Oh my God, we're gonna die.
Maybe even more precarious.
It begins.
Okay.
Okay, I'm shaking.
I'm shaking.
And any tactical error.
This is absolute insanity.
That's insane.
Insanity.
Will be most costly.

I can't wait to get to it.
But right now, let's get back to work.
Let's get down to business.
Let's get to the episode.
Please enjoy episode 231.
I don't know about you guys, but I am pretty fired up for this episode. Well, I am iced down yeah because i'm very afraid of what's going to happen here yeah it's not a great situation it's not a great situation uh i don't
even want to play the game how about that yeah it's it would be a lot easier if you didn't have
any attachment to your characters.
If you're just like, let's just see what happens.
Let's fight it out.
If this was checkers, I don't have any emotional attachment to any of the individual pieces on a checkers board.
I can lose one.
It's like, oh, whatever.
Or even a video game that you save it before you walked into this room.
Then it's real fun.
Let's just see what happens.
Oh, boy.
I was like, oh, that was horrible.
But that's exactly...
All right.
Go back to the quicksave.
The fact that we can't go back to a save
is exactly why I like this game.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's true.
You would.
It's why I've become converted.
It's your fault.
I know.
I know.
It's a much better game.
It's far superior.
Although Dalgrith made it impossible
for you to go back to your save
because he ran from the bonfire
straight into the boss...
Straight through the mist.
Right.
Straight through the mist. Not, straight through the mist.
Not waiting for anybody.
Didn't pick up his souls.
I'm just, overall, I think I'm just frustrated
that there's all of these extra added elements to the fight.
I just want more, just like,
give me standard fire giant encounters,
one after another, and I'll be happy.
You have to throw in an iron.
You were just complaining about that last episode.
Wait, what? You need a pair of lips on both sides of your cheek because you talk out of both sides of your
mouth you know you guys were kind of going after each other at the end of the episode by you guys
i mean you and matthew you want to air it out here uh live do you remember what you were arguing
about yes you were mad at matthew i wasn't no i wasn't i wasn't i was mad
at well you hit him you hit him in the face with your fist i remember that i was mad later he still
has a bruise that's the thing is like when people think my wife abused me i was speaking of ice
down i was going to get you some oh thanks yes it still hurts this is the thing when you start
arguing with matthew generally you're not arguing because matthew is doing something wrong but
during an argument matth Matthew is infuriating.
And so, just by the end of it,
you want to punch him in the face.
There's no winning an argument with Matthew.
No, all I said was... There is convincing
Matthew if you're right.
I've never seen that. It's a battle of attrition.
It is a battle of attrition every time you have
an argument with Matthew. Actually, Troy,
of all the people at this table, you're most likely to win
an argument with me because you're the same way. just get exhausted and i'm just like okay whatever you
want as my wife says and my wife and joe will have a good laugh about this when i'm in the room it's
like the in order to convince me to do something you have to convince me it's my idea yeah oh it's
the only way do you know how i talk it's the only way when i have to describe whenever i
literally send him like artwork and stuff I'll be like
How about this garbage
And then he's like
Well let's take a little
Look at it
If I say I like something
He's like this is terrible
This is awful
The way I describe it
It's like being
Smee to Troy's Captain Hook
So occasionally
You're like
Hey can we do this
And usually you react
With such viciousness
About how stupid
The idea is
And then like
Three days later
You get like
You know what
What if we did this
really the only way but back to your stubbornness uh yeah so i got frustrated when we went off air
because correct me if i'm wrong but you uh quick action made thun vanish yeah and then
dimension door dust behind the the lieutenant yes and of all the
iterations of things that we talked about in that episode i just can't i was surprised we didn't talk
about vanishing dalgrith we did and then well we talked no we didn't we talked it was brief it was
brief basically i said i over i overruled it because i didn't want you to die which is my
reasoning right and then your argument was that he would be dead my argument was that he wouldn't
and then you said but troy will argument was he already then your argument was that he would be dead. My argument was that he wouldn't. And then you said, but Troy,
my argument was he already is.
Your argument was Troy.
We'll just come after you anyway,
even if you're invisible at 50% mischance.
And that's where I jumped in.
I said,
Hey,
Hey,
Hey,
maybe.
Yeah.
And I thought he wouldn't.
I thought he would say he doesn't see us unless they have either seen visibility or the rhinoceros has sent.
We,
yeah,
we don't know what the rhinoceros can do because we all failed our knowledge checks and we have this captain.
We don't know what he can do either
We know he's better
Than the other ones
And we all know
These are fire giants
Who can see in the dark
So there's already
Something else going on
Right
And also Troy has a tendency
To if you say you're invisible
And you don't move
Then he's like
Well I'll just take a swing
Where you were
Yeah
I kind of like the way
We did it last week
When you called me on
Not being able to see
Because it was beyond
The limits of my dark vision
I was like I'm going to roll a D8.
If I roll a seven or an eight, it'll hit.
Because at a certain point...
Technically, you should have rolled perception.
Because me just...
Yeah, yeah.
If it's second edition,
it's perception against stealth.
I've already got a headache just thinking about it.
But with this...
It's in first edition, too.
You roll a perception check.
Against the stealth check of the...
Yeah, they're opposing checks in first edition.
But you're not stealthing.
You're just in the dark beyond their vision. You what i mean it's perception against like a soft stealth
i mean you you would set the dc to set to see if like you can hear them in the dark yeah i guess i
kind of like the idea of like just it's completely eschewing that it's rolling a d8 and being like
oh that's a very small chance that i can see oh it did hit um but i get it i guess a perception
check but i'm making up the dc on the. Why not just make up the change the die?
I'm going to roll a very low percentage.
Oh, okay.
I rolled a one there.
Yeah, but the die that you're rolling is not perception, though, a chance of it.
The die that you're rolling, then, is the random chance that the giant decides to attack an empty square.
Right.
As opposed to deciding that he's gone.
Yeah, I was...
And then moving to attack the people behind.
I was thinking
it more times he's throwing a rock down there if i roll a seven or eight it hits his spot it's a
big rock sure i mean it's taking up otherwise it just flies overhead but i don't know i'm sure
there's a better way to do it i'm sorry i think we're talking about two different things i was
fine with that i'm talking about the invisibility if dogwraith disappeared in front of you and
everybody else disappeared yes that's perception door at the same time. Of course. I would think you would assume Dahlgrith was gone, not standing there invisible.
I guess we'll never know.
But maybe you roll a...
Because Thun is the one banished.
Yeah, no.
So that's what I'm interested to see.
If Thun...
They just move up and kill Thun.
Feasibly.
I mean, Thun is in danger, too.
But you were so hurt.
Even with Baron's healing.
If one of those giants hit you, you could get one shot.
I understand. But I just thought that it was a more feasible way to get all of us out. like you could if one of those giants hit you could get you could get one shot i understand
but i just thought that it was a more feasible way to get all of us out like even if dogger
died he died but at least everybody else teleported out right now we're all still in here and i'm very
uncomfortable with that especially since i don't know if you recall this from the end of last
week's episode there's more people in here there's no reason we can't teleport out can you two get a
room god damn it just shut up a week later well you know what i said was uh wait i don't i can't remember how we worded it but we were
joking it's something along the lines of like we no longer want to be in this room invisible
like it's just like we have to get out of here it's a it's an awful situation i think we can
change i think i think moving here i mean leaving food behind is is definitely a blow but moving
you're changing up the tactics i think we can maybe hold her on for a little bit.
Grant and I were talking about this.
We went to go get a coffee after last week's episode.
We were riding the elevator back up to there.
And you, Grant, said we could just leave Thune.
I'm like, at a certain point, that's an evil action.
Yeah, yeah.
And we were talking about your alignment.
I was just asking more specifically about Metra's alignment at that point.
Right, right.
And again, I don't necessarily want to leave Thun.
I was just trying to figure out, because Metra kind of seems, at times, calculating and cold-hearted.
I'm chaotic neutral.
Yeah.
A chaotic neutral would leave room for an evil act, potentially, right?
But also, Metra has an attachment to Thun.
Okay.
Metra's going to do whatever is best for Metra.
No, I think Metra cares, but her chaotic neutral doesn't just affect herself
sure she cares about other people well she hears a lot about self-interest is evil yeah yeah i mean
i mean one of the reasons i took that action and left through now is so i could get jimmer out of
being grappled by a huge rhinoceros that's true i'm gonna lift the veil here in a way that i don't
know if i've lifted it on this show in a long time slash ever.
We don't want to see that.
Ooh, you shaved your leg.
I did.
I'm wearing a veil.
That is a lovely bridal veil that you're wearing, Joe.
Wow.
I didn't say anything.
Over my legs. Dun, dun, dun, dun.
This is a major turning point in the book, this room.
Okay?
If you're of the camp,
I'm tired of all the fire giant fights.
Shut up, Joe.
This is part of the campaign.
And my job as GM,
and the job that I choose to do,
is staying true to the adventures written.
When I'm writing my own adventure,
or doing a homebrew,
or changing things so drastically
that it becomes something in the middle between what is written
and what's in my mind, then okay.
But for right now, I'm trying to do justice to the adventure that was written.
However, this is a turning point in the adventure.
If you are able to survive this room, you level up.
Whoa. Whoa.
Wow.
If you don't survive the room...
You mean survive the room and kill everything?
Yes.
Those are two vastly different things.
Sorry, let me rephrase.
If you win this fight by killing all of them,
there's enough XP on the table
for you to level up.
It will even put Thun
Closer to his next level
That's how much XP we're looking at
We won't level him up but he'll get him pretty close
Do you know what happens for a sorcerer at 14th level?
Remember the last 14th level?
How many 14th level characters
Have you even played in your life?
Zero for Matthew
Joe? Two?
One but it was fake
What level were we in, Rainlords?
I think you just got to 14.
Okay, number two.
The campaign that we had, we were 15 at the end, but he pushed us into higher levels right at the end.
Oh, sure.
So Jade Regent, we're not even that high.
No.
No.
We were 12th at Jade Regent.
Yeah, I think we finished Jade Regent very close to, because we're in book five.
Yeah, something like that.
Close to a... I think we're 13,
but whatever. Yeah, possibly. So this is big.
This is big for all of us.
That's all I'm saying. That's all I'm saying.
If you like turning points and leveling up,
then maybe you won't play like cowards.
Oh, man.
This is off dead all over again.
I won't entertain coward talk
here. I think it's just so tactically
smart to assess everything here and then just come back.
I think you should.
I'm not going to let you take turns as long as Matthew did last week.
I'm not going to allow that.
You had a long time.
I did.
Let me go for a while.
It's a fine line between letting you talk it out, which I think is interesting, both
the people at the table and the people listening, and being like, all right, let's get on with
it, Matthew.
Joe is the type that's like, five, four, three, two two go i like fun conversation but when yeah when it gets too tactical i mean if
you're looking up rules you know what i mean that's a totally different thing we were i mean
most of it we were reading shadow walk or planar shift whatever it was they were reading those
things that's important to know because your character would already know that you know
you've teleported behind the uh i'm just gonna tell you he's a
captain you fought oh that's so funny i was gonna call him captain this one's a captain uh we
mentioned his beautiful red cape i'm wondering if i was using the captain pawn for the lieutenant
pawns um and that's why you were like not that excited it's possible but anyways that's why you were like, not that excited. It's possible. But anyways, that's a captain.
You teleport behind him.
You left a room with three fire giants and a huge 18 foot long, 12 foot tall iron rhinoceros with chains dangling from its body and fire glowing inside of it.
You also left an invisible Thun.
Metro with her dark vision.
Now, remember, not all of you can see.
You can only see half as far as what I've revealed.
So keep yourselves honest.
You're up on the second tier here.
Metro can see a whole third tier and then the beginnings of a fourth tier.
And out of the darkness from that fourth tier
emerges a captain and two lieutenants.
Wait, which are the lieutenants?
You've been using the captain pawn for the lieutenants.
I have been, yeah.
That's why I was like, this is the same.
Those lieutenants are terrifying.
The lieutenants look cool.
Now I've made the lieutenants look cooler than the captain.
Had you just been looking at these loos the whole time, the captain would have blown you away.
See, no cape.
No cape.
No cape.
No helmet either. Yeah, they don't need helmets. Anyways, captain would have blown you away. See, no cape. No cape. No cape. No helmet either.
Yeah, they don't need helmets. Anyways,
captain and two lieutenants
come out of the darkness. Can we total it up
here? Yeah, one, two, three, four,
five, six, seven fire giants
and an iron rhinoceros. Three regular,
two captains, two lieutenants,
and an iron rhinoceros. I'm starting to think
we're at a disadvantage here. Yeah.
But hey, you already killed the one
from the previous encounter.
Yeah.
We haven't touched anything
from this encounter.
Huge, huge encounter.
We've done enough bullshitting.
Let's jump right in.
Jimmer, you are up.
Okay.
Jimmer,
has appeared
further into the room.
He can see deeper in.
I think he's still
with his 60 feet dark face,
and he can't see these other fire giants at the far end.
Metra would have warned once she saw them.
Yeah.
We ended the episode with that.
There's nothing up there.
Don't worry.
But he does see this other fire giant captain on the stairs now behind him,
so he moves back, immediately shifts, and does an about face.
Going toe-to-toe with a giant we haven't seen in combat yet!
With the captain.
Titans clashing on the battlefield.
Yeah, with his giant frame, and he swings down, and that is a 33.
But with the higher ground bonus, that is a 34. That is a 33. But with the higher ground bonus, that is a 34.
That is a hit.
And now you guys wouldn't get the higher ground bonus because of the way the room is sloped.
But because he's giant as well, he gets it.
That is a hit.
Okay.
That is 30 points of damage.
Good start.
You guys will be fine.
I'm so scared.
Start.
You guys will be fine.
I'm so scared.
Now, remember, Jimmer, where he's large, he's able to stay far enough away to not have to provoke.
But if you guys wanted to get up, you're going to provoke moving from ten to five.
Moving right along, it is the iron rhinoceros' turn.
He's going to move.
Obviously, he can't charge because there's a fire giant there, so he is going to tactically move around to try and get closer to where you guys have gone.
The captain is barking out orders.
He's going to move 65 feet around the fire giant that was blocking his ability to just charge right back up at you guys.
Move around 65 feet to be right next to the captain,
but that will start going into double move territory,
so he's not able to take another action.
So that's the Iron Rhino's turn,
giving you guys a little tiny glimpse of hope here.
It's Thune's turn.
Now, Metro, you made Thune invisible.
Thune is just going to double move With haste
Is going to give him
What did we say last week?
60 feet
60 feet total
Wait
If a double move
120
120
Alright so Thun is
Oh boy
Man
Say yourself Thun
Yeah seriously
Now Thun is going to
Thun is going to move
To the right of the stairs
like right
near the captain and the rhino
but not just kind of
he doesn't really know what to do here he's not going to
you know attack three fire
giants and become visible all of a sudden
so he's going to kind of bide his time
and see
how this all pans out if he has a good moment
to strike he'll do so,
but this is going to be weird the way it's all set up.
It is, all right, that fire giant,
who we used to call fire giant number one, is dead.
It's the captain's turn.
The captain that is standing right in front of Jimmer.
I think we're going to do a full attack here.
Do we want to put power attack on?
Yeah, let's go ahead and put power attack on.
Full attack against Jimmer.
I'm sick to my stomach.
Big old long sword.
First attack.
Ooh, that was sitting on the nat 20, but it's still 44 to hit.
Yeah, that's it.
All right, so first hits Jimmer for 35 points of damage.
Second attack, 28.
It's a miss.
28 and miss.
Third attack at the lowest possible bonus, also a miss.
So one big hit.
Yeah, got lucky.
Second one might have hit had I not put Power Attack on.
But, yeah, all right. So that is his turn.
I'm at less than half HP.
Oh, God.
Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo.
Lieutenant's turn.
Lieutenant's going to start moving down.
They're going to both double move.
Oh, boy.
Yeah, actually, I think... I don't think we have any choice.
We have no chance.
We have to run.
Like, if we were coming in at full strength, this would still be hard.
But after aggroing all these guys to the north, there's just no way.
This is the Leroy Jenkins move.
Matthew is now officially Leroy Jenkins.
I mean, we didn't know about the guys to the north.
Well, one would be.
And I sort of started it by jumping on that guy and being carried into the room.
But you know what?
Actually, that guy would have ran in there anyway and said, we're right back there.
So they might have emptied out into us.
But fighting them in the hallway would be better, especially with the rhinoceros.
They would all be bottlenecked.
Lieutenants double move down there now, standing at the top of the steps that lead from the second tier, which you guys are on, to the third tier.
They're on the third tier.
And then the captain just kind of slowly moves up behind them.
So they're in a perfect triangle approaching you with all haste.
Now it's those fire giants' turn.
And they're in a tough situation here.
They are actually bottlenecked.
They can't see Thun.
If it weren't for those lieutenants, we'd be in a much better tactical position.
Yes.
Luckily, like I said, each level is 10 feet high,
so that allows them to see up and uselessly throw rocks that aren't going to hit.
So they're all going to kind of move up
because they can't get up
the steps with the fire giant and the rhino there
without provoking.
Actually, I wonder
if one of them could move
past the rhino and provoke from Jimmer.
No, because it can't
occupy the same space, so it's going to take
them at least two rounds to get up there.
So they're going to all single move and each throw a rock,
which, again, I think has to be a natural 20 to hit.
Let's do one at Metra.
That's going to be a 21 to hit.
Miss.
Beautiful.
One at Baron, which 23.
Miss.
Yeah.
And then the other one, the one here on the right is going to throw a Jimmer, actually.
23.
It's a miss.
23, yeah.
Miss, miss, miss.
Okay.
Whew.
You should see my initiative tracker.
Oh, man.
It is Baron's turn.
I mean, a good round out of Baron could change your thoughts on this whole thing.
Baron, you want to run up and take on the lieutenants and the captain by yourself?
Baron is going to take a five-foot step correctly towards Dalgrith.
Thun, stay alive no matter what happens,
and he is going to rapid shot attack the lieutenant and hopefully bring him down.
You mean the captain?
Sorry, the pawns were wrong before.
Careful, you can get an A-0-0 from there.
Oh, I would?
Yeah, the goddamn chains.
All right, well, I'll stay where I am because I think I have a good shot from there.
I don't know what you want to give him.
It's going to give it some bonus to its AC, but you're still shooting against touch.
All right, here we go.
I wouldn't be too worried unless you misfire.
Let's see if I can avoid misfiring on five rolls.
Oh, my God.
You got five rolls?
Yeah, I do.
Oh, because you're hasty.
Here we go.
The first one is a 21 to hit.
That's a hit.
It begins.
Okay.
Okay.
Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
I'm shaking.
I'm shaking.
Oh, my God.
Get so much damage, dude.
You know, you think about it.
Like, there's a lot of times when I, myself, would be the biggest one.
It's like, oh, Baron, gunslinger's overpowered.
This is where you need it.
You need it, and it balances things out.
I don't understand how you could possibly play this without a gunslinger.
28 points of damage on the first attack.
You're shooting through Dalgrith and Jimmer, so it's still a tough shot, but they're big, big targets.
I'm going to get up close and deadly on this next one.
Use up some grit, so I'm going to increase my damage die on this one.
If I hit 17 on the die
i'm so nervous every shot his hands are shaking as he goes this time i'm not moving
34 points of damage on that attack okay and you crit 19 to 20 correct what do you misfire on uh
one to three one to three so you have a higher chance of misfiring than you do crit.
Please roll ahead.
Eight on the die.
25 to hit.
Yeah, there we go.
Okay, all right.
Up close and deadly again.
Chop down that big tree.
Get him, dude.
33 points of damage on the third shot.
34 followed by a 33.
Up close and deadly again.
Still looks pretty hardy up there. This is the fourth shot, correct? Yep. Yep. Okay followed by a 33. Up close and deadly again. Still looks pretty hardy up there.
This is the fourth shot, correct?
Yep.
Yep.
Okay, 20 to hit.
Yes.
Okay.
I'm shaking.
Oh, my God.
I've never been so nervous in my life.
31 points of damage on that attack.
Okay.
And the final attack at a plus seven.
Looks like somebody wants to level up.
At a plus seven.
12 to hit.
Twelve is a miss.
Okay.
Wow.
I think that is your first miss on a giant in the history of this AP.
That wasn't a miss.
That wasn't a miss.
I'm serious.
I think it might be.
Really good round.
Just peppering him.
No armor is going to stop a bullet.
And it is Dalgrith's turn.
Dwarf followed by dwarf.
What do you want to do?
You are...
Oh, I missed on the last one.
You still take half the miss.
Oh, that's right.
A little graze damage.
You take three points of grazing damage.
All right.
All right.
All right, Dalgrith.
What do you want to do?
You know that you're within chain's length of this.
You're 5, 10, 15, 20 feet away.
Dalgrith is going to take a 5 foot step
out of that range
and drink a potion
of Cure Serious Wounds.
Yeah, now's the time.
If you're going to
get into this battle,
you're going to need
all the HP
you can muster up.
You pulled that out
last week, right?
Yeah.
And now you're going
to take the 5 foot step
and then drink it.
How much HP
did you get back?
17.
17.
All right.
It's going to be
Metra's turn.
Jimmer, you're on deck.
Did you roll D6s?
Yeah, it's D8s, bud.
Oh, shit!
No, no, D6s.
Watch it be lower.
I think it's D4s now.
First edition.
I lost my D8.
Sorry.
Don't touch my...
Oh, God.
I got a bunch of...
No, he touched your D8!
All right.
Oh!
Ooh, wow.
That's 24.
Nice.
All right.
Huge difference.
Metra, you've been hasted along with Baron and Thune for a couple weeks now.
What is the duration?
Does it last three weeks?
Is it 13 or does it top out?
No, it's one round.
I don't think it tops out.
I think it's one round per level.
Yeah, one round per level.
Okay.
I lost track of the rounds, but I think you're still fine.
Actually, I know you're still fine.
So go ahead.
Does Jim react after me?
He does.
I do.
Metra's going to delay.
Metra delays.
Vanilla Industries!
Jimmer, you are up.
You know Baron, soften this captain up.
Okay.
Jimmer, swing, has Terminus S,
catches a gleam of torchlight, perhaps, on its blade and starts swinging.
Come on, baby.
Natural 17.
Yes!
Get it!
Baby, roll to confirm.
Critical!
Critical!
That is a 35 to confirm.
That is confirmed crit.
There we go.
All right, Kevin from Helena, Montana.
Ooh.
It's pronounced Helena.
Helena.
No, it isn't.
It is Helena.
Helena.
Steel grip.
You grip your weapon tightly.
Double damage and your weapon acts as though you have a locked gauntlet for the remainder
of the encounter.
That helps me not at all.
Well, no, it's double damage.
No, because they...
Yeah.
Okay.
Well, if they tried to get rid of your...
Knock your weapon out of your hand.
Disarm.
Yeah, I already have a bonus to that,
so thanks a lot, Kevin.
The worst thing that can happen
is for any fan critical to get pulled by Skid.
Just for the record.
Yeah.
That is 66 points of damage.
66 points of damage.
Okay.
Okay.
Second attack.
Ooh. That is
A 28
28 to hit
That hits exactly
Alright good job
That is 33 more points of damage
That is a dead cap
Alright one down
Do you have any attacks left
I do
Do you want to take a shot on the rhino?
Yeah, I'll take one last shot on the rhino with my lowest bonus.
Oh!
Natty 16.
That is a 29.
That's 29 to hit.
That is a hit.
Yes.
This thing has not been hit yet.
Well done, Jimmer.
That is 30 points of damage.
Question.
What is your magical bonus on your weapon?
Plus four.
Plus four.
So that overcomes adamantine, I believe.
Plus three.
I don't know if it's plus five for adamantine.
Oh, God.
I hate this so much.
I do, too.
There's a page in the core rulebook, and I can never remember what it is.
I looked it up last week, and plus four yeah, plus four weapons count as adamantine.
Oh, great.
Yeah, awesome.
Great.
Okay.
Terminus S.
And that was 31 points of damage?
30.
30 points of damage.
Okay.
Whew, good round for Jimmer.
You know, the rhino, obviously the fire giant's coming up from the rear, big problem.
But the rhino, where it's a new opponent, you don't quite know what it can do, but you
know it puts out massive damage.
That's something that, if you were able to take that down, might give you a little more confidence.
But I could feel my ancient sword cut through its iron hide like a knot through butter.
It is the Rhino's turn.
The Rhino takes...
No, Metro will act.
Oh!
I delayed.
You did. Oh. I delayed. You did.
Okay.
I kind of want to stay in the fight.
Grant shook his head really hard.
Joe gave him a hand.
We are still in really bad shape.
We're still in a very bad position.
Yeah, but now we know.
If we could take this rhino out, that's a different story.
But Thune is still there, and you're not all linked. So I don't know what your plan is. Yeah, but now we know. If we could take this rhino out, that's a different story.
But Thun is still there, and you're not all linked.
So I don't know what your plan is.
Let's stay in the fight for another round, shall we?
Hey, let's see what happens.
Holy shit.
Let's just see what happens. Oh, my God.
We're going to die.
Metro will...
The dwarves disagree.
I think we're going to die.
It's the first time Joe and Grant have ever been in cahoots about anything.
Hey, I think it're gonna die It's the first time Joe and Grant have ever been in cahoots about anything Hey I think it's great Metro will
Step around Baron and Dogry so she
Links so she can get to she can connect the
Chain to Jimmer
And then I'm going to Dimension Doris
Oh
I'm gonna Dimension Doris
Back where we started
Beautiful okay
Interesting I like this
plan. I could be
a part of it.
So, Will, I'm going to take us as far as the map will
allow. Actually, I mean,
I want to go, whatever I really want to go is back
in the hallway. Will you allow that?
I get 400 feet
plus a bonus on this movement here.
And you don't have to see it?
For Dimension Durst, No, I don't.
It functions as teleport.
You just have to know.
Yeah, you want to get deeper into the hallway than that?
The one we ran up on.
Yeah.
So we can work the bottleneck.
Okay.
I want to go as far as...
I want to go to the extent of my movement.
So I have 400 feet plus 40 feet per level.
So I have 500...
Basically, you can go all the way back to the Intercept.
I have 620 feet.
Okay, well, here's the problem, and I'm not making this up.
Because Jimmer is large, and your configuration, it makes it hard for you to do that
because the tunnels are thick enough for the giants to go single file in there.
And Jimmer is now the size of a giant.
So it limits you to having to stay in the room.
Oh, okay.
Unless I did bear in mind.
You didn't get any reaction because I'm cool hand Luke.
Give me those eggs.
And there's nothing I can do in my movement to adjust that because Jimmer is just the way we're arranged.
Yeah.
Okay.
Well, I'm actually using a calculator now
And I'm wrong
I actually have 920 feet
On the dimension door
920 feet
Does that use up your dimension door for the day?
No
The range of the spell is long
So it's 400 feet plus 40 feet per level
So it's 920 feet
So
Is that far enough to get us back into the room
Where Dogwreath ran out of in the last combat?
The trap room?
Yes.
The room full of traps?
As the crow flies, too.
As the crow flies.
Not the way we ran.
Yeah, yeah.
Just like straight diagonal through the walls.
Right.
Yes, technically.
It is.
That is what we are going to do.
We want to go back into the trap room.
Okay.
Just, just.
Where in the trap room?
Inside the trap.
Just inside.
Right, like right on one of the traps.
50 feet over the spike trap.
Yes.
Do you want to be on the surface where you're not 100% sure where the traps are?
Or do you want, would you rather be up on the ledge where you, Metra, first saw, were attacked by the giants?
I want to be just inside the door to this hallway.
Just inside the door to this hallway.
Which I believe we all stood on, so we know is solid ground.
Okay.
I think, though, you would still have to roll a success chance.
Yes.
Based on your familiarity.
You're probably right.
It works like teleport?
Yeah, I believe so.
No.
You always arrive exactly at the spot desired
oh okay all right dimension door cool yeah yeah and you don't have to see where you're going
you you you always arrive at exactly the spot desired whether by simply visualizing the area
or by stating direction that's insanity but i mean, it's a limited range.
It's not like teleport. We could be anywhere in the
world, practically.
Alright, so you want to go there, and
you're leaving Thun behind, but he's
invisible. Baron just shouted.
Did you shout to Thun? Survive no matter what.
Survive. You'll live forever.
Something to that effect. Okay.
No matter what happens, survive.
This is... That's also what i plan on
telling my son when he reaches seven survive no matter good luck at school son daddy's got to get
a pack of cigarettes uh okay well this is absolute pandemonium here uh let's go back to that map. Oh, boy.
Okay.
I am still shaking.
You guys aren't on that map yet, but I am.
So I will... So dumb.
I'm going to bring you back to that map, and you'll see that you are now all there.
Minus Thune.
Minus Thune.
How many traps do you guys see on the screen?
Three.
Three?
I think three.
If the traps are only square.
I see three, yeah.
Good, good, good.
All right, so Metro, you Dimension Door,
Baron, Dalgrith, and Giant Jimmer back to that room.
There's one dead frost giant.
You're up on that ledge that led to this tunnel.
This is where Baron basically started the previous
episode. The stairs leading down, you see
that sinkhole up to the north there
and then obviously to the southwest
is that maze that you went
through, just barely
skirting by that chamber
of blade traps that
Dalgrit saw in the ground.
I don't know if I told you it was blade traps,
but it was pretty bad.
Okay.
It is technically the rhinoceros' turn now.
I'm not done.
Oh, you're not done.
So pardon me.
Metro will pull the staff off her back.
Pull the staff.
I have a staff of frost.
Oh, nice.
And then she'll turn to the other and say,
We have a few rounds. A few say, We have a few rounds.
A few rounds.
We have a few rounds.
We've got a few rounds left in the fight.
We've got less than a minute to get ready.
Baron pulls out his hand and flicks the ring that he put on,
which is, remember, some of them are wearing cold resistance.
And he kind of spins it, so he's just reminding her about it.
Okay.
Oh, that's right.
I won't pull the sack off my back.
You can still have it. Maybe it'll work. All right. I won't pull the sack off my back. You can still have it.
Maybe it'll work.
All right.
It's the Iron Rhinoceros' turn.
Almost certainly
the rerunts
don't have that.
They have no idea
where we went.
That's true.
They have no idea
where we went.
No idea where you went.
Unless we shouted,
we're this way.
Right.
Yeah, you just
soon meet us
in the trap room.
Disappear.
They saw you
and they're like,
wait, Dun's here
Previously go from the southern part of the room
To like the middle of the room
And then you went from the middle of the room
To who knows where
So I'm just going to walk through this myself
Rhino's turn
Thun does something
The captain is now dead
You've got the two new lieutenants
They do something
The backup captain does something Theants. They do something.
The backup captain does something.
The three fire giants do something.
It's now Baron's turn.
Wow, so he knows... This is absolute insanity.
That's insane.
Insanity!
Baron knows that Jimmer took some heavy hits
and is not looking too well,
so the most potent healing spell he has right now
is Cure Moderate Wounds on himself
from his spellbook, so
he's going to reach out and touch Jimmer.
So I guess he's going to have to move
in order to be
immediately adjacent to Jimmer.
My God, what a...
By God! What a blessing this was.
That man has a family! By God!
By God!
Minimum healing.
Eight points of healing.
Oh, no.
No, buddy.
Yeah, and that's about all he can do.
Okay.
Dalgrith.
Same thing.
Dalgrith's going to pop another potion of Cure Serious Wounds and drink it.
Jimmer.
Jimmer's going to take his own potion of Cure wounds and drink it jimmer uh jimmer is going to take his own post of serious cure serious oh yeah uh and okay 16 do you have 16 do you have more potions i do
have one more okay i have some too metra uh metra will cast Invisibility on herself. Ooh. Okay. And then...
Well, hold on a second.
Like, you know, that's just rounds per level.
And we don't even know when we're going to get here.
Yeah, all right.
If they even come here.
Do we think...
We don't...
We're not worried about any fire damage, right?
So resist energy.
You should actually...
And you should cast it on...
Well, actually, it doesn't matter.
You cast on Baron.
That's true.
I could. But yeah energy energy doesn't seem to be a concern here just the massive damage from right their weapons it's all physical damage and how long will you remain
enlarged skid uh it's it's several minutes okay so yeah so Metra will hand over a Cure Sirius potion to Jimmer.
Thank you.
And that will be her turn.
Thank you.
All right.
Thank you very much.
Rhino Thune, Lieutenant, Lieutenant, Captain, Giant, Giant, Giant, Baron.
Baron's going to keep on healing Jimmer since he's down the lowest, right?
You look better than him at this point if he was down half, right?
I don't know.
I have 82 hit points.
I'm at 97 out of 157.
82 out of 140.
Just do Jimmer.
He should be tanking more anyway.
Okay, better.
That is going to be a total of 15 points of healing.
There you go.
And out of level two spells.
I'm trying to think if there's anything else Baron can do.
Do you want to move at all?
Yeah, Baron will kind of...
Well, I don't know if there are traps.
I'm thinking there will be no traps, basically,
in a straight line from the stairs to where we're standing.
But maybe Baron will stand, and hopefully Dalgrith will move himself to go the way.
But Baron will stand behind Dalgrith.
I mean, I just figure we're going in the hallway.
I figure that, too.
Yeah, we're just walking in the hallway.
Okay.
You lead the way.
Yeah, that's fine.
I'll stand next to Jimmer And I will follow him
Hand in hand as we walk down
This is so cool
It is Dalgwith's turn
Same thing
Pop, posh, drink, posh
I've been holding these cure series for so long
To use in combat
So you can't move right?
Pull it and drink it
Jimmer?
Same thing for Jimmer
He's going to pull his second nice that is 20 points of healing for
Jimmer 17 for Dalguth Metra Metro cast mirror image on yourself nice great max
images yeah you do that and cast a greater invisibility on one of the rest Nice. Oh, great. Max images. Yes. Okay. Okay.
You should do that and cast greater invisibility on one of the rest of them.
Or maybe Dalgreath, actually, because you get the super tech.
Or maybe I can get a lot of us invisible.
Oh.
Oh.
Interesting. Well, greater invisibility is amazing.
Yeah.
Baron.
Greater invisibility on Baron.
Yeah.
Okay.
That's my turn.
Okay. I'm just walking that's my turn. Okay.
I'm just walking this through my brain right now.
And let me know when we're out,
when the haste runs out.
Yeah.
You've still got like a couple more rounds.
So at that point,
at the end of that hallway where it turns,
you see the regular fire giants run down to it
and turn and they see you.
Okay.
60 feet away.
60 feet away? 60 feet away. 60 feet away.
60 feet away.
60 feet away.
Yes.
60 feet away.
You say,
yeah,
they got 60 feet down and then they ran 120 feet and now they are just,
uh,
they are 60.
Well,
I'll tell you what,
there's six.
Yeah.
There's 60 feet away from where you guys are standing right at the turn.
Uh,
that goes up that 120 foot run.
Uh,
you just see the fire giants start to fill the hallway, but they're all single file.
And now it is Baron's turn.
Holy smokes.
I might have to move to a new map or use Theater of the Mind here.
Yeah, because we're fighting in a hall that's not in the map.
We're fighting in a, yeah.
You know, I might be able to just extend this.
Go ahead, Baron.
Sorry.
Baron glances back and sees Metra over his shoulder and gets an intuition, a look in
her eye that says he should delay.
Is that what you meant, Matthew?
I don't know.
What are you talking about, bro?
No, it's just a sense Baron definitely has on the battlefield.
I love it.
You're something.
How do you sleep at night let me uh let me put the fire giants on here because i've extended the map a little bit into like this side map and i think
it's now this is so ridiculous this looks a little weird here but does this make sense what i've done
yep so i've extended like what just looks like solid rock into also the background black of the map
and changed the grid to white.
But technically, that first fire giant is 60 feet away from you, and I have a headache,
and I think GMs are underappreciated overall in the world.
Baron, you held your action?
I did.
We'll just have to wait for next year's Glass Cannon Day.
That's right.
Maybe we'll get something special.
It only happens once a year.
51 weeks until next October 26th.
It's the most wonderful time of the year.
Dalgrith, what do you want to do?
Dalgrith is going to drink another potion.
All right.
That's smart.
Just getting beefed up.
We're staying.
Stock up on the poach.
It is Jimmer's turn.
Jimmer, you are, I know you're standing side by side with Metra on one side of you, and then who's to the south thereach. It is Jimmer's turn. Jimmer, you are, I don't know, you're standing side by
side with Metra on one side
of you and then who's to the south there? Oh no, that's you.
You take up four spaces.
Jimmer, he looks at the rest of
his companions and it says
the line is drawn and we fall back.
It's like, we fall back no more.
The line must be drawn here.
And he drinks his last. No father.
No father. He drinks his last potion This far. No farther. This far. No farther.
He takes his last potion of Cure Sirius.
Oh, yes.
23 points of healing.
Wow, that's amazing.
Yeah, baby.
23 points of healing.
And for just understanding purposes here, it's a straight line, even though it looks
curved.
Imagine that that's a straight line.
And the first one is 60 feet away? The first 60 feet away from uh baron and jimmer oh and he's
going to take a he was going to move uh in front of baron okay he's going to pull out the uh potion
as part of a move action or can you do that yeah okay you can and it's like drawing a weapon you
can pull out no no i'm sorry i thought you Okay. It's like drawing a weapon. You can pull out a...
No, I'm sorry. I thought you meant you were going to take a five foot step
and pull out the potion. I can't. No.
Oh, no, wait. No, I can.
Can I? No, I can't.
Never mind. He's going to stay where he is.
Stay where he is. Okay.
It is Metra's turn. Metra
will very calmly walk forward.
So she's about
40 feet from the first giant
and 60 feet from the furthest giant.
Metro, careful!
And she'll lower the staff of frost
and spend three charges
to cast Cone of Cold.
Yeah!
Wow.
Okay, okay, that's a reflex save, right?
Oh my god.
It is a reflex save, yes.
That's a good one for the giants.
All right. At least it's not fortitude.
The guy up front.
Caster level 10th on
the staff of Frost.
DC 19. First one fails.
Yeah. With a 13.
Second one,
16, fails. Yes!
And the third one,
natural 4. Yeah! And the third one, natural 4.
Yeah!
All right, I rolled a 30 on 10d6,
which is exactly half.
But it's cold damage, so...
Yeah, they're vulnerable to cold.
So what is the...
So what is...
It's 30 damage.
30 damage.
Plus 15 again, so 45 damage to...
All three of them.
What a terror!
That's so bad.
I just pictured this like...
And then just drop the staff.
Yeah. No, I'm holding on to
the staff. Oh, I thought it was three charges per day.
But just like multiple Metra
just standing up in front of like
I got this like
blast of like frost
and ice filling this hallway
this cavern
sweeping over all of them.
Absolute absurdity. the fire giants all like
yell out in pain and uh the one up front before he charges uh at metra at the nine metros
yells out in giant they're here we found them before he charges baron will take his turn oh Oh, Baron. Okay, okay.
Baron is going to stand.
How, how, how?
Baron is going to stand next to Metra.
Okay.
Knowing that Jimmer has reached, so I'm not blocking this off from his attack,
and that I can always go back through his square when he comes up to fight.
But he needs to be there for Metra to hopefully take some of the heat off her, even though she has
Mirror Imogen, is effectively
invincible.
After that move, Baron is
going to take one shot
at the front-most
giant and hope that he crits.
I hope that he misfires.
30 to hit.
That's a hit.
Beautiful. I hope that he misfires. 30 to hit. That's a hit. Yeah, buddy!
Nice.
Oh, my God.
That's one point away from maximum damage.
Whoa.
Gross.
That is, sorry, 36 points of damage.
Oh, my God.
Oh, yeah.
We got that right.
36?
Yeah.
That sounds good.
You need cold bullets. That was pretty brutal. All right, so that's it. You move to that right. 36? Yeah. That sounds good. You need cold bullets.
That was pretty brutal.
All right, so that's it.
You move to get there, right?
Yep.
Okay.
All right, the first fire giant is going to charge up to try and attack Metra.
Yeah, so they're staggered kind of behind each other.
They're still going to be able to charge up, but now they've prevented the other one from being able to get through it all.
So they're like angled with each other.
Does that make sense?
Yep.
Uh-huh.
Okay.
First one attack on how many metros are there?
Nine.
All right.
Let's see if it hits first.
Oh, God.
A nice roll, too.
That is going to be a 34 to hit.
That hits if you hit something.
So there's nine of you.
There's eight images in one of you.
What the hell do I frigging roll?
Just roll a D10 and roll it again if it's a 10.
Okay.
Hit Metro if it's a one.
Metro if it's a one?
Sure.
All right.
I wish I didn't say anything.
He's going to roll a one.
They're going to be like, oh, Brian!
Roll the six.
All right.
All right.
One image is gone.
The other one charges at Baron.
It's 10 feet away.
That one got right up next to Metro.
This one is still 10 feet away Because of the hallway
Oh, that was a one that went to another number
That is going to be total
33
Miss
Yes!
Oh, Barron!
So talented!
What a 35 hit
So talented
What a 35 of hit
Yeah, yeah
So even without powers.
With my blessing on, with my...
You've got that blessing still.
John?
Yeah, this is all still one big combat.
It would have hit me without that blessing of sacred protection.
That's a smart move.
God, the other one is still reeling from the frost damage.
And he is just in a really shitty position because of this stupid-ass hallway.
And he is just in a really shitty position because of this stupid-ass hallway.
I can't tumble through you guys with your stupid acrobatics.
He flies through the air with the greatest of ease.
Negative acrobatics.
I legit have been stymied by Matthew Capitacazza here. And that's why it hurts the most, right?
That's why it hurts the most.
It stings.
He is, he's just going to hold for right now.
That's, yeah, he's just going to have to hold his action.
And then you don't know what's going on
with the rest of the guys.
And you also don't know what's going on with Thun.
But he has minutes left on that invisibility.
I doubt Thun would have just attacked
out of invisibility there and become visible
to two lieutenants, a captain and an iron rhinoceros
he's not dumb he's not dumb
no he is headstrong
but he's not stupid he's also a master
of subterfuge it is
speaking of masters of subterfuge
Dalgrith Deathbringer
Dalgrith
is going to do the same thing
again he's going to drink his last potion
but he will take a five foot step up.
Okay. Yeah, I mean,
there's some other options, but Baron and Metriff
now are in front of the hallway. The Fire Giant's right
behind them, so there's no room for me to really get
in there right now. Okay. So he's
going to do his last heal.
He's got plenty of room to heal.
Jimmer, your turn. Jimmer
is...
going to run through the corridor.
Just stop falling on Metra and Baron's head from the ceiling as you shake the ground.
Yeah, and he's going to swing down over Metra's head to hit the fire giant standing behind her in front of her.
This is weird.
Have we ever done this before?
You can attack melee through your ally, if you're larger?
Yeah, you can do it
anyway, but they get covered,
just like it would be with the major tank.
I believe that's how it works with a spear.
How has this never happened before?
It has. It did with Orc back in the day when he was doing it.
We so rarely
have reach, so it just doesn't
usually come up.
Is that partial cover?
It's not improved cover?
Or soft cover?
Soft cover.
Soft cover.
Okay.
But it's probably not going to matter
because I rolled a natural 19, so that's a critical threat.
Oh, my God.
Roll to confirm.
Finish him.
Critical threat.
Critical threat.
That is 32 on the confirm.
That is a confirmed threat.
Oh, yeah.
All right.
All right.
Oh, yeah.
I can't wait to see how much Skid hates this fan.
I'm going to hate it so much.
All right.
Zach from Elkhart, Indiana.
I love that name, Elkhart.
That's great.
That's great.
By the power of Grayskull.
Oh, I like it already so far.
Your strike becomes something of legend.
Yeah.
Okay.
Good.
Increase the critical modifier by one.
Oh, my God.
Target may make a reflex save to reduce to your normal critical modifier.
Wow.
Reflex save?
Triple damage unless he...
No.
Yeah.
Unless he gets a 32 reflex save.
Okay, we'll go for the triple damage.
Triple damage!
Oh, boy.
We're about to paint this hallway red.
There you go, Zach.
You found one, Skidlight.
Oh, wow.
Skid rolled that with the blood of his enemy's red die.
Yes, he did.
That is 98 points of damage.
That is a dead fire.
Yeah!
Yeah, baby.
Yeah, baby.
He'll clog up the hallway there in terms of difficult terrain, but, you know.
Like a cleavish skull, just like.
Oh, yeah, definitely cut him in half.
By the power of split skull.
A nightmare fuel here for Jimmer, as usual.
And you had to step up to do that attack?
I did, yeah.
Way to make the one attack count.
That's one fire jump down.
Obviously, you don't know what their allies are doing at this point,
but you only see three, now two enemies.
Now it is Metra's turn.
Here's my dilemma.
I have, I marked
on Hero Lab, I have ten
charges on the staff.
I mean, I assume I did it correctly
when I added it to my page. Sounds right. Alright, great.
I'm going to do another Cone of Cold.
Okay. Oh, nice. So
roll a little reflex there.
Okay, and they're all
in it. He's still 60 feet away. He's still within
the cone. Yep, he didn't move. And you can aim it in a way that doesn't hit Baron, yeah?
Yeah, I can also take a five-foot step up if that makes it better.
It would provoke.
But you should.
It would provoke.
If you can move out of there after this, that would be amazing.
Yeah, I'd rather not.
You tell me, though, if I have the cone where it goes out one square each time, right?
I think you can do it without hitting me.
Yeah, I think where you're standing is in the perfect place.
Yeah, you can direct it.
Like anything else, if you were one step to your left,
you'd hit Baron, but I think where you're standing,
I'm just wondering if that still hits the guy in the back.
It hit him before.
Yeah, but you have to angle it differently now,
you know what I mean, to avoid hitting Baron.
But you can draw a straight line from Metro through both giants.
Yeah, no, you're good, you're good. save yep dc19 that's it all right it's
not impossible i just roll shit uh miss that's a fail uh and then the second one oh i actually
passed on the second one with a 20 just barely passed so the guy in the back passed the guy in
the front failed okay so it's 34 damage 34 uh So the one in the back takes half and then half again.
So the one in the back takes... 41.
No, I'm sorry, 51. Oh, God. 34
plus 17 is
40. So 41 to the first one.
51. 51. 51?
Yeah. Okay, and then the guy in the back
takes half of 34 and then half of
that again. So 34. So 34.
Oh, yeah. Oh, God.
Takes half of 34 and then half of that again. Anybody 34. Oh yeah. Oh god. Takes half of 34
and then half of that again. Anybody have a calculator?
I got two maps, nine
characters. Thank god for you guys.
No it's not though. Cause it's half
of what you actually take right? Yeah so it's
15 so it's 17 so it's half of 17.
So it should be 23. Yeah.
Right.
Got it. Yes. Good call.
And then Metro will
25
Half of 17
I got it
I redid it
I have it here
Okay Metro
Then will then pull back
Behind Jimmer
Okay so you
Shoot off that one
Burn another
Three charges
Yeah
It's expensive
It's expensive
But certainly worth
That thing recharges
Every day right
See I don't know
There's no
I looked this up
I don't know what the rules are.
I don't know how to recharge stats.
Oh, I know how to. You looked it up and couldn't find it?
I feel like I've read it before. There are certain
things where you can cast the spell
into it and recharge it, but otherwise
I don't know.
I would think for 41,400
gold pieces, this is
something that renews every day, like the
anvil.
I assume it does not.
Oh, really?
Yeah, I believe the charges are like, they either slowly go over time, or you have to pay to get them charged. Yes, I'm looking at it right now.
You can, yeah.
Wow.
Staves hold a maximum of 10 charges.
Each spell cast from a staff consumes one or more charges.
When a staff runs out of charges, it cannot be used until it is recharged.
Right.
Each morning when a spellcaster prepares spells or regains spell slots,
he can also imbue one staff with a portion of his power,
so long as the spell is on your spell list.
So these spells are on my spell list, but I don't know them.
So that's a tricky question.
It doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter.
Because they're in the staff.
So you're just putting a portion of your own magical power into it.
The only question I have for you is, did you have enough charges to do these?
You haven't used it enough since you've been charged?
I haven't used it at all.
Okay.
So now it's sitting on four charges left.
Yes.
Okay.
Still use a lot of time.
Metro will sling it across.
Can I do that as part of move action?
Sling it across my back as I move back?
Stow a weapon as you move?
No, that's a move action.
That's a move action.
Just step back. Good round, good round.
Oh, boy.
Hell of a round.
Great.
All right.
As far as you know, it's still Baron's turn.
As far as we know, I don't like how that was phrased.
Based on where Baron is standing,
and given that the map is a little weird to visualize,
would I, if I took a shot, would I take an attack of opportunity?
Do I need to step back further?
Based on where you're standing, yeah, yeah.
Okay, great.
I will step in front of Jimmer and then I will, I don't know, shoot it.
Let's see what happens.
I like it.
Shoot it with your gun.
Shake it up.
Shoot it.
22.
Yeah.
29 points of damage. Ooh, baby. Come come on finish it early
second attack is a 24
hit for
ooh nice on the bonus
28 points of damage
dead yeah
beautiful two down
how far away is the last one
60 feet or 55 now for Or 55, not for you.
No, he's 60.
If you just put the ruler on your square.
I am not going to, considering my bullets are all accounted for,
and I can't screw around with the count,
I'm not going to continue shooting beyond my touch range,
touch AC attacking range,
and I'm not going to spend grid points to dead shot these so I can
hit. So that is the end of
Baron's turn.
All right. Got a grid point back though
for killing that guy. It is true. Got that grid point
back. Okay. That fire
giant hasn't gone yet.
He sees the bottleneck that's been created.
Oh my god. Zealots.
These people are zealots.
They go after their quarry until the quarry is dead, or they are.
He will now act.
Wow.
This is absolute insanity.
If you're not playing this game, I don't know what you're doing with your life.
All right.
He is actually going to pull back
out of sight.
Because remember, he's standing at the end
of that hallway, so he pulls back
up the hallway. You don't know how far.
That's all you know.
And it is Dalgrith's turn.
You know what normally happens
if you're playing, like, Civilization
or another game, like a 4X like that?
You see the other nations all take that turn after you.
What he's doing is slipping in a secret one in there.
And I don't like it.
It is the worst.
Fog of War.
Yeah.
That is the worst and best part about playing this game versus a video game.
It's like you're playing a human.
And so there are mistakes that work against you, but they're also going's like you're playing a human.
And so there are mistakes that work against you,
but they're also going to be craftier than a computer.
Right.
All right.
One would hope.
Predict your moves a little better. I'm not always acting at full capacity.
I'm going to delay.
You're going to delay.
Yeah, it's all after Jimmer.
All right.
It is Jimmer's turn.
All right.
Jimmer is going to step ahead of Baron so that he is alone blocking this hallway. All right, Jimmer is going to, dum, dum, dum, like, step ahead of Baron so that he is alone blocking this hallway.
All right.
Jimmer, where did Jimmer go?
If you move the dead fire time, he's standing on top of the dead fire time.
And trying to look up the hall, basically.
Okay.
It's 60 feet to be able to see.
So, basically, if you move to the end there, then you can see where the turn is.
So where that guy was standing, if you get to there, uh, right up, yeah, that will allow
you to see up that hallway.
Yeah.
I'm not moving up there.
I'm going to stay with my friends where I am blocking this, uh, this juncture.
Okay.
Just in case someone were to come back down.
Yeah.
Each of you are going to have to move.
Thermopylae motherfucker.
You can have to move. The Rhopylae, motherfucker. You're going to have to move.
As I say, the Rhino Lake seems clearly inspired by 300.
Yes.
I think we have to also take inspiration
from the brave Spartans and other Greeks
who sacrificed their lives in the battle.
Can we have a different ending, though?
I'd love the washboard abs and everything else about it,
but I don't want
to... Well, in the end, the
Western civilization prevailed.
Oh.
But I'd like to be a part of that prevailing nation later.
That's true. We'll see.
I've drawn a white box on the screen
now. Can everybody see that? Yes. If you get into
that box, then I'll let you see up the hallway.
Okay. Okay.
Until you get up that box,
get to that box, nothing. I let you see up the hallway. Okay. Until you get up that box. Get to that box, nothing.
I know what's going to happen. So, Jimmer, are you just going to
stay there? Yeah, I'm going to stay.
Dog Wraith is going to act, and he'll just move
right behind Jimmer. Directly behind
Jimmer. That's a double move for him.
You guys have moved in initiative order so much.
Okay, Metra's turn.
What do you think we should do?
Try to draw them out here?
Yeah.
Or take the fight to them?
Teleport behind them.
I mean, that's what I was thinking.
They will start vomiting with the confusion.
Yeah.
I don't know if we leave Dimmer up front.
He might take a few hits,
but it's going to be hard for us to get to him as well.
The bottleneck works for us and against us at the same time.
All right, you know what?
Metra will walk up behind Jimmer and cast Fly on Jimmer.
Walk up behind Jimmer, cast Fly on Jimmer.
Oh, and don't forget greater invisibility.
I know, but I want to save that until we know when we're going.
How many rounds? Yeah, gotcha. So now if Jimmer needs to fly up don't forget greater visibility. I know, but I want to save that until we know when we're going. How many rounds? Yeah.
Gotcha. So now if Jimmer needs to fly up and around the rhinoceros
to take it out. How high are
the ceilings? They're only 10 feet, right?
15 feet, rather. They were much higher
in the other room. Yeah, no, it's 20 feet high
here, and they're 40 feet high in the other
room. Okay. I mean, I guess that's not
really worth it. Haste would be better.
Are we still hasted? No. I've never been hasted. Oh, well then I'll just count. Dog-wra, I guess that's not really worth it. Haste would be better. Are we still hasted? No.
I've never been hasted.
Oh, well then I'll just cast haste.
Cast haste. I'll cast haste.
Beautiful! That's better.
So now everyone is hasted.
Does it renew you in
barren haste? Yeah, it's just recasting.
Okay, so start the clock
over. I don't think they stack
with your previous haste. No, it replaces.
But Thun's haste is running out.
Okay.
So is this the time of life?
Baron, what do you want to do?
This is insane.
I know we keep saying it, but it's just preposterous.
It's my turn?
Because Metra just went, Jesus Christ.
Baron's terrified.
Baron's going to, you know, top himself off in case something awful happens.
And he's going to say, Jimmer, I'm going to start moving down there.
Wait.
All right.
We're springing a trap there, Baron.
That's what the whole discussion was about.
I know.
All right.
Baron's going to heal himself then and stay pat.
Max healing.
One point away.
So he's all good.
It's starting to feel like this is Metra's party, not Baron's so much.
Who's calling the shots around here?
I'm fine with...
I just...
I'm going to say to Metra, I don't want to go back into that place.
There's more stuff that could be down that hallway than we know about.
You need to keep it here for now.
Clearly they're waiting us out, and we don't know where Thune is.
Well, going over there is not going to help us any.
Hopefully he gets here himself.
Damn it.
Let's stay here and see what happens.
Another round at least.
All right, then.
It's easier to make it your party when you have spells that can move
everyone 900 feet
as the crow flies. But they have to be willing.
It was Dogra's idea.
It was.
Baron, shut up.
Just do what you're told.
Time passes. Things
happen. Oh no. I bet they do.
And it is Jimmer's turn.
They're all casting haste and mirror image on themselves.
Okay.
So.
The rhino is, like, getting gas.
Fill him up.
Fill him up good.
We come back in one of the fire giants.
He starts spitting oil on fire, like fired oil.
Do we know, they don't speak common speak common right do we know if they speak
common um roll knowledge local uh i don't have it if the fire giants speak yeah yeah uh natural 20
on a knowledge local for dog wraith i mean he could say that yeah they do uh yeah you don't
think they speak common yeah they do hi it's like, so he's going to direct this. He's going to do an antagonize at the captain.
Okay.
That he saw.
It's like, hey, you big, ugly, brimstone-smelling son of a bitch.
You're waiting right here, you coward.
And do an intimidate check.
That is a 39.
39. That's pretty good. 44. Uh, that is a 39. 39.
That's pretty good.
44, actually.
Oh, that's even better.
44.
So if he hears me and understands me, he is compelled to spend his next turn trying to attack me.
Okay.
Okay.
Yells down this hallway.
Just from the sound of his voice.
All the way down.
Yeah, you don't know how far away they are, but it's a long hallway.
I'm also huge now. You also are huge, so your
voice is even more... My voice is even bigger, more
booming. Booming. Dalgrith.
Delay. Delay.
Metra. Metra will
stow her staff, and
you want to hang
out another round? I guess we'll hang out another round and see how this entire
place plays out. And then we head down there, yeah.
Okay.
Yeah, she stows her staff, and that's it.
Baron.
Baron is going to meditate and think about a happy place with flowers
where he's not terrified of dying at all times.
That's about all he can do.
Yep, that's Berenstain.
Okay.
New round.
Jimmer, roll a perception check.
Okay.
18.
18.
Oh, 20.
20.
Wait, 22, sorry.
22.
18, 22, 22.
You listen down the hallway
And you hear nothing
No approaching enemies
You don't hear that fire giant that rounded the corner
Nothing
What do you do?
I'm gonna yell out again
Same thing Yell again. Same thing.
Yell again, same thing?
Well, no, not the same thing.
It's to say,
Where are you, lily-livered, long-legged bastard?
I know you're afraid to face us, man-to-man.
Yeah, Natty19.
That is a 45.
45. That was the missing point right there
That's gonna take him over the edge
Okay
Dalgrith delay delay
Metro delay Baron
I desperately want to walk into that diamond
But I'm going to delay
In solidarity with the party
We're now a communist run party I desperately want to walk into that diamond, but I'm going to delay. In solidarity with the party. Okay.
We're now a communist-run party.
Okay.
Man, this really is a standoff.
If you want, you can cast invisibility on me.
I'll go up there and take a look around that corner, but I don't want to go while invisible.
I have a feeling that Rhino might be charging right down on us.
Is it smart enough, though, to wait? I don't know. I don't know. It might be charging right down on us. Is it smart enough, though, to wait?
I don't know.
I don't know.
It might be taking orders.
I don't know how it works, because I failed my roll on it.
Yeah, agreed.
Whose turn was it?
He literally could not resist this.
If he can hear me, he couldn't resist.
Unless he doesn't speak common.
Unless he doesn't speak common.
Right.
I just delayed.
You just delayed.
Metro, you delayed as well?
I delayed as well.
Baron?
Delayed.
Check.
Check.
It's Jimmer's turn.
Jimmer, what are you thinking?
Same thing again.
It's a counselor.
Come out.
Come out wherever you are.
That is a 42. 42 42 just yelling down this hallway 60 feet down
120 feet another 60 feet echoing down the chamber three times in a row you've taunted these creatures
you hear sounds in the distance now where you didn't hear sounds In the distance now
Where you didn't hear sounds before
Dalgrith what do you want to do
I want to roll a perception on the sounds
See if I can pinpoint what they might be
33
It sounds like hooves galloping
I said I can hear them
I can hear the rhino coming
Brace yourselves
Metra
Metra.
Metra will cast Greater Invisibility on Baron.
Greater Invisibility on Baron.
Baron. God.
Baron
wants to position himself in an
advantageous way so that Jimmer can rush
but he'll have a good shot down
the hallway, but it seems like
that's where he is now, right?
This rhino will basically have to turn a corner
where that diamond is drawn on the map, right?
And I have a clear line of sight there right now.
Let me go ahead and call down my second judgment of the day.
Both will remain active.
A judgment of sacred destruction plus three
as he rubs his
hand over his gun and it crackles with
electricity not from a mechanical
perspective but of course and then Baron
is also going to oh he has one level one
spell left the length of the hallway is just outside of his range,
so he's going to cast Longshot on his gun,
giving him 50 feet of range instead of 40.
Okay.
That is Baron's turnzoni.
Dulum, dulum, dulum, dulum, dulum.
It's coming closer, closer, closer.
Rounding the corner In his regular move action
Is the rhinoceros
Mounted on the rhinoceros
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
Is the captain
And we'll see you next week
Oh, no, no, no, no
What have we done?
What have we done?
Imagine that image.
I didn't buy tickets to this rodeo.
You're truly a fool if you're not playing this game.
I'm a fool.
I'm a fool. The Glass Cannon Podcast is a Glass Cannon Network production
