Welcome to the Eric Metaxus show.
I shouldn't tell you this, but Eric hired someone who sounds just like him to host today's show.
But since I'm the announcer, they told me, so I'm telling you, don't be fooled.
The real Eric's in jail.
Hey there, folks. Welcome to the program. Today, my guest is not Jordan Peterson.
Close enough. It's Dogg. The Bounty Hunter. Dog, welcome.
Thank you, sir.
I have, since I met you about a year and a half ago, I thought, I can't wait to get you in the studio to talk to you.
I didn't even know that you were a man of faith. I was excited when I learned that.
And I said, I want to get you to talk about it. And you have a new book talking about that.
Yes, sir. Called Nine Lives and Counting.
Are you calling me, yes, sir? It's like you're about to.
arrest me or I'm not arrest you. You're very respectful? Yes, sir. But then I feel like I ought to call
you, sir. Well, I'll call you brother. And you want me to call you Doug. No, you want me to call you dog,
not Dwayne, but dog. I'll call you brother. Well, I would, yeah, well, we are brothers. And that's,
that's what gets me excited. I was, I remember the day that I met you, I thought I was having an
acid trip. I've never dropped acid. But I was in, it was Hank Cooneman's Church in, in Omaha.
Okay.
And I remember two days before Mike Lindell had been like the FBI came and confiscated his phones.
And I was wondering what was going on with Mike.
And I walk into the green room.
And there's Mike Lindell, my friend.
And I was excited to see him.
And he's talking to Dutch Sheets, who's a hero.
I had not met him.
So I was so excited to get to meet Dutch Sheets.
And he's talking to my friend, Mike Lindel.
It was just this crazy thing.
And then I turn around.
And In Walk's dog.
the bounty hunter. And I thought, I think I'm tripping. This can't be happening. Like, if it had been
Sasquatch or Santa Claus, I would have been no less surprised. And it was just a joy to meet you
and to find out that you're a man of faith. And I've been waiting about, it's been quite a while
since then until now. But congratulations on the book. Thank you, sir. And I want to hear your
story. So this is, let's start at the beginning, because there's a lot of people know you,
but some people don't know you. So I just want to, I just want to,
want to talk about your story. Let's talk about your career as a bounty hunter. Before we get into
the faith and you're growing up and everything like that, how does somebody get into a career as a
bounty hunter? What is a bounty hunter for folks who don't know? A lot of questions at once.
Yeah, yeah. Start with that one. A bounty hunter is someone who hunts down fugitives and is paid
a fee after the capture. Right. How do you get into that? You don't. You don't. It should,
There were two bounty hunters when I started in 1980.
One was Popper Thorn, and of course the other one was me.
There was only two?
Two.
So this is not a popular thing?
There's tons of bounty hunters out there?
It wasn't back then.
Now there's $6,500.
Aha.
Okay.
So when you got started, you said it was 1980?
Yes.
How in the world did you get started doing this?
I mean, what, you know?
Ready?
Yeah.
So I was a raised assembly of God.
Yeah.
My mother was in Denver, Colorado.
Uh-huh.
My mother was the fourth or fifth generation of women preachers.
Uh, so I was raised, like, really strict.
I sang specials.
Mom played the organ and the accordion, and I played the tambourine.
and every other Wednesday from about eight or nine years old,
I would start off the Wednesday service by giving a testimony
because it was always miraculous things have always happened to my life
and the preacher would get like the spirit would come in and say,
tell us about what happened.
My mother would just put me up there and away I went.
So then my father was very, very, very physical, beat me.
and not in the face and all that I wish he would have,
but I'd have to pull my pants down, even in front of my sisters,
bend over the couch, and he would wail on me.
And I couldn't shower in school and all that because I had complete wells.
Now, was your father a Christian?
He thought this was okay?
When he died, he was.
But when he was doing this, he was not.
No, he wasn't.
He was, my sister called him a dry alcoholic, whatever that is.
So he, now he, in his defense, was strapped up in the shed by my grandpa,
and they used the things you sharpen a razor on, a strap.
A strap, yeah.
And him and his brothers would be beat like that.
So using a board on me, he made a board especially, was a lot he thought better than how he was raised.
And so at about 13, my grandpa, my mom's dad was a Christian,
and about 13, I got sick of the beatings and I pulled a knife on him.
And I told him, you're done.
Don't touch me.
My dad was a heavyweight boxer champion in the Navy.
So he started to come up me and I told him, I will cut you.
And so he threw all my clothes, busted the windows in the bedroom,
threw all the clothes out of the street.
And my mom told my grandpa, come get him right now.
So I left home.
and all of a sudden everybody in authority was my enemy.
I hated cops.
I called them pigs.
I hated anybody in authority.
I quit school in the seventh grade.
I can't read still today.
My fancy reads to me, and other people do too.
I just completely went crazy.
So at 15, I would go to concerts,
and I would see these guys that were very respected,
and they all had black leather jackets on,
and the back said Hell's Angels.
And I thought, whoa, man, these guys, everybody moves out of their way.
All the girls love them.
They got these choppers.
It's really cool.
So at 15 years old, I joined the Devil's Disciples, which is a sister club to the Hell's Angels.
And my mother, of course, would say, you know, son, why do you join the Hells or the Devil's disciples?
I said, Mom, it's not spelled the same way as disciples.
as it was. She'd go, whatever, it's still the same. So 15 years old, I became the sergeant of arms at a fake ID.
Back then, we bought him cheap to say I was 19. And I became the sergeant of arms, a national chapter of the devil's disciples.
And so this is a motorcycle gang. This is that motorcycle 1% outlaw club. What year, what years are we talking about? Is the late 60s, early 70s?
Late 60s, correct. Yeah. Yeah.
So then, fast forward, I moved to Texas, and we were...
You're not exactly walking with God at this point.
Oh, no, I was completely evil.
You're completely evil.
So I was not...
I wasn't evil, but I was mean.
No demons came in, but they were hovering around me.
Yeah.
I wasn't demon possessed.
I was demon oppressed.
Yeah.
And so at 15, I'm 33.5% Apache, and we get nicknames.
At 15, bikers gave you nicknames.
It gave all the club.
So the president brought me in, and he said, you always pray before you eat because some of the food they ate.
You still did that.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
I wasn't completely turning my back on God, just three quarters of the way.
Yeah.
So at 15, he said, sit down.
We're going to, you know, we dub you.
you like a night.
Yeah.
And he said, I've been thinking about this.
You always pray.
I always started the fights.
That was a sergeant of arms job.
I was a black belt and karate.
Again, my father was a champion boxer, so I took boxing, golden gloves.
I won all that.
So I could throw down.
Still can.
And so he said, we're going to.
I felt threatened for a second, but then I realized he didn't mean it to, you know.
No, Francie does all the writing for me now.
Yeah.
So, uh, hi, Francie.
So he said, we're going to nickname you dog, which is God spelled backwards, because you're always talking about God.
So then I went to Mom and said, Mom, please listen to this.
She's like, oh, that don't help.
And so everything I tried to do that was toward the Christian way to help my mom think it was okay, you know how some Christians do us.
So I tried to, Mom, it's okay.
They call me dog, which is God spelled backwards.
And I'm like, she goes, that's...
And this one, your mother had to clarify, yes, backwards.
Yes, backwards, do you understand?
Wow.
But, I mean, just the fact that you're trying to even tell your mom I'm okay.
That's kind of interesting.
Well, I would call her sometimes and go, you know, tell her a problem.
She'd go, head to a Catholic church.
You need to exorcism.
I go, Mom, you think I'm going to let demons inside me?
You know, I know what the blood of Jesus is.
I'm covered in it.
I'm never going to do that.
And I, and they never got, they never got inside me.
because I would say I rebuke demons even two weeks ago out of my own self.
And I ignored myself with oil and said, in the name of Jesus, this thing has got to get away from me.
Wow, I didn't think we were going to get there so quickly, but I'm glad we did.
Folks, the book is Nine Lives and Counting, a bounty hunter's journey to faith, hope, and redemption.
Dog. Dwayne, Dog, Chapman is my guest. Don't go away.

Welcome back, folks.
I don't know about you, but I'm talking to Dog the Bounty Hunter.
Dwayne Chapman, you still want to be called Dog.
Yes, sir.
But now I understand it's not D-A-W-G.
It's D-O-G, Godspelled backwards.
Yes, sir.
So you're a young man.
You got in with a very, very, very rough crowd.
You're the sergeant-at-arms for the devil's decisive.
Biker Gang.
Yes, sir.
What happens now?
Well, the biker gangs, there's a bunch of them, okay?
But the one percenters were the most evil, and they did the killings, robbing.
What do you mean the one percenters?
What's that?
It's called, it's a one and then a percent sign.
There's one percent of evil, and we were that.
So your gang, the devil's disciples, was...
At one percent or club.
Now, what do you say, you said we did the killings?
Was this organized crime?
I mean, what was your MO?
What are you doing?
Organized crime.
Yeah.
Really?
We were as dangerous as the mafia.
Yeah.
The mafia didn't mess with us.
The mafia didn't mess with you.
No.
Right.
Wow.
Because the mafia would hire hits done, we did them ourselves.
So a lot of Italians were my friends and still are.
So then I have my friends.
got married at 16, had my first child, and I held Duane Lee in my arms, and was like, you know,
I took him naked outside like Kuta Kente and held him up to the Lord and said, I dedicate
this baby to you because I still had God inside me, barely.
You were just a kid.
You got married at 16 and had a kid at that age.
Yes.
Well, wait to hear the other story at 15.
So when you're beat like that, you look at the same.
for love. And I still
have, I speak to animals and I
love animals and
you just look for love everywhere
because you don't get it from your daddy, right?
Yeah. And I'll tell you why in a minute for that.
So
16, or once I add
Duan Lee, I said, I will not do no more
felonies. That's it. I'll
supervise them, I'll plan them,
but I ain't doing them. Now,
what do you mean by that? Felonies specifically
Robin Banks, you know, I'd check
out the place how to get in the back and
front door savings and loans they were called.
But I mean, but you're still, you're still a kid.
You're 16 years old.
You were a kid.
And you had been committing felonies.
And now you make some decision.
What was it having your own kid that made you say, I'm not going to do this anymore?
Oh, yeah.
I brought him home.
And back then, you couldn't go in when there was a birth.
And all of a sudden, I've got this baby, right?
I'm like, oh, my God.
So I lived in Pampa, Texas.
I moved to Texas.
And I got this baby, and I walked in the house, and I called 911, and said, I need to talk to the sheriff.
And he's like, hi, this is Ruth Jordan.
I said, this is Dog Chapman.
I said, I got a baby here.
I need to register him him.
And he's like, what?
Where was the baby born?
In Tampa, Texas.
But I mean in a hospital?
Yeah, in a highland hospital.
Okay.
So he said, what?
I said, I got my baby here.
I need to register him.
And he goes, I'm coming right over there.
So out the car stood the 6'5-6 sheriff, Texas sheriff, big, 300-pounder.
He's like, yeah, you need to register him.
I go, yes, sir.
You know, I didn't know.
I thought you registered him like a dog, right?
I don't know.
I had no idea.
I don't know either, so we're even.
So I was like, why would they let me bring this baby home?
Now, what about now, were you married to the mother of this baby?
Yes, yes.
And she's in the picture right now.
Oh, yeah.
But you made the phone call.
You're right.
She is a little, she's a month older than me.
So she didn't get it either, right?
So you're two kids with a baby.
Yes.
And what happened?
So the sheriff act like he registered him.
And he said, okay, he's registered.
And I'm like, all right, thank you, sheriff.
But you know how to burp?
And I'm like, what?
And then he showed me, you put him on your knee and rub the back,
and then patten and rub a little more, right?
I mean, we didn't know nothing.
We knew how to fix.
Of course, there was no formulas back then.
Yeah.
You breastfed.
Yeah.
And so...
Not you.
No.
One who could, would.
Yes.
Yeah.
No matter what they say, they still can't.
But anyway, so...
So, life went on.
I was still a disciple, but I kind of backed off.
So one night, we're there.
And somebody gets me on the phone.
I forget.
I think it was Dave O'Shella Christian.
I have a drug.
dream that I, in my chopper, I hit the back of a car, and what I dream is they're zipping me up
in a body bag. And he tells me, listen, Rick Ivy and him say, listen, you need to change your
life right now. God's fixing to get on you. That's what that dreams about. And I'm like,
F, God, he don't love me. And that was the word. The next day, my brothers come over and they
say, they're drunk. One of my sisters was with them.
bikers and they said let's go coyote hunting i said okay because i love to hunt so i brought a 30 aught
six a coyote caller we got in the car we drove over they said we need to my brothers is so drug
said we need to buy some marijuana so we drove over to this guy named jerry's house and uh we pull up in
front and my brother's really drunk right he's like i need to go in there rob this guy what we did was
rob hippies. So we would set up a drug deal, two pounds of pot, 25,000 hits of LSD, and then we'd go,
hi, this is Peter Paul, and this is Mary, give me your dope hippie. And they'd be like, here,
right? So that's how we pushed dope. We didn't make it. We stole it. So I...
Not that there's anything wrong with that. No. Yeah, okay. So I told Donnie, don't, you know,
he's not going to rob this guy. Go, no, you're not. He's my friend. Leave him alone by the
Buddha and get outside.
So he goes in the house.
All of a sudden, we're all in the car.
We hear, boom.
And we all look, and Donnie,
disciple comes running outside
with a shotgun in two pieces.
And his hand is bleeding
all over.
And we're like, what happened?
He said, man, I tried to rob him.
He grabbed the gun.
No, we got in the car.
He's all bloody.
I said, get him to the hospital.
What happened?
On the way of the hospital, he said,
he tried to rob me, grab the gun, I hit him in the shoulder.
So I said, drop me off at the house.
They took Darnie the hospital.
I called 911.
My first wife said, her name was LaFonda.
I called 911 on a princess phone.
And I said, you need to go to such, such prairie drive.
And when I hung it up, it didn't hang up.
And as I told her what happened, they were recording it on 911.
So I drove over there.
He's the victim Jerry's on a stretcher with an auctioning thing on.
And they move it.
There's Deputy Love who became my friend for he died last year.
And they said, who was it?
And he said, the devil's disciples.
And I'm standing right there.
And they said, was it?
He goes, was it dog?
And he goes, no, it was his brothers.
And I'm like, whoof.
Thank God, right?
So he was alive.
They drove him to Amarillo.
and in the morning at 6 o'clock, the alarm went off and said,
uh,
dog Chapman is being sought for the slot shotgun sling massacre of Jerry Oliver last night in Pampa, Texas.
And I was like, oh my God, he died.
So I was not a good runner.
I ran out the back door and ran right into Officer Bailey.
And he said, what are you doing?
And he started shaking.
I go, don't reach for that gun because I can get it quicker than you can.
because you can actually reach.
They used to wear them down on their hip in Texas,
and I could have grabbed it quicker in hip.
He's like, please, dog, you need to hold it right there.
And then here come all the, boom, boom, they got me.
So went to jail.
I was charged with first-degree murder, all of us.
Okay, but you were innocent of that.
Yeah, we didn't know.
None of us knew.
He didn't even know.
He was going to rob the guy, the guy grabbed the gun.
So it wasn't nothing.
So even it wasn't first-degree murder on your,
brother's part right so uh i go we go to jail all our bonds 50 000 and i'm like you back then i
there's no way i'm making you know and i thought this ain't gonna happen i didn't commit the
murder and there doesn't have to be a snitch because none of us snitched you know donnie
goes i admit it i did it and if i had an automatic i'd have got his wife too and i'm like
oh okay well thank you donnie and so the next day
This pastor comes to me named Gerald Middaw.
In the jail.
In the jail, the jail preacher.
Yeah.
And there's this little thing where they feed you and all that, and he opens it up.
And I go, hi, and he goes, yeah, I'm so-and-so.
I go, I know all about these guys.
And I'm assembly God.
I go, I really know about these guys.
And he goes, what's your name?
I said, dog.
He goes, is that God spelled backwards?
And I'm like, who.
How did you know that?
Of course, I knew about discernment and all that.
So I'm like, you know, wow.
He said, I'm going to pray that God lowers your bond.
And I go, go ahead, preacher, and I'm going to work.
Next day, we go to court.
My bonds lowered to $5,000.
10% 500.
My grandpa flew from Colorado.
Same grandpa that I moved in with, bonding me out right then.
So I said,
uh-oh so i go to the pastor and i go listen i need a job now because no one's going to hire me i'm out for
murder he said would you like to clean my church and i'm like and you're you're 16 years old

When you were young and your heart wasn't open,
Folks, in case you just tune in, I'm talking to Dog the Bounty Hunter, and you're telling us how you became a bounty hunter.
That was my question.
Right.
About three days ago.
I know.
But that's okay, because I'm enjoying this as a beautiful, important story of your life.
So you're 17 years old, and you are now out on bail, first-degree murder, even though you didn't commit first-degree murder, and you're asked to clean this church.
Well, he gave the pastor that visited me in jail gave me a job.
So I go in the church and I always sang.
And so I'm hit on the tape with singing.
I said, God, I'm so sorry that I did this.
Please help me.
Please help me.
Go to trial in a year thinking it's okay.
I'm going to walk.
You know, again, I didn't dedicate all the way to the Lord.
The jury stood up and said, we find all four defendants guilty.
And I'm like, so a year later, that go to trial.
How do they find you guilty when obviously?
Because in the state of Texas, and right after the year after that, 77, they changed the law.
If you were there during a felony and you didn't call the police, you were just as guilty.
Remember the old saying, if you steal a candy bar and the guy's in the car and you split with him and share him, you're both guilty?
Yeah.
That's a Texas law.
Yeah.
So I'm like, no way that can't happen.
So Judge Granger McElhaney sentenced all of us, and he gave the girl probation, another one of my brothers, eight years, gave the Trigger Man 10, and gave me five years and a day.
So off I go to the Texas Department of Corrections at 2017.
Well, I was actually 18, sorry, back up when it happened, 20-something years old.
I go to Texas.
And all of a sudden, I'm in the penitentiary for murder.
Now, you don't go in there with burglars back then.
Where Clyde Barrow stood, I stood in the same field, Bonnie and Clyde.
And around me was guys that killed their mothers.
You talk about demons.
You talk about live demons that would say,
the name, geez, blithe.
And I'm like, oh,
Oh, my God, right?
What am I doing in here?
And then I told the Lord that, and I'm like, why am I here?
And the Lord said, you see every brick these prisons build out of?
That's the laws you broke.
And you know better than anybody, you're going to reput you so.
And I said, all right, you know, what could I do?
I'm there five years in a day.
Lord, what do you want me to do?
So I opened the Bible, and you know, we're not supposed to point down.
because we may get Judas hung himself to myself.
Well, I don't have any problem with pointing down.
Sometimes the Lord can use that.
Yes.
It doesn't mean it's, you know.
But we were raised not to do that.
Don't do that.
So I pointed down in it said,
Lovest thou me, feed my sheep.
And I'm like.
But wait, now, hang on a second.
It's interesting now.
You're sharing this whole story.
You say, I opened a Bible.
So that's interesting that you had a Bible and that you opened the Bible.
You are in the Texas Department of Corrections.
and you open a Bible.
In the holding cell, it was a Gideon.
And it was probably the only Bible there, okay?
And in my cell was the Gideon and the book by Nikki Cruz cross in the switch.
Well, no, the book by Nikki Cruz is David Wilkerson wrote the cross on the switchplay.
Nikki Cruz is in the book.
It's in the book, yeah.
Right.
Okay.
So I point down, love is about me feed my sheep.
and then as I look out, I'm like, what does that mean?
And I look out and there's everybody, 80% from the black tribe guys there.
And he goes, we're being led like a bunch of sheep, little Davey tells me.
And I go, it's not called sheep, raw, it's called cattle.
And I realize, oh, my God.
Now, in Texas back then, you don't say, Jesus, gee, because they kill you.
Once you hit the Pentateuch, no more Jesus, that.
Really?
It's like mentioning of Jesus in hell.
It's that evil.
It's that evil.
You don't mention Jesus in hell, I bet you.
You may want some water on your tongue, but you better watch saying Jesus in hell.
Wow.
So it was the same way.
So I had to really, you know, when I said blessings, I had to do it by myself.
You had to really watch it.
So all of a sudden, God start, I start saying, this is it.
Lord, I'm so sorry.
Man, why did I do this?
to you. So all of a sudden I get a job. The most prestigious job in prison is the warden's barber.
Now, I never got a haircut in the whole life. Even to this day? No. No. So I write down, you know,
I lie and say, I want to apply for this job. I used to be a barber in the free world, right?
Yeah. The warden's like, okay, so I get the job. Yeah. Cut his hair, mess it up, get a second
chance, got it. So they love me.
The warden just is like, man, you're going to be something someday, dog.
I was like, thank you.
And so one night, this guy had an epileptic fit, right?
And this is the reason the warden started loving me.
And so I was raised, you know, now it's different.
There's some demonic and some your mind.
Of course.
And this guy started on the ground right.
And one of the guys got a big toilet brush was this big.
And they were going to kill him.
He was coming out.
You stick it down their throat so they don't get the tongue.
And they started bringing it.
They were going to kill him because he's having an epileptic fit?
Because you don't do that.
What do you don't do that?
You don't do that kind of fit.
But nobody chooses to have an epileptic fit.
You do it?
You're dead.
Because they're not going for that.
They don't like that.
You are a little slow in the mind.
You're dead.
You're light in the mind.
They kill you.
This is a picture of hell.
I'm not kidding.
This is amazing.
We're going to go to another break here.
This is some dark stuff.
but I know it ends well.
So hang on.
I'm talking to Dog the Bounty Hunter.

I'm talking to Dog the Bounty Hunter,
or real name Dwayne Chapman.
The book is Nine Lives and Counting.
Okay, so you are, man, this is hard to hear this.
So you're in this evil place, and there is a man having an epileptic fit,
and these comics want to murder him.
Yes.
And you see this.
Right, and he's up another tier.
There's three tiers, so I'm on the bottom.
I go up.
I see him bringing out this toilet brush.
The top is like that.
It's like that.
And you're supposed to stick a,
spoon in their mouth so they don't swallow the tongue,
so they're going to put a spoon in his mouth, all right.
They're going to kill him.
Oh, yeah, dead.
So I was raised by Reverend Fred Steinman,
and he was a demonologist in Chicago, professor.
And I'm telling you, man, so I knew what to do.
So I was like, okay, here we go.
So I read up there and say,
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
I cast you out.
You son of them.
Wait a minute.
This guy's having a beloved thing fit, and you believe that this is a demonic manifestation.
Yes.
So you go up there to cast the demon out so that they don't murder him.
Yes.
So the guy immediately sits up.
Now, Francie and I've been through this, too.
Look, I...
Sam Francie's seen me and her have done it.
Deliverance is real.
I have seen it.
I have been part of it, and there's no doubt about it.
Right.
But so here you are a very young man in jail, and you see this man having an epileptic fit.
Now, why do you say it's an epileptic fit?
Why didn't you, in other words, do you believe it was an epileptic fit or do you believe he was actually just manifesting demons?
I mean, I knew it was an epileptic demon.
Okay.
So you believed it was a demon.
And when you say this, he changes.
Yes, he sits right up.
Doesn't say nothing.
It sits up.
And then all the brothers are like, whoa, what was that?
I go, it's demons.
And so everybody, like, goes to sleep, right?
It's like 7, 8 o'clock lights out at 10.
So they're like, no, what happens with that demon?
I go, the Bible says it goes to and fro looking for another vessel.
And if the same vessel's dirty where it comes back, it brings in 70 more homies.
And all of a sudden they all are like, oh, my God, he's in here right now.
He's in myself.
And so they take their cups, they start doing this on the cells.
And, of course, the goon squad, the SWAT for the pen, comes in and goes, what's going on?
They're like, don't say the demons are running wild in here.
They're bringing his homies back.
You know, you know how the stories go.
And so I got thrown in the hole for creating a riot.
So the warden the next day, I tell him the story, and he goes, what?
Where's that at?
And I go, get me a Bible, I'll show you.
So I show him.
It's amazing that you knew this, that you're in this place in life.
But you knew this stuff.
Yeah.
Yeah. I'm raised.
Yeah.
Fannie Costel.
Yeah.
So I tell the warden, he's like, where's that at?
And I told him, he's like, wow.
You know, what could you?
So then he named, that's why he loved me.
And I became inmate counselor.
People say, where did you learn to put people in the backseat and give them the backseat right?
I go, it's a long story.
And that's the reason we wrote that book.
So I became, I had favor in the eyes of the Lord.
warden's barber. I was doing really good. So I got five years in a day. I tell the Lord, man,
please, what am I going to do when I get out? I'm convicted of murder. I can't get a girlfriend.
I can't fill out an apartment thing. Have you ever been convicted of felony?
How long did you serve of that time? I'll tell you in a minute.
Yeah. So I'm in there. All of a sudden, one day I'm outside the barbershop.
I have a friend named Bigfoot. He is, they throw you in the hole.
if someone dies.
You know, I went and talked to him when they're in the hole,
inmate counselor.
So all of a sudden they're bringing out my friend Bigfoot.
We were called Salt and Pepper.
And he's big.
And he's, boom, I see this guard, Espinoza hit the ground,
and out of the hole came Bigfoot running.
And he didn't have the African strut.
He could barely run.
And so I'm like, oh, I could hear the shot,
the 30-30 rifles cocking at the thing.
They're going to kill my friend, right?
And I'm like, no, no, no.
So I bolt out of the thing.
Lieutenant is right behind me, thinking salt and pepper running together,
pulls the 38.
I don't know, none of this is going on.
I don't hear him cock it back and all that.
All of a sudden, I get big foot by the pants and pull his leg, he big man.
And down he goes, and the lieutenant realized what I was doing,
and he pulls out these handcuffs and throws him in the dust.
And this is when God took over.
He said, hook him up, bounty hunter, good job.
And I went, lieutenant, I can't hook him up.
The lieutenant said, hook him up, bounty hunter, good job.
Bounty hunter, good job.
So I go back in, the Muslims were all mad because the warden calls me,
he goes, oh, my God, what did you do?
I go, warden, they're going to kill Bigfoot.
Yeah, but the Muslims are going to be so mad.
I'm going to have to transfer you.
You're the best barber we ever had.
Well, now, because they call you Salt and Pepper because you're a white man.
He's a black man, but he was a black Muslim.
No, he was a black guy.
But why were the Muslims going to get mad?
Because they run the penitentiary.
Okay.
So you're in trouble because you did this, and what happened?
So the warden said, we got to transfer you.
I go, warden, no, we don't.
Let me be myself.
He goes, I'll tell you something right now, boy.
If you're alive in the morning, you could stay.
and if you die, we're going to bury you up there in Boot Hill.
Now, I don't know if there's really a Boot Hill, but that's an old prison saying.
So the Muslims come to me and Ronnie Coleman, my shoeshine boys black, and they come up and they go,
why'd you run down and da-da-da-da?
And Ronnie says, hey, man, you know dog, he had salt pepper.
He's his friend.
He's his friend. You try to kill him.
And they go, all right, all right.
So they walk away, right?
So the next morning I get up and outside my cell is envelopes, pids, stamps, zoosos, whambs,
candy bars, and all this thing, the warden called me down, he goes, boy, they don't give you love offering, son.
Your bread is buttered.
And I go, what does that mean?
He goes, don't worry, you all right, son.
I said, okay, so I became then even more and more God and people come to me and say,
dog what do you do about this the warden even asked me what does this mean john the baptist and he had a big mouth
and i go yeah my mom you say so do i but look what happened to john he lost his head on a platter
so i started telling all these bible stories you know i was the interpreter of the bible but i was i still
had to curse and i still didn't act like i was too goody too too you're going to uh so i think
you're on the verge of answering the question i asked a couple days ago so we have a final
segment. We'll be right back talking to dog, the bounty hunter.
Make like Mr. Milk Toast.
Talking to Dr. Bounty Hunter. And you're on the verge of
helping me understand how you became a bounty hunter.
Amazing stories along the way. So, okay, what happens next?
Now, you are, something's going on in your life. It's amazing how God is in this.
Right, it is. It is. I've become war.
warden's pet.
So the big warden came to see me, because I was known for haircuts all through.
And so I tell the big warden what happened about why are you in here for murder, boy, what did you do?
Shoot your wife and the guy making love to her.
Back then in those days, you walk in and catch a woman, you shoot them, no charge.
Right.
It was a crime of passion or something.
Yeah.
I tell them the story.
That night I get arrested for lying to the warden.
I walk in the next day you have trial.
I said, you know why you're in that in the hole?
I go, no.
Well, yeah, I heard their story.
I called your sheriff.
You know, I knew his daddy.
His daddy was known as the one-armed sheriff.
And then he had a baby named a Roof who had two arms.
I called him.
He told me the same story you did, son.
And I told him, why is he in the penitentiary?
Roof said, well, the army won't take him.
They said they take women and children before they take him his record.
And I'm going to tell you something, warden that man's going to be something.
something Sunday. And he goes, dog chap and I agree. And I promise you, son, he said, your birthday's
ground dog's day as you call it. But this year, 1979, February the 6th, you're the hell out of here, boy.
Now you go be something. Do you hear me? Part one. And you're telling me that you get out and you become a
bounty hunter. And then I go straight to the post office. And I start looking at the top 10. And I look at them. I go
into order of badge.
Who put that idea in your head?
God.
Seriously.
God.
You get out of prison.
Right.
And I had a life.
You got a plan.
And your plan is I'm going to be a bounty hunter.
Yes.
Bounty hunters, I watched the Long Ranger, Steve McQueen, wanted dead or alive.
They were all guys that had a past and became a law man, but at the bottom totem pole.
So you need a past, check.
You got a past.
And you have a desire to be on the right.
And I'll stop right here.
We'll do part two.
So I go in, make all these copies of the top ten.
I go into a police supply store to get my badge, and I act like an undercover cop, right?
And I'm like, hi.
They're like, hi.
Your name, I said, Detective Chapman.
Hi.
I said, I lost my badge.
Here's a book.
Do you want to order one?
I go, yeah.
So I go, I'd like that one right there.
I picked the Texas star.
And he said, what's your badge number, detective?
And I was like, ooh, you can't say your Social Security number.
So guess what I said?
271097.
It was my prison number.
It's still on my badge today.
And all the numbers, I had no idea.
It's exactly right.
271097, six numbers.
And then I wore it as a literal badge of honor.
I carry that thing just like I do my.
I'm sorry we're out of time.
I can't believe this.
but we're ending on a high note, show and tell.
Look at this.
It's been an honor to sit here and talk with you.
Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your story.
I know there's more.
I want to have you back to continue it.
But in the meantime, folks, brand new book, nine lives and counting.
Dog, God bless you, my friend.
Thank you.
God bless you, bro.
Thank you for, I love you.
I love you, sir.
Aloha.
Americans for Prosperity has done it again.
You're going to love this.
Know how Biden's been running around the country bragging about Bidenomics
and the media is doing stories on how the president has embraced the term.
Well, guess what?
Americans for Prosperity just bought the Bidonomics.com domain name.
Bidenomics.com sets the record straight on the failures of Joe Biden's economy,
his horrible record on the cost of living, wages, debts, and deficits, energy, and more.
I've been to the site, and I can tell you, it is not what Joe Biden wants Americans to see.
APF takes Biden's own words and compares them to the reality of everyday Americans.
It is packed with facts and stories that prove binomics is a costly failure.
Americans for Prosperity deserve a lot of credit for this coup.
