Starting point is 00:00:00 Here's Edelman broken up and the pass is no sign yet. Edelman comes down with a football and they're saying it's a catch. It's a catch! Today's side-line touchdown! Unbelievable! It's a catch! It's a catch! To Gates! Side-line! Touchdown! Unbelievable! Swings it way down the field to Watkins!
Starting point is 00:00:34 Sammy Watkins for the touchdown! Good evening. You are listening to the Fumble Ruski podcast by Power 88 Dean Radio and Seager Weapon Consulting. I'm your host, CJ Medeiros, with my good friend, Justin Tucker, and a very, very special guest, our dear friend of the show, Robert Shelley. He is better. And Robert, so we've grown in following since the last time you were on. So for some of our new listeners, why don't you introduce yourself? Okay.
Starting point is 00:01:19 For those who don't know, you're going to learn sooner or later. All right. Been gone for 10 months out of the internet's eye. But, you know, we're back. The jet flying, limousine riding, kiss stealing, wheeling dealing, whoa, sexy boy. How y'all doing? Robert Shelley used to go to college with these boys. Now finally back in the podcasting world. That's about the best I got. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:01:43 I already regret this. No, I'm joking, Robert. Robert, I'm joking. You like the Ric Flair reference? I can't. I like the rick flair reference i can't i'll mess with you i'll mess with you so we do have two interesting topics to talk about both regarding quarterbacks we're going to tackle jimmy g's health woes but first we have the the downright laughable quarterback battle with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers between Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask. Now, if you haven't seen the videos online, I recommend you do because it's downright awful.
Starting point is 00:02:19 They're overthrowing guys left and right, like nothing's in sync. It's hilarious. So, Robert, since you're the guest uh would you care to kick us off mike evans is down bad right now that's all i gotta say someone someone go rescue my boy that's about it the only thing that i've learned from all this is there's no right answer there's one pro for starting Baker Mayfield and there's one pro for starting.
Starting point is 00:02:48 What's his name again? Kyle. I kept thinking Trey Lance. I don't know why there's one pro for each of them. The pro for Kyle Trask is he's young. That's it. That's literally it. The only pro for Baker Mayfield is you're actually paying the guy,
Starting point is 00:03:07 and you don't want to be paying him to be sitting on a bench. Maybe you can value that money as a mentor. I don't know. But those are the only two. Both of them, overthrowing guys. And I can't even say they're going to start relying on a run game now. They can't do that either. They let go ofard fournette who's their who's their running back right now i couldn't name them off the top of my head is it rashad white i want to say
Starting point is 00:03:32 is it chris vaughn i have no idea hold on i'm gonna all right you guys keep going i am going to look up their roster right now we're're going to see what we can see. I know it's not good. It's because they're in the NFC South and it's abysmal right now. I have all their running backs. Ready?
Starting point is 00:03:56 Ronnie Brown, whoever that is. Patrick Laird. Chase Edmonds, and rookie from Syracuse, Sean Tucker. We've got Keyshawn Vaughn
Starting point is 00:04:15 and Rashad White, second-year man out of Arizona State. Those are your running backs. Are you sure you didn't just list off a random XFL team? I am fairly certain. CFL? Closer, but probably not.
Starting point is 00:04:32 No, this can't be. This is like an AAF team. Jesus. So the one problem with all of this is it might not even matter. They still might win the division. Yes. Out of that division right now my bet is on atlanta but in terms of those four teams carolina's not going to do anything because every rookie qb
Starting point is 00:04:51 they're going to go through those growing pains obviously new orleans derrick carr that's all i gotta say atlanta you made a bunch of free agencies you got bijan robinson which is still a pick for the eighth overall pick but you know still they they have a well-rounded team okay and especially because who's who's going to start there your pro bowler cordell patterson or your eighth overall pick you know but that's not what we're talking about they made some good free agent signings and then that leaves the tampa buccaneers either way it's either Baker Mayfield goes back to, what, 2019? Was that the last time he was good before the show?
Starting point is 00:05:29 Yes, yes. Oh, yeah, because they beat the Steelers in the playoffs. Yeah, 2020. Okay, so is he going to go back to being 2020 Baker Mayfield? Probably not. And this team, the 2020 Browns are much better than the 2023 buccaneers
Starting point is 00:05:47 okay i'll say that right now so there's no real i don't think there's a real right answer there's just two wrong answers but i think the less wrong answer is starting kyle trask and just letting him ride it's like putting davis mills in. It's an effort move. We're going to lose. Let's lose with style. Lose with style? Lose with style, okay? I just wish Baker Mayfield would actually play good just to stick it to Browns fans everywhere. I really want him to do well, but it's becoming painful to watch this man play quarterback right now. He's on his fourth team in, what, six years? Seven years? Something like that.
Starting point is 00:06:28 No. Number one overall pick. He's on his fourth team in, like, three. Oh, yes, but I'm talking about whole career. Whole career. I'm talking about. Oh, okay. Ever since he was drafted in, what, 2016?
Starting point is 00:06:40 18. 18, yeah. So, four teams in five years. And I get it. One of those was for two games on an absolute crap team but you know point still stands this i don't yeah i don't even the fact that kyle trask can't beat him out means that i don't even want kyle trask on the team either because he's playing awful you know tucker let me tell you something about Kyle Trask. You didn't really know me when he was drafted. None of you did.
Starting point is 00:07:10 But let me tell you, I was never, even when he was in college, I was never a Kyle Trask fan. I thought that he was way overhyped, and he benefited greatly from a roster that featured Kadarius Toney and Kyle Pitts. And he had some of the worst intangibles I've ever seen. And the fact he got drafted in the second round means that at some point you're going to have to throw him in. And when you do, I'm expecting a Chernobyl-level disaster. I truly believe he should not have been drafted where he was.
Starting point is 00:07:43 I personally had like a fifth-round grade on him, but everybody else loved him. It was like, oh, look at how good he was. He was truly a product of that offense. And plain and simple, he's not going to cut it in the NFL, and the Bucs are handcuffed to him because they spent an early second-round pick on him. There, that's my TED Talk.
Starting point is 00:08:04 I mean, what you're saying isn is it wrong i didn't really know much kyle trask when he was in college i just have a buddy who's a diehard florida fan who loves him and whenever him and i would play co-op man together we would play as the buccaneers and swap out brady for kyle trask that's disgusting so so in my defense i ran the defense he ran the offense because that's how or Kyle Trask. That's disgusting. Disgusting. So in my defense, I ran the defense. He ran the offense because that's how Madden Co-op works, right? And he would purposely go in there and take Tom Brady out of every single formation and put Kyle Trask in instead.
Starting point is 00:08:40 Now, mind you, him and I are really, really good at the game, so we'd be whooping everyone without that. We'd go on like 20-game win streaks. But with Kyle Trask as our QB, yes. And we'd be fine. But in terms of just, yeah, I couldn't agree more with what CJ had said. It's just gross. But really, have we seen that much better in the past year and a half
Starting point is 00:09:04 from Baker Mayfield since the Carolina days? Have we seen that much better in the past year and a half from Baker Mayfield since the Carolina days? Have we seen anything better? Yes. The fact that he's on the field to show it means he's shown more. No, that's not how that works. Just because if I were to go and step on the field for six games, would you still call me better than Kyle Trask because I stepped on the field and he didn't? All right. Yes, because the way Baker played against – I want to say – what's McCullough? Denver.
Starting point is 00:09:33 When he played against Denver, he actually showed flashes. He could be a competent quarterback. I'm not sure if it's the Los Angeles Rams, or I'm not sure if it's Baker actually being Baker again. I don't know what it is. In 2018 and 2020, when he was the quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, he was solid. Now all of a sudden he forgot how to play offense,
Starting point is 00:09:55 forgot how to play quarterback, and now he's on his fourth team in five years. This is bad. This is very bad for Baker. I mean, for Baker last year, just for a little reference for the audience, 10 games started, 2-8 record, 10 touchdowns, 12 picks, or 8 picks. Former first overall pick, everyone. Former first overall pick. That's terrible.
Starting point is 00:10:23 And even with the Rams, in the four games he started with the Rams, he was one and three. But four touchdowns, two picks. He had won one game with the Rams. Now, was the Rams a good team? Hell no. Did he help? Hell no.
Starting point is 00:10:39 I really – hold on, wait. I'm not sure which game it was, but I felt like he led like a fourth-quarter comeback drive. Oh, I know that game. Was it against the – oh, I know what game you're talking about. Was it against the – was it the Packers? No, it wasn't the Packers. I want to say Raiders, but I'm not sure.
Starting point is 00:10:58 It might have been. Okay, okay. I just saw something that I need your full undivided attention on, okay? Baker Mayfield's QBR last year was 24.5. Oh, that's bad. So without even touching the field, Kyle Trask had a better season than Baker Mayfield last year. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Justin.
Starting point is 00:11:23 This is unbelievable. I'm still going Baker, but you guys can have it. If Kyle Trask is the better quarterback, it's over, Baker. It's over. Take the L out of love. It's over. That's the truth. Let's see.
Starting point is 00:11:38 Kyle Trask's 2022 QBR was 42.4. Okay? 2022 QBR was 42.4. Okay. Now that is on zero touchdowns, zero interceptions, one game played, three for nine passing, which is also atrocious. Okay. Legitimate,
Starting point is 00:12:00 legitimate question though. All right. Would you rather have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback room or the Washington Commies QB room? Please discuss. Commanders, and it's not close because at least you have Jacoby Brissett. Commanders. Commanders.
Starting point is 00:12:15 True, true. I would like to formally apologize to Jacoby Brissett. I forgot that you signed for that hellhole. All right. But the starting quarterback there still is Sam Howell. I really thought Jacoby Bursette would go in as the starting quarterback. Right now, the QB they're planning on starting with is Sam Howell.
Starting point is 00:12:34 Then why did you sign Bursette? Backup mentor. Maybe the same reason they signed Baker. Wow. Wow. Wow. R. Wow. Wow. This is
Starting point is 00:12:47 RIP to Jacoby Brissett. Salute one time for the one time. Salute, Jacoby Brissett. I'm not saluting. Because you're a Ravens fan. I'm not. Hold on. I will say one thing, though, about the, not the commanders,
Starting point is 00:13:04 the Buccaneers. how sad is it how you're literally going from tom brady who even in his age 86 season it feels like was still a top 10 quarterback to baker mayfield who's already halfway out of the league, and Kyle Trask, who never should have been taken that high. It's like that's a massive downgrade. The lowest of the lows right now. I mean, you had kind of the same thing. I have a feeling this was the reason he was taken was just because of Brady's days in New England, right?
Starting point is 00:13:44 Because who was taken with a second a second round pick by the patriots as was going to be the successor of tom braden somebody we're going to talk about later league exactly all right the sexy male model himself jimmy jesus okay so that's about all his accomplishments but besides the one super bowl run but interesting so so actually robert basically gave us a really good teaser to what we're talking about next uh jimmy g you know he just signed a big deal with the raiders this offseason raiders passed on going quarterback in the first round. And well, they very well might pay for it because Jimmy G is hurt again. What else is new? And you're not going to want to miss that. So don't go anywhere. This is the Fumble Rooski podcast. Here's Edelman broken up and the pass is no sign yet.
Starting point is 00:14:54 Edelman comes down with a football and they're saying it's a catch. It's a catch! To Gates! Sideline! Touchdown! Takes! Side-line! Touchdown! Unbelievable! Slings it way down the field to Watkins! Sammy Watkins for the touchdown!
Starting point is 00:15:22 Welcome back to the Fumble Rooski podcast. I am CJ Medeiros with my good friends, Justin Tucker and Robert Shelley. Fumble Rooski, of course, powered by PowerD8D Radio and Secret Weapon Consulting. So we're jumping back into this with Jimmy G once again facing health issues. So as I mentioned earlier, Jimmy G g he signed what was it like a three year 60 something million dollar deal this offseason with the las vegas raiders like i said they passed on going quarterback in the first round and now there's a very real chance he might get waived so once again robert you're the guest guest please kick us off so if you look up right
Starting point is 00:16:08 Jimmy G's injury the first thing that comes up from yesterday from CBS Sports is Tom Brady's tops list of Raiders QB options if Jimmy G gets cut due to his foot injury and there is a lot to divulge in that one sentence. First of all, Tom Brady put in a thing to the NFL saying that he was retired for good. There's that whole thing with J.J. Watts saying, yeah, I'm not putting in a thing, but I'm definitely retired. But that's a question in itself. How long is he going to be hurt? Is he going to get cut and are you just going to throw tens of millions of dollars down the drain that quickly hold on you you brought in jimmy g
Starting point is 00:16:53 why lord knows if you wanted to move on from derrick carr why did you get derrick carr 2.0 why'd you just get the better looking derrick Carr? Okay? Have you guys ever heard the theory that you could put almost any quarterback in the league and base him on a scale of Kirk Cousins? Oh, I have seen that, yeah. Why did you get two guys that are perfectly on that scale of Kirk Cousins? They're the same person, all three. Kirk Cousins, Jimmy D, Derek Carr. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:17:24 They're all the same quarterback kirk cousins is better salute my boy one time you like that right kirk cousins is better yes kirk cousins is better than both but realistically you went from derrick carr i don't know how i kirk cousins of that i went on a tangent i apologize but anyway you went from derrick carr who is mid at best this isn't 2016 borderline mvp derrick carr for the first eight games this is 2023 not good derrick carr and overpaid for a slightly worse version of him that is completely injury prone this roster isn't competing for anything outside of Devontae Adams and Max Crosby and borderline MVP Josh Jacobs. You have nothing else on this team. I'm sorry, but three guys can't make a 53-man roster.
Starting point is 00:18:13 Yeah. And so here's the thing with Jimmy G. There's whispers that, so you know, if he fails a physical, they could actually void his contract and waive him. And so let's just say worse comes to worse. Jimmy G's contract's voided. You don't get a cap penalty, but you're down one starting quarterback. For those who don't know, here are the other quarterbacks on their roster. The fossil himself, Brian Hoyer, Purdue rookie Aiden O'Connell,
Starting point is 00:18:51 and a Madden-generated player by the name of Chase Garbers, whoever that may be. What happened to Jared Stidham? He signed with Denver, I believe. Yes, he is fighting for the QB1 job over in Denver. And I mean that. Okay. No, no.
Starting point is 00:19:08 He's fighting for it. All right. The city almost burned down because of freaking Russell Wilson. Okay. Let's ride. Yes. And they had a banner. I used to live two miles outside of the stadium, right?
Starting point is 00:19:22 Right outside of Empower. They had a banner on Empower Stadium that said, Broncos country, let's ride. And it had a picture of Russell Wilson and Justin Simmons on it. By week 15, they took that thing down. They were ashamed. Okay? Good.
Starting point is 00:19:36 They should be. They are. All right? The only thing that this place has riding on is the avalanche who choked and the Nuggets who can hopefully win the finals. The Rockies suck. We believe in Denver. Rick rick feeler i don't believe in denver i like all the nuggets here oh the nuggets yes i think oh no i believe in the nuggets but in terms of the broncos no i like the team because i live here that's about it. And so I just want to say one thing.
Starting point is 00:20:07 I hate the whole, can Tom Brady come back? Like Tom Brady literally filed the paperwork. He's done. Stop. Yes. Just stop it. Let him go collect his AARP checks. It's time.
Starting point is 00:20:20 Oh my God. Time to go. One piece of information that's good to know here when talking about this. When Garoppolo signed with the team in March, he technically failed his physical due to an injured left foot, but the Raiders gave him an injury waiver and signed him anyway. The two sides added an addendum to Jimmy G's contract that the Raiders can cut him at no cost if he can't pass
Starting point is 00:20:46 his physical. On the other hand, if he does pass a physical, Jimmy G will need to play at least one game without re-injuring his foot before the rest of his $22.5 million salary becomes guaranteed. Yeah, yeah. That's actually a really smart move by the Raiders because all offseason we did hear things that his foot allegedly didn't heal right. And that's something I've also heard. Like, he got surgery, but it just didn't heal right. And now, like, what do you do if you're the Raiders? Because your division is very strong.
Starting point is 00:21:21 You've got the reigning champ Kansas City Chiefs, the Broncos, who just made some serious adjustments, and the Chargers, who they're the Chargers, but they're still better than you. And if you're the Raiders, what are you going to do to compete? Just hope the rest of the AFC sucks so you can sneak in as the seventh seed? They're not going to sneak in. They can't.
Starting point is 00:21:44 There are three more options that you didn't mention that could possibly be in the running for this job. Do not say Tom Brady. No, not Tom Brady. Oh, good. This guy was a – was he the number two overall pick? Almost an MVP at one point, but now absolutely sucks. a, was he the number two overall pick? Almost an MVP at one point,
Starting point is 00:22:07 but now absolutely sucks. You better not say Marcus Mariota. No. Marcus Mariota was never a borderline MVP. Yeah, that's what I was going to say. 2018. Matt Ryan? That's one of the options down the board. Now Ryan is one of the options
Starting point is 00:22:23 later, yes. No, he wasn't a number two, sorry. Oh, who? Carson Wentz. Oh, ooh. Yeah, remember he exists? Barely. I don't know. He looks like that runner, Ginger, from the UK.
Starting point is 00:22:43 I forget his name. Prince Eric? Yeah, so that's one of the possibilities. I forget his name. Prince Eric? Yeah, so that's one of the possibilities. Matt Ryan. And then the last one, my favorite. Don't. Teddy Bridgewater. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:22:53 Okay, that's reasonable. That's reasonable. And honestly, I think Teddy Bridgewater deserves another chance. Yeah, he's their best option by far. Matt Ryan is cooked. Carson Wentz is cooked. And Teddy Bridgewater can at least throw a football with some accuracy. Hey, here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:23:12 I will not say a bad word about Matt Ryan because he went to Boston College. All right, BC Eagles represent one time. All right, they're the better dean college. Don't even start with me. Both of you know it. It's true. It's damn true. Yeah, every school's the better Dean College. Don't even start with me. Both of you know it. It's true. It's damn true. Yeah, every school's the better Dean College.
Starting point is 00:23:29 I was about to say, well, what are we talking about here? All due respect to my alma mater, but it's not like we're world beaters over here. They better be better than us. We're D3. Yeah. What are we doing? With our 1,200 students. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:44 My graduating class is like 250 there but yeah so everyone masks on so i would like to touch on some of like the rumors that have been coming out so here's one from bleacher report they floated a hypothetical trade lance trade Now talk about high risk, high reward. Maybe. I mean, it makes sense, but it doesn't at the same time. I'm not sure if the 49ers would be interested. I mean, how much, that's the question is what Trey Lance's value is right now.
Starting point is 00:24:21 If the 49ers are completely undervaluing him and they're like, okay, I'll take a second or a third round pick for him i would jump on that in a heartbeat and i would i would give up uh probably a third round pick right now for a possibility of having trey lance the 49ers have made it clear that their starting quarterback as of right now is brock purdy and they want to keep it that way. He's proven himself. And honestly, he could throw anybody back for now, yes. But it's looking like he's going to be ready for the start of the year. It is not a good time to be a quarterback for the 49ers, though.
Starting point is 00:24:58 Yeah, it never is. Sign the contract. Get through the rookie contract. Then get out of there and make your money. About all I could say. Before you die. Before you die. The only thing I got left to say is,
Starting point is 00:25:13 porn star Jimmy has a limp and can't perform. That's the only thing I got left to say. Oh. It's all right, Tucker. You've been forgiven. Hey, he's a male model for a reason. That was a bad joke yes it was
Starting point is 00:25:27 I like it forget it I like it that's alright like I said you're gonna be forgiven for it so it's all well and good Adam's not gonna like it but you know well he's not here you know
Starting point is 00:25:43 maybe if he showed up, he could have prevented this. Me personally, though I voice my displeasure at this, you know, I believe in having fun on the show. I mean, that's not a slight toward Adam at all. I'm just saying what I believe. No, it 100% is. And when Adam gets to this, when Adam's listening
Starting point is 00:25:59 to this podcast and he gets to this part, he can know to kiss my behind. All right? Adam, I've taken over. Okay he can know to kiss my behind. All right. We don't care. Adam, I've taken over. Okay. You know where to be found. I'm the captain now.
Starting point is 00:26:10 Okay. Yeah. That's interesting. Interesting. Well then captain, does anyone have anything else to say before we wrap up? Where do you guys think D-Hop will go? I've heard,
Starting point is 00:26:24 I just read actually while we were doing the show that the Bills and the Chiefs are, quote, in an arms race for him. My question is with what money? But, you know, what do I know? Chiefs can restructure Patrick Mahomes' contract a little bit. Yeah, but doesn't they want to
Starting point is 00:26:40 give him more money? Well, yes. Both are about a million in cap space right now, but both can sign him to like a giant incentive-based deal that he will obviously get to because he's DeAndre Hopkins, will actually be with a Pro Bowl quarterback. So he'll be fine with an entirely incentives-based deal. And he'll work with a toddler.
Starting point is 00:27:06 Yeah, allegedly it's been a four-way race between Buffalo, Kansas City, New England, and Baltimore. And the only reason New England is even in the running is because they can actually afford him. And because they had Bill Belichick and John Trapp into the whole conversation and we gave him money. Not to mention there's no way on God's green earth that he's going to Baltimore. Oh,
Starting point is 00:27:35 there's a well-known. It's possible, but I don't see that. I feel like it's the least likely. They just spent $20 million on a broken Odell Beckham Jr. They really did. And they just spent $40 million a year on their franchise quarterback. Again, I feel like of all the teams, Baltimore is the least likely.
Starting point is 00:27:55 There's more pressing needs. We have more money than the Kansas City Chiefs. That's not saying much. They have a million dollars. The Chiefs have a million dollars. That means we have a million dollars. The Chiefs have a million dollars. That means we have a better chance. No, we have a better chance. Then technically New England has the best chance because we have more money
Starting point is 00:28:12 than you. See your logic? Do you understand how stupid your logic is? Bill O'Brien on your team. You think DeAndre Hopkins wants to play for you? As an offensive coordinator, not a GM. You really think he'll get along either or? Yes. Probably. Because last I checked, as an offensive coordinator, not a GM. You really think they'll get along either or? Yes.
Starting point is 00:28:26 Probably. Because last I checked as an offensive coordinator, Bill O'Brien led this team to a almost undefeated season. Am I right or am I wrong? Almost. No, you're right. Almost. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:39 Better season than you've ever had, but whatever, Tucker. We have a Super Bowl winning season on our resume, so it really doesn't matter. Yeah. Don't play with me ever. But on that happy note, I'm afraid we're going to have to wrap up. So that'll do it for us tonight. Thanks for listening to us.
