Starting point is 00:00:00 On today's episode of the Fumble Ruski podcast, Ricky Pearson undergoes PCL surgery. His season is over. Jemir Gibbs and a look at his contract, Holden, and Baker Mayfield gets disrespected again, this time by his own team. Well, again, Tony Robo catches an OWI in Wisconsin, and J.J. Watts going to take over that number one spot with Jim Nance. along with that other NFL news along with training camp shenanigans this is the fumble rusky podcast it may not have always showed it in the staff sheet but you can see him making throws when he needs to make the throws back to back games where he has three touchdowns someone's got to get that six or seven spot he's an elite wide receiver as a rookie truly a lose
Starting point is 00:00:47 lose scenario for both sides welcome to the fumble rusky podcast by secret weapon consulting we got C.J. Medeiros. We got myself Chris Costich. Tuck, unfortunately. Is that work? Unfortunately, I mean, that's, I guess that's kind of our own fault because we started late. You know, our boy works late. So I guess that's our fault for that. Hand up. I'll take blame for that because I low key was available all day. I just was tied up watching that will be trade deadlines yet. And I just wasn't feeling like recording at noon today for some reason. I don't know why.
Starting point is 00:01:33 I think I was just too locked in on the baseball. And as a Sox fan, can't say that I'm not mad. Or can't say that I'm mad. Proper English. Ready to go? Yeah, no, I'm ready. I've been ready. Hell yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:53 Ricky Piersall, lo and behold, bro's injured again. So we kind of touched on it last week. Ricky Pearsall being on the Pupp list to start out training camp. Well, it turns out he needs PCL surgery. His season's over. And I think that most people are like, oh, it's the, it's the freaking station again. It's that it's that freaking station again. This is a Ricky Pearsall thing.
Starting point is 00:02:21 Ever since he got fucking shot, he's been injury prone like a motherfucker. I'm sorry. Credit to him that he was able to come back from getting shot. that is not to discredit that, but he's been injury prone ever since. That's a fact. So it's just not saying that him got shocked as a result of that, or a byproduct of it. But just coincides with it, unfortunately. But yeah, it's an unfortunate loss, especially with, you know, Mike Evans being a bit of an injury prone guy himself.
Starting point is 00:02:58 He doesn't have much time left. Let's look at what the wide receiver room now looks like without Ricky, without old Ricky, young Ricky. Egbuka looking at Tampa, looking at Tampa's wide receiver room. We know what Tampa's wide receiver room looks like. Well, and then why'd you go to it, Chris? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:03:22 Because I'm still thinking Mike Evans is on the box. That's why. Mike Evans, Debo, Christian Kirk. as your top three. That's the, oh yeah, and that's the other thing. Debo,
Starting point is 00:03:33 Samuel is now a 49er again. Which, by the way. I said, I keep forgetting to get Christian Kirk. I keep forgetting that as well. Also, speaking of Debo,
Starting point is 00:03:45 did you see that photo of Debo looking fat? Yeah, I did. A lot of people have been given him grief for that for like a while now. Yeah, he's like, in terms of that, he's like the James,
Starting point is 00:04:00 harden of the NFL, but like not to the same star caliber as James Argon, if that makes sense. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, but to be fair, he's always, like that, what we would call a running back style build. Like, he's literally like a running back in a wide receiver's body. So that kind of. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:20 Yeah, I remember like, there is a video of him. Oh, sorry. Well, there, I saw a video of him just going blazing fast on a treadmill. like dude was scooting and people are like hey fat and it's like he still probably kick any of our asses so oh yeah 100% um but he's probably a chill guy you know oh yeah but uh with this in mind does i guess does this change the outlook for san francisco i'd say maybe it worsens it a little bit because like i feel like to be honest if we're talking ricky pierceau
Starting point is 00:05:05 right for this season I feel like that there was going to be a chance he missed like nine games this year he was probably going to miss half the season for something ridiculous so you're going to have to play half the games with Mike Evans, Debo Samuel and Christian Kirk as your top three wide
Starting point is 00:05:23 receives I'm looking at ESPN depth chart by the way fuck I know what's going to happen by the time cut day rules around but now with no Ricky Pierce all. I say that the odds of them making the playoffs definitely go down. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:45 I mean, you can make the argument that they are lower than you would expect, maybe. Explain. Like, because now you're, basically you're substituting as the number two instead of Ricky. It's Debo Samuel, who is not the same Debo Samuel from five years ago.
Starting point is 00:06:05 And I would say not necessarily close. his years down in Washington it wasn't great so I will say that the one upside is that Debo knows the system yeah no he totally does in that much I believe but you know something Chris yeah let me just say is it really that big of a deal considering the fact old Ricky Pierce, if that is his real name, was a little bit of a non-factor throughout his time with the Niners. I mean, let's be real. You can't exactly lose what you don't have. All right. Like, that seems like a really dushy thing of me to say, and I don't mean that. I get what you're saying. But consider this. His, what was it, his rookie year, you know, he appeared in 11 games,
Starting point is 00:07:14 but he only started four. And even still, so across 11 games only starting four, he had 31 catches 400 yards and three touchdowns. And he played and started in nine games last season where he had 36 catches, 528 yards, and a whopping zilch in the way of touchdowns. So even when he's there, he's not doing a whole lot across two seasons, right?
Starting point is 00:07:43 he has appeared in 20 games, starting 13, having 67 catches, 928 yards, and three touchdowns across two seasons. And keep in mind, former first round pick. So once again, for old Richard Piersall Jr., if that is his real name, it is, like I said, I don't really think you can really, like, lose what you have. Like if he was like a world beater off the rip like Jamar Chase or Justin Jefferson when they were drafted and maybe but until then yeah I don't know
Starting point is 00:08:20 I guess my thing is more just me expecting him to have an elevated role for this year I mean it hasn't literally hasn't happened yet no I know like obviously the first two seasons are the first two seasons but I think with some of the movement like you would have had to expect that Ricky Pierce Hall is probably going to have have an elevated role this year, but or was maybe that manner.
Starting point is 00:08:46 Obviously speaking in freaking hypotheticals at this rate, but. Yeah. Anything else in regards to Ricky Piersall or just the 49ers as a whole. Obliterate the substation, send a nuke right to the substation. It's over. Yeah. But the thing is, wasn't really injury prone until he got there. And I guess you could say, oh, hey, you know,
Starting point is 00:09:13 That's because he was shot. And it very well could be. But I'm sorry. I just, I don't believe this narrative where it's like, oh, the substation theory's been debunked. I'm sorry. No, it really hasn't. And look, I'm not a scientist. If a scientist wants to come and explain why I'm wrong, then yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:33 But I just want to say, oh, it's not operating a high enough frequency to, like, hurt them. But the thing is, it's not. but prolonged exposure can't be good either. Like I said, I'm not a scientist. Like I'm just saying, this is my own train of thought. If anyone wants to, like, jump in and say, well, no, by my point, all I'm saying, like, they're allowed, like you can and I genuinely want to hear why. But I'm just saying, even in a low frequency that shouldn't hurt you, when you're,
Starting point is 00:10:04 when you have that prolonged exposure to it, right? And you're around it for that long. for many players like Kittle and McCaffrey for like years, then wouldn't it have an effect? I'm just saying. Yeah, I agree. All right. Let's move on.
Starting point is 00:10:25 Taseom Hill. Fortunately, ended up leaving the New Orleans Saints. Kind of a big deal, you know, lifelong saint. And a lot of people thought that this would be the end of the road as well. Well, not so. fast. An old friend has come around to talk a little interest,
Starting point is 00:10:47 you know? Guess who that old friend is? Sean Peyton, his old head coach. Tason Hill, turning 36 later this month, wasn't re-signed by the New Orleans Saints this off season after spending nine years with the team,
Starting point is 00:11:04 pretty much as the utility guy, essentially. And Sean, and most of that time being under Sean Payton. And he said on Monday today when we're recording, he will soon speak to multitasker free agent Taysam Hill to gauge Hill's
Starting point is 00:11:21 interest in continuous playing career and kind of go from there, quote unquote. Yeah. Apparently Payton is going to see him in Cane, Ohio this coming weekend when many past and present Saints players and coaches will attend the events for Drew Burris induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. So that'd be kind of interesting to see those two team up again. Now, that'd be, I wonder how the Broncos offense could look after that.
Starting point is 00:11:52 But granted, Tason Mill is also kind of old as shit. Hmm. I could see it. What was his role really these last few years in New Orleans? I think flex tight end type of deal. Yeah. It's about to say, he really didn't play a ton of quarterback. at all. I feel like it wasn't really getting a lot
Starting point is 00:12:16 of touches, especially since Sean Payne left. Yeah, I mean, he can't pretty much do anything, you know, he's a gadget guy, a utility man, as it were. So, you know, like,
Starting point is 00:12:34 that's all I got. Yeah. You know, if he goes to Denver, then, sure, he goes to Denver. Then, you know, some fantasy people can get their trick play guy, you know. And that one, goober that's got him in there, the fancy dynasty.
Starting point is 00:12:50 He's like, yay, oh, my God, this is so cool. You know, I can't wait to put him in for that one game where he is like 50 yards and two touchdowns only to never use them again, like, you know. Yeah. It's just, it's taste a meal, you know. I mean, he's like a gadget guy, but that's, that's it. That's literally it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:14 And like, like I said, he's about to be 36. Lord knows what else you can really do with them at this rate. 36. I always forget. Call it a career, man. Shit. You know, I always forget how that he was, that he's been in the league forever.
Starting point is 00:13:32 You know, you know, it's funny about Taysam Hill. What? You know, that he was in this 2017, NFL drafts. I remember. He was actually picked up by the Packers for, That's right
Starting point is 00:13:49 Before I go on to the Saints 2017 Feels like a lifetime ago Yeah Yeah Also I once heard The human Swiss Army knife As a term
Starting point is 00:14:05 As a nickname for him I just I think there's another one What would that be? The Mormon missile And the Stormin Mormon I like those better It's like oh the human Swiss army knife
Starting point is 00:14:18 Nah The Mormon and missile especially. I like it. I'm hip. Yeah. I thought I had to burp there. I feel it on my tummy, CJ.
Starting point is 00:14:33 Pause. Okay. Okay, champ, whatever you say. Hey, man. All right. Well, we talked to it a little bit about some contract hold ins, contract holdouts. Jamir Gibbs is one of those.
Starting point is 00:14:47 That's a hold in. Apparently, time will tell. When he returns to the field, he missed his fifth consecutive practice on Monday as his parent holding continues as he looks to reach an agreement on a new deal during training camp. Now, here's the thing, of course, we mentioned difference. He is at practice, but not participating. He wasn't dressed. He was spotted roaming the sidelines and a gray lines cut off hoodie for the second straight day at the Meijer Performance Center, often chatting with, teammates of Monro St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Jared Gough, in between drills.
Starting point is 00:15:29 So, yeah. I haven't seen anything in regards to potential numbers on Jamir Gibbs' contract or an extension. I don't know if you have. No, actually, I have not. Yeah. Well, also turns out Bejohn Robinson's also in like a little hold in himself, which both are taking place at the same time. Bejohn hasn't shown up to to the Falcons training camp yet.
Starting point is 00:16:01 Both 2023 first round picks under contract through next season. Both guys looking to get a new deal. Who's going to set the market first? Yeah, this is really just another arms race where two stars have to be paid at the same time and whoever one gets paid first. oh boy
Starting point is 00:16:25 then the other team's just kind of screwed I remember I saw some Falcons fan online it's not an official report it's not going to happen but some Falcons fan online literally said something to the effect of knowing the Falcons I feel like we're going to trade Bejohn and I don't think they're going to trade him
Starting point is 00:16:48 but it's the Falcons like I said I don't think they are not trans or a poor episode. I wouldn't be shocked if that's what they do, which low key, I can see it. It's not going to happen, but it's the Falcons. Nothing shocks me. Oh, yeah. I mean, if you were just looking at like the contracts now, like, you're going to have to pay a pretty penny because like, highest pay contract right now is Devon A. Chan, who's same age or, well, excuse me. Yeah, same age. Devon A. Chan's contract starts this season. Four years, 64 mil. Guess who has the second highest?
Starting point is 00:17:30 It's Jeremiah Love. Jeremiah Love, who's a rookie, 53 mil, four years. Well, guess who's... All these rookie deals are guaranteed now. Yeah. Guess who's right behind them? Is it Judalian Prize? No, it wouldn't be.
Starting point is 00:17:47 Travis Aetian and Josh Jacobs. Oh, boy. So we're probably looking at, like, another, probably another like four year deal, four year extend though, where it's probably to be upwards of like maybe 70 mil for one of these two guys for both of these two guys,
Starting point is 00:18:07 maybe even more. We're probably going to be looking at like 80 mil on these contracts. I might be, I may be speaking a tad out of my ass, but like, I think it's safe to say that like, Jamir Gibbs and Bejohn Robinson are better running back than Devon A. Chan.
Starting point is 00:18:28 Yeah. Yeah, I would say that. Especially, I feel like we're in consensus. Like Jamir Gibbs and Bijon Robinson are like consensus top. Two of the best, two of the best running backs in the league. Yes, I would say that. Yeah. So anything to add?
Starting point is 00:18:53 No, not really. It's just. I don't know, man. I don't know, Chris. I'm not, I just, these are just two teams where, like I said, I don't know why they're waiting as long as they are. That's all.
Starting point is 00:19:11 I feel like you would want to jump to, you would want to jump on it as quickly as possible. Yes, I am inclined to agree. Yeah. I guess the other thing, too, is when they have to, well they don't even have to worry about like extending golf or extending Amonra they already extended both of those guys plus Aidan Hutchinson
Starting point is 00:19:37 um they don't really they don't have to worry like Jamir Gibbs basically the next guy essentially besides if you really want to start worrying about like DJ Reed and Eric Barnes I guess but still those are not the priority yeah i can i can safely say you are correct yeah moving on to baker mayfield boy this is this is just something we kind of touched on it last week but of course you know
Starting point is 00:20:13 a couple days later baker mayfield starts starts going to the media and he's like yeah this is horseshit this is horseshit um so basically baker mayfield uh uh and the box are really not on good terms during this training camp. When as far as to say that he feels disrespected by the contract offer, which allegedly did not extend beyond two years. The reported offer was a two-year extension worth just north of 100 mil. And which also, per ESPN, which also reported that the team isn't happy with how he has spoken about the organization in recent days.
Starting point is 00:21:00 Well, how about you don't disrespect your guy? Yeah, so we're not happy about how, you know, we're speaking about the organization. It's like, yeah, well, he's kind of your starting quarterback and the only reason you guys are still relevant. So I don't know, maybe you behave better towards him. I don't know, just a thought. Yeah, 100%.
Starting point is 00:21:23 You know, this is why I don't care. who their quarterback is. Actually, actually, no, no, no. Let me rephrase that. There's a reason why nobody gives a fuck about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, you know,
Starting point is 00:21:42 or why no one did until you know, Tom Brady, right? Because that's the thing. They can't develop their own quarterbacks. They literally have to scrounge them from other teams to tell you the truth. Yeah. Well, that's the other thing too. They don't want to hear it.
Starting point is 00:21:58 That's just the way things are. Look, I'm just the messenger, okay? Well, that's the other thing, too. That's the other thing, too, about Baker, though, is that, like, this is the guy that made it so that your transition away from Tom Brady was so fucking easy. So that you guys were actually competitive for the following years after he left. Because that's the whole reason why you brought Tom Brady to begin with, because you actually had a good team.
Starting point is 00:22:27 You just didn't have the court. You had James Winston, and if he didn't throw 30 interceptions, yeah, you guys are a playoff team. But he threw 30 interceptions, so you went and got Tom fucking Brady, which, happy birthday to the goat, by the way. Yeah, devil. True. As we are recording, it is, in fact, Tom Brady's birthday. Yes. So it only makes sense that we're going to talk about Tom Brady and the Bucks, not the Patriots.
Starting point is 00:22:53 But, like, the whole reason why he brought Brady in was because the quarterback. play wasn't up to par. Lo and behold, you won a Super Bowl because of quarterback play. Baker Mayfield made it so that it was, you guys were still relevant and shit, almost made it to the NFC championship that first year.
Starting point is 00:23:14 Playoff contenders every year outside of each of the first two years, and last year it was kind of a shit show, but injuries happen. And shouldn't fucking can falter him for playing hurt because, I mean, maybe you should because now it's him playing hurt is an issue.
Starting point is 00:23:35 We can't have him play hurt because he will not, he will literally not take himself off the field. Other than that, he is the reason you guys are where you are competitive. Now it's true, man. Look, I love Baker. I mean, you know that. I'm a huge fan of baseball. Same here. I got an Oklahoma jersey.
Starting point is 00:24:01 But Baker, dude, you got to stop playing hurt for teams that blatantly don't appreciate it, man. I mean, I got nothing against, you know, toughing it out, but at least do it for a team that likes you. I mean, Cleveland just threw him under the bus when he did that. And it looks, I mean, maybe I could be wrong, but it just appears that Tampa is literally about to do the same thing. and I'm sorry, that's messed up. Yeah. Spin zone. Spin zone.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Maybe Tampa just knows what the fuck they're doing and they're like, yeah, let's light a fire under this motherfucker. Tampa knows what they're doing. Tampa knows what they're doing. That's a term. I'm not going to lie. That is a sentence that has been spoken. That is, wow. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:24:54 We should probably get our top ofymologist. on that and figure out why. Yeah. That's not you. It's just, I mean, I'm not making fun of you. It's like, wow. Never in my life.
Starting point is 00:25:08 Have I heard those words together? Yeah. No, Tampa is a joke. And that's, like I said, they, they're medically incapable of developing their own quarterback. So they, I said, they fucking mooch off the rest of the league.
Starting point is 00:25:24 Yeah. I'd say, it's true. The last quarterback that they tried to develop was James Winston. Yeah, but Bob, we love James, though. He's cool. But, yeah, kind of looking at this CBS Sports article, and it's also CBS Sports gives six teams that makes sense if the Buccaneers move on from Baker.
Starting point is 00:25:49 They won't. Would you like to? What's entertain? The Arizona Cardinals. I can see, yeah, that, that mean they make sense because they need. him but yes. Yeah, the first sentence is,
Starting point is 00:26:02 it seems like the most realistic option for Mayfield, if he becomes a free agent next offseason. You want me to read more? Yes, like, give me the teams. All right. Oh, I thought you're talking about like the rest of the description for the Cardinals.
Starting point is 00:26:22 The Falcon, the Atlanta Falcons. Ooh, going to a division rival is like peak petty, and I can see Baker doing that. Yeah. The Texans. Oh, yeah, I like that. I kind of like that, too.
Starting point is 00:26:39 The Vikings. Well, if Kyler doesn't work out and nine can't stop nining, then yes. You know, Baker would get the ball to Jettas. That he would. Yeah. The Jets. I would probably kill myself if Baker may if he'll want to the Jets. I could have to hate Baker if he did that because you know I was like just speaking as a
Starting point is 00:27:05 Pat's fan here but it would be sad because come on do you really think Baker is going to save the Jets no but like I don't want to root against Baker Mayfield for 17 games yeah it would just be career suicide yeah the Steelers Oh yeah, the QB Carousel keeps going, guys. Let's go. Never draft a quarterback. Billions must be mediocre. Like, that's what I think they're saying.
Starting point is 00:27:38 Woo. Woo. That was a, we're going to talk about training camp shenanigans later, but I saw one video of Will Howard, and it was basically, video of him dropping back to pass and he fucking sailed a ball terribly. I don't know if he was thrown to it, but it was a bad video.
Starting point is 00:28:05 Ohio State QB curses real kids. Unfortunately, unfortunately. It sucks, but you know, what are you going to do? Yeah. Another quarterback gets caught with OWI, DWI. He's drunk in public. Tony Romo catches an OWI. in Wisconsin leaving a golf tournament.
Starting point is 00:28:29 Well, yeah, I mean, it's Wisconsin. You know how they get down in Green Bay. Yeah, I want to get to that in a second. Actually, I'll get into it now. Do you know what the OWI or like DUI laws are in Wisconsin? No, I don't because I don't live there. I also don't drink and drive. True.
Starting point is 00:28:49 So, obviously depends on what it is, O-W-I-D-W-I-D-U-I. Very different. But for this specific thing, in OWI, it's a fine of $150 to $300 as the punishment in Wisconsin. Hmm. Fascinating. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:14 Yeah. But, yeah, probably the funnier thing that came out of it was the police body cam video of the investigation of the traffic stop. on Tony Romo and then having him do the field sobriety test. Did you see that? Oh my God. Yeah, I saw that was funny. Starting to stretch before doing the field test. So he knows.
Starting point is 00:29:38 He knows. But that cop, fuck that cop for not let him call his lawyer. What the fuck? Yeah, that was weird. Yeah. Weird behavior. But at least Tony Romo was respectful, unlike another quarterback that we know that was drunk in public.
Starting point is 00:30:00 Yeah. No. Yeah. Oh, Mark Sanchez. I mean, hey, I'd be a drinker too if I had to deal with the butt fumble. True. Lokey. And the fact that he got his ass handed to him, well, I mean, I know we started beating the guy,
Starting point is 00:30:14 but the fact that he got stabbed by like a DoorDash driver, like a, or a delivery driver is just funny to me. Yeah. You know, Mr. Big Bad athlete. Just, yeah, yeah, you're not knife proof, are you? Yeah. What are not being the final consequences for first? the sanchise i don't know it's doing a little
Starting point is 00:30:35 quick search mark sanchise give him that uh 198 what it was it uh not 194 it's uh give them that a clockwork orange
Starting point is 00:30:50 hold your eyes over to make them relive the butt fumble again and again and again yeah um trial was December 11th um
Starting point is 00:31:04 Um, trial has since been rescheduled from March. There was a later announced that there was a, uh, filing a civil suit against Sanchez and his former employer Fox Sports. Obviously, he's not affiliated with Fox Sports anymore. I actually didn't know that. Um,
Starting point is 00:31:26 let's check out to see if this brings me somewhere. Um, so this is great podcasting. Yeah, I know, but still, but Sanchez was, I just
Starting point is 00:31:40 He was out Guess the cash bond that he was out on Uh, $200,000? $300. Oh, come on. Come on. Ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:32:00 Holy ridiculous. Yeah. Um, oh, here we go. LA magazine, Mark Sanchez's criminal trial hits fifth delay after joint motion for continuance.
Starting point is 00:32:12 And this was on July 10th. 10th. I swear. That's crazy. What the hell? All right. Enough of Mark Sanchez. The real story here with the Tony Romo thing, I guess, is the, was put on a leaf.
Starting point is 00:32:32 It's suspended essentially by CBS. Now taking his place is JJ Watt. It'll be Jim Nance and J.J. Watt as the primetime CBS booth. I kind of like that. I like that a lot. And I don't even mind Tony. Romo in the booth ear. But JJ Watt really,
Starting point is 00:32:51 he brings that like, that real like, he's a, he's a fucking football guy. I would hope so. Well, he is. Good. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:33:04 he played in all and he's a future hall of famer. Yeah. But like, he just brings that football guy energy. Like, you know the energy I'm talking about. Oh, I,
Starting point is 00:33:14 I'm aware. Yeah. Chris. I'm very aware. where. The thoughts. I mean, yeah. Like,
Starting point is 00:33:27 that's, I got nothing. I'm not going to lie to you, Chris. I have nothing for the sole reason of, well, Mark Sanchez, what are you going to do? And,
Starting point is 00:33:42 you know, that's one thing. But Tony Romo, come on, man, you're better than this. Actually, I have a question
Starting point is 00:33:50 for you do do you think tony romo is back in a uh an NFL booth i hope i actually don't know that's a good question all i can say is i hope because tony robo it i just i tolerate him more than i do mark sanchez and come on that that if you watch the body cam footage it was so funny you know him doing the little back prescott warm-up so you know like it's great so good so I know, like, it's funny. It's kind of like, you know that meme about flirting versus harassment? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Where, like, an attractive guy hitting on his female co-worker,
Starting point is 00:34:32 but then an unattractive guy does it and it's like, and she doesn't like it, then that's how I feel about Tony Romo versus Mark Sanchez being drunk, although Mark Sanchez actually, like, attacked somebody and, you know, got stabbed. Yeah, yeah. That's actually that's true. funny. Like, Mr. Big Nat athlete literally, like, getting drunk and trying to pick on someone and attacks them and just get stabbed. Wow. What an absolute, what a loser. What a, what a, what a, what a, what a, just, what a douche. Yeah. But Tony Romo, he just, you know, just doing the field sobriety test. That's all you can ask of him. Yeah. You are Tony Romo. Yeah. And, uh, also weird question like totally unrelated but i know like you says on great podcasting but i got something i want to say
Starting point is 00:35:28 all right i've never done a field sobriety test because i'm not a huge drinker and i've never driven drunk in my life but i feel like when they ask if because i've heard tell that they ask you to say the alcohol they're nothing that they out for that backwards might i have to give you one now yeah no no i wish that'd be funny. But no, they ask you say the alphabet backwards. I've never understood that. I don't get it. Honestly God. I mean, you're more likely to fuck up pretty easily if you're inebrated compared to like sober, obviously, but like, oh no, but like I can't look, I, I'm not drunk right now. I, I don't have any alcohol in me. I'm, I'm tired, but if you're here nor there. But I can't do that. Like, I can't say the alphabet backwards. I literally can't. Yeah. I think if I
Starting point is 00:36:19 I think if I really try to lock in hard enough, like I could, especially sober, but like, I guess that's the idea is that you're more or less likely to get it correct because you're going to lock the fuck in sober compared to like drunk and you're just not like, you're inebriated. So you're just going to have like that, that confidence of having that booze in you to be like, oh yeah, I fucking got this.
Starting point is 00:36:45 Maybe, maybe. But like I said, so as all, because Tyrone didn't have to do that. I'm sure it'll be fine. Yeah. Well, in terms of other NFL news and training camp shenanigans, there's some good ones.
Starting point is 00:37:03 Did you see my who's the quarterback that that the Rams drafted? I'm blanking on his name. Ty Simpson? Ty Simpson, yeah. Did you see the video, the training camp video from Ty Simpson? I think it was today or
Starting point is 00:37:19 maybe over the weekend. No, I did not. Why don't you explain? It was just a classic like, classic like, you know, offense versus defense, reps and whatnot. And Simpson takes the ball and it's a pass play and he's
Starting point is 00:37:37 scrambling around. And it's one of those things where it's like, the defense is kind of giving up because they're not going to fucking hit the quarterback, right? And Simpson, he completes this pass after reversing, twice.
Starting point is 00:37:52 Completes the pass on the run and the caption on the video is like, Ty Simpson impressing at training camp today. Shut the fuck up. Dudes are giving up on the play. Shut up. It's training camp. My favorite video right now is the video of Patrick Mahomes. First train first practice back and beans is center in the back of that.
Starting point is 00:38:20 Oh, man. I think there was, I think Ghetto Gromk made a post about it. And it was like, fires a missile into the back of his center's head and then, and then dies of a fentanyl overdose. What? Because he, because he, like, bends over like he, like he's doing the fentanyl. You know what? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:44 Because, like, he bends over and like, what the fuck? Yeah. So these training camp videos just, like, genuinely funny. Yeah. I mean, more of this. We do. We do.
Starting point is 00:38:59 I mean, well, speaking of fucking shenanigans, AJ Brown dislocated this thumb. That was like, we can't have shit when it comes to wide receivers, man, we literally can't. Yeah. Well,
Starting point is 00:39:11 like, for those that live in Massachusetts, or at least like certain parts, like, at least for me, like, the AJ Brown thing was kind of the cherry on, like seeing that news,
Starting point is 00:39:23 because there's two things that were, just weird as hell this morning for me. And it was waking up to a flash flood. Because it started thunderstorming this morning in my house and my town. And all of a sudden, flash flood came in. And my yard's flooded because I got a brook in the backyard. Backyards flooded. Some water got into the basement.
Starting point is 00:39:49 It's a fucking shit show. And then I see the notification of AJ Brown dislocating. And so I'm like, what the fuck? I haven't, I haven't gotten my coffee yet. What the hell? But definitely, yeah, sounds like it's nothing to be worried about. Thank fucking God. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:11 I'm so happy it's not, but I can see it. Yeah. Like I said, it's like every time New England like gets like their hands on a good receiver, there's always like a tragic twist of fate or something or some. that are some bullshit that happens like, why? Yeah. Did you see the ESPN article about Romeo Dubs? No, I did not.
Starting point is 00:40:36 What's going on? Nothing crazy. He was wanted to just keep talking Patriots real quick. Basically talk about the energy is great, this and that, how he loves it already being on the team. I think it did. Good vibes. Great vibes to start.
Starting point is 00:40:55 I love to see that, especially from a new guy. Speaking of guys, new guys, not really new. Javion Clowny returning to the Texans, former number one overall pick in 2014. Two said Texans is coming home. 33 years old, last played with Houston in 2018, had visited the Cleveland Browns last week, which prompted Andrew Barry to,
Starting point is 00:41:25 tell reporters he was hopeful his team could strike a deal with the pass rusher. But Clowny told the Chronicle that he received several offers from teams that were interested in signing him in general. That actually just made me think of the Browns, something regarding the Browns. But thoughts on Jadayvian Clowny. He's got to be one of the most whelming players we've seen in a while. Like I said, he's not bad. He's just, he's a little welcoming. Probably the most, one of the most average, number one overall picks I've ever seen.
Starting point is 00:42:05 Yeah. You know, he's been reduced to a journeyman these days, which is weird because he was like really, he was solid at his peak. I think he made like three Pro Bowls. All right. I'm looking at his stats now. He has a career high nine and a half sacks. He's played for 12 seasons in the NFL, played in 153 games. started 133.
Starting point is 00:42:32 He has a career 450 combined tackles, 296 solo, 120 tackles for loss, 149 quarterback hits, 66 and a half sacks, 16 forced fumbles, 11 fumble recoveries, and one interception.
Starting point is 00:42:53 Yeah, no, it had been JJ Watt, those first couple of years. they were they were game records to say the least they were game records up until jaded and jadabion left but that's that was a scary fucking duo to say the least yeah he's just he's very wellming yeah very he's good but maybe he saw something left yeah also do you know what clownies nicknames are. I do not from the pro
Starting point is 00:43:33 football reference page. Yes. I love this. Do tell. It's doodoo. That is an actual nickname that he has. That and JD. It's literally JD or doodoo. And I Google this like, is that actually real? It's like, yes. It's an embarrassing childhood nickname given to him
Starting point is 00:43:55 when he was young, which was later revealed publicly by a college teammate. That's rough. How did it get that? Apparently, this is per 11 warriors.com, which is like, I think, some sports thing. On August 22nd, 2013, his father wants to name the boy David, but tradition in his mother's family dictate his name start with a J. She sold on Jadavia, but called him Doodoo after her favorite song. It's hook, Doodoo Brown, the brand new brother in town.
Starting point is 00:44:30 Yeah, boy don't say. He don't like it now. His mother, Joe Senna, Josina Clowny said, back then everybody just say, do-do, come here. He was a little boy. You never knew he was going to be,
Starting point is 00:44:44 like, the best player in college football. How could anyone on Carolina Avenue know anything like that? Oh. So he was named after a song. Thank God, because that could mean something else.
Starting point is 00:45:01 Yeah. Yeah. I mean, he could have had shit thrown. at him or something like that. Yeah, maybe. Yeah. Shit thrown on him. Now he's got
Starting point is 00:45:10 doo-doo on him. Everyone calls him doodoo, and he's probably like nine years old when it happens. Thankfully, it's not that. Yeah. Speaking of doo-doo, did you see Jared Verse, what he said? The other day, yesterday?
Starting point is 00:45:28 I forget. No. Now I'm scared. That has nothing to do with actual shit. I guess he went up to all the corners like Denzel Ward and those guys which by the way he didn't mention the extensions that the Brown secondary was getting but good good on them anyways I guess he went up to those guys and was like
Starting point is 00:45:53 hey man all you need to do is cover your guy for two seconds and then just turn and look to see where the ball is and it's either that's how being a quarter works and he's like and the ball and the result is either going to be quarterbacks on the ground or ball's
Starting point is 00:46:14 going to be in your hands shut the fuck do you know who you were traded for do you know who you were traded for yeah now if Miles Garrett said that yeah no I get that but okay Jared verse Jared not Miles Garrett
Starting point is 00:46:32 verse Okay silence Yeah Did you see Miles Garrett has missed a couple practices already? Yeah what was that about?
Starting point is 00:46:45 A little soreness in his lower half apparently Well you know you gotta make sure You know you gotta be 100% I totally get it you know You don't want to like trade for him And it turns out you're pushing him too hard Then something happens
Starting point is 00:46:59 Yeah And it's fucking training camp it's training camp also before we go did you see what will will levis levis said i did not uh i saw uh the most recent training camp video from uh regarding will levis it was pretty bad he he said that there are not 32 quarterbacks in the nfl that are better than him actually i did see this yes actually you know what hot take i think he's right there's not 32 that not Don't. At least 64.
Starting point is 00:47:34 CJ, don't. Oh, I see what you're going. What? Wait, you're saying there's 64 quarterbacks better than them? Yes. I was a. Oh, there's not 32. That number is much higher.
Starting point is 00:47:49 Yeah. Yeah. You're definitely right about that. No, there was a training camp video that I saw. It was Cam Ward, Mitch Trubisky, and Will Levis doing a throwing. doing passing drill, basically just on the move, thrown out a net, like the net with the pockets. And Cam Ward kind of does it.
Starting point is 00:48:13 He's like thrown on the run. Mitch Rubiskey does it. He's getting set and throwing. He was the most accurate one of the three. Will Levis steps up, completely misses the net the first one, misses the target badly, the second or third one. Goes to the next part. Misses the net badly again.
Starting point is 00:48:32 and then is able to hit the target the second time, but it was like, holy moly. Yeah. And that was the first round pick. No, he wasn't. Second round pick, fuck. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:49 That's a second round pick right there, folks. A projected top ten pick for some whatever reason. Still don't. Still don't understand that. All right. I feel like there was something else that I had on my. my mind in regards to training camp shenan. I'm
Starting point is 00:49:13 not a mind reader. I would not know such things. Do you have anything else on your mind in terms of training camps shenanigans? Oh, the Bengals were fighting actually. You see that club? Yeah, I did. Yeah, yeah. I didn't really I watched it once and I just kept scrolling.
Starting point is 00:49:29 Yeah, I didn't really look into that. Let's look into that a little bit here. Bengals. And it was like Um, Jamar Chase on Cincinnati Bengals training camp scuffle Iowa sports.
Starting point is 00:49:45 In like either the same week or same day, um, he beat like, Shamar Stewart hyper extends his leg and everyone's like, fuck, he just tore his ACL. Um, let's see.
Starting point is 00:50:00 This is what Jamar Chase had to say. Uh, no for real. It's just, it's really football at the end of the day. It happens. Um, Got to bounce back.
Starting point is 00:50:09 It's competitiveness. I think that guys were just chirping at each other and it flew off the wall. Yeah. Don't need to read too much into that. But hey, guys are competing. Shit. I mean, the O3 Patriots, their training camp basically start with Rodney Harrison starting a massive fucking fight. Yeah, no, I agree.
Starting point is 00:50:36 Didn't he start that with, like, Troy Brown? I believe so, yes. Yeah. It was like Troy Brown and Kevin Falk that he was going after. Yeah, Troy Brown, you know, the family guy character. Yeah. Yeah. That's legend Troy Brown. I have a silver like coin of silver Troy Brown coin. I have a 90s blue Troy Brown jersey, actually, if you can believe it. Oh, that's sec. You want to see the coin real quick?
Starting point is 00:51:10 Sure. Well, I mean, not though. If you're listening on the podcast. Yeah, I mean. Troy Brown coin is my favorite legal tender. Get him on the $20 bill stats. Yeah. No, that's cool. It has his career stats on the back as well. I forgot he went to Marshall.
Starting point is 00:51:31 Yeah, Marshall legend Troy Brown. Eighth round pick. Yeah, back when the league was weird and had more than seven rounds. I disagree with that. I don't like it. Yeah. What, that it's seven rounds or that it was more? than seven rounds.
Starting point is 00:51:46 That was more than seven rounds. Oh, yeah. Well, I don't know if you saw what baseball was doing. They're doing it. They just, and their thing of, like, having 20 rounds or whatever it is, they're shrinking it to, like, less than 15, I'm pretty sure. Good. Let me, this will be the last thing I look up.
Starting point is 00:52:12 You know, baseball kind of gay because, you know, you know, all those guys are like the, the minors. right and you know there's like triple A double A I think there's like two kinds of A's there's like high A and like single A like whatever So yeah I kind of get you need to keep multiple rosters full But come on There doesn't need to be six cajillion rounds
Starting point is 00:52:38 You know? Yeah So here's what it was So it used to be 40 plus rounds And then it got shrunk down to 20 rounds Guess when that was guess when that was I don't know, like the 70s? 2,021.
Starting point is 00:52:55 Oh, whoa. The short to spend was five rounds, and that was during COVID. But there's a new proposal for the upcoming CBA that will reduce it from 20 to 12. No, I don't know, 15, I think should be fine. Yeah, 15. I think 15 is a good number. All right. Well, that's all the scheduled content that we have for you today.
Starting point is 00:53:26 Football is back. Football is officially done. Hall of Fame games on Thursday with the Carolina Panthers taking on the Arizona Cardinals. 8 o'clock kickoff on NBC. Carolina is the favorite at 1.5. The over-under is 36 and a half. You know there's going to be some motherfuckers gambling on this. game. What do we got? What's your pick?
Starting point is 00:53:57 I am not betting on the Hall of Fame game, Chris. There's some degenerates. Hey, my friends are degenerates. They're betting on this shit. I believe you. Yeah. Now, the NFL, the Hall of Fame game is always great just to watch some football, but don't expect to see Bryce Young. Maybe for like a drive. Or in that, it's just a lovely scrimmage
Starting point is 00:54:21 for the third stringers. Yeah. Yeah. When's the Hall of Fame ceremony? Wednesday? Yeah, you know, hey, got to make those bubble guys prove it. I tell you what. True.
Starting point is 00:54:41 NFL Hall of Fame ceremony. Excuse me. This coming Saturday at noon is going to be the Hall of Fame and Shrine ceremony. Interesting. It's starting at noon. But gold jacket dinner on Friday and trim and ceremony on Saturday. Concert for the Legends on Sunday featuring Laney Wilson.
Starting point is 00:55:09 But Drew Brees, Larry Fitzgerald, Luke Keekeley, Adam Venturi, and Roger Craig, all being inducted into the pro football Hall of Fame. Congratulations to those, fellas. And you know what? Maybe if there's a memorable moment from Hall of Fame game or the Hall of Fame ceremony, we'll bring it up on Monday. All on that. That'll do it for us today.
