Metro, let's go. Let's get out of here!
With their escape route cut off.
I must stay here for the rest of my life.
Right.
Or until the spell ends.
Or until you die.
Or until I die.
Well, that would be the rest of my life.
Yes, and probably the rest of theirs.
And an unseen foe on the prowl.
Do I hear anything? Do I see anything?
No. Neither hear nor see a thing!
Will the volcano be the party's final resting place?
You just feel, shaboom, a giant jaw bites you for 53 points of damage and eight fire.
Oh, my God.
Ow.

Well, and you know what?
The funny thing is, it actually does all start here today with glass cannon podcast episode 241 please enjoy
happy new year glass cannon nation and happy new year to the best table i ever played at what's
going on guys welcome to 2020 start the year off with a bang, Zony!
Oh, no.
The first Zony of the year.
Oh, wow.
I did start it early.
Oh, what a bummer.
Well, I was going to ask you if one of your resolutions was no more Zonys, but...
It's too late.
It's too late.
Maybe it was.
It's hard.
It's so hard to quit.
I can't quit you, Zony.
I made it through the morning.
Six hours without a Zony.
I'm out.
Then my wife started acting up.
You get out that door, Zony.
I said, Zony.
Can you imagine when Joe got really, truly hurt and angry,
if he just, like, regret, like,
he just started saying everything with a Zony.
He's, like, having kind of a serious conversation
about his feelings but everything's not verbally abusive he just drops zonies
constantly that's like okay calm down
i don't know what that means i've just never felt so isolated zony in my life
2020 guys big year i didn't realize until uh maybe two or three days ago that we were starting a new decade.
That thought had never entered my mind.
I knew that 2020 was a
much rounder number than
2019, but I forgot
what a big deal it was going from
1999 into 2000. Obviously,
that isn't what this is, but I think a lot of
people put a lot of stock, the non-Matthews of the
world, of going from a 9 to
a 0.
But here we are, 2020, 20 years into this new millennium.
Big deal.
I can't believe it. 19.
19 years.
Turns out that Y2K was a whole bunch about nothing.
Yeah.
It wasn't even the start of the millennium.
I don't know why people freaked out.
Real crock of baloney.
I ask you every year.
They just try to sell newspapers.
Remember?
There were newspapers then.
Remember the printed word? Do you think these
20s will be as rolling as the last 20s?
Oh. I'm sorry.
Roaring? Roaring, yes.
Why did I say rolling?
Why did I say rolling? I don't know.
You're high on zonies.
This is too many zonies.
I think we should try prohibition again, though.
I think that was... We got a dry run. You shut your mouth. So to speak. And think we should try prohibition again, though. I think that was...
We got a dry run.
You shut your mouth.
So to speak.
And now we know
what we're doing.
I think we can do it
right this time.
If we did prohibition
in the office,
we'd certainly be
a lot more productive.
That's true.
Why don't we start here?
Start locally.
I feel like that dry run joke
didn't get enough attention.
Well, I tried.
It was really nice.
Thank you.
He's too quick.
He just drops too many things and they're unassuming jokes you really have to be honest there's a million people
at home that just laughed i mean prohibition did produce quite a bit of great cultural content
you know after it was over yeah oh yeah yeah maybe it'll be worth it just just for the untouchables
alone yeah it was worth it boardwalk decade of crime and bootlegging. Seriously. It was worth it.
The birth of organized crime.
Rampant corruption.
Yeah, rampant corruption.
But hey, if you get a show like Boardwalk Empire out of it, it's totally worth it.
Exactly.
There was a game.
There was a Prohibition-era tabletop RPG called Gangbusters that TSR put out in the mid-'80s,
and I loved that game.
I played an FBI agent
and which is interesting
FBI agents back at that time.
What?
The FBI agent.
I can't remember.
Can't remember.
It's probably gold.
Yeah.
It's probably amazing.
How could you forget that skin?
Bob Dunce.
But they couldn't
they couldn't carry guns
back then.
Oh.
And like that became
a whole plot line in our game.
That's interesting.
Was my character kind of championing the cause of FBI agents being issued firearms.
Like, we went before Congress and everything.
It was really fun.
I had a blast.
You went before Congress?
Yeah, yeah.
It was a congressional hearing about it.
And I was describing some of the stuff that had happened to my character and
that was just where a firearm would have really come in handy and uh yeah that would be so awesome
we need to do that in our game girl for carners yeah well we've had like the the legal thriller
episode yeah but it's a little different than like the hearing yeah you know like hearing it's a
different vibe we should have a hearing episode every time we've done that in our home games and
here it's always been a great time
gold maybe the next show will open with the courtroom yeah i actually i do that is my dream
i want to i would love to branch out into other types of gaming and that's one i would love i
would love to do like a prohibition era like cops and robbers type thing and i would i would love to do a clancy-esque politically heavy
uh top secret spy campaign yeah yeah yeah you mean like cold war era um clancy yeah or modern
like modern you know era with like modern modern tech and everything um but i would love to do like
a very grounded um espionage like top secret game yeah oh i've always thought that would be so
interesting especially and i bring up the cold war era because i love the idea of the clancy like um espionage like top secret game yeah i've always thought that would be so interesting
especially and i bring up the cold war era because i love the idea of the clancy like
the clear and present danger sort of thing though like yeah like going into central or
south america yeah and black ops where like you can't be uh identified as you know a u.s agent
all this seems like it would be such an interesting game this segues perfectly into my question because
i was saying before i I started saying, and
then somebody cut me off about how I ask every year, but I want to be specific this year.
I'm asking this year, what are your gaming New Year's resolutions for the year?
So do you think for this year, are you trying to play more games?
Because that's something I've thought about, like play more RPGs that we would never get
a chance to play.
Yeah.
We don't really ever have time to play for for fun at least with each other um so but
that i would love to do that like i've been wanting to do that for a while our friends uh
matthew coppel uh a couple years ago like he gave me for my birthday an old copy of top secret si
the old uh merle rasmussen tsr role-playing game and i'd love to get one of those going
um i think it's a fine goal for the year.
Grant, do you have any gaming goals for 2020?
Tabletop or any type of game?
Any type of game.
I think I just really, really want to dig in deep to Fire Emblem Three Houses.
It's a game I got that I was very excited about.
It's got some strategy RPG stuff in it.
I started it.
I started to get a little bit into it.
It's very...
It's impossible to play.
Joe didn't know this part about it, and i didn't realize how much it is either it has a very persona 5 like
you're teaching your students at a school so it has that same kind of like maintenance to it on
top of that um jrpg yeah it's really well done it's very very good i think i really want to
play that and then i really want to play um it's another one of Skid's games he got a while ago.
I want to play Twilight Imperium with you.
Is that what it is?
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
The fourth edition.
Yeah.
You got that like two Gen Cons ago.
Eric Mona tricked me into buying it.
Yeah.
He did.
And I did.
He got you all amped up.
Yeah.
A Gen Con.
I would love, yeah, I would love maybe like when Samantha like comes to town, like we
should.
I think we're also going to have to rent out like an entire bar hall to be able to set
up the game.
I don't think we have a table big enough to play it on right now.
That's a good point.
Maybe we have to come to the studio.
We could just come here.
The box alone is huge.
Yeah.
Matthew, you don't play a lot of games outside of this table.
Like games, you do play some games.
You ain't got time for games.
Do you have any gaming New Year's resolutions?
You don't play.
No, no.
Not much of a gamer.
You got a Nintendo Switch, though.
I do.
You fiddle around with that little trinket.
Big Zelda fan.
I'm a big Zelda fan.
I would like to actually finish a game that I have for my Nintendo Switch, but that's
not really a resolution.
No.
Maybe you should make a game. I think of all
people, you need a gaming resolution.
The community looks up to you.
It's a pillar of innovation.
Alright, here's my gaming resolution.
To play with kindness and to always have fun.
Jesus fucking Christ.
I'm not kidding. That's actually
my resolution. Kindness.
Not to be disturbed by
when people try to antagonize me
like grant you mean like grant and just always approach gaming with a sense of fun
and narrative you know you know the worst part of this is people at home like thank you
somebody somebody finally said it said something nice you know what matthew i only have one thing
to say to encourage you on this round.
Oh, gosh.
Oh, God.
Oh, God.
Bless your heart.
Oh, no.
That's a Southern thing.
That's a Southern thing. Man, it's like he just jumped across the table and slapped you across the face with a velvet
glove.
Oh, I...
And you know I have seven of those.
A velvet glove full of pennies.
Yeah, full of old antebellum pennies.
I'm married to a seven-month-old.
I know what that means.
It was not nice.
Appreciate the joke construction there.
The fact that you said velvet glove and antebellum pennies.
That is how you're funny.
That is how you can be funny.
Specificity.
Thank you.
Oh, my God.
Antebellum pennies. Joee you game a lot i do game a lot uh with your with your with your new jersey friends i hate to bring it down uh in in matthew-esque fashion but i have a real resolution is it to
game less no no it's a real resolution, and it ties in directly to gaming.
So I'm going to use it.
I'm nervous.
Oh, it was a resolution that happens to be a gaming resolution, as opposed to one you made up for this table.
No, it is a general life resolution that is directly tied into gaming, triggered by gaming, which is, I want to try.
Give it a real try, because this is instinctual.
This is deep within me and you all
know this I want to try really really hard to be more positive about the outcome of games
during the game that is a big weakness of yours it's a huge weakness of mine and fatalist I
believe like I can always see the failure coming, whether it's playing board games or watching sports teams or whatever.
I can always see how easy it will be to fail, but I can never see a way to that.
It will be victorious.
I'm always surprised, pleasantly surprised by victory instead of being like, I got this.
We got this.
Even though victory is the usual outcome.
Right.
The victory is the usual outcome.
Right.
And even though when I win, I'm not as happy as I am when I just like have a good time.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
So it's like, it's really a life resolution, but it's like trying, it's hard to distill,
but it's like trying not to be negative early just because things aren't looking good. And that is all of life, but it is, it really comes out a lot in gaming.
As someone who has played Pandemic Legacy with with you i can say with confidence that it will greatly increase your
enjoyment and probably lower your blood pressure exactly i get myself and my enjoyment yeah i
thought that was good well yeah no definitely my enjoyment and others enjoyment or people who
listen to this show's enjoyment i think it'll lessen their enjoyment they're like laughing at
me that's true.
Indelibly burned into my brain are all the times
Joe has said,
would you just relax?
And that's what he's got
to tell himself
every once in a while.
Yeah, in the middle of games
it's hard for me
to take my own advice.
Just relax.
If you did,
you wouldn't have to take
six pills every two hours.
Every time it's like,
we'll start a game
of Star Wars Outer Rim.
All right,
gotta get my pills.
He's very sick.
What about you, Troy Troy what's your gaming resolution
well you know
I should have had a more specific one when I
brought it up to you guys but now that I
own a home
I've been able to create the
dream of having a man
cave oh where is your
do you have like a
basement thing do you have like a
basement thing? Do you have like a
area set aside? It was a big debate when we
moved into the house where we were going to put everything. We didn't
know like... Does this
where we want to put the master? Is this where we want to put
Archer's bedroom? Where do we want to put the family room?
Don't tell me Archer's in the basement. We have a lot of room. We put Archer
outside in the shed.
Was there...
Chain him to a post. He can run around all day.
As soon as he's zipping in,
he can move into the house.
We put a space heater in there.
What do you want?
Those are safe.
We don't want to spoil them.
It's got a padlock on the outside.
No one's going to get in there.
There's a dog and a space heater in there.
It'll be fun.
He's got a shovel.
He can bury it after he's done.
He likes it.
The monitor reaches.
Was the debate ever
that you would have a game room at all?
Or was that not up for discussion
We kind of got that done with before the purchase of the house
So we knew that there was going to be a room
That would be you know mostly mine
Most of the time unless we have lots of visitors
Then the room is going to double
It's kind of like hey here's a spare room
Does Sam have a room that's mostly hers most of the time
No no no
But Sam gets to
You know sequester all the stuff she doesn't want to look at In that one room most of the time. No, no, no, no. No, but Sam gets to, you know,
sequester all the stuff she doesn't want to look at
in that one room.
The best thing she gets
is when I go into that room,
she doesn't have to
spend time with me.
Right.
That, to me,
is the gift that keeps on coming.
She can get that
full-size regulation
giant's helmet
out of the living room?
Yeah.
That goes right in my room.
That's the thing.
It's going to take me
a little while
to build this up,
but it is...
So what is the layout? It's a quarantine zone. Anticipate It's going to take me a little while to build this up, but it is. So what is the layout?
It's a quarantine zone.
It's going to have a nice futon that can fold out into a bed,
because in case we have lots of visitors, we have the guest room downstairs,
another room down there.
I want to be able to have this be a third room.
If I want to have that big family Christmas that I've always dreamed of,
the big Thanksgiving, now we've got extra.
So that's the one rule.
She said, if you want to do that, you've got to have something that turns into a bed.
I said, fine.
So a couch or a futon that turns into a bed.
Big, big, big ass TV, 900 inches at least.
And speakers tastefully decorating the room and just being able to play PlayStation.
And maybe I'll even stream from home now that I can go in there, shut the door, have unbelievable
fires.
I'm just excited to delve back in.
Cyberpunk 2020 comes out this year.
I've been just playing lame games
to clear my palette
of all sort of adventuring
until that comes out so I can go super deep in.
I can't wait for that. I'm sweating just talking
about it. It's also 300 degrees in this room.
Yeah, I was going to say, I'm sweating because it's very, very hot.
Oh, God. And also, I've gained
500 pounds since August, so
just talking makes me sweat.
But that's another news resolution for another time.
Joe has left the table.
I wish that his resolution was to not leave the table.
I think he's going to turn the air conditioner on so we can survive.
I'll allow it.
And if you also pour a bucket of water over my head while you're up, just grab the bubbler there, the cooler.
Thank you.
It's like 20 degrees outside, and here comes the air conditioner.
Oh, thank God.
Welcome to New York. It's called efficiency. It's like 20 degrees outside and here comes the air conditioner. Oh, thank God. Welcome to New York.
It's called efficiency.
It's called power.
Oh, that's nice.
Yeah, I can kind of feel it
just wafting slowly
across the room.
I'm sure an hour from now
I'll still be soaked.
But you know who's also soaked?
Medra.
Ah!
Segway.
First segway of the year.
Really crushed it.
The old segzoni.
Drenched in the spell that was just cast on her.
You know, as a caster, Skid, you were a Pembroke.
You were a high-level caster.
Metro, obviously, you're a high-level caster.
You know what it's like with these save-or-suck spells.
You want to burn them because you're like, if it works, yes.
But it's such a bummer because the bad guy or whoever you're trying to cast it on saves 95% of the time.
And you're like, well, I just lost a round.
Which is a round and a high-level spell slot.
Right.
With a fighter and a gunslinger, you're only going to get so many rounds.
There's only so many spells you can cast.
Right.
Has anyone online or have you guys ever seen anyone online actually run the numbers of like generally the percentage chance of success on your average i'd be curious i'm sure
somebody has i just haven't seen it well i'm sure it goes up the higher level you are so at this
level you know i know what the dc is it's there's these are usually gimmies was it a gimme i have a
plus 15 we'll say it's not a gimme but it i'll tell you it's i i i
was taking a risk i wanted to i don't have your character sheets and i wish i did because then
i'd be like all right who's got the lowest will let me target them what is everybody's will say
oh man subtle mine's gonna be low low zoning this is information a gm should have no and this is
high level and this is information the audience should have too right right this is part sorry
we haven't posted our sheets and forever like we should do that and it
was always helpful to me because i'd be like in the middle of combat i'd go to our website and
be like what is uh what is old ben bricks will say i have mine is uh plus 11 plus 11 okay
baron plus 17 plus 17 i knew you were rocks um plus four oh this is the problem rogues man with high level play if it breaks this is the
problem is you have saves like your saves are so wildly different and you have to have equipment
to balance it or else it doesn't work right oh you had to burn even if you burn multiple feats
to get right iron will or whatever it is improved iron will you'd be what a
plus six so yeah i have i have a wisdom of 10 so i have no bonus to it and this you're raw as a
whatever i am 14th level rogue it's just plus four that's crazy crazy as far as i can tell i have no
penalties uh it would be plus six versus poison spells and spell like abilities which is why grant
always asked that in the early days yeah shut up shut your mouth they addressed this in second edition right they specifically
tried to address the scalability of saves right your saves scale with your level and so they're
not all the same but they're different but they scale with your level wow wow well uh the fact
that i that you rolled a natural one, again, not a gimme.
Just what a beautiful way to end the year.
I've been so excited ever since we wrapped recording.
Glad I can help. During our New Year's party, as the confetti was shot into the air and the champagne was
probably all over, Matthew could be seen in the corner with a cider, head down, eyes downcast,
confetti falling in his hair.
Like Lieutenant Dan.
Yes, exactly Like Lieutenant Dan. Yes, exactly
like Lieutenant Dan.
I want to see that photoshop.
Wait for that meme. There's somebody
who's going to take that meme and put
his bearded little face on there.
Dominate person in white letters right
under it.
Troy runs in from the side and says,
she tasted like cigarettes.
I couldn't kiss her, Lieutenant.
You are dominated.
So what is this?
I'm looking at the gif right now.
It's cracking me up, man.
So what does this mean for Metro?
Well, so I can't leave the room.
Here's the thing.
I don't want to invite a huge discussion about Dominate Person.
I want to make sure
I'm... Yeah, Dominate Person.
You go online, which
I did long before we recorded that episode
and read ad nauseum about
what people's thoughts on Dominate Person
are. Because it is, like a
lot of spells in Pathfinder, a lot of rules
in Pathfinder, a gray area that is
really up to the GM.
Debatable.
Debatable.
And the big key word that gets lost in there is like,
you know, it says,
obviously you can't do any harm to yourself.
You get a free extra save at like a plus two
if you're like,
I gotta go jump in the molten lava.
But the key word in here is says,
the phrase rather,
subjects resist this control and any
subject forced to take actions against its
nature receives a new saving
throw with a plus two bonus. And that phrase alone
has caused countless
discussions on the message boards because
what is against the nature? If I cast that on
Jimmer and I say, Jimmer, don't attack.
That's really against Jimmer's
nature. Jimmer wants to attack.
But if I say, Jimmer, attack Dalgrith. Is that against his nature? Or it's like, Jimmer's nature. Jimmer wants to attack. But if I say, Jimmer, attack Dalgrith,
is that against his nature?
Or it's like, Jimmer, attack them.
Protect me.
You know, there's a lot of different ways you can read it.
Oh, I would say protection is directly in line with his nature.
Right.
That would be the best way to dominate him.
Yeah.
Also, obviously, self-destructive orders are not carried out.
So you couldn't say, walk into the lobby.
Oh, you can't do that.
You don't even get the extra save.
You can't do that.
So it's very, very tricky.
Well, lucky for you, Metro doesn't run away.
So this is directly within her nature to keep us all here until we're either dead or that caster is dead.
Can't leave the room.
But can I still fight?
Can I still attack this caster?
Sure.
That wasn't part of the deal.
You aren't friends.
I mean, dominate person.
You can control the actions through a telepathic link that you establish.
If you and the subject have a common language, you force them to perform as you desire.
It didn't say, don't attack me.
It could have.
It could have.
It just gives you a command.
And the command was, under no circumstances can you ever leave this room.
Oh, you can change the command. I certainly can.
I kind of like the one I picked.
It was right on the spot. I just, I didn't
even have it planned. It's just like, keep
them in this room. If you're gonna beat
whatever's going on in here, you gotta
earn it the old-fashioned way. You said nothing about them.
I just can't leave.
I don't remember what I said.
Yeah. I probably should have listened. You said under no circumstances can you leave this don't remember what i said yeah i probably should have you said under
no circumstances can you leave this room yes basically right yeah they're welcome to leave
i must stay here for the rest of my life right or until the spell right or until you die or until
i die right well that would be the rest of my life yes and probably the rest of theirs let's jump
right back in it's not as bad as i thought no it's as bad as i thought. No, I'm not. It's as bad as I thought.
It's pretty bad.
It's worse.
It's worse than I thought.
I wasn't going to let Grant bully me into running anyway.
Yeah, you know what?
When you said that earlier.
What about all the positivity you pledged to bring to games, Matthew?
I just think we're going to be kinder around the table.
You're right.
I wasn't going to let somebody bully me into running anyway.
It doesn't have to be vague anger.
It's just none. I vow to be more n somebody bully me into running anyway. It doesn't have to be vague anger. It's just none.
I vow to be more nonspecific in my anger.
More passive aggressive.
Fully zony.
It is Baron's turn.
Baron, you don't know this.
Now, here's the thing.
You really can't bet again.
Yeah, we don't know that this has happened to her at all.
None of you have any idea that she is dominated.
Try to play with that.
Do I know I'm dominating?
Yeah, you do.
Yeah.
Well, no, you are because if there's something in the text that spells, like you're fighting against it.
Right.
But you can't.
You're not clear enough to tell us.
Right.
Yeah.
You can't.
Yeah.
Because that would have killed some of our plans when Pembroke dominated Digimon. Oh, you wouldn't know this, but you could attempt a sense motive check if I was doing something strange.
Yeah, it's a DC 15.
Yeah, yeah.
That's what I intend to do.
If you go to Mephri, be like, get us out of here.
And she's like, I can't.
I don't know, guys.
Then you can sense motive.
But based on the spell, I probably wouldn't say I can't.
I probably would try to make an argument for staying.
Right.
You cannot leave this room.
We must stay.
Baron, you are the farthest away.
I mean, this team is totally spread out.
How are you guys doing on that 120 fire HP?
You know Thune is already into his hit points.
Yeah, mine's gone.
Gone.
Jimmer's is gone.
Baron's got 11.
11 left for Baron.
35 for Dalgrim.
Okay, wow.
You took an early hit, and you've been holding on to it.
I evaded the second big one.
That was so I took no damage on the second big one.
That's what it did.
Metro, you've been flying around the room?
I got 54 left.
Nice.
54, okay.
All right, so Jimmer is the next one in terrible shape.
Baron, you're up.
You're far away.
You're near that wall of fire, which is still active, but no one is in it anymore.
There was some suggestion by a lovely gentleman across the tail from me
last time to cast see invisibility I don't think
that would dawn on Baron yet so as a free action
he is going to I've been talking about
where is this other caster yeah
I don't think it's dawned on Baron's been too busy in the flames
fighting these people and
Baron is going to do a free action
little stretch of the quad he's gonna get
down on the blocks in the runner's
position get down he's gonna dart all the way
across the room to get close to his party.
Uh, which gets him a grand total
of 80 feet. 80 feet?
Directly ahead, uh, and
he'll do a perception check once he's there. Sure.
Ooh.
That's, uh, uh, 39.
Ooh! Wow. 39.
Okay. Um,
listing for anything the source of a spell perhaps
Okay let's see here
Uh huh
Uh huh
Okay
I will say
Right near Jimmer
In the air above Jimmer
You sense something
A haziness in the air
You hear... A haziness in the air. You hear
a sound of
also like...
Oh, shit.
Very, very faint
near Jimmer.
I'm wondering,
I'm trying to think
what Baron would do.
Would he want to keep
this a surprise?
I think he would
want to keep the...
Tell Jimmer
at his 45th birthday party?
Do you know that day?
Remember that magma room?
Yeah, tell us,
tell me...
When Dalgrith died? Remember that day? No, there's Yeah Tell us Tell me When Dogwrith died
Remember that day
No there's
Tell me at the reunion
I could have told you
Two rounds before
There's a degree
There's a degree of surprise
That he was hoping to maintain
But he's gonna
Jimmer
Watch out above you
There's something
Do you feel it on your
Beautiful locks
And then
Baron and Jimmer
Exchange a romantic glance
For the first time
They realize
How
Yeah
You walked right into that And Yeah that's That's Baron's turn change your romantic glance for the first time, they realize how... Yeah.
You walked right into that.
And, yeah, that's Baron's turn.
Warning Jimmer.
Okay, thank you.
And falling in love all over again. You run over there, you roll a pretty high perception.
And you guys had rolled in the 30s before,
but based on where Baron is in this room
and various other things that have happened,
you do hear, sense something with your five senses that is
near and above Jimmer.
Moving right along,
I can't believe this initiative tracker has
lasted through
three weeks here, but
it is
Jimmer's turn.
Jimmer, so he gets to this
from Baron
and
can I do
my own perception check, knowing, now
knowing where?
Oh, nice, 30.
30.
You look
up, and you see nothing.
Or hear nothing.
You tune in, Baron just pointed
like there's something above you-ish.
You look up and you just can't hear or sense anything
of what Baron is telling you.
Okay.
So, yeah, I just make my way over to the treasure
and take a look to see if there's anything
immediately that pops out to me
that might be useful here or now.
Okay. Roll a perception check.
31.
31. Okay. You see
with a 31, you see a cloak and you see a
potion that catch your eye right away.
Okay.
I'm already wearing a pretty sweet cloak, so I'm
going to grab that potion. Okay.
You grab the potion.
And that
is your turn. Wow.
New round.
Dalgrith, Deathbringer Dalgrith, you're
right near that big treasure
pile. Jimmer just slid up next
to you, saw a potion in there, and grabbed it.
Mm-hmm.
What do you want to do?
Metro, let's go!
Let's get out of here!
And he's going to look at the treasure,
see if there's anything worth grabbing.
I mean, I'm just going to take a stupid round off
because I don't know about Metro's dominate person.
Okay.
So what is the...
You said there's a cloak.
I mean, is there any weapons?
Any shiny...
Roll a perception check.
There's a lot of stuff in there.
So if you're looking for something specific...
Yeah, the most value I could possibly grab.
And get out of here quick.
23.
23.
You can't quite tell.
There's so much in there to try and discern very quickly.
Something you can grab like a sword.
You just don't see it.
Still on a standard action.
Okay.
Don't forget Jim removed and then move action picked it up.
So you still have an action.
Yeah.
Gosh.
Tough call call It is
You know it is
I'll just ready an action
To
You know what I'm just going to stay fully in character
And I'm just going to ready an act
Now that I can't find anything valuable
I'm going to ready an action to just grab whatever
I can when Metra gets close.
Grab whatever you can when Metra gets close.
So it's not going to happen.
We're not leaving.
What do you mean we're not leaving?
Not yet.
We can't find it.
We're still fighting.
Well, where is it?
Look for it.
All right.
I got a little Kreska there.
He'll turn and do a Perception
Oh there we go that's a 33
Nothing
Nothing okay
There's something there Metra I can't see it
You're out of your mind Metra
You've lost your mind
I'll do a sense motive
No I'm just kidding
Not yet
Kicking dirt at her
Cause that's not that out of Metra's
I was thinking about our fight in the multi-tier combat
Yeah the great stare
Yeah where we zipped behind
them and then fell back. Baron and
Dalgrith multiple times were like, let's get out of here!
She was like, let's stay one
more round. Yeah. And kept it
going. So, like, to me, this is not that out of character.
Thun's turn.
Thun is going to
double move to
try and get closer to the party.
He gets about ten feet behind Jimmer right at the edge of that magma pool.
And it is Metra's turn.
The dominated Metra Narn.
Okay, Metra has to keep flying, but she will draw the Staff of Frost as she does so.
Okay.
Did I get here Baron's message about the area?
I wasn't trying to hide it.
Sure, sure.
Yelled out that there was something in the area above and near Jimmer.
Okay.
So Metro will fly in that direction.
Okay.
And using the Staff of Frost, I'm going to cast Cone of Cold in the area above Jimmer.
Excluding Jimmer from the blast and Gogo above his head.
But it's, you know.
Show me where you fly and show me where you cast it.
Show me the cone.
It's a 60-foot cone, right?
Or let me just check it.
The spell is a 60-foot cone.
If you're casting from the staff,
it's just the spell?
Yeah.
I have to expend extra charges to do so.
Cone of cold, you said?
Yep.
Yeah.
60 foot cone-shaped burst.
Okay.
All right.
So I will fly.
I probably have to take a long...
I have to go the long way so I can keep in the air.
Take the long way home.
Okay.
But yeah, I'll come down to the opposite side over the treasure.
Okay, now, boy, that's...
That puts everybody in your firing range.
No.
It's just going to put the cone up in the air.
Oh, so you're coming down to the ground or just hovering five feet above?
No, I'm going to basically fire it off at my level, but I'll be at, say, 20 feet in the air.
Okay, so it doesn't blast wide to hit your target.
Oh, that's a good question.
It does, but you can just pitch it so that it goes flat out from you.
Yeah, tilt it up.
Tilt it up.
Yeah, you're fine with that.
I'm fine with that.
So, yeah, that's a cone of cold,
so that'll be a reflex save for half.
All right, go ahead and...
I don't know what the save would be.
Now, is this a spell that you're using a wand?
It's a staff, but yes.
All right, so go ahead and roll spell resistance.
Okay.
What is my...
Just a cast level.
Assuming Cone of Cold allows spell resistance, which I'm...
I'm assuming so, too.
Sure does.
Spell resistance, yes.
That will be a...
Not great.
17.
Okay, so you blast it off.
Go ahead and roll damage.
Oh, boy.
Oh, boy.
I love it! I love it.
I love when I GM like monsters with spell resistance or even,
you know,
casters,
creatures,
people,
whatever was spell resistance.
What's the caster level on the staff?
Jade region had a ton.
It's me.
Yeah.
Oh,
okay.
Cause that's what the spells are.
Generally they become your caster level.
A lot of the monsters in Jade region had spell resistance.
I haven't seen it too, too much in our game because you don't face a lot of casters.
Right.
Or high level casters.
Right.
It's just such a fun thing as a GM to be able to...
48 points of cold damage, though you do get a reflex save for half.
Okay.
What's the DC?
No idea.
All right.
All right.
If it's based on my...
If it's spells of
It's based on your
So this is a spell
Fifth level spell
Yeah so look at the DC
Of another one of your
Fifth level spells
Unless you have
You know a
Focus school
DC 21
21 okay
Alright so you blast
A cone of cold
Pitch it just above
Your party
And you blast that area
That Baron was speaking about
And you really hope
For the best
Do I hear anything? Do I see anything? No Neither hear Nor see And you blast that area that Baron was speaking about. And you really hope for the best.
Do I hear anything?
Do I see anything?
No.
Neither hear nor see a thing.
We need to coat this thing.
You don't have a glitter dust or something? I don't have a glitter dust.
I had another idea, but I don't know if it would work.
At that moment, Baron feels a very painful feeling.
If it hits. Let's see if it hits.
Let's see if it hits.
Yeah, yeah.
For all the dramatics.
I'm going to go ahead and put on Vital Strike.
He had his hand back behind his head.
He was ready to act something out.
And Power Attack.
Oh, boy.
Oh, boy. Do I want to near green this?
No.
Oh, boy.
Oh, boy.
That is going to be a 34 to hit. Oh, that. Oh, boy. Do you want me to green this? No. Oh, boy. Oh, boy. That is going to be...
Oh, dear.
...a 34 to hit.
Oh, that's a hit no matter what type of creature.
Okay.
Even if it's a giant.
Is it ranged?
No.
You just feel a giant jaw bite you.
Oh, dear.
From above you.
Just...
One gigantic bite.
Oh, man.
53 points
of damage. Oh, my God!
And 8 points of fire damage.
You just feel...
Shaboom! A giant jaw bites you for
53 points of damage and 8 fire.
Oh my god. Ow!
Oh my god. If only you'd been able to see
it coming.
That's cold. It's a new year, man.
Your new year is not doing too well.
It's ice cold. Also, I only have 60 feet of
dark pigeon, so I'd had to get down here.
I think it's within 60 feet.
Right now it is, Matthew.
Now he's certain. Did he grapple him?
Or just a bite? Can I just give a quick assessment?
Matthew's being an asshole.
Just a real
piece of shit.
Grant's resolution was not to let
Matthew slide. Nope.
Baron, it is your turn
however. You feel a giant jaw
somewhere above you. You look up and you
see nothing.
Baron's sensing his protection against fire fading away while Swift Action casts protection from elements on himself as his judgment.
The only judgment currently applied to a six points of fire resistance.
Let me ask you this.
Does he have protection against bite?
Before he does it, he's going to take a five-foot step, and then he's going to do it. Hopefully, if this bite Before he does it he's going to take a
Five foot step and then he's going to do it
Hopefully if this creature is large it's not going to help
And then he is going to cast
C invisibility
You cast C invisibility
On yourself
And I explode
Well hold on make sure that that's not in provoking range
Because that's a spell
Can he just roll to cast defensively Yes It's not in provoking range. Because that's a spell.
Can he just roll to cast defensively? Yes.
Yeah, but it's not like you roll to cast defensively.
You would just bet.
You have no reason to believe.
It's large.
But, I mean, you have no reason to believe that if it bit you that you're not within range.
So you would probably want to naturally cast defensively.
Okay, great.
Unless you want to just see what happens, take the hit.
Nope.
If it happens to be in range, maybe a bit you and flew away.
So I rarely cast offensively.
Remind me.
Check on the spell.
It'll give you your bonus.
Beautiful.
At the bottom of the spell.
Plus 12 versus DC 19.
Here it comes.
Oh, that's not bad.
It's never that bad.
Well, yeah, I thought he had a lower.
19.
I saw that seven.
Wow.
So exactly.
Wow.
You are able to get it off without provoking an attack of opportunity.
Huge, dude.
Huge.
Enormous.
With 53 points?
Oh, my God.
And not just that, you lose the spell.
Right.
Well, not just lose the spell, but you have to get over the damage you would take.
So you cast the invisibility.
And you look up. So you cast the invisibility and you look up
and you see
a
huge
jet black dragon
with scales
running glowing
rivulets of lava and veins
aglow with heat
shining in the membranes of its
wings. And it
looks,
I can show you guys, it looks
like that.
Oh!
Oh, man!
That is bad news,
Baron. Oh, no.
Oh, wow. That
is what you see.
Baron is backed up against a wall
against this thing,
and the only one that can see
this huge
jet black dragon.
Hey, so my cone hit it.
Sure did.
Sure did.
Yes, but Baron is able to
at least tell you,
as long as it stays there, you can target it.
You can try and target it.
Baron's quaking in his boots because this is a terrifying dragon.
This is not like those dragons that went down, pop, pop, pop, one at a time before.
So, let's everyone know in the party, our foe is a black dragon with lava for veins.
Fight as true as you ever have before That is Baron's turn
I've removed the dragon from the map
Because no one else can see it
It is Jimmer's turn
Jimmer you're
Jimmer
Jimmer you grabbed a potion out of the pile there
And now Baron has yelled out
Jet black dragon
Lava veins
Okay
Jimmer,
uh,
so he goes in the direction
that
Baron pointed out, pointed it out,
and, uh, he's gonna try
to move towards it and swing
at where he thinks it is.
Uh, okay,
so you move in that direction,
go ahead, and, uh, hmm, you know, this is where it gets tricky with your invisible Okay, so You move in that direction Go ahead and
Hmm
You know, this is where it gets tricky with their invisible
Like he knows where Baron pointed it out
So normally you'd have to roll a perception check
To try and pinpoint its exact location
Then it's still a 50% mischance
With AOE it's signed a covers
Now it gets a lot of negatives
Because it's attacking, it's moving, it's doing all this shit.
So go ahead and roll a perception check.
I don't think you need to percept.
If he says it's right there and you go up and swing.
He's swinging at a square.
At a huge creature, too.
Yeah, it is huge.
Yeah, and in theory, Baron can be talking to me the whole time I'm moving up.
It's like, warmer, warmer, warmer.
Stop right there.
The 50% mischance is enough.
Yeah, that can't be. It's a little concealment. Yeah. All right there. The 50% miss chance is enough. Yeah. That can't be.
Total concealment.
Yeah.
All right.
Go ahead and roll to hit first.
Okay.
That is not a good roll.
That is a 26.
That is a miss.
Okay.
So Jimmer gets up there, takes a big swing.
I'm actually, I'm going to re-roll that.
I'm going to use my ability.
Oh, Jimmer, Jimmer.
Oh, no.
Natty, 15.
All right.
All right.
You crit 17 to 20?
Yeah.
Okay.
So what is the total to hit?
Total.
Oh, that's a baller question.
That's not cool.
Total to hit is 39.
That is a hit. Now roll a 50% the hit is 39. That is a hit.
Now roll a 50% miss chance.
Okay.
51 or higher is a hit.
Okay.
33.
No blind fight?
Larry Bird.
Oh, do I have blind fight?
I might have.
I do.
I do have blind fight.
Yeah!
Rolled again.
Rolled again.
Nice grab.
Nice grab.
Huge.
You're welcome, Matthew.
88. Wow! That was almost terrible. 88. Rolled again Nice grab Huge You're welcome Matthew 88
Wow
That was almost terrible
88
Alright so
Roll damage
Oh nice
32 points of damage
Alright
Alright
Wow
That really
That turned around quickly
Man
32 points of damage
Jimmer is able to step up
He swings
But what is that power That lets you take another shot at it?
That is reliable strike with my long sword.
All those hours practicing, step, step, swing.
Right.
Step, step, swing.
And that, too, and he's done it for years, too, like blindfolded and in darkened rooms.
It's like he gets a training dummy.
He's just like...
So huge.
Just wanted to be ready for any situation.
He's just like drilled and drilled and drilled and drilled his entire life.
Two second chances on that.
Missed on the first hit, missed on the missed chance, and then got it with blind fight.
Huge turn for Jimmer.
You have struck the enemy in this room.
It is a new round.
This battle is far from over, and it is Dalgrit's turn.
Oh, where is it, Baron turn Where is it Barret?
Where is the chipper?
You could probably see
Where my sword hit it
I like to imagine
An oil leak happening from the bottom
Of a car
Oh my god
If his blow struck true
What we probably see is his sword just swinging down
With full force and then just stopping on something
Just like tip of it vanishing
And like a spray of blood coming out
You know what I didn't even think about this
Baron
I need you to roll
A save
Now that you can see it I forgot you're the only one
That can see it
Oh it has like a gaze John
Get out of here Is it a poison, it has like a gaze, John? No. Get out of here.
Is it a poison spell or spell-like ability?
I gotta know. That's fair.
It is a special quality.
That's SP is a spell-like
ability.
You have a
special quality for lying. I was reading the
text.
What am I doing here? Let's see.
You know,
hands off the chess piece, actually, Troy. I'm gonna
have to make you wait until my next turn
to try to apply this. Well, I forgot you
could see it. Roll a
will save and
Do I get that plus two bonus?
It doesn't
spell like a
probably safe to just say yes
But imagine
Sounds like a spell
Well maybe not a spell but
Spell like
Maybe a spell but like a spell
Spell-ish
Spellish traits
It's an aura Which is It emanates from a spell-ish. A spellish trait. You know what it is? Spellish? It's an aura.
Okay. Which is...
It emanates from a spell-like ability, though.
This is the dragon terror. This is like the dragon terror.
It doesn't fall under... I'm not seeing
anything that falls under this. Alright, here we go.
We'll see. Here we go.
Natural two.
For a total of a
19. Oh, no. It's really happening. Okay, so that's a 19. Oh, no.
Okay.
It's really happening.
Wow.
Okay, so that's a fail.
Oh, God.
That is a fail.
You must flee with all speed.
Oh, no.
Oh, just...
No big deal.
Just Baron and Metro out of the fight.
Yeah, who cares, right?
I'm not out of the fight.
You're right.
You're right.
I'm so committed to this fight, You're right. I'm so committed
to this fight, I literally can't leave.
That's true. It's Ghostbane, Dirge, and Glitterdust.
These are things we've needed for
five years now.
Five solid years.
We needed Sea Invisibility.
We need communal
Sea Invisibility.
That's a very high level spell, right?
Maybe. I don't know.
Sounds like it should
be right I'm never
gonna get to the level
where I'd know
communal true seeing
what's interesting is
activating this ability
is a free action that
is usually a part of
an attack or a charge
usually a part is the
weird it's a free
action but it's still
on your turn right but you left your hand off
the chess piece. Forget about the chess piece
for two seconds. Free action.
I'm trying to think if it would still
be active.
We have incomplete information.
Any opinion we render on the subject
would be a moot. Yeah, it's kind of hard to say.
Yeah, it's tough. I'm going to go ahead and
make you fail, and
let's see. You are... How go ahead and make you fail. And let's see.
You are, how many hit dice do you have?
14?
Yep.
Oh, dear.
Oh, I know what it is.
You do?
I have an idea.
What is it?
I'm going to guess it's some sort of confusion effect.
It's not bad.
You're just shaking.
Oh, okay.
You're just shaking for...
I thought he was going to have to drop his gun and run.
And into the lava.
Into the lava.
Directly.
And throw the gun into the lava.
And then dive in after.
First, heave the gun into the lava.
Then go, what have I done?
And run after.
And then as I do it, Nestor pops out and shoots me in the head and I'm dead.
It could have very well activated the frightful...
This thing as a free action on the way in.
You're only shaken for 25 rounds, so I'm sure you'll be fine.
25?
Yeah, 25. Really? So if this goes 26 rounds... I way in. You're only shaken for 25 rounds, so I'm sure you'll be fine. 25? Yeah, 25.
Really?
So if this goes 26 rounds.
I love dragons.
They're so crazy.
25 rounds, you are shaken.
Dalgrith.
Now it is Dalgrith.
All right, Dalgrith is going to move with all haste,
literally clicking his heels, using up these haste rounds
to run up, avoid the AOO, the assumed AOO, though.
You can attempt to.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't know if he can attempt if it's invisible.
I mean, you could enter a square in like a devious way and like it could still have trouble
hitting you.
It makes sense to me.
He's going to tumble around.
He's going to tumble around.
Catherine Zeta-Jones-ing that square.
Oh, that's interesting.
Yeah.
If it's invisible, can that's interesting. Yeah.
If it's invisible, can you avoid it?
Yeah.
You can try to avoid it.
I don't think it's a... There's no reason you wouldn't be taking a defensive move,
but it's deciding when to do it.
Right.
It's the timing.
But it's about him tricking the eyes of the attacker.
And the acrobatics doesn't say...
Like, an opponent you can see just says you can move through a threatened square without provoking an attack of opportunity.
Pretty generic.
I wonder if there's tables where, like, no, I know exactly how this works.
Yeah.
Oh, I'm sure there's a lot.
That's mind-boggling to me.
Just not this table.
Yeah.
All right, I'm going to roll it.
You tell me what you want to do after.
That is a, ooh, it might not be, dude.
Against CMD, that is a 39 i might not be dude against cmd that is a 39 that's
a fail um how now here's the thing is vital does vital strike remain on or just power no no no
power attack you make a i'm 90 sure i think vital strike is a standard action when you use the
attack actually make one attack all right so we'll take off vital strike but power attack
will stay active oh no this is really bad.
Let's just, let's see what happens.
That is
going to be a...
It's gonna be close.
It's gonna be real close.
No, it's not. Shit.
You tell me. 37?
Yeah, I knew he was gonna do that.
37. Alright, well,
you know, it is what it is. I mean, if we're gonna to go down, might as well go down fighting a fucking magma dragon.
Yeah.
38 points.
An invisible lava dragon.
Of damage and eight fire.
Okay.
I feel like the Los Angeles Rams when they play the Patriots in the Super Bowl right now.
You have the Rams?
Yes.
Yeah.
Eight points of fire.
Eight points of fire, 38 regular. Okay, and now he's going to jump on it. Try to. Try to Eight points of fire. Eight points of fire, 38 regular.
Okay, and now he's going to jump on it.
He tried to.
He tried to.
It's flying.
Well, Jimmer hit it.
Yeah, he swung up at it.
Can you jump up onto a flying creature that you can't see?
Sure.
Okay.
I mean, he can hit it with a melee attack with a reach of five feet.
And, dude, I could jump on it with a reach of five feet.
I'm going to say 50% missedchance on the CMD attempt.
Imagine it cinematically, though.
It's amazing.
I know.
It's pretty badass if you just see Dalgrith flying in midair.
Here's the real question, though.
Yeah.
Would Dalgrith disappear based on the rules of the invisibility spell?
Oh, don't even get me started on his stupid character.
I can't even.
No.
No, he does not go invisible.
He's not wearing him
like a fine necklace.
He is, I think.
He is wearing him
like a fine...
No, I'll be around his neck
in just a moment.
I am wearing clothes
that are made of silk.
My necklace is a Deathbringer.
But that's actually...
If you are hanging off
of this thing,
that should make it
easier to spot.
That's exactly
what I was thinking.
Yeah, that is very, very true.
That's why I asked.
That's why I want to get on it.
Yeah.
But it's not going to be easy.
Come on, Joe.
You got it.
You got it, Joe.
Just be positive.
It's your New Year's resolution.
I know.
I am.
The two rolls.
I got this.
The roll to hit the CMT.
I got this.
Oh.
Just be happy, buddy, even if it didn't work out.
Oh.
I failed. It's Joe's favorite number. Oh, you're good. I hope it didn't work out.
It's Joe's favorite number.
The first die thrown across the studio.
Failing his New Year's resolution.
Dies.
Oh, no.
I didn't say I would never get angry.
I said I would never be angry about the outcome, the future.
We got this.
You're so happy.
That was a natural five, which is your least favorite roll. I know.
I hate it so much
because I rolled a six, and that
was just a fail. Watch out for your
preferences, gentlemen.
Piece of trash character
from a piece of trash player.
Well, you know who's going to save the day? Old
Dune. No, no, no. I'm going
to attack. That's not an action. Running up and do it, that's all part of it. That's all part save the day? Old Thune. No, no, no. I'm going to attack. That's not an action.
All right, so running up and do it.
That's all part of a move.
That's all part of the move.
All right.
I can't get on it, so I'll just try to take a stabby at it.
Is it evil is the question.
It's got to be.
Oh, it's going to be a miss.
No, it is not.
Oh.
It's not evil?
It's not evil.
No.
It's reason with it.
Not a bad idea. Just give it back to Pot's not evil. No. It's reason with it. Not a bad idea.
Just give it back the potion, Jimmer.
Yeah.
So 29, or I'm sorry, 27 is a miss?
27 is a miss, yes.
Did we, Murph?
You know, it's funny, telling you if it's evil or not, you really shouldn't have that
information, you know what I mean?
You should just tell me what the damage is, and I'd be like, yes, no, maybe so.
But it affects the two hit, too.
Like, it's all rolled in.
Yeah.
But giving you that information, you're now not allowed to metagame
with that. I never do.
That's a complicated thing.
That's why you need seven GMs and four
players. Thune is going
to step past
Dalgrith
to the north here and
just swing out
basically in the same direction that
you did.
That is actually
not a critical threat, but a
19. No, he
misses with an addy 19. Oh, gosh.
So Thune misses, and
now it is Metra's turn
under no circumstances.
I'm not leaving. Can you ever leave
this room? I'm not leaving.
Who's leaving? i am going to use
the staff and i'm going to use the one remaining charge on the staff to cast ice storm ah which
will be a 20 foot radius 40 foot high cylinder that i will cast to exclude all my friends and
rain down icy chunks on this dragon.
Ice storm.
We looked that up, I believe. You get a reflex save.
Don't look up the movie by accident.
Why don't you give me a spell resistance check?
Is that the key party one?
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's Ang Lee, right?
Ang Lee, yeah.
There we go.
Yeah.
What's the total?
What's the total?
On my spell resistance?
Yeah.
34.
Okay, that looks like you're going to be all right.
Young Elijah Wood.
Reflex save, you said?
Yeah.
Yes.
What's the DC?
This is a fourth level spell, so it would be DC 20.
Let me just confirm that.
I rolled a 29.
Kevin Klein.
So you take half.
He's really good in it.
I haven't seen it.
Oh, I'm sorry. Saving throw none.
I was looking at cone of
cold. Yeah, it's just a storm, man.
You can't avoid a storm.
Caught in the storm, bro. I wasted my
29.
Okay, so
you take 9 points of bludgeoning damage.
Okay.
And then 11 points of cold damage. Oh, 9 points of bludgeoning and then 11 points of cold damage
Oh
9 points of bludgeoning
And then 11 points of cold damage
Now a heavy ice storm
Is now in this area
Okay
So creatures inside this area take a minus 4 perception skill
Minus 4 penalty on perception skill checks
And the entire area is treated as difficult terrain
I would imagine that makes it difficult to fly.
Interesting.
Interesting.
Yeah, difficult because it's not like just on the ground.
Also, I know it's not in the rules, but if there's a constant hail of frozen rocks falling down,
you would absolutely be able to see the outline of this creature if it was within it.
That's true. Even though Glitter Dust
is the only spell that
tells you it shows the outline, I think
that's fair to say. I mean,
all it does is it means you guys don't have to roll that
perception check. You know where it is.
You just get that 50% chance.
And then I gotta move 60 feet.
Now, who's the one
that hit it with a melee attack? Jimmer?
Jimmer. It was Jimmer. Jimmer.
It was Jimmer.
Jimmer did it.
Okay.
God, guys.
I missed, dude.
Dude, I missed.
In fact, I wasn't trying to hit you.
I just dropped my sword.
I was trying to help you.
Right.
Exactly.
I was trying to show you the value of my weapon to add to your treasure.
Look how nice this little knife is.. Look how nice this little knife is.
Look at how nice my little knife is.
I forgot to mention, Jimmer,
as you struck it,
you took 16 points of fire damage
from the warmth surrounding it.
Wow, okay.
Go ahead.
I forgot to mention that.
Just a little thing I wanted to mention.
Okay.
I know I say I never do this.
I'm going to go ahead and throw it in here.
Go ahead and metagame a little bit.
I don't think we're supposed to beat this thing.
You may be right, but this sounds really bad.
We're supposed to do something else.
Do you speak Draconic?
I'm not saying we can't beat it.
We can beat it.
No, I don't.
Sir Will did.
I don't.
But I don't think we're supposed to beat it.
Del did, too.
Yeah.
Man.
The good old days.
But it speaks.
No, but. Oh, yeah, it speaks. Metagaming, we know it speaks common but oh yeah it's big gaming why we know it speaks
common because it was able to get because it dominated metra oh that's interesting yeah okay
good to know oh wait can i can i speak to it sure you can try i don't think i can roll a diplomacy
check right because i've already used my standard to move action diplomacy is going to count as a
standard yeah yeah yeah that's yeah so you can speak to it but if you can't roll diplomacy you really just
no it's it's metris i'll wait i'll wait till my next one all right oh right you just do kona cold
right or uh whatever ice storm what's your diplomacy bone what's your diploma bone plus
six bone zoning what's your blah blah i'm very i'm very charismatic i'm a plus 11 but i don't
want to waste my turn Trying a diplomacy
Because I want to just shoot it
It's it's turn
I just want to shoot it
And it's going to unleash a full attack
On the team
Let's start with a bite on Baron
That is going to be
A 31
Yeah that's a hit.
What's your AC?
29.
I really wish I had put on that sacred protection.
That's going to be 40 points of damage and 8 fire.
Actually, that's still what a hit with.
We mark my word.
40 points of damage and 8 fire.
8 fire.
Okay.
And then the first claw.
At Baron, too?
Uh-huh.
That's rude.
That is going to be a hit
And that is going to be
30 points of damage
On a claw dude
Second claw
Is a 29
You said that was your AC?
Yes
Second claw is
Oh my god I rolled a D6
And it looks like that square in Union Square
It's like standing on an angle.
I've never seen that before.
And it's funny because it's on the six and the one.
I'll re-roll that for you, Baron.
Thank you.
That is going to be 30, excuse me, 25 points of damage.
Baron is exactly unconscious and dying.
All right, so Baron is zero.
Zero or negative one?
Zero.
Well, I'm standing.
I'm standing.
You're staggered.
I'm telling you, we are negotiating for our lives.
You're at zero?
Zero.
Still standing.
What did you think was going to happen?
No, but he's not at negative one and hitting the ground.
He's woozy.
Oh, and you still have attacks?
Yes, I have multiple attacks.
You're at zero and still standing?
You said you were attacking the party, by the way, and I think you've only attacked me.
What if you... He's taking you out one at a time. Are you sure and still standing? You said you were attacking the party, by the way, and I think you've only attacked me. What if you quit?
He's taken you out one at a time.
Are you sure you're standing?
I mean, I don't know.
Maybe fighting this dragon may have made Baron fall over.
I'm not asking about your flavor idea.
My exact hit points are zero.
All of that, and it brought you to exactly zero.
You sure you did the protection from fire right?
Wait, were you putting fire on any of those?
No, just the first attack had eight
fire.
Did you put the eight on your actual HP?
No. So hold on, but I have
six resistance.
How much fire resistance do you have left?
Well, I'm out now.
You have your protection from elements or whatever.
So I have three points from Matthew and I have six points from my...
I don't know if those stack, though.
Does the protection go out, and then you get...
Probably not.
How does the...
What, it was protection from elements?
We read this before.
I believe that you choose one or the other, or I think that the resistance...
Do you have, like, DR against fire, basically, right?
Yeah. Yeah, so I think that that triggers first which one would just stay at both or just one just stay at zero i don't want to play abacus no no this is worth talking about i know but you're
not keeping track of it i don't think i disabled the fire because i had three points of fire
from him and six points of resistance for me so So I zeroed out the eight points of fire. And those
definitely combine? If they don't
combine, if those two
combine, I'm at zero. If they don't combine,
I'm either at negative
eight points.
So I'm either at negative five
or negative two. Protection from energy, and what
is your thing? Mine is
a judgment of sacred resistance.
They're probably the same.
No, they're different.
Resistance is different from protection.
Resistance is like DR against energy.
So you're at zero.
So it took out the three and then I still
had six points, so it wiped out that eight points?
Protection from energy overlaps
and does not stack.
So I didn't take any of the eight points you gave me.
So if it's only one I should take, then I'm negative.
No, but you shouldn't take any of them.
I shouldn't?
Because they don't stack.
Yeah, you don't take...
No, no, no, you don't take any of the damage.
That is bad for Baron.
I know, but I think that's...
Oh, so they do work together.
Yeah, protection from energy overlaps
and does not stack with resist energy.
If a character is warded by protection from energy and resist energy,
the protection spell absorbs damage until its power is exhausted.
And then a grand resist kicks in.
Yeah.
Well, yeah, because I wiped out the eight.
So, yeah, exactly zero.
You wiped out the eight.
That left you with one that you would take, right?
Because you had six and three is nine.
It was eight fire.
No, so he lost the three and then
he has five or six five oh right right so you didn't take any of right so you're at zero god
okay i think i took everything correctly i think you did too wow it's really going to separate the men from the boys here. This is it.
We'll see you next week.
Oh, no!
Oh, no!
Oh, you motherfucking god! How could we possibly be at that time right now?
You fucking...
That is not right.
That is ridiculous, dude.
Fuck.
I'm staying.
I'm staying.
I hope your gaming room falls down on your head.
And you never enjoy it.
