of it Because we see each other every day Why we take me and yours then you? Yeah we had we had we had each other Well I would say if I included you guys Which I'm not for the purposes of this I would have five
Starting point is 00:06:49 Okay then I'd have seven Okay, well my 40th birthday I had 14, you two couldn't come So then that's 16 And then I had four others that are around Yeah, but a lot of them are family Your family is to out of it No, they didn't come
Starting point is 00:07:04 Oh my brother and his wife came So take your out And then do you include the partners Because if you're including the partners Yeah, if I was just, if I'm just friends with them And not their partners then they didn't come Because I have to I think this is what makes them a better friend
Starting point is 00:07:17 If you really enjoy their partner or your wife gets along with them and, you know, like the crossover. Yeah, I know, but take out your wife need to be there to be friends with them and you're like, oh, she's got her friends here. Take them out. Would you choose the wives as, yeah, would you choose the wives as your close friends? Yeah, like I would message them. And you would hang out with them by themselves. Yes. Okay. So 20?
Starting point is 00:07:38 Really? So like, some for my inner circle, like friends, close friends, is Badi. My friend Badi and my friend, my best friend, Chris, who didn't invite me to his wedding. and I wouldn't class their wives or partners as like in that because I like them and they're lovely people but I would never text Steph or Colleen and go you know like want to hang out but without Chris or Batty yeah without them but then also I've got like 23 lads in my football team that are all coming around on Saturday
Starting point is 00:08:09 and come around to my place and we're doing a bit of a thing at mine before prize giving and so and I see them every week during football season and then a few of them outside of football season because you obviously click with some of the boys more than others and depending on if they got kids or not. So now we're up to 40 something. Yeah, it's 43.
Starting point is 00:08:25 Where's Hannah? My wife would hang. Hannah, my wife would hang out with the wags, Colleen and Steph. But I don't think. Well, not by herself. By yourself. But then, like, even like people here in the office that you'll catch up with like for a beer socially in the weekend.
Starting point is 00:08:40 God, anyway. Honestly, we get it. You've got 20 friends. I don't know how you maintain all those things. I think, but the thing is, I feel bad because I would include a lot more people if we're talking about slightly outer circles. Like, I've got tons of friends.
Starting point is 00:08:52 I think if you would give up your free time to catch up with them in the weekend, they consider it a good friend as opposed to someone that you just see it stuff. Way more than seven, but I'm saying like you're absolute inner, in the most. Okay, well then 20. Honestly, Clint, lie.
Starting point is 00:09:07 You're not, you don't have 20 close best friends. Are you saying if I go to your funeral, I'm going to have to sit through 20 fucking speeches? So there'll be 20 people up there on the stage going, Clint was my best friend. Clint was my best friend. Another one. Clint was my best friend.
Starting point is 00:09:23 No way. I'd say there'd be Raj. The three India, the Indian trifectar I call him. Those are just two Indians. Raj and what's his face? What's the outside? Kitchen. To primary school.
Starting point is 00:09:36 He was in my house. His son slipped over at my house yesterday. His son and my son are only two months apart and they are best friends. On the phone, they'll say, love you to each other. And then you've got your... Who's the runner? You've got their running friend.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Simon or something. Who's the running friend? Okay, he's obviously not even... I thought you had a running... A friend that likes to run and goes on Strava and shit a lot. Oh yeah, Simon does do that. Yeah, it was that Simon? We've drifted apart over the last few years.
Starting point is 00:10:01 Okay, so Kish and Raj. The Indian double? Selwyn and Jess, who came up from Wong andui, and they stay with us. Nigel and Nigel and Kail and I literally did intermediate high school, worked at the same place, same course, everything together. Four, that's four. Wait, but no, he's included. the wives, including Kela and who?
Starting point is 00:10:17 Did you go to... Jess? Did you go to Intermediate with Jess, did you? No, Jess is just... She's top tier. So you would message Jess and go, hey, let's catch up and not have someone there? Yep. Ben and Amanda. Probably through our love of the Warriors. Oh, they're not your best friends.
Starting point is 00:10:33 Bree and Sophia. Yeah, okay, yeah. Then, yeah, my brother's one of my best friends. No, you can't count family. And his wife is, like, super cool. Can't count family. Well, okay, then, Ben, yeah. X isn't family, so she's... No, but she is family because she's your sister-in-law.
Starting point is 00:10:50 Annie and Darren, so I caught up... Never heard of him. Have you never heard of him talk about Annie? Okay, they had a sleeper at my house last Saturday. And I'm catching up with them today after work. If I wait, if it is your funeral and the guy goes, and the priest goes up the front, if anybody would like to say a few words about Clint and I go to stand and 50 other fucking stand up,
Starting point is 00:11:10 you're not getting one from me. It'll be like that crunching up called like a. I'm letting you now. If you want my speech at your funeral, five or less. Otherwise, I'm not doing it. It'll be like that crunchy nut cornflake ad where they go, I'm coming down too.
Starting point is 00:11:20 Me too. I love that ad. Who knows? I might piss them all off in my old age before I die. You might have a falling out. That's crazy. Maybe he's right.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Yeah, good for you, Clint. I just couldn't maintain that many friendships. Yeah, but they all bring something different because they're all different. So I think if you, maybe you have three friends, Dan, that give you everything you need in regards of friendship whereas if I meet someone else
Starting point is 00:11:47 and I go they're different to the collection that I already have then I will add them How dull are your friends? One is funny One is kind It does have just
Starting point is 00:11:56 I bring you I got room for one generous one You've got the Indians Yeah The alcoholic that's always like Available for a catch-up Because he doesn't work A real job
Starting point is 00:12:07 You got the lesbians Yep Yeah You've got those ones Yeah They're great influence on my wife You got the family guy Ben Boyce.
Starting point is 00:12:15 Yeah, yeah, exactly. Okay. Anyway, just as a follow-up to that, this news story suggests for people that want more friends, a whole load of different places where you can meet new people. Okay. And obviously you've got like recreational sports and fitness groups. I'd say that's where you maybe meet a lot of your football.
Starting point is 00:12:30 It's quite an active guy. And there's a couple of other things. So local, there's apparently very popular, is local subredits. So if you go on to Reddit and go city-specific looking for friends, So say you go Yeah, I've seen those Yeah, I've seen those
Starting point is 00:12:47 People, there's other like-minded people on there Fucking nightmare I would never Ever I think I'd rather die alone And this is sad Then go on to like a Reddit forum And then go on some sort of like
Starting point is 00:13:02 Date meet up with a possible new friend Can you imagine that Couldn't we do it I know you would And you'd have to be just so mega outgoing Well Have you done that? No, I used to cop a lot of flak for making friends through radio competitions.
Starting point is 00:13:18 I know when I just started at the very first radio station. Yeah, and I just started a radio station we were giving away like a free wedding. And Kaylee and Ian, where the couple I was hoping would win, and then they actually ended up losing. They were runners up. In fact, the ones that won, Gabby and Nate, they actually live underneath my mother-in-law now because I became quite good friends with them.
Starting point is 00:13:40 But Kaylee and Ian, they live in Queenstown. And so every time we go, we catch all of them. And I was having drinks with her a couple of weekends ago. And I think you can just make friends through work stuff, sports stuff. But you're talking about just random. I want a friend. I'm going to meet you. And we have no reason for bumping into each other except we want to.
Starting point is 00:13:57 I sort of understand it if maybe you've come from another country, you know, and you're desperate. You live alone. You want to find someone and you're finding it hard to find people at work. That might work for you. There's another place called Meetup. Apparently it's a platform where you go on, I guess, like a dating website. but for friendships. Could we send Dan on one,
Starting point is 00:14:15 not just for information and research purposes, but because that would be mean to the person, but also a genuine, like, you might make a friend, but you're also trying to find out about how it works. I'm sticking out for you. You don't want another friend.
Starting point is 00:14:27 No, but I am intrigued. Oh, my God. I am intrigued. I'm just looking up RC cars in Auckland, see if there's something there for you, Dan, mate. Yeah, I mean, that's the sort of thing I would maybe, but, you know, Carl, have you seen other people that drive remote control cars.
Starting point is 00:14:42 Fucking how. Yeah, you'd probably be the coolest one there, which is like compared to every other situation in life, like you'd be the king. I did go to one once. I went to this meetup of RSI car things to see if I could find, like, you know, do a hobby. And I literally walked into the place
Starting point is 00:14:57 and I could smell the BO. I could smell the BO as I was walking out. There was a group that was a social dodge ball. There you go. No, ball sports I'm out. I get wasted. I don't know. We're not going to say.
Starting point is 00:15:08 Yeah. It could be fun where you go, What if we did this? I don't know if you'll love it, Meg, but we get 30 days and see who at the end of the month can make the most new friends. It's going to be you! I don't want to enter a competition that I'm going to lose. That's like you said Bolt entering with Susan Boyle and another, like... No, but you have more room, Meg.
Starting point is 00:15:27 You have more room for growth. Like, because if you don't have that many, you've got more time to nurture those friendships in 30 days. I can barely, barely be a good friend to my actual friends. I'm like 1% of... In fact, I met up. some of my closest friends the other week and I hadn't seen one of them for about a year and a half in fact my group of five girls I haven't seen
Starting point is 00:15:47 one of them for about six years so I and I went and I saw with my group of friends and I said I am in the stage of my life that I'm so focused on my family and my work and just getting shit done that I am just going I hope I'm good enough friends with my friends that they'll stay
Starting point is 00:16:02 that's where I'm at in my life I'm not quite that bad but I am at the moment at the moment okay well do you think maybe you've hit the nail on the head there maybe you give, well actually no, your example will maybe suggest not, but give more to your friendships because you have less
Starting point is 00:16:17 and I just give less to more friendships. I do think that, like two of my, I would say the same as you did, and how I said five girls, two of them I talk to every day and I give a lot to them in the way that. No, I'm not that. You talk to your best friends every day? Not every day. Maybe Chris every second day. He lives in New York.
Starting point is 00:16:34 Potato potato. Yeah, but I wouldn't, but not in depth stuff. It's like guy chats. It'll be like, oh, for Ben and Alonso is staying on for another year in Formula One. You know, like it's that sort of stuff. I'd ever go, how are you feeling? Why not? Message him now.
Starting point is 00:16:46 How are you feeling? Hey, bro. Just want to know. It's serious chat. How are you feeling? How are you feeling? Just checking in as your mate. Do it.
Starting point is 00:16:52 Because boys need to do this more. Me and, sorry. You know who else, I think, is like, top-tier friend? People that you'll go on holiday with. That you'll go, like, camping or holidays. That's, like, top-tier. Rent a house. And holiday with them?
Starting point is 00:17:08 That's top-tier. Man, I don't know how many I'd have in that group. Not really. What should I say? Just checking in with you, how are you feeling my friend? Like, really feeling. Yes. Yeah, perfect.
Starting point is 00:17:16 Bridgescar. This was, it reminds me of something. I was actually going to bring it up and ask you guys. My wife just randomly sent me a message the other day on Instagram, forwarded me something. And it's a Dads of Auckland meetup group. And I'm like, why did you send that? I know.
Starting point is 00:17:30 Oh, that's what I thought. Oh, God. You can't pay me. Why did she send that to me? Like, does she think I need to meet some more? She's like, oh, that would be a cool thing to do. She said that to you because you were a warrior on her mental list if she goes, Carl needs more friends.
Starting point is 00:17:41 As a wife, she goes, Carl needs more mate. This is an insult to me because Carl and I have been hanging out quite a bit outside of the show. She knows about that. So it's almost like she's going, anyone but Dan. Yeah, she's like, we need to get him away from Dad. Here's any other Dad and Dan. Go find yourself a new Dan.
Starting point is 00:17:58 Must be hard for you, producer Brady, because you moved from Southland to Auckland. So that's tricky. You've got to sort of rejig your close friends circle. You can still message them and whatever, but I guess it's trickier. You've got to sort of start forming a new pack. Yeah, well, I moved from Christ, actually, Clint, not Southland. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:18:18 Yeah, no, I mean, all the people I flat with, I studied with. So, like, we're all close friends anyway, you know. But we haven't really ventured that far outside, but it has been tricky. I did try to play social. I played rugby for social at the start of the year and made a few mates through that. But, yeah. Also, you guys will flat with like 15 other people, so you've got to make at least. least like half of those have to be friends, surely.
Starting point is 00:18:41 Yeah, we flat with seven people and they're all my mates. So, yeah. Well, there you go. But the moral of the story is, it's been an old long convoluted way. If you want to find new friends, there's meetup, there's going to these reddit, subreddits. One of us has to do it. I'm kind of interested to do it, but I don't, like you say, I don't want to take the piss out of the person that's genuinely looking for a friend.
Starting point is 00:19:00 Well, I think you go with the intention of actually making a friend. And if you do or if you don't, you can still bring back the information that. that you've learned about what it's like, how awkward it is, what you wouldn't, wouldn't do if you did it again, all that sort of stuff. Can we do guess the fart now? Now here's the thing, a little bit of mailbag. There has been someone that's got in touch with us.
Starting point is 00:19:20 You got mail. On the overthinker's feedback line, Josh. Josh Copeman, he's message saying, Hey, team, thought I'd have a go at making a new guest the fart intro. Blasphemy! That's my favourite thing of doing guest the fart. If it ain't broke. Yeah, so maybe he does think that it is broke, the current intro.
Starting point is 00:19:42 Okay. He said, if I did well, I'm not sure if I did well, but here you go. I'm also interested to bring back Genzi Quiz, which is another thing which we can talk about. Okay. All right, well, I've got that summing title, Guess the Fart Listener remix, so that should be it. This is the new one. Let's see. Okay.
Starting point is 00:20:03 Country. The fart, what's that smell? I hate it. A stinky mystery. I'll guess that far. Guess that far. AI, though. I know, I do.
Starting point is 00:20:28 I hate AI. I will say that. But that's one of the better AI's I've heard. It's a very different vibe. Our current guest fart is AI. Yeah, true. He's singing the same lyrics. I like that.
Starting point is 00:20:40 And it's just kind of given a bit more of a country feel. I don't. Okay, well, I don't hate it. It's catchy. I won't bother. doing our intro, I'll just send us out with our intro. Because I feel like we've been doubling up. Feels like we're in now.
Starting point is 00:20:54 Okay. Are you ready to guess? Yeah, I feel, no, I don't feel ready. But it feels very weird to be doing it without the intro. It's almost like, yeah, I don't know what to do. You know, what if I can't fart and then we find out that that's really, like, you know? I reckon let's try it. Let's try it with this vibe.
Starting point is 00:21:09 Oh, fuck. The thing is, can I just flag something as well? I'm sure you'll be okay. Can I just flag something? And I don't know if this is possible with you, Clint, but it is getting. very samesy, samesy guess the far. It's just the same sound of a fart every week. You always do a very similar sound.
Starting point is 00:21:23 Let's see if you can contort that little butthole of yours. Okay. I'm going to do something unique. Because if you can, on demand, also create a different sound than what you usually do, which I would say is more this. Sort of like that vibe. Okay. I want something a little bit with a bit more oomph.
Starting point is 00:21:42 Okay. I got you. I'm going to do my usual, and you guys always say I'm never going to win but if we're doing different fucking out Meg you need to get better you need to practice Yeah you need to brag I'm doing the most here
Starting point is 00:21:56 You're just showing up Have you made any fart sounds between Now and the last time we played this No no obviously Dad's practising first Okay I think I've got mine Okay good I think it's going to sound
Starting point is 00:22:09 If you're going to try and do something different It's going to sound like this I don't know I hope you're wrong. I have to fucking have. He did have all those injections yesterday, so he could be being wrong. He might have a peabler. Yellow fever.
Starting point is 00:22:29 See what comes out. Brown fever. Should have got the rabies shot. She did say it was alive of something. Okay, so this is where I get ready and I unplugged my headphones so I can't, so I can make a quick escape. Here he goes. It's just a sound fucking sound as he is. There you go, you dickhead.
