This is a podcast from Rover.
Make the edge off your mornings with Clint Meg and Dan.
Et breakfast.
Good morning. It is 2 to 6.
On your Wednesday we started early because we love you.
Good morning.
Oh yeah, we're two minutes early. Meg doesn't talk until 6.
It's in her contract.
Amy.
Well, if she knew that, she would have been making a coffee already.
Because she's thinking I made breakfast and I was like unless she can do it in two and a half minutes.
I think it'll be overtime if you see she's talk.
So they have to pay you over time.
That's all right.
Charity work.
No, no, no, no.
They pay me.
They pay me.
Yeah, you do all the charity work for the show, don't you, Dan?
What were the last charity things we do?
I played in a football fundraiser for multiple sclerosis
and contributed and sponsored myself for the event.
Let's not do this.
Come on, Dan, it's a chance for you to brag, and I know you don't like bragging.
It's a nice chance for you to brag, actually, Dan and show up.
We don't have time.
We actually have all the time.
We've got two extra minutes, don't we?
Yeah, exactly.
So, I give a lot to animals.
Which animals?
Most of the underprivileged ones
All the underprivileged
Or the ones that don't live in the zoo
And get fed three times a day?
Or are those underprivilege if they live in the zone?
No, I think genuinely
I give $15 a month to whisper.
I don't know where it goes.
I'm not sponsoring like a particular panda or anything
But I'm giving them...
What's a panda going to do with 15 bucks a month?
Buy bamboo.
Bamboo is cheap actually.
Is it?
Yeah, bamboo price is hard.
It's not bad.
It's a good market for bamboo.
So hold on.
I've said something.
You've said something.
What have you done, Me?
I've been thinking about that.
I think I'm overdue, boys.
The next person that knocks on your door asking for money, you just go, yeah.
I'd be really honest.
I don't think I've done evil for charity recently.
She's given us two minutes of her free time.
That's what she's done.
Meg needs to be like, today is your lucky day, mate.
Give me that pen.
I'm really bad.
I must have done something I've forgotten.
Surely.
The Edge is the home of Clint McGon Dan.
The Edge.
It's Clint Megan Dance.
And let's settle this.
Let's settle this right now.
This is a chat around emojis because there is this real stigma around emojis and there's cool ones and uncool ones.
It's like it's own little language now, Dan.
Which I hate.
I feel like if you want to send a laughing face emoji with a thumbs up, you do it.
But there's this judgmental thing now, whereas if you're using an old uncool emoji, you're old and uncool.
I'm sick of it.
I really don't mind being old and uncool.
I am a millennial, like proudly.
I don't understand why that's something.
embarrassing.
We don't need to try and learn the Gen Z
Slings. It's not our generation.
Yeah, exactly. I don't remember
being that obsessed with
the generation
above us. I wasn't obsessed
with Gen X and what they were doing
when I was younger. Do you know what I mean?
Why do they care what we do?
I genuinely believe
and you're going to say I'm biased, but I think the
millennial is the coolest generation.
Oh, you would say that though. You're millennial.
But we got to experience life before
like Ed's
crazy in social media, but now we're also
a part of it, so we're getting a little bit of everything.
We're not detached like boomers,
but then we're not like Gen Zs that think that
nothing happened in the world before they were bought.
Gen X just forget, get forgotten, right?
Who even are Gen X?
They're in between millennials and boomers.
It doesn't go millennial boomers, yeah.
It doesn't feel like they have much of an identity
as a Gen X. What are they doing?
So anyway, I sent a thumbs
up the other day. And it was just a
classic, I think we'll meet there, we'll see you there at
10 a.m. I said a thumbs up.
Not even an all good, just a thumbs up.
And they came back and said, oh,
like it was kind of like a thing where I was like
kind of pass a ad. Have I been here? No,
I was just going thumbs up, brilliant. Like I were doing real life.
If Meg, you came up to me and see... Yeah, I said, hi Dan,
how do you want to meet up after the show at the backsheds?
Yeah, cool. And I'll give you a thumbs up.
Well, then you also said, yeah, cool though. So you...
Yeah, you added to it. So here we go. Dan, you want to meet me at the backsheds?
It's weird.
It's weird. It's just to the side.
Okay, Camilla's on the phone.
Oh, I went, and to the end.
Camilla, what do you think about using a thumbs-up emoji?
I think it's like the ultimate insult.
I'm trying to people around me that the thumbs-up emoji is not cool.
But ultimate insult, I could call you an annoying bee,
and you'd rather me say that than a thumbs-up.
Feels like you could be joking.
Yeah.
Yeah, no, I just still think that people, like,
there's other things that you can use.
I'll have emoji that can use
or work we can use instead of a thumbs up
thumbs up is like, eh, okay.
What if Camilla, you send me a message going,
okay, cool, because we've been talking back and forth,
I'll see you at 8 o'clock.
Oh, rendezvous with Camilla, actually.
Question mark.
And I send you a thumbs up reaction to your message,
meaning like, Roger, gotcha, like I don't love the message,
but I'm just doing a thumbs up like it.
As opposed to sending you the emoji,
you know how you can just like thumbs up the message?
Is that different?
I think so. Like most of the time, I think our group or friends of everything would like heart a message or, you know.
Yeah, like you're acknowledging it.
Yeah.
Okay, well, that's interesting.
And good to hear his perspective from you, Camilla.
So thanks for calling.
A few people on the text machine saying they don't care.
Matt's actually interesting.
He says he is a Gen X, which we're talking about before, the forgotten generation.
He said, we're the best ones to have a note because we don't care.
Oh, so you can set him a thumbs up.
He doesn't overthink it.
Yeah.
So there you go.
So I think most people don't care, but there is the ones that are very judgmental.
No, me as a Gen X is offended by the no identity comment, but she doesn't care enough.
See, she's right.
I'd be offended, but who cares?
That's you guys.
So I think the moral of the story is keep sending a thumbs up.
Who cares?
Especially if it's a Gen Xer.
What's your most used emoji, by the way?
Mine's the thumbs up, by far.
How do you know?
So you go into your emojis, just click it.
And the one that's in the top left is your most used emoji.
Top left.
Oh, you're crying and laughing now.
I'm such a millennial.
Mine's a sunglasses emoji.
And clapping.
Mine goes thumbs up, cry laugh emoji, dead face.
And then that one with the hands over the face.
Like, oh my God, I've done something cringe.
Bia from Wellington.
Morning, babe.
What's your most used emoji?
Morning.
Morning, guys.
I, at the moment it changes, it's the lady that's like doing a roly-poly or something.
I don't know.
I forgot.
Jesus.
I'm going to do the latest iPhone update.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, well, she's kind of sitting there and she's got her hands on either side of her head.
Yes.
I do this, I do random emojis, and that's like my happy-face emoji at the moment.
I like that where you've got your own emoji language.
Yeah, quickly start doing that rather conforming to everyone else.
Nice for you.
Thanks for that.
We'll do it in the rolling rolling.
Yeah, I'm going to start using that.
Coming up on the Eat Breakfast.
Scandal heat lines.
Thank you, Clint.
It's a big scandal this morning, actually.
Lots going down.
Ed Sharon has made his counter statement after MacMoor was dropped from the tour.
Tom Cruise had a truly bizarre interview,
and it is the closest race in Bird of the Year history.
Clint McGahn's scandal.
All right, boys, I want you to listen to this interview with Tom Cruise with GQ this morning,
and tell me what he means.
And there's things that I want others artists to know.
They see it in the same way that I want them to know.
When people see a movie, you want it to look easy.
I don't sit here.
And understanding the joy of that it,
It's okay if it hurts, that it's hard, that it can be confusing and you don't know.
I would have lost that part of you.
Absolutely no idea.
I think he's trying to say that movies should look effortless, even though they are difficult to make.
Ironically, he's making it so hard to understand.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But I feel like nobody sat there and go, like, any actor wouldn't sit there and go, this is easy.
You know, I don't think it's maybe the hardest job, but Tom Cruise does lots of stunts.
So I imagine that's hard.
You were with him a few years ago where he says he watches two to three movies a day.
Really?
Yeah.
He was constantly watching movies.
Ed Sharon has released the statement explaining his side of the story and said it was
promoter's decision not his to drop Mack Lamour from his shows after his free Palestine speech.
Text statement to read the whole thing because I can't read it out to you five, six pages long.
And with days to go, it's the closest race with the bird of the year that they've ever seen.
The underdog, Black Robin, going up against the two-time champion, Kakapo.
you can vote until Sunday at 5pm
text the word bird to 3343 and I've set up the link
I'm team Kedaroo but I mean
it doesn't look like they're in the top three this year
I love the Black Robin, it's gorge
and it's in serious trouble actually both the
Black Robin and the Kakapo are unfortunately
Not if it wins Bird of the Year it's not
Just hits in Auckland
The Edge
The Edge Clint Meg and Dan
Right for the brand
The Kankaport is the flightless parrot right
Ah you're the green one
I think it's flightless
That's so stink
Imagine being the bird, the one bird that has wings and everyone goes,
what are you doing with those, mate?
I know, yeah, well the wings obviously aren't quite good.
If it's flightless.
Wow, they are flightless. I didn't know that.
Being a flightless bird is like being a dolphin that can't swim.
Oh, they just hopped at heck.
They're just hopped about.
It's because we obviously were a non-creditor country.
They didn't need to fly.
They need to make the key of flightless, that pesky little thing that rips cars apart up the mountains.
Get your Clint McGinn to and Dan Fex.
The edge.
Lotto has changed its odds.
and it'll now be harder to win Lotto.
I had a dream about it last night.
Did you?
This is so bizarre.
I had a dream and it was the new lotto and it was us three together.
This is so bizarre.
Syndicate.
And we're sitting next to each other and I looked at this ticket and I was like,
oh God, why I have to colour match?
It made it so difficult.
I had to like have a matching colour and the ball had to be matching in colour as well as the number
and it was like so many more steps and herbs and I was like,
I can't do it.
It's so difficult.
So why they make it harder?
Well, they've made it.
So now it used to be 10 balls.
Now it's gone to 14 balls in Powerball.
Because Lotto needed to be harder, if anything, didn't it?
Well, it was it a 1 in 30-something million.
Now it's a 1 in 50-something million.
Yeah, so they've done it to allow for larger jackpots
and an extra prize-winning tear.
So I think the plan is for more winners,
but just harder to win the first division.
So like, as you said, Clint,
it used to be, with the old system, with the 10 balls,
one in 38 million chance of winning first division lotto.
Tricky.
Now it's gone down to a one in 53.7 million chance.
Almost twice as hard.
It's so, it'd be amazing to be that man.
I think he was in the Hawks Bay who won on Father's Day.
He won 20 mil, 28 mil, something like that.
I read the story about him that he was over at a family member's house,
helping them out with something.
And then somebody else came and they said,
oh, did anybody buy a ticket from so-and-so?
so shocked. And he thought, oh, that's nice.
Somebody won. Even though he knew he'd bought
a ticket, he didn't even think it was him.
And then they started reading out the numbers and then
screams. I'm a firm believer in, if you're going to win, you're going to win.
What does that mean? Like, say,
if you buy a lot of ticket, it's written in the stars.
You know, you're going to win if you're going to win.
If you're not going to win, it's written in the stars as well.
We're going to do a bit more of an more in-depth chat about this
later on in the show. But I've just pulled
together some stats of things that are more
likely to happen to you now
than winning lotto now are the new odds.
So this will actually get everyone to start
thinking like why the hell would I ever buy them?
I would still buy one. But then people
but that man did it?
True. And like they have to say like someone's got to win.
And also a lot of profits exceed like
300 million each year. So
all the profits go back into the community. So even though
arguably yes it's gambling, people spending their money,
if all the profits are going back into great
things in the community then finally people spend
And I think our odds are considerably higher than other places around the world.
Like American lotteries and stuff are even harder to win.
So Meg, you are far more likely.
Maybe not you, but Clint especially, maybe even me, to become an all black than winning lotto.
Yeah, and I'm very far from that.
I mean, Meg, you could become a black tree.
Yeah.
Okay, yeah, that makes sense.
Another stat you are...
I'm more a league guy, so.
That wouldn't happen.
Thousands of times more likely to become a New Zealand Olympian and go to the Olympics.
Yeah, fair.
At her age now?
That doesn't shock me.
When she was born.
Yeah.
And you are even more, more likely in New Zealand or worldwide, to be struck by lightning, not once, but twice in your lifetime than winning Lotto.
In fact, it is more likely for you to be struck by lightning next year, specifically, than winning
First Division Lotto in New Zealand now.
Sometimes they don't like buying Lando tickets because I think I'm lucky enough.
And I think somebody can't have a lot.
I've taken my share.
But even when you look at those stats, people still get struck by light.
What about those people you read online and it's like they've won First Division twice?
And you go, why did you keep buying a ticket?
The chance of you winning was so astronomically low.
And then you've gone and bought tickets again to try and do it twice.
And then it's happened for them.
But some people win First Division Lotto.
You hear about it all the time.
So someone has to win it.
So that's why I think I'd buy a ticket still.
There is another stat which blew my mind and actually made me second-guess my life completely,
which we'll talk about after seven.
Clint McGinn, Dan.
Edge Breakfast.
The Edge.
What's the new thing where you go, you see someone doing something?
And you go, oh, they're rich.
Like, for me, when I was a kid, it was when they were, like, you'd go over to a friend's house
and they'd have Vionetta for dinner.
Yeah.
And you'd be like, oh, my God, that things are going well.
The Joneses.
Or there was a kid, Ralph, and he always used to have KFC at school for lunch.
And I was like, oh, like cold KFC.
Yeah, and sometimes his dad had drop it off fresh.
Wow.
But then I realised his parents split up, and I think his dad was trying to buy them.
Oh, yeah.
I always thought people that just had two-story houses.
If you had a second story to your house, I was like, damn, you got double house.
I think you've got double house.
I think if you've got one footprint house that's big with no stairs, that's rich.
Oh, you reckon?
That's when you're having to build up.
That's when you've got no land.
True, true.
I didn't know that as a kid.
Ironically, yeah, as a kid, you don't realize that.
Yeah, I just thought double story men.
I do love that thing on social media
where it's like I won't tell people I'm rich
but there will be signs.
What are those signs for you?
And for me, I met someone the other day
that is 100%
I'm like, you must be doing well
because they said that they are waiting
for tomorrow, New Zealand time,
to pre-order the iPhone duo.
Which is a brand new one that opens like a book.
Which is $4,200.
We've talked about it quite a lot on the show.
But I was like, I don't think I'd know anybody
that's got the money to spend $4,200 on a phone.
I think I see anybody with a Tesla
and I'm not just saying that because you have two Clint
But I truly think if I see somebody having a Tesla
You must be alright
But they have like those plans where you can get interest-free finance
So I reckon you'll find a lot of people that are driving around
And other fancy cars have just got them on tick
Okay
Paying them off
Yeah
You've been talking to my wife
I know
So you could go and get a Tesla tomorrow if you wanted me
Most people could
Most people can get a Tesla
And you'd never look back babe
You wouldn't eat one of those heated steering wheel things.
My husband would love a Tesla, but I love this text from Cala.
This is very, I think, very Auckland focus.
She said my weekly food shop would be at Farrow, which is, like, a banana's about four bucks.
So it's like the most amazing supermarket could ever go into.
It's beautiful, and like it's very small and boutique, but it's very expensive.
It's not an everyday shop.
They don't do budget brands.
No.
And everybody else shopping there are good as well, aren't they?
Everybody's, you know, like their shit don't stink in that.
in that supermarket.
I much prefer pack and save.
That's my go-to.
What about the people that if you go out for like drinks or dinner or lunch or whatever,
and then when you go to pay, they've already snuck off and sorted it out?
Yes.
Yes.
Oh my God, my husband did that once I was livid at him.
Absolutely livid.
I was like, they are very much so doing better than us.
Don't go and pay for dinner.
What the hell were you thinking?
He goes, I don't know.
I panicked.
You know, I used to have no a kid at school.
I went over to his house once.
It was always school with me, because we just used to rent houses when I was a kid.
I had a single mom.
And whenever I go to like a rich kid's house, I'd be like, this is how the other half lived.
I remember there was one kid.
He had intercoms in his house.
Yeah, that's amazing.
And so he could like buzz his mom going, Mom, dinner.
Clint's sit out of this one.
Yeah.
And then his brother would have an intercom in his room.
They could like intercom to each other's rooms.
You didn't know me growing up.
Yeah, I know you had a laundry shoot and a mezzanine and probably intercoms.
Piss off.
Yeah, the intercoms didn't last long after we moved in.
No.
Intercoms are crazy
Hey you had two PlayStation 5s growing up
No I did it
He had a PlayStation 5
He had a PlayStation because his brother
And him used to fight
They got another one
Yeah but that was out of necessity
He chased me around the house
With a knife once
That was because you kept selling his undies
Wasn't it
He was stealing mine
I mean there's not to unpack there
Mum's right
I'm just gonna have to take out an extra loan
Actually kids they had their own undies
That must be nice
Alright what do we ask again
How do you know
Oh is it done
Oh, have you want to, do you want to extend it?
Because you've got Emmys highlight, yes.
Oh, you know my Emmys?
I don't know.
Do you know what you're doing today, Me?
Listen live weekdays from Sex on Rover and catch up wherever.
This is Clint McGinn, Dan.
The Edge.
Not Megan Dan.
Meg's got your Emmy highlights that went down yesterday.
I do.
I've got the bits that maybe I think everybody's going to be talking about.
Michael J. Fox, darling.
Seeing him up there.
He won the Humanitarian Award.
There wasn't a dry eye in the house when he did his speech with a camera
cutting to a cry in Harrison Ford.
Initially, I kept my Parkinson's diagnosis
a secret. I worried that it would
arrest my work and my relationships with audiences, but they laughed
if they knew I was sick.
And then I was stunned by the sport of you.
I'm solifting and just
made me feel like I keep doing this.
I hadn't lost what I do.
And they couldn't take it away from me.
And it's because you definitely appreciate it.
Hard to hear, but basically just saying
that he was worried about
talking about his Parkinson's diagnosis
but because the love he felt he didn't.
Yeah, he's done a few shows
where he, in the early stages of his Parkinson's
where he did hide it.
I think he was in Spin City after Charlie Sheen left that
and he hit it so well.
Because you don't want the work to dry out
when they feel like you might not be able to do the job, right?
Yeah, for sure.
And Catherine O'Hara, who passed away earlier in the year,
had a tribute moment to her with her on-screen children
Kevin from Home Alone, Alexis and David from Schitts Creek,
or McCulley, Corkin, Dan and Annie.
They stood up there together with McCauley's saying a speech.
There are all kinds of words I could use to describe, Catherine.
The word that I think of is Mama.
She was my mom.
She was our Mama.
And by extension, she's all of her Mama.
By the way, call your mother tonight.
That's nice.
I find the word Mama.
I think it's more American than to us.
Yeah, like Mom's nice and sweet and wholesome.
Mama.
I don't know.
Taylor, Swindley.
made an appearance in a fake law and order skit,
which I thought was really great watch and well done.
I really enjoyed it.
Dan and I were messaging about it last night.
Have a listen here.
I think we got a case here.
Hey guys.
This isn't adding up.
And who asks you, rookie?
Our perp has a clear M-O.
A lot of this doesn't fit the pattern.
And I don't think everything is a clue.
It is to the Swifties.
It was really well done, actually.
I'm going to get Taylor as a bounce back set back up.
But some of the winners, if you want to know,
The best comedy is Widows Bay.
Go and check that out.
Jean Smart from Hacks.
She is the only female ever to have won best actress for every season she's ever done.
Wow.
How amazing is that?
The Pitt won best drama and he also won the best actor.
I keep getting that advertised to me and I've never clicked on a hit.
Oh, it's brilliant.
The difference with the Pitt is that every episode, it's just a day.
So it goes by the hour.
So if you have an hour episode, it's only an hour in the hospital.
And you can jump around, like I watch episode 1 and 7.
No, well, kind of follows the story.
Watch from the start.
So episode one is the first hour of his shift.
Episode 2 is the second hour of his shift.
So there's not like jumping from different days.
Don't watch it if you're squeamish because it's very realistic.
Yeah, I had to stop watching it after some like kid stuff.
Yeah.
And I just wanted to say as well quickly before we move on about the Taylor Swift stuff.
I was really impressed with how good her acting was.
Her acting prowess in that whole scene.
Very believable.
I thought she nailed it.
She's such a love or a
hater. She's such a talented
person, isn't she? Absolutely. Law
Order, in one word, is
the text bounce back for that. L-A-W-O-R-D-E-R if you want to see it.
Cool. All right, thanks Mick.
I've got time for another tune.
What everyone else might be going into ads and then your chance to have a crack at
Easy Money.
And five on the edge.
Easy Money.
One letter. 10 k degrees
and just 30 seconds.
Let's play. Easy Money.
One bar seven.
Chrissy got the job done this time.
She won a thousand bucks.
Let's see if you can do what the letter is M.
10 answers and 30 seconds.
You can pass, but you can't give us the same answer twice.
Holly is playing this morning.
Hey, Holly.
Hi.
All right, letter is M.
Who won yesterday?
What was the name?
Christine.
Chrissy.
Chrissy.
Chrissy won yesterday.
Let's do it again.
Give our boss a heart attack, eh?
Yeah.
You know, we've got the momentum here, Holly, because we've had a win recently.
So let's see if we can carry it.
I'm try my best.
Okay.
That's the attitude.
All right.
Time starts at the end of me, asking your first question.
Here we go.
Give me a family member.
Mom.
A country.
Malaysia.
Something you can drink.
Milk.
An animal.
Monkey.
Something you buy from a bakery.
A muffin.
A singin.
My son.
A car brand.
A TV show.
My life.
My family.
A type of cheese.
Cheese, um, mozzarella.
A musical.
Oh my God, have you got a musical?
You just want a thousand dollars?
Oh.
Have you given us an answer to a musical?
Matilda!
My goodness.
Mary Poppins.
Wow, Holly.
God, darn it.
We'd have to go back to TV show as well
because I'm pretty sure you may have said,
My family.
We'd have to check if that was a thing.
Could be.
Could be a TV show.
I'm looking at right now.
I'm looking now.
I'm looking now.
My family's a sitcom.
would have passed.
Okay.
Well,
God, that was so close, Holly.
Just needed a musical
for a thousand bucks.
Yeah, Mary Poppins.
That'll rip your 90
the rest of the day, won't it, Holly?
Just a little.
Yeah, hey, well, it's a bloody good showing,
your absolute top-tier, easy money player.
Thanks, Holly.
Perfect.
Thank you.
Yeah, back again at 8 o'clock
if you think you can do
what Holly just missed out
on doing another thousand bucks on the line.
She was a chicken hatchery administrator.
Isn't that a cute job?
I hope so.
Yeah, I don't know much about chicken hatcheries and, you know, bimbing out.
Sounds cute to be.
Right, we are continuing to name our New Zealand Warriors squad of 13 jinxes.
Your favourite radio show?
And podcast for Edge Breakfast.
Clint Megan Dan.
Clint Megan Dan's, New Zealand Warriors.
A team of Warriors worried that they might jinx the wars in their elimination final on Sunday against Newcastle Knights,
who, by the way, have not won in New Zealand since 2018.
Don't say that Clint, because that's the sort of stuff that jinks is the warriors.
I'm a self-confessed jinks.
Every time I watch a game, even if it's on the TV, when I go to a game, even if I look at the score, they lose.
So I'm taking myself out of the equation.
I'm going down into a bunker.
We've found one. Archie Brothers Meg.
It's going to be an incredible night Sunday.
Archie Brothers New Market, if you haven't been there before these holidays, I believe that Archie Brothers New Market, you can load your card and they'll double your credit.
So make sure you head along there, and that's a nice easy day for school holidays.
It's my kid's favourite place in the world.
So I'm the captain of this Jink squad.
We've already got a few people.
I think there's a seven or eight people that are on the squad already.
We need more people.
We need to make up the numbers to 13.
Okay, well, we've had a few DMs.
Lisa hit us up.
She would like to be part of the Jink Squad.
Her friends, she said, have actually started excluding her from important events
because they think that she is that bad luck.
Jesus.
What?
Those are just your friends.
Get new friends, darling.
Well, let's just here.
She attended a wedding last month.
The bride snapped to Archelies on the dance floor.
She went to her friend's housewoman just last week
And they had a power cut
And she said she's been to three Warriors games
This year, they lost all three
Oh my God, we need to get you out of the equation
You're coming along, you're part of the squad
And we're going to get you some new friends too, Lisa
Maybe she'll make some new friends as part of the squad
In the bunker, yeah
In the bunker
Okay, let's go to some people here
Antonia
Morning
Morning
Good, so you're not dobbing in yourself
You're dobing in someone else
Yeah, I'm dobing in my partner, George
Okay, what's he done? Why is he unlucky?
So he's
an architect technician, so he goes
and used sites, and one day
he went to a site, touched the scaffolding
pole, and it collapsed all around the whole house.
Oh my God, that'd be a massive
disaster, the whole scaffolding rag coming down.
It's like might as touch, but the reverse.
Can I also say, I feel like it should have been better
put up if it just a little lean on it, knocks it all down.
That's true.
You know what I mean? I feel like there are bumps in scaffolding
that happen. It's inevitable.
Antonio, he's going to be coming along.
Welcome him with open arms to the Jink Squad.
I just won't get him to touch any scaffolding while he's there.
Great, thanks so much.
Okay, he's in.
Okay, let's go to someone else.
Morning, Sarah.
Hey, how's it going?
Good, Sarah.
So you're dobbing in someone else as well?
Yeah, I'm dobbing in my partner.
Okay, what's he done?
Well, he was doing some gardening,
and he ripped the ligament off his shoulder,
had surgery, coming right,
and then his friend was having a heart attack at the bar
and he quickly threw or leaner away
so they could get down and do some CPR on him
and he ripped it again
and now he's been off work for like nearly two years
ACCC
and so the heart attack victim lived
had five stents in his back at work
Jesus, okay so the hard attack guy
he can't come to the bunker because he sounds
I mean turns out quite lucky
quite lucky yeah yeah yeah he's lucky
whereas your husband
or your partner
Your husband sounds extremely unlucky.
So he is going to be welcomed with open arms again to the bunker.
He's there Sunday night.
Is he a Warriors fan?
He's a Warriors fan.
Okay, well, we thank him for his sacrifice then.
Even though I know he would like to watch the game,
we can't have the unlucky people doing that.
And the thing is the game's sold out now.
So you can't go along anyway.
You may as well come under ground and look at the score at the end of the game.
That's the way I see it.
That's true.
Yeah, 50,000 people Eden Park sold out within the day.
It's the biggest.
rugby league crowd that New Zealand's
had in 38 years.
Okay, so you can keep them coming through on the text machine
if you want to dobb in yourself or someone else.
Someone else is all actually two people have said,
are you guys not worried about all these bad luck people in one room?
Something horrific is going to happen.
I haven't thought about that.
True.
As long as it doesn't affect the was, mate.
Or what Archie brothers doesn't know what's about to hit him.
Someone else has said it's dangerous for society
with all you jinxes walking around together.
This is the Clint Meggin' Dan catch up.
Want to hear the guys off?
and a little looser.
Listen and watch their Overthinkers podcast.
I don't know if I'm going to come across quite weird here
because I think that everyone does this
and it might just be me and a handful of people.
But I saw this online and I was like,
okay, there is at least one other person that does this
where you compare all purchases that you buy in life
and determine whether or not they're a good deal
by comparing them to one item or thing in your life.
This is what I mean.
Take a listen to what this guy and his kids now compare every purchase.
just two. I pay my kids 25 cents for every dog poop they pick up. The problem is I've created a micro
economy where all labor or the cost of things is compared to dog poops. We'll be walking through
the grocery store and my kids will be like, dad, how many poops is this bag of chips? Dad, this
chocolate bar, that's six dog poops. I was at Costco the other day buying groceries and I thought
this isn't worth 1,600 poops. My son heard somebody say, kids nowadays don't know the value of a dollar.
He's like, I know, four turds. I like that. And I think I kind of have my own version of a little
little bit if I'm in my head thinking about buying something and it's kind of expensive.
I normally compare it to a lunch out. I go, oh, but if I went out for lunch for like lunch
with a friend and a drink, I'm like, it would be this. I would, that would, and that money would
just be gone. I wouldn't even think about it. Like lunch for some reason feels easier to spend
$60 dollars these days if you're getting lunch with a bowl of fries and a drink or two.
60 to 70 bucks. And I'm like, and that's just gone. I don't even think, you know, that so I feel.
So you're at Kmart, you see something for 60 bucks,
and you go, well, this is one less lunch I have with a friend.
Yeah, I mean.
The thing with this is people put value on different things.
Yeah.
Like I might look at a remote control car and say that's worth 20,000 lunches.
Meg might not, you know.
How expensive is your car?
You don't want to know.
Wow.
So my currency is beer.
So if I go buy something, it's $100, I think I'm working it,
and I'm dividing it by the cost.
I mean, let's say the cost of a beer is like $15.
So then I'll be like, that's like seven beers.
Yeah, he could be like, I could numb my feelings for a half.
Yeah, like if you go out to a bar.
$15 for a pint.
For a pint.
Easy.
Give or take, depending on the beer and where you're buying it.
Oh my God.
But if I see something, I'll always try and work out how many bears it is.
And then I'll be like, okay, so that's three, that's three beers, no biggie.
I think that's proof that you're an alcoholic.
Anyway, Carl.
This is so weird.
I've just realized that I do this as well.
But I, for some reason, always compare, like, my prices to a donna kebab, which
is about 15 bucks.
I've just always done it in my head
and I've only just realized this
but I go, is that good value?
Because I'm like,
if I was going to go buy myself lunch,
I love a donna kebab.
Like Atlanta.
And so now I'm going,
oh, that's what I do.
I go off 15 years.
So then if you went to go buy a saw
or some sort of techy thing
because I know you're like fixing stuff,
then you'd be like,
oh, it's like 18 kebabs.
Yeah, which is a lot of.
It totally is.
Why do we do it?
That's so crazy.
18 kebabs sounds like a lot of kebab.
Yeah, it's a lot of money.
Then you go, oh, that's too much for a saw.
But if that saws only seven kebabs, yeah, I could justify the sacrifice.
So what are you wanting here?
People are what they're comparing their purchases to?
Yeah, what are you comparing your purchases to,
to determine whether it's a good deal or not?
You probably have only just clicked that you do this.
What is your currency?
Is it coffee?
I reckon a lot of people would be coffee and say, oh, what's coffee?
Like, what's a long black these days?
It's five bucks.
I do that with charity.
If I go, they want $20 a week.
I go, that's just four coffees.
Which seems like a lot.
So you go sign them up and just add them to your long list of charities.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I've got so many of them.
Yeah, and that's why Dan doesn't drink coffee.
Is this the thing you actually do?
Or it's just a weird thing we do on the team?
I wait under the edge of 33443.
What is your currency that you're always trying to compare every purchase to?
The phones will be quiet if it's just us.
Clint McGee and Dan, I thought I might be the only one that does this,
but then I saw this online.
And it turns out, no, there is somebody else that has like a currency
that they compare everything to to work out if it's a good deal or not.
I pay my kids 25 cents for every dog poop they pick up.
The problem is I've created a microeconomy where all labor or the cost of things is compared to dog poops.
We'll be walking through the grocery store and my kids will be like, dad, how many poops is this bag of chips?
Dad, this chocolate bar, that's six dog poops.
I was at Costco the other day buying groceries and I thought this isn't worth 1,600 poops.
My son heard somebody say, kids nowadays don't know the value of a dollar.
He's like, I know, four turds.
I love that.
It's great, isn't it?
And I think it, do you know, I'm even thinking about it now, I like to, I think it's really good to teach your kids that maths.
Yeah, I think it's really clever.
And now, like, if my kid wants to.
And also that poor dog.
Yeah.
How many poofs are you.
You're like pushing for that dog to poo more.
Yeah, you would be.
I'd be feeding him laxatives.
If my son wants to buy an app or upgrade something on his switch and it's like $12.99 and my wife sees that a stupid money because he's buying skins and things.
I'll be like, well, it's just, that's one beer.
Yeah, you can have it.
I can be everything to pints.
At least five of them a night.
Let's go to the phones, because there are some really niche ones coming through.
Morning, Hannah.
Good morning.
Okay, so what's your currency?
So I'm lucky I have a company car with fuel,
and so I just relate everything to how much I'd pay on fuel.
So get my nails done.
Oh, well, that's only a tank of fuel.
So I kind of justify it with the money.
Oh, I see.
So you're not spending their money.
I would have had to pay for that tank of fuel,
and I don't have to.
That's clever girl math, actually.
Problem is you probably go through a tank of gas
once a week, so you only get to use that
once a week, but I imagine you use it four or five
times. I'm going to start using that
as well. Not that I have a company car.
Yeah. It's incredible, Hannah,
to all these people like us
that don't have a company car. I imagine
it is something you probably take for granted
while you have it, but that is a game changer
right? No like
upkeep for the car, no fuel costs.
It must be incredible. Is it right, Hannah, they
reckon if you get a company car, it's worth about
15 grand in income.
At least, I would say.
Yeah, definitely is.
I mean, I live in the North Shore and work at the airport,
so it's a big drive every day that I save a lot of money on.
That's so great and so handy.
Even you don't have to buy a car.
That for insurance.
All that's $20,000.
Update insurance, all that stuff.
All right, Carly, what's your comparison when it comes to money?
Mine's a little bit different.
It's not currency so much, but whenever I have to measure something in feet,
I think about the size of a subway foot long.
Yeah.
And if they go, okay, it's about 15 feet away and you go, right, 15 foot long.
Jeez, that's a lot of foot long.
So that means I'm six foot longs high.
Yeah.
Is that incredible?
You know what?
I think everybody does that to a subconscious level, to a certain degree.
Like if someone says that's a foot long, I go, oh, so it's about a sandwich long.
Yeah, yeah, about a sandwich.
Yeah.
Thanks, Carly.
Jacinda says she compares everything the cost of parking outside work.
And if she goes and buys the thing, she knows she's going to have to sacrifice
walking to work a little further the next day.
Oh yeah, so if she had to go, he went and got the new iPhone duo,
she'd have to walk to work for 20 years.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, what it is.
Clint McIg and Dan, if you are worried that Lotto was too easy,
good news is that made it harder.
Yeah, as of tonight, the first draw where there'll be 14 balls instead of 10,
which means that the odds have gone from winning Powerball,
1 in 38 million
Too easy
To 1 in 53.7 million chance
So I think they've done the changes
Because it will make it more likely
To win in the smaller divisions
Everyone's got that one person at work
That's trying to come up with an idea
To justify their job
And someone a lot has gone
What do we own more balls?
Because they had to bat a deadline
They had to come up with a new idea
It feels very
it's just strange to come out of nowhere
nobody was asking for it so why has that happened?
Yeah, so it's, look, it's always been unlikely, isn't it?
And what's another 10 million or so?
Now, Dan might deter you from buying a ticket tonight
once you find out things that are more likely to happen to you
than winning First Division in Lotto now with the new format.
Well, I've got a few options.
I've got more likely and then less likely to happen to you.
Okay, so you're more likely to be struck by Lightning twice
over your lifetime than winning Lotto First Division.
Anyone though? Anyone that's been struck by lightning?
I have been.
You have?
Well, when I was in my car.
Yeah, my car goes struck by lightning and turn off the engine.
With my mum and my brother in it.
Really?
Yeah, yeah, truly.
Did you buy a lotto ticket that day?
No, no, I was like 10.
We were driving home and then we had a big,
it was in the thunderstorm, big flash of light.
The car stopped completely and we had to restart the car.
Why?
That explains.
What does that explain?
Please finish a sentence, please.
No, time.
Move on.
You've got more of a chance of becoming a New Zealand Olympian and all black
And you're more likely
Now with the new odds to die next year than winning lotto
In New Zealand
Don't tell me that I've got health anxiety
That's just a nightmare to get in my head
Well you're more likely to die
Brilliant thanks for that Dan
How much more likely?
Two times, three times?
Like thousands of times to be fair
I don't want to make it more scary for you Meg
But it's thousands of times more likely
to die. But on the
flip side, there is some positives.
Here's some things that are less likely
to happen to you than winning New Zealand auto.
Flipping heads on a
coin 26 times in a row.
That is less likely
to happen. Correctly
guessing a random eight digit
pin first try. So just out of the boom,
boom. That's a one in one hundred
million chance of happening. Out of the blue.
Winning a US powerball ticket,
that's one in 292
million chance. They make it way harder over it.
Yeah, so there is a few things that will happen to you.
Okay.
You're also less likely to give birth to identical quintuplets.
Yeah.
So there's a few options there.
I would go out and buy a lot of tickets still.
Well, it does seem like just an absolute waste of money.
But then, you know, all the proceeds from Lotto go back into the community.
$300 million a year goes back into a community project.
So, hey, you spend your money.
How old you works?
I don't know.
I guess you have to look into it in your own time.
Yeah.
It'd be great to see, as Richie says on the text machine today,
someone to take it out again tonight with the new odds.
Yeah, that would be amazing.
Hey, guys, we got a DM from a listener requesting a song,
which is always tricky because, you know, it's not something that we do.
We've got someone that picks all the music and does that for us.
But this is a song that only has played once a year on the show.
And they think because it's September,
and in particular blue September, men's prostate awareness month,
We should roll it out again.
No.
Yes.
We've played it once before, after the fact, and it's so convoluted and so confusing.
If you have never heard the country song to encourage men to get their prostate checked,
let's go through how that happened and whether it's a good idea to play it again before it.
I don't think it's a good idea, Clint.
Get your Clint Meg and Dan Fax.
It is the 16th of September.
Just gone past halfway.
and if you are unaware, it's also Blue September
and I had, honestly,
forgotten until we received this DM from Jace
just after yesterday's show.
Oh, that's a nice music.
Yeah, it's a beautiful email,
and I hope Jace is listening.
She says, hey guys, Jase here, it's that time again.
Blue September, raising awareness for prostate cancer.
Last year, your original country song that you wrote
encouraged me to get my prostate checked
and just as well, because early detection
actually according to the doc, saved my life.
I thank you for it.
Wow.
This year, more men need to be encouraged to do the same,
and I think the song is just the thing to make that happen.
Love your work team, Chase.
Now, I'm of the ilk that the song had its time.
It had its moment.
I would say it's timeless.
And I think there was a lot of information that went into making the song
that makes it convoluted.
No, I found all the bits that I can...
Wait, well, from memory, Meg, in mine is a bit hazy.
We didn't set out to write a prostate cancer, a winner song.
You boy said a country song is the easiest song to write.
And I said, them prove it.
But then I also wanted to make sure that you guys were involved,
that New Zealand was involved.
And so they gave us some ideas of what needed to be in the song.
So I did say that the cowboy needed to have the name Peter.
Which is fine.
That's great.
Right.
And then I said that his horse also needed to be named Peter.
Somebody texts in and said that they wanted like
some sort of sadness or a sickness
Somebody dying in there
Or I might have also told you guys
They need to be in Petersburg
We're putting in one more request for the song
Ren Morning
I think you guys should probably talk about prostate cancer
Yeah maybe time to put that in the song somehow
Ren's fault
So it did turn into a country song
About Peter and his horse Peter in Petersburg
And prostate cancer
I ended up actually playing it to our boss Jack
Just to see what he hasn't heard it yet
So what he thought of it to see if we could play it.
He wasn't here a year ago.
Have you heard his reaction?
No.
I asked him to send something.
I don't think he's going to love it, if I'm honest.
Oh dear.
I really wanted to like that.
At least you know it was an AI because it was far too crap to be artificial intelligence.
Yeah, that is.
I get that it's for a good cause and just as well that it is.
But that is some of your worst work.
That is, yeah, but lost for words there.
Should we ever play that again?
No, no, we shouldn't.
I mean, in talking about Blue September,
we're already encouraging men to go get themselves checked
without having to play the song.
It would be a disservice to not play it again.
I don't want people feeling left out.
I hate people feeling left out,
and they don't know what we're talking about.
Well, I think, look, all I'm going to say
is I'm wanting to wash my hands of the song,
even though it's my voice.
I want to wash my hands of the song
that talks about me shooting your bed,
and we played that for bloody five years.
We play the prostate song.
It's a good song.
Has anyone not heard it and doesn't know what we're talking about?
Or actually has heard it and goes, yeah, guys, play it again or don't ever play it again.
Alex text through, I'm feeling left out.
Yeah, he doesn't know what we're talking about.
Don't encourage it, Alex.
Take the edge off your day with Clint Meg and Dan.
For right now, though, it is Blue September Prostate Awareness Month
and encouraging mentor to get out and get their prostate checked.
Which is an incredible cause.
There isn't a lot of people die of prostate cancer every year in New Zealand.
Absolutely. And it's one of the best cancers that can be treated if you catch it early.
It's something that you can really get treated and live a long life afterwards.
So make sure you get checked.
And I think that's enough for me.
This is a move all.
Yeah.
But we did years ago, two, three years ago?
2000.
Jeez, okay.
We said writing a country song was the easiest genre.
And we got a whole lot of things thrown at us, including from a listener.
Could you write a song about prostate cancer?
Yeah, the lead had to be, his name was Peter, the horse's name was Peter, they lived in Petersburg,
they had to be a death, and it was about prostate cancer, that was the country song.
It was an absolute stitch-up, and I think people thought that Dan and I wouldn't tackle it, but we did.
It was tricky, I will be honest, it was a very tricky song to write with that subject matter.
Now you have the context, should we play the song, or like the boss said, I don't think it needs to happen.
Peter, I mean, not Peter, sorry, it's on my mind.
It's like another Peter.
It's all my mind.
Andrew, play the song, yes or no, it's okay if you say no.
100%
play it
Have you heard it before
Andrew or no?
Yeah a few times
I think we've played it quite a bit
Why Andrew still wants it
Every September
Every September he hears it
Okay
Once again Andrew
Have you gotten your prostate cheats then
Has it inspired you?
I should probably get it checked
Yes exactly
I think he self-checked
Tori morning
Morning
Have you heard this time
No, I haven't
And I reckon you should play it
Because why to hell not?
Can we keep Tori on so if we do play it?
We can go back to her and see if she regrets it.
Do you get your prostate checked to Tori?
Oh, every year.
Yes, good on, yeah.
Richie, final vote.
I'm taking three of them.
Okay.
All righty.
It's a we on Wednesday team.
Let's get it together.
Let's play the song.
Okay.
That's all right.
That's good.
Let's see if Richie regrets that.
And the rest of New Zealand, here it is.
It's a good.
Two minutes long.
Just remember it was for a good cause.
That's what I beg.
Women also don't have prostate plants.
I got a horse and his name's Peter.
I name is Peter too.
Live on a ranch.
There's farm.
Planting plenty pickled peppers in a big old barn.
And of course we live.
And no surprise to you.
Our house is in a town called Petersburg.
Peter is his favorite seed
Peter O Peter till his ass would bleed
The two of them went together like a glove
Horse so in some hay
His horse walked in with nothing to say
Along Luke Connor's face
Something wasn't alright
The end of the night
They decided to investigate
And realized it was his prostate
Yeah, there were from his red
Wasn't the rider
He never did let a finger up inside
And if he had he
Because nothing about a finger in your buddies
Hey
So the message is clear
Prostage
Qualified doctor
I think they're all qualified then
Well, there's cowboys out there, Clinton
Real Cowboys
Yo-ho!
Yeah, I wish
I wish I knew how to quit you, Dan.
Oh, I wish I knew.
Come here, you.
Oh, God.
Regret or not?
So that was the song.
Tori, thoughts on hearing it for the lesson.
I actually quite like
dancing in country.
Hate to Clint, though.
Nice.
I like you, Tori.
We'll keep you.
Oh, you're done about Clint.
Sorry.
It's probably the one thing bad about you, Clint.
I'm sorry.
So, to be honest, there's not one bit of negative
feedback.
I mean, it spreads awareness.
I get that.
If it encourages one man to get checks this September, that was worth it.
Yeah, I don't think those are the symptoms that you get.
I didn't think you don't think you two guys did your actual reset.
No, we just do any fact-checking.
Just take it at face value, get your prostate check.
I don't even think they do the finger up anymore.
Easy money next on the end.
Easy money.
$1,000 on the line.
Let's play.
Easy money.
Just go on 8 o'clock.
All right,000 bucks on the line.
Chrissy won it yesterday, but there's more cash to be one.
Right, right, right.
Let me just organize.
Asif, good morning.
Asif, I hear that you'd like to think you're a clever guy.
I'd like to say that.
Yeah, nice.
Well, this is looking good.
It bodes well, Asif.
Mm.
Okay, okay.
Uber day, driver by day, airport worker by night and about to win $1,000, hopefully, with easy money.
He's like, Batman.
Right, okay.
Okay, no repeated answers.
Your letter is F.
If you can give us 10 hours and 30 seconds, $1,000 is yours.
Good luck.
All right, Meg, when you're ready.
Here we go.
Give me a boy's name.
An animal
Fish
A body part
Fingers
Something hot
Pass
An emotion
Fluffy
Something round
An instrument
A flute
A three-letter word
Fat
Time
You're up to question eight
You had one pass in there
The something hot is a hard one
I can see why it threw you
Fire frying pan
Food French fries
The things that we could have
maybe done.
And I don't know if an emotion would be fluffy.
I mean, you said something there, and I think that's good to do.
Hey, wife laughing at you in the background.
But nice try as it.
Just that was his laugh, Clint.
Thank you, go.
Oh, it was yours?
Thanks, Seth.
Just because he's got a different laugh to you, mate.
I thought he had somebody helping him in the background,
which arguably isn't always all that helpful.
Thanks, sir.
Because the delay just is always going to set you up for a fail.
Okay, it's sudden death.
this weekend for the New Zealand Warriors
Sunday night playing at Eden Park
and we need as much of a chance to win this
as we can. That's why we're taking as many
unlucky people out of the equation.
Putting them all in one place in the Archie
Brothers bunker.
Meg though, which team is she on?
I'm just going for the food. Isn't that what's happening?
Well, I mean, you could be on my team watching the game.
Oh, Clit, no, but careful before you speak. She's very unlucky.
I'm not unlucky. I'm the luckiest person I know.
Dan and I are going to prove why you should be in my team or his team next.
Listen to your favourite breakfast show whenever you like.
Clint McGee and Dan's New Zealand Warriors.
All right, Dan is compiling a team of 13 of the most unlucky people in New Zealand,
getting them as far away from the Warriors game on Sunday evening,
sold out within 24 hours, by the way.
Yeah.
And putting them in a bunker at Archie Brothers and New Markets.
Actually really lovely.
It'll be, it's an arcade, temper and bowling, you've got food, drinks.
I mean, a lot of these people will be Warriors fans,
but they're making a sacrifice for their team
to not watch the game,
because every game they watch, maybe, they lose just like me.
So we're doing it this Sunday.
Uh-huh.
Do you know what I learned as well?
My daughter was listening.
She was like, I want to go to Archie Brothers
because my kids love that place.
And I said, are you unlucky?
And she goes, no, actually, every game I haven't watched,
she's like, they lose.
She's like, they win every time I watch them.
And I was like, well, you're sitting with me then, right?
We need her at the game.
We don't need her at Archie Brothers.
So the question is, where does Meg sit?
Because you're saying that she should be at the game.
Okay, I stand by, I think I'm the luckiest person alive.
I have my two beautiful, healthy daughters, the loves of my life.
My best friend is my husband.
I have a close little house that keeps me warm and dry.
I've got a job that I work for my whole life.
I work with two of my greatest friends, the luckiest lady.
Why would we put you in the unlucky bunker?
We need you outside cheering on the boys there.
Okay, well, I have some times that just on this show where you're
have been unlucky.
Case one.
I remember there was a thing where we had a spinning wheel
in studio and we spun it
and had our names on it and whoever it landed on
had to be dyed blue like smirf.
I don't know what it was for.
Maybe the new Smurf's movie was coming out or whatever.
Anyway, I think Meg's name was on at once.
And me and you, that's right.
And we were on it like 10 times,
Glinda and I and Meg was on it once.
I just think I've got a really bad relationship
with a spinning wheel.
If it lands on Meg, I'm going to die.
Yes.
Okay, here we go.
Just spin the wheel.
Okay.
Spinning.
Top.
It was fabric dyed.
It didn't come off.
You looked blue.
I was blue all up my arms up to my neck.
And then who else remembers that little thing, the pandemic?
Remember that?
Yes, yes.
Meg, arguably.
Oh, I did not cause this.
I know people say I did.
I remember I wasn't even on the show at this point.
It was back in 2020 and Meg was for some reason
smashing a mirror.
Yeah, she was saying that she didn't believe in,
she wasn't superstitious and didn't believe in like bad luck.
So she went through and did a series of things that most people would do,
opening umbrellas inside, walking under ladders,
and then went outside and smashed a mirror.
Oh, didn't even flinch.
Oh my God.
Bring it on, superstitious gods.
Jesus.
I was weirdly nervous.
I was very different.
How long after she smashed it to the pandemic happened?
About three or four days.
We went into lockdown
It's her fault
It's not my fault
It wasn't that person that ain't the bat
I remember what we did
That was me trying to stick up for black cats
That was me like being really upset
When I found out black cats
weren't getting adopted
So I tried to do something to prove that
So Meg I think we need you on our team
In the bunker
Yeah actually I'm starting
I don't know if I want to watch in the game
After the case that you've just painted there
Even though I think you're lucky
And maybe you are
Maybe your luck has changed
But I still don't think we can risk it
I think we need to take you out of the equation
and get you underground in the bunker.
And there'll be free food there.
Can I have the free food?
Do I get a merch pack?
Do I get a merch pack?
You can have a merch pack and you have all you can eat.
Actually, speaking of those Warriors' Postie Plus merch packs, we've got a few of those.
If Warriors fans would like to call up right now, 0800 the edge and then thank Dan and now Meg and others like Stacey, Sonny, Jono, Sarah, Kerry, Tony, April, Michelle, who are all going to be in the bunker who are sacrificing themselves for the greater good.
Yeah, we're going off to war.
Yeah, we've got these Posty Palace merch packs.
They have the official licensed NRA Warriors merch at Posting.
They're selling fast if you want to get some before the game.
And you need to wear this with pride on Sunday night while we're sacrificing for the country.
Wise fans who refuse to not watch, would you like to call and thank those for their sacrifice
who are going into the bunker over the weekend.
It's breakfast, Clint McGintan.
We are compiling a team of 13 New Zealand Warriors,
worried that they might jinx the boys on Sunday.
of their game against the Newcastle Knights.
This has all been birthed really
from my unluckiness and my jinks nature.
I don't know how it's been ripped in.
Well, every time I watch a game, they lose.
So as much as it's tempting
to watch this game this weekend,
I'm going to take myself out of the equation.
I'm going to go into the bunker, Archie Brothers,
and have a night of fun.
Take my mind off the game.
And as someone who's been watching The Warriors
since I was 10 years old,
1995, when they ran out of the tunnel,
as the DB bitter warriors
to Jimmy Hendrix Voodoo Child,
I thank you, Dan, and now you Meg, and others
for their sacrifice.
You're welcome. And other Warriors fans are
uniting who also want to thank you.
There is still spaces on the team as well if you're
unlucky, get involved. Cat.
What a cat?
Hey, Kat. It's Eddie, her daughter.
Oh, it's Abby. Hey, Abby. How are you, babe?
Good. I'm really
thankful for you guys to
sacrifice yourself and
not watch the game.
so we can win.
And we're doing it for children like you.
So they don't have to go through the pain and the heartache
of what the warriors have been in the past.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So thank you. We're doing it for you.
Thank you for that, Kat, darling.
Brooke.
Morning Brooke.
You've got something to say.
Hello, guys.
I want to thank the New Zealand Warriors
for sacrificing themselves so I can enjoy the TAB,
the rugby, the beers, all of that day.
Okay, well, it's not just me and Dan.
we can thank Sunny, Stacey.
Sarah's actually coming all the way out from Rotorua.
Yeah, I mean, there is a chance we might not be with you in a couple of days.
How many more jerseys?
Because you've got a New Zealand Warriors squad of 13,
worried that they will be jinxing the actual Warriors.
How many more jerseys you got left?
I've got nine or ten.
No, how many do I have left?
Seven.
Seven.
Okay, so my goodness.
Seven spots left.
Seven spots left.
Oh, I've just been added to probably six.
Yeah, six.
I want my merch back.
Honestly, if I'm going to have to be in this.
Everybody gets a merch pack.
Okay, and Laura from Blenham, you would like to thank those in the North Island
that are either making the trip to the bunker or those Aucklanders who are sacrificing their selves for the greater good.
Oh, is that me?
Morning, I was just thinking about my manager, Robbie.
Shout out to him because of him.
I'm a huge Warriors fan.
And when they win, I get more annual leave.
So thank you all for your huge set.
You're welcome, Laura.
I have a great.
holiday. And it is a sacrifice because we, you know, Meg, we'll all go into that bunker on Sunday night, all of us 13 people. And we don't know if we're going to come back.
What do you mean?
Yeah, no.
Well, you've got the unluckiness people in the country all in one room together.
Yeah, anything could happen. Like, the place could fall down. We're all in there, you know.
It's at New Market Mall. It's like a brand new building. I could get on the head with a bowling ball.
That's probably from me, and most likely to happen, yes.
I've said to my wife and my son,
I'm going away this Sunday, and I don't know if I'll be bad.
Well, Laura, Brooke and Abby,
we thank you for thanking those
for their sacrifice. We've got
Warriors merch packs from Posty
to send out to you. You can shop your official license
NRL merch at Posty. They are selling fast, of course,
because the boys, hopefully are going to take it all the way.
Should we do it a bit quick? Up the was.
Are you allowed? Are you allowed?
Are you allowed to do that? No, we're not allowed to do it.
Clinton, you do it.
Up the was!
Yeah, yeah
Hold back, Dan, hold back
Don't you do it, man
Don't you do it, don't you do it
Do not
Don't you do it
And next we catch another
Jared
Yeah, he is going viral at the moment
For doing a bit of a streak
With something, not a nudy streak
But something consecutively
Which he is working towards a goal
It's incredibly unique
And we're really impressed by him, aren't me?
Yeah, The Edge is the home
Of Clint McGon Dan
The Age
I've got a very interesting guy
Joining us on the show right now
Jared Young, he's on a bit of a weight loss journey,
and it's kind of harder to stand out amongst the crowd on social media these days
when trying to get people to follow along on your journey.
So he's found a very unique way of measuring his goal weight.
He is sitting on lawn chairs once a week,
and will continue to do it until he loses enough weight that he stops breaking them.
Let's give this a shot.
All right, this is week number two as promised, breaking a chair every week.
Week three of sitting in plastic lawn chairs until I lose enough weight until they stop breaking.
Well, he joins us right now.
I'm assuming standing up.
Morning, Jared.
Good morning, yes.
Absolutely on my feet.
Jared, well, first off, how much weight have you lost so far?
I think you've only been doing it for four weeks.
Is that right?
Well, I've been at it for quite a long time.
My highest I've ever seen is 597 pounds.
Wow.
I haven't officially released my new video, but I'm down to first.
414 now.
Okay, so that's it.
In New Zealand, we do working KG.
So that's 270 KGs, down to
187 KG.
That's crazy, Jared.
What are you been doing to lose 100 kilos?
Pretty much eating like a bird.
I'm a big fan of the keto diet,
so it's pretty much meat and vegetables.
You've amassed quite the following on this journey.
How many followers have you gained
just from sitting on plastic chairs and breaking them?
I'm above a little of 100K now.
Wow.
How did you get the idea, Jared?
Because everyone's obviously got to find a niche way to stand out
on the internet and a lot of people doing weight loss goals.
Your one obviously stood out to us.
Who came up with it?
It actually was my idea.
And then I was on my way back from my trainer's house and I saw a bunch of plastic chairs
sitting out by the trash.
I was like, this is a sign if I've ever seen one.
I have to tackle these things because every big person has a story about snapping
one of these things, whether you're drunk or just sober, try to take a seat.
Everyone's got a story.
Have you ever found yourself in a situation that those are the only chairs offered,
Jared?
Yeah, 100%.
For being my size, I'm pretty good at just doing like a
wall sit type thing because you can't
put it all your weight in those things.
How many chairs do you currently have
waiting to be tested in the garage?
I have 24 victims sitting in my garage right now.
Oh, and they're all shaking on their legs.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Have you considered the fact you might need more?
You know, I'm really hoping not,
but I've just bought enough to get me through the winter.
I know with weight loss, it can be,
like, to you, one of the goals is
you sit on a laundry chair and it doesn't break.
the other non-scale goals or accomplishments that you've seen?
Yeah, 100%.
I'm finally down to the weight where I don't need a seatbelt expender, which is like a massive
non-scale victory.
It's such a great idea, and I think people will get behind you because the day that you sit
down one of these plastic chairs and it doesn't break is going to be a joyous occasion.
The last video I posted, you could hear for a split second where I was like, oh, like it
wasn't going to go and all of a sudden I just fall in the water.
Yeah, yeah.
If you're sitting at almost 600 pounds, 270 plus kilo, what's that moment where you go, right, I'm going to lose some weight?
You know, I'm 34th. It's about probably eight years ago where I started having kids and not to get too personal or anything, but I think about all these children who don't have parents because of freak accidents or cancer or something like that.
I'm like, my kids can't grow up without a dad because they couldn't put a fork down.
So those are the things I think about all the time.
We're so impressed with your streak so far, and we hope that the street continues until it ends.
Fingers crossed, you don't need to use those 24 chairs and good on you for making a goal and, you know, making your way to reaching it.
Yeah, I appreciate it.
Thanks for having me.
Yeah, man, if we got a few Kiwis that do want to follow along with Jared's journey, Rebuilt Dad official on Instagram.
Follow along and see somebody absolutely changed their life.
It's not if, it's win.
It's going to happen.
Yes, I love that attitude.
Thanks for the inspiration this morning, bro.
Appreciate it.
Yeah, take care.
love to talk streaks.
I find that so interesting when people are on like a,
and it's like 60 days in a row, 100 days in a row.
And what people decide to focus their energy and their time?
I recently broke a Nutra grain streak.
I'd have Nutraign every day for breakfast.
Every, every, every day.
I had a burrito every day and we went through a bit of a buffet.
Yeah, but I was like for years, for years since I was a kid.
I love Nutri-Grain.
And then I've just recently stopped and moved on to something else.
Brand.
Brand.
I'm much more regular.
That was running like 10Ks a day, every day,
or some guy as well,
and they've been doing it for like two years
without a day off.
It was crazy, wasn't it?
And we had that guy at work
who had like tuna and rice every day for a year.
Yeah, that's right.
For lunch.
Yeah, God, he lost lots of weight, though.
Yeah, if you want to send through your unique streak,
maybe we can go there coming up after 8.30 this morning.
Clint McGinn Dan's getting close for that.
See it.
Get your Clint McGinn-Dand-Dan fix.
We had Jared Young on, who's currently in a four-week streak of sitting on deck chairs until he loses enough weight to stop breaking them.
And it's got us talking about interesting or unique streaks that you're currently on at the moment.
Because once you realize how long sometimes you've been doing something, you go, I can't stop now.
Yeah.
Like the Snapchat streak, I think Kim's weighing in on it.
But this isn't even the most impressive text that we've had about this.
Hey, Kim.
Good-day.
How you guys?
So you're one of the...
Snapchat is still used very, very heavily.
I deleted it a few years ago.
But people still use it a lot, don't they?
I only use it for this.
Yeah.
So what's your current Snapchat streak?
Okay.
2,258 days.
We do it once a morning, and it's a good morning, and that's as good.
That's all.
Who's it too?
You're just a mate.
One of your mates?
Just with a mate.
Just with a mate.
I like that.
I kind of like that.
It's just your thing with you and your mate.
Well, you've been doing it now for just over six years,
and somebody else texts in their streak of over 3,000 days,
and I worked that out.
They've been doing their streak for nine years.
Oh, my gosh.
That's amazing.
All it is is proof of life.
Yeah, I was going to say, Kim,
if you don't get one,
you're going to call the ambulance right away.
Correct.
Correct.
Yeah, the other person that said that it's with their husband,
and they've got 3,292 days.
I wonder how many of them are nudes.
Yeah, I thought that.
Probably minus five, like at least than five.
This is crazy.
Someone texted and saying,
I've been phoneless for 16 days now.
Ooh, I love that for you.
Is that, I wonder if that's on purpose.
Like, they just were like,
I'm getting rid of my phone or where they just lost it.
Or you lose it.
And then once you go four or five days,
you go, I wonder how long I could go for.
This is incredible.
Okay, let's go to Logan.
Logan, you've had no social media on your smartphone
for how long?
I've had no social media.
I've had no smartphone for three years.
Oh my God, bless.
So what phone do you have? Do you have a brick?
Yeah, pretty much.
Just a dumb phone.
All it can do is texting call.
That's it.
Oh, Logan.
I'm so jealous of you.
Be honest, Logan.
Are you happier?
Like, are you since getting rid of it?
Do you find your life is better?
To be honest, that's why I did it in the first place.
I noticed that everything was sort of just a bit slow.
Dane and all that kind of stuff.
I was, you know, just not being that productive.
Yeah.
So decided to make the change and get rid of social media first
and then ended up getting rid of the smartphone altogether.
Wow.
And life's being pretty productive.
Yeah.
Starting my own business and stuff like that and being more productive with the family.
I'm so impressed.
I'm actually, it's funny.
It's funny because I actually got a phone call.
I think it was about maybe seven months ago from Yaz's on the Yars on the Yars.
edge and I won a competition or whatever, but I couldn't claim it because I ain't got no smartphone.
That's the thing, hey, everything in society now relies on some sort of social media or something.
Yeah, well, you've got to scan the QR code, do order food.
You really inspired me, Logan.
You really inspired me.
I think we all need less time on smartphones and phones.
And so it's easier for some people than it is for others.
It depends on your job.
Even if it was just like one day a month where everyone, it was like the dumb phone day.
Yeah.
And we all did it?
Well, I do it every Saturday.
This has got to be a do-day.
I've been using the same moisturiser for over 15 years.
I used the same one for my body and my face.
Wow.
Yeah, that must be a very basic moisturiser.
That's a dude for all money.
Let's finish with Zara.
Morning, Zara.
Hello.
What's your current streak?
So I've been listening to you guys, actually, the edge since I was probably like five and I'm 22 now.
Bloody hell.
That is a long time.
Holy 17 years.
What, without missing a day?
It's at the point, yeah, do you not miss the day?
What?
I mean, sometimes, we're not really.
God, you must really hate Fletch Fawden and Haley.
No, it's at the point that you would like,
we could put anybody on the show really,
you're like, I'm just loyal to the edge and the brand.
No argument on that one.
Yeah, she's like, you know what?
I don't want to even say anything to that.
Thank you very much, Sarah.
and we're better for you listening.
Someone said, used to be an alcoholic,
I gave up drinking.
My streak is 132 days currently.
Very good.
Way to get it done.
We're very proud of all of our friends
that work here on The Edge
and I notice that one of our fellow colleagues,
Harrison, did something very, very cool.
I saw it on the internet yesterday,
speaking of the internet,
and I want to play you the ad
that he helped write yesterday.
Wow, make a love your flex.
Clint Meg and Dan.
Edge Breakfast.
The Edge.
I saw her an advert.
on social media yesterday
and I thought it was so great and
it made me smile. It's about love
being a flex or make love your flex
and it's got these guys
that look like they're going to a party
and they're drinking beer and alcohol and your
brain goes to what you
expect them to be talking about when it comes to their
girlfriends. Like locker room chat? Yeah exactly
which was what we've heard before
from very, very well
known high political figures of what happens
in locker room chat and what goes down
in the boys club. True. And
you know, it's been told to us. It's not like we're even guessing.
We're told what has been said in big
places where men gather and this is the opposite
of that. It's two guys fighting over how great
their girlfriends are. And have a listen to the clip here.
In fact, if you want to watch it, is it flex to 3343?
Love. Oh, sorry, love to 3343.
Text that through. Watch the whole thing because I think everyone needs to see it.
You good? I'm sorry.
Because of her? Oh, I hear you, bro.
In fact, my girlfriend says I'm a fantastic listener.
So you like listening.
you should hear our conversations.
Oh, we love uncomfortable conversation.
They deepen our connections.
We connect on so many levels.
We're like an elevator in a big building.
My girl got a promotion in a big building.
Guess what?
I can't stop yapping about it.
That's for her.
She was gunning for that position.
I love that for her.
Thank you so much.
Can't wait for Snuggles 2.
Love you.
I love you too.
Yeah!
I love this.
It's such a great ad.
Love to 3-3-4-3.
I highly suggest everybody
kind of pushes it around and gets it out to more of the internet.
I was looking through the credits and I saw
one of the writers was our very own Harrison.
Hey, here he is.
From the actual London show Harrison.
Morning, bro.
Morning, there, guys.
It's so exciting to hear you guys talk about it.
We'll talk about it.
It's probably the truly one of the proudest things we've got to work on.
That's cool, isn't it?
Because I think there is, like, there's become this, like, stigma, especially for guys.
Yes.
Around talking about and talking lovey-dovey.
Yeah.
You know, and being, like, talking about your girlfriend.
Proud of your girlfriend.
Yeah, and just being soppy.
I remember, it used to be like the word whipped would be an insult.
Like, if you were in love, it was an insult.
I even remember, like, my husband now, I mean, we've been together 13 years,
so this is going back a decade.
But when we first got together, it would be like, oh, you're so whipped now.
And it was a bad thing to have fallen in love instead of celebrated.
How did this whole thing start, Harrison?
Like, who has the conversation, who starts putting the money and the funding behind it?
So there's a guy called Stephen Hunt.
He's a director in Australia.
And the Ministry of Social Development reached out to him
and they had this idea called that Love Flexing.
Because, you know, there's looks maxing and all that kind of stuff
about love flexing.
And then he reached out to me.
So he's like, hey Matt, we're the young guy to come write it.
So we wrote it together.
But it was to do with, you know, like this whole
atmosphere stuff going on at the moment
or all these young boys.
gosh just drowning
an absolute bullshit
on social media
of toxic males
and it's like how do we
how do we make an ad
that is relatable
to young boys
that's not cringe
like it was very difficult
as a fine line
there's a lot of writing
to make sure
it never got too cringe
always stayed cool and grounded
and those love flex lines
we probably wrote
200 different lines flexing
you know
because we always wanted to make sure
it was even if
because there was a few lines
at the beginning of like
oh yeah you know
I cooked at dinner last night
It was so good at the time
No, no, no, don't say that
You can't even be saying that
It could be really flexing
How important, how proud you ought to love them
I think you've really nailed the brief
There was not one point
Where you would cringe about it
I think the acting was brilliant
I think the main kid that gets the text at the end
He's fabulously good
My favourite line was when one guy said
Hey, my girl got the promotion
The other one was like
And I'm very proud of it
I should have very well with that
And it's like a joints get together
It was just so refreshing
to see even if it is scripted and it is an advert,
I sat there and I got this big beaming smile on my face
and it made me emotional
because we don't have any chat about that men, boys, guys
talk like this in front of, about girlfriends and behind closed doors.
It's always been told to us the narrative is the opposite,
so it's amazing work, Harrison.
Yeah, you're going to do it?
Like, is there another one?
Is this going to be like a series off the back of its success, do you think?
Well, I don't know.
We hope so.
The brief was, the big brief for us, make the next ghost chips.
And I feel like we were, we've got it pretty close.
And it's more important.
I thought more important than drink driving.
I wouldn't say that.
It's still just as important.
So I'm very proud.
Yeah, that's great.
Honestly, I think you need to watch the whole thing to get the vibe because it sort of plays out.
And then there's a twist at the end.
It's love to 3343.
You won't regret it.
It's a really great watch.
Re-share it.
Get it on your stories.
Get the message out.
Thanks, Harrison.
Thanks, guys.
Appreciate it.
Thanks, mate. Between now and nine, do we want to take calls from lads that just want to love flex?
Should we do it tomorrow?
Should we, or do you want to, yeah, do you want, we can do it now?
We can do it tomorrow.
I'd love to hear boys flexing on how great their partners are.
Yeah, let's do a bit of live, love flexing.
Listen live weekdays from Sex on Rover and catch up wherever.
This is Clint, Meg and Dan.
The Edge.
All right, first, let's get into these Pokemon cards, which are now being treated basically like Bitcoin, their currency.
I have seen that a man
has quit his job as a data
analyst who was making
let me work out the money in New Zealand dollars
pounds to Enzi dollars
he was making $163,000 a year
and he quit because he was making more money
trading Pokemon cards
That's crazy isn't it
We've got a caller to go to shortly
But I was just looking up expensive Pokemon cards
One sold in February this year
26. Take a guess
as to how much it sold for. I'll tell you what it was.
It was a Pikachu Illustrator graded PSA 10.
I don't know what that means.
600 billion.
So he's done that thing.
Yeah, he's done that thing. I knew we would do that.
I'm going to say 62 million?
16 million.
Oh, I've got too high too. Sorry about that, Dan.
US dollars.
Okay. Let's quickly jump to Rick now before I move on.
Hi, Rick.
Hello.
Hey, so you're saying it's worldwide chaos right now with Pokemon trades?
Oh, look, it's massive.
at the moment, I'm not going to lie, it's one of the biggest things happening right now.
Today is it's 30th anniversary, so 30 years of celebration,
and they've released some sets, set this today nationwide.
So people are lining up all over the country.
I see if you guys are in Auckland, I see people have lined up overnight for it,
slept outside, and it's massive.
Rick, do you collect, do you, a Pokemon collector?
Yes, yeah.
What's your most expensive cart?
Like what's the
What's your benchmark?
Oh,
I've got a couple
But I've had Charzard from 1999
Wow
Its condition is
It's more based around the condition
But the price
In a mint condition
On one of those is upwards of, yeah
10K plus, yeah
Wow
That's great
Thanks for good to be into
Imagine if my son's like
Pokemon collection
End up being his retirement
like scheme
and 30 years from now.
Go and see if he's got any golden charisards or something.
Yeah.
And you would have heard the news that McLemore got dropped
and made a statement about being dropped from the Ed Sherrin Tour
after he did a speech talking about free in Palestine.
He has been doing this and doing amazing work for the kids of Palestine
for many, many years.
He wrote a song called Heinzong.
He spoke about it and then Ed Sharon was told,
basically, you won't be able to perform at my stadiums
by one of the stadium owners.
if you keep Maclemore.
Ed Sheeran chose to drop Maclemore.
And now more are pulling out, right?
And now people are pulling out of Ed Shearine's concert because of that.
These are the statements so far.
Finneas, who is Billy Arlish's brother, Finneas.
He said, artists must not be silenced when they speak up for the oppressed.
I have decided to withdraw my upcoming tour dates with Ed Sheeran.
I stand with Palestine and it's people.
We have Aaron Rowe.
This is a fantastic statement from him, I think.
It says, I've made the decision to withdraw as a support app for Ed Sheeran's
the loop tour. I don't take the decision
lightly. It has been a friend to me and has changed my
life. I could never thank him enough for this.
But as an Irish person, we know all too
well about genocide, forced famine, and
violent occupation. I cannot stand
by and allow billionaires to use their position
of power to silence the rifle voices
of those who speak up against Israel genocide
and who highlight the savage murder
of kids. I would lose all
respect for myself to carry on as normal.
I need to be true to myself and my ancestors
who resisted colonisation and fought for
a freedom that I enjoy today in
Ireland, free Palestine.
Aaron Rowe. And Ed's band have
also just dropped out. That's the thing
for me. I'm like, wow.
Yeah, yeah. Oh, damn I've lost that
that same. But Etcheron's band also
just have said we can no longer tour
being an Irish band. We have
decided to pull out of the tour.
Here we go. Their statement is
we've made the decision to depart the
Echiren band on the remaining tour.
We are a traditional Irish band who never
saw themselves playing in stadiums of
that size. We've been friends with Ed over 10
years, but we cannot.
This just in as well, his loop pedal has just pulled out.
So, I think it's literally everybody.
Puts him in a tough spot though, doesn't it?
Because contractually and financially and all these other things about his position.
So what does he do now?
Everyone's walking away.
What can he do now?
He's made a statement.
You can text the word Ed to 3343 and see what he is said.
But he chose his side, even though he's saying, you know, it's that whole thing that we say,
like sitting on the fence, you're choosing a side in a way if you're not.
You've got to open yourself up for the consequences.
You know what?
And that's what's what's happened.
People shouldn't be silenced, but you've got to stand by what you're saying.
So at this stage, is he just push it on through?
As far as we know, all these statements have come out within 30 minutes, guys, so it's a kind of growing story.
