Starting point is 00:00:00 Good morning, everyone. Happy Thursday. Hope you are having an excellent beginning to your Thursday or whatever day you are listening to this. I wanted to talk about a different subject today that I realize I get like this emotional reaction when I see stuff all over the Instagram and the social media. And it's kind of one quote, which you may have heard people say, which is no one will outwork me. I'll never let anyone outwork me. And I have, have such a fundamental issue with this and I did I was like I didn't realize how much it bothered me until like I had like two or three people in a row that I saw um write this on their Instagram like no one will outwork me I'll outwork anyone and um it just bug the crap out of me and so I was like
Starting point is 00:00:44 why does this bug me and I think that I hate absolutes in general and it's because like when you say that you fundamentally are admitting that you have no idea whatever like you have no idea whatever else in the world is doing and so saying that no one else will outwork you I just think is like stupid. That's just like, no disrespect to anyone who said it. It's just like for me, like maybe you're saying it to yourself because you want to say it to yourself, but to say it publicly seems odd to me. And so like just as a basic outline, like Jack Ma, who basically runs China's version
Starting point is 00:01:19 of Amazon, like in his company, it's very standard to run a 996, meaning you work from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. 6 days week, right? That is the standard. That is par for course. And I can tell you that fucking 90% of Americans that I even see doing that are working 50 hours a week. And they're saying, no, I'm not work me. I'm like, your best is China's standard.
Starting point is 00:01:44 It's just, is normal. Like, no one's even getting, like, clap in their hands. They're just like, this is just what we do. Right. Which kind of brings me to another point, which is, I think that a lot of times, we massively underestimate how much our work capacity is. And so when I see people say, like, no one will out work me. And then I see them even take a single vacation.
Starting point is 00:02:05 I'm like, there's somebody who is not taking a vacation right now, who is outworking so please don't say that. Right. Like, it's, it should like, in my opinion, it should be like, no one will out-sacrifice me. No one will give up more than me for my goal, right? No one will put more things on this altar to the altar of sacrifice for my goal, then I will.
Starting point is 00:02:29 And I think that's a more realistic way to do it. Now, what happens is it starts to get really ugly when you start really thinking about it. It's like, will I sacrifice my marriage? Will I sacrifice my kids, my relationship with my kids? Well, I sacrifice my health. There are all these things that we put on the altar because the thing is, if you say no one will outwork you, that means that there's somebody out there and their fucking is who will put their marriage, who will put their kids' relationship, who will put their
Starting point is 00:02:56 health on the altar to achieve what they want. And if you're not doing that, then no, you're not outworking that. Right. And so just don't say that. Okay. Now, I'm not saying you should. I'm saying you should be cognizant of what you're trying to make your goal to be. All right.
Starting point is 00:03:11 And so the next kind of point here is that most people who really work the most don't even think about it. They don't even consider it work. Right. And so the difference is, so I talked to, about this all the time because he worked with so many champions and so many Olympians and whatnot. He's like the difference between Olympians and champions and everyone else is not, like everyone looks at them and says, what do they have that I don't have? He's like, when in reality
Starting point is 00:03:39 is, what do I have that they don't have? And what it means is they lack something. They lack an off switch. They lack a constraint, right? It's like we all have the same engine. They don't have brakes. That is the difference. And so the reality is that the people who are the champions typically have pathology that goes along with that, which means that they have obsessive personalities. They have massive issues because they cannot stop. They don't even perceive time. They don't perceive work or the concept of work.
Starting point is 00:04:14 And so every time that you are willing yourself and making that motivational post to yourself to say, I'm still working, no one will outwork me, they don't give a shit because they're working and they're not even thinking about it. Right. And so while you're like, you're like, yeah, they're just doing still, right? They're still working nine to nine, six days a week in China, not even thinking about what we're doing because that's just normal there. Right. And so one of the things that I said really early on in my career, because things started going well with the gym, and people would ask me, they're like, so what are you doing?
Starting point is 00:04:46 Like, how's it working? How's it growing? All that stuff. And I remember, I always used to respond with the same thing that I haven't said in a while, which is I was like, you'd be amazing. what you can accomplish when you have no choice. And people are like, how are you working so many hours? Right? Because I was, I was up at three, and I was going to bed at 11.
Starting point is 00:05:04 And I did that for probably a six month period in the beginning. And I was like, I wasn't showering. I wasn't working out. Like, it was very hard for me. And I just, all I could remember thinking, and I hope this doesn't offend anyone. And if you are offended, then I apologize. But like, I kept thinking about the most vicious atrocities
Starting point is 00:05:21 of humanity. And this really actually motivated me. Because I try not to think that I'm better than anyone, but I try to think that I'm just as good as anybody else. Right? And so if I saw that back in the days of slavery, there were like everyone got a few hours off on Sunday or whatever, and they were working all day long, physically, manual labor,
Starting point is 00:05:43 and that was an entire, it was generations of this level of work and level of effort. And the thing is that you'd be amazed at what you can accomplish when you have no choice. There was no choice. The choice was work or die, right? And so what's interesting is that we actually have the same choice, right? Work or die, grow or die.
Starting point is 00:06:05 Because the thing is that the alternative is usually not accomplishing our dreams, right? And a lot of times that can feel like death. Obviously, it was much more obvious in those situations in the past than probably much harder. But the reality is that like the choice is still ours. You know what I mean? And when I see that so many people, were able to work at that level, it means that that level of work is possible. It's just whether you have the discipline to pursue that.
Starting point is 00:06:31 And more so, the willingness to sacrifice things that other people aren't willing to sacrifice. And so real quick, guys, you guys already know that I don't run any ads on this and I don't sell anything. And so the only ask that I can ever have of you guys is that you help me spread the words so we can out more entrepreneurs, make more money, feed their families, make better products, and have better experiences for their employees and customers. And the only way we do that is if you can rate, and review and share this podcast.
Starting point is 00:06:58 So the single thing that I asked you do is you can just leave a review, but take you 10 seconds or one type of the thumb, it would mean the absolute world to me. And more importantly, it may change the world with someone else. To bring this full loop of like, well, like, well, I can't say no one's going to outwork me. Like, what do I make the goal? Like, A, I'm not saying I'm some, I know the answer here. I'm purposely saying that I hate that saying because there's, A, there's no way you know anyone else.
Starting point is 00:07:25 like that of the seven billion people, that's right, no one will outwork you. No one, right? Even the people who don't even know they're working, even the people in labor camps, like, no one will outwork you. I just think it's ill-informed or you're just saying it to make an impression. But the real real is it might be better to think no one will out-sacrifice. Now, that's where you get into issues because, like, maybe there are things that you don't want to give up.
Starting point is 00:07:54 And so then in that case, it's like, well, then maybe you just don't say that. Maybe you just try and do the best with what you have and do it within the confines of what you want and what you're willing to trade to be successful. Maybe you're not willing to trade your marriage. There is someone who is willing to trade their marriage to be more successful. There is someone who will trade their relationship with their kids to be more successful. You see it all the time. There are people willing to do it. And there are probably some people who are willing to do it or are already doing.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Right. And so like, just just be mindful of that. And so the last piece is like, what is maybe the better frame, right? Because you can work all day, right? You can work 9-9-6 days a week and maybe take a half day off on Sunday or whatever, right? You can work that way. But the thing is, are you moving forward? Right.
Starting point is 00:08:42 So I know there are trainers right now who still work 12 hours a day training sessions, but they're not moving forward. And so they might say no one will out work me, but I would bet that their goal is not to work hard, their goal is probably to accomplish something or level up, right? And so I think it might be better to think no one will outpace me, right, or no one will out learn me, right? No one will out grow me. And because those are things that are much more on your mental constraints and take more emotional work than simply adding hours to your day, right? Anyone can just be awake and work. Actually, maybe not anyone, but I think a lot of people can just work. Like, it's not that hard.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Shit, all of us do it all the time. And when I see something that everyone can do for a lot of time, I don't see that as hard. Okay. But what a lot of people can't do is they can't get uncomfortable. They can't go into the emotional places of admitting deficits. They can't say where they suck. They can't say where they're not willing to sacrifice. They can't admit the things that they are ashamed of in terms of.
Starting point is 00:09:48 And it doesn't need to necessarily be emotional stuff. It could be like stuff that they're ashamed of that like, like, I'm not good at delegating. I suck at, I suck at remembering things. I suck at being organized. I suck at staying focused. I have entrepreneurial ADD. That's just who I am. Like, whenever you say to yourself, that's just who I am, just hear yourself speak over your own limits, right? Just remember, you're like, cool, I just created a nice jail cell for myself, right? Because that's just who I am. It's like, well, good luck breaking that. Right. And so maybe if your goal is to achieve what you want, then think in terms of sacrifices,
Starting point is 00:10:23 think in terms of the things that you're willing to give up, and then also think in terms of the things that you're willing to outgrow. Think about the mental limits and all the things that you think you believe about yourself that actually aren't true are things that you're carrying from your parents or things that you're carrying from your siblings. It's things that you're carrying from your teacher who said something to you when you were a kid
Starting point is 00:10:40 and that you just believed to be true because you didn't know any better. And the reality is that we make ourselves. We are all self-made. And so I like my, my, I implore you to self-examine and realize that the identity is entirely fluid. It's self-created. We make our own identities.
Starting point is 00:10:58 And so if you want to achieve what you want to achieve, it's typically because there's something that you are telling yourself that is not true, that you choose to believe. And so if you want to get what you want, I think that it might be more productive instead of making Instagram posts about hearing how you're not going to out, how no one will out work you, how you're going to work harder than anyone.
Starting point is 00:11:17 Maybe put it in a different, way which is like I'm going to try and outgrow myself I'm going to try and outpace myself because there's the only things that you have any control over which is what you do and how you perceive yourself and the stories that you tell yourself to either propel you forward or get in your way so anyways hope that maybe resonated with someone if you are trying to work hard then I totally respect the shit out of you keep grinding figure out if you have the things if you if If there are things that you want to sacrifice, that you are not sacrificing that you should be.
Starting point is 00:11:54 And I think something that is always useful to remember is that it's amazing what you can accomplish when you have no choice. And so if you're in a hard spot right now and things are difficult, I can tell you that you're in the makings of an environment where you can prove to yourself the things that you didn't think you were capable of because you have no choice but to succeed and move forward. So if you are in a dark time, then use that as a way to tell your own story, a story you're going to be able to continually tell yourself over the years that you will be able to use and reinforce your newer identity the identity that you want that's going to help you accomplish
Starting point is 00:12:27 what you want in life so anyways have an amazing day have an amazing Thursday hope you guys crush your goals and i'll get you guys on the flip side all right oh drop a like or comment or review if you're listening at home or in the car whatever all right be easy bye
