here's edelman broken up and the pass is no sign yet
edelman comes down with a football they're saying it's a catch
it's a pass to gates sideline touchdown unbelievable The first round of the draft is in the books.
And I got to say, as a couple Patriots fans here, it could have gone better for us.
Well, that's an understatement.
We're sitting here.
We're alive.
And that's the important thing for now.
Don't you say it, CJ.
I know what you're going say it, CJ. Don't.
I know what you're going to say.
So good evening.
You are listening to the Fumble Ruski podcast by Power 88, Dean Radio,
fans only sports network.
I'm Adam Wright alongside CJ Medeiros.
So the first round is said and done. And as we speak, the second round is going on.
So we will provide you updates uh we'll get
that going and yeah we're gonna recap this this first round it's gonna be painful to start for
us patriots fans as we said but uh adam yes would you like to give our viewers a uh or a taste of
like what's happened so far in the second round?
The Bears just made their pick.
Sure.
Go over that real quick.
Oh, yeah, lightning round, baby.
So we have seven picks so far that have been made in the second round.
So at 33, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers took Houston defensive tackle Logan Hall.
The Green Bay Packers traded up and grabbed North Dakota State wide receiver
Christian Watson.
The Tennessee Titans took Auburn corner Roger McCreary.
The New York Jets, the real head scratcher, took Iowa State running back Brees Hall.
The Houston Texans take safety Jalen Petrie.
The Atlanta Falcons take defensive end Arnold Ebikete or Ebiteke.
And the Chicago Bears take Washington corner Kyler Gordon. falcons take defensive end arnold ebiketti or ebitike and the chicago bears take washington
corner kyler gordon okay so quick thought quick thoughts on that um so far um the buccaneers
that's a good pick for them they needed a defensive tackle it looked like they were
trying to get a little younger at that position. With the state of that defensive line, I mean, they're all dinosaurs up there, really.
Pretty much.
With JPP and I'm blanking, Ndamukong Su.
I don't even think Ndamukong Su's back.
What's that?
I don't even think Su's back yet.
That's what I'm saying.
He's old.
They didn't want to re-sign him.
They wanted to get younger.
Oh, yeah.
And as for the Jetsesus christ that team that team was
doing so well up until this pick where they took a they took a running back when they already have
michael carter who's been showing flashes of brilliance but um we do have to i do want to
get into this first round because this was an incredible round um just looking at if i take
my patriots jersey off and i say i just look at
this draft you would say this has been a great draft so far oh yeah really interesting first
round 12 trades up to this point 12 and say what you want about this patriots pick that we're about
to get to it does it does give us things to talk about like Like this is, this is going, this is going to be, it's fun because it's classic Patriots.
Who else?
Who's in fun for it?
Ain't fun for me.
Okay.
All right.
All right.
So we're going to get into this.
So the Patriots,
they were at 21.
All right.
And at one point they were,
when they got to this,
to number two or number 21,
they not only went, there was was not only Trent McDuffie, who was available, and Andrew Booth, but also Devin Lloyd, who, as I mentioned, CJ has been drooling over for the past month.
They did not, and it's not like they passed on any of these guys.
They decided, let's trade back.
Then you get to that point where it's number 29.
And by some miracle, Andrew Booth is still available, which he, by the way, still is in the second round.
Hopefully by some miracle, he still lands because that is still a major need for that Patriots team. And on top of that, there was also N'Kobe Dean,
who was another linebacker.
At this point, Devin Lloyd's gone.
Devin Lloyd had already gone to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
But they did not go with any of those players.
Also, by the way, George Karloftis was available.
That's a possibility.
My man, George Karloftis.
Yeah, you could get a little better there um at that front seven not not as not as much as you need the
secondary but it's whatever but they went not none of these top prospects and they took a man And a guard, by the way, named Cole Strange. He went to UT Chattanooga, a small D1 school out of Tennessee,
a player who was not going to go for the next two rounds, possibly three.
He was going to fall to possibly round four of the NFL draft.
Actually, Adam, I don't want to jump in on you,
but,
uh,
I've been hearing rumors from many people saying that allegedly Cole
strange wouldn't have made it out of round two.
Sure.
Okay.
Well,
I don't know.
We don't know,
but that's what the projections said.
It said round and either way,
round two,
round two,
they have a, they have a second round pick
trade up with that pick do not use your for your 21st overall pick to pass on devin lloyd
and trade back and then go and get i but anyways they uh they go out that's what happened they went
and they got Cole Strange.
CJ, I know you have some strong feelings
about that. Please, the floor is yours.
All right.
Ladies and gentlemen,
hide your children. This might not be
fair. Just kidding. I'm not going to say anything
bad. But
I've spoken to a few people about this
and there's some people on campus
that says this is a classic Patriots move and Bill we trust.
Someone even called me a Fairweather fan to say, oh, and Bill we trust.
Bill has a plan.
Well, can I know?
And it's just, oh, God.
Look, let me say this right now.
I have no problem with Cole Strange as a prospect.
He's a big punishing lineman.
He likes dulling out hits.
He's got great football IQ.
But plain and simple, he was taken too early.
And I know there's rumors now that he might not have made it out of round two.
But still, that's no excuse to draft him round one especially when you let trent mcduffie and
devin lloyd slip right past your fingers you didn't do anything you could take him 21 and
you didn't seal the deal in fact i was talking to someone about bill belichick trying to justify
this pick and apparently if we say 21 he still would have taken Cole Strange.
And I swore to myself I would never be one of those fans.
But I'm starting to understand.
I was like, oh, why do you want Bill Belichick fired?
You're crazy.
I won't lie to you.
I'm not saying we need to fire him, but I'm starting to understand.
Because last year's draft was a collaborative effort.
Everyone put a little bit in, and we knocked it out of the park.
And this year, Bill Belichick has taken it back over.
Can you tell?
Can you tell there's a difference?
Yeah.
Look, I don't care what anyone says.
Bill Belichick sometimes really tries to get too cute with his drafts.
He wants the scheme fit, the underdog, the diamond in the rough,
over the proven talent.
No, I'm sorry.
If you prioritize scheme fit over God-given talent, you are a moron.
And anyone who says so is also a moron.
And there are some people who say, oh, don't be a Fairweather fan.
This is always how it's been.
No, don't make excuses now.
Don't make excuses.
It's you, Patriots fans, that say it's all going to be all right.
They keep spinning the wheels of futility.
This is why it's all Bill can do no wrong.
Wake up and smell the draft bust coffee.
Now, I'm not saying Cole Strange is going to be a draft bust but this was a reach
yeah but for this reach yeah oh yeah it's a reach now look i think he's gonna slot in and start day
one but this man better have like a mike on when you type rookie season he better knock me off my
socks okay and this man better be the second coming of john hammer that's all i have to say
okay here here's the here's the thing and here. That's all I have to say. Here's the thing.
Here's the only issue I have with what you said.
The thing is,
this is Bill Belichick's
guy, clearly. He likes this
guy. I have no issue with that.
I'm an issue with him
either. He took him too.
I agree. But the problem is
when you say,
when you talk about his comment,
when he said, I would have taken him at 21, of course, he's going to say that.
Of course he is.
That's his guy.
He's not going to say, oh, if I were earlier, I would have taken somebody else.
If he likes this guy, he's going to show his confidence in him.
And if he doesn't show his confidence in him and say, well,
we would have taken somebody else.
That would have been a bigger problem.
If you're going to take this pick, own that stuff.
I almost said a bad word.
But own it.
Own it.
That's fine.
I have no issue with that.
It was still a reach.
This is a reach.
And you had a second round pick.
And if you really feel like he's going to go early in the second round, then trade up with that pick.
But don't trade back with the first round pick that you, that you have, because you have bigger
needs that with players who are available at that position of need that you needed to, that you
needed to go out and get, and you didn't do that. You didn't do that. And I, I might, I, I was never
really on board before with this takeout Bill Belichick as general manager,
but it's starting to grow on me a little bit.
Same.
Because on the defensive side of the ball, he's been money.
Let's look at it that way.
He's been money on the defensive side of the ball drafting.
He knows his stuff with defense, and you can understand why.
Because he has been involved in defense for as long as he's been in the NFL,
especially going back to his Giants days.
However, his offensive picks have been horrible.
Horrible.
And most of the guys who have panned out, the Julian Edelmans of the world,
I don't have anybody who comes to's who comes to mind it was also
james white wrong yeah james white gronk yeah sure they've had a few diamonds in the rough but
the thing with diamonds in the rough is they're never planned they're pleasant surprises they
don't you can't just plant you don't just plan for julian edelman a quarterback out of kent state
to to just become to become a super a Super Bowl MVP and be a Super
Bowl hero twice before that in Super Bowl XLIX and Super Bowl LII. You just can't. What's up?
We got a pick in. The Seattle Seahawks at pick 40 are taking the Minnesota edge rusher Boye
Mafe. That's great for that front seven. And keep in mind, they are picking again at 41.
Okay.
All right.
I don't mind that.
That's not a bad pick.
I love them.
But, yeah.
Man, this has just been ridiculous.
I'm really – this has been a – I really have –
I haven't always valued their first-round picks all the time. Like, I've always been like, yeah, it. I really have, I, I haven't always valued their first round picks all the
time. Like I've always been like, yeah, it's nice to have, but it's not too big of a deal
with this one, with this first round pick. I really felt they needed it. I really felt they
needed it. They lost some players and free agency. They had, you know, they, uh, they,
they were, they're in the middle of a rebuilding process where they're trying to restock talent in the direct aftermath of this dynasty basically ending.
Sorry, Patriots fans.
The dynasty's over.
We're trying to start over now.
But they really needed this pick.
And I felt that they needed, especially in the secondary, after losing J.C. Jackson, you trade away Stephon Gilmore and you're going to to use Malcolm Butler and Malcolm Butler. I love you. I love you. You have a special place in that, in my heart.
Those first, those few years, even past the Malcolm Butler interception, but God damn it.
Not you. You're not a number one corner anymore. And I'm sorry malcolm butler come out of retirement is not a plan
it's not honestly the only starring caliber corner we have is jonathan jones and he plays in the slot
yeah so who are our boundary guy oh geez this is it's not it's it's not looking good for the
patriots and you know what the worst part is if If Robert Kraft goes – look, let's face it.
Bill Belichick low-key has the Patriots organization hostage
because if Kraft goes up to him and says, hey, I want you gone,
you're no longer GM or you're no longer the draft guy,
Bill's going to take his ball and go home.
Because if Bill – if we kick out Bill the GM,
that means Bill the coach is going to quit,
and we're going to be losing probably the best coach ever
to get rid of an iffy GM.
And is that really a risk you want to take?
You could go any way with that question,
but in a weird way that almost has us hostage because let's face it,
Adam, do you really think if we tell him he can't be GM anymore,
do you think he's going to stick around?
He's going to quit out of spite.
Yeah, he will.
Yeah, I agree.
He's going to quit out of spite.
And my question is, hang on.
Yeah.
My question is, do we look at Bill Belichick as that guy anymore? Ever since Tom Brady left, what have we really seen out of Bill Belichick?
I mean, I won't go that far.
I mean, look at the rosters he's had to work with.
That first year without Brady, we were up to our necks in dead money.
We couldn't do anything.
And we went on a spending spree.
It's just, oh's just oh they spent through
their face in free agency and then they and then they were they were out in the wild card round
and and i'm not trying to i'm not trying to say that bill belichick sucks but we're looking at
it and saying that bill belichick can turn water into wine and that he was he was he deserved it
does is that that is this type of guy the type of guy who deserves a 50 share that like
people want to say in that patriots dynasty is this the type of guy who we have i think it might
be i'm i might be go as far as to say it's i want to say i've been saying the rational side of me
has been been saying 60 40 brady but i might i'm I'm this close to going towards, you know, even, even further than that.
65, 35. All right. Calm down. Calm down. Cause, cause let's face it without Bill, there is no
Brady without Bill. Pray probably doesn't get drafted without Bill believing him. Brady never
becomes the goat. So let's all just settle down. But my point is Bill, the coach is that guy,
Bill, the GM is a different story and that
is all i care to say on that matter also the uh bill the gm bill the gm gave drew bledsoe
a massive contract extension before that before that injury just okay yeah yeah because bill
belichick's good at predicting injuries yes that's that's what he can do. Yeah, you can see it to the future.
That's wonderful.
He's also good at predicting a 5-11 season under Drew Bledsoe.
That'll do something.
So would you have done that?
Without the benefit of hindsight, you're the GM.
Drew Bledsoe is a promising young quarterback.
He wasn't young at that point.
Arguably top 10.
So do you not extend him?
Do you let him walk?
I don't. No, do you let him walk i don't know i i would let him walk he apparently yeah you can say that now but what about then would you let him walk then i would have taken away what you know no no no that's stupid i'm
sorry no offense but anyway we do have some news uh the seattle seahawks have taken their second
pick and to the surprise of myself and others they didn't go
quarterback where'd they go are you ready for this they took Kenneth Walker III a running back
from Michigan State Seattle what did you just do that's like putting a band-aid on a gangrenous
wound I'm against I'm against going running of course, but I'm also against going quarterback for them.
I just don't think – I would say don't go quarter.
I don't like quarterbacks in this draft.
I don't.
Disrespect for Carson Strong, man.
I just – I don't like the quarterbacks in this draft.
I don't.
Fair enough.
All right.
We got to move on.
We're going to talk about – there were a lot of teams
with multiple first-round picks.
We're going to talk about how they did next.
You're listening to the Fumble Rooski Podcast.
Fumble Rooski Podcast. Here's Edelman broken up and the pass is no sign yet.
Edelman comes down with a football and they're saying it's a catch.
It's a pass!
It's a catch!
Startline!
Touchdown!
Unbelievable!
Swings it way down the field to Watkins!
Sammy Watkins for the touchdown!
You're listening to the Fumble Rooski Podcast by Power 88 and Fans Only Sports Network.
I'm Adam Wright, CJ Medeiros, two Patriots fans, contemplating life right now.
And we were really going at it.
We were really grumpy after that pick, aren't we?
Just going at each other.
And honestly, I was going harder on this pick than you were.
And I thought you were going to really.
No, no, no, no.
I was, look, I won't lie.
I've kind of softened.
I really have.
I'm not.
And Minnesota Vikings have just traded up in the draft, by the way.
Yeah, I know.
But that's neither here nor there.
My point is, like, I like Cole Strange as a prospect, but I really do,
and I'm sorry.
I mean, in all my mock drafts, I had us taking him most times, you know,
in Patriots mock drafts, but I just don't think he should have gone that early.
And I feel like he's getting a bit of hatred coming his way.
You know, that's totally not earned.
But my issue is really more with the bill than the pit bill, the GM,
bill, the coach.
I'm fine.
Yep.
So several teams had multiple firsts.
This was, there were a lot of them and we don't,
we don't see this many that often.
And it's crazy for a draft like this that didn't have that much hype
to it. There were, there was a lot of trading up in it where players were, where teams were trading
up to try and get players, the Eagles, the Eagles who were going to be on this list, but actually
traded, they traded and they traded their second, their second first for. Brown, which we'll get to in a little bit. But the Jets, Giants, Saints, Ravens, Chiefs, Packers, Lions, Texans, Jaguars.
And let me know if I missed any in the comments.
But what's up?
Vikings took Andrew Booth. That's awesome just we love that don't we
that's just great yeah that's just great we love it we love it andrew booth you yeah yeah and you're
you're right they're gonna take it they're gonna take a kicker oh no no no special team we're going
long snapper drew heart lob for michigan all teamer going long snapper. Drew Hartlob from Michigan all the way, baby.
Long snapper or something like that.
All right.
So Jets, Giants, Saints, Ravens, Chiefs, Packers, Lions, Texans, Jaguars.
Which team with multiple first-round picks did the best?
Then I'm going to ask who did the worst.
I don't want to say it because it hurts me to say it, but it's the Jets.
Just say it. It's simple. It's the Jets.
It's a dark day for Patriots fans, isn't it?
Low key, there's a very real chance the Patriots finish last in the division next year.
But to be fair, I won't say Rahm Ackley finishing last because it really, really depends on how Zach Wilson develops.
Because as far as I'm concerned, he's not a sure thing.
But the Jets took Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, and Jermaine Johnson,
three top 20 players.
Garrett Wilson was my second-best receiver.
Sauce was my number-one corner.
And Jermaine Johnson was like my fifth edge rusher.
And they got them all.
And if they all live up to their potential,
that's going to be scary. I think they did the best. I mean,
a close second in my eyes would be the giants, you know,
for Evan Neal and cave on Thibodeau. That is huge.
But I digress. Adam, who do you think won?
All right. I, I would, I'm, I'm, I agree with you, but because I just want to cover all of these teams,
I want to talk about the other teams that did well,
and I want to talk about the Detroit Lions.
So the Detroit Lions feasted off Jacksonville's stupidity
in taking Trevon Walker,
and they went for the real number one pick in Aiden Hutchinson.
And Aiden Hutchinson is an absolute beast.
And have you seen some of his tape?
There's one where he's straight up going like he's beckoning the left tackle.
He's like, come on, let's go.
And then when the ball snaps, he just plows through his ass.
That was awesome.
I loved Hutchinson's tape.
Still can't believe how one of our guys on the
fan bot said he was uh overrated whichever pinhead that might have been oh who who could guess who
that was that was that's an interesting thing but aiden hutchinson then they they weren't done after
that they went out and they got james Williams. They got Jameson Williams.
In my mind, the best wide receiver in this draft.
And if it wasn't for that injury, he probably would be the number one guy.
He's not number three, but I respect it.
I really do.
He's the home run hitter, best deep threat in this draft, and it ain't close.
And I think he can develop some more intermediate routes later on.
But I have him, and you put those two, him alongside Amon Ross St. Brown,
that's going to be good.
That's going to be good.
That is a really, really good good draft we got a new one
the new york giants just took a massive reach they're drafting kentucky slot receiver wandale
robinson at 43 with george pickens sky more and justin ross on the board. What are you thinking, John? Is N'Kobe Dean still available, isn't he?
Indeed he is.
Interesting.
And what pick are we at right now?
54.
Wait, I mean, we're at 43.
Pat's pick at 54.
So 11 picks until N'Kobe Dean's going to be gone by then.
Oh, 100%.
110%.
But I like the Lions in this draft.
I thought they had a great draft. And they've been slowly building up that team.
I really like them on all aspects.
They worked on the offensive line last offseason.
They went out and they have a really good running back.
I'm forgetting his name.
DeAndre Swift.
DeAndre Swift is really good.
Jared Goff is going to be a very solid bridge quarterback
until the Lions find their guy.
Unless, God forbid, Jared Goff takes him to a Super Bowl
for the second time in his career.
Wouldn't that throw a wrench in their plans?
But I really like them.
I also think the Chiefs had a very underrated draft.
I know they haven't found their replacement for Tyreek Hill,
but they worked on that defense like they needed to.
They got George Karloftis, which the Patriots should have gotten.
We're not going to get into that.
Trent McDuffie, who the Patriots also should have gotten,
and we're not going to get into that.
But this was a very good pick for the Chiefs,
and they fed off of Bill Belichick's ego.
They did.
And they made their defense a lot better.
It might be better than it was last year.
And I've been bashing this Chiefs defense all offseason long.
I really like what the Chiefs did,
and it looks like they're going to –
it looks like they're – correct me if I'm wrong,
but it seems like their plan here is to center their team
a little bit more around defense than offense.
Not to say that they're going to be defense first,
but their defense, it's a lot closer.
It's a lot more balanced than you think.
It's not like the offense just makes up for everything anymore yeah wouldn't you say yeah you're correct i mean you saw their defense
absolutely collapsed against joe burrow the afc championship game and you saw how mahomes had to
carry them through a shootout against buffalo and i personally thought for that it really behooved
uh kc to go defense 100 yep um anyways there was also um all right so what what are we going to
what are we looking at for losers who who are excuse me who did the worst out of these teams
huh i'm i'm kind of split but i'll go with my gut and say the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Look,
you got Devin Lloyd.
That's great.
But Trayvon Walker,
number one,
really,
really for the,
for,
for all intents and purposes,
I'm not saying my,
I'm,
you know,
I'm the end all be all draft authority,
but I had Trayvon Walker in number four among edge rushers.
I had him behind Hutchinson, Thibodeau, and Karloftis.
And let me just say this about Walker.
Yep.
Does six collegiate sacks demand the first overall pick?
They see his size.
They see his speed.
And they see his ceiling.
But keep in mind, he's got a sky-high ceiling,
but he's got the lowest floor.
And we all know how wonderful the Jags are at projects.
And Blake Portals.
But I don't like it.
And also, Devin Lloyd I don't hate,
but I feel like they could have gone somewhere else.
I feel like it's easier to work on a project as a defensive lineman
than a quarterback, no?
No, I mean, it is, but the Jaguars can't develop
unless they're getting a blue-chip prospect like they had before,
like Jalen ramsey
or josh allen you know the defender josh allen of course but like unless they're not getting a look
they're not getting a blue chip they can develop those blue chips but if there's like a legitimate
project oh they're not doing it they can't all right so my losers of or of these picks this is an intro this is an interesting
one because there's a lot of them who didn't do great i'm gonna see i was gonna i was gonna say
the jaguars but i'm gonna go the ravens by the way texans traded up texans traded up interesting
yeah to where the Browns were.
I'm going to go with the Ravens.
So the Ravens, they're a team that took two very solid players, mind you,
but they don't really need help in the secondary.
They don't.
They're pretty solid there.
That's one of their strengths.
And I know their whole secondary has been hurt,
but it's going to get healthy.
And they're not that old.
They're pretty solid there.
They're fine.
They did not need Kyle Hamilton.
Tyler Linderbaum.
I don't like – here's the thing.
If you're not a tackle, then I don't – if it's not a tackle,
then I don't like offensive linemen being taken the first round,
especially when you acquired that first-round pick
by trading your top wide receiver.
And now you're really, really thin at wide receiver,
and you did nothing to replace that wide receiver.
They better go into the draft and get a Jarvis Landry or a Will Fuller because they really don't have much there.
And don't talk to me about Odell Beckham Jr.
And I'm wishing him the best in his recovery,
but I just don't think the odds of him coming back and being a productive wide receiver all
that great he tore his acl for the second time in his career and it's his third injury to his
to the lower half of his body namely being the the broken foot so i don't like that. And I think the Ravens took a big hit in this draft.
I do.
They got some solid players, but they're not in positions of need.
And Tyler Linderbaum, I like him.
He's a good prospect.
But I just don't like offensive linemen who aren't tackles going in the first round i don't
uh i mean i i totally get it i really do
oh no what happened texans took john mechi all right there goes mechi that's a good pick for
them though because they're that's a team that's on a team that's looking to be on the up and up.
They're playing for a few years in the future.
And you look at John Mechie.
He's a player who you're planning for down the road.
So John Mechie, good pick for them.
I like it.
I like it.
I mean, I like it for them, but.
If you're an England Patriots fan.
If you're a Pats fan, throw in the towel on this draft.
It's over.
All right.
Well, there's still N'Kobe Dean left for now.
For now.
Knock on wood.
Let's face it.
If he falls to us,
we're probably going to take a long snap or something.
Probably.
Yeah, that's a team I don't like.
And the Packers, that defense is looking, again, just like the Chiefs,
that defense is looking rock solid right now.
And they just took a wide receiver in the second round.
I understand you don't like them.
At least they addressed the position somewhat early for once.
Oh, the Packers?
Yeah.
Well, you know I'm not a Christian Watson guy.
I'm just not'm not i don't
his hands are easily the worst among the top receivers and uh i didn't never mind i don't
want to get into it all right well coming up next we're going to talk about the winners
of the first round we're going to look at the entire draft everybody who won this draft
you're listening to the Fumble Rooski podcast. is no sign yet. Edelman comes down with a football.
They're saying it's a catch.
It's in.
Oh!
It's in!
Side-line!
Touchdown!
Unbelievable!
Slings it way down the field.
The one catch!
Sammy Watkins for the Patriots,
as we've mentioned, but this has been an interesting draft.
But who's your biggest winner of the first round so far?
I mean, would it be a cop-out to say the Jets?
Because I know I said they did the best out of the teams
with multiple picks, but to be perfectly frank that they did the best of any team period i mean look at their hall
sauce gardner gary wilson and jermaine johnson like hall oh yeah i guess yeah this was that
also the texans did great too they just got Mechie, and I just realized my argument that our bad drafting
was more Nick Casario than Bill Belichick has just been shot straight to hell.
In this, at least, draft.
Because, you know, they got Mechie and that.
They also took a guard.
Oh, yeah, they took Kenny on green the first.
No, I'm staying with the Jets.
I'm eating with Reese Hall.
So far, they've won.
Just look at all the – not every pick is going to be a hit,
but come on, look at who they got.
Yeah.
So I'm going to reiterate a little bit more about the Giants
because you touched on them fairly briefly briefly but i want to go more uh i want to put a little more emphasis on their draft so far
because they did they they addressed two of the biggest needs on this team and i know we wanted
to put a lot on wide receiver because all their players that they had they've had have been hurt
and you know they haven't gotten much production out of the position.
They have a lot of wide receivers, and they have a lot of assets there.
Let's say just two of them pan out.
Then you have a really good – that's good.
Let's say Kenny Galladay and, let's say, Slayton work out.
That's good. Let's say Kadarius Tony and Sterling
Shepard workout. That's good. They're fine. I just think when you throw bleep at the wall,
something's going to stick eventually. Eventually, when you keep on taking shots at it. And I
think they have some promising pieces there
who have all been able to produce at some point.
Just they've all been hurt.
But otherwise, their biggest needs have been in the offensive line.
Daniel Jones has gotten the living crap beaten out of him during his tenure.
And the offensive line has been his only excuse so far.
And it's
the only reason he's not out of there right now and looking at that front seven that front seven
has been pretty bad too so you go out you get cave on tibbett tibbett oh who's a potential
household name one of the but he has the highest ceiling in this draft, arguably. So you address those two needs. You had two first round picks, unlike the Jets, who had three.
And they did do that by trading in there, and they made some good moves.
But I like the Giants.
I think they are the winners of the first round of this draft,
and possibly of the whole draft itself.
Yeah, there's a chance of that i mean i mean they
just drafted wandale robinson so i have personally pumped the brakes on that but we do have some news
um the baltimore ravens are drafting michigan edge rusher david ojabo
that doesn't sound like a wide receiver no it, it is not. And I'm sure Justin Tucker, wherever he is, is thrilled.
But the thing is with Ojabo is that by drafting him,
this is another guy where you're playing the long game
because he's not going to play this season.
He tore his meniscus.
No, I think he tore his Achilles and during his pro day
and Ojabo was going to go in the first round of that tanked him.
So honestly, you could call that a steal, but like I said, you're playing the long game
then.
Yep.
All right.
So next we are going to go.
So we talked about, we talked about the, the winners of the draft.
We are going to go into the losers next.
You're listening to the Fumble Rooski Podcast.
We'll be right back. And the pass is no sign yet.
Edelman comes down with a football.
They're saying it's a catch.
It's caught.
It's a touchdown.
Unbelievable.
Slings it way down the field to Watkins.
Sandy Watkins for the touchdown!
This is the Fumble Rooski Podcast by Power 88 and Fans Only Sports Network.
I'm Adam Wright, CJ Medeiros. We are recapping day one of the draft and also talking a little bit, giving you
some coverage of day two, which is
happening as we speak.
So,
there's a lot of teams
who did very well in this draft
that we've covered. We've put
plenty of praise on a few
of these teams, and we've
also given
a lot of criticism for
one particular team no names um but who is the biggest losers of this draft cj what's your answer
now you know i could you know just go jump on that patriots fan bandwagon and say,
oh, my God, what the F did we do?
Oh, dear.
No, no, no, no, no.
I can't.
That wouldn't be very sporting of me, now, would it?
Honestly.
Go ahead.
Take them while they're down.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
I got to go somewhere else.
I really do.
And this one might come as a bit of a surprise to you,
but what in the ever-loving, you know, were the Washington commanders thinking?
Wow.
The commanders, what can I say about them?
Like they took Jahan Dotson, the wide receiver from Penn State, at 16.
Really?
Are you for real?
Why'd you do that?
I mean, Traylon Burks was on the board.
I'd like to point that out.
You know, you got George Pickens,
Sky Moore, also
on the board. Also,
Jahan Dots doesn't even fit Washington's
scheme, if you want to go down that route.
There's just...
There's no reason
for this to have happened.
How did this happen? I have no idea.
Just... It's not a flashy pick. It's not a pick that people remember. Like, for this to have happened, how did this happen? I have no idea.
It's not a flashy pick, and it's not a pick that people remember,
but good God, that was an awful pick.
I disagree with it strongly,
and this also belies something more serious, in case you don't know.
They went wide receiver in the first round.
Does that mean this is the end of Terry McLaurin in Washington?
We can only wonder.
Perhaps, but they were looking into going wide receiver anyways.
My pick for the losers of this draft,
and we can also use this segment as an excuse to dump on the Patriots again.
But I'm going to go talk about the Saints.
I think the New Orleans Saints, they traded up, and we thought,
oh, are they getting Jamison Williams?
Yeah, that's what I thought they were going to do.
No, they didn't get Jamison Williams. They got Chris Olave.
Olave. Olave.
Olave.
Olave, excuse me.
Oh, by the way, the Lions just made another pick.
Okay.
They're taking Josh Paschal, edge rusher from Kentucky.
All right, cool.
I mess with it.
You went out and you got Chris Olave.
And Chris Olave could pan out.
He could be a solid player.
Just the problem was he was projected to go late first round.
And on some crazy draft boards, they had him going second round.
So you look at this pick.
Good Lord.
What a waste of a top 15 pick.
And like I said, he could wind up panning out.
But why would you take that risk when you have more of a sure thing
in Jamison Williams sitting right there?
Absolutely.
I don't mind the pick of taking a tackle.
I don't mind it.
But good Lord, you needed a wide receiver and you went with that guy.
I don't like him as a prospect.
He was a good college receiver.
But like Patrick Williver said in the, in the fan box a couple of weeks ago,
I don't think he's going,
I don't think he his play style is going to translate to the,
to the NFL very well.
He's going to be one of those players who's maybe a wide receiver too,
at best.
Yeah. Let me tell you something about a lot of it.
He's a very,
he's very dependent on dinks and dunks that he can convert into 20-yard jump plays.
You know, he's a yak guy, yards after catch guy.
And that style of play, like you hinted at, is just not sustainable in the NFL.
He could get 1,000 yards next season,
and 750 of those 1,000 yards are going to be from yards after the catch.
And it's just, he's a safe pick, I will grant you,
because he's got a really high floor,
but his ceiling isn't where you'd like it to be at,
especially not for a first-round pick.
And I would want to bring up another team, the Green Bay Packers.
You needed to go wide receiver you lost
you you lost not only your number number one wide receiver but you also lost your number two wide
receiver no davante adams no marcus valdez scantling and they lost equinemius st brown
to boot exactly you you lost all these wide receivers and you didn't do anything to replace them until the
second round with a player who you said you don't like no i do not like christian watson i really
don't exactly and they're they're focusing really hard on defense which is i'll grant them they've
been consistent for the past few years and they've drafted some studs in the first round the past few
years and it's it's translated in some into some great defense in the first round the past few years, and it's translated into some great defenses the past few years.
But you have a quarterback over there who time's ticking.
The clock is ticking on Aaron Rodgers,
and you just traded away your top wide receiver
and one of the best, if not the best, wide receiver in the game,
and you did nothing to her.
You got Christian Watson. Right, right, right you did nothing to... You got Christian Watson.
Right, right, right.
Exactly.
You got Christian Watson with that one.
Good pick.
Good pick, guys.
Good job.
Good job.
You guys got a wide receiver somewhat early.
Not in the first round, like you haven't done since 2002.
But it's okay.
You got somebody.
We'll see how it goes.
See how Aaron Rodgers likes it with his four-year contract extension that he took.
The only thing that makes him happy about this is that he's getting paid.
This guy's getting paid, and that might be the only reason why he took this job.
Honestly, when Devontae Adams was traded, a bunch of news stories circulated
that Rodgers, when he
resigned, knew it was going to happen.
And as of today,
it just broke
that Aaron Rodgers apparently
had no idea. He was
under the impression that Devontae Adams
was going to stay. And the Packers
spread that he
knew he was going to leave to save face.
So, what's to stop Rodgers from pulling the plug right now?
I don't know.
I mean, if I were him, I would just retire right now and say, see ya.
Well, at least now he can pay for the vacations he takes to Hawaii
with whatever girlfriend he has.
His girlfriend of the week, girlfriend of the day, whoever.
That is correct.
And we do have an update.
The Washington football team has drafted Alabama defensive tackle
Fedarian Mathis.
Wait, so what pick are we at right now?
We're at 47.
47.
Indeed, yes.
Seven more picks.
We're not close enough.
That's right.
And guess what?
We're probably going to trade back because that's the Patriot way.
Trade back and take a punter.
Oh, yeah.
No, no, no.
Just give up every pick from both of our – wait, do we have two fourths?
I don't know.
Just give up every pick tonight.
Get back and get Mr. Irrelevant, the new girl. I don't know just give up both of you know just give up every pick tonight get
back and get mr irrelevant the new girl i don't know i'm sorry i'm just a little frustrated about
the draft but you know it is it is what it is i reckon you know this this draft has been this
this episode has been very much supposed to it was supposed to be designed to be to be covering
the entire draft and we have covered it but but I feel like 90% of this time
we've been just bashing the Patriots for their pick of poor guy Cole Strange
because he does look like he's a pretty solid prospect.
Oh, yeah.
I have no issues with Cole Strange, but it was a reach.
And honestly, I'm rooting for Cole Strange, obviously.
He seems like a good guy.
And I think he's going to be a solid player.
But yeah, like you just said, he better pan out.
He better work.
Oh, we have an update.
We just passed on Kevin Lloyd for this guy.
What's up?
The Chicago Bears have drafted Penn State safety Jaquan Brisker.
All right.
That's an interesting one.
But we are going to move on.
So wide receivers, A.J. Brown, Marquise Brown were traded.
We're going to cover that.
This is the Fumble Rooski Podcast.
Here's Edelman broken up and the pass is no sign yet.
Edelman comes down with a football and they're saying it's a catch.
It's a catch!
It's a catch!
Sideline!
Touchdown!
Unbelievable!
Swings it way down the field to Watkins!
Sammy Watkins for the touchdown!
This is the Fumble Rooski Podcast by Power 88, fans-only sports network.
I'm Adam Wright, CJ Medeiros.
We are recapping the draft, at least the first round of it,
and we're covering what is going on during day two,
and we will have all the other days that we will be covering for you guys.
So the draft wasn't all that happened yesterday um and i'm referring to two position players who got traded which were marquise brown and aj brown so two browns out
traded away and i believe they were from the same draft class, correct? Same draft class?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, they were.
So A.J. Brown went for – they each went for at least a first-round pick,
and I think there were – and I don't have the exact details of the trade
in front of me, but I believe there were some other picks in there.
But A.J. Brown goes to the Eagles for a first-round pick.
This is an interesting one for the eagles because the
eagles it was highly rumored that they were going to take a wide receiver then they traded up to
pick number 13 13 was it yeah they traded up there just before the lions made their pick
which made us think they're getting oh yeah they're getting jameson williams they loved
jameson williams this has j This has Jamison Williams written all over it.
Then the Lions threw a wrench in those plans and they drafted him.
And we're like, Jesus Christ, now what are they going to do with this pick?
And I was joking.
Me and you, we were sitting in Buffalo Wild Wings with Tuck too
while we were watching this draft and we said,
wouldn't it be kind of funny if they just traded back after this?
They say, never mind.
Just cancel that trade, control off the lead.
Just never mind.
We're just going to trade right back.
Can we have our pick back?
Imagine if they did something like that.
But no, they decided, and Tuck is active.
He said, David Ojabo is is a raven yes we just oh yeah
yeah we touched on that you guys are playing the long game but if he pans out you got yourself a
dog yep but we talked we talked i've been talking about this for the past few weeks
they're gonna go they're gonna go wide receiver nobody was left left. So what did they do? They used the first round pick
they had left and they called up AJ Brown and they said, hey, we're trading for you. They traded that
first round pick away for AJ Brown. They get their wide receiver regardless. So the plan seems quite
clear to me with this Eagles team. They're planning to test out Jalen Hurts,
see just how good this guy is with the team around him.
And if he's not that good,
then you have two first-round picks in next year's draft,
which is quarterback heavy.
That's what they're going to do.
And I think this is going to work out for them.
Unless that quarterback they take sucks.
Then that's a double L for them because not only did Jalen hurts not work out,
but, uh, but a quarterback in next year's draft, but AJ Brown traded away. Marquise Brown
was also traded. And this one was a shocker, but Marquise Brown gets traded for a first round pick from the Ravens to the
Cardinals.
Good trade for the car to the,
for the Cardinals to make Kyler Murray happy.
After all,
after this massive contract dispute,
but as for the Ravens,
as I mentioned before,
you traded away your first,
you traded away your,
your top receiver and you use that wide receiver not to address anything on the offensive side of the ball.
Well, you did, but it was a center.
You used that pick on one of your top offensive weapons on a center. And I get that it was Tyler Linderbaum. Who's in your mind, CJ,
one of the best center prospects in recent memory. I don't care. I don't give a rat's ass. If you're
one of the top position, one of the top at your position, I don't care that you broke your elbow.
This guy, this guy, this guy is you, when it comes to the, when it comes to the first round, you have to go position players.
No guards, no centers, and as if I even have to say it, no special teams guys.
Sebastian Janikowski disagrees.
I don't care.
I don't care that you broke your elbow.
I love't care. I don't care that you broke your elbow. I love that meme.
It's so funny because it's like we can talk about that.
We can talk about that about that meme later. Trade him for a later, trade him for an earlier first round pick so that you can get one of the actual, like,
legitimate wide receiver prospects in this draft.
Go out and get Jamison Williams, Drake London, Garrett Wilson.
And you might have to give up a little more, but it's still worth it.
It's still worth it.
If you want to trade away Marquise Brown, fine.
But you've got to get
something better for him than than a pick that you turn into a center as if i even have to say this
it's a terrible pick i like to point out guys like sky more christian watson if you so choose
and george pickens were on the board.
And what did you do?
You said,
Hmm,
I think I'll take a center.
That's what they said.
And it's just,
I know talk wasn't happy about it and talk,
man.
I'm,
I'm really sorry.
I know what it's like to see your team take interior O-line first round.
It ain't fun.
So Justin Tucker just said he asked for the trade.
I assume he's referring to Marquise Brown.
My point still stands. Yeah, Hollywood asked for a trade.
Apparently he was happy with Lamar and stuff.
He liked Baltimore okay, but the scheme just never fit him.
And I agree with that.
I do agree with that.
And it's that whole run first offense,
and you are a deep threat home run hitting receiver.
Whoa, we just had a weird pick.
What's up?
The New Orleans Saints grabbed Tennessee corner Alante Taylor,
who I personally have a late third round grade on.
All right, Saints going to Saints, I reckon.
What pick are we on now?
49.
49.
Jesus, these picks can't go.
Yeah, and see, before we keep going,
let me tell you all what I hate about the NFL draft.
As a draft guy.
Shut up.
We're not going to go into this again.
All right, all right, all right.
You keep on saying we're as a
draft guy and it makes me want to i'm gonna i'm gonna go over there to your to your dorm at dean
hall where i used to live by the way and i'm going to bash you over the head with whatever i find
you can't get in my door is locked i'll somebody will let me in i'll talk to jay hill who also
lives on your floor he he can't come in the door is locked
but whatever it's are on the clock patriots trade it up okay hold on real quick so i was just saying
as i mean when i say he's a draft guy i mean like you know as somebody that knows a lot about the
draft how do i put this nicely uh you think you have some idea of who you're gonna take but no you let the
clock dwindle to the last two friggin minutes but the patriots traded up okay yeah i know that must
be dean is available you don't they wouldn't no they they would not you take a punter
don't don't speak that into existence a kicker please we i was going to so i was going to try
and get whipped through this segment this is crazy so kansas city traded out how the tables
have turned because remember the new england patriots traded out of that their first round
pick to get to get to 29 with kansas city so but adam when they when the pick comes through, you mind if I announce?
Yeah, announce that pick because I want to know.
But let's go through this comment.
The pick is in.
ESPN says the pick is in.
All right, all right, all right, all right.
Let's continue on our topic, though.
So Tucker is saying he asked for a trade.
Here's the thing.
Here's the thing.
My point still stands with that.
Because if you're going to trade him, you still need to trade him for something that you need.
And you need a wide receiver once you trade Marquise Brown.
And I like Bateman.
I do.
But Bateman alone isn't enough.
It's just not.
Unless you go out and you get a Will Fuller or jarvis landry after this draft but you need like
jameson williams would fit so well in that offense and but but then again but then again
he would fit in any offense yeah but um what do you let me get your thoughts on let me get your
while we're waiting for for this pick because I want to stay on air until then.
Yeah, so I'm going through the trade details.
So the Chiefs traded away 50.
The Chiefs got 54 and 158 for the Chiefs 50.
So they go up four spots.
And what's 158?
Isn't that like our fifth rounder?
Yeah, that's fine.
I can look at it. What are your thoughts on A.J. Brown to the Eagles?
What are your general thoughts?
Because I went on my little tangent.
What are your thoughts?
I could be wrong, but honestly speaking, oh, geez.
I don't know if the production is going to be the same.
I really don't.
Because as much as I think Ryan Tannehill is at best average,
Tannehill's got an arm.
And Tua has an arm too, but I don't think – I don't know.
Tua's not as accurate as Tannehill either.
It's not Tua.
It's Jalen Hurts.
I meant Jalen Hurts.
Sorry.
I'm sorry.
And I just – I don't know.
I just – and keep in mind, ennessee is a run first offense and plain and simple when
you're playing tennessee you're going for derrick henry you know and aj brown is kind of like let's
cover him but our first priority is derrick henry oh we have news the new england oh my god the
patriots grab oregon wide wait no baylor wide receiver taekwon thornton
they took a wide receiver when nicole b dean was available yes taekwon thornton i don't hate it
and tuck just gave us send a comment put in a comment he said patriots moved up we know we know
we know yep so the patriots for those who don't know,
just drafted Baylor wide receiver Tyquan Thornton in the second round.
So as our episode now goes over an hour,
which is probably the first one in a very long time that it's gone over an hour,
but we just had a lot to talk about with this,
and we also were on air. We just had to announce. to announce oh my god you know why we just took him i'm google i'm looking
him up right now taekwon thornton 6'2 180 pounds 33 inch arms ran a 4-2-8 at the combine that is
pretty that is pretty fast though ran a 4-2 the combine and uh yeah is being compared to uh
excuse me he's uh being compared to me cole hardman so he's like a better hands that sucks
no no that's just a comparison but i'm just saying bill look all i'm gonna say is i don't
like bill belichick's draft philosophy of every rookie starts at the bottom and works their way
up. No, you just traded up for a wide receiver in the second round. This man better start.
You better tell Nelson Aguilar and Nikhil Harry that their services are no longer required.
And Tyquan Thornton, this man better become Devo Samuel. And I mean last season's Devo Samuel. And I mean, last season's Devo Samuel. Wow. Well, we, we are a
couple of biased, angry Patriots fans right now. I wonder if our viewers actually like, are actually
going to like this. They're either going to love it or they're going to hate it, but I don't care.
I'm expressing my emotions right now. And you, you had no, it's just not i i felt this way even if garrett wilson was available
i we were talking about this if if by some chance uh uh one of the top wide receivers in this draft
fell if there we have another gas mask issue where a player falls i still say our positions of need are what are our linebacker and cornerback that means either
devin lloyd or trent mcduffie both of them were available both of them were available eagles
reached on a cam jurgens with the 51st pick an offensive lineman that's a stupid pick i'm sorry
all right well we do have to end the show here because we're
going very long but any other any other thoughts before we end the show tonight uh yeah i just got
notification from the nfl apparently um oh uh the guy we just drafted taekwon thornton was the
fastest receiver in this draft and like one of the i, like the second fastest player. So Bill, you just got a speed burner.
Use him.
Don't don't like have him ride the bench until he proves himself.
Use him.
That is all.
All right.
All right.
So that'll, we're going to end the show here now.
