Angel Studios is in the building. There's a number of exciting things happening. Right now, for example, I'm sitting here with Tim Che, who is a film director. He directed a new film called Firing Squad. He directed Freedom with Cuba Gooding Jr. That was on Showtime.

He did The Islands with Mira Sorvino. He did Sony Pictures, Slamma-jamma. I confess I missed that one. Tim Che, welcome. Thanks, Eric. It's wonderful being here. Well, tell us about the new film, The Fire. squad. Well, it's based on a true story, Eric, about three Christian prisoners who faced execution

in Indonesia, and they won the entire prison camp to Christ. What year was this? 2015, not too fast. What? That's amazing. Amazing. See, this is why, I mean, making a film about, this is a story you kind of think everybody should know about that. I hadn't heard about this. That is astonishing as a concept. It is, Eric. And you know what's interesting is if they had, let's say, changed because of their mom's apple pie, it would be on CNN. But as soon as you name the name of Jesus, it won't get on CNN, the usual liberal media. And so who produced the film? Epoch Times, Epoch Studios.

I did not know they were behind this. I shouldn't be surprised. Now, when is the firing squad coming out, the film? Oh, thanks, Eric.

It's hitting 2,500 theaters nationwide, August the 9th. Whoa, 2,500 theaters. That's a gigantic launch. It's a big deal. It's a huge launch. And our only competition is an animated film, so we have a real shot of being number one, all for Jesus.

It's not for anyone else. But, I mean, first of all, I want to mention my friend Kevin Sorbo is in the film. Cuba Gooding Jr. is in the film. But so tell us the story again. This is like one of these stories that when you hear it, you think, what? Tell me the story again. I can't believe. This happened in 2015 in Indonesia. 2015. So these prisoners were ex-drug dealers caught, and of course there's the death penalty for drug dealers. In Indonesia. In Indonesia. Wow. Death penalty. And while they were in prison, I'm a pastor. led all of them to Jesus.

And when they went to the firing squad, they sang amazing grace. And they won everybody, including the warden, to Christ. They won everybody to Christ at the prison camp. It was unbelievable. And they were all secular heathens until they met Jesus. I mean, this is one of those stories. I'm amazed I hadn't heard that. I'm thrilled.

If you hadn't made it into a film, I would say this has to be made into a film. Can anybody make this into a film? It's really, it's astonishing to me because I think, look, we're living in a time when more and more people of faith are beginning to get into media. I'm doing that on a number of levels because you think if we don't get these stories out to people,

that CNN is not going to cover this story. Probably Fox is not going to cover this story. These are powerful stories, hopeful stories, extraordinary stories, and most of the time we don't hear about them. No, that's absolutely right, Eric. And my wife and I, we did a film called Epic Journey for Daystar TV. And in 1970, terrorists took down the largest building in Oslo.

He parked a truck with fertilizer, and his 20-story building. In 1970. His name is Johnny Olson. Never, no one knew who did it until 2004. He turned himself in because that was one hour after he saw the passion of the Christ. He turned himself to Jesus. And that was one hour after Passion of the Christ. No one knew who did it. And that's another story that is not picked up by CNN, MSNBC, etc. Well, the world is changing in small measure because of you and me and many, many others that are in the game and that

we have a passion to speak the truth. How did this story, the firing squad, come to your attention? It was in Asia, and it was actually on an Asian network, and it said Americans and Brits are facing the firing squad, but they said one interesting thing that really propelled me to be more interested. They said, how are they feeling? They said the prisoners are at peace. Why? They have a savior, and that's what gives them peace. Wait, so you were in Asia?

I was in Asia. So were you in Indonesia or something? No, I was in Singapore. Okay, so you were in Singapore, and where is home for you, L.A.? Oh, Los Angeles. Okay. So you've been a filmmaker for you? for years. You happen to be in Singapore. You happen to hear the story and you realize this would make

a film. And I don't even think that TV anchor was, he was taken back because he was like a savior. Yeah. Who is his savior? I like it when the secular TV anchors or the sports announcers are taken aback. They're like, what? What do you mean, Jesus? What? I just want to ask you about how you got that hit. It's actually an interesting thing, this information that, you know, it floats around out there, somebody like you sees it. Now, how do you get into the film business yourself? Did you grow up in L.A.? Yeah, I was born and raised in L.A. and went to USC film school before going on to do other stuff. Yeah. And this is our 16th movie. Wow. Wow. Yeah. You're just the 16th that you've directed? Yeah. 16th movie I've directed.

You've been busy. No, no, no. All for Jesus. Yeah. And when did you come to faith? Were you always a person of faith? No, I was an atheist. And I tell people, you know, I told people they should abolish Christianity.

And what brought me to Jesus was a hotel room in the Manila Philippines where I took out of Gideon's Bible. And I didn't read inside the Bible, just the questions, who are you, where you're going, is there a God, all this. And I got on my knees accepted Jesus. and that was 22 years ago, never looked back. That is amazing. So you were a young man in, where did you say? I was an atheist. Well, I was doing graduate work at Harvard.

In what? In what? Law and business. I did a JD MBA. Wow. And at Harvard, you have to be an atheist, otherwise they won't let you in. That's right. I went to Yale.

It's the same policy. They're very strict. If you have any glimmer of faith, they're not interested. No, no. There's no Bible studies at Harvard, and yet it was founded by Christianity. Yeah, yeah. So you end up just opening a Gideon's Bible and just those questions. Isn't that amazing, right? So 22 years ago. 22 years ago, and you know, Eric, it's a metamorphosis that's supernatural. And we've seen it in 40 countries. It's just a supernatural metamorphosis.

And it's amazing what Jesus can do. And we've seen this in our documentaries. In 40, countries where people found Jesus. And, you know, again, if, you know, these three prisoners, they were converted because they're their mom's apple pie, it would be all over CNN. Yeah. But you say the name of Jesus, and you wonder why, well, Jesus said if they hated me, they'll hate you. Yeah. So, yeah. Yeah. What can you do? Well, I mean, I'm just, look, first of all, I'm thrilled to meet you and thrilled to hear about the film. The film folks, let me mention it again. It's called the firing squad. It's starring Kevin Sorbo. I just saw Kevin. You just walked past. No joke. Only at the NRB. Is that Kevin? That's Kevin Serbo. He's in the film I'm talking about right now.

And his wife, too, Sam. Kevin Sorbo, any minute Cuba Gooding Jr. is going to, you know, fly in or something like that. This is unbelievable. This is hilarious. We didn't plan this. This was not planned. We're talking about the firing squad. And what role does Kevin play in the film? And by the way, Kevin is your biggest fan, Eric. He loves you alive. And I'm his biggest, his biggest fan. I don't really like his wife, though. She's overrated. She's right here. You know what? Sam Sorbo. No, seriously, how wonderful. Eric Metaxus. For example, today, Brandon Gill, my friend, Brandon Gill, who is running for Congress in Texas, I am really unapologetically excited, enthusiastic about the prospect of Brandon Gill being in the United States Congress. Brandon Gill, welcome. Eric, thanks for having me on. Well, listen, you know,

I've told my audience that I've known you and your beautiful wife, Danielle, and your father-in-law, Dinesh, and I'm just so proud of you that you're doing this. And so for my audience, what district are you running in? What area is it? This is Texas's 26th congressional district. This is the area north of the DFW Metroplex. So it's Denton County, excluding Denton the city, up north into Cook County and west into Wise County. So this is an area that I have been in a lot over the year.

and I didn't realize that. But that's, so what led you, Brandon, to this decision? Because it's a big deal to say I want to run for Congress. I mean, I mean, there's so many members of Congress who are outrageously unqualified, who should not be there. And so, you know, if I were thinking of running for Congress, I would think, well, look, there's about 200 fools that are in Congress right now, or way more than that.

So I think, you know, I think I could handle it. But what led you to the process of saying, I want to do this? And of course, as I've said, I'm so glad you have made this decision. But what led you to this? You know, the biggest thing is this. The country's clearly going off a cliff right now, fiscally, with open borders, with dirty books and schools socially. And a lot of that is the fault of the left, of course,

because they've just gone completely off the rails, and we all know that. but it's also the fault of a Republican Party that has put up no meaningful opposition at times to the left's agenda. And one of the, you know, it's one thing to say the left is crazy. It's another thing to say that the good guys, our team, aren't fighting back. And for the past 30 years, in my opinion, the Republican Party has been playing politics as if we're still living in the 1980s. You know, it's funny because you and I haven't talked, this is exactly what I say.

I know that this is right. I know that this is right, but it's a joy to hear you say it, because that is exactly what is happening. And it's a scandal. It is an utter scandal and abdication on the part of the gutless members of the GOP, absolutely gutless and guilty for letting the country go to hell on their watch. So thank you for saying that, and please keep going. Yes, exactly. And the Democrat Party is very different than the Democrat Party. of the 1980s. Here's one good example. Take abortion. Remember under President Clinton, the left's policy on abortion, and I don't agree with it, but their policy was safe, legal, and rare. Now, that at least has some modicum of sense to it. Again, I don't agree with it at all,

but it at least has some facade of reasonableness. Fast forward 20 years on the Democrat platform on abortion is shout your abortion. And today, the Democrat effectively, the Democrat Party platform on abortion is if you're a pro-life activist, we're going to weaponize the FBI and we're going to visit your house at 6 a.m. on a Sunday morning and bust down your front door with guns drawn. That's the opposition that we're up against now. In other words, the Democrat party of the Blue Dog Democrats is gone. It's dead. You know, the Democrat Party of Tip O'Neill is dead and we've got to wake up and realize it because we're losing the country by sleepwalking into this left wing led despotism. And that's why I'm running is because we've got to get a

Republican Party that actually fights back and realizes who are up against. I'm running in a really conservative district. This is probably an R plus 15 R plus 20 district. And whenever we have red areas like Texas 26, we need to run real hardcore proven conservative fighters because whenever the left has safe blue seats, they run hardened communists. So we've got to get, we cannot run an establishment person in this seat. We've got to run somebody who's actually going to stand up for the values of the Republican Party and the values of conservative movement. You mean not a coward. I think I can say these things because I'm not running for Congress, not to run a coward or a rhino bum who doesn't give a damn, excuse me, about the United States of America or his constituents. And, you know, the reason

I get angry about this is because I know that real human beings suffer as a result of these gutless pseudo-leaders, these misleaders that have been in the GOP party. And so, of course, it thrills me, as I've said over and over it, that you're running because you understand these things. When you reference Tip O'Neill, that's another thing. I've never heard anyone say, except myself. It's like people act like the head of the Democratic Party is Tip O'Neill. We can talk together. And, you know, after a legislative session, we'll go have a beer. And no, no, these are the enemies of America have taken over the Democratic Party. And if you're not up to fighting them, knowing your enemy and fighting your enemy for the sake of the Republic,

you have no business being in the legislature, in the Congress. And so the fact that you get this Brandon, you know, it is, it's music to my ears to hear you because we need a whole Congress full of people who understand this. We would take the nation back if we could do that. But we're in a, we're in an absolutely pitched battle. It's a war. Right. And you're exactly right. I think the conservative movement right now, we've got the ideology and the philosophy correct. It's just we need people with the backbone to actually carry it out. You know, in both the classical tradition and in the biblical tradition, courage was the number one virtue. And that's because if we don't have courage, we don't have anything. It doesn't matter what you believe if you don't have the spine

to actually fight for it. And that's what we're missing in the movement right now. I've said since day one that I plan on being in the Freedom Caucus immediately. I endorse President Trump on the first day of my campaign. And then he, of course, endorsed me as well. So did Senator Cruz. And I think it's because they recognize that we need people who are philosophically and ideologically grounded and willing to actually fight for what we believe in. Wait a minute. So Senator Ted Cruz endorsed you. Did Senator Cornyn not endorse you? I haven't gotten that endorsement yet. Yeah. And you know why? I can say this because I'm not earning for Congress. He's a rhino bum. And we need to get rid of the folks. Look, not, there are so many figures like John Cornyn in Congress, and the country has gone to hell

to the edge of the volcano. We're going to go in thanks to these folks over the decades, really not doing their job. So God bless Ted Cruz for endorsing you. I'm not surprised President Trump has endorsed you. I'm just glad to hear that. So how do you feel about your chances? In other words, what is what is your sense of the polling? Yep. Well, I'll tell you a little bit about the race here. We're feeling really good. I think, again, this is a conservative district. This is Trump country here in Texas 26, and they're looking for a conservative warrior. Now, things were going really, really well. About two weeks ago, some big D.C. Swamp super PACs, I think, picked up on this race, and they saw that I was doing well. They saw that I was supported by Trump, that I've been clear that, I'm going to be Trump and Cruz's biggest ally in Congress, and then I'm going to be a member of the Freedom Caucus on day one. And these big D.C. swamp liberal dark money super PACs dumped a million and a half into this district

and attack ads only against me, not in favor of any other candidate, not to hit any other candidate, not against anybody else, just to take Brandon Gill out. You know, it's like they were the never-Trumpers. And now in Texas 26, they're the never-bramper. So we've been fighting back against that. And it looks like some of their attacks are backfiring. I think people are fired up. They know that whenever you're endorsed by Trump and you're endorsed by Cruz and you're going to be in the Freedom Caucus, they know that people are going to come after you. The swamp doesn't like that. And they can see through the attack. So despite everything,

Hey there, folks. In case you didn't know, I was at NRB. I am at NRB right now. In fact, I'm in Nashville. I admit it. Here I am in Nashville. And all kinds of friends are stopping by the radio booth. For example, welcome Alex McFarland to the Eric Mattaxas show. Hi, Eric. It's great to see you. You've been on the show many times. So, you know, what should we talk about, Alex McFarland? Do you, you know, you're on the radio all the time. You're talking about all kinds of stuff. What's on your mind?

Well, first of all, Eric, it's great to see you. I have a measurable respect for you, not only as a scholar and a communicator, but just as a Christian friend. And so thanks for allowing me to be with you again. Let's talk about saving a nation, which, to a large degree, God is using you, toward that end? Let's hope so. I mean, that's why I'm doing what I do for God's purposes, right? And I am encouraged, I have to say, by what I see.

But we are in a war. I mean, it's an amazing thing, how far things have slid away from, you know, what I would say is the Lord's will for this country. And the church has been complicit in our silence and inaction. And so I am encouraged that things have gotten so bad that people are waking up. But the time is short. The window is closing. Exactly.

And let me just say this. As you know, I travel a lot. And I give God the glory I've been in over 2,000 American churches. I'm on the road a lot. What? people are talking about Eric Metaxus. They're talking about letter to the American church. And I'm encouraged because I see a level of awareness and concern

and the willingness to consider being involved like I've never seen before. And the Bible says in 1st Corinthians 1558 that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. And I want you to be encouraged. I know what you do, all of your hours of research, you're writing, you and your family have quite literally given yourselves for the purposes of God. And it's making a difference, Eric. And I thank God for you. Praise God.

It couldn't have been easy. Coming from you, because I know you're out there. You know, I don't get the feedback sometimes that I would like to know what is happening. I mean, I am encouraged. I think part of it is waking people up also to the false shepherds. to the people that are spreading unbiblical ideas as Christian leaders. You know, we've had this horrendous Bible study, the afterparty that Russell Moore and David French are pushing.

They're pushing this into churches all around America. And people think, oh, this looks like a good thing. It's astonishing to me that you have to push back against people that only a few years ago you thought were on the same page, and you realize, well, no. Yeah, exactly. But I was with George Barney yesterday, and Barnas said that so much of American preaching is, quote, happy talk. But if you look at the American Revolution, I mean, part of the reason the British fired on the church at Lexington was because in the revolutionary period, pastors were conscripting their men into Washington's continental army. And the pulpits were aflame with righteousness, as Tocqueville would say.

But what our country has to do, because on the... the stage of human history, look, you've had monarchies, you've had oligarchies. And along comes 250 years ago, this unique experiment that we would have a representative republic, but to be specific, a Judeo-Christian representative republic. Now, Satan doesn't like that. And Eric, I'm just going to be clear, Satan is real. We're in spiritual warfare. Why would America be in the crosshairs of Satan? Because we're a nation built on. godly principles, and for 200 years plus, America has absolutely been at the forefront of everything good and benevolent and virtuous and true around the world.

You'll get no argument for me. I mean, we have been without, and look, you always have to say this. Like, American governments and American leaders have made terrible mistakes, but by and large, there is zero question that America has been a force for good in the world. And we have done tremendous things. And that has not been taught. In our lifetimes in schools, they're not teaching that. They're not showing the amazing, I mean, did you know that we abolished slavery in America? You know, when you think about this stuff, that we have done so much in America and around the world and we're now facing, you know, to cut to the chase,

let's just say the forces of hell have America in their sights because America is the principal threat to tyranny, to globalist tyranny, to communist tyranny. And there's no doubt that we're in a war right now. And at the center of that war is the American church. If the American Church wakes up and does its job, America can be saved. But if the American Church sits on its hands and acts like that's not my job, we're going to go down the tubes and the whole world will suffer. Human beings will suffer because of the silence and passivity of the American Church. Exactly. Well said. Well said. You know, one year ago I was doing a speaking tour in Southwest Texas. I was all along the southern border. Eric, and I'm on the radio,

and I was promoting all these events. Well, I was in a number of churches where, you were, where, because this was about a three-week speaking trip through Southwest Texas, mayors of small Texas towns and law enforcement officials came to some of my events, many of whom are devout Christians, and they were telling me stories of the open border, people coming across the southern border, that some are apprehended because they've got an international rap sheet, a mile long, some trained in China jihadi camps. I honestly believe, and this is only one of a plethora of problems you and I can speak to, the forcible opening of southern and northern borders is intentional.

and is inviting criminals and hostile figures from other nations. It's mind-blowing, but you know, you were there, and you talk to the people who know this is really. real. You're making it up. You're not making it up. Eric, this is treasonous. I heard it from the mouths of law enforcement officers, sheriffs, mayors. I'm not going to name

the names, but look, I've talked to DAs and attorneys. These illegals come across the border. Besides just being indigent people, there have been people that they break the law and they get apprehended. And it turns out many of them are Middle Eastern males that are

jihadis. But here's the other thing. And this is real. My hand to God, what I'm telling you is real. And I talk to the people that know about this. In the southwest Texas towns, they said there would be vehicles with license plates from Missouri, St. Louis, Chicago, New York. Many of these illegals are being taken up into the interior of America. Now, Eric, I am not a conspiracy guy. I'm not. I mean, I'm a, you know, prove it to me. I, my default. position is somewhat skeptical. But this is one issue among many that we could address that the primary role of a government. And, you know, our founders believe that a government derives its legitimacy from righteous, just laws and the consent of the governed. And the role

of the president and the administration is to first and fundamentally protect the Constitution from threats within and without, but then the rights of the welfare of the citizens. And so I honestly believe that the open border and the hundreds of thousands of illegals that are coming in every month, this is intentional, it is not accidental. I have to agree.

It makes me sick, and it's incomprehensible, Alex, that this could be happening. It's just satanic to have an administration that is trying to bring harm to the nation. It's simply in... We've never had anything like this in our history. It's unbelievable. Well, these are persons in positions of authority.

I will not flatter them by calling them leaders, but there are elected officials that have been bought. There are elected officials that are in the hip pocket of foreign money. And it is tragic. It really is. And I just want to remind everybody, number one, And this might sound superficial and trite, but we can pray, and we must intercede for this nation. And because our nation was founded on biblical principles, because America has given the world unparalleled, heretofore unknown levels of liberty, prosperity, stability, safety, and millions of Christians that are beneficiaries of the American blessing have invested themselves in the Great Commission, ourselves included. We cannot let this die. Eric, we were preceded by those who fought and died at Valley Forge. That was not our battle, but now our battle is a different battle.

That's right. And I call on every person here is this broadcast, one and all, to pray, be informed, influence others, vote, and together for God's glory, and with his help, may this nation be preserved. I say that in the book that I've coming out in April, it's the sequel to The Letter of the American Church is called Religionless Christianity, God's Answer to Evil, and that's a Bonhoeffer phrase. But in that book, I say that we are in our third existential crisis as a nation. The first was the revolution.

The second was the civil war. We are now in the third existential crisis, and it's all hands on deck. If we do not fight with everything we have and pray with everything we have, because we are need the Lord to intervene, otherwise we're done. But if we don't do everything we can do, we will lose what Lincoln called the last best hope of earth. This nation has been used by God, and I actually don't think we've begun to see what God can do in using this nation for his purposes around the world. There are people all around the world looking to this nation. Why do people want to come to this nation, there has never been anything like it.

Do I have a minute to tell a story? Eric, as you may recall, I was a youth pastor for 11 years, and I was at a big church in North Carolina, and one of the older people I was doing visitation, and there was an older lady with a heavily pronounced German accent. This is 30 years ago. But I went, and I said, tell me your story. She said she grew up in Nazi Germany, and she said we were in a very small village, and We were terrified and we knew that the Germans, any voices of dissent were dealt with.

She said, my father had a tube radio hidden in the wall, and we would listen to Churchill at night. And she said, it is true story. She said, one day German soldiers kicked in our door, and she said, my little sister and I hid under a bed while Nazis raped my sister on the mattress. above us. She told these horrifying stories. She said, I got home from school one day, and the wall was burst open. My dad was gone. The tube radio was gone. We never saw my father again. And she said, but then one day we were living under this threat. She said, suddenly all the adults were in the streets, and we saw something coming over the hillside. And she said, grown men were weeping, and they were shouting, it's the Americans were saved. Now, she told me this story. I'm not really doing

at justice, but she said our village was liberated from the Nazis, and she said I'll never forget the adults as an American flag crested over the hill, we were saved. She later came to the States. Here's my point. The United

States has been the cup of cold water in Jesus' name. There's no doubt about it, folks. I know this is true because my mother has told me this. She grew up in Germany. We're at a time. Alex McFarland. Thank you, my friend. Blessings. Hey, the folks, welcome back.
