Last week on the Glass Cannon Podcast.
You hold the fate of Clans Raven and Brandrick in your hands in this moment.
The only question is, what will you choose?
After a parlay with the queen
Perhaps if it was fate
that brought you here
then we will leave the decision
to fate. The heroes put
aside their misgivings
You have my word. Sense move.
And prepared to
confront the king. Alright
I'm ready when you are. I'm ready man.
Spells. Spells. Spells, spells, spells.
But are they walking into a trap?
Open the door.
You open the door?
Open the door.
The adventure continues.
We're back, baby.
We're back, baby!
Now. it doesn't look like there'll be any easing back into this podcast. No dipping your baby toe into a nice warm pool.
Little role play for a few eps.
Maybe some spending gold to upgrade your gear.
And then five or six eps in, get to a possible gigantic life-changing encounter.
Not on this show.
No, no, no.
On this show, we take roughly nine months off
immediately before the hardest fight
in the history of the network.
That's an accurate statement.
It's technically accurate.
I mean, who knows what the dice are going to do?
Who knows if you're going to even get in a fight?
Who knows what is behind this door? I if you're going to even get in a fight? Who knows what is behind this door?
I really want the option to not get in a fight to be possible.
I really want it to be possible, but I feel like no matter what we say or do,
you're just going to be like, no, we're all for an issue.
Well, if Tytarian is behind that door, remember it was Nestor who said,
we just want to negotiate, and she looked him right in the eye and was like,
there is no negotiating with King Tytarian. Not for you, we just want to negotiate. And she looked him right in the eye and was like, there is no negotiating
with King Tartarian. Not for
you folks. Not going to happen.
But maybe he's not behind that door. Maybe
you open the door and it's just a
lovely salon. Okay.
And it's like, would you like to get your hair cut?
Just a bunch of giants.
See, I thought you meant like a salon, like a literary
salon. Yeah, like a 19th century.
Sitting around on chaise lounges and settees discussing everyone's new poetry. Well, I thought you meant like a salon, like a literary salon. Yeah, like a 19th century. Sitting around on chaise lounges and settees discussing everyone's new poetry.
Well, I disagree with Hegel on his primary points.
I do believe his overall thesis has merit.
Is the salon the same as a solar?
No, a solar is a divine being.
No, but like, he'll be resting in the solar.
No, that's just a room in a nice house that has sun like it's like a glassed out patio type of things it's not the salon
no could a salon be a solar yeah yes yes but not all salons you can have a salon in a solar
but yeah but a solar is not necessarily a salon or vice versa. I imagine that would be a selling point.
Like, tonight's salon will be in a solar.
Oh.
They must be rich.
Yeah.
Untold wealth to have both.
For a long time in this office, I felt like we were recording in a solar.
Yeah.
The way the sun pierces through the windows and blinds you to the point of being
unable to see your own computer yeah the one thing uh that actually happened while we were gone is
we had curtains installed um and they look great not that we'll ever record a live stream in here
again but man it's nice to be able to block out that sun. How many years did it take us to get to the curtains?
Two.
Yeah, two and a half years.
Well, two to start planning it.
It is staggering, the curtain situation. It is the most natural one of office planning execution situations because we did all this stuff without curtains.
And then it got so complicated to get curtains because we had to move so much stuff to get them up there yeah because the set's already built right but then we were just so eager
to like get the the a and a stream up and running that we were like oh well it doesn't matter in
the winter because the sun's down by the time we go live anyway but this is going to be a problem
come daylight savings time yeah whatever we'll just roll with it we'll figure it out we got time
and then it was like okay well now this is actually imminent we have to figure it out and as soon as we figured it out and it was like it was daylight savings was
like the next week right and the pandemic hit and like there was no work and we had bought everything
and nothing got installed for eight months while we had already paid for it yeah it was in like
march you were like oh do you want to come in and with me and we'll with the with the with
the builders and what and help them put up the curtains and i was like i don't know if i'm really
comfortable and the cusp of a global pandemic like sitting in close circumstances with three
strangers and you right and then joke was on me as i got coronavirus in two weeks right and none
of them got it yeah uh so we canceled and then they finally got it done
like obviously a matter of weeks before daylight savings was over and we wouldn't have needed it
anyway yeah and they look great they do look great they're all open and they'll be they'll
be useless for a long time by the time we come back in again in 2021, the wall will have fallen off. That does tend to happen in here.
Were you never particular about the color?
Because when we installed the sound paneling in here,
boy, there was discussion of swatching the panels.
I felt like I was choosing my first sofa with my wife.
Yeah.
No, no.
I was asked about the colors, and I really didn't overthink it.
I was like, black is fine.
Black is fine.
The ones I wanted to get were like $45,000.
So I was like, once I realized I couldn't get those, I was like, all right, black.
Troy was like, all right, here's what we could do.
Here's what I want to do.
Bop, bop, skibbity-do.
And then a little skibbity-dop and then a little of this and then scoop-doop-do.
And I'm like, go through this calculator.
And I'm like, that's $9,000 per window.
He's like, all right, black's fine.
Just black out.
Do you have expensive taste for it?
I do.
But, you know, I've always had expensive taste with a champagne wallet.
But I hate spending money at the same time.
Champagne taste with a beer wallet.
Champagne taste with a beer wallet.
What did I say?
Beer taste with a champagne wallet.
I was like, whoa.
You've been holding out on us.
I've been saving up. She does live in westchester that's the best chester i hear
how are the afternoons in the salon i moved it into my salon
wait not now it just doesn't work um yeah no i uh i do have expensive taste but i don't
like spending money so i just like think
about things that i would like and never get them amazing he says presiding over his wormwood tray
that was a gift from my wife and i complain about it constantly
i mean maybe it's good that you don't actually buy them because you do tend to complain about
all of your things.
You know, my wife says I've been doing this a lot more lately.
I have an opinion about everything.
Now you're probably thinking to yourself, Troy, that's not new.
But like everything, I can't eat an apple being like, that apple was terrible.
She's like, can't you just eat it?
Like, it's just an apple.
If you didn't like it, just be like, it's over.
That apple was terrible. Throw them all out. Like, I don't't like it just it's over that apple was terrible throw them all out like i don't know why maybe it's like cut down the tree never eat an apple again but i think
when you get older you just have less tolerance and i already had low tolerance to begin with
that's the thing it's like that's why old people tend towards the grumpy side like you've had an
experience of being ill for you know an extended period of time yeah firm you can't do all the things that you normally could do to make
you happy or relieve stress and so i think that's what happens is you start taking it out on
everything and that's what happens to old people because they're oh their bodies start to break
down and like they just they can't golf or go swing dancing or, you know.
What amazing examples.
Or parachute into Normandy or whatever they did in their youth.
And then they just get mad at everything.
Troy showed this elderly charm to me yesterday.
Matthew saw me for the first time and was like,
Grant, you look great.
And then Troy walked by and went like, you look sick.
You look sick.
It was like that.
It was that fast. There was seconds between.
Troy also didn't wait for a comment.
He just said it and walked right by Grant.
It was the meanest, cruelest thing to do
to somebody who's worked so hard to lose weight.
What's your secret? You overdid it.
We were moving some things around
and Joe was like, we have two people here normally
because this side's heavier and we have one person here
because it's lighter. Why don't you get that side, Grant,
since you lost all your strength?
I did say that.
He's like, come on.
It rubs off.
Sometimes I think about
what would the state of my mind be
if I had never met any of you?
It's weird.
Much healthier, I think.
Yeah, probably.
Probably generally happier.
But you'd probably be more gullible
about all the horrible people in the world.
Yeah.
I like to...
First of all, I appreciate you admitting that you're all horrible.
Oh yeah.
Yeah.
Second of all,
you're not the first horrible people I've ever met.
Yes.
No,
that's true.
You went to college in New York city,
but you spend more time with us though.
I think you,
you probably avoided,
you'd say,
Oh,
that's a horrible person.
I won't spend much time with them.
But now you're forced to spend time with a group of horrible people.
And I only say this because they listen,
but you've said a lot of nasty things about your in-laws.
It's true.
Oh, he just wiped the sweat off of his brow.
And all of them on air.
Right, right.
Both of them on air.
I was looking at old pictures
of like the first Glass Cannon Live,
back when it was GCP Live,
and Matthew has aged the most out of all of us
and it's only because of hanging out with us no i lost a lot of hair because you
look like a youthful boy of 13 at the geekery hq
i want to take a quick second to uh this is my little give me a little give me a little
community corner for a second because we were gone for so long.
We got so much stuff sent while we were gone.
Skip, give me that community corner drop for Joe.
Oh.
It's tricky to go through all the stuff that we got.
There's so many.
That's a transition right there. the stuff that we got. There's so many. That's a good transition.
Good transition.
Yeah, we got so much stuff.
And thank you to everybody that sent us this stuff.
I mean, we got cigar box dice rolling trays.
We got masks.
Books.
Books.
Just amazing stuff.
No beer, though.
No craft beer.
Cookies.
We got cookies.
We got cookies.
I was just going to say it was probably wise to not send beer because you didn't know when we'd be here it would spoil yeah but then people said cookies right
all right well beer would be better than cookies i guess the cookies were walking out the door when
they got mad we walked in on them this is our studio now i thought they installed the curtains
bow to king snickerdoodle anyway i just wanted to highlight one real quick uh that
jumped out to me uh a young man named theo i feel uh living in alfred station new york who is 12
years old oh and listens to our podcast in the car with his dad loves playing role-playing games
and it really jumped out to me because that is when I was at my height of loving role-playing games.
I was 12 years old.
It was my favorite thing to do with my friends.
It was the absolute best, and Theo just started playing and getting into it.
He got the D&D 5e starter set for his birthday and was very excited.
Troy, be nice.
He's 12.
I already stopped my Theo Huxtable jokes I was going to make.
Yeah, yeah.
That wouldn't work.
Anyway, he says, I love your podcast.
I think it's hilarious, though you shouldn't swear so much.
That's at me.
That's at me specifically.
Yeah.
Not at you guys.
He says, my favorite was Lork the Orc, and I wish Feyraz's revive spell worked on him.
I also like Baron, who is a kick-butt gunslinger.
Oh, wow.
That's what they say about him.
And then this is my favorite part.
Well, two favorite parts.
I recently had a dream where I gave you, talking to me,
a 20-sided die where there was another 20 instead of a 1.
So it was a 10% chance of a crit instead of a 5%.
What a great gift.
That's an amazing die.
Way better die than the ones I have.
It's a third-party die. And then he finishes off with probably the best last line I've ever gotten in a great gift. That's an amazing die. Way better die than the ones I have.
It's a third-party die.
And then he finishes off with probably the best last line I've ever gotten in a letter here.
I hope you rip out all the storm tyrant's teeth for killing Lork.
Well done, Theo.
And thank you to Theo's dad, who said he properly gatekeeps which episodes he listens to.
He's a pretty progressive dad. he said very lax in the car yeah to quote his dad chris some of that ergothoa bs would have
prompted questions i was not prepared so great letter guys thank you theo and chris so much and
thank you to everybody that everybody says they were gone thank you everybody yes thank you it
was like christmas morning when we walked in uh let's talk about this show that we're doing here obviously we jumped right back into the fire
and uh it's happening here uh you know that uh big stuff's about to go down and when big stuff
tends to go down on this show uh fortune does not favor the pcs in the past uh let's look back at uh the earth hush fight
for example della i'm gone uh the skier kotla fight pembroke fray rosa gone and now whatever's
behind this door one of these doors is going to lead to the king.
Let's talk about level of fears, level of nervousness.
What are you thinking going in?
You have the floor.
I'm definitely scared.
I just think over this break, I've just been talking with people, like doing on Twitch streams and everything about the characters that I've lost, especially Pembroke.
Like I really miss Pembroke. Like, I really miss Pembroke,
and that's really been brought home over this break.
And so that's all I've been thinking about is the character, like, Galabras and Pembroke
and everything that I've lost,
that we've all lost,
and all, you know, Lork and Della and everybody else.
And so I just, I'm with the mindset
that whenever we go into one of these fights now,
one of us is going to die. I'm just, I'm convinced of mindset that whenever we go into one of these fights now, one of us is going to die.
I'm convinced of it now.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's tough.
I told you guys in my notes to you over the past couple days before we were gearing up, my main note was like, role play like it's the last episode your character will ever be in.
Because you may not get that chance for that story note
that you wanted uh and that's a bummer especially this late into the game but however as we near the
end of this story people are gonna die this story is gonna come to a close it has a much more george
rr martin feel than uh you know the marvel Like, people are gonna drop.
Baron, you have outlived them all.
Where is your level of fear at?
When you live your life by a code,
you treat people fairly, except for the widows of the recently deceased.
And you gain peace with God.
You walk without fear.
That being said, I'm a little scared of this battle.
Well said.
You walk without fear.
Yeah, I'm afraid as well.
I think that my character fear is not very high.
I don't think Dahlgraith is terribly afraid.
He thinks he'll figure out a way.
But personally, yeah, I'm just afraid for the story, how this would all go down, how vulnerable Baron is, how vulnerable Nestor is, and how vulnerable Metra is, and how vulnerable Dalgrith is when they're exposed.
It's a really, really dangerous situation
and Dalgrath, I'll tell you, I think of it very, very tactically. I think we're going to have a
fight. I don't know how fair the fight's going to be, if it really is going to be a stand-up,
dual sort of fight. But in any case, if there is a problem with initiative roles and Dalgrith can't go invisible fast enough,
there's real, real problems.
I mean, he'll be useless in the fight and then, like, such an easy target.
Now, even if he is invisible, he has to be so close to a giant.
And I'm just assuming that the king of the giants, the king of the fire giants,
is going to be the single most insane creature that he's ever fought
and i i you know i talk a lot about this to um adam from order of the ember die who
ran giant slayer talked a great deal about giant slayer and had a tpk late in giant slayer and i
don't know exactly where and i don't know all the details but one of the things that he mentions tactically is that you can't just you can't be next to a giant when they start a full round attack
like even at full health yeah you are at risk of permanent death if you are just even next to them
that's how brutal they are so it really and this is the one thing i like about it and why i do have
a little bit less fear is because it really is the roll of
the dice yeah it really i mean if they crit if they uh hit every attack in a round i mean you
know you're just you're just done i think i'm more scared about baron than anything else to be honest
though can we also point out because sometimes we gloss over mechanics and why things are the way
they are since we've been at this for over 250 episodes,
the reason why a crit from a giant is so dangerous
is because their strength bonus is so insanely high.
And once you have a two-handed weapon
in someone with that strength high,
you're 1.5 times that bonus to the damage.
And when they crit on that
and multiply just the bonus damage to their hit,
that is a lot of HP.
And on top of that, they usually, you know, if they're bosses,
like we assume this is, they have really sweet weapons too
that have other debilitating things.
Throw on power attack.
Right.
And sometimes it's a plus 42 to damage.
That crit, that's plus 84 damage plus the base damage right the weapon and that's if
it's double so if you have a frost giant who's wielding a great axe it's triple if you have a
great sword wielding fire giant it's only double but the crit range is doubled right so a 19 or a
20 is going to crit so yeah it yeah, it's very, very deadly.
Basically, everything could be fine,
and in a heartbeat, somebody could be dead.
That's the way I think of this combat.
I wonder if and when this fight takes place and whatever way it actually happens,
if it's going to be a long fight or a quick fight.
I don't know.
I don't know how it's going to play out. I think I'm as scared as you guys because I want a quick fight. I don't know. I don't know how it's going to play out.
I think I'm as scared as you guys, because I want a great episode.
I've tried to remove my emotional attachment to my monsters, because it makes it a lot easier to GM when I do that.
But I want to make sure it's a great episode while staying within the realm of leaving fate to the dice.
How do you not have an emotional attachment to your monsters, though?
You've got to play them with passion.
Yes.
With heart.
You can do that.
You know what I mean?
You can do that without having an emotional attachment to them.
You can do them their justice, but not—
And then let them go.
And let them go.
The director, I think I've said this on the show before, is like, hold on tightly, let go lightly.
Yeah. Used to say.
If you love a monster, let it go.
It will always find its way back to you.
And then you know it was meant to be.
I haven't heard you say, refer to them as my monsters
since the Gareon fight.
Really?
Don't you jinx me like that, man.
This is a Gareon fight.
Well, it'll be entertaining, I guess.
I remember very specifically you saying, my monsters are a gareon fight well it'll be entertaining i guess but you i remember very
specifically you saying my monsters are my gareon and then in that episode but i don't think i've
heard you say it at all in any of our games wow wow good point can i also say i think we've kind
of talked about this uh and maybe even directly and not obliquely uh i'm afraid of one of us
forgetting about a killer feature of one of
our characters or a magical that's why i was studying mine yesterday just to make sure because
i was so scared but i know we're talking about tactics too a little bit i think nestor would
actually say this is before we go in there and i just want to make sure we should focus fire on
weaker foes get them out of the way as early as we can and get them out of the way and then we can focus on the
big man, whoever it is. That's what I think.
Going in. We can change it on the fly, but
going in, that's what I say.
If anything goes wrong,
Metro steps forward and whispers to the others,
make sure you're close to me.
If we walk into a trap,
stay close to me.
You know, we had a long break after the Queen Clavixia fight before 252 and then recording 253.
And I didn't say this last week, but when I left that episode and drove home, I was like upset.
I was upset because you guys just manhandled her, like you did many of the encounters in book five.
And I think that's part high-level play,
part the way IGM and the way you guys approached Ash Peak.
But I really wanted the queen to be a little more badass.
But Nestor walked in and crit, and then Baron did a crit,
and it was just like I had no chance. and so I was bummed out about that. I don't want to be bummed if you guys go
in and mash the, whatever the final fight of this book is going to be, and a lot of that is on me,
but I'm not going to start adding on hundreds of hit points just to make a fight go longer, or
bumping up ACs out of nowhere, like, that's just not the way i play so i just i hope that
whatever happens it's a it's a great fight and uh whatever is meant to be is meant to be uh before
you jump in though i would say that dog wraith also tactically would would uh mention that once
he's on a creature if you if you know he's latched on especially you baron seeing invisibility and
all make sure you don't spend all your time just killing the creature i'm already on If you know he's latched on, especially you, Baron, seeing invisibility and all,
make sure you don't spend all your time just killing the creature I'm already on.
I can do a massive amount of damage to it, but if you kill it, I'm wasted trying to get to the next creature.
So focus your fire on someone else if it seems like I could take him out and around.
That's something to think about.
Talk to me about the buffs you guys have.
Again, I had you send me an email today.
Let me see if I have these all.
So everyone has protection from energy fire,
which give everyone 120 points of fire damage that they can absorb without taking any hits, right?
You might want to just have a little crib sheet next to you
so you can mark down any time you take fire damage if you do.'s on hero lab yeah oh it is great um protection from evil which gives
you a boost to your ac against evil creatures you can't be touched by summon creatures and
what's the one other thing you get saves boosts saves okay uh metra has mirror image with eight
images so there's nine metros that's obviously going to help metra a lot but
you wonder will that mean everyone else will be the focus of the fire nester has invisibility um
and then baron has weapon of awe and long shot uh long shot doubles your uh range of your gun from
no adds 10 feet to it so i am at a disadvantage compared to when Lawbringer was my gun.
Now that I'm back on Della, amplified as it may be with the Spider, I have a range of only 30 feet, which is, again, to echo the order of the Amber Dye folks Joe was referencing earlier, a huge difference in a fight with the Giant to be able to be 30 feet versus 40 feet away and hit against Touch AC.
For sure. And especially if you want to get up close and deadly it just changes what you
have to do tactically and weapon of awe uh what does that do weapon of awe is going to give me
plus two sacred damage i believe on all of my attacks uh the other spell i tried to cast last
week was wrath which requires you to select a target in order for it to have effect
yes weapon of all transformed a single weapon into an awe-inspiring instrument it wasn't before
the weapon gains a plus two sacred bonus on damage rolls and if the weapon scores a critical hit the
target of that critical becomes shaken for one round with no saving throw. No saving throw.
Let's get down to business here.
I'm going to go ahead and reveal
what is on the other side of this door
and then we're going to have a little chat.
You mean us or the characters?
Let's see what happens. Okay.
First of all, a reveal and
maybe a reaction from the group.
Oh my.
Whoa.
That's a lot of giants. Oh, my. Whoa. Oh, boy.
That's a lot of giants.
You know, I'm not too surprised.
I was thinking, I imagined this.
A long table, a bunch of giants sitting at it, fancy dinner.
And in order to have that for giants, the room would have to be enormous to have a long table with a dozen giants sitting at it.
You open the door to yet another massive cavern that seems to have been created by a river
of magma long ago that drained and cooled, leaving a long, broad tunnel of rippled stone.
You see several giant-sized stone tables
lined up in a row, running the whole length of the chamber.
At the far end is an enormous throne
decorated with armored skulls, weapons, flames, dragons.
Beyond the tables, against the far back wall,
you see two more regal-looking thrones,
grand seats decorated with gems and gold inlays.
Beside those thrones in the back
stands a pedestal bathed in flames,
illuminated by flames,
which seems to be holding some sort of weapon in it.
Seated around the table are several different giants, as well
as some other strange creatures.
You see two frost giants,
two fire giants,
a hill giant, a pair of those
temple priests you've already run afoul
of, a cobalt-skinned
female fire giant
with fiery hair and a huge
pair of red wings
sitting next to the queen on the far left side of the table.
Wow.
A handful of bronze-skinned creatures your size
with a flaming mane of hair surrounding their heads
sitting on dwarven chairs atop a platform
so that they can be eye-level with everyone else at the table.
A show of respect, no doubt, for these visitors.
Oh, and an enormous, muscular, demonic-looking creature.
Standing around the table are three fire giants.
You see two on each side, one in the back.
They look like royal guards.
Resplendent, in far fancier armor
than you've seen thus far on the fire giants that you've mashed throughout Ashpeak.
So Netrock is here.
I had no doubt whatsoever when you had the queen say, it's usually two or three, that there were three.
I was like, can you just say there's three?
Can you just say there's three?
Like, what are you going to say, two or three?
It actually does depend.
Sometimes he has two, sometimes he has three.
You win this round.
Gotcha.
What else is in this room?
Oh, let's talk about the person sitting at the head of the table.
Sitting at the head of the table on the opposite side from where you're standing
is an awe-inspiring, incredibly regal-looking fire giant.
Head ablaze with a crown atop his head.
You know, let me just go through what some of these creatures look like with the old Roll20 Shift Z.
I'll start with the queen again, just because it's always fun to see her.
Love this
image. So badass.
Really cool. Really great. Sitting next to her
that's what the
kobold skinned. That's the daughter.
Gotta be the daughter, right?
Look at that long tail.
She's got wings and
golden armor and
fire giant. A female
fire giant.
What is that? She's got a pair of curved Golden armor and fire giant, a female fire giant.
What is that?
She's got weapons.
She's got a pair of curved spiked shields.
That's what it is.
It's spiked shields.
Wow.
Then you see a frost giant.
That's cool art.
Female.
That is cool art. Across the table, a male frost giant.
Classic.
Saw a lot of those in scare guard whoa check out
that hill giant isn't that great that is great i mean a hill giant to be in this room yeah it's
gotta be it must be the most respected hill giant in the history of hill giant doesn't she look like
an opera singer she does she looks wagnerian uh then of course the priest that you've already uh
had to deal with let's go to the other side of the table.
I showed you the male frost giant.
Let's start with these creatures that are your size.
Yeah.
Fire dwarves or something?
What?
Got fiery hammers.
One looks like that.
Whoa.
Aren't those cool?
And then here's that giant-looking demon creature i was talking about he uh he worries
me it looks like tim curry in legend oh yeah it does or dave grohl in that uh tenacious d video
oh yeah uh and then let's take a look a little zoom in look at the king
that act seems like it's cause for
alarm.
I don't mean to correct you, Matthew, but that is
a halberd.
Oh my god, he's got reach beyond the normal reach.
It's nasty.
I mean, is that art not just
phenomenal?
Really good, really scary.
To give you some perspective,
the blade
of the halberd which
is less than half the weapon the blade of the halberd is is the size of a toyota highlander
presumably the size of an suv it's enormous uh the the artist who did all of the main monsters
and cover art and a lot of the inset art for Giant Slayer,
a guy by the name of, and I'm probably butchering his name.
I need to ask.
Dave Smith.
Jesper Edgsing.
I'm definitely butchering the last name.
E-J-S-I-N-G.
The guy is phenomenal.
And this is the kind of work that he does.
He did Grenzelbeck.
He did Urethage.
All of them.
Skirkotla.
That artwork.
That's the coolest fire giant artwork I've ever seen.
It's really, really good.
The way his hair actually looks like it's on fire in a kind of, it's weird to say this,
but in a regular way is really cool.
It's just glowing all around his face.
It's really neat.
Absurdly badass.
all around his face.
It's really neat.
Absurdly badass.
You walk in, and they're all eating dinner,
and they all simultaneously drop their flatware,
clink, clink, clink, clink,
and turn their heads towards you.
The giant at the end of the table leans back in his chair,
dabs at the corner of his mouth with a napkin,
and looks at the three of you,
of course, since Nestor is invisible,
with fire in his eyes.
As much as I have the utmost confidence
in my defenses here,
I'd be lying if I thought we'd never
meet.
What should I call
you, huh?
The masters of the
Mindspins?
The scavengers of
Scearguard?
Your reputation
most certainly precedes
you.
He turns to his guests.
He says, I apologize for this intrusion,
but believe me when I say you picked a most opportune time to behold the awesome might of Clan Brandrick in action.
If tonight does not convince you of an alliance,
then, my most esteemed guests, nothing will.
For standing before you are the murderers of Urafash, High Priest of Mindohol,
the slayers of Skirkartla, the immortal Jarl, and former queen of the Skirkalling tribe of Frost Giants.
These are but a few of their accolades.
Unlike the rest of the small folk who will cower
and be crushed under the might of the Storm Tyrant's army
as it marches across Galarian,
these three have breached the very defenses of my great stronghold here at Ashbeak.
He slams his fist on the table.
I will forgive you that transgression for the opportunity you are providing me here.
Who are you really?
And what do you have to say before we end this once and for all?
I'm Baron Ashpeak, King Tytarian.
This is Nestor Coyne.
Don't! Don't!
Oh!
We're so stuck!
Take that back.
He puts his arm around him.
What are you doing?
You fucking moron.
You fucking twat.
What are you doing?
I mean, introduce your coin.
Pointing at dogs.
Because he can see invisibility, so it's like he forgets.
He points at the temple priest.
I'm in him.
You're doing a support, right?
We had an inside man. That's our fifth columnist over there. Get him,. I'm in him. You do the support, right? We had an inside man.
That's our fifth columnist over there.
Get him, Nestor.
Get him.
I'm sorry.
I misspoke.
Dalgrin Deathbringer and Metra Narn are my accompaniment this evening.
King Tytarian, I offer you greetings from the small people of the world.
I offer you greetings from the small people of the world.
As the chief defender and sheriff of True Now, modern day descendant of the Ash Peak clan,
an heir by blood to this mountain, I offer you two options.
Negotiation between our people to work towards a peaceful and auspicious future.
With our, let me finish, God damn it.
With our citizens working hand in hand so that all may prosper.
Or a gruesome death which we will administer with no pleasure but extreme prejudice.
I'll have your head on a plate or your signature on a treaty.
One of those two things will happen today.
It's your choice, bucko.
Leans back in his chair, folds his arms, looks right at you.
You're a mile and a half away at the end of the table.
It's like that scene in Batman when Bruce Wayne and Vicki Vale go on a date.
It's like, did you pass this off?
He's like, Ash Peake.
Oh, yes.
We know all about you.
The great oracle of the mountain, perhaps the very oracle who spoke to your now gone people long ago,
spoke often to my queen, he looks at Quivixia, of you.
I learned early on not to question my wife's devotion,
so we prepared for you and your elite fighting team, Ashpeak.
Yet here you stand.
How fitting for you to return to your ancestral home, the last living Ashpeak, to die where your forebears were wiped out by our kind a generation ago.
If only you had arrived at Ash Peak before us. You could have marveled at the dwarven craftsmanship of your ancestors,
gathered the treasures they left behind,
and for once in your miserable life perhaps learned who you really are.
But we got here first, dwarf We destroyed your temples
Raised your monuments
Used your treasures to fuel our war effort
And most importantly
Took your ancestors' armors and weapons
to forge them and make them useful to us.
You see that weapon that your hand is struggling to hold
as your fate becomes clear to you?
We found many like it deep below the mountain.
I had only heard of them in legend yet now.
They were in our possession, along with notes and blueprints on how to create them.
The Storm Tyrant was quite pleased when I shared all this with him.
And as a token of his appreciation, we were allowed to keep what we found,
which we then melted down, reshaped, and forged in fire
to ensure Clan Brandrick's dominance forever.
From the back of the room,
Tytarian's captain, most likely.
He's dressed differently than the other two.
Steps forward.
He's wearing sick-looking armor.
Is this Hagen?
Might be Hagen.
It's got to be Captain Hagen.
Armor looks to be relatively newly forged.
He steps over to the pedestal of fire in the back.
He doesn't pull out the weapon that you can see from there,
but he reaches his hand in and pulls out something else.
A giant gun.
Oh, what?
Captain Hagen here appropriately called it World's End.
Perhaps we can take
what you've got there from your lifeless hand,
melt it down,
and give it to my slag giants
so that they may add to its power.
He snaps his fingers
and the fire giant guards start moving the tables out of the way, and the guests arrange themselves along the side walls.
Tytarian stands up, cracks his knuckles in his back, and you hear the sound echo throughout the room.
Throughout the room.
I think they call that a Freudianian slip if there ever was one he looks over at the two other
fire giants who were sitting at the table with him they're now backing up towards the wall and
he's like jothers oh dear leah you have always served me well though you may wish to do me honor by joining in to this inevitable battle, I order you to stay back.
I'll have a fair fight.
Three versus three.
Myself, Captain Hagen, and Lieutenant Nutrock.
The frost giantess speaks up
Also backing towards the wall
My liege
They have a fourth
Great
There is a man standing with a bow trained on you
Invisible over there
A human
He snarls and looks
in the blank space
where Nestor Coyne is. Who says this?
The Frost Giantess.
Ah.
Thank you, Mija.
I should have known.
That trickery
may have worked elsewhere in Ashpeak,
but it will fail you
here.
Four versus four, then.
Lieutenant Slesbog,
you're up as well.
You're in.
My royal guard versus the four of you.
Know this, small folk.
I will give your heads to Volstice,
but out of respect for your martial prowess, I will return your heads to Volstice, but out of respect for your
martial prowess, I will return
your bodies to the ground.
All but the human.
They will be eviscerated.
Just know this,
Tytarian.
You should see Skid's face.
What'd I do?
Just know this, Tytarian.
I may have been by birth given the legacy of this place.
In name, I may be an ashpeak, but I was raised a red heart.
And I spread the legacy of the red hearts to all the small folk who've seen us defeat your people one by one.
You talk about giving a great display to these diplomats?
We've already let them know that we can beat you.
And even if we fall here,
the rest of us will fall on you like a grim wave
and we'll take away everything you have ever stolen from us
because you can't build shit.
And you ain't worth more than a pile of it.
Does anybody else say anything?
Yeah, Dogwrath will step up.
If I may,
your grace,
it is,
as my friend Baron here says,
well, and I should say it to all of you,
we're just the tip of the spear, the edge of the knife.
There's a great weapon building in the world you intend to take over, and we'm afraid to tell all of you.
The great plans of your Volstis storm tyrant king.
And the plans of this king you have here who wants to dominate all of you.
They don't have a hope to work, I'm afraid.
Ah, kill us if you like.
Beat us down.
The plan's not gonna work.
Go ahead, try to tame the orcs of Belkson.
I've seen them fight myself.
They stood in the plaza at the Great Wall.
In the Great Plaza!
Let an army of them come after me.
And here I stand.
And plenty of them fell.
All against one.
Not to mention that they can't organize amongst each other for a moment.
Oh, but you see, we got the dragons.
We'll bring the dragons along to fly throughout the world and dominate those small folk.
Well, I'm happy to tell you that there's just as many good dragons out there as bad.
And once you start to escape these mountains,
the wizards of the world will bring the good dragons down upon you as well.
There is many flaws to your thinking here.
You might be better served trying another way.
Trying another leader.
And he's looking around at all the other side, It might be better served trying another way, trying another leader.
And he's looking around at like all the other side, you know, the demon and the smaller fire people that kind of look like dwarves and shit like that.
Just trying to sow some seeds of distrust.
So I guess my point is, even if we die and you think, oh, well, we've got the dragons, we've got the orcs,
and now we'll go through into near Mithos and Malthoon.
Well, perhaps you forgot that near Mithos and Malthoon are in a decades-old Cold War.
All they've been doing is raising their armies,
caches of weapons,
building each other up without actually using any of it.
And they'll die by the thousands fighting here, yeah.
The tens of thousands, maybe.
But they'll never stop fighting.
And they'll kill every last one of you.
So,
either you get a new leader and a new
plan, or you start
getting some sense into you and talking to us.
Thank you,
Your Grace.
I speak
Medraceps forward
to the others in the room now
the king is right
it is a most auspicious occasion that you are here
to witness
King Tytarian's
folly
for note that we offered him peaceful terms
and he rejected them outright.
And his fate
may yet be yours.
Does Nestor say anything?
Is it invisible?
Yeah.
Now that his cover's been blown?
He's still invisible.
Yeah, he's just like,
I'll bleed out you fucking wankers.
And fires.
Roll for initiative!
All right!
Roll for initiative!
Wait a minute.
I am more scared now than at the start of the episode.
Why?
I just am, now that it's actually happening.
I'm like, oh, wait a minute.
This is messed.
Now that Nessar can be seen by this frost whatever.
She's not funny.
Oh, well, shit.
Holy shit.
I just rolled three natural 20s in a row for initiative.
Three natural 20s and a 16.
Sense motive.
It's not a lie. I did three nat 20s and a 16. Sense motive. It's not a lie.
I did three nat 20s with my crystal blue.
I was going to go with neon green tonight.
But when I walked into the studio,
I rolled it and the 20 came up and I was like,
don't want to waste it.
Oh, man. Well,
there it went.
Three nat
20s. But you guys probably have higher initiative bonus yeah but not well
i don't know i roll terrible terrible how terrible what did you get dal griffin uh i got a 19 19
nester coin uh nester got a 24 24 for for Nestor. Metronom.
25.
25 for Metro.
What is your initiative bonus?
Plus nine.
Plus nine.
All right.
And what about Baron?
22.
Low roll, Baron?
Yeah, seven.
Not awful, but it's below optimal.
For sure.
This is happening.
Oh, God. not not not awful but it's below optimal for sure this is happening we're doing this i first of all want to give a huge shout out to our good buddy mr david winters uh who helped
create captain hagen for me uh we've been going back and forth a little over a week uh making him
as awesome as he is and uh i'm pretty excited i have a guess have a guess out there uh musketeer
is an archetype used on this guy oh interesting guess we'll find out like they're digging your
grave i can't also notice that the map has suddenly changed. Yeah, there's some occlusion happening.
There's a cold front.
They move the tables out of the way.
They shove the tables out of the way.
Yeah.
So I just laid some tiles on top to make it.
So it's all just open space.
It's all wide open space.
I love the thought of like,
it's like we're giving these speeches
that like grinding these chairs and tables
across the floor.
And I'll tell you another thing.
So I see the king just want to i just want to clear up who's who in the room right and then we've got a frost giant over on the west side that's uh lieutenant one of the lieutenants no
no so the two fire giants that are everyone on the wall i mean yeah uh you got a lieutenant um
to the left a lieutenant to the right uh this would be Captain Hagen also to the right side of the table.
And then, of course, the king in the back.
It is Captain Hagen's turn.
The king who is starting roughly 145 feet away from you.
Why am I in the front?
Yeah, you guys, you know, I just placed you in the room.
I will say you can rearrange yourselves the way you would like right now um because you guys didn't move into the room so i just dragged you
over just stay within that area there i'll stay in the back yeah i will too i'll move to the back
perfect it's in a weird uh kind of 45 degree diagonal unlike a lot of our maps so it just
feels strange looking at it but uh well it's nice to die in a
strange place i think the captain has a gun and he's ready for fun he is oh let's see as the crew
flies 135 feet away from baron who is standing at the head of the group. As well he should be. He's a badass.
He just delivered all those sick speeches.
Alright,
so you're out of, let's see,
one, two, three
of my range increments, I guess.
Yeah, you're out of, that'd be
a minus six
to its attack. Let's throw on
rapid shot, like the former
Baron Ashpeak
used to do before his untimely death
in episode 253.
Is Hagen a time traveler
as well? You know, I guess I'll put on
old deadly aim as well
just to see
what's going to happen here.
Let's start taking
some shots!
I can't believe you put a gun in here.
At the gun sligger.
I didn't put the gun in here.
Granted.
Fair enough.
So many emails ago.
So many emails ago.
2015.
This has been cooking.
All right.
First attack is going to be.
God, I got so much math I have to do here.
This is against flat-footed AC, regular AC.
I didn't put Deadeye on.
That's a gunslinger thing.
I don't want to bore you guys with all my gunslinger deeds.
Oh, my God!
He's a level 14 gunslinger!
All right, that is going to be a 22 against flat.
That is a miss.
Miss on the first attack. Other question. Am I able, before my turn, to be a 22 against flat. That is a miss. Miss on the first attack.
Other question.
Am I able, before my turn, to enact a swift action?
It's been so long since I've played.
Can you do a swift when you're flat-footed?
No.
You can also only do it on your turn.
Correct.
Okay, got it.
Remembering.
Perfect.
Back in the game.
Back in action.
I think the question is, can you do an immediate action when you're flat-footed?
Right.
And I believe the answer to that is no.
Second shot misses as well.
Okay.
Natty Four on the die.
I can't wait until you jam your gun!
Natty Four is not a misfire with you?
No.
Oh, wow.
No, he misfires on a one and a two with this particular gun.
Jeez.
This is brutal.
Two misses.
Does he have alchemical Johns and everything?
He does have alchemical Johns.
He'll just reload real fast.
I do this thing called rapid reload,
which is pretty sweet.
I don't want to bore you with gunslinger things.
Do you know guns crit times four?
Quick cue, quick cue.
How can he can use alchemical cartridges
and doesn't expand the threat range of his...
Because isn't that what happens
when you use alchemical cartridges? You expand the threat range of jamming the weapon't that what happens? When you use a chemical cartridge,
you expand the threat range of...
Jab me!
The weapon!
You do.
It goes from a one to a two.
Okay.
Pistol is a one.
It goes to a two.
Pistol is normally one to three, I think,
or one to four.
All right.
And then you reduce it to three.
Listen, you tell that to David Winters.
And...
And Archives of...
He's not here!
And our lives are on the line!
No, pistol's a one.
It doubles to two.
So, here we go.
Plus, this thing has so many properties on it,
it would make your head spin.
Is this your third shot?
Yeah, I got four with rapid shots.
Four shots, right?
But my chances are going down here.
I don't like that, that the first two missed.
I thought one of those would hit.
It did not.
All right, here we go.
That might be the 124 against flat. Miss.
Whoa!
This is like a duel.
This is a duel. Imagine he just
pulled this up. Boom!
I do need to
clarify, though. It is a hit if he is not a
giant subtype. Is he a giant subtype?
He's very much of the giant subtype.
He's Captain Hagen the Giant, after
all.
He's known amongst his people's Captain Hagen the Giant, after all. Okay.
He's known amongst his people as Captain Hagen the Giant.
Oh, what a kick in the wiener to miss.
Well, I got one more shot, but I imagine it's got to be a nat 20.
Lowest chance to hit.
Come on, nat 20.
I wasted them all on initiative.
No, that is not even above a 20.
These guys are just like, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
They all hit the back wall.
Kicking up cave dust.
I actually brought a human diplomat in the back with a smoking pipe who just watched that and went, impressive.
Most impressive.
Most impressive.
Captain Hagen takes four shots.
Just boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
They all fucking missed. Classic Pulp F four shots. They all fucking
miss. Classic Pulp Fiction moment.
And now it is Metra's turn.
My worst nightmare.
Okay.
Metra is, given that there's a gun
in the fight, Metra is going to cast Particulate
Form on all of us. Yes.
Talk to me about Particulate Form again.
All of our bodies turn into
we're composed of now countless particles
that separate and reconnect to remain whole,
so we all gain fast healing.
Two, we are immune to bleed, critical hits,
sneak attacks, and other forms of precision damage.
Oh, huge.
And for how long?
This will be for 14 rounds.
Oh, wow.
This might go 14.
So any of you, if any of you're in trouble, you remember you can dismiss
the effect as a swift action.
You'll immediately regain 5d6
hit points. But you
lose all of the immunities. Oh, I'll definitely do
that. Okay.
And then with the quick and metamagic rod,
I got so many choices
here. Hold on a second.
The quick and metamagic, just to keep you honest, that has three uses a day? Yes, I got so many choices here. Hold on a second. The quick and metam... Just to keep you honest, that is...
Has three uses a day?
Yes, I've used one.
Okay, so we got two left.
Two left.
Okay.
Yikes!
Uh...
Make sure you save one, because this isn't, like, the final combat.
I know.
Uh, okay.
Oh, man.
The rod!
I'm just kidding.
This is the final combat.
Use it.
So then, uh, Metro will then use the quick and metamatic rod.
Oh, I have so many ideas.
Dude, I would not play anymore.
If I was a 14th level sorcerer, I'd be like, I quit.
See ya.
Yeah, I can't.
Looking at that slate of choices.
Well, you know what, though?
Okay, yo, because you can't.
You just cast spontaneously, right?
So you can play any spell.
Anything, yeah.
And the added weight that, like, if you're wrong, we all die and it's on you, that's just a lot of pressure.
Yeah, that is a lot of pressure.
Thanks, Joe.
Yeah.
This is a monumental decision you're about to make, is what he's saying.
Well, I hope you enjoy this one, because I'm going to cast deeper darkness on Baron.
Oh!
On his armor.
All right.
Now, what is the radius on that?
60-foot radius.
Oh!
60-foot radius.
So that's going to put all of you in darkness.
But it also, you guys are affected by it as well.
We all have darkness.
We all have darkness, except Nestor.
But deeper darkness.
I thought we cleared this up, that Nestor has the goggles or something.
He does not.
Jimmer has the goggles.
Oh, okay.
Spell function is darkness, except that objects radiate darkness as a 60-foot radius,
and the light level is lowered by two steps.
Bright light becomes dim, normal becomes darkness.
So it is darkness over there.
Areas of dim that wasn't dim functions like darkness, but creatures with...
Ah!
Key sentence.
This functions like darkness, but even creatures with dark vision cannot see
within the spells. Oh, right, yeah.
You don't want deeper darkness, you just want darkness.
Yeah, okay, regular darkness it is.
So that's 20 feet. That still might complicate things
a lot for Nessar, but 20 feet's good.
20 feet. I just want to,
like, for this round, while we have to,
they're probably going to go first,
I want to create any chance, like, any...
Make us invisible.
Make us invisible for as long as possible.
I love it.
And it fits Metris so well.
Yeah.
So regular darkness.
Regular darkness.
Okay.
All right.
So that will affect both of us.
But you do, you basically created this cloud in there.
And so can they not even target you because they can't see you?
Correct.
Right, they have to run up in there and get busy.
Well, it is King Tytarian's turn,
and he is very upset that Captain Hagen has embarrassed him
by missing all four shots.
That was really embarrassing.
I can also barely see him at the other edge of the map at 37 zoom this is how big
this room is i know i'm way too far zoomed out to uh have this be enjoyable that's so funny grant i
am exactly at 36 zoom looking at the fight because he is that's the yeah he's all the way in the
other quarter zoom bros uh all right run allows you to what? Move four times your speed?
Yeah.
Okay.
Good thing they moved those tables.
And are we counting these as diagonals right now?
Because we're going...
This is so confusing.
Yeah, just use the...
This is set up to Pathfinder, the map.
So if you use the arrow thing, it should be...
Yeah, it is correct.
So this is what King Tytarian is going to do.
He is going to run at you.
Full speed.
Like a f***ing boss.
I have to put my finger on the screen just so I can remember where 120 feet is, and then slide the king over.
He runs directly at you, letting out a war cry as he does.
Halberd in hand.
So now with that run, that's a full round action, right?
Yes.
Okay, he has now closed the distance considerably.
He's right at the edge of the darkness, 20 feet away from Baron.
Wow.
Yeah.
But Baron is in darkness.
It is Nestor Coyne's turn.
Okay.
So can I see objects that are outside of the darkness, even if I'm standing in the radius of it?
No.
Yeah. I'm always very confused
about that particular yeah fine point like if i'm in a completely dark room and someone's standing
outside in a lit room i can see them all right looks like here yeah this makes sense while you're
in darkness you're blinded you're effectively blinded but you gain the concealment from being
in darkness right see this is the problem with waiting nine months, because I have dark vision as a spell that lasts for hours.
So if I had known that, I would have buffed Nestor before we went in.
And I was thinking about the goggles, because Jimmer had them.
And I was looking at it yesterday, and I was like, oh, I don't.
But then today, I forgot.
And I was thinking, I had dark vision, and I don't.
And this is what sucks.
Because if, Nestor knows that.
Like, Nestor wouldn't have gone into this situation and not said anything.
Right, right.
But I don't, I'm not Nestor.
I'm just representing him like a fucking lawyer.
A shitty lawyer.
So, I don't know.
So, now it's just like, this fucks up the whole combat.
Because now I'm blind.
While in this darkness spell.
Right.
Or I expose myself and then I'm completely out in the open and away from Metra or anyone else that can help me.
I think we can all agree it's 100% Matthew's fault, right?
We're putting this all on Matthew.
No, it's at least half Matthew's fault.
I'd say 55%.
The goggles belong to the mountain now.
What does that mean?
This is a tough decision.
Yeah, and it sucks, too.
I mean, this is the boss fight, too.
To make a mistake like that really, really sucks.
I'm sorry, Skin.
It is my fault.
I should have checked.
Shit, I don't know so I mean should we
should we abandon my plan and just
that's the thing too I can't even get
a full check off because I have to move to get out
of this area
so should we
you want to delay
no because I have to move anyway
so because otherwise I can't shoot anything so um i'm kind
of agreeing with the beginnings of what you're saying there about changing tactics to just taking
down the king yeah i mean if he's going to run up here then we might as well but that's the thing
too if he enters the if he enters the sphere to attack you guys then i can't i can't shoot him
anyway it's going to change Metro's turn, basically.
Well, you know, I don't think, the more I think about it, I don't think you guys should be punished for just forgetting about this, thinking you had the goggles.
How long does Darkvision last?
Hours.
Hours.
So I'm not going to punish you for not remembering that.
But know this, I will punish you in other ways.
Don't worry, because I'm sure the fans
will punish us too.
It's one thing to be
like, I really wish I'd cast
such and such. It would have been perfect in
this situation. Right, that's a totally different thing
from just something that you forgot because we haven't
played in nine months.
I'm totally fine with that.
I thank you and I want to say I'm glad you're that. Thank you. Thank you. I thank you.
And I want to say,
I'm glad you're going really hard on those apples and just calling them
bullshit.
Take out your anger there.
Cause I am appreciate it.
I appreciate the apple.
As I told my wife,
I will never get honey crisp apples again.
I felt the same way,
dude.
I got them.
And not only were they a little mealy,
they were a little sour.
I'm back to gala,
dude.
Nothing worse than Amelia.
Macintosh all the way. I had a Macintosh. They were a little sour. I'm back to Gala, dude. Nothing worse than a mealy apple. Macintosh all the way.
I had a Macintosh fresh off the tree this fall that just blew my mind.
I was like, this is one of the most amazing things I've ever tasted.
There's no greater apple.
Don't listen to what anybody tells you.
The best apple is a Granny Smith.
No.
No.
That's the front door of all apples.
It's the best baking apple, and I have yet to have a tartar apple.
Well, if you like tart.
Yeah, exactly. He comes in here and he eats Sour Patch Kids by the dozen.
Of course he's going to like Granny Smith. Your tongue
is ruined. I mean, I will say I actually do
love Honeycrisp, and they are generally not
merely the ones I've had. I've got a bad
batch, I think. I don't want to
assuage and demean all
Honeycrisp apples. I'll tell you this right now. If you want a fresh Honeycrisp,
don't come visit in the LaV they've been banned i'm gonna have to write a letter to thank
those honey crisp apples for this so what level spell are you losing now that changes that's level
two it's a level two spell okay okay uh all right so nester uh that changes things you have dark
vision where this is not deeper darkness you can see him him, he cannot see you. You can see all of them. Right.
Can I do, before I attack,
can I do a knowledge local on those fiery dwarves?
See what their deal is?
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Let me see.
I think it's actually going to be a knowledge planes.
Oh, okay.
I don't know if you have that, but let me just make sure I'm choosing the correct,
almost positive, yeah. Well, let me do a make sure I'm choosing the correct, almost positive.
Well, let me do a Nas Local on the king then, see if there's anything.
Okay.
That is, and I'm studying targets, so that is a 35.
35.
I can give you one piece of useful information.
Isn't it such a weird thing?
You're like, that king.
What do I know about that king?
Did you hear it throughout the...
Well, legends.
Yeah, legends of King Titorius.
Legends or stories.
Right, while hanging out in taverns across the way.
You're like, no, I did hear about the king.
Let me ask you this.
You only get one chunk.
Is there something specific you would like to know around...
this you only get one chunk is there something specific you would like to know a realm um she's something that he can that that that would help us protect be protected against
something that he does something that he a special attack that he has that we could avoid okay um or a weakness if that isn't the thing right i mean this dude gives me a headache
looking at how much shit he has um so i want i want to really help you out here because
this is already harder hard enough all right he has a special power that allows him to make an attack of opportunity
against a foe that moves
into any square
threatened by him, regardless
of whether or not that movement would normally provoke
an attack of opportunity.
Move into any square. So basically
if anyone tries to get near him, he gets an attack of opportunity.
Whoa. That's truly
awful.
Okay, so
you just see something in his gate
or heard something about him in the past.
I think it's more with Nestor because the study target,
yeah, there's just something about him,
like studying him.
It was just like I can see something
in the way that he moves or carries himself
that I would guess that.
His archetype.
I don't know why everyone isn't building this archetype.
I've never heard it. I'm sure some of you have. Of what he is. Of what class. I'm't know why everyone isn't building this archetype. I've never heard it.
I'm sure some of you have of what he is.
Of what class?
I'll tell you next time.
Okay.
So Nestor shouts that out in Galarian terms.
And I am going to study target, and I'm going to do a full attack.
First off, many shots.
Come on.
Ooh, okay. That is 37 to do a full attack. First off, many shots. Come on. Ooh, okay.
That is 37 to hit.
37 hits.
Okay.
37 just hits.
I'll be like.
Just scrapes back.
No!
That's 59 points of damage.
Oh, that's that many shot, too.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
With sneak attack?
With sneak attack. So, attack so okay so second attack
uh that now you're technically visible even though yeah yeah my invisibility is dispelled
but i'm still in darkness so you still get the sneak attack right um yes yeah actually yeah oh
that's true okay so second attack is that is is a 36. 36 is a hit.
Okay.
And let's see.
That is another 33 points of damage.
Okay, and this is all regular physical?
That is four points of electricity seven seven total points
of electricity
okay
okay
and
final attack
the one that always misses
yep
and misses
uh
twenty
okay
hell of a
hell of a start though
yeah
against the king
chip it away dude
you gotta do it
jeez
the bold king
who rushed into battle
it is baron
ashbeak's turn.
Baron will take a five-foot step backwards.
He's currently 20 feet as the crow flies away from the king.
He wants to make sure that that is not within
probably a freaky giant's range.
Freaky giant.
Takes that five-foot step back, does a swift action,
raises his hands to the heaven through this mountain's crust and says,
Torek, it is time now to stand against the forces of Zersvater.
Lend me your strength.
Lightning crackles through his armor as he is given a judgment of sacred protection.
Awesome.
He's such a hero, dude.
You better live.
You better live.
I would like to.
I know Matthew's trying to kill us all, but you better live.
And he will unleash a full attack action against the king.
Hopefully he doesn't have
bullet protection. If you crit
three times, you can just kill him.
Round one. Question for you.
If the creature has low light vision
or dark vision,
can he see you? Yeah.
Yes. Okay. So no sneak
attack damage. He has
dark vision? He would have
taken sneak attack on the first one because Nestor was invisible.
Right.
Yeah.
King Tytarian has dark vision?
That changes things.
No shit!
You can ballpark it.
What is your sneak attack damage?
It's 46.
Okay, so the first one would have went through, and the second one?
Yeah, first one went through through and then the third one would
probably have been we'll say six 46 okay uh so not a lot but uh he can see you yeah so take that
into account baron you're hitting you're going against touch ac and beautiful 18 on the die
that's a 34 against touch ac that is a hit okay uh giant sub, just confirming. Oh, yeah. You get your dice together?
What did you think we were doing tonight?
Just confirming.
It's been so long since this has happened.
I know, I know.
Since we've had to kill time while Grant picks up individual dice.
All right, thank you, Joe.
That will be a total of 30 points of damage.
Okay, and what kind of damage is this? Is it all piercing?
Piercing, bludgeoning.
Piercing, bludgeoning, both at the same time.
Magic for the purposes of
DR.
What else do I have?
It's bane damage is the bonus
damage.
Okay.
It is fire forged steel, which doesn't come into
account now, but if it were to take enough
points of damage with fire I could shoot fire
back out of it
sure he takes fire damage I'm sure
sure
it's just piercing and bludgeoning
yes correct
long story short
second attack here it comes
natural one
oh I knew it was coming I knew it was coming.
I knew it was coming.
Here's the other thing, because I've had some people come out against me.
I don't lie about my fucking dice rolls.
Can it end right now?
No, but it can end next week.
Oh, no!
Dude, we need to know if he confirms, man.
You've got to confirm next session.
That's fucked up.
Oh, Valley, that's messed up!
