Starting point is 00:00:00 Tonight on the flop house, we of perfect stranger courtesy of Wikipedia. The film opens with reporter Ravina Price, Halle Berry, and researcher Miles Giovanni Rabizi, going after a conservative senator who has been having sexual encounters with his male interns. Ruinite confronts the senator and records audio evidence. However, the story shut down when the source clams up shortly thereafter, and Ruinite's editor puts a stop to the story. Disgusted, Ruinite quits her job.
Starting point is 00:01:01 While walking home, she meets her childhood friend Grace, who seeks her help in taking down Harrison Hill, Bruce Willis, a wealthy businessman. Grace gives her emails as proof of their extramarital affair, which he recently ended. A few days later, Grace is found dead, leading Rowena to suspect Harrison. With Miles' help, Rowena goes undercover as a temp at his company. She flirts with Harrison, both online and in real life, but he catches her snooping and fires her, believing her to be a corporate spy. At Miles' supportment, Rolina discovers a shrine to herself and explicit pictures of Miles and Grace. Miles arrives home and they have a falling out.
Starting point is 00:01:38 Rolina goes to the police with evidence she and Miles uncovered who rest Harrison for the murder of Grace. What happens next is Bruce Willis the murderer or is there a shocking twist ending that Simon is sure to hate? Let's join the others in the flop house. I love him to the flop house tonight Mm-hmm or in the morning depending on when you're listening. My name is Dan. Could be after noon, too Sure, yeah, and my name's Stuart Wellington. My name's Simon. Could be after noon too. Sure. Yeah, and my name's Stuart Wellington. My name's Simon Fisher.
Starting point is 00:02:07 So perfect stranger. So this movie starred Bruce Willis. It did. It was a movie. And Halle Berry. And Giovanni Rubici. And it was about the internet. So was this movie made in 1992?
Starting point is 00:02:21 It feels like a script. Someone wrote this script. And like the internet quote-unquote first take because so much of it is like based on like a well-chat room shit it feels like someone wrote this and it's been like kicking around different studios for like last what fucking this point like almost like 12 15 years right well this belongs to that school of thriller which is a bunch of creepy stuff happens online huh I mean because, because it's all based around online.
Starting point is 00:02:49 It's specifically romantic instant message style hookups, but as you point out, it appears to occur in AOL chat rooms. Now, I remember now, I can vividly remember being in about, I want to say sixth grade, okay, and I can be absolutely certain, but I vividly remember hanging in about I want to say sixth grade okay and I can be absolutely certain I vividly remember hanging out with a friend it was one of the first people I knew that had the internet and It was fucking the only thing to do on the internet was able chat rooms and this would have been almost 20 years ago So you're logging in you're like any other horny 13-year-old pretty much you would literally like be like hey, let's look at all the different chat room like headings
Starting point is 00:03:26 And they're all ultimately the same like they would be like, oh this one's for I don't know role playing or this one's for like Combo, we're gonna do this or whatever, but it all ended up being the same thing Just a bunch of I don't know like 13-year-old fuckers being like, hey, what's up? Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck Friends less comedy, hellyberry is a reporter. Yes, and Giovanni Rebusy appears to be in some sort of reporter support The thing about Giovanni Rebusy's characters is that he wears a lot of hats Throughout the movie like he's a friend. He's you know an unrequited lover. He's Some other shit. See I thought actually he's a victim. That's the thing For a second I thought you meant that he literally wore a lot of Barry
Starting point is 00:04:31 Harry Like stew in your any hats you were thinking of Holly Barry's She wore a bunch of Johnny caps through the entire film Also a weirdly that's the word not a possible one's out of time Oh and an anachronistic sort of touch. I don't know, ladies these days seem to like hats. Yeah, but not like sort of a cutter. As I believe the name is, they're sort of like
Starting point is 00:04:54 country squire. Cheese cutter. They're gonna be a fox hunting sort of all the cheese caps. But the point I was gonna make was that jeep on a breezy is sort of the Jimmy Olson character. Let's say. Yeah, but imagine in the 90s, or I guess, 2000 plus lights, kind of bad at two.
Starting point is 00:05:12 You know, he seems to drink a lot, like he does some hard living. Yeah, they all hang out at the bar, Shumles together. Yep, Shumles, which is somewhere on the west side. You can check it out if you live in New York. New really Christopher Street stuff. Shumles check it out. They wanna take down Bruce Willis.
Starting point is 00:05:26 They wanna take them down. They wanna do a sting. Dan, why do they wanna take them down? Well, Hallibary's. On the surface or in the real world? Yeah, in the surface. Hallibary's friend. What was the friend's name?
Starting point is 00:05:38 I challenged you to remember. Camille? Grace. Yes, it was Camille. I Grace, you were close. Once again, I remembered the character. What's the greatest? Yes, it was Camille. It's Grace, you were close. Once again, I remembered the character. What's the greatest?
Starting point is 00:05:47 Yes, it was Grace. I'm going to trust you, because I don't remember either. Hallibur's friend turns up dead after mentioning being acquainted with Bruce Willis via chat. Harrison Hill, what's his name? Harrison Hill, who I kept thinking that his name was Harold Hill, which is the protagonist of the hit musical The Music Man And I thought that maybe he'll be able to take it down for running a band a scam where he went from town to town something band instruments
Starting point is 00:06:13 But it was really a scam. Yeah, like in the music man. Exactly. The plot of the music man. Sure. I feel my would of rather watch Really? I'm a vibe. I like music. Okay. I not going to play in this one. It's a good rocker-pressed and vehicle. We have gone very secure this. Yes, that's true. Much like the film Perfect Stranger, we are specializing in elliptical story time.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Let me just touch on that real quick. Watching the beginning of this movie felt like I had just happened to catch a soap opera on the day off. Because it was like didn't you talk to Jonathan? Jonathan and Cameraw are already here. They brought Christopher with them. Like who the fuck are these characters? Why are you just rattling off of him? Or maybe perhaps you had stumbled into someone else's high school radio. Like people were trying to, you know, Jonathan. Jonathan's now working with the Edgar. Thomas was there.
Starting point is 00:07:08 Thomas and Beverly. They were in a big fight. For a movie that was ultimately very, very stupid. It was very difficult to follow. You're a prick. Yes, that's true. It was an incriminate difficult to follow. Mainly because they were just literally, they were just shot getting out names Well part of it is because Ali Barry's character
Starting point is 00:07:27 Use a numb not the plume numb the gooer. Yeah One she writes investigative journalist stories, which is a man's name, which I think is kind of setting you up for the rest of the movie Because it's all about different identities sure I didn't really really right are you Because it's all about different identities. Sure. But identity is really, you know, right? Who is it? Who is any stranger? Well, that's one of the things that was... The movie brings up a whole idea of like, in this, you know, this information age.
Starting point is 00:07:53 Well, in this, specifically in this internet age. Yeah, in this internet age. What defines us as people? Right. Hypothetically, I could get on the internet right now and create whatever false identity I wanted. And who's to know. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:08:05 Simon Fisher would be hidden beneath a number of like Chinese screens. Well, that's a point I sort of wanted to get at, which was, um, Halle Berry's character believes that Harrison Hill killed this woman. So to bring her down as the trepid girl reporter she is, she is going to lureure him into her world of internet instant messaging which she knows that he is fond of and to do this she gets tech savvy Giovanni Rebusy to set up an iam account for her. She actually has been set up for her. She can't do it herself. This is beyond her skills.
Starting point is 00:08:45 And I think you pointed this out, Simon. Her name was Rocket. Her name was Rocket. Yeah, her name was, hey, he's like what name do you want? And she's like how about Rocket? That was my nickname in college. First of all, no one's nickname in college. Literally.
Starting point is 00:08:59 Literally. But, right off the bat, no one got called Rocket in college. Also, I like the Rocket wasn't already taken as a handle. Right. Right on the berry right off the bat no one got called rocket in college also I like that rocket wasn't already taken as a handle Right it was available. I didn't have to be rocket 179 or whatever just rocket was available No, it chose a rocket. I have a lot of rocket enthusiasts I don't you know, I don't know you realize this but the internet isn't filled with people who are interested in Rocket tree sure any here onano, the nerd pursuits.
Starting point is 00:09:26 Right, right. Yeah, I'm not actually able to make a computer. So I don't know. Well, this must have been, if I can learn. I am sure it was really very interesting. Apparently, people use a computer for everything these days. Right. Occasionally dating, murdering, and literally everything murder.
Starting point is 00:09:40 Sure. Anything to review the popular film? Yes. There's a popular film. Yes. There's a million possibilities. Okay. I want to introduce a new segment. This podcast.
Starting point is 00:09:52 Well, the name of the film is perfect stranger, guys. I am going to make a bet that this was not the original title that was on the script. So what I would like us each to do is take us a second and come up with what we think was one of was earlier on the list of titles. You know what? That actually is a really good segment. I like that. You're kind of putting on the spot. You're sort of pepping him out. Yes, a little bit. I want to say the internet murderer, but that seems kind of obvious. I think that I think it's probably that I don't think that was it Well, what it would have been would it would have been I am a colon internet murderer. Sure. Holy shit
Starting point is 00:10:32 That's you know what I'm gonna give you a high five right now. That was fucking really good, dude I'm sorry that I'm away from the microphone as I'm keeping my cat away from the podcast wires a microphone as I'm keeping my cat away from the podcast wires. Um... Oh, cats are dax. I don't know. I think probably was called the Net Starring Sandra Bullock. That's a chase that's how I do it. Because it was already taken.
Starting point is 00:10:54 It was really weird that they titled it Starring Sandra Bullock, too. Right. It's a wall. Well, that was sort of a dream cast thing. Well, it was a screenwriter. And also commonly speaking, they won't feature the actor, address his name in the title of the movie. Because it kind of breaks the fourth wall.
Starting point is 00:11:10 Big John Mothovich. Maybe. Pretty much the only exam. Not really. Or once. Right. Like, for instance, you wouldn't have the title of a movie be, I don't know, Lion King, music by El John,
Starting point is 00:11:22 because you kind of takes you out of the experience. Dan like that one nice. Before perfect strain. Quick to me. I like that your brain went to that. Yeah it's time wide. Still what do you got? Before perfect stranger I think it was danger.computer. So it's one of those two at least. I like I am colon in some murder, uh, internet, in some murder.
Starting point is 00:11:49 Yep. I am instant murder. That's okay. Between the two holes, I think what we put together here is probably the most accurate picture. Exactly. Maybe it was called the Hallibary. You're doing it again.
Starting point is 00:12:01 But the name and the name. Hallibary Dr. Cull. It's not a- Hallibary.com. Is it the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of the name of The other example. You're going to take right now. Yeah, and in the other ones. I mean, unless we're talking about the popular Jeff Rotel album, JTold.com. Sure, that was another thing that came out at the same time. In Anderson, discover this thing called the internet. And it was now about constant doubt, I believe.
Starting point is 00:12:38 That came first, and there was the vote for putting eye in front of things. And now probably putting Google in front of things is the standard internet joke that is true I think this is called HTTP yeah, we're going the same place you gotta take this one Dan forward slash PSI love you backslash hollyberry backslash there's a good ass murder Now son html Simon, you know, I was paying attention to our podcast and in the past you Complained about your dislike twist and that's true now. I wasn't my favorite part about this is that you got that from listening to the podcast I wasn't paying that close of attention to the movie perfect stranger, okay, but
Starting point is 00:13:23 attention to the movie perfect stranger, okay, but Made the wise decision and yes, you there was a twist in no kidding no fucking fake bro. There was a way to Twist ending. I don't you know what now. I don't want to sound like a broken record sure Okay, but there was a fucking twist ending in it and guess what it was fucking retarded It was a retarded twist ending and it was exactly why I hate twist-in Because you have what is you know what okay? There's a thriller blah blah blah. It's maybe not the greatest thing you've ever done and I think in a way like it almost feels like a writer It's like you know what I really got a plunge this fucker up a little bit I know how about a twist like yeah your script kind of sucked and the twist was equally sucky No one will fucking ever guess what the twist is, by the way.
Starting point is 00:14:07 Unless, I'll probably say it. Unless they've seen it. Or I'll say in a minute, because I get all twists, I get all fucking pissed off. I mean, this response, totally not a surprise. Dan, you love twist endings. That's true. If I recall, you defended twist endings pretty voicin for us. I think that that is probably an overstatement. Was it really? Females about twist endings pretty voice-in-person. I think that that is probably an overstatement. Was it really? Fandlings about twist endings.
Starting point is 00:14:27 Oh good. Listeners I channel go back and look at this one. Well here's the thing, like twist endings. And you'll find the Dan loves twist endings. Still the number three. He loves it. Yes, check it out. The thing about twist endings is you should have to be licensed.
Starting point is 00:14:38 To be like, let's say I'm all like a special test. You have to take a test to see if you can do it. Because like if you can pull a twist in off, who would administer the test fucking a. Yeah, yeah, I don't know I don't know I who do I I think I held up Christopher Nolan is like a good twist in So Christopher Nolan would administer the master of twisting testing real Christopher Nolan, by the way, he's made two major motion pictures. No, he's made me he's made a couple ones made one of the ones Oh, Ben and begins yeah, yeah, oh Yeah, yeah, yeah, oh shit. Okay guys, so it is like I think that when they're done well
Starting point is 00:15:14 They're like a magic all I like Chris for known it's a magical experience. No, I'm not gonna just pull up Chris I mean like if I you know was born back when the village You're fucking dickhead if I was a man hell if I was of an of a movie going age back when planet of the apes came out I probably would have been like holy shit. They were on the earth the whole time. Okay. I mean at this point You know, surely that's that's that's that's that's honestly that's a fair one I'll give you that one if I remember the original channel was the you named five good twist any movies You were so far it's really my point is this is over a course of a month done well It's a fantastic magic magic trick when done poorly. It's what you say. It's like someone gets to the end of a script
Starting point is 00:15:58 And I'm like all right holy shit. Okay, fucking fuck this is like basically I've hit it in the corner. I'm like a pedestrian thriller. I Need something else to jazz this up. I'm gonna just pull out a piece of paper that lists all my characters on I'm gonna throw a dart and whoever the dart hits that's who the killer is gonna be unless it's too obvious I'll throw the dart again. Yeah, and I will just retrofit something I'll retrofit something that I'm careful makes sense. And in this case, I think you should spoil it. Yeah, I will fucking spoil it. You know what thing the argument is, if we're going to be, I mean, why wouldn't we spoil it? Because if we're doing our job even halfway right, somebody who hasn't seen the movie is going to be
Starting point is 00:16:40 like, fuck that movie, it sounds retarded. And if they've already seen the movie, they don't give a shit if we just slow the twist So I don't see why we'd like hold on to our hat or something Here's the big twist fucking ending the real killer was the main character Holly Mary She's the one that killed the girl who died wait a minute Simon. Yes, I don't understand Haven't we've been viewing the movie from her perspective the whole time? Yes, and yet she was the killer haven't we been sympathizing with her?
Starting point is 00:17:08 We have but you know what she was the killer. That's what makes it so fucking good That does blow my mind fucking surprising. I'm surprised. Yeah, I was surprised to I'm still surprised We just finished the movie half hour ago and I'm still fucking sure a little bit legitimately surprised But I think that was just because you were surprised at the audacity right I was shocked at how incredible like I was incredulous as the fucking the balls of the film I just be like you know what it was hollyberry and why did she why did she kill she okay? Oh god fucking hell I was at a certain point in the movie there was some very poorly cut Flashbacks to the Hollywood
Starting point is 00:17:45 actor's childhood where it seemed like, oh I guess Hollywood was molested by her dad or her stepdad or whatever, it was just some fucking guy, I don't know. So what we find out at the end is that Hollywood's mom killed the dad or father figure because he was a creepy molester monster. But her next door neighbor and childhood friend, the girl who is killed at the beginning of the movie and the whole investigation is about, she witnessed the bearing of the body. Now apparently this girl that got murdered was literally a monster and was blackmailing her child and friend Holly Berry about the fucking
Starting point is 00:18:25 molesting dad used to molest her their mom killed. So she's blackmailing. No wait, but let's not pass over. I'm getting fucked up. I'm getting fucked up. Let's not pass over though because we got to point out that before this twist to work, the girl who's been blackmailing has to have been blackmailing Holly Berry since like the age of like what, 10, 12, she was just-
Starting point is 00:18:44 She said when she was about 10 years old she has to have been like you know what I can turn this mean witnessing the bearing of this body to my advantage and black male hallowy berry for I don't know like lipstick and candy let's also point out that this girl this horrible crestulator, also I guess Siduce Tyler's boyfriend and they had it a fair. So there's literally this is a boy friend who I didn't realize was her boyfriend and tell you explain it to me. Oh I'm press fucking stew because he was in two scenes in the first hour of the movie literally. I'm having a room getting a drink during the first
Starting point is 00:19:22 scene. Dan let's be clear. He was in two scenes in the movie. Mmm. Like from the beginning until the movie was over, he was in it two times, one time, because Holly Berry came back after a date with him, the date not being shot at all, and she just like, I guess, I can't tell if she was fucking him in the kitchen, or just like grinding her pelvis against him.
Starting point is 00:19:43 I couldn't tell. He's in there to say the same thing. I'm sure that's, I couldn't tell. He's in there's the same thing. Sure, I don't know how it works exactly. Later on, he was in it again, and at this point, I'm like, you were like, Dan, you were like, who was that guy? I'm like, no, that's your boyfriend. That's someone the other girl I had in the fairway.
Starting point is 00:19:56 No, ask me, I don't know it, but I fucking don't think I should have it. So anyway, he's the guy from CSI. It's awesome. So this fucking girl has been blackmailing all along, sleeping with a boyfriend, etc., just a real primo bench. So what Holly Berry does is, she murders her.
Starting point is 00:20:14 Not only does she murder her, but she murders her and also sets up this guy. This guy named Bruce Willis, right? Which, by the way, makes very little sense when you return back over it. Because, you know, we're led to believe that poor Hallibary has been... Well, she's been victimized. She's been victimized in her life and she's been molested. And then she was blackmailed.
Starting point is 00:20:40 She really needed to get out from under the situation. And fine, that's fine. But then she decides to do it by framing some guy some some some rich guy yeah just some guy yeah yeah I mean like what's why do you frame him I mean it's not like there's that much fucking police investigation like it was really no she really was getting really hard like if she wanted to she probably could have bumped off That girl without anyone really noticing that much right? Well, that's pretty that's you don't have to go through like an elaborate mastermind fake
Starting point is 00:21:15 Sting operation reported the fucking trial with a whole trial and everything was crazy and and in the end Giovanni were busy. Well, Giovanni were busy figures it out. And what he does is he confronts her with the knowledge, he breaks it down for us the viewer. Right. And also, not only Barry. Not only, right, it also probably did. He tells Halle Berry how she did it.
Starting point is 00:21:36 Right. Now, the reason why the script writer did that is because he wrote a shitty script. So the viewers at home might be unclear about what shitty shit he'd written shit style. So he's like, hey, this is exposition for you to figure out because I didn't make him clear at all. So he breaks down for us the viewer. It's like, oh of course, and then this, and then this, blah blah blah blah. Prior to this, it's important to point out that Giov of only RobiC's character was,
Starting point is 00:22:06 at first it seemed as though he might have a Enidous Incrush on his character. I mean, he thought it was cute, I don't know. Later on, she goes to his apartment, we saw him to, I don't know, it drops me. And it all for something. And discovers his weird like, cornering and closet.
Starting point is 00:22:20 Yeah, we're gonna evidence, don't you? His evidence doesn't. We're gonna talk about the return of the evidence, sure, and then this is a slight tangent. She goes into the bathroom and there's a weird, literally gigantic linen closet. Probably the biggest closet I've ever seen. He lives in, I guess, a regular New York apartment
Starting point is 00:22:36 and as a person. Wait, it's for not a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or a new, or Yeah, I don't have a closet that's devoted to just my lemons and pictures of monogra. Sure, let me ask you, Dan. In your apartment, how many actual closets do you have at all? There's basically one closet and a room that we treat as a walking closet because it's too small to use for anything.
Starting point is 00:22:59 Now, would it be large enough to not only stock, I'm going to say from what I remember seeing in that scene, 20 to 50 towels. Now, my true closet was... Because he owned 20 to 50 towels. Yeah, he did a lot of drawing. Yep, he took a lot of showers. But he's a wet guy, he's a wet guy. Drowning. To tell off after a long day of masturbation.
Starting point is 00:23:20 Of masturbation, really, yeah. And in his evidence dungeon, he also had pictures of Halle Berry arranged in a weird sort of Christ like a halo What he had gotten his hand on some kind of a mannequin and had glued or pasted I don't know a shit load of pictures of Halle Berry to the mannequin now that's crazy Right like that shit is the kind of shit that anyone puts in a movie because they're trying to create a great big neon sign For like this person it's crazy. Yeah, it isn't real. It's so fucking fabricated just for movies like the guy who made a weird Shrine to the girl and I like it only happens
Starting point is 00:23:57 I'm gonna do that shit cuz it gives who gives a rep, you know right nobody's fucking no one has to know You got a spare closet fucking put it in there fucking dude like it give me a chance to work in my scrapbook I'm sure by the end of the movie though We are asked to forget how creepy Giovanni Robisi is and sort of accept him as I guess Factor hero of the film the guy and then figure it out now The de facto hero of the film the guy and then figures you that now Do you remember we see we find out that his crush was in fact not a crush It wasn't just that he had tender feelings for Holly Barry He was a mech apparently to be a creep like a fucked up creep. He's like is a goddamn creep
Starting point is 00:24:37 So now he cracks the mystery he figures out like blah blah Holly Barry You're the one that did it and here's why now blah blah blah blah, hollyberry, you're the one who did it. And here's why I know blah blah blah blah. Now, the best part is there's a series of like, there's a montage, like a series of vignettes of like, oh, he did, I did. Right, always, literally always a great idea of filmmaking wise, where he's like, talking, we're in the hallway, talking, we're in the kitchen.
Starting point is 00:24:57 The entire exposition takes place over, what do you want to say, like seven minutes? Maybe. Okay, let's say seven minutes just for the sake of argument. There's a scene of them sitting on the floor in the hallway, Indian style facing one another. There's a scene of them sitting on the couch with her head in his lap as he's explaining how she's a murderer. The scene ends with them in the kitchen and I guess making breakfast together. Yeah, and which point he turns around and together right they're making breakfast. They're making omelettes He turns around and says like blah blah blah. So you did all these murders
Starting point is 00:25:35 But here's the question. What are you gonna do for me to make sure I don't tell it was putting it like oh So he is a creep and a sexual predator and a monster and she Staps him. She's yeah, I can answer that question him, dude, because if you find out somebody's a murderer, the last thing you want to do is be like, I could tell somebody. What will you do to just find out? You know what? They probably will murder you. Yeah. Because clearly they don't have an endom. Yeah. If I know that, what I do is I show up at someone's house. Sure. I explain how they did it. And then I make it clear that I've not told anyone else. Right. Nobody knows. And then I threaten them clear that I've not told anyone else right nobody knows and then I threatened them in some way to be it sexually or just sexually
Starting point is 00:26:09 sexually you're most sexually is usually the best way it's the most rewarding I mean sexual is maybe you want to get stabbed I'm point out how clever they are disguising the last murder they performed uh reminding them of their prouds at murdering i'll be people have no cancer and so good murder
Starting point is 00:26:29 remind them that i live in a weird little basement that nobody knows about and let's uh... take a moment to acknowledge the haunting last shot of the film someone from across the way looking out of their window witnesses how they bury stabbing janni Rabissan. Not only that, but that shot very much mirrors Hallibary's childhood friend in the first place seeing the bearing of the father.
Starting point is 00:26:51 It's haunting. The cycle, the cycle of violence and blackmail continues. Yes, and murder. Perhaps Hallibary will frame Bruce Willis for that guy's murder of her neighbor. Nobody knows. We'll have to stay tuned for Perfect Strange Apart. Yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:27:08 Well, the time, the time a lot for this segment has run out. I'm becoming a taskmaster trying to keep things down. Can we talk about one more thing? We can talk about one more thing. I just want to touch on the point that throughout this entire movie, Bruce Willis' character is a successful businessman. He's also what's present in his being quite the ladies man. He's seduced many women. His game, let's call it his game for lack of
Starting point is 00:27:33 better. He's trying to seduce Holly Mary. His game involves him going to a bar together and him discussing the finer points of a die career. Now ladies out there you can be sure that I took a lot of notes on this. And you will have your ass away, the fuck more seduced in the future by me when I employ that word for word. Yeah. A little too much sarcasm, dude. No, I'm being sincere.
Starting point is 00:27:58 I'm gonna get sure now. You can't tell when I'm being sarcastic when I'm being sincere. I can't. I'm more. Like, women really like people to explain sort of patantically what makes a really good daquerie. Right, daqueries.
Starting point is 00:28:10 The manliest of all the alcoholic beverages. The daquerie. But I think that we need to... A Hemingway daquerie. A Hemingway daquerie. And we all know also how much women love earning a daquerie. Or the same way. Well it shakes a lot of earns.
Starting point is 00:28:23 Hemingway, that is true. Oh my God. So let's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a lot of ernie's having a I like it. Yeah, right all that up in ten seconds. You rattle it off big surprise. Stewie What do you think of this? I don't know what to do again And I don't think anyone else should have to watch because it's totally sick Dan now step up to the plate I would recommend this to watch for his hilarity because I think really I think this I think that this shit was bananas Wow The shit was not fucking bananas. It was the It was my shit. This was the shit. This was my shit. This movie was the...
Starting point is 00:29:08 We're gonna get fucking... Rinse to funny. We're gonna be suing us. Rinse to funny. Listen to this podcast. Rinse to funny. I'm sorry. It was a no mudge.
Starting point is 00:29:17 No, I thought it was hilarious. I really thought it was real. Really? Okay, well I'm not gonna recommend it at all because it movie pissed me off. Alright. Honestly, and that's based mainly on obviously the fact that it's a twist ending and We all know I feel about that but also because I spent the first 15 minutes of this movie having no fucking Clueless happening because all the characters were just fucking rattling off shotgun style the name of characters that were in the movie I'm like, don't you remember what Christopher said to Thomas? Like I don't know what these fucking people are. I don't know what's happening.
Starting point is 00:29:45 I'm just mad at this movie right now. Sure. So I say fucking no. Don't watch it because it's for dickweeds. Yeah. All right, well fair enough. Let's move on. Before we do some recommendations.
Starting point is 00:29:56 OK. Because I'm shitting your hand. I have some papers in my hand. Because Stewart was already looking at them, I think I'm going to move on to this section, which is listener feedback. Okay, cool This is all I'm fucking right excited about our first actual listener feedback some emails came in I would love to hear this first one's a bit of a cheat
Starting point is 00:30:13 It's from my old friend Rusty who I know back. I don't know Rusty. I know I'm gonna skip over the first part of Just talking about like you and him all the time, sure. But he does want to say, taking extra liberties to introduce my own picks into the show. My favorite overlooked horror-howling film might very well be Pin, Canadian title, Pin a plastic nightmare, starring Terry O'Quinn of Lost Fame, keep up the good work. And I have to... I'm not familiar Not for me. I watched pen over
Starting point is 00:30:47 Last Christmas I was over at Rusty's place and You know Terry Quinn as he says John Locke of lost also The stepfather the horror movie I'm not gonna move that movie. You know the stepfather. No. You know, a guy goes from family to family killing them when they're not perfect. No. I know the granny. That's kind of like that.
Starting point is 00:31:10 Sure. Well, I like it. Penn is about, Terri Quinn's character is this doctor, who has this life-sized sort of, you know, medical mannequin named Penn PIN, and he does like little ventriloquist things for his kids, like,
Starting point is 00:31:28 Hey, I'm Penn, well, I'm, hello, there, but better than that. Sure, all right. And his son sort of becomes obsessed with this mannequin. With Penn. And thinks of him as a friend, and then after Terry Quinn dies, he sort of takes on the pin persona and kills people.
Starting point is 00:31:47 Right. As sons will do. It's uh, it's a pretty creepy and very Canadian film. Okay. I agree with that overlooked. Okay. Oh, maybe I'll watch. So Rusty has given me a good thing to look at. Thank you Rusty. All right. Or a gentleman in a skull. Okay, and we've got another message. If there's this one from. This one's from someone called Sonny. Sonny, I don't know. S-U-N-Y. And it says, howdy, I like your podcast,
Starting point is 00:32:15 but for me every two and a half weeks isn't cutting it. I understand that you have lives, but I think you guys should do your show every week. A run through the park isn't as enjoyable without without random laughs that make old people stare at me the same way they do, the homeless guy, to bathe the meaning of over easy with himself. So if you're the time and willpower, maybe a little more frightening old people and chuckles.
Starting point is 00:32:35 You know what? I think that is a lovely email message. I want to take this opportunity to say to you, Sonny, who may be, you are a lovely person. And God bless you for saying those things. You're lovely, but at the same time, I need to point out that you're a little misinformed, but we don't actually have loves.
Starting point is 00:32:51 Now I- I see misconception. You might imagine we're busy. I like this sunny character. I'm the one- I'm ready to dedicate this podcast to sunny. Sure. Let's do it.
Starting point is 00:33:03 This podcast is dedicated to you, sunny. I just wanna to say though that I'm the guy who edits the podcast. That's sure. Yeah you know what? That's actually really fair. All the actual work that goes into this literally all of the actual work is performed by one Daniel McCoy. And Stu I think we all miss. Yeah. And I think you, the viewers of Home Alone, that as well. I only mentioned... Dan, although this thing's held together with the Gluen popsicles, thanks. Dan makes it happen.
Starting point is 00:33:32 Well, I don't know why it's actually the thanks of the Gluen popsicles, thanks, but the point is, you make it happen. I appreciate it. You're a special. I appreciate it. As special as Sony, if not more so. Thanks. No, I'm sure I am also the only married member of the
Starting point is 00:33:47 Irony is delicious, so I actually don't have a lot more time spend during the week which is falling You gotta get a little bit better than the other shit sure, right? You guys have busy Brunches. I have to be pretty much Yeah, oh my god. This way so much swinging. No, no, I thought we were talking about T parties You guys swing I said keep on it. Oh, there's a T party's a holy shit. I'm sorry. I don't well They're not really you would have different images of marriage and the morning tea parties and I mean the key parties That's what marriage is Tea parties and swinging it sounds fucking hot. Yeah, sounds really ironic sometimes together
Starting point is 00:34:25 Yeah, it's a really swing those of the most most confusing parties so all of it with all the with all the tea and the Emerald partner trading. I don't have time to edit more right which I take advantage of by extending it with tangents Right, which I take advantage of by extending in with tangents and bullshit. Yeah, so you know You're not really disturbed by the idea of all this swinging so he tries to extend the podcast to make me spend more time editing But just unless time at key party. It just seems like you guys don't love each other It's a way to show that you love them more, dude. Really? Yeah, we're about in Panthouse
Starting point is 00:35:02 You and I are gonna have a long talk Really? Yeah, we're about in PEN house. You and I are going to have a long talk after this podcast. Yeah, we're going to have a lot to learn. Yeah, cool. Primarily about PEN house. Yeah, no, it's on the floor. So, yeah, so you're married and you do all the work. And I think that's really remarkable.
Starting point is 00:35:18 Part of it's because you won't only equipment. I came to you guys with this idea for this podcast. And basically, it was, you know, I do performing, I came to you guys with this idea for this podcast and basically it was, you know, I do performing, I do comedy, but I thought to myself, these jackasses are funnier than most people I know. It's true. I enjoy talking to them about movies. Right.
Starting point is 00:35:35 I needed to get this out there into the world. I needed to record this. And what we've discovered is that some people agree with you. Some people agree with you that we are all fun. Some people. Some people like Sonny who enjoy the job. Other Some some some some people might be sunny who enjoy other people Mainly the people that don't listen to us are dickweeds Yeah, and they don't believe are funny
Starting point is 00:35:50 And you know what those people are pricks and we'll probably go to hell when they die Yeah, I would like to exhort every listener to vote for us at podcast No, no, I know I have a different demand of our viewers not only that they vote for us I mean I was that goes out saying. They expose this podcast to their friends. You want them to evangelize. Yeah, absolutely. I went through the process of ties. Sure.
Starting point is 00:36:13 Perhaps on the subway. Yes. Like the homeless person in sunny message. So moving on from that, though, we should do our recommendations as we should, things that we actually enjoy. So'm gonna start with two words Oh shit, um earlier today I I caught a caught screening of the movie new country for old men, huh and Surprise surprise that shit was awesome. Yeah, really fucking good. I don't even know where to start
Starting point is 00:36:42 So just give so you can through you. Dan because I got a thing Normally it's good to use this time to talk about overlooked Sure stuff because what's the point in recommending something that everyone's already seen? Why are you making me feel like an ass? Well, you haven't already seen okay? I mean like also many people won't have already seen that I think I'm what you're saying is you don't want to go with the unobvious choice. Yes, however You know what's a great movie godfather However, I've not seen a lot recently. I did see Eastern promises which I But I think that that already got a lot of credit sure
Starting point is 00:37:15 Did win it at the Toronto Film Festival, so I think that's pretty good The Toronto film I think that probably Ranks the I don't film this. I think that probably fuzzing the flamboyant. The flamboyant. The flamboyant. A couple of months back, actually, while we were doing the Halloween podcast, I couldn't actually talk about it because it's not a horror movie.
Starting point is 00:37:31 I saw JSA, joint security area. I've no idea what that is. It's by Chan with Park or Chan Park. Oh, sure. Depending on where you read his name, of Old Boy and Symphony for Mr. Vengeance fame and sympathy for the movie. I believe it would be Park would be probably his family. Yeah, so how would you say? Park Chan-Wook.
Starting point is 00:37:51 Alright, so Park Chan-Wook, great Korean director. This was his like breakthrough movie and it's about a murder that occurs on the joint security area between North and South. Right, right, right, and it was like a super high-grossing movie in Korea when it came out. I remember hearing it. It's very good. It's, it's, it has a lot of the stylishness of like, saying old boy, but it's, I think, a little, I mean, I didn't enjoy it as much,
Starting point is 00:38:15 but I think it's a little deeper because it sort of deals with real world concerns a little bit more. Like, de-war. Yeah, but it's another great, like, the danger of dragons. The Danger of Dragons. The Where Dragons that they provide. When you're out, going to see a sunny
Starting point is 00:38:30 mountain. If you're Robert Forster, you're the where it's drag. I watch out for dragons. Yeah, so really terrible. Well, you like dragons. Fuck, I gotta recommend something now. I haven't seen, I almost watched the
Starting point is 00:38:42 secret of name the other day, but ran out of time so I didn't get to watch it I remember thinking that was a really great movie. I saw American President the other day on TV I kind of like that movie sort of good I guess and it's Aaron Sorkin it pops Yeah, that crackly dial and if you want to see American President it will be on TBS right now literally You could turn off your podcast and flip on TBS and you can catch it you might be So you're like whatever it's awesome you're halfway through it's gonna Replay right afterwards they're gonna play back to back American presidents so it Doesn't matter you it'll be like all-time movie going you come in whenever it
Starting point is 00:39:20 Happens it's happening later. It's just nice because if you ever watch the West Wing you can see it's like a it's like a what if like an old Marvel issue of what if what if My team should die whatever the fuck is name is was the vice president and not the president. Yeah, that is Also what if Roblo wasn't on the president's tab. That's the what if world there. Okay. Wait was the watcher? Yes, the watcher did introduce every issue of what if that's pretty awesome Yeah, no fucking what if it was not the beyonder the beyonder was in he was involved in the secret wars Yeah, nothing to do with what?
Starting point is 00:39:56 My god, we are dredging deep into the catalog of Marvel characters the Marvel back a lot now I mean, I think I think Dan is probably for this in the world wrap. We're closing on the end here We are closing. Now, I think Dan is probably furthest from the world. We're closing it on the end here. We are closing it in here. I should make a brief announcement. Yeah, you should make a statement. I should make a brief announcement.
Starting point is 00:40:11 I have business, personal business, elsewhere. And I'm going to be gone from New York City for an indeterminate amount of time. And what that means is that, right, I really drag this thing down. I am not going to be involved in the flop house for some amount of time I will have a rear be producing an independent podcast called the lot house and it will just be me I will not be watching a movie. It's pretty much it's gonna be me being like I miss Dan and still
Starting point is 00:40:39 Well, that's it. You still you call me sometime except it's gonna be like an hour and it's gonna be every other day Yeah, are you gonna release this out into the world? You're not just gonna send this to us No, I'm gonna be recording it I'm gonna be mailing you guys the cassette tapes. So fucking look forward to that shit So but maybe you guys will enjoy it too. We have these two pricks to side play on the podcast Recorded record himself taking poops. Okay guys will enjoy it too. We have these two pricks to side play on the podcast. I have one. I have one. I have one. I have one. I have one. I have one. I have one. I have one. I have one. I have one. I have one. I have one. I have one. I have one. I have one. I have one. I have one. I have one. I have one. I have when you're back home, you move my d-log tape.
Starting point is 00:41:25 When you're back home on your sabbatical, maybe you can find that tape and you can send it to us and we'll put it on the flop out. Sure, I'll fucking probably do that. Because you know what? It's really fucking endearing. I just want to make it clear to our loyal 200 listeners that... The sun is warm. We're hoping that this is uh... just temporary situation however that said they've replaced me already well that i we've we've we've entered into talks
Starting point is 00:41:49 sure that is not cool well i think the audience will be pleased with the succession of special guests we will have in your absence however we'll be keeping your chair warm for you i don't know that that actually doesn't have a pleasant no i really don't know that's so weird i don't know how you actually doesn't sound that pleasant. No, it really does. It's kinda weird. I don't know how you'll be keeping a warm with like a space heater.
Starting point is 00:42:08 We'll keep, well with a succession of specials. Right, yeah. Other people's assing so they'll be keeping my chair warm. So that when you're right, you're fucking coming back. I'm like, why did you do that? Why did you do that? Why did you do that? Why did you do that?
Starting point is 00:42:22 Why did you do that? Why did you do that? I never left. No, the podcast will continue and hopefully Simon will return and if he does, the chair will be open for him. And warm. We will kick whoever's asses. Whatever prick ends up you calling to take over? Right out.
Starting point is 00:42:37 Sure. But it's a sad, it's sad. So for however long and it's up being all 200 U bastards you're incredibly I'm a little bit in love with all of you like not like a lot like not so much like your G minor Rebeasy that I have a shrine but tender feelings it's always those things like in a party like a sea across the room And I always wonder like is tonight and I should tell him how I feel about it like in labor, but I do that doesn't happen You think you've different movie No,, I'm joking about that like no, it's life and there's an even a lot of masculine Ball okay, what I'm talking about is can hardly wait okay
Starting point is 00:43:13 I'm the guy from can hardly wait and the whole night the podcast viewers are like running ran It's the last night of high school. I'm like, but I really the slater But we keep not being able to come together. I don't know if I was ever saying that really. You've never seen fucking can hardly live it. It's Sam's up Simon's feelings towards you. It's got that fucking chick from a 6-peat under in it. Yeah, you like her.
Starting point is 00:43:50 Jillin' from Love Hewitt. She wasn't in 6-peat under, she was in... Can't hear the whisper. She was in Canary-Way. Now that we've come from... Now that we've come full circle, much like Perfect Stranger the film did. And you know what bullshit
Starting point is 00:44:05 Balky wasn't in it at all cuz the Larry wasn't in it the was the most family matters Cousin Larry Hey, is that shit on YouTube?
