last week on the glass cannon podcast the end is nine i don't know guys 10 eps after this baby
wow as the paladin returned to his senses nor is feeling a bit relieved because his plan was that next time we rested, he was going to kill Sir Will in his sleep.
The heroes ascended to the next floor of the castle.
The sky all around you and above becomes eerily dark and cloudy.
It immediately becomes night and the clouds become black and gray.
And all of a sudden you hear.
And when a new evil shook even the Slayer to his core... Nestor is under the effects of a fear effect, where he becomes panicked, drops his weapons, and runs.
The enemy revealed itself.
Suddenly, the clouds above begin to form into the silhouette of a colossal, nebulous dragon,
giving you all the bone-chilling sensation of floating helplessly in a dark abyss.
The adventure continues.
And it reaches up its head and all of you just like...
No. You know when there's a TV show that you really like
and the end of the season is coming
and there's only a couple episodes left,
maybe the end of the series,
and you just know that those last few episodes
are going to be bangers.
Sopranos was like the first show, I feel,
like you knew, like, oh, somebody's going to get whacked. Oh, no, somebody's going to be bangers. Sopranos was like the first show, I feel, like you knew, like, oh, somebody's going to get whacked.
Oh, no, somebody's going to die.
And that was the whole thing.
I'm sure there were other shows like that,
but Sopranos was the first one I remember being like,
who's going to die?
Who's going to die?
And what's going to happen?
And then Lost kind of replaced that.
And Lost, although it had the who's going to die feel,
it also just had like, what who's going to die feel,
it also just had like,
what else is going to be revealed about the island?
Which mysteries are they going to wrap up?
All of them?
All of them.
I'm sure, all of them.
You didn't want the mysteries of New Jersey to be unraveled on The Sopranos?
What new will we learn about the Garden State?
What's in Chris's bunker?
This is how this feels with this show.
And I said it last week.
I think we've got about, starting today, 10 episodes left.
I mean, that is what I'm working on in my brain.
It may be more.
Can't imagine it'll be less.
But in my head, I'm aiming for 10 eps.
And I think every single one of these EPS are going to have that like,
what's going to happen here feeling.
I don't even know what to say.
It's so nerve wracking to prep.
It's nerve wracking to start these episodes.
How do you guys feel?
I just, I feel great.
I'm excited.
I'm happy.
I'm thrilled to be playing right now.
And you're really bringing me down like constantly from the moment.
And this is just to show everybody like how true this is, what Troy is saying.
From the moment you walk into the studio, you just complain about being sick about every one of these last 10 episodes.
And I'm just like, I don't know, just have fun with it i guess yeah like it's not possible i'm trying to get there because i'm
listening to old episodes just like a little bit and be like man we had so much fun we were so
stupid uh and now it's just it's so stressful it's stressful for a number of reasons one i want to
make sure i i it goes off well but two i want
to make sure that these great encounters you don't just light up in a round you know what i mean and
that's that's where it gets tricky because if i'm fine with that i know i know and then we certainly
get through it and then i can check it off my list and move forward uh but you want these last
you want these last few encounters to kind of bang and i worry about like oh it's gonna be so
cool and i do this all
of a sudden baron's like well i invoke this power that i've never used your boss is dead uh so i
fear i fear for that do you remember why people started enjoying the show it's because they felt
like they were in our game and no one else was listening and they got to be a fly on the wall
troy so stop thinking about living up to expectations and just play a game for everyone
here relax buddy you're not. You're not wrong.
You're not wrong. Relax. I've lost it.
I've lost that feeling, Grant. I gotta bring it
back. You've lost that loving
feeling. Anybody else's chest hurt?
I think that's
more reason than ever to pull out that rod of wonder.
Oh, you want to see this?
I asked Troy if
a stream of 600 butterflies would make his life easier or harder before the
before this combat he didn't know those does
no i am excited there was a point towards the end of androids and aliens when i was like i was ready
i was like i'm just i want to i want to finish this. I'm ready to finish it.
And in starting to prep for the finale,
I'm still not ready in terms of the prep that needs to go into it.
But I've officially come to the point where I'm ready to end Giant Slayer.
I'm excited for the future. And I just want to, I feel like a huge weight will be lifted once it's over.
But it's a false feeling.
I don't know how else to describe it to you.
Like it is the moment that weight is lifted,
you will actively seek the heaviest thing in sight
and put it on your back and be miserable again.
Like this is a personality thing.
It has nothing to do with Giant Slayer.
It's like having these episodes live up to something.
It's just too,
it's too much.
You just gotta play how happy and relaxed you thought you'd be after star
finder.
Right.
I do remember that.
I do remember that it was fleeting.
It was a fleeting.
Yeah.
You said the same thing you said about GCP two 50.
You were like,
when that's over,
I mean,
everything's going to be
easier yeah well i mean i said it to my wife and i say this to her every week i'm like i will be
happy it's monday right now wednesday morning can't wait till wednesday morning i just got to
get through the next two days wednesday morning i'll be doing backflips and she's like you know
you say this every three days and it's's the truth, because I've got something.
We've got this today.
This is the other thing.
A little look behind the curtain.
I don't know if this has ever happened, although I think maybe it's happened once before. I think so, yeah.
Right now it is Monday, February 21st, and we're recording this in the studio.
So I've got to record this and then immediately edit it for a midnight release, which is why this is going to be 45 minutes of banter that
doesn't just to kind of make a smooth transition into the night well it's hard too because these
late late episodes later episodes we have to edit quite a bit because there's so we keep running
into all these stumbling blocks and all this stuff that we it's a high level play that we're not used
to doing and it's like it gets super super complicated and like oh crap like we got to stop and like look this up we were just lamenting when
we used to play before recording like you would get to one of these things and it'd be like all
right it's it's eight o'clock let's take a 45 minute break and get dinner and you think about
what you want to do in the middle of a combat right yeah yeah yeah we would do that all the
time and then people would just start drinking brown liquor which made it more interesting you know what we should you know we should do
and then we have the famous uh night of the yeti combat i'll never forget i don't remember told
that story let's tell it for a different time but i mean it was just brown liquor a yeti and
a misinterpretation of magic jar i just started yelling at you it's like what the fuck are you
doing the weirdest fucking plan i'm just like i just started yelling at him like what the fuck
are you doing that's that summary you just gave troy is better than any retelling of the story
that's true that's all you need to do
i've been thinking a lot about jade recently, though, because we always say we'll never get a chance to play it.
But I think because we don't play for fun anymore, it's harder to remember that no pressure feeling.
At least for me, it's harder for me to infuse that into the games because i just feel so much pressure so i wish i wish we could like squeeze in a jade regent uh getaway so
you don't have enough time right now and you're stressed out because you don't have enough time
and you want to squeeze in another game i'm sorry this makes absolutely no sense the troila valley
story that's it and eldon ring comes out in three days What am I thinking?
But I just I miss that feeling of like
It doesn't matter
Well you have to work to find it
Because I've been doing some work
To find it
And I'm getting there
I'm getting a lot better
At not constantly thinking about
Everything I do
Being good for everyone else You you know what i mean and and
i am too i'm kind of getting trying to get to the same place yeah i'm not 100 there but i'm better
than i was and i feel very excited right now yeah specifically because wait i can't wait for like
legacy like i we're just talking like i can't wait to record legacy again yeah it's gonna be so fun
but to be fair it might be because it's level four that's the thing right it's like it's still early level play so it's a
completely different story it's not like something's totally wrong with you troy like this this high
level stuff is tough but instead of focusing on rules we're getting right or wrong what i want
to try to focus on and why i'm excited today is i can't get the image out of my head of this scene and of that creature, the art of the cloud dragon,
and just this, like, the clouds turning to darkness
and the thunder and then, like, all of a sudden,
magical fear, and then you see no walls,
you see no floor, you lose the sky,
it's disorienting and everything,
and I'm like, instead of being so concerned
with my character sheet, I just want to have fun yeah it's epic epic combat you know yeah and i think we we are gonna have fun it's
gonna be it's gonna be trying i think because i'm my foot is on the gas right now you know i mean
there's some times when i'm you know coasting uh either because i'm trying to stretch things along
or i'm trying to play the game you don't want someone to quit the game. Yeah. Right now my foot is on the gas pedal and that's going to result in,
in,
in different things here that people may like or not like,
but,
uh,
it's all for the good of the story.
And so I am excited to,
to,
to get into today's episode because at the end of this,
or if it takes two weeks,
however long it takes,
this is going to be one big thing I can cross off,
uh,
my list that is already, uh, down to only a couple of things.
So last week you came upstairs to the next level of the castle, a level that you've now explored, you think, a few times already.
Because you went up that secret ladder that you found very early on in the fireplace.
You went up the winding tower where you fought the Naga.
You've been on these different levels, but getting a sense of where everything is is tricky.
However, you walk into this room that has no walls, no ceiling.
It appears to be right in the middle of the castle.
And Metro realizes she's been here.
One of the secret ladders you found led to this room when she was exploring.
I never remember.
Were you invisible?
You were ethereal?
Maybe both.
But you started exploring.
You saw this strange room with these lanterns hanging, casting a strange glow over the room.
And you were like, all right uh moving on
you went all the way to the western part of this room went up a staircase a long staircase that
took you to where the sentry turrets of the castle are and eventually to a nest with a pole uh leading
to a small little uh turret that looked over the net a lot of weird stuff that's where you found
the saddles but then you went back down and
20 episodes later, now you're back here
coming up a different staircase.
You come into the
room, trying to get a sense
of where everything is.
Moving towards that middle
pillar in the room between the two
lanterns. Think that maybe
this has something to do with the center of gravity
of the castle. Let's go explore that.
As you start to walk in, all of a sudden the sky around you becomes eerily dark and cloudy.
And then you hear a woman's laugh echo throughout the area.
And the laugh gets right into your bones, so much so that Nestor Coyne becomes panicked,
meaning on his next turn, he will drop his bow and flee.
The rest of you are shaken for one round.
Then the clouds, almost like they start to coalesce,
to form the silhouette of a colossal nebulous dragon
just floating in a dark abyss above you, ready to bounce.
God.
Really popped that P.
Everybody give me a will save.
Again?
Another one?
Well, hold on a second.
Before we do this.
Uh-huh.
I mean, I have, like, I have abilities to help Nestor.
And you are, you know, the initiative thing kind of confused me.
When did I have you roll for initiative?
After the will save, you said will save, and then you said you're panicked, but you didn't say you started running or anything.
Then you said, let's roll for initiative, and let's go a little long.
Okay. So we did that.
Then you said, like, Baron, you know uh give me that a stone cutting check
and it was all very confusing so uh i have an immediate action that i can use to help nester
and i don't want to move on to any other saves if there's something else or i just don't understand
what i should do so we started initiative order and i believe baron you moved you were thinking
about casting protection from evil but then we realized that wouldn't have helped Nestor, because
it wasn't the mind-affecting thing that would
give him an extra save. Then you were
thinking about touch of loss. You just kind of moved.
Were you thinking that it was like a surprise round
or something? Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I guess
I got confused with the thing
I saw with my stone counting out there and
all the other information.
I guess I got confused!
If it's okay, I'll just say that I have a ready to action to fire on a creature if I see it.
Okay, so you moved and ready to action.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I thought we saw a creature.
You did.
I thought we saw the dragon.
Isn't it there?
Or did it coalesce and then disappear?
No, the dragon has appeared.
So, Baron, that will...
Oh.
So, before we roll the will save, because you're saying you have an immediate action you want to take as well?
Yeah, I want to try to take an immediate action to help Nestor.
All right, first let's resolve Baron's attack.
So, Baron, fire at the dragon.
Okay, so I'm going to take...
So we're in it.
We're in it.
I've got to change the music, Grant.
We're in it.
All right, so I move five feet, so I'm going to take a full round attack action if i can see this thing i didn't realize i could see it yeah it's uh it's
forming in the clouds above you to the uh i mean it's it's it takes up the basically all got it
the sky to the south so how far away is it um it's up in the sky but i will say that it is around 75, over 75 feet away.
Over 75 feet away.
Okay.
I will.
I have a question.
Yeah. I'm concerned about something.
Why isn't there a mini on the map?
What's going on?
I'm doing a little theater of the mind here.
I don't like, you don't do theater of the mind unless something's fishy.
All right.
All right.
That's all I'm doing, theater of the mind. Get a guy to do a little theater of the mind. That's all I love about the little theater of the mind.
Get a guy
and do a little
theater of the mind
for a little while.
I don't want a ticket
to that theater.
What's the play,
Mrs. Lincoln?
Swift.
Swift action
apply.
Ford's theater
of the mind.
Ford's theater
of the mind.
I will swift action apply Bane Dragon to my weapon
and fire outside of my range increment
at this creature's regular AC then.
Okay.
I will tell you what I hit.
I should still have a pretty good chance of hitting.
That is going to be a 26 against regular AC.
It doesn't look like it hits.
Does it look like it just passed through and
there's no form? It just flies up into the clouds
and the dragon does not react to your shot.
Oh, this is so bad.
Ooh. I take back
what I said about being excited.
I know, it's so tense.
Seven years of our life.
One more move.
It boils down to this one moment.
The second attack is a 31 against regular AC.
Wait, wait, wait.
I'm sorry, what are the multiple attacks?
You can only do one attack.
I moved five feet away from Nestor.
Oh, I thought you moved ten feet.
No, I moved five.
I think I moved five feet away.
No, but you still readied the action, right?
And you can't ready a full attack.
I didn't realize there was a creature there because there was no pawn on the map last week, so I'm just fired.
No, no, no, hold on.
During his turn, could he see the creature?
No, it came after his turn.
Yeah, so it didn't materialize until your turn, so you get one shot.
Oh, okay, so I get my one shot, and then I'm done.
Perfect.
Okay.
Sir Will, now you want to use your immediate action?
Yes, I want to use an immediate action.
I guess sensing Nestor's failure sensing his cowardly
emanating off of him dogs can sense fear maybe lexington does and yeah heads up yeah maybe he
he senses here i know i like the idea that a paladin of ioma day can sense the even the slightest
dip of morale in the area due to the effects of magical fear.
And he's just like, fuck that!
You're the gloom guy on a
basketball team. Exactly.
And he's like, away with you fear!
We fear no evil!
And he is going to cast
Paladin Sacrifice on you,
which is what he had previously cast
on Baron against that
crazy tree thing.
And he will take on...
Oh, I'm sorry.
And on Metra, on her failed will save.
Prismatic Spray.
Prismatic Spray.
That's what made me insane.
I will take on Nestor's failure.
So you open up a brief but powerful divine conduit
between you and another creature,
taking on the damage and any other effects
the creature suffers.
So he just...
It's a spell spell an immediate action
and he i mean from what i can tell here he just takes on the fear instead of you question and
you're immune to it and i'm immune to it would you have had to do that and this might be overly
pedantic the second he failed it that's what i'm saying that's what i'm saying right because you
forgot that's what brings up the question
You forgot
No there are times
Is it safe to say you forgot
To do it when he initially failed
It's safe to say that
I was just waiting
To see what was happening
Right
I didn't make it at the time
I didn't interrupt you
Right
There was a secret door
There was an initiative role
And I was just kind of confused
Over what was happening
If you tell me I can't do it
Because I didn't say it immediately
That's fair
Right You also
should remember that Joe loves
holding onto his abilities until the
next episode to screw you and hoist
you on his batard. So he could have planned that.
I just had the feeling when you said that he was
panicked that I was like, uh, no he's not.
And I was excited about it, but I didn't
want to futz everything up. That said,
if you say I had to say it immediately,
I accept it. and I have alternate
options. When a creature in range is hit by
an attack or fails a saving throw,
you can cast this spell, and it's transmitted
to you.
That makes it seem like you have to do it the moment
of failure, because that's... Right, but isn't it
the moment of failure?
No. Nestor nor I have had a
turn in the second since he
failed. Right, so just looking at the initiative tracker here, that happened.
Then we rolled for initiative, and then Baron started.
So did any time pass between us failing the saving throw and us rolling initiative?
Baron's turn.
Which all happens at the same time
Right, right, right
It's nitpicky, right?
It is nitpicky
So if you say no, I get it
I'm just making my case
Yeah, yeah, God, I mean there's no
I guess the question is like
Did the effect that we were hit with
Did that happen in combat?
And were you like that will save
And then rolling for initiative?
Was that a surprise round?
That happened in a surprise round
Essentially
Yeah, I just didn't see
I thought that it was fair to say
there's nothing on here that says, you know,
you have to do it in the moment or anything like that.
It just says,
when a creature fails the saving throw,
you can cast the spell
and take the effects of the target
as if you were hit by the attack
or failed the saving throw.
You can use this against effect
that also targets you in its area which i did uh etc etc so yeah it's just uh yeah i'm not trying
to hold you over the coals i'm just trying to see what is makes the most sense here um it's all
about the player not saying it in the moment in the right right right right which is like is that you know yeah i mean i don't know
uh because immediate action yeah the one way that i would say that you're absolutely right is if it
says in the spell and this is why i've been pouring over it if it says in the spell that you have to
do it before you know the effects of the failure but like it doesn't say that right and i'm doing
that because i know the effects of the failure and
i know that it's not going to hurt me so like maybe that's shitty but it doesn't say in the
spell that you have to yeah it's it's it's it's left up to interpretation when a creature is hit
by an attack or fails a saving throw you can cast this spell like it that could be interpreted as
like you have to do it right when it fails right Right, but when I'm saving... Like a couple hours later,
hey, did you fail that saving throw?
Right, but the difference being that no actionable time has passed since he failed.
Except Baron's turn in the initiative order.
Right, which is by the rules of the game,
the same time as everything else is happening.
You know what I mean?
Sure, sure.
And what Baron did wouldn't affect anything on our side.
It's all a technicality, so just do what you want.
Right.
It's fine. Like immediate action is just... You can use it at our side. It's all a technicality, so just do what you want. Right. It's fine.
Like, immediate action is just, you can use it at any time.
Happened.
Right.
So.
We rolled for initiative, and now it's, all right, I'll say you can do it.
Okay.
I'll say you can do it.
Fantastic.
Awesome.
All right, so you take on that fear effect in your immune defense.
And I'm immune to fear.
So bad. Yeah. No, that fear effect in your immune defense. And I'm immune to fear. So bad.
Yeah.
No, that's my first reaction, too.
It's like, if he just said we couldn't do it, I'd be like, all right, we have a chance.
We have a chance.
Yeah.
Now I know we don't.
Now I know.
We're totally fucked.
Now everybody roll a well save.
Okay.
Okay.
Oh, no.
Is it a spell?
Is it a spell like a thick?
Yes.
Yes, it is.
Okay.
Oh! And we are shaken, right?
Yes, you are shaken if you
pass that save.
If you pass that save, you are shaken.
That's what the minus two is for.
Now, Nestor is
not shaken.
And I am not shaken.
Right. Because it is a fear effect i've just no i've just taken it
from him you took his failure right or no so as he says i took his fear on the effects of his full
failure wow okay uh come on that's what paladins are for, man! All right, what did everyone roll for a will save?
I rolled a 25.
Okay.
What about Lexington?
And roll spell resistance as well for Lexington.
You roll spell resistance for Lexington. You roll spell resistance for Lexington!
That's fair.
It's a caster level, John.
What do you got?
20.
Fail.
Okay, so don't worry about Lexington.
Don't worry about Lexington.
What was Metra's will save?
Will save is my best save.
And I rolled a natural 7 for a 21.
For a 21.
Baron.
It's a real Twitter!
It's a 36.
And Nestor coin.
Well, we got these dice.
Oh, no.
In the mail.
That's what I rolled.
Yeah.
So someone sent us these, like, very nice cat's eye mineral dice.
As far as I could see, there was no return address.
There was no note or anything.
But there were dice that, for each of us, it says, for the natural 20 on the die, it's each of our names.
And for the natural one would be, there's the name Joe.
The funny thing is, is that there were only four dice.
So there's no die for Joe.
These gorgeous cat's eye dice.
Very nice dice.
No die for Joe.
But thank you, whoever this was.
Whoever you are, no thank you.
But I rolled a skid.
A natural 20.
A natural 20.
20.
Yeah.
And I rolled an 18 on mine.
I used the same one.
Did you use it, Matthew? I did too, and I rolled a 20. Yeah. And I rolled an 18 on mine. I used the same one. Did you use it, Matthew?
I did too, and I rolled a seven.
Okay.
I'm so glad you are enjoying your new die.
Joe, you want to die?
Damn it.
You want to die?
I got one here.
What's your name on it?
All right. The image of the dragon comes out and immediately starts to uncoalesce and disappear back into the clouds.
I have a feeling.
Phantasmal killer or some shit?
And now it's Nestor's turn.
Audiovisual hallucination?
Yeah, I didn't detect evil.
Now, if this thing appeared to be seven or 80 feet above us, it wouldn't have reached there. But I detected evil in this room and didn't detect evil. Now, if this thing appeared to be seven or 80 feet above us, it wouldn't have reached there.
But I detected evil in this room and didn't detect evil.
And Troy never makes a mistake on that.
This is a 60-foot cone.
No, you were detecting it, and I was using the arrows to make sure you caught anything there.
It now stays in initiative order, and it's nestor's turn so nestor i think he
makes it a point to always be in control at all times i think that's one of the ways that his
various trauma traumas over the course of his life have manifested.
So any loss of control will manifest in this
murderous rage at whoever caused him to do this.
So he senses he knows what happened.
He feels that wave again of that total loss of control and panic.
And it's so antithetical to his own self-conception that he knows like he feels like will take it away
and there's almost something like gratitude is in the back of his mind but more than anything
his his eyes narrow at the thought of finding whatever it was that did this to him.
So he's just going to hold and wait until he sees something to kill.
Okay.
Sir Will?
Sir Will, Lexington is bucking a little bit as we are somewhat attacked by this creature, but don't know.
I'm going to roll a quick perception check.
It's going to be pointless, but looking around.
What is this evil?
15 perception.
Yeah, just as quickly as that dragon formed in the clouds, it has receded,
and the sky has gone clear again.
Oh, the whole sky is clear.
Yeah.
It seems like there's nothing here.
No, just the pillar and the lanterns
Oh
It's starting to go clear
I should say
I will remind you that Metra can see anything
That's invisible or on the ethereal plane
Right
In that case Sir Will is going to
I'm going to ready an action
And I will cast A spell if the clouds darken
or any visage of this dragon appears again.
Okay.
And he's kind of looking up where it was,
so I'll ready an action.
All right.
So Nestor has held his action,
Sir Will is ready an action,
and now goes to Mettra's turn.
Can I try to identify...
Can I roll a knowledge check or a spellcraft check on that
dragon, see if it was a spell that I recognize
or a particular type of magic?
Uh, yeah, roll
uh, god.
Sounds like spellcraft, right?
It's spellcraft to identify a spell
as they are being cast. As it's being cast.
It's always so tricky,
I never have been able to...
Can you roll a check on somebody else's turn?
That's what I always figured out.
I was so confusing about it.
Yeah, right.
Yeah, that's a good point, too.
Yeah, what the...
Yeah, I mean, yeah, it's a free action,
so technically you could.
It's a free action to roll spellcrafts?
Is it?
Yeah, well, I guess...
It's a knowledge check.
Yeah, it's basically a knowledge check.
Yeah.
You know, some skill checks you could consider.
Oh, no, that's an action.
But spellcraft doesn't say it's an action.
Identify.
It's identify a spell.
Yeah, I don't know.
But that doesn't really do it either.
And then detect magic is you got to hold it for a few things.
You're trying to do this on the dragon that disappeared?
Yeah.
Check out the pillars then and the lanterns.
Knowledge Arcana.
If you can't, check out the dragon because they still remain.
I think there's somebody here.
I think there's a female caster, right?
We heard a woman's laugh.
I think it's Nadia.
Or Nalbia. Nalbia. Nalbia. there's a female caster right we heard a woman's laugh i think it's uh nadia or nabia now now nabia nabia nadia is her uh her secret twin sister uh-huh okay here we go uh ready for that
twist we're gonna take at least 15 episodes to wrap this up now knowledge arcana identify a
spell effect that is in place and it's 20 plus the spell level. Okay, whatever.
That's close enough that we can fudge it, because I want you to be able
to do something.
So, Knowledge Arcana. Or identify a spell that just
targeted you. That's Knowledge Arcana.
25 plus the spell level.
25 plus the spell level.
25, because of the stupid
shaking condition.
If it was a cantrip.
We're in love, Seth. Yeah, no, yourip if it was a cantrip I'd have you.
Yeah, no, you don't know, but I'm glad we learned that.
We've always done that wrong.
We use spellcraft to acknowledge
Arcana as interchangeable.
I knew that the whole time.
I didn't know.
Identify a spell being cast on you.
DC 25 plus a spell level.
Come on. You're a spell level.
Alright, Metris, so yeah, you don't know. But you still got your action. Yeah, I do still have my action DC 25 plus a spell level Come on You're a spell level Alright Metro
So yeah you don't know
But you still got your action
Yeah I do still have my action
And I'm wondering
If the only
Only action
The only reasonable thing
To do in a situation like this
Is to draw the
Rod of Wonder after all
And use it
Just see what happens
What applies
No I will
Was this your card?
Is this your card?
I used to love that
When I didn't know What to do as my sorcerer I would just cast Prestidigitate Is this your card? Is this your card? I used to love that when I didn't know what to do as my sorcerer.
I would just cast Prestidigitate.
Is this your card?
I will instead...
Let's do a little protection here.
That's a good idea.
A little buff?
A little Bufferino?
Buff Bagwell?
Buff Bagwell.
I'll use the quick and meta magic rod to cast mirror image
on myself i'll roll for that in a minute yeah and then i'm gonna cast uh oh do we want does
everyone want some haste or do we want some uh particulate form casters so i don't think
critical hits are going to be as uh as in play probably part of me wants for all of us to cast
fly on ourselves and go down the secret path
that we found and just run away from this dragon now.
The dragon is only in your mind, Grant.
Yes.
Or is it?
Let's do haste. It's just more utility
until we figure out what we're dealing with.
Yeah. Okay.
Unless I get pandered again.
Hey, yeah. We'll get an extra movement to run away. Alright then. Top get panicked again. Hey, yeah.
He gets an extra movement to run away.
Alright then, top of the next round, it goes to
Baron. The shaken condition is now added.
The shaken condition
is now over for you, yeah.
Baron will do his own perception check
after seeing Sir Will do a crappy
one and does not do much better at
25.
How do you see someone do a bad perception check?
I just see, like, just a sound and light enters Sir Will's dumb brain
and him not process it very well.
He was looking at the ground.
I don't see anything up there, sir.
Looking down at the ground.
You see the same thing as Sir Will.
Like, the dragon has receded into the clouds,
and the clouds have started to part, and the sky is getting clear again,
and all that remains in the room are these two floating lanterns and the pillar.
Can I do a religion check on the pillar?
Sure.
Oh, great.
Religion applies.
Come on, baby.
17?
It's John the Baptist!
No!
Oh, damn.
Yeah, no, you don't know.
All right.
Baron's going to move into the room. He's going to move 10 feet forward towards Sir Will.
And he's going to be shoulder to shoulder.
And he's going to look at Sir Will and says, watch this.
And he's going to fire a shot at the pillar.
Okay.
Ooh.
That is going to be a 33 to hit the pillar.
It hits the pillar, bounces off, and is lodged right in Lexington's left eye.
Sure, put it to me, John!
You fool!
Lexington crumbles to the ground.
Arrogant fool!
My plan has finally completed itself.
Watch this, I can bounce a bullet off that column
right into Lex's eye.
Twang!
I've been practicing.
Okay, well, that's just...
Very impressive.
Nothing happens.
The working theory I had there
was that it was similar to that cube
we found on another place,
the castle that I asked about last week,
and you said if we turned that upside down,
it would screw with the castle somehow,
so I was thinking this might be magical in its own way and i thought maybe shooting it might do something weird to the dragon or the castle or but it doesn't seem to
have all it does is blind lexington so the man with a hammer every problem looks like a nail yeah So All of a sudden The sky
Begins to darken again
Eerily dark and cloudy
They start gathering super fast around you
And it is night time
And it goes to Nestor's turn
I'm just gonna keep
There's nothing to shoot at
I'm just gonna keep holding He's just kind to shoot at. I'm just going to keep holding.
Okay.
It's like he's just kind of scanning the clouds, waiting for a shape to appear.
Sir Will?
Same thing.
He's readying a spell if a shape appears or an enemy that is visible appears, yeah.
Metra?
I'll cast Fly on myself.
Metra, boom, cast Fly.
And I'll take off.
And you'll take off into the air.
I'll just rise straight up, basically.
Or not straight up, but you know.
She looks like Storm.
Yeah.
Rises up into the clouds.
You know what happens to a cloud dragon when it gets hit by lightning?
Same thing as everything else.
Well, probably not actually.
No, actually, it gets healed.
It's probably immune to electricity.
Laughs.
It tickles.
I'm going to put this little wind icon on my token so you know I'm flying.
Sir Will is going to ready chain lightning.
It's going to fire at the dragon if it appears.
We're having a good time.
Oh, we should just cast cloud kill on it.
That would do it.
The perfect spell. That is the most Nick Lowe solution
Sorry Nick
It kills anything in the clouds right
It kills clouds
Specifically kills clouds
How high up do you go Metro
80 feet
I can't go 80 feet
Damn it
Oh, I can, I'm hasted
I'll go, how tall is the ceiling?
It's sky
How tall is the fake sky?
How high do you go?
How fast do you go at that?
Totally open sky
Rocket upwards
It looks like totally open sky
It looks like it keeps going forever
You said the giant was about 75 feet away from us
The dragon
So I will go up
65 feet
He's like slow playing
Do you go in the direction of the dragon or do you go straight up
I can't go straight up
I mean I could after I fly a ship
But I go at an angle
Once you reach 50 feet your head butts up against the sky.
Oh, so it is like the Tropicana.
It is like the Tropicana.
Oh, interesting.
Okay.
So you're just like, what?
It looks like sky, but you feel your head bumping up against the open sky.
Illusions, Michael.
And it comes back to Baron. Baron, what do you do?
There's nothing to shoot at.
Nothing to shoot at.
You want to shoot at the sky?
No. I shoot the darkness.
Pardon me, just want to go at that cloud bridge
I found.
Yeah.
Go, Sheriff.
I'll follow you.
Baron's going to hop onto the broom of flying.
Okay.
And get ready to go.
He'll move next to Nestor.
Well, yeah, it's probably standard action hop on the broom,
and then he moves next to Nestor. So standard action hop on the broom, you fly back to S, basically.
And I've just been telling the broom, since we've kind of been going on these dangerous paths outside, to follow me.
Because you can command the broom to go anywhere, and that's what it's been doing.
What's the broom's name?
Yeah, what kind of personality does the broom have?
The broom's name is Broomhilda, obviously.
Obviously.
And the personality...
What about Broomo?
I like Broomo.
We don't talk about brumo
all right
manuel o'brien
i'm sick of these incanto
references constant
stream of incanto references
yeah i mean
that's my first one
that's what you think
so that's your turn that's that's
my turn so that's your turn that's that's my turn so that's your turn okay uh naming
a broom suddenly that was my turn that's a full round action suddenly in the clouds the dark
clouds are getting ever darker by the second you hear that mocking laughter once again Everybody roll a will save.
Oh, come on.
So do I get my spell or not?
Because I don't see anything.
What is your spell?
What is my spell?
Oh, what was your action?
You readied an action.
If you saw something to cast a spell, you don't see anything.
You just hear something.
A perceived direct fucking threat.
Fuck's sake.
We already had to roll a save on this.
And we're still shaken if we
saved against this earlier at this point, correct?
For the purposes of... No.
Everyone has come to me and moved once again
out of the range where I give them all
a bonus to fear effects.
Yeah, so you hear this laughter.
Sir Will, you don't have to worry about this.
Lexington,
spell resistance. That's going to worry about this. Lexington, spell resistance.
That's going to be a 23. Fail.
So I just need Baron,
Metra, and Nestor
as Will say. Baron, what did you roll?
I rolled a 30, but Brumo
he rolled.
Baron's good.
Metra, how'd you do?
25. 25, And Nestor?
23
23
So the laughter does not pierce into your bones
I hate this thing
Whatever it is
Yeah this is really annoying
I hate it
I think haunt should be just chopped out of this game
If this is acting like a haunt right now
Oh it does sound like a haunt
It does behave like a haunt
Just in terms of it being inscrutable
Yeah
And like you don't know how to proceed And it's just annoying and haunt. It does behave like a haunt. Just in terms of it being inscrutable, like you don't know how to proceed,
and it's annoying and can cause panic.
It does.
But haunts don't roll spell resistance.
Right.
And that's one thing.
That's a key indicator is rolling a perception check first
to see if there's like a telltale sign.
Right.
But I don't think that happens.
I'm just saying it behaves.
It walks like a haunt.
Yeah, it walks like a haunt. It quacks like a haunt. Yeah, it walks like a haunt.
It quacks like a haunt.
And yet it's a platypus.
And yet it's, right.
And yet it's a mini-boss.
They produce fennel?
Yeah, it's a mini-boss.
Yeah, it's a mini-boss.
All right.
For Nestor's turn,
he will move within 10 feet of Sir Will.
No.
I'm going to move to you.
Yes.
Okay.
It's not your turn.
Because, I know. I'm just letting everybody know what they're all going to do tactically. Come to move to you. Yes! Okay. It's not your turn.
Because, I know.
I'm just letting everybody know what they're all going to do tactically.
Come to the Skybridge.
Come to the Skybridge, Joe.
Oh, you know what?
It connects directly to the hospital.
So, Nestor will take his turn, and he's just going to move adjacent to Sir Will, knowing that this is where the safest place is.
No, no, no, no.
I said I was going to move to you.
So, stay there. Well, I thought this would say. I said I was going to move to you. So stay there.
Well, I thought this would say,
because if I can get closer to this thing
and have a better angle,
if it does show up.
I think we're all leaving.
Okay.
All right, then I'll say it.
At least exploring this secret whatever
until this coward caster shows themselves.
Okay.
Out of the sky,
just to the south of where Nestor and Baron are standing, you both at the same time see this small blue bird just appear out of the or as it's moving towards you this beautiful blue bird starts
to spin wildly
until it forms the shape
of a whirlwind that
goes directly on both of
your spots. You are surrounded
by this whipping cyclone
of air. Give me
a reflex save. Give me the action spellcraft
check.
Yeah!
Sure.
That's 26.
26. Not a spell.
Okay.
You see this bird, it just
turns into this whirlwind.
28. I'm no longer shaking.
It is a spell.
No, it's not a spell.
It used some sort of ability to turn into
a whirlwind. What did it's not as well. Yeah, no, it just used some sort of ability to turn into a whirlwind.
What did you get, Nestor, with your very low reflex?
Yeah, a 30 for Nestor.
Okay, and what about Baron?
28.
28, okay.
So, you do not take any damage.
Give me a second reflex save to see if you are lifted by the power of this.
Don't lift me!
Don't lift me up.
29.
Baron?
31.
31.
Okay.
The correct answer was natural one, and neither of you said it.
So you are not lifted, but however, this thing is concealing all vision around you.
Interesting.
Interesting.
Did we get the sense
that this is in response to us being
by this exit? Not necessarily.
It just all of a sudden flew
out of the clouds and turned
into this whirlwind around you
that is 15 feet
in diameter on all sides.
Excuse me, 10 feet.
Does it have complications for flying?
Will it affect my flight check?
Is there anything in the spell that it says that?
Oh, that's a good, not a spell, but
Good question
Where you are flying
Basically for mechanical purposes, each round that you stay
In this space, you're going to have to roll these saves
So if you move to get out of it
You won't have to
Flying, just, where you're flying you get a save every round, basically.
But you already passed the save, so it doesn't matter.
It's just dependent on how long you decide to stay in there.
So that happened, and now it is Nestor's turn.
It's come back around again.
But things have changed.
Yeah, I just don't...
I don't know what to do.
I don't have the knowledge, skills
to figure out what's going on.
Yeah.
I keep holding, I guess.
I don't know if I can shoot arrows at this whirlwind.
Yeah, it's tricky, right?
Part of being a player is like,
I feel like I gotta do something,
but sometimes waiting is the best response.
It's like I could do something stupid or ill-advised.
Right.
That's always an option.
But, yeah, I'm just going to –
I think he's just really focused on seeing a target,
just waiting for a target to appear that he can kill.
Because you're still so angry about that feeling, right?
Yeah, yeah.
He's just like –
all the wind is just buffeting him in the face,
and he's just like,
it's not even blinking.
He's just looking around like a hawk,
trying to find something to kill.
Yeah, it makes sense.
And you don't have the luxury that Sir Will and Metra have,
where they can just like,
use these rounds to buff.
Yep.
And it does come to Sir Will then.
So what do you do, Sir Will? Are you going to hang
out and wait? Or is there things
you can do here?
No, I don't think at this point. He's kind of
tired of it. Curse this
infernal darkness! He's looking around.
No enemy in sight.
He's just going to say,
Armaday, light our
path away from this place!
Or defeat whatever it is that
hides here.
And he's going to cast Good Hope
on everybody. Oh.
So that'll be a nice little boon, and
it should buff your saves
next time if it comes around again.
Buff your saves.
So that'll be everybody but Metro, right?
Because that's one living creature per level, no two
of which may be more than 30 feet apart.
No, it's everybody.
And she's 65 feet up.
Oh, I'm sorry.
Yeah.
Fuck Metra.
All right, yeah.
I'm looking at her on the map.
I'm like, she's 15 feet away from me.
What are you talking about?
I put the little wind symbol there.
Yeah.
On the giant slayer maps, I play with us at about this size.
So I did not see your little mind.
Joe made the okay symbol with his hand.
I am going to
then move toward Nestor and Baron
and say, Metro! Call into
the darkness. We're going
into the secret tunnel!
Okay, alright, so you start to move
towards that, we said
like Dark Souls fog wall
basically. There's a place in the sky
where Baron sees the
outline of a ladder that's
identical to the ladder that
Metra climbed up but
placed differently in the room on the other side of the
room so you move
over there and you move directly into
this whirlwind so well
into the whirlwind
15 feet wide do you not see the
it's only around Baron on the map.
It's only on Baron Square.
I thought it was just unique to that.
Oh, okay.
No, no, no, no.
Let me show you what it looks like.
And in Troy's defense, he did say what size it was.
It's just the map that is not correct right now.
Can you guys not see the John Ski?
We just see a little five-foot John Ski.
It wasn't even on Baron Square for me, so I just reloaded.
Can't spare a square?
So you didn't have the aura visible? Yeah. All i see yeah this is nonsense all right this dumb nonsense great uh i'll just stand outside of this swirling and say
chef are you alive in there what we're going through will we're going through
and he just charges into the fucking wind and i will i'm
assuming get swept up into the air this is going to be wild and crazy that's oh yeah that's wild
and crazy here we go so you walk right into the whirlwind yeah okay give me a reflex save for
you know you and lexington i'm gonna need four of them i'm really looking for natural ones here
you guys have good reflexes well sir will doesn't no not sir will it's kind of a dumb move 23 okay you're all right um check the
stand and saddle oh my god i'll tell you what matthew you hear that you train us you are very
very you should gm this game sometime um wow no thanks. Looking at Troy, it seems detrimental to his health.
Oh, it's horrible.
Don't you remember the banter?
He was very excited to be GMing today.
It was very...
Yeah.
Take it back if you don't want it.
I'll go in there.
Go in there.
Okay.
I mean, I'm just trying to do something.
Mm-hmm.
He says, we're in here.
Come on, we're going this way.
Sir Will looks at the wind and says, I hope it will protect me and rides into it.
You threw caution and yourself into the wind.
What am I going to do?
Stand outside of it again?
Stand here another fucking minute?
All right.
What was your roll?
What was Sir Will's reflex there?
23.
Okay.
And now those are to see if you take damage from it.
You know what?
I'll say that's just to see if you get lifted into the air.
The damage would be on the wind's turn, as it were.
So don't worry about that.
At that moment, coming out of the sky to the south,
where you saw this nebulous dragon emerge,
Metro, you notice that just this billowing cloud of fog
begins to emerge and start to float,
as if a cloud itself was starting to float into the room.
But there's something in the middle of that cloud,
something that you see as the wind starts to part ever so often.
It is, in fact, a cloud giant.
And it rushes into the room right up next to where Sir Will, Baron, and Nestor are.
And then you see a second one do the exact same thing.
Whoa.
Oh, no.
So, make sure I have my spaces right here. So two cloud giants double move out of the sky itself
and rush directly underneath you, Metra,
in the direction of Nestor, Baron, and Sir Will.
But because Sir Will moved,
they had to double move to get there.
Things have changed.
It is Metra's turn.
Can we see them?
You see them swirling.
I mean, you don't forget the whirlwind that's around you
is providing concealment,
and then the obscuring mist around them
is providing concealment.
Now, those don't overlap.
So we can see them.
Yeah, so Sir Will...
Because they're both adjacent to us?
Yeah, Sir Will, you can see the one to the south,
and you guys can't.
The other one's ten feet away.
There's one and only one cloud giant upon us!
Yeah, the other one is ten feet away,
the one to the north,
and then the one to the south is five feet away from Sir Will.
Right next to him, like full attack range.
Oh dear.
And you said this is an obscuring mist?
Yeah, that's what you've seen them
use before. You've also seen them use Fog Clown,
but you would think Obscuring Mist because it
moved with them. Yeah.
Okay, I will Fireball then
in such a way as to hit both of the
Giants, but
not my friends, and burn up
the Obscuring Mist. Alright, so you're going to aim a Fireball
basically behind them, so it won't
hit your friends, But the blast.
That fireball might also hit the pillar, which would take out Lexington's other eyeball.
I think that's the rules of the game.
That's true.
Go ahead and show me on the map where you'd like to put it, as it is important.
Oh, interesting.
Okay.
Let me get my little ruler here.
So I got a 20-foot radius.
And I'm far enough from the air that it won't hit me.
So let's do that square right.
Wait, now I just lost me.
I lost the square.
Don't forget these cloud giants take up nine squares,
even though they're pawn.
What's the problem here?
Why are we splitting hairs on this?
This one writes schmah.
All right, so you want to put it behind them, about 20, 25 feet behind them, near the direction of that first lantern, the westernmost lantern.
Yes.
All right.
The top one rolls a reflex save, 19.
That is a pass, exactly.
Really?
And then the other one rolls a 21. That is a pass, exactly. Really? And then the other one rolls a 21.
That passes. Okay, so they both pass.
Let me give you Dimash.
The Obscuring Mist is gone.
Gone.
That's huge.
Huge. Of course, the
Whirlwind is still there.
I mean, of course the Whirlwind
is still there.
The weird blue bird. What is that is that i know 16 points of damage fire damage 16 points they say is that all you got
i don't respond you don't respond tactically i think it would be better to remain silent
they get so angry at you for not saying anything
you're gonna make a mistake now
alright 16 points of damage
very good
new round
Baron's turn
Baron you're just
being buffeted by this.
What are you doing?
I'm going to take my turn.
Oh, Nestor's going to take his turn.
So would Nestor understand that if standing in the midst of this whirlwind,
that it would be pointless to shoot arrows at something when he's standing in it?
Yeah, I can't remember.
I don't think it actually affects your range,
but the concealment does, where
they're more than five feet away from you.
You can't target them. Okay. Alright.
So he's going to have to
do a move to get out of the
wind. Not technically.
Technically, because they're visible to your ally,
you know, I just say,
it's right there! And you can fire at 50% mischance.
But if you move out, it's not even a mischance.
Right, yeah.
But it's not a full attack.
I just don't want to sacrifice.
Look, I sacrifice so much if I don't get a full attack.
It's just massive.
That's like, that's a problem in Pathfinder.
Honestly.
Yeah, well, they did away with it.
They did, yeah.
This is a huge way. It's like, that, they did away with it. They did, yeah. This is a huge...
That's why the game
gets so static sometimes
because you just can't move
or else you're sacrificing
hundreds and hundreds
of points.
And what I've learned
in GMing high-level play
is try and get you
to only be able
to take one attack
as much as possible.
It's everything.
Metra had to move,
by the way,
otherwise she'd have to
roll a harder check.
Oh, Metra had to move! Old moving Metra, they call her. Old moving Metra had to move, by the way, otherwise she'd have to roll a hover check. Oh, Metra had to move!
Old moving Metra, they call her.
Oh man, I need to refill my Metra card so I can get on the subway later.
Nestor, if he has to move, he's going to make the most of it.
He's going to hastedly dash away from the giants, out of the cloud at an angle, back towards the far wall of the corridor we came into.
He's going to do a somersault, pop up on his knees, and fire off a shot at the southernmost giant.
Okay.
Okay.
That's a natty 16 for 27 points of damage. Oh, yeah, dude. 27 points of damage.
27 points
of damage.
He'd already taken a paltry
16. We'll add
27 to that. Okay.
Okay, not bad.
Not bad.
Let's go to Baron.
Baron, what do you want to do? You're still caught in this
whirlwind.
So importantly, Troy mentioned that these giants used a double move action,
which prevented them from not only not full attacking, but not single attacking.
However, that does not preclude them from taking attacks of opportunity.
Baron will reach into his bag of tricks and...
No, no, no.
They cannot take attacks of opportunity.
Why is that?
Because they can't see you at all. Oh. you're not visible to them baron is 10 feet away even though they have
reach um do you have concealment total concealment so they cannot see me so sir will it would provoke
correct because you have regular concealment but fantastic at 10 feet away you have regular concealment. But Baron, at 10 feet away, you have total concealment. Baron is going to fly at an angle 40 feet away until he's within 40 feet above the cloud.
So he's outside of the cloud and can fire down all the giants.
That whirlwind is only 20 feet high.
So you basically fly up and back.
Up and back.
And then you take one shot against which one?
The one further to the south.
Okay, the one that Nestor already hit.
And of course, Metro hit as well with the...
Fly ball!
That is an absolute banger of a hit
with a 35 against Touchy.
Sizzle!
Yep.
Shit roll on the damage.
uh shit roll on the damage uh that is going to be a total of uh 28 points of damage 28 points of damage but that guy has been hit so nester has backed up got a shot off baron has
flown backwards on the broom got a shot off so only sir will remains in this whirlwind. Alright, the whirlwind
there that is around Sir Will
flies
over
to
Nestor.
Interesting. Pinning Nestor against the back
there. Now Baron
and Sir Will are completely
safe, but it puts Nestor in a real
tricky position because he is he doesn't have a good space to move
to try and get that full attack off.
That's what that thing does.
And then this is going to be interesting here.
It is Sir Will's turn,
and you are alone with these two cloud giants,
but you've got a crazy AC.
No, I don't.
This is bad.
You used to have a crazy AC.
It requires a little bit of work to get it,
and so when you get swarmed like this with no warning,
it's a little tough.
Trying to gauge AOEs here. I don't want baron to get hurt but this is a problem
this is a real problem and part of your ac being lower too is that you uh helped nester by not
being panicked right could you have used that turn to help loosen it uh yeah but i wouldn't have so
it's it's really just because i didn't see any physical danger yeah i didn't nobody was
hitting ac so i wasn't going to use that quite yet so they got on us fast um and they sacrificed
their attack to double move and get right up and in your business yeah which is always dangerous
if that whirlwind wasn't there they'd be already they'd already be dead. Okay. So Sir Will is going
to...
Okay. Here we go.
As a swift action, he's going to
once again speak
out to his
deity and say,
I lean on you now, I owe my day. Protect me!
With a litany of defense
which will boost his AC.
Okay, so he's going to do that.
Oh man, this is rough, dude.
This is a really rough situation.
Can you handle two full attacks from these guys?
This is bad.
You know what?
It's fine. It's fine.
It's fine.
I don't,
I hate to put it out on,
on,
whatchamacallit,
on Baron,
but like,
we might have to share this one.
Let's see.
All right.
Oh,
this is horrifying.
Oh man.
Yeah,
I don't really,
I'm trying to do the math. I'll tell you what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to do the math i'll tell you what i'm trying to do i'm
trying to do the math on on provoking to cast a spell and if i cast defensively if i'm going to
like basically auto pass or if it's too much of a risk to take and if i need to like get out of there um oh never mind i'm fine i will uh cast defensively
now a natural one always fails cast defensively no no all right then i auto succeed if you want
okay uh because it is a second level spell that i'm casting according to hero lab it is yeah it is plus 20 versus dc19 so uh i will
cast another spell of defense for as my standard action all right this is good all right great i
didn't think that my concentration check would be that uh and now he will stand his ground. Oh, no. He will move.
Now he will move 10 feet back.
To provoke from both of them?
To provoke.
Sorry, I'm trying to see.
Oh, Baron's in the air.
Yeah.
All right, great.
Then I will move back enough that they can't full attack me this round.
Okay, but that will provoke from both of them.
Correct.
Okay. I think it's fair to say they didn't have power attack this round. Okay, but that will provoke for both of them. Correct. Okay.
I think it's fair to say they didn't have power attack on yet, because they have not attacked.
So I'll take that off.
I was just preparing.
All right, the lower one attacks first.
That is going to be a 36 to hit.
That is a miss.
Okay. And then the second That is a miss. Woo! Okay.
And then the second one.
Another miss with a 35.
Okay.
Great.
Okay, now.
Let's see here.
I can still get one of them to full attack you Because of their 15 feet of reach
But I don't think the other one can
No
20 feet away from you
Neither of them can
No, I can't
Watch
I'll take that southern one
Because it's their turn
Move up 5 feet
Ah, the old 5 foot
The old 5 foot Jonski
Now the other one has to get right up in your grill
We'll deal with him in a second.
Let's do the full attack.
Now I don't know if I should put power attack.
And so I don't think I will.
I think with you and Baron, with Baron's AC bonus against Giants,
and your just naturally high bone, I'm going to leave it off.
I'm going to leave it off, and let's do
three attacks. See what happens here.
And the other guy's
only going to get one, but he will close the
distance, which is shrinking the room
for all of you guys.
That is a miss
with a 33. That is a
miss. And then
a Joe is a natural one, right?
Yes!
Oh, you will confirm that.
Yeah, let's see.
To confirm, that is a 26.
It occurred to me, Joe, you could have taken any of these dice,
just the one of us that you hated the most,
and just made that the natural one.
Maybe Joe the natural 20.
Yeah, take it.
Wow.
Sure, yeah.
Dang it.
Maybe this whole time, one of these dice was made for you.
They sensed the innate rivalry between you and Troy, for example.
Then they wanted to deprive another one of us of a die.
Yeah.
And not just Joe.
Oh, man.
Okay.
Let's just jump in with something here.
All right.
Oh, man.
Okay.
Let's just jump in with something here.
All right.
Let's do Joshua from Tampa Bay, Florida.
Oh, let's go Bucks.
Butterphalanges.
Hey, Joshua.
As you attempt your attack, you lose your grip on your weapon and injure yourself trying to regain control of it.
Take 2d8 damage and a minus 5 penalty to your next attack roll.
Oh, nice.
So 2d8.
Drop the weapon, right?
Or no?
No.
Basically, in not dropping it, he hurts himself,
and then he's a little unwieldy for his next swing.
11 points of damage.
That was an 8 and a 3.
That's pretty good.
We got an 8 there, Josh. And so the last attack will only hit on a natural 20,
and even then I don't think it will be a crit because it won't
confirm. Can't confirm it. Yeah, I can't
confirm it. Another 20.
No, so a miss.
All right!
Standing against the foes of evil.
Fumble. Now, question.
We're the foes of evil. Baron, how high did you
say you flew up? So I had
haste on, and I think haste affects the fly speed of the broom, too.
This is a question I had.
Or does it just stay where it is?
I think it's my speed, so I don't know.
It's a real question.
I would assume the broom doesn't go faster.
Okay.
Then I'm probably about 30-something feet in the air.
I don't know.
All your forms of movement increase.
Yeah.
The broom becomes my form of movement?
What is it called?
The broom of flying?
Yeah.
I don't think it's...
The target of haste is only people.
Right.
Broom is able to fly.
Broom can travel any destination.
The broom of flying has a speed of 40 when it has no rider.
Yeah, no, it's just your movement.
So you are...
So I was hasted to 40.
So then I'm probably like 30.
If I move back five feet at an angle,
I'm probably like 35 feet in the air, let's say.
35 feet in the air.
Okay, this is why I'm asking.
Yeah.
Because this giant's going to close the distance.
Sure.
It has 15 feet of reach.
Now I'm going to see with its height, can it hit you?
Because if it can, I might want to like cleave down.
Oh.
Use cleave.
I like that.
A vertical cleave.
I'll probably miss both of you because you have the highest ACs, but I think it'd be
a cool move.
I love it.
I just don't know.
How tall they are?
18 feet tall.
And you're 35 feet up. And they have 15 feet of reach.
Oh, yeah. I'm two feet outside of the reach!
Two feet outside of it!
Oh!
Oh!
Some cloud giants can even reach
heights of up to 21 feet, but that's fine.
I'm going to go with the 18.
It's just going to be one single
attack on Sir Will,
which is going to miss without a nat 20.
Man, if he was wearing heels, he could have done it.
If only he looked at him this morning, too.
And he was like, nah.
He was just like, I'm going to be exhausted by the end of the day if I'm wearing these.
Napoleon Blunt.
He has them under his desk.
You know, I just, I thought about doing, I thought about doing another Obscuring Mist here.
We had a drinks thing after, I was thinking.
Nah, I just want to go home.
But with Nestor out of the way and Baron.
He left the heels under his desk.
Yes.
Yeah, you know, I think I am tempted to do Obscuring Mist here.
No.
Yes, please.
I'm going to stay right there, actually.
Damn it.
I'm going to stay right there and just do one attack on Sir Will,
which is really going to hit within that 20.
Better.
But I think you're really high right now, 38.
No, I miss.
What did I have to hit?
Was I even close?
46.
You're really high right now if you thought that
was gonna hit him 46 so now do you got anyone tell you have to bring it down yeah he brings
it down and just this flash of white lights boom you shall not pass that giant steps up and misses
it like tried to clip baron on the way down and uh just scra beneath the broom, came down and crashed onto the ground next to Sir Will.
And it is Metra's turn.
Okay.
What I really want to do...
Tell me what you want.
What you really want.
Misread the thing I want to do again.
Just read the thing
I want to do again. Just read the thing I want to do.
We have fought a lot of these guys.
A lot of cloud giants in this place.
And I just don't understand.
If they were supposed to be good, did they all get turned by Volstis?
Turned?
Or were these ones bad already?
And they came in
and took over the castle?
Did these guys work here before?
Well, you remember
what Renfaw said,
like when...
Renfaw says a lot of things.
He does say a lot of things.
He says a lot.
But when Azarth died,
there was a struggle for power
where basically Nalbia,
his wife,
was like,
I'm taking over.
And there were people
that were loyal to Azarth that was like, this doesn taking over. And there were people that were loyal to his art
that was like, this doesn't seem like a good idea. So it
caused a schism in the community.
And that left it perfect
for Nalbia and her brother
to bring on the Stormtitan and cause a risk.
So some people chose to go one
way, some people died. It is still
the craziest backstab that you've ever
told us about when Nalbia went out to Remphal
and was like, we gotta land to fix the castle.
And that's when they shot in the spikes.
I was rereading my notes.
That's just so cold.
It's cold.
Yeah.
Renfall died because he was on the side that said, come on.
And there were other giants that went with Renfall, but they fell.
They Ren fell.
I'm going to I can't do what I want to do.
It's too well.
Is it life hard?
Yes.
It is.
So instead, I'll cast Chain Lightning.
Oh, yeah!
Against Sir Will and Baron?
And Lexington.
Well, Sir Will is great.
A lot of metal armor.
Yeah.
All right, Chain Lightning.
What is my soon-to-be-failed save?
Reflex.
Okay.
Oh, I did pretty good before.
That's a Nat Troy on the first one.
Oh, man.
Because we know that's Joe's die.
That's Joe's die.
I didn't actually hand it to him.
So then the second one rolled a 13.
Fail.
That's a fail.
Nice.
Okay.
Also the Vortex.
Oh, the Vortex.
Okay.
That's fair.
That is going to be the little whirlwind, Johnski.
The little bird told
me that that was a 16.
That's a fail as well. Wow. Poop.
Crappy reflexes for vortex.
Let's just roll these dice.
16 D6.
Alright, that's 64 points of damage
for the ones that failed. Oh my.
32 for the dude that succeeded.
Okay, and the one that's right next to Baron and Sir Woll is the one that failed. Oh, my. 32 for the dude that succeeded. Okay. And the one that's right next to Baron and Sir Woll
is the one that failed.
And then the other one takes 32.
He's been really hurt.
Okay.
Are you moving at all?
You have to move to fly, right?
I have to move to not have to roll a fly check.
So I will arc a little bit.
I'll stay up close to the ceiling.
I'll run my hand along the fake sky
As I fly, just for flavor's sake
But then I'll kind of arc up
Back towards the battle
Okay
I'll put myself there
Okay, so you've arced back
A little bit towards the battle
Welcome to the battle, Metra
Top of the next round
It is Nestor's turn.
So are they saying, do they mean that you have to be friends with their friends before you can date them?
Who is saying this?
I was still thinking about the Spice Girls song.
Yeah, you got to get with my friends. But does it mean like you have to be, that's what I'm still thinking about the Spice Girls song. Yeah, you gotta get with my friends.
But does it mean like you have to be, that's what I'm saying.
You gotta get with my friends.
Do you have to date all my friends first to see if you're cool and then you can go out with me?
You have to test your wiener gymnastics on my friends.
Or does he just, they have to be, this is like, yeah, this guy's all right.
That was confusing as a child, I remember.
As a teen. I'm still hung up
on what zig-a-zig-a means.
Zig-a-zig-a. That to me is the
clearest part of the number. Really? Here's the
other thing. We call it a number?
A number?
What are you, 80 years old?
You know, the thing that's confusing me
about that number, I was in
the pictures. It's not an excellent number, it's an old one
Have you heard this new Spice Girls number?
Here's the thing that confuses me
If you want to be my lover, you've got to get with my friends
Got to get with my friends
Make it last forever
Friendship never ends
So what are they talking about?
What's it?
It's unclear
I think it's make your relationship last forever because her relationship with her
friends is never going to end.
So you better like get with their friends because they're going to be friends for life.
Or they say that the relationship you form with her friends also has to last forever
because now you're friends.
Exactly.
Well, there's no casual dating in Spice World because like everyone they go out with has
to last forever. Yeah. It's the same as their friendship with all the other Spice Girls. David Beckham and Hot Spice World. Because everyone they go out with has to last forever.
As the same as their friendship with all the other Spice Girls.
David Beckham and Tom Spice have been together forever now.
David Beckham got with her friends.
Not to mention, they're just saying, if you want to be my lover.
Not necessarily a long-term relationship.
I just want to have casual sex as your lover.
And I've got to be friends with all your Lucas friends?
You know what? They do sound annoying.
I don't want to be friends with a baby.
And that one's scary.
That's a scary one.
I'm scared by that one.
Are you for real?
I won't be hasty. I'll give you a try.
If you really bug me,
then I'll say goodbye.
Well, there it is.
Slam your body down and wind it all around.
Slam your body down and wind it all around. Slam your body down and wind it all around.
All right, so Nestor is going to move at a diagonal angle.
So again, this vortex is sort of blocking off this entire corridor where he's kind of retreated to.
So he can't hit anything on the other side
and he's truly pinned. He's still stuck in it.
So he's...
Okay, he's going to move through it again
the opposite way. Go closer
to the giants. Get sort of behind
Baron and angle.
Oh boy. I can't, no, I can't
do it. There's nothing else I can do
because otherwise I'm just, like, hiding.
Oh!
So he stands directly behind Baron if Baron was on the ground.
But Baron's up in the air!
Oh, no, no, no.
Okay, so he's actually going to go, like, southern towards the one that's been hit a couple times before.
The southernmost one.
He's going to move along the wall, get just out of the vortex, and again, can only
do a single attack. And he's a five
foot step away from the full attack, John.
Yeah!
We haven't even fought
Malbia yet.
Yeah.
This sucks. This really
sucks. I mean, there's nothing else I can do except
hide. You know?
I have a plan.
I just need to take her around to get there.
I like Skid's determination to represent what he sees as true to Nestor.
And I like...
Yeah, I mean...
Nestor would hate hiding.
Yeah.
At this...
Right now, yeah, he wouldn't want to.
So he...
Actually...
Could I stealth through the vortex since he can't see me in it?
So I can get a sneak attack?
I think that's fair.
It's a classic stealth versus perception of this giant you're trying to hit.
Okay.
Absolutely.
He's looking in the air at Baron or down at Sir Will.
I love it.
Okay.
That is a 49.
It doesn't see you.
Okay.
Oh my god, you see this dark shape come out of the mist slowly.
So you are, it's flat-footed against you.
Okay.
That is a 38 against regular AC.
That is a hit.
Okay.
With the stink attack, John!
That is 48 points of damage.
Yeah!
Because I also, because of the sniper goggles, if I'm within 30 feet, I get an extra two points for each die of my sneak attack damage.
Ah, okay.
All right, so that guy is in bad shape. And that's probably good, because he is a five-foot step away from a full attack on both Sir Will and Nestor,
because of that 15-foot reach.
Baron, just floating above everything, but will be able to full attack next round.
And it is that round for Baron. so baron what do you do well i need to do a hover check to stay
in place and do a full round attack action do i not you do yes okay so that's plus four with
the broom based on its caster level it's dc 15 to hover yep
what's your fly bone 17 is total so that all right so you are able to hover all right i'm
gonna rain down terror on the one right beneath me because he's the only one within range of touch
i could fire against regular ac no take him out take out the guy right beneath me this guy yeah
okay here it comes it's a hit Uh
That's only uh
27 points of damage terrible
27 points of damage okay
Second attack is also a hit
For
34 points of damage
Nice
Okay
Don't you take
The third attack is a critical threat
Shut up Joe shut up Joe
shut up Joe
shut up Joe
let's confirm this
critical
critical
critical
threat
17 on the confirm
that is a confirm
critical
critical
I like that
at this point
Troy doesn't even
have to play with Grant
let me know
what it's all about
let me know what it's all about
yeah just just read off damage.
All right, let's get into
that ranged crit game
from the niche.
All right, let's do...
Oh! Let's do Thiago
from Portugal. I believe
Thiago sent me a die a long time ago.
Thiago Silva? Yeah. Yeah. Thank you, Thiago from Portugal. I believe Thiago sent me a dialogue. Thiago Silva?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Thank you, Thiago.
I believe that was Thiago.
From Portugal.
Did you see that attack?
You proceed your attack with an inspiring speech and strike the target.
Speech. Speech.
Speech.
Speech.
Speech.
Speech.
Speech.
Speech.
Speech.
Speech.
Speech.
Speech.

Speech. Speech. Speech. Speech. Speech. Speech. Speech. same target in the next 1d3 rounds benefit from exploding dice.
Whoa, wow.
Wow.
That's a fun crit.
That's fun.
Even though this thing is going to be dead.
Did you see that attack?
Yeah, so it's four times damage.
But first, the speech.
You think you're a storm tyrant and you're going to come in here and blow away all the small folk? Well, I'm
a typhoon and I'm about to wash
your ass back out to sea,
Volstice.
Here comes the times for it.
You're going to wash my ass?
You like
washing asses?
Volstice threatened to wash my ass?
Water imagery from a door.
Also, it must be so deflating for that giant
who's actually fighting him that like Baron's
yelling at the giant and just yelling at Vols.
Yeah, it's like I'm not even talking to you.
I'm not even talking to you.
I'm not going to bother even addressing you.
I have a name.
122 points of damage.
Oh my god.
This explodes Oh phenomenal
Phenomenal
How many attacks do you have left?
Two attacks left under the effects of haste
Oh get it
So I will use two points of
Grit to resolve against
Touch AC against this giant but i will take a minus two
to my attack because it is outside my first range increment you gotta point a grit back just now
though true uh but i was full at the top of the day that is a 25 against touch ac 25 against touch
burning that sweet grit that is a hit okay. Okay, it's worth it. Worth
every sweet little penny.
34 points of damage. Okay.
Second attack.
Don't. Missed fire.
Oh, no!
Oh, no!
No! What a terrible turn.
Oh, no.
God.
I just wish you would contribute. That's why i don't like coming to these
sessions anymore just so much these turns like these make it awful for me this is just depressing
okay okay okay all right so possibly the killing blow is instead a misfire
and that is the end of your turn and that guy is but that guy still threatens with a
full attack on nester yeah fine we're fine oh yeah but sir will's gonna get to act before he's dead
sir will i'll be interested to see what sir will does i'll tell you what sir will won't do
roll a natural one oh you can happen guaranteed. Won't happen. Guaranteed. Won't happen. Okay.
All right.
Cool.
Very cool.
Here's what's going to happen now.
Oh, no.
I don't like what's happening.
You see how unfazed he was by the death of the first giant?
He actually was just happy to get it off of his board.
What you guys didn't get to see, because you're listening
to this instead of watching it, is that
through the entirety of Grant's turn,
Troy was just buried in his iPad.
Not even listening. Preparing
for the next way he's going to try to kill us.
Do you think we should take it to heart
that all Troy does
every week is try to kill us?
Yeah.
It wears away at you over time. It affects you psychologically. heart that all Troy does every week is try to kill us? Yeah. I think it
wears away at you over time. It affects
you psychologically. Yeah.
It's like, I love this character. Why do you keep trying to kill it?
Week after week.
Every one of my other friends
tries to help me
win together and
defeat evil. This one friend
I have constantly tries to kill my character and my story of good triumphing defeat evil. This one friend I have constantly tries to kill
my character and my story.
Yeah. Of good triumphing over evil.
He's still just reading.
Yeah, we can only feel for so long.
We can only kill so much time. I appreciate it.
Well, I think now's
a good time to ask the question.
Well, to explain. So here's a story
from A to Z z you want to get
with me you got to listen carefully we got em in the place who likes your face we got g like mc who
likes it on easy v doesn't come for free she's a real lady and asked for me well you'll see you'll
see who's saying who said that who's saying mel mel c that's mel's mel c that was sporty spice i Mel C? That's Mel C. That was Sporty Spice, I believe.
Okay.
Behind the one remaining cloud giant, a form begins to appear.
The form of a beautiful female cloud giant.
It's Mel B.
She looks like this.
Oh, come on.
Why can't she be cool?
Oh, come on, man. I'm a little
unnerved by the spell in one hand
and the sickle in the other. Yeah, that's a big
Soviet symbol. Oh, that's her bird.
Yes, and you do see in this image,
that's the bird that turned into
a whirlwind. Is into a whirlwind I see
Oh she might be a witch
And she
Now she would have evil eyed the shit out of all of us
As she appears she seems to be like
Moving in and out of
Existence
Displacing
One of those don't hit me spells
Almost winking in and out
Blink and you'll miss it.
And she looks at her hand,
