Starting point is 00:00:00 Folks, welcome to the Eric Metaxus show, sponsored by Legacy Precious Metals. There's never been a better time to invest in precious metals. Visit legacy pm.investments.com. That's legacy pm investments.com. Welcome to the Eric Metaxus show. Have you heard that some people have a nose for news? Well, Eric has a nose for everything. That's why this is called The Show About Everything. Now, welcome your host, who definitely passes the smell test. Eric Montaxis. Welcome back.
Starting point is 00:00:45 We continue our conversation with She Van Fleet, the author of Mao's America, A Survivor's Warning. Again, she, hard to believe you lived through this period of the cultural revolution. One of the most evil things in history. It's hard for people to believe
Starting point is 00:01:02 how wicked it was. You live through it. Now you see it happening in America. Let me ask you, You know, you said you came to this country in 1986, and what were you doing, you know, in the last decades? Were you aware of these things? Were you thinking about these things? Or were you just going about your life?
Starting point is 00:01:24 And then suddenly more recently, you said you have to tell this story. Yes, I think that's what I said. I just paid no attention thinking that the freedom is always there. And I did not realize that our freedom is only one generation away from. disappearing. So that is the mistake that I made that I did not tell even my family and my friends, my co-worker, about the history, the history that becomes so relevant to America. So that's a mistake I made, and I take that responsibility. In America, the history of communism, the history of Chinese cultural revolution were not taught. And it's by design. They don't want
Starting point is 00:02:10 people to know. But I have this responsibility. So, and I say that now I made it my mission to educate Americans about the horror of communism and about the threat of cultural Marxism to America. And again, we're seeing it everywhere, and I never dreamt that we would see it. I couldn't dream But, you know, I have to tell you, you say you came here in 1986. In the early 80s, before you came here, I was at Yale University. And for the first time, I saw exactly what you're talking about. It was there in the universities. Then it was called political correctness.
Starting point is 00:02:52 But, you know, you have to have these views and not these views. And it was the same thing as we're seeing now. But it was just the beginning. It was just in the universities. And I foolishly went along with it. it. I didn't have the ability to say, wait a minute, that's right, that's wrong. I just went along with it. So I can see in my own life how it's possible to go along with these things, maybe not to be one of the main proponents of them, but to go along with it, to keep your mouth shut, silence in the
Starting point is 00:03:22 face of evil is itself evil. I was silent in the face of these things. I did not fight against these things. I helped them to thrive by keeping my mouth shut or by doing whatever I thought I was supposed to do. And I think there are many people today doing those things to one extent or another, which is why I advocate that people need to be absolutely committed to fighting against these evils. To be silent or to say, well, it's not my business. You're helping to make it happen. So obviously, you at some point in the last few years said, I have to speak up. Yes. And today, I tell everyone that it's not enough in America today to be just a conservative. We have to be anti-communists.
Starting point is 00:04:09 Communism has infiltrated America from long time ago. Communist USA was founded in 1990, two years after the Russian Revolution. The Chinese Communist Party was founded in 1921. two years after the Communist Party USA. So Communists has been here for a long time. It works decades for them to get where we are today. And in my book, I describe the two cultural revolutions. While in Mao's China, the cultural revolution was raging from 1966 to 1976,
Starting point is 00:04:54 cross the ocean. There was a cultural revolution, phase one, Phase one that's taking place in America. That's the counterculture. And after that, after the end of the Vietnam War, the movement seemed to be died down, but didn't. Those activists, those agitators, those revolutionaries went to academia. They become the tenured professors. They stayed there.
Starting point is 00:05:23 They continued their work. they produced generations of Marxists. And you were there during that time. But they have already successfully produced generations of American Marxists who are now in control of all our institutions. Well, and of course, my main thing these days, I wrote a book letter to the American Church where I say that many, many, many people in the churches,
Starting point is 00:05:49 in the evangelical churches have decided, oh, this is not my problem. I don't want to be political. They simply don't understand what is at stake and God's mandate that we're to stand against evil. We're to recognize what is evil.
Starting point is 00:06:06 And everything we're talking about is evil. It's the enemy of God and we have a duty to speak against it. That's part of the failure in America is that many in the churches act like these things either aren't happening or it's not my issue. Because they don't understand.
Starting point is 00:06:22 And they are the ultimate target. The revolution want to destroy religion. They especially want to destroy Christianity. Did you at any point in your life come to faith, or did faith become a part of your life? No, I was raised a communist. I thought so. I thought I was an atheist. But, you know, I was raised as a communist.
Starting point is 00:06:49 And but now I think after coming here, I started to, to see. see things differently. I started to see, yes, there is a higher power. And because before, I remember, we all understand the higher power is the party, is the government. Our rights were granted by the government. And so this concept that our rights are from a creator was alien to me for a long time. And it's still alien to many, many people in the world, including the Chinese because that is just absolutely something that not in the civilization in China. And they're always from emperor and now it's from the communist emperor, it's from the government. So yes, I am getting closer and closer and to become religious, but right now I think I'm spiritual.
Starting point is 00:07:54 In my book, I did talk about why I believe that Christianity is the enemy of communism. And the only thing, the only weapon that we have to defeat communism is Christianity. I mean, it's fascinating that even not as particularly Christian yourself, that you recognize this. I think this is part of what's been happening. I think that because we've seen evil manifest itself in a way. way that most of us have not in our lifetimes in this country, many people are making the logical connection. They're finally being forced to see, wait a minute, who's being targeted? Why are they being targeted? What ideas are being targeted? And when you do the math, you come up with the idea
Starting point is 00:08:41 that you say that it's about power. And those in power are most threatened by people of faith, because people of faith believe in another power. And that's why in China, the Uyghur Muslims are being attacked and persecuted, because they believe in a higher power. They don't believe the state is the power. The Christians in China are being attacked because they believe in a higher power. We saw this in Nazi Germany. We see this all throughout creation.
Starting point is 00:09:11 We see this in the first century. Caesar was threatened. His power was threatened by the Christians who believed in another king. So we see this over and over and over again. We're almost out of time, but I want to say that I would like to have you back to talk more about this. I'm looking at my clock here. We have maybe we can have you back next week to continue the conversation because this is a big conversation. Ladies and gentlemen, I want to remind you that the title of the book is,
Starting point is 00:09:48 is Mao's America, a Survivor's Warning. The author is Shee Van Fleet. She is spelled X-I-Van-Fleet. Shee Van Fleet, thank you for the warning. We'll have you back to continue the conversation. The book is Mao's America, a survivor's warning, a crucial book in this time. Thank you, Shee. Thank you so much, Eric. Folks, right now in other parts of the world, people's lives are being threatened simply for believing in Jesus. People have been enslaved for their faith. So listeners to this show know that I'm passionate about the work of Christian Solidarity International because they protect and free those who are being persecuted and enslaved for their Christian faith.

Ladies and gentlemen, remember I warned you that on this program sometimes I have friends of mine because that's the most important credential of my friend Keith Getty.
Starting point is 00:12:31 Keith and Kristen Getty are, they're famous, the Grammy-nominated recording artists. But you know what? Who cares about that? The bottom line is Keith is my friend. Keith, welcome. I am delighted to be here. How are you this fine year? How are you this fine fall?
Starting point is 00:12:46 Well, I found out that when you are doing your Christmas tour, you and your current wife, what's her name? Kristen? Yeah. I thought, what's the wife number four? You know, you musicians, you're all strung out on junk. You got you going through the wives. Come on, man, get it together. You know, I never, we've never, we've never,
Starting point is 00:13:05 we're going to be 20 years married next June, and we have never had a night apart. We've done over 1,100 flights. Are you serious? She obviously doesn't trust you. No, no, she, we, since the day John Lennox, since the day your friend, John Lennox introduced the two of us. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:22 From that day. Suzanne and I, my marriage. would not survive. Suzanne needs me to leave and to go on the road. If I were home all the time, she travels with me a lot, but not all the time. But if we were together, like, constantly, she would walk away.
Starting point is 00:13:38 And we've been married 27 years, my friend. Kristen does look pretty exhausted, I would say that. She's, so, so let's try to get serious. You and Kristen are, you're, in my book, your music royalty, you're incredibly talented. You're most famous as a modern hymn writer. The two of you create hymns.
Starting point is 00:14:04 And so how do you see hymns as different from, I was going to say hers, but it's difficult to talk about that in this day and age. I was going to say, how do you see hymns as being different from modern worship music? You're asking me gender questions, aren't you? Yes, I am.
Starting point is 00:14:21 That's where I'm going with this, man. Did you get the surgery? That's all I want to know. Well, look, Eric, I knew you when you were Eric. So I'd just be careful. I could ruin your whole career as it stands. I can't believe. We have to edit that out now.
Starting point is 00:14:37 I don't want people to know about my past. You know what I'm saying? So we always joke that we write hymns and make hers because we actually have four daughters. You know, I forgot about that. That old joke, which actually never gets old. you guys have married 20 years. You have four beautiful daughters and three hideous daughters.
Starting point is 00:14:57 Let's be clear. Four beautiful daughters and three hideous ones that you never talk about. You don't bring them up on the stage at the Christmas thing. Listen, the reason you're here, other than for us to joke around like idiots, you and I are friends, but you really, every year you travel around, particularly at Christmas. I mean, you do this all through the year. But you are going to be everywhere. this December. Tell my audience where they can find you because these concerts are so delightful.
Starting point is 00:15:28 Every year, you do it at Carnegie Hall. You will be at Carnegie Hall this year. Yeah, yeah, on the ninth. It's a great show. It's our ninth Carnegie Hall. Actually, would you believe it, they've given me next year, they've given me the 16th to December, which is my 50th birthday. So I'm getting to be my 50th birthday. I need to write this down so that I'm not at a next year on December 16th because this year I've got it's not going to be this year no but here's the thing it's like a lot of us are your de-list celebrity friends are like all of us from you know from the early days of visiting Socrates in the city you know when you became a big when you became a big cheese you drop I just I dropped you guys now I'm hanging out with George Foreman and you know uh Mel Gibson and I where we got a little we got a little dinner party happening that night and I just can't make it what can I tell you no but seriously it bothers me a lot that you're going to be in Carnegie Hall and I'm not going to be able to be able to. to be there, but you are going to be in Carnegie Hall, December 9th. Tell my audience how they can find you for this tour. I mean, people know I'm not joking. It is so worth getting to these places, because you put on a huge show. It's beautiful. That's so sweet, Eric, and I think of the nine
Starting point is 00:16:41 Carnegie Halls, I think from memory, you've been all of them except, I remember one you couldn't go because you were committed to your friends event. I had a hair treatment that night. And you came to the, no, it was a lovely singer girl, and you were committed to her event. But you still came to the party afterwards. So we've appreciated the support of your show every year on it and your whole team. But this year is at Carnegie Yield's the 9th. We're going to be, let's see, my birthday show this year is in Wheaton, is in Wheaton, Illinois. So if you're in Chicago land or Wheaton, Illinois.
Starting point is 00:17:17 Yeah, yeah. So that, for my birthday party. What's the date? What's the date? It's the party central. It's like, it's like, it's like Vegas
Starting point is 00:17:24 in kind of no ways whatsoever. It's the 16th of December. What goes on on Wheaton stays in Wheaton? Where else will you, I'd love it to stay in Wheaton if only that were true.
Starting point is 00:17:37 Where, where else are you performing? You and your current wife, what's her name? Yeah, her, yeah, so we're doing Pittsburgh on the 14th, which is kind of
Starting point is 00:17:49 a, a surprising choice, but a city that I love. And the first time I went there, I actually got to have lunch with Dan Rudy, which was really cool because he ran the Irish. He was at the American Fund for Ireland, and I got to go to the old stadium. Wait, with who?
Starting point is 00:18:03 Who? I can't say his name. I forgot. I forgot you didn't like him. Dan Rooney, who owns the Pittsburgh. So I was a beautiful city. I've been there a couple times. I'm just shocked it.
Starting point is 00:18:17 So there's certain cities that they seem like, Hollywood sets or something. There's something about all the bridges. It's beautiful. So where else are you going to be and how can people find you online? You can go to Gettymusic.com and our touring. You can find it there. We're finishing the tour this year in the Minneapolis Concert Hall, which I'm really excited about. And what we're playing Fort Worth. We're doing three nights at the Museum of the Bible. I think they're all sold out, but you can check that up. Three nights at the Museum of the Bible after Carnegie Hall. Carnegie Hall is the ninth. I'll have a little bit of a party with my family in the 10th.
Starting point is 00:18:46 then 11th, 12th, and 13th with the Museum of the Bible for three nights there. I said there's about, I think there's about 100 tickets left for those three nights. So jump in quick with those. Wow. So wait. So you're in D.C., New York, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis. What else? Wheaton, the Vegas of Heartland America.
Starting point is 00:19:05 Wheaton, right. Don't forget to visit the Sammy Davis Museum when you go to Wheaton. Hey, there's a C.S. Lewis Museum. and this Wednesday, this Wednesday is the anniversary of his death, and then next Wednesday is the anniversary of his birth. And this year we get, this year, I think we're, this year's a good year for C.S. Lewis. You're talking about C.S. Lewis or Sammy Davis Jr.?
Starting point is 00:19:27 I've moved to C.S. Lewis. For some reason, I find, I find, I find, I find his stuff to be slightly better to read. I think he's, I think we're, are we to 125 years this year? 125 years since his birth. He was born in 1898. Yeah, so we're 120. Because I was at the centenary celebration in 1998 in Oxford in Cambridge, yeah. That's where I first met.
Starting point is 00:19:55 That was my gig out of college. I just graduated from college. And Douglas Gresham brought us in to do music for all the CS Louis centenary celebrations that year. That was my gap year. Oh, my gosh. It's hard to believe it's that long ago now. That's astonishing. That's 25 years ago.
Starting point is 00:20:11 My goodness. Kelly Monroe, Chuck Colson, lots of... Chuck Colson was there. I was there. I was working for Chuck Colson at the time. But my goodness, that's 25 years ago. I'm astonished. And then I think it's also this year, of course, is 60 years from the death
Starting point is 00:20:28 because Huxley Kennedy and Lewis died in 63. That's right. They're two pretty big Wednesdays coming up. And Kennedy is the one that brought prostitutes into the White House. That's not C.S. Lewis or Aldous Huxley. I just want to be clear because the three of them, dying on the same day. People get them confused.
Starting point is 00:20:45 I think we're going to have to edit some of this out, Keith. I apologize. No, but seriously, I just get so delighted talking to you because we're friends. I want to say that the Carnegie Hall event, you always have special guests at that. He's never had me as a special guest, Keith. I want you to know that. But he has like big names, like poets, famous poets, Sally Lloyd Jones. Like you always get, you get these big names.
Starting point is 00:21:12 And I think this year you have Pastor A.R. Bernard will be there. Yeah. Triply. Tripoli, the rapper is coming this year. Trippley, the rapper. There's a rapper named Tripp. You make it Tripoli the rapper. Like, oh, that Tripoli. Okay. Yeah. So he did a we did a song called No Children Come that we originally wrote for Ricky Skaggs for the very first Carnegie Hall show that you came to. And then it was done by what do you call the guys that did, uh, Grisselands with Paul Simon? Lady Smith, Black, Mambazel.
Starting point is 00:21:42 Oh, my gosh. They're fantastic. Yeah. The version of this song. And then Tripli did a rap version of the song. So it's a song of ours called No Children Come. And this is now the third edition of it. So Trips come in to rap, wrap at the show.
Starting point is 00:21:56 It's just kind of fun, a bit different. All right. So I want to be clear, if people want to find you and to go to one of these events, Gettiemusic.com is the website. Have we mentioned all the places that you're going to be? You mentioned Wheaton, Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., New York City. We're starting in Fort Worth. I'm trying to remember because I'm playing golf.
Starting point is 00:22:21 I was just in Fort Worth. We did a Socrates in the city event there. We love Fort Worth. We love Dallas. My goodness. But you guys are getting around. Well, people need to know. Oh, and Minneapolis.
Starting point is 00:22:33 But no kidding, folks. If you can get to one of these shows, I just, it's killing me now that I can't. but Gettemusick.com slash tour. Do you have Malcolm Gite with you? He is joining us for Carnegie Hall. Oh, my, I can't believe this. And he's exactly like Dr. Zeyas from the Planet of the Ape stuff. Unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:22:58 We'll be right back. Tell me why Relief Factor is so successful at lowering or eliminating pain. I'm often asked that question just the other night. I was asked that question. Well, the owners of Relief Factor, Tell me they believe our bodies were designed to heal. That's right, designed to heal, and I agree with them. And the doctors who formulated relief factor for them selected the four best ingredients,
Starting point is 00:23:31 yes, 100% drug-free ingredients, and each one of them helps your body deal with inflammation. Starting point is 00:25:27 A friend like Keith Getty, we joke around so much that some of the audience, I'm sure, finds it annoying. And I apologize to you, folks. But I can't help it. Keith is just fun. And his lovely wife, Kristen, he and Kristen are going to do an Irish Christmas all across the country, Getty Music.com. But you mentioned earlier another anniversary.
Starting point is 00:25:52 What was the anniversary? Was it J.S. Bach? Well, it's actually J-J-Ju joy of man's desiring. Yesu, Yezoo joy of man's desiring. That's right. That's right. I'm not going to comment in that. So Bach's behind me here.
Starting point is 00:26:06 Here he is. Look, there he goes. I see a photo, not a photo, because they didn't have photography back then in the early 18th century. It's a painting by Rose Wilson of Bach, which is my 40th birthday present. And so the choir at Carnegie Hall
Starting point is 00:26:21 are doing a special, tuned with anniversary performance of Yeo Joe of Man's Desiring. And I think they're going to do it in Minneapolis. Hold on, hold on, hold on. There's no way that it's a 200th. 300th 300th. I hate to correct my friends on the air. I hate to humiliate you in front of America and the world.
Starting point is 00:26:41 But it's 300th anniversary, which is actually even more impressive. Wow. Yeah, yeah. So who is performing that with you? The choir, the Carnegie Choir, going to do it with the string orchestra at Carnegie Hall. It'll be beautiful. That'll be beautiful. And I think they're doing it in German, so as well, which is nice. Well, since Bach wrote it in German, why shouldn't they? I think it's a good idea.
Starting point is 00:27:04 Yeah. It's a good idea. So, I'm looking forward. There's lots of special moments this year. And that's going to be one. I want to be clear. I mentioned the poet Malcolm Geite. I met him at various CS Lewis celebrations in Oxford.
Starting point is 00:27:22 I believe in Cambridge over the years. and he's a brilliant poet, profound Christian. And last year at Carnegie Hall, he read a poem about the two gardens. Yeah, he was, he was right, he's actually writing a poem this year to be premiered at Carnegie Hall at the show. And it actually has a kind of in New York. He's thinking about New York specifically this year in this poem. So, of course, any great, any great New Yorker who's committed to. God's Kingdom and New York will be there.
Starting point is 00:27:56 We'll be in the poem. If I'm in the poem, I'll cancel my plans and I'll come to Carnegie Hall. No, seriously, last year, Malcolm Geith's poem that he read on the stage of Carnegie Hall was magnificent. I do not blow smoke. I am telling you, folks, it was a poem I thought this is a classic poem. As soon as I heard it, I said that is absolutely fantastic. So he won't be reading that poem this. He has another poem.
Starting point is 00:28:25 He's writing a new one, yeah. And it's actually taking, I think, some New York themes in this year's poem for the Carnegie Hall reading. Because there's something about the crisp air and energy of New York at Christmas that is just like nowhere else in it. That's why I'm leaving. That's where you're going to Florida. That is so terrific. But you said Pastor Air Bernard and Michael Keller, Tim Keller's son, Michael Keller, who now heads up one of the campuses of Redeemer here in New York. Michael's wonderful.
Starting point is 00:28:51 I haven't been in this year for the memorial. Royal Service. I thought it would be lovely if he would just do the closing benediction issue, which he's going to do. And he's great to you. So there's more guests to be announced as well. Not just Malcolm Geith, not just Tripoli, not just A.R. Bernard and Michael Carter. There's more to come. So it's, um, we're getting there. Well, if I've been invited to be on stage, folks, I never would have made plans to be away. But I did it just to, protect myself. Just to protect myself. No, that's for sure. That's for sure. That's for sure, because I charge you double. But.
Starting point is 00:29:22 Many days of Socrates, city, we could have done it. But then you became a global, a global, a political operative, a kind of a kingmaker, a kingmaker of nations and continents. It's so terrible. Well, so tell us a little bit more about the kind of music you do, because I'm not kidding. It is so wonderful. Every year, I'm just amazed. And the Irish flavor of it, is this, is the title of this? sing an Irish Christmas.
Starting point is 00:29:54 Is that the title of what you're doing? Yeah, yeah. So it's two halves. The first half's a party and the second half is a carol service. So the first half, we have a lot of special guests, Irish dance, Irish instruments.
Starting point is 00:30:04 And then my wife sings a bunch of songs. She's got a couple of brand new songs. She's putting on the show this year. And she's also doing some fun stuff. She's even adding Winter Wonderland in this year to give it a whole kind of new fun touch. And there's a little section for the family. So our girls come on and they play and they sing and they dance.
Starting point is 00:30:19 So our girls are coming on to do a number near the end of the first half with her. which will be kind of fun as well. So we're looking forward to that. And then in the second half, we basically go through the gospel story. So it's a great chance to bring whatever city you're at. It takes 60 minutes. It's a great chance to go through beautifully and tastefully the Christmas story
Starting point is 00:30:35 and how people understand that in the beginning was the Word. And the Word is with God and the Word was God. And the darkness, whatever the darkness is in your life and whatever the darkness is on our news channels right now, that the light has overcome the darkness. we can all know them. So it's a great opportunity. I want to say, because we joke around so much, I forget, these events, these concerts are absolutely perfect to bring somebody who is not a Christian or is not particularly serious
Starting point is 00:31:09 about their faith. These are just the most delightful events to invite people to, and especially at Christmas folks, that's an opportunity where people will come to things like this, especially at places like Carnegie Hall. All these venues are beautiful venues. But it is just totally first class. Absolutely first class. We've got time for one more segment. Keith, don't go away.
Starting point is 00:31:34 Folks, if you want information, I promise you, you will not regret it if you go to one of these events. Gettymusic.com. Gettymusic.com slash tour. Just magnificent. Folks, welcome back. I'm talking to my friend, Keith Getty, and honestly, only a friend would put up with the nonsense
Starting point is 00:33:29 that I give Keith. But really, only I as a friend would put up with the nonsense that Keith, shovels in my direction. And that's the joy of our friendship. We tease each other. But you, sir, we have to mention this just because I find it so
Starting point is 00:33:45 funny. You and your beautiful, talented wife, Kristen, were introduced by the great John Lennox. I write about John Lennox in my books, in my book is atheism dead. I've interviewed him at Socrates in the city many times, once at the Museum of the Bible, once in the south of France. But the great mathematician and Christian apologist, John Lennox, is the uncle of your beautiful wife and introduced you to your wife. That's just amazing to me. No, it's amazing. It's amazing.
Starting point is 00:34:20 You know, the first time I met him, I was 18 years old, I was filled. You can imagine me as an 18 year old was not an undriven child filled with spit and vinegar. And I went to hear him at an event and I wanted to meet him afterwards. So I talked my way into finding out where he was going for supper afterwards and being invited to the event. And so I got myself invited to the supper and I sat beside him on the floor and just asked him questions and he told me two most amazing things. You were 18? Yeah, yeah, I was at 18 and I talked my way into the house for, the host of
Starting point is 00:34:50 the event for supper. And I said, and he said, you know, if Christianity is true, we can have tremendous confidence to meet people of other faiths, to meet people of no faith, to ask them about where they are, and to introduce them to Jesus. And even when we don't know the answers to questions, it's a great question. I want to learn from that. But just that confidence that he had to help me to go out and talk to people who were Islamic, people who were atheists, people who were, you know, bitter, bitter and hurt by the church. And just engage in conversations about the Lord was just, was just an amazing thing. And the second thing he told me that day was, he said, the best advice I can give you is to be the best musician you can be, but make sure
Starting point is 00:35:31 your faith is growing faster than your music. And while there's no empirical way, there's no empirical measurement for that. It's the same for you as a journalist political superstar as a somebody out there who's a mother, somebody out there who's a manager, somebody out there who's a pastor. We want to be the best pastor or mother or manager or political megastar of the future. What I mean we can be, but we want to make sure our faith is going deeper and faster all the time. So that was amazing. We stayed in touch for six years and then eventually six years later he says, I want to introduce you to my niece. She needs some help with her music. All the guys around her. I think of wrong motives to be around her
Starting point is 00:36:08 and they're all young and I know you're a lot older and you'll know better and you can help with her brain. So he never trusted. Little did he know. Trusted me again. He never trusted me again after that one but you know what? We're 20 years married next year. We did him. You know, we did it. We didn't
Starting point is 00:36:24 we went, we were nominated for a Grammy this year for the Confessio album. And we're doing a sequel to that. Just looking at our Irish-American Roots. And my wife is going to sing at the Carnegie Hall. On this tour of my wife, I was going to sing, My Love is Like a Red Red Rose by Robbie Burns.
Starting point is 00:36:42 By Robbie Burns, who's Scottish, which is really a betrayal of her Irish roots that she would sing. No, no, she's not. Lennoxes and Berns are both Scottish. So we're Northern Irish, which means we're very, we support Ireland against Scotland at rugby, but actually 200 years ago, we're all Scottish. So the Northern Irish were Scottish.
Starting point is 00:36:59 Wow. So she's going to sing that. Everything I'm hearing about this Carnegie Hall thing is just, it's crushing to me that I cannot. be there. Do you know how Andrew currently... Hey baby, I'm on the radio.
Starting point is 00:37:13 Yeah, I can't talk. Do you know how Andrew Carnegie earned his first dime? How Andrew Carnegie earned his first dime, I do not. I do not. He was reciting a Robbie Burns poem. You're kidding. Yeah, yeah. Andrew Carnegie, after whom Carnegie Hall is named,
Starting point is 00:37:32 made his first dime. He was a millionaire back when that meant something, he recited a Robbie Burns poem. Do we know which poem it was? I actually don't know. I don't know. His most poem in America, I think, is Old Lang Zine, you know, for New Year. You sing Old Lang Zine. His most famous poem in Britain is called, in Scotland is called iPhone Kiss, which he, which was his final kiss to the woman who was the love of his life. And she was leaving him to go back to her husband and getting on a ship. This doesn't sound good. No, I mean, it's very, and so she said,
Starting point is 00:38:09 I need to go back to my husband and do the right thing, and that was his final case. And it's kind of very moving, except for the fact that he had a new girlfriend two days later. But the poem is still brilliant. I mean, he was. Oh, now that's a, that is a, there's a line.
Starting point is 00:38:25 There's a Robert Burns line, the great poet, Scottish poet Robert Burns. Oh, wad the gift, the gifty gie us to see out of cells as Ivers see us. And I don't know what it means, but it's beautiful. He had a completely pagan life, but he used a lot of biblical imagery. The winter has passed and the spring has come at last
Starting point is 00:38:46 and all those kind of things. It's great. Anyway. That was really depressing. Thank you, Keith. So your beautiful wife, to whom you're married for 20 years, that's amazing. She is going to sing
Starting point is 00:39:03 that poem as a song. She's doing a bunch of songs. She's got a new song called Scarlethor. We've a new project called Crossings coming out. She's singing a bunch of those songs. She's doing it first. She's finally going into some of the Christmas fun stuff in the first off.
Starting point is 00:39:20 She's doing Winter Wonderland this year. And then a bunch of our carols. She's just releasing a new single of the beautiful fifth century carol, let old mortal flesh keep silent, which I think is just extraordinary. Unbelievable. I wish all this were televised so that everybody can watch it who can't make it there.
Starting point is 00:39:41 It's fun. You know, on TBN. TBN do televise it. So every Christmas they televised it at some point. Well, Bob's your uncle. Tremendous. I'm actually, I'm very glad to hear that. So people need to go to getting music.com slash tour.
Starting point is 00:39:54 Now, in the past, when I've interviewed you, you've been on a tour bus. So you're actually home in the Nashville area right now? Yeah, we're just getting ready for things. Thanksgiving. By the way, isn't Thanksgiving incredible? Like as a European, as a European who comes here, like Thanksgiving is just an extraordinary thing. It's, I mean, even
Starting point is 00:40:13 even to the most, even to those who don't know the Lord, the idea of just pausing to say thank you. It's just, it's such a beautiful thing. You know, I wish we had it in other places in the world. Never, never, never, never grow tired of the gift that Thanksgiving
Starting point is 00:40:29 is in the American culture. It's just an extraordinary thing. Well, it's a, it's a profoundly Christian. Christian holiday, no matter how you slice it. It's, it's, uh, and, and, and I have to say that, uh, I've written about it in several of my books, uh, in my book, if you can keep it about America. I talk about squanto and it's, you, I'm sorry we're out of time because, uh, but what a nice place to stop. My friend Keith Getty, thank you for coming on.
Starting point is 00:40:55 Congratulations once again on this Christmas tour. Well, it's an absolute pleasure. Thank you. When the Lord. Mr. Milk toast, you'll get... Folks, welcome the show. You know at this time of year, we partner with CSI, Christian Solidarity International, to actually free slaves in Sudan.
Starting point is 00:41:33 Todd Chapman is with us to talk about. And Todd, you were saying off the air about the timing with Israel right now. Yeah, I just think I was thinking about this this morning as I was watching the news. I think all of our eyes have been fixed these recent days on the war that's happening between Israel and Hamas, but also what was going to happen with all of these hostages with these captives.
Starting point is 00:41:58 And thankfully, in the past few days, we've seen some of the begin to be freed. And I couldn't help Eric but think that, you know what, there are freedoms of people that have been enslaved for decades now happening every year. And I'm not minimizing. I'm celebrating actually what's happening in Hamas right now. But by the very token, we're rejoicing that these women and these captives have been set free.
Starting point is 00:42:23 We also want to remind you that you have an opportunity to participate in freeing people that have been captive for 20, 30 years now in North Sudan. And that's what CSI does every year. So I just think the timing of this is really great. But it was not lost on me that while, you know, the Hamas situation is getting all of this newsplay, tens of thousands of slaves are freed nearly every year by Christians in another part of the world and the freedom on both sides is just equally as beautiful. But I just thought that was a good reminder that what we're doing here is absolutely significant. And even though it may
Starting point is 00:42:57 not be played out of the mainstream media, God sees what his children are doing. And God rejoices and he fuels us and funds us to do this work. And so just wanted to offer that as a kind of a different camera angle on what we're inviting our listeners to do today. That's a good way of putting it. And I have to say, you know, the older you get, the more you realize the mainstream media is a joke. Like, they cover what they cover. And there's just an infinity of stuff that they don't cover. They don't cover this. This could be in the news every single day. There are people enslaved for years and years and years. Today, in 2023, there are slaves today. And you think the whole world would be talking about what can we do to get them out. This is insane. We can't let this happen
Starting point is 00:43:42 in this day and age. Is there anything we can do about it? not a peep. Obviously on this program, we talk about it because we know about it. And when you know about these things, I hope you talk about them. But I want to encourage my audience. Tell your friends about this. People are thinking, well, you know what? What do I give for Christmas? What do I do? Let me tell you, folks, when you realize that $250 can free a human being from slavery in Sudan, this is a reality. They're living this right now. while we're talking on this program, while you're going about your life, they are living in slavery. Hard for us to believe, but it's true. And we're here to tell you that you can do something about it. So I want to remind you, if you go to metaxis talk.com, you can give, there's a banner right at the top of the page, the CSI banner, Christian Solidarity International, right at the top of the page. And you can give, or you can call 888-253-35-22-88-8-8-8-8. 253, 3522. And I want to encourage you folks, you know, speaking about the mainstream media,
Starting point is 00:44:53 we are the media. You can take this clip, this, we put this stuff on Rumble. We will put this on social media. You can, you can send this to your friends. You can tell your friends about this program. Send these programs to your friends. Tell them, this is a great Christmas gift. or just send them the link to metaxistock.com and say, have you seen this for $250? This would be really meaningful for your church to get involved in. There are human beings waiting for us to do something about it, or they're waiting for God to move on the hearts of those who profess faith in him to do something about this. You can be that person. I would dare say it's God's will that we be those people.
Starting point is 00:45:38 So you can call 888-253, 3522, or just go to Metaxus. Talk.com. Metaxustalk.com. You'll see the information right there. God bless you as you give.
