Starting point is 00:00:00 On this episode we discussed the movie set on the sexiest holiday, Labor Day. Hey everyone and welcome to the flop house, I'm Dan McCoy. I'm Stuart Wellington. And interesting Stuart Wellington's new way of talking, I'm Elliot Haillin. Should I not just keep doing that or? Hey it's up to you it's a free country. I mean, should I not keep doing that? I actually don't. Yeah. Started his British nighter than if he came just kind of like, I don't know. A fat guy in an 80s comedy. Well, I don't know what's happening here. Well, you kids better stop it
Starting point is 00:00:59 before I call the police. There's a little Jimmy Stewart. We'll shut down this bikini party. Oh man Jimmy Stewart hates bikini car washers. The man Jimmy Stewart's career had really done downhill and he had to do bikini movies. Well, what was that? That girl over here over there is quieter. Beautiful piece of tail. Bobby, why don't you ask her out? This was advertised as a bikini car wash.
Starting point is 00:01:23 They're taking their tops off. That's... I'm not paying for that. This is a service I did not ask for. Well, I got a letter from the bank saying I have to lose my bikini store. I can't pay the mortgage. I have to put on some kind of strip show. Oh my uncle left the bikinis, so they lost them somewhere. Sorry, anyway. What is life?
Starting point is 00:01:52 I'm trying to do a, it's a wonderful life thing. Oh, I see a thing. Where are the bikinis old man? What else is going to jail? It's not gonna be me. Jimmy Stewart's one of those accents for me that always comes out when I try to do Sean Connery for too long. I found a cure for cash on my lost in room.
Starting point is 00:02:18 So what do we do on this podcast? This is a rich little podcast. This is a very little where we talk. Now this is a podcast we talk about bad movies that we just watched. This is a plan that we talked about bad movies that we just watched. In this case, the bad movie question was a little number called Labor Day. Labor Day. Labor Day. Labor Day. Actually, I think it was probably a rate of PG. Probably after PG 13. I'm here.
Starting point is 00:02:38 I'm here. I'm here. America gives up all labor for 24 hours. Or has a baby. Really should be called no labor baby. Wait, what? Really, she called No Labor Day. Yeah, thanks. Thanks for that joke that I've seen every day,
Starting point is 00:02:52 since Labor Day was invented. We never really did. You've been around every day since Labor Day. Yeah. Why would they make it Labor Day jokes every day? It's not topical. Why are you doing that? You Christmas tree.
Starting point is 00:03:04 I'm just doing a it's a good one. Well, for the first two years after labor, labor, it was a bit of it. It was the talk of the town. So the tip of everyone's tongue. And then after that, they just become more close. They just become a bit more close. The tip of the tongue. The laborer.
Starting point is 00:03:20 Talk of the town. So, this movie could have been rated art though for hardcore pirated. Now, yeah, there's much of pyromaniacs in this, and romantic pie makers. Now, Dan, Labor Day, is that some of these Gary Marshall holiday comedies like New Year's Eve or Valentine's Day or Arbor Day or Cinco to Mayo Day or Day of Dead Day or Armistice Day? dead day or an armistice day. It is a boxing day.
Starting point is 00:03:46 Boxing day. The movie story. Liam Neeson, the whole night. The science guy. I would love to see a movie that is a comedy where the idea is that like some filmmakers in a small English town made their version of a Gary Marshall multi-baric character holiday movie. It's boxing day. English town made their version of a Gary Marshall multi-barre character holiday movie It's Boxing Day and it's just whoever the the metaness of the movie is the story is that they just rounded up whoever they could
Starting point is 00:04:11 From around the town so it's like the green grocer and the ale wife falling in love with each other and a chimney sweep and I don't know I'm a news agent the news agent Yeah, the news agent of the sea See when you said I would like to see the boxing day comedy, I was thinking it would be a couple of washed up boxers are like they see. Yeah, right. They're like, oh, boxing day. That's something that's observed in Canada. Clearly, we need to go up there because that's where we're going to be stars again. They discover it's just a day when the servants got to
Starting point is 00:04:42 open their presents. It's just the day that they celebrate boxing Helena Canada and the UK is favorite movie everyone dresses up as a leg. So With no legs and arms like living in a box all day long So Labor Day. It's a comedy right? Uh, no. This is Jason Reitman is trying to break out Jason Reitman. I know like Jason Longman. Oh man, you sing them, sir. Boom, he's not getting up soon from that, because I also punched him. Wow.
Starting point is 00:05:16 Not really. Anyway, so this was Jason Reitman's attempt at making an adult drama. Yeah, we know him usually from such sort of more cynical comedies as your thank you for smoking your Juneau, your up in the air. Why are those lines? Why do you like Juneau? You are the right, you are very rich. I don't realize so barely I buy them the rights to movies that just don't make me figure every time I see a movie I don't particularly like I go let me I must buy it I must own it and edit my movie in adjury Because if you read the world of all the imperfect movies only perfect
Starting point is 00:05:56 Only perfect movies like sys and can and phantasm 4 of living You told it's terrible I don't live in that world. You told me it's terrible. You didn't move. I think the world of things has a good time. There's only four people and they're all in a desert all the time because there's no money. Yeah, a lot of tuning forts though.
Starting point is 00:06:17 A lot of tuning forts. A lot of babes, but instead of breasts, they have killer spheres. Yeah, and Reggie Manister is showing his age. Yeah, well, no. I think he's a game. The guy who was already like balding and punching in the first movie, the most unlikely action here. What I like about him is that, is that in that movie,
Starting point is 00:06:39 it's about a kid and his funky older brother and their friend, the ice cream man. And over the course of the movies the ice cream man becomes the hero and is involved in all the action scenes. We're not about oblivion. We don't watch oblivion today. We watch, we'll believe you. We don't have that fantastic movies. We watched Liberty. Now, Dan, so this was Jason Wrightman's attempt to make a serious drama. He's breaking it. And let's give him ambition for breaking out of the box. He could have made unfunny comedies for a while and said he decided to make an unfunny boring drama. And I want to,
Starting point is 00:07:11 you know, a little moment behind a peak behind the curtain. We actually watched a labor day. Jane Kurt. Jane, can you move over a little bit? Thanks. Now we can see the fact that we actually watched Labor Day on a screener, an award screener, that was sent because Elliott and I both being in the industry. They were both in the writers guild, so we get writers guild awards. Yeah, we get writers. Yeah. But so this was a movie that they thought had real awards. And they were swimming inside her. Potential. This was a movie. This was one of the one-tay wins the Golden Globe. Well, you know. Yeah. You know.
Starting point is 00:07:50 As far as I can. How many of you get it? No, for drama. Yeah, for comedy and musical. But so this is the unlikely tale of a woman who finds love in the unlikeliest place. Flash for George. Not on the 07. That flash for. The movie is set in 1987 although much the movie feels like it could have taken place in
Starting point is 00:08:08 The 50s 60s the 40s when I'm saying yes I'm saying is unless the kid is reading a comic book or magazine Yeah, they do it or you see a movie poster in his bedroom wall. They do a not very good job Or movie marketing a sense of time. Yeah, this could have been Steven Sutterberg's King of the Hill It's true. I don't like judges' King of the Hill for all of us. Sure. But with Boom Hauer showing up. No, but you're right. This feels very depressiony. Yeah. Not just because I was depressed watching it,
Starting point is 00:08:34 but then the character will take a part of it because it was a little bit derriere. The part of it, I guess, is just that the very premise of the movie, which I guess we should state, which is a convict escapes and finds refuse. Let's start from the mouth. Let's start from the mouth. But my point is like this convict escaping and staying in the house and finding romance. Like that feels like a noir, like set up sort of, or like it feels like something. Yeah, we're all man.
Starting point is 00:09:01 It feels old. From the past. Yeah. Well, this is the past day in's 1987 all right almost 30 years ago You feel old right now. I do feel very old. Yeah Back on cracked magazine people are still listening to Miranda ran right guys that's still hit I mean, I don't think they're listening to this movie No, no, this is fucking Stephen King
Starting point is 00:09:19 1987 This is a 1987 movie in which you hear no Current music from that time which is a little weird even when they're in stores and cars and if the movies have taught me anything in the 80s People were constantly walking around solving Rubik's cubes and I didn't see any Rubik's It's like how it's in X-Men days of future past it's the 70s You know that because we're moving walks outside everyone's dressed like a pam everyone So you got to 80s up the clothes a little bit. So anyway, actually, when that's actually something
Starting point is 00:09:47 that I think normally would be a strengthness movie, which is that they don't 80s it out. It's not like everyone's dressed like our stereotype to the idea of the 80s and listening to like, you know, the panels and stuff. Yeah, watching flash dance for the same time, they go too far on the other direction. You're like, when is this where it's,
Starting point is 00:10:03 maybe they're going for like a classic look Anyway, so the next time it was a little bit more because there's a lot of flashbacks in this movie and you're like What is going on? Yeah, it's difficult. Is this happening another panel? I hope that's a good point. There's flashbacks that's the stuff that's happening in the late 60s or early 70s And you don't know that it's different you think these these, yeah, that it could be just cutting through space rather than time. Sure. Now, let's play a talk on the movie. It's 1987.
Starting point is 00:10:29 And there's a woman Adele, who is a single mom, and she is basically a shut-in. And she lives with her 13-year-old son, Henry. And she doesn't get out much. Well, I'm sure. Her dad. The dad left the family for his secretary. And so now it's just Henry
Starting point is 00:10:45 dad's whiteboard clerk Greg. Clark Greg. Best known as Agent Agent Colson. Agent Colson. Agent Colson. The line of the English and I call him. I shot a I shot an Elbatross. I did it on my neck. That Elbatross this name was Marvel's agents Shields. The 13 episodes. I was cursed to be on ABC. In this boring show. To be the best thing. Carth Greg, Ian, the rhyme of the ancient cult, said.
Starting point is 00:11:16 There we stood. A show moving without any motion. Like a paint in ship on a painted ocean. Our hubris was our town ball. In thinking anyone would watch any crab with Marvel's name slapped on it. Anyway, so we love you for a break. I like them a lot. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:34 The point is they're having trouble and the sun is trying to like make his mom happy and he does this by in the early movie. He makes a booklet that says husband for for the day, and it's coupon's for like a back rub, and he'll do the dishes, and take it in a movie, but it's really creepy. Yeah. And it's like, the very name of it, husband for the day, sounds like a porn.
Starting point is 00:11:54 Yes. For nicest porn man. Yeah. Excuse me, ma'am. My type, or husband for the day. My type, or not for the whole of your garbage for the day. I mean, I'm a little too old, so I mean, it's like, it was the name of your husband. My type would up with all your garbage for a day. I mean, I'm too old to. Well, I mean, it's like, it was an evil like a Tijuana Bible or something.
Starting point is 00:12:09 Oh, what? Who the famous character's throwing it? John Dillinger. John Dillinger was a husband's great day. What in the world? It was like, Papa, really? Really, really, like a man has sex with a garb over something It's party Google and angry department Finally It's one of those deal in a barbell finals. Yeah, we're we're we're a matchup. We're dagwood and carry grant double team olive oil
Starting point is 00:12:43 And it was made and now it rests in the collection. I like creepy some creep overweight guy. By the way, who bought it in the state sale from Pervert. It's canonical, right? Yeah, it's all canon. I mean, all carry grant canon. You really have to think, I like to think, and you have to know this stuff. I've lived in a self-man. There are people. They're not going to give it up for a movie star and a guy who eats big sandwiches but not for me. Yeah, that's Bob I was upset. Yeah, you got to think. Bob I was doing it with Nancy, so.
Starting point is 00:13:20 There are people listening to this podcast who have never heard of what did you have a lot of Bible is before? I don't know. It's so baffled and then they go go with it and they go, they're so horrified. Anyway, I mean charming. To see all these 30s and 40s comic strip characters doing it. Yeah. Like that big Wally Wood drawing, all the Disney characters are having sides to each other.
Starting point is 00:13:42 But anyway, so. Classic stuff. Look it up. So, uh, so he may, he's her husband for the day. They go see Darryl on the day. I thought it was a dark part of the movie. But he's, he's, he's said, and... What's the plot? We'll get through. It's being narrated by, uh, grown-up son as, in Tony,
Starting point is 00:13:59 Tony, Tony McGuire is doing the voice of the grown-up son narrating. Which is, as we've said before, a bad sign for a movie when you have somebody like telling you the story about what their mother taught them as a child. Yeah. Now, one day, they're in a store and the son and Henry is confronted by a man with a bloody shirt played by Josh Rollin' and he says, hey, can you help me? I need a ride. Your mom will give me a ride in a car, right?
Starting point is 00:14:23 And he is, it's weird. It's, the movie is going against for like, there's this some, an air of something dangerous about him. But instead, he just comes off as like, a really irritating house guest who won't leave. Like, he demands a ride home from them. Then he has to stay in their house for a couple hours, then till nightfall. Then he stays for a couple days. It's more like, it's more like a guy they keep doing favors for than a scary criminal. And in the early scenes, there's a lot of bass in the soundtrack, so you know there's something suspicious.
Starting point is 00:14:51 The music is carrying a heavy load in this movie, because there's a lot of slow nothing, and a lot of characters just kind of look at each other not doing much. Staring up the sky to where the bass ball went. Yeah. Or that first scene too. The music really is doing a lot of the work.
Starting point is 00:15:05 Roland doesn't like ever say explicitly like what the situation is not making like explicit threats or anything like it's all like like he's talking code the whole time. Yeah, which is and the soundtrack is telling us what's happening. Well, I mean, it's subtle and it wouldn't be bad if like the danger be unfolded like they didn't realize how deep they were getting until it was too late. But instead the music treats it like fucking Abel Magwitch just jumped at Pip and a graveyard right and demanded a saw and some vitals for you to struggle him. And also it's interesting. And yet some great expectations will come from that moment.
Starting point is 00:15:39 What larks? But it seems like it seems like Kate Wimbleboke can hear this soundtrack because she is reacting. She's like that music is scary. Yeah. This is a bad dude. Yeah. He should be in the video game, bad dude. It's shaving the president.
Starting point is 00:15:54 And not putting his hand on the back of my son's neck. Now is that the first prime the person has ever made Revenscreen expectations than bad dudes? But afterwards, maybe. I mean, Colkenis. We're gonna be your guys. Okay, let's do this for most of that reference. Yeah. then bad dudes but afterwards maybe I mean cold Guinness we're gonna be your guys let's do this for most that reference yeah
Starting point is 00:16:10 so he goes home and he's he escaped from it turns out he's a convent was escaped from jail by jumping out of a window he was hurt somehow and he's drinking got blood on his stomach
Starting point is 00:16:19 yeah he had a pain decided to get out of jail into the hospital and they he stays there for a while and to make a long story short, he and Kate Winslet almost immediately begin falling in love. Start falling down. And their romance, their wooing begins when he complements their home and ties her up so that she can sell police that she was tied up gently
Starting point is 00:16:42 and then feeds her some chili that he made. You make sure some chili and then teaches her and her son how to make pies. Yeah, well he is a master chef. He's got the master chef. He's literally a scene where he picks up a piece of food he made and then her eyes go open as if, you know, she's just seen God through his food.
Starting point is 00:17:02 She's tasted God. And that food is like, or that food is like like stimulating your Like there was no way of not going gross. I realized halfway through my thoughts So I just went no, but it should ever it's like the he goes from scary to turning her on almost instantly Yeah, and there's a so and this movie seesaw's back and for us Yeah, it movie seesaws back and forth between trying to make us tense and trying to show us passion So there's a scene where jk semins as the neighbor who is too many peaches shows up with a bad show sexy this jk shows up with a basket of peaches and
Starting point is 00:17:46 Josh rollin does want anyone to know that he's there so he like Threat he while the sun is talking to jg Simmons he has Kate Winslet and like an arm walk, you know in case he has to use her as a hostage or something happens and We're supposed to be it's supposed to be tense, but then immediately she's like we we'll never eat all these peaches in time and he goes, I've got an idea. And then there's what a 40-minute sequence where he shows them how to make a peach pie. He's supposed to make, like, first like JK Sim and shows up and he's like, you know, like, I've got a basket of ripe vagina metaphors. And like, then they're just like all like sticking their like hands and like these moist peaches
Starting point is 00:18:21 and like, it's supposed to be. Like a like water for chocolate, eat drink man with a type. Or like a Maria Pasta commercial. Yeah, except the sun is there also thinking of his peaches. And it's like getting up into those peaches. It's like fucking eat to my mom, Tambi. As if it wasn't already insesty enough
Starting point is 00:18:40 that he was her husband for a day. Yeah. So it's, anyway, things, they've become... 15 minutes later, what's the prize base? And meanwhile, they're having these, they're, these cut, these like very quick flashbacks, like the pawnbroker or something like that, where you just see images and you slowly pick up that Josh Rollin was a soldier who came back from the war and had a baby with his wife, that things didn't work out with his wife and eventually you learn that she was having a fair and she
Starting point is 00:19:09 revealed to him the baby wasn't his and he got mad and shoved her and of course she hit her head on the radio on the way down and died and then he ran upstairs and found that his wife had left the bathtub running in the baby's round. So I mean a pretty uplifting tale right in the middle of this romance fashion story. I mean it feels a little bit like they reach tragedy. But that they wrote this story, they're like, okay, so he's gonna be a murderer. How can we make him a murderer, but like still kind of a good guy?
Starting point is 00:19:34 Well, it's like Conair, where Nicholas Cage goes to jail for defending his pregnant wife. Yeah, in both cases, we have like a convict Jesus character, race play. Yeah, yeah. Well, Jesus was a convict. Oh, yeah. So T got the death penalty. But then he rose. Three days later, I got to Jesus character race. Yeah, yeah, well Jesus was a convict So he got the death penalty
Starting point is 00:19:46 But then he rose I mean it is later That's not something that's something I you lost me lost me on that part with the dark side It's fine. Do you want to burn in hell, but if you want to you know except the truth of God's believe in it God loves me so much He's gonna throw me to hell He's gonna throw me to hell He's gonna drag me to hell Because that's what happens to you with the movie Because we taught the we're Josh Brolin to slow Because here's a thing Kate wins that doesn't just fall in love with Josh Brolin for his primaking prowess and his sexy go T
Starting point is 00:20:19 It's because he is literally the best husband ever. Yeah, this is convict who's been there for a day He fixes me to he starts just doing chores because he is literally the best husband ever. This is his convict who's been there for a day. He fixes the... On day two, he starts just doing chores. He's like, he fixes their rock wall, he counts all their firewood and tells them they're being short-changed by the firewood guy. He fixes their car, he teaches Henry had a throw a baseball,
Starting point is 00:20:38 he cleans out the gutters, he does, it's like... He waxes the floors. He waxes the stall jig for a time that never really existed. They start and a friend of theirs, it comes over and forces them to babysit her disabled son. You may remember her from science of land is a great big fat girl. Well, the first two was supposed to rub lotion on your skin so she didn't give up. She's another movie still. Yeah, but that's her main thing. That's her main is role as lotion girl. As girl who was almost but not made into a dress. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:11 But they, but even like, and like, spoilers. The convict even loves this kid. He just hit me at a play baseball. Really, this, this, this kind of thing. Yeah, it's like what they need is to sweet out. They feel this kid and you're like, I think the movie music tries to make you feel like
Starting point is 00:21:26 Josh Brolin's totally just gonna snap his kids neck. Ha ha ha ha. Every, that's the thing, every scene, it's supposed to be super tense, like he's dangerous until he makes someone a meal or teaches a man to do something, he's gonna snap his kids neck and then we're like, whoa, so you're gonna sleep with this kid?
Starting point is 00:21:40 Plus that. And it's like, but are we so, we can't keep falling for the trap that this movie with things we're gonna fall for where it's like, but are we so we can't keep falling for the trap that this movie thinks we're gonna fall forward? It's like, oh, is he finally gonna snap this time? Oh no, he made them smores. Like, oh, maybe he's gonna strangle the whole family and burn the house tone.
Starting point is 00:21:55 No, he's reading them a bedtime story. Okay, this time, this time he's gonna go on a kill spree and murder 40 people and have sex with their bodies. Why did they make smores, by the way? Because they would have been a little too explicit. Like, oh no, he's setting up an animal shelter. A hotel for dogs. Okay, now, seriously, he's going to rob a bank, but it's going to go bad. He's going to have to shoot a pregnant lady.
Starting point is 00:22:18 Oh, no, he's putting together a parcel of canned foods for the homeless in Guatemala. But the thing about, like, can we talk just a moment about this kid that they babysit like this disabled kid? It's just a very also off-putting scene because they turn this kid's disability into like a suspense thing. Because he sees that when his mom comes to pick him up, the TV is on and they're constantly broadcasting this convict son of a loose. They show a picture of him and the kids like,
Starting point is 00:22:44 The time was on fire. Yeah, and the disabled kids are trying to say the name of the trying to point out to his mother that Frank, this man that he's met who is hiding right now, is the criminalist was Frank, Frank, Frank, and she says, stop it, stop. And then it just, it just you punch him. He slaps. He slaps him really hard. Watch television.
Starting point is 00:23:02 We go home and then shut up. And so it's this little glimpse of like, this horrible situation, this abusive mom is hit, is just routinely hitting her disabled child and then they mostly leave the movie. But it was like, okay, so the movie, the movie was where we weren't depressed enough. Let's add a little bit later, we get to do it.
Starting point is 00:23:21 We'll in some, just a press you move. Is there a way we could have Lars von Trier guess direct this scene? So, anyway, one thing turns to another end. So, was this game because by the way? Exactly. I was just thinking of that I think it's a lot involved in a bad taste that they named Josh Broles' character Frank. One of you can't even look like Frank, it's monster. He does a little bit, I guess, but like a cool sexy brand. I don't know how they made Frank and Stun and weren't like Josh Broin. Are you free?
Starting point is 00:23:52 Because you totally still look like, or Jay Broles. Come on. Jay Broles. I know you were going to Joe and Hicks too. Or, or, uh, Hicks here. Hat headed hand-herders. Part two. More hats, fewer hands. Man. He's a good actor. He's appeared as a bad thing. or uh... HECC-er Hat-headed hand-hurgers Part 2 More hats, fewer hands
Starting point is 00:24:07 He's a good actor, his appearance is a bad thing Yeah, I mean there's a lot of bad movies being made in Josh Rollin' and his other speed dial He's a work of actor, you know? Sure That's true Would you rather he'd be starving for his artistic principal, Stan? Yeah, you're right, I'm the real monster The era you are
Starting point is 00:24:22 Not Frankenstein's monster No, you are I mean the fact that you're a wolfman as part of it Like I just a little hairy never Ever since you were bitten by wolfman jack the DJ Anyway, one thing turns to another and Adele and Frank hey wins like I mean I think it's literally only one thing that's pretty much stuff That's true. This is a two hour movie where there's maybe enough material for like a 15-minute student short, but they fall in love and they decide they're going to run away to Canada where I guess he's going to get, I think they may have misunderstood how it's
Starting point is 00:24:53 like... To board the conduct draft. You know, they can't draft me to jail on in Canada. And... We've got no extradition with Canada. I don't think that's true. I think we actually do it. That's probably... We'll never catch us. We can only get through the border patrols. Actually, the longest unguarded border in the world. So. Hold on. You're going?
Starting point is 00:25:15 OK. I do you on. So let me know all the same time Henry starts going out with a girl. And it's the kind of girl that you see in the movies where she is's I guess manipulative and to is wise beyond her years and by wise I mean cynical and manipulative and she basically exists to sow the seeds of doubt in Henry's mind that this Frank character
Starting point is 00:25:37 has replaced him and his mother's affections. So early on I was all confused because the confused because the movie mixes in these flashbacks to like Josh Brolin's past. I think only Josh Brolin's past. Only Josh Brolin's past. But then it also uses very similar methods to show this kid having fantasies of this girl. Yeah. And it's a kind of strange choice for the movie to use the same style for both its fantasies and its flashbacks. Well, what is memory?
Starting point is 00:26:04 Well, it does? What a fantasy. We tell ourselves it was real. I mean, I mean, some of it's, you know, it's corroborated by multiple people. I mean, as some would say that fact and history have a way of merging into fiction and illusion. I believe it was Verrata that said. No, keep going. That there were big ants in the desert they liked to gold and had fur on them turned out that was amazing true why did you
Starting point is 00:26:31 leave that for that's what he said though you stop before we were getting to that do people ride on me and so are they no no no they're like the size of like a dog okay was this like from nuclear testing, like in the video? Yeah, it was from ancient Greek nuclear testing. It was about the male and the female ants, or were the females different like in China, in the Aagles, Pradoe does street stations. I don't remember. I think considering animals never existed in depth studies were never done. But anyway, it is strange that the, I guess it's a way of showing interior monologue visually.
Starting point is 00:27:05 But frankly, his, that the kids kind of sex flash fantasy was really the only part of the movie I liked because it... Alright, be fair. We saw a tube fleeting glimpses of some comic book covers from 1987 and an old crack magazine. The parts we liked were, he goes and looks at a spinner- rack of old comics and we're like, oh, we read those. I really were all DC books, which is not my wheelhouse. But then there's a part where it just pans across the street. Which is wrong because it's quite the right thing to move it.
Starting point is 00:27:34 Yeah, it should be Marvel books. But maybe they didn't want to get into the whole new universe thing that was happening around then. And every suddenly, everyone's just thinking about the behind thescenes conflicts that were going on at Marvel and underfill Shooter's leadership as editor-in-chief. You know, it's a whole can of worms that, that's- Back in the 15s?
Starting point is 00:27:52 No, in the 80s. Oh. It's a whole can of worms that Labor Day just doesn't have the time to open up. So they had DC, because it pans across this room and you see just the masked head of an issue of crack you don't even see the gallery of us are like oh crack crack so much
Starting point is 00:28:09 we talked about crack magazine for about six minutes but like his fantasy scene at least shows some there's like some interesting style and technique there and like a little bit of visual trickery it does it really get across what it is like for a young boy to fantasize about sex not really but I mean that would be it you would have to have that's rating for the To really get into this necessarily because of boys age doesn't really know exactly how sex works. It's true He's just interested in in his interest in it wants to do it. It is no what it is. Yeah Yeah, I mean at that age probably just just some breasts would do it. But like there's a shot of He read of an image that he saw really just the
Starting point is 00:28:50 Just just ran the Yeah Not even too early good ones just open a door to some breast Vired it heavy metal out at that point I think so it's probably what it's famous, but feeling. But he saw the girl in front of him in class, you could see through the back of her shirt, just the back of her bra strap. I remember as a kid, that was really exciting
Starting point is 00:29:12 to catch a glimpse of just the strap of a girl's bra. So that felt real to me in a way that the rest of the movie did not feel real at all, but what are you going to do? It's still not as good as the scene in the ball of cable hoag where he sees the girl girls cleavage and it just keeps flashing his mind, but anyway, so they want to leave but he starts worrying I guess that that they're gonna forget about him when they go to Canada together and at the same time those worries are almost immediately dissolved. Yeah and the mother
Starting point is 00:29:44 but the mother of the disabled kid comes by and runs into Frank and sees the strange man in the house. Henry leaves a note at Clark Gregg's house saying, like, I'm gonna go, but I'll be fine. So he gets suspicious. And one of these people, we don't know who calls... Did you mention the beak? Did we get into the beak? The beak? James Lowe, a big fan. And James Lowe shows up from one scene as a cop. Well, not all like he's also like a guy who may have gotten suspicious. We don't know. So there's a number of suspects who may have called the cops.
Starting point is 00:30:17 But the important thing is the cops arrive. And Josh Brolin, because he's, of course, a saint, doesn't want them to get in trouble for harbing a few troops who ties them up where tensy kidnapped them. He goes to jail. He gets ten years for escaping. 15 years for kidnapping. And we flash forward to the future. Oh, I forgot there's a scene at a bank that I'll tell you about, too, it's really stupid. We flash forward to the future and we find that the grown-up kid, Tom Rugglier, is now a baker. baker famous for the pies he makes in the style of the convict showed him.
Starting point is 00:30:47 The convicts... He's really much a problem, he thinks. Well, he didn't copyright that pie. Does it say copyright was scavenging convicts? By the way, I think that we joked about during the course of the movie, the idea of this kid would grow up to be a master baker. It became true with the Englishman. As opposed to the master baker, he was as a kid. Boom.
Starting point is 00:31:03 You got burned, kid. You got burned. That fictional kid. Yup, he was as a kid. Boom. You got burned kid. You got burned. That fictional kid. Yep, he got burned. He got roasted. So anyway, he looks like a young Alan Rock. I do. He looks like he looks like the Rope De Allen Rocks someday.
Starting point is 00:31:15 It's not terrible. No, good browns from City, Cameron, and first beehler. Was that a really good episode of Justified? Oh my god, yeah. What does he do? He's the dentist, right? Yeah. Yeah. What does he do now? I mean, he invented the rucksack.
Starting point is 00:31:29 He invented the rucksack, so he's rich. Oh, is that acting as just a sly line of that sly thing? He invented a limp's, limp's roll, Eric calls the ruck and rollers. And of course, there's ruck rocks. Which is just rocks he found that he'll mail to you for like a hundred bucks. The irony is he can't carry all of his riches in one of his patent and Rucksack. Yeah, they're too small, too small. Although legend tells of Alan
Starting point is 00:31:51 Rucks original Rucksack that it in fact was a door to a pocket dimension and had no limits. Anything could be stored in it. And he used it on as many adventures out with death and various witches. He used it on as many adventures out with death and various witches. Well, point is, he's lived in amazing life. Many are the myths and legends of Alan Rugg from how he won the Rural Cameron in a card game with God to how his years on Spin City were spent while also being the King of the L's. Sure. He was just a stand in king of the elves for a little bit of time.
Starting point is 00:32:29 Until the elf prince came of age, that elf prince's name, Matthew Broderick. Yep. He followed his father Obron to the other prince. His father Obron rock. Oh, broderock. Yeah, oh yeah Matthew Broderock. Oh yeah, their brother.. See you know that. Yeah, Alan Ruck is half-elf. He's so proud of me. He's brother. In the elephant tongue, brother, yeah, means brother.
Starting point is 00:32:57 He'll met my wife, bro. He is blossom. Meaty, rock. Mustard. Oh, there's that time of course, when Alonro Ted was replaced with that of an ass. Yes, the tails. I guess I guess it for hours. Smitting tails of Alonrock and his many quests. The many in maintenance he bedded and villains he foiled, the gold he found, the bedlin' and his soiled, the years he toiled, the seas that roiled, the girls he goiled, and of course, and of course, and of course, Agent Coulson. I already know, and a battlemate of Alan Ruck. And side by side, they fought, I guess, like, the Red Skull and the King of the Norns.
Starting point is 00:33:57 Oh, Alan Ruck. I would love, if this started an internet meeting on the level of the check notice me Is that folk here? He's like a munchow. He's a fairy tale hero. I heard it was Alan Rugg who killed the big bad wolf. Sure. And free little red writing rug.
Starting point is 00:34:22 Uh, the tales Alan R Riding that Cannonball. The reason why the moon hides its face was the time it's for the shame that Alan Ruck gave it, when betting the wife of the moon killing him. And that's why the castles and chests are called Rikes. Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha Why I'm mounted is made of little rucks. They say he bore a child with a bear, Teddy Rucks' fin. And so a bear that could speak English as if as this man or woman roams the earth with his caterpillar bread. The caterpillar is not the child about on Rucks.
Starting point is 00:35:03 And of course, who can forget Robin Hood's faithful sidekick, Friar Ruck? The name was corrupted over the years into a tuck, as of course was the basis of the book Ruck Everlasting. And might I say, Ruck Norris, father of Chuck Norris. He's so too diligently looking for a new thing. In fact, in some counties, Ireland, they still say, good luck to you. And they should be surprised. To be surprised is still to have the Ruck folder
Starting point is 00:35:42 from under you. For Alan Ruck, a allowed old men to stand on him when crossing muddy streams He would roll aside thrusting the old grandfather's into the mud as to have a hearty chuckle. Oh, he was a charming rogue So what do we do about labor? Oh boy. So what were we talking about? Labor Ruck? Yeah. Oh man.
Starting point is 00:36:06 We're talking about the legend of Ruck Ulysse. We could talk about Ruck Tales, till the cows came home. Ruck Tales, oh, woo. Might solve a mystery, maybe Ruck History. Ruck Ulysse, which are all labors of Ruck Ulysse. Yeah. What are the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the names of the say, keep on rockin'. Words in the free world. Certainly do sound like a good word. Keep on rockin' in the free world indeed. Sure do.
Starting point is 00:36:49 So anyway, long story short, Josh Rollin' goes to jail. He sees, years later, he sees an amazing article I guess in like, Pi Monthly about Toby and Wires' Pi. Yeah, he literally says something like, that's like, I saw him on the phone with my older Pi.
Starting point is 00:37:03 Yeah. I know that pie. He writes in to me a wire says, can I see your mom sometime? I get a belongs to a pie guy. You get from super rare brothers. A pie guy meets my eye. So you know, your pie struck my eye like a big pizza pie.
Starting point is 00:37:20 And I thought, I want a more a with your mom when and yield something something A tiny bit of old age makeup as Josh roll and United with cave as old people and thus the story comes to its conclusion a Lay and he literally says in his letter, you may remember I spent a labor day weekend with you once. So we get to know, like the kid is like,
Starting point is 00:37:51 oh yeah, I forgot that time, a convict. You know, I wasn't sure which convict you were that came over and my mom fell in love with you. But you know what, it was you. You had a beard right? That was that year. Talked me about pies? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:04 You can't look at a young Tommy Lee Jones You know when I did it came up during the movie was TV show called the young Tommy Lee Jones Chronicles Which would be him mostly I guess going to Harvard and you got me a young actor Hearing in the executioner's song and the park is mine And that cheerleading movie, right? Man of the house. Man of the house, man. Man of the house, man.
Starting point is 00:38:32 How's the house money? So that's Labor Day. It's a... I wasn't going to Pygros. I will say this. I give Jason Ramin credit for trying something different. I take away that credit for him. It's a movie that confuses slowness and quietness with seriousness and emotion. And it confuses characters looking at each other with characters feeling.
Starting point is 00:38:57 Well, that's like we, you know, we've found so many tales of rock that we've probably said that. Oh, and yet there are so more to behold. There a thousand one a rookie in nice. There's a lot of shots in this movie that kind of remind me of shots from Trim life, man of steel Okay, where it's like But that's a good thing. It's all ripped off tears. My not but it's the idea of like imparting seriousness on bullshit where it's like Josh Rollins two-tune, they make a pie or some other kind of food and you'll like pick up a knife and then it'll slow my one the night while
Starting point is 00:39:31 you reaches around King Winslet sexually. Yeah, I guess, yeah, it's like they're trying for a tarantum-like feel. So a tarantum-like to make movies, they're about kind of humanities place in the universe and how people emotionally connect to each other whereas this is just about like a prisoner who teaches a family have make pies. Yeah, this guy with a go-t is a bad guy. Where is he not a bad guy? Oh, you shaved off his go-t is a good guy now. Yeah, well that's the thing is I wish they had made up someone who really had a past he was a shame book.
Starting point is 00:40:00 Like who had done something bad. It was a bad man. No, no name to done something bad. It was a bad man And that's bad, but it is but it is but it is still they made it so that it was an accident He pushed her but he didn't mean to do it. He's not responsible for these a cuckold so everybody can identify Exactly all of us have been cuckold except me or Ruckled because Alan Ruck danced from bed to bed, they said. There was many, there was many of village where all the children born in one generation had the tell tale eyes of Alan Ruck. The tales of the rock music.
Starting point is 00:40:33 No, that's a, in fact, they would, I was going to make a Ruck YouTube. But anyway, but it's they, this I would rather see in a movie where, where, mother, I go, with this man caught a glimpse of the life that he wished he had, but because of his own actions and he knows this, it is closed off to him. And he thought for a moment he might have a family, but instead he's doing himself.
Starting point is 00:40:55 But instead it was all people caught in circumstances. And basically a harlocking run. Yeah, well that's what I think we can kind of... sexy, primate, can come back. Kind of skip final judgments where we say whether it's a good bad movie, a bad bad movie or movie kind of liked I think we all feel like it's a bad bad movie. It's not terrible but what I would say about it is like I'm not sure why as you say they took a hard work in romance and just decided like oh let's throw a couple a list actors at this. Because this is just, I mean, like the style and the content of it is so much just like,
Starting point is 00:41:32 sort of a bored fantasy of like a kind of a dangerous man comes into this woman's life and fulfills all of her needs, both sexual and chores wise. And chores around the house. Oh, that's something like, even before he shows up, they kind of introduce the characters at the house. And the whole time, we're like, well, that needs fixing. He's going to fix that. Yes, they'll take care of that one.
Starting point is 00:41:55 There's also a bunch of very hand-handed attempts to suspend such as when Kate wins that her son goes to take all their money out of the bank. And every one of the bank immediately suspects them of something but they don't know what until the sun breaks the attention by making a joke of their actual plan to run for the border like criminals because earlier Josh early to live mass earlier Josh Brolin told the told him that it's easier to mislead people with the truth but it's like the characters have to fake that they're really nervous and the bank teller has to fake that she's really weirded out by what's happening and it's this suspense is very important.
Starting point is 00:42:34 We're also in a town where everybody is super interested in everybody else. It's a small town. I guess soon they're like, hey, should we be start school tomorrow? Should we be start school two weeks? Yeah. Demis, the point that on the first day of school, that's insane. Um... Your teeth need to learn.
Starting point is 00:42:51 Let's just, uh, move on. So bad, bad, final judgments. Now, what do we do now, Dan? Move along in two letters. Letters from listeners to put a listeners to the podcast. Let's do some of the podcasts, right? Listeners of the podcast, send us some letters. Devoted listeners, not any of you fair-weather fans. Let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, let's see, and put them into words that arrange the words in two sentences. Don't forget the song on your letter.
Starting point is 00:43:26 With your name or someone else's, if you're trying to frame them, frame them with the name, name them with the frame, there's a lot of things that have been covered in this song. Then we'll frame your letter. OK. Yeah, we frame every letter we get. These keys.
Starting point is 00:43:41 We use e-frames, the digital frames that you put on e-maps. Yeah, sure. This spike you put on eMass. Yeah, sure. This pie-gast pops by eFrames. The company that doesn't exist, I think. The product that doesn't make sense. So, this first letter, why was it a frame to make electronic? Stan's family in frames. Like this.
Starting point is 00:44:00 Hello, Flop House. I'm only 12 years old, but I listen to your podcast. That is not a real experience. That's terrible. I'm only 12 years old, but I listen to your podcast. That is not a great Mom, what's a tarp for soon? I'm only 12 so I don't have a remark about a reference in some episode Wow, he's really leaning on this the fact that he's 12 Well, yeah, he's 12 thanks were right in them. My favorite flopper is stew or the future Thank you for writing in them. My favorite flopper is Stuart. Yeah, you're the future.
Starting point is 00:44:26 Because he's a totally red dude. But Ellie and Dan have a tie for seconds. Oh thanks. You're a podcast. Who's excellent. And I will keep on listening. Thank you. I'll love you.
Starting point is 00:44:38 Keep on flopping from Connor last name with him. Thanks Connor, that was very nice. Yeah, I do think that maybe your parents should keep a close for our eye on what you listen to But either your parents listen to the award on your My I Watched it's even off the streets, you know, I watched so many already movies as a kid as I
Starting point is 00:45:01 Parents lost a fair style of parenting and And look, I turned that okay. Yeah, mostly. I mean, you're kind of a pervazoi. But otherwise, no, I have the number one. You're going to be super proud. Your parents are very proud. Your mom is always like, did you hear about my son? The number one pervazoi?
Starting point is 00:45:18 Yeah, we saw the mom stay here with you at your car. Yeah, your mom is natural. Yeah, the students as my son is a bourgeoisie is an honest bourgeoisie My other car is a son Yeah, but I yeah when I was 12 I was listening and watching to and reading so many things Thanks, I was a cherry This next letter during the after-earth discussion, you lamented that there were no quality butcentric science
Starting point is 00:45:48 fiction narratives outside of the foreign parades. Did we do that? I guess we did. Well, I'm here to tell you. This is a double idea. Was we just told a butt shot to the little kid? No. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:46:02 It's possible. Well, I'm here to tell you that you are wrong. Robert Heinz, Robert Heinz, the butt is a harsh misunderstanding. Robert Heinz, loins, stranger to strange blood. When I was a young man, I was like, Assamob's foundation in a butt. Ray Buttery, anyway. Arthur C. Cracks, 2001 about Odyssey. The three laws of robutry. One but cannot harm a human. It was really an action to allow you to come to our, too, a but must do with every human
Starting point is 00:46:34 tells it unless it conflicts with the first rule. And three, a but must save it was preserve its own life unless it conflicts with the first rule. Three but must be sexy. No, he says, without his young man, and the mids. I believed in silly things. When the midst of middle school summer reading,
Starting point is 00:46:52 shopping, I happened to find a book that would change my life forever. The title of this historic Tom US, why it's the day my butt went side-joke. No, I know that book. The winzigle tale of a young man whose posterior has run amok. Having attached itself from our hair of the titular romp has brought it upon itself. That's what you learn.
Starting point is 00:47:11 It's me, the revolt of the world's butts. This is barely scratching the surface. As the forward of the book puts it, this book is full of just disobedient butts, runaway butts, psycho butts, combat-causing butts, exploding butts, cluster butts, nuclear butts, giant unwiped butts, butt rallies, butt catchers, butt fighters, butt hunters, butt guns, explosive butt commutes. I'm failed to see how this is speculative fiction
Starting point is 00:47:36 that either predicts where technology is going and comments on our social relationships through the metaphor of a future or other world. Well, as a young pre-teen, this was the funniest piece of literature I had ever read. And even now as an adult, with a preteen sense of humor, I still find a good chuckle from it now and again. I highly recommend to read if only out of curiosity. Thanks for the laughs and keep it the good work. Yours are floppage. Nick the last man with hell.
Starting point is 00:47:59 Thanks Nick. Again, I don't know if it really fits in the SF genre. No, but I appreciate you keeping me up to date on Glideist or the oldest and but news sure all about their cool too right I guess me as long as they're tuned all right we're gonna do a weird jack lane's butt yeah that man blah blah boom so this next letter my darling peaches as I made my way I Was delighted by an offhand comet Elliot made in the happiest millionar episode He mentioned another 1960s live action Disney film the ugly Dawson and
Starting point is 00:48:42 The short to the floppers to write in if we'd seen this classic. I am answering that clarin call. Hell yes, I've seen it. The premise is a hilarious mix of up, which involves the nagging true of a wife bringing her doxon to the vet to have a litter of puppies. The vet is a kindly old dude who takes pity on the oefish put upon husband by sneaking a great dainn puppy into the litter so the man will be stuck with a terrible wife and a house full of ankle Biter's will have a proper dog is very young.
Starting point is 00:49:10 I'm going to take the issue with the terms hilarious and Dean. And no point does the wife say, wow look there's a great dain in this litter of doxins everyone just accepts that this giant dog named Brutus is a dog. Doxin have a marmaduc. The Agni-Docsin has it all. Multiple scenes of canine antics in which the mischievous doxins make a huge mess and pit it on poor, sweet Brutus. 1960's Disney casual asian racism. A big dog show finale. Actually, I think that's it. But what else do you need?
Starting point is 00:49:42 There's a scene where an asian caterer mistakes Brwed us the great dain for a line runs around a party screaming Ryan Ryan You know, and their terrified state destroys a pakota. This was my favorite movie as a child A pakota? Oh pakota And Abe pakota Yeah, Abe pakota. The Japanese six hundred Abe pakota Damn, at this point, I don't even like a Viel Picata. Dan at this point, I would like to give you an appreciative shout out for being so steadfast
Starting point is 00:50:09 amid all the chaos of your adorable co-hosts. I can only assume that you are the next juice that grows. So I can only assume. I can only assume Ellie. Dr. Klerst from the plan of the AIDS movies. I can only assume Ellie and Stuart have interrupted you several times by now. Well, we wouldn't if he didn't if he said words properly. I've talked so quickly because I'm trying to keep from being around. It's a violent cycle. Yeah, and by now you've handled it graciously truly making you the brewedest the Great Dane to Ellie and Seward's pack of devious toxins. You all the best, Tessa and Lassney, with that big stuff.
Starting point is 00:50:45 Thanks for writing in Tessa. That's so nice of you. Again, I mean, it's not as advertised as my interest in butts, but I'm also interested in Doxon news. Really? Not really. But because I've only ever heard you talk about butts. But I've never heard you talk about doxon news.
Starting point is 00:51:01 When it comes to stupid Disney live action films in the 60s definitely. Oh sure, okay. I love that. So send in that news, yeah. Be boy. So if you have any ideas, anything about the nine lives of Tom Ascina, anything about the million dollar duck, anything you got there.
Starting point is 00:51:18 But moving on. The computer war dog shoes. Pardon me. I will not. The next letter. You know, you go into the chair. You will not. The next letter. You should go into the chair. You will not receive a party. It seems inevitable that a Black Friday centered movie will make it in the near future. Well, the movie Friday.
Starting point is 00:51:36 Well, if I may not know. Okay. The holiday, Black Friday. We made it in the near future. My question. We're going to have a Gary Marshall movie Black Friday. I made it in the near future. My question was a Gary Marshall movie Black Friday about people shouting. Oh, I thought it was like, nevermind, I'm interested. This writer's question is, what will happen first? A Black Friday horror film in the style of the purge or a wacky Black Friday holiday movie
Starting point is 00:51:59 Christmas with the crank style, which comes first, how do you cast it? Thanks dudes and keep on flopping in the free world into 2014 and beyond, this is old. Dash, last thing with the former contest winner, Dash. I remember Dash, let's hear from you again. So if it's a horror, if it's like a futuristic sci-fi horror movie, clearly it's like the running. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:22 It's cool characters like Buzzsaw, Fireball, Dynamite, Buzzball, Firemo, and of course, Rockman. What? With Fireball forever winner. The Rockman. That's why it's called the Rockman because he was their only winner ever. I think it would be a comedy because you have all these different storylines and they're all going to the same story at the same item. Well, I mean, the movie is clearly going to be sponsored by Walmart. Some kind of top. Some kind of a style.
Starting point is 00:52:52 It's going to be an internship situation like where the Google is behind it. Yeah, unless it's like a found-footed char movie about people being stampeded to death as other people try to get $10 DVD players. I mean, $10 to watch a DVD. It's a good deal. It's a good deal. I mean, even that's a digital versatile. It's so versatile. It's so digital. You can use it as a frisbee. You put your file on it. It's very versatile. I'm probably going to answer the question as
Starting point is 00:53:22 a player for the chapter titles for point break So but I who would you cast in your regulars your hectarellis andro you're ashton kuch me Yeah Of course owl magical and a small role Uh, Bradlyn Whoopsie. Yeah. I don't even know. Just real Albert. You're sure, Elaine McCrains.
Starting point is 00:53:56 You're willing to all sorts. I'm like this. Winston-like, uh, I have, of course. You're Susan Saran're in the round wraps. It's been a refract magazine. Your Hanky Berry is. And of course, your Alan Rucks.
Starting point is 00:54:20 We have a really short last letter before I move on to the scary ones. Hey guys, I ate mushrooms one weekend for the first time. Somehow ended up listening to your show for the first time. That's a lot. In a road with it. A long, slow, weird story short. I ended up listening to half of your catalog that night. The reason I'm emailing is because it didn't stop there.
Starting point is 00:54:44 For the next two weeks, every movie I watched was narrated by the flop caps. It was awesome. I don't only feel like I know you guys, but that there's a psychedelic bond, especially with Elliot. Dude, you rock. Travis, last name with Elliot. Thanks, Travis. It's really nice. The least likely one of us to do mushrooms is the one that I already do not trust my perception of reality. I'm not going to make it any that I already do not trust my perception of reality I'm not gonna make it any weirder yeah the number of times I think there's a thing behind me only to turn around and find there's nothing there you're gonna want to make that more saying that you always feel like somebody's watching you yeah exactly or like I'm like the hero of the Iron
Starting point is 00:55:19 Maid song Fear of the Dark but you know, if anyone else is easy hero, right? Yeah, he's the good guy. He counters over the dark. There's the white hat. I feel like if anyone else has any flat house related drug hallucinations, I would love to hear it. Sure, yeah. But now, we need to move on to the final segment where we
Starting point is 00:55:41 recommend final segment to the end of the night. This segment is final. Finish it. Flows victory. Beballity. Why are you doing it right away? Reaching the bits of it. We haven't heard of it for a while.
Starting point is 00:55:54 Yeah. We are. Is playing it. Around. I was scared. Uh-oh. So. So.
Starting point is 00:56:02 R.O.C. came to the same center. So anyway. Is this the last episode? No, no. It could be.O.C.K. and the other side, etc. So anyway, it's just the last episode. I don't know. It could be. If we're all hit by a bus tomorrow. So movies that we want to recommend that we enjoy it. I'll kick it off.
Starting point is 00:56:15 This one we recommend movies we didn't dislike. Yeah. Or to put it another way, movies we liked. Oh, just. When I was, Yeah. Life was so wonderful. When I was on vacation, I was in a hotel in London. I turned on the television. They call it tele there. After Teletelice of all,
Starting point is 00:56:38 the inventor of the television. What did my wondering eyes did appear, but the crazies remain. I'm wondering eyes did appear, but the crazy's remain. And I want to recommend... Josh, do you want my own? No, Timothy O'Allef, I'm a presented, but... Timothy's elephant. I want to recommend actually both versions of the crazy, both versions of the crazy. I think that the first version of the crazy, now...
Starting point is 00:57:01 Which stars my friend Natalie said. Really? Yeah. If you don't know the crazy's, it's basically George Romero remaking his zombie movie but it's a movie about like an evil like a military agent like an agent orange style agent Colson that is improperly disposed in this small town. Like returning to what we've done. And guess what people go? They go crazy.
Starting point is 00:57:29 Yeah. And they start killing each other. And it's an interesting movie in a couple of ways. I feel like not only living dead, the original, there's a lot of talk about George Romero talks about how he didn't really intend necessarily for it to be making a big societal point. It was just the fact that there was colorblind casting of the main role that it
Starting point is 00:57:50 took on this extra element, but the crazies... He intended to just be the follow to his hit film Romero and Julia. Right. Well the crazies seem to be much more explicit taking on of the Vietnam War through a horror movie. So it's interesting in that it's Romero reacting to his previous film in that way. But also I was thinking about it. The crazies was Romero started the whole modern zombie film. He birthed that. But he also with the crazies, he also with the crazy Zeus. He anticipated where the zombie film eventually would go with his idea of like zombies as something that's created by this this this this virulent agent, this like some sort of disease some umbrella war.
Starting point is 00:58:41 Yeah, I mean like he basically invented the revisionist zombie movie himself later on Which is kind of an interesting thing but think about And it's not as good as neither woman dead, but it's a lot of fun if you like a George Romero horror movie and the remake is a Suppressive good modern horror movie And it does not have my friend Nedley's dad does not have Wilma millenium But I love just do no no it's got Timothy all of mom's And it does not have my friend Nedley's death. It does not. It does not have Will McMillan in it. But I love Josh Doohmel. No, it's got Timothy Allafont.
Starting point is 00:59:08 It's Timothy Allafont. It's like a crazy version of Josh Doohmel. It's a rich man's version of Josh Doohmel, which is ironic, because Josh Doohmel played a character named Danny McCoy. I don't think that's everyone. I don't understand. I don't understand. I don't understand. Popular TVS rerun show. Lost thing. Anyway, the point is, I pretty much like, I don't think that's ever wrong. I don't understand the article. Popular TVS rerun show.
Starting point is 00:59:27 Lost thing. Anyway, the point is, I pretty much like Timothy Allefon and anything. Guys, a good actor. He is. He's handsome. Very charming. I like him a lot.
Starting point is 00:59:35 So, see you in the middle of the night. Like him is just a bit scary. Justified. And also, deadwood. Both the old and the new ones. He's not deadwood. I'll have to see the new one. I like the new one.
Starting point is 00:59:47 I haven't seen that one. So what do you guys got? So what's the go? Let's do it. You want to go first? Sure I'll go. I'm going to recommend a movie. I don't think you guys have recommended it yet.
Starting point is 00:59:57 And it's a movie that by the time you're listening, this will probably be out of theaters, which is too bad, because it was really good. I'm going to recommend Egypt tomorrow. A movie that there's been a number of think pieces. It's got a lot of positive reviews on the internet. A lot of stink pieces. It's not a lot, I can say, other than that.
Starting point is 01:00:12 It's amazing. If you haven't seen it yet, you should really give it a shot. The marketing campaign was not particularly great. It was particularly terrible. Yeah, I'm looking at a poster right now that says the tagline for Egypt tomorrow is Live on the edge They did their best. I like mountain dew or
Starting point is 01:00:29 They did their best pizza flavored snack. Did their best for this at campaign to make it appear as generic and Oblivion as possible And I feel like at this point and not fantastic for oblivion No, no, it was great. I'll tell you see that that's part of the thing is that I feel like at this point a lot of movies even though Tom Cruise is great in it and he's great in a number of movies a lot of times people don't want to see Tom Cruise because of Tom Cruise for a certain, but that forgets the fact that he is a very talented movie star. Exactly. And he uses his movie star in a way to play in this movie He's funny he knows his persona unsprined so well now and he could use it as a tool
Starting point is 01:01:11 Yeah, some dude that performances in an interesting way and he only blot to the mission is amazing So totally don't go see Lindsay go see this I mean don't go see Lucy Lucy Lucy Lucy Lucy continues to pass on the myth that he's only 10% of their brain Just you use 10% of your I don't know money in your pocket I can't see Lucy but you can do that but you've already seen it too far I've seen Lucy. So I get a haul pass for that guy? You've got a haul pass. We don't come back sticking loose. Better watch that shit off. Lucy is basically just your burrito. It's just. That's a reference to that.
Starting point is 01:01:53 The dirt, the mileager, but yeah, story. It's nice. What he does. Okay. I love the idea. So you live out of the ass. There was nothing less extreme. Fucking a burrito that was was gonna take the owner of another woman's other women
Starting point is 01:02:11 that would be as Yeah, bits and pieces because what I've been blown up Would they have sex in a battlefield? I feel like I was a little too gynecological earlier in the podcast the podcast. It's too late. The 12 year old has heard it all. Elliot. I'd like to recommend two movies, but real quick. One is a big budget movie that's in the theaters now, which is called Dom of the Planet of the Apes, and it is the second of the new plan of the Apes movies. And I thought it was really great. If anything, I'd
Starting point is 01:02:40 like to live it more than the last plan of the Apes movie, which also that was really good. So you'd say wake up to this dog I would I would say there's a scene where an ape on horseback Wheeling a machine gun jumps through a wall of fire and it was that but that point I realized this is why movies were invented That image justifies the entire history of film and all the billions upon billions of dollars that have been poured into this art form It's like the image your mind created when watching 2001 and the apes standing in front of that avalanche, right? Holding the bone. I mean that's a big image too. Something that bones. I was like this need some shingun or worse and some fucking fire.
Starting point is 01:03:17 And the other movie I like to write men. I'm a big fan of Steve Cougain's show I'm Al Partridge and the al parterge carol you are so far so i just recently watched finally the movie al and partridge alphapapa came out last year i guess or i think i think really is it just called out alphaparings i think that netflix is listed as alphapapa which is the u.k. title it's not a good title but i found it to be really funny and it's not the most amazing movie, but like for considering it's the only comedy that's new that I've seen in a while
Starting point is 01:03:51 where I was like consistently laughing and a lot of it is just because Steve Googne is so funny in that character and he has a lot of great lines and they don't go too big with the story. Like it's not Alan Partridge solving a murder mystery. It's not him on a big adventure. His bag doesn't get mixed up with a spies bag and he's on the run. Like, it's a pretty small-scale story, but done with a lot of humor and a little bit of art.
Starting point is 01:04:17 Well, I read a review where they might have been over at the dissolve or they made a good point where they're just saying that it's an interesting movie too the dissolve or the made a good point where we're just saying that It's an interesting movie too because they're putting a character who is Resolutely self-interested in a position where it has to be like at least a little bit of a hero So that makes for a good comedic A bit of a conflict but he is his still is the end. Just are constantly getting a living doing it grow He's still an asshole. Yeah, and hey, who's that miles of Ryan from Star Trek the next generation deep
Starting point is 01:04:47 space mountain nine is he in it yes he is no miles runs the character calm me real quick I'm gonna jump in I want to make a second second recognize you all right I'm pressing this is there's nothing in the rule book that says he can I just want to know here is Nothing the rule this is a dog can't record movie I Want to recommend your dog I would recommend what I would consider to be a great bad movie a movie that is the type of movie that I wish Every time we sit down for movies flop as part of your heart. Yeah and we sit down for a week's flop-out spot. Deep in your heart.
Starting point is 01:05:24 Yeah, you're right, man. Last weekend, I participated in a flop-out Facebook group watch where members of the group are on the Facebook page, watch movie, and we watched Double Dragon, which is a makeshink. So if you haven't seen Double Dragon, it's on Netflix, watch it, it is a makeshink. I stopped.
Starting point is 01:05:43 The Patrick is insane. I stopped by Stewart's apartment. My name is finishing watching this. That's right, we hang out in real life, jealous. And it's pretty crazy. So yeah, if you have enjoyed in our Facebook group, it's fine. If you want to see some of the zany's or other fucking sex spot.
Starting point is 01:06:00 Yeah, take that Ray Bane because this is what I'm saying. Wait, wait, wait, if you're a sex spot, feel free to join. That's why our sex spot. That's why our sex spot. That's why our sex spot. That's why our sex spot. Yeah, take that Raybaen because this is what I'm talking about. Wait, wait, wait, if you're a sex pod, feel free to join. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen.
Starting point is 01:06:09 That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen.
Starting point is 01:06:17 That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen.
Starting point is 01:06:25 That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Raybaen. That's why I'm like Rayba group grows larger, it grows more like the internet at large. It's a harassing anybody harass me. Yeah. Stewart can take it. As Kurt Vonnegut once said, be nice on the flop house Facebook page. But those are some cats. Great. Yeah. yeah. And the silver spoon, blood blood, etc. Great.
Starting point is 01:06:46 When you've done them, I'm having a hot Stewart. I don't know when. Well, let's get together then. It's a great recommendation. Ugly Gidjo. Yeah. But now we need to... Last, ugly Gidjo.
Starting point is 01:06:55 So... We need to sign off. So we can gather around Elliot's feet and listen to more tales of rock. Oh, yes children. Gather ye round, gather he round gather he round For now the story of how Ruck deceived the Baba Yaga and won the rights to the chicken leg house and Turned it into condos and won the rights the movie boat trip Only to lose them in an arm wrestling match with the giant
Starting point is 01:07:24 But before we... The moral of the story is... Ruck happens. We'll take that story off air. In the meantime, I've been Dan McCoy. I've been steward, well in town. And I will continue to be Elliot Kaelin as long as I can help it. And I night everyone. What's your drink in there again?
Starting point is 01:07:48 The lips, the tip of the tongue. Just a hamburger, you're sweating. Oh, and a bag. Wait, that's your vocal warm-up? Yeah, I'd gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.
