launch their counter offensive.
God, this is so awful all the
time.
And the heroes will have to think
outside the box. Just by the
time we have to get into
position. It's all about positioning for
us. Right, but I don't know how much
longer we should wait. To
get the upper hand. I have a backup, but here's what I would like longer we should wait To get the upper hand
I have a backup, but here's what I would like to do
Oh, God
So what I'm gonna do regardless
There's one in every group
You love it
But the giants keep turning the tables
All right, so he stops 15 feet away from the fire giant
However, I knew it
The adventure continues
You're not going anywhere
Where do you think you're going anywhere where do you think
you're going
where do you think
you're going
now what's going on everyone happy mid-october to you and welcome back to the glass cannon podcast
it's your boy grant burger aka the sheriff of true now baron ash Peak. And as the party is currently exploring the deadly depths of the dormant Ash Peak volcano,
the Glass Cannon crew have been on some journeys of our very own in real life.
We just got back from beautiful Los Angeles,
where we had another great live show and a ton of fun hanging out with the niche.
I was also thrilled to discover I possess a distinct fear of heights brought on by my hike through Runyon Canyon, which I do not recommend doing on running shoes with no tread on the sole.
Although terrifying at times, it was a lovely view of Los Angeles, and I'm sure I made some of the other hikers laugh and pity me as I crab-walked my way down a treacherous stretch of the path. I guess I pass my climb check.
I won't have to worry about those on our next stop, though, which is Troy LaVallee's home turf of Boston, Massachusetts.
We are so excited to be sold out, not just there, but in Philly.
But as a reminder to those of you with tickets for Boston, we'll be at Paradise Club, presented by Citizens Bank on November 3rd.
Doors are at 7 and the show is at 8, but hey, you might be listening now and thinking,
gee Grant, I'm thrilled to be going to the show, but whatever am I supposed to do with the rest of my day leading up to this momentous occasion?
Well, you can sign up for 6 hours of gaming with the rest of the nation town. From 12 to 6, there's a GCP fan meetup the same day at Alpha Omega Hobby in Quincy, Massachusetts.
The event has been graciously organized by Jen, Jen with two N's, and Aaron, aka Banana Cleric.
They're looking for GMs and players, so sign up online.
I'll tweet that out by the time this episode is up so check out my twitter
if you haven't followed me yet you can follow me at grant burger but if you thought a day of gaming
and an electric live show in troy's hometown weren't enough we're also going to be unveiling
a brand new t-shirt troy and i worked on and boy oh boy this is a fun one i'd love to tell you more
about it but troy has threatened my life should i divulge any particulars on this sartorial delight.
But if there are any left from this show, keep an eye out on the website and the days after for a chance to grab one yourself.
Well, friends, let's dive back into the vicious world of Book 5.
Please enjoy Episode 229.
I am keeping the bullshit to a minimum up top today because I really want to get in to this episode.
We're going to do a little bit of bullshit because there's a couple things I want to talk about that are more like just gaming in general and GMing and playing a long-term campaign.
I want to talk a little bit about that, but then I just want to jump in.
I feel like the last two episodes have been great examples of the sort of terror that has been induced now by this dungeon.
Because even though you've been mashing through it, there is fear around every corner.
There is fear of a power attack from a greatsword.
That's a palpable fear even
though you've been able to uh succeed well i think one of the reasons we've been successful is because
we've been cautious right um but it's this is what i want to talk about uh you know as gamers it's
it's a fine line between being cautious and being over cautious to the point that you're like just
moving at a snail's pace and do you feel that we're being over cautious i don't think and moving
at a snail's pace one i don't think so too're being overcautious? I don't think so. And moving at a snail's pace?
One, I don't think so.
Two, a lot of that
depends on me.
Like, how many times
have I been going to ask you
to roll a stealth check?
I think I'm finding
a good balance.
I'm not making you roll it
as often as I'm sure
there are other GMs
that do it.
I'm trying to find
that balance,
but it's a hard thing
trying to create
and instill a sense of fear
and keep things moving.
But the end of last episode was a good example.
I think it was right at the end where you're moving along and like, I know there's a trap
coming.
I want all of you to walk into that trap.
And so I'm having you roll these stealth checks to one for stealth purposes, because I know
there are creatures in the room that can hear you.
But two, it's kind of throw you off your guard so that you'll forget about that perception check.
What do you think?
Do you think it slows the game down
or do you like the sort of reality of the situation
being played out of your rules?
I personally like it because I think it's different.
This to me feels different than the average dungeon
in that we know the enemy knows we're here
we know they are waiting for us us specifically us specifically personally and we we're starting
to get the sense now that they are like that they will release traps on us and ambush us regularly and so that is we seem to be just by doing the average thing
moving forward being stealthy going invisible checking for traps doing all the things we're
supposed to do we could be walking right into the net and we also don't know we have limited access
to resources to kind of recharge and refresh as well because we have to spend teleport you know spells to get out of here like
we're in the middle of like this is like uh uh uh you only live twice it's like we're in the volcano
yeah we are in the enemy layer we're under the volcano you know it's like we we're it's uh it's
this is we're we have we're in a bad Yeah, Bond can't hide out in a broom closet and heal for eight hours.
Yeah, just take a nap.
Right.
Right.
And I respect the way that you guys have played this.
You have not rested a lot since you've walked into Ashbeak.
This is not Skirgard.
Now, Skirgard was different.
Skirgard allowed you to come in, come out, come in, come out.
We were guerrilla warfaring.
We had a camp overlooking the overlooking the encampment right this is much different because you know that every
time you leave it's giving them more time to figure out how to best you now that you've been
you've made yourselves known you blew up the ceiling between you know the first level and the
the grinder we also have we have a linear route that we have to follow through this place whereas
in like skier guard this was like they didn't know where we were going to strike next.
Right, right, right.
Obviously, there are some twists and turns, but with the exception of that storming the castle,
which I want to reiterate, I don't think that was a waste of time,
even though you only came up with plus two or plus three large crossbows.
Is that all?
That's pretty great.
Yeah, that's pretty great.
But I'm saying, saying like it wasn't like
We didn't take a point of damage. Yeah, you didn't take any damage
and it just reinforced
the fact that like they
are preparing for
an all-out war and maybe
reinforce the stakes to you of what you're up against.
So I'm not calling that a loss. But if you're
just trying to move through the quickest path
between A and B, that
was not it.
However, it seems like this might be it because there were no other ways to go unless you start backtracking around to those earlier caverns that you bypassed.
So you come in here and you go through this maze.
You miss that trap by five.
I want you to roll a 24, O'Brien.
I'm like, oh, God. So, O'Brien, roll a perception.rian rolling perception i got him i got him was he how many of them i could catch it was a natural nine too i'll tell you
right now was it bad it was a chamber of blades trap that sounds oh so you know i was gonna if
you went through and set it off i was just gonna see does anybody follow uh dalgirth on his heels
and everybody else that's the thing. With those big
traps, you have to let the first person not
really trigger it yet. Right. You've got to get
a couple more on. Get a couple more in. And then, oh,
there's enough weight on it and shakunk.
Yeah, it's pretty bad. I mean, it just
keeps going on if you
can't get out of there. Plus 20 to hit for 3d8
plus 3 damage. Wow.
Sawblades
come through and take you out.
It's also really loud.
So that would have let
the other creatures
in the room know,
obviously,
that there's people coming.
Now, a couple things
that you did do.
Dalgrith was stealthing along
and then once you guys
got into the room,
you kind of stopped stealthing.
Obviously, Baron lit up
that stone
and tossed it in his hand
in a dark room
if there are anybody behind that wall watching now they're like what's going on over there
and then metra you come up you stealth on that broom and i rolled an amazing perception check
i rolled a natty 18 on the perception to see you wow so let's just uh let's just roll for initiative
well let's also right before that happens, I have a line drawn from Metra.
Roll for initiative.
A line drawn from Metra.
On roll 20.
The distance she can see.
Does she see anything else going that way across that hole?
Oh.
The sinkhole.
Do you see what I have on the map?
No, let me see your map because I can see everything. I don't see it either uh no the wall ends right there oh the sinkhole ends right there
yeah yeah okay got it kind of it's right up against the wall right what about it was gonna
be circular what about the corner that i was looking around all the way down this way uh
yeah so what i can show you is about 20 feet in front of you the wall ends oh it's not they're
around a corner yeah they're around a corner um but you do see, the wall ends. Oh, they're around a corner. Yeah, they're around a corner.
But you do see that the wall ends.
And, you know, I'll give you a little bit more there.
You can see that it opens.
So it's another, like, three feet of...
Oh, so generous.
Yeah, that's what I say.
Is it my birthday?
I don't know why you're...
So kind.
I feel like I've given you too much.
Yeah, you just see that it curves around the wall and there are creatures running directly at you i wanted to
give a quick shout out to my buddy uh dylan you don't have friends portland portland portland
listeners dylan mccann you guys know dylan he's the best he sent me did you guys see this this
clear dye oh cool it's a clear dye and it has a four-leaf clover, an actual four-leaf clover jammed into the
inside of it with flecks of gold.
He's like, it's from this Irish shop.
Wow.
And he's like, look at the Irish for you there, O'Brien.
It looks like if Goldschlager wished it was a real die.
Yes.
Yes, exactly.
That's exactly what it looks like.
It's called Lucky Clover Dice.
Roll with the luck of the clover.
I'm so glad that we have irony infused into your rolls, thanks to Dylan.
I know.
Well, now I want to see how it does.
I'm going to roll a little Anish.
Your boy Dylan gave me this D3, right?
That's right.
He sent us the D3s a few years ago.
This D3?
Yeah, that's Dylan.
Skid and I went to GCP West a couple years ago, long before the live tour, and that's
where I met Dylan.
He was like, here, give this one to that shitty, shitty guy, Joe.
I think I threw it in the trash, but I kept mine, which I was excited about.
Let's talk initiative here.
Don't worry about the surprise round for now.
Thune got a 17.
Dalgrith?
I got a 19.
No, I'm sorry, a 21.
Okay, I'll go 19.
Metra?
25.
25.
I knew this was an important initiative roll, so I used my Dimension of Time, Planar Infusion
to roll twice and take the better result.
Oh, that's fun.
You've got new powers every day.
That's an old power.
Jimma?
I did get a 19.
You did get a 19, okay.
And Baron, you look very excited over there, Grant.
32.
Oh, boy.
All right. A lot of good it'll do you, though. I know over there, Grant. 32. Oh, boy. All right.
A lot of good it'll do you, though.
I know.
I'm so far away.
We're so far away.
Okay.
So for surprise round here, Metra, a fire giant gets right up in your face.
Oh, no.
Oh, my God.
That's so fast.
And I don't think I'm able to charge.
Yeah, no, it's just a move action.
It moves up and just gets right up in your business.
She's cruising at 32,000 feet, though.
That's true.
She's extremely high.
The chamber isn't that high.
No, no, no.
You're certainly within range of these 16-foot tall giants.
Let's go into round.
Yeah, let's.'s Actually you know what
Who's down here at the bottom
Baron
Baron's down at the bottom
Dalgrey's up at the top there
Okay um
Baron you're gonna
What are you doing
We're so far away
Oh boy
And it's dark How are they seeing What are you doing? We're so far away. Oh, boy. Yes, yes.
And it's dark.
It's dark, too.
So how are they seeing?
Yeah.
How are they seeing?
It's a good question.
But you think this thing is looking directly at you, Metra, and it's a fire giant.
It's completely dark here.
Baron, you feel a rock just come flying over the wall in your general direction.
I wonder.
And, yeah, 19 against flat-footed.
That's a miss.
That's a miss.
So it just hits the wall behind you and shatters.
Gravel pelting you from in your back as it explodes.
And you take 7d 76 worth of pelting
damage uh
baron it's your turn in round one that's all
you see so uh baron's
going to step into the area of the room
that no one has stepped in
i think he's going to take
a five foot step towards the edge
of what looks like a bit of
a a higher ground
now you have dark vision up to 60 feet, right?
Correct.
All right, so that giant that is molesting Metra
and whatever came over the wall, you cannot see.
Do they have an aura of life at all from their hair?
They don't.
They should.
I feel like that fire giants need to be rebuilt mechanically.
If they have this flaming hair and beard,
they should emit some sort of light,
but they don't.
So Baron at least is going to,
well, he has light,
but it's not going to help.
I think, you know what I think?
I have some homework for you, Joe.
Between this week and next week,
I want you to look up Fire Giants in second edition
and let me know if they account for that
or if they've changed anything.
You know how I imagine it?
I imagine it like a cigarette ash.
Like it's light you can see,
but it doesn't really emit light. It doesn't
illuminate anything. Right, so you can see it burning,
crisping, like their beard,
and you would be able to see it from a distance. But then we
should be able to see them in that instance.
Someone's smoking a giant cigar over there!
That's what I'm saying. We should be able to see them.
Yeah, I agree. You can't really hide when your
head is on fire. Baron is going to double move in the direction of metra okay
stop right there because oh boy as you move all of a sudden the floor drops out from under you
oh no oh jesus i'm just to move you back one spot here.
Oh, he's so happy.
I've never been happier.
Oh, no.
And you fall 50 feet into the pitch.
Oh, my God.
No.
Let me just grab my broom of...
There are some spikes down there as well,
but there's just a lot of things to deal with
here. Let's start with the falling
damage.
You fall 50 feet.
Boom! And you take 12 points
of falling damage.
But let's see if these spikes
are going to hit. You took 12 on 5d6?
I rolled fucking garbage
at 5d6. Best possible outcome.
Now here's the thing.
Before I see if these spikes
are going to attack you, a successful
reflex slave will
negate all possible
spike damage and I rolled
maximum spikes. So Baron
has just been fatality'd
into the pit in Mortal Kombat 1.
Finish it! Let's see what it gets.
Come on.
19 on the die.
37.
37 reflexes.
So amazing!
Just kicking back and forth,
pushing his hands.
You just land with a spike
like inches away from your scrotum.
It's always,
how I imagine it, by the way,
when you have these traps,
the spike traps, and it's like reflex save die, just that I'm always like, oh, it's so close to your scrotum.
Just dodged it.
Yeah.
Hell of a landing.
However, you are 50 feet at the bottom of a pit.
Wow.
You had a little bit of movement left.
So what do you want to do with that?
movement left uh so what do you want to do with that uh if i do a climb check and i fail do i risk taking damage from the spikes how high you get up you fail 10 feet how much you fail by you
have to stand up too yeah first you're prone up on the okay so can i just stand up and call it, call it around. Yeah, I think that's smart. Um,
awesome.
Start.
Metro.
You're up.
There's a fire giant right in front of you looking right at you in the
dark.
Okay.
What's the speed on brew of flying?
Uh,
40 feet,
probably your weight.
It could be 30 feet depending on how much you weigh.
I am under 200 pounds.
So 40,
40 feet.
Okay.
So that'll get me
not close enough to you.
What am I going to do?
Just provoke that attack of op.
I know that's what you want me to do.
I know that's exactly what you want me to do.
Just swan dive into the pit.
me to do. I know that's exactly what you want me to do. Just swan dive into the
pit.
No, it's... I'll die.
I will die. So I will
say the command word and I'll activate the
cloak of etherealness.
There you go. But the problem
with this is now it's going to take me another round
to come out of the ethereal plane. Have we had this
conversation before that doesn't provoke? Doesn't
provoke. Doesn't provoke, yes. Okay, so you just you go ethereal. And then on but we're still on the broom. Like I'm on of the ethereal plane. Have we had this conversation before that doesn't provoke? Doesn't provoke. Doesn't provoke, yes. Okay, so you just, boom, you go ethereal.
And then on, but we're still on the broom.
Like, I'm on the broom on the ethereal plane.
Right.
So then I turn around and fly 40 feet back towards Baron.
Wow, okay.
Before I say the command where I say, they're coming!
And then I go, zoom!
And the giant says, who's coming?
Who?
What language was she speaking? And then I go, come here. And the giant says, who's coming? Who?
What language was she speaking?
Talgryth, you are up.
You saw Baron just be like... How big is this trap?
Hold on, I'll be right back.
How big is the trap?
What did he trigger?
Was it just the five feet that he set?
No, it's ten by ten.
Ten by ten.
Yeah, the whole ground has dropped out.
Thunes, stay back.
We have to assume this.
Traps everywhere.
I am told to follow mother.
Oh, no.
She'll be back, Thun, as I say to my three-year-old constantly.
She's screaming because Aaron's at the store.
I want mother.
She's coming back.
She's coming back, dude.
Relax. Thun just goes to the pit and starts crying
I'm gonna delay
You're gonna delay?
Yeah because I gotta
Metro has to fix this Baron situation
Alright well let's see if Jimmer can fix the situation
You're up Jimmer
Jimmer says I think it's time for a little bit of liquid courage.
And he reaches down and pulls out the drinking horn of bottomless valor.
And starts drinking.
Great time to use it.
Perfect timing.
All right, drink up, Jimmer.
It is Thune's turn.
Thune looks to Dalgrith.
Perhaps I shall hold as well.
Yes.
All right.
And so Thune holds, and it is fire giant time.
Metra, you are ethereal.
So this fire giant here, with one hand, reaches into his pocket and throws a
rock at Dalgrith
and
misses. Sweet!
And then over the wall
behind you a rock comes
flying at Jimmer
crack die
and misses. Boom!
Hits the wall and misses
and then this fire giant
that, the first one that threw the
rock that Metro was up against
is going to
rush into the room.
And that is the end of their
turn, and it is Baron's
turn. Baron, you are 50 feet below.
What is your climb check? Oh, boy.
Only a plus seven.
Not great.
Not great, Bob.
You want to do a double, so to try and do half speed as opposed to quarter speed?
What's my check looking like there?
What's the DC of the climb?
DC 20.
DC 20?
Wow, so I really can't move
Anywhere really unless I roll
Really well so
Do I stay in place at a certain threshold
Of the DC or no
Yeah if you make the
DC 20 check then you can
You don't
You just gotta make the check if you don't you come
Back down but at this rate
If you fail you stay in place if you fail by 5 Or more you fall that's you come back down. But at this rate... If you fail, you stay in place. If you fail by five or more,
you fall. That's what I was asking. Right.
But at this distance, I'm...
I mean, the first thing, it doesn't matter.
Alright, let's go. On the fall.
Natural 20. Oh, there you go.
Good time to roll it.
You know, in second edition, when you roll a natural
20 on a climb check, you move double speed
on the climb. Right. Which is nice.
In this case, you just succeed, and you're going to move half speed.
Five feet.
No, because you're going to double move, right?
Gotcha.
So you use the one roll for both moves.
You don't have to roll again.
I'm fine with that, yeah.
I'm okay with this.
So it's ten feet.
Yeah, so you move ten feet, and now you're up ten feet.
Now you definitely don't want to fall.
Let's keep it moving to Metra.
Metra, you're flying along.
You're flying along in the room.
Let's keep it moving to Metra.
Metra, you're flying along, you're flying along in the room.
Metra is going to fly up over basically just beyond the pit.
How wide is the pit?
It's 10 by 10.
Which 10 by 10?
I'll draw it for you.
It's important.
Because you would see at this point the ground has dropped out there.
See it?
Yep.
Okay.
So Metro will kind of... Basically, she'll get as far as just over Baron, say the command word, and appear back on the
Aetherial plane.
Move action, standard action.
Okay.
All right.
And she's going to say...
Free action.
She'll say...
And she'll say, Baron, get back down to the ground.
Oh. all right.
Metra has something planned, as usual.
Dalgrith, you delayed your turn, and now it's back to you.
All right.
So seeing Metra head down into the trap, the fire giant.
I'm not in the trap.
Oh, you're not in the trap.
You're just hovering over it?
Yeah.
I'm like 10 feet above the floor, where the floor would be.
Yeah.
I am going to...
I'm going to delay one more time.
I want to see if this fire giant runs at me, basically,
and then I'll decide what to do.
Okay.
I don't think I will.
Jimmer, you just finished taking a big old sip.
What do you want to do?
It's actually two round actions,
two full round actions
to complete the three charge process.
So I'm going to continue doing that.
Okay.
Thun looks to Dalgrith.
Do we just wait here?
Aye.
Let's see what Metro's got up his sleeve.
It's going to give us some great advantage and we'll wait until Jim is done drinking.
Once he's done, he's going to be a whole hell of a lot scarier, Thun.
Just behind our time. We have to get into position.
It's all about positioning for us.
Right, but I don't know how much longer we should wait.
It's Fire Giant's turn.
Over the rock wall, another rock comes flying,
this time at Jimmer again, and misses.
See, I told you, Thun you there's nothing to worry about.
I can't hit the side of a pond.
Shatters and the giant up there also holds his action, just kind of holding his ground.
Now that he sees Metra appear over that pit, he just kind of.
What giant up where?
The one that came around the wall.
So he decides to hold.
He decides to hold his action.
Okay.
And now it is Baron's turn. All right. I'm going to go? He decides to hold his action. Okay. And now it is
Baron's turn. Alright, I'm gonna go.
Oh, you wanna go? Okay. Since he held his action,
I'm gonna go and I'm gonna tell Thun,
Go with your instincts, brother.
Do what you think's best.
But I'm gonna try something that'll allow us to cover some
ground if I need to.
And he's going to whisper the command word
for the first time ever.
And use the winter wolf headband and become a large white wolf.
What?
So he's like, swash, raw, swash, raw.
And he goes into beast shape and becomes a white wolf with a massive speed increase.
Wow.
Yeah, so that's a standard action.
So that's going to be his turn. Let me give you a wolf token here.
Yeah, give me a wolf.
Very impressive.
It's a Pomeranian.
Come on, man.
It looks like a Pomeranian.
Come on.
I'll give you this one.
It's a dead wolf.
Give us the Pomeranian.
We vote for Pomeranian.
It's so sad.
No, you get the dead wolf.
Oh, come on.
You have like a chow?
All right, here, you can have this one. This one's so sad. You get the dead wolf. You have like a chow? Here, you can have this one.
This one's much better.
Oh, God.
It's covered in blood.
The dead wolf.
This wolf is a white wolf.
That's true.
It's the lightest one I have.
All right, so you turn into a wolf.
Turn into a white wolf.
And move in the initiative order.
That fire giant up there is delaying, and now it's Baron's turn because Dalgrith wins.
So Metra just told Baron to get back on the ground, correct?
So should Baron do a climb check to move back down to the spike level, or can he just drop?
What's best?
Oh, boy. I would climb back down to the spike level or can he just drop? What's best? Oh boy, I would do
I would climb back down.
There's a lot of spikes down there.
I can still maybe do the reflex save
though. Let's see what happens. So I'm going to climb down.
I'm going to climb down still, but I'm going to see
if I fail still and I fall, I can probably
still do the reflex save. That's smart.
You have to fail by five or more.
Climb check is 12.
So you do fail. I need you to roll the reflex save. Did he fail by five or more? Heimb check is 12. All right, so you do fail.
I need you to roll the reflex save.
Does he fail by five or more?
He does.
He does.
All right, so here's the reflex save.
26.
26.
You're fine.
You're ready to, again, just get down.
But back on the ground.
Back on the ground, prone between these spikes.
Nice work.
And you're just like.
But now you can stand up.
Like a chalk outline around this.
And then standard action stand up. Okay chalk outline Around this Standard action Stand up
Okay
Metro it is your turn
Alright
I have a backup
But here's what I would
Like to do
Oh god
So what I'm gonna do
Regardless
There's one in every group
You love it
Yeah
What I'm gonna do regardless
Is use my shadow well ability
Which allows me to
Switch places with a
Willing ally within 60 feet
Oh
Okay
What I would like to do Is switch feet So that Baron ends up on the broom, which I think
is fucking cool.
That's awesome.
It is really cool.
Okay.
And I'll just end up down the pit.
By the wording of the spell, you just switch places, right?
You just switch places.
It's like dimension drawing into somebody else's space.
I don't see why that wouldn't happen, plus it's really fucking cool.
That's awesome.
Unless the spell tells you That like You know a caveat
For your flying
You can't
It's absolutely prohibited
To switch places
With someone on a broom
Right
Does it say about the broom
Does it mention the broom
Read the last sentence Matthew
I mean it's
It's dimension door
It's the same text
As dimension door
So you always
You always arrive
At exactly the spot desired
Yeah I'm allowing it
With perfect balance
Does that say with perfect balance?
He probably has to make some sort of check to stay on the ground
I do have a 22 dexterity
It's fine because it's really fucking cool
So, Metro, you go down to the bottom of the pit
I want to say like, Baron, guns out
And then just like
And then Baron, you're on top of the brook
Holy
Everyone quick draws a free action.
Baron just whoosh, pulls out his gun.
Oh, that's awesome.
That's awesome.
That's so funny.
That is fucking badass.
That's great.
And then that is, you know, Metro used the quick and meta magic rod to cast mirror image on herself.
Okay.
All right.
Very good.
Now, yeah.
Okay, that's fine.
That's a swift action.
Yep.
And now it is Jim's turn. Jim, you've been drinking. All right. Very good. Now, yeah. Okay, that's fine. That's a swift action. Yep. And now it is Jimmer's turn.
Jimmer, you've been drinking.
All right.
Jimmer, have you been drinking?
I have.
No, officer, I'm fine.
Jimmer is, so he is engorged.
Sorry, enlarged.
Jesus Christ.
I don't need to know Jimmer's life story.
So he's a jom, jom, jom, boom.
Jom, jom, jom, jom, jom.
Yeah, he's going to double move and get right into this fire giant's business,
but he's not going to provoke because he also has reach now.
So he is going to stop just outside of its reach.
All right, so he stops 15 feet away
from the fire giant.
10 feet away, yeah.
That's within its reach.
That's fine, but he didn't move out of that
square. He can be in its reach.
I got you. However,
I knew it. Right when you
step to the end of
your
space there, the floor gives out your, uh, space there.
The floor gives out underneath you.
Oh, God.
And you fall. Oh, no.
50 feet. Oh, boy. Oh, Jesus.
10.
Oh!
23
points of falling damage,
and now you gotta roll a very important
reflex save all right
natural 20 oh very important huge huge so jimmy just ah boom hits the ground and
miraculously with cat-like reflexes i imagine with this since he's that large he probably just
like sticks his arms and legs out he's just hits the wall and is standing suspended.
He's laying flat suspended over the spikes.
Tom Cruise over these spikes.
Yeah.
Yeah, and Jimmer triggers another one of these traps and falls 50 feet to the ground.
I was wondering why you held on that fire giant.
Yeah, they're wily.
Thune's turn.
So now Thune sees that things look okay with Baron having switched places with Metra,
and Dalgrith just turned into a wolf and told him to go,
and Jimmer went running out there and fell.
So Thun is going to double move straight line in the direction of the fire giant.
I don't think he is going to get there.
Nope, he gets about, well, he he is going to get there.
Nope, he gets about well, he's not going to run right
into range. So he stays about 15
feet away to make sure that he's out of range
of the fire giant. But he does
double move and as usual gets right up
in the business of the giant. Moving
right along, it is the fire
giant's turn. He
had delayed.
He sees the wolf, sees that Jimmer has fallen, giant's turn he had delayed he is sees
the wolf sees that Jimmer has fallen
sees that the other one has fallen sees that
there's a man that just
appeared on a broom so he's going
to fan out
and move around the
pit where Jimmer just fell
and throw a rock at
wolf Dalgrif
and miss and then another rock
comes flying over the wall at dalgrif from way far away natural 20. oh he was looking at the
other giant yeah i mean pretty impossible not impossible but i doubt that i'll confirm uh
another natural 20 on the confirm oh shit wow he is not a
named character however this is a pretty significant uh damage here damn it um i'm assuming the fire
damage doesn't uh again it's like precision right correct okay uh oh boy oh 2d8 i rolled an 8 and a
7 15 that's 45 points of regular damage. Oh my god!
On a critical rock
and then only one point of fire damage
for the 1d6 fire.
Jeepers! Small blessings.
2d8 plus 30, I
rolled an 8 and a 7.
Woo!
15 damage. 12 on 5d6
against Baron.
12 on 5d6. Hey. 12 on 5d6.
Hey, you only put one point of fire damage.
Don't forget.
Huge crit.
And you don't even see this other creature.
You just see hands come up and a rock come flying over.
You feel like it's a giant, but you still haven't seen that creature.
He's just sitting back there throwing rocks in one, finally connected.
Natural 20 on a natural 20.
Moving right along, it is Dalgrit's
turn. Dalgrit, you just got lit up.
That rock was red hot. Yeah.
But the hot pot just grazed ya.
The token you selected for Dalgrit
seems very appropriate now. Yeah. It's a
dead dog. It's just a dead
dog. Very sad.
Just a dead dog.
So mean.
So mean. Come on, Dalgrit. Show us what you got. I can't control the world. Show me what you got. You're so mean. You're so mean. Come on, Dabra.
Show us what you got.
I can't control the...
Show me what you got.
You can't control yourself.
I can't control myself.
You're so excited.
There you go.
You should be able now.
Okay.
He's going to do a...
Oh, man.
God, this is so awful all the time.
God.
That got Troy.
That really got me.
Because he was so calm.
Where are you?
God, this is so awful all the time.
It really is.
It's like, it's so bad.
Okay.
Sheepers.
He's going to run all the way across, and really, he's putting all of his faith in Baron.
And he can kill that fire giant in one round.
Because he's going to have to.
Show me where you're running.
Show me the line of your run.
First, he's going to do a perception.
On the floor.
That is a 31.
Okay.
Looking for traps in this route, straight between the other two traps.
Okay.
You don't see any traps in that route.
Okay.
So he will then take off.
That was very purposeful of my words.
Yeah.
And then he'll do another perception check, but he fails and doesn't see any traps
and he's going to move like this way along the wall i just saw baron and metro dance around
i was trying to put myself on top so i could move i want to see if i can see around this corner
around the corner where that other fire giant might be throwing You sure can You see
A fire giant
I just love this dead dog moving around the corner
It looks so pathetic
It's so sad
That's why I couldn't see where he was
Where's that giant dead wolf
So I see the giant now
You see the giant and you see that the tunnel sort of ends
And continues off to the northwest
Like this is the rest of the room
Now you feel like you see the entire room.
The maze, the trap that you avoided,
the two traps that you've triggered,
the sinkhole, that's what you see.
Okay, well, that was a double move to get there, so.
Okay, and this is the giant.
It's another fire giant,
the one that crit you with the rock.
We're going to the top of the next round.
Baron, you are on the broom.
So I know at this point,
after seeing Jimmer drink from this horn,
that he probably weighs more than he normally does, right?
Okay, this is just like how he's seen Galavris get larger.
I have eight times mass.
Okay, so then Baron is going to do
a little bit of a do-si-do with Metra.
He's going to fly close to the ground.
That dog.
Close to the ground on the other side of the trap Jimmer is in
with his move action right on the ground.
His feet are going to be on the ground.
He has enough move action to get his feet directly on the ground.
And then he's going to whisper to the broom.
To Metra. So he's sending
the broom with a command word. You can send
a broom to any location you know.
He's sending the broom
directly to Metra to help her in
case she needs it. She may not want to,
but I wanted to send it to Jimmer, but Jimmer's huge.
So...
So you can just send the broom back.
You don't need to roll your magic device or anything. I'll read you the description send the broom back you don't need to any location as a device or anything
i'll read you the description from the the device uh it says um it flies to its owner
from as far away as 300 yards when she speaks the command word which would be mean so i could
do that whenever uh but the broom can travel alone to any destination named by the owner as long as
she has a good idea of the location and layout of that destination.
Troy is scattering dead wolves all over this, all over this map.
I wasn't even listening to you.
There's eight wolves.
There's like eight dead wolves.
I know.
He blew them up to various sides.
Yeah, they're like the sides of Mothra.
Uh, did, did he say that he could do it? Yes, I can. Yeah, they're the size of Mothra.
Did he say that he could do it?
Yes, yes, he did.
Yes, he did. I can send it to a location I know.
The location that I'm sending it to is where Metra is now,
where is where I was the previous turn.
All right, so you sweep down, jump off, tell it to go back to Metra,
and then it gets its own movement on Metra's turn, probably.
Is it on my turn, or is it on Baron's turn?
You know what?
It has movement left.
On its own.
Yeah, so I'm going to say, Metra, it appears to you.
You've got to move action to jump on it, though.
It's not going to go right between your legs.
Baron, what do you want to do?
There's nothing in here that says that is a standard action,
but I would assume speaking to a magical item would be...
Unless you can let...
Manward is a standard action.
Yeah, so I'm gonna say that's my whole turn.
Okay.
I'm gonna yell at the giant.
Come at me, I'm the bad guy. Come and get me.
Very threatening.
Metra, the broom appears right next to you.
Uh, yeah.
So if I don't want to jump on it,
it's still a move action to grab it?
Yeah.
So.
Yeah.
It's like picking up a weapon off the ground.
It'll also fly back if you have another plan.
So if I say, broom, come here, it'll come back.
So don't worry about it being there.
I'm not going to worry then.
Metro is going to.
Sorry, Troy.
Is this whole experience a bundle of anxiety for you?
I'm just nervous about all these dead wolves.
I know.
What could have caused this?
They had owners.
Metro will... It's starting to smell horrible in here.
Metro will cast Dimension Door.
Okay.
And Dimension right back to where she was
when the fire giant first caught her on the road. There you go. right back to where she was when the Fire Giant first
caught her on the road. Yeah.
Right next to Dogma. With her animal companion.
And you see a bloody wolf standing
right there. A strange bloody wolf. I'm assuming you
stab at it with all haste.
It must be an enemy.
Jimmer, you're at the bottom of this pit.
What are you doing? Wait, I'm not done yet. Are you not done yet?
Nobody takes more moves than you.
I've taken no moves.
There's one too many.
And then Metra is going to move around the dead wolf to get a straight shot looking at the fire giant.
Okay.
I also never rolled to see how many Metras there are, so let me do that right now.
There are five Metras.
All right.
Six, including her.
Six total Metras.
All right. Good for you and your Metras. Jimmer, 50-foot pit. There are five metros. Six, including her. Six total metros. Alright, good for you and your metros.
Jimmer, 50-foot pit.
What are you going to do, man?
Alright, so luckily the fall took
away mostly from the temporary
hit points that I got, that I
received when I drank from the horn of
bottomless valor. So I'm just going to
try to climb up this pit.
He stands up
as a move action.
The strength must be insane
right now. Yeah, I'm very strong.
And it's like, god damn it! He's trying to
claw his way up the sides of this pit.
Mm-hmm.
DC20 to move quarter speed.
Alright.
That is actually
a 32.
Crushed it. So with ease, you're able to move, I'm assuming, 10, 7 feet around it down?
Well, what's your movement now that you're large?
My movement's the same, but it feels weird that I can only...
I feel like it's going to take you less time because you're much taller.
I started off higher up the wall or something.
Yeah.
I'm going to say double. For you, double it. Okay. Because you're larger. You take up more wall or something. Yeah. I'm going to say double.
For you, double it.
Okay.
Because you're larger.
You take up more space than Baron.
Yeah.
I'm realizing now I think Baron, we let you stand up and double move when you should have
just been able to stand up.
You let him stand up the round he fell.
Oh, okay.
Good.
Good.
Good.
I just don't want to get an angry email from my mom.
Your mom is so intense about
Pathfinder rules. But she has a sweet spot for
climb rules. That's the thing that really gets her.
I don't know why she picked that one out.
It's Thune's turn. So she did her dissertation on
climbing and Pathfinder.
Thune is feeling
feeling pretty Thune-y here.
So he is going, now that giant has
not been hit. Obviously
you've told Thun to be careful,
but Thun is gonna Thun, and so
Thun moves up
around the pit. Oh my
God. And swings
at the fire giant with his plus one
greatsword, natural two.
And provokes in doing so.
Provokes from...
Unless he rolls acrobatics into the... Oh, yeah.
He's got good acrobatics. What is his acrobatics into the... Oh, yeah. He's got good acrobatics.
What is his acrobatics?
He's going to fail.
Yeah, the CMDs of these creatures are so high.
Oh, yeah.
No, that's not going to be good.
Fails.
Fails.
Well, thanks for killing Thune, Joe.
God damn it.
So, yeah, that's going to be a...
Oh, you know what?
Yeah, that's a hit.
Exactly.
Oh, one over the AC. So, he's going to be a Oh, you know what? Yeah, that's a hit Exactly One over the AC
So he's going to take 3d6
Come on
Plus 15 damage
Poor Thune
9, 10, 25 points of damage
To the Thune Master General
Okay
Thune is not
Not happy about that
But you know what? That's Thun.
It is the fire giant's turn now.
So fire giant's got Thun standing right there.
He sees the other two creatures have gone up to go after the guy.
This guy is actually going to...
He is going to withdraw from Thun.
What is this guy doing?
He's wily.
Yeah, he is going to double move and get right up behind Dalgrith and Metra.
That's why I was like, Baron has to kill him this round.
Because I'll be sandwiched.
In fact, let me just take it back.
Yeah, he can charge and attack...
Attack...
What's his name there?
Aren't I up a flight of steps?
Bloody Wolf.
Is that not a thing?
No, you are.
So he has to stay down below.
It's easier for him to get up there than it is Metra,
but you can just jump right up as well.
So he's going to get there.
He's within 10 feet, within his range.
He'll take one
attack charge.
26 to hit.
That is a hit.
Hits the Bloody Wolf
for 6, 7, 8, plus
15, 23 points
of damage.
And then the other one
That is a Bloody And then the other one... That is a
bloody wolf. The other
one sees multiple metras
and will also charge
up and attack
Dalgrith as well.
That is probably going to be a
missed...
Oh no, I'm sorry. That first one did not
hit. I'm sorry. It did? No,
I forgot about defensive training for giants. Okay, and so what did I roll? 26? 26, yeah, I'm sorry. That first one did not hit. I'm sorry. It did? No, I forgot about defensive training for Giants.
Okay, and so what did I roll, 26?
26, yeah.
I just rolled another 26, so both misses.
23 back.
Sorry about that.
No, that's fine.
Give yourself the HP back.
But now Metra and Dalgrith are surrounded, you know, flanked by these two Giants.
Not like a full flank, but they're on either side of you.
You have no way of getting out.
The good thing is
there are multiple metros there.
Dalgroth, it's your turn.
You're being threatened
by two fire giants.
Jimmer's in a pit
and Baron is...
Baron and Thun are over there
with Jimmer.
I am going to...
Shit, you're calling the wolf?
I'm going to...
That's all you had to say.
We got Harvey Keitel over here.
That's all you had to say.
Have you been waiting to make that reference?
I have, I have.
The whole episode?
I have.
I'm going to delay, and I'll explain why. Okay. In a minute. All right. I'm gonna delay
And I'll explain why
Okay
In a minute
Alright
I'm gonna delay
Oh boy
So painful
Joe delays
Does it have anything to do with
Baron's turn
Which is right
Now
Oh my god
No it has everything to do with
Metra's turn
But
Yeah Metra had something planned
Yeah so did I
Um
Metra fucked it up
But now it's Baron's turn Being charged out at by two separate fire giants has effectively fucked the plan.
I'm assuming so.
But I mean, my plan was pretty alright.
So was mine, but I have a new plan.
Baron will do the most tentative, terrifying five foot step over the corner of a pit and will move a little bit closer.
He didn't need to for range wise because now he is only
35 feet away
from the giant. These are facts.
And we'll take a full round
attack action against the giant
assailing his friend
Natty18 on the
day! Give it to me. Give me that
sweet damage. Give me that
sticky sweet goodness.
Oh, that's looking good, Troy.
Yeah.
We're talking about a 30-point damage beginning.
Good start.
Good start for Baron.
Second attack.
Missed fire.
19 on the die.
Critical threat.
Yeah.
Critical effing threat.
Roll the obvious confirm.
Critical threat.
Oh, maybe not
23 to confirm
Yeah, that's a confirmed
Critical threat
Confirmed crit
Are you a named character?
Yes
I have multiple names
Baron Ashbeak
Baron Redheart
Sheriff
Baron Redheart
Sheriff Baron Ashbeak
For every name
Multiple crit
Chris
Multiple crit situation
Joe, what does he got?
We got Gary from Dallas, Texas.
Oh, I know Gear Bear.
Gary, how are you doing, bud?
Is that Gear Bear?
Yeah.
Like Dr. Gear Bear?
Not doctor.
He acts.
He's a great guy.
Oh.
He plays a doctor.
Well, he writes in with a ranged crit.
Look out.
Your aim is so precise that the projectile flies through the head of your target
and ricochets off a nearby wall or object.
Double damage on the initial target, and the projectile strikes another 1d3 foes
within 15 feet for normal damage.
Whoa.
Is it within 15 feet, LaVarie?
It sure is.
It is.
Oh, wait.
It's 20 feet. Oh, no. Oh, because of the diagonies. 20 feet. It sure is. It is. Oh, wait. It's 20 feet.
Oh, no.
Oh, because of the
diagonals.
20 feet.
So close.
So unfortunately,
it hits both
Metro and Alvarez.
So it's quadruple.
Wait.
It's specified foes.
It did say foes.
Okay, good.
Well done, Gary.
All right.
So quad,
quad demo.
Quad demo.
This giant's dead zone.
Do you see those
boxcars, Troy,
to start it off with?
I need glasses
Alright
Who's talking?
104 points of damage
He is
Still alive
Wow
Get out of here
Yeah
Wow
But he just looks like
Oh what the fuck?
I just gave him the Joe Theismann.
His legs hanging by a thread.
Hanging by a thread.
Yeah, here we go.
Lawrence Taylor.
Third out of four attacks.
Lawrence Taylor made that tackle.
Another critical threat.
Oh, my God.
And now he's dead.
Oh, God.
Holy shit.
Wow.
Joe is so sad.
Joe, you delayed your action
now what do you
want to do
you're no longer
flanked because
one of the giants
is dead
I gotta tell you
I love these
GCP guys
your turn is done
oh he still has
another shot
I can't shoot
anything though
you can fire off
a Jimmer or a Thune
let him
let him like
talk about the
merchandise Troy
I was trying to
cut him off
until I realized
you were pushing
a sail
no you did good Grant I'm proud of you That's all right. No, you did good, Grant.
I'm proud of you and your amazing dice.
I can't believe you did 104 points of damage.
Joe, do you want to go now, or are you good?
No, I'm good.
Okay.
Metra, let's see what your big plan was.
Best laid plans.
Go out the window and there's a giant in your face.
Metra's going to delay unless the fire giant's going next.
God's sakes.
Okay.
I'm not Jimmer, but Joe was heavily waiting for you
to do something because he's lost without
you. Well, you're gonna delay unless
the fire giant's next. Is the fire giant next? No,
no, no. Okay.
Then I'm going to withdraw.
You're gonna full withdraw.
Yes.
That'll provoke once or none.
I'll roll acrobatics.
Oh.
To avoid.
Once or nonce, I said.
Once or nonce.
Okay.
Roll your acrobatics against the CMD of my character.
I mean, he rolls eight 19s in a row.
God damn it.
You probably got it.
This is a really rough day, man.
You're an acrobatic character.
32.
You're okay.
All right.
You're okay.
That's a natural two.
Yeah.
Only a natural one would have failed, I guess.
Oh.
So it's 31?
That's good to know.
Yeah, 31.
Good to know.
Write that down.
Yeah, I'll give it to you.
You've been fighting these guys for a while.
Still in your hands, a natural one is very inevitable.
All right, so you've moved in the initiative order
to right behind Baron.
It is Jimmer's turn.
Gonna keep climbing,
which I think he can still even double moving
with a successful climb check.
That is a 23 yeah uh so we can still only move 20 feet yeah but now you're you're one turn away from being out and as long as you don't fall
you'll be fine and it'd be very hard for you to fall with that strength that is what i wanted to
wait to see um okay i wanted to see if he got out. So Metro will act.
Okay, it's just you, mano
a mano, with a fire jack.
Yeah. Can I see any of Jimmer if he's
a move away from getting out?
From my elevated position, can I
see down into the hole? Roll a
perception check.
29.
Yeah, I'll say you can
see a little chunk of him.
A hand, a wrist.
A hand might be on the lip of the pit.
Yeah, he's a big boy.
Metro will use her shadow well ability once again.
Oh, there we go.
Nice.
Hell yeah.
Unfortunately, she is now in Jimmer's position.
Yeah, climbing. Yeah.
Climbing.
Yeah.
And you put Jimmer in the attack of the giant.
The giant's going to go.
That's fine.
That's fine.
That's fine.
And do you have to roll for that?
No.
So it's not a spell?
It's a... I will tell you...
So it's supernatural.
A bit of tie.
It's a spell-like ability.
So maybe I'll take a five-foot step first.
Okay. That's a spell-like ability. So maybe I'll take a five-foot step first.
Okay.
That's fine.
But that would put Jimmer five feet over.
Okay.
All right.
So, again, you use this very cool spell, but it puts you in kind of a dangerous position.
Very dangerous position.
Yeah.
You're a failed climb away from... And I'm terrible at climbing.
Yeah.
That's really bold.
I think it's so bold. Give her a grip point.
When we were talking about Baron's leadership, was that
two weeks ago or three weeks ago?
That was last week. We might have to talk
about a new leader with this type of
bold action. Grant, I'm just
spitballing here, but...
No, it's cool. I'd do stuff to help the party if I could do
anything other than shoot people and kill them.
That'd be great.
In one round.
Yeah.
It's Thun's turn, and Thun lends a hand down to Metra.
Oh, there we go.
Perhaps I can be of help, mother.
And you'll get a plus five to your climb check when you roll it.
And now it's the fire giant's turn.
And he is going to full attack
Jimmer with his
greatsword.
I don't think he's been hit
yet by an attack, this guy.
Hmm.
Actually.
Actually.
Actually.
He full withdraw
runs down the tunnel.
What?
No.
Runs away from Jimmer, and he was just far enough away from Jimmer to not provoke.
He bolts down the tunnel.
Wait, wait, wait.
Why wouldn't he provoke?
Jimmer has reach.
Jimmer has reach, but he was here.
He was just about to do a full... He was ten feet away.
Yeah, he was just about to do a full attack action on Jimmer.
Jimmer could do it to him.
Yeah, that's fair.
Okay, Jimmer, take your
attack of opportunity. I'll take my one
A-O-O.
That is a 32 to hit.
Oh yeah, that'll hit.
And that is 31 points of damage. Okay.
Joe, what are you thinking?
I was just going to say, I see what you were saying.
He could do it if he wasn't actually running.
If I wasn't running.
If he was just double moving.
Right, yeah, but no, I want to run to get a great distance.
Remember, you have to stay in a straight line.
So I don't know if that hull curves, but if it curves, he can't keep curving around.
Yeah, I thought about that as well.
That's what I was thinking.
Like, if I just double moved, I can avoid the attack of opportunity, but I wanted to get extra
distance. Alright, so that's what
that giant does. Seeing his companion fall,
he runs, and as he's
running, he's like,
yelling in giant that gets
muffled by the walls up ahead.
It's
Baron's turn. Baron,
you are over there near Metra and
Thu. I mean, I have such limited move action, and Metra already helped save my life,
so I'm going to take a five-foot step over, and to Metra's other hand,
I'm going to reach down and help pull her up.
So I don't know if that means we pull her up immediately, or if she gets...
I'm going to give her another plus five to her climb.
Perfect.
Yeah, you're both putting your arms down.
Is she able to grab them both with a plus ten? Soon and sheriff soon.
Or will she fall onto the spikes?
Let's find out.
It is Dalgrith's turn.
Dalgrith will bound
past Jimmer in the direction of the fire
giant that ran away. Okay.
And see what he can see down that long
corridor. We'll see how far
he went. Okay.
So you look up that corridor and you see about uh 55 feet
away uh the giant is at a wall that's about to start to turn so we went the full complement of
the run and now the corridor is turning uh up um but he's 55 feet away from you um he's gonna chase
him okay you've got the speed to get another 55 feet well you can get 50 feet but he's 55 feet away from you. He's going to chase him.
Okay.
You've got the speed to get another 55 feet?
Well, he can get 50 feet, but he'll go like 40 feet.
Okay.
Just to kind of keep him close,
but not in instant full attack action distance.
Okay.
So you're 15 feet away from him.
20 feet away from him. 20 feet away from him,
but another 30 or so feet off the map, we'll say.
Yeah.
Okay.
And now, Metro, I need you to roll a clutch.
You're getting a plus 10 from that.
My climb is a minus 2.
So you're getting an effective plus 8.
You need to roll DC 20.
Now, you only fall if you roll 15 or lower.
You're getting a plus 8 to this
roll. Just roll a 7 or above.
Natty 19. Yeah!
You let go
and grab on to Thune and Baron
and you lift it up.
Absolutely huge and
enormous and I can picture it in my head
and it's really cool.
We'll say that's your turn
jimmer you saw this thing turn tail wolf dalgrif just bounded past you yeah he sees like he's
frustrated like he just used this item uh he got fell into a trap he like feels pretty useless he
get to get that one good hit in he's like an angry drunk yeah. Yeah, he's drunk now too. He just drank like a giant
like a horn full of mead
and he turns back to
Metra Baron and Thune and says
Frodo!
And he just like double moves
around the corner and starts
booking it towards
Dalgrith. Wolf Dalgrith.
Alright, so you see Dalgrith about
20 feet ahead of you and then 20 feet ahead of Dalgrith. Wolf Dalgrith. All right, so you see Dalgrith about 20 feet ahead of you,
and then 20 feet ahead of Dalgrith is the fire giant.
And since you have 60 feet of darkvision, you see both of them.
Yeah.
There's 20 feet separating each of you.
And now it is Thun's turn.
Thun has pulled you up, Metra, and looks at you and Baron is like,
what should we do?
It seems as if one has been vanquished
and the other has ran.
Follow Jimmer.
All right, mother.
It's getting weird.
So weird.
All right, so Thun's able to get up onto that platform
where the fire giants were initially,
but he's still, now he's about 25 feet behind Jimmer,
so there's this weird spacing between all of the characters.
It is the fire giant's turn,
so Dalgrith, you see he's reached the end of this thing.
It looks like it's turning straight up,
and he just books it straight up
and is now out of your sight until you get to the...
Wait, is there a slight turn?
You said he stopped at a wall.
So is there a turn?
It's like one of these.
He ran up into an L, and now he's turning going this way.
Like it was a straight shot to this wall, and now it's a straight shot up.
Make sense?
Yeah.
What don't you like about it?
Nothing.
It's just like he's going to outpace me because he can run, and I can't because of the mechanics of the game.
Right.
That's bullshit. Nothing.
Nothing's wrong.
You just don't care for it. I just don't care for the way this all worked out. No, but like in a real life
chase, you would like run full speed
of that wall and like kick off the side
and like keep your momentum. As a wolf, jump down
off the wall. Awesome. You know, if you weren't
covered in blood, you'd probably be
able to run a lot faster. That's true. If I wasn't a dead wolf.
If I wasn't alive, well, I'd be right on his heels.
This may change your
strategy. You have some time to think, because it is
Baron's turn before yours.
Baron, you told Thune to get
that way. What do you want to do?
Baron is so slow on his little
dwarven legs, and without the ability
to turn into a giant bloody wolf,
Baron's going to use the
command word to say,
Broom!
To me.
Bear bear.
Okay.
And then, I guess, move action, get on it?
Like, is that what I do?
Okay.
Or is it on it?
You can just call the broom from anywhere, you think?
Yes, within 300 feet.
All right, yeah.
You're good.
So the broom comes to you, and then we'll say, yeah, move action.
You're able to.
300 yards, yeah. 900 feet. Okay. You're able to. 300 yards.
Yeah, 900 feet.
Okay.
You're fine.
This is not three football fields.
So can I move?
Am I on it at that point?
I'll say you're on it.
That'll be the end of your turn. So I'm going to move 40 feet.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, yeah.
I'll move next time.
Calling it and getting on it is the full complement of your turn.
Dalgrith, you see him turn at this wall and take off.
You obviously don't.
I've told you that it's straight, but you don't know
the situation. What do you want to do?
He'll run up to the wall.
All right, so you run up to the wall. And turn and look
after where the guy went, where the giant
went. All right, so imagine this is all happening
in like six second increments,
you know, and this is all happening kind
of in that same six seconds. So as
he gets to that wall and you come
up from behind him, he then turns and takes off.
You get to the wall and you just see his footsteps disappear into the darkness up ahead.
Hmm.
Uh.
As the tunnel looks like it's just a straight shot from here on out.
Um.
Okay.
Uh.
He'll, uh, he'll keep pursuing.
He'll do another 50 feet. Okay. He'll keep pursuing. He'll do another 50 feet and see if he can see him 60 feet away at the end of that movement.
Okay, so you go another 50 feet or so, and you see that you reach another turn here,
and you see him standing there, and it splits off in two directions from there,
to the right and to the left, but he's reached a point where he has to make a turn,
so he's run as far as he can run, and now you're 20 feet behind him.
Great.
Well, actually, can you turn on your run?
Yeah, but no.
No, because you had to run to the wall.
I'm not 20 feet behind him.
Yeah, no, at this point you're a lot farther behind him.
Well, not a lot farther.
My speed is way higher than his.
Right, okay.
So what's his speed?
Is he moving 80 feet and around? Well, it's four times, right? is way higher than his. Right. Okay. So what's his speed? Is he moving 80 feet in a round?
Well, it's four times, right?
Yeah.
So isn't his speed 20 feet?
No, 30.
30.
So he can move 120 feet.
And I can move 100 feet in a double move.
Okay.
So in your double move, you're still 20 feet behind him.
Okay.
And you see that he's reached another end of the wall.
Great.
So I'm stopping.
You're way ahead of everybody else now.
So I'm stopping there, and I want to see which way he goes.
Okay.
This is interesting. Metra, it is your turn.
This is tricky.
Metra
will double move
to get right up next to Thun.
Okay, that's smart.
Stay back there for now. Well, that's as far as
she can go. And anything she
can do to help increase their speed, she needs to be nearby.
Okay, Fire Giant's turn.
Dalgrith, you are the only one that sees him at this point.
You are now 140 feet away from Jimmer and 20 feet away from the Giant
and about 155 feet away from
Thun and Metra.
And you see him
I gotta look at, I got so many
maps here. I'm looking at like the greater map
of these tunnels now.
You see him
Hmm. It's interesting the way the
cavern turns here. I'm gonna need you to hit a
perception check to be able to tell which way he goes.
I'll let you roll survival, which I'm sure you have a good survival if you don't hit the perception check.
But will you find out right now, does he go to the left or does he go to the right?
I'm on with this.
30.
30.
Okay.
He goes to the left.
Okay.
All right.
So he kind of does.
Now, because of the way the caverns are turning, he can't run.
So he just double moves 60 feet and gets into the next tunnel to the left.
Okay.
You dig?
I dig.
Are we good here?
Did everybody go?
I have no idea.
Wait, Jimmer hasn't gone in a while.
Yeah, I think I skipped Jimmer on the way to Thune. So, Jimmer, going back to you, you saw Dalgrith take off at great speed.
Are you going to give chase?
Yeah, I probably lost sight of him, but I'm going to hammer my feet on the ground,
trying to go after him, and I'm going to try to spot him.
All right, so you double move.
You get to that first wall where the giant
turned and you're able
to go a little bit
farther ahead.
And with your 60 feet
of dark vision you see
Wolf Dalgrith up ahead.
You don't see the fire
giant.
Yeah like stop at a
skid in my greaves and
my boot my boots and
like start turn turn
real quick and just
start charging up the
the corridor again.
This is crazy.
It's like I need to chase mechanics.
Yeah, yeah. I think we're holding our
own here, though. Baron, it is your turn.
Alright, so Baron, with the
aid of the broom, can get around the
corner and directly to the edge of the
wall where Jimmer was standing
before he disappeared down
the other hallways. So that is
an 80-foot move, flying
on the broom, wind
lashing through his beautiful
hair.
So look at the map here. So this is
the tunnel that you guys went through. This is
where the turn was and then it was a straight
shot and now it goes up to the left and
to the right. This fire giant is right
here in the left
fork. The left fork. Dalgrith
is here. Right at the fork.
You know, Jimmer's here.
And the rest of you are way back.
Down the tunnel.
Way back here, making your way to that first point where he turned to go north.
Really, really interesting.
But Dalgrith, you're right on his heels, and it is your turn.
I mean, I'll tell you what I want to do.
You're a wolf.
You should trip him.
Because he couldn't run around
the corners you do have the ability to get right up to him right now right speed so what i want to
do is run right up to him well there's two things i want to do the first thing i want to do is run
right up to him like morph out of wolf and jump onto him. That's my turn.
That's awesome.
Pat at him and in the air he becomes Dalgrith again and then tries to latch on.
That's so cool.
That's so manable.
Give me, this is the checks I want you to do.
I want you the acrobatics to avoid the attack
of opportunity, which we now know
you just have to roll higher than a one
and then the climb check to get on him.
Okay.
This is amazing.
37.
This feels like a comic book.
37.
You had the good roll on the acrobatics.
And then I'll do the climb.
It is a 40.
All right, so he just morphs and then latches onto him.
You're not going anywhere.
Where do you think you're going?
Where do you think you're going?
And that is your turn.
Yes. Okay, it is Metra's turn.
Metra, you have no idea what's going on.
You see darkness up ahead. You're standing next to Thun.
What do you do? Is Jimmer where Jimmer is
on the map? No, Jimmer is
down... Around the corner and like
down the hallway, but just right
before the fork that like goes
left and right. You have longer darkvision than most people, so you see that that tunnel ends up ahead and turns.
You saw Jimmer skid to a stop and then turn to the left and go straight up.
If I were to move 30 feet, would I be within 30 feet of Jimmer?
No.
Okay.
Then Metro will cast Haste.
It will just affect me, Thun, and Baron.
Okay.
And then she will take her 60 feet of movement as far as that will take her.
Okay, okay.
You get that bonus movement now with Haste.
Yeah.
Okay, and now it is Jimmer's turn in the real round order.
Come on, Jimmer!
And he's going to double move.
I've got a live one!
Well, he's going to single move and see if he can see the giant.
And then he's just going to keep moving.
You single move up ahead and you get to the point where the giant had to decide to go left or right.
And he went left.
So you feel like with a double move, you can get within one move of where Dalgrith and the giant is.
That's what he's going to do.
He double moves and gets within one move.
Follow me, y'all!
Of Dalgrith and the giant.
This is so badass.
It's Thune's move.
Thune is hasted, so Thune will just run up to Metra.
Metra, what is your speed?
Well, my speed is 30 feet, but I can move 60, right?
With haste?
It's double, yeah, right?
Do you get an extra 30?
You get double move or you get an extra 20 feet?
30 feet maximum twice the movement.
Okay.
So 60. Yeah, the reason I'm... 20 feet. 30 feet maximum twice the movement. Okay. So 60.
Yeah, the reason I'm...
Increase by 30 feet.
Okay, great.
Thun has a speed of 30, so he's right next to you.
He can get beyond me because I only moved once.
Oh, okay.
Because I had to cast.
He doesn't want to get beyond you.
He wants to stay right next to Mother.
I bet he does.
So Thun, just 60 feet's up to you.
Go on.
Go on.
No, we must protect each other.
I am learning.
And it is the Fire Giant's turn, so you're on him now.
What if he wants to move while you're on him?
I don't see any reason why he couldn't.
Okay, there's nothing within the vexing dodger you read about?
No, no, there's nothing in the mechanics that make his moves more difficult.
But does that provoke from you, like if he just keeps running?
That's a good question.
Yeah, I mean, I think it should, but I also don't have a weapon out right now,
so it wouldn't this turn.
Oh, because you were a wolf.
Yeah, because I was a wolf, and I just leapt onto it.
I mean, whatever, I don't know.
I feel like I had my weapon out and then became a wolf, but like...
Well, you didn't sheathe your weapon.
I know, I know.
That's just tough.
I think it's safer to say that...
It would be cool if like the dagger you were holding
turned into one of the wolf's claws.
Like...
It would be cool.
That would be cool.
But you can't...
Like as a wolf, you couldn't hold it in your paw anyway.
So either it's like it falls out and you leave it behind
or like it morphs into your body.
No, I know.
You can't carry a weapon anyway.
I'm playing it as awful for me as possible.
What else is there?
It's my favorite way to play.
Well, he moves forward.
Damn it.
You're on his body.
You have a week now between this week and the next
to figure out,
can a vexing dodger get an attack of opportunity
when he's climbing, basically, effectively climbing? You dodger get an attack of opportunity when he's climbing, basically
effectively climbing? You don't get an
attack of opportunity when you're climbing. Why would you get one
when you're climbing on a giant? But again,
I don't know the vexing dodger. That's on you.
You've got a week. Look it up.
You provoke an attack of opportunity when you move
out of a threatened square, right?
You're taking the threatened square with you.
It's odd.
Yeah, vexing dodger needs some extra work.
But he is moving with you, double moving,
onto the next map.
Oh, come on!
Let me show you, said Matt.
Shiver!
Oh, no!
Well, now you're in charge territory.
Yeah, for sure.
It should be good.
It should be.
So, he pulls you into the next room,
and you see that this next cavern looks long,
and it looks like it has multiple successive elevated tiers.
You see up ahead there's a set of giant-sized stairs leading to the next level,
and it's topped by a low iron gate.
From your vantage point, looking up past this first wall,
which is sloped at a weird angle, about ten feet high,
it's hard to tell how long the cavern, or how deep the cavern is,
but there appears to be multiple levels like this,
with stairs and an iron gate, stairs and an iron gate,
a sloping face at each one, ten feet up, ten feet up, ten feet up, but you can't tell how long the corridor is.
And the sloping face of each rise, certainly the one in front of you that you have a very clear view of,
is carved with representations of, like, diabolical armored giants stomping, choking, and cleaving to death.
Lesser creatures.
Wow.
Beautifully carved here.
Lesser creatures.
Lesser creatures.
He just, he drags you into this room
and yells out in giant,
up into the long cavern up ahead.
Do you speak giant giant Dalgrith?
Yes, I do.
He just yells, they're coming!
Here we are!
And we'll see you next week.
Oh, fuck!
Kill this guy!
Go down!
