Hey, folks, if you know me or you listen to this program, you know that one of the most important things to me in my life is this. this issue of how faith intersects with American freedom. I have confessed many times my ignorance on that subject up until I read Oz Guinness's book,
Starting point is 00:00:59 which came out, I guess it was in 2014 or 2015, called the Free People's Suicide. When I read that book, some pennies dropped, my mind was blown, and it led me to write my book, if you can keep it, the forgotten promise of American liberty. And I have had just a burning passion ever since I wrote that book to communicate to my fellow Americans and to the whole world, frankly, the concept of how faith in the God of the Bible is inextricably intertwined with liberty, liberty on the American model. We have been really, we've allowed these ideas. is, which are central, as central as it gets. We've allowed them to evaporate during my lifetime so that
Starting point is 00:01:48 especially young people aren't really aware of how what we have, which is so vital, how liberty is beautiful, and how most people aren't even aware quite what it is and how hard one it is and where it comes from. And there is nothing more important, frankly, to the restoration of liberal in the world, starting with this country, then understanding this idea. And one of the folks who understands this idea extraordinarily well and who's living his life to promote it is Rick Green. He is the founder of Patriot Academy. He's been on this program before.
Starting point is 00:02:32 Rick Green, welcome. Hey, Eric, good to be back, man. Thanks for having me. There is literally nothing more important than this. So I want to know what is your journey when you talk about. I mean, you're a public Christian, and you talk about biblical citizenship, that if you're going to take the Bible seriously, it leads to how you behave as an American citizen. But first of all, quick question, what is the Patriot Academy before we get into your journey in founding it? Yeah, man, I started it back when I was a legislator in Texas and just frustrated with where we were going and how little of the foundation we had and how little people knew what you just described, which is the secret.
Starting point is 00:03:11 sauce, the secret ingredients to what made America great in the first place. And Patriot Academy now teaches people that secret sauce. So whether it's our biblical citizenship course, being taught in churches across the country, or our constitutional defense course, being taught in gun clubs and, you know, places like that across the country to teach the Second Amendment, it's all about going back to the founding formula and say, hey, why did America become the most successful, most powerful, most free, most benevolent nation in history? There has to be a reason. There has to be a cause for the effect. and we just lost that completely. I mean, the tyranny we saw over the last two years,
Starting point is 00:03:44 these petty, tiring governors, people being willing to give up their freedom, those were horrible, but they were just symptoms. They were symptoms of the underlying cause that had been festering for decades, which is civic and biblical ignorance. We don't know the formula anymore, and that's what we're trying to bring back to rebuild those foundations. And obviously, the reason that it went away, you know, folks, let's be honest, we only notice things sometimes when they're gone or they're nearly gone,
Starting point is 00:04:09 because we don't realize they're going away until suddenly you think, hey, where is that thing? In my lifetime, because of Hollywood and because of the culture, the drift from the 60s, we adopted this kind of anti-American narrative. And like all lies, there's plenty of truth baked into it. That's why we believe it. So when you talk about the way this country dealt with the slavery issue, when you talk about the way this country dealt with the Native Americans,
Starting point is 00:04:38 there are plenty horrible sick sins in our history. So that's right. That's true. But in dealing with it from the 60s onward, we kind of got stuck in the negative narrative. And instead of saying, like, we want to fix these things, we have fixed these things, we desire to change what we did wrong. We desire to repent and to get it right and to be faithful to the founder's vision. Instead of that, we kind of got caught in this negative narrative.
Starting point is 00:05:06 And that has washed over the culture. it's basically an anti-American Marxist narrative, which aims to destroy America. And by the way, when you destroy America, you know, Dr. King talked about our founding documents as promissory notes. In other words, he spoke about them positively, that they got this right in these documents. Have we lived them out? No, let's live them out. But instead, we have a new narrative that's come in that says all the founders were corrupt.
Starting point is 00:05:33 They didn't write anything worth studying. we're going to blow it all up and do something else. And we have to be blunt. You can't. The wise voices over the centuries have understood this is what Lincoln called the last best hope of earth. In other words, in terms of governments, this is the best we've ever seen. He called America God's almost chosen people.
Starting point is 00:05:56 In other words, God has given us a holy burden in this country. And if we don't know that, we just kind of let it drift. And so we have drifted to a place where most people don't appreciate it. this and we're folks like Rick Green, founder of the Patriot Academy and I and some others are trying to say, folks, we need to wake up yesterday. This is absolutely crucial. The insane chaos erupting everywhere is a result of we took our eye off the ball. So tell my audience, Rick, again, what exactly is the Patriot Academy? How can people get plugged into that before we get into more? Well, part of it is just our approach. You know, what you just mentioned is so important.
Starting point is 00:06:34 and we too often go to the two extremes. Either everything in America is bad, or we have this polyana gloss over the negative and the sins. And what we say is, look, you've got to teach the good, the bad, and the ugly. You've got to show all of it. Because when you do, when you actually step back and you look at it in the context of history, the American story is absolutely amazing despite those sins. The whole world had those sins.
Starting point is 00:06:54 The whole world was dealing with slavery. Every nation on the planet had it. And the truth is, when you really teach the total history, you're amazed to find out that America actually was the first to end the slavery. trade. We beat England by three weeks. We were the fourth nation to end slavery completely after a war that had 600,000 casualties. There's 90 nations still that haven't ended slavery. And so when you get that full big picture and you look at the progress made by a Lincoln and by an MLK when they were quoting from the declaration almost as much as they were the Bible, and you look at the progress that we had
Starting point is 00:07:24 even after the 60s in terms of racial reconciliation. And then you look at how much we've stepped back and gone backwards. Now we're judging each other by color of skin rather than content of character, doing the opposite of what MLK wanted because we don't know the history. You just described it perfectly. People take a kernel of truth and they say, well, this founding father had slaves, so they're automatically evil. Instead of going, oh, wow, this founding father who had slaves worked his entire life to try to end slavery, talked about the evils of slavery. We don't tell that whole story. This is at the heart of cancel culture, and it's anti-biblical. And I'll put it this way. MLK was an adulterer, okay, folks. You don't cancel somebody.
Starting point is 00:08:04 for a sin. You look at what they were doing, okay? Thomas Jefferson, we know, George Washington, slave owners. We know that's wrong. We know that's evil, but you don't wipe them out. You know, it's kind of like discovering that Isaac Newton was a sinner. So calculus is stupid and I don't believe in gravity. That's not right.
Starting point is 00:08:29 You have to have a biblical view that says human beings are sinners and there's grace. and it's a little complicated, but we have fallen into this Marxist, anti-biblical, anti-human, anti-American trap in the culture where we're canceling people, we're finding what they did wrong. So there are plenty people, some of them cultural Marxists, some of them actual white supremacists, they would love to cancel Martin Luther King Jr. But when you read a letter from a Birmingham jail,
Starting point is 00:08:59 when you read other things that he said and that he did, you say, wait a second, this man was used. used by God remarkably. David was used by God remarkably. I don't think David was perfect. We need to have a biblical view. And that's part of the larger narrative that we have lost in America. And you guys at the Patriot Academy are trying to wake people up to that.
Starting point is 00:09:20 What is the website, by the way, for Patriot Academy? Patriot Academy.com. And Eric, what you just said is so spot on. I was shocked. You know, I've been studying the Founding Fathers for 30 years. I was shocked to find out that they were human. It's such a bizarre thing. It doesn't mean there's not a price, folks.
Starting point is 00:09:36 We know that, right? That we take these things seriously, okay? I don't think adultery and slave-owning are like no problem. But we have to look at the bigger picture. We'll be right back to- And what God can do with fallen people, right? Well, that's the point, and that's all he's got to work with. We're talking to Rick Green.
Starting point is 00:09:53 You can go to patriot academy.com. We'll be right back. In case you haven't been paying attention, the Biden administration has caused a financial crisis, and they have no clue how to fix it. Oil prices have skyrocketed, and when oil prices go up, the cost of transportation and shipping spikes, leading the prices of goods to rise. And when we're already seeing record inflation, that's the last thing we need. Our economy is in trouble, and you need to take steps to protect yourself.

I'm talking to Rick Green, like the color. And he is the head of Patriot Academy. go to Patriot Academy.com. You are also the co-host of the National Daily Radio Program, Wall Builders, live with our friend David Barton, who has just been a hero in the midst of the
Starting point is 00:12:40 madness of the last couple of decades of trying to restore a biblical vision of America, an American vision of America. If people go to Patriotacadacademy.com, what do they find there? Is there something they can sign up? Is this series of courses? What do you have there? Yeah, the number one thing I recommend is becoming a Constitution coach and hosting classes in your home or at your church or wherever in your community. It's easy, it's free, and it's actually fun, believe it or not. Our courses are the only Constitution classes in which you will not fall asleep. We make them exciting and they're applicable. It's all about showing people, hey, the system works if we work it.
Starting point is 00:13:15 We do, in fact, have a great foundation and wonderful founding documents, but we've got to bring them back to life. Get rid of the court institution, come back to the actual constitution and teach people how to do that in their communities. And it's fun. So Patriot Academy.com to do that. If you've got young people that you want to be trained, that's our flagship program, 16 to 20. 25-year-olds, we take them into state capitals, put them in the chair, put them in the committee room, and teach them biblical worldview and constitutional governance at the same time. And then lastly, we have our constitutional defense course, which is handgun defense and
Starting point is 00:13:44 constitution training combined into one. So you can learn to defend your family while also learning the history of the Second Amendment and why it exists. This is amazing stuff, Rick. I really am just in awe that you are doing this because we need this so desperately in the country. You know and I know. I've just written a book called Letter to the American Church, where I talk about, not in these kinds of specific necessarily, but this, this incredibly harmful lie has crept in to much of the church in America that we're not supposed to be political, that somehow our politics are supposed to be kept separate from our faith, or faith is supposed to be kept from our politics? And you think, not only is that not true, that's out of the pit of
Starting point is 00:14:24 hell. If you do not bring your faith into your politics, if you don't understand that God doesn't see a dividing line, God wants you to bring truth everywhere into the political process, into who you are as a citizen, into what you say publicly. If you don't get that, that's not biblical. But we have bought into this, just as I say in my book, Letters the American Church, just as the German Church bought into this in the early 30s. They had bad, but they thought valid, theological reasons to say, Romans 13, we're going to take a pass on that. We're going to let Hitler take over, and that's what God's will is for us to do. It was the devil's will, and they did it, and it's been happening in America. And if people don't wake up to this and understand, folks,
Starting point is 00:15:12 it is on you. When there's a famous phrase, silence in the face of evil is itself evil, not to act is to act, not to speak, is to speak. God will not hold us guiltless. Every single one of us is on the hook. that if we take a pass and say, I'm not going to get involved in this. I'm not going to bring that up. I'm not going to – folks, God judged Germany. They're hanging their heads nine decades later. They are hanging their heads in shame because they missed God. Some good people missed God.
Starting point is 00:15:41 And there's some good people are missing God right now. So there is nothing more central than this because America has been holding up the torch of freedom in a flawed way for a long time. And people around the world have looked to us. And somehow even people in general, churches have been persuaded like, well, I'm just going to sit this one out. That is not the voice of God. And so I get excited when you talk about being a constitution coach, biblical citizenship. This is crucial. This is the delivery system for this stuff. Once people begin to understand this stuff, they're going to wonder, how have I gotten away with blowing this off for all these years?
Starting point is 00:16:17 I don't deserve to live in a country where I'm not doing anything to keep it free. But I want to get to your story. How did you get to where you are today to where you're the head of the Patriot Academy? And what is your story? Where did you grow up? And how did you come to see these things? Well, first of what you were just saying, if I could, I mean, what you're talking about, we see that every day I hear stories of people going through this class and saying exactly what you just said. How in the world did I miss this?
Starting point is 00:16:41 How did I not know these truths? How did I let the lie cause me to put my faith in a box and only allow my faith to apply to certain things in life and literally separate the biggest things in life. And you know, you mentioned David Barton. I mean, initially his book, Myth of Separation in Church and State 30 years ago became original intent and it absolutely opened the door for people to get educated on these things.
Starting point is 00:17:04 And now I love seeing Supreme Court justices and everybody else quote from the things that he was pushing and teaching 30 years ago. And of course, we teach all those things in the courses as well. But for me, it was really out of frustration as a legislator, a young legislator in Texas 20 years ago and just realizing that, you know, Most people aren't grounded.
Starting point is 00:17:20 They can't reach back into foundational principles. And they were silent on the major issues of the day. And in fact, that quote you just gave, I learned that quote from you in your book on Bonhofer years ago when I read that. And now I use that everywhere and teach that even in the classes because even out of James, we know when you know what is right and don't do it, that is sin. And so many people today know that the culture is crumbling before them and they want to know what to do.
Starting point is 00:17:45 They know in their gut something's wrong, but they don't know what to do. So these Constitution classes give people a chance to come together in their community, learn the truth, learn action steps, and he gives them hope every week they come back going, wow, there is an answer. There's a way to do this, and there's something I can actually do. So I wanted to do for other people with Patriot Academy, what David Barton did for me. When he brought me on when I was a young legislator, taught me all those things, put me out there on the road speaking and doing those things, other people would come to me
Starting point is 00:18:10 and say, hey, I want to be a part of the solution, but I don't know what to do. So we created these Constitution coach programs and Constitution classes. so that everybody can have a vehicle. And now, Eric, be encouraged, man, 14,000 Constitution coaches now at Patriot Academy all over the nation doing this. Young people that have come through our program are now elected to school boards, city council, state legislatures. We've got some of our coaches and people through our class that are now in Congress like Lauren Boehbert and Burgess Owens and people like that. So it's really good to see people taking these truths. They're the minority right now.
Starting point is 00:18:40 But, man, they are starting to push the whole system in the right direction. And we just need more people to do it at the local level. That's where it's critical, and that's what Patriot Academy equips people to do. Well, when you talk about British Owens and Lauren Bobert, I mean, there are just a handful of people that they are on fire. They get this stuff, and they give me hope for America. And one of the reasons I want to have you on, Rick Green, founder of Patriot Academy, is to give people hope to say, folks, you have no idea what is going on out there, who is being trained this minute, who is getting activated and excited this minute about living out their faith in such. a way that it blesses the nation and that blesses the world. You don't think there are people around the world hoping that Americans wake up and save our democracy, save our republic for
Starting point is 00:19:26 their sake. If you're a Uyghur Muslim in a death camp in China, don't you hope that there might be some Christians out there in a place like America who actually believe Jesus defeated death on the cross and they're living out their faith fearlessly? Because you know it will affect you, just like people in the Soviet gulag, when they heard Reagan say, Mr. Gorbachev tear down this wall. They said there are people out there who really believe, who really care, who are willing to fight. And I know that that's part of where we are right now. We're in a battle.
Starting point is 00:19:59 And people every day are getting this stuff. The penny drops and they go, how have I missed this? I need to get busy. You referenced James earlier in my new book, Letter to the American Church. I was going to title the book, Faith Without Works is Dead. because I said, how have we in the evangelical church, how have we possibly missed this, that God says, I don't care about your quote-unquote faith.
Starting point is 00:20:24 If you do not live out your faith, if I don't see it in your works, I know you have no faith. So don't fool me and tell me, well, I go to this church, I believe in this. This is the statement on the church's website, that's what I believe. The Lord says, I know you don't believe that
Starting point is 00:20:39 because you're not living that. You're not living self-sacrificially. And this is kind of the, the major disconnect of our time where I just believe God is saying, if we will wake up now and there are people waking up every day and reverse course and turn from our wicked ways, the Lord will have mercy, but if we don't, he won't. It's an amazing thing.
Starting point is 00:21:04 And Eric, the left knows this too. That's why, as they see the church awakening right now, you see all these attacks and these goofy phrases like Christian nationalist and all these things they're trying to make you think, oh, if you bring your faith into the public square, you must want a theocracy. You want everybody to have to be a Christian to live in America. Nobody I know wants a theocracy.
Starting point is 00:21:23 We all want people to live out their faith, let their faith be salt and light in every community. And guess what? The Muslim, the Buddhist, the atheist, they all benefit. Whenever Christians are salt and light, and we come back to those Christian foundations, it's good for everyone because everyone gets to live their freedom. And that's what the left, they don't want that.
Starting point is 00:21:42 They absolutely do not want that. So they're trying to stop Christians from getting engaged to anyone listening to the sound of my voice right now. If you're a person of faith, do not be intimidated by that. You take your faith into the public square. You let it inform the way you vote. If you're going to go run for office, you let it inform the way you vote as a legislator or as a city council member or a member of a school board. But get engaged and do your duty under the Constitution, but also do it biblically. That's what being a biblical citizen is all about.
Starting point is 00:22:08 And by the way, we've got to be clear here. ladies and gentlemen, if you care about black lives and you do not speak out against this Marxist evil organization called Black Lives Matter, you have been gamed, you have been silenced, and you are going to harm black communities. Think about that. You're going to have to face God and say, well, because I was afraid of what some people would say about me. I kept my mouth shut. God commands us to speak the truth in love for the sake of the marginalized. not because we don't care about them, exactly the opposite. So we have been silenced, and I talk about this in the book.
Starting point is 00:22:48 It's just how little it takes to get people to shut up, throw a name at them, throw a thing at them, oh, you're a Christian nationalist, you're this or that, your white supremacists, oh, okay, I'll shut up. God forbid that we would shut up. We'll be right back talking to Rick Green, founder of Patriot Academy, Patriot Academy.com. Tell me, Eric, why is relief factors so successful at lowering or eliminating pain. I'm often asked that question. The owners of Relief Factor tell me they believe our bodies were designed to heal. That's right, designed to heal, and I agree with them. So the doctors who formulated relief factor for them selected the four best ingredients, yes, 100% drug-free ingredients, each helps your
Starting point is 00:23:27 body deal with inflammation. Each of the four ingredients deals with inflammation from a different metabolic pathway. And that right there, approaching from four different angles, may be why so many people find such wonderful relief. So if you've got back pain, shoulder, neck, hip, knee, or foot pain from exercise or just getting older, you should order the three-week quick start discounted to only 1995 to see if it will work for you. It works for me. It has for about 70% of the half a million people who've tried it and have ordered more. Go to relieffactor.com or call 800 for relief to find out about this offer. Feel the difference. Folks, I am talking to Rick Green, founder of Patriot Academy, Patriot Academy.com. I hope you'll go there. I hope you'll become a Constitution coach.
Starting point is 00:24:29 Americans need to wake up. And, you know, part, Rick, of what gets me choked up is when I wrote my book, If You Can Keep It, I revisited some of the stories of some of these patriots who gave their lives. Nathan Hale is the one that chokes me up. There was, for two centuries, Americans knew that this 21-year-old man died for liberty, died for his country. We would celebrate him and know who he was, and we would memorize the poem Paul Revere's Ride by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. And we would remind ourselves over and over in the culture of the nobility of this idea of liberty and how we have to stand against tyranny and how we have to face death and some people have to die. And that's what makes us who we are as Americans, is what makes us willing to live out our faith, to live out, to pay the price of liberty.
Starting point is 00:25:22 many of us have given our lives over the decades and the centuries. And we used to teach that in the culture. We used to teach that in the public schools and all the schools. And by the way, folks, these things are true. But we've ceased to do that. We've ceased to inspire young people especially about, look how beautiful this is, that this person valued doing the right thing more than anything. And that's why we got to have this country that we have today.
Starting point is 00:25:51 So it's an amazing thing. And I think teaching that history, which is a big part of what David Barton has done at wallbuilders and you're involved with that every day, that is part of the key is getting people excited about our history. No doubt, man. And by not doing it, by not honoring it. I mean, we dishonor them by not living out that freedom. You know, Lincoln said it best in the Gettysburg Address. How do you honor it?
Starting point is 00:26:10 You have an increased devotion, he said, to the cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion. So if we're not out there engaged in this, if we're not spending at least a little bit of our life, fortune and sacred honor, to preserve freedom. And that's all we ask people to do. Say, listen, give a little bit of your life, two hours a week. You pick one night a week, do a constitution class, get your friends together, your fortune. Donate to good candidates, donate to good causes, and sacred honor, be willing to stand up and be honorable and speak truth, even if you get canceled out there. And Eric, one thing, if I could say about these classes, when I say they're applicable, perfect example of this. So the FBI raid on Trump's house, right? Everybody's talking about that now.
Starting point is 00:26:47 Believe it or not, David Barton teaches in the second week of biblical citizenship, a year and a half ago we did this. And he teaches on, when you go to that workbook, he teaches on writs of assistance, which is essentially what this was on Trump, this blanket warrant, any piece of paper almost, anywhere in the house. And James Otis in 1761 gave a five-hour speech on how evil that was and how it would allow petty tyrants, aka some of these agents out there, petty tyrants to reign in terror. And John Adams responded to that speech by saying independence was then and they're born and it grew up 15 years later into adulthood in 1776. David Barton teaches on that in the second week of this course.
Starting point is 00:27:23 We had no idea this kind of stuff was going to happen that's happening right now. But I think that's God's way of preparing people to know the truth because, as John Jay said, you've got to know your rights so you'll perceive when they're violated and be the better prepared to defend and assert them. We the people have to know our rights, know the truth, and know how to biblically, properly, peacefully assert those things if we're going to save this country. Well, that's what's so fascinating to me is that we have been lulled over the decades into thinking that I don't need to do anything.
Starting point is 00:27:50 Folks, that's alive from the pit of hell. You not only have things that you need to do, you have an obligation before God. You don't deserve to be free unless you do something to preserve that freedom every day or every week. So whether it's an hour or two hours or whether it's some kind of part of your money, it's just like a tithe. You owe that because many people, many people, everybody in the world would like to live in a free country where you can criticize your government, where you can.
Starting point is 00:28:19 everybody would want that, but are we willing to pay the price? Over the centuries, we have paid a price. Some people paid a price in blood. Other people pay a price in volunteering and in doing all kinds of things and in teaching the Constitution, becoming Constitution coach, doing all these kinds of things. No one understood this, and I write about this in the, if you can keep it book. Lincoln got this better than anybody.
Starting point is 00:28:44 He understood the sanctity of what we have in America, that this is something we do not deserve, but God has given it to us as a gift to use for his purposes. And so if you are somebody who has benefited from living in America, folks, you have an obligation to give back. However, you can give back. But you need to take a part of your life, just like we say this about the faith. You know, you don't just do nothing. You've got to do something. You've got tithes and offerings and volunteering.
Starting point is 00:29:14 We have to live out our faith. If you don't live out your faith, you probably don't have to. have faith. You're kidding yourself. And similarly, if you don't live out the freedom that we have in this country, it goes away. It has been going away. And so that's why, to me, what you guys at Patriot Academy are doing, it is so vital because you're giving people a way to do it. They say, well, I'm not sure what I want it, what I can do. Eric, what do I do? Well, there are many things you can do, folks. I give you the principles, but Patriot Academy, Petriacademy.com, gives you some tangible things you can do, like become a Constitution coach, whatever.
Starting point is 00:29:52 But we are going to change the country in the world if we take this seriously. Eric, you'll love this. At the closing ceremony for our leadership Congress, the one we do at the Capitol with the young people on the House floor, and we have military veterans on the Senate floor learning how a constitutional republic works. They all leave saying, now I know what I was fighting for. But at the end, in the closing ceremony, we have the veterans at the front of the room and the kids come forward.
Starting point is 00:30:15 They sign the declaration. They pledge their lives, fortune, and sacred honor. They go up to that military veteran who places a medal on them and says, I was willing to die for you, for your freedom. Now it's time for you to go live it. It's a spike moment for that young person, 18, 19, 22 years old to say, I'm going to now go live my freedom and give up my life, fortune and sacred honor from now on.
Starting point is 00:30:34 We all need that. We need that epiphany moment where we say, you know what? My child's freedom and my grandchild's freedom is worth the sacrifice, whatever it takes. I'm going to start investing in freedom. Folks, this is a glorious opportunity. Patriot Academy.com. Rick Green, God bless you.
Starting point is 00:30:52 Thank you for doing this. And God bless America. Well, thanks, Eric. Right back at you, man. All of your books inspire me and our folks at Patriot Academy. We recommend them all the time, learn from them and get inspired from them. So thanks for what you do, man. Thank you.

Starting point is 00:32:08 Hey there, folks. Every week at about this time. In fact, right now I talk to my friends Pete and Seth Talbotel. but both of whom are successful businessmen. So I want to ask you kind of a basic question. When people talk about best business principles, for you, what are the, you know, the most important principles in business? Wow. Wow. I mean, that's a big question. It's a big question, but it's, I'm really glad to ask that because biblical principles are the best business principles.
Starting point is 00:32:54 There's no question about it. Wisdom is wisdom. Wisdom is wisdom. And wisdom, proverbs, we've talked about, I brought up proverbs a number of times. I remember in, oh, about mid-1970s, a fellow took me under his wing and a very successful businessman
Starting point is 00:33:18 in the greater Seattle. area. And he was on a number of different, very successful boards. And I was able to sit in on a board meeting. And they were discussing this big issue. And they turned to my friend, who was about 80 at the time. And they said, Walter, what do you think? And he came up with a discussion and an answer that just made so much sense. And after the meeting, a guy came up to us, I was still with Walter. and said, you always seem to have the answer to some of these difficult business questions, Walter. We're so glad you're on the board. What's your secret?
Starting point is 00:33:59 What's your secret? And he said, I read a chapter of Proverbs every day of my life, and I've done it for 39 years or something like that. Never misses a day. And the truth is business principles, biblical principles, scripture. The Word of God, that's the best at the core. Every week that we do this, it's in the back of my head as I'm listening to the two of you, that we're talking about basic wisdom just as it applies to business, but it's the same concepts.
Starting point is 00:34:35 You need humility. You need, you know, many counselors. You need to be willing to have the humility to listen to different points of view. So, I mean, it's interesting to me just on that level. And I think also the thing that really drove. me in this season in my career is it's the humility and it's it's a passion for service we we work with a variety of companies and some of us some of them come to us in pretty rough shape where they've been banged and battered and one of the best things that I've done
Starting point is 00:35:06 probably in the last month was work with a company that they were in trouble and they didn't even have a formalized relationship with us and I grabbed one of my managing partners that are We jumped on a Zoom call, going through the financials to say, you've got to stop this bleeding here and here. And in about 15 minutes, we gave him the plan that stabilized his business. And he just called me about a week ago, and it's turning around. Because we were working on how to restructure debt, how to refocus the business. And we're going to have an arrangement with him soon because he's got some stuff that he does want to do with us and partner long term. but the idea of just service of I don't want any business owner to go through what I went through
Starting point is 00:35:55 when I was trying to do my own stuff when I just didn't know where to turn. And we run into business owners that are over their skis, exhausted, they're tired, and they're trapped. You know, one of the things that I remember growing up in a restaurant, you know, it wasn't a money machine. You know, when we were growing up, it just, it wasn't a money machine. And people think because of your business owner, you've got all this money available. And a lot of times that's not the case. And I have a buddy who was running a, own the 31 Flavors, Baskin-Robbins place.
Starting point is 00:36:26 And he wasn't doing well. But people think, oh, you like own the shop. They think that you've got money. We run into guys all the time that are trapped in their businesses. I mean, completely utterly trapped, where they've got all these people that they're employing. The margin stinks. They don't think that they can sell. their revenue is flat or it's going down
Starting point is 00:36:47 and they have no idea what to do and it breaks my heart it's one of those things where you just it's so I think a piece of the service aspect is we give a lot of advice to people that we don't formalize a relationship around I just was checking my email just before I got here
Starting point is 00:37:05 and it's a guy that owns a series of small let's so we say treat shops and not okay financially at all. And my firm's helping him, and we've been helping him a bit, trying to figure out what's what. And we're eventually going to maybe do a formalized thing because we're going to jump in and do some other stuff. But we just get to serve him. We just get to help. And seeing him go, thank you so much, because we're at least giving him a lens on how to figure out his way through. It's really, really, really exciting. It is not too simplistic to say that people need to spend time
Starting point is 00:37:42 in the Word of God. I know this is, we're supposed to talk about business principles here, but it reminds me of George Washington Carver. You know, he developed 300 uses for the peanut, 100 and some uses for the sweet potato. I mean, the guy was amazing. And when he was asked, where did he learn it? He said from one book. And the interviewer said, well, what book is that? He said, it was the Bible. He said, without God to help turn and open the curtain, I would be helpless. Biblical principles make sense, and they translate into life, into business. Jesus is Lord of all, of all, including our businesses. We are all in full-time ministry. Our businesses are ministries. In the marketplace. In the marketplace. This is life
Starting point is 00:38:37 as followers of Jesus Christ. So, uh, get into Proverbs, get into the Word of God. It will help. Well, it kind of reminds me of it's like math. It's like saying, I don't like math. Well, you can't do much. You can't do engineering. You can't do whatever.
Starting point is 00:38:53 I kind of feel this way about life and obviously about business. Like this is, this is called truth. This is called wisdom. And it really does behoove you to understand it. And one of the reasons we're friends is you're not shy about your faith and about the source of your wisdom. Now, okay, obviously, if people want to reach out to you, they can just go to the Talbot Group.
Starting point is 00:39:21 Sure. And I know there's a lot more information there, and you don't mind if people call you. Call us 866 Talbot, T-A-L-B-O-T-T. I'll get back to you. We can have a little chat, maybe get together with Seth when it's appropriate. We'd love to help.
Starting point is 00:39:38 This is what we do. We love helping. I like you guys, so I'm making a mental note to have you back. Talbot Group.com. Pete and Seth, thank you. Thank you. Hey there, folks. Welcome back. I'm excited right now.
Starting point is 00:40:21 You know that on this program we're doing a fundraiser for food for the poor. But I said, you know, I want to bring somebody on who's part of the Salem Radio Network, who's part of the brass. My friend Tom Trat up, he's the guy. He's the vice president of news and talk programming. But Tom, you have a relationship with food for the poor. You understand why I'm going out on a limb and asking my listeners to reach into their pockets for God's purposes. So I wanted you to help us understand it in a way that I can't really myself communicate successfully.
Starting point is 00:41:01 So what do you know about this that I wouldn't know? Well, first off, thank you for having me on the show. I'm here in the, I'm in the fortress of Metaxus. We've got the Mike Flag. We've got the travel bag. We're here pushing the Eric Mattaxas show every time we get. Now, by the way, if you go to Metaxistalk.com, ladies and gentlemen, you have access to all this swag, all this incredible product. If you go to Metaxistalk.com, you'll see it. But we want you to go to Metaxistock.com. least today in part to click on the banner to help people who are suffering. That's right. Because of evil men around the world, there's suffering. And if you go to metaxis talk.com, you'll click on the banner. But go ahead, Tom, Trout up, and tell us more. Well, thank you, Eric. You know, Food for the Poor is a nonprofit organization. They're based in Coconut Creek, Florida. We've worked with them for over a dozen years. And they helped the poorest of the poor in 17.
Starting point is 00:42:05 nations here in the Western Hemisphere. And I've traveled with them to Guatemala, to Haiti, to a number of other countries with them and actually seen their work on the ground. They're absolutely the best in the business. Their overhead is the smallest in the business. So every dollar you give really goes directly to help the poor. We've expanded because of the war in Ukraine. And regardless of what people think, and I've heard the debates back and forth. Some of our talk show hosts when we started the campaign, we're like, why do I want to get any money for people that are refugees in Ukraine when we're paying $7 a gallon for gas here in California? Well, it's true. America's got problems and we all have to pay the
Starting point is 00:42:51 light bill and we all have, you know, personal issues. But when you think about the children who have been displaced. There are over 500,000 Ukrainian children who've been separated from their parents. Usually the dad had to stay behind in order to fight in the war, so they were just with their mom, but now they've been separated from their moms. And if you had a 12-year-old child, either your child or your grandchild, and they were alone in a scary place, a bomb shelter, or in a foreign country where somebody's, you know, playing host to them, you would want people, just like the men and women listening to the Eric Metaxis show and watching you right now to open up your hearts and your wallets and help. And the fact is that because of food for the poor's donations,
Starting point is 00:43:39 they already have a ton of food donated through themselves and their ministry partners. $1.1 delivers four meals to refugees in Ukraine. $2 delivers eight. You know, you do the math. You can figure it out. A $10 or $20 contribution, $100,000. would be fabulous. Thank you very much. But we're here simply to ask you to think a little bit outside yourself, so many things going on in the world that are scary and crazy like the Mara Lago raid that you've been talking about, Eric. I know it's a tough time for a lot of people in this economy, but we are asking you to maybe dig deep, think a little bit outside yourself. We've all done it. I've been on trips with food for the poor, and as I said, seen them up close and
Starting point is 00:44:28 personal. When you call Eric's number, which is 844-863-4673, or to make it easier, it's 844-863, hope, because you're giving hope to these children overseas. You're really being the hands and feet of Jesus, as we're called to. Eric was wise to mention that. We're called to help the poorest of the poor, and there's nobody who does it better than food for the poor.
