This is a podcast from Rover.
This is the Overthinkers podcast.
Gora, welcome, Klamy and Dan.
And hopefully James joining us in just a few seconds, actually.
We had him on a couple of weeks ago.
He went and checked his lotto ticket online as the backstory,
and it said, do you've won a major prize.
Go to store.
So he went into store and he lined up,
and then he saw the blood drained from the person's face
behind the lotto counter.
And then they got everyone to leave the store, shut the doors, and said, you've won a major prize.
And after everyone telling him that for a long, long time, he finally found out from the lottery commission, he'd won $850,000.
Yeah, so we randomly spoke to him again this morning.
He told us a story then, and he said, I've got another story for you.
So we're calling him specifically for that story.
And Carl, our producers, like, this is the best story.
This is great stuff, great stuff.
So here we go.
James, we're back again.
What was the second story we missed out on?
Oh my gosh.
Are you sitting down?
You're ready for this one?
Yeah.
Sitting down.
Hold on.
I'll sit down.
Have you decided to buy my house, James?
That would be very good news.
You want to buy my house?
Chimmy's chips to you.
Right, okay.
God, he's really laughing, isn't he?
Maybe we can talk about that later.
Okay, James.
Tell us what happened.
Right.
The early story.
Oh.
You know, people winning money and they say people change and all this sort of stuff.
How my phone is doing something stupid?
Hang on.
Yeah, yeah.
You need a bit of your phone.
The phone sounds like it's in your pocket.
James buying you phone.
No, no, no.
I don't know.
Well, my car was running outside.
I think I was trying to jump into that.
Oh, right.
Yeah, like during they say people change with money.
I haven't changed.
I'm still the same person I was 50 years ago.
But my partner, oh my gosh, I never saw this coming.
Went out to my son's birthday, had an amazing time, all the rest of it.
Everything seemed to be as normal as possible.
She went home.
She had some clients coming.
She got her own whole business.
And I woke up in the morning with all these different text messages.
And the last text message said, because I'm not drowning her in money,
I'm not good enough to be with, so she left me.
She's stuck off, Jack.
has not left you?
100%. I'll send you the text
message. How long have you been together?
Six years.
Six years together. So is she now
going to try and claim half of it to hers?
Yeah, of course.
No, she can't because
I try to think I'm in an intelligent engineer
and when we first
got together after our first six months
things were going good.
I said, oh, we've got to go out for a
lunch date and meet someone so we organised that met my lawyer and did a pre-nup yeah oh you've done a pre-nup
done a pre-nup and i work for myself as a as as an engineer and and everything's tied up in my trust so
technically i don't own i don't own anything my trust owns at all but now that this money is
yours is it is it is it the trust money or is it your money and so is it outside of the pre-nup that
she signed or you think it's pretty watertight
No, it's very watertight.
My lawyer said it's watertight.
The accountant said it's watertight.
Do you think she's done a runner because she thinks, all right, well, I'm out of here
and I'll take $425,000 upon exiting?
But without knowing that she can't?
Well, if that's what someone's thoughts, they need to be there to be,
due diligence a bit better, don't they?
Yeah, yeah.
So, because I remember you said that you were actually going to surprise her for a trip back home, right?
Yeah.
Yeah, so I've got 80% of my money back on the tickets in the hotel.
Yeah, that's right.
So you had already booked it.
Did she know about it, that it was happening?
No, she didn't.
Oh, my goodness.
So actually there was a big surprise coming that you were showering her in gifts.
Sorry, I might have missed it, James, but what was the reason she left?
What was the reason she gave you?
Because he wasn't showering her with gifts.
And spending all of his money on that.
Is that the only reason, though?
Pretty much.
Wow.
Pretty much.
So she thought you could finally afford to give her a lifestyle that she wanted.
And now that you can afford it, you're still not giving it to her.
It's been two weeks, though.
I know.
But end of the day, someone's true colors come out.
Yeah, I'd be pleased if anything.
I'd love to know what my wife's price is to leave me.
Do you know what I mean?
Like if everyone, if you're like, hey, I love my partner.
And they go, do you love him more than five million?
Yeah, but it's still, like, in the end, it's so bizarre because unless she thought that she was going to be getting half the money, it's so bizarre to be angry after three weeks, especially when James had already planned a trip.
Where is she from?
Has she gone back home?
Well, you don't know.
I don't know.
I have no idea.
But I presume she's gone back to Thailand.
Yeah.
I mean, it's interesting, isn't it?
You were so right, James.
Like, people's true colours really do come out when there's money involved.
And I think when push comes to shove, you know, when everything else is gone, money's not that important.
The loved ones and your family and your partner are the more important thing.
Oh, 100%.
Like my close friends around me, I can count on one hand.
Yeah.
Once they found out, they all came up and they said, congratulations, mate.
You're one of the few people that actually deserve it.
They said, you work your ass off.
You work six, seven days a week.
You spend time away.
from your boy and, you know, he said,
you're always working,
and you're always happy to help someone when they,
you know, I get a mate rings up and goes,
oh, I've got a problem with this.
I'll always help.
And that's the way my dad was,
and that's the way my dad brought me up.
When you go to a bar, do they still shout around here and there, James,
or is everyone just expecting you to pick him up from now on?
I'll put it this way.
When we went out for the boy's birthday,
I emailed everyone,
and said, I'm paying for everyone's meals, all 35 of them.
Yeah.
And I'm paying for the first five rounds of drinks.
After that, you pay for your own rounds, and they said, oh, why?
I said, well, we're close to Christmas.
Yeah.
We're not that far away from Christmas, and I don't want to be responsible for anyone losing their license or something even worse.
Yeah, it's exactly, James.
And also, like, in the end, you don't, you have to be smart with us, and you obviously know that,
If you do just go and blow it in the first two weeks,
it will be like that guy.
What was his name, Trevor?
Trevor, who is famous for losing.
How many million, Clint, do you remember?
Was it 40?
He went racing over in the States.
You'll probably know being a person that's around motorsport, James.
Yeah, he went away and did some racing in the States and like Baja and stuff, didn't he,
and blew it all on motor racing.
Yeah, lost it all.
Sorry, he won 27 million.
Wow.
former supermarket checkout operator
from Ticofoto who said that he wasn't going to quit his job
but I think he left very shortly after getting the money.
Well, James, I'm like, I'm happy for you in the way
that you only want real people around you
when you come into money or something like this happens to you
and I think you're smart to say five rounds and you're right.
You don't want people getting absolutely plastered
because they think it's a free open bar
and then something sits on your shoulders if they make a dumb decision.
Or they only want to hang out with you
because they know you're going to pick up the bill
every time it's going to be a free night out for them.
So I imagine you've got to take the good with the bag
when you win First Division by the sounds of it.
I'm sure there's still more good.
It's probably just around the corner
and you're dealing with some of the bag quite early on in the piece, James.
But I appreciate you chatting with us again.
You're welcome.
Always welcome.
Oh, thanks, James.
And yeah, hey, if you want to buy a house in Massey,
just flip me a message.
Don't bother, James.
Buy a son of house.
Okay, James, we'll chat later.
There's better investments, mate.
Bye.
See you, buddy.
Wow
I was like he's not going to say
That his wife or partner or whatever has left him
Two weeks after winning first division
I think it's incredible right
My goodness me
Alright dang it's get fucking down to it
What are you got? What's your beef?
No well my beef is you wanted to read out the things
That I've said to you that are me
Oh no but now I know
Now I know that she's got ammo
It's like going up against America and have been a war
You know what country are you
Switzerland.
Oh, I'm going to be Switzerland.
I don't want to be America.
I'm just a lovely little country that's really got nothing.
Lovely little country.
Whereas you, I know you've got some ammo on me.
Okay, there's a few.
I literally can't even say because they don't want to get you cancelled and have to get a new co-hosts.
Truly.
Meg keeps a document.
Yes.
The things that Clinton and I say that are horrible to her.
Yeah.
Well, I'd mostly what you say.
I think there's one thing that I've said in here.
And mine was because you guys were all being mean to each other and I felt left out.
So I shouted so.
And I was.
And I would not be the type of person that would do the same,
but I feel like I've been pushed into a corner where I've had to start writing now things that Meg said to me.
And usually at 90% of the time, both of us are joking, aren't we?
Yeah, oh, I'd say 100% of the time, actually.
Oh, yeah, same, 100% definitely.
Not 90%.
What is your document called?
Hold on, I need to open it again now.
Things Meg said to me.
Oh, mine stands true colours.
Right.
Oh, then it does suggest that this is 100% meaningful, what I say.
Do we go one for one?
do click yeah i think so and then
some of these have been sent before let's let's send them out
like Pokemon so dan sends out an insult and then me
you said i don't want to start i don't want to start
clink can you have the bleeper ready for me because there's some things i can't
i literally can't say okay and then i will say who is more
hard done by and if you were more hard done by you get the point
if the person was meaner to you than you were to them
okay
who's going first
me can start meg send your Pokemon out
um just point to me don't go straight in with blast voice send out like a right
Yeah, I'll go small.
Some of these aren't even aimed to me, but he'll look at me when he's saying them.
No, I'm not.
I've got an ass going begging.
Oh no, that's me.
That's me saying that.
I'm going, I've got an ass going to begging.
That's what I'm sending out.
Meg's once said to me, you look like you smell.
I'll give Dan the point there.
That seems mean.
That's mean.
Like I've got a face that looks like a smell.
I'm not going first then.
Every time.
He's just going to do one that slightly bit.
Okay, now I've got it.
Okay.
Now I go.
again, okay.
This was just recently, in fact, I think maybe last week or the week before,
we'd taken a photo with someone and she said, Dan, you ruin that photo.
Clint and I look hot.
I remember that.
Dan, you once said to me, you look like you've got stinky tits.
Meg, she gets the point.
That's terrific.
Yeah.
You can't laugh at that.
Meg, two points.
No, meg's laughing as well.
She's laughing because she knows it's just water off.
Inside, I know she's heard.
Okay.
Which Pokemon will you send out?
Okay.
Okay, that one's too harsh.
I've got to...
Oh, shut up!
I've got some harsh ones.
Fuck up, Meg, no one cares about you.
I've got a similar one.
Shut up, Dan.
Nobody actually cares what you think.
Meg's is worse.
Oh, piss off.
The swearing, I think, makes it more...
Oh, God.
More intense.
Okay, I'm nearly running out.
Oh, I'm not...
You need to go first again.
Go first.
again.
Okay, I'll go to do this one.
Daniel, the gayest man I know, and I know a lot of actual gay men.
It's terrible.
It's horrible.
No one finds you attractive, so shut the fuck up, you ugly bit.
Megan, it's another one for you, babe.
Unfortunately.
Right.
Oh, shit.
So another one?
Yep.
I'll start off with this.
You're one of the dumbest female broadcasters in the country and one of the dumbest women I've met,
and no one gives a fuck what you think.
It's always.
That was fresh.
I remember that one.
That was today.
Super recent.
That was today.
I was joking.
Daniel?
Well, this is the only one I've got.
She said, Dan, you're not ugly, but your face does let you down.
I didn't say that.
You did?
Your body lets you down.
Oh, fuck.
You can have a point there.
That's horrible.
Your face is great.
Okay.
I would never say that.
Well, she did.
You literally said, you're not ugly, Dan, but your face lets you down.
So then now you've just gone.
No, then we're done.
I've run out of Pokemon.
Meanwhile, Mexico got her blast toys and Charazard.
And my poker balls are empty.
One of the least iconic women I've ever met.
That was a recent one.
Sometimes they look at you and I couldn't get any smaller.
No, I'm done.
This is so...
End it.
Pungent cunt.
Final jabs three.
Two, are we all done?
Yeah, we're all done.
Stupid woman, that was another one.
Shabbard up my stinking, you...
Overthinkers.
My God.
Daniel.
Sorry.
Did your wife listen to this podcast?
No.
Nah.
Of course not.
That's just as well, eh?
I feel like you get a telling off.
Why the fuck would she listen to that?
Hey?
Well, I don't know.
I thought sometimes she might be interested.
If I got it a real insult,
into my wife's work and what she got up to
but I listened to a 15 minute podcast. I would.
Hannah wouldn't even know we do another podcast.
What's she up to?
Hannah wouldn't even know. I would be surprised
if she knows where our podcast is.
Literally, I just got a message. Look at this.
Only fans from yesterday is hilarious
from my husband.
That's nice. This is every day.
What do we do yesterday?
He said, Dan bringing out the painter
with the ass brush and then
cut to the end where Clint suggests you guys do a
painting should be a video.
No one.
Yeah, no one wanted to do that.
Oh, yeah, in the bit where it was like,
he's one's shaped like cogs.
Oh, okay.
I love it.
Old gags from 24 hours ago.
That I made.
Yeah.
Okay.
Are we done?
We're going around.
We're going around the streets to do some guerrilla marketing.
Are we still on the podcast?
Yes.
This is all real.
Oh, I thought we'd finished.
I thought we'd finished on me consulting me.
Mike's still on.
Is it?
Yeah.
Oh, I see.
See the light.
No, end this.
I was just talking about.
No, end it way earlier than this.
Where would you like to end it?
You're honestly one of the dumbest male broadcasts I've ever met.
I'm saying, I'm starting a doc.
You're starting a dog.
If I honestly tripped over you in the street and you were dying,
I wouldn't give you mouth to mouth.
That's how much I disrespect you as a broadcaster and a human.
Imagine being brought back to life,
but then being shown the video of Dan doing mouth to mouth on you.
Should have let me die.
You'd love that, would you?
