Starting point is 00:00:00 on this episode we discuss the boss baby family business. Oh baby baby boss baby baby. Stuart, you know they did that song in the movie. I know that's why I just did it now on the podcast, the supplementary podcast that people are going to listen to. Okay. Sorry. I shouldn't have interrupted. Do you want to do that one again?
Starting point is 00:00:20 No, that was I feel like the edition. So people understand. I feel like I feel like having a little little note at the end makes it better. It makes it funnier. The annotation. Yeah, yeah. That's why my copy of you Lissie's is funnier is because of all the annotations. wow, it's me, Stuart Wellington. Hey everyone and welcome to the flop house, I'm Dan McCoy. Oh wow, it's me, Stuart Wellington. Double wow, Ellie, Kaelin here, and you know what guys? We've got a very, very special guest.
Starting point is 00:01:13 Maybe the specialist guest we've ever had, not to make our other guests feel less special, but this is the most specialist. Joining us for this special family episode of the flop house is... Say your name. Samuel K. Lynn. That's right. My son, Samuel K. Lynn, the original, the original K. Lynn boy. Well, not the original K. Lynn boy.
Starting point is 00:01:34 The original K. Lynn boy was my dad because right before he was born, the name was changed from Kaplan to K. Lynn. So he's the first one. Then there's me and my brother, and then there's Sammy and his brother. Should I be riding all this down? Yes, please do. Also, there's my dad's brother too. I should have mentioned him. So Sammy's not the original Kaelin boys.
Starting point is 00:01:48 Like the fifth or sixth in line. Is this all gonna be on the test? Yeah, it's a test, or? And there's my brother too. But anyway, that's right guys. On the fifth. They're the fifth. So Sammy is doing this for another installment of
Starting point is 00:01:59 Kaelin's in the Isles. Da da da da da da da da da da da da da da. Sometimes when there's movies, you gotta have more than one K-Lin. This is one of those movies where you need more than one K-Lin. There's Daddy K-Lin, me, Elliot. And there's his son, Sammy. Sammy, how do you feel about being in the aisles?
Starting point is 00:02:17 Clearly, just as annoyed as we are. For those listening, you couldn't see that Sammy was literally rolling his eyes and slapping his forehead and discussed. What do you think about joining the yeah the family business, Sammy? You can't just shrug it's an audio. You know, talk. Thinking. He's thinking. Uh-huh. Okay, what do you think? I'm still thinking about it. Okay, well think about if you want to join us or not. So Dan, what? I'll tell you at the end if I decide yet.
Starting point is 00:02:48 Okay, I'll decide if he liked it. Okay, so Dan, while Sammy's thinking and taking in all the data he needs. Has he got any conclusions? Well, it's a question. The question was, how do you feel about joining the podcasting family business? I don't think I will. I mean, you don't have to accept it as a job offer just yet. Wait till the end of this this this trial period Dan. What do we do on this podcast? Okay, what do you do on this podcast other than annoy my son?
Starting point is 00:03:18 This is a podcast where we watch a bad movie and then we talk about it or you know We'll get to that same thing. We will make a judgment at the end. We watch a bad movie and then we talk about it or you know, it wasn't that bad. We'll get to that. Well, that's the thing. We will make a judgment at the end. We watch a movie that we presume might be bad based on public reaction, a critic reaction, all that sort of thing. The advertising in this case, how super smug that baby looks
Starting point is 00:03:41 on all the posters. That's what wasn't that bad. Shh. I know, but we'll get to there. I feel like we'll do that at the end all the posters. That's not what's not bad. Shh. I know, but we'll get to there. I feel like we'll do that the end. First of all, I feel like there's some just in the aisles. So why are you saying it now?
Starting point is 00:03:53 Because I want to. Okay, wow. That's the day's generation. You have a full born podcaster. Did you just do what they want? That's the TikTok generation. Or the Adams family. It's still in the kickin', they stop a friend.
Starting point is 00:04:04 Yeah. I don't even know what that means. they stop a friend. Yeah, slap a friend. I don't even know what that means. Slap a friend. Yeah, it's kicking. Oh, I thought it was like they, I thought it was like kicking my stop a friend. Yeah, why would they slap a friend? No, I was gonna see Hammer.
Starting point is 00:04:13 Awful. I thought it was like they stop a friend from driving when they've had too much to drink. Yeah, that's family. They would raise that, I think. Yeah, they're real reversey opposite day types. I guess that's true, since were underpants outside their pants. So anyway, this time we watched the Boss Baby Family Business,
Starting point is 00:04:33 which is a sequel to the Boss Baby, a movie that I was told has a very sort of convoluted mythology. And I looked it up on Wikipedia. It does, in fact, it does in fact. It's a high concept comedy that, it did confuse me a little bit at the beginning of this movie, what the heck was supposed to be going on. But once it gets rolling,
Starting point is 00:04:56 it doesn't really matter all that much. Yeah, I was sort of, so I had not seen the original The Boss Baby, which I had assumed was just about like a smug baby that talks, and you don't really need about like a smug baby that talks. And you don't really need much more than that to make a movie. But it wasn't watching this, Sammy and I were both, I think, very surprised to find out, you know, the elaborate backstory involving a secret corporation of talking babies and
Starting point is 00:05:16 magic, and there's like a wizard clock and things like that. I like when Armstrong, he like, the back of his robots who opened in, as himself the baby, he just stepped out. Yeah, so there's a baby that wears a robot suit. We'll get into all this. And I think because there's no, I think it's just like his head with the wig that pops out of the machine. Yeah, the same, do you want to say? So, Sammy, do you want to tell us what you thought about the movie before we do the summary I think it's just like his head with the wig that pops out of the machine. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:45 So, same you do you want to say, so same you do you want to tell us what you thought about the movie before we do the summary or do you want to be here for some or explain what happens in the movie for us? Or do you want to or do you want to help me to the summary and explain what happens in the movie? I'll help explain. Okay. So buckle up everybody.
Starting point is 00:05:59 I'll correct you if you're wrong. Yeah, please correct me. Okay, so again, we have not seen the original movie, so a lot of what we're picking up from the original movie is just context clues from this one. But there's an opening voiceover that revealed comes from Tim, who I guess was the older brother in the first movie. And now he's a grown up and he's a stay-at-home dad who still has an overactive imagination, which I guess means that in the first movie he had an overactive imagination, yes?
Starting point is 00:06:26 I get so apart from the changing of the active babies. I wanted to let you look for any part. Okay, well, when we get to that part, you just remember that. Now, and the dad is voiced by James Marston, who, you know, I like, I like James Marston. He's been the best part of many flop house movies. And he, and this dad is, he's kind of like a young dad. He's pretty hip.
Starting point is 00:06:45 He looks like a warby Parker ad, right? Certainly. He's certainly a young hipster dad who never thought that he'd be living out in the suburbs. He assumed he would live in the city. But now he lives out in the suburbs and he's loving it. Still wearing skinny jeans, I like it. According to Wikipedia, this character
Starting point is 00:06:59 was voiced by Toby McGuire in the first movie. And also the character that was the Toby McGuire character, the originally had wanted Pat and Oswald. I don't know whether he was cast and had to step away because of his family tragedy or what the story was. But he was also going to be that, like, so this is kind of like Mark III of this character. Of Tim.
Starting point is 00:07:22 Now, and that was a little bit of our regular feature boss baby behind the bleachers where Dan tells you the real behind the scenes backstage drama behind the making of the boss baby. Dan, other boss baby stories do you have for us? Yeah. Well, let's see. And don't worry about don't worry. I know you don't like to reveal names or your sources. Just tell us the little birdie.
Starting point is 00:07:42 It's all a little boss birdie. I hear that the first boss baby is kind of good at the beginning of the gets convoluted. I don't know, man. You heard it here first, folks. That's the kind of juicy, exclusive behind the scenes, guys, you can only get from Dan McCoy and boss baby behind the one thing about boss. I feel like now I've been, I feel like dance is wet in our, our, our, our lips like Dan's just wet in our lips. So you just wet in our taste buds for this. I'll find some other boss baby facts to drop in later on.
Starting point is 00:08:10 I support this. Yeah, let's the joke. I think Dan, we'll be back to you later with, if I remember, with more from the boss baby behind the bleachers. So I guess look up your network of little birdies, your little chickadees that are in your spider's web that feed you information that allow you to control bossarose, the boss baby kingdom.
Starting point is 00:08:30 Thank you. So Tim, he does have a real overactive imagination. Almost immediately we are thrown into his kaleidoscopic hallucinations that he is, he is his family are now race car drivers, where he's an old-west saloon keeper, he's a mad scientist with a stuffed animal. He's the kind of dad who is, I imagine, for other adults a lot to deal with, and they
Starting point is 00:08:50 serve on lava right here. You can say it in the microphone. Yeah, feel free to interrupt me, because I know I'm going to interrupt those guys a lot, just like at home. Yeah, he's got one of those Gabriel Garcia Marquez imaginations, right? Okay. That's the way I would describe it. I recently, this is behind the looking glass, not the little witness behind this.
Starting point is 00:09:12 I will read a book aloud to my wife before we go to bed, like we could read through books and we just started 100 years of solitude, which I had read before, but she had not. And yeah, I think until seeing the boss, maybe a family business, there was nothing else. I saw that really reminded me of the story of the Wendy of Family, is it?
Starting point is 00:09:29 Guys, watching this movie, I have a question. And that's, what is real? That's a good point because he has an overactive imagination, which causes them to be like race car drivers and stuff. But then in the real movie, in reality, there's a secret corporation of babies that have super high tech technology and a baby pretending to be a person and a magic formula that can de-age you. So his imagination is actually less crazy than the stuff that happens in the real. If anything, his imag- his imaginations are a coping mechanism allowing a more mundane human version of the world to
Starting point is 00:10:05 compete with the bizarre world he lives in. Yes, you talk about that. Why would he pretend to, why would Armstrong pretend to be a grown-up if he wants to get rid of them? Because he needs to find a way to indoctrinate the babies. We'll get to that. We'll get to that. Okay, so because we're only, I think, 15 seconds.
Starting point is 00:10:20 Although I think, I think when we do the poll later in the episode as to what character do we each find most fascinating, I think I can when we do the poll later in the episode as to what character do we each find the most fascinating? I think I can guess sammies cows guys I have a I have a behind the bleachers Bulletin for you unfortunately. It's not time for that right now We get to it in just a minute, okay, but Tim has a wife Carol who wears surprisingly tight workout pants and carol who wears surprisingly tight workout pants and to play by you longer and two daughters tabatha and baby tina dan what is your behind the bleachers story oh yeah sorry uh it is that uh in the original film the boss baby uh young
Starting point is 00:10:56 timothy was played by miles back she who is uh the grandson of Ralph back she oh I saw his name in the credits and I wondered if that was the set. So animation royalty, air to the throne of cartoons that are more groundbreaking than successful. Apparently I think in many ways. Or fun to watch. I should write hair.
Starting point is 00:11:17 You want hair. Which one is one? And there's no sight of me. You're talking just talking to my phone. We can have a time here. No, I'm talking to my phone. Daddy, who's the character with the orange-ish red no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no a family, Ted, the titular boss baby from the first movie, is now a successful millionaire, but he seems to be lonely at the top. He's all alone.
Starting point is 00:11:49 Real Rosebud situation. Exactly. So Tabitha, the older daughter, she's very ambitious and responsible and overachiever. She idolizes her uncle, Ted. And her dad is too silly for her. When he goes to give her a good night kiss, she wants a good night handshake, which is a rough moment for any dad. Let me tell you. Sammy, the first time that you want to give me a handshake, which is a rough moment for any dad. Let me tell you. Sammy, the first time that you want to give me a handshake
Starting point is 00:12:07 instead of a kiss, I will be devastated. But I know it's gonna happen because we'll be in business together as the Kaelin boys podcasting network. Guys, I hate to break it to you. We will. I don't talk to Sammy about it yet, but I think what, right?
Starting point is 00:12:19 It's gonna be called Kaelin and Suns. It looks serious. Sammy does a lot of same his reactions to my jokes are withering stares. Yep. I have a quit now. So this is this moment in the movie. I have a question for you as a father, Elliot.
Starting point is 00:12:33 Now, certainly I understand not wanting a handshake and replacement for a kiss. Like I, I- Yeah, just think about the movie prelude to a handshake. No, it's not. There's no romance to it. It's gotta be prelude to a kiss. I have handshake from Rose. I have handshake from Rose. Handshake from Rose. No, got handshake. There's no romance to it. It's got to be prelude to a kiss. Imagine handshake of the spite handshake from Rose. No
Starting point is 00:12:47 good handshake of the spider woman. No, who cares? You know, I understand being distressed. A handshake before dying. Come on. That your child handshake bang bang. Come on, it just loses a lot. Yeah. Am I really going to go see a band called handshake? I don't care. What kind of makeup they wear or whether they want to rock all night and party every day. They're called Handshake. Come on.
Starting point is 00:13:08 Now is that also all in caps and it stands for something? I'll have that. Yeah, it stands for, it's hoodlums, attacking normal denominations, supporting healthy and Christian with a K education. Oh, wow. It started out a lot more sort of bad than the ending there. I mean, it's just their version of Knights and Satan service.
Starting point is 00:13:32 You know, they're against Christian education. So they're against it. I see they're attacking it. Yeah. Because remember, it's hoodlums against normal denominations. The normal denominations are supporting healthy and Christian education, handshake.
Starting point is 00:13:46 I think in the world you get the thing. Normal to nominations, comma, supporting, what is it? No, I don't think, I think the comma makes it seem like it's the hoodlums that are supporting it. That's what I, that was the confusion. Well, I see, I see. Oh, no, no, no. It's very- Are we coming back to the movie?
Starting point is 00:14:06 That's what the show was. Welcome to the show, Samy. Welcome to the show. So, Dan, what was your question about handshake? My concern was- And being a grown, being a dad. Look, I get, I get, you know, feeling your child is growing up too soon and, uh,
Starting point is 00:14:19 fearing the day they won't need you anymore. But, um, right before that, she doesn't want a good night song that he was gonna sing on the guitar. And I did feel like, this is probably because I am a heartless, childless man, but I did feel like, as if I were a parent,
Starting point is 00:14:42 the moment at which my child does not require a long ceremony to get to sleep, I would be excited by. I feel like I'd be like, let me get back out into the living room while I'm here. Sammy, put your hands over your ears for this. Dan, you are exactly right. Exactly right. But here's the thing. There's a lot about parenting.
Starting point is 00:15:01 Okay, you can take your hands off. There's a lot about parenting where, and you put his hands on over the headphones. So, it's not going to be a matter. So, if there's a lot about parenting that you really can't wait to be done with until you're done with it, and then you miss it. So, like, the time that when you're like, ugh, this baby is keeping me up all night,
Starting point is 00:15:18 I can't wait till he sleeps through the night. There is a moment where that ends, and you're like, but my baby needed me, and now he doesn't need me. And so that's the way it was the parents. Every night I'm sure Tim was like, oh, I got to sing a song, but now that she doesn't want the song, he's like, blah, blah, blah, blah,
Starting point is 00:15:32 are special moments. This has been clear that someday you'll leave and I'll die. And frankly, as we'll find out later, she can use a little bit more musical education. Oh, for sure. We'll find out she really does need it. So anyway, he, it's a real, there's a real cat in a cradle moment as he's thinking about the past.
Starting point is 00:15:53 And then he's interrupted by, okay, by a talking wizard that's also a toy clock. And this is the first of the moments the movie where I was like, wait a minute, is this a magic movie? Because- The first magical part of the movie that was strange. Yeah, Cuzco, can you- A wizard that lost it, Tand.
Starting point is 00:16:09 Yeah, can you describe this wizard clock? Mm-hm. Uh, wizard in blue robes with, was it stars on his robes? Mm-hm, classic. Uh, he has one hand. Apparently, I think he lost it when Tim shoved him in a box. Yeah. And he but he's he's angry and he wants revenge. And he's like the toys in Toy Story, right? Like he can talk. He can think and talk. Yeah. Do we ever see another toy act this way
Starting point is 00:16:35 in the movie? Yes, we do. When when that toy that or is it just how it's supposed to be the toy that Tina disguises? She puts it in her bed as her. Well, but that, yeah, that's true. That one kind of talks a little bit too. But I think that one was more just supposed to be a stuffed animal. You're right. It's ambiguous as to whether any other toys in this world could talk. It's very, it's like she's telling a very for podcast fans.
Starting point is 00:17:03 It's very used to door the blue type energy. Yeah, yeah. That's very, it's like, it's like, it's a challenge for podcast fans. It's very usador the blue type energy. Yeah, yeah, that's a good way to put it. And so this, this podcast fans, this wizard toy clock is like, he's, Tim's like, I wish I could turn back the clock and the wizard is like,
Starting point is 00:17:16 don't doubt my power, I'll do it. And I was like, okay, so that's what this is about. It's gonna be about a magic toy clock that makes them young again. No, it is not. That wizard just is a character that that makes them young again. No, it is not that wizard It just is a character that pops up a comic relief later. He's friends with a toy of Skeletor
Starting point is 00:17:29 Which but the skeleton doesn't talk because I was kind of hoping Skeletor would tell say would you Daddy, yeah, yes Talk to the microphone you don't have to whisper to me That's okay I think this is later in the movie. That's okay. We can jump around. We can jump around. Jump around.
Starting point is 00:17:45 Jump up and down. When they become, when they're going to the school, that's, was it A corn school? The A corn school, yeah. Yeah. When they're going to it, they have to sleep in the attic of their house because they don't want anybody noticing them.
Starting point is 00:18:00 Yes. So apparently the clock rings with daylight savings so they have to like rush out the door. Yes, exactly. So the clock does the- So he forgets to set it for daylight savings. So apparently I guess it's near daylight savings. Okay, that's good for us to know. Excellent.
Starting point is 00:18:17 Well, because it's Christmas time, right? Like it's winter time. So they're supposed to winter back. Was it nice for you guys to see snow since your winters have not been particularly snowy lately? How did you feel? Because Sammy, I know you've missed snow quite a bit. You're very vocal about that. Was it nice to see snow again? See snow again. I mean, it was not like real. No, no, but just in the movie. Was it nice? That was my question. What's real? No, no, but just in the movie was it nice that was my question. What's real?
Starting point is 00:18:48 Because right after we moved to Los Angeles, I went to go see spider-man Home again home again spider-man home again home again jiggity Jake and the and seeing him on the subway Really brought I don't even away from New York for a couple months But seeing him on the subway in that movie really brought back pangs of like oh, I don't get to do that anymore I like seeing snow in the movie and the last time I've seen snow was on my sixth birthday. Yeah, right. It was a long time ago. It was a year and a half ago. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:13 And it was around the time we were, the last time we were in New York during the winter, right? Yeah. Yeah. Although we were just in New Jersey visiting my parents. And there were only a few like, there were only like a few snowflakes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:24 And what did you get to see on this New Jersey trip that we don't get to see in Los Angeles? Fender and night like storms. Yeah. And rain. And we also, we were at my dad's house and there were bats flying around in the backyard. And it was very funny because it was like, all they were doing was flying around. If these had been birds, nobody would have batten an eye, no pun intended. But because they were bats, everyone was running around screaming as if they were actual veil. All the grandma, what you was doing that? Yeah, I guess that's true. All the grandma. I was trying to make it bats, everyone was running around screaming as if they were actual veil. All the grandma Audrey was doing that. Yeah, I guess that's true. Only grandma.
Starting point is 00:19:47 I was trying to make it sound like everyone was. Okay, so, uh, baby Tina, make a long story story. She reveals to Tim that she can talk and under her pajamas is a business suit. I guess she's the new boss baby. Amy Sedaris. And Samie Sedaris. Yeah, her baby. It seems like every clothes she's wearing seems like she she has the suit on under every clothes she has on.
Starting point is 00:20:07 It might just be your skin. What do you think, is that the case? No, it can't be. Okay, well, that's called yes and. Because you see her skin like her hair on her face. That's true. It's not like black, it's not the color of like, like, microphone.
Starting point is 00:20:23 Okay, good point. That's a very good point. All right, he's, he's, he's proven good point. That's a very good point. All right. He's, he's proven me wrong. And she reveals that she is from Baby Core. And it was like, what? I didn't see the first movie. Baby.
Starting point is 00:20:32 But this is. Yeah. No, Baby Core. Which would be, I guess we're, we're judge, widow, Harry. Suspense is justice. Daddy, is it, is it, is it Baby Core? Like, isn't like, it connected to A-Quarn School?
Starting point is 00:20:44 And Baby Tina is a baby. So it seems like she has to be working for the bad guy. No, no, because baby here's the baby Corp and the bad guy are opposing sides. So baby Corp turns out is a secret magic corporation run by babies. And again, when the purple light comes through that glove in a baby Corp, It seems like they're all happy. When it goes away, it seems like they're still all happy. No, I think they were unhappy. They were like, oh, they were monitoring the situation
Starting point is 00:21:11 and they were unhappy about it. But that lack of clarity was getting to me also, because I actually that globe I forgot where it was supposed to be happening. So baby core, as you may have known from the first movie, but I didn't, is a magic corporation run by babies. And I guess Ted, Tim's brother, it's like heaven or something.
Starting point is 00:21:28 It seems like it's in the clouds and it's all made out of holograms and it's from a strange. It's like, how did they, and it's like, it seems like they were holograms, but nobody else was there. And they got there by sucking on like magic pacifiers that took them through a portal in space.
Starting point is 00:21:43 It's all, suddenly the movie kicks into overdrive. They were like, they were fighting over, they were fighting over who would have the pacifier, they each wanted the other one to have it. Yeah. And then I think it was like baby Tina, she took the one that they had and then she tossed two other ones and then they started sucking on them. Yeah, that's actually, that happens a little bit later and it was watching the movie with my son.
Starting point is 00:22:07 I really did not care for the scene where they were yelling, you suck it. No, you suck it and she goes, why don't you both suck it? And then some of those guys are as I was like unnecessary. Anyway, baby core, she's very pushy. There's a problem with baby core. She needs his help and she needs help to get Uncle Ted, who's now grown up. It says later in the movie that she quit baby core. I never saw it.
Starting point is 00:22:24 But that was just a ruse. That was just a, that was just a, a shaker. She never said that. She did. It says later in the movie that she quits baby crying ever so long. But that was just a ruse. That was just a, that was just a, a shaker. She never said that. She did. It was a clever ruse. So, for some reason, Tim has a flip-flown and they, she, by recording, by recording Ted's, by recording Tim's voice on like a Teddy Ruck's bin, she's able to patch together a message to leave on the voicemail of his brother Ted.
Starting point is 00:22:43 And this is where it starts getting frustrating that the main characters named Tim and Ted and they're the daughters are named Tabitha and Tina and it was very easy for me to get their names mixed up. All four T's. All four T's. And Sammy's comment at the time when we watched was, that was a fun scene. So that's what he said immediately after it was over. When?
Starting point is 00:23:00 Oh, when they were changing back? No, no, when he first finds out that she's a baby. Yeah. Yeah. And that seemed like it was kind of creepy at first, but then it was like silly. when they're changing back. No, no, when he when he first finds out that she's a baby that can talk. And not that that seemed because it seems like it was kind of creepy at first, but then was like silly. Yeah, not to tip my eventual feelings for this movie, but you know, like this is one of those points
Starting point is 00:23:17 where I'm like, you know, hearing Sammy's reaction just points up the fact that the major problem with this movie is I'm not the demographic that this is meant for. No, so Jim, they're a baby. No, so Jim, they're a baby. They're a baby. Well, Dan's not a baby or a boss, so.
Starting point is 00:23:31 Yeah. Because I watched the first thing where they were tossing the formula back and forth and drinking it. And I was kind of like, at this point in the movie, I'm like, well clearly there's enough formula for both of them. They both want.
Starting point is 00:23:47 And it seems like when they drank it, there were still still a whole thing was left. Yeah. So why are they fighting over it? And I liked when Tim like drank the first little bit of it. He like grew a mustache and he shrunk. Because they're getting younger a little bit. So yeah, but how come, how come Tim didn't, did, how come Ted became a, a baby, but Tim was still like a kid.
Starting point is 00:24:14 Maybe they only had so much de agent formula. Yeah, we'll get to that. I think this movie, this is the point where Tim, I think, uh, this is the point where Tim, I think, this is the point where Tim proves that he's not a very good dad because he insists on going on this adventure at the fact that he knows he's going to have to, like, he knows how long it's gonna last 48 hours and he knows that's going to possibly jeopardize going to see his daughters recital
Starting point is 00:24:39 and also he's gonna have to lie to his wife and family for a while. Well, he's, he's still has the mug that his world's best dad. I think he should turn it in. This is where... The problem with him as a dad is that all his dadding is about him. It's the Tim show and the kids need to be entertained
Starting point is 00:24:56 by the Tim show and clearly they are exhausted by it. And which I totally get because I put maybe one-one-hundredth of the effort into my dad's show that I put on and it exhausts my children. Like they're all kind of hostages to his fantasy. When they were going to school, it was crazy because when Ted Whistled, this pony precious would follow the whistling.
Starting point is 00:25:23 Well, that's just cartoon logic. Okay. We should wait. I want to very quickly fill in the gap of where the plot where we left off. But Dan, what were you gonna say before I do that? Well, just this is one of those instances of like cartoon or like movie logic when it comes to parenting where like the worst thing in a movie
Starting point is 00:25:42 is to miss a recital. And that is given the most weight, whereas the fact that he becomes a child and abandons his wife in charge of the other kid, kids for 48 hours, as you say, is kind of like just played over as a joke. And she's like Yeah, I know I but she's not
Starting point is 00:26:09 Extremely angry as I was it I would expect like someone just disappearing right before Christmas I mean his parents are there to take to help out to Go and they have those like those like things where they can like detect they can she baby Tina can like see where they are And they can like detect, they can, she, baby Tina can like see where they are and they can spy on Armstrong. I think it's funny when they find out who, when Ted actually finds out who Armstrong is and he just eats a lot of candy and Ted accidentally drops the butterfly when he has into one of the candy bowls and Armstrong pops it into his mouth and cringes on it.
Starting point is 00:26:44 Mm-hmm. I would like about this episode. And I think it's still like CNSARS mouth. and Armstrong pops it into his mouth and cringes on it. I think it's still like sea inside his mouth. I think so. This episode is a very slaughterhouse five billy pilgrim unstuck in time, sort of telling of the story. Just adding to more of the Gabriel Garcia Marquez feel. So to feel in briefly, it turns out Ted doesn't remember being a baby boss.
Starting point is 00:27:01 He's now a real boss. He's a millionaire. Tabitha loves Ted. He doesn't remember until he Ted. He doesn't remember until he sees... He doesn't remember until he sees... Until he sees the statue, the gold statue of him in baby core. Yeah, Tina gives the magic pacifiers as mentioned. They are old to suck it. And they go to baby core headquarters where there's a big gold statue of him. And Ted remembers how great he is as a baby. And she says, here's the baby crisis monitor center. There's this guy, Dr. Irwin Armstrong,
Starting point is 00:27:27 voiced by Jeff Goldblum. And he runs Tabitha's school. And he wants kids to be more ambitious so they can run the world. He's trying to destroy childhood. This is even the childhood. He wants babies to rule the world. So he's teaching them to code and stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:27:43 And he wants to get rid of all parents and at the end of the movie, he will get to that. Yeah, that's a real big reveal. So she gives them a magic formula that D.A.G. is them. They fight over it for no real reason. Like as we've said, there's enough for both of them. Well, let's do the time work. And it's not even be taking the serum.
Starting point is 00:28:03 No, and it's from, they say while time work from Rocky Harbor Picture Show plays, and this is the first of several questionable music backing choices where, if someone's like later, at later, during the, there's a moment where the babies all dance to push it. I think that's because it says, ooh baby baby, but it's like,
Starting point is 00:28:20 there's 100%. The other lyrics in the song are push it, and like it's not, it's not a, it's not a, appropriate song. Also, the version of the time warp they're using, like sounds like a karaoke track, because it just has the backing singers, but has, you know, reasonably for a child's movie,
Starting point is 00:28:36 removed the main lyrics, but there will still be like spaces for it in the music, so you'll have like this kind of blank where it's like the, it's just a jump to the left part should go. But then you do have backup singers singing and then a step to the ride. And it's so strange.
Starting point is 00:28:57 It's very confusing. And this fight ends with the two of them at one is a kid and the other is a baby pinching each other's nipples and screaming and pain. And I was like, don't care for for that that's not something that I like to see in the kids movie. One hat and one just has underpants on and one is naked. Yes the baby is naked. This is the moment when Sammy said this is hilarious this movie is the best we're watching it. To the part when they're going to school, I think it's they're writing precious.
Starting point is 00:29:26 Well, so, so wait, they have to go to the school to plant spy devices. So Armstrong and precious is a pony that uncle Ted got for taboo. I can't believe he brought Sammy along to stunt on my own summary doing. Are you just showing me how bad I am at doing summaries? No, no, no. So Sammy, what was your feel about this pony precious who plays a bigger and bigger part in He's just showing me how bad I am at doing summaries. No, no, no. So Sammy, what was your feel about this pony precious? Who plays a bigger and bigger part in the movie as it goes on?
Starting point is 00:29:50 Uh-huh. It seems like she's always saving them. Yeah. It's much like Gandalf in the Hobbit, where Bill Bo and the others will just get into a big trouble and Gandalf will show up and go, all right, get on this ego, a little fly to safety like this horse keeps coming into save. And just like Gandalf in the into save. And just like, I just like,
Starting point is 00:30:06 I'm like, does she have a boyfriend? Cause I'm developing a crush. They went, when they're going to school, they ride precious to pony. And then they, it's around Christmas time.
Starting point is 00:30:17 Say, Bum, that's like, mug, that has all these like fake presents in it. And then they're riding in the, Tim's riding in the mug, well, Ted is still writing on top of precious and there's a big chase here right? Yeah and then uh and oh wait no wait no and then
Starting point is 00:30:35 uh I think it was it's uh and then they're fam and then the rest of the family sees them writing and then they go like ahead of them and then the rest of the family sees them riding. And then they go like a head of them, and then the cop, and then the, or the, oh, the triplets. Yeah, the triplets. Yeah, the characters in the first movie are now grown up in our motorcycle cops. They're chasing them, and then they ride,
Starting point is 00:30:58 is it next that they ride into the Christmas tree? Well, they ride through a movie theater that seems to play a spirit stallion of the Simmerone. And then they're, and then we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're the Simmerone another dreamer that has been forgotten by time and then and then And then Christmas tree no wait no and then precious Ted Tim the cup with the fake presents and the triplets Ride through and the guy in the movie theater chair that they oh yeah, I think
Starting point is 00:31:24 No, I'm saying when they crashed through the movie. Oh, sorry. Yeah, I'm so the movie's going and there's one guy in the movie theater chair that they know I'm saying when they crashed to the movie screen yeah and there's one guy in the theater and does he write along with the big hat he gets tangled up in there when there's a similar in played there's one yeah nobody in the theater and then and then they crashed through a Christmas tree with the mayor and I think the and the Christmas tree first into flame for some reason. Uh-huh. And then by some reason they ride into the snow and they become a huge snowball. Yeah, so it's a very this movie gets more and more kind of hectic and hyperactive as it goes along much like the snowball. It builds up speed until by the end of the movie it was hard
Starting point is 00:31:59 for me to kind of keep track of the images I was seeing on screen and you just have Jeff Goldblum spitting out one liners, like no matter what was happening on screen, whether he was on screen or not. It was very, it was, the movie just kind of, it was a little bit like you're on one of those spinny playground rides, and you lose control of it, and you're just, you end up falling off it.
Starting point is 00:32:20 Anyway, so. And then they get to the school. But there, but the, but the family's car is like right on the road that yeah they almost get seen but but they they managed to pass by. So Tim has told his family that he's gonna be on a brother's bonding trip. So that's how he covers up his abs. And his brother Ted has this like helicopter and when they go upstairs into the attic, the helicopter lifts off and leaves. So it's like they're going on the trip.
Starting point is 00:32:52 And back to the school. So they go there. So there's these colors. So describe the school. Describe the school. It's like a futuristic kind of theme park, right? Yeah, and there's all the. The kids are all organized by colored bed.
Starting point is 00:33:03 Yeah, there's yellow, green, red, purple, and blue, and blue is the, is the highest and yellow is the lowest. Yep. And Tim gets yellow. Wait, what does high mean and what does low mean, Sammy? Oh, that's a good question. What do you mean by the highest and the lowest? Like, like, the smartest case going to blue and the like young babies go into yellow.
Starting point is 00:33:25 And these babies are... Babies are smart. Uh... Ooh, wow, he's caught you there, Sammy. Are you saying babies are not smart? I'm saying that these babies are just learning. They're like... Okay. The babies are like... They're trying to get a chance.
Starting point is 00:33:41 This is why I want them to run for all of this. The squirting glue on his face and stick things to it a cancel. This is why I want him to run for office. And then you're to the squirting blue on his face and stick things to it. Yeah. And there's a bit of a switcheroo where Tim gets yellow. Tim gets yellow and Ted gets blue and then Tim tricks Ted. And so he ends up with blue. So he's in tabitha's class.
Starting point is 00:33:57 And even get these uniforms. To even get these uniforms, they had to pull a little hitman agent 47 action. Uh, wait a minute. We're not talking about video games i thought this was a video broadcast guys and tim call tim calls himself uh... was it marcos light speak is the name he gives in the class and there's and i was so he
Starting point is 00:34:15 be starts becoming friends with tabatha and i was so worrying and dan and suerl know what i mean but say me want this is going to get into back to the future territory back to the future yeah it does not get into back to the future territory. Back to the future territory. Luckily, it does not get into back to the future territory. I thought it would be funny if the producers of it were worried about that interpretation because it does feel like there's that tension in those scenes. Oh, there's a scene where I feel like she's about to kiss him
Starting point is 00:34:41 and I was like, don't do this movie. When they're hanging out at her house. At their house. Their house, you know, because Marcos' light speeds house. So he doesn't like, he doesn't exist. It's not like he's a kid that's a real. What is real?
Starting point is 00:34:58 No, but I just thought it would be funny if like the producers like, like, solved the problem in the most inappropriate way possible, whereas like in all of those scenes together, they would just have like a subtitle of the bottom that flashing saying like, don't worry, though she's too young to like fully understand this about herself yet,
Starting point is 00:35:17 she's going to grow up to like girls. So this is okay. What? So don't worry, you don't have to worry about that thing happening. Back to how they get their uniforms. Thank you for getting us back on track, thank you. Ted is rich, so he has like,
Starting point is 00:35:34 he has a big role of money, but where did he get it from? Cause he was a naked baby not long before this. I don't know. Does he like, you get in his touch? I've got. Yeah. Does he have to like poop it out? Yeah, I know.
Starting point is 00:35:47 Yeah, Sammy, he does have to poop it out. And he like, he's like pulling bills out and throwing it on the ground and these kids that were for a corn from a corn school, they're picking it up and they go into a bush and you don't know, and then they switch clothes. Tim and Ted walk out wearing the uniforms. Now let's just say this is the Acorn School, not affiliated with Acorn, the former community activism organization.
Starting point is 00:36:17 Cool, thank you, man. And not affiliated with Acorn TV, bringing you the finest in British language television shows. I do like the uniform has like a little Elmer Fud hat. I think that's great. Yes, shaped kind of like an acorn. Oh, it's like a detective.
Starting point is 00:36:33 Yeah, it's like a big deer stalker cap. So, like Sherlock homewrest. Exactly, Dan, does that pass your... I am very glad that Sammy knows what a deer stalker is by name. Because Dan's a big Sherlock Holmes fan. Stan Sammy is unimpressed like Sherlock Holmes fan. I don't know why that should be impressive. So I've seen a pretty player one day in the most impressive thing you can be in the world
Starting point is 00:37:00 is a fan of something. Oh yeah. Exactly. That's the cultural currency. Yeah, it's more important to know about what happens in movies from actually before you were born, but when the writer of the thing was alive, and then to know how to fix a car, dig a well,
Starting point is 00:37:15 you know, any of that kind of stuff, start a fire in the woods, not necessary. If you were in the woods, and you had the choice between two skill sets, trapping animals and starting a fire, or knowing all the lines to back to the future, which one should you pick? And wrong answer, you don't have to pick. You already know all the lines to back to the future because you're a genius.
Starting point is 00:37:32 But I feel like you'd be some kind of a barred type figure or a scald where telling the story of back to the future would earn you a day's meal and rest from the hardworking people. Very much. I mean, it's essentially the plot of the play, Mr. Burns, in which the retelling of episode of The Simpsons brings society back together. Oh, back to the movie, Sammy. Okay. So Tim goes to Tabitha's class, and he's really impressed by what a good student she is, and the class is more like just a game show. Like Armstrong appears.
Starting point is 00:38:03 It's like... It's let Armstrong, the principal, appears on a view screen and just ask them questions in different topics. That's the whole school. And there, and it's like a competition. They're competing over, it's like a game show. They're competing over who can win. Yes.
Starting point is 00:38:18 And there are these two nerds there who are bullying Tabitha. And I had some real John Hodgman flashbacks. One, one, the nerds, it like she never talks. Yeah, and so Ted is really impressed by Ted with a, meanwhile, Ted is stuck in this chaotic rubber room for babies. You know, Tim is in, oh sorry, Tim is in the class. Ted is in the baby room.
Starting point is 00:38:37 He said Ted was in the, Oh, what a, oh man. The baby room doesn't even have any grownups in it. It's literally just a pad, there's no baby's in the, in the no, there's no grownups in the school. There's no grownups in the school. And there's this like frame that takes some there. And Ted tries to convince the kids
Starting point is 00:38:55 and to make this machine, because he sees a window and tries to get into blue. Yeah, so Ted manages to. And Tim wants to go to the principal's office so he can reveal who Armstrong is. Well, they have to go to the principal's office to plant the spy to the principal's office, right? And Tim thinks the only way to go to the principal's office
Starting point is 00:39:20 is to get into trouble. So he's like kicking desks and that and stuff. Yeah, and so this is, and this is, you know, while Ted is organizing the babies to help him escape, Tim is being like a bad boy, all too tricky. I do want to point out that we're supposed to assume that like, Tim has never been to his daughter's school. Like, he seems shocked at every step of this process. I mean, to be with COVID COVID, like I've never been inside
Starting point is 00:39:45 my younger son's preschool. Oh, I forgot that they mentioned that this was early on they mentioned all the events are taking place during COVID. There's a disclaimer that comes up to this disclaimer. For plot purposes, when it helps us, this is taking place during COVID. When it doesn't help us, like the fact no one's
Starting point is 00:40:00 very masked, this is not a COVID time. And the beginning of the movie, it says that Tabitha School is like the best and educational, but at the end of the movie, it seems like it's the worst school. Yeah, and also it's supposed to be an exclusive school, but everyone in town's kids goes there. Because all the people we've seen are there at the pageant later on.
Starting point is 00:40:18 Okay, so, but Tim, he doesn't get sent to the Printful's offices. He gets sent to solitary confinement in a sort of Meditation room where and you say away plays all the time. Yeah, it looked really fun Yeah, can you sing it Sammy? So you don't know Sammy when before you were born that song was all over the place. And it just plays there and and he just sits there and and it's so relaxing. Everyone who goes there just falls asleep and I think they call it the box. They call the box. And now now you also don't know because you weren't born yet that the the the hardcore answer to
Starting point is 00:41:01 sail away was sail away. You can fly which was what those ads for duars or something? It was something that was there for some reason. I'm going to stick, so they're going to be like, I'm sailing away that one. No, no, that's also fairly soft, you know. Yeah. You're a lot of pure moods back then, though. Yeah, when you were just acting to the title.
Starting point is 00:41:22 When you were whacking at the time, those pleasures of tubular bells, you were like, if you didn't hear DJ Dito's remix of the X-Files theme, then I don't know When you were so lucky to the title, the pleasures of tubular bells, you were. If you didn't hear DJ Ditos remix the ex-files theme, then I don't know what you were doing. Yeah. If you were, you know, a lot of times I just get home from school, throw my books on the
Starting point is 00:41:35 couch and just, and just, and just turn up the. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, I mean, there was turned to innocent. Vogue for chanting that came back It was huge Okay, Sammy that's enough sailing way
Starting point is 00:41:51 So okay anyway Ted escapes and yet to Armstrong's office But Armstrong is there He's not out of the office the way he was told it would be Armstrong reveals almost instantly to Ted That he's actually a baby in wearing a robot adult suit And his head is the only part that you can really see of his real body.
Starting point is 00:42:08 But he wears a wig, right? Yeah. Because he's just a big bald baby. And he's very young that he loves candy. Yes, just like the premise song about how we know to have a big bald baby. And it seems like he uses candy as weapons. Yeah, he loves candy.
Starting point is 00:42:25 At certain points, he's just eating handfuls of sugar in the head of a bag. No, like I can't even wonder where he's like, he's like, he's like, don't think she'll go into his mouth. Yeah. And he takes handfuls of like, sugar in of like gumballs and stuff them into mouth. And that's how we ate the ladybug spider.
Starting point is 00:42:44 The spiderv vice, yeah. So during one small while Audrey would make fun of me because she would be sitting next to me on the couch, not particularly watching Boss Baby. But family business. You love this movie because I would giggle at some of this stuff. And I did, this was a gag that I enjoyed. Once it was revealed that he was a baby,
Starting point is 00:43:03 just every cut back to him eating other kinds of candy so I got a couple of questions here one is okay Lamont this is a segment so this is segment we do every week that's called that's called BB Q&A that's boss baby question answers hosted by Stuart Wellington yeah so first question obviously here's the theme song BB Q&A not a BB Q that's a barbecue it's, BB Q&A, not a BB Q. That's a barbecue. It's boss baby Q&A questions answers about that boss, baby, and here's that boss, baby himself, Stewart Wellington. Cool. So the, oh,
Starting point is 00:43:33 thank you. I'm glad that I get a little bit of time. Well, you're the host. Yeah. I mean, that's the thing. Every moment is precious. It's great. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:43 So the thing is, is that, are we supposed to believe that, though he is a baby, he looks like a grown up old, what I'm coded as Jewish man. And if this is a, second question is this a commentary that old Jewish men look like babies.
Starting point is 00:43:58 Elliot, what do you think? I mean, all babies look like older gentlemen. I mean, that's the big joke. The big joke is that all babies look like Winston Churchill who was not Jewish but was a little bald old man. So I think it is, it is maybe a statement on the resemblance of old babies, not old babies. Old babies are just grownups.
Starting point is 00:44:17 The statement on the resemblance of young babies to old men because really when you think about it, we're all Benjamin butting. When we're, when we become old men, we turn into babies again in the looks of our business. He says it also is possible. It's also possible that they that's a commentary on Wallace John who is both an older gentleman and also looks like a baby. Even though he's not playing the part, he could have played the part if Jeff Goldblum
Starting point is 00:44:36 had said no. Thankfully for Jeff Goldblum's pocketbook, he said yes. In the movie, it also said Armstrong also says that when he was at his home, his parents would like, would like, read them like fancy like books that would like, look, teach you a lot of stuff. But he was saying that his parents were very dumb and that he was very smart. But it seems like that he's like, they would like let them check out books, but you would think that they were really smart, too. Well, I'm not almost like a scientist. Yeah, so I'm not sure if what they're saying is that his parents made him too smart, that they made him listen to lots of Mozart, and they read him
Starting point is 00:45:20 smart books, whether they made him too smart, or whether even their level of smartness to him was dumbness because he is such a genius. No, but... Because how do you think about, because I know you think you're smarter than me. So is it that I'm smart and you're super smart or I'm dumb and the regular smart? I just can see it in your eyes.
Starting point is 00:45:40 I don't think you can. Okay. You can't remind. Try to read what I'm thinking about. Yeah, yeah, just thinking about, okay, is it about the Dodgers? No. Is it about Hot Dogs?
Starting point is 00:45:51 No. Is it about Boss Baby? Is it about Boss Baby? No. Okay, is it about, uh, what are other things that you would like to know? Is it about how you're going to eventually replace Ellie? Yeah, is it how you're going to replace me someday?
Starting point is 00:46:03 No. Is it about Penguins? No. Is it about scorp someday? No, is it about penguins? No, is about scorpions? No, is it about Legos? No, is it about chicken nuggets? No, is it about chicken nuggets? Like dinosaurs? No. Is it about goger? Goger? Yeah, is it about goger? No, is it about having having a having a in your back pocket? what's the thing that Bart Simpson has in his back, a slingshot, is about having a slingshot in your back pocket? No. Is it about, is it about how pizza is circular, but it comes in a box and it comes in a box.
Starting point is 00:46:32 It's about how pizza is triangles. Is there anything I like? Think about things you like, is it about pizza? No. That's another pea thing. Okay, is it about cars three? That's C not pea. So it starts with pea?
Starting point is 00:46:43 Yes. Is it penguins? Yeah, another pea thing. Oh, okay, so it's different. They think Porta bodies. No popsicle. It's another P O thing. Okay Oh My favorite try just tell you politics. No Portia de Rossi Okay, I uh uh uh poor shitarossi p-o-k-i-e p-o-k-i-e
Starting point is 00:47:08 m-o-n oh Pokemon, well you spelled Pokemon a little off but that's okay oh so I should have guessed, I should have guessed your thing about Pokemon considering Sam and his friends were playing hangman yesterday and the word was Jolteon Sammy's favorite Pokemon character hey guess Rose think of that yeah Jolteon, oh it was about Jolteon okay so they have it, I can read're gonna sing it that. Yeah, Joltion. Oh, it was about Joltion. Okay. Right.
Starting point is 00:47:25 So they have it, I can read mine. You can read mine. Proof, I can read mine. Proof, I can read mine. If I have a million guesses, and I know that it's about Joltion, then I can read mine. So he recruits, so Armstrong recruits Ted to join him.
Starting point is 00:47:36 But Ted, he says he's gonna join him, but he gets a message out to Tina. Ted and Tim have an argument. They don't want to work together anymore. And Tim sees Tavatha getting yelled at by the other kids at the holiday pageant rehearsal. Now here's the thing, and he finds that the mean kid whose name is Nathan, I have it in my ear.
Starting point is 00:47:50 Thank you. He's setting Tabitha up to fail. Tabitha has a song solo, but you can't sing that well. Oh, wait, no. So he's setting up to fail. The kid that's also in the bullies, who's like a present, who's playing the piano, is like, hey, can I sing? Can I sing? And it's like, hey, can I sing?
Starting point is 00:48:05 Can I sing? And Nathan's like, no, I want to see her fail. Yeah, he wants you to fail him from it. Now, I just love his hands. Now listeners from the last episode, where we're watching a movie, Space Jam,
Starting point is 00:48:16 know that I'm not a fan of scenes where a child is being yelled at, and the parent stands by and does nothing. In this case, I'm gonna give Tim a pass because he is in the body of a kid. And- And how would Tapeth know that he was, that he was her dad?
Starting point is 00:48:34 Exactly, but he kind of does step in to help her out, right? How? I don't remember. Yeah, at the house, he tells her about how to imagine music notes and to sing better. Well, that's a little later, but yeah, he tells her about how to imagine music notes and to sing better. Well, that's a little later, but yeah, he else out. So anyway, Tim talks his way into going to his own house
Starting point is 00:48:51 for dinner, where they think he is this kid, Marco's light speed. Ted finds Armstrong's secret research and developed love. No way his parents were there, and they think he's Tim, but then they're like, hey, Tim doesn't wear glasses. Yeah, the parents who are played by Jimmy Kimlin, Lisa Kudrow. Classic, right?
Starting point is 00:49:07 Can't superman. Supervision. Who does who plays honey and house broken. Thank you. Yes, house broken Fox Monday nights at nine of each to me on the writing staff. Thank you. Good work, Sammy. Good, good. Nice synergy.
Starting point is 00:49:18 There's a lot of you appreciate that. Sammy believes in a B C always be calling out things that are marginally related. What you're talking about at the moment. I think that's more than those. What? I think that's more than just ABC. Yeah, that's the joke because it's more letters. I'll tell you later.
Starting point is 00:49:37 Okay, anyway, so he, Sammy hasn't fully finished his trip to comedy college yet. I haven't even been to college. You what? I haven even been to college. You what? I haven't been to college. Exactly. Yeah, it turned out Sammy said for he got a job under the false pretense is that he had a college degree, but he ended up having to admit it. I did. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:55 Who do you say you went to college? No, where? Play along with the bit. Come on. More. Yes, sanding. Sammy's thinking.
Starting point is 00:50:03 There's all the, which you say you went to say you went to Dartmouth. What's that place? It's a college. I went to NYU. And why you? Oh, you said you went to NYU. That's a lot. Oh, yeah, yeah. That's sweet. My alma mater. Okay. My alma hitchcock. His fake Alma
Starting point is 00:50:24 modern house shoes. Oh, the other place I don't know license paid the other day. Oh, the other place thing of you was you see a like he saw I don't know license plate the other day. I base a lot of my Plastic way yeah, you know, just like college you say universe tell me where to go and then the car drives by and you go I'll go to Angelina school a technical college. I had no interest in BCR repair, but... All right, Carr, I'll do it. So Ted finds this laboratory that gets... Can you tell me when you word?
Starting point is 00:50:56 We can, a word search for you. Unicorn? Uh, UCLA stands for a unicorn California laugh academy. I love it. That's great. Yeah. So that's where it's going. I'm going to call it for unicorns.
Starting point is 00:51:10 Okay. He's going to major in yucky up. What was the whoopsie for this? Oh, that's fine. Here, don't play with that. It's cool. Yeah. I was talking with that earlier.
Starting point is 00:51:19 Yeah, please don't, please don't peel splinters out of the wood of the table. And there's one on the ground. Well, here, don't worry about it. So Armstrong, he has a lab that's secured by baby ninjas that chase Ted, but Armstrong saves him from the ninjas. It's never really clear are these ninjas that got turned into babies or they're babies
Starting point is 00:51:40 that were trained to be ninjas? Cause let me just break it to you guys. Babies do not have the coordination necessary to be ninjas. Fair. And just break it to you guys. Babies do not have the coordination necessary to be ninjas. And you'll see in this scene that, that he is teaching, that Armstrong is teaching babies how to like code. And he makes, and he, and they create apps.
Starting point is 00:51:58 And there seems to be this one app that they created that Ted loves. Yes, it's like a, oh yeah, it's called, what is it called? It's like a business game app, or a stock-tuning app. Yes, it's like a, oh yeah, it's called, what is it called? It's like a business game app or something. Yeah, it's stock crushed, I think. Yeah, and the one that he makes at the end, that he's still to change the world is called QD Snap.
Starting point is 00:52:13 Yep, and it's like an Instagram type app. So as with Space Jam and New Legacy, this is a movie for kids that has a fair amount to do with the new digital economy. And. But it does something that, but it does something that will reveal, I will say at the end. Yes.
Starting point is 00:52:30 So Tim learns that Tapatha is nervous about her pageant because she's just not as good as being creative as her dad, who she really looks up to that way. And he's touched by it. We learn Armstrong's origin story, his parents made him too smart. And now he wants to teach kids around the world to say no to their parents and start what he calls B-Day, the baby revolution against parents. Oh yeah, Daddy, remember it's like places all around the world. Yes. And like he's teaching the babies, he says like something about like parents and he and the baby say, now.
Starting point is 00:53:01 In their own languages, yeah. All around the world. Around the world. The same show. Around the world. Around the world, et cetera. The songs just that over and over again. It's still catchy song. So Tim learns that his family finds him to be unreliable, basically, but that Ted always looked up to him.
Starting point is 00:53:19 He forgot about that. They were best friends as kids. And he's still in his while he's undercover right and his parents. He's worried that his actual parents are going to figure out that he is a best friends as kids. And he's doing this while he's undercover right and his parents. He's worried that his actual parents are going to figure out that he is a shrunk down version of their son, which is interesting. But he is glasses and-
Starting point is 00:53:33 But he's glasses. But he's an interesting thing. I know that he does have glasses, so he does have a bit of a disguise. But I feel like it would take a couple more leaps for them to be to figure out what is actually happening. I think it's strange. It's strange that when he shrinks, I get, it's strange that he stools glasses because he didn't when he was younger.
Starting point is 00:53:52 But also he has, but he, if he had glasses it should have been like blue because that's the color that he has. It shouldn't have been black. Oh, sounds like Sammy found a goof that someone should put up on the IMDv page for this movie. Good work, goof finder. That's right. Go find a general. You're a fighter, yeah. Starting Vincent Price. So the, but it's true. If I was, so let's say I am an old man someday, got, you know, God willing. Yeah. And you have light blue glasses. And I have light blue glasses. And I go to my,
Starting point is 00:54:22 I go to Sammy's house for dinner. And there's a kid there who looks just like Sammy. My first instinct will be, hey, that's weird that that kid looks just like Sammy, not my son has been turned as the aged back to being a child. That's what I'm trying to say. Well, yes.
Starting point is 00:54:37 No way. So what if it looked exactly like Sammy? Because the thing is with Superman and Clark Kent, he wears glasses, but it's not like people would be like, oh, he looks like a kid of Superman. That's weird. Oh, he must be Superman. They look they're the same age They say maybe in the hands of horror my strobe m night Shymalon Maybe you would have quite a scary premise. Yeah Although now it makes me think that Superman when he's when he's Clark Kent
Starting point is 00:55:01 He should also brush just for me and touch a gray into his hair I can't look at it. Yes exactly, when he's Clark Kent, he should also brush just for men touch a gray and do his hair. I can't remember. Just to look a little bit. Yes, exactly. When he's having dinner at his house, uh, say, he put his in quotes. Uh, they, his parents say something. It's called like, was it called Tim time? And he should, he says no because he's pretending to be a kid, but he really has to know
Starting point is 00:55:23 because he is Tim. Well, he, this is something he would, they're saying is that since he's always late to things, they call it Tim time and that he say this behind his back. It's not something that he knew people said about him. The same way that nobody knows that we call you slimy-sami because you're always covered in slime. Now the whole world knows. Don't edit this out. Let me feel, hold on. Slime-free, you're right, it was just a joke. Yeah, it's true out. Let me feel hold on. Let me slime free. You're right. It was just a few.
Starting point is 00:55:47 He's not covered in slime. You learned about that stuff when you made your yucky up. I don't know. I don't know. I don't trust it because if his hand is covered in slime, it'll feel like his, he won't tell the difference whether it's slime or not slimy. You're saying that the natural state is slime that you can't. I don't know about that.
Starting point is 00:56:03 I mean, Dan, I really need you to back up on this one. Okay, I'll back you. I'm already out of the part. This is not covered in slime in the movie. This is part of the movie where he also. argument done. Thank you, Sam. Back to the movie.
Starting point is 00:56:17 Right after this, the young version of Tim, the disguise, light speed or whatever his name is. Marcos. Marcos speed. It's like helping Tabitha learn how to sing by playing a guitar and they go through like sort of a visualization of musical notes and... When he goes back... Well, singing catch Steven's song. Back to the first day at the school, the joke, a joke I don't get is the
Starting point is 00:56:49 main kid Nathan. He says, Mark, Mark goes slice, but he's not that fast. But he didn't, he answered the question wrong, but he was fat. They all raised their hands because they all knew and he didn't know, so he raised his hand just in case, because he thought he would blend in. But he got it wrong, but he still was fat. I think Nathan's saying that his thinking was not that fast, but also,
Starting point is 00:57:15 Nathan's not very good at being a bully, like being kind of a brainiac nerd, so I think maybe he's just not good at it. Also, you say he's a nerd. Later, he gets a chance to answer a question, but he gets it wrong. That's true. Even nerds get things wrong.
Starting point is 00:57:30 I'm horrible proof of that. I get things wrong all the time. Oh yeah, like colors. It's all you need. I just wanted to say that, Sammy making a reference to the fact that I have a form of color blinds that makes it hard for me to tell certain shades apart. So, that's pretty fun.
Starting point is 00:57:45 I don't wear this. You learn new things about your old friends every day. But all the time. So, then you're going to talk about this abstract music video that they find themselves. I know that this is a movie for children, and it's a movie about boss babies, so to get to annoyed at any inaccuracies is perhaps a fool's errand. But I did watch this thinking like, no matter what the music man tells you,
Starting point is 00:58:13 you can't learn how to do music via the think system. Like simply. Yeah, you can't actually tell somebody just feel the music and suddenly they're great at singing and playing guitar. Like if they don't have a good sense of tone, then that's not gonna disappear. I think it's strange.
Starting point is 00:58:29 They could have done it earlier, but they shouldn't know. His family peaks in the crack of the door that's open and his dad takes a picture. Because he's always taking pictures. But yeah, I agree. Dan, it is a weird thing to nitpick in a movie where Yes, he did using an app called cutie snap, which again sounds like an app that old guys would use taking pictures
Starting point is 00:58:54 Yep, no Cutie snap is later here Sammy say but he's I think he uses it there too So but Dan you're right that in a movie where in a movie where there's because that happens later in a movie where there's a Where there's a magic corporation run by babies it does seem a little weird to nitpick that you can't learn how to sing that easily but Maybe she's just tapping into her inborn talent. We nitpick the thing like I will accept the crazy thing because I know that that's that's what the movie is about But or the outlanders thing rather but But I don't think that like, but if you're familiar with something from your life and then the movie adds that on and does it weird,
Starting point is 00:59:32 it's kinda like, okay movie. This is, it's not the tiny pony breaking into a sail away isolated spot that bothers me. You're saying like Alfred Hitchock would say, you have to get them on Dane Details rights that the impossible details don't feel fake. Yeah, that makes sense.
Starting point is 00:59:56 I mean, it is, I mean, but let's, let's fill in the gap. Let's try it. Dan, you try to teach me to sing. As everyone knows, I can already sing beautifully, but I'll pretend I can't sing. Try to teach me to sing just by kind of feeling the music, okay? Okay, so, Elliot, think of your favorite song.
Starting point is 01:00:11 Okay. You have it. Yeah. Might as well be walking on the sun. Got it. Why? No, that's your favorite song. My favorite song.
Starting point is 01:00:19 My favorite song. Yeah. The notes is sort of just like big, bright colors on a staff. Okay, yeah, got it. Okay. Big, bright notes, and they're all wearing sunglasses like the guy from colors on a staff. Okay, yeah, got it. Okay, big bright notes. And they're all wearing sunglasses like the guy from Smash. Exactly.
Starting point is 01:00:30 Visualize yourself as the man from Smash. You got them doing it. We're in a big bowling shirt. Okay. Now, say your heart out. You might as well be walking on the sun. B-bootie, boopie, boopie, boopie. Does he sing that part?
Starting point is 01:00:45 Yes, I was. The sister works. Looks like boss baby family business, no. That's what it's talking about. Okay, so long story short, Tina gives Ted a letter that Tim wrote as a kid about how they'd always be together forever, and Tina in order to get them to spend more time together
Starting point is 01:01:04 pretends that BabyCourt is not going to do anything to stop Anderson's. They're gonna have to do it themselves working together as brothers. At Armstrong. What? Armstrong. Yeah, yeah, what'd I say? He said Anderson. Oh, I was thinking of P.Soup Anderson, the restaurant that you drive by and go on the highway.
Starting point is 01:01:21 But they only serve P.Soup. It's a random thing. Yeah. Never gone there. We've never gone there. A driven via. It's got a big windmill and we know they serve P of pea soup. That makes sense. Yeah. Never gone there. We've never gone there. Driven via it's got a big windmill and we know they sort of pea soup because it's in the name. It's huge.
Starting point is 01:01:30 Yeah. Maybe that's a misdirector echo. Maybe that's just to get you through the door and then when you're disappointed, they offer you all their other wares. In the gap between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Yeah. So you're saying you walk in there and you go, I'll have some of your famous pea soup, as mentioned in the name, the titular pea soup,
Starting point is 01:01:48 and they go, oh, I'm so sorry, we are all just a pea soup today. But perhaps I go to interest you in some of, and it's like some sort of a fancy scallop dish or a lot of fish and then more expensive. No, but if he says, what if he says, what if there's like different kinds of pea soup, and you're like, can I have some pea soup? And he's like, different kinds of pea soup? And you're like, can I have some pea soup? And he's like, what kind of pea soup?
Starting point is 01:02:09 What kind of pea soup? And you say, I want pea soup. And he says, and then he says, what kind? And then he says, is he gonna give me the options or do I have to guess? He gives you the options and you're like, and then he's like, pea soup, pea soup with croutons pea soup
Starting point is 01:02:27 with peas. So pea soup with pea soup with carrots would be pea soup with whole peas to thrown into. Yeah it's like a crunchy peanut butter. So really it's just so really it's just so really the only pea soup is is a pea soup with peas. It, the only flake, so regular, so it's really just regular flavored broth. Okay. But they call it pea soup. Okay. But it's really only pea soup with the pea soup with peas.
Starting point is 01:02:57 Oh, I see. So if you don't get it with peas, it's not pea soup. Yeah. Okay. So there's pea soup with carrots, pea soup with celery. Okay. Speaking of soup, what's soup for you you are sipping on there, Stu. Oh, what's that you got there, Stu?
Starting point is 01:03:09 It's a big container, a piece of a piece of soup with croutons, is that still technically, a piece of a piece of a Sammy. What am I drinking right now? It looks like you're drinking Jello. It does look like I'm drinking Jello because that's actually what I'm drinking. I took some Jello.
Starting point is 01:03:27 I made it into a liquid again. Portable to vodka on it. And I'm just trying to get through this podcast. You know, that's the thing. That's a thing. That's a thing. There's a shock to look on this face. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:38 And that was another regular segment. Soup stew. That's where stew tells us what soup we's drinking right now. So back to the movie movie they have to stop Armstrong at the pageant this big winter pageant we've been hearing about before the kid formula wears off and then they've and they find and baby Tina tells them that that there's a main switch that can like turn the power off so so it can like stop the hypnotizing. And there's a miss, when she's singing,
Starting point is 01:04:09 she keeps her eyes closed, but she's, if she keeps them open, she'll notice that they're all getting hypnotized. Well, we haven't even talked about the hypnosis yet. So, okay, every page time. But then they, I'm talking more about the main switch. Wait, wait, we're going to. So the main switch will shut up.
Starting point is 01:04:22 I want to tell them about the main switch. Okay, when we get to the main switch, you can tell them about it. You're really taking it with the switch, huh? I know you're excited about this switch and how main it is. Because, wait, wait, so everyone is at the pageant and Armstrong reveals to Ted that today is B day
Starting point is 01:04:37 and his app, QD Snaps, is actually a hypnosis app. And once you take a picture with it, it hypnotizes the parents. Uh-oh, and he tries to shut off the main switch right oh yeah they they go back um and they go back to the back of the stage and the backstage yeah backstage and uh Tina tells them that the baby Tina tells them that there is a means which that can turn the power off. And they they split. And they're fine. Well, Tim is supposed to turn it off, but he's like, Oh, no,
Starting point is 01:05:11 it's Tabitha's turn to sing. I can't miss that. And Ted, he sneaks backstage by way of pretending to be Jesus in the manger. And then Tim, it's your God. It is. Jesus play. It's like a Jesus play that's on.
Starting point is 01:05:24 Tabitha is an angel that's who's who's singing and there's a this doll that's pretending to be Jesus in the cradle I mean I know the doll is a prop. It's a prop that's representing the baby Jesus It's ironic because they've got a lot of babies at the school What is it in there? What is real? And Ted and Ted throws off the babies. He throws the baby out. And how he gets this gold raps. And he puts it around himself.
Starting point is 01:05:56 And then instantly, like a second later, he takes them off and runs back to stage. So there's no. He does a little tap dance. He does for that. Yeah, but it would have made more. It would have been more certitious if he did not back to stage. So there's no. He does a little tap dance. Jesus for that. Yeah, but it would have made more. It would have been more certitious if he did not get on stage. Do it, maybe come to start the show for a moment and then run backstage. I'm on Tim's side because because when they flip the switch, they get trapped by the, by the ninja babies.
Starting point is 01:06:22 Yeah. And Armstrong comes in and reveals that it's just like a paper, it's just like paper that says main on it, but he throws the paper off and it says trap underneath. Yeah, so he actually it was a trap the whole time and Armstrong has now trapped Ted and Tim. And they're still arguing with each other. Uh-oh, they get put in the box where the enu song plays and it starts flooding. That's right. We're going to see a child and a baby drowned to death in this movie. If Armstrong's plan comes up, thank you. Yes, the Sailor-Y song. Can I come up with a- Sammy's found his- it's Sammy's discovered his- I'm blue and I still hurt- yes?
Starting point is 01:07:00 So while this is going on, Tabitha is singing her solo, and one of my favorite things is going on, she's scanning the audience for her dad, and I swear there must be a guy who runs lights at these events who's like, put spotlights on all the empty seats so kids can see when they're absent fathers or not there. Like, you know, that's a thing that people are like, this is gonna be hilarious. It all the seats are black, and it's like, and it's like, that people are like, this is gonna be hilarious. It also seats our black and it's like,
Starting point is 01:07:25 and it's like, they're all black, but like, you don't even see, when Tabitha opens her eyes and her song is done, she's like looking into the crowd to see her parents like clapping. But she notices the crowd is all black. It's all black. It's all dark.
Starting point is 01:07:40 They should be the little purple dots for the hypnosis eyes. Yes, very true because they're all using they're all using cutie she sings beautifully like an angel like the angel She is perched on top of a Christmas tree not a safe place for a kid to be standing the Christmas tree looks to be about 50 feet tall Christmas song it's just like a weird like friendship song It's a song about working together and being together in United We stan the divided will fall in the native It's a song about working together and being together. And United, we stand, divided, we'll fall in the night and we'll stand on the whole night.
Starting point is 01:08:05 At least, yeah, then she puts a mega hat on. And she's like, yeah, well, the right people need to stay united. They're like, whoa, boss, baby. At least there's a very thin ladder. Yeah, there's a very thin ladder, true. Good point. At least there's an incredibly narrow, dangerous ladder.
Starting point is 01:08:18 And it's like, she gets sad at the end of the song. So she climbed down. So she would clap. It seems like in the movie, she would only climb. So she would climb, it seems like in the movie she would only climb down, because she said, but she would normally do that. Yeah, she would have to climb down. It was, she doesn't live on top of that.
Starting point is 01:08:31 And this is the moment in the movie that I had to clean my glasses and then I realized with horror that Audrey would think I was crying at this song. That is cool. And she did it. Yeah. And suddenly, this isn't real, but what if she was standing on there suddenly and she was staying on top of there, suddenly a house fell from the sky.
Starting point is 01:08:54 What if that happened? What if that did happen? It's crazy because that would be your house if she lived on top of there. That's a good point. She lived there, she lived there. She wouldn't need a house. She wouldn't need a house. She would need a house. Yeah, and she would, if she had a house, I mean, they could lift up her house for the song there.
Starting point is 01:09:12 And then, and then when her song was done, they would just drop the house on her. And when the walls could crush her, actually. Oh, that would be terrible. Why would that happen? And then, and then, and then, and, and only like a circle of it survived because it's very, it's a very small circle that atop, so it just like crumbles down. Okay, interesting. The rest would fall to the ground because the tree can only hold up so much. Okay, well that's the more the movie ends.
Starting point is 01:09:37 No, it can't just hold up, it's very small. So like, it was supported by the other half, but it couldn't the the middle of it couldn't hand the whole I think you're gonna To draw me a diagram. Yeah very fresh. I'm right over you Franklin Lloyd Wright The falling water Yeah, just I think you would say just go me Frank. Yeah, Frank Lloyd right Whatever I don't care. He's not going to be listening to this. No, he's not. That's very true. No, no. So, uh, so all the adults are hypnotized. It's not clear if Armstrong, his real name is armed, if his first name is Armstrong or last name, no, he
Starting point is 01:10:20 had to be, his name's like Irwin Armstrong or something. Not. I think they just call Armstrong. Okay. I mean, according to Wikipedia, his name's like Irwin Armstrong or something. Not Irwin. I think they just call him Armstrong. That's the Armstrong. I mean according to Wikipedia, his name is Dr. Irwin Armstrong. Oh, wow. You got roasted, Sammy. Oh, wow, Sammy did it. You messed with the best.
Starting point is 01:10:35 Samadin crosses T's and does his eyes. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Gotta check it, check it before your wreck it, Sammy. Anyway, I don't feel bad. It's okay. It's fine. Oh, okay, great. So the adults are all hypnotized.
Starting point is 01:10:47 Tim and Ted are in the box. Luckily, Ted with his finished her song, but she's crushed because her dad is not there. As Stuart mentions, there's a spotlight as the cast on the one empty seat where her dad should be. And then it flashes to the front of the school where, oh, yeah, back to the box back to the box to him we can blame himself and says
Starting point is 01:11:08 no you're great and i'm lonely without a family and they apologize to each other and then they and then they fall underwater and then is does ten this ten whistle underwater ten whistles underwater i think and and precious comes and breaks all so it's like glass that separates the colors and for like the first three there's like trams that go and
Starting point is 01:11:32 basically precious runs through them and breaks all the glass. Yeah precious burst through the front of the school and kicks them out of the box saving their lives. Meanwhile Armstrong has declared its B day he's danced to push it on stage as his true self, a little bald baby, not in his adult- And the parents are all following him because they're hypnotized. Yes, so he demands they give a standing ovation to Tabitha. Tina reveals the truth about baby corded Tabitha and they plan to go overheat the school's servers, which are inside the giant acorn in the
Starting point is 01:12:02 atrium. Of course. And then they have a big fight they have a big fright fight uh that's where and tina is in Armstrong's other suit asena has taken over Armstrong's other robot body and they are and they they say they're gonna meet at the at the acorn so tim and Ted go over to the acorn too because they have to meet there. And then but Armstrong's at the bottom and uses these lollipops. He licks them and then throws them at them. Licks them and sticks them. Yeah. Tim and Ted are almost entirely useless in the climax of this movie as it becomes a
Starting point is 01:12:37 Tina Tabitha team up a TTT up. That's right. And then they go and then it go and then he climbs up and it's straight because to open the acorn they need the hand from the suit. Well here's okay, this is something I brought up with same way of watching it. To get into the acorn, the suit, where the controls are, the control all of Armstrong's evil plot, there's a hand print identification. They need the hand from the suit. They need the hand from the suit.
Starting point is 01:13:03 And they're both right to suit and Tabitha is over there Closer to the door right in front of her is the door and Tina pops off on the hands Throw tosses it over to Tabitha Tabitha puts it on and then the door opens So wouldn't if you had a handprint analyzer, wouldn't you want to use your real hand print that nobody else has rather than a robot hand print that you have a spare version of? So when you're a mecca pilot, Elliot, is that it's tough to know where the pilot ends
Starting point is 01:13:34 in the mecca. Also, everyone, I have a good point. Because man and machine meld together. I have a good point. I have a good point. I have a good point, daddy. I like it. I have a good point.
Starting point is 01:13:44 When would he go the only time that? I didn't know I could do that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that.
Starting point is 01:13:52 I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that.
Starting point is 01:14:00 I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'm glad you were able to declare that. I'mch is an extension of yourself. Not to evangelize Evangelion, but you know. And they go and they go into there and tap us as keeps about turning it off, but then Armstrong is like crushing the control panel. Yeah, and Armstrong has so many one-liners at this point and so many puns and yeah, it's just and finally they're able to destroy that time is up. The formula
Starting point is 01:14:28 starts wearing off of Tim and Ted. They start de aging. They start aging again. Tina and Tabitha, they finally destroyed the servers by Ted's baby suit. It like get it stays at size. Ted's. Tim's Because Ted is the blonde baby. Yeah, I know, I'm talking about Ted. Oh, his head stays the same size. Ted stays the same size as Ted gets bigger and it's really turning on him, but Tim's, he has to be the snowflake in it because.
Starting point is 01:15:00 That's how he's snuck into the pageant. But his costume grows with him, right? Yeah, when he grows, the costume, it grows as he grows. So that's another thing for the good, Sammy's discovered another goof that should go on the IMDv page that Tim's clothes change shape with him as the ages whereas Ted's are broke, rip, and don't fit.
Starting point is 01:15:20 So why would, it just doesn't make sense, right? Why, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, fit. So why would it just doesn't make sense right? Why it it put on the goofs. The other goof I had. The other goof was glasses. Don't remember. It was glasses. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 01:15:33 Why does he have glasses as a kid when he didn't wear glasses? No, no, why does he have light blue glasses as a grown up when he changes into a kid he has black glasses. I don't know. And he would wear glasses. He don't know. I see a fact of the serum. And he would wear glasses. He would probably have the light blue ones. Yeah, he would think so.
Starting point is 01:15:49 And the serum, the serum. All glasses begin life as black glasses, and they only become light blue over time. And the age and become light blue glasses, I see. It's sun bleaching. It's a pretty complex topic. It's the opposite for my dad. He used to wear light blue glasses,
Starting point is 01:16:04 and now he wears black. Yeah, because my glasses are getting younger. Benjamin Buttoning. Benjamin Buttoning, I think that's a good question. Yeah, I got them from Warby Benjamin Button. So make a long story, even slightly shorter. To have with Antina, they managed to destroy the computer server by, you guessed it, mixing Mentos with Soda and filling the thing with bubbles. I think S.
Starting point is 01:16:25 No, well, Armstrong is like, he's like so happy, celebrating and he pours a big glass of, what is it, soda? Yeah, just a soda popper, so I'm gonna. Yeah, and he pours it and there's all this, oh yeah, and well, during the, well, skip to before, he's pouring the soda. Skip to before? Yeah, go, go skip to before he's putting the soda. Yeah go
Starting point is 01:16:47 Go back to before rewind to before he had he's doing the soda. Yeah, they keep punching each other with the robot one Tina is the one that Tina's in the top part it like the cover it fell off and Armstrong's the bottom fell off. So Tina's punching the bottom and Candy just keeps falling out of it. And then... And a tube of Mentos falls out. Yeah, and go back to when he's pouring the soda. He's pouring the soda.
Starting point is 01:17:18 They take some of the Mentos from the ground and put it and pour them into the soda so it explodes everywhere. Yes, just like we've seen in all those videos. Again, this is before you were born, Sammy. That's why they put it in this movie because it's a reference to a thing from before you were born. The target audience that when you put Mentos into soda, it gets all foamy. So they did it. You're getting even more still aware of that. I don't know that there's a... They don't teach it in schools anymore i don't think they think the critical race theory they kept your arms strong
Starting point is 01:17:49 they kept your arms strong uh... they capture up they capture arms strong the baby and uh... suit like my my my my joke about the as my character of the parent who's mad that they're teaching race theory and not meant to listen to the daddy i want to tell them about about the part had the and sure yeah okay well let's well we get to that part will tell you not mentors in school anymore. Daddy, daddy, I want to tell them about the part at the end. Sure, yeah, do it. Okay, well, we'll get to that part.
Starting point is 01:18:08 We'll tell them, okay. Tim and Ted returned to his normal age just in time to catch Tabatha who was falling from the tree. Yeah, yeah. And they're reconciled. Armstrong is lonely seeing this family reunited. The adults are all unbrainwashed and sort of plotting. I don't think they know what's going on,
Starting point is 01:18:23 but for some reason they know to applaud that something has happened. Tina reveals that her real mission from Baby Core was to get Ted and Tim back together and stopping Dr. Armstrong from overthrowing the human grown-up world was just a bonus. We go back to their home for Christmas, they're a big family. Ted gives Tim a big statue of Tim
Starting point is 01:18:42 holding a mug that says, World's Greatest Dad. And there's a letter that says, is a letter that's like, you're the best, I love you. I'm sorry that I couldn't be there, but then Tim gets hit by a snowball and it turns out it's Ted and he is here. It was a trick.
Starting point is 01:18:58 And how could he have delivered those presents, not being there? Well, he might have hired like a taskwriter. So it was, I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, or maybe also, but some are also like raised or knocks on the door. Well, yeah, it's a tell in the packages with it. I mean, often we get a knock on the door and then I'll go there and there's nobody there.
Starting point is 01:19:14 I mean, magically, or CSF produce has been delivered. But then you see someone exit the gate. Yes, that's true. So they play like brothers in the snow and the whole family goes out. And it seems that Carol learns Tina's secret. Who's Carol? Carol is Tim's true. So they play like brothers in the snow and the whole family goes out and it seems that Carol learns Tina's secret. This is Carol. Carol is Tim's wife.
Starting point is 01:19:28 Okay. Played by your favorite, Eva Longoria. And they're all a happy family. And that's when we get the final little coda, what happens when they're all a happy family? At the, so like, what does Tina say? No, no, she's like, Tim's like, well, that's the whole story. And Tina's like, well, there's one more thing. And it goes to Armstrong returning to his own house and his parents are so happy.
Starting point is 01:19:52 Yes, as I would be, Sammy, if you ran away and then came back, I would be so happy. Don't run away though, just come back. Nice. I'm happier with you just staying here, okay? That's a lesson. That's a lesson, kids. That's a lesson, kids.
Starting point is 01:20:04 All the kids listening from the flop house. What's the lesson Sammy? Don't run away. That is a good lesson. Thank you Guys, you know that Ray Davies has a songwriting credit for push it because the quote spoil you really got me going You got me so you don't know Every flop house episode there's gonna be a safety rule There's gonna be a rule that you should yeah that you should never that you should never do okay That's should is that be our new thing we will have Sammy's So that knowing is half the battle yeah, uh, did you know Ray wise actually has a writing credit on
Starting point is 01:20:41 On what a man. Oh, interesting. Wow. Yeah. Never got away. But that's because he and Salt and Pepper were, they were writing partners for a long time. You mean like the food, salt and pepper? No, no, the hip hop group. Oh, I mean, the name is similar, though, Ellen.
Starting point is 01:20:57 It's very similar. Maybe it is the food. Maybe it is the food. You know what? You're right. Maybe it's just two of our favorite spice seasonings are just wrapping away about what a food, you know what, you're right. Maybe it's just two of our favorite spice seasonings are just wrapping away about what a man, you know. Ray Wise.
Starting point is 01:21:10 And Ray Wise was the man they're wrapping about. Yeah. This is the part of the show where we do our final judgments about the movie. Would you want to have the first word or the last word? Oh, and then we have to recommend including the movies. Well, I think you're going to leave the show
Starting point is 01:21:23 before we get to the recommendations. Why? Because we have other stuff to do. But, uh, same, it's still here. I could have seen. I could always close my ears. No, you can't close your ears. Sit down, sit down. So, the, no.
Starting point is 01:21:35 So, here the category is, is it a good bad movie, a bad bad movie, or a movie you kind of liked? A movie I kind of liked. What did you like about it? It was funny. It was funny. You were really enjoying watching it. You were laughing a lot. You kept saying things like this is the greatest and I love this movie. We're watching it. So I think I'll step in here and say I had a much more enjoyable experience, I think, watching it with Sammy than I would have had watching it by myself. Watching it by myself,
Starting point is 01:22:01 I think I would have found it a little too hyperactive and by the end of it, they're just throwing jokes out, willy-nilly, you know, and that was really getting on my nerves. But seeing how much Sammy was enjoying it, I was like, hey, you know what? I liked a lot of stuff when I was a kid that my parents didn't like. So it was okay. So I'm going to call it a movie that I didn't necessarily kind of like, but I think kids are going to like it.
Starting point is 01:22:21 Guys, you watched it without a child with you, I assume. What was your experience? I mean, the only child was me, and I kinda liked it. I mean, the hyperactivity was what I liked about it. I didn't like the beginning so much where it was sort of, I don't know, it felt so tied into this boss baby world
Starting point is 01:22:43 that I didn't know anything felt so tied into this boss baby world that I didn't know anything about the BBC you got to the weird school like the movie got a lot stranger than I expected and some of the stuff actually Made me laugh even though you know, I it's I made you cry at one point Yeah, I know that was it's a dirty lie It's the longest dream works animated animated movie i saw this written somewhere i confirmed it just now
Starting point is 01:23:10 uh... and that is a mistake it is too long i would have worked too long about twenty-minute shorter but uh... it was okay as a i agree that it's a good for kids it's for kids like a little bit i think it should have been longer because then I could have stayed up longer Yeah, cuz we watched after your brother went to bed right? I only got to watch like I you got to watch like an hour and 20 minutes The on Friday night and then set and then yesterday night I only got to watch the last 20 minutes now Here's the thing that you didn't get to stay up as late as you did when you watched that met Stodgers game Did you enjoy the met Stodgers game or boss baby family business more? I like that Met Stodgers game. Did you enjoy the Met Stodgers game or Boss Baby Family Business more?
Starting point is 01:23:45 I like the Met Stodgers game more. Okay, so there you have it. Put it on the poster. Is that anything could happen? For the Met Stodgers game. But this, the movie is a movie. I mean, and they couldn't like change it for like a movie.
Starting point is 01:23:56 That's true. The movie can't go into extra endings, that's true. You're still limited within the rules of baseball and real life, though. Yeah, whereas the Boss Baby Family Business is the only limits that you can imagine. I was also happy with the ending of baseball and real life, though. Yeah, whereas the boss baby family business is the only limits the human imagination. I was also happy with the ending of it. Okay, that's good.
Starting point is 01:24:10 You like the ending? Yeah, I'm the baseball game. Oh, the baseball game. Oh, yes. Yeah, because you like that the Dodgers beat the mess. Yeah. Yeah. So the-
Starting point is 01:24:19 You can see. Yep, he's wearing his Dodgers shirt. Oh man. So we're mad at it. Yeah, this is LA fan. So, so there you have it, you put on the poster. I wish it was longer. Sammy Kaelin, the flop house, don't,
Starting point is 01:24:30 but you then you put dot, dot, dot, and leave out the part. I like the baseball game more. Yeah. Yeah. So Stu, what do you think? Okay, let's see. Well, I like that there's this weird message in the holiday pageant or whatever show about the parent's generation
Starting point is 01:24:48 destroying the world because that's true. So that's great. And babies. The parent generation destroying the world. That was a thing. No, arms don't want to destroy the parents. Arms don't destroy the parents, but part of his reasoning is because parents have done such a bad job
Starting point is 01:25:01 of running the world. Yeah. But you have to admit it's probably true. I mean, that's the thing. They talk about baby core. The only thing if they don't give enough candy in TV. They don't give enough candy in TV. Those are your main complaints.
Starting point is 01:25:11 Yep. OK. Now, baby core is supposed to look out for threats to babies all over the world. And obviously, the biggest threat is climate change, because they're not going to have a world to inherit. So I think they're kind of dropping the ball clearly. But by the time they inherit that world, they're not going to have a world to inherit. So I think they're kind of dropping the ball clearly. But by the time they inherit that world, they're not babies anymore.
Starting point is 01:25:27 Baby Core has a very narrow special interest group. Oh, okay, that's interesting. Yeah, that makes sense. Yeah. So I also kind of like the moment when Alec Baldwin as a baby is talking to his baby brother, who isn't a baby, but he's a boy. And he's like being a dad is such a hard job.
Starting point is 01:25:47 You should get paid for it. And I'm like, that's great. I love sharing that message that like being like, the toughest job is being a dad, that you have to babysit your kids and shit like that. Like every now and then you've got to watch them. Well, yeah, the idea of like, my dad does get paid, my dad does get paid and he is a dad.
Starting point is 01:26:03 But I don't get paid for it. I don't get paid for being a dad. Yes, I get paid for my other. Yeah, no one gets, well, the only people who get paid my dad does get paid and he is a dad, but I don't get paid for paid for being a yes, I get paid for my other yeah, no one gets well the only people get paid for being dads are like babysitters. You hire me. Sometimes people tend to be your dad because your boss is come your boss is coming over for dinner and you want to impress him so you hire someone to pretend to be your dad and pretend like a no-boss scientist. And while I get occasionally on Instagram my DMs Is. I get requests to be a dad. If you're a dad, I'm still as the only fan.
Starting point is 01:26:28 He does get paid to be a daddy. Yeah. If his boss says he's coming over and if he's a good dad, then his boss is going to pay him, but he isn't a good dad. So he hires someone else. So, so, but that someone, but it's not what his plan is.
Starting point is 01:26:47 Sure, yeah. If someone else gets paid, the other person gets paid, not yet. Is this a story you made up? Or is this a thing you saw somewhere? I made this up. Okay, I mean, it's not a story. No, I mean, you had me going.
Starting point is 01:26:58 And also, there's a very hot horse, very little hot horse in it, big fan. What's her aunt? Let's go on. So yeah, precious. So what is, I guess, yeah, it's great. Best movie ever. Okay, so Stuart, you're the best movie ever.
Starting point is 01:27:17 So there you have it. That's the official tallies for the boss baby, family business. I want to thank ours. No. The boss baby, Colin, the family business. You already said that. Oh want to thank ours. The boss baby Colin the family business. Oh, the boss baby. The Colin family business. The boss baby family the business. Okay. Wow. Sammy's tired of that. If you want is what he said. Yeah. So Sammy, I want to thank you so much
Starting point is 01:27:41 for joining us and sharing your thoughts on the movie. It was a very special experience. I'm so glad I got to share the podcast with you and got to share the movie with you and I love you. I'm safe for the other 20 minutes. It's going to be more than 20 minutes. Let me tell you. You always say that it's two hours. Yeah, but it's not always two hours. But Sammy, I think it's time for you to go
Starting point is 01:28:00 so that we can talk about some grown-up stuff. But what? Do you have any, I can't tell you. Do you have any other fun? Do you have any other, do you have any other, do you have any other final messages you want to tell the audience before you go? He's thinking, he's thinking. If he comes out with blah, blah, booey.
Starting point is 01:28:16 This is the, I hope not. Sammy, what are you going to say? What's your final message? My answer for the question in the beginning that I would say, I thought I would answer at the part that I'm going out Okay, and is maybe
Starting point is 01:28:30 Okay, great Hang it up. Oh, man. Okay. Thank you so much Sammy. Oh, man. Bye. You say I was waving goodbye to dance to okay See you Sammy. Can you close the door on the way you're out? You're full you were great Yeah, you're fantastic. Yeah, you're great Sammy. Can you close the door on the way you're out? That's fearful. You were great. Yeah, you were fantastic. Yeah, you're great, buddy. I get out of here. Now get going, kid. Man, I gotta say that having Sammy around really kept me from getting too raw and the boss baby episode. Tell me about it. Yeah, tell me about it.
Starting point is 01:29:01 Hey, I think I only swore like once or twice. I'm not barely talked about that horse. I think it was better for all of us that that he was here so that of all the movies, boss, baby, it was not the moment we decided to get raw and let loose. But back to the future shit is wild. Yeah, let's talk about that from in his way. There were there were there was every scene between Tim and his daughter type that was uncomfortable for exactly that reason. Yeah, that's good. It's like, I know how these stories that reason. If only because it's like, I know how these stories often go.
Starting point is 01:29:27 I do not want it to go in that direction. And think about how messed up it will be for her when she realizes that she had a crush on a guy who turned out to be her dad, de-aged by a magic formula from Baby Core. Yeah, and I just want to talk about one other thing about the movie real quick. And generally, the animation style was pretty straightforward,
Starting point is 01:29:47 dream works, and I wasn't kind of crazy about it. But I did like some of the animation touches when Tim's character is having his like fantasies, whereas a little bit like the animation was a little flatter, a little more 2D, almost like old school painted backgrounds. I mean, I did really like seeing that, even though it was a CGI movie,
Starting point is 01:30:05 it did not look photorealistic and they were doing goofy, you know, squash and stretch and like silly cartoon stuff. They were not letting it. They were not. They didn't seem to be really worried about making sure the snow looked like real snow at the expense of characters doing silly as anything. Yes. You know, so there you have it.
Starting point is 01:30:24 The boss, baby. Number one pick of the year. What a pain in the anything. Yes. So there you have it, the boss baby, number one pick of the year. What a pain in the face. Yeah. Mm-hmm. It shows you how surprisingly I enjoy the movie that I could get over the facts
Starting point is 01:30:34 that I was essentially watching Baby Donald Trump running around being smug and full of himself. And eventually I was like, you know what, I don't hate this baby. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Are you feeling elevated levels of anxiety?

That's right, just like we've done several times before, even though I'm talking about it as if it's a new thing that nobody's ever heard of before. The flop house is going to be doing a new live remote show on Saturday, September 25th at 9 PM Eastern, 6 PM Pacific.
Starting point is 01:37:17 If you live in a different time zone, please do the math as to when that is for you. I can't do all the time zones. I just don't know them. So we'll be doing it do all the time zones. I just don't know them. So we'll be doing it in all new live show. We're going to be talking about the movie Super Mario Brothers or Super Mario Brothers as people who are not from New Jersey insist on making me pronounce it. That's right. The amazing story of the Mario and Luigi Mario Brothers played by Bob
Starting point is 01:37:41 of Huskins and what John Lake was on, going underground to stop Dennis Hopper from doing dinosaur stuff. We're gonna be talking about, it's the 28th anniversary of the release of Mario Brothers. And so we are going to be celebrating it and talking about it. There's also gonna be all new presentations
Starting point is 01:37:58 before the show. You've seen these shows before, and you know we do these hilarious PowerPoint presentations. We're gonna be doing those before the show. It's gonna be an all new show. I believe we're gonna have a new exclusive shirt designs possibly to sell during the show. And buying a ticket gets you one week of access
Starting point is 01:38:14 to the recording that's archived afterwards. So even if you can't make it on the night of September 25th, you can still get that ticket and watch it at your leisure in the seven days after. So that's the Flop House Live talking to Super Mario Brothers for the 28th anniversary of that historic film, Saturday, September 25th, 9 PM Eastern, 6 PM Pacific. You're gonna wanna go to simpleticks.com,
Starting point is 01:38:40 to buy the tickets. The, honestly, the easiest way to do it is just Google simple ticks and flop house. But I believe there's also a link at the Flop House website, which is what the Flop House podcast.com. Yeah. I think it's just Flop House podcast.com. I can't wait. It's going to be fun. I love doing those shows with you guys. And I love taking questions from the audience. And I love getting to see what fucking dungeon LA it's recording from, it's great.
Starting point is 01:39:08 It's always my garage, it's just my garage. It looks like I'm trying to get a life. It's easy, like I feel like you have the lights on a dimmer to get more scary as the recording goes on. Yeah, I do have that, because it turns into it, it does turn into a torture palace eventually. But yet we're gonna go, you'll see us in front of your face, we're gonna be answering questions live
Starting point is 01:39:29 from the audience, probably over Twitter again, but we'll see how we do it. And who knows? And who knows, it's just gonna be, it's just gonna be really fun. So that's September 25th, the Flop House Live, SMB, that's Super Mario Brothers, and I'm gonna tell you what that stands for.
Starting point is 01:39:43 9 PM Eastern, 6 PM Pacific, just go to simpleticks.com to get the tickets or $10 each. You can pay more if you want to, but you don't have to pay more if you don't want to. Come and join us. It's going to be fun. Well, let's keep this train rolling and answer some letters from listeners. Listeners like you, this first letter is from Adrian. Last name with held who writes. I believe I believe the name is Adrian. Last name with. Dear peaches, my three year old son has noticed his grandfather's old Marvel lunch box that we have on a shelf in our living room. He is now obsessed with Spider-Man, Iron
Starting point is 01:40:26 Man, the Hulk, and the Fantastic Four. He keeps asking, why is that big guy made of rocks? And why is the man turning green? How do I answer these questions? Any recommendations for print or video content that is at least somewhat appropriate for his age? I know this question is pretty targeted at elite since he is both a dad and a Marvel zombie, but would love any and all input. Thanks for the laughs you've gotten through the lowest points of my life over the last 10 years. I cannot express my appreciation enough.
Starting point is 01:40:55 Love, Adrian, last name withheld. Well, thank you for the nice words. We're glad we could be there for you, right guys? Yeah, yeah, yeah. And this is unwittingly. Why didn't you just do the jack-off motion? This is just a very, you know, parenting centered question for a parenting. Yeah, parenting centered episode. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:41:23 Well, we with this week, we are also sponsored by the American Fertility Increasing Institute. Did you know the American population is dropping? If it gets too far down, alien nations from other planets will be able to come in and take our stuff, I guess. We need more Americans. Go out and have babies today. But not boss babies.
Starting point is 01:41:39 They're creepy and a little smug. Have worker babies. So, or, or babe employees, they're called. So I found so I mean it's very similar situation. I have a three year old son, not the one you heard earlier. He's seven and a half, but his younger brother is also very into Marvel stuff. He's especially into Spider-Man right now, although his understanding of who Spider-Man is is very skewed because he has not seen too much stuff. He's actually been enjoying lately the new Disney show Spidey and his amazing friends,
Starting point is 01:42:10 which is about Spider-Man, the two Spider-Man, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, and also Ghost Spider, Wednesday C, having very kind of low-key adventures, not adventures with low-key, the, you know, Thor Bad Guy. But the kind of adventures were like they got to save cats from trees or like, Rhino is just being a jerk at a carnival or something like that. It's Spider-Man without all the punching and kicking in the face that you get
Starting point is 01:42:37 the actual Spider-Man comics. And he's really been enjoying that. He insists on he being Peter Parker Spider-Man and me being Miles Morales, who on the show is called Spin. And so, out of note, he'll just suddenly be like, Spin, what's going on over there? And I have to be like, it's the green goblin, let's go stop him. So, he's been doing that. The other thing he likes is there's a book Marvel put out a little while ago,
Starting point is 01:42:58 with comic strips mostly by Christy Aruso called Mini marvels. And that book, it's like a kid versions of the Marvel characters for the most part. There are a few comic strips in it where the jokes are a little too grown up for a three year old, but I, with some judicious looking at the next panel ahead and then editing the words, he's been able to enjoy a lot of those books, and it's a good entryway for me to explain to him who these characters are. And if those don't do it for you, little golden books has a bunch of Marvel books that are literally just naming the characters
Starting point is 01:43:34 and telling you what they do. There's no actual stories. It's just like the Avengers. Kind of, yeah, it's like that's the book, but about like the Avengers. And so those are all ways to get characters, get kids into those characters and explain who they are without the stuff about them actually fighting and hitting. Because I really, that's the one thing that I'm trying to keep my kids away from as long
Starting point is 01:43:55 as possible, is the aspect of superheroes that involves extreme violence, which is hard to do. Yeah, it is. Probably solving involves a lot of punching. Yes, exactly. very much so. That's not the lesson I want them to learn. So those are some examples that I would recommend. And if anyone has any other ideas, write in and tell me, and I'll be happy to share them,
Starting point is 01:44:16 I guess I'm spreading the word of Marvel Comics for kids now. I guess I'm part of their promotional department, I understand it, but it happened. This second and final letter is from Danny Lasting with Held, uh, Hey Floppers, your recent conversation in the jujitsu episode about actors who have built in an unexpectedly large portfolio of flop house classics got me thinking. Are there some incredibly prolific flop mixtures out there we've never heard of? In order to find these unsung heroes of Flopdom, I wrote a script to scrape the IMDB page of each movie featured on the mainline Flophouse episodes, extracted the full credit cast and crew list, and crunched the numbers.
Starting point is 01:44:59 I'm using a scraper for good. One look finally realizes one one look reveals that this list is dominated by sound and VVFX professionals. The number one flopper by far is Peter Rother in orchestra orchestra contractor, not conductor contractor. I'm not sure what that is, but I. That's someone that's someone you hired to kill orchestras. Yeah, with 69 flop credits to his name From you Stewart laughing at the number 69 for from more than 1,000 credits overall He has been involved with 20% of all the movies ever discussed on the flop house wow Yeah, that's amazing as far as can tell, the first person on the list
Starting point is 01:45:45 who is acting listed as their main job is of course, Nick Cage ranked 59th with 22 flop credits. One of them is for producing 1,000 words with Eddie Murphy. The next person I found on the list. Wait, Nick, this cage produced 1,000 words? Apparently. Oh, he likes the fantasy. The next person I found on the list who's primary job
Starting point is 01:46:04 is listed as actor is Robin Atkin Downs with 16 mostly ADR credits including Elliott's number one favorite Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter and probably the coolest person on the list is Al Cyrillo, also 16 flop house credits, a helicopter pilot who's more than 500 credits include helicopter pilot, chopper pilot, aerial pilot, and actual helicopter pilot. As to the debate over who might follow and Nick Kase's footsteps, if he continues making
Starting point is 01:46:36 pretty enjoyable and non-taire will movies, Samuel L. Jackson has eight flop credits, well, Idris Elba and Gerard Butler have seven each. Oh, man. I'm surprised Idris Elba and Gerard Butler have seven each based on surprise Idris Elba's tied. My money is on Grimland Battler as a long shot candidate. I could also imagine Gary Oldman going the Nick Cage route, five flop so far, plus Mank, only time we'll tell. Anyway, that's basically the, there's a closing thing, but that's the, that's a pretty amazing work there.
Starting point is 01:47:08 Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I'm very impressed. I'm also the more I think about it, the more we should have done a make episode, the more I think it's still cam, but it's not going anywhere. It's not going into Disney Vault anytime soon. I mean, so when he was like, Disney's like, we didn't make this movie and humanity is like, no, just please take it.
Starting point is 01:47:26 Totally. That's impressive work. I don't know how to do computer stuff like that and I'm just super impressed by it. And I'm kind of curious about what this orchestra contractor does. Like, what does he do? Dan, how does that work?
Starting point is 01:47:41 I imagine that at key contracts, orchestras. He's involved in the right end of the flop house and tell us what an orchestra contract. Yeah, please do. And if you're Peter Rotter, let us know, you're our number one flop superstar. Yeah, hit us up. But let's move on to the final section where we recommend movies that we have seen
Starting point is 01:48:07 usually recently, but whatever goes, things that maybe you'll like better than Boss Baby. Who knows? Maybe it's a movie you've seen in the future, but not yet. Maybe you're a pre-cog. Get out of that bath pre-cog. Yeah, stop touching Tom Cruise. You got to imagine those pre-cogs are so pruny. Yeah, stop touching Tom Cruise. Yeah, you got to imagine those pre-cogs are so pruny. I'm gonna recommend to, but make it very quick since I'm doing so. I watched possession the movie from 1981,
Starting point is 01:48:35 the Samuel. Oh, what's the movie? The Samuel, which is- Is it a bell, Johnny? Yes. Octopus critter. It's a very- Don't oversell the performance of the octopus critter. It's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very,
Starting point is 01:48:48 it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's a very, it's I've ever seen in a movie, like the two of them seem like they're really risking their own mental health to make this film. And you can feel it. It's a movie that just like gives off the vibe of something being wrong in every frame, but it's also weirdly disturbingly beautiful.
Starting point is 01:49:27 And it's about the dissolution of a relationship, but not only about that, it's got weird supernatural elements, political elements. You're never quite sure what's going on, and yet it all seems to make perfect sense emotionally. The, but the other movie I wanted to recommend was like a weird companion piece. Let's call it the goofball, the goofest possessions gallant. There's a movie called, what is it called? Love is a gun from 1994. It's the only movie written and directed by the writer director. It stars Eric Roberts and it seems like the director told him that he could do whatever
Starting point is 01:50:13 he wanted and then told everyone else in the cast to match his energy and it is also, it's kind of the erotic thriller, I guess you would call it version of something like possession where like, it is almost equally as inexplicable what's going on in this movie. But it feels more like if someone took a sort of 90s erotic neo-noir and threw it in a blender with a David Lynch movie, but then also told it like, hey, could you make this movie and make it like walk the line between being wildly terrible and kind of fascinating and good? I love that in a movie when you can watch a
Starting point is 01:51:02 movie that is probably bad by any normal metric, but also sort of works on its own terms. So that's love as a gun. So two strange movies about unhealthy relationships. Do they both have octopus critters in them? Only one has an octopus critter. So that's the deciding factor. Okay.
Starting point is 01:51:21 Watch the conversation. It's hard to get your hands on the director's cat. Yeah. I mean, in a way possession could have been called my octopus teacher. That's true. So I'm going to recommend a movie that I think is in theaters now. You should go and watch it if you can, if it's safe, if not wait for it to be on VOD. It's a movie called The Green Night. I didn't recommend this yet, right? Only on Twitter.
Starting point is 01:51:47 Okay, cool. So you should go check this out. It is based on an Arthurian legend, and it kind of feels like it. It's nice and slow. It's old-timey. It's got some twists. It's got a great dev Patel. Almost nobody is given a name. There's like no dialogue. I almost fell asleep twice, but it was worth it. Very little action unless you count Jisin. I would say check out the green night. Fools. It reminds me. I saw this too. I can, I co-sign this. It is a movie where like, it really makes this time period feel like just such an alien landscape.
Starting point is 01:52:33 And I mean, like a lot of fantasy stuff does happen. It's not like this is the real history, but, but it weirdly feels more evocative. You're saying people didn't jizz back then. People didn't fight headless green nights. But I, it did feel. Like I felt like it felt a bucket of what it must have been like to live back then where like you lived in this fear of how mysterious the world that you didn't necessarily understand all of was. I can, I can see what you're going
Starting point is 01:53:01 for. Yeah, sorry. Yeah. It's As opposed to now when our anxieties are about knowing too much. Yeah, that's fair. And yeah, and particularly like the last 15 minutes of this movie, I think are pretty untouchable. It was a movie that like, yeah, it's great. Thumbs up. I haven't got to see it yet. I can't wait to see it.
Starting point is 01:53:20 Yeah. I'm going to recommend a movie that's also set in a strange fantasy land. That's right Los Angeles. Anyway, so Thank you. Thank you. This is a movie called the Hollywood. Yeah, this is I want to recommend a Miranda, July's last movie Cajillionaire, which stars Evan Rachel Wood as the daughter of two con artists played by Debra Winger and Rich Jenkins And they're very bad-con artists. They're incredibly unambitious and low level, but they act as if they are the matchstick men. You know, they're like a, and they live in an office space that they are renting
Starting point is 01:53:55 that's next to a soap bubble factory. And part of the rules of their living there is they have to, I think at least once a day, use garbage cans to clear the wall of soap bubbles that have leaked in from the other side or else the wall will dissolve. So it's not a great life. And they, as a family, meet Gina Rodriguez and she takes a real interest in Evangel Woods character and starts joining them in their kind of con-hysting and tries to pull her away from these clearly toxic people that she is in the same family as.
Starting point is 01:54:25 And it's in Randall, July movies. That means there's kind of alternating cold weirdness and like intensely sincere emotions. But I like her movies and I like this one a lot. There's some funny stuff in it and there's some emotional stuff in it. The actors are all really great. And yeah, there's some parts that are real creepy,
Starting point is 01:54:46 and I liked it a lot. And it was one of many times where I watched a movie, and I was like, oh, that was a really interesting movie. And then it said, produced by Brad Pitt. And I was like, Brad Pitt, are you producing every movie these days? Because I guess he is. But I liked it.
Starting point is 01:54:59 Could you, Lianair? I think it's on HBO Max right now. Hmm. Well, guys, what a trip we've been on. What fun, family of fair. I wanna thank everybody for putting up with my son. Our pleasure, but I thought he did a great job but I could understand how, not everyone,
Starting point is 01:55:18 while he's talking about like, oh yeah, not everyone's used to what, his way of telling stories, which is to just follow the thread of whatever he's interested in talking about at the moment, you know. Yeah. That's kids for you. What does that look like?
Starting point is 01:55:31 Just laughing at child expert Dan McCoy, giving us some info. Hey, man. I mean, I have them, but I know how they tell stories. Yeah. I remember Dan, I remember Dan, you getting very mad.
Starting point is 01:55:42 This is before I had kids, I think, telling me about how another, another friend of yours who had kids was saying that their kids ate like birthday cake at a party and got really hyper and you were like, the science shows, eating sugar doesn't noticeably increase the amount of hyperactivity of a kid. They've done studies on this and I was like,
Starting point is 01:56:00 I don't know, Dan, I think that's just what they noticed and you were like, but it doesn't square with it. And I thought it was very funny that you were ringing science to a parenting thing. No, no, no, no, no. I just don't like using anecdotal data as if it is a scientific data. This was a parenting thing
Starting point is 01:56:16 than my own annoying peed and tree. Yeah, Elliot, and I'm glad thank you for bringing Samia in. It would have just been like me and Dan, a couple non breeders giving you, you know, outnumbering. And I think I think we got some much of you to the insight into the world of being a dad and being a boss, baby. Yeah, yeah, because since he is a, he is a boss kid. And, and on the dad, there's, you know, time will tell whether he's a breeder or not. He certainly likes to listen to him. Oh, interesting. And yeah, favorite band certainly. And, but you know, the, I think it was just a,
Starting point is 01:56:50 it was just a special moment to share him with the world of podcasting. Listeners, I hope you enjoyed it. Please do not send letters to my son. Do not attempt to contact him. Do not talk to me about him. That is my son. You get away from my son.
Starting point is 01:57:01 Yeah, don't, don't, don't. Bring back my son. If you don't like it, keep it to yourself, there's no need. You know, you can have an opinion that is not one that makes Elliot sad. Like that's the thing that can happen. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:57:14 If you have a critical comment about my son or anything I've done, please refrain. I prefer to get those criticisms from my dad's friends through my dad. That's my preferred method to get criticism of work that I've done. So, he was talking to me today and he was like, so this show you're working on and the next season,
Starting point is 01:57:34 are you gonna develop the characters more because some of the comments I heard were that the characters were kind of not clearly defined. And I was like, what? Some of the comments you were. I didn't watch the show myself, but the chatter is, wow, the love of the thing you're doing. Yeah, on the message boards, everyone's saying that, huh?
Starting point is 01:57:51 Yeah, the subreddit, some part of the Discord channels I run. Yeah. Yeah, when he was, I was on, uh, oh, what's that thing? Well, you just listen to people talking. It's like a conference call. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Yeah, the clubhouse.
Starting point is 01:58:03 That was in this clubhouse. It was in his Taliban run clubhouse and it's like a conference call. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse.
Starting point is 01:58:11 Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse.
Starting point is 01:58:19 Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. Clubhouse. subscribe, tell people about us. Thank you to Alex Smith for being our producer. Thank you to MaximumFun. You go to MaximumFun.org, our podcasting network.
Starting point is 01:58:33 Check out other podcasts. Yeah, just check out podcasts. Yeah, check out podcasts, you know? I hear they're really hot. Right, Matt. So hot. Yeah, now that Kano Bryan's doing them, it's a revolution. Yeah. Yeah. But for the flop now that Kono Brian's doing them. It's a revolution. Yeah. Yeah
Starting point is 01:58:52 But for the flop house I have been Dan McCoy. I've been steward Wellington. I'm Ellie Kaylin and Sammy already left the room So I'll say goodbye for him. Hi, I'm Sammy. Goodbye. Oh wow Bye Yes, so Sammy do you have any questions before we start? No, I think I watched the movie. You can't swear on this book. Yeah, but we're not going to you today. Sammy, like I was saying, you may ask you to leave this. I know, I know, you've told me that many times.
Starting point is 01:59:16 Just preparing you, I just don't want you to be upset about it. I don't need to be too ready. Okay. I love this. No, I need to be too ready. You gotta live in those moments, dude. Yeah, you don't want to be too ready. Okay. I love this. No, I need to be too ready. That's the one that's on the bottom. You gotta live in those moments, dude. Yeah, you don't want to be over-prepared.
Starting point is 01:59:29 Yeah, that's the number one rule of case. Check, check, check. You don't be over-prepared. Or in our case, you don't be prepared much of the time. Wow, okay. Maximumfun.org. Comedy and culture. Artist-owned, audience supported.
Starting point is 01:59:38 Artists-owned, audience supported.
