Welcome to the Eric Metaxas show. I shouldn't tell you this, but Eric hired someone who sounds just like him to host today's show. I'm talking to Tim Sheets, Pastor Tim Sheets, who is at Oasis Church in Ohio, who's written many books, best-selling all. author, his new book is Angel Armies. Do you talk about some of these things in the book? You talk

about revival history, some of the things that you've seen in the book? Oh, yes, many testimonies in the book. In fact, my own testimony is in the book because three and a half years ago, I had an allergic reaction, and that caused me to have some surgeries. In fact, when you were here, I was under treatment for four-stage cancer, four-stage prostate cancer. I just didn't say anything to anybody much about it, but I had seven weeks of radiation. But the day I got the verdict Dutch called, and he said, I've got a team of apostles, and we're going to pray for you every Thursday night until this is gone. This is more than a year ago now.

And I said, but I'll be glad to do that, and we do that still to this day. we are now praying for the healing movement in our nation and world, and that is the team also that is doing the healing summits that we're doing. But that night, he gathered those apostles. I said, this is not about me. I've had a call of God on my life since I was a boy, and so is Dutch. And I don't know how many prophetic words, Eric, that we've got, that the heritage of your father and the voice of healing,

you guys are going to help resurrect dozens of times. And me and Dutch have talked about it over the years. When are we going to do this? Well, we're in our 70s. We might ought to get on it. When I got that diagnosis, I knew this is attack of hell to kill this assignment. And I began to pray, and I asked them to pray, and we've done it every time since. Yes, I want to be healed, and now I am.

My diagnosis a month ago is they cannot find one cancer cell. I'm healed. It's been verified. I've got the reports. I've done the tests. But I said, this is not about me. We have influence. Dutch, you have influence.

I have influence all over the United States. The other apostolic networks, we have influence. Let's spend it for people that don't know what we know. because sadly the church has done, and I don't mean this disrespectfully, but the church has done a terrible job of teaching the Bible. It doesn't teach that miracles are for today. It doesn't teach Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. It doesn't say that stripes off on his back, purchase your healing.

It's a part of the healing covenant, but we have influence. And let's do what the prophetic word said do. and let's begin a healing movement. That's why we don't just do it here at the oasis. We blast it live stream all over the world when we do these events, literally all over the world. And we have people there prayed for the sick, and now we are seeing miracles coming in.

I was this, I was that, I had cancer, I don't. And it's something that I believe is vitally important, Eric, for the coming generation because they see a powerless God. He's just out there. But when Grandma gets healed of cancer, it wakes them up. Wait a minute.

I know Grandma's not lying, and she was sick and she's healed, dad or whoever. And I believe that that is why we must have signed ones notable miracles for the harvest. It's about a billion-souled-souled harvest.

to reach the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. He said, I'll confirm my word with signs, wonders, and miracles. He either will or he won't. I believe he's the same yesterday, today, and forever. I believe Holy Spirit is the same. He said he's going to do a campaign greater than Pentecost in Acts 2. He will. Angels are here for a reason, and they're going to assist the ecclesias.

They're going to assist us to connect to supernatural assignments all over planet Earth. And the week after, Holy Spirit told me that about the campaign that we've talked about. He also said this about the same time in the middle of the night. He said, and I'm telling you, I thought it was out loud. I'm sitting on a in the dark by a lake. And he said, the greatest days in church history are not in your past. they are in your present and in your future. I have said that hundreds of times since.

The greatest days are not in our past. They are in our present and in our future. God's big enough to do that. That is such a big deal. And I am, you know, I am, I always want to be skeptical in a healthy way. Because people do, they blow smoke or they say stuff. But we have to be honest and say that there are times God speaks clearly and we need to receive it clearly and know that it's true. And I believe what you're saying is simply true.

There have been others. Mario Marillo has talked a lot about this and others. And it witnesses in my spirit that this is real, that we are on the verge of something glorious. And I think what we've seen in America, Donald Trump almost being murdered. do we, is anybody foolish enough to think that that was just coincidence and that, oh, well, yeah, he's president, but he's not going to get anything done. Are you kidding, folks? God's hand is on Donald Trump for God's purposes in history, not for Donald Trump, not for me, for God's purposes in history. And we're on the verge of something in America, and we can see it in so many ways.

Clearly, one of these things is in the supernatural. We're going to see this. and you just said it, Tim, if you know somebody who gets healed, you're done. You can't just say, well, who's to say, because you've seen it. And I think that is going to happen. And I think that people who otherwise could not come to faith will come to faith. Just as I came to faith, because the Lord spoke to me miraculously in a dream, my brain was so gumbed up intellectually that I needed a miracle to free me, to think clearly,

to see clearly. And I believe that's what God does in the miraculous. And as you're saying, we're on the verge. of seeing that, it's already happening. It is happening. And why would we think that words of Scripture are not going to come to pass? Are we not promised that a church without spot or wrinkle will develop? Well, we haven't seen that yet, so something big has to happen.

Are we not told that God moves us from glory to glory to glory? Well, yes, we are. why wouldn't we believe that he can do something bigger and better today than he ever has before? He's God. I don't, I just believe that God can do anything. And I believe that there is not, this may be a little controversial, I don't know, but I don't believe there's all that much difference between me and you and Dutch and the others and the guys that were in the New Testament Church, the fishermen.

God used them. In fact, the religious people said, well, they're unlearning and ignorant, but they've been with Jesus. What would happen if we just get with Jesus and believe what he said? Jesus said angels. We are told that angels came and ministered to Jesus. Why wouldn't they still be ministering to this day? Angels came and ministered to Elijah.

Is Elijah not a man like passions that we have? He's a guy like us, but angels ministered to him. What about Paul on a ship? Didn't angels come and help protect him and give him an assignment and say, you must go to Rome? The angels knew the assignment. You must go. That's a idea.

You've got to do this. Why are we so skeptical that God gave us supernatural beings? They're not divine beings. They're created beings. But they're supernatural beings. They're anointed beings. Why wouldn't God anoint us for such a time as this to see his greatest harvest? And I believe the Lord is doing that.

He's doing that right now through your voice and through this program. There are people hearing this right now who are going to be a part of what God is doing. Folks, the book is Angel Armies. As promised, I have now my friend, Dr. Hormos Shari, the founder of Iran-alive Ministries, which uses satellite broadcasting and the Internet to reach Iranians in Iran with the gospel, there's so much to say, but first of all, let me say, Hormos, welcome to the program. Well, thank you, Eric. So much is happening, both politically, military, but also spiritually, a lot is happening.

Scripturally. What do you, now what do you mean by that? Yes. Oh, spiritually, yes. But you, now you've been ministering, just give us a little bit of your background. You've been on the program before, but, you know, we have new listeners. What is your background and what got you in? to ministering to your people?

Briefly, I was born in Iran as a Muslim. I came to U.S. for graduate studies, for Ph.T. program at the University of Southern California. And there I started comparing the Bible and Koran. Before, when I was in Iran, I was on streets of Tehran, a young students, and 79 shouting death to America, death to America. But the Lord has changed my heart since then. But I came to U.S. I compared the Bible and Koran, and I came to Christ through that. And my life was changed such a dramatic, supernatural way that I felt I need to share this message with everybody.

I'm selfish if I don't do that. So that's the start of my ministry. Well, and again, you've shared that on the program when you've been here before. But it's very exciting because I think, you know, the idea that you are from Iran, in 1979, you were one of these people shouting death to America. And then you come to America, God totally dramatically, miraculously changes your heart. And now you've spent a very, very long time bringing Jesus to Muslim people in Iran. I mean, this is an amazing thing.

Just because of the current events, I want to ask you, what is your sense of what is happening in Iran? The last time you were on the program, you were talking about so many Iran, Iranians that are accepting the gospel of Jesus being converted. But of course, this kind of thing has to be kept quiet. You're not going to hear it from the state-run media in Iran. They are very upset about this. You don't even care if they know about it. You just want it to be happening.

But what is your sense of where things are in Iran? Do you think that the Mullahs, as many of us would hope, are weakening and that something is going on in Iran right now? Now, they have been weaken for the outside forces. Like they have lost their proxies, this war, the military and the nuclear sites were destroyed. But they are telling the government of Iran, telling the own people, hey, we might be weaker outside, but we are strong towards you, just dare to protest. And they are proactively, they're afraid that people will come on. streets during this time. So the last two weeks, proactively, they're arresting people and

executing people, including Christians. I mean, they are clinging to power, obviously, with everything they have. Do you have some sense that regime change is possible? Now, I have publicly said, I don't think the United States should be involved overtly or militarily in regime change, just because it tends not to go well. But I know that for many, many years, there are many Iranians who are not excited about being under the theocracy of the Mullahs. Do you have any sense of what is possible?

I mean, realistically, not just to say it because we hope it can happen, but do you have any sense of that? Yes. Realistically, there are scenarios where the government of Van can change. But uprising of the people to change the government, Very, very unlikely.

So what are the other scenarios? The Supreme Leader may die or there might be a coup d'etal with the Revolutionary Guards against him. Those are the more possible ways for the government to come down. Well, the Revolutionary Guard, are they, you know, because obviously in other parts of the Middle East, we have seen leaders overthrown to be replaced, you know, not by Benjamin, Franklin and John Adams, but to be replaced by different kinds of theocratic troublemakers, just a different brand. You know, we've seen that in Libya with Gaddafi. We've seen that in Syria. We've seen that in Iraq, in Afghanistan. We don't see what we might hope that we

would have, you know, Nasser or somebody who would want to bring about to have something like a Western democracy. So when you talk about the Iranian military, are there forces there that would bring us to something that looks like a Western-style democracy, or would it simply be another group of militant Islamists? First, you have to understand where the people of Iran are. So they have rejected Islam for 80% of the people. So they don't want any religious government. They want secular, they want democracy American stuff. They look up to America.

So if this happens that the revolutionary guards will do a coup d'etal, they will bring a secular democracy government to please people. Otherwise, they will be in big trouble. So they will side with people against the molars. To side with people is here. We are your heroes. We destroy these molars. Now we brought a secular democracy in Iran.

They become the heroes. That's the only way they can succeed. Well, this sounds hopeful to me, I have to say. I guess I'm wondering, is the son of the Shah a candidate to be part of this leadership? He is the most possible candidate, but not everybody is for him. He will not automatically become the leader of Iran. There will be fighting, in fighting. Unfortunately, if the government of Iran doesn't fall, it's bad.

This current government is going to start a new wave of persecution of all its opposition, including Christians. If this government stays, you will see they will kill 10, of thousands of their opponents just to bring stability for their power. But if it falls, then we will run into another type of crisis in Iran. You mentioned democracy does not work in the Middle East because you have to have a certain values, a certain culture that the democracy can grow in. And Middle East doesn't have it. And you have seen it. Try to bring democracy in Middle East is fruitless.

Unless the people change. The same in Iran. If the government falls, you will see in fighting. You will see more suffering of the people. But this time, right now the government is killing people. Later, the people will be killing people. So it's not an easy path either way. But the people prefer the second way.

He said, let's get rid of this. Then we will talk to what we can do next. One point I have to make, in either way, we, Christians, Iran alive, we have a mission. If the government doesn't fall, they're going to be persecution. So we're going to focus on evangelism and online church planting. If the government falls, we have certain plans. We will go and do on the ground, not under the ground, the ground church planting. So either way, we Christians have an important mission. Whatever happens,

we have a mission, and we have to adjust our ways to what's happening in the world. But Iran, for many years, at least a few years ahead, is going to be suffering. Either the government falls or doesn't fall, people of Iran will continue to suffer one way or another. I have to ask you, because there's been so much controversy about, you know, President Trump doing the strikes on the nuclear facilities, the three big nuclear facilities. Many people have said, and I'm inclined to believe it, that Iran was not only on the path to develop nuclear weapons, but would not that the current regime would not hesitate to use those weapons to wipe out Israel. Do you have a sense of that?

Do you think that people are just saying this, or do you think that this is in fact true? True and true. It's obvious. You don't need to have spies in Iran to find out that they're doing nuclear development. Just logic. They have spent $200 billion for nuclear development. And they're underground. Why aren't you underground if you're not building a nuclear bomb? And Iranians right now, they lack electricity. They say, oh, we're doing this for electricity. There are many cities in Iran don't have electricity. If they spend only 10% of that money, Iran will be selling electricity. So just looking at what it is, no, they have been and they are developing nuclear bomb. And the dangerous thing is this, Eric, during the Soviet Union and US, there was a mutual assured destruction, which if the EU's nuclear bomb, both of us will suffer. But with Iranian government's theology, that doesn't work. Okay. When we come back, I want to go over that because that's a very important point. I've made that point, and I'm afraid that it's true. I'm talking to my friend, Dr. Hormos, Shariat, the founder and president of Iran Alive Ministries. We're talking about what's happening in Iran right now. And you just said what I'm I have been thinking, Hormos, that when we're dealing with the Iranian mullahs, they are not being logical. So mutually assured destruction does not work because they have a death wish, because they're theocratic lunatics inspired by Satan, happy to wipe out the world and themselves. They have an apocalyptic view. The Soviet Union did not have that. They were atheists. They wanted power. Putin doesn't have that view. When you're dealing with these people, even though your enemies, you can deal logically. When you're dealing with the regime in Iran right now, you're not.

And so that's what's so fascinating to me that people don't seem to understand that these people aren't like us. They would be very happy if they could create a nuclear weapon to take out Israel just for the joy of killing every Jew they can kill. And if they are wiped out, they don't care. In other words, this is a, this is the definition of religious fanaticism, the kind that many leftist secularists would say, Christians are like that. Christian nationalists are just like, of course, we're nothing like this. We're not even Christian nationalists, but they impute that kind of thinking to Christians. But in fact, in this case, it is true, which is why Iran developing nuclear weapons is an existential threat.

to Israel. This is a reality. We're not just making this up. That's right. You have to realize that, first, the Iranian government are separate from Iranian people. So it's Iranian government that wants to destroy Israel. Most Iranian people say, we love Israel. Why should we destroy them? They haven't done anything to us. It's you. The clerics, you are the ones who have hurt us, and killed our loved ones. You have made our lives miserable. So you are our enemy, not Israel. That's the people of Iran. So what's the theology of Shiite Islam is two things. One is that return of Mahdi, that if the world comes to this chaos, then he will return. That's their Messiah, which when you look at their Messiah, the characteristics of their Messiah is more

like antichrist in the Bible. And so another thing is that when the nuclear bomb, let me share this. One of the clerics said this in Iran. When, not if, when we have nuclear bomb, we should use it against Israel, because it's a great deal. Why? Because we will kill one million of them in one day and they all go to hell, of course they're going to retaliate and kill one million of us in one day, and we all go to heaven. What a great deal. So the theology kind of encourages them to use nuclear bomb. And that's very real and that's very dangerous. So Iran not having nuclear bomb is safe, not just for Israel. Israel and U.S. are doing a favor not just to protect Israel, but protect the world. Because when

Iranian government has the nuclear bomb, it's going to use it to bully its way around the world. Well, again, there's so many people that are so naive, conservatives and liberals, I mean, mostly liberals, but they're very naive. They don't seem to understand

that there is genuine ideological fanaticism in the world. Adolf Hitler's a classic example. Why would he expend unbelievable effort, money, to murder millions of women and children, it doesn't make logical sense, but some people are not logical. They're driven by, in this case, a satanic fanaticism.

And this is a reality in history, but they're people that they see history through a secular lens. They're not capable really of seeing things like this. They think that everybody thinks the way we do. And in fact, that's not the case. So thank you for helping us understand this, because this is very, very. real. And I'm fascinated that you said 80%. I've heard this figure, 80% of the Iranian people do not want the current leadership. What an amazing thing to have these theocratic fanatics ruling people who don't want them there. I mean, it's just, it's an extraordinary situation. I want to pivot in the

time we have left to the work that you're doing, Iran alive ministries. How do you reach the people in Iran? We use media, but it's just a front tool. We are working on the ground in Iran. We are training leaders, training pastors all over. So the tool is media. Number one is satellite television, which the signals go over the heads of the Mullahs in the privacy of people's homes. And the government, if one, cannot stop it. This signal is coming from sky. We have an online ministry, but that's easy to shut down. The last two weeks, the government has shut down the internet. So very easy to shut down or control. So we use both to reach. And now we are good at evangelism. God has given us a grace for evangelism. Many, many are coming to Christ. We just passed over

110,000 registered salvation. And every month, over 1,200 new salvations. And we need to take care of So we have online courses, online churches. We have underground, but people of Iran are scared to go to underground church. Because they say, if I go to underground church, the pastor there doesn't know much more than I do. And by the way, going to underground church in Iran is punishable long jail sentence. Did you know just last month? Several people, including a young mother with the baby, she was sentenced to 17 years. in jail.

This is an extraordinary thing. You've been a huge part of what God has done over there for how many years. How many years have you been doing this? 25 years on the air. 25 years on the air in Iran. It's amazing that you're able to do an end run around, you know, the official media and to reach the actual people of Iran. But you said that just before,

we went to the break that the mullahs are so threatened by Christian faith as they should be, of course, that a woman recently was sentenced to 17 years in prison for what? Yeah, this young lady, and there were several, but this young lady really touched my heart because she just had a baby. And they, 17 years, a year in jail, why? Do you know what her crime was? Her crime was attending a house church, attending a house church. That's why we have house churches, but the fastest growing segment of our ministry is online teaching, online training.

We have an online school with 4,700 students, and many are knocking at our door. Please train us, train us. So an online church is growing. And we are ready for the Ivan to open up, open up, and we go, we gather, and we start, planting churches. So this is a great field. There's open heaven, but we cannot do it alone. This is a time to make history in Iran. I'm talking spiritually, both politically, but spiritually. Iran is the most open country to the gospel, has the fastest-going evangelical population to the world. Let's not miss this opportunity. Let's not miss this window. Let's work together to make Iran a Christian nation.

You say Christian nation? Really? I say, yes, it's a promise of God in Jeremiah 49, 38, that eventually Iran will be saved and be a Christian nation. So let's work together towards that. If there was religious liberty where it would not be illegal to attend a church in Iran, suddenly it would be a new day. And so these are things we can do. So obviously, if

if you want to be part of this, praying for Iran, praying for regime change, for God's will for the people of Iran. We know the stories because there's no doubt in my mind, and I know in yours or most that it's the Lord's will that people hear the good news, that people come to faith in Jesus. and it's been happening, but what would it be like if there were regime change and that the new regime would allow religious liberty? This is, I mean, this is an amazing thing. Listen, America is not an officially Christian nation, but we have religious liberty. And so the church is the strength of the nation just has been in many places in history. If you have enough religious liberty just to allow the people of God to be the people of God, you see miracles.

So I hope people will be part of praying for your ministry and for the people of Iran. What is some of the – are you in touch with people there? Are you able to be in touch with people there who have been there now? Yes. Daily, of course, we broadcast since the war started, we have a daily broadcast live, that prime time in Iran. And Internet has been on and off, but we are in touch. We have many, many leaders in Iran.

When it's on, we just connect and we talk and we plan what to do. They are okay, except one of them was arrested last week, a young lady who is an amazing leader in our media department. Please pray for her. And they may take her for long term. But we ask her, clean up your room, clean up your house. Give your cell phone away. And she did. So they haven't found anything against her.

but she still has to go to court and answer questions. So we are very careful. We are telling our leaders to be careful and to be alert. But at the same time, through media, we are telling the Christians in Iran, hey, this is suffering. There is bad times. But God is with us. The darker in Iran gets, you need to be light in the darkness. So go out and share the gospel.

And people are. They receive comfort. They receive peace. They receive hope. They receive love from Jesus, and they go out and pass it on to others. So we are seeing more people coming to Christ even through these hard times. It's unbelievable. I think for many people in the West and the United States,

it's almost impossible to believe that this is going on. And it's why I wanted to have you back on the program, because this is amazing, folks, but it's real. There are people in places like Iran and China, other places who are serious Christians. They have come to faith. They're sharing their faith, even though they will be persecuted if they're caught doing that. And it's just, it's just a beautiful thing. Before we end today, Hormos, you said that there are miracles happening. I'm not surprised when people are being persecuted. God does miraculous things. So anything along those lines that you can share, we'd love to hear it. Well, let me share one. One of our leaders said she was praying. that God used me. And at night she had a dream that she needs, the next day, she needs to go to a specific park, specific bench.

And there will be a lady there. She needs to share the gospel and take a Bible. So she did that. As next day she was approaching, she saw a lady sitting on the same bench she saw in a dream. And as she was approaching, the lady gets up and runs, hey, where is my Bible? Where is my Bible? Are you a Christian? And so, how did you know?

And the lady said, I saw a dream last night that I need to come and sit on this chair, on this bench. And God will come and somebody will share the good news about God with me and will bring me a book, bring me a Bible. And he showed me your face also. I saw you in my dream last night. So when I saw you far, I knew that's you. I knew God sent you. Now give me your Bible and tell me about Jesus. So this is like the work of the Holy Spirit in the book of Acts.
