Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey everyone and welcome to the flop house. I'm Dan McCoy. Hey, I'm Stuart Wellington. I'm I'm Elliot Kalen. Oh, wow. And I'm okay with that. Yeah. Oh, good.
Starting point is 00:00:14 I'm glad to hear that. Hey, and also, we have a guest today. Our guest is Felipe Sobrero. He is a comics artist. He is an illustrator. He is in the extended Flop House universe. He did a t-shirt for us where we were all teen wolves. He has done a lot of illustrations.
Starting point is 00:00:38 It was for our teen-wolf live show. There was a reason we were all teen-wolves. I should have worn that shirt today. I should have worn that. He's a bunch of illustrations for a friend of the show, Nathan Rabin. And a friend of the show, we hate movies. And greatest generation. A lot of friends of the show.
Starting point is 00:00:57 We have friends, guys. Anyway, Felipe. Well, the show has friends, Dan. Thank you. Say more about your work. What would you like to highlight? Hey, guys. How are you?
Starting point is 00:01:07 Hello. That's part of how we talking. Dan didn't even explain this as a mini episode. We're not watching a movie today. Instead of we're going to talk about what we want. But yeah, Philippe, tell us what are your career highlights that you want people to run out and buy? I mean, number one right now is being here today with you guys. Oh, that's very sweet.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Number two is I'm currently drawing the upcoming Toxic Avenger comic for Ahoy Comics, written by Matt Bors, current writer. And I'm drawing the next miniseries, which is the Toxic Avenger versus the Noxious Offender. And recently I also did an official sequel to Blues Brothers, written by, you know, Danac's daughter, Judy Belushi's son. It came out from Z2 Comics. It's an actual, you know, official sequel with a...
Starting point is 00:02:04 It happens before Blues Brothers 2000. So, you know, Jake still alive in the story. And those are my two, like, most recent credits. And what I'm doing right now is the toxic book. And I was looking at your website before we got on. And I saw that you also did. coloring for a book that was conceived by Jason Derulo, who was Rumtom Tugger and Cats. So, yes.
Starting point is 00:02:32 That was very exciting. You have a Cats Association. A Cats connection. Yes. It's a cat's in action. He wrote it and I colored it. I apologize that I have not read the Blues Brothers book yet, but I've heard it's really good. I've been hearing actually really great things about the Blues Brothers single book.
Starting point is 00:02:49 So I'm looking forward to reading that. any blues brothers material that does not have a certain director attached to it is all the more attractive to me. The one who are you talking about. Roman Polansky? I mean, that also would be a problem. But you were kind enough to share with us the first two issues of the new Toxic Avenger book. And it's a really fun book. I enjoyed it so much.
Starting point is 00:03:15 And I have a, just personally, I have a mixed history with trauma products. Sometimes I see them and I'm like, this is so much fun. And sometimes I see them, I'm like, this is not for me. This is a little bit too much. And I feel like the writing and the art both are like right in that sweet spot where it is gross, but it's also really fun and it's really exciting and funny and like genuinely like touching and appealing. And I was saying before the recording, there's a panel in the first issue where there's like a guy who works at a convenience store, a grocery store.
Starting point is 00:03:46 And he's just been killed and his guts are ripped out and he's hanging on the shelves. And I was like, you know what, this should be a horrific image, but there's something kind of fun and funny and like a little adorable about it. I was like, this is the best way you could draw somebody with their guts ripped out just right there on the panel. And I think it's really hitting that sweet spot so nicely of where you want trauma stuff to be where it is, it's pushing the boundaries, but it's pushing the boundaries in a way that is fun, fun and meaningful, you know. So I think you're doing it. It's just really, it looks great.
Starting point is 00:04:18 It looks great. Are you doing the coloring on it as well? No, just the line work. The coloring is by Lee Laudech, who's a notorious colorist. Within my community of, you know, comic artists. He's not famous. He's just famous. Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:36 Yeah, yeah. Just it uses the blood of their victims in the, in the art. To color the his keys comics. It looks, it all looks really great. Thank you. And like the, I think it's the best that Toxie has looked. Oh, wow. I'm going to say.
Starting point is 00:04:49 Thank you so much. Excellent work with that. Well, I'm glad you brought it back to the Toxic Avenger because as Elliot referred to you before, this is a mini episode of the Flop House podcast on our so-called main episodes. We watch a bad movie and we talk about it. But on these minis, we sort of do whatever you want, usually movie-related, not always. But in this case, yeah, we're going to be talking about movies and Toxies, of course, one of cinemas. Great Mutants.
Starting point is 00:05:20 Uh-huh. And so this is going to be a mutant-themed mini. And I'm going to return us to those infernal goofs in a segment I like to call, Look out! The goofs are mutating. Oh. What I like is so many segment titles try to be plays on popular phrases or pre-existing titles. And this one is not.
Starting point is 00:05:44 I like that about it. Maybe you'll like this. It's sponsored by Oridas. Mute taters. The only potatoes absolutely guaranteed not to talk. Wait a minute. Aren't all potatoes mute? Sure, in an ideal world.
Starting point is 00:05:58 But are you willing to take that chance? Orida's mute taters are the only tater brand brave enough to expressly guarantee your potatoes will not scream when you bite into them. Keep it safe. Keep it oridas. I like there's a little calling response there, both from Dan. Like a little bit of back and forth. It was almost like the two sides of Dan's personality
Starting point is 00:06:17 we're talking to each other. Okay The two bears that are inside of Dan We're having a conversation About potatoes Dr. Jackal and Mr. Orida I don't know I'm working on it
Starting point is 00:06:29 So how this is going to work Is I'm going to read you A goof From a movie A mutant related movie And these are not These are movie goofs But they're not necessarily goofy movies
Starting point is 00:06:41 No this is not This is not from a goofy movie Or an extremely goofy movie They are mutants right Like they're mutant dogs in a future where humans have gone extinct. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Into human-like form.
Starting point is 00:06:53 Either they are mutants or Pluto is a mutant. One of those, you know... Oh, that's true, yeah. Could go the other way. They can't both be normal. One of them has to be a mutant. We're going to see, if you can guess what movie I'm talking about. These are all mutant-related films.
Starting point is 00:07:09 For this, though, I am excluding X-Men-style superhero mutants. Thank fuck. Sticking with more traditional mutants. Traditional mutants? You know, the kind that grandma used to make. And then once revealed... In her creature factory. Yeah, she would take them out, leave him on the window still.
Starting point is 00:07:29 Grandma was Rick Baker. Yeah, yeah. Oh, I forgot to mention my grandma was the high evolutionary. Yeah, yeah. Once revealed, I'm going to ask your opinion on the movie, just as a movie, and as a mutant movie specifically. Mm-hmm. You know, so we can have a little chatter, not just, like, play game and make a movie.
Starting point is 00:07:48 people listen to us play a game. I don't know. People like people playing games. There's a whole thing called Twitch. That's all about it. I know. People do love playing games. Yeah. I don't understand.
Starting point is 00:07:58 There's so much about the modern internet. I'm like, I'm such an old man these days. I, the things that I just don't understand. What happened to websites? I was. How come no one goes to Geo Cities anymore? I was talking to Audrey. Where's the angel fire?
Starting point is 00:08:12 Who put that out? There are no rings anymore. Yeah, where are the whip rings? Well, I was talking to Audrey about this whole like school of like TikTok real where it's just like we have clipped a bit of audio and we're lip syncing to it for a moment
Starting point is 00:08:29 and what we're doing is not necessarily funny or interesting but it exists and there's so many of these. Yeah. And I'm like, why does this, why has this happen? And Audrey like offered me all these like perfectly good explanations and I'm like yeah, but like, but why? Why would anyone possibly care to watch this?
Starting point is 00:08:47 Well, I was a hot girl on the internet. I think it's because like I play upon, you know, the thirst of all my thirsty fans. Dan, I think you're looking at things with a very 20th century idea of what entertainment is, which is that entertainment is the thing that entertains you. Something enjoyable. Exactly. In the 21st century, entertainment is just a thing that happens on a screen. It's short enough that you don't have to think about it,
Starting point is 00:09:15 but it's long enough that it distracts you from the pain that is life. And so it doesn't really need, if anything. But it's causing more pain, Elliot. No, no, no, no. Long-term pain. It's something that you can enjoy when you're going from one job to another job in the Kijik economy. Here's the, that situation is right. The word I want to pinpoint there is enjoy.
Starting point is 00:09:35 Enjoyment is not what entertainment is about anymore. Distraction is what entertainment is about. Distraction and making you mad. So, Dan, if you're mad that they're doing that and it's popular, it's doing its job. Oh, okay. The new enjoyment is getting mad at something. The eggs on my face. then I guess.
Starting point is 00:09:49 I'm sorry. Old people. That would actually make amazing content, Dan, is putting eggs on your face. Shelling eggs into my face. And you put that a clip, you put like a three second clip
Starting point is 00:09:59 from a popular song that choosing Texas song or something like that. And that's the whole thing. Too popular. Oh, okay, sorry. Like 100 gecks or whatever they're called.
Starting point is 00:10:08 Are you worried I'm going to get too powerful with my new Texas egg real? I mean, at some point this Texas egg thing all the Texas egg craze will blow over and then where it'll be. Have more egg on your eggs? your face? The hashtag is choose an exis.
Starting point is 00:10:20 That's what it is. Choose your own adventure. In the past, maybe old people were like, I like this thing. That's why I watch it. Young people are like, this thing exists and I don't like it. That's why I watch it. So anyway, continue. Okay.
Starting point is 00:10:34 Well, now that we've proven our old person bona fides, let's go on to this goof game. Okay, here's a, here's the goof for you. Up our next mini is us just talking about Yellowstone so we could further talk about our old person bona fash. I think you're going to enjoy my flop TV gladiator presentation for the olditudes that I'm going to show. That's a little preview. Gladiator's the next one that we're doing based on when this is.
Starting point is 00:11:03 After. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So if I understand correctly, because it was a while since you told us what this game is, you're telling us the goof, are we supposed to guess the movie? Yeah, guess the movie from the goof. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:14 Okay. The mutant movie. Yeah, the mutant movie. Okay, so we have a little bit of a filter on this one. Yes, exactly. This one I think... So it's not going to be like Victor Victoria. Yes.
Starting point is 00:11:25 Okay. It's been a while since I've seen Victor Victoria, but I don't remember there being mutants. No, I don't think so. And it's not going to be like ordinary people, because there's the opposite of mutants. Yes, thank you. Yeah, okay. That's what Cameron Hodge is trying to create a world of ordinary people. Because he loves that movie.
Starting point is 00:11:44 Yeah. Finally, a movie with no mutant in it. Wait, mutant. Tyler Moore is in this movie. Oh, shit. Oh, no. Somebody called Nimrod. Okay, I think this...
Starting point is 00:11:56 I love that Dan was like no X-Men stuff, and immediately it's all X-Men references. We're going to start off on one. I think it's going to be pretty easy. You know, put the training wheels on at the beginning. Here we go. Thanks. Thanks. The two moons of Mars appear in several background shots,
Starting point is 00:12:11 but they're incorrectly depicted. They're both shown as being much larger than they would appear in real life. Phobos would. appear to be about a third of the size of the Earth's moon, and Demos, Demos, would be a little larger than a star. In addition, Bobos orbits Mars faster than Mars rotates, so it would appear to rise in the west and set in the east and should have moved visibly with respect to the other moon,
Starting point is 00:12:34 even from one shot to the next. Real quick, before we pick the movie, I just need to say, I think it is insane that this movie was allowed to be released in, I'm assuming movie theaters. With this kind of a fucking... It's misleading all of America's youth, certainly, yeah, who haven't gotten yet the knowledge they need about Mars's moons.
Starting point is 00:12:55 Their moon expectations have been set incorrectly. I know what movie I think this is, but Stuart, do you want to go first? I saw a look of, or Felipe, do you want to go first? How do we call our names? We raise our hand. How do we do this? I think just yell it out. You've already thought more about this game than Dan had.
Starting point is 00:13:11 Let me finish the goof. Okay, oh, there's more to it? No, no, no, no. I'm saying, don't, don't cut. me off, but let me finish the goof and then just if you got it, yell it out. Total recall. Yes, it's...
Starting point is 00:13:23 Yeah, let's get our asses to Mars. Yes. Those people can't worry about the moons. They need to breathe. People need air. Yeah. Now, what do you think, you know, I assume that we're all big fans of Total Recall as a movie movie.
Starting point is 00:13:36 Yeah, that's fine. Oh. Oh, Kelly. Wow. I think somebody to go beat up Elliot. Wow. I, I only, the only reason Total Recall doesn't do it for me the way that I wish it would is that I can.
Starting point is 00:13:46 I can't help it. This is me bringing this to it. Every time I watch Thoracall, I think about how great Robocop is. And I go, why is this movie not as good as Robocop? No, that's hard, though. That's unfair. It's hard.
Starting point is 00:13:56 It's hard. You take the best movie the guy ever made, and he compares other movies to it. And he's got a good career. Yeah, well, sure. Maybe my, like, fourth favorite barrel of the movie, but, like, it's still great. After what?
Starting point is 00:14:08 Soldier of Orange? I like Robocop and Starship Troopers more, and I'm sure there's, like, one of his artier ones that she looks great. We get in there. I love how you're like, you're like, that's my fourth favorite. One and two,
Starting point is 00:14:21 and I bet there's a third one in there. Well, I like, I just like, I'm pretty sure. Third movie TBD. I can't remember. Showgirls,
Starting point is 00:14:28 probably. Can't remember all the artier ones, but I know that there's like at least one of those that I probably like. It's number one. Fletta. I was going to say is flat. Benadetta's great.
Starting point is 00:14:38 Dan, of course, I probably put a black book before. Because Benetta is super sexy. That's why you picked that one. That is great. It's not. It's not, it's not, I would put it below total recall for me.
Starting point is 00:14:49 Okay. Because nobody gets their ass to Mars. No one gets their ass from Mars. That's true. I was sitting through Benedetta waiting for somebody to get their ass to Mars. It just didn't happen. They got to get their ass to Mars. And when I was watching showgirls, I'm like, I'm seeing asses, but they're not going to Mars.
Starting point is 00:15:04 Getting to Mars. They're out of this world. That's true. They're mooning, but there's no Mars in this movie. There. Yeah. A lot of moons. Those are different moons.
Starting point is 00:15:12 Rotating. Rotating. But not. the right velocity or in the right direction. You should have seen the group I wrote for showgirls. Yeah. Well, what do you think of this as a mutant movie, though? I think the New York Times, by the way, just like
Starting point is 00:15:26 listed showgirls in the like so bad it's good. They're doing like a series of like Yeah. So bad it's good things. And I'm like, come on. Come on, guys. Stop trying to bite on our fucking steeds. Yeah. But yeah, like, yeah, showgirl's good, idiot. I don't know why you have to claim it's bad. It's good.
Starting point is 00:15:44 don't be pushing stuff in a locker. I think it's I think it's better than people said at the time. Like it's trying to do a thing that people didn't recognize. It does have like a lot of like
Starting point is 00:15:59 bad performances and stupid stuff in it. I think it's still not that good. But much like Starship Troopers, I am baffled that when it came out, people didn't really understand what it was trying to do or what was going on. More like when Starship Troopers hit streaming and all the fucking
Starting point is 00:16:13 Gen Z kids were like, this movie's low-key fascist, and you're like, what? And it's just high-key satirical fascism. I mean, that's what the critics did at the time. They were like, Verhoeven may not realize
Starting point is 00:16:25 that he's made a fascist movie. And it's like, do you see the movie? This guy who grew up during the end of World War II. The guy at the end when Dogey Hauser's just wearing like a Nazi uniform, basically, they're like, he may not realize it,
Starting point is 00:16:40 but he has him in a Nazi uniform. Like, I think he knows. But it's similar to, There's so many old movies And then we'll talk about whether we like this movie As a Mutant movie. There'll have done a whoopsie. We've talked about this before
Starting point is 00:16:50 We're like, there's so many old movies where something deliberately sexually, sexual innuendo takes place and people are like, oh, can you believe that? There's the scene in, what's it, the gang saw here where they're dancing around with these huge bananas and they've got like these huge bananas between their legs and people like,
Starting point is 00:17:05 oh, I guess they didn't know what they were doing. It's like they knew what they knew what penises looked like. Like huge bananas. Like sex wasn't invented in 1960. And to return to one of my weird obsessions, I was watching an episode of Jim and the holograms were talking about how later on they have to go to the Rock Hard Cafe. And I'm like, Jim knows what it's doing. Jim knows that's a joke for the adults in the audience, yeah. That's a joke for Dan.
Starting point is 00:17:30 I would argue that like pre-1960s, people were more interested in sex because there was far less other options of entertainment. You couldn't go play fucking video games? They couldn't. That's true. I mean, in the 1960s, they couldn't play video games particularly either, you know, but... Mm-hmm. That's what I'm saying. Like, but even before, like, go back to dawn of time.
Starting point is 00:17:50 Like, you have far fewer things to... Yeah, there weren't any entertainment at the dawn of time. That's for sure. But it's like, it's a little bit like how in the, uh, when they, for many years when they would translate, like, Greek drama and Greek poetry, they'd edit out all the homerotic stuff because it was like, well, this stuff is wonderful, but we can't let anyone know that they knew about this back then. Like, this was not a thing that they could know about.
Starting point is 00:18:11 It's like, I don't know, man. This has been going on for a long time, you know. People have been doing it with different parts of their body and other people for a long time. Okay. So anyway, is Total Recall a mutant movie we like? Is that what you're saying? Yes, yes. Well, yeah, how do you like that?
Starting point is 00:18:25 Certainly it's got a quado in it. That's a pretty good mutant. And what's his name? Benny with his little weird arm. Yeah. Maybe with the weird arm. Yeah. And the triple-breasted lady.
Starting point is 00:18:38 Thank you. And the triple breasted lady. Thank you. It took us a while to get there. Maybe she's just an alien. I don't know. It's hard to say who's a mutant. It's hard to know who's a mutant and who's an alien,
Starting point is 00:18:48 much like in the Latterjay Ninja Turtles comics. Wait, are there any aliens in the movie? I thought it was all... I mean, they're all on Mars. They're literally extraterrestrial. Yeah, there's no extraterrestrial characters unless you count people who are born on Mars. They're all colonists, is what you're saying.
Starting point is 00:19:08 They're all human in origin. It's been a while since I've seen. Then do you think the triple-breasted woman is, do you think she was born that way, or is that a surgical augmentation? Is she a natural mutant or no? It could be, yeah, I mean, it could be either, dude. I think we need the spinoff series.
Starting point is 00:19:22 The spin-off Netflix series, just about this one character, the prequel series, that ends with her in that bar. I mean, the prequel will cover everything. Like, every character explaining everything, explaining how they invented those, like, X-ray walking things, you know?
Starting point is 00:19:37 Yeah, how the Johnny Cab got programmed. this horrible trend of like television can i tell you like so as you know uh my wife they're making a show about ghost busters yeah well that's in that one may be okay that one may be interesting that's not a prequel it's in between two existing exactly it's set within continuity um no uh you know you know that Audrey my wife is a big fan of mysteries British Cozy Mysteries in particular will watch any old crap as she will freely admit. If someone gets stabbed and there's a scene of a teacup
Starting point is 00:20:15 being placed back in a saucer, she will watch it. And there's a new like Tommy and Tuppence series which is like Agatha Christie's third most popular detectives. You know, after Paro and Miss Marple there's also this married couple who are kind of like a less amusing Nick and Norrell Charles. They're just like
Starting point is 00:20:33 you know like, oh, you know, we we're a couple and it's fun to solve mysteries. And this fucking TV show starts out before they're a couple with like, will they or won't they shit? I'm like, why? Why does every TV show have to do this? What do you really want to see is
Starting point is 00:20:51 the stuff that happened before the shit you want to see? Just like the fun stuff is them being a fun couple just doing mystery stuff. Anyway. So they're not doing mystery stuff? It's just about them dating. They still do mysteries. But, you know,
Starting point is 00:21:04 Are they mutant, though? Thank you. Thank you for getting us back on track. Thank you for continuing the flop house theme of the guest keeping us more on track than the house. Let's check under the hood and see if they're mutants. I'm going to peel off the layers of outerwear that I'm assuming they're wearing in this British mystery. Yeah, I'm going to say total recall works for me as a mutant movie. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:21:25 Agreed. Here's another egregious goof. It goes like this. It would be impossible to channel. gas into the subway system without escaping into the air above ground. So. Subway, is it money train? Seems to be a goof based on the Am Sharenko terror attack in the Tokyo subway system.
Starting point is 00:21:52 Is it, uh, is it a horrible? Is Tetsu of the Iron Man a mutant? Is that it? Sorry? No. Tetsu of the Iron Man? Is he a mutant? Yes, Tetsu of the Iron Man a mutant, Dan?
Starting point is 00:22:03 What about Tetsuo 2, the body hammer? I think he would count as a mutant, right? He's like a techno mutation sort of. Cass in the sewer system. It could be a mute. So it's not Batman Begins. It's not Batman begins. No.
Starting point is 00:22:19 There's many things that it isn't. It's not the name of the rose. Is it the name of the rose? Probably not, though, right? What is the name of the rose? Bernie. Oh, okay. Wow.
Starting point is 00:22:29 Bernie Rose, he's my lawyer. It would spell as sweet. It's just said my agent. Yeah. Okay, well It's like Teenage Me and Ninja Turtles or something It's not team and T It is another group of letters
Starting point is 00:22:44 I know Oh I know Is it Chud? It is Chud Oh Chud Anabolistic Humanoid underground dwellers Recently mentioned on New York One
Starting point is 00:22:56 Because they came back Yeah they're back They're back baby It's the Bobblehead at the Met Stadium. Oh, I wish. They just had a Godzilla bobblehead at Dodger Stadium, and I missed it, and I really wanted badly. So I can imagine you over there like, Mayor Mom Donnie is angling for the Chud vote in the upcoming elections.
Starting point is 00:23:15 It's him kind of like eating chud food with chuds and the sailors. Yeah, I mean, they got sick of voting for Curtis Leeuos. What is chud? What is chud food, do you think? Humans, humans, right? I mean, people probably. Oh, I guess they're cannibalistic. Yeah, it's right.
Starting point is 00:23:30 I mean, cannibalistic would mean other chuds, which they probably do eat. Yeah, yeah. But they're humanoid, so I guess humans count. Yeah. So are they mutants? What do you guys think? Yeah, I think so, right? Were they, like, humans that were mutated?
Starting point is 00:23:44 They must have started out as humans that were mutated, right? I don't remember from watching the movie because I saw it a long time ago, but I don't know that they explain it. I believe that there was some sort of toxic or nuclear waste involved. So, yes, I think that- Daniel Stern's in that one? Daniel Stern is in that one, yeah. So much like at the end of Jason Takes Manhattan when they flush toxic waste
Starting point is 00:24:07 through the sewers of New York at what midnight every night, that's probably what they didn't chud to make those chuds, yeah. Is that true? Do they do that? Do they do that? That should be in the goofs of Jason takes Manhattan, right? In actuality, they do not release the toxic waste in New York every day. Also, Jason Takes Manhattan doesn't feature any chuds in the underground scenes
Starting point is 00:24:33 when we all know it's full of fucking chuds down there. Full of chuds, yeah. Chud Central. Okay. Yeah, Chudd Central Station is where the chuds take the trains. Goof by omission, I say.
Starting point is 00:24:46 Okay, well here's a goof that you might enjoy. It's a big mite. When the sock puppet is playing the bells at the talent show, some of the bells ring before he picks them up. I could hardly enjoy this film. so consumed with rage was I at this goof.
Starting point is 00:25:06 Is that freaked? It is freaked. Oh, wow. Freaked. That's a fun movie. I haven't watched it in years, but I remember watching it a lot when I was young because of HBO. And I'd be like, this movie is better than it should be.
Starting point is 00:25:18 Even as a kid, I was like, this movie is funnier than it should be. There's an Alex Winter web? Yeah, with Alex Winter, yeah. There's a joke and I think about all the time. Oh, it's a funny movie. There's a joke I think about all the time where it's a commercial for a product and goes, you're a man, you like cheese. Try machismo.
Starting point is 00:25:35 And this hand just crushes a can for little cheese sports out of it. Anyway, now I'm going to watch that movie. I'm going to find there's tons of jokes that are problematic and I'll be like, I'm sorry, I recommended it. You're to blame. Yep.
Starting point is 00:25:48 I did write and direct it, yeah. I didn't. It's currently available on Amazon Prime, but it's leaving tomorrow. Tomorrow, uh-oh. And this episode's not coming out the day we record it. No, it's not going out. for several weeks.
Starting point is 00:26:01 Oh man. Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is like finding out a star has exploded, light years away. We're only getting the echoes of it. You can't go back and fix it. When you watch Freaked, you are watching the light that was at the set of Freaked years ago.
Starting point is 00:26:17 I stayed away from the trivia, because of course this is a goof-themed mini, but in the trivia, in the trivia. You have to have some standards. You know, it's IMDB. I never know the veracity of anything that said there, but they said that Keanu Reeves got a million dollars to play the dog-faced
Starting point is 00:26:36 bully and Freaked. He definitely got... I don't know that he got a million dollars spent. It seems like that's a lot for the budget of what I presume Freaked had, but... It had a $12 million budget, according to Wikipedia. Total $11 million post-keano cut. Yeah. And Johnny Knoxville was actually
Starting point is 00:26:52 Keanu Reeves stand-in for a lot of shots in there. So... This was... And originally, this is something I think is true, is that this was originally meant to be a vehicle for the butthole servers. Like they were, I think they were going to star in it and didn't happen. No. No. So what do you guys make of?
Starting point is 00:27:12 About the butthole server? Yeah. Are the butthole surfers a good mutant? Me was that. Who was in my room last night? That's a banger. I don't, hmm. I guess, so what are we judging a good mutant movie by?
Starting point is 00:27:27 Mutinosity. You know what? ask a stupid question. Yeah, yeah. No, it's true. I mean, like, well, is it how slimy is it? How, uh... Because there are mutants in it.
Starting point is 00:27:37 There are mutated people, but it's also like, it's a comedy movie. It's not like a serious movie. So you're saying a mutant movie? It's not going to get nominated for Best Picture, probably. No, probably not. Now, how many movies rarely do? How many movies would you say are serious pictures? No, but one where, something like, something like Total Recall or Chud, you are meant to take
Starting point is 00:27:57 the storyline seriously. Yeah. Whereas this is a, it's kind of a cartoon of a movie. No, it's designed to give you a cavalcade of mutants. Of gags and goose. Yeah, they have been freaked, for sure. No, that's a fun, I recall it being a fun movie. I also agree that it's the type of movie that I fear might have stuff that I went to now.
Starting point is 00:28:21 I guarantee you, I'll watch it and I'll be like, ooh, uh, ew. Yeah, well, go back in remembering it was made in 1993. I didn't even realize that's John Hawks playing the cowboy, the person who's half cow, half man. John Hawks? Yeah. Okay. Let's do one more before we'll go to a short break. This one, this is...
Starting point is 00:28:44 Take us down mutant lane, Dan. I'm going to change this one up. This is from the... This is one I'd gotten used to the format. Oh, boy, yeah. I got to keep your head on swivel. Keeping us on our mutant toes. This is from incorrectly regarded as goofs.
Starting point is 00:29:02 Okay, this is long, so listen to the whole thing. Oh, good. The movie is supposedly set in the USA. The person at the bar mentions that Seth eats chocolate bars. This is how a Canadian would describe them. The correct term in America is candy bars. What? This is incorrectly regarded as a goof.
Starting point is 00:29:21 Yeah. While candy bar is common in the U.S., the term chocolate bar is also a standard and widely used descriptor through the U.S. Do you think the same person made both these comments? He had a change of heart. A character's specific choice of vocabulary does not constitute a factual error. Wow.
Starting point is 00:29:39 So we know that someone, what was the name of the person that eats or mutant that eats candy bars or chocolate bars? Yeah, that's the biggest clue. Seth eats a chocolate bar. And it could be Canadian. Not the Canadian cartoonist Seth, right? It's someone else. It's a biopic about Seth. It's a good life if you don't weaken the movie.
Starting point is 00:30:05 Yeah, yeah. Now, I want to live in the alternate universe where instead of making superhero movies, there's just tons of movies based on Seth comics. So it's like, you see the new Clyde fans movie? Don't tell me what happens. Don't tell me what happens. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:25 So. But look, Aville de series, TV series. I love it. I love it. I was just flipping through Wimbledon Green the other day, and I was like, I was like, can I read this to my children? Oh, there's more swearing in this than I remember.
Starting point is 00:30:37 No, I don't think so. Yeah, I want the Fantagraphics Comics cinematic universe. Oh, that'd be wonderful. So at the end of Clyde fans, suddenly they go, have you heard of the Ghost World Initiative? Sure, man. The Comics Journal initiative. Seth. So it's not Seth from Street Fighter.
Starting point is 00:30:58 You know, Mr.'s policeman, I have given you all the clues. It's probably not Seth or set the Egyptian god figure. Probably not. I don't remember being in a movie. Now, this mutation happens, I will tell you, in a different way. In a different way. Some people... Like a dance contest?
Starting point is 00:31:18 Well, you know, I think that a lot of them, you know, a lot of the mutant movies you'll see, like there's some sort of, like, toxic or nuclear waste that causes them. the mutation. This is a more unique thing. Some might dispute whether it's a mutant movie. It's on a lot of list of mutant movies. So, Seth,
Starting point is 00:31:40 possibly Canadian. But not, is it the dark backward. All right, I can see that I've stumped you. This one is... Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, don't, before you say it, I think I know what it is.
Starting point is 00:31:51 I think it is Moulon Rouge. Nope. This is David Cronberg's The Fly The Fly Oh, the Fly Seth Brunnel See, I think of him as Brundle Yeah, that's the thing
Starting point is 00:32:04 Or Brundle Fly Yeah, that's what I think of Oh, I'm like an idiot So this is like he is... I feel so dumb now That I forgot he eats a chocolate bar At some point in the movie He is self-mutated
Starting point is 00:32:15 Well like a fly, you know, they love candy I would say Because the, I would say the 1950s fly He is not necessarily a mutant They've just swapped body parts but the 80s fly, the cornerwork one,
Starting point is 00:32:25 his DNA has been altered. So he is a mutant. That is mutation, the alteration of DNA. So yes, he is a mutant. Come at me, haters. Come at me if you disagree. Okay.
Starting point is 00:32:37 That's a good thing. Lock your door, Elliot, in case the haters arrive. I do lock my door, usually, you know. Start nailing some boards up on your windows. Oh, no. Not at a living haters.
Starting point is 00:32:49 I was just, I was just, it's all Bill Hader. So it's like, Elliot talks too much. I was just talking about these fly movies with my kids the other day because I made a I said, help me, help me. And they had no idea what I was talking about. And I was like, when I was a kid that was just a standard reference you could make
Starting point is 00:33:04 and people kind of generally knew what it was. Which is wild because like that was a long time ago even then. No, but it was the kind of movie that like... It was 40 years before, right? Yeah, it was 40 years. But it was the kind of movie that like our parents would have seen on television growing up. And so there was a lot of old references that I knew because they were repeated on shows written by people my parents' age.
Starting point is 00:33:24 So it was like they are types of stuff, you know. But yeah, that's a, yeah, would you guys say that's a mutant movie, The Fly? The Kronenberg one? Yeah, Kronenberg one. Yeah, totally. Do you think that's the same thing with this generation, that whole thing about you being able to identify the references from your parents' generation? Because I remember I grew up in Colombia, and you used to watch like Tom and Jerry
Starting point is 00:33:46 and Flintstones cartoons, stuff from like the 60s, 50s, 40s. And I don't know if kids today. are as aware of, you know. They definitely are not. I think you're right. Like growing up, even growing up in the United States, like TV was just filled with older stuff, you know? And you had to, and, you know, we're really old people.
Starting point is 00:34:02 But like, you had to watch it because there was nothing else on. You couldn't watch something else. So it was like, yeah, I would get up at early on Saturday mornings. And I'm like, what's on TV? Tudor Turtle, Leo's a lion. Like these cartoons, my parents don't even remember. And a bunch of cartoons, even the more current modern cartoons are also like thinly disguised versions of old
Starting point is 00:34:23 like sitcoms and TV shows. Yeah, exactly. It's the way we've talked about it before, but it's the way media is delivered now versus then. Like back then, even when cable was around, it was just like, okay, well, we had, you know, a limited number of television channels and not enough TV in all of TV history
Starting point is 00:34:42 to fill it all the time. And so we would just get a bunch of old stuff fed to us. Yeah, like dream on. Yeah, like dream on. That's not a hybrid situation, a mutant, if you will. But if you were watching, like, WPIX, you know, the local New York, Channel 11, the movie station, in the middle of the day and a weekend, they'd just be showing the honeymooners because, like, that's what they had access to, whereas kids today, they don't know the honeymooners.
Starting point is 00:35:08 I would watch, like, Gilligan's Island and, you know, the Flying Nunn. That's from, like, 30 years before. Yeah. Yeah, they're all watching, like, Demon Hunter and all these other animas and shit. It's all blue-line. It's not even like original anime. Real Housewives. Yeah, they're all watching Real Housewives.
Starting point is 00:35:26 I get it. The flying nun. That feels like an idea that... Is she a mutant? No, she just has a habit. Special hat. Oh, I see. But that seems like an idea that like I can kind of see that getting greenlit today
Starting point is 00:35:40 more than like back then when there was less stuff. It's like out of all the stuff we're like, yeah, let's make this movie about this nun that can like fly because her hat catches the white. wind or whatever. See that now, this is the, this is me ripping off. Like adult's film or something, right? Yeah. There I can see it, yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:57 But this is me ripping off a tweet I saw that the flying none, the first season would be about how she gets that hat, you know, where it's like, and then she wouldn't really fly. She'd like hover every now and then and she'd fly for real at the end of the last episode of the season, you know. She's on the run from the government to or something like that. Let's take a short break and we'll be back with more goofs. Hey, guess what? Sue the subway train. No, not that gross. I'm just trying to tell you I realized what Dr. Game Show is about.
Starting point is 00:36:33 You know that part of any game show where you meet the contestants and it's only a 30-second conversation? At our podcast, it turns into two hours of small talk with listeners from around the world. Also, the games we play are the ones that they submitted. We have to play the no matter what. Starting point is 00:39:03 The Flop House has an exciting announcement, and it is the same exciting announcement I've been making for months now because Flop TV is on the air. That's right. Season 4 of Flop TV continues a pace. That is the live one hour streaming, streaming directly to your computer video version of the flop house. It's like if the flop house had its own TV show, we said, why should we wait for some network to give us time or money to make a TV show? Let's do it ourselves. And we did. So this is season four.
Starting point is 00:39:31 If you go to theflophouse. Simpletics.com, you will see that, one, tickets are for sale. And two, that the theme this season is, best picture winners. We talked about Green Book. We talked about greatest show on earth. Next up, we're talking about Gladiator, Stewart's least favorite best picture winner, I think.
Starting point is 00:39:49 So how do you see it? I'll tell you how you see it. The first Saturday of every month at 9 p.m. Eastern, 6 p.m. Pacific, you watch it on your computer. At theflophouse.com, you can buy tickets to see it, either individual shows or you can do what the cool people do and buy the season past that's six shows for the cost of five. If you missed any episodes, your ticket will get you access to the video recording of that episode, exclusive access. through the end of February, when the series will end, and we will put these episodes back in the Flop House vault, where they will languish for probably a couple years, is my guess.
Starting point is 00:40:26 So go to theflophouse.com, come join us live the first Saturday of each month, 9 p.m. Eastern, 6 p.m. Pacific, or, if you can't make it to the live airing, watch the recordings afterwards. It's super fun. You get presentations. You get video segments.
Starting point is 00:40:39 The video segment I did for Greatest Show on Earth was me really pushing my acting child. and you won't know what I'm talking about if you don't watch the video or if you saw the show when we did it. I can't wait to see what part of the fun is seeing what Dan and Stewart do for their extras and then seeing their reaction to what I do for my extras.
Starting point is 00:41:02 And it's just super fun and at the end of the episode you get a chance to ask your questions and then we answer them. It's like being at a Flop House live show and you don't even have to leave your house. Unlike a professional television show, we don't let one another know what we're doing ahead of time.
Starting point is 00:41:15 Because we have more fun that way. Unlike a certain show like jackass, Dan. Well, that's also part of the fun. So that's the flophouse. Simpleticks.com to buy your tickets to flop TV. If you're on the fence about buying tickets for flop TV, don't be. Just go buy them. Theflophouse.
Starting point is 00:41:30 com now through the end of February. And we're back. Here's goof for you. Okay. Lay it on me. Oh, you're going to love it. Goof me up. You're going to love it.
Starting point is 00:41:43 This is actually... I'll be totally goofed. Just wrecked me with this. These are two sort of related goofs that I've linked. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, you said one goof. Yeah, I didn't say I was getting double-team by goofs. This is the daily double for goofs. You know, the daily double is still one question.
Starting point is 00:42:01 You get it for jeopardy, but for goofs. You're right. I forgot for what was it called, what was this one called? Yikes, the goose are coming? Look out the goofs are mutating. That's what it was. Okay. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:42:15 Goof number one? This is like, let's call it Goof A. The police. That's what they call Goofy in France. The police are continuing. Ah, Gufé. Gufé. He's a genius, you know.
Starting point is 00:42:32 He is a, oh, the physical comedy of Gooféhe. He's a good father. Yes. The police. Why does Goofé never smoke? Gouffe captures the American spirit. The police are continuously driving around underground tunnels with their sirens blaring
Starting point is 00:42:54 even when there are no cars, pedestrians, or anything else in the vicinity. That's Gouf A. Goof B. It's not really a goof. It's a bad decision, but... Goof B, toward the end of the film, about five cops and Frank get out of the police car in the drainage shuttle.
Starting point is 00:43:11 The lead detective hands Frank a loaded rifle but points the rifle directly at two cops before handing it over to him. Then Frank proceeds to dangerously point the rifle at two other policemen. Now, in general, this just sounds like police behavior, but these are the goofs. These are the goofs, guys.
Starting point is 00:43:28 Goofs God gave us. I have maybe an answer. It's a movie I just watched for the first time recently. It would be like from left field for them to pick this one. But remind me maybe of something from Alligator, 1980, which is an animal, but it's a mutant animal. That's true.
Starting point is 00:43:48 I think it would probably qualify. That's not it, but you're in kind of the vague vibe area, like time period, feeling. So. It's not, it's alive, right? It is. It's alive. I was going to say die hard with a vengeance. About a mutant baby.
Starting point is 00:44:07 A mutant baby, because I didn't remember them driving in the tunnels, but I remember the dad getting the gun and then. They're tooling around those tunnels in their It's amazing My memory of it is mostly about the mutant baby And not so much about them driving around Is there the Michael Muriardi one? Yeah, the stars in it Yeah, yeah
Starting point is 00:44:26 Baby Monsters Music by Bernard Herrmann And the score is very similar To his taxi driver's score at times Yeah I'd seen this years ago And then I saw it again recently Because It's Alive 3 was a ridiculous
Starting point is 00:44:41 Oh, yeah. Island of the babies or whatever? Islands of your life. Some friends were like, we got to see the other ones that were prepared. I'm like, I guess. Part three was crazy.
Starting point is 00:44:50 That's a crazy movie also. Well, they're not even babies anymore. But they still look like babies, but they're giant, you know. Yeah. Oh, yeah. What a nutty movie. If you, I mean,
Starting point is 00:45:00 even if you don't want to see It's Alive, skip to number three. I don't think you're going to miss a lot. You'll have a good time. I think you'll be able to pick up the continuity. Part four is it's alive goes to college, right? You know, College of the Alive. College of the Alive.
Starting point is 00:45:16 Thank you. College of the Alive. It was right there. University of the Alive, yeah. You know, we all recently did the Puppet Masters and Castle Freaks. Are you jealous that I got to do Gooli's three? That's exactly what I was going to say. I was like, I picked something kind of at random from the list and I was like, oh, man,
Starting point is 00:45:34 Stuart, that fuck. I didn't realize. I didn't realize there was such delicious food available. Yeah. When I, when I, when I, when I, when I, when I, when I, when I, they told me. but when I did it, they were like, we're going to have Stuart for goleys go to college. Like, they were very excited about that matchup.
Starting point is 00:45:46 I was so pumped. I mean, if you've got to pick someone, obviously it's Stuart, but... Yeah, I got to do the daytime ended, because we did that for mystery science theater. I'm going to tell you, if you want to watch a demo reel for a stop motion animation, the daytime ended is not the worst one to watch.
Starting point is 00:46:03 So, Dan, which movie did you end up doing? It was called Vengeance of the Dead. It was a sort of a regional horror movie. Extremely lower. Yeah, you don't know this. Like, there's a whole, like, this is just a term that is used, like, for, like, low-budget horror movies
Starting point is 00:46:19 that were made, like, way out of, like, Hollywood. But it wasn't like, it was not like, we want to appeal to a specific region with this. This is like an upper, upper-Pacific Northwest. Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is a way of the thing outside of Hollywood. I see. Everybody's eating hot dogs and being jimbleushies.
Starting point is 00:46:37 We really want, we want our horror movies really to penetrate the Albuquerque Metro region. Yeah. What's an Albuquerque specific creature we could have? Mm. Some kind of tremor, probably. Guys, what do you think of it's alive as a mutant movie? Oh, for sure.
Starting point is 00:46:57 Yeah, I agree. Yeah. The whole series of movies, right? Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Really keyed into America's fear of mutant babies. It's interesting.
Starting point is 00:47:09 It's a life and your head, both. Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah, that's true. Yeah, you get the high-brow and low-brow options. Of fear of parenting, yeah, yeah. Is this the same story? I don't know. It's exactly the same story.
Starting point is 00:47:21 Like, the body count for the baby and eraser head is much lower. I think it's interesting, the series It's Alive, like, they do push ahead the continuity, but it's like, okay, it's alive, a couple has a mutant baby, has mixed feelings about this mutant baby, like, still has affection for it because it's their baby. but like, you know, it's killing people. And then the second one is kind of just a retry of the first one, but they're more mutant babies. And then the third one is totally wild.
Starting point is 00:47:51 It's totally boncos. Well, so because when they brought James Cameron in to pitch the sequel to It's Alive, he wrote It's Alive on the board and then wrote an S at the ends was It's Alives. Yeah. And then he turned them to a dollar sign. That doesn't. That's not. I'm saying there's more babies.
Starting point is 00:48:06 Oh, oh. Because like the babies are not called It's Alives. They're alive. That would have. It doesn't turn into a dollar sign. No, it doesn't turn it. They need an S at the end to make a dollar sign, yeah. Okay, here's a goof for you.
Starting point is 00:48:18 Brenda and Bobby notice a bird circling above. And Bobby says it's a turkey buzzards. So many good B sounds in that sentence. Yeah, it's like we're in the middle of a scenes from Italian restaurant. Brenda and Bobby, notice a bird circling. Bobby says it's a turkey buzzard. However, the bird shown is not a turkey buzzard, also known as a turkey vulture,
Starting point is 00:48:43 and it is instead a hawk. The calls that make are also not realistic for a vulture or a hawk. So the first part I would say is incorrectly regarded as goof because just because a character is wrong doesn't make the movie wrong. Yes, the character may be wrong on purpose.
Starting point is 00:48:58 Yeah, that's a good point. But how do you explain the calls then? That I can't explain. They're coming from inside the house. Oh, it's me making the call. To myself. Remember when that was like a wild thing that could happen? Yeah, because people were like, they'd be like, the calls coming from inside the house
Starting point is 00:49:15 and people were like, they have two phone lines in their house? Yeah, yeah. There's a murderer loose with a rich person. Everybody's got a fucking cell phone. Now, I know. Constantly texting my wife in the other room because I don't want to get up. Exactly. Yeah, the idea of a, I mean, it's right up there with the doctor was a woman where the shock
Starting point is 00:49:31 has worn off, you know. It is no longer an unbelievable but possible thing, you know. Or that the Pagliacci is a clown. I think that was the twist. I mean, they always, yeah, they always knew he was the clown. They just didn't know he was, anyway. Who was the clown? It's more of the...
Starting point is 00:49:50 Mona. I love the idea, that story about that Pagliacci story where it's like, but doctor, I am Paliachi, it's like, he's this is a bad doctor. If it's like, hey, I feel, I have deep depression. Why don't you go see this clown? That'll cheer you up, right? No, it's probably rooted somewhere in my psyche. Like, I probably have trauma.
Starting point is 00:50:09 I'm not processing probably. That might take my mind off things for like a night, doctor. I don't know. You haven't seen Pacayachi's act, right? It's very therapy. It's very deep. Yeah. It's like that clown we saw, Elliot.
Starting point is 00:50:23 The Archie clown. The ha ha ha ha ha ha show. Yeah. What if it was, what if this story goes, this man goes, I'm so depressed. I don't know what to do. He goes, you should go see Paliachi show. Go see him. Okay.
Starting point is 00:50:32 And he goes, and the Paliachi is clearly the therapist dressed up as a clown. It was, for my act, I need you to love. lie down on this couch and tell me about your childhood. And a two drink a minimum. This is what we call a bringer show, so I had to prescribe this for you. Everyone there is just his patience.
Starting point is 00:50:52 This therapy session was really just a way to get us to come see his Paliachi act. Okay, well anyway, this movie. This means I get 15 minutes for my set. Straight into vampire territory, but that's okay. Good, good.
Starting point is 00:51:10 Good, good. Oh, come down. Come in. Sit down. I will do some clowning for you. You should go see Paliachi. He's a great clown. But, doctor, I am Paliachi.
Starting point is 00:51:22 That's okay. I'm Dracula. He bites him. God is so layered. Here's my other take on this one. Here's my other twist on this before we come back to this bird thing. He goes, you should go see Paliachi. He says, he goes, he should go see Paliachi.
Starting point is 00:51:39 He's in town. But doctor, I am Paliachi. And the doctor goes, well, when I asked you to describe yourself, you could have mentioned you were a famous fucking clown. Now I look like a real idiot. Kind of left out some important information there that would have helped me figure you out. Unless you tell me things. This is about the work you are willing to put into the relationship. That is what will help you.
Starting point is 00:52:00 You're right. You're right. I should have known that you're a famous clown. Yeah, it's not like you wear a grease paint and a mask all over your face during your act. We're going to put it like a hot link to the Pagliagliagi story in this episode, right? So people can. I mean, it's a mean at this point. Just put it in blue and they'll put it on it.
Starting point is 00:52:18 So they saw it. So a guy misidentifies a bird. The key clues are there someplace where Turkey Buzzard might be seen. What a clue. Well, it's a mute movie. Felipe, if you have this one, I will be so, I will be in such awe because I have no idea. Yeah. I would normally not know it, but it's also a.
Starting point is 00:52:37 Another movie I just saw for the first time, very recently, like two weeks ago, featuring mutants. So maybe it is. Is it the Hills Have Ice? It is the Hills Have Ice? Whoa. Very good. Very good. Because the hills are mutants.
Starting point is 00:52:52 Uh-huh. Yes. A hybrid of Hill and Man. Which one are we talking? Are we talking to the remake? We're talking about the OG. This is the original. Oh.
Starting point is 00:53:02 It's a long time since I saw that. I forgot about the famous turkey buzzard as well. The remake? I don't know. I don't know. I saw, sorry. No, you're going to say something really dumb. Flip at what were you going to say?
Starting point is 00:53:15 I watched the old one and I was surprised about how, you know, not very mutants there. I saw the remake years ago in the tier and they are really mutated in that one. They're like, like Hillbill is gone wild maybe in the old one. Yeah, I don't know that I would call the mutants. I think they're just kind of in-bride hill people. man, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:38 Yeah. I would say, yeah, I would say I don't think that's a mutant movie. Well, I mean, there's nuclear testing in that area that's a reference that, uh... I guess. I guess. I don't know. I mean, it was... Yeah, I wouldn't say.
Starting point is 00:53:55 The remake is definitely a mutant movie. The original, you can maybe say yes, maybe no. I think they were kind of, I think they were kind of half doing it either way. Because when the original came out, there were plenty of movies just about. evil hillbillies basically like they didn't need to be monsters you know yeah this was a I mean certainly the uh inspiration for it was uh just sort of evil uh people out in the middle of nowhere because uh apparently it was inspired by west craven like stopped at a gas station and like got there's like some like altercation with like someone who said to maybe his wife or something and
Starting point is 00:54:34 he was like like I there might have even been some sort of threat of violence and West Craven's like well I'll call the police and he's like we could just kill you and dump you in the mines or whatever and he's like okay so can you say that in my little tape recorder
Starting point is 00:54:53 so that I can yeah my little ideas tape recorder that's what West Craven carried on. Yeah yeah he called it his little ideas tape recorder he had written that on a piece of scotch tape or a piece of masking tape and put that on there yeah Well, we're in the home stretch. There's only two more goofs. Only two more goofs.
Starting point is 00:55:09 Then all the goofs are covered. Yeah. There are no more mistakes. We'll close the goof book for goof today. This is a, but this goof has some redactions because otherwise it will give it away. Give it away. The redacted live in the sewer of Manhattan in New York City. All right.
Starting point is 00:55:30 Sewers handle the bodily waste of several million people. there's no possible way that the redacted could completely avoid coming in contact with human waste while moving through the sewer tunnels. So this has got me Ninja turtles, right? This is teenage mutant ninja turtles. How is it a goof? Because there's no poop in the movie.
Starting point is 00:55:47 What a goof. I mean, do you look like, it's not like you hold a fucking black light to them. It is true that the Ninja turtles are really good at finding rooms in the sewer, which I don't think there are very many of, you know? Yeah. There should be like a hard to be a god. version of turtles with the realistic sewers.
Starting point is 00:56:07 That would be gross. Just sloshing through human waste. Now, here's the thing. I think they miss the bigger goof in the movie, which is that turtles are very hard to teach martial arts too. That is a major... It's unrealistic the idea that they were. Incorrectly regarded, because these are mutant turtles.
Starting point is 00:56:27 Yeah, but even mutant turtles are pretty hard to teach martial arts. Do you have a lot of experience teaching mutant turtles stuff? Yeah, I do. I don't like to talk about a lot, but yeah, I do. It didn't work out. Paliachi's like, I didn't tell you everything about my life. Yeah, you don't know everything. I'm splinter.
Starting point is 00:56:45 I forgot to mention that. Yeah, yeah. You think this is a good mutant movie? Which one? There's like a million Ninja Turtles movie. Well, this is the first one. Okay. I got this off of it.
Starting point is 00:56:56 Yeah, yeah, this is a good one. I like the suits. I'm into the suits. Yeah. Yeah. I'd say for sure, yeah. That's a mutiny movie. It fulfills my desire for mutants.
Starting point is 00:57:07 Right in the name. The thing it doesn't have is often mutants in movies are gross-looking and the turtles are not like gross-looking. Like they're not... Quite the opposite. Yeah, they're adorable. I think what usually often mutant implies, especially in like the toxic Avenger type stuff,
Starting point is 00:57:23 like mutant implies decay or rot or corruption in some way because of this, whereas the turtles are, they look totally healthy, you know. But they're in the prime of life. They're teenagers, you know. Yeah, we don't know how they're playing football and just able to do it. When they're in their 40s, they'll be horrible to look at, you know. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:45 Oof. They're terrible. I mean, they don't have to worry about losing their hair, I guess, but they're going to have that thing where, like, their butt gets really weird and, like, not, not, it's both not saggy, but also it's kind of like imploding a little bit. Like, that happens to a lot of guys when they get older. I mean, turtles live a long time. That's a exercise issue. Maybe teenage turtles are. in their 40s.
Starting point is 00:58:04 Yeah, that's a good point. Also, you're saying that the turtles will die pretty soon, is what you're saying. I feel like the turtles live a long time. That's what I know. Well, tortoises live a long time. I don't know if turtles live that long of time. They do live long.
Starting point is 00:58:16 The, I would say ninja, so, wait, when I think of mutants, I think of like, what is it, El Monstro from the end of the substance, like all like a big, big, yeah, so that's something that is like, deformed in some way.
Starting point is 00:58:31 Or that is, that is, that is grotesquely misshapen. An aberration. That's a great way to put it. Exactly. As opposed to the turtles, which are a perfection of the form. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:42 Especially well. Like Leonardo da Vinci, Drew. Okay, we got one final goof here. I think someone here might get this one. Okay. It goes like this. It's very short. Myron tells Lance to press the third button on the intercom.
Starting point is 00:59:02 there's only one button. Terrible goof. Yeah, this is pretty... This sounds like it might be one of the best movies I've ever seen in my life called the head of the family. Head of the family. Myron.
Starting point is 00:59:17 Didn't mean to n-scope that one on you guys. Yeah, you just really... I'd be very upset. Coming from downtown. That's the sort of thing we're like, if we were recording and I was at home, I would have run all the way over here and answered it.
Starting point is 00:59:33 Just ducked down on the microphone. He is clearly a mutant. And I also wanted to add that the castle freak would also be a mutant, right? You're correct. I believe I would say that Giorgio is a mutant despite the fact that some of his aberrations were inflicted upon him. He is not exclusively the subject of, yeah, he is a true outsider. And now the invisible maniac, would he be a mutant? No, right?
Starting point is 01:00:05 I mean, it does play with his DNA to turn himself invisible. Man, it seems like all my movies. I mean, when the granny ingests the what, can we call him the mutant trilogy from now? Yeah, I think we have to. I think story is all about mutants. I don't know. I'm not quite sure why Georgio is a mutant, though. But I think that he...
Starting point is 01:00:25 He means a natural mutation rather than a... I mean, every human being is a natural mutation. That's just how genetics works. Maybe every movie's a mute movie. Yeah, they're all, you know what? Ordinary people, all these movies are, the name of the rose, they are mutant movies. We're all of them. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:38 Green Book. Out of Africa. Exactly. All of them. Every movie. If it's a real movie out of Africa would be. If out of Africa exists, which we won't find out until February. But yeah, every, that's how human generation and evolution works is through mutation.
Starting point is 01:00:53 So we're all, yeah, it's all mutant movies. So forget what I said about the, about the Hills Have Eyes, mutant movie. They're all mutant movies. Every movie's a mutant movie. This is going to come out after the, the greatest show on Earth show, but people can obviously watch it still with a ticket.
Starting point is 01:01:07 Yeah, we won't stop you. You don't have to watch it live. That's one of the beauties of the forum. But I was, I'm doing the summary for Greatest Show on Earth and just as like a little like, you know, for prep. A little teaser.
Starting point is 01:01:20 I like looked at the Wikipedia page and I'm like, wow, this movie is about something that I did not expect. And I don't want to spoil it for you if you haven't watched the movie yet, but there are elements in and the radio on earth
Starting point is 01:01:33 that I'm like, what? That's what this movie's about? So, look forward to that. Or in the past. So if you haven't, yeah,
Starting point is 01:01:41 again, light of a dying star, yeah. Or remember back to when you discovered that for yourself, yeah. Yeah. So those are the...
Starting point is 01:01:49 So did we all agree that, that head of the family is a great mutant movie, right? Everybody... Oh, yeah, one of the top ones.
Starting point is 01:01:55 Absolutely. Look at the size of that head. I still haven't seen head of the family. I mean, hey, your kids are about the right age. That's true.
Starting point is 01:02:01 I've seen the other two movies. They love heads. They love heads. Jacqueline Lovell is very nude in that movie for a lot of it. That's just human bodies, dog. Yeah, come on. The most beautiful of mutation, a human body. And I'll tell you something.
Starting point is 01:02:16 She's putting in a good performance. She gives a great performance in that movie. Yeah. Nobody's saying she's giving a bad performance. I'm just giving her credit that like she probably did not get at the time. You know, the types of movies she was in, she probably didn't get the good feedback that she needed but she was great of the families on tubi maybe i'll watch it next um belipe before we go uh is there something you want to
Starting point is 01:02:42 plug i know that you're going to be uh in new york soon for the the comp con is that true did i remember that correctly yes i wanted to ask when is this coming out because uh that is a good question and i think i can answer it for you it is I believe it will come out on October the 10th. Okay, okay, perfect. October the 10th. So I'll be in New York, like you said, for the Comic Con, where it's the first issue of our toxic book is coming out on the 7th of October.
Starting point is 01:03:19 And the Comicon is from October 8 to 11. I will be around. I don't have a table myself, but I will be sitting with Justin Jordan, a friend of mine, at the artist Sally. There's a signing at Forbidden Planet with Matt Bors, with Lloyd Kaufman, of the Toxic Adventure issue, number one, from 4 to 7 p.m. And a week later on October 17, will be with third eye comics in Glenn Burley,
Starting point is 01:03:53 Glenn, Bernie, Maryland. I think it's around Baltimore. It is. Yeah, that's where. I had my bachelor party. Yep, Stuart knows Glenn Bernie well. Because that's where the headquarters for the Warhammer people used to be. Exactly.
Starting point is 01:04:06 We're going to have a signing also there, October 17. And that's it. Follow me on social media at S-O-B-R-E-I-R-O and Instagram. And it looks, like I said, it looks fantastic. The art looks great. Yeah. So it's well worth it. But, yes, thank you to all of our listeners.
