Starting point is 00:00:00 This is the Overthinkers podcast. Welcome, start of a brand new week. Three of us are back. We are back and I was thinking the other day, I see it's quite popular online again. You brought this game to the team, Clint. We could possibly play another goal of it. The numbers game, that you put a number in your forehead,
Starting point is 00:00:18 and then you have to guess how many it is from the questions. The game's most fun based on how creative people are with the questions because you find out quite a bit about the maze. Some are better than others. I saw Jimmy Fallon playing it, so I was like, oh, the game must have got virus. enough that he's doing it on TV. Fallon loves a game, eh?
Starting point is 00:00:32 He loves doing that. He does that other one where there's like a... He has these things made and you pull them out of a box and you have to describe what it is. That's right. So you'd be like, I'm holding a carrot that's been stuck into some concrete. And then the other person has to guess if you're bluffing or it's actually a carrot stuck into some concrete. But you have to make something up that's obviously very bizarre and funny. Sometimes they've made the sculpture.
Starting point is 00:00:57 Yeah. So you sit there and go, could you actually make a carrot? that's stuck in concrete, I guess, you know? Is he just living the life, just doing a TV show, making a whole lot of money and just doing fun games? Yeah, yeah. But it'd be stressful.
Starting point is 00:01:08 I've heard, I've seen an interview, I think it was with Conan O'Brien, who used to be one of the late-night talk show hosts over in America. And he said the stress levels you run on, being a late-night talk-show host are like, he said it was like surgeon levels of stress because you're like having to broadcast of the nation every night.
Starting point is 00:01:28 All live. Yeah, all live. and like you've got writers so sometimes he said he'd go on and he'd be like reading a script that he has had nothing to do with because it's like a machine you're just churning out shows after show after show
Starting point is 00:01:41 and like you're trying to, you're having to make gangs happen that you don't know what's coming you know so it's a real tricky job to do. I've always wanted to try I wonder if there's one of those let's see how good we'd be on the news I wonder if I could write up some scripts for us
Starting point is 00:01:54 and see if how good you guys would be under pressure or if we'd run burgundy it. Yeah yeah. I'd be terrible on the news. I wonder if I can make one for you guys I've always wanted to, I always thought when I was a lot, not a kid but when I was younger like in my teens, that was one of my jobs
Starting point is 00:02:07 that I'd want to do, be the newsreader. Oh really? You know, like, but I couldn't do it because I can't read and talk very well. Well that's, yeah, that's probably. Clip's got some experience doing auto cute. Yeah, and I remember even doing the weather, I got a lot more respect for the person doing the weather because not only
Starting point is 00:02:25 you're reading the script, but you're looking at the map and you're trying to, you actually really have to know your script quite well because you're actually not just reading the script with a map behind you. The best ones are very animated looking at the map, showing how the front's coming in and all the rest of it and they really bring it to life. Daniel on the one news, the TBNC News, is the British guy? He's good, eh? Yeah. Oh, he's good. Yeah, and so I filled in and did a couple of spots once and I was like, no, thank you. Oh, did you do with the ones? Not for me. Yeah, yeah. On the news? Yeah, yeah, like years ago,
Starting point is 00:02:58 years ago. Oh my God, what a dream. I always wanted to do the weather and then I realize how hard it was. Yeah, whereas... Can we somehow find the footage of Clint being the weather man? I did not know that about you.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Whereas hosting, like, a reality TV show is much easier because it's much more stop downs and they're trying to get cutaways of all the honies. You and Mike Peru have done very similar jobs. Yeah, because he did the weather for a while. And I think I was filling in for him when he was away. Like, that's the only reason why I think I did it once or twice, because he was away.
Starting point is 00:03:25 I was going to make another joke about what you guys are also similar in, but I won't do that because I am a professional. And she's already, you know, in that time, we've been talking about you and Mike Peru, she's prepared a script for... So, Dan, I've got two separate scripts. Dan, you're going to do yours. I'm going to scroll down slowly. You have to read it as if you're a news anchor, and this is all great...
Starting point is 00:03:44 I'd have a different voice, though, if I was a new anchor. Do your voice. Okay. Okay. Clint can I have some news music. Thank you very much. And then we'll do you. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:52 We're going to start in a couple of seconds. I'm going to take this out. And... Good afternoon. We interrupt this regular programming with some breaking news. A major incident has unfolded at a local bakery
Starting point is 00:04:03 where a man has reportedly stolen the last sausage roll. Authorities say the suspect fled from the scene on foot, carrying... Oh, me, things are popping up on the screen. Carrying a chocolate milk. That might happen, but you need to ignore that.
Starting point is 00:04:18 Oh, sorry. Okay, carrying a chocolate milk. Okay. The bakery confirmed that fresh, fresh sausage rolls are expected to arrive tomorrow morning, so thankfully life can continue. However,
Starting point is 00:04:31 witnesses claim there was the suspect looked directly into the camera and said, you snooze, you lose. Police are urging the public to remain calm and under no circumstances attempt to steal the last pie.
Starting point is 00:04:47 This is a developing story. We will bring you more if anything else happens. Dan Webby renews. Shocking. You did pretty good at the start, actually. I thought he wasn't bad. What do you think, Clint? Terrible.
Starting point is 00:05:01 I mean, the words were quite small. Maybe make them bigger for Claire, because he's got worse eyesight than me. And to be fair, yeah, if you're reading it, then you can tell the auto queue man or lady to make the script bigger or smaller. But if you do make it bigger, less words fit on the screen. Okay, so you don't know what words are coming.
Starting point is 00:05:17 One second, I'm just going to change it to... Why was their pauses? Do you want me to take out this? I just got a... Well, no, because I've just... explaining that I, the reason I was pausing is because it said pause for effect. There was no real need. There was no real need.
Starting point is 00:05:32 Okay, Clint, your turn. Oh, am I? Would you like a turn? Sure. Can I do the news voice? Yes, you have to do the news voice. I was doing the news voice. I get annoyed when people, nobody talks like this.
Starting point is 00:05:43 Do you know what I mean? Like, no one does. Why don't I was doing that? Okay, I was going to try and flip it to horizontal, but I don't know how to. So here we go. Oh, he's got a more official sounding one. We are breaking news tonight as the nation face. as an extraordinary situation.
Starting point is 00:06:03 A pair of school shorts has gone missing under highly suspicious circumstances. My shorts went missing yesterday and I don't know where they've gone. Police have confirmed that the shorts were last seen hanging on a bedroom chair. I last sold them on a bedroom chair. The family has described the loss as devastating,
Starting point is 00:06:22 saying we were planning to wear those tomorrow. In other news, a local teenager has eaten an entire packet of chips and is now claiming he was just having a few. Officials warned the tensions could rise if the missing shorts are not located before seven tomorrow morning. We advise viewers to stay indoors,
Starting point is 00:06:43 check their laundry baskets and trust absolutely nobody. See, he did it better though, only because his words were bigger. Okay, you want to do one more for me? Yeah, you'll be better than Clinton and I, I think. I'm not going to pre-read it, I'm just going to give you my laptop.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Dan. Can we give you a different news? I like the first one to be honest I control V here we go Dan I haven't not seen it at all I think Oh you're looking at it for a lot of off Just making sure I give you the right page here we go
Starting point is 00:07:11 Okay you want Dan's one? Yeah I want Dan's one please Okay oh I've always wanted to do this Judy Bailey Judy Bailey Okay Here we go Good evening
Starting point is 00:07:22 We bring you breaking news of a developing Situation as emergency services respond to an incident involving A Chicken on the loose The chicken was last spotted running through a residential street, causing traffic delays and widespread confusion. In completely unrelated news, KFC have reported an unusually quiet evening. Authorities are warning residents not to reproach the bird as it has reportedly shown signs of aggression. One witness described...
Starting point is 00:07:53 Oh, sorry. The chicken is fast, angry and surprisingly... well organized. Officials have now confirmed the chicken remains at large and we will continue to follow this story as it develops. Thank you, Megan Mansell. Question mark, at the end.
Starting point is 00:08:11 Megan Mansell? I'm Megan Mansell. I'm Megan Mansell. Good. Those were fucking shit stories. Oh, sorry. Chat, TBT. Yeah, oh, right. Sorry, but I didn't, couldn't just write up. I thought Meg was right. I was like, there's going to be
Starting point is 00:08:26 something at the end where we're just going to rom Burgundy it and read it. Look like Aho. I think I'd go better. on like it's more of like a newsy like I'm not reading anything but I'm talking about the news. Oh you want to be on like the project. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:40 When you talk about the news but you get to have your own opinion. And he gets through these. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, I need a piece of paper with stuff not written on it. Okay. Yeah. It's a bit lighthearted.
Starting point is 00:08:49 Tonight on the show we're joined by Chris Hipkinsley, the leader of the Labor Party and you know what he's not getting my vote this year but I will say that he has got some very interesting points. Chris, good morning. Good morning. Chris, your popularity rating has gone down a lot in the last few days. In fact, a few weeks, the latest Colmar-Brutton poll puts you at 19%. That's three down on last week.
Starting point is 00:09:11 Oh, you can't always believe those service online, actually, Chris. What are you going to do to bring that popularity up? Well, I think that we actually can't take real stance in those things. Next question. Well, I want to talk to, I want to drill a little bit deeper into this in some of your policies. You're saying that you're going to be bringing in a capital gains tax. What does that consist of? Sorry, who the fuck is this amaze me?
Starting point is 00:09:34 So he's my, I'm producer. I've told you, I've told you, Gary, if you could just keep your voice down. Sorry, I don't want capital. Sorry, I don't want capital gains. Did he just booing me? A lot of us don't, Gary, but we just need to sort of, you're the producer, so if you could just shut on. This is very unprofessional for the, yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:49 So if you just answer the question. What are you going to do? The capital gains, look, we'll see what happens. Explain the capital gains tax, first. Do you even know what that means? So, look, when it comes to government and running the government, Why the fuck you still do it? I don't think she knows what Capital Game.
Starting point is 00:10:02 Gary, you're not the co-host, all right? When it comes to running the government, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. What is Capital Gaines? If you answer the question. Yeah, well, in punctuation, it goes at the beginning of the sentence. That's the Capital.
Starting point is 00:10:17 And then Gaines... We're run out of time. It's time for ads with Mike and Gary. ZB. News Talk ZB. He doesn't know what Capital Gaines are. Neither do I, to be honest. I don't know. Something about a house. It's the profit that you make on your house
Starting point is 00:10:32 from when you buy it to when you sell it. So it's like paying tax on your income, but you now pay tax on the income that you make from selling your own home. With me selling my house now. So if you made $100,000 and the capital gains would say 10%, you'd have to pay $10,000 out of that $100 grand to the government.
Starting point is 00:10:46 Why? I don't want that. No, no, I don't know. No homeowners want that. Wow. In Australia. But why would they do that then, though? In Australia, they do that. And you pay stamp duty, which means when you buy a house,
Starting point is 00:10:57 you also pay like 25 or 50,000 to the government for buying one. It's ridiculous. But people in Australia say that we've got it real good here for home ownership in New Zealand. Join on the show now with Star of Love, actually, in many other films, including the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Pirate of the Caribbean franchise. Kiranit Nightly. Morning. Good morning. Is there pie?
Starting point is 00:11:22 I knew she's going to mention the pie. I've got a lovely Bonofi pie if you'd like that. Oh, my friend. favorite. Jesus, for, Caronite let herself go away.
Starting point is 00:11:31 I've lost it. You didn't have it. You never had it. Yeah. You never had it. Because you always told me I had it. No, I don't. It was more in the,
Starting point is 00:11:40 you have to see her way to believe it. She does an underbite and puts her teeth together. And that's half of it. But it just looks like, it looks like you've got some sort of constipation issue. That was the only thing I had. You don't do the accent or anything, really.
Starting point is 00:11:53 I can't really do accents. I think I can do it a bit a dull, but I don't fit Kira. Nightly likes pie like that. Honestly. Just like a homeless person with an underbite. I don't have any
Starting point is 00:12:05 any fucking things anymore. I thought I could do Michael Kane. Dan can do it better. But even I'm not very good at Michael Kane. Like there's a lot of people out there that'll do a great Michael Kane. I thought I could do Barack Obama for a bit. I'm Barack Obama.
Starting point is 00:12:18 No, you're not. You definitely not. Join by ex-president Barack Obama on the show today. Morning Barack. I'm Barack Obama. No, nothing. It's hard to play games with me when I'm like this. Some people just aren't good at impressions.
Starting point is 00:12:32 I know, and I'm not. I'm not good at impressions, unfortunately. I wish I could. I think it would be really fun. I think I'd do it all the time. You must be able to do. Those people, they can just jump in and out of famous people's voices. And honest to God, it sounds exactly like Denzel Washington or Matthew McConaughey.
Starting point is 00:12:47 There's something that is in their voice box that the rest of us, I think, don't have. Where they can just, like, manipulate their voice to sound exactly like another human. I think they make it look like that, but they've got hours and hours of practice behind the scenes that they've done it. But does that mean we could all do it and they've just honed their craft? Or it's kind of like singing. Some people are just very good at it and others can't do it. Obviously there's a talent with it, but I think there's also a real, they've honed their craft. That's why I say about drawing and you say that you'd just never be able to draw, but that is just practice.
Starting point is 00:13:16 No, that's like singing. No. I think no, drawing you have to have some sort of talent or coordination between your brain and your hand or whatever you're drawing with to be able to do it. You can teach, you can definitely teach people to be better, but to get them to a level of like painting the Mona Lisa, never. Do you know I tend to agree with you? Because there are those guys I see on Instagram where they'll be just throwing paint at a canvas, smushing their hands all over it. Oh, that's bullshit. And you think, what the fuck is he drawing?
Starting point is 00:13:43 Like, and it looks abstract, like nothing, nothing, nothing. Then at the end, he steps back and you go, don't have a clue what that is. Then he grabs the canvas, rotates at 180 degrees. And it's like Michael Jordan or like Kobe Bryant. And you're like, he was drawing that whole thing upside down to the point where it's unrecognizable. And then he turns around and goes, how is his brain doing that? I think, I think social media, TikTok online is so bad for our self-confidence because you can like work on something like singing or voices or painting.
Starting point is 00:14:12 And you go online and you see the best people at the world at it. And they're still not famous. They're still like just randoms on the internet that has like, hey, can you stay for two seconds? Because that means I might make $4 off this video. and it's the best fucking painting I've ever seen in my life and I'm like, well, if they're never going to make it. And you go to follow them, they've got 7,000 followers. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:14:32 I remember when I was in Thailand, oh, it's Vietnam somewhere. And you know they have those street performer people on the side of the road, and lots of cities, but this was in, I think, it was a very built-up area, very busy, and there was a man on the side of the road painting. And what he was doing, his point of difference was, he'd shove the paintbrush up his ass. And he would like paint. You didn't see that on Insta?
Starting point is 00:14:55 He was painting like, because I was like, I've got to do something different. Yeah, he was like, I'm really good at painting, but everybody's doing it with their hands. How can I? And so what he'd do is he'd shove the paint brush up his ass and he would paint the stuff like there and like he sort of squat over the canvas. But wait, so is everyone watching him do it bare ass? Yeah, no, no, he had. I think he had his pants on, but he just had them down, like sort of like a little bit round his like thighs. Are you making this?
Starting point is 00:15:21 I swear on my life. How have we never heard of this, Clint? How have we never heard this? Who is this street performer? He's not famous. No, no. How have we never heard about the time he went to Thailand?
Starting point is 00:15:29 It was years ago. Years ago. To be fair, that's not the most, like, amazing thing that people are doing with their privates in Thailand from what I've heard. Oh, we also went to this woman and she was doing ping pong stuff. And then someone was like, there was a goldfish on the side of the... Oh, that's horrible. No, wait.
Starting point is 00:15:46 She put it in there. Pop it out. Still same. It was fine. Loved it. Yeah, you don't know, Meg. I do think that would be pretty stressful for a fish. Oh, I'm sure it was, but that was fine.
Starting point is 00:15:59 It was like, not once to the complaint. Imagine the stories that it'd tell its mates for the next seven seconds. And they'd be like, then what happens? And he goes, that's a myth, by the way. Fish no longer than seven seconds. That's been the most horrible myth for fish because everyone's like, oh, well, abuse, it will forget about it in seven seconds. I think she had water in there.
Starting point is 00:16:16 She'd, like, suck up water. Like, I think that was part of the act. That's how you get infections. Yeah, well, she did it. And surely you're getting a UTI from putting a fish in there. Or just water. Is that what you, I don't think she'd be worried about that
Starting point is 00:16:27 at that level. If that's a crust, you know, if that's a bread and butter, she's a performer that puts things. If it's got a crush, she's in trouble. If she's putting things in there
Starting point is 00:16:36 for money every night, I imagine a UTI would be devastating. A crust on any body part is no good. I'm just looking at some of the things this guy's painted with his ass. Is he good though? Or does he just, does he?
Starting point is 00:16:49 So he's actually really talented. Yeah, like he did. He's such a shame that if you're like, draw me something. And you're like at a family function You're like, I could I'm really good But I can't really show you out
Starting point is 00:16:58 He did this one That's one of his works See? That's not good He's done That's terrible Yeah but like if you think about it It looks bad like that
Starting point is 00:17:10 But if you think he did that with his ass Are you thinking what I'm thinking? What Meg tries it No What the fuck is wrong with both of you Not just Meg We all try it
Starting point is 00:17:22 Obviously at the privacy Of our own home But then we have to bring the paintings If you want to shove something up your ass, you're welcome to do it. I don't want to for the show. That's any excuse me. He's like, he's like, he's like, he's going to go gently. Should we do it?
Starting point is 00:17:35 Got to bring it up slowly so it doesn't look I'm too keen. You can just, hey? You can just, do it now. She's already got it on. Fuck, he's already got a paper. You can just quench. Why did you find that? Have you had it up your ass on?
Starting point is 00:17:47 Why is the handle shaped like a cock? It's a drumstick. It's for drumming. You can just quench it between. your cheeks doesn't have to go up the honours. He's just got a whole load of doodles with it's got any of things. He's just tons up there. It's like fucking Mary Poppins hand back up his ass.
Starting point is 00:18:04 Fine, we won't do it. We'll find something else to fill tomorrow's sheet. Thanks, Clint. You feel free to do it. Bring it to show the show.
