Starting point is 00:00:00 This is a podcast from Rover. Make the edge off for your mornings with Clint McGinn Dan. Catch breakfast. Good morning, 6 a.m. Thursday. Oh, what a day to be alive. All right. Oh, what a show is. Yes, very exciting.
Starting point is 00:00:19 Clint today is making fire out of two sticks of bamboo. And that's not a joke. No, we're actually doing it. That's real. Yeah, I mean, obviously when I make fire, it'll be worth it. If I don't, I'm just a guy that rub sticks together for 90 minutes. Now we did a call yesterday, Meg, you weren't involved in the call. I think you were busy, but he called us yesterday on a messenger call.
Starting point is 00:00:38 We're all of us that involved in the show were on it. I'm good. Did I miss that, actually? I was grocery shopping, so that would have been a strange thing to see. What was going on? Well, he was rubbing two sticks together, if I'm honest. And I was like, this is what's going to be happening on the show tomorrow. I was, if I'm honest, and I'm going to be deadly honest.
Starting point is 00:00:53 Bored. You're bored. Yeah, bored. Well, that's why, while I'm out there making fire, we still have you and Meg kicking the ball to each other. you know, scoring a few goals. Well, I'm kind of in the background just doing my thing. I don't think the show should hinder on me making fire from 830. It's difficult to commentate paint drying, though, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:01:12 You know, there's not much happening. So let's hope that fire is made quite early on. It needs to be made quite, at least they need some smoke quite quickly to make people stay. Yes. Okay. And then I imagine as professional broadcasters, you guys have got something up your sleeve that you can always throw to when the game is a little quiet, you as commentators have something.
Starting point is 00:01:33 No, we want to let you shine for the first time ever. Yeah, yeah. And what you've mistaken there, you've said the word professional broadcasters, which we are not. Also, imposters, we find out who's been lying to us this week at 7 o'clock this morning. We're going to finally decide who we think is telling the truth, award them the cash, and then we find out if we've given it to the right person or not. We'll do that in an hour just after easy money. Oh, I've got a busy show?
Starting point is 00:01:55 I'm stressed. I'm thinking about it. Oh, and something a little controversial coming up. next few minutes. Is that to do with the beard, the fake bed you're wearing? No, I'm going to take so off. It's really itchy. Clint McGee and Dan
Starting point is 00:02:06 It's Edge Breakfast. The Edge. Clint McGee and Dan on the Edge. Hopefully there will be fire after 830 this morning. If there is, we take $1,000 out of our boss's pocket. And hopefully, fingers crossed, give it to you. I mean, this is all because of Jack.
Starting point is 00:02:18 He issued Clinton a challenge. I think you said a stupid passing comment that you could create fire. He was like, okay. Yeah. I'll give $1,000 to some listeners if you can do it. If I can make fire with two sticks. And in this case, pieces of bamboo. I think two things were.
Starting point is 00:02:30 happening there. I think one, I don't think he actually thought you'd go through with it. And then two, I think he really didn't realize how much you'd try to make it work. I've spent the last two days, like after work probably about two hours and then sort of give up around them because you're just, you're just gas, you're just exhausted.
Starting point is 00:02:48 We'll learn soon enough that we are the three most stubborn people that he'll ever meet. The fact you've been practising home is damn pathetic. But I will say this. But I am proud. I'm proud as well. And because of that, I stayed back yesterday after work. You guys had gone home. You go home about 9.30, not you?
Starting point is 00:03:03 10 o'clock. And I stayed till about 3pm yesterday, working on some songs. Oh, yeah, yeah. And just to sort of bring it to life a little bit. Give me some support when you're starting to lose, you know, all your energy at the end of the day. And so you can play some of these.
Starting point is 00:03:20 I would have helped you if you asked to sing on them. I don't need a good singer. Is it that? Oh, you've done the Sean Kingsley. I've done the Sean Kingston one. Nobody calmed. 9-1-1. Is there an accent, man?
Starting point is 00:03:40 It sounds like, is it Indian or Jamaican? Bit of a hybrid. Right. Not a lot of people do that these days. Yeah. Let's not play that one ever again. And so there was others as well. Nobody call 911.
Starting point is 00:03:53 Yeah, that's if you don't create fire, which is quite highly likely. I think I did a couple where there was a positive outcome. Play another one. Bamboo. Bamboo's not on fire. There's not the negative one. Bamboo. Bambuos
Starting point is 00:04:07 But you need to cover both bases Like if we go, He hasn't, he's managed to fail here Oh well Yeah Sticks not on fire Sorry, I didn't lean into the negativity Quite a bit here
Starting point is 00:04:26 Did you do a positive version? At all? Maybe, yes. Yeah! So you cover both bases there I thought it was going to be A really not on fire Yeah
Starting point is 00:04:40 So there's more that we're gonna We're gonna play more of them Throughout the morning I was here for five hours I've recorded 15 different songs Poor Grant, that audio guy. He's like, what is my job sometimes making stupid songs for these idiots? And you'll be pleased to know Meg doesn't feature on any other.
Starting point is 00:05:00 Take the edge off your day with Clint Meg and Dan. All right, it's time for a highlight from our Overthinkers podcast. If you don't subscribe to it, you might have missed this. We have some fun on the Overthinkers podcast, don't we? Yeah, especially when out of the blue, Meg decides to share some. something that wasn't part of the plan. We didn't know it was coming, but I do love an oversharing friend. This is what
Starting point is 00:05:24 Meg decided to share with her best mates that we now have decided to share with you. My belly button's infected. The piercing. Honestly, I just about threw up on the spot. Well, the piercing doesn't go away. Just finished food. Jesus, yuck. What do I mean the...
Starting point is 00:05:39 She made me breakfast this morning with an infected belly button. Oh, that's disgusting. The hole has just always been there. Don't they close up? No, well, they do. but it's still like a little hole. I don't know. Have you got, like, food or something in the end? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:05:53 I just saw it. I just, like, saw it yesterday. I was like, oh, that's a bit weird. God, how much of a slob is she that she's got food in your belly button? I shower more. In the tiny hole that should have closed up. I shower more than both of you. I showered twice a day.
Starting point is 00:06:04 Is that nacho mints in your belly button? Tonga goes, I know, I know what's wrong here. You got a piece of Dorito in there. That's what it is. That's what it is. That's main, actually, because Meg is a vegetarian. So although you can kind of see like if someone's trying to feed you meat and you went get that away and you whacked it and then you went
Starting point is 00:06:24 I just fell into my folds somewhere And you know sometimes food falls And you go where did that go? What do you mean? Like what do you mean? My surface area is not so large. And she's not eating dinner topless. Like what's going on? She could be wearing a crop
Starting point is 00:06:41 Like a little crop and goes where that go and not realizing it's gone into the belly button person. I do say like I, I do say like I. quite often have something stuck in my belly button. It's usually lint. Why don't you have a look now? We've done this before. It's too early in the day. I say, no, I say it's dark blue.
Starting point is 00:06:57 When I push on my belly button, it actually makes me like... Feel funny, eh? Yeah, it's funny. It's almost like I'm powering down or something. It's weird. I know that feeling. No, nothing yet. But usually by the end of the day, and there will be a lot of guys listening right now that agree with me. There's usually a bit of lint.
Starting point is 00:07:14 I mean, this is disgusting. Depends if you've got an in here and howdy, I think. I've got an very deep belly button. Really? How deep? Like, we've talked about this before. It's like a knuckle deep. A knuckle? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:25 No, that's got to be a record. What is Meg? What is the New Zealand or world record for the deepest belly button? Why are we always so obsessed with records on the show? First knuckle? Second knuckle. Oh, the first knuckle. Okay, so what are we talking probably about?
Starting point is 00:07:39 Oh, three centimeters? Yeah. I've never seen the end of it. It's like Lake Topo. I don't think anyone's seen the ball. I've seen the bottom. It's a great analogy. Unfortunately, there is no word record for that.
Starting point is 00:07:54 Oh, really? Can anyone beat Dan? Can everyone right now? Most any's are about one to two centimeters deep. Oh, we're not mine. Well, Dan does have big feet too, so he's got, like, bigger than the average in most things. Not all things. You know the famous saying when you've got big feet, you've got a deep belly button.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Can everyone... Oh, they can reach up to nearly four centimeters? That'd be more likely. Can you get your finger right now if you're driving to work, whatever? you for one hand off the wheel and just put your finger into your belly button and then see if anyone's is going to the knuckle. Yeah, don't do it if you're driving a manual though because you need one foot on the gear stick, I mean one hand on the guest. Don't you drive with your feet, man. This is you really good.
Starting point is 00:08:31 Carl, do you have a ruler? How much is that? What's four centimeters? 40 mil. Yeah, I can't imagine that. Is that damn it? No, that's like less than one centimeter. Okay. Yeah, yeah, like that. I'd say it'd be almost our four centimeter deep. Like an inch. Hmm. Anyway, I think we've talked about belly buttons enough. Okay, is anyone getting their second or their first knuckle when they're putting their finger all the way?
Starting point is 00:08:55 Nate says, I'm fat as, so my whole finger goes. Radio, I just been done. My boy. Edge breakfast with Clint McGinn Dan. All right, first call of the day. Come and join our unstable energy this morning. 0,800 the edge. Let us know we've got a plan for the rest of the week.
Starting point is 00:09:09 Maybe Nathan can call. We can bro down about our long belly buttons. 20sum past six. got a scandal update and what's going on the world of entertainment. Good news, sad news, bad news. Nice news, yeah. Okay, cool. Yeah, good news today. It's breakfast, Clint McGinn Dan. Edge.
Starting point is 00:09:24 Clint McGahn scandal. Robbie Williams was given a girl's phone from the crowd mid-show where she surprised her mom with a video call. Cool. In the middle of a show, you want me to phone your mother and tell her that you're fine. How you do? Right now, Kasha, can I sing the song for you?
Starting point is 00:09:54 Okay. I was her. She was me. It was so cool. He doesn't, he sings the full song to her essentially while she's on a Zoom call. And if there's somebody calling me on the band doesn't kick it. No, they do in the end and he still keeps singing it to her. Wow, how good.
Starting point is 00:10:14 He's a great performer, eh? Like such a great crowd man. He's been doing it long enough to know. what works and what doesn't, I guess. One of my favorite follows on Instagram, too. He's a really intelligent guy, and he's super vulnerable with his emotions online. And Olivia Rodriguez secretly paid for a girl's uni fees online that she met on TikTok. Olivia, I don't know if you'll ever understand how much that means to me.
Starting point is 00:10:36 You made me feel like I belong on this platform. You didn't owe me anything. You just chose to show kindness to a stranger. That's so nice. Olivia Rodrigo, sorry, her DM's going to be blow it up now. Yeah, I know. So she, this young woman was the first in her family ever to go to uni. And so she just spoke about that experience.
Starting point is 00:10:58 Olivia Rodriguez saw the video. Not to make it about me. First Randall, do you ever go to uni? Really? Yeah. That just shows that the Randalls are very unsuccessful, though, I think. Just hats. In Auckland.
Starting point is 00:11:09 The Edge. Clint Meg and Dan. Sorry. The Randalls all made their money, like grafting, hard work, calluses. And I was like, I don't really want to do that. Not for me. I'd rather sit in a chair and just talk. All the Randals I know, they are genuinely very successful, eh?
Starting point is 00:11:25 Amy. Yeah, very successful in all things. Is it true your family calls you fader fingers because you don't have working man's calluses? Among other nicknames, yeah. Get your Clint Meggin' Dan Fax. We were talking about belly buttons earlier, and Susie said when she was a kid,
Starting point is 00:11:43 she could pull hers from an iny to an outy, kind of like a, I imagine, like a balloon knock. No, I can't. Pull it out. Look, I love you, Susie, but that's foul as, man. That's a hell of a party trick. First call of the day. First call of the day.
Starting point is 00:11:57 Hey, Gemma. Good morning. Jimma. How's Central Otago? Good, Gemma. Beautiful Central Otago. What's it like this morning? I bet it's chilly.
Starting point is 00:12:06 Oh, it's not too bad. We've actually had really sunny days and it's been really warm. Oh, how many? I'm just out walking the dog at the moment. Oh, nice. It's wine country there. How many bottles of red wine do you have? can you have in your house.
Starting point is 00:12:19 I don't drink wine. I don't drink wine. What? That's like living in McDonald's not eating burgers. Yeah. You just like give me vodka. Give me a bowl of vodka. You need to be in Russia.
Starting point is 00:12:29 Russia. Russia. I don't know if anyone's racing to Russia, are they? Like, has anyone got Russia on their places I'd love to visit, like top ten? It's one of those places where you want to, like, I know Chernobyl, where they had the nuclear meltdown. That's now a tourist attraction. You can go there.
Starting point is 00:12:45 And there's still radiation there from where. when the meltdown happened. Not for me, Sam. What about you, Jim, when's the next holiday? Wow, oh my God, this week I've just booked a family holiday to the Gold Coast. Yeah. Get in. Love the GC.
Starting point is 00:13:00 That's exciting. Oh, we've never been there as a family. So me, the kids and my daughter's boyfriend, so I was over. Did he pay for himself? No, no, I've paid for him. Cool mom. That is a cool mother-in-law. How old is your daughter to be allowed?
Starting point is 00:13:17 boyfriend to come on a family holiday? She's almost 16. Okay. Wow. Cool mom. How long have they been together? What do you think? Well, I mean, too late.
Starting point is 00:13:29 I do like the idea of like giving your kid responsibility at a young age to see if they can be trusted with it. I mean, now it's up to her to either keep your are they in separate hotel rooms or the same hotel? No, we're in a two-beder- apartment. Now he doesn't live here
Starting point is 00:13:49 so he comes every second weekend but I think it's fine. I don't know. It's just they're going to be together no matter what so you may as have them on side. Yeah and it's Stephen you're right Dan I think you're got to have them like trusting you at that sort of age but yeah in a year's time
Starting point is 00:14:07 hopefully they're still together it's young. And I think you turn around and say hey look we're trusting you and giving you this responsibility and if you know you do well with it then you get more responsibility If you don't, then the leash gets shorter, I guess. Yeah, it's a trust and respect between me and my daughter as well. How long have they been together, Gemma?
Starting point is 00:14:26 Fascinating. They've been together about eight months, but we've known each other about three years. Oh, yes, they know each other. Yeah, cool. Okay, so you know his parents if he messes up. Yeah, I've met all them. Yeah, yeah. Oh, this is great.
Starting point is 00:14:39 Yeah, he's just like one of the kids, really. And Gemma, obviously, you're putting your weight behind Clint this morning when he, tries to make fire after 8.30 this morning. You think he can do it? I actually think he can because I know, I think you're like me. You get something in your head and you're like, I'm doing it regardless. It'll happen. Are you a tourist? No, I'm an aquarium. So that's interesting. Okay.
Starting point is 00:15:05 Yeah, when someone says you can't do something, then all of a sudden you make it your life's purpose to prove them wrong. You've got to prove it. Yeah. Okay, well, hopefully you and Clint don't look like idiots this morning and he makes fire and we all dance and it's a happy time. Because if he doesn't and there's just smoke, it's going to be a shocker. Yeah, although Dan, if you missed it, Jim, I wrote this song in case I don't. Nobody called 9-1-1-1. I don't think we can play that one many times, plus.
Starting point is 00:15:34 What's the song if he wins? I didn't really make many of those. Jim, thank you so much for Quanglias this morning. Have a great day. All right, Nauty 640 is up next. Is this the new Love is Blind, UK-season douchebag? Exciting, Martin Clint's favorite reality show. They've clipped him up and it seems like he says the same thing to all the ladies.
Starting point is 00:15:57 Get your Clint McGinn-Dan-Dan, maybe for Nordy 640. I wonder whether or not we can focus on the guy who seems to be getting the most attention in Love is Blind, the new season, the UK version. Where can you watch it for people that haven't watched it? Because it is a great watch. Netflix. Netflix, okay. Yeah, and if you haven't watched it before, go back to the start. The first season is so juicy.
Starting point is 00:16:20 since it's great because nobody knew what to expect. They had no idea what they were signing up. And now people a little bit know what they're doing, what they're getting into. I mean, it's interesting. I think the first season was also a mixed bag of what people looked like and now it's all just hotties.
Starting point is 00:16:33 Yeah, I noticed that in the trailer. They're all just smoke shows. It's super hot. Essentially they're in booth saying they can't see each other until they choose their partner. The only way you get out of the booth is by proposing, which is crazy because you've known them through a glass wall, a frosted glass wall.
Starting point is 00:16:47 For like two weeks. Yeah, less maybe even some of them. It's so wild. And yeah, the first earlier seasons really was a mixed bag of what people look like. And so that made it so juicy because you'd be like, oh, God, he's going to be so happy. Oh, God, she's going to be shocked. And obviously, it's meant to focus on learning who this person is whilst not worrying about their physical appearance.
Starting point is 00:17:09 But you've got some guys famously on the show that would be like, I love going to concerts. And when I'm at concerts, in festivals, I love putting my girl on my shoulders. Would I be able to do that with you? Oh, God. It was so obvious. Could I lift you up to see the stage? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:28 You're probably struggle, if I'm honest. It's how big your muscles are. And that was just the tip of the iceberg. The pro just, oh, he was unstoppable. So the UK doucheback this season might be the guy I'm just about to play you. Or am I being harsh? Because he seems to be using the same lines on all the girls. So it seems like he's repeating himself, but he's talking to a different person each time.
Starting point is 00:17:51 Love bummer. Your voice is amazing. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. You sound like you could, like, stroke my head and talking to sleep. Oh, my God, I love your voice. I can't get enough of your voice.
Starting point is 00:18:02 I fancy you just by talking to you. A stunning voice. Thank you so much. You sound right out of my street. I'm not going to like you. I'm putting you in the top. You're up there for me. I'm going to say that.
Starting point is 00:18:13 I'd like to know whether I'm someone who you're ranking as high as I'm ranking you. You're up there, face. Interesting. If you're ranking me as highly as I'm ranking you, then I'm ready to start, like, focusing all my energy in one place. Because you're very, very, very high currently. As in, don't think you can get higher than how I rank you. Yeah, you're going to kiss him through the spot.
Starting point is 00:18:36 And then he starts kissing the glass and stuff. You know what? I don't know. It could go either way. But if I was him, that was the technique I would use because I just want to hedge my pants. You just want my old Dan. Oh, Dan. Clint would be watching Dan going, oh, buddy.
Starting point is 00:18:48 Do you know the problem is that once you propose, if you haven't watched the show before, and then they go about their lives and they get together. There is an episode later on the track where they get to watch what their partner was like in the pods. So then you realise the thing that caused you to fall for them, they were doing to everyone. And you weren't all that special. So you've got to be careful to your jen your bets. You don't want to be the one that's left at the end where no one chose or you didn't partner up. I know.
Starting point is 00:19:12 You know, so I'd be gone, I'd be all guns blazing. You're my number one. Get your Clint McGinn-Dan-Dan fix Climbingdon You guys think is funny It's not funny Okay so little peat behind the curtain So Clint's doing this thing
Starting point is 00:19:26 Later on this morning at 830 Where he's going to try to create fire From 2 bits of wood It was a challenge issued by our boss, Jack If he can do it If he can create fire A thousand dollars to a listener Now Meg and I and producer Carl
Starting point is 00:19:40 have gone behind the scenes And purchased Clint A caveman costume But yeah Does cavemen make fire Obviously, ha ha, cool, thanks guys. I'm going to look like an idiot, even though I'm doing something quite serious. Dan has said that it needs to be shorter, so...
Starting point is 00:19:52 I said it doesn't need to be shorter. The guy in the picture is a short guy, and that's why it looks like it goes to his knees. So we went to a costume shop and brought this cabin costume. It looks, it needs to be, I will agree, a little bit more loin clothy. Yes. And so Meg's cut a couple of slits out the side. No, I think she's done it more to the middle. And now we've put it on.
Starting point is 00:20:12 The slits right down the middle. You're going to see side sack, which isn't as a track. The beside boob. I don't think cavemen didn't care about that, Clint. And what's so funny, it's obvious, Clint's like, oh, it's not funny, you've ruined it. He's genuinely, like, disappointed. Because there was a car, ran around.
Starting point is 00:20:30 At the top of this voice break, Dan said a little pick behind the curtain. We get way more than that at the moment, mate. The curtain's fully up, mate. There's no, can you've removed the curtain? We've seen the full cast. It depends if I wear it backwards, I can cover my front a little more, but then my tushies out. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:45 Well, it's lesser of two. people's, I think. Yeah. Remember, I'm going to be crouching with sticks between my legs, so it's already going to ride up anyway. You should have got me to put it on before we said cutting bits off. Yeah, we didn't think about that, do we mean?
Starting point is 00:20:58 We got all gung-ho. I'm sorry, I was excited. We got excited. We saw the scissors. Me, I thought you're a really good crafter. You absolutely balls that up. No, the pun, not intended. And the slit, the slit comes up to my hips.
Starting point is 00:21:11 Oh, God. It does, but if we just give it a few more burn-hot. then it will look like you're a proper caveman. And the good news is you can see this live on the live stream after 830 this morning. If that doesn't sell it for you. Yeah. And Dan's whipped together a whole bunch of songs to G me up, although some of them do the opposite. Clint didn't start the fire.
Starting point is 00:21:32 There was lots of robbing but nothing burning. It's good that you've done these, Dan, that they're upbeat because I feel like it will be a really sad moment when we've wasted our time watching Clint for an hour and a half, robbing two sticks together. Let's rehearse it. Oh, he hasn't made fire sad. Bambu, bamboo, bamboo's not on fire. That was a bit down, buzz. He tends to start to another part of that song, I think. He didn't start the fire, send the mother,
Starting point is 00:22:01 home, send the mother. Very good. So, yeah, there's a lot of options there, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. There's about 20 other songs. Yeah, okay, well, we'll get through them hopefully before 8.30. And then we've got to work out how to give this cash away, because there will be cash.
Starting point is 00:22:18 It just depends if it's $1,000 of the boss's money or $300 of mine if I can't make fire. Very interesting. Texas is coming as well. James, he said, sorry, do I miss the win of the lie segment? No, that is coming up today. You can vote now, tell us, if you know all three stories. Yeah, the imposter, three stories.
Starting point is 00:22:34 One of them's telling the truth, two lies. We decide who's telling the truth next? Yeah, and we'll give you a chance to win a thousand bucks in the next 90 seconds. So we'll do that first. If you want to have a crack in it, the letter this morning is, H H for whoa! Is that a ball? M.S.W. Do you spell?
Starting point is 00:22:55 Oh, wait, under the edge. Let's see if we're getting a thousand bucks. Listen to your favorite breakfast show whenever you like. Clint McGinn-Dam. The Edge. Your favorite game on the Edge? Just hits. Easy, money.
Starting point is 00:23:08 Here we go, bang on 7 o'clock Thursday. Let's give me a thousand bucks. We need 10 answers starting with the letter H in 30 seconds to win the cash. You can pass, you just can't give the same answer twice. All right, Kim, let's go. You're ready? I'm ready, buddy. Okay, you can do this.
Starting point is 00:23:24 All right. Letter is H. Time starts at the end of Meg asking you your first question. Give me a shape. Hickson. A food. Ham. Something you find in a bathroom. Hand towel.
Starting point is 00:23:40 A TV show? A NCA subject? History. A car part? Handle. A city? A musical instrument Time, Kim
Starting point is 00:24:03 You got six and past one So you got through seven Just wasn't fast enough unfortunately Good effort, though Yeah, it was a good effort You got everything wrong, one pass But I just think you needed more pace Yeah, sorry about that Kim
Starting point is 00:24:14 The TV show How I Met Your Mother, How's Hannah Montana Have you been pan in tension TV shows and celebrities Always stump people, eh? Because you used to overthink it Yeah Yeah
Starting point is 00:24:24 All right, well give you another chance At 8 o'clock And if you're unsuccessful there Well, then we'll give you a chance to get yourself in the draw for Olivia Dean tickets. Hey? We need to make some... We need to make some decisions next, guys. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:38 Yeah. We need your input because last time you were the ones that won it for us. We want to find the truth teller. Mm-hmm. It's next. One truth. $200. Who's lying?
Starting point is 00:24:56 We give away $500 next and we need your help to work it out. I'm stumped on this one. I'm still not... I'm still understile. All week and Dan Edge Breakfast The Edge One truth
Starting point is 00:25:07 Two like $100 All week we have had Three people tell us The same story That on Christmas Day When they were 12 years old A helicopter landed in their backyard
Starting point is 00:25:22 And SWAT Stormed the House What would you be putting Your own money on If you had to Pick out who was telling the truth Between Indy Who I believe
Starting point is 00:25:32 Have we got a little recap Yeah This was Indy And the reason why it happened to her So it was actually like nothing bad or sinister was happening. So we were staying at my
Starting point is 00:25:41 aunt and uncle's house and they basically had a friend who was in the police and they thought it would be like a really awesome Christmas surprise for us kids if they would come and pop by. It doesn't seem feasible, does it? She was my pick yesterday. By the end of the day I was like,
Starting point is 00:25:58 I think it's her. And then we had Lucy. It was kind of weird. Like my little brother, he has a thing for helicopter, so I thought maybe mom and dad had got the, you know, fertilizer helicopter to pop by. Then there was all these people and white suits coming through. And, yeah, it was actually kind of scary, to be honest.
Starting point is 00:26:20 And she went on to say that they had mistaken her house for a meth lab bust. Yeah, there were two mistakes in stories because the third story was Isaacs and his was also a case of mistaken identity. My mum's actually a midwife. And around that time, she was given out nettles and things to her client. because it's, you know, good things during Christmas, and it's time to give presents and things. Somehow the word got out,
Starting point is 00:26:42 and a lot of the neighbours thought that the bags of nettle tea were actually something else, and it led to a bit of an investigation. And obviously, because they got it wrong, he said that the police ended up paying for their, like, Christmas. Yeah, that's right. Indy, Lucy, or Isaac, who is telling the truth? That's what you need to vote for now, Texas, 3, 343.
Starting point is 00:27:04 Yeah, I'm leaning towards the last guy. Isaac. Isaac, yeah. I was leaning towards indie, so we're just... But if you both Isaac, then I'll follow him. Okay, wait, this is what people have said this week. Yeah, and it costs heaps to do that, so I think it's, yeah, it's a bit fast-hitch. Oh, well, if they're going to do a meth bus, why would you wear black, right?
Starting point is 00:27:22 Yeah, the first guy was talking about why would you spend money just, like, to go and impress kids, and then this was people talking about Isaac's story. I mean, everybody said he's saying the word actually a lot, but then the other girls kept saying like a lot, so... And I think guys, also, you can hear when they're lying. He was talking a lot, like, really fast. There's someone's text through saying it's Lucy, I'm telling you. She's telling the truth.
Starting point is 00:27:44 She's the messbuss. Right? Meth bus is Lucy. Jane said Isaac's giving chat GPT vibes. Oh, that's why he sounded confident maybe he'd, like, gone in chat to write out how could this be? Oh. Oh, that's interesting. Tantic, I didn't even think to do that.
Starting point is 00:27:59 The only hole in Isaac's story was when he said what colour the helicopter was, and then Dan Googled the helicopter colours of that year and they were different. No, so he also said, remember. he was in the yard and then he also was opening a boogie board at the same time. So that was... I think he just sounded super believable to me. Like he's telling a story that actually happened to him. Okay.
Starting point is 00:28:17 Let's quickly go to Jason. Jason, what are you saying for our final few seconds before we lock somebody in? It's got to be the first lady because she has accents. She said she said she's an American force, not a New Zealand force. But we still call it SWAT on New Zealand, even though we know it's not a thing. Yeah, I know, but people don't know that. Like general public don't know that it's called the arm. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:28:43 Well, Jason, to be fair, Indy, the first girl, her stocks are coming up a little bit. There's a few people throwing out that she might be telling the truth. A lot of Isaacs as well. I think Lucy might be out of the running. Yes, she is. It's between Isaac and Indy. What do we think? Last chance, you've got three minutes to get your votes in,
Starting point is 00:29:01 and then we will give somebody $500 that we believe has been telling us the truth this week. We'll follow your lead, but you've got to text us now, please. Or we can end up giving it to an imposter that it didn't even happen to. Come on. We don't want to hung jury. Indy is Christmas gift. Lucy was meth bus. Isaac was mum marijuana.
Starting point is 00:29:23 Take the edge off your day with Clint Meg and Dan. One truth. Two eyes. Oh, no. And 500 dollars. Clint Megan Dan's imposter. Okay, Indy, Lucy, Isaac all told us that when they were 12, a helicopter landed in their backyard on Christmas Day
Starting point is 00:29:43 and SWAT ended up busting through the back door. We, okay, we have locked in our person. I'm not convinced, but you boys are, and so I'm joining in. So Lucy's out of the running, isn't she? It was between Indy and Isaac for us. And you guys seem to agree on the text machine. Yeah, and I would say when we started, going through them.
Starting point is 00:30:08 One has just put their nose in front of the other, so it was pretty close. Meg's not happy because it's not hers. It's not who I was picking. Okay, but we've done it now. Yeah, we've done it now. We've got our $500 and we are handing it over to... Isaac. Congratulations.
Starting point is 00:30:25 Before we find out, if you have told us the truth, most people believe you were telling the truth and that it happened to you at age 12. So congratulations, bro, 500 bucks, yours. That's amazing. Good. Well done. Well done.
Starting point is 00:30:38 Nice. Good dog. Now put us out of our mystery. Okay, here we go. Isaac. Oh God. What have we done? I am the imposter.
Starting point is 00:31:02 You took so long to tell us. I was like, he's going to say the imposter. He's going to say the imposter. No. Your mum was never mistaken for a weed dealer. Of course she wasn't. Of course. So he's one of the two lies.
Starting point is 00:31:23 Okay, Isaac. Stay there. I've been given a phone number. I don't know who it is, but this is the truth teller. That's going to be Indy And that's going to be annoying because she gets nothing Indy gets nothing even though it actually happened to her People in Texas were already going rookies
Starting point is 00:31:37 I told you, I told you Okay Hello Who's this? This is Indigo Oh Producer Carl has just brought in like a blue metal It almost looks like some sort of a case
Starting point is 00:31:52 So Indy said when we spoke to her She was the one that was saying that it was like a Christmas Day surprise From the police landing the helicopter in their back here as a lovely kind of Christmas Day thing. She said I could send photos and Meg said well of course you could say that and we've just been sent photos of Indy and her friends and family
Starting point is 00:32:10 and the helicopter landing in the backyard Indy I remember you said to us oh God we really really I really tried darling guys I don't know what to tell you I know you should have believed me well I did my darling but
Starting point is 00:32:25 Meg believed you Clinton and I overruled her and to be fair Most of the listeners were fooled as well. There was a lot of people saying it was, Isaac. There you were. A little 12-year-old indie. Cute. So, well, I'm so sorry. But unfortunately, Isaac told your story better than you did.
Starting point is 00:32:43 Which is crazy because he literally, like, messed up multiple parts of the story. I know. I just, we just thought, like, it's so crazy it on Christmas Day that cops would just go around giving kids joy rides. Yeah. But maybe they are. We do have a cool police force. We do have a very cool police force.
Starting point is 00:33:02 And that's the beauty of this game. You can, as long as you can tell a really good story and make it believable, you can win 500 bucks. It's not the beauty of the game for Indy. We're sorry we let you down, Indy. I know. Oh, it's okay, guys. It was very fun anyways.
Starting point is 00:33:17 It was so fun. Thank you, Andy. We've learned to trust Meg. Yeah, everyone's going, told you, you're rookies. Hey, majority said Isaac. We went with the majority. Yeah, there was a lot of texts coming through for Isaac. David's going
Starting point is 00:33:29 and told you so Michaela's doing face palm emojis Jamie Ward say rookies Oh yeah And he looks great And he looks great in a helmet as well Like a police helmet
Starting point is 00:33:37 Like a police helmet Mate she's 12 I know No but she suits it Oh I didn't mean it Nick Nick I trust you to make it Edge breakfast with Clint Meggin Dan
Starting point is 00:33:46 All right back again next week The Imposte If you've got a great yarn that you think is worthy of $500 text the word Story to 33443 But if you think you can do what Isaac did
Starting point is 00:33:57 And tell a lie better than some people can tell the truth. Text the word lie to 33443 and our producer Carl might be able to tee you up for next week. What colour is the helicopter? Wouldn't you be in real mean about the colour of the helicopter to her, Dan?
Starting point is 00:34:11 It is dark blue. Yeah, and you said they didn't exist. No, no, I said it was dark blue. It was the other girl that was saying it was grey. So she was lying. Edge breakfast, Clint Meg and Dan. Ben some Boone. The time of my life, 25 past seven,
Starting point is 00:34:26 Clint Megan Dan on the edge. Huge. News announced overnight. Formula One has been on its mid-season break. They're back this weekend. And Isaac Hedger, who drives for Red Bull and is Max Fistappen's teammate, has injured his wrist boxing on the off-season. Oh, what? Amateur. I don't think they'd let you do stuff like that if you're Formula One-trial?
Starting point is 00:34:46 Like, no snowboarding, no boxing. No, he was punching a bag. Like a punching bag. So, just like gym stuff. Jim stuff. And he does boxing, but he was practicing and punching. it too hard and has done his wrist, which means, I mean that's sad for him. But great news because Liam Lawson, the Kiwi driver, that is, he's done so well in Formula One
Starting point is 00:35:09 over the last couple of seasons. He has been drafted in to drive for Red Bull Racing this weekend. He's done well, but not well enough for Dan to rep his merch because he's wearing Ferrari gear right now. Yeah, that is actually a bad day to be wearing Lewis Hamilton merch. But Liam Lawson is driving for the Red Bull team this weekend. And he's going to be Monday morning New Zealand time. Okay. I will lose Dan for most of the show then next week.
Starting point is 00:35:33 Yeah. I think it'll be over by then. All right. Okay. And it might be nice to have another bit of a look, a little victory lap of the time that Dan took on Liam Lawson in a Formula One race. Oh, and fumbled.
Starting point is 00:35:48 Kind of. Stras. Dan, going to give you an opportunity to beat Liam Lawson in a Formula One race. Okay. Oh, my God. Cars. You like this movie too? I do.
Starting point is 00:35:59 Okay. I have a hat here that is full of dates. Okay. You will each go one at a time and you'll be time trialled. You need to pull out a date and then tell me who won the Formula One Championship on that date. If you don't know, you can pass and grab another date. Okay. Liam, I hate to say, this is Dan's special skill.
Starting point is 00:36:17 I just do you nearly every day or no? Yeah, you can, yeah. Okay. So I just grab a date. It is a time trial. Once you can give us five correct dancers. 98. 98.
Starting point is 00:36:24 It's a tricky one. Shumaker? No, it's not, is it? No. No. Okay, I did another one. My history is so bad. Okay.
Starting point is 00:36:32 2001. Is that Schumacher? Yes. Yeah, okay. 2012. Uh, max. Yes. Two.
Starting point is 00:36:41 Two. 23 was Max. Yeah. Correct. In 2016 four. Sheemacher again. Correct. Yes.
Starting point is 00:36:48 How many is that? 90. Oh, God. That's hard. Senna? Yes. Yes. Okay.
Starting point is 00:36:54 There's no way I'm going to be able to be there. 37 seconds. Is the time to beat Dan if you want to beat Liam Lawson in a Formula One race? Okay. Daniel, your time starts now. Okay. 1992, that would have been Prost? No.
Starting point is 00:37:09 Sena. No. Oh, God. Pass if you need. Pass. Okay. Nigel Mansell. 2018 would have been...
Starting point is 00:37:18 Oh, God. Vettel. No. Oh, God. Oh, God. I'm choking. It's choking. Oh, Hamilton, of course.
Starting point is 00:37:26 Of course. Okay. 2014 Lewis, Hamilton. Nice. Correct. 2013 was, that would have been Vettel. Yes, correct. That's good.
Starting point is 00:37:36 2011, Vettel. Correct. 2009. Jensen Button, correct. Oh my God, last one. Last one. 2008 would it be? Eight I've choked at the last minute.
Starting point is 00:37:50 Oh my God. You've said his name. Vettel, Budul. Vettel. No. No. No, you've said his name. It's his first one.
Starting point is 00:37:58 It's his first one. You've been blown out. It starts with Lewis and endsworth. How was it his first one? Edge breakfast with Clint Meg and Dan. Yes, that was Dan embarrassing himself in front of his idol. That's hard to listen to, man. Like, 2000, of course it was Lewis Hamilton.
Starting point is 00:38:14 To me, there was the perfect example in the dictionary under choking. Yeah, there's Dan standing next to Lewis. He has never, ever, ever, ever lost that game when I played it, just me and him. We played it all the time in the air breaks. That's why we did that. That was the biggest choke I've ever seen. crazy and it makes me think when people lose easy money. When they say, oh, I'm
Starting point is 00:38:34 so good at it and they come on. Yeah, it's the nerves. It really is. All right. A concert announced that is a special somebody who's coming back to New Zealand. They were here last year. God, they brought a vibe. And Olivia Dean as well, after
Starting point is 00:38:50 8 o'clock, if you want to get yourself in the drawer for Festi Bessie, you and 3 mates, flights and a com. That's also happening at 8 this morning. The heck of a lot going down inside the next 60 minutes. I mean, it's so much. Get your Clint McGinn down
Starting point is 00:39:04 Fax. Now, what's all this? It went down between my boys this morning. Clim was telling me, I think you're out of the room, me making a porridge or something, but he was telling me he was... Probably true. He was summoned yesterday to take a blood test, an urgent blood test. Oh, I wasn't that scary. You didn't tell me that.
Starting point is 00:39:20 Yeah, well, I wasn't too worried. And then I was like, that's probably strange. I even called the doctor and was like, is this a mistake? Did I get this out of the blue? Like, the wrong thing? Because they said, hey, Clint, so maybe they didn't get the wrong person. Clint Randall. A reminder you're due for a repeat blood test
Starting point is 00:39:39 to check your kidney function. Please attend soon. Ensure you're well hydrated, blah, blah, blah. So I was like, yeah, I should do that. And that was about a week ago. So because you're an alcoholic? No, I don't. That affects your liver.
Starting point is 00:39:52 Well, I think if the liver goes, then the kidneys are next. Yeah, and so I was like, I'll go get it sorted. And Dan goes, what if it's serious? And then he was like, you might need it. another liver, I mean another kidney. And I was like, oh, hopefully we're a match then. Absolutely not.
Starting point is 00:40:06 And I said, if I was a dead match for you, Clint, you came, come in to me, crawl him back. And he goes, I need a kidney. You're not getting one from me. I wish I was working with Grant Kittiyama. He'd give you one. He did. He gave John Alomber's one.
Starting point is 00:40:21 I know, I know. They didn't even work together. He's a better person than me. I just could never give away one of my kidneys. I couldn't do it. What about one of you or any things? But you don't need to. You just need one.
Starting point is 00:40:30 Yeah, but I do need two, just in case one of them fails. Well. And look, the only person I'd maybe consider giving it to it, even then it'd be considering it, is my son. I'm so, to put in Dan terms, because you're a car guy, you've pulled up alongside my car, I've got a flat and I'm bugged, and you've got a spare, and you're like, sorry, man, what if I get a flat on the way home? Exactly. I need four tires. Unlikely that you'll get a flat, though. I'd roll down my window and go, you should have brought a Tesla and drive it.
Starting point is 00:41:00 driven off. So it's just, I just would never have, I would never do it. So, so, okay, Clint's dying. I know, and it's horrible. You do find out that you are a match. You just keep that quiet? No, he couldn't. It would be nice if it was quiet.
Starting point is 00:41:17 So I'd still say no, even if everyone knew. I know you're a match and you know that you're a match. Yeah. And we just keep weirdly doing the show together knowing you can save my life and I'm going to die. Oh, now we're talking, no, hold on. But if there's ratings involved. Now it sort of throws a curveball in. Because every day, Clint's coming in and he goes every day.
Starting point is 00:41:34 I go, Clint, what's the update? Any match on another donor that isn't Dan that will give you a kidney? And then my kids start DMing Dan with videos going, Dad's still dying, Dan. Okay, how about this? How about this? Oh, Jack says shame. Dan, if you need one, I'm not giving you mine now.
Starting point is 00:41:51 I don't want your one, Jack. It's probably mingin. So I will say that. Don't say that about his kidneys. Jack Morgan has great kidneys, I think. I'm sure. I'm sure it's a lovely kidney. Okay, I'll lend it to you.
Starting point is 00:42:04 How about that? Well, that doesn't make any sense. I'll give it to you, but if my other one starts failing. Not a library book, Dan. It's not a library book. Once it's gone, it's gone, buddy. You could be on death's door, but the only thing keeping you alive is my kidney. I want it back.
Starting point is 00:42:19 No, then someone else, maybe Jack, you know, maybe Jack hits you up and he gives you one of his. You're not getting it. Jack's definitely not getting it. Has anyone ever given a kidney or needed a kidney before? What's that process? It's really intriguing. We love some more information. It's like that time that Francesca Razor gave
Starting point is 00:42:36 Celina Gomez hers and then she'd get invited to the wedding. I would expect to be invited to every one of your weddings after. Clint. True, well, I do hope that the... Every holiday you're going. Every family holiday and cruise you're there. Now we're talking. Paid for holidays.
Starting point is 00:42:52 You're a part of the family. Breakfast hits harder. All right, we've got a fun announce. Who's coming back to New Zealand. in Al-Summer in Feb. Really exciting. So I'll tell you about that one. Coming up. And then, of course, at 8 o'clock, Olivia Dean. She's going to be here in, what is that,
Starting point is 00:43:09 a couple of months. And so if you and three mates want to go, flights and a comm, listen out for that cuticle just after 8 o'clock. Honestly, I'll get my left kidney to go to that show. Get your Clint McGinn, Dan Fix. Talking about consumer NZ yesterday and how not a lot of people know this, but you don't need necessarily to buy the extended warranty
Starting point is 00:43:28 on a lot of appliances because they should be lasting a certain amount of time. For instance, desktop computers, they should last according to consumer five years. Laptops five years, microwaves, eight years. If they break before that time, you have grounds to take them back to the shop you brought it from and them to send away and fix it free of charge.
Starting point is 00:43:47 Yeah, with receipt. Yeah. Fridges 11 years, television's eight years, dishwashers, 10 years. I know he's thinking, who keeps their receipt, though, for eight years. Best thing I started doing years ago was just taking a photo of any receipt on a big piece, purchase and then just add it to an album
Starting point is 00:44:00 in your phone under warranties. Then you just forget about it. We'll get it email to you. A lot of shops do that now as well. You just store it. Okay, well, I have a faulty microwave which I'm very excited to hopefully take it. But the problem is they're like you have to bring it into store and that pisses me off. To me, it should be as easy as possible for the person that's got the faulty thing. You go, here's a video of it not working.
Starting point is 00:44:21 Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, it is tricky if you've got a fridge. You know, because they're supposed to last apparently according to consumer 11 years. Now I'm Meg's going, maybe I will take my microwave back if they're meant to last eight years, because it's not that old. But Meg finds she has to quite often beat it. Yeah, well, I got my husband to record something. I haven't listened to us a little bit nervous.
Starting point is 00:44:44 I've got my husband to record using the microwave this morning. That's my daughter in the background. Shosh. Oh, no. Oh. Oh. Oh, no, no, shit. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:44:58 There we go. He's banged it too hard. That's like, shit. That is now not working at all. Oh, you'll definitely be taking that back then. How old is it? Because it says, according to the consumer, eight years they should last?
Starting point is 00:45:10 It's 10 months old. Yeah, so you can take it back to the shop. It should still be under warranty then. Really? Ten months. It should have a year warranty. Oh, yeah. It's very for sure.
Starting point is 00:45:18 It might be a good opportunity for us to bring back. What's the workaround that you've found so that you don't have to replace it? Like Meg just bangs his. Some of the, our favorite ones we've had in the past. The partner dropped his phone at work in the entire thing. screen shattered so he plugs the phone into the TV and plugs like a mouth or something into the TV so he can use his phone with the mouse and the TV. Our oven's not level and my partner's mum came over and went to open up the oven the other night
Starting point is 00:45:44 and the drawer came out by itself and she goes, oh, you've got a flash oven. Have a tilt garage door at home that's a bit jammed. The handle's down below my knees. So what I have to do is use both hands to grab the handle. Then I have to use my forehead to push the top to open it. I've been doing it for seven years. Yes. Yeah, so I have to bag my microwave to get it to work or it's just not working now anymore.
Starting point is 00:46:05 What do you have to do? What's hanging on by a thread? Yeah, and rather than getting it replaced, you just found a work around to get it to kind of still do what it's supposed to. Yeah, you're one of those people that has like a car that the driver's door doesn't open, so you have to get it through the passengers every time. I get that fixed day one. Listen to your favorite breakfast show whenever you like.
Starting point is 00:46:25 Clint McGahn. The edge. People are living life. On hard mode. On heart, 100%. We want to know what is the workaround you've found so that you don't have to replace the thing that's clearly broken. It's not operating like it should be, but you're like,
Starting point is 00:46:38 that'll do for now. And then before you know it, it's years down the track, and you're still doing it. Like somebody said their indicators haven't worked in ages. What do they do? That's illegal. So they use their hazard lights, but they said only the left one works. So if they're turning a corner, they put their hazards on to turn left, but they don't indicate to turn right.
Starting point is 00:46:59 Oh, shocking. God, that's terrible. I thought you were going to say they only ever turn left. So they just go the long way everywhere they go. Every time, they're just going round and loops. Yeah, terrible for petrol. Let's go to Sarah. Oh, it handed the edge and then read some more text.
Starting point is 00:47:11 Hi, Sarah. Hi. Hi, what's hanging on by a thread? My dad's old car, it's on like 500,000 K, but he would, the fuel lever wouldn't, like, release the fuel cap, so he'd have to wedge it up with, like, a magnum ice cream stick. It could be able to be able to go around and open it. So he had to buy a magnum every time he was filling up with gas.
Starting point is 00:47:33 Got to get an ice cream and eat it. That's a dad hack if I've ever seen one. Still working? It can't get a warrant anymore. The other thing he would do is hold it up and he'd stretch around and hold it. He looked like, oh, it was so funny to watch. Oh, Blesa, I loved it. You can't get a warrant anymore, poor car.
Starting point is 00:47:52 Chris, good morning. What's hanging on by a thread? Morning. It's my driver's side back seat. window doesn't go up from the driver's door. Okay. So I have to contort my arm, squeeze it between the seat, and put it up while I'm driving.
Starting point is 00:48:09 Then why do you put it down? I would just net that window would never go down. Oh, you forget. Yeah. That's the thing. You have to lock this, that button that locks through the windows. I think you have to do that. It's so funny that you forget.
Starting point is 00:48:19 Every time you're like, damn it, that's right. One of the funniest ones is our old boss, Casey, didn't he? He had something where his doors wouldn't open unless the car was rolling. So he'd get in, have to start the car. and then he'd have to pick the kids up on the hop like they were James Bond or something He'd have to jump in. He'd have to back out of the driveway, go down the road,
Starting point is 00:48:35 then drive back up the road really slowly and the kids would have to be ready to jump into the car while it was moving past. One time I think his mother-in-law had to get in there too. It was just nightmare. Ready, mum? Karina, what's hanging on by a thread? Well, the broom has been hanging on by a thread
Starting point is 00:48:50 for about five years. Get a new one. Yeah. Broom, come on. Well, yeah, and it's broken a few times again, but I just keep taping the broom head back to the broom pole and it works. But what's the broom? Like 20 bucks?
Starting point is 00:49:03 Just go and get a new one from Bunnings. Exactly. I know. I know. Tatech's working. Tate's doing the job. What about this one? My key fob to my car is really temperamental. I have to be the exact correct distance from my car for it to unlock. If I'm too far, it doesn't work.
Starting point is 00:49:19 And if I'm too close, it doesn't work. So annoying. So annoying. Someone else has got their doorknob to their lounge is broken. So they have to go outside onto the lounge is broken. onto the deck and in the other door to get into their lounge. Doing too much work. Who's doing that? Doing life on hard, man.
Starting point is 00:49:37 Honestly, all right, let's get some of these things fixed with some easy cash. Clint McGinn, Dan. Edge breakfast. The edge. Your favourite game on the edge just hits. Easy money. One past eight on your Thursday. Right,
Starting point is 00:49:50 thousand bucks on the line. If you can give us 10 answers starting with the letter you in 30 seconds, we'll give you the cash. You can pass, but you can't give the same. answer twice. All right, Sam is off skiing with the family right now needs the money. Sam, your letter is you. You ready to play?
Starting point is 00:50:07 Yeah, it's good to go. Let's do this. All right, give me a brand. Pass. A country. Uruguay. An education institution. University.
Starting point is 00:50:23 A mode of transport. Unicycle. Something you wear. Uniform. A sport. Pass. Something in space. Oh, underwater, underwater hockey.
Starting point is 00:50:39 Cool. Something in space. Time, Sam. He said, wow, for a hard round. That was a really tricky one, you. We did it during the news there. I did it. You did way better than me.
Starting point is 00:50:52 So, well done. A brand could have been Uber, U.S. Under Armour maybe. And something in space was Uranus or a UFO. Man, they were tough. Dan had Ubisoft. Yeah, it was tough. Yeah, did I? Yeah, Ubisoft.
Starting point is 00:51:07 Classic. Thank you, Matt. I was going to do something with your anus, but it's not out of context. Oh, no, you will not know without my permission, Daniel, were we? Olivia Dean, do you want you and three mates to go to Olivia Dean with accommodation tickets, flights if you need to get there? We have your charts coming up in the next three minutes on The Edge. Thank you, Meg. Take the Edge off your day with Clint Meg and Dan.
Starting point is 00:51:35 The Edge. Besty. Olivia Dean edition. She's actually so gorgeous. I actually can't believe it. The lines are open now. For a couple minutes. Call 0800 The Edge to get you and three of your besties on our standby list to see Olivia Dean live in Auckland.
Starting point is 00:51:54 Yeah, once you hear a cue to call, you have a couple of minutes to call. Oh, 800 the Edge. We're going to get as many people in the drill as possible, right? Okay. Now, Meg, before we go, quick. Okay, just rattle through people. Okay, well, here we go. Samantha, you're in the drawer.
Starting point is 00:52:09 Congratulations. Thanks. How often do we get to talk to Samantha Hines? Okay, Russell, you're in the drawer. Congratulations. Oh, you legend. Thank you. He's gone.
Starting point is 00:52:20 Okay, he's, okay. Who else is next? Is it still Russell? Marnie, good morning. Marno. Marnie, okay. Marnay. Okay, Marnay.
Starting point is 00:52:29 Sorry, you're in the drawer. Next. You and three mates, congratulations. Let's hope you get the call back in September. I don't even know. know your name. What's your name? Hi, this is Taylor. We've heard enough. Taylor, you're in the drawer. Stay there.
Starting point is 00:52:42 I've got to get more teetis. Okay, what about you? Jackie, Jackie, you're in the drawer as well. Good morning. Awesome, thank you. Go away. You're so well. Okay. I mean, damn, we've got to, okay. Meg, quickly, quickly, quickly. Yeah, where's the hype? We're missing out on the hype, I think. Amelia, good morning. Amelia's got to say something. Otherwise, you're not in the drawer.
Starting point is 00:53:03 Amelia Roche? Oh, Amelia, sorry. You're out. Oh, no. Evie, good morning. You're in the drawer. Good morning, thank you so much. She's out. You're welcome. How much time do we have left on the clock?
Starting point is 00:53:14 30 seconds. More, quickly, more! 30 seconds. Well, the problem is they're all blocking up the line. Oh, no. We've run out of lines because they're all sitting there on old to get their details to produce a car. Hang up on them and call them back.
Starting point is 00:53:29 Okay, so I think we've got six in there. Yeah, yeah. Samantha, Manet, Jackie, Amelia, Evie. And one last one. Let's go B from Christchurch as well. Congrats B, you snuck in the drawer. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You're so very welcome.
Starting point is 00:53:45 Yeah, how good. She's now being moved to Western Springs, Olivia Dean. So those that thought they'd missed out months and months ago, can now get there. And we're going to try and get you and three mates, flights and accommodation to Auckland if you're not in the city. And just, hey, what a time. You and four mates when you thought you missed out,
Starting point is 00:54:02 and then you end up going for free. By the way, if you do want to buy tickets, pre-sales were done yesterday. Man, they got slammed. Yeah, sold out very quickly with a pre-style allocation, but General Sal, 12 p.m today, I believe. Medea, put it. Send an alarm, do what you got to do?
Starting point is 00:54:17 God, they got to go quick, aren't they? Yeah, like that. Boom, gone. All right, coming up next, books by boomers. Do you need your man to stop looking at other women? Basically, this is what you can do to make him loyal to you, baby, according to... Is this from your experience, me?
Starting point is 00:54:34 No, no, this is from Mirabar Morgan from the 1950s. I wonder how much times have changed in the last 75 years? I would say hopefully a lot. I don't think you want your man looking at other women too much. Yeah, that rules the same. Clint McGinn, Dan. It's Breakfast. The Edge.
Starting point is 00:54:52 Books by boomers. Now, let me pre-warn you, this is advice. Straight out of a bit from Mirabal Morgan from the 1950s called The Total Woman, which is about being the best version of the wife that you could be for your husband. She can't still be alive, eh? I think she is. Is she? She'd have to be pretty old.
Starting point is 00:55:10 Wow. She needs to give advice about staying alive. Yeah, true, true. But no, this is all about how to make your man happy. I think the BGs did that already. Yeah, yeah, that was a good song, actually. Okay, so you may remember where we last left off that she said to wear a different sexy outfit when opening the door for your man every single day.
Starting point is 00:55:30 Do you remember that? Yeah. She has a big costume box. When can you start repeating outfits? She doesn't go into it. But I don't think it. It's very often. It's meant to be fresh every day.
Starting point is 00:55:40 But she wasn't meaning outfits as in like a different skirt. She was meaning like dress up, right? Yeah, dress up. Like you could dress up as a witch one day and then a Frankenstein the next. Now you have like 20 outfits so you're repeating them once every three weeks. Now here's a word of warning from Maribel. First of all, do not use the costumes as a gimmick to manipulate your husband. He will sense if you're not sincerely trying to please them out of love.
Starting point is 00:56:03 You must make sure your attitude matches your costume. Jesus. So she had a client, she says, we're calling her class assignment to dress up for her man. Anita packed a new sexy outfit and determined to turn a two-day trip with her husband into a bit of a mini honeymoon. Lucky guy. On route, however, travel plans went awry, and Anita began to nag Bob, her husband,
Starting point is 00:56:27 over flight reservation, accidents and other assorted trivia. No one likes a naggy wife. By the time it was evening, Bob was worn. down from her continued harassment. Back at the hotel, Anita took the time to prepare for her late night show for her husband. She entered the bedroom in what she called the sexiest outfit she's ever worn in her life.
Starting point is 00:56:49 My goodness me. Bob took one look at her, rolled over and went to sleep. Because she was being naggy. Ding, ding, ding, ding. Points for Dan. Do girls don't like it when we do that, did it? Anita stayed up all night and then spoke to him the next morning with her disappointment, who said to her,
Starting point is 00:57:05 I was mad at you for all the complaining that you'd done at me. It didn't turn me on because I knew it was meant to turn me on. And she said, well, what does turn you on? Bob. You sound like Jennifer Coolidge. And Bob said, sternly back, kindness, Anita. Yeah, kindness is hot. And a hot costume.
Starting point is 00:57:24 A sexy outfit is only half the assignment. Your attitude must be matched to your costume. And then Mirabal goes back to herself and says, Recently, I said to my husband, I wish I could be gorgeous and ravishing in the mornings when you leave. But between breakfast and getting the girls off to school, I just can't. And he said, that's okay, as long as you're gorgeous when I come home. Oh my God. Now remember, when his need for an attractive and available and pleasant wife is met,
Starting point is 00:57:53 then he might begin to meet your needs, ladies. Wow. Let Brooks. It's said by boomers. So there is hope. Take that with a grain of salt. Remember, it was written 70 odd years ago. So what worked back there might not work now.
Starting point is 00:58:06 This is the disclaimer that we give. I think I took from that. No one likes nagging. Poor Bob. All right. We're going to try to take a thousand bucks out of the boss's pocket after we were talking about things we could take to an island. And we realized we didn't bring a lighter. And I said, no dramas.
Starting point is 00:58:22 I can make fire with sticks. And our boss said, no, you can't. I bet you a thousand dollars you can't. So here we are. Here we are. That is why I'm dressed as a cave. Man behind the scenes. What?
Starting point is 00:58:33 Yeah. Oh, is that why? Oh, I wondered why that was happening. Yeah. And why Dan has written a bunch of supportive parody songs. Is that also why you brought on all that bamboo? Because that was weird. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:44 What's that what that's for? I don't have a pet panda. Take the edge off your day with Clint Meg and Dan. Hedge. A thousand bucks on the line of the boss's money that we're looking forward to giving away. You look so stupid. Yeah. I feel stupid.
Starting point is 00:59:02 Oh, well, good. It matches. Yeah, I have a caveman outfit on that Meg went and slitted up and cut pieces out of to make it a little more provocative than it already was. Can I also add that was under Dan's instruction? Well, I asked for a loincloth. That's show, I want a more body. Okay, well, I'm going to try to make fire with bamboo. I've been practicing at least a few hours a day over the last couple of days. Can get a lot of smoke.
Starting point is 00:59:28 Clem. Getting fire has proved to be rather difficult. I know you don't need any more encouragement because you're the world's most stubborn man but can you try really hard because I'd love to do this and prove our boss jack wrong. If I don't do it by 10 o'clock
Starting point is 00:59:41 I will be a shell of a man. I promise you'll go into my hands blister. He'll go into deep depression. He'll be the most depressed caveman you've ever seen. Let's do this. I've tried to get the vibes up with some songs, okay? I stayed till 3pm yesterday
Starting point is 00:59:59 recording a whole load of different. different songs. Different themes of fire. Clinton's not the fire. There was lots of rubbing, but nothing burning. So that's an option if you don't get fire. It's like a 10 a.m. option. It's an uplift in one.
Starting point is 01:00:15 Okay. So that's another option if you doesn't get it. Yeah, the stick's not on fire. Bamboo. Bamboo, bamboo, bam's not on fire. There's a lot for if we don't get it. Yeah, I think I did another version of that one, which is a more a positive one.
Starting point is 01:00:37 He didn't start the fire Send the mother Home Send the mother Oh That was negative as well Sorry about that clip Yeah
Starting point is 01:00:47 I've got a couple others Do they get more positive? Possibly Nobody called 9-1-1 That is all My favourite actually Yeah That's still the negative one
Starting point is 01:01:00 Yeah so I think the chances Of you making fire is very low Okay I got one more Okay come on come on That's the one we play If we see a flame Yeah
Starting point is 01:01:19 Okay Are you going out there now, Clint or next? Yeah, I think we're going to hit out there now. We've got a bit of a broadcast set up outside so you guys can stay with me the whole time. Also, it's kind of freezing, so a fire would be great. Yeah, I know. This Moineslock isn't overly warm.
Starting point is 01:01:37 Put some undies on underneath the bed. That's where you're going to commando, man. Okay, let's see if we can get a thousand bucks out of the boss's pocket and start fire next with sticks. Job sometimes. Oh, 800. The Edge for either tributes of support or belittleman. Yes, you can choose the different one you wouldn't do, really?
Starting point is 01:01:57 Give you a team Clint or team boss on this one. See itch. Get your Clint Megan Dan Fax. The Edge. We are reporting live from outside of the building. Soon we're going to go live. Are we live yet? Are we live?
Starting point is 01:02:09 No, we're going to go live very soon on socials. Clint is dressed up as a caveman because he's about to make fire. And I hope he does it soon, Dan, because I am freezing. It is bloody cold out here. Clint, are you ready to get started? Yeah, I'm very ready. You're cold. You're in a jumper and you're wearing a jacket and then you've got me a loincloth.
Starting point is 01:02:27 It's already that whiny, but then you took to it with scissors. We didn't think it through because you're going to be doing a lot of kneeling down and crouching, and a lot of the live stream is going to be Clint's crutch this morning. So if that's a reason to join, join up now. We've got a fire alarm set up. If I can see the scene for you, we've got a little mini tent. We've got like Carl's come up and put some plants until it looks like a jungle. I think you've got everything you need.
Starting point is 01:02:51 Boss Jack, where are you? Boss Jack, what do you think of this set up? Do you feel like it's fear? I've just come to move the rubbish out, hence the noise in the background. But yeah, I think it's fair. I think, yeah, no issues here. We've got fire extinguisher, a fire air blanket and a bucket of water for it to, so we don't burn the building down.
Starting point is 01:03:10 Good, brilliant. Safety first. Also, have you got, I know that we spoke about it really, really briefly. Did you bring your gloves? There's a bit of chat about the gloves. You know what? People will give me stick about the gloves. and so I don't think I need the gloves
Starting point is 01:03:21 because I think it makes me appear less caveman, less manly. Because you're cold? We had to do a health and safety form. We actually require you to wear the gloves. Have you got the gloves? Nah. Well, the thing is, there's going to be a lot of rubbing all morning
Starting point is 01:03:35 and need some sort of protection. Health and safety, I'm just rubbing wood, mate. No one needs guys for that nightly. He's been doing that for years. Don't worry about it. Okay, let's start because we've been talking about this for a week. Can you just leave me to it and let me get on the zone now? Go on.
Starting point is 01:03:49 All right, so are we alive on where, Edge, the Edge Instagram. Good Instagram page, you can see us live. If you want to see this happening, Clint is beginning to make fire. Clint, have you begun? Just start. He's got two bits of bamboo. If it sounds like a shambles, it's because it is. This is as much of a shambles as I thought it would be.
Starting point is 01:04:11 So let me pay the picture. If you're not joining on the Edge Instagram, Clint is now kneeling down. We can see up his pants already. Yeah, I've got a great view. He is starting to whittle away at a piece of bamboo. Get your Clint McGinn-Dan-Dan fax. Clint McGinn-Dan, we are outside on location at the moment with a tent,
Starting point is 01:04:29 some fake trees, a couple of bits of bamboo, a knife, and one determined man to win you a thousand dollars. Now, Clint, talk us through what's happening. You've made a bet with our boss, Jack. If you can make fire this morning before 10 a.m., he will give you a thousand dollars to give away to a listener. Currently you're making shavings. Yeah, so remember we spoke to Ash earlier this week from NZ Survival,
Starting point is 01:04:49 dot com, subash. And he said to me, make sure you get more bamboo shaving. So I'm using a knife at 90 degrees to shave off some shavings that are going to be the thing that hopefully I get a cold going and catch fire first.
Starting point is 01:05:05 Now I think you've shaved that one to oblivion. You need to get a new stick, Clint. It's gone too smooth. There we go. There you go. Now you're working. He's got about, I would say, a handful of shavings of flint so far. You can see us live on the Edge NZ on Instagram. And Then Clint's going to, what did your technique to make fire, Clint?
Starting point is 01:05:22 I'm just going to rub it as hard as I can for as long as I can. Sorry, again, what's the technique for fire? So I'm going to start slow, and then the key is to get the right amount of pressure. And then as it starts to smoke, you just go faster and faster and faster. And it normally says about three minutes. Clint, we've been out here for a good 10 minutes already. I've seen not one iota of even smoke. You need to hurry up.
Starting point is 01:05:47 What do you mean he needs that? He's got two hours. hours. Oh God, do we doing this for two hours? I'm already, genuinely, I am already bored. I'm struggling to talk about what we're doing. You would be a nightmare on a remote island, mate. He would be. He would be so bored. He'd be angry. Go for a swim.
Starting point is 01:06:02 Calm down. And when you come back, mate, I'll have a fire to cook the fish. Go catch a fish. Get a coconut. I think we're going to have to have like raw fish. So I'll just go and get some sushi. I'll do that. Fish crudeo. That'd be lovely. The prep is important, me, because if I don't have enough of this, these shavings, and then it doesn't catch, then I've got to
Starting point is 01:06:19 start right from the get-going game. I would have thought you all got to the shavings pre doing this. Well, I'm not allowed to. I was going to, and I thought I'd get in trouble for showing up with something I'd prepared earlier. Listen to your favourite breakfast show whenever you like. Clint Megan Dan. The edge.
Starting point is 01:06:33 We might be about to have fire, so I don't think we're going to, hello, you're on the edge with Megan Dan and stuff. And Clint at the moment is, honestly, I think he's made fire. I think that's fire. Dan, there is a lot of smoke coming from his legs. Okay, yeah, but it's smoke. It's not fire. I do not see a flame yet.
Starting point is 01:06:50 If you've just joined us, if Clint can make fire this morning, a thousand dollars to a listener. Oh, my gosh. Oh my gosh. Okay, I can smell smoke. No, I think I went to. Oh, we've got to know.
Starting point is 01:07:02 Fire alarm is going on. But there's still no fire. It's just a smoke alarm. Okay, smoke alarm is going on. He's blowing the embers. He's blowing the embers. Come on, Clint. Come on, Clint.
Starting point is 01:07:17 He's blow, everybody. At the moment, if you have just tuned in, Clint Randall has possibly made fire. were two pieces of bamboo. We're literally 15 minutes in. Oh my gosh, come on, Clint. It's their fire. We've got a lot of smoke.
Starting point is 01:07:28 We've got a couple of embers, but I don't know. Now, he's blowing very hard, which has been an issue his whole line. Not looking good at the moment. I would not be happy if I was Boss Jack. I wonder whether he's blowing it too hard. He's blowing out the flame. No, I think we've got it. There's a lot of smoke.
Starting point is 01:07:46 And I think Clint Randall, can I call it yet, has officially, Oh my God. There's a lot of smoke. He could be vaping. There are so many options that could be happening right now. I am seeing still little sparks, but as a spark of flame? It is not a flame, Dan. We need a flame to give away $1,000.
Starting point is 01:08:09 Have you got any thoughts at the moment? No, just let him focus, tan. Just needs to catch. If only we had some petrol right now, that would really help. I wish I'd made more of this stuff. You got lots. Has anybody got to do that? any lighter fluid.
Starting point is 01:08:23 So if I can paint a picture, he's got a little, I guess, it looks like a ball of... Handful of shavings of wood, and there's a flame within it, but it's just sparks at the stage. It hasn't ignited fully. You can hear him blowing. He's blowing very, very hard. Come on.
Starting point is 01:08:40 His bleeding, by the way, his knuckles are bleeding. He's put ludson tears into this. Oh, no! He's lost the spark. He's lost it. Oh, God, he's lost it. No! Now, Jack, you must be very nervous.
Starting point is 01:08:54 You've got to start again. You've got time. You've got time. Oh my God, we can stop doing this. This is a great result for you, Jack, because if he makes flames, you have to give away $1,000. Yeah, that went way better than I thought it was. I thought it was about to just go bang and it all light up. But yeah, you're going to have to start again, mate. Back to the start, good luck.
Starting point is 01:09:14 He said until 10 a.m. this morning, so we still have time. We still have hope, Dan. The sad thing is now we have to go through. for the painstaking process of making shavings again, which took about 45 minutes. Play some songs. All right, you're on the edge. Get your Clint McGinn, Dan Fax.
Starting point is 01:09:30 The edge. Yes, I think we've got, we're very close to the point that Clint is getting smoking toxination. Just keep breathing. We're so close. We've got embers. We've got embers. And he is blowing at the moment
Starting point is 01:09:42 to try and see if he can make those embers of flame. Yeah, if he can make fire this morning, we will win someone $1,000 on the show tomorrow. This is a seventh or eighth attempt. You have been unsuccessful. We're looking like there's fire within the little thing at bushel of dried flakes here. Clint has got a lot of... What do you have to say for yourself?
Starting point is 01:10:53 I'm a little relieved of a mask. Okay, our boss Jack promised if you made fire, there will be $1,000 up for grabs tomorrow on the show. Do you say that's fire, Jack? I reckon that might... I can feel it from here. That is a hell of a fire. Oh, my God. Well done. That is incredible.
Starting point is 01:11:10 And I rubbed it a lot of times. It just shows, just persevere. I will say this. If we're ever stuck on an island, Clint will be charged with making fire, but I will say. Sorry, Clint's freaking out of his microphone. Sorry, Clint's bring me up his nose. Clint's lost the plot, but he has made fire. So tomorrow, tomorrow, $1,000 we have to give away.
Starting point is 01:11:38 Oh, God, we actually have to put this out. Right, here we go. Here we go. Here we go. We actually do anything. Oh, Nick put out fire. What a waste. Sorry.
Starting point is 01:11:47 Okay, so it's taken us nearly two hours to make the fire. So the moral of the story is I think Clint can make fire, but you'll starve while you're waiting for it. Yeah. Oh, wow. Well done, Clint when you can do it. Thank you to everyone who gave up a good hour of their life to watch. Not a hell of a lot until right of the end.
Starting point is 01:12:03 And this just proves that Clint can do anything. Yes, yeah. He can do anything. He just made fire with two. Two sticks. Yeah, well done. Want to hear more of Clint, Megan, Dan, but completely unfiltered. Catch the Overthinkers audio and video pod every single day on the Rover app.
Starting point is 01:12:19 All wherever you get your pots. Overthinkers. Rover. Music, radio, podcasts.
