Starting point is 00:00:10 Have you checked your bucket list lately? Are you ready to take care of item number seven? Listening to the Eric Mattaxas show? Well, welcome. Tune in and then move on to item number eight, skydiving with Chuck Schumer and AOC. Here now is Mr. Completed My Bucket List at age 12, Eric Mattaxas. Hey there, folks. Welcome to the program.
Starting point is 00:00:35 Hey, Chris, do you know where I am? I believe you're in Texas. Yes, technically. I'm in Dallas, Texas, and I am in a hotel in Dallas, Texas. Tonight, I'm speaking at an event tonight for parent compass. That's going to be the Park City Baptist Church that's here in Dallas. I don't know if I think there's still tickets, but I will be signing books until the cows come home. I'd love that. So if there's anybody who can get to Dallas tonight,
Starting point is 00:01:09 I'm speaking tonight, and I'm here for that. And I'm excited about it. I love being here. I have friends here. So with you in Dallas or Texas, you said, till the cows come home. And technically, I think we need to state when that is because that's literal in Texas. Yes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:01:27 And they come home to Fort Worth, but they commute to Dallas. Well, so tonight I got that event, that event. Tomorrow I fly to California, I, A. because I got three events in California. I mean, we got a whole bunch of stuff going on. It's a very crazy time. Now, before I forget, in this hour, I'm talking to Willie and Corey Robertson
Starting point is 00:01:56 of the Duck Dynasty Robertsons. There's a film coming out this Thursday. Ladies and gentlemen, you need to support this film. These are the kind of films that I'm just telling you, if you don't like what's happening in the culture, which I would assume anybody with a half a brain understands that, you know, we're in trouble in American culture in America. You need to support good things.
Starting point is 00:02:22 And when somebody puts something like this out, you need to make an effort. It's the story of Phil Robertson. It's an unbelievable story. I'll be talking to them about it. But please make a note. This is going to be in theaters for, they give you like a week. and then it goes away and then the garbage comes back. If it does well, they'll keep it in the theaters,
Starting point is 00:02:44 like Jesus' Revolution, like Sound of Freedom. We need to do everything we can to support this kind of thing, especially when it's good, not just because it tells stories that we like, but it's actually artistically excellent and it tells stories we like. So it's called the blind, obviously referring to a duck blind, at least in part,
Starting point is 00:03:03 but the blind, you can go to the blindmovie.com. It's important that you support, this that you tell your friends on social media. Please take me seriously on that. But I will have Willie and Cori on in this hour. In Hour 2, I'm talking to Michael Pack and Thomas Pack. Michael Pack is the conservative filmmaker. We're talking about a similar issue of the culture and media and film and how important
Starting point is 00:03:30 it is to get our stories out. So we're going to be talking to them in Hour 2. that that's that's just exciting and speaking of films uh chris you know this better than anybody because you've been involved with me but my book letter to the american church we put out a study guide and now it is being turned into a documentary film uh which is going i'm going to be going all over the country promoting it uh it's going to officially launch i believe november 1st but letter to the American Church. This is obviously the message of how we, who call ourselves Christians, need to take our faith into the public sphere. It is not God's desire. It is not God's will
Starting point is 00:04:21 that we keep our faith under a bushel, but that we're supposed to bring it and bring God's values everywhere we can. We're going to bless people. We're going to bless future generations by doing that. And the American church doesn't seem to have gotten that memo just in the way the German church didn't get that memo in the 30s. And the results are drastically negative. And so we have to turn the ship around. It's very, very important. So the, so the film is Letter to the American Church documentary. We partnered with TPSA Faith and Charlie Kirk to make it happen. And so I just want to recommend it because I have to say we are living in a in a in a crucial hour in this country and that is one of the things that I've been doing to to try to help that situation.
Starting point is 00:05:11 So we need we need your help whatever you can do to to get the word out about that film and about all these things we're talking about and to support you know support the team because we're in a battle. It's a letter to the American Church. is the website. So there's a trailer up there now. We'll be posting more information about tickets and advance sale things in the coming weeks.
Starting point is 00:05:35 But it's very exciting. You actually did go out to Hollywood to film this. And there's a number of sort of disenchanted, you know, conservative Hollywood employees that are ready to kind of do things for the other team, so to speak. And so this is a project that was staffed by a lot of legit Hollywood talent. Yeah, big deal people were worked on this film. and they make me look good. And it's really exciting.
Starting point is 00:06:03 It's letter to the American church.com is the website. But it is exciting because for decades, literally, I've known God's calling on my life is media, is to reach the culture. And so obviously this radio program and other things I do are part of that, but there's so much more. And so we want you to know about that. I should say, Chris, so I'm speaking tonight.
Starting point is 00:06:32 I was just in Iowa. I spoke at a prayer breakfast in Iowa, Davenport, Iowa, Quad Cities area. I'm now in Dallas tonight. I'm doing an event in Dallas. Then I fly to California where I'm doing an event, two events, actually. I'm speaking at an event in L.A. I can't remember exactly where it is. It's the L.A. area Thursday night.
Starting point is 00:06:58 And then Friday morning, I'm speaking at in Orange County, in Irvine, at the mayor's prayer breakfast. I'm the speaker at the mayor's prayer breakfast, Orange County, California. Then I'll finally get home. But I get home only to turn around and to go to Grand Rapids, Michigan. That's next week. It's unbelievable. After Grand Rapids, I got to come back to Dallas. Yes, I got an event in Dallas.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Friday night, Saturday night, that's October 6 and 7th. I'm looking at my calendar here just to remind myself of what it is I have to do. Then I have an event in San Antonio. Am I making this up? No, I'm not making this up. Then we have a Socrates in the city event in Fort Worth, Texas, about a half an hour from where I am right now. That's September, sorry, October 12th.
Starting point is 00:07:50 That is sold out. That is sold out. I'm interviewing Stephen Collins. You're going to be able to live stream it if you want. Obviously, I recommend it. It's kind of fun to see it live before we edit out all the cursing. Yeah. There's also going to be a branding for the Metaxus super fans in Texas.
Starting point is 00:08:11 You're going to have a branding EM that people can get. What do you mean? I'm going to have a branding. I'm going to be branded. No, you're offering a brand the super fans. It's like a tattoo, but it's a Texas tattoo. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:24 That's really sick. Thank you. And then October 13th, we're doing these things. I did a bunch of them last week. We call it Socrates in the studio. We're launching a thing called Socrates Plus, where you can subscribe and you can get access to a ton of stuff. We'll be rolling this out in the next month or so.
Starting point is 00:08:45 And we are filming Socrates in the studio conversations, just like the Socrates and the city events, except without, you know, 250 people in the audience. And we did a bunch of them recently in New York. Fantastic. I'm going to be doing some after the Socrates event at the Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth on October 12th. The next day we're filming a few Socrates in the studio events. One of them is with John Smirak. John Smirak will be my guest at a Socrates in the studio event.
Starting point is 00:09:20 He has a new book coming out called No Second Amendment. know first. It is a very important book. Nobody's more entertaining and wonderful than John Smirak. So he'll be my guest for that. So this is just tons of stuff coming up. Go to Ericmetaxis.com, sign up for the newsletter. After that, I go to Augusta, Georgia. After that, I go to Houston. I'm not making this up. I'm going to be in Johnson City, Tennessee. Holy cow. I think Steve Spurrier is from there. we come back, I'm talking to Will and Corey Robertson, don't go away. Folks, have I told you about Moink, M-O-I-N-K, that's M-O-I-N-K? I get all our meat and our salmon from them, M-O-I-N-K.
Starting point is 00:10:12 Moink delivers grass-fed and grass-finished beef and lamb, pastured, pork and chicken, sustainable wild-caught salmon straight to your door. There is so much that I want to say to you about Moink. I could tell you one thing. Shark Tank host, Kevin O'Leary, Mr. Wonderful, said Moin's bacon is the best bacon he's ever tasted. They are people who really firmly believe in the family farm. Some of you know I've mentioned this. 60% of U.S. pork production comes from one company owned by the Chinese. Starting point is 00:11:59 I have a number of significant Robertsons as my guest. Willie and Corey, welcome back. Hello. Hey there. We're significant. I'm joking around. You're all significant. But you, I love you guys.
Starting point is 00:12:26 I've got to know you. And I was so excited when I heard about this film called The Blind. tell my audience what this is about. And I know Willie, you lived a little bit of this. So tell my audience what this film is about, which is opening this Thursday. Yes, September 28th. Yeah, I live just a piece of it.
Starting point is 00:12:49 So most of my memories happen as soon as the film ends. That's where my memories began. I am played on it by a, we had to find the right actor to be Little Willie at two years old. that was very important to me. It's hard to find little children with beards, but you found... It really is. It really is.
Starting point is 00:13:07 So we found a great candidate named John Shepard Robertson, who is my grandson. So my grandson's playing me on a movie about my dad, which is... How about that? That's pretty cool. Pretty surreal. He did great, too. I felt like he captured, in essence, who I was. I mean, listen, look, this is so...
Starting point is 00:13:31 I know. I have, you know, been to your home and eaten your mother's cooking and gone duck hunting with your dad and Uncle Sy. And I have an affection for you all. And I know the story, the amazing story of your father's story, your mother's story with your father, whatever. So that's what this film is about. I think a lot of people will be shocked and blessed by this story. by this story because they didn't know it. So the title is the blind, obviously referring to the duck blind, I guess, at least in part, but also the blind leading the blind. What, I mean, this is a feature film. This is a, this is not a documentary.
Starting point is 00:14:18 This is a feature film about your father's story. It's a real movie, yeah. So we, so Corey and I got into really production after Doug Baxter because we realized the importance of media and TV shows. movies. And so we wanted to bring positive stories out. And we didn't plan on doing it particularly about us or our family in any way, but we, this story came up and we were like, wow, we really feel like we need to tell this story, especially now that Phil and Kay, you know, since they're still hearing, can tell us all the memories they have because some of
Starting point is 00:14:49 the people in the movie have passed on. And so we want to get the real story. So it says it's, this is a true story. It's not based on true stories. It's literally comes out of their mouths and everybody who was around at that time. And yeah, it's a story of redemption. It's, it's faith-based. And that obviously we're of faith, but most of the movie is not, I mean, it was hard to keep it not rated all right. Just because it feels life was so out of control.
Starting point is 00:15:14 And it's the story of him with this struggle. And you realize how this family ended up doing all these things, but it was so close to being over and none of it would happen. So if that moment of faith doesn't happen, if that relationship, doesn't stay together. My life looks completely different. I probably don't meet her. I mean, obviously, we have no company. We have no TV show. Well, so wait, so tell the story because, again, I know this story. Your father, who is a wild man today in the good sense, was a wild man in a bad sense. He was a maniac, you know, like a, like a character out of a, out of a, I don't know,
Starting point is 00:15:51 out of a novel, out of a Cormac McCarthy novel. So tell my audience just up front, What is the story? What is the gist of the story? Yeah, so we go back to their childhood. It's neat because it's like 50s, 60s, early 70s, like timepiece. And the set designers and costume designer did an amazing job. But we went back and told their story from when Bill and Kay met, like Kay was a teen mom.
Starting point is 00:16:15 She got pregnant in high school. Phil was the father of Al, their first son. And then they got married, very young, went off to college. There's Terry Bradshaw's in the film, which, if you know, Phil's story, he was the starting quarterback ahead of Terry Bradshaw. So you see a little bit of that play out. Wait a minute. Wait,
Starting point is 00:16:33 you're so familiar with this. You don't understand how dramatic that is. Because again, I know this story. Yeah. So your father, I mean, on the one hand, he's this wild man, but he goes to college. So what's the school that he goes to? Louisiana Tech, yeah. Louisiana Tech.
Starting point is 00:16:51 Louisiana Tech. Now, just for perspective, because some of your viewers might say, well, that's not a big school. And that's not. Terry Bradshaw ended up being the first college pick of 1970. So the number one draft pick, which, I mean, now we're thinking like, that's, I mean, you're set for life and all that. Terry was the number one pick. Terry was backing up, Phil.
Starting point is 00:17:12 So obviously, I wasn't around to know how good he was, but if you were starting ahead of the guy who would end up in the Hall of Fame and all that, you know, it was, it was, they had these two quarterbacks there. And Bradshaw says himself, had they been there at the same time, Brachshall never would have played. He never would have got on the field. That was before the Spencer Porter. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:32 That's how that. Because most people would just not, would not get that. You know, when you look at him dead today, you cannot picture him as that guy, you know, 50 plus years ago, throwing a football with that level of excellence. And so now at that point, your parents were married. Ish. Yeah. None of us are still, even though we research this movie, it's hard tracking out exactly when that happened.
Starting point is 00:18:01 Actually, I think they finally got married after Jace was born. So, yeah, they made it through college, everything. And he would have to talk. Wait, so they're together. They're together. But they were not, but they didn't, but they didn't tie the not officially until a little bit later. They said they had a hippie wedding. That's what they call it.
Starting point is 00:18:21 And we don't know what that means. Yeah. I can explain that to you. It involves flowers in your hair. You write your own vows, and you say it on a, on a fancy knolls. And a couple of kids being born. So that's what that looks like. That's what it looked like, yes.
Starting point is 00:18:38 But we did put a story in there about Bradshaw. Now, I know this is true because Bradshaw told me this story when I was probably 13 years old. He was at, he came to our mall in Monroe, Louisiana. He was at Dillard's Men's Department store. This is where his career was at the time. And so mom said, oh, Terry Broucho, your dad played with him. And so she took me out there. And he, when we got up there and he recognized Kay, and he goes,
Starting point is 00:19:04 and he tells me this story about Phil taking a bass fishing. And it's a really funny story. I don't want to give him. Your father taking Terry Bradson. Yeah, when they were in college. And so we put that whole story in the movie. That was from, that was from Terry. Terry tells us that story.
Starting point is 00:19:19 Phil had actually not told me that story. Well, and Phil actually, in research in this movie, we didn't know this, but Phil actually nicknamed Terry the blonde bomber. So he got his nickname from Phil in college. So this is back, this is so far back that Terry Bradshaw had hair. Yes, he did. Wow, that's like before the flood. That's a long time.
Starting point is 00:19:42 Yeah. So Phil has this promising career, but, you know, he's got two kids already. And he ends up, he goes on to teach school. He gets his master's in English. goes on to teach school. Wait, stop. Here we go again. Yes.
Starting point is 00:19:59 Wildman Phil Robertson. Yes. Got his master's degree in English. I just want to say, Eric McTax has got his BA in English. I never got a master's degree. The idea that your father, who most people think of as a just a wild man who kills ducks,
Starting point is 00:20:18 he got a master's decree in English and was a teacher. Yes. he was he was but during that time period he was not not doing so well that's when the drinking started partying really it started in college but then it led to about 10 years of alcoholism addiction adultery abuse is as bad as you can get yeah it was bad yeah it was it was really bad and that was his wild man period for sure oh yeah and this is where and this is where the marriage starts falling apart he kicks us out of the house and then that's when he goes to live in the woods by himself. He's running from the police, actually. And so I mean, again, I guess I always want to hit
Starting point is 00:20:59 pause, like goes to live in the woods by himself. That's pretty dramatic. And I have heard this story. I think I heard it from your mother and your father about that moment where he, he kicks his wife and children out of the house. I mean, this is some dark stuff. I mean, it ends so well. but in the middle of it, I just can't imagine what that would have been like. Yeah, and that's the thing. It's not Doug Bownesty. So it's not, you know,
Starting point is 00:21:28 Doug Vinescy is kind of the fruits of the labor of them staying together after all these years. And so, yeah, there wasn't a lot of happy time during those times. And so there's some moments. Yeah, there's some moments we have. I'm sorry. You know what? We're going to a break.
Starting point is 00:21:41 We'll be right back, folks. I'm talking to Willie and Corey Robertson. Don't go away. Hey, folks. I'm often asked that question just the other night. I was asked that question.
Starting point is 00:23:08 Well, the owners of Relief Factor tell me they believe our bodies were designed to heal. That's right, designed to heal. And I agree with them. And the doctors who formulated Relief Factor for them selected the four best ingredients, yes, 100% drug-free ingredients. And each one of them helps your body deal with inflammation. Each of the four ingredients deals with inflammation from a different metabolic pathway. That's the point. So approaching from four different angles may be why so many people find such wonderful relief. Starting point is 00:25:26 start again where we just cut off. Yeah, I was saying there's there's some fun moments on it too. I think a lot of people enjoy young Uncle Si. So we get to see. So there's actually three versions of Kay and Phil and Sae. There's the kid version and then the teenager and then we have the adult versions. But it's pretty funny watching the little kid sigh and the teenage sigh, how all that quirkiness began. So you see where this was forming, turning him in. So we do have some moments like that that are on the movie. But, you know, I've got to be honest, most of it is gritty and tough. It's, it's, it's, and I was so thankful for Kay and Phil, um, because they've always been transparent about their lives, but I, you know, to dig up these old wounds and skeletons and,
Starting point is 00:26:09 and, you know, put it out there, you know, for everyone to see was, it was tough. I mean, I know it's tough on Phil and Kay as well. I'd say it's been much harder on them than we thought, I guess, because they had, like you said, you've heard their story. They've written it in books. They've told it, which it's impacted millions of lives already, just people hearing their story and, you know, there's stories on YouTube. But it's one thing to, like, hear it, another thing to see it on a screen
Starting point is 00:26:32 with actors portraying you. And so that's been hard. I mean, there's been some tears shed for sure. As we watched it as a family, like we were all bawling, including Phil, which, you know, you don't see. That's very rare. So, but from day one, they both have said,
Starting point is 00:26:48 like, if this can help one person, if it saves one marriage, If it helps one person, if one person meets Jesus because of it, then it's all worth it. And so just to see their humility in that and their willingness to like say, yeah, we'll show the hardest parts, the darkest parts, the worst moment of our life to help somebody has been really powerful for us to see. Well, that's huge. And it's really, it's very, very important, you know, because it will touch lives. It will touch lives in a way that a book won't because now everybody reads books. So where will the film be available, this film called The Blind releasing this week?
Starting point is 00:27:29 Yeah, it's all over the country. I think we're in like 1800 theaters now, and you can go to theblindmovie.com and type in your city. It'll tell you what theater to go to. And yeah, it comes out Thursday. We're only guaranteed one week. So we need you to go this first week. Get out there and see it. And, you know, the more people who see it, of course, hopefully we'll get another week.
Starting point is 00:27:48 And then we hear Taylor Swift is coming into theaters and going to bust everybody out. So we got a couple of weeks here to make our statement. Well, look, this gets to something I've said many times on this program. And when I'm giving speeches around the country, ladies and gentlemen, you need to support these things. You have an obligation. And inertia, that's Satan, inertia to do nothing. you need to do the right thing and support these kinds of films. Bring your friends, get your church involved.
Starting point is 00:28:27 It's vital. You know, it's part of saving America is that we have to bring these stories into the media, into the mainstream. And God bless you guys for doing that. That's something that I am myself trying to do with a number of projects, because this is a vital, vital piece of the battle, of this ideological war that we're in. It's really a spiritual war.
Starting point is 00:28:49 We have not gotten stories like this into the mainstream in most of our lifetimes, you know. And so the fact that you're doing this, I'm thrilled and proud of you, but people need to support it. So folks, it's this week, this Thursday, and you need to make a point, make a date, make an appointment, write it down and make sure you do this because these are the kinds of films that need to be promoted, to be supported. And we know that the culture will do everything it can not to tell the story of somebody like a Phil Robertson because they hate his guts because he speaks the truth. And they're often enemies of the truth. Where do you guys, you know, when you said you were after the end of Duck Dynasty, you were talking about wanting to get into media. So how did that happen? Because that's been on my heart for decades. It's so clear strategically. That's where we
Starting point is 00:29:43 ought to be. So how did that happen for you for you to? Well, really, it was that dynasty. I think it just kind of opened our eyes to the power of entertainment and how it shape how it shaping our culture. It made me more conscious of like what I'm watching and what I'm intaking because I was like, oh, entertainment actually moves people and shapes people. It's art. So it's not neutral. It's moving you one way or another. And for our show, we saw we had this, you know, fun little show about our family, but we ended with a prayer and just that one simple little thing, how it impacts people. People would come up with tears. Like our family now sits down and has a prayer together because of your show or our, my husband goes to church because he saw real men that love God
Starting point is 00:30:25 and are normal people, you know, or like I watched it with my dad when he had cancer and it just brought joy and it, you know, how the emotional impact and the cultural impact. And then people started going beards and wearing camos and you know, you're like, oh, this is actually moving people and shaping people. And then you're like, oh, how is the other way? And how much more of entertainment is shaping? It's shaping us in the other way and all the agendas that are out there on the other side. How is that shaping us? And I actually heard a speaker one time and he was talking about kind of like the seven cultural mountains and the different, you know, politics and religion
Starting point is 00:31:03 and education, entertainment. And he said in today's world that the mountain of entertainment is like the mountain, everything else is hills in its shadow because of how much we're consuming of entertainment. And so that was that was really the impetus for us and just say like, oh, we need to do more of this. Like we need more entertainment that that helps culture that like has positive values, has messages of faith, has, you know, family, family friendly entertainment, things like that that move our culture in a positive direction rather than in, you know, a negative direction. The film is the blind. You got to see it. I mean, actually, you got to see it. The blind. Theblindmovie.com. We'll be right back.

When the government used emergency edicts during COVID to restrict the gathering and worship of churches, three pastors facing the risk of imprisonment, unlimited fines, and their own churches being ripped apart, took a courageous stand and reopened their doors and the
Starting point is 00:33:14 face of a world that chose to comply. The essential church. is a feature-length documentary that explores the struggle between the church and government throughout history. This fascinating story uncovers those who have sacrificed their lives throughout history for what they truly believe in. Starting point is 00:33:48 Church is streaming today exclusively at SalemNow.com. That's Essential Church, streaming at SalemNow.com. Welcome back. I'm talking to Willie and Corey Robertson of the Robertson Dynasty of Duck Dynasty and the film out this week, which ladies and gentlemen, you need to see, you need to bring people to see. It's a beautiful story, redemptive story, powerful story. It's called The Blind the blind. So we were just talking, Willie and Corey, about, you know, your sense of how important entertainment is. And I've talked many times on this program and everywhere in my life for decades about this very issue where Christians and conservatives have dropped the ball on this issue,
Starting point is 00:34:51 that we have let the left, the anti-American loony left, increasingly now. Now, woke, loony left, kind of tell these stories. And people don't even know stories of beautiful redemption like the one that you're telling in this film this week, the blind. People don't know, I didn't know until Duck Dynasty existed, as you just said, Corey, that, you know, real men could love God and could, you know. And so this is very powerful stuff. And it's at the center of my life. And that's why when I heard you were doing this, I was just so so excited.
Starting point is 00:35:33 Do you have other projects and things that you're working on these days? We do. Yeah. We have a few other, a couple of documentaries that we're working on that we're really excited about, another film that's kind of necks on the docket, which now I think the whole, the strike just ended. So that's helpful for that kind of thing. Yeah. So that's very helpful.
Starting point is 00:35:54 So yeah, we do. started tread lively productions, really the idea that like we're not supposed to tread lightly as Christians. We need to tread lively. God calls us so an abundant life. And that was something that I saw too when we did that dynasty, this kind of like fear of Hollywood in Christian circles, you know, which obviously you're not, not you. But there's definitely a, you know, whenever we decided we were going to do this, you know,
Starting point is 00:36:17 well-meaning Christians were like, oh, you're going to go to Hollywood. Like, you know, like it's going to destroy your family. or you're going to let your daughter, you know, do dance for the stars. It's so scary, but we're like, oh, don't we have the spirit of God in us? We're supposed to be going into these places, which should be the light of the world. We should be going into the darkness, not retreating from. And so that's kind of been a message that we felt like we, you know, when anybody comes us as like, oh, I have this opportunity.
Starting point is 00:36:45 I'm a believer to be in Hollywood. I'm like, yes, like go. Like, we need more of that. Well, obviously, though, I mean, the problem is, you know, you have to go knowing what you're getting into you have to go with wisdom and the holy spirit otherwise they'll eat you a lot but that that's you know when i first encountered you all and and dr guys i see i couldn't even believe it that there was something on mainstream tv with a family like you guys that prayed where i said this is this is a cultural breakthrough this is a big deal and so i'm glad that you are you know uh expanding on
Starting point is 00:37:18 that and that you're putting stuff like this out there and i think there's a there's a lot of signs of hope. I mean, the sound of freedom was a was an example of that, the Jesus Revolution an example of that. But we need way, way, way more. We need way more of this stuff. People are hungry for this stuff. And I feel like the left, you know, enough decades have passed that you're able now to see the bankruptcy, the lunacy of their ideas. Like they were kind of hiding it for a while, but it's now out in the open as pure, like insane propaganda. And I think a lot of people are are pulling away from that because it's become so open and so sick. And they're more,
Starting point is 00:37:57 they're hungry for things like what you all are doing. Does anybody notable, is there anybody notable in this film? Is this no-name actors who are getting a big shot? Where was Dennis Quaid playing Phil Robertson? So we have Amelia Eve plays Miss Kaye and Aaron Von Adrian plays Phil. And they're actually both British. And so they had to get the action.
Starting point is 00:38:22 accents down. Which was a whole thing. Yes. They did a fantastic job. We had them, so we had a big crawfish bowl, which that's a Louisiana thing. We had a crawfish bowl and had a lot of the actors that were playing the main characters there and Phil and Kay were there. So they got to just sit down with them and really like absorb their accents and
Starting point is 00:38:42 mannerisms and everything, which was really cool. And we even had Phil. So there's kind of a narration that drives the film. And we had the real Phil read that. and that way it could really be in his own words. And if, you know, we shifted things that made the script be really in Phil's words. And then the actor was able to have that to, you know, use to really embody the character, which is, which is fun to see.
Starting point is 00:39:06 It was, I mean, this is our first film. Yeah. I mean, it was amazing. But how do you guys, I mean, it's just funny to me, Willie and Corey, like that you guys are, you just dove in the deep end of the pool, creating, you know, top level, entertainment. Obviously this didn't happen overnight, but it's just amazing and gratifying to me, and I think to everybody listening, that you are doing this stuff. Yeah, we went in with my cousin, Zagbacher, who is with us on Tread Lively, and Zach's mother, my aunt, Jan, who's passed away,
Starting point is 00:39:40 was the one on the movie, and you'll see her she'll be very prominent. She's the one who never gave up on Phil. She's the one who talked that preacher into going up to that bar and sharing his faith, And she's the one who told the preacher, she said, if you convert Phil Robertson, he'll convert thousands. Now, how she saw that at the time was amazing because this guy's like, Loserville, like, you know, just out of control. But she saw that. And so actually, that's our partner, my cousin, Zach, who's, and he's been in the same way. He's been out there on the front of this with culture and trying to change things as well. And so he does work with Phil and Jace and all their podcasts and all their stuff.
Starting point is 00:40:18 And so, yeah, I mean, I think together we just all kind of have that kind of kind of kind of saying, hey, let's jump in and do it. How hard can it be? And it was very hard. It was this hardest. It was pretty difficult. Well, no, this is hard, but it's worth it, right? I mean, we've been, you know, many, many years trying to get the Bonhofer film done.
Starting point is 00:40:42 That's coming out next year. I'm excited that some of these stories, are getting told. And a lot of people are having the choice, actually, you know, to see something like this, rather than whatever garbage is being offered to them. And as I say, the garbage is, it's getting worse. It's getting more and more, you know, Hollywood has often been out of touch,
Starting point is 00:41:10 basically, in our lifetimes with what America wants. But it's gotten increasingly out of touch so that there's, There's a point now where you just say, like, I'll just stay home. But you guys are producing films like this. So we've got a final segment coming up. But folks, you got to see this. You got to make this a win for these kinds of films. It's called The Blind.
Starting point is 00:41:32 You can go to theblindmovie.com. Find out where it's playing. Please make an effort. Theblindmovie.com. We'll be right back. Welcome back. I'm talking to the Robertsons. Well, actually, just to some of the Robertsons, to Willie and,
Starting point is 00:42:13 and Corey Robertson about the film opening up this week, The Blind. Willie, you had something you were going to say. Yeah, I had one big thing I wanted to tell you. Now, Eric, you've done a lot of cool things in your life. You really impressed us, but really, Corey, was something you did recently. She was so impressed with your interview with Jordan Peterson. I loved it. She came and said, you have to let you.
Starting point is 00:42:40 I sent it to my whole family. You were fantastic. It was so good. And we interviewed with him as well, which was the hardest interview I've ever done. Can I tell you what? Listen. It was the longest. My wife, Suzanne, told me that she was texting with you, Corey, and that you had heard my Jordan Peterson thing.
Starting point is 00:43:01 And, of course, I was thrilled that Jordan Peterson asked me to do his podcast. And he can be difficult to talk to. And so when Suzanne told me that you guys were doing his podcast, I said, wait, what? Like what? What, you know, like what? How in the world did that happen? Because I do not see Jordan Peterson being aware of Duck Dynasty or whatever. How did that happen?
Starting point is 00:43:29 And how. Willie's going to have to tell this story because this is funny. We were speaking at Jameses' entrepreneur leadership event together. I mean, not together on the, but he was a speaker. I was bigger. So I had spoken the day before he spoke. He came off the stage and I was going to meet him. I said, hey, I said, my wife's a huge fan of yours.
Starting point is 00:43:50 So I've loved him for a little time, read all this book. I hear this little Canadian accent from her closet, from the bathroom. And then she tries to explain it to me, which I have no idea. And so I said, hey, she's a big fan, great speech. And so he looks at me. And he goes, oh, what were you doing at the conference? And I said, well, wait, Willie Robertson just did a Canadian accent. on the air with the Texas show.
Starting point is 00:44:15 Lord, you can take me now. Like, I can't. I said, well, I was one of the, I was, I gave a speech. And he looks at me and I can tell he's not, he, there's a little facial profiling going on. He's looking at me like, it's impossible. So then he, he asked a question there. This is the funniest thing I've ever heard. He goes, did you speak to the whole group?
Starting point is 00:44:37 That's an insult. That's a Canadian insult. I think he was just trying to figure out. Like, was there a different, was there something with the, like the, the rough, the, the, the, the, the business that, you know, and he just. Figure it out. And so, and I said, I did. I said, I was on the same stage as you. And now he just, he cannot figure out.
Starting point is 00:44:57 And that you should have hauled off and punched him. Well, no, no, no, no, no. No. No, no. No, then he says, what did you talk about? And I said, neuroscience and Canadian politics. Now that one, for the first time I had Jordan Peterson, speechless.
Starting point is 00:45:15 He didn't know what to say. I don't know if, am I supposed to laugh? I was going to say, that's hilarious. Neuroscience and Canadian. It was great. And everybody around us started laughing. And I said, I'm just joking with you, man. I gave most of the little.
Starting point is 00:45:30 Thank you. But he, I joked with him on the podcast and like, you know, it's kind of like, to me, it's a challenge to get somebody like that to laugh. But he cracked me up. He said, when he, when he, you heard it, right? now in the podcast, he said to me like, so, you know, you were in the English department and and you became a Christian. He says, so, so he says, when did you switch your tune? Or why did you switch your tune? And I just laughed out loud. Like, what a funny way to ask how you became a
Starting point is 00:45:57 Christian. But I'm thrilled that he has invited you guys on. So that was great. So that's what we met. And then he, and then when they said Doug Dynasty, then he was like, he was embarrassed. He didn't realize. And he was like, uh, because, you know, he had just spoken. for an hour, comes off this, and I caught him like right when it comes. I get it. Like, you walk off and somebody puts a homeless guy in front of it. You're like, hey, I was a speaker. And so you're like, you know, I mean, it was.
Starting point is 00:46:22 This is too funny. We got to get you back like ASAP, even for a short interview. We're out of time right now. Folks, the film is The Blind. You have an obligation. Ladies and gentlemen, please go see The Blind. Go to The Blindmovie.com. Willie and Corey, thank you.
