Starting point is 00:00:00 Folks, welcome to the Eric Mattaxas show, sponsored by Legacy Precious Metals. There's never been a better time to invest in precious metals. Visit legacy p.m.investments.com. That's legacy p.m. Investments.com. Welcome to the Eric Mataxis show. It's a nutritious smoothie of creamy, fresh yogurt, vanilla, vanilla, protein powder, and a mushy banana. For your mind? Drink it all down. It's nummy.
Starting point is 00:00:36 I wub, vanilla. I wub, wub, I wop, vanilla. Here comes Eric Metaxus. Yousa, Yousa, Yousa. Hey there, Chris Heimbs. Today's a big day for both of us. Yeah, big day. Why is it a big day?
Starting point is 00:00:53 It is a big day, ladies and gentlemen, because this is the last chance I get to tell you that tomorrow, February 8th, is the launch of letter to the American church, the film. Today is the last day you can pre-order the film. Today is the last day I can tell you to pre-order the film.
Starting point is 00:01:20 After today, you're just going to order it. And that's not the same as pre-ordering it. I really, I want to be clear, if I haven't been crystal clear, we need your help to launch this. You've heard me over the months talk about the subject of letter to the American church, interview people. on the same subject, talk about it. Even if I'm not talking about the book,
Starting point is 00:01:43 I'm talking about the idea of where we are in the nation and the state of the church. And my book, Letter to the American Church, was written to wake up the church. And we have a study guide with it. If you order the book, you can order the study guide with it to study it in a small group. And I hope you will.
Starting point is 00:02:07 but tomorrow the film version, Letter to the American Church, is launched. We need your help with the launch. So let me say that letter to the American church.com is the website where you can find everything related to the film. We have, I think, 100 or more churches now signed up. to do free screenings, but that's a drop in the bucket. I know that many, many, many, many churches, including your churches, will be doing free screenings. As soon as we have the information, we will put it up on the website, letter to the American church.com, because we want, we want this message to go far and
Starting point is 00:02:56 wide, but we need your help in launching this tomorrow. So you can get the DVDs that. Now, you can get it. You can download it and watch it on your computer, obviously. If you go to Letter the American Church.com, you can see it there. But if you feel like, no, I'd like the DVD, that's available. Chris Heimes, you made that possible. Did you not?
Starting point is 00:03:22 I did. I did. There were some digital Ruppel Stiltskins that are still burning, you know, they're still burning the DVDs as we speak. They'll be ready in a week or so, but you can order them today. So that's up. Are they made in a cauldron? Is that the idea?
Starting point is 00:03:38 Or did Rumpel Stolskine actually know? He spun straw into gold. Wasn't that the idea? Yeah, these are actually Elon Musk-powered AI robot elves that are pressing them with where they have silicon feet that are impervious to high temperature. Isn't that a beautiful thing? Okay. So if you want a DVD, folks, if you want to own a DVD of letters,
Starting point is 00:04:04 to the American Church, the film, which is, it's a great film. I didn't make it, but I'm in it. You can, you can order it, letter to the American church.com, but we want this to launch big tomorrow. So what we're hoping is that tomorrow or obviously tomorrow's the eighth or on the ninth or on the 10th that you would do a launch party, just invite some friends over, friends from your church, neighbors, whatever, and watch it. Again, you can pre-order it today, the download, and then tomorrow you'll be able to watch it. February 8th is the official release date. But we want it to launch big, and you are the folks to whom I appeal for that. So today, if you would, please, just go to letter to the Americanchurch.com and do what you can there.
Starting point is 00:05:02 I also want to say to folks, you know, please be the person that asks your pastor or whomever to do a free screening of this at the church. We want my attitude at this point is that if your church is not interested in a free screening of this film, then I want to know why you're interested in the church because it's literally free. it does not cost anything. And it hopes to provoke people, frankly, to biblical thinking on these issues. This is not, you know, just some point of view. It's meant to be biblical thinking to push us in the way that Bonhofer tried to push the German church to think biblically. And they pretty much refused.
Starting point is 00:05:53 They were religious. They said, we're just doing church. We're not going to, we don't want to go there. And, you know, his attitude is like, well, it's biblical. to go there. This is God's will. And they said, well, we're not interested right now. Or maybe we'll be interested next year, but, you know, right now. And we know what happened. So this is, the film is made as a tool for you and your churches to understand what God says about political involvement, about cultural involvement, about his will for us. And we just hope
Starting point is 00:06:28 you'll avail yourself of these tools. So let us. to the American Church.com is the website where everything is there. And really, I'll say it again, this is, this is it. Today's the last day. We get to tell you this stuff, to pre-order it. I hope that it launches well tomorrow. We need it to. And so we ask you to do what you can, letter to the American church.com. I haven't said a word about my guest today. Oh, my gosh. I should have opened up with that. I'm sorry. I apologize. My guest, guest in both hours today. Absolutely fantastic guest. What a joy it was yesterday to interview China Phillips. Some of you know China. She is, you know, a big deal. She's the daughter of rock
Starting point is 00:07:17 royalty. She's herself part of rock royalty. She's one of the members of Wilson Phillips. Many of you listening are familiar with Wilson Phillips. She's a profound Christian. And I'll be talking to her in both hours today about her life. California preaching. Her faith. California preaching, California healing. But it was also fun to talk to her, just a lot of fun. I talked to her about Mama Cass, whom she knew personally.
Starting point is 00:07:49 So that's both hours today. We're talking to her. And it was just, it was just fun. Oh, here's something else. I don't want to forget. We got a lot of exciting guests. coming up the rest of the week. But tomorrow I will be in Seattle. I'm flying to Seattle tonight. And we're doing a Socrates in the city event talking about C.S. Lewis tomorrow night, February 8th.
Starting point is 00:08:13 So the same day that Letter to the American Church launches tomorrow February 8th, I will be in Seattle doing a Socrates in the city event. If you want to live stream it, if you want to watch it live, you have to be a member of Socrates Plus. All of the Socrates events, including the Socrates in the studios, which we're doing February 9th. I'm filming two Socrates in the studios. And we got way more of those coming up. All of them will be live streamed at Socrates Plus. You won't be able to see them unless you're a member of Socrates Plus.
Starting point is 00:08:49 It's a very nominal fee, as you'll see. But please go to Socratesin the city.com. And again, today's the day because if you're not a member of Socrates Plus, you can't get access to the live stream. You can't sign up at the last minute. You have to be a member. So please do that. And again, if you are a member, everything is free. And I'm just talking about the live streaming.
Starting point is 00:09:10 If you're member of Socrates Plus, you get everything else. But the live streaming is included. And I'm really looking forward to the event tomorrow night at the Rainier Club in Seattle. If you're in Seattle, I believe there are tickets left, or if you can get to Seattle tomorrow night. It's exciting. We're going to have a patrons dinner afterward. I'll be exhausted because it's on Pacific time. But I'm really looking forward to it. That's tomorrow night. February 29th, we have James O'Keefe in Manhattan, April 5th in Charleston, South Carolina. We have my very dear friend, Mark Helprin. I cannot wait for that. He is. He's the proverbial next level to use a cliche.
Starting point is 00:09:57 So anyway, but so Socrates in the city for Socrates Plus, please sign up for that. And please, folks, letter to the Americanchurch.com, help us. Big push for tomorrow. Please pre-order letter to the American church.com is the website. For 10 years, Patriot Mobile has been America's only Christian conservative wireless provider. Starting point is 00:12:18 And we're back. I am talking to China, Phillips, China, C.H. NNA. Correct. Not to be confused with North Vietnam, Phillips, who doesn't exist. Okay, so we were talking about this, you have this YouTube channel, California Preaching, and your parents wrote a song called California Dreamin, and you started these groups called California Heelan. Well, it's one, California Heelan is one ministry. Right.
Starting point is 00:12:52 But underneath the umbrella of California Heelan are five. groups currently. Okay. And there are spots left in these groups. There are spots. Yes. There are spots left. You're funny. You're, you are, you crack me up. Now listen, I, um, the, uh, the other day, this is really crazy. This is really crazy. I, uh, I, I love pop music mostly from the 70s, right? Like, like that's when, you know, you're kind of imprinted. Oh, you're imprinted to the choir. You're imprinted. So like I'm, I was like seven years old. eight years old, like listening to like the Partridge family. And it's like just imprinted, you know, on you like that, what you like.
Starting point is 00:13:33 Not what I would have expected you to say. Exactly. Exactly. And that's why it's so funny to me, right? So like, so a lot of that really poppy kind of stuff just appeals to me. Yeah. And but what's interesting, I mean, you've talked about the Partridge family. All of those songs were written by like the greatest songwriters of that. They were hired, right? You know, it's kind of like the monkeys. Like they didn't, you know, they hired great songwriters.
Starting point is 00:13:56 to write great pop hits or whatever. So some of that stuff. But so there's something also about, you know, the age that I was in 1972 or whatever, that you're, it really does sort of imprint you. And so I hear music sometimes, like, you know, listening to Apple Music or whatever and something will come in. And it's really rare that you hear something new, right?
Starting point is 00:14:16 Because you've always, you've all already heard all the songs that were hits that you know. But sometimes because of, you know, Apple Music algorithm or something, like it'll shoot something at you. Yeah. And I don't know. You'll see. I'm just kidding.
Starting point is 00:14:34 No, this is literally, this is literally the day before my dad passed. I was in Dallas doing something in Dallas. And somehow I find Mama Cass's song, now in case people don't know, Mama Cass was Cass Elliott. In The Mamas and the Pappas. and a song that she did, which was a huge hit, which I'd heard before, I have to look on my phone to remember what it was. But it was so... Timely.
Starting point is 00:15:07 Make your own kind of music. Yes. And I heard that song, and it just transported me. I was like, what a great stinking song. Did you cry? Maybe. But... But it's such a beautiful song.
Starting point is 00:15:24 It is. But it reminded me of that era. And there's an innocence there. Because, you know, when we think of the 60s and we kind of think of like the dark sexual side or whatever, but there was also this tremendous innocence in some of these songs. And she had such a beautiful voice. And a vulnerability. Yes, yes.
Starting point is 00:15:44 And but that music, make your own kind of music, I thought, what an amazing. There's something about that that it just kind of speaks. Now, you knew her. Yes, I did. And I'm so sorry for the loss of your father. Oh, well, listen, it was the Lord's timing. I've said this on the program before. God was in it. And of course, you're sad, but I'm not sad where he is. I praise the Lord. Like, that's the greatest thing conceivable. Yeah. But yeah, but I mean, it was, I just remember it was the day before that because I was in Dallas that I heard this. And shame on me. I was like, where's this going? Yeah, right? Well, no, no, no. Actually, my dad died. Yeah, well, yeah, I threw that in. No, no, but it was just like so, it's just a beautiful song. But I bring it up just because it dawned on me. I don't know if it was that day or I thought, my goodness, my friend China knew Cass Elliott,
Starting point is 00:16:35 this legend, Mama Cass. Yeah, I have many memories of her, actually. One of the most vivid was when she had broken her leg. And I remember she was just wearing this cast. Cass was in a cast, and she walked into her house. And I just remember being really taken aback. that she had a cast on her leg, yeah, there's a deeper story to that, because I actually had a cast on my leg, too.
Starting point is 00:16:58 I did, I did when I was young, and I had a tumor in my left leg that had to be removed. But I just remember being like, wow, she has a cast on. And it was just, she's just her presence. I mean, she had such a strong presence, you know. Well, she was, I mean, I think, you know, I love discovery, obviously I love discovering things. And when you discover somebody, like I always, my whole life I've known who Mama Cass was, but like to realize what an outrageous talent she had, you know, and then to be listening to some of her solo hits, right? Yeah. And just, it was just so beautiful. But then, as I said,
Starting point is 00:17:33 I realized like, wow, you actually knew her. And only, what, a year ago, or what was it, this last year, that she got a star on the Hollywood. She did. Yeah, we were all there. We all celebrated it. And boy, was it overdue. I mean, I was like, Cass doesn't have a star on the walk of the Hollywood fan. It was just, I was perplexed by that. I mean, I guess what closed my mind is, and again, this is, as you get older, like time, you think, this is, we're talking
Starting point is 00:18:00 50 years ago was when, you know, she passed, right? Like 50, 50. Yes. And her daughter, Owen, is coming out with a beautiful book, and it has the most simple, most perfect title. It couldn't be any better. The title is
Starting point is 00:18:17 My Mama Cass. Wow. Right? Is that, I can't write a book with that title. Like chills. It's so cool. Well, and so right. So, and I didn't even know that she had a daughter until, I guess I watched, you did something over the Hollywood, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, you know, when she got that star and so and so forth. But you just start thinking like, it can't be 50 years.
Starting point is 00:18:46 Like it just can't be. I know. It doesn't make any sense. And also, Cass, let me see. Sean Cassidy was my very first concert. What was your very first concert? Sean Cassidy. Well, you said Partridge Family.
Starting point is 00:18:59 Yeah. Did you like Sean Cassidy? Don't even pretend like you didn't. No, no, I didn't like Sean Cassidy. I liked, no, I didn't like Sean Cassidy. I liked... A dude Ron, Run, Run. No, I liked David Cassidy.
Starting point is 00:19:11 Oh, David Cassidy was great. I met David Cassidy just a few years ago, obviously, before he passed. But, no, it's just such a weird thing. these memories you have from so long ago and what you like. I know. It just struck me that you knew her and she was just an outrageous
Starting point is 00:19:30 talent and it was such a different time. Well, she and my mother were the best of friends. I know. No, that's what I'm saying. Like I said, because as I was listening to her music, I thought, I've just got to ask you about her because I, you know, I don't know too many people that knew her personally.
Starting point is 00:19:48 So it was just an amazing. thing. But she died in 74, right? I believe so. Why do you think it took nearly 50 years for her? Okay, you said you remember the day. I do. Yeah. I mean, that was like a shock for the world. It was a shock. But she was a friend. My mom was at the commissary at Paramount, and she was having lunch, and one of her friends walked up to her and said, Michelle, I have some really terrible news for you.
Starting point is 00:20:14 Cass died, and she literally almost passed out. And then she went outside and sat under a tree and just bawled her eyes out for hours. And then, yeah, and then the funeral was a couple days later. And she, I mean, was she in ill health? Like, I don't, I don't even remember, like, that she was. You'll have to read it in the, in Owen's book, because I don't want to comment. I'm not really sure. But she definitely didn't choke on a ham sandwich. I'll tell you that. Oh, no, I know. I know. I know. Isn't that horrible? Yeah. The horrible things. But, and when's, when's her daughter's book coming out? I don't know the exact date, but it's very soon.
Starting point is 00:20:49 But you can get an advanced copy on Amazon. Well, I'm doing a TV show now. Maybe we'll have her on the show sometimes. Yes, you should. Because, you know, I love talking about this kind of stuff. It's just, it's so cool. But I didn't know that she had a daughter until I watched your show. And then, and her granddaughter.
Starting point is 00:21:05 Yeah, yeah. Who looks. It's uncanny. She's a dead ringer. Yeah. That's like weird. Like what? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:11 And when she goes, walks into stores and stuff, people will say to her, has anyone ever told you you look like Cass Elliott? She's like, it's actually my grandmother. That's the weirdest thing ever. Yeah. Zoe's a great girl. So how does it, I mean, so for you, you know, you were raised in that world. You said your mother was in the commissary.
Starting point is 00:21:28 Was she doing? She was acting already by then? Right, yes. What was she doing? I didn't know that. I don't know what she was doing at that time. Yeah. My mom's been acting for a long time.
Starting point is 00:21:36 Obviously. Yeah. So, but growing up in like, you know, Hollywood family, in whatever, how did that, how did that affect your ability? to walk with God or how, you know, in other words, where were you in those years before, you know, you hit your 30s when, when God gets a hold of you? Well, I often relay this story about my conversion to Christianity, you know, because I was only 12 years old. And it was sort of a fluke because I'd stolen a chocolate milk off the tray in the cafeteria at this Baptist school that I was
Starting point is 00:22:14 attending, which is a whole other story. It's crazy that I even ended up at a Baptist school. but I did. And I was at this Baptist school. I stole a milk, and the next day these girls came up to me, and I was, like, digging in my backpack, trying to grab a quarter to, like, pay them back because I knew why they were approaching me. And I was like, here, here's your money.
Starting point is 00:22:32 And they were like, no, no, no, no, no, we don't want your money. We just want to know if you'd like to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. What? And I was like, oh, my gravy. What have I gotten myself in now? I'd rather pay them. Now I'd rather pay them. And wait, so you were 12?
Starting point is 00:22:45 I was 12. Okay, this is what in show business is called. A cliffhanger. We'll be right back. Yeah. Tell me why Relief Factor is so successful at lowering or eliminating pain. I'm often asked that question just the other night. I was asked that question.
Starting point is 00:23:20 Well, the owners of Relief Factor tell me they believe our bodies were designed to heal. That's right. Designed to heal. And I agree with them. And the doctors who formulated Relief Factor for them selected the four best ingredients, yes, 100% drug-free ingredients. ingredients and each one of them helps your body deal with inflammation. Each of the four ingredients deals with inflammation from a different metabolic pathway. That's the point. So approaching from
Starting point is 00:23:44 four different angles may be why so many people find such wonderful relief. Starting point is 00:25:04 Again, Neutrametics, N-U-T-R-A-M-E-D-I-X. Nutrametics.com, use the code Eric for 15% off. Welcome back, talking to China Phillips. And we're talking about your early years and your life of crime. Stealing a chocolate milk at age 12. Yes. And the Lord hunted you down. Yep.
Starting point is 00:25:33 And so, yeah, what happened then? So these girls... So they dragged me down to the girls' bathroom with the salvation card. And they basically huddled all around me. It wasn't awkward at all. And they gave me the card and they were like, just read the words. And so I started to read the words. Of course, I was expecting absolutely nothing to happen.
Starting point is 00:25:55 And suddenly, as I was reading the words, I felt a holy scan start to take place. And it started at the crown of my head and went all the way down to the souls of my feet. And as the scan was happening, I felt deliverance taking place. I actually felt my grief, my heartache, my abandonment, my pain, my insecurities, all just be washed away. It gives me the chills.
Starting point is 00:26:23 And by the very end, after I said the words, I was in a paralyzed state. I could not speak. And the girls were like, are you okay? didn't answer them. I just sort of looked around. They laughed at me and they walked out of the bathroom. They couldn't wait to get away from me. So they, so first of all, I want to meet these girls. This is like next level of angelism. I love this. That they grab you. They grab you down. Yeah. To read this thing. And so you were in your heart obviously open to this. You're not, you're not mocking this. You're doing it, right? Well, I wasn't mocking it. I just didn't. I honestly,
Starting point is 00:27:00 truly did not expect anything to happen. And I did have a housekeeper that was Catholic that used to pray over me and put holy water on me when I was sick. And she used to light all of her, you know, candles of Mary and stuff. So I thought that was kind of interesting that she was so into Jesus.
Starting point is 00:27:17 But I never got the encounter. But the fact that you were willing to go along with this, no, there's a lot of people could have just said, nah, nah, like, no thanks. But you went with these girls at age 12. What was I going to do? I don't know. What was I going to say to them?
Starting point is 00:27:33 Riggle away. You know, here, no, just take my money. Like, I don't know. I just felt like, sure, I mean, you know, I actually was somewhat intrigued. I thought, well, this is kind of interesting. What girls my age would ever do something like so bold, so brazen. It's beautiful. But beautiful.
Starting point is 00:27:49 And so I want to meet these girls. But this gets back to your question. Let's check them down. But this gets back to your question. So then I go home that day and, you know, there's roaches in the ashtray and there's half glasses of wine. Roaches, not bugs. No bibles.
Starting point is 00:28:02 We're talking about we. Mary Jane, hemp. No Bibles to be found anywhere. And so I was really at a loss. I was like, I've got this Holy Spirit living inside of me now. I knew it was true because I felt like a new creation. That was a miracle. I mean, what you just described, that you're reading these words and the Holy Spirit
Starting point is 00:28:22 touches you in this palpable way. And you can feel healing happen. Talk about California Heelan. You could feel it. And a lot of people don't get this gift from God. This is a real gift. It was a beautiful thing. It was absolutely undeniable.
Starting point is 00:28:37 So it really happened. So I took Jesus off the shelf with Santa because that's where he had been my whole life. I mean, it was like Santa Claus and Jesus were the same. I just never made a distinction. Like for me, they were one and the same. Christmas was like Santa and Jesus, but they were all the same. Did you tell your parents? No.
Starting point is 00:28:56 I was actually mortified to tell my mom. Because when I- They'd throw you out of the house. I begged her to send me to the Baptist school because I was getting my butt kicked at the public school that I was at. So I was like, please get me out of that school. And she was like, the only school in walking distance because I'm not driving you to school. I love my mom. She's so funny. She was like, I'm not driving you to school.
Starting point is 00:29:12 So you're going to have to go to that Baptist school up the street. And they're going to talk about 666. They're going to talk about Satan. And so if you want to hear all that, and I was like, yes, I'll take it. So that's how I ended up at the Baptist school. Yeah. Isn't that funny? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:25 God using these different things? Totally. That's so amazing. So, yeah, so you come home after this Holy Spirit experience. And, you know, your parents are part of the 60s drug culture and rock and roll. Yeah. And so you, it seems like, drifted away from this. I inevitably, I can't say the word.
Starting point is 00:29:46 I inevitably got into drugs, you know, alcohol, permiscuity, shoplifting. I continued the stealing. And I really was lost. I mean really, really lost. And I got sober when I was 19. That's when I wrote, hold on. And that was all about holding on for one more day. And I really turned my life around.
Starting point is 00:30:10 You know, I owe a lot to Alcoholics Anonymous because even though they don't preach the word of God, it was sort of a backdoor for me into knowing God. It's a backdoor for a lot of people into knowing God. Because it was founded by Christians. It's all biblical stuff. Exactly. I mean, you know, Bill Wilson had a very powerful spiritual experience with the Lord. And he just like,
Starting point is 00:30:28 seven blocks up from where we are right now, it's the church and the whole. Okay, so, I mean, it's interesting because it is very similar to my story. I had this Jesus encounter when I was 12 and it was real. And then I just drifted away because I went home. There was no like roach clips in my parents' house. But you know what? You don't need to have drug paraphernalia to avoid God. It's just, you know, you just go to church, but it wasn't like real for us. Yeah. And so I just drifted away. And God got a hold of me later. But it just so, so, so beautiful that you had that palpable encounter because you hear people talk about this. Yeah, it was an encounter. And I think there, I think there are a lot of people who they're Christians,
Starting point is 00:31:08 but they don't believe in that stuff. Like they get uncomfortable by the Holy Spirit. Well, they haven't had the encounter. Because once you've had the encounter, people constantly say to me, ad nauseum, China, how do you have the boldness to go out and talk about Jesus the way you do? And for me, it's like, how could I not? If you have that encounter, what, how? How do you? How do you? How do you? How? How do you, How could, nothing's going to put a muzzle on me now because I know that Jesus is Lord and I know that he is the one who put my beating heart in my chest. So how am I not? For me, you know, I feel like nothing is going to get in the way of my career because Jesus is in control of my career now. So if I'm not supposed to be in Hollywood because I'm talking about Jesus, then so be it.
Starting point is 00:31:50 I'm not going to stop talking about Jesus. So you're one of those people who believes this crazy stuff. I'm right there with you. It's the only way to fly, folks. Starting point is 00:34:07 Go to Pragetopia.com or click the banner at Dennis Prager.com. I'm talking to China Phillips. So China, we're talking on all this different stuff. I didn't tell you so once I was listening to Mama Cass's song, Make Your Own Kind of Music, which just like, I love when I discover a song that I haven't heard in years and years and years ago. And so I just listen to it over and over and over. Like an idiot. Who would think that I'm doing that?
Starting point is 00:34:45 And I don't care because there's such an innocence to it. But then there was another song that I found, which, you know, because people put out albums and not every song is like, you know, the one. But the other song that I found was if you're going to break another heart. Just listen to the beginning. This is just too good. That was ahead of its time. It's just so beautiful. Somebody should cover that.
Starting point is 00:35:44 I'm going to cover it. There should be a contemporary version of that. I'll cover it with you. Yeah. I'm not kidding. No, let's do it. There's certain times you hear a song, you go, that is so, like, and the funny thing, too, is like, like, I'm thinking of how I would want to update it.
Starting point is 00:35:56 Yes. Just a little bit. I mean, I hear it already. But it's got this great, do, do, do, it's just beautiful. It's just beautiful. It's amazing. So I don't have a studio, otherwise I would have already covered it. But, no, it's just, there's an innocence to it.
Starting point is 00:36:09 And I think a lot of times, you know, when people are thinking about music or whatever, you think, why does something appeal to me? Why does something appeal? And everybody's different. But there was an innocence that to some extent has been lost. You think? Yeah. And so that period in the 70s, even listening to Eagles songs sometimes, you know,
Starting point is 00:36:31 that there's something about it. It's a different kind of thing. But you obviously grew up in that world. And I want to circle back to where you are now. So you're still making music. Yes. Making your own kind of music. Yes, I'm making my own kind of music.
Starting point is 00:36:49 Yeah, I actually just wrote a song last year that I'm really excited about. I think I'm going to do a soft launch on TikTok with this song. So that's something to look forward to. A soft launch on TikTok? Yeah. Yeah. I'm going to shoot kind of like a quasi-cozy music video. video for it. Okay. But yeah, so you're still making your own kind of music and you've brought
Starting point is 00:37:16 Jesus into it. I have. Part of the way you're making your own kind of music is through California preaching and through California healing, which again, I want to say, like, it's just a wonderful thing. People have a hunger for this kind of community. Yeah. And a lot of people just think, oh, I go to church on Sunday and, you know, no, you're supposed to live 24-7 in a... Well, yeah, and what I can add to that, is that we also read the Bible out loud every single morning. Of course, it's not, you know, it's not obligatory. If you want to do it, you can. It's optional. And if you don't do it, you're not cast into outer darkness? You're not on Calhill probation. No, but it's really cool. We read
Starting point is 00:37:56 out of the Old Testament for 15 minutes and then out of the New Testament for 15 minutes, and then we reflect on our reading. So the whole thing's about an hour, but like I said, people, you know, people pop on, they pop off, but there's usually about 15, to 16 ladies every single morning on this word feast. And it's what we call it. So this is a Zoom thing? No, that's on WhatsApp. So a lot of the community is communication through WhatsApp. Okay. The app. Yeah. And then they can join the word feast call every single morning through WhatsApp. Okay. So it's a phone call. Yes. And then we also meet once a week, you know, live on a Zoom.
Starting point is 00:38:32 So there's a lot of community going on. We also have pray slays during the week where we pray for one another. Would you call it? Prayslay. And then we have fireside chats where we all gather together on a Zoom with faces, very casual, you know, a time just to chat and catch up and get to know each other. It's a getting to know you. And what time, eastern time or west? All the meetings are at different times. So if you are on the Saturday group and Promises or the Sunday group or Victoria Jackson's group, which is on Thursday nights at 7. There's no openings in Victoria's group. There are three openings in Victoria's group. Yes. There are. And then there are a bunch in the Saturday group and a couple in the Thursday group. How many women listen to this program? Like a zillion, I think you may have some takers. That's kind of cool. That is so cool. Well, we'd love to have them. Well, look, I really mean it. And, you know, community is central.
Starting point is 00:39:28 And a lot of people, they have a very cerebral faith, and that's not God. Jesus wants us to have, you know, an experiential. faith. The encounter. Because you can talk to anybody, you know, until they're blue in the face about, you know, about Jesus. But if you don't have the encounter, it's about planting that seed, scattering the seed. I'm constantly scattering the seed. And then you see what takes. You know what I mean? But you pray that people are going to have their encounter. And, oh, one last thing. I'm launching another California Heelan group in April called Sanctuary. We haven't nailed down the exact date. or time, but if anyone is interested in joining sanctuary, they can go to the California Heelan official Instagram and learn more about it, or they can go to California Heel. Sorry, California Preaching.com,
Starting point is 00:40:21 and they can go to the California Heel and drop down and join that waiting, the wait list. I think you're going to have some problems because, you know, when this gets out, a lot of people are going to be in-john. No, really. That would be a good problem to have. That would be a luxury problem. Right. That's exactly right. Well, it's just amazing that God is using you in this way. It's kind of cool. You didn't see this years ago, right? You're just like doing your thing. I didn't see it, but I did pray for it. I did pray for it. I really, really wanted to do something for the kingdom of God. And I was really, it was a conundrum because I was like, hmm, I don't really see myself as one of those people to go on the front lines mission trips. It just, because I'm a very, I'm a gentle little delicate flower, Eric. And I just, I don't have it. and me to like be a soldier and like go out onto the front lines. So I needed to do something that
Starting point is 00:41:10 was a little more remote. But you're still on the, you are on the front lines. This worked for me. And it was like the perfect little, you know, niche for me. Well, God's using it. It's just fantastic. I love it. Thank you. Absolutely love it. And I'm so glad you're in the studio in New York. It just, it's always different when it's in person. It always is. Although I feel like I know you so well. Well, I know. But until today, you thought I was like six foot four. And it turns out. out. I used to be, but I'm not anymore. You're taller than I expected. Well, I don't know what the heck that means. We're going to edit that out. I feel like I've just been really dissed. Well, China Phillips, God bless you, sister. People need to go to California Preachin.com. Check out California
Starting point is 00:41:51 Healien. And don't forget. And California Preaching YouTube channel. Yes, and the YouTube channel, California Preaching. Thank you. Thank you, China. God bless you. Thank you. God bless you. This has been such a gift. Folks, welcome back. I'm talking to Robert Netsley right now. who is with Inspire investing. Robert, I can't help but get excited about what you've created an opportunity for people to find out if their money is funding wicked things. If they have money in a 401k or retirement, whatever it is, that is invested in companies
Starting point is 00:42:45 that are doing evil things, that is promoting pornography, promoting abortion, promoting any number of things or ideologies with your money, folks. Robert Nestle has created something where you can get a free report that tells you where your money is, and they will help you get your money into companies that are doing good things. So you have to go to InspireAdvisors.com slash Eric. InspireAdvisors.com slash Eric, you get a free report. But this is something I, you know, Robert, I guess it just gives me hope that it's possible to turn things around in America. because when I think of how much money people have invested out there,
Starting point is 00:43:29 if they would understand what's going on and shift that money to good stuff, it's just huge. It's just absolutely monstrous. It's enormous. It's enormous. And we are seeing fruit from that labor. It's remarkable. It doesn't have to even be trillions of dollars to change things.
Starting point is 00:43:47 I've been on the phone, you know, in recent weeks, you know, with investor relations and CFOs and whatnot. We regularly engage. with companies that we invest in or are like to invest in or kind of just speaking biblical truth, the corporate power. And, you know, one of the things we hear is often that, number one, these people have never heard, they tell us they've never heard from a faith-based investor before. They've been doing their job for 20, 30 years, you know, executive, major organizations
Starting point is 00:44:13 never heard from a faith-based investor. So number one, they need to hear our voice. Number two, they're thankful to hear it. Even in some of these sort of, you know, woke businesses, you think that this don't care, there are people in those businesses of influence that actually do care about what we have to say and oftentimes have enough influence to change things. So, for instance, Costco stopped giving money to gay pride parades. Chevron stopped giving money to Planned Parenthood.
Starting point is 00:44:37 There's a laundry list of other organizations that have changed things. That is unbelievable. Robert Nelson, that is unbelievable. It is so wonderful. I want to tell people, folks, what you do and don't do, you can change the world if you take an interest in this. When I hear that a company like Costco would stop giving money to something like that or Chevron, these are huge, huge companies. And you shop there, your money may be invested there.
Starting point is 00:45:06 When we get involved in these things, we can change the world. So I want to say the action point is go to invest. I'm sorry, inspireadvisors.com slash Eric. Inspireadvisors.com slash Eric. you'll get a free report that will help you figure this out. And I know, Robert, that you guys will help people if they want to transition to invest in companies that believe in their values. But this is a gigantic thing that we have, I mean, it's to me scandalous when we have power and we don't use that power. It's like when I say, I'm not going to vote.
Starting point is 00:45:47 I'm not going to do this. I'm not going to do that. When you don't do those things, people who don't share your value, who share opposite, who have opposite values, they're going to prevail. So I just want to say to you, Robert, thank you for taking this on, because it is game-changing. Like you said, it's a movement. The more people that do this, it's an amazing thing when we think of the money that is out there, that many people of faith with traditional values have invested in woke companies.
Starting point is 00:46:20 Ladies and gentlemen, you've got to do something about it. You've just got to do something about it. This is like a mandate that we've got to live our faith out in every sphere and where your money is. That's a big deal. So please go to InspireAdvisors.com slash Eric. This is a free report. InspireAdvisors.com slash Eric. Robert Natsley, thank you.
Starting point is 00:46:46 Pleasure. Thank you, Eric.
