Listening to the Eric Metaxe show? Well, welcome. Tune in and then move on to item number eight.
Starting point is 00:00:39 Skydiving with Chuck Schumer and AOC. Here now is Mr. Completed My Bucket List at age 12, Eric Matt, Texas. Hey folks, welcome to the program. Two weeks from today, the nation votes. Two weeks from today, we choose whether to go forward with a common sense candidate named Donald Trump, who loves America and wants America to flourish, and who has put together a team, RFK Jr., J.D. Vance, I got to say Elon Musk for sure,
Starting point is 00:01:21 Tulsi Gabbard, who really want to make America great again, who love this country, who believe in the founding principles of this country. That's on the one hand. On the other hand, we have Marxist maniacs. And, you know, in the past, people might say stuff like that and it would be sort of true. I'm sorry to say it's true. We're here. You have to understand what's at stake, folks.
Starting point is 00:01:47 You've got to understand what's at stake. And you've got to understand that people like David French and Russell Moore and others, Mike Pence, they have not, they've either not endorsed Donald Trump and don't care of Kamala Halts and Kamala Harris and Tim Walts win, or what, or they have openly endorsed Kamala Harris and Tim Walts, this is where we are. The American church could not be more divided. There are people in the American church that are so ignorant of what is going on that they would either not vote or they would actually advocate shockingly. You have to be like profoundly ignorant to advocate voting for Kamala Harris. But there are Christians and Christian leaders that
Starting point is 00:02:37 are that ignorant. And I've got to say, ignorant is not an insult. It's a fact. If you don't know the facts, if you don't know the details of where we are, of what people represent, you're capable of saying things like, well, I think this time we should vote for Kamala Harris. It's mind-bending to me, but it's a fact. And so I say it just so that you understand that there are people that They don't know how freedom works. I wrote about it in my book, if you can keep it. I talk about it all the time. How it works and how it has been sustained over 250 years and how you lose it.
Starting point is 00:03:07 That's where we are right now. If you don't understand that, well, you're not going to understand what's at stake in this election. Today, I fly down to Atlanta. I'm speaking to a group of pastors at TPUSA faith. That's tomorrow morning. This weekend, I will be flying to school. Spokane, Washington across the country, and then I'll be back in Atlanta at a Trump event next Monday. It's a crazy time. I'm cautiously optimistic. I meant to say, before I went on
Starting point is 00:03:40 to say all this, that in a few minutes, I'm talking to Keith Junta, who has written the first review of the Bonhoeffer film. He calls it a must-see film. I'm thrilled because, look, I'm so close to this. I've seen the film, you know, I, but I'm going to be talking to him about that in a few minutes. It's very important that the film be as good as it is and that people go see it. And I should say...
Starting point is 00:04:12 A lot of people, you know, like to see films around the movie, you know, around the holidays with their families, and this is a great film that you can see with family. Right. You can buy tickets in advance. So if you go to angel.com slash... Eric get discounted tickets, which is good. It's good to save money this day and age.
Starting point is 00:04:32 Angel.com slash Eric. Folks, write that down. Angel.com slash Eric. And I have to say, I got to comment on this. Yesterday, the progressive Christian media, these are people who hate my guts. I'm pretty sure they hate your guts. I'm pretty sure they're very confused. In fact, I know they're very confused.
Starting point is 00:04:55 but a lot of them published or wrote about a bunch of people claiming to be the relatives of Bonhoeffer, okay? These are progressive left-wing agnostics in Europe. So you know what their view is of Donald Trump in America and whatever. They came out denouncing me and even more shocking, worried about the film because it's, ladies and gentlemen, it is so crazy. Most of these people, just to be clear, are pro-Hamas, pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel. Think about the irony.
Starting point is 00:05:33 It brings the irony to a new level. Bonhofer literally died speaking up for the Jews. He literally died. He was murdered by the Nazis who hated the Jews because he spoke up for the Jews. Think about this, right? So there are people in his name denouncing me as a Christian nationalist, even denouncing the film, which I find hilarious,
Starting point is 00:06:01 I had nothing to do with the film, right? The director of the film is, I think he's progressive, he's whatever. It's a fantastic film, but like the idea that they would like lump the film in with what it's unbelievable lunacy, but it just shows you that these people, they don't think. I mean, they don't even know what is. Can somebody tell me what Christian nationalism is?
Starting point is 00:06:25 If I believe that America is a great nation and I'm patriotic about that, you're calling me a Christian nationalist, I guess. Like, nobody knows what it means because it means nothing. It's just a term designed to scare people about something. Like, oh, yeah, Trump is Hitler. If he ever gets in office, God forbid, oh, wait a minute. He was in office for four years. And did he jail his political opponents? I don't think he did.
Starting point is 00:06:52 did he act like authoritarian? No, I don't think he did. They act like he wasn't president and he, if he gets in there, oh, it's going to be scary. I mean, look, they said this in 2016. He gets in and, you know, no, he didn't do any of that. It's like, it's so crazy. So here you have pro-Hamas, anti-Israel people denouncing my Bonhofer book, denouncing, it's so crazy. The only way to fight it, folks, is to buy a copy of my Bonhofer book and read it. And you tell me, you tell me what the book gets wrong. For 14 years, I have said, if there's anything wrong, I will just change it. Like there's a typo, there's something wrong.
Starting point is 00:07:38 There's nothing. They can point to nothing. They're angry. When people are angry, they just kind of make stuff up. And I have to say, but it has never risen to the level of irony to have people claiming to be Bonhofer's relatives, right? Of course he had no kids, right? Claiming to be his relatives to speak for him denouncing me and Christian nationalism and whatever. They're just kind of freaked out. And these people, again, are like pro-Palestinian anti-Israel. Just think about this. That's not in the
Starting point is 00:08:15 article. They're not saying this in what they wrote. Of course they're not saying this. But they hate Israel. it's it's it's it's just left wing progressive lunatics who are upset about something and so they're kind of flailing so I just thought my goodness uh it's it's just you know uh if I had made the film I guess I could understand them they'd hate me they hate the film like the film like I the film was inspired by people who love Bonhofer and who learned to love Bonhofer when my book came out like 14 years ago so they said oh let's make a film about Bonhofer and it's It's a great film. But it's so amazing.
Starting point is 00:08:53 Anyway, I'm talking to Keith Junta in a couple of seconds about that. I don't want to forget before we get to Keith Junta and the Bonhoeffer film, the cruise, we have 110 people officially signed up. I want to tell you that the crews, the people putting together this, the crews have told me to tell you that in eight days, they make a decision and they basically no longer hold the rooms that they've been holding for us. So this is a way to force you to look into this now because if you don't, I can't guarantee what's going to be available. So they've held all these rooms. If you're interested or if you know anybody who's interested, and please share this because this is going to be so much fun.

Starting point is 00:12:27 I don't blame him because he's running here. I'm sitting here in the studio with my friend of over 30 years, Keith Junta. Keith, first of all, you're not just a guest on the program. You're working on the program. Now, you're working on this radio program. So if anything goes wrong, you share the blame. You have transitioned from lifelong friend to boss. Not exactly, but thank you.
Starting point is 00:12:52 Thanks for thinking of it that way. No, seriously, you're working on the program. But the reason you're on now, you're my guest right now, because you just wrote a review of the Bonhofer film. You saw the Bonhofer film. Now, this is a sneak peek, obviously. It's not coming out until November 22nd. but we're trying to get people to buy tickets early
Starting point is 00:13:14 because ladies and gentlemen it matters hugely to the success of the film if people buy tickets early if the theaters are filled on the opening weekend November 22nd it is a great film I have seen it
Starting point is 00:13:31 but you have written about it so what is your sense because I'm so close to it because I've seen it over time I've seen it versions of it. Now it's done. You saw the final version. So people can read your review at Winepatch.org.org. Winepatch.org. But, okay. What'd you think? Well, yeah, we got to see it together at the Tribeca screening. Yeah. It's an extraordinary film. It's beautiful. I mean,
Starting point is 00:14:04 from a film production standpoint, it's visually stunning. Yeah. And it's very muted. The lighting is a David Fincher kind of vibe? Oh, they have a big deal. I can't think of his name now, but they have a big deal, a DP, director of photography. They really get, he's a major name in the industry. I can't think of it now. I think he was the DP on Gladiator, no joke. So it's a big deal.
Starting point is 00:14:31 So the film looks like a great film. And you don't realize until, you know, if you watch a Hallmark film, you realize, oh, this was not done by Ingmar Bergman or Martin Scorsese. This has a certain look and the color. And, you know, like it doesn't look like a film film. This looks like a film film because it's made by people who are in that world. Yeah, because you think about they're placing you in that dark chapter of German history, of world history. And as soon as the film starts, you're in it.
Starting point is 00:15:05 You feel that. And it opens with Young Bond. And then it, the guy that played Bonhofer, I believe his name is Jonas Dasler. Jonas Dasler. He's a German actor. He's a big deal in Germany. All the actors in the film are major German actors. So when the film opens in Germany sometime in the spring, it's going to be a big deal.
Starting point is 00:15:27 These are, these are major actors in Germany. So I keep joking around. I say, so they have authentic German accents. In other words, they're speaking English. Obviously, the film's in English. but these are authentic German accents because all the actors are really German. And Jonas Dasler, he's a young man,
Starting point is 00:15:49 I don't know if he's 26 or 27, but he is a very big deal in the theater in Germany. He's been a theater actor, and it was kind of a big deal that he got to do this film. It was a big deal for the people making the film to get him. He had decided, I think he decided that he didn't want to do any projects for a year, take a year,
Starting point is 00:16:07 off or something and they managed to lure him to do it because it was such a great script. And so, yeah, that's Jonas Dostler who plays Bonhofer. And he plays the role beautifully. And I think I said to you right after the film, he's got this combination of a boyish smirk, this little smile. He's got that jaw line. And yet he had these deep, dark, sunken eyes. And so he was able to transmit the joy that Bonhofer had in his faith in Jesus,
Starting point is 00:16:45 in his purpose and his calling for what Christ had given him to do. And at the same time, you could see the pain and the suffering and the weight of the trial that he was carrying. He does a beautiful job. Beautiful job. You know, you're a very astute observer of film, Keith Junta. It's not like they say. It's not like they say like you're stoop. Like you're stupid.
Starting point is 00:17:10 No, honestly, those are some really keen observations because I've seen the film a couple times. But I hadn't thought of that. That's very true. Because when I go to the film, when I go to the movies, I want to be lost, right? I want to get caught up into the film and I'm not thinking about anything else. And that's what this film did. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:34 And I say it if a film doesn't. This one, you're instantly. in. And I'd actually even love to hear, maybe not now, because you are an expert and you wrote the book, you know, what? Well, the film is not, I mean, I've said this many things, the film is not based on my book. It's just a Bonhofer film. The producers say that they were inspired when they read my book back in 2010 to make a Bonhofer film. But it's, that's what's amazing to me about when you watch a film, a film in a book, they couldn't be more different. You can't do in a film what you do in a book. And so, you know, they leave stuff out. And so, you know, they leave stuff
Starting point is 00:18:07 out. They kind of, but it was, it was amazing, you know, you were there with Jill, your wife, and you're seeing this for the first time. And you and the others who were seeing it for the first time raved and raved. And I thought, because I'm so close to it, I can no longer, like, appreciate it the way I did when I first saw it. Yeah. And the timeliness of it, could there be a, I only wish it was coming out before the election. because it's that important. And I think there's going to be, I think we're going to see mischaracterizations, that they're going to see Bonhofer as fighting the Trump archetype, right?
Starting point is 00:18:50 That Hitler is Trump, and he's fighting this Christian nationalism. For people who believe Hitler is Trump, there's nothing you can do with those people. It couldn't be further from the truth. It's, you know, by the grace of God, Trump will be elected, and then they will over time see like, huh, he's not acting like Hitler. How weird. because we were so sure that he was a dictator. What a bizarre thing that he's not acting like Hitler.
Starting point is 00:19:13 Why isn't he? No, it's kind of funny. I think that's one of the things I love about the film is that it's not political. It's just a film about Bonhofer that, you know, you can read into it what you want. I obviously hope that it drives people to read my book because there's so much depth to Bonhofer. And in my book, I quote him constantly. And that's why people who criticize my book, I thought, well, you just, you're criticizing Bonhofer because I'm just quoting Bonhofer.
Starting point is 00:19:41 Right. Like read what he wrote. I quote his letters. Right. I quote his diary. I quote a lot of his letters and a lot of his diary, his journals, because I want people to see the person in my book. I think people who read Bonhofer and they see him as this high-brow academic he was. But you can't really get Bonhofer the person from those writings.
Starting point is 00:20:06 But when you read his letters to his family, to his friends, he's joking, you see a whole different side. And that, to me, is what the film captures, is this multifaceted person, this genius, but who also has a real soul and a heart. And they dropped in a lot of his famous quotes into really poignant scenes. So it made those quotes take on kind of flesh and story. Yeah. And I love that. One of the most moving chapters, both in the book in his life, but also in the film, was his time in Harlem. Oh. So he goes there as this brilliant, chosen theologian, and he goes into that black church, the Abyssinian Baptist Church, and that's where he encounters the Lord. And that's where he encounters the Holy Spirit. So he's at the dry, dusty union seminary. It's not even challenging him.
Starting point is 00:21:05 But he has an encounter with the Lord that changes everything in Harlem, right? Well, that's the hinge of his life. That's when he, and it's not that his theology really changes much. He changes. In other words, he was kind of getting, he never was wrong in, well, I shouldn't say he never, he never was wrong. He basically, but he is who he is, but something happens to him in Harlem that he realizes is we need to put our faith in action.
Starting point is 00:21:36 We need to live out our faith. And that's where the political comes in. He's like when Hitler, he sees Hitler rising, he's like, yes, we need, the church needs to be political. The church needs to stand against evil because the political and the evil of the Nazi politics is going to crush the church. It's going to destroy Germany. It's going to murder, as we now know, millions of Jews.
Starting point is 00:21:59 And he understands that it's the role. of the church to stand against that. And that was something that came to him in Harlem. He sees the black church. He sees that they are living out their faith. And also that their faith has this experiential side. They're not just worshiping this distant God, but they love God. They praise him in their singing. There's joy. And he did not see that in the white Protestant churches in New York. and he definitely didn't see it in the Lutheran churches in Germany. So it changes everything for him. But we're going to go to a break.

People can read your review at wine patch.org. And I just said before the break, you can get discounted tickets at angel.com slash Eric. Folks, take advantage of this, please. Angel.com slash Eric. All right. So, we're going to get.
Starting point is 00:25:55 Further impressions of the film. I mentioned that it opens with young Bonhofer and his brother, Hans. No, not Hans. Well, the young Bonhofer. Yeah, Walter. Walter, thank you. So, yeah, Bonhofer, the film opens with the, like, 9-year-old or 8-year-old Bonhofer being chased by his brother Walter. Walter, I missed.
Starting point is 00:26:20 Who is killed in World War I. That's right. And that is a turning point in his life. And I remember when I wrote about it in my book, it's very hard because this was, I mean, to lose a beloved brother. It really changed Bonhofer. I think it really kind of sobered him up. Like when you're, you know, even at age 12, suddenly you become a man because you're facing death. And you see the relationship that they had in that he was Dietrich's hero and how tenderly Walter loved his little brother.
Starting point is 00:26:52 and they were playing and hiding and running. And one of the first scenes is at the funeral, if you remember. And I used this scene to kind of frame my whole review because I thought it was so powerful. He's sitting at the piano at the family reception after the funeral, playing Walter's favorite song. Okay, now people don't know this. I mean, if you read my book, you might even not remember.
Starting point is 00:27:17 Bonhofer, no kidding, was a very... virtuoso musician, virtuoso to the point where he even explored becoming a musician, not a theologian, right? He was at some point thinking he was so good, so much of a virtuoso on the piano, that he explored that. But then he decides, no, I want to be a theologian,
Starting point is 00:27:40 I want to be a pastor. But so here you have him at the piano as a kid, whatever he is. I'm trying to remember if it was 1918, so he would have been, yeah, he's 12 years old. and he's playing Walter's favorite song. So that's at the funeral of Walter who just died in World War I.
Starting point is 00:27:58 Yeah. So he's playing the song on the piano and he gets the sense nobody's listening and he darts from the piano, runs to his room in tears, crying. And his mother comes to console him, the mother that's just lost her son. Dietrich, what bothers you? What's the matter? And he said, no one was listening. No one cared.
Starting point is 00:28:22 And I thought that, that was it. He was, his whole life was trying to get people to hear the notes of heaven, the truth, the things that he knew to be true about the Nazis, about the church, what the church wasn't doing. And he always felt not enough we're listening. And nobody cared. And his mother said, no, no, no, Dietrich, they were listening. They were just caught up in their own thoughts. and I thought, what a picture that is.
Starting point is 00:28:53 And I'm sure the filmmakers put that there specifically. Well, I'll say it again that, you know, Todd Comeranicki, who wrote the screenplay, you know, he's a genius. He's been in the film world for many, many, for decades. He directed the film. He wrote the screenplay for Sully, the Clint Eastwood film. He's a major filmmaker. That's why it's such a big deal that the producers were able to get him to make the film. He worked on Elf?
Starting point is 00:29:19 And, oh, yeah, he was a producer on Elf, that's right. So, yeah, he's a major filmmaker. So, yeah, there are these levels of things going on. Yeah. And you just pulled one of them out that here you have, you know, Bonhoff, it's the 12-year-old Bonhoffer or 11 or whatever he is. And he's the same Bonhofer that you're going to see later on, but you see it from a different angle.
Starting point is 00:29:41 And just that sense that no one's listening. Nobody's heeding his warnings. And I tie that to the scene. if you remember when he gives that great sermon, and he's thundering truth from the pulpit, and fellow clergymen are getting up and walking out. Congregants are getting up and walking out. And you could, again, feel that saying, they're not listening. They don't care. They don't hear what I'm saying. And if you remember, he's greeting people at the door as they're leaving the church. And this one person leans in really close and went, thank you.
Starting point is 00:30:20 It's been a long time since I've heard the truth. But they said it in a way that they were afraid of who might hear around them. And again, it's that picture that the church is either afraid, we're in fear, we're not listening, we don't care. But there are those few who are so grateful when they hear a pastor preach the truth. from the pulpit. And that scene was very telling for me because you would think you would be boldly thanking him, but they lean in and whisper it because they're afraid. Because the Nazis at this point was instilling fear and control. And we see many of the clergy who fall under that spell.
Starting point is 00:31:04 And we see it today. I've talked to Naomi Wolf many times. And she says, people come up to me at certain events and they kind of whisper to me like, I'm on your side, but I just don't want to, I don't want people to know. Well, thank you very much for being a coward so I can get sued and get people attack me. You know, that's, but, but, but it's, look, it's always been like this in these times in history. We're living through a time in history like this right now, which is why it's so amazing that the Bonhofer film would come out now. Because it is speaking to us where we live. And these observations are extraordinary.

You can find his writing at winepatch.org.
Starting point is 00:33:32 Winepatch.org. So you're talking about your review of the upcoming Bonhofer film. So, yeah, what else did you observe about the film? Yeah, I also want to say it's going to be intercessors for a major. So watch for it there and at the stream. It's going to be there as well. The review. The review. Yeah. It's going to be at stream.
Starting point is 00:33:56 It will be. It's not yet. It's not yet, but I wanted to say that. Yeah. Another scene that I loved was when he was with his twin sister, Sabine. You remember they're lying in bell. Sabina, yeah. The German pronunciation is Sabina.
Starting point is 00:34:12 So yeah, he had a twin sister. And oh, that's another part. part of the story. It's kind of amazing. I mean, they don't get into this in the film, but in my book I tell the story of she marries a man who's ethnically Jewish. Now he accepts Jesus, he's a
Starting point is 00:34:29 Christian, but he's ethnically Jewish. So imagine Bonhofer's twin sister that he was in the womb with marries a Jewish man and they and their children. This is his sister, his brother-in-law, and their kids whom he loves, are attacked
Starting point is 00:34:45 you know, as Jews. So he has a personal stake in what the Nazis are doing. Yeah, absolutely. But in that endearing scene, they're sharing a cigarette, passing it back and forth, remembering when they were children, and they had that eternity, eternity, eternity. And then it shifts. And she says, Bonhoff, she says, Dietrich,
Starting point is 00:35:09 something's coming, something unstoppable, to which Dietrich, assures her nothing's unstoppable. And he believed that. That was another thread that I felt like they put in there. Because when the plot to kill Hitler is introduced, he instantly says, send me Hans. That's where Hans was. Send me Hans. That's his other brother-in-law, Hans Dainyi, who was one of the key figures in the Abver, German military intelligence. But, okay, so to be clear, so this is now the adult Bonhoeffer.
Starting point is 00:35:44 He's come back from New York. And he and his twin sister, they see the Nazis are on the rise. And it is interesting to me that they can feel what's coming. And part of what makes Bonhofer such an interesting figure is that his family was so well connected. They could see behind the scenes. They knew the top players. And they would hear stuff that your average German would never hear. You know, it would be like having a family where, you know, so-and-so works at CBS and the other.
Starting point is 00:36:17 one works at the White House and like you're hearing stuff that most people aren't hearing. And, you know, back when CBS was actually a thing. But I'm just saying like Bonhofer hears this stuff. And so you're right, though, in that scene when she says, I think there's something we can't stop. And when he says that, when I give all my speeches and lectures and sermons on Bonhofer, I say that you've got to understand. Bonhofer knew that if the German church had stood.
Starting point is 00:36:47 they could have stopped it. That's the tragedy of it, is that he knew they could have stopped the Nazis. If the church had stood, the church refused to stand. They were merely religious. They said, no, we just want to have our nice church services. We don't want to get involved in politics. Well, yeah, then evil takes over and millions are murdered. Thank you, church.
Starting point is 00:37:07 You know, I just recently read the Book of Jude again. Long time since I considered the Book of Jude. and it is a strong warning against evil men who infiltrate, who come in, and from the inside out bring corruption, and that they must be stopped. And I thought about that when I was thinking about that scene, and just the fact that Dietrich knew he had such resolve. He knew that it could be stopped, like he said, and he knew that this was an evil that he could stop. there was another quote when somebody was almost mockingly saying, well, is this the first evil ruler since the beginning of scripture? And he said, no, it's the first one I can stop. He wasn't able to stop the Old Testament figures or Caesar or Herod. But this was the first one
Starting point is 00:38:07 that was on the planet at the same time. And he knew nothing is unstoppable. What resolve? Yeah. What resolve? Yeah. No, look, there's a reason Bonhofer is such a towering figure. When you get to know him, his intellect is amazing, but his faith is, it's a solid faith. And so people often have asked me, like, where do you think he got his courage from? And I think, like, if you know God and you know that what God says is true, you instantly have courage.
Starting point is 00:38:40 Other people look at it and say, you have courage, but it comes out of your faith. knew God is God. He knew God has called him to speak out. And it's a whole, it's a whole different thing. Yeah, absolutely. What else from the film? The scene at the gallows, the way the film ends, oh my gosh. I mean, I don't think there was a dry cheek in the screening room at that last scene. They have him, I don't remember from your book, if he led communion on the day. Well, Because in the movie they had him. It's the day before. It's the day before.
Starting point is 00:39:18 This is all true. This is what's so amazing. Yeah. In my book, at the end of the book, I talk about how they're being driven around in this. It's a whole story. But they end up in the schoolhouse. And they're, you know, they've got their prisoners. But they didn't know where to go.
Starting point is 00:39:31 And the bus has taken them around. So they stopped in a schoolhouse one night. He performs communion. Like, this is not made up. This is really. This actually happened. They're witnesses. They wrote about it.
Starting point is 00:39:41 That's why I put it in my book. This is true. So he does a communion service. And it's like a Sunday and he preaches to this little group of prisoners. It's unbelievable this actually happened. And they put it in the film and one guard. And there was a guy, they don't mention it in the film, but in my book, Cochoran, who was kind of an atheist. He attends this.
Starting point is 00:40:05 It's so beautiful. And that's when, like at the end of that, they say, you know, Barnhofer, prisoner Barnhofer, come with me. and so that's when they drive him to Flusenberg and when he's executed. This is, you know, this is amazing history. It's beautiful. And so I'm just,
Starting point is 00:40:22 I'm so thrilled, Keith, that you saw the film, that you reviewed the film. I hope people will read your review. It'll be at the stream, but right now it's at winepatch.org. I'll share it on my social media just because it's like the first review of the film,
Starting point is 00:40:38 and I'm excited, winepatch.org. And I want to remind people, before we go, you can get discounted tickets to the film. It's got to open big on November 22nd, folks. Please take this seriously. It's a great film. Angel.com slash Eric for discounted tickets.
Starting point is 00:40:53 Go to angel.com slash Eric. Keith Junta, thank you. Thank you. Hey, folks, before we continue, I got to say, Chris, we were talking earlier about this, but I find it funny that like the ultra-left immediately hated my Bonhoeffer book when it came out. And you realize that these are bitter, usually bitter academics, very, very progressive, usually agnostics, like the Bonhofer academicians, you know, these people that spent their career on Bonhoffer, they write books that nobody reads, basically, right?
Starting point is 00:42:00 That it's very intellectual, it's impossible to read. and they were bitter because my book was selling, you know. And I just think, how crazy, right? You think that they would be grateful that somebody has, you know, gotten everybody excited about Bonhoeffer, but instead they feel obliged to denounce it as like right-wing propaganda, whatever it is. And you kind of have to laugh.
Starting point is 00:42:25 Like, it's so crazy. The article to read about it a little bit on Twitter that was posted. And the first picture that came up, the individual may or may not have been wearing a nose ring. And I feel like I could smell the patchouly from the pitch. But yeah. But look, no, it's just tribalists. They're tribalists.
Starting point is 00:42:45 They're just kind of like, you know, it's kind of like the Orange Man bad logic. Like, there's no logic. It's just a lot of emotion and stuff. And I think that they're, anyway, it's just madness. I am so excited about the film that is coming out. And folks, I know we've shared it before, but Angel Studios, oh, I think, yeah, like the progressive left lunatics, they're upset because the distributor of the film is Angel Studios. They see Angel Studios as, you know, I don't know, it's just unbelievable. It's so funny to me.
Starting point is 00:43:25 It's so funny to me. if you folks this is just where we are in america i think you have to ignore it you have to laugh and you have to move on yeah they made the chosen uh series it's literally just like the new testament that's very tribal yeah yeah that's that's offensive to the progressive left well look they're atheists you know marxist secular they're it's it's the standard crowd but it's anyway uh i want to mention again uh in case anybody missed it angel dot com slash Eric. They're offering discounted tickets to the film. I keep saying the film needs to open very big on November 22nd. That's when it comes out. And I'm asking you folks, please, seriously, please buy tickets early angel.com slash Eric. These are discounted tickets. If you can afford it, buy out a theater. Send your youth group. This is a family film. This is a film to see with the whole family.
Starting point is 00:44:30 And as Keith Junta has said, and many others have said, I mean, so many who saw it, it's a beautiful film. I mean, it is a beautiful, beautiful film. The guy who wrote the screenplay who directed it, you know, he and I are not on the same page politically or whatever. I don't care. He made a great Bonhofer film. And people need to know, this is a great Bonhofer film for everybody, for every American. So don't listen to any nonsense, you know. It's a historical drama.
Starting point is 00:45:01 It's a biography. It's not like, you know, he doesn't throw a MAGA hat on in the third act. But I mean, it's so funny because it's such a great film that you just have to be nuts to like attack it or to attack. People, listen, people are nuts. So I just want to say go to angel.com slash Eric. And also I want to be clear. I'm going to keep saying it. We have a new Socrates in the city book out.
