Hello and welcome back to Ask Dr. Hazel, our mini episodes that drop each week. I'm your host,
Starting point is 00:00:43 Dr. Hazel, and I'll be answering all your burning questions. So let's jump into this week's question. Hi there, Hazel. My name is Amy and I'm sending you this voice note from Canada. I heard that it's very important to fuel our bodies after workouts to help with recovery. And I'm wondering, does the time frame in which we refuel after a workout matter? Does it matter if we eat right away or is within the hour after a workout okay? And how much does that time frame play a role in how our body is able to use those nutrients to recover? I appreciate it so much. Take care. So this is a really popular question. How soon after exercise should I eat? And contrary to popular belief, you actually have more time than you think. And assuming that you're not doing two sessions within a 24 hour window,
Starting point is 00:01:34 how soon you eat doesn't have a huge impact. So if you are training twice in a day, I would say try to get in your post-workout meal an hour to two hours after you finished your session. If that's not the case and your sessions are more than 24 hours apart, you can just think about eating when you're hungry and making sure you're getting in your three balanced meals in a day, plus or minus snacks. So we used to think that the window of opportunity was a lot smaller than it is but actually it's a lot bigger and it's what you eat in a 24-hour period that's more important. We've spoken about really good ideas for post-workout meals already on the podcast so go back and listen to that previous episode of Ask Dr Hazel and yeah best
Starting point is 00:02:24 of luck with it.
