The Edge Breakfast - OVERTHINKERS flashing
Episode Date: July 29, 2026We almost had to shut down the entire podcast today after Dan tried showing us his spray tan lines and gave the camera way more than anyone asked for. Between his developing fake tan, heated debates o...ver electric mountain bikes, and previewing our unhinged new alarm sounds, things got out of hand fast. You’re definitely going to want to hear this one!

This is a podcast from Rover.
This is the Overtinkers podcast.
Hi, and I'm welcome, Clint, Meg and Dan.
We do it radio show, but afterwards we record a podcast called The Overtinkers.
Welcome.
Oh, good to be here.
Welcome to everyone, Meg, welcome.
Also, I'm Clint.
I'm Meg.
And I'm Dan.
And that's Dan.
I was listening to a podcast, and I've started to get quite into it.
But I realized they never say who's who on this podcast of three.
and the three guys
that's obviously a bit trickier
and somebody actually texts them
being like they've been listening for two years
and they've realized they've had two of the guys' names
around the wrong way.
Oh God.
I don't think anybody's confusing Dad and Clint to be fair.
You guys sounded and they just are super different.
You know, and this is no shade to them
because they're a fellow radio.
Are you getting darker? Is he getting darker?
Dan, I reckon you're still developing from this morning.
I was 24 hours ago since I got it.
Dan got his brain down.
And they said,
wash it off at two. What time did you wash it off? At one. Okay, so an hour earlier. She said
2.30. She was like, keep it on until 2. In fact, now leave it on till 2.30. I think it'll
look it all look good. Nice glow. And I got home and Hannah was like, you look like a burns victim.
You look like being charcoal. You need to like wash off now. So I washed it off. So I was like,
I thank goodness for that. But you're right, Meg. It is still developing. So wait, how long
did you have it on for? What time did you have the spray tank? So I got it at 11. So I had it on for,
so I had on for two hours.
Well, it's gone that dark
Damn
Is it actually dark?
Can you show us your tan lines?
Where's your underline?
Show me?
Oh yeah, let's see them before and after.
Holy moly.
Holy moly.
That's a bit of something.
Wow, how low did you have your boxes down?
She would have absolutely seen some pubes.
I just saw some.
Yeah.
Oh, it's not hard to see pubes on my body, mate.
Who?
How far up do they go?
When do you go?
When a pubes stop and chest here start?
I don't know.
That's sort of intermingle.
It's like I've got a long, a high fade.
Surely it's belly button.
Yeah, it's a belly button.
It's like pubs stop.
Yeah, pubes, I'll show you my belly button.
Tubbs chest.
Yeah, pubs, that's pubs.
Okay, okay.
Okay, okay.
No, I reckon that's belly hair, belly hair,
belly hair, pure.
Video!
Video!
No, that's not going up.
I'm not cutting that out, Dan.
You just about put your whole dick in the podcast.
He's gone red.
Yeah, it is, it is getting duck.
I think his old Dick was in the pod.
You just, it was...
Oh, Clint.
Come on, it wasn't that low.
Anyway, it wouldn't have to be much lower.
But, yeah, anyway, so, there you go.
And I, oh, fuck up.
Who?
Me.
All right.
Yes, sure.
Okay.
I just know that every time I talk, sometimes I'd nail myself a coffin.
Don't I, you know, go down a hill that I shouldn't be down.
So let's just stop talking.
Okay.
Oh, that's going to be a hard podcast.
I was going to throw shade at the woman that did the tan.
But I won't because she already threw shade at me.
Yeah, the shade's too dark.
I'm just going to pop over there to Dan,
and I've got a bit of blonde to cover up again.
Okay, no, leave that to after because we're doing the podcast.
Well, this is not going to be an exciting podcast, is it?
Why are you bloody making my head?
Okay, so we're currently, not that anyone cares,
but we're about to go and do like a podcast, I mean a photo shoot.
and Meg's, I've got some frosted tips
to the stool there, like just a little bit.
Top right, you missed top right.
Hold on.
There?
There, yeah, above there.
Yeah, you got it.
Thank you, Meg.
And so, yeah, like, I had my whole hair died, didn't I?
And now since it's regrown, I've had hair cut after haircut.
And so now there's still a couple of little bits of frostedness.
Yeah.
But Meg's like, that looks sick.
I probably did the world's scariest sentence to Dan yesterday.
I said, can I be honest with you about something?
She said, she was like, as a friend.
And I was like, oh my God.
Can I be honest with you about something?
It was like, oh, God, what, what, what?
It's such a dicey thing.
It also depends on who you're giving that information to.
I just said to you, either are you going to cut them off,
would you want me to cover them?
Because it's just a small line.
You might have said it in past videos.
And so I think I personally think it looks awesome, Clint,
that it's gone now.
And it'll wash out, and it's fine.
Can we talk quickly before we,
because I think I am going to have to go shortly to my big photo shoot.
But what, in your opinion,
we've talked about this before
is the coolest
sport
or hobby to do
as a side thing
like you've got your job
maybe you're an accountant
but if I said
this is my hobby
motorcross
motorcross for you
I think if you're not doing it
like as an actual sport
and you're just going to race tracks
and just hooning around
I was saying it takes a certain type of person
who doesn't have that like fear thing
in their brain
you know they just like send it
Just live life a little crazy little faster.
Dungeons and dragons.
Okay, God, they do different, very different things.
Here's my thing.
I'm wanting a cool side thing.
Yeah, Dungeons and Dragon.
And I've tried so many things before,
but I keep coming back to mountain biking.
Which I would argue is very similar to motorcross,
except without the motor.
I would prefer Mountain biking to Motor Cross.
Dan's trying to get a little closer to motocross by adding a motor
because he's getting an electric bike.
Yeah, well, here's the thing.
if there's anybody that's listening now that is a mountain biker
and you'd say you're a true mountain biker
do you frown upon people that have got an electric mountain bike
so many people I know they have an electric mountain bike
and my uncle David and auntie Julie
because it's easier on their joints because if the pedal is hard
why would you even go mountain biking if you want to do it with an electric
but I go to the mountain biking tracks and I've got an analog
what do I call an analog bike it's just a normal mountain bike
with no motor and
more and more now.
I see dudes, my age and younger,
that have got electric mountain bikes
and they go way faster and it looks way sicker.
And they're not using them for them because they can't pedal.
They're fitter than me.
But it's just the speed it gets them up the hill quicker
so they can do the fun part of going down.
That makes sense.
Producer Brady?
Yeah, I used to a lot of mountain biking actually
at the Adventure Park in Christchurch.
And obviously we had a cheerlift,
so we didn't need to pedal up the hill.
But a lot of people had e-bikes like around the quarry
and stuff, and I think it's a great idea, because you don't
guess yourself biking up the hill, and as you say, Dan,
going down is the fun part. That's why you do it.
No one's doing mountain biking for the going uphill.
You've already got the job, mate. You don't need to be brown-nosing, Dan?
That's not going to get your head in life, Brady. If anything,
should be brown-nosing mega-eye. Thank you.
No, that's in his contract. He said he used to brown-nose me every couple of days.
Yeah, they added them in the other day.
Yeah, just to keep me happy. It's like an ego thing.
So, yeah. So keep your nose up there, brades.
Sounds like an 8-R-R-A.
What was that thinking about?
You can't close in your mouth again.
Yeah, sorry.
I'm down the hill again.
Yeah.
At least an odd-up one.
Like Brady.
He's a really funny guy, but I think he's a really funny guy, but I think he has like a limit.
Like he has...
Dad does?
Yeah, he's like a runner where he's like a 10,000 meter, like a 10K runner.
You don't put him in a half marathon because he'll blow out.
And I think maybe sometimes around this time, Dan spent.
used all of us good...
No, I'm not funny.
I just don't...
Oh, fuck up.
Me?
Me.
Honestly, I just can't be bothered.
You know, it's stressing me out going to this photo shoot
because I get so stressed with photoshoots.
I hate people taking my photo.
If people don't always catch our radio show
and I don't know, weirdly, you just listen to this podcast.
That would be so bizarre if there are people that existed like that.
Yeah, and when most of our energy and prep goes into a radio show
and you don't even listen to it, that's weird.
But at 8 o'clock on tomorrow morning,
we're going to be debuting our alarms.
How do we all feel about where we're at
with our original alarm sounds?
Mine is I've never been more confident about something.
Really?
Yeah.
Well, it's not me.
It's got nothing to do with me, to be honest.
I've outsourced the talent.
She can ignore me and hide from me
for her $20 lousy dollars.
I'll tell you what.
I'll get my $20.
Or she's going to get $20.
If you're not from New Zealand,
that rant went on for about two minutes.
It was quite scary.
And it was from a lady called Karen,
who actually is lovely.
And she voicemailed the wrong number.
And that's why that ended up going viral.
Like, someone released her going,
who was this crazy lady?
And who owes her 20 bucks?
Yeah, it was released on YouTube,
and it went viral.
You're right, Clint.
And she is, Karen.
She is a national treasure here in New Zealand.
She's famous.
People get her to record, like,
birthday messages now.
She does PR events.
and now she's done an alarm.
Yep. Meg, your alarm, we got a little tease.
Yeah, Agape. I love this piece of music.
Who is your alarm for?
Everyone. Mine's for the every, everyone.
I, strangely enough, Clint, just thought I need to do an alarm sound.
I feel at about six and a half with confidence with it.
You say everyone.
Huh?
Everyone will like this.
Yes.
What if I'm a little, like someone from China?
Mm-hmm.
I've grown up there and I've moved to...
Where's Mount Everest?
Nepal?
Nepal. I've moved there and I work halfway up Mount Everest.
Will I still like it?
Yes.
So everyone, where Flint has decided to do it specifically for a couple that only just got together,
but they're still sleeping in the same bed and they like seagulls at nighttime.
No, no, no, I had seagulls.
One of the most relaxing sounds.
That is not relaxing.
Well, I think with the right volume, it's probably coming a little hot, but it's ocean and sea guise.
It makes you think, oh, you're on holiday, you're waking up by the seaside.
Anyway, but there is something that happens during my alarm that...
The problem with a lot of alarms is if it's either too annoying or it's so pleasant that it won't wake you up and you don't hit the snooze and you sleep through it.
So I need to have an alarm that can do both.
He's ever thought it.
Definitely.
It's going to, if I had a million bucks, I'll put it on Clint's being the worst.
Mine, it was, would be a 10 if I had a higher budget.
If Jack, the boss gave me the budget that I needed, 10, I'm at 6.5.
What was the budget you were requesting for your alarm?
$150.
Jesus Christ.
Wow.
That's an expensive alarm.
He gave me money, 50 bucks.
Did he actually?
He gave me money, 50.
I then lowered my number right down to like 10, and he said no.
Whatever.
You want to see the emails?
literally the emails I said what was
10 bucks yeah and he said no
okay wait so you used your own money
and you've scaled the idea right back and tried to do it
like a no frills cheap version
yeah that's exactly what's happened
have you got a real person helping you or is this a program
that you are needing money for I'm not going to tell you anything
until Friday yes and then I'll tell you everything
I reckon what she's done and she's purchased like an AI thing
that mimics people's famous people's voices
incorrect that is not what I've done okay well then I don't know
I think she's gone like this sexy route
because she's quite like a
you know like a sexual being
why is everything about sex with you
I think she I think you have a sexy
I have not done anything sexy
oh no I haven't known
no no I have no
it sounds like it might be a little bit
it's a little bit sexy but it sounds of it anyway
look forward to those tomorrow
if you're listening to this it might not be tomorrow
but anyway can we make a pack before we head to photos
no jumping photos
no mouth open our legs up in the air
no mouth open shots
no jumping photos I'm also not
not taking responsibility when you both forget to do that.
You get carried away.
You do it.
Not my problem.
I've had an original idea.
Why don't we all hold pairs of headphones with the chords and going,
Ooh.
It's not plugged in.
It's not plugged in.
What are we doing with these?
I was literally about to say exactly the same thing Dan said.
It's such a classic radio shot.
What can I hear anything?
Where do we plug these in?
We're so amateur.
And then there's a little video of what are you trying to talk into the end of the cable?
And I feel like our gamut should be.
Clint McGinn, Dan, driving you to work.
Should that be the thing?
Should that be the thing?
You could do a driving action.
Yeah.
We could all be pretending to drive a car and going,
where do we play?
I just don't want to do the fake laughing ones.
I don't want to do the fake laughing ones.
We can do the fake laughing thing that is so over the top
that it's so unrelated because no one's ever laughed that hard at anything in their life ever.
You know who's billboard?
Yeah, I know who's beautiful.
They know.
They know.
They know.
Nothing is that funny.
No, no, no.
Especially if you work with Clint.
Anyway, thanks for joining us.
