This week on the Glass Cannon Podcast, a mission gone awry.
All right, the Frost Giants, it is their turn.
Oh, it is go time.
Takes a turn for the deadly.
You made me laugh so hard, I almost forgot that Lork's gonna die in this episode.
And the heroes flail for a way out.
You fool, just because you lived two lives doesn't mean you get to throw this one away. Don't be so
afraid, Baron. You see what we did
to that druid in the brewery. You mean
what I did, Lork? But Will,
they're infighting. This isn't a time
for petty arguments or for tactical advantage.
This is a time to win a battle.
What are you going to do? Open the door for Troy to
strike? This could literally kill me.
Really? Well, now
wait. The adventure continues.
Oh my god.
Now. What's up everybody? It's your best good buddy Joe here to record a new episode of the Glass Cannon Podcast.
Unfortunately, it's just me here.
I'm sitting alone in the attic right now,
waiting for my friends to come and play some RPGs.
I assume nobody is here because they're all recovering from GCP Live,
which was last night.
I don't know if you can hear it in my voice, but man, oh man,
did we have such an incredible time hanging out with GCP Nation in Astoria all day on Saturday.
I know that we say it all the time, but it bears repeating.
We have got the best community of gamers I've ever seen.
And I feel so incredibly lucky to be a part of it.
We started at noon.
be a part of it. We started at noon and when I left at 2 a.m. Skid and Grant and dozens of GCP Nation were still going. Well, there was plenty to celebrate. We had game together all day.
We played this hilarious homebrew live in front of everybody with special guests Ari Rubin,
Nick Lowe and Eleanor DiLorenzo. And then we broke the news that our new Dead Sons podcast would be released on Wednesday, April 25th.
That's right.
Next week, I mean, it is going to be completely insane.
Now, I know we had a great march with the launch of Raiders of the Lost Continent, the Pathfinder playtest,
and the new long-form cannon fodder.
And it's been a quiet few weeks since then.
I get that.
But that's because we've been charging up for what is going to be an absolutely absurd
week of content next week.
Listen to this lineup.
Next Tuesday, you're going to get the Glass Cannon Podcast episode 152.
Next Tuesday, you're going to get the Glass Cannon Podcast, Episode 152.
On Wednesday, you will get not one, not two, but three episodes of our new Starfinder Podcast.
On Thursday, you're going to get your injection of Hildebrand in Skid's Raiders of the Lost Continent podcast.
It is a week we've been preparing for for a long time, and I cannot believe it's just around the corner.
I'm so excited for you guys to hear all this stuff that we've been working on. Anyway, I actually can hear Skid right outside the
door right now trying to drink a gallon
of water and half of it spilling
on his chest and the floor. So I'm going to
wrap this up and say please enjoy
this week's episode of the Glass Cannon Podcast
and look forward
to the start of Starfinder
next week.
Whenever you end
an episode in the middle of a combat,
you can't just start the next episode by picking right back up with that combat.
There's a lot to discuss.
You've got to break down what happened.
You've got to talk a little strategy, a little, oh, what are we going to do?
But the first thing that we need to talk about is something that just came to my attention,
not but two or three minutes ago, that Joe O'Brien pronounces the word crayon crown.
He pronounces the word crayon, C-R-A-Y-O-N, crown.
It was weird because it sounded like he was speaking English for a really long time.
And then it was just like someone threw a nonsense word right in the middle, and it made no sense.
We all kind of let it go, and I felt like that was really big of us.
And we all just figured he misspoke.
Like he drinks, maybe a stroke.
Exactly.
But then he doubled down on it.
He kept saying it.
Yeah, he's like, look at the crown, Grant.
Look at this crown.
Explain yourself.
He's a literate fool.
That's like the dead giveaway that he's not from this planet.
Like, that's something that the alien, like, operating in disguise,
that was like the one slip-up that they'd have.
It'd be like, wait a minute.
You know?
They didn't teach him that word on the mothership.
If his eyes blink the opposite way.
It was amazing.
It was amazing when he looked around the room and was looking for backup.
Like, surely one of the rest of us says it in this awful way.
And everyone just went, no.
He's like, crap.
Absolutely not.
If his eyes blink the
opposite way.
What's the movie
where there's an
alien invasion and
the aliens in human
form, the aliens have
inverted knees so they
bend backwards so they
can run really fast.
The Arrival.
It's The Arrival, yeah.
And then the kid at the end,
spoilers, all of a sudden his legs just go like
and then he runs off
and they're like, tell him what happened to him!
Yeah, he probably says crown too.
That's you. That's what I think of you.
Well, this all came about, I should say, because
friend of the show, Jason McDonald
sent me a picture
of a
crayon. Yeah, we taught him. There you go. It took me a minute. I'll say it how I say it. Sent me a picture of a crayon yeah we taught him there you go it took me a minute but i'll say it how i
say it send me a picture of a crown we're gonna get so many pictures of crowns
amazing painting of napoleon putting a crayon on his head Well anyway This is a pretty amazing picture
This crayon
Is a red crayon
That is
Razzmatazz
Is the name of the color
So he sent a picture
And I was like
Look at this crown
And then I got like
Shit
And I didn't know
We were going to start
The episode this way
I wasn't
37 years
Nobody said
Hey
That's not right
No no no
They did.
They definitely did.
I thought it was a Philly thing.
Maybe it's just me and I'm an idiot.
But I thought it was like...
I mean, I say cran, one syllable.
But that at least has the same vowels.
Cran.
Like cranberries?
Cran.
Yeah.
Okay.
I say crown.
Listen, I say a lot of things weird from Massachusetts.
But crown?
You say museum weird, too.
I say museum.
Museum, yeah.
I remember you were running the Black Rose Museum PFS for us, and you kept saying museum.
And I'm like, is someone going to correct him on this?
So you approach the museum.
You're like, hold on a minute.
Hold on a minute.
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
You're saying museum?
Oh, hold on. Hold the phone. Hold on a minute Are you saying Museum Oh hold on Hold the phone
So okay
This is
So if you guys
Have ever looked up
There's a book
By Joshua Katz
Who does these
Maps of the United States
And just like
Weird pronunciation
Differences
And
And he
There is one for
Cram
And there is
A spot
For
Pronounce this The same as crown yeah
that's the problem I'm looking at the
map I literally can't see that color
it's a two block radius in South
Philly match it up with Google Earth
that's my car in the driveway.
We've localized it to... It's 27th and Tasker in South Philly.
Apparently my pronunciation is used in the northwest corner of Wisconsin.
Well, that explains it.
You made me laugh so hard, I almost forgot that Lork's going to die in this episode.
Lork and friends.
Segway.
Most likely.
Now, you told me that you, I just called you out, obviously, for your absurdity.
But you said you need to call me out on something.
I did.
I would like to call you out on air if you don't mind.
You have the floor.
Piggy has the contract.
I believe.
Now, things have gotten really out of hand.
Piggy has the contract. I believe. Now, things have gotten really out of hand. Piggy has the crown.
Obviously.
Obviously, things have gotten really out of hand, and I've had a week to think about the situation that we're all in.
Sure.
And I didn't press on it before, but I do believe, and I have no proof, admittedly, for a rules lawyer.
This is terrible.
I'm coming with no backup case law or whatever to show precedent.
You had a precedent to show.
But I swear to God, on this show, when we leveled up one time without resting, you had
given us the ability to level up in terms of hit points, saves, and martial abilities,
but not spells.
Does that ring a bell to anybody like you couldn't
prepare new spells i know we did that once seizure for now i i couldn't i looked through a bunch of
episodes i didn't listen to a whole ton but i don't i think it was later on i think it was like
around i felt like galabras was there i yeah i felt like galabras was there so i only penalized
the spell casters well i, it was a minor penalty.
Sure, sure, sure.
In that they just couldn't, because they needed to actually spend their hour preparing spells like normal.
But they got their hit points and their abilities and stuff like that.
But yes, it was more powerful for martial classes like Lork.
So anyway, what I was saying is this is a very serious situation.
And I believe the extra hit points and some of the added abilities might save a life.
So I just wanted to make an argument.
I do remember it.
I respect your decision.
What you're talking about.
And, you know, it almost sounds like it was one of the first or second times we leveled up when we had this discussion.
I swear it was seizure of true now.
There was some – when we leveled up during seizure of true now.
I mean, when else did we have such a long period of time without resting? Yeah. I think it was two to three, and I know there was some when we leveled up when else did we have one to two or two yeah
i think it was two to three and i i know there was some dispensation made i don't remember exactly
what it was it would make sense that it was during the siege of true now because that wasn't going to
end anytime soon yeah we that you needed to be leveled up to um but you know you make a good
case uh you know let's talk about the powers let's talk about the powers first i'm not gonna
retcon what's already been done i'll go through really quickly we rolled for hit points and
lord got max hit points we got another 10 hit points which was awesome
his saves go up a little bit and then he gets uh he gets evasion which is one thing that actually
would have factored in to the breath weapon of these things last week right because you made a
successful reflex save at least once if if not twice, on the breath
weapon.
Yeah, I think it was just once.
I think the other time was an actual touch attack.
But maybe that was six, eight hit points or something that he took that he wouldn't have
taken at all.
And then what was the other one?
Oh, I took elven accuracy as a feat.
What does that do?
Because I wanted to keep going with that elven thing.
Elven accuracy makes your
sharp eyes make difficult shots
easier. If you miss
due to concealment when making a ranged
attack, you can re-roll
the miss chance to see if you can
actually hit. That's pretty good.
Pretty sweet. And then I got
a Hunter's Trick since my
Skirmisher archetype.
I forego spells for hunter's tricks
haven't had one in a while but one came up
and this is what
I really want buddy
I can
enact this as a swift action until the start
of my next turn ranged attacks
do not provoke attacks of
opportunity it's called
wow it's called defensive
bow stance oh cool well that is like in terms of of opportunity. It's called... Wow. It's called Defensive Bow Stance.
Oh, cool.
Wow, that is like,
in terms of fighting giants,
like maybe the most important
thing you could ever take.
Exactly.
And I think that it might be huge
this episode.
So this is why you're making the case.
Yeah, this is why I'm making the case
and the hit points.
So I just wanted to pitch it
and, you know, you do it.
You do what you'd like.
Sure, sure, sure.
No, I mean, I think that's fair.
If all of us remember that precedent, what I'll say is I'm not going to retcon the hit points you would have not taken for the damage for evasion.
Fair enough.
But you can have everything else.
All right.
Yeah.
All right, cool.
Thank you.
That's fine.
Thank you.
I'm in a giving mood.
That bodes really well for this combat.
You're a benevolent GM.
You're already under-leveled and under-developed, in Cat Benatar's case.
It's the least that I can do.
We never talk about Cat Benatar off mic.
That's the thing.
Yeah.
Because all this other stuff for his animals, it was all a riffing that we did.
Sound checks and stuff.
We've got to figure out who she really is.
Barry loved his potatoes.
Right.
That was Ben.
Ben loved the potatoes.
Barry loved wild theories.
It's conspiracy.
I mean, I need your help with this.
As a cat owner, I have trouble with this because I often find cats to have no personality.
They just seem like they sit there and judge you.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Exactly.
So give me a hand here.
Right.
What's going on in her head?
Well, if it was a real cat, anytime you asked it to do something, it would just walk in
the other side of the show.
But when you don't want it around, it would crawl all over you, like mid-fight.
So if we want to make Cat Benatar that, I think that would be really interesting.
She would be useless as a companion.
Cat, attack!
And she just runs off.
So I put on my
rented tuxedo.
And then you're in the
middle of a diplomacy check
and she comes out of
nowhere at their throat.
She crawls into a box
and just makes a home
out of it.
All right, so let's
talk about last episode.
You guys had finished
off that fight against
those centaur-like
frost giant creatures.
That amazing battle in that
thin barn, the long, thin barn.
Yeah, with the eight-legged horse
body, yeah. And then you decide,
you know what? Let's end the night
with just going up to that
statue of Thremir and defacing it.
You found little knick-knacks,
little paddywhacks,
orange slices all around
this
hexagonal platform
that had giant runes that
told the story of Thremere.
How he went into the steaming sea,
fell into the steaming sea to create the race
of frost giants, to create all the frozen
folk.
And then as you went
to deface it, Baron and Pbroke specifically pembroke went back to
get a bunch of dung uh these ethereal like uh half visible creatures came out and attacked you
pretty hardcore they were very hard to hit um because you couldn't see them at all times they
were like sometimes you couldn't even attack them, because they were blending in with the snow and the winds.
I remember rolling a 35 perception,
and you were like, you can't see them.
Yeah.
And so it made me be like, let's run.
Right, and run you did,
but not before letting off a flame strike,
in the case of Feyraza.
A flame strike on the statue of Thremir.
It explodes, does some damage to one of these creatures, but the statue is left standing.
However, Feyraza sees that it drew the attention of the two frost giant guards that were guarding the slave pens.
They begin making their way over.
Pembroke was frozen behind the statue with his last action.
He, though helpless, teleports to the base of these stairs is now the closest to where these frost giants are coming up.
But he's frozen.
I was going to ask you before the episode, Skip, but I wanted to do it live.
What do you have left for Dimension Steps and Teleport?
Do you have anything?
I do.
Well, it depends how far, because I went down to the base of the steps.
How far down was it from where I was to the base of the steps?
All right.
Just in terms of feet?
Yeah.
That's a standard measure of distance.
I was thinking furlongs, Troy.
Can you give it to me in furlongs?
In terms of rods.
If you laid out a bunch of crowns, how many crowns would you get?
75 feet.
Oh, then I've got plenty.
I've got over 170 feet left.
Over 170 feet.
For the day.
Left for the day.
Plus, I have the spell dimension door well no i can't
cast any of my spells right now obviously right but i also have the spell dimension door and two
instances of teleport okay um now obviously sorry is the teleport the teleport casting time is a
standard action i yes so it's not like a an incantation like long no no you could just be
like boom now all of those are you able to cast while helpless
or is just the one? No, no, no. I can't cast
any. While I'm helpless I can't cast any of
my spells. Okay. But I can
we determined that I could do the dimensional
steps. Dimensional steps. So dimensional steps is pretty
much all you have available to you unless
someone or something breaks you out of
that ice. Yeah.
It is your turn. And you remember
your belt buckle is heating up yes it's slowly
melting away at the uh the ice that's surrounding you this ice cage yeah it is your turn um
go for it what do you want to do i jump it right in i don't i don't know what to do here
it's my turn it's pembroke's turn the the last action was Feyraza casting flamestrike okay so can I see these
giants from where you're standing no
you wouldn't know I don't know that they're coming
that they're coming at all you do know you know you can certainly see the flamestrike went off
it was a huge explosion and it didn't have any effect on the statue
I'm sure you could infer that like this may draw the attention of a night patrol The flame strike went off. It was a huge explosion, and it didn't have any effect on the statue.
I'm sure you could infer that this may draw the attention of a night patrol or something.
Okay.
But you don't see anything coming at you.
Then I'm just going to hold since I don't... Yeah, I have no idea that anything...
Where it would be coming from, so I'm going to hold.
Pembroke holds.
Lork. Same situation. Pembroke holds. Lork.
Same situation as Pembroke.
Lork, having the same feeling, would like to do a perception check to see,
because he saw the pens and the frost giants out front as we made our way here.
Right.
So he knows that that could have drawn attention.
He looks up in fear, turns, sees that the statue's unaffected.
He's going to try to look for these guys.
All right, roll a perception check.
34.
34.
Okay.
So you can see the frost giants are coming towards you.
I'm looking at the map now and the way the stairs are aligned.
With a 34, if you were actually looking over there to see
I would say you can
see that with a 34. Lork can see
them coming. Alright
he is going to
step up. Can he
take a shot at them?
He's got
120 feet on the bow. Are they
a little out of that range just yet?
If they are I'm not going to shoot.
No, they are within range, but they probably don't see you yet.
Right.
Just putting that out there.
Yeah.
I feel I don't, I guess he could dimension step away,
but Lork is going to go over, move over to Pembroke,
stand right next to him,
and whisper something into his ear that you don't hear.
Oh. Should I leave the room and you can just whisper it on his ear that you don't hear. Oh.
Should I leave the room and you can just whisper it on mic
and I won't hear it?
Yes.
Okay, I'm going to walk out of the room
and you can say it.
The audience will hear it.
Okay.
I won't hear it.
Okay.
Wait, should the rest of us leave too?
No, you can if you want to be surprised.
He's actually leaving the room.
He is actually leaving.
Quick, lock the door.
Guys, look at his initiative tracker and all the notes on it while he's gone.
So Lork leans in.
He left his iPad here.
Just knock all their HP down.
All right, so Lork leans over to you, Pembroke.
And he can see these guys coming.
And he says, don't do your magical teleport.
They're coming up here for us
and I think we're going to have to fight them regardless.
But I have an idea how to get you out of that ice.
And he basically says,
he's going to draw an attack
and ready an action
to jump out of the way
and let it hit the ice.
The frost giants attack.
Oh, wow.
And maybe it'll shatter the ice,
and then you could, you know,
maybe take some reduction of the damage from the ice,
and then totally be able to cast these things.
Okay.
But you could still dementia step away,
but that's my action.
Okay.
He tells you that idea.
Yeah.
Otherwise, I have no idea how to...
That sounds kind of risky.
Just hide behind the statue?
This is insane!
I'm just saying,
I think that it would be a good way to get you out of it.
I see no other way to get you out of it.
And I know you could teleport away, but I think we have to fight these guys.
So either way, if they don't see us or whatever, we're fine.
Troy!
Troy!
Troy!
Troy!
This is fun.
This is different.
Okay, we're innovating.
Constantly innovating.
Now just tell me exactly what you said.
We didn't touch your iPad at all.
Oh, damn it.
You know everything now.
All right, so...
All those new photos.
I think every time we ready in action, I think we're going to make you leave the room.
Damn it.
It's a lot of work.
I had to move to get a little closer to him.
Okay.
So I am...
You know what?
Yeah, screw it.
I'm going to shoot.
I'm going to take a shot at these guys.
All right, so you move to Pembroke with Cat Benatar, or we're doing Cat separate?
No, Cat is coming with me.
Okay, and you're going to shoot at one of the two Frost Giants.
Yes, I believe that we're not going to get out of this without them seeing us.
All right, fire when ready, buddy.
I'm doing it.
He misses. Oh, no. I'm doing it. Oh, he misses.
Oh, no.
So an arrow just flies past them.
Well, unless a 24 is a hit.
Why would you assume a 24 is a miss on a giant target?
I don't know.
I just thought it's a giant.
Yeah, that's a hit.
All right, there we go.
It was a natural three.
I wasn't...
Wow, that bodes pretty well for you in this combat.
Maybe shooting at them was the right idea
I don't think so that favorite enemy
thing though so that's that's
minimum damage that's
nine points of damage nine points
of damage okay
yeah so unfortunately just a little
pinprick so just a little needle
comes flying out of the air
now they know something's going on up there
their buddies aren't shooting at them.
Wow.
I mean, he's also thinking,
if we can draw these guys up and kill these guys,
we might even have a chance to get some slaves out of here.
I thought you were going to say,
that's a ton of XP.
Okay, interesting.
Remember this moment,
the moment that Lork shot at the two Frost Giants.
It is the Frost giants turn they close
some of the distance but i mean they're over 100 feet away i think i am actually going to take my
turn before they do that before they do that yeah uh okay uh i am going to dimension step out of
there dimension step out of there all right where are you going to go to uh i'm going to go around to the back side of the statue the the pillar that
the platform that the statue is on like you're staying up here no no well i'm at the base like
the the mountain that the statue is on i'm gonna go like to the opposite side so like you know
like down on the ground yeah behind the mountain yeah In this crevasse in the picture.
Okay, so you're effectively taking, like, to the left where the slave pen is or to the right?
To the right.
Okay.
Getting away from the giants.
Yeah, so you're getting out.
Pembroke, gone.
Boom.
Okay, and we'll say that's another 75, 80 feet.
Okay.
All right, so Pembroke just gets out of there. The frost giants, Lork and Feyraza, you see, they will be here next round. All right, these Pembroke just gets out of there. The Frost Giants, Lork, and Feyraza, you see, they will be here next round.
All right, these weirdo creatures.
One of them flies towards Baron and does a slam for a 28.
That is a hit.
That is a hit. That is a hit.
That is going to be five, excuse me, seven points.
Four points of regular damage and five points of cold damage.
And I'm going to need you to roll a fortitude save.
Probably
a hard pass with a
26. You're alright, Barrett.
All right.
I keep thinking we're going to get stuck here, then I forget
that he never fails.
Hey, so
fortuitous? Fortunous.
Shut up, Cron boy.
Alright, the other one flies off in the direction of Feyraza, but Feyraza is over 100 feet away.
So it just like takes to the air after this puffin.
You just did an Iron Man.
Flies after Feyraza.
Round four.
Baron, you are right next to this thing that is just floating next to you.
Baron, after seeing Lork
shoot an arrow off into the distance,
under his breath,
still kind of hoping out hope
that no one will hear us, says,
You fool, just because you lived two lives
doesn't mean you get to throw this one away.
He's pissed that you did this.
Both Grant andon in real life
uh so uh baron's going to take a five foot step back okay initially my plan no uh yeah that's fine
uh initially my plan was to kind of get closer to pembroke and everyone and help get him out and
cast oil of silence on my gun but now that this is kind of at the window, he's just going to go blam, blam, blam against this bad boy.
Planschmans.
Drop the plus one hand axe.
It's free action.
Draw is a free action.
And then rapid fire up close and deadly against this thing.
Drop.
Draw is free.
Okay.
Fire away.
Come on, baby.
15 against touch.
15 against touch is a miss.
Bummer, bummer, bummer.
Come on, baby.
Natural 20.
That is what I'm talking about.
There you go, Grant.
Oh, man.
That is confirmed with a 28.
We got a baby.
Finally.
That's game changing.
Times four, baby.
Times four, baby.
Roll 19 D20s. We have a random number generator. Oh's for baby. Time's for baby. Roll 19 D20s.
We have a random number generator.
Oh, my God.
This is amazing.
The timing on this is just incredible.
Jay from Canada writes in.
Sorry, Matthew.
Government grant.
Come on.
You're joking. U.S. grant. Come on! You're joking.
U.S. grant.
Unconditional surrender, baby.
Target takes triple damage as long as the player can come up with a witty, barren-worthy quote
within ten seconds of the attack.
On a failed quote check, the target takes one and a half max weapon damage.
GM discretion.
Do you realize triple damage is quintuple damage for a time score crit?
So it's up to you, Troy, if he comes up with a barren worthy quote within ten seconds.
It better be funny.
All right.
I'll give you the timer.
Give yourself a second, Grant.
You're going to have in about five seconds, I'm going to say go.
Three, two, one.
You have ten seconds.
I'm about to put some frostbite on that ass, you son of a bitch.
You get a times four.
All right.
I'll take it.
Nice job, Greg.
That is so awesome.
Thank you, Jay.
I enjoyed your use of the word ass.
Thank you.
I knew if I just had some vulgarity in there, you'd like it.
So I roll this D8 four times.
Do I add my modifier four times?
Yes.
It's so long.
You sure do.
Yes.
So we're starting off at a base.
I got a crazy idea for radio.
Why don't you roll four D8s?
Nope.
Max damage 15.
Oh, my God.
15, 21, 25, plus 52 equals 77 points of damage.
Oh, my.
77 points of damage?
That is correct.
13 times 4 is 52 plus 25 is, yes, 77.
Wow.
Believe it or not, it is still alive.
What?
77 damage.
It had only gotten hit by the flame strike.
And that's the one that got hit?
That's the one that got hit.
Oh, we are in a bad situation.
It saved on the flame strike on the reflex save.
So I got to say, the reason I started using my axe is because Joe was so convinced that these things were unhittable.
So I followed his bad lead there at the beginning of this battle.
We could be in so much better shape.
And now this guy's shot a giant off the side. I'm
interested in the role-playing that's going to happen after this.
Right now, you've got a battle to fight. Let's see. This is my
final shot on this rapid shot.
Oh, 23 against
Touch AC. That'll do.
Yeah. That is 18
points of damage. And you kill it.
Yeah!
Grant, I'm telling you, do you remember
what we did to that druid? We killed him in two rounds. I'm telling you, do you remember what we did to that druid?
We killed him in two rounds.
I'm telling you, bring the giants.
Wow.
We're ready.
One down.
One has flown off up to Feyraza, but now these two giants are coming up.
Baron, is that your turn?
Yeah, I've taken a five-foot step and a full round attack.
Feyraza, this one flew towards you. You see the frost giants are now going to get to the base of the statues in the next turn.
They don't have dark vision, but they're going to get there, and you probably saw that Lork
just fired at one of them and missed.
So can I roll a perception?
They see us, right?
At this point, they've seen the arrow.
Well, they don't have dark vision, so you don't think that they... Actually, Lork
doesn't have dark vision either. Oh, so you should have rolled
a percentile to see if you hit them, right?
Why? Because it's like low light?
I mean, it's darkness. Partial concealment.
I'll roll a concealment.
50% or 20%?
20%.
14.
But I have that elven accuracy.
Roll again.
Come on. 69. 14. Oh! But I have that Elvin accuracy. Oh, so you roll again for Elvin accuracy.
Come on.
69.
Yeah!
69!
Oh, so it turns
into a crit.
Yeah, yeah!
A retroactive times
three critical.
Retroactive times three.
All right, so that
still goes through.
And answer your question,
Matthew.
Oh, man, what a waste
of a 69.
No, really.
There's never a waste
of a 69.
You know, you don't think they probably, you probably don't think they see you specifically,
but they saw a flame explosion and an arrow just hit one of them.
They wouldn't think one of their own is attacking them.
Okay, so what Farazza's going to do is she's going to kind of loop around
towards the giants, away from, like, if the flying thing is chasing me.
I'm going to kind of lead it on the Mary Chase.
Okay.
And then she's going to cast Wall of Thorns.
Wall of Thorns.
All right.
Tell me about Wall of Thorns.
Okay.
So I just want to check this with the group.
Oh, boy.
Shut up.
It says here you can make the wall as thin as five feet thick, which allows you to shape
the wall as a number of ten by ten by five foot blocks equal to twice your caster level.
Okay.
So I can shape it, right?
It doesn't have to be a straight wall.
That works for me.
Yep.
Okay.
Great.
But normal is ten by ten by ten blocks.
So basically I'm going to trap them in a wall.
So they're going to be encased in the thorns.
So you're going to put it right on their spot.
Yeah.
So they're going to take damage immediately.
And then if they try to walk out of it, they're going to take more damage. Yeah. They can do a strength check. You've got to put it right on their spot. Yeah. So they're going to take damage immediately, and then if they try to walk out of it, they're
going to take more damage.
Yeah, they can do a strength check.
You've got to move.
God.
All right.
All right.
What kind of damage are we talking?
That's just happening.
Wall of thorns.
It is piercing damage.
25 minus your AC.
What?
Yeah.
It's 25 damage.
A creature forced into or attempting to move through a wall of thorns takes piercing damage
per round of movement equal to 25 minus the creature's damage.
So it's not a ton of damage, but it just holds them up.
It holds them up, and it's going to hurt them on their way.
And it's a full round action to make that strength check to get out of it.
All right.
So if we need to get away, we can get away.
Beautiful.
Okay.
And you swoop around, like, towards them.
Yeah.
I have pretty big range on this, too.
All right.
Lork, you probably can't see this since you don't have dark vision, but they seem to be upset about something down there.
And it is Lork's turn.
All right, so hearing Baron's gun go off and seeing that Pembroke has winked away, his initial idea or plan not going to happen.
Lork is going to go back up the steps, kind of regroup
with Baron, and as he
comes up there, he's just going to be like,
Don't be so afraid, Baron.
You see what we did to that druid in the
brewery? Draw him out here.
We'll take him out and then free
some of the slaves.
I'm not afraid. I am not afraid like
Grant. And Baron answers.
A scared little man like Grant. Baron
answers Lork and says, you mean what
I did, Lork?
I did alright myself.
I almost did it in your accent because it sounded tough.
It sounded tougher.
Alright, so you move, you talk.
Are you going to do anything? If I can't,
can I roll another
perception to take out one shot, like into
the brambles?
Shoot the flying creature.
What about it?
Well, flying creature you're going to have to see.
You can shoot them.
You just roll your percentile.
Oh, okay.
Just like you did last round.
All right.
I will take a shot.
That is a natural 19, so that's a hit, and a 26 on concealment, so that is successful.
All right.
Beautiful.
Then he's going to do...
You're going to hit the same one.
Yeah.
So that's 13 points of damage.
13 points of damage.
All right, so surprisingly...
So I just haven't been doing the, whatchamacallit, deadly aim,
which I will do once I'm set and targeting.
Sacrifice accuracy for damage.
Right.
All right, all right.
Cap Benatar, you want to just stick around the frustrations? Nope, just going to go to hold for damage. Right. All right, all right. Cap Benatar?
You want to just stick around the frustrations?
Nope, just going to go to hold for a minute here.
Pembroke?
Yeah, there's really not much I can do.
I should probably take two rounds of heat metal damage,
because we never did it last round.
Yes, correct.
So 2d4.
2d4.
What did we say it does for the...
Double damage. I was determining it off in my own little mind minimum damage two damage for the
first one okay and this is all it ever does it never increases in damage this is this is this
is the increased damage so it gets up to 2d4 when it is uh it's hold on i'll tell you exactly what
it is searing it's currently his belt buckle currently searing. And then it comes back down.
And in that next round, so it gets two rounds of searing
and then it goes down to hot, then warm.
Okay, very cool. So two points of damage
and then this round? Six points of damage.
So Pembroke takes eight.
Pembroke, what are you sitting at for HP?
I'm down to 16
hit points.
16?
But the cage has taken
some damage. It feels a little
thin. It's getting a little roomier in there.
But it's getting hot! That explains
your decision to wink away.
Yeah, see, I was like,
and I can't talk to you.
I mean, Pembroke can't talk
to you. If he could, he would have said,
that would have killed me, you fool.
Right.
Is there enough room in the cage for him now to cast spells with somatic and verbal components?
Just checking.
Verbal components.
I would say he's no longer completely helpless.
He can cast spells with verbal.
We went on this before.
Yeah, that was the first round of his freezing.
He could do verbal.
You've got to that point, but still nothing.
Can I try another strength check to try to break out?
Yeah, absolutely.
Get a natural 20.
Hold on, let me just check.
It's lorch.
Yeah, you're good.
Does anyone have a bottle cap for him?
I actually do, I think.
Hold on.
Well, he has to pretty much get a natural 20.
Yeah, I wouldn't waste it on this.
I just, it's going to be.
Okay, here we go.
No. I see just still not there. That's going to be... Okay, here we go. No.
I see just...
Still not there.
That's a four.
How many more...
For those wondering, listening at home.
Your first attempt was a zero.
Let me ask you this, Matthew.
How many more rounds does this thing get hot before it starts cooling off?
It's already cooling off.
It's already cooling off.
Only two rounds of searing, and then it's going to be hot, which is one before next round, and then it's done.
Okay. It goes to warm after that. It's getting cooling. Only two rounds of searing, and then it's going to be hot, which is 1d4 next round, and then it's done. Okay.
It goes to warm after that.
It's getting hot in here.
All right.
It is the Frost Giant's turn.
So they are going to both attempt to break out of this thing and make their way towards the steps.
So it's a strength check for both of them, yes?
And this is a full round action to do this.
Full round action just to get out.
DC20. DC 20.
All right, the first one
makes it to Frost Giant.
By how much?
Made it by eight.
Okay, so you can move five feet.
Jeepers.
Are you kidding me?
Well, that's out of the wall, though,
right?
Because you put it right on.
And the other one,
I made it by eight as well.
I rolled the exact same
for both of them.
So they can each move five feet.
And do they take damage
as they're moving out of it?
They do.
25 minus 30. So they take the same five feet. And do they take damage as they're moving out of it? They do. 25 minus 30.
So they take the same damage again, and they're just like, ugh.
So they would have got here this round, but now they're just a little bit closer.
Awesome.
That's huge.
And you know what?
Bottle cap.
Yeah!
That is a good...
Matthew is racking them up.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I don't have one on me.
You gave me...
You accidentally gave me two last time. Oh. How nice of you to tell me now. Oh, yeah, yeah. I don't have one on me. You gave me, you accidentally gave me two last time.
Oh, how nice of you to tell me now.
Oh, curious.
Curious.
I got home and I was like, why do I have two Galacticas?
Oh, I was wondering.
I was up all night worrying.
There are approximately 290 bottle caps in this office right now.
I come in when we're not recording and clear them off from the table just so you guys don't
hear them.
It's like, is that a Ruins of Aslan bottle cap you're trying to use in a Giants player game?
All right.
Yeah, that is definitely bottle cap worthy.
And they both take more damage.
Let me just get that down.
They're on death's door, right, Troy?
Death's door.
Okay, good.
That massive damage.
They're both definitely not both over 100 hit points.
Okay, so that thing that was chasing after Feyraza, how many feet did you fly away?
You were 80 feet away.
It came within about 15 feet of you, 20 feet of you.
80.
And so you flew another 80 feet.
So you got crazy fly speed.
Yeah.
I'm just a bird.
You're just a mere bird.
It double moves right next to you.
All right.
Okay?
So now it is right up in your business, but had to double move, so it cannot take an attack.
Round six.
Baron.
Baron.
You and Lork have a lot to discuss when this fight's over, but this isn't a time for petty
arguments or for tactical advantage.
This is a time to win a battle.
What are you going to do?
Did Baron hear, perhaps?
I know that Dimension Door means you blink out of sight,
so I wouldn't have seen a trail of dust or anything.
But what I've heard, maybe Pembroke wincing pain
at his belt buckle burning alive inside?
No.
I would think you assume he is dead or in another dimension.
Okay.
That's about right.
You don't know that. I can't make any noise at all.
But you could use verbal
anyway. Now I can, but before
he was completely helpless. But his last turn
he couldn't? It's not like Ferrazza said,
I just heated him up!
Alright, got it.
So, Baron is going
to
as a move action
Party Baron! Pull Baron is going to, as a move action.
Party Baron.
Pull the drugs out of his coat.
He's going to pull a potion of flame oil out of his bandolier.
And he's going to pour it over the chemical cartridges.
Oh, really?
And you know that this works, right?
We've done it in the past.
All right, then I'll... This is flame arrow?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Flame arrow can be used on any ranged projectile.
Yes.
All right, then.
So you pour it.
I'm on the book of skid.
This is how I'm doing it.
If you think we've done it before...
Can you put that on any of mine?
I mean, it does 50 projectiles.
Why would I help you? Save your own life? Yeah, I can... mine? I mean, it does 50 projectiles. Why would I help you?
Save your own life?
Well, I mean, I don't know.
Are your arrows out? Could I in one action move the oil
from my thing to
his quiver? I mean, you guys
are adjacent to each other. You absolutely could.
25 for you, my friend. Beautiful!
Nice. Yeah, so flame oil is projectiles.
Now, are the cartridges considered projectiles?
Yes.
They're the bullets.
And it does an extra 1d6 fire damage?
Yes.
Yes.
Okay.
All right.
You're not powerful enough, so I'll allow it.
Perfect.
All right, and that is your action.
Yeah, I'm considering pulling the oil out as a move action and applying it as a standard.
Fair enough.
And now it is Feyraza'sosa's turn fey rosa this
thing's right up in your business it's almost beautiful if you had time to admire it you don't
if i had time not to when i wasn't just fearing for my death right so what are the rules with
attacks opportunity when you're in flight can you rules for pathfinder
and someone just run me through the rules for pathfinder
what are the rules for what, sir? So, do
creatures get attacks of opportunity when they're flying?
I mean, I'm using wings, so I would assume
that I would not, but this thing is flying magically.
Yeah, you could. You could get talent
attacks, bite attacks. Yeah, I don't see why
not. Like, if you have
flight, this character has flight, you know what I mean?
Yeah. If you have a
swim speed or a fly speed, it's like
normal movement. So, it would get a tax
opportunity on me is
really what I'm
concerned that's why I
got apparently I would
have to if you were to
deal damage to me I would
have to do it a fly check
but oh yeah not only that
you'd have to see if you
froze in midair okay
Farazza is going to double
move she's gonna withdraw
and she's going to dive
towards the ground whoo And she's going to dive towards the ground.
So she's
going to zoom down. I think this
is probably a fly check, but I think I make it
except if I roll a natural one. So you're doing a full
withdraw? Full withdraw. Full withdraw, but you've
got to roll this fly check. I mean, just
because I'm going to go, I'm saying for the sake
of role playing, I'm diving towards the ground
at an angle steeper than 45 degrees.
Sure, okay. Go ahead and roll your fly check.
Daddy.
Natty 16. Nailed it.
She's going to dive down towards
the ground towards the direction of the group
and the frost giants.
So where do you want to be closer to?
You've got plenty of movement here.
I would guess she's going to end up somewhere
in the air.
And just like maybe 10 feet above the ground.
I don't know that she would get that far.
Okay.
All right.
So maybe.
All right.
So you're basically somewhere between the frost giants.
I think she's still above the frost giants.
Okay.
But.
Okay.
All right.
That's cool, Matthew.
That's cool.
Lork.
Put her back on the map.
I want to see her.
Considering these guys only moved five feet in the last round, his intention is to plant and draw three flaming arrows
and do a full round attack.
Just three flaming arrows.
Launching arrows into these guys.
Full round attack.
All right, go for it.
They'll definitely see you at that point.
Yeah, exactly.
Trace his point both ways.
All right.
First attack is a 25 to hit.
25 to hit.
What was it? 65 concealment. All right, First attack is a 25 to hit. 25 to hit. What was it?
65 concealment.
All right.
That'll do.
He does 33 points of damage.
Whoa.
If you guys survive this.
Are you doing deadly aim now?
Yes.
I have it all on.
Thank Jesus.
What did I say?
35?
Yeah.
33.
33.
33.
Natural one.
Oh, Lord.
No.
Joe's got a run.
Oh, God. Oh, no. Joe's going to roll.
Oh, God.
Oh, no.
All right, roll the natural one.
Oh, on the confirm one.
Fade.
Come on, man. Look, Grant.
You shoot your animal companion.
There was a chance.
There was a chance.
Look at Grant's face.
There was also a chance we could have killed those ice things behind the statue while they made their way up slowly, Joe.
There was also that chance.
There was also that chance.
Fan fumble, ranged attack.
Governor Bush, if you could stop your campaign in one word, what would it be?
Strategy.
Strategy.
Okay.
So, this is Jared from Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Jared writes in your wife's hometown.
My wife's hometown, incidentally.
Let's see how this goes.
Is this Jared from Subway?
Is this from a correctional facility?
It's our federal president, Tulsa.
He has the fumble and send pictures.
You actually don't have, if you are in prison for a sex crime, you don't have access to email.
Oh, there you go.
Well, that solves that conundrum.
Matthew, you've been doing
a lot of strange research lately.
I don't know why you know this.
Specifically about the Jared from Subway.
It's called Law and Order SBU.
Okay.
All right, this one from Jared.
Knees weak, palms are sweaty.
Mom's sweaty.
Sweaty hands cause you to release early.
Instead of striking your foe,
your shot flies wide and hits the nearest ally within a cone of effect the size of your weapon's first range increment.
Oh, dear.
That's a 120-foot cone.
So it's Feyraza.
Which is Feyraza.
Feyraza, it just hits one?
Yeah.
This could literally kill me.
Oh, boy.
Really?
Well, now wait.
Now wait.
The deadly aim should not apply. No, the deadly aim should apply. now wait. Now wait. The deadly aim should not apply.
No, the deadly aim should apply. No, it shouldn't.
Deadly aim bonus should not apply.
Because the whole... We've done this before
with Nestor. Because the thing is, like, if you're
hitting someone by accident, like, the whole thing
of deadly aim is that you're hitting your target.
You're hitting a precise spot on a
target to do the most damage. But if you're hitting someone by
accident, it would just...
That doesn't make any sense.
We went through all of this with Nestor
once, and it's
crazy. Yeah, I mean, I do
remember that conversation.
It's one of those things where it's hard
because you're deadly aiming for one thing,
but your hand's got slip. You're still
putting all your...
That's not what it's about. The deadly aim is about
the point you hit,
not the strength, which you pull back. Power attack, that would make sense for it.
Power attack, it would totally make sense.
The deadly aim is like a vital...
You're looking for an organ.
You have to hit a specific weak spot.
I'll let it go.
It will let it go, yeah.
I'm just going to say,
isn't Baron the nearest ally?
Sorry, Greg.
I mean, technically, isn't Cap Benatar?
Nearest ally to the target. Oh, yeah, you're closest to the target. Oh, nearest ally to the target, Greg. I mean, technically, isn't Cat Benatar? Nearest ally to the target.
Oh, yeah, you're closest to the target.
Oh, nearest ally to the target, yeah.
Oh, actually, it just says the nearest ally within a cone of effect, the size of your
weapon's range.
If the cone goes out like this, I don't think it would hit me at all.
All right, so it says...
Just FYI.
Greg's like, no way.
No way.
I've got 900 hit points.
It's an ally within a cone of effect.
I could also roll to see who it hits.
It hits Feyraza without
deadly aim. I mean, I'm probably still dead.
13 points of damage.
I'm barely alive.
Are you conscious? Yeah, barely.
Alright, it hits Feyraza. 13 points
of damage. What would it have been with deadly aim?
Well, with
deadly aim, it would have been
23 points of damage. I would have been
unconscious, fallen from the sky, and died.
And that would have been the...
Wow.
Wow.
Seepers.
Come on, man.
To quote Joey Lawrence, whoa, whoa.
I'm going to take another shot.
Hope you don't miss this time.
Feeling confident.
Hit the nearest druid.
Two 90 ones in a row.
This is so, so brutal.
And if you have deadly aim on, it counts.
That's a very specific fumble.
26, 90 on concealment. I'm sorry, not counts. That's a very specific fumble. 26, 90 on concealment.
I'm sorry, not 26.
That's my last shot.
It's 21.
21 and 96 on concealment.
That is a hit.
Oh, good, good, good.
All right.
Thank God.
Make this damage count.
Since you killed one of your friends in the middle of it.
I actually, I rolled really well.
So that's 34 points of damage.
Oh.
All right, 34 points of damage.
And this is a flame arrow, right?
Yeah, I did four extra points of fire damage.
All right.
Oh, wait.
Was that fire damage on me, too?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I counted.
Oh, yeah, that's three points.
It was three points of fire on you.
Oh, actually, I don't have resistance to fire.
Oh, damn it.
Everything else.
But they're vulnerable to fire, right?
Fire at the frost. I don't know. I don't know. All right. Oh, damn it. Everything else. But they're vulnerable to fire, right? Fire at the frost.
I don't know.
I don't know.
All right.
He looks pretty rough.
All right.
All right.
I mean, he looks, I'll go as far to say he looks almost dead.
All right.
All right.
All right.
All most dead.
Come on, team.
It is Pembroke's turn.
And by team, I just mean Baron.
He's the only one I can see.
You just shot me with an arrow.
That's true.
He doesn't have darkvision.
He doesn't even know that he didn't need it.
Right, exactly.
Pems, do you want to do anything, or you just want to chill?
Well, I should get another D4 worth of damage on the ice image.
Ooh, Max.
4.4, and he is still encased.
Doesn't that take out the...
I'm counting it all, yeah.
That double dose that he got. I'm gonna do
one more strength check. Come on!
Come on, natural twat zoning!
I'm rooting for you, Pepperick. I'm rooting for you.
Come on, the ice has been weakened.
Nope.
Be a three. It'd be great if he was just like
Shard!
Clothes ripped off.
Spins his staff.
It's on fire. Now, does he take more damage or is that the endins his staff. He's on fire.
Now, does he take more damage, or is that the end of that damage?
That's the end.
So now his belt buckle is just nice and warm.
Nice and warm.
That's a great comfort to me.
Sitting against the scalded scar on my stomach.
Yeah.
All right, the Frost Giants.
It is their turn.
It is go time.
What if they started flying and went right after Faraza?
The Frost Giants take flight.
No, no, no.
The flight of the Frost Giants.
All right.
I'm very scared about this.
This is a situation.
So they both come up to the stairs.
They're at the base of the stairs and they see these scumbags, these villains, these infiltrators, these slaves.
Did they get out of the pen?
Did they come from somewhere else in the camp?
How are they armed?
Who are these people?
They can barely even see you in the darkness.
They're not going to live to know, buddy.
Now, the problem is, well, it's really a problem for Lork.
They're not going to live to know, buddy.
Now, the problem is, well, it's really a problem for Lork.
Lork is the only one that they can hit because Lork is standing right in front of Baron and Cat Benatar.
So they move side by side.
Oh, okay.
I didn't know.
I thought that you were saying it was a move action to get to the base of the stairs. Yeah, move action to get to the base of the stairs.
Move action to get to the base of the stairs. Move action to get to the base of the stairs.
So their move action from where the thorns were is all the way to me and an attack?
Let me check out their movement here.
So the first round, they got halfway there.
The second round, they were going to be at the steps, but the thorns held them up.
So now...
They're just at the base of the steps.
That's fair.
And that's the double move.
Base of the steps, yes.
They will be within you guys by the next round. So you're right're just at the base of the steps. That's fair. That's fair. Base of the steps, yes. They will be within
you guys by the next round.
You're right. They'll be within us? They'll be within
you. That sounds
ominous.
Let me just check my movement here.
I said they weren't... Yeah, no, that's right. Yeah, Matthew
kept them to
the stairs, and that's why it was worth a bottle
cap. That creature
that's been flying around
looking for Freyraza oh no
what is it gonna do
remember I'm a double move away from it
so I should be able to keep
my distance it's hard to be a double move away
from a breath attack though
that's when things get
really does it have 160 feet of range
um well it can fly close to you and then get the range That's when things get really... Does it have 160 feet of range?
Well, it can fly close to you and then get the range.
I'm just trying to see here what it's going to do.
All right, it's going to double move right up to you again and stand right next to you.
I mean, flying right next to you.
Facing down on you.
And behind you is your group.
Baron, Lork, and Cat Benatar.
And it takes a deep breath.
It can.
You just said a double move.
I'm just telling you.
It takes a deep breath. What it's doing.
So if you move, it may hit your friends.
The choice is yours.
The chosen one is dead, Feyraza.
What are you going to do?
Round seven.
Baron.
Okay, so these guys are approximately 30 feet away from us, right?
This is intense!
Oh, come on, man!
The guys are exactly at a space that you would have to move and only take one attack.
Whatever that space is, that's the space.
I'm slowly learning my lesson over 151 episodes.
Get out of your touch AC rage.
I am going to spend a grit point
to use Deadeye,
which will allow me to resolve an attack
against a touch AC instead of normal AC when firing
beyond her firearms first range increment.
For the whole round?
Yeah.
No.
One attack.
One attack.
One attack.
And attack.
Okay.
Still takes a minus two.
And I'm going to shoot at the guy that has, that is not on death's door.
All right.
Actually, no. I'm going to do, I'm going to shoot the guy that seems like we've been not on death's door all right actually no i'm going to do i'm going
to shoot the guy that seems like we've been attacking the whole time question are you going
to move because right now they both get a bonus third ac because you're shooting through lork
well you can slide right can i can i five foot step you can five foot step but the one that's
on death's door of course gets a little bonus a little bonus day safe. Of course. Because it's this one.
And even taking a slide,
you'd have to shoot through Lork
to get to him.
That's fine.
All right, so you're going to slide.
Take a shot at the one on death's door.
Go for it.
That is going to be a 28 unmodified
against Touch AC.
Save the damage die.
Yeah.
Yes.
Yes.
I get the grip point back.
Awesome.
Wow.
See?
You got this.
And I'm going to take my second attack of the round.
Okay.
Yeah, that's fine.
You took five hits.
I'm going to spend my last grip point again.
And I'm going to resolve against his touch AC.
Okay.
Cool.
All right. You can do that more than AC. Okay. Cool. All right.
You can do that more than once, yes?
Yes.
And this one has cover.
That is a 21 unmodified against touch AC.
21 unmodified against touch AC against a huge creature.
Do you have dark vision?
I do.
And outside of my first range increment, it would be a 19.
Wait, so it's a 19 to hit against touch?
Yes. That's it. Yeah! All right, all right be a 19. Wait, so it's a 19 to hit against touch? Yes.
That's it. Yeah! Alright, alright,
alright. And you know what?
Bad ass. And this cartridge
has fire on it, right? That is correct.
Oh dear lord. So this is 3d6.
1d8
plus 3d6 because I have
Bane for Giants.
Okay, so that is...
Alright, so it was 29 points of damage,
two of which, Troy, two were fire damage.
29, two of which were fire.
All right, all right, I see how it is.
And it is Feyraza's turn.
Feyraza, the fate of your party may be in your hands,
because if they get frozen, what's going to happen?
But if you get frozen, you die!
What do you do?
I have no way to take this thing down this round,
or to obstruct its weapon, so I have to move.
Correct.
Or I will die.
That's true.
Correct, you will die.
So Farazza is going to move,
she's going to fly straight across, one move action,
and then she's going to cast a little spell called Ice Spears.
Whoa, Ice Spears.
That provokes.
From whom?
The guy who's right next to you, the wispy air thing.
No, he's flying away first and then casting it.
The way it is on the board, they're not melee.
I assumed he said right up next to you.
Yeah, I just didn't put it.
That's fine.
So you fly away and you cast ice spears at who?
The giant standing at the foot of the steps.
Okay.
So two, because he's a large creature and takes up more than one square,
two 10-foot giant spears of ice erupt from the ground and pierce him.
Oh, man.
Hoisted by his own petard.
Oh, man. However, there his own batard.
However,
there's a reflex save. However, because I cast a spell in an area covered with
ice and snow, this
spell gets even more powerful.
So you get a reflex save. DC 17, nope.
But you get a minus two on that
save. Alright, let's go through this
first. Made the reflex save.
Crushed it. Twice. You need to do it twice.
One for each spear. Oh, one for each spear.
Dodge one. The second one
was a 14.
So failed the second one.
So you're going to take 2d6 points
of piercing damage and 2d6 points of cold
damage. And you'll get, that's for
per spear, and you'll half.
Don't roll any of the cold damage.
Immune to cold. I figured that.
So all the piercing will go through. One will be half be half five so you take two for the first one okay and then
eight for the second one so 10 total so now the spears i'll also get to trip you it's basically
a cmd it's a trip it's coming up and like up ending him yeah okay so cmd against so you're
rolling against my CMD.
Yeah.
So in each additional ice spear beyond the first that strikes a single foe grants a plus
10 bonus to the CMB check.
My God, what is the level of the spell?
It's a bonus.
It's a third level spell.
That's pretty good.
It does piercing damage, cold damage, and trips you all in the same round.
Yeah.
I mean, so I'm doing it on one creature.
Sure.
What's the casting time? all right uh no it's casting comes to standard action okay the duration is instantaneous which is two rounds uh okay so the boat
caster level plus my wisdom charisma or intelligence modifier whichever is highest
i'll take wisdom so that's a 13 uh cmb okay let's see what you got 20 plus for the first one oh damn it uh
18 does not trip them second maybe that second one's got the juice so i get i get a plus 10 on
this come on let's go mad you plus 23 on this roll it's not impossible uh 35 and you trip the
front you may have just saved Lork's life.
Awesome.
Literally may have saved Lork's life.
Oh, actually, I get a plus four on top of that
because it was snowy, so it definitely would.
Unbelievable.
Wow.
Unbelievable.
A municol still trips him.
Matthew, I'm just so glad you're still choosing
from the goblin spell list.
This has been to our advantage every time.
Feyraza gets away.
You have so much more flight than these ethereal
creatures you were able to get out of its range so
it couldn't get up in your business.
Lork's turn. This thing is laying down.
Lork starts laughing
out loud when this thing
hits the ground. That's rude. He's just like
ha ha ha ha ha ha
and he turns
to Kat, sort of pushes her out to the
side a little bit more, looks down,
pulls out, knocks an arrow, looks down at the giant and says, and now you can die at
the foot of your false god, giant scum.
And he draws the bow and he fires.
First shot is a 23 to hit, 83 on concealment.
He does four points of fire damage.
Okay.
Plus 22 points of regular damage.
Oh, good lord.
Second shot is another hit.
So many shots.
I rolled three fives on the three D6s.
Wow.
28 on concealment.
Okay.
He does five fire damage and 25 regular damage.
Wow.
Oh, my God.
You could kill this
if you hit it.
Oh, please kill it.
And then the last shot
is a miss.
Oh.
It's a 14.
Yeah, I rolled super low
and then he's going to say,
Cat, take him out.
Oh, no.
Cat's going to go down
the steps
and go right at the throat
of this thing.
Right at the throat of this thing with a bite.
Natty 17 hits.
And on Kat's level up, I took a point of strength.
So a little more damage on these bites.
13 points of damage on the bite.
On death's door.
On death's door.
All right. Oh, wait. On death's door. All right.
Oh, wait.
I'm not done.
Oh, what?
Lork is going to enact his quick runner shirt as a swift action and run off the side of
the steps and jump down.
And jump down.
Behind the steps.
All right.
That's a little bit of a jump there.
You want to roll an acrobatics?
Do I?
20. All right. You want to roll an acrobatics? Do I? Uh, 20.
All right, you're okay.
Okay.
Um, okay.
It's still alive.
Barely.
Cat is, like, on its throat.
Tearing away at its throat.
And it is Pembroke's turn.
Uh, all right.
Well, I'm just going to try once more.
Get another strength check.
Break out. Come on, baby. Use going to try once more. Get another strength check. Break free.
Come on, baby.
Use all your old man strength.
Natural daughter.
16.
Still can't get out.
Oh, man.
What a shame.
It just lets you know if you get hit by this thing, it could get ugly.
This is such a fun session for me.
What a bummer, man.
I hate creatures like this.
I literally can't even talk. I literally can't even talk.
I might as well not even...
Just tell me to come in
like 90 minutes late next time.
One of those episodes
of a TV show
where you see one actor
obviously head off.
Yeah, yeah.
For some reason,
they're not written
into the story.
Yeah, exactly.
I was shooting a movie
that week.
Yeah, not being able
to talk is pretty tough
for radio.
It is.
All right, the Frost Giants turn. He's going to able to talk is pretty tough for radio. It is. All right,
the Frost Giants turn.
He's going to stand up
and provoke
from Cat Benatar.
Okay.
Cat Benatar will do
a quick bite.
17 total.
Yeah,
but it's minus four
to his AC.
He's prone,
like as he's getting up.
As he's standing up,
don't you count
the regular AC?
I don't know.
I would say
he's in a weak position yeah no hit
okay no hit get out of there cat uh he stands up i mean i gotta swing at this stupid cat yeah you do
oh damn it um that was my move action so i can only take one attack one attack power attack just attack. Power attack. Just for shits and gigs. Shits and gigs. Ah, god, I hope I
crit this stupid cat.
Alright, uh, 25
to hit. Oh, just
hits. Just hits.
Wait till you see this damage.
This is gonna be you. Oh, I actually
rolled two ones on two d6s.
Yeah. And a six.
Still 30 points of damage.
Oof. Ouch.
Just greataxe. Greataxe comes down. Oof. Ouch. Just great axe.
Great axe comes down.
Ba-boom.
Ba-boom.
Blood is just gushing out of his neck
from where Cat latched on.
Yes.
All right.
It is this flying ethereal creature's turn.
This one has barely been hit,
and it flies up in the direction
of Sweet, Sweet Baron.
Sweet Baron Jones.
This is going to be a cone effect.
Don't even bother with Lork.
Well, it's a 30-foot cone.
But Lork's behind the wall.
Oh, you're down.
Yes, okay.
That was the whole point.
All right, so this is just on straight up on.
You could fly and get Cat, and the giant's immune to frost damage, so you might as well
get both of us. I've made my choice.
Alright,
it is going to be
a
reflex save for you there, Baron.
Then it hit? It's the breath.
Oh, it's the breath one.
Natural
one. Oh, no.
That's a fail.
Bummer.
I rolled four D6s. 666 Oh, no. That's a fail. Bummer. Bummer. Oh, oh, oh.
I rolled four D6s.
Six, six, six, five.
You are the devil.
So, six, six, six.
That's true.
So, 23 points of damage.
Cold damage.
And now...
You said 23?
23.
18 plus five.
23 points of cold damage.
And now roll a fortitude sieve
Great
Hey if you have a bottle cap
I'm gonna throw
Great time for a bottle cap
I'm gonna throw a bottle cap if you don't
I don't have one
Alright I'm throwing one of my bottle caps
Alright
Teamwork
Troy
Do it
I actually
Okay
I actually think that I have another bottle cap
But I didn't keep track of it at the time
So I'm just gonna get rid of it
So no complaints
Alright I make it Oh there you go 19 I'm just going to get rid of it so no complaints. Alright, I make it.
19 and an 18 just roll
and rocks. We forgot it was
Grant Rowan. It's much colder.
Just imagine Baron.
The winds are coming down
and he's like, ah, it's so cold.
I hate it here so much.
You know what I forgot?
Every single time Feyraza was next to
that thing, she was supposed to take the aura damage.
You keep forgetting that.
I'm forgetting it.
It's cold damage.
I have energy.
Okay, so you're fine.
So when does that tick?
At the end of, if you end your turn next to it, or if it ends its turn next to you?
I think it's probably if you.
At the beginning of the creature's turn.
All creatures within the range.
Yeah, and she was never within range.
I was never.
Yeah, she was always. No, she always flew away. No, but one time. Oh, you're right. That's right. At the beginning of the creature's turn. All creatures within the range. Yeah, and she was never within range. I was never... Yeah, she was always...
No, she always flew away.
No, but one time he...
Oh, you're right.
That's right.
At the beginning of the creature's turn.
So good.
We didn't do anything wrong.
And she is not within range of Baron.
She stayed back to
throw this out there.
One thing we can say
with confidence
through this entire combat
is that we didn't do anything wrong.
I think this is going
a lot better than I thought
it was going to go.
It's going really well for you guys.
As usual, I've lost my round tracker, but I think we're in round eight.
Baron, it's cold out there.
What do you got?
Baron is going to take a full round rapid shot attack action, and he's going to call out
manna from heaven, words from afar, from Mike Whiskey
from New Hampshire. He's going to look into
the eyes of the giant and say,
I hope you told your mama you love her recently
because you ain't getting another chance.
That's amazing!
I love that you have a writing team now.
That's great.
That is going to be
against Touch AC and I'm just adding the plus two for Bane.
That is a 19 against Touch AC, so that is a hit.
That's a hit.
The red die is the fire die, my friend.
That is a total of 10, 13, three points of fire damage for a total of 26 points of damage.
He ain't ever going to say goodbye to his mama,
because he's dead.
That was awesome.
Wow.
Take a couple shots at this thing, man.
And then turn and do your perception.
And then Baron is going to
regain a grip point, which is great.
How far away
is the ice creature from Baron?
It is in your normal range now. It is like 50 feet away.
So it's flying as well.
50 feet away.
I have to give you an exact number, right?
Yeah.
I would say 50 to 60.
Does that make a difference?
It does make a difference.
60.
60.
So that is two range increments out.
So this will be a minus four.
But again, he's going to spend a grip point to resolve against regular A.
All right.
Dirty bastard.
Do it.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, that's going to be minus four.
So plus... So that is a...
Maybe not.
This is my second attack?
Yes.
Okay, so that's plus seven.
That's 21 against touch AC.
Yeah, that'll hit.
Yeah, baby.
That is a total of 19 points of damage.
And the fire.
You got to do the fire, too.
Oh, right.
I forgot about the fire.
Five points of fire damage.
Nice.
19 regular five fire.
Oh, that did some damage.
Kill it.
Oh, my God.
I don't like this thing.
The final attack, Baron is hoping this is going to resolve against regular AC.
Okay.
It's going to be at a minus four.
So this is only a plus two.
So Baron needs
basically a natural 20.
Probably a natural 20.
Baron's already
rolled one tonight.
And you know what?
Daddy's feeling hot.
Seven.
Lucky seven.
Lucky seven.
Take me to the craft table.
Daddy's feeling hot,
but Baron's feeling cold.
All right.
Fey Raza.
Raza is going to cast...
One creature left, this thing.
This thing's been plaguing you for two episodes.
She's going to cast Cure Light Wounds on herself.
Probably a smart idea.
Self-preservation.
Lork.
Lork is going to make his way around.
He sees Baron.
Boom! Gunshot. Giant falls.
He's going to run around the side of the steps and leap onto the giant's dead body.
Nimbly, nimbly looking for this creature.
Do I have to roll to see it, or is that an action it has to take?
Oh, shit. I forgot. Every single time Baron fired at it, he was supposed to roll stealth versus perception.
I forgot.
I'm just so excited.
That's all right.
So it's not an action it has to take.
It's like every time I have to roll perception.
Yeah, you've got to roll perception
because this just has a natural stealth, yeah.
All right, got it.
Roll in perception.
I don't see it.
Natural one.
Natural one.
Well, I guess I got a 23.
You actually do see it.
Oh, wow.
I rolled a 22 stealth.
Awesome.
Wow.
Awesome. Okay, beautiful. So he comes 22 stealth. Awesome. Wow. Awesome.
Okay, beautiful.
So he comes around and he will take one shot at this thing with...
Palms are sweaty.
Yeah.
With deadly aim on.
Throwing up mom's spaghetti.
And he gets a 19.
19 misses.
Figured.
It's going to be a tough, tough, tough shot for you.
And I didn't even roll concealment, so that doesn't matter. But I still have to roll concealment,
right? Because that's the darkness. Yeah.
There's a lot going on here. That's why I'm forgetting
half of it. Alright.
Pembroke's turn. Another strength check?
Might as well.
Alright. Come on!
14.
14.
Poor Pem's over there. You know, it's probably the safest
place for Pembroke. Alright's probably the safest place, Port Pembroke.
All right.
It is this creature's turn.
Let's see if I have a chance to use this breath weapon again.
I'll roll the D4 in front of you.
A 1.
I can use it again.
Anything else?
I have to wait.
And I rolled.
Oh, no.
A 1.
Oh, my God.
And now Cat, Lork, and Baron are all in.
My business!
I specifically meant to send Cat
to a different spot and never did it.
Flies around, that's what you get for putting poop
on those oranges!
Cat, Lork, and Baron
all roll a reflex save.
Alright, Lork makes it
21.
21, you're okay. Catty makes it 21. 21.
You're okay.
Catty bends.
Cat, 23.
All right.
So you're going to take half damage, only five points of cold damage each, but now you've all got to roll Fortitude saves.
Cat and Lork take no damage.
Oh.
They both have evasion now.
Oh, fancy.
Wow.
They both have evasion.
22.
All right. Baron is steel.
It's that fur-lined hat he got from, what was the name of the hat maker?
Oh, Roy.
Roy the Hat Maker.
Roy the Hat Maker slash Guard Captain.
What a badass.
Thank you, Roy.
Fortitude saves for those two.
For what?
For the entrapment.
Oh, no, but they didn't take any damage.
I assume you have to take damage. Oh, so where you didn't take any damage. I assume you have to take damage.
Oh, so where you didn't take any damage,
you don't have to roll the Fortitude save.
They evaded.
I don't know what it says,
but I think if you have to take damage,
you take the Fortitude save, don't you?
Interesting.
I hope I get hammered for this on the boards,
but I'm going to allow it.
I'm going to allow it.
That would never happen.
It makes sense.
Yeah, it makes sense.
We evaded the attack.
I think that makes sense.
You evaded the attack.
Yeah, what could have actually...
It's the ice that is holding you in place.
Okay.
All right.
Damn it.
I want someone to get frozen like Pembroke.
I want another Pembrokesicle.
Oh, man.
All right.
So that did...
That really did nothing.
I'd like that, too, actually, because I'd have someone to talk to while all this game
playing is happening.
Hey, Troy.
Troy, you had to get mighty close to catch me and everyone else in that breath weapon, didn't you?
I am within your range.
Oh, wow.
Are you within my touch AC range?
But now I'm going to make you roll a perception check against its stealth.
Oh, right.
Baron's going to take a five-foot step because he sees behind him the bloodthirsty and reckless lork ready for battle at all times.
And he's going to rapid shot at this.
Take it out.
First thing I want you to do is roll a perception check.
See it.
Can you see it?
That is a 31.
31.
And I rolled a 31.
So it's successful.
Well, yeah.
It's like a perception check.
It's successful. It's perception successful, so you can, it's like touch AC. It's successful.
It's successful, so you can attack it.
Oh, wow.
Here we go, baby.
Oh, that's gonna be a hit.
That is a 25 against touch
AC for a total of
18 points of damage, one of which is fire.
Oh, God. Okay.
Second attack.
Is going to miss.
Okay, good. Missed fire.
You said a 14.
No, it did not miss fire.
All right.
Is a 16 against Touch AC a miss?
What was that 14 you were about to say?
It's 11 plus 5 is 16.
All right, that'll hit.
All right.
That is very close to minimum damage.
That is 16 points of damage, one of which is fire.
16, one fire. Okay.
The final attack. These things have hit
points. Where's that crit?
Alright, so that is a 16 against
Touch AC again, so that is a total of 21
points of damage, three of which is fire.
21 damage, three of which
is fire. Still alive.
Oh no! Still alive!
Oh no!
Come on, Eddie Vedder.
Faraza.
Hanging out with Pembroke, I see.
Can I, as a bird, can I try to break Pembroke free?
Is there, like, peck at the ice?
You're going to have to do serious damage to it to break it through.
So it's not worth it is what you're telling me?
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, you could cast a spell, but you might kill Pembroke in the process.
You know what?
Farazza is going to land an unwild shape.
Okay, land unwild shape.
Okay.
Lork.
Lork is going to take aim at this creature.
So first he'll roll.
She makes her flat check, by the way.
First perception.
First perception.
He gets a 37. You can see it. Now concealment. If you want to roll that with the'll roll. She makes her flat check, by the way. First perception. First perception. He gets a 37.
You can see it.
Now concealment.
If you want to roll that with the attack roll, okay.
Yeah, so he'll attack, and that's a 16 to hit.
So that's a miss anyway, right?
16 misses, yep.
Shit.
Fire arrow goes sailing by.
Another 37 on perception.
No, once you see it, I'm saying you can see it.
For the round.
Okay, so then the attack, a second miss.
Both arrows miss.
Last attack?
No, I didn't do rapid shot because I'm trying to keep the two hit up because it's harder to hit.
That makes sense.
I'm keeping deadly aim on but not rapid shot.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Pems, maybe now's the time.
All right.
I wanted to say, I don't know why I didn't think of this last round.
I'm going to send Kat over to Pembroke because I went down behind the stairs.
Okay.
So I saw him, and so now that there's nobody on the ground,
I'm going to send Kat over and say try to get him out, but it's a push.
I wasn't able to do it before, but I think I could now.
25.
Exactly.
Okay.
So Kat is going to go over there and try and bite at the ice.
Yeah.
She can only double move there this round.
Okay. She can't charge over there. All right. Fine. ice. Yeah, she can only double move there this round. Okay.
She can't charge over there. Alright, fine.
Pems, this is a big one.
Training.
Natty 20, baby. Natty 20.
Your do-bad-to-feed muscles, 15.
Come on! I'm rolling
very well, but I have a minus 2.
Oh, that's brutal.
What is it? Do we know what the strength check
is? I do. Yeah. I assumed you know what the strength check is? I do.
Yeah.
I assumed you did.
The Royal We is what I've been.
Troy is Royal We.
All right.
It is its turn, and it is going to just land directly next to Baron and slam for a 22.
That is a miss, my friend.
One time I just
had a roll. Miss. Alright, comes
back up to Baron. Baron, five foot
step, fire away. That is what is gonna happen,
my friend.
Roll a perception check.
That is a 21.
21 perception? You can't see it.
So that means the whole round you just
can't even attack.
Am I committed to that full round attack? What are you gonna rule? perception, you can't see it. So that means the whole round you just can't even attack it. Alright, so since I'm
Am I committed to that full round attack?
What are you going to rule? Can I like go
do a potion or something? You step back, you start it to aim
and you can't see it. So can I take a potion
or something? Sure.
You know, that's just a quick potion. I'm picturing
you waving the gun around like, it was just here!
It was just here! He sees it, he sees
Lork behind it on the stairs.
Okay, so Baron steps back.
And when he sees nothing in front of him,
he decides to use a level zero spell on himself.
Oh, that's right. It's self-buff town, Troy.
Acid splash?
Guidance.
Guidance on his next attack.
Just a plus one little competence bonus.
That might be all it takes.
Feyraza, you're over there.
Cat Benatar's over there.
So I can hit the ice, right, without risk of damaging him?
You can.
Now, you saw both Lork and Baron attacking it,
and they were having trouble with it.
So you can, but what are you going to use?
Quarterstaff.
Quarterstaff?
All right, swing away
You're just rolling damage, so
Oh, you're just rolling damage?
You gotta see if you can get over the hardness
Six points of damage
Yeah, you just
Can't break through it
Alright, that's my turn
Lork
Draw the quarterstaff and swing
Okay, Lork is going to first roll perception
On this thing
28 28? I think I might have gotcha Evan, swing. Okay. Lork is going to first roll perception on this thing.
28.
28?
I think I might have got you.
Yeah.
You can't see it.
Shit.
But you can now act.
So he's looking as well.
There's no way to ready an action, right?
Because it has to be based on a perception. So I can't ready an action to attack when I see it.
Right.
And I can't ready a full action anyway.
Yeah, Lork is just going to keep looking for it.
And he's going to have Cat Benatar, because she pushed last round.
She's going to try to go to town on the ice.
Okay.
Just biting and clawing at the ice?
Yeah, just biting and clawing at the ice.
Just damage.
First claw, 10 points of damage.
Okay.
Roll the next one.
Second claw, 8 points of damage. And you break the next one. Second claw, eight points of damage.
And you break Pembroke.
Oh, wow.
Cat Benatar, along with Feyroza.
Oh, man.
Cat just comes through.
Claw, claw, claw, claw, claw.
Pembroke is free.
And then she fights Pembroke.
Third claw just goes on Pem.
Okay, so, Lork, that's your action?
Yeah, I'm not going to do anything else.
Pembroke, you are available to act.
It is now your turn.
Yes!
Okay.
All right.
Hey, Skid, how you doing?
Hi.
Hey, welcome to the episode 151.
He wasn't prepared to play.
No, I really didn't think I'd get out.
Um, uh, I'm going to cast, uh, Infernal Healing on myself.
Infernal Healing?
I'm going to pull out the little vial
of demon's blood
and anoint myself
with it.
When you get that feeling,
you need Infernal Healing.
Hand shaking
from the cold
and he puts the blood
on his...
Ah, the warmth
of demon's blood.
Ah, yes, feels good.
Last round, I came down to do a slam-a-lama-ding-dong on Baron.
Baron definitely moved out of the way and didn't hit.
So I was like, oh, let me see if I can roll the breath weapon again.
I forgot to roll it.
Rolled it now.
A one on a D4.
Yeah, had a feeling.
Baron, I need a reflex save, buddy.
That's going to be a 22 my friend all right half
damage now roll your fortitude save natural one for a 13 no no that is a fail natural one on a
save is a fail you are frozen oh no damn how much? Just when we get Pembroke out. Eight points of cold damage, and Baron is encased in carbonite.
Oh, come on.
You just lost your gunslinger, the one that was doing damage.
New round, and it's Baron's turn.
Strength check?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Let's do this, baby.
He's got some strength.
Get out.
He's got some strength.
He's got zero strength, but that's better than...
That's a ten.
No.
I can't get out of there.
It's cold, Baron. It's so cold. I don't know. I can't get out of there. It's cold, Baron.
It's so cold.
I don't know.
I can't talk and I'm helpless, right?
You can talk.
Oh.
Get me out of here, please.
Please, please.
Please.
I don't like it in here.
I didn't plan for this.
Fey Raza.
This whole preparing spells is a real bummer.
Okay, she's going to wild shape into a penguin.
Penguin.
Penguin.
Penguin.
Belly slide to the front of the stairs.
Waka, waka, waka, waka, waka.
Actually, you know what?
First, she's going to hit herself with the wand of cure light wounds if she's going to get into this.
Stop hitting yourself.
Stop hitting yourself. Stop hitting yourself.
Four points of healing.
Four points.
And what'd you get on that last one?
Three?
I rolled a two on the last one.
A two on the last one.
Luckily, that was the spell, so I could have my, you know, I got a little more.
Gross.
So you have no more cure spells prepared.
No.
Oof.
Lork, I'm going to need you to roll your perception checks.
I'm assuming you're going to fire away.
Yeah, yeah.
Lork is going to roll his perception.
That's a 33. That'll be a 17.
All right. You can't see it.
This is our chance.
This is our chance. Can you bypass
the DR if you hit and if you
see? Auto magic.
I mean, I bypass the DR. Oh, because you've got the
magical weapon. Because I have a magical
bow. Okay. That is a
26 to hit,
74 concealment.
So that's good there.
That is
16 points of regular damage,
5 points of fire damage.
So this thing turns around and just
on Baron. The third time you've been hit with this
cold. Baron is now down in the 20s
I think for hit points. Getting close.
And then you just trying
to find it. Trying to see through the dark. Trying
to actually get a glimpse of it. Fire.
And it lights up in the sky with the flame arrow
and dies.
And we'll see you next week.
It's over.
It's finally over.
I want a tropical vacation.
