Hey, how did your doctor's appointment go, by the way?
Did you ask about Rebelsis?
Actually, I'm seeing my doctor later today.
Did you say Rebelsis?
My dad's been talking about Rebelsis.
Rebelsis? Really?
Yeah, he says it's a pill that's...
That's right.
Did you know it's also covered
by most private insurance plans?
Well, I'll definitely be asking my doctor
if Rebelsis is right for me.

You are listening to the Glass Cannon Network, the premier source for role-playing game entertainment
last week on the glass cannon podcast and in my head cannon uh baron has the butt of his gun in
will's back that lines up with my head cannon too. All right, so we're all on the same page. As an aerial assault emerged from the clouds.
You hear the flapping of wings and the loud scream of an avian creature as piercing through the clouds is an enormous bird with a resplendent giant atop its back.
The sorcerer unleashed a trap.
Metricast maze on the bird.
Okay.
And in the presence of the gods, an ally returned.
If you could help us bring this warrior of justice and goodness back, we have a chance.
All we need is one good chance, Renfall.
The truth will always out in the presence of the gods.
But your friend, what ailment has befallen him?
To liberate the paladin from madness. He reaches down, his hand starts to take up the entire room as he washes over all of Sir Will in Lexington and casts Heal to remove it.
Oh, yeah!
The adventure continues.
The fate of Zip-A-Hole lies in your hands.
But let's be honest, the fate of the world lies at your feet.
And the final battle is close now. Good morning, or good afternoon, or good evening, or whenever the fuck you listen to this show.
Welcome to episode 315 of the Glass Cannon Podcast.
A couple of us, including myself, are a little under the weather,
as you can tell from my sexy fuck-me voice.
But that's not going to stop us from giving you 45 minutes of action.
I mean, max.
45 minutes. Absolute tops
30 of which is going to be bantering
Talking about us being sick
Can we just give you text to read in your husky voice?
The human torch was denied
A bank loan
I mean this is a great opportunity
For a reel if there ever was one
joe you were what were you saying that like when you were in the vo world people would book more
often than when they were sick because they'd have this yeah you're an oski voice yeah i mean
over a long period of time you get a sample size large enough like you can definitely identify
times that actors got a job because they were getting over a cold or had a
cold because in those days when you had a cold you just still went everywhere and coughed in
everyone's face uh and so they would actually book work and then there were times and this only
happened like under five times in my career where people be like he does not sound like he did in
the audition like we need to and being sick was never discussed it would just be like, he does not sound like he did in the audition. Like we need to – and being sick was never discussed.
It would just be like we need to move on from this person.
Men, women didn't matter because women too, they would, you know,
get dropped down, get a little sultrier.
They'd book a perfect commercial gig and then their voice would go back to normal.
Be like, damn it.
I was actually just –
It's an exciting time.
Coming over – getting over a cold and what it does to your voice, it's great. damn it. I was actually just coming on after coming
over and getting over a
cold and what it does to
your voice.
It's great.
Yeah.
Cause you feel good,
but your voice isn't back
yet.
Yeah.
Just love talking when
that happens.
Talk as much as I can.
There's also always that
moment I find when I lose
my voice that I'm like,
there's like a J half a
day or so where I'm like,
I'm never going to speak
again.
I'll never be able to make real sounds ever again.
Yeah.
Believe it or not, this is the best I've sounded in four days.
I believe we flew back from Richmond and I was seated across from Grant and Matthew in the poor section of the plane.
Which you so rarely have to sit in these things.
I was slumming it.
You face yourself by sitting in.
Once I knew what the snack options were in first,
I went to Comfort Plus with the pause.
And Grant, I think, said one word to me.
Grant was in a very good mood.
And I couldn't even respond back because my voice was so bad.
And then as we got off the plane—
I turned to you and I said the following,
Troy, I'm going to be a good passenger because I have flight anxiety now because you and Matthew are in here.
I don't want to embarrass myself.
And you went—and it looked like your lungs were trying to escape your mouth.
They're trying to crawl and i turned you
right before as we were taxiing and i said we don't have to hold hands but i'd like it
and then you went take it one more you seemed like you were doing okay grant it seemed like
you were managing i put my hand on the headrest in front of me at a certain point i saw that like
i noticed that this and to kind of squeeze on it. And I thought that was pretty good.
Otherwise, I was no selling it.
Matthew and I.
There was no one sitting in front of Grant, though.
He didn't, like, weirdly massage someone's head.
There was no one in the seat.
Yeah, Matthew and I and the flight attendant that was laughing at you all saw that.
But I was expecting more of a freakout the way you warned me in advance.
You did very good.
It's internal.
And, you know, unlike most men born in the 20th century, I'm okay talking about what goes on inside of me.
Sure.
Or who?
What?
Got it! But, yeah, yeah, no, it's a fun time of year. got it but uh
yeah yeah
no it's a
it's a fun time of year
you can't just get sick anymore
without assuming
you got it
you got the stuff
but
yeah it's a
it's a weird time
and we're gonna
we're gonna get through this
and there may be
there'll be an episode
next week
maybe not
we'll see
we got a lot going on
I'm under a lot of pressure
right now
to perform when it's very it was hard to get out of bed the last three days week maybe not we'll see uh we got a lot going on i'm under a lot of pressure right now uh to
perform when it's very it was hard to get out of bed the last three days uh but everybody's doing
well i did want to talk about one thing banter wise i'm not going to go to the episode because
i don't want to play but uh understood understood i uh we can support this i was uh this as most of you know
I got back into sports card collecting
last year at the
height of the pandemic or the third
the third height of the pandemic
it's your formula one Troy
no one cares about it except for you
but we listen to it
I care
skid chaos and that's why I tell this story
I got back into it and i i go through waves
where i'm like way into it i'm like i need to stop buying all this and then i've got my own
ebay store i'm like trying to flip the cards but i never have time to put them on there i bought
this uh i bought this i brought this to the office today i brought this little box that you can take
pictures in it's like lights up so oh it looks perfect for the uh cards wasn't a lot uh i thought maybe i'd have some time today nope just prepping encounters i don't
want to run uh and i uh so the the the the story is we were we were home visiting my parents
about a month ago and uh they moved right near the card store and comic book store that I grew up going to.
And my younger brother, Tyler, or professional wrestler, Troy Nelson, he still goes there, and he's never really – he moved to New York for a little bit, but he pretty much stayed in our hometown.
And so he's just been friends with this guy forever, and he was a baby when I started going to this comic book store.
So anyways, one day I told Archer, I'm like, let's go to the card store.
So Archer and I took a walk over.
It's walking distance.
Started raining a little bit.
I said, you know what?
We're going to get you some Pokemon cards.
And Daddy's going to get some overpriced baseball cards.
And he was like, what's Pokemon?
I was showing him on the phone.
It was Pikachu.
I was bullshit.
And so we get there.
I'm like, which one do you want?
And he picked one pack of cards, and we opened it up.
And he was way into it for a couple days, and now he keeps coming back to it.
So anyways, you get free cards to go online, because everything's moved online now.
You can get the physical cards or the online cards.
So I set up an account I said come
on buddy let's check this out
I am now playing it when
he's not around
it's a fantastic game
the Pokemon card game? Yeah it's
phenomenal it's unbelievable
I'm playing against God knows who
around the world
Archer will leave the room like I'll be there in a second
gonna beat this son of a bitch
if I can only level up my Poke around the world. Archer will leave the room like, I'll be there in a second. Gonna beat this son of a bitch.
If I can only level up my Poke.
Just need a new purple energy.
You're bringing up something very important, Troy,
which the internet allows you
to just beat up on anyone.
There are age brackets
for Pokemon competitions
so that the 15-year-old kid
who's way smarter and more developed
doesn't absolutely hammer the six- to nine-year-old kid who's like way smarter and more developed doesn't absolutely hammer the
six to nine-year-old to death in these competitions you're probably playing a six-year-old online well
i don't know i put in uh i think i put in archer's age of three and uh i'm getting smoked
oh man three-year-olds they really grow up so fast so fast yeah i might have put my age though because i'm like they're not gonna let a three-year-old, they really grow up so fast. Yeah, they grow up so fast. I might have put my age, though, because I'm like,
they're not going to let a three-year-old start an account.
But I don't know.
It's just I find myself being like, this is fucking great.
Maybe I should try Magic Arena, and then I know if I do that, it's over.
Yeah, yeah.
What's the other?
Is it Hearthstone?
Is that what it's called?
Hearthstone is great.
Hearthstone is great because it has a decent amount of single-player content.
And I like those games.
But the learning curve when you're getting good,
it's sometimes not fun to be stomped by people that have been playing it for 10 years all the time.
There's a nice little single-player component to it as well.
And it's a lot of fun.
Was Yu-Gi-Oh big?
Was that a big thing, Yu-Gi-Oh?
Was that also cards?
A card game? Or was it just collectibles
okay that's where you see the memes so you've unlocked my trap card there's like a trap card
mechanic in that game where like it'll set up anyway i don't have time to explain to people
in their 40s i have neither the time nor the inclination did you want to just read the jack
nicholson monologue from a few good men troy and your jack nicholson voice now's the time nor the inclination. Did you want to just read the Jack Nicholson monologue from A Few Good Men, Troy,
in your Jack Nicholson voice?
Now's the time.
I do have a good Jack. Hold on.
No, I got nothing.
But I think
I'm ready to at least start an arena account
and see what happens. They'll probably throw you
a free deck just for starting the account.
Honestly, this is what I never
understood about the football
card collecting or the baseball card collecting after a certain point things like pokemon and
magic just made me like why wouldn't you want to have it be something where you can get incredibly
valuable cards you get all the same trigger uh excitements but you also can make an amazing game
out of it too i just always loved that aspect of magic and then
uh pokemon you know what's going to be great if you get into magic and a lot of these games is
you can play them sitting at your computer but you open up a whole new hell when you realize it's
even better on your ipad and you can do it anywhere on the toilet or the toileting in
particular you're pinching out a loaf i do my best work tapping mana left and right as you tap out
the loaves that sounds great the thing joe that you're missing is like when you buy packs of cards
and you're trying to get those pulls like you get some crazy rare auto or parallel that's hard to
get that's the the juice that you get from from sports card collecting You get the same exact juice from the other games.
Because they have rare cards that are amazing
and worth as much money, if not more.
And you're just like, oh!
Now, it's not maybe attached to a human being,
the way like, man, you got to get that Mac Jones!
But it balances it out by being a really fun game.
Maybe I'll get into it.
Be sure to check out my eBay store.
A good day to buy cards.
Wait, before we move on from this bit,
I have to know some of your favorite Pokemon.
Do you remember any of their names from the cards, Troy?
Was Elect Buzz really good for you?
Well, I played yesterday.
Yeah?
Archer really liked Furfru, who's just like poodle.
And I'm like, we're not playing with
furfru furfru is a d-tier pokemon dude you want to move on from furfru but it's cute it's kind
of poodly let me tell you something about furfru i uh we dealt our hand got dealt sure enough this
furfru is sitting in my hand and i'm like all right just for you buddy i'm bringing out furfru
and furfru fucking mashed We won in like two hands.
It was great.
It was probably a tight matchup.
You were probably against the type of Pokemon it was strong against.
I was against a punk that didn't know how to play.
Didn't know the full brunt of Furfru's attacks.
Wasn't ready for me to mix up Paralyze and straight up 50 damage.
Anyways.
I heard the new Pokemon game for the Switch is great.
Arceus?
Yes.
And people have been calling that creature Arceus for a long time.
And I think the game is calling it Arceus or maybe it's flipped vice versa.
But yes, it's supposed to be very good.
Wasn't there a big Game Boy game?
I was into the Game Boy.
Game Boy came like
after i played i definitely put over 100 hours in in the pokemon game like pokemon game boy
like the different there was a silver and a gold i think you were you were pokemon red player to
begin with i don't even remember anymore it was so fun oh it was red and blue when i when i when
i started whenever i feel like when it first hit the states it was red and blue when i when i when i started whenever i feel like when it
first hit the states it was red and blue yeah i think i played blue that blue sounds familiar
i played blue too oh it was so i was so obsessed with it oh just walking through like hedges
trying to find rare pokemon popping out like oh my god gotta catch it! Gotta get a Scyther!
Gotta get a Scyther!
Oh, that's a good Pokemon.
It was really, really fun.
I had blue, so my friend and I had to use
the infrared
scanner at the top of the Game Boy, or
because it didn't work, you had to use the cable that would connect.
And then you could trade.
So I have introduced it to my
kids through the newest edition of Pokemon Snap,
which is now on Switch.
I played Pokemon Snap in college
and it was amazing.
We're all just like, you know,
a group of dudes that just played Goldeneye
and Smash Brothers all the time.
And then along comes Pokemon Snap.
Bunch of jocks, right?
Just a bunch of tough dudes.
And along comes Pokemon Snap, and it just emulated what it feels like to be hugged and loved.
It is a wonderful, wonderful game that has no real competitive aspect,
and you just go around taking pictures of Pokemon
and my kids are obsessed with it.
They absolutely love it.
And now they can start naming them all and stuff
and then I'll graduate them to playing competitively
where they hurt each other.
One can dream.
One can dream.
While you were telling that story,
I started a magic account.
one can dream uh while you were telling that story i started a magic account some fans gave us some magic the gathering just like starter decks to play with and i keep meaning
and bring them to the live show trips and i just keep forgetting the d they're like dnd magic right
we have well we have a d somebody gave us a d i think we have two dnd uh sets that we can do a
full draft from which we should do at some point we should do it and just release it as
content.
Um,
I was talking about magic cards.
Like we know what we're talking about,
which we won't,
which would be the best.
I like,
I like the,
the physical act of collecting and all that.
But like for me,
I'd rather play a digital version of Sudoku and the crossword than play with
the newspaper.
And the same applies to me for magic.
It's just so much like easier to like make your deck and find it and store you don't have to store
anything it's on it's on your computer on your phone like uh we have them but like i would just
rather look at them and maybe play with them once or twice and put them away and go back to the
digital version sadly that's ryan well hey maybe in a couple weeks when we're in Boston for Glass Cannon Live,
oh, that's right, we're coming to Boston, you sons
of bitches. You buy tickets yet?
We're going to play Magic instead of doing the show.
So,
be sure to come out to the Paradise Rock Club.
This will be, what, our third or fourth
visit to the Paradise? I think it's our
fourth! Maybe our
tenth visit to the Paradise Rock Club.
And for the first time ever we're offering
$25 standing room tickets
because I know some people
but money's tight
but 25 bucks come
up in their amazing balcony
that's usually where I go
hang out like before the show
can't do it
it's going to be standing room
and then
might be some VIPs
still available
the Boston shows
are always amazing
and if you saw
what happened in Richmond
the end of that show, oh baby!
We're starting hot, so please come out.
That was my announcer
voice. Now,
back to Giant Slayer.
Back to Giant Slayer.
Here we are. Last week,
I'll tell you, Renfall
really, he really
laid it out for you.
I think we all felt the gravity of the situation.
Yeah.
He's the man.
Renfall is the man.
I just have one problem with Renfall, and I really don't want to bring down the game.
Be careful.
Be careful.
He's a cool dude.
I just kind of want to be like,
Renfall,
where is he?
Just tell us where he is.
I mean, he's
a ghost that has run of the castle.
Where is the storm
tire? Just tell us what room he's in.
And you can't do that, and I
get that, but it seems to be
missing. He is a ghost that knows the whole castle inside and out.
How does he not know where he is?
Especially if he knows everything that he's doing, such as preparing to foil our every attempt because he watches us fight every combat.
I like to think of it that like he's trapped in this like purgatory type state.
It's not really purgatory, but like he goes in and out.
And it's only in those moments when you are touching his old practice mace or coming to
this chapel that there's enough energy to draw him back into this plane.
And the rest of the time, he's just hearing and whispers and feeling whispers brushed
up against memories of his time before Volstice took over.
That's the way I envision it.
That makes sense.
Like he wouldn't have the,
he wouldn't be able to make the,
all the logical connections to just say,
Oh,
it's this room up this stair.
It's like,
it's all sort of like a,
a mat.
It's like a dream for him.
And he can't really connect the dots at times.
He's one of my favorite,
if not my favorite NPC.
And I'm so glad that he's become who he's become in this adventure but what's interesting is like he's someone that faced volstice was tricked by volstice and fell to volstice so no
one knows better than him the awesome power of the storm tyrant he really thought the storm tyrant
was going to allow casual Fridays.
Just whip the rug right out from under him.
The Friday after the first time.
But yeah, the end is nigh.
I don't know, guys.
Ten eps after this, maybe? Wow.
That's what I'm thinking.
I'm like, in my head, I feel we're after this we're down to the final 10
i mean that's within three months that's yeah less than three months we're done well that's
crazy that's scary crazy i can't believe you were on the money with androids and aliens i was
i was and if i if the last episode of this is four hours long, then I'll be able to hit that again. But I don't know.
I like 325 as a nice round number.
But who knows?
I honestly don't know.
That fight with the Naga took four fucking episodes.
Just make it episode 325, part one, 325, part two.
See, that's how you do it.
That's how you do it. That's how you do it.
But it's starting to come together.
And, I mean, my Google Doc here is getting towards the bottom of it.
There's still some stuff to jump around in, but really, really interesting here.
You come out.
You fight this ambush of the cloud giants. The Leng spider comes back. You're able to take them all out. You fight this ambush of the cloud giants.
The Leng spider comes back.
You're able to take them all out.
Nalbur, one of the twins, comes flying in on his rock mount.
Rock mount gets mazed out of existence.
The giant falls.
You come into the chapel.
You find a hidden cache of items, thanks to
Renfall being like, hey, my stuff is down
there! And Renfall
is able to cure Sir Will's insanity.
If you guys...
See, this is why, really, I know
people are like, why are they doing so much streaming?
This would be so great if this
was a stream, just to see the map,
because you really, all you're left to do is
visualize at home.
If you look at the map right now, I'm going to ping
a couple locations for you because your
options right now
are pretty limited. You've explored
almost every area that you can see.
I'm not going to tell you if there's secret shit you
missed, but the only
area you didn't explore is the area
out here that I'm
pinging, which is just north of the Hanging Garden.
It's the area that you were nervous
about that had the statues in it.
It's kind of like the main entrance
of the castle. You don't
think there are any other
rooms there, per se,
but it's an area you didn't
spend any time in.
Just to the north of that,
there is a staircase leading up
that is
in a room to
the west of the
room where you fought all of those orcs
and the big
pig thing.
Yopotril.
And then
there is the hidden ladder
that you discovered in the room just to the north of where you fought that big dragon plant creature.
And then the shambling mounds came out afterwards.
You found a ladder and sent Metra up it on the ethereal plane and invisible.
And she went up and she found this room that didn't have any walls,
but there was a staircase on the far end.
And she went to the staircase,
went up the staircase.
And that's where you found the turrets and led you to the area where the
saddles were and a nest and a pole.
Because that's all over.
That's like a balcony over the garden,
right?
Right.
You can see down from the garden.
Yeah.
You can see down into the garden. I, you can see down into the garden.
I remember that.
Oh, that makes sense, finally,
because I pictured it as like a separate castle outcropping,
and now it's vertical.
That makes sense.
That was on the staircase on the far end
of that strange space that she entered.
And then your other option is the staircase
that's like that winding tower
where you first fought the Mithril Golem
and the Water Elementals, then
you fought, uh, Linaritis,
uh, and then you chased
her up until you found the Observatory
room and that walkway
that was exposed to the sky.
So, those are your options.
Uh, you also haven't rested in a bit,
um, but
I don't know what you want to do. And
there is bubbling lava
on the ground
not that you can't just fly right over it
but annoying
who was the
author of this book again
Tito Liatti
do you think it took
Tito Liatti seven years
to write this book
because this castle is preposterous.
He also wrote book two of Strange
Aeons, which we're playing right now on the tour.
And
I see some similarities, but I also don't.
I mean, this is a mega dungeon.
And I said to you when we
started this, or if not
when we started, then when we got to the castle,
I was like, I don't know how
anyone could write this. I don't know how anyone could write this.
I don't know anyone.
You'd have to never have stopped playing this game and have just a beautiful mind.
So, Tito, if you're listening, good work.
Yeah, excellent, excellent work.
It's unbelievable.
Okay.
Okay.
Well, here's the thing about the room with the statues.
The question is, do we want to go into this room that seems to have no point other than to perhaps have an encounter where we can get experience points?
I don't really know why else we go in there
unless there's a secret wall or something,
but it's the outside wall of the castle,
so I think that we're probably not going to have a secret wall,
a secret door.
Is that room outside, Troy? I can't remember.
Is that the first room inside the castle,
or is there a chance we can get thrown off and die?
It's inside.
If you were to leave those doors and go to the north,
which is another area you really have to explore,
that's another part of the castle that Metro explored,
either invisible or ethereal.
It's kind of like the ramparts that overlook the processional entrance of the castle.
That part is outside.
But even there, you'd have to be way, way on the platform to the far west to be in danger of being pushed to your death.
What do you guys think?
Do you want to fight statues?
I'm curious about the statue room.
I'm also, I don't want to leave any stone unturned for two reasons one because i just thinking from storytelling i don't
want anyone coming following us i wouldn't want anyone like following behind us and jumping us
when we weren't ready for it we're fighting somebody else and two because i've had the same
bow uh for about four years and any chance that I can get to find a better bow,
I want to take it.
That's fair.
I, too, suffer from a deep case of bow lust.
It's been an affliction I've been dealing with.
I've been prescribed several ointments.
Nothing's gotten rid of it,
so I'm ready to explore that room, too.
However, Mr. Liati's wonderfully written
Castle of Death However, Mr. Liati's wonderfully ridden castle of death brought me close to my very wits end.
It sat me of all of my day's abilities and spells.
Baron feels a little bit of a yawn come on him inside of this chapel.
And looks around at his compatriots to see if they too want to catch some Zs.
You talking about resting bro
um resting sounds good to me i don't know where we would rest though because that's the thing is
where we are that dragon is about to is gonna pop back into existence in a minute yeah we moved
out of rock the rock thing we the castle moved out it's going it's traveling
really quickly rock is back a ways they'd have to can't fly though as i recall can it fly faster
than a castle that's a good question what do we know about the ecology of the rock
an unladen rock was the airspeed velocity of an unladen rock. What's the airspeed velocity of an unladen rock? Oh, that's good.
Yeah, I mean, is there a chance the rock could catch up eventually back to your shore?
But the fact that that giant has to levitate all the way back up, get to the castle, find the rock, and all this other stuff,
you're probably safer than you're ever going to be inside of this chapel.
Yeah, that's a good point.
I have another question.
Yes, you.
The giant-headed man in the back.
I'd like to get back into this encounter from last week with the maze and the guy that fell.
Levitate?
Good times.
Yeah, that was great.
But levitate?
You can't get back to the castle if it's moving by levitating like you'd have to fly you have to be able to fly just saying i understand there's
nothing like to grab another another curiosity on top of that is that levitate is listed as a
total weight of 100 pounds a level. How much do cloud giants weigh?
Wow.
Because if it weighs more...
You've seen them levitate before.
It's not like, ah, I got this.
It's a racial ability, isn't it?
I should eat that extra piece of mince pie.
He just falls.
I mean, here's the thing.
I'm not digging too much into the physics of this because Paizo didn't.
But the reality
is, yeah, it's going to take a long time,
but the minute you come out of combat,
that rock is going to come back from
the maze. You know what I mean? All those
rounds are going to run out if it
keeps failing the intelligence check, so the rock can
just find him. He just
can't fall. Don't forget you
found those badges before.
Remember those badges you found?
The pictures of the rock
on them?
They have ways of
navigating this. They're well prepared.
Now, does that mean you're going to open the door and you're going to be
standing right there? Probably not.
I also want to
take a quick opportunity to thank the
many physicists
and scientists that reached out
uh namely uh top of my head daniel david eric read your emails thank you guys uh that was that
was awesome really breaking down what was happening do you ever like take a a plane or use a piece of
technology that you have no idea how it works
and then you're like i only know the idiots i make this podcast with how is there anyone that
knows how to do this stuff yeah and then they all show up when you discuss physics my first thought
is always like how can you be this smart and listen to this show that's exactly what i was
like i'm always baffled.
Baffled by it.
Are you kidding?
I appreciate it so much.
Do you watch any reality TV?
Like, smart people need this shit.
We get a shocking, a shocking amount of people with PhDs that come to our live shows.
That is true.
Lots of scientists, lots of...
Doctors, too.
Learned men and women.
Learned people.
Okay.
So it sounds like statue room is happening, but...
After this?
Aaron wants to rest first, so let's do a rest.
We could rest right here in the chapel.
And Sir Will is going to be so happy to have his wits about him.
And I do only have three lay on hands, a.k.a. one channel for the day.
So maybe resting
is in order to play it also just feels kind of poetic to be in this beautiful place that kind
of stands against everything uh oh yeah our enemies uh are against dude shaylin like sir
will has never felt safer so i think this is a a great idea that the gm had yeah the atmosphere
in here would be most conducive to resting of anywhere we've been so far yeah this castle
uh all right then let's do it can i can i officially click night's rest
uh you guys setting a watch you leave the doors open to get a little breeze it's kind of warm in here i want to crack the door it's up to you
we'll bar the doors okay and we will no we can't keep a watch but the but the spike down
or the the thing that we put down like in disguise or is it the tree it's the spike
yeah the spike you make it look like a bunch of pews.
I love the idea that the evil enemy that's omnipresent and watching everything we do will be totally fooled by the spike that it watches us put down.
Well, he might not be, but one of his lesser toadies might be.
Are you kidding?
If the Naga wants to come after us right now, I'd be down.
Let's clear her out.
Yeah, that'd be great. If she came for us, that would save us a trip.
Oh, man.
The Naga's like this stream that I gotta do that I'm just...
It's like, ah, I don't want to deal with this stream.
I know I gotta do it, but it's so much work.
I can't wait till it's done.
That's what the Naga is.
It's like, you just know it's out there.
I can't wait till we just kill her and know that she's not going to sneak up and prismatic spray us i feel the same way i
think you should just write an exit story for her where she wants to pursue other career goals
and she just moves on because if we just like all get prismatic sprayed into insanity again yeah
it's going to be so miserable who's to say she wasn't like walking up on one of those
balconies just slipped and fell
it's true happens all the time
happens all the time
or she's inspired by
she's inspired by all the PhD
holders that listen to her program
and wants to pursue on herself
we also know that Storm Tyrant
is you know not the
best boss he cancelled Casual Fridays maybe that Storm Tyrant is, you know, not the best boss. He canceled Casual Fridays.
Yeah.
Maybe she wants to find a more, you know, kind and welcoming.
Yeah, a healthier workplace.
Less toxic environment.
Maybe he realized that, you know, workers worked better when they weren't comfortable.
Guy took over a castle.
He must know what he's doing.
Anyways. Just real quick. You're siding with Volstaff?
I'm siding with Volstaff
You're siding with the Storm Tyrant
In his approach
To leadership
The torture and the overthrow of the current
Residents being your preferred method of
Corporate takeover?
I don't enjoy casual Friday
I don't want toual Friday, so I get it.
I don't want to see people's casual jeans.
Prefer a nice pair of slacks.
Nice pair of slacks.
Pleated slacks.
Everyone may click Night's Rest on their character sheet.
Yay.
All right.
Get it back.
Sir Will must be exhausted.
He's been a long time being insane.
He sure did.
I imagine he feels so much better to be back.
You know, we did a little bit last week, but apologies.
Apologies all around.
But now he's like, he feels so invigorated by being in this chapel.
Shalen is ready to rock.
You guys talk about anything in the name of import?
Sir, will you've had a tough couple of days?
Yeah.
You know, I think the only thing that he talks about, uh, he's come back to this cause it
came through to him during his brief moments of lucidity
and his fear about being lost and alone.
And when he thought everybody was turning on him, he kept thinking of Adriel.
So I think he just keeps talking about Adriel to Baron specifically.
He keeps being like, he might be here somewhere.
We have to keep an eye out.
I think he can handle himself, but he might be in trouble, blah, blah, blah.
That's sort of Sir Will's concern right now.
Baron's thinking about the life that he could have had getting to know his blood relation
and what they could have talked about, done, understood about their family.
All the things that he would like to do if Volstis is defeated
that no one is safe to do to enjoy their own lives until
that job is done so it tugs at his heartstrings a little bit that he hasn't met him that we don't
know where he is that there's so much unknown but he also knows there's a job in front of him
yeah uh Nestor is feeling a bit relieved because his plan was that next time we rested, he was going to kill Sir Will in his sleep.
Oh, right.
and he felt like he was the only one with the kind of clarity unhindered by morals to be able to take care of something
so that they could just move on unfettered.
And so part of him is glad that he didn't have to do that,
even though it would have been kind of cool to watch him bleed out.
But he's glad because now it's like their chances are
better with a healthy will than they are with no will and even better than if they have to
caretake an insane will you know if nestor survives this adventure skid i think there
might be an opening for the uh the administrator of the briarstone asylum no it's too much
responsibility although it seems like there wouldn's too much responsibility i don't want to it seems like
there wouldn't be much responsibility if you're willing to put up with my
my unique sort of methods of treatment then yeah all right i could be done in a week
i want a pension be on my way
what about metra metra i don't know metra's been a weird place you know
we keep i don't know is she spent so much of her life just kind of being swept from plane to plane
this it might be i mean this is so this is where it gets into funny, like, game time versus in-game time. Like, for us, it's been years with Metro.
But for her, I guess it's, what, months?
Three days.
Three days.
Since she landed in Trinnell.
Since she landed in Trinnell after being stuck in the dimension of time.
I wish I had the calendar.
Regardless, this has been the longest time she's been on one plane without having to you know be swept away or being banished or and she and you know that time is a time that period
she spent in the dimension of time you know kind of was endless and insignificant all at once
and yet i don't know there's there's something like the constant state of upheaval that must
be existing in an adventure path too it's It's like you're constantly just moving on to be attacked, moving on to attack other people.
And then we've talked before about the post-traumatic stress that all of the heroes of all adventuring parties must feel.
But I don't know.
I think Mettra's probably kind of sorting through that.
She just watches her will become insane and then not be able to do anything about it, too.
That's got to be...
Yeah, it's a special kind of helplessness.
And he
took it from Metra.
It was her insanity that he took on himself.
Yeah, yeah. Oh yeah, so she
would probably want to thank you.
Thank you for your sacrifice
tonight.
No thanks necessary.
I didn't think twice.
It was Ioma Day's will.
Plus you can't get off on being the savior.
I'm kidding.
I'm kidding.
I'm very grateful.
She's so sassy.
Why do you think he left in the first place?
It was just so he could come back, Metra.
In the most dramatic fashion possible.
It was dark as before the dawn and he shows up.
Just kidding. I love you, Sir Will.
I don't know how to quit you.
We were so scared about losing you.
I'm unfamiliar with
humor.
The Keswick family crest.
Yes.
Yeah, that's what's written on the...
I'm unfamiliar with humor.
We're unfamiliar with humor.
So where is existence up there in Mendev?
All right.
Where are we going here?
What are we doing?
I vote to skip the statues, but I, as always, will defer to skip. I vote to skip the statues,
but I, as always, will defer to skip.
I want to see the statues.
You live, you know,
you spend a week in Minner Hall's Cathedral
and you never see the statues.
I know.
So it's like, I'll feel terrible
if we go back and tell our friend,
where were you?
Is it Minner Hall's Cathedral?
Oh, oh, how did you like the statues?
Would you believe it?
I never saw it.
Yeah, you know what? We never stopped we went right by it we went right by the door and we never went in are you kidding me yeah my buddy
was afraid they were going to come alive it is funny it reminds when i was living in japan uh
the people there like that was they were like uh oh do you go to the grand canyon i'm like i've
never been to the grand canyon it's like how can you not go to the Grand Canyon? I'm like, I've never been to the Grand Canyon. It's like, how can you not
go to the Grand Canyon? It's right there.
You understand how big America is.
Alright, so it sounds like we're going to the statue room.
I'll tell you this, when you open the doors
to look out on
the platform there, the
lava
is gone.
Good. We never got to the source of that either.
Was that...
I already forget
his name. Malbor?
Malbor?
Was that his magic? Malby is his sister.
Malbor is the brother, I think.
Then why wouldn't he... If that was him, then why wouldn't
he fly in while we were in the thick
of it with cloud giants and
a lang spider? I don't know who it with cloud giants and a Lang spider?
I don't know who it was.
Was it the Lang spider?
Did they have that power?
I don't believe lava is something commonly associated with Lang spiders, though I defer to Skip.
That doesn't seem right at all.
Yeah, I agree.
I don't know.
I have no idea.
What's your approach?
You can go through the room where
you fought those cloud giants.
Remember when they were
coming around? We split the party.
Yeah, that was good. Or you can go the
long way through the hanging garden
and come up that way.
I'd rather
stay out of that garden. Sir Willis
is thinking about, like, Baron almost
dying right in front of his face.
Let's go in through
the cloud giant room.
Alright,
I'll move you over to the door there.
Tell me what
you're doing.
Nestor, would you give it a look?
I will. I will check for traps.
Let's see.
Let's vote for that.
That is a 28 perception,
35 for traps.
Yeah, no traps. You're good to go.
Looks clear, mate.
Okay.
Lexington,
let's see what
statues have in store for us.
He comes forward
and opens the door
and just sort of, I guess,
pushes it open
and stays where he is and just sits there.
Okay.
I now realize I did lie to Matthew.
This terrace is open to the sky above.
Oh.
I thought you said that before.
Yeah, I'm looking... Because when I was looking on the map,
I'm like, it looks like it's closed in,
but now that I'm reading the flavor checks, it's open.
But where you're standing,
you're not Lear and Ledge if you changed your mind.
I don't trust anything you say to us.
You really can't.
You know, the main
doors here, these look like
the main doors into the castle.
When they had people over for Thanksgiving,
this is the door they came in.
There's the two
carriated columns on either side
of the door depicting
life-size
cloud giant
guards.
And then across from you
on the other side
is an imposing white marble
statue of a dragon
looking down
over the balustrade to the west.
That's facing away from us?
Yeah.
Life-size? Oh yeah huge oh yeah uh yeah
what is the temperature what is the temperature it's gotta be freezing out here it's pretty cold
time we go outside right it's gotta be absolutely freezing it's pretty cold you know that bubble
that's around the castle, it changes everything.
You know what I mean?
It changes...
The atmosphere within a little bit.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So it's not...
Okay.
It's not like if you were on the wing of a plane at 50,000 feet.
Okay.
Okay.
Thanks to magic.
Can't breathe.
The dragon has four big horns coming out of its head.
Mad ass. Can we,
can somebody make a knowledge arcana to see
what kind of dragon it
represents? Yup.
No, I can't.
I can't.
While that's happening, Sir Will's gonna
detect evil before anything else.
30 on the knowledge arcana.
You don't detect any evil, and that is enough to know
that this is a cloud dragon.
Cloud dragon?
What the hell is that?
Are they good aligned?
It's a cloud dragon
mounted on a 20-foot pedestal.
Whoa.
Cloud dragon.
I think they're like...
What's their neutral?
They're normally relegated to the plane of air, the elemental plane of air.
Yeah. I think they're neutral because the chromatic dragons are evil. The metallic dragons
are good. And then I guess if you're another kind of element, you're just neutral.
Yeah.
Metro rolled high enough to know that they are normally neutral.
They're very rare, and they're the only example of extra planar true dragons known as primal dragons.
Ooh.
Baron will detect neutrality.
I think I can do that with detect alignment.
Just looking real quick.
Evil, good, or law and chaos.
No, he cannot detect neutrality.
That's the whole point of being neutral, bro.
That's right.
You slip under the radar of jerk face inquisitors.
They're pretty cool.
They have these distinctive
four horned heads
short snouts and when they're not
in statue form
their body just seems to exude
wisps of smoke
wow so cool
is their breath weapon steam or
something no it's electricity
oh cool
it frightens me that you know that
so readily.
It's electricity.
We close the door.
Close the door.
Click.
Also, did you see how eager he was to say that I didn't detect any evil?
No request for how far the distance is or anything like that.
He said, oh, there's no evil.
This is a disaster, Matthew.
I can't believe you wanted to come in here.
Can we just do a quick detect bow
and then leave without having to actually go out there?
Can we cast detect bow?
The main part of coming out here
is that there might be stuff
on the baluster out outside
that was interesting, because when Metra came up
on the Theroplane, you saw
all these paintings,
but you couldn't really,
you were,
you were moving quickly.
There's no time for art.
Would she know from her knowledge role if they can see invisibility?
No,
you don't know.
Well,
they're extremely rare,
you know?
Yeah.
Sir, we'll either trots out there and then, you know they're extremely rare you know yeah sir will either trots out there and then you know obviously is incapacitated lexington falls through a hole something happens immediately
or metro goes out invisible and scouts around a little bit uh i'm fine with either what do you
think what do you think want to split the d and i'll make you invisible? Oh, I'll split that D.
You need to make us both invisible, though.
Is it the weekend already?
Skid, if that is not a drop that gets played all the time.
You splitting that D, bro?
Grab it.
No, just, just, oh, I'll'll split the d i'll split that
so many bad things
i'll make you both invisible okay this is weird and fun sir will in lexington invisible Sir Will and Lexington Invisible Come into
Oh my gosh I'm like so slowly
Moving my paw on him
And uh yeah so yeah now we also
Have this uh never ending story moment
He's between the two
Huge guards they're both
15 feet away on either side
Obviously in range
Of attack both of them at the same time.
Just swung on.
Both holding beautiful gargantuan maces.
It's like Lord of the Rings, too.
The Watchers.
Yeah, dude.
A moment that did not make it into the film, but is really cool.
He'll continue coming out.
Now he's about 50 feet or so,
or 30 feet or so into the room from the door.
He looks back.
They can't see him,
but he sees Metra and Baron standing right in the doorway.
Nestor right behind them, I imagine.
Six arrows knocked.
Yep.
He turns back again toward the statue.
He's like, the statue is everything here.
He has to go to the statue.
He keeps moving
and he detects evil.
He has to detect evil.
Does he get anything?
No.
Keeps moving towards the statue.
Now he's 80 feet away
from his ally.
60, whatever.
Far.
He's within 15 feet of this.
Now it's a 20-foot pedestal.
And then the dragon goes up from there.
So this is massive.
He'll start to skirt around the side.
If nothing happens as he gets close to its back.
You're skirting around that D?
He's skirting around that d he's like a dragon uh he gets he goes to the north around its uh flank and is now looking up at it from like a profile view
what does he see anything different anything change i'll roll percept getting nervous 14
crushed it oh yeah no it doesn't look any...
It's just, it's amazing.
And now don't forget, Sir Will has a history with dragons.
That has, you know, your feelings have changed
as you now know that that was Brander.
Yeah, he knows it was Brander.
He also knows that Noxymara, an evil-aligned dragon,
specifically set out to help him.
But he is concerned about the dragons that are not of their own will right now.
You know, that's the other thing.
Here's what cloud dragons look like.
Oh, crazy.
That is a fantastic piece of art.
Really cool.
Have you guys ever seen those memes that's like you versus the guy
that you should be
worried about, like for your girl?
Like this versus other dragons is such a like overly done badass.
I'm scared of this guy.
This is like the Jason Momoa of dragons.
Yes.
But it's cool.
It just is beautiful.
That like Azarth and the cloud giants from before they wanted to show off uh to their guests like
they were all about beauty they were all about history and uh cloud giants are an important part
of their their world did they run a bank or something i think about banks and churches in
terms of wanting to always impress visitors.
Like, what did the cloud giants do besides fly around in this castle and look down on people?
There's a lot of flying around, it seems like.
They just minded their own.
Sir Will continues.
All right.
I think he's going to kick it in gear.
Well, no.
He's going to move away from the statue now toward the north,
right to the edge of this, would you say, balustrade, balcony?
It's something, right?
Is it just open air drop-off right at the edge of where the dragon is looking over?
Yep.
Whoa.
where the dragon is looking over?
Yep.
Whoa.
He looks out over this expanse and he can see clouds beneath
going by, moving at a
brisk 21 miles an hour.
Perception check.
Just looking all around, looking for danger,
looking up at the ramparts, looking back at the statue.
Damn. Damn.
Eleven.
Yeah, you're pretty exposed here, and you're right on the edge.
You can feel the wind whipping at your back.
You're kind of tightening your thighs around Lexington's back.
You look down, and you see clouds whipping past.
You look up and you don't, thankfully, don't see anything flying around,
but you feel very exposed here.
Okay.
Just doing a double check on spells here.
Okay.
I'm going to keep going.
He's going to go. I'm going to keep going. He's going to go I'm going to
go past the statue. So he's going to
come within 10 feet
of the front of the statue. Yeah.
10 feet away. Okay.
Go slowly past it. Slightly emboldened
that he's invisible. And now
he comes kind of under its chin.
And he's looking up at it.
Horrifying obviously. And now he comes kind of under its chin. Uh, he's looking up at it. Uh,
horrifying,
obviously.
Um,
nothing changes,
right?
No movement.
Unmoving.
Okay.
One more perception.
Now up really close to the statue.
Natural.
20.
Awesome.
Oh,
total of a 25 I believe so bad
yeah I mean
sorry it's 24 actually
you've
come into rooms that have statues
that have come to life before
several times
if not so will
the rest of your party throughout this adventure
this isn't moving now maybe it's because it doesn't detect you because you're invisible If not, so will the rest of your party throughout this adventure.
This isn't moving.
Now, maybe it's because it doesn't detect you because you're invisible, but you look up and you just see a terrifying statue.
And that 24, no compartment switches, nothing on the edge.
Nothing.
All right.
In that case, now he's going to pick up his pace and ride a little bit quick towards the south,
where there's the double doors out to the gardens.
And just go whip around and just doing one more perception around there,
looking at the floor and the walls, just seeing if there's anything unusual or any bows.
I'm sorry, 18.
Nothing.
Okay, then he'll cycle all the way,
and then you guys just hear like,
and he comes right up to you,
still invisible, but he's like,
There's nothing.
Nothing I could see anyway.
But it is treacherous out there.
It drops straight off out
in front of the dragon.
The dragon is quite a spectacle.
It is beautiful
but terrifying.
And he sort of just, you don't see this, but he
grabs his dragon foe amulet
that's around his neck. Sort of touches
it slightly. And no
magic bows of any kind?
No, not
that I could see, Nestor. There's no
compartments, no
hidden floorboards
or anything. Nowhere to hide anything
of that value.
Perhaps we
should make our way upstairs.
We need to get at least one encounter in this
episode.
At least we got a trigger one get at least one encounter in this episode at least we got a trigger one at least uh if you ever need for a cliffy all right so what we're talking about going to the stairs like right to the north is that
we're saying there is a set of stairs going up in the room directly north of where you are.
And we don't know where that goes.
Oh, we think that it goes, whatever.
Let's go.
You're still invisible if you want to lead the way, Sir Will.
Yes.
Excellent idea, Metro.
Fall in.
And he starts,
I don't know why Lexington suddenly has the hooves of a horse.
Have you ever seen a chicken?
And how long are you invisible?
16 minutes.
24 hours?
Great, so you've got some time here. 24 hours.
24.
All right, so you guys, what is your party order here?
Nestor is bringing up the rear.
Sir Will, go up first.
Sir Will, followed by...
Baron can go next, since he's pretty stealthy.
He'll stick next to Metra, 20 feet behind.
I'll be right behind Baron.
Yeah.
I'll be behind them both.
Okay. Sir them both. Okay.
Sir,
we'll,
we'll start.
So we'll in Lexington,
we'll start working their way up the stairs about a 50 foot staircase.
It looks like this is a beast.
About 40 foot staircase.
And then is there a landing and does it turn or am I at the next floor yet?
Yeah, no, you know, there's a lot of space between each floor.
Right, right.
So it does turn when you get to the top.
Just want to see if there's anything important for you in this room to know.
You know, it's just this massive wooden staircase occupying most of the western half of this room.
And so you head up and let's go to a
new map I just want to say before we he clears to to a certain level where he can see he's gonna
detect evil ahead of him okay and that would go like through the floor you know the presence of
evil up in the front of the room like does know, the presence of evil up in the front of the room. Like, does he detect the presence of evil?
He does not 60 feet.
He does not.
Okay.
Then he'll keep moving up and then I'll come up into the room.
And now, now I'm seeing it.
Now I'm seeing a room with double doors to the East, a single door to the South, and
it looks like windows off to the West.
Yeah. a single door to the south, and it looks like windows off to the west. Yeah, so the windows are these beautiful stained glass windows.
And from your sort of, I don't know if anybody has done engineering,
but you wouldn't even need engineering to know that these probably overlook the balustrade
that was to the north of the terrace that you were just on.
There is a weapon rack in this room
and a large wooden cupboard with hooks and a high shelf.
Detect magic?
You do detect magic in this room.
And let me do a perception from the staircase before we get too far in.
While he's doing that perception, Sir Will is going to go to the double doors to the east.
And he's going to put his hand right next to the door and detect evil through the door.
See if he picks up evil in that room.
You do not.
Okay.
Then he's going to hold back and wait for Metro and the rest of the team to
come into the room,
but he will slowly make his way to that cupboard.
Okay.
Or rack,
whatever you said.
Yeah.
There's a weapon rack shelves and a cupboard and some hooks on the wall.
28 on perception.
Okay.
28 in perception. Uh, 28 on perception.
Nothing
really jumps out at you.
If you focus that
detect magic a little bit longer,
you see that it's emanating
from
the cupboard.
Ooh.
The sideboard.
Yeah, the weapon rack has like big old crossbows, gargantuan crossbows, gargantuan masterwork light crossbows, four cases of ten gargantuan crossbow bolts.
And then the cupboard looks like it has several high-quality giant cloaks in fur, silk, and wool.
And one of the cloaks is emanating magic.
Uh-huh.
Is a cloak typically wondrous, a magical cloak?
Yeah.
Oh, baby.
Sir Will will go toward that, but then skirt a little off to the side.
Again, just checking for scouting purposes.
He'll go to the single door to the south
right next to the cupboard
and cast detect evil.
Let's see if there's evil in that next room
right to the south. Just preparing
for anything to come in and surprise us.
Sure.
Yep, no. You don't detect anything.
And Nestor does a perception check. Just, no. You don't detect anything. And Nestor, does the perception check just general 42?
Nothing.
You feel pretty safe in this room.
All right.
Nestor will say exactly that.
He'll turn and he'll say, I detect no evil.
It seems this room is clear.
Spellcraft on the cloak?
Yeah, give me that Spellcraft.
Crack die.
I bet.
27.
Oh, that'll do.
What a jerk.
It's crack die on an 18.
She's better.
The old burger crack die on a two.
Troy, I just throw it straight out of that box if I'm nervous about rolling.
That's the trick
this is a pretty cool
cloak
known as a Wyvern cloak
Wyvern
this heavy cloak made of blue scaled
leather
with a pointed hem that hangs near the ground provides the wearer a plus four resistance bonus on will saves, a continuous feather fall effect as the spell.
Whoa.
Now we're talking.
And the ability to use fly once per day.
Oh.
Whoa.
Cool.
Cool.
Oh, I'm not done.
This thing is expensive!
At will, as a swift action,
the wearer can form the hem into a stinger,
granting her a sting natural weapon that deals 1d6 points of damage plus poison
as the spell.
I'm assuming as the spell poison?
Or as the spell natural weapon.
Reverting the stinger to its normal
incompicu insconpicu inconspicuous shape is a free action pretty cool cloak very cool that's nice uh
which non-metra character is rolling off on this one totally useless for metronome
it's non-metra based uh yeah you too
baron are you uh do you have the ability to help yourself if you fall are you dead i don't have
well i mean i've been telling the broom to to follow me oh right all right and that's what i've
been doing will and nester i guess i mean the thing is is that I have a Cloak of Resistance, and my resistance saves are so good that having it only go to...
It would bump down my...
Fort and John.
Fort and John.
Yeah.
Fort and Reflex saves.
But I could still do it.
I mean, I don't know.
I don't know.
All right. You ready, Skip? I don't do it. I mean, I don't know. I don't know. All right.
You ready, Skid?
I don't want it.
Oh.
Because of your cloak?
Yeah, I have a cloak of resistance plus five.
Oh.
Yeah, he has this, like, it's a sort of nondescript,
but it's this incredibly powerful cloak.
And I can't give that up.
I'll take it. There you go. i have a cloak of resistance plus three and i have such bonuses on my saves that the thing that's really going to
hurt is my reflex but reflex is reflex what are you going to do yeah the will and fortitude will
still both be in great shape uh with this go for it awesome okay oh my god that is such a load off like i'm ready to go on any
outside ledge now like i've just been so freaking scared of getting thrown off the side of the
castle yeah now only lexington will fall to his death right yeah but he'll be fine he's supernatural
he's a magical wolf bro yeah right before he hits the ground. Full round action. Comes back.
What is it called again?
Wyvern Cloak.
Wyvern Cloak.
That's right.
Also known as... Oh, this is so cool.
I also love the image.
Blue scaled leather.
That's so cool.
78,000 Gs.
I know.
That's what I was looking at. That's the one reason that you would want it but your instincts were right skid
he'll peel it off your body yeah i mean sir we'll just give it to you at the end of the look
you can have it as payment for services thank you yes for saving your life exactly yeah not
killing me and we're not killing you yeah i'm on the upside you do have a reason to murder him again that's true let's look on the bright side um i imagine you've been giving these to
me automatically uh but just wanted to check in on our old pal stone cunning troy oh stone cutting
yes i've been giving you those automatically for 314 episodes.
This is GM's responsibility to every once in a while say,
oh, give me a little check there.
Yeah, no, and I do.
I certainly do whenever it comes up, and nothing.
Nothing in here.
Nothing in here.
Thanks for keeping me honest.
The masonry seems very, very tight here.
Very hard.
Hard.
The type of masonry you could split a D with.
Masonry is so hard.
Masonry is so hard. Baron, get a hold
of yourself. Alright.
Got a couple doors here. What do you
want to do?
Single door in the south is my
vote. Agreed, Sheriff. Good instincts. Single door to the south is my vote. Agreed, Sheriff.
Good instincts.
Single door to the south.
Nestor, would you mind giving it a look over?
You find traps I'm unable to find.
Yeah, not least.
He will do that.
And that is a 41 against traps, 34 regular.
You don't detect any traps.
Looks clear.
Steps back.
I imagine he's visible at this point.
Is that what we're assuming?
Well, yes.
It took us 16 minutes?
Okay.
Yeah, yeah.
It took him really long to get that cloak on.
You've got to be careful with the 78,000 gold piece. Yeah, yeah. It took him really long to get that cloak on. You've got to be careful with the 78,000 gold piece.
Yeah, exactly.
It must look really cool, though.
It's got to look...
The blue scale, leather scale cloak.
That's mad.
Especially with what I imagine is like Sir Will's color scheme, you know?
Yeah.
Looks like silver armor.
Blue scaled cloak.
Though he does have a red banner.
You'll be turning all the heads at the LARPing meat.
All right, Sir Will will open the single door to the south, having detected no evil.
Okay.
Very interesting situation here when you open the doors.
You see a long corridor that leads to a set of stairs that appear to go up.
Right about in the middle of this corridor, before the stairs, there's a small hour loop, looks like, as you've seen these hour loops around the castle.
as you've seen these hour loops around the castle.
But to the east,
it looks like it's completely open to the sky.
Huh.
Is it like a dragon pad?
Like a helipad?
You know, like a place where the person who lives or the people that live here can like come and go easily oh
interesting like a uh what do you what's it called in like battle star galactica like
where they land you know like landing pad i guess landing pad but they call them the tubes
the tubes yeah just a way to like Cylon Johns Cylon Cylon
Jones remember how cool it was in in the new Battlestar when they would launch
fighters like get in the fighter and then like walk it shot through that
tunnel like it was always cool and the I didn't see it because I'm not 80 years old that was a good show
it was a fun show I watched the reruns on the sci-fi channel
when I was home sick from school
the original one?
yeah
also Battlestar 80 when they send a couple
people to like earth in 1980
and they're riding around motorcycles
me and my friend Rob we were like
let's watch the original Battlestar.
You know, we watched it as kids so we could make fun of it.
And we watched it, and it was just like, oh, no, this is actually pretty good.
Holds up.
Yeah.
All right.
Sir Will, fearless, flying paladin.
Now.
Featherfly paladin. You can doesn't get a shot yet.
You can fly once a day.
Says on my sheet,
fly,
self only,
one slash day.
That sounds aspirational.
If I need to fly twice in a day,
something's gone wrong.
One slash day.
Nessa, I'm feeling a bit skittish.
Would you mind just peeking ahead?
Do you see anything on the floor?
He's just asking you to kind of do a perception on the floor ahead.
He doesn't want to step into a trap.
All right, he steps up beside him, Nesta does,
and does a quick peek at the immediate floor.
Natural one.
31 against traps.
You see a trap
right in front of you.
Really? Get out of here.
No, you rolled a natural one.
You just think you see a trap.
Yeah, no, it's trapped. Don't step on it.
Okay.
You better use that newfound power
of flight. Just go right
over it. Excellent idea, Nestor.
Here you go.
Nestor's expert opinion is to burn that one slash day fly to avoid the trap.
One slash day.
Player character.
Sir Will will move forward.
On his shooed wolf.
He's got the
Kogod's out. Yeah, he will hug
the wall here, actually,
while he has it, and then he comes
to the edge of the wall, and he'll peek out
over to the east,
which you said, it looks like it's open air.
Where does the drop-off happen? How far
does it go?
As far as the landing runway.
This is a really strange uh situation you
peek around the corner and you see a a space that is completely open to the air uh There's no walls, there's no ceiling, but there are these two
cloud-shaped lanterns
hanging from the middle
of the space, deeper in the room,
casting a soft azure
and violet light.
All around
the space is just clouds
and open sky, and you look
up and it's just straight
up to the sky. And the
walls are just clouds all
around you. Except for those
floating lanterns. It's a
huge space.
Yes, very strange.
I'll lean back.
Metra!
Come up here. This is very
strange. Take a look at this
okay
Metra pops up and looks around the corner
it was a cloud
lanterns
what do you think they are
when you do Metra you realize you've been here
before this was the room
that you came into
when you were invisible
and on the ethereal plane
when you slid past it all and just went up the stairs oh are these the stairs right here yes
that i went up okay i explained this i've been here okay is this in the same part of the castle
but higher up than the floor we found that cube with the symbols on?
We didn't understand that we felt like if we turned, it would change the gravity of the castle?
That is below you.
But is it in the same, like is it directly below us?
Because just where that cube in between those lanterns is reminds me of that map we saw earlier.
Do you have Dungeoneering?
Yes.
Go ahead and give me a dungeoneering.
20, which is
plus 5, so 15 out of the way.
That seemed
to be in the center of that
floor, and you could triangulate that this is
uh the center of this
floor as well
does it look similar
no no
doesn't have the other one had symbols
I think on it right yeah this I think you
should go up closer and examine it
I think you should take
your fancy
wyvern cape yourself.
Trot right up, golden boy.
Deal.
And he whips Lexington's flank and lets that cloak fly behind him
as he gallops along this open air.
I hate to see you go, but I love to watch you leave.
I think he's going to go out there.
If everybody comes up, he's going to,
okay,
well,
Lexington and I will go.
I'll go with you.
Uh,
he's going to move forward a little bit.
Uh,
and then he's going to detect evil once he's in the range of one of the
clouds.
Let's see if it's emanating any evil or if it's a,
it seems to be a natural form of this cloud castle before it was taken over by evil.
Okay.
You do not detect any evil as you and Metra begin to move into this room.
Baron and Nestor are kind of still in the hallway back there.
I keep moving forward.
I detect no evil.
I'm going to get closer.
How's Lexington doing?
He's got scent.
Is he picking up anything strange?
It's open air, obviously, so it'd be much harder,
but does he seem skittish at all, Troy, or is he fine?
No, he does seem skittish,
but it's just a very strange thing.
You look around you, and you're like,
it just doesn't seem right for this to be open air here in the middle,
open, completely up and all around you.
It seems like a marvel of architecture for the cloud giants
to have created a room like this in the middle of the castle.
Does it look like there's another floor above the one that we're standing on, like in the building surrounding it?
Or is this, are we at the penthouse right now?
If you remember, like the Hanging Gardens, that was outside.
There was nothing above that.
So there are areas of the castle that are exposed to the air that don't have anything above it that don't necessarily mean they're the penthouse.
above it that don't necessarily mean they're the pentas. And you also know from traveling
the castle and going up the secret
ladder that brought you to where the Leng spiders
are, that there's more castle above
you. And
Metra, where you came in,
you came in through a secret door,
a secret ladder
that was like way in the back right
portion of the room. And Baron,
give me a stone-cutting check.
Oh.
Whoa.
Come on, Bear.
So 39 plus 2 for stone-cutting
goes up to 41.
Oh, yeah.
Oh.
Go, go, go, go, go.
You see,
just to your
left, in fact, in this open air space, a passageway leading into the wall.
At that moment...
Oh no!
The sky all around you and above becomes eerily dark and cloudy.
It immediately becomes night and the clouds become black and gray.
And all of a sudden you hear...
Everybody roll a will save.
Oh no.
Oh my god. Will save.
No.
I dropped my die.
I'm so nervous.
Uh oh.
No.
No party. No party. No, potty.
No, potty.
Spell like ability?
Uh, yes.
Okay.
No.
No, potty.
Oh, no.
Um, hold on.
Don't say anything yet.
Uh, God.
All right.
Let's just roll with the dice.
What did everyone, including Lexington, roll?
Care Bear?
Care Bear?
Bear Bear rolled a 25, but a 27
because it is a spell or spell-like ability.
Nester.
Fail.
14.
Sir Will.
Sir Will
rolled a 25.
Garbage
roll.
And Lexington
Rolled a great roll
Got a 23
Metra
Metra rolled a natural 3
Oh no
For a 19
Oh no
Nestor
This is going to make you so angry
And I apologize But Nestor Is is going to make you so angry And I apologize
But Nestor
Is under the effects
Of a fear effect
Where he becomes
Panicked
Drops his weapons
And runs
From the scene
Of the battle
Everybody roll for initiative.
Let's go a tiny bit long here.
Because this is very, very interesting.
So hold on.
I want to make sure that Metra passed.
Metra passed.
Okay.
Because, and I want to make sure that, yeah, he's just too far away.
So I have that aura that gives everybody a bonus to fear effects.
Metro passed.
Everyone who passed is shaken for one round.
But Nestor is...
gone.
This is...
Might save his life.
What did everybody get for initiative?
I was ready to end the app right there,
but this is shocking to me.
Baron?
31.
31 for Baron.
Sir Will?
14.
I'm sorry, 15.
15.
Metra?
11.
11.
Nestor, I don't know if panic changes your initiative at all.
19.
19.
Okay.
Baron, what do you do?
Baron attempts to locate the source of the laughter using his adept senses.
Okay.
senses okay and uh if he senses it's coming from above or there's any risk to anything like he inches i guess ever so closer to um the is it a door the trap door that he saw like he has his
burrowing it's like a passage within the sky itself leading leading to a deeper passage
way like an invisible passage
kind of yeah it's like the Mexico
pavilion in Epcot
you think you think you're outside
but it's actually just it looks like the sky
it's like the
it's the
what the hell was that level
in Dark Souls the crystal one where you
run crystal cave with all those invisible
bridges that you have to know how to go across?
Yes.
So yeah, it's like through the
space. So you
move in the direction of that?
I mean, I don't
know. I need to know where this threat is coming
from. I'll tell you what, to save your perception check, that
laughter sounds like it's coming from
all around you.
The sky above the sky around you.
God, he sees Nestor drop his weapon, I assume, right?
Yeah, it'll happen on his turn.
But yeah, you see, you hear it.
You know what that effect is.
And you all had to steel yourselves against it.
And you look over at nestor
a man who does not fear and you see it in his eyes he's captivated so i'm hoping this makes
sense as a 16th level character to ask this question that grant doesn't know that i think
baron would know okay knowing that he might be under the effects of something that's controlling
his mind could baron reach out and cast protection from evil on him immediately to give him another save on this? Or is this not something that exercises mental control?
I don't believe it's mental control, but let's make sure we go through the...
It's not.
I don't think it's...
I don't think so.
Yeah, it's mind affecting, but it's not.
Yeah.
We talked about this on one of our 15 shows.
Right, but it was against insanity, which was a thing of mental control.
And I think it depends on what the source of it is.
Panicked is usually not.
It's not a charm or compulsion effect.
It's a fear effect.
Yeah.
It's not charm or compulsion.
No, no, it's not.
Well, I mean, we're guessing, but I would assume not.
Usually that symptom of charm and compulsion is usually never panicked.
It's fear, mind affecting, emotion.
Yeah, it's not.
It's mind affecting
but it's not compulsion or enchantment.
I want to do something to stop
one of our greatest damage dealers.
I don't think.
There's nothing to do.
I'll just out the next episode off.
You guys can...
Good luck. Oh, you'll want to watch
it skid i i look forward to listening to it on my commute you guys you guys are in quite the pickle
i can't wait to hear what happens let's see how you get out of this one you get out of this one
the only thing i could think would be to like give him like a touch of law but i don't think
he's gonna be making any checks i think he's going to be making any checks. I think he's just going to be running for the house.
Yeah, it's too late. He's a known coward,
that Nestor coin. That's right.
I'm known for running from fear whenever
danger rears its ugly eyes.
Totally within character.
Baron will draw
his weapon,
which I think was probably already out.
I mean, get ready.
What else am I supposed to do do it feels like it's coming from
everywhere he's going to move closer to
uh
uh
Metra and Sir Will
move closer to Metra and Sir Will
come closer to me Baron
Nesta
because he's got a
aura around him that should help
if you're close.
Get within 10 feet, Baron.
I am.
Oh, I'm not.
You're not.
There I am.
Nate.
As you're standing there,
suddenly the clouds above begin to form
into the silhouette of a colossal, nebulous dragon.
Oh!
Just giving you all the bone-chilling
sensation of floating helplessly
in a dark abyss
at the mercy of a
colossal carnivore.
And it reaches up its head
and all of you just like,
Ah!
And we'll see you next week.
Oh my God.
Oh my God.
I can't see you in two weeks.
Oh my God.
I can't wait to see you in two weeks.
As I finish the rest of the adventure solo.
Oh,
we'll see you with our new characters in two weeks.
Can we split that D and let me be panicked too?
Split that D and have the rounds. Share them among two players. Can we split that D and let me be panicked too? Split that D.
Have the rounds.
Share them among two players.
This is a real D-splitting crisis.
