This is a podcast from Rover.
This is the Overtinkers podcast.
Kiyoda, welcome, Klamiga Dan, your host.
Just finished our radio shows and now jumping into Overtinkers.
Yeah, good to see you.
Meigs being overthinking something very specific for the last 10 minutes.
Cresco?
Yeah.
Well, we're talking about Cresco because I think it's, I always wanted to do it.
And I grew up, I mean, by saying grow up, I remember when I was, I would have been 17, 18,
when I had one of my first jobs and I worked at first jobs.
and I worked at Flyway Curriers as the receptionist
and they loved Crisco
not they but the people that worked there
and I would remember they were like, it's amazing
you only spend a few dollars and by the end of, by Christmas time
I get all this alcohol delivered to my house
or all my food is completely sorted
because you don't have to worry about
suddenly paying $700 for your Christmas day food
because the hams are expensive and everything goes up
and you don't know if it's going to be in stock.
I remember the ads from back in the day
I just didn't know it was still operating.
It's still going yet.
We've just been doing a deck time down.
Oh, we have it because my mum, can I just say
my mum used to be involved in the business that was up against them.
They were called Goodwill Hampers.
And they used to be like the competing, but Crisco, the jug and all they were,
ate them up.
So actually, I think it's pretty good because I thought they'd really hike up the prices.
But I just looked, on Crisco for the Shark Flex Breeze portable fan.
Who's getting that for Christmas, by the way?
I know.
So you can pay $23 a week for it and you get it at the end.
And the total is $259 that you spend.
But if I want to buy it right now, it's $250.
So it's only $9 more to pay it off slowly over.
Oh, you mean $23 a month, not a week?
Sorry.
I was going to say, shit, there's like a thousand dollars.
Is it monthly? Is it a monthly thing?
It said, no, per week.
$23 per week for 11 weeks.
Oh, for 11 weeks.
I thought you were paying for the whole year.
Oh, sorry, no.
The thing that I, we used to get, I remember as a family,
we used to get the hamper, which is just the food hamper.
Obviously now they're branched out into gifts and everything.
And you'd get the festive hamper, and there'd be a day where you get it.
Like maybe it was three days before Christmas.
and the pantry was fuller than an ever was.
You'd have like biscuits, shapes,
you know, snacks, Waddy's ham, everything.
And it was, you'd live like kings for like a week.
And then you'd be back to poverty.
It'd feel like Christmas.
It would feel like Christmas, Clint.
Yeah, it was amazing.
But I think it's still a good thing.
They don't advertise.
I'm thinking of doing it now.
Should we do it?
Should we do it, do it, Chris Go?
Yeah.
My family, for as long as I can remember,
we've all put $20 a week into an account.
Yeah, you guys do it your own name.
And so when it gets to Christmas time, like a week out,
mum will go to the ATM,
and she'll pull out $1,000 40,
and we all get it in cash.
So my wife gets $1,000, $1,000, and then my brother and his wife.
And so then I guess you've got a couple of grand
that you can spend on food and presents
or just whatever during Christmas time.
We go camping, so there might be your accommodation expenses and things.
Is it meant to be spent on presents for other people?
I guess it's whatever you want.
It's just you've got to spend.
a thousand bucks in cash.
Do you just pay cash all over Christmas
over summer?
Wow.
That's just 20 bucks a week.
Why doesn't you just transfer it to your accounts?
I don't know.
Maybe that doesn't feel as special.
Yeah, I like the money.
Fair enough.
Yeah, we do it the same.
We just, every year I have an account that's like Christmas
or I have the kids' birthdays as accounts and I just put money into that
throughout the year.
So when it comes to the moment, I'm like, okay.
Okay.
Who has like funny accounts?
Oh, you have an account for something that isn't just like,
oh, we just use that for checking.
Let me read through mine.
I've got mental accounts, I think.
Okay, so I've got my account.
Then I've got spare gifting,
which I put money into whenever somebody's birthday is,
and so I can get money out of that.
Speer gifting.
Then I have snore guard save.
Go towards guy's snore guard that I want to get him.
How much is that?
I've got $0 in that one.
How much is a snor girl?
I think it's like $2,000, $1,000 to get a good, molded one.
Then I have every day.
Then I have the account that goes to my kindergarten,
so I make sure there's money in the account,
so it comes out of that.
There's a lot of people.
Then I've got a petrol account.
Then I've got a guy in Meg spend account.
If anything comes up, it's like we go to that account of like something like he just broke the car screen.
Is there money in all of these, like different varying amounts or some of them just empty?
Yeah, some of them are empty.
Some of them have money.
It's like the thought that counts stuff.
Daisy's fifth birthday as an account, Fiji 2227, where I'm going with my family next year.
There's an account.
I have an account for if their baby support, if we ever need any for Miller to be able to pull into that.
and then I've got a house deposit
like how.
That's giving me anxiety the two-minute house.
It's so whatever type, I don't think I'm type A
but that is so delicious to me
and I make the photos of like related to it
and I see the money move around or I love it.
I'd love to do that list but I can't see mine
because Hannah controls them all.
And that's on my...
I've told her to do that.
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
She's only doing that because you told her to it.
I said out of side out of mine, baby, you do that, baby.
And then she said, yep.
She goes, don't come in, baby.
Yeah, she was like, don't do that again, or I'll take all your money off.
Oh, Clint, we never get to hear about your funds.
What about yours?
Well, I try to keep them more minimalist than try not to have too many.
But I do, one of my favorite things is when we get paid, just moving it all around to cover things.
Even if it is just like mortgage and credit cards, but I'm like, cool, okay, I'll get that sorted.
I'll move some money in there because that goes out in Forteast.
I love sitting there and moving it all into where it goes.
Why don't you have that under automatic payment?
There are some automated payments
and that will go out
but for the most part I've got
The amounts are always changing
Yeah I got a massage it
Okay
Don't judge us
You don't fucking do yours
Yeah
I do and we have like
We've had an offerings account
For a long long time
That's always a nice one to have
Yeah that's awesome
I love that count
I count
Yeah and it was because
When we used to go to church
There would be like tiths
And offerings
So your tithe would be
10% whatever to the church
What do you earn
Yeah
It used to be really high.
That's one of those happy clapper ones.
And then I knocked that back.
Yeah, because I realized it was like ties and then offerings,
which is other things that you might give money to.
So when we stopped going to church every Sunday...
They would have gone broke without your 10%?
Jesus Christ.
They're like, thank God Clintz.
Maybe that's why they sent me all those texts.
Yeah, they're like, we need 10% of Clintz.
I haven't seen you in a while.
I don't know.
I don't know God was that money-hungary.
And I don't know whether all churches still push the 10%.
10% thing.
Yeah.
And there's a 10% before tax, after tax, God.
Who knows?
So then we started putting the money that we are normally giving to the church,
whatever, just putting it in an offerings account.
And it accumulated very quickly.
And so that doesn't count the money you might already give to save the children
and World Vision and other things.
It's just money that accumulates so that when you come across somebody that's hard up
and you go, man, I wish I could do something.
Is that my spare gift thing?
Yeah.
In a way.
And you can probably use it for mates in that as well.
But I tried not to use it if you were just out of a really.
restaurant you're like oh my shout because
oh see that's why I can't have that that's what I'd do
it feels a little bit like let's say my family ate with your family
make and I paid well then I'm still benefiting from that and the account's
meant to be for selfless things yeah yeah that's nice I like that
Dan what's your charity account looking like because I know that you drive the
orphans around yeah well but I've said this but I don't want to go into it
again but I'm not a money guy I'm about doing things and doing
actions and you know like money
I could give millions to the homeless and the underfrano.
I think I would like that.
No, but I think sometimes it's better actions.
It's easy to just transfer money.
I'm sorry, Clint, let me give you two options.
Would you like to hang out with Dan in a bus for half a day or millions?
I think I might take the cash.
Oh, well, some people just want an experience of going down to the park.
And sometimes that's worth a million dollars.
No, they literally have to, they literally have to pay me to be with you five days a week.
No, no, no, that's you.
but I said one of the lovely little boys
that I took out the other day, he said, he said
to me as he was getting off the bus,
he said,
oh,
he said,
thank you, Mr. Webby.
Where's he from?
England?
England, yeah.
Yeah, he said he was unfortunately orphaned over there
and they had to fly him over.
Anyway, it was horrific.
I don't want to go into it because it's traumat.
They flew him all the way over because they got no one
that's taking him around over there.
Because he's got really good orphanages here.
Do he?
And he said,
thank you.
You could have given me money,
but instead you gave me.
with Mary Poppins's mama
She's always off saving everyone
Except their own kids
Here's the thing with Poppins
She's depicted beautifully in the movies
But quite the piece of work
In real life
Really well
So this guy's come all the way to New Zealand
He finally gets told he's got a big brother of sorts
And Dan Weber
Where do you take him on your first out
I've heard
So we go
Speedway
No just to the park
With the ducks
Oh the free
Because inside they're cooped up in that orphan
with no windows.
What do you mean?
They cooped up with no windows.
I thought we're good at orphanages.
That sounds bad.
But some do you know you can't have...
You want free range orphans.
Yeah, you got to have windows all they'll try and escape.
You have battery orphanage.
So what you thought, what does this little guy need?
And he doesn't have a mum or a dad.
He needs to go and look at Swans.
Swans are good for the soul.
Let me have a look.
And anyway, so we took them out and he just sank me.
And I know that you have to give money.
Could you Google Meg?
What are the top most fun things to take an orphan to?
Oh, fuck off.
And see of swan watching is on the list.
Now, first up, I must say, swans can lift your spirits.
Yes, see, I told you.
I'm just, thank God for that.
Okay, right.
Okay.
What are the top five things to do with an orphan?
Oh, don't, no, because you're going to be gutted.
We'll just find out how many of them you've done.
Okay.
Okay.
Have you organised group games like play outdoor sports, team relays, or indoor board games?
Would you count duck, duck goose as a board game?
Yes.
Have you led creative work?
workshops guiding the kids through art, crafts or simple science projects?
Every now and then?
What was the science project?
Did you do one of those volcano things?
We had the baking zone?
Which battery lasts the longest?
Enaiser or Jerusalem.
Fuck me!
I would want it.
I would be like, send me back to England.
If I'm like...
Yeah, it doesn't...
Meg, the problem is he doesn't have the choice, darling.
There's a one-way ticket.
Have you hosted special pizza nights, festivals, birthday parties, shared meals?
Yeah, Tarko Tuesdays.
Have you read it and mentored them
spent one-on-one dedicated time reading books
and helping with homework?
Oh, the thing is me, I'm very time-poor,
so I can't do all of this stuff.
Okay, so you haven't done the book reading?
And what about have you planned
outdoor field trips?
Is that when you go to the local park?
This is in nature reserves.
It doesn't say swans, but it does say local parks in nature.
Yes, so there.
It is all the top five, Clint.
And what have you done, Clint?
Giving them a hundred bucks here and there.
Fucking hell.
Yeah.
Hey, you know how I don't want to be known as the fire guy?
Have you got one?
Oh, can we do it in the gun?
Oh, no, well, yesterday I took my son to football breakfast
and I was just going to do some work in my car while he runs around
because I run my daughter's training.
So I was like, this is my night off.
Someone else is coaching my kids.
They're good.
Anyway, all the kids are all running around and I'm just doing my own thing.
And I was like, I need to go.
And you know, you don't mind your own smell.
No, I don't.
What do you mean?
Mine.
Anyway.
He loves his own brand.
I drop a fart, but it's one of the,
those hot ones
that goes
fucking out
no noise
honestly
Eddie wants to be
not
he just said
it started this
but I don't
want to be known
as the fart
going
whoa hey
to be fair
I'm in the
privacy of my
own car
doing my own thing
right so
it's a hot one
put the windows down
no I do it
and I go
oh
you know sometimes
you go
fucking out
audibly
ho
you go
whoa
you go oh
geez
I swear to God
after I go
oh Jesus
it goes
it goes
three
two one
door opens
passenger door opens and my son
is standing there with a woman
and I'm like
okay she goes
hey the guy
and it will just
cause the hot ears bed inside he goes
who goes out
like when you open a long haul flight plane
and it was like
she goes
Helen hasn't arrived
for training I wonder if you could
run the boys for a warm up
and I don't want to
I'm in slides and it's freezing
I didn't bring boots or shoes or anything
but I know I've got about
three seconds
until that smell of it hasn't got her nostrils already.
He's like, yeah, I'll do it.
So I literally have to get out of the car
and shut the door to try and have this conversation.
I'm trying to move her away from my vehicle.
But she doesn't move.
I run right around from the driver's side
to the passenger side to try and shut the door.
But my son is standing in the door
and I don't want to make it obvious.
So I'm chatting with her going, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, cool.
What do you want me to do?
Let's go, let's go do it.
Let's get it far away from this car as possible.
How bad was it?
It was one of my worst ones.
But all fucking out.
By the way,
but he doesn't want to be no honest.
While I'm still chatting to her,
I smell it.
Come out of the passenger side.
And she's looking at me
and I'm looking at her.
And I'm just thinking,
I hope she thinks it's Thai.
Oh, that's a high.
I'm sure you do that.
Your poor tie.
She's like, that's not a kid.
I should have looked at him and done this,
oh, like this yuck, bro.
Like, look, that's what I should have done.
What an asshole?
I don't know if she smelled it,
but there's, I'm like 90% sure she would have.
And then I had to go and fucking run training.
I bet you did slightly blame Ty.
I bet you did look down of him like a little bit.
And if I hadn't thought I would just said, sorry, I'm not even in the right footwear.
And I'm going through some work stuff.
But I just had to get out of the car because I just couldn't deal with the embarrassment.
That reminds me.
She should have been like, sorry, did you shoot your pants?
Don't worry about it.
Have you got Castro?
It's going around.
Oh, my gosh.
Sorry, I just shit myself.
I was like, sorry.
I can't do anything.
No one's asking a follow-up question when you say, shit yourself.
All right.
Anyway, just so.
know, don't want to be known as the fat guy.
The door opens, can just go, I've shit myself.
I'll share myself, please.
Overe thinkers.
