Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you. you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy. Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
Starting point is 00:00:45 This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the ice. Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
Starting point is 00:01:08 It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the iHart Radio.
Starting point is 00:01:30 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear.
Starting point is 00:02:00 Slice on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slicalife 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on. A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman. Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me?
Starting point is 00:02:32 Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The volume. So, guys, welcome to another episode. Today I'm joined by the one and only, Armand Syrucian. This episode is brought to you by Total Wireless, the official wireless provider of the UFC. They're in your corner with unlimited 5G data that will not slow you down. And what's not slowing down is this man, Armand Sirukian.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Armin, the other day, bro, you go to Doha and minus 800, you're the favorite. You not only win the fight, though, you dominated Dan Hooker. Did you know you would beat him up in that way? Were you confident that you could dominate him in the way that you did? I was super confident, but I never underestimate him because it's a fight. He is dangerous on the feet. He has good striking, dangerous knees. tips, you know,
Starting point is 00:03:40 and I was preparing for my title fight. Same. So I treat that training camp that I'm fighting for the title. If I'm going to look bad during the fight, even win, but barely win, I can't forget about title fight. That's why I was super motivated, super confident,
Starting point is 00:04:01 and I knew I'm going there, I'm going to dominate, and get the, finish. But you, but you beat him or you were fighting him and the last time you lost the fight was against Mattes Gamrod. I didn't lose that fight. I didn't lose that fight. Bad decision, right? Bad, bad decision. But on record. Matreuse Gamrad lost to Olivera, two hooker, two. Yes. Ben Yildarouj. I beat everybody and I beat Gamrodot as well. Yes. Yes. but when you watch him beat Gamrod, right?
Starting point is 00:04:40 And Gamrod wasn't able to take him down. When you were preparing, though, did you kind of have that in your mind? Like, well, Gamrod wants to wrestle, and he couldn't take him down. Maybe this guy's take down the fence has improved to the point that it might be a little more difficult and I might have to stand with him. And how quickly in the fight did you realize there's no way this guy can keep me on my feet? No, in this sport, there is a level. you know when you watch fight and you can understand like you can take him down you can hold him
Starting point is 00:05:10 gumrod has a uh he doesn't believe on his striking and he shoots from far far away and then he doesn't have good control on the bottom you know he can take down people but he cannot control on the bottom and uh that's his problem but i'm opposite and i didn't think like i couldn't hold him on the on the ground. And when I took him down, when I was on the top, on the second round, I knew I'm going to finish him. How did you know?
Starting point is 00:05:43 I just fell. He was kind of, after when I threw the knee in the first round, he was bubbling. And the second round, when I started punching, when I started to ground him, to do the ground and pound,
Starting point is 00:06:00 I started feeling like he's like, so weak already, you know, and he wanted to give up already. And when I get the arm triangle, I thought, like, no way he can get out of here. I don't this, you know what's crazy? Like, this does not work. If you have good arm. And then I changed. But I understand.
Starting point is 00:06:20 But if you have a good arm triangle, when someone just do this, that's not going to stop you from choking him. No, no, no, I still choke. If someone does this, I'll choke. If someone's going to grab his leg, that, I'm not going to chalk. But like this, it's easy money for me too. Yeah, people think like this answer in the phone is going to stop a good, it's not going to stop.
Starting point is 00:06:41 Answer the phone, it's nothing. If you got to give your back or you got to hold your leg, to hold your leg or you got to give your back. You got to find a way to like get some space in here. When you do this, it doesn't give space. You need a find a way to get the space off of this shit. The best thing, it's a choice. and go on your Bali
Starting point is 00:07:04 and give your back. Yeah, that's the best thing because you have no choice. Everybody, like, it's like whenever you're on someone's back and you got to go to let get in the mount, and then when they get in the mount, you got to go to your back. It's like you got to choose between bad positions.
Starting point is 00:07:20 And then hopefully that in one of those transitions, you get away from the guy. But you can feel when you're on top of someone, you can feel their energy. You can almost feel their posture. And when their posture starts to tell you, It's time to get them out of there. You go get him out of there.
Starting point is 00:07:35 You did that to Dan Hooker. Here's the problem, Armand. You're fighting this dude, right? When you really don't have much to gain, all you have to gain is what you already have, the number one contender. You were the number one contender back in January. So why did you take this fight?
Starting point is 00:07:54 I just prove it again. I know. To prove, I just prove it again. And I showed again everybody like, I'm a real deal. It's not just I'm rank number one. Just I'm not fake like a Petty Pimland making rank by their self and the UFC teller bring bring him up because we want to give him title fight or I don't know what they want to do with him. I am I was I was beating everybody and I I was deserve every spot. You know, I was top 15, top 12, top 10, top 9, top.
Starting point is 00:08:32 top five, top three, top one, and now I'm top one, and I beat it again and prove it again, I'm number one contender, and now they have no choice not to give me title five. So you were, when you fought in January, when we were supposed to fight in January, it didn't happen. It felt like there was going to be a punishment, and then you go and you make the weight as the backup fighter for the title fight. I was thinking to myself, okay, that should give him good favor. Now you might see Armand fight for the belt, but then you take the Dan Hooker fight. When you don't
Starting point is 00:09:06 have to take the Dan Hooker fight, because once again, you're the number one contender. You take it. You dominate him. You win the fight. Patty Pimlet, though when he went into that Octagon, Armand, playing the devil's advocate, there's a visual, right, of you, of him
Starting point is 00:09:21 standing in front of Iliot to pour you with the belt. It's hard for the fan to not remember seeing that niggily. go, well, the guy that was in there is the number one contender. How do you make them outside of you just dominating, realize you're the number of contender? And why didn't Ilya go in the ring with you on Saturday?
Starting point is 00:09:42 Because if Ilya goes in the ring and you two stand, now people forget about Patty Pimlet. Why didn't he go in there? Because he doesn't want to fight me. He's scared of me. And he knows why I should take dangerous fight with Armand. He is a real contender. it's easier to beat
Starting point is 00:10:00 Petty Pimlet, make easy fight and go move up and Armand can be a champion in 155 and I'm going up and the fight with the third title. It's the best case scenario for him and he's
Starting point is 00:10:17 thinking for easy fights, you know, making good money. Were you disappointed though? Like did you think that he might go into the ring with you and try to get that moment? Because the moment is really what it's all about, right? Me and Brock Lesnar one time. You remember me and Brock Lesnar we fight in the octagon? They were going to
Starting point is 00:10:36 let me fight Brock Lesnar because he came in the octagon. Were you hopeful that he could possibly like go in there and try to build the fight? I thought he has a, he had the balls and he was there and sitting watching my fight, but he left and he left and he didn't want to even be there and he didn't get in in the cage so but even the camera even if like when you're in there they pan the camera to him it's like he just turned his face and like and that doesn't want to even watch straight to me you know you think this guy you think he's afraid of you arm and no he just avoiding me not doing something anything from the media me versus him because he wants to create something with petty he doesn't want to even
Starting point is 00:11:25 even mentioned my name. And he just created like some crazy things. Like he's slapping me and like everybody's laughing. He said he slapped, Armand. He said he slap you, Armand. He said he slap you. If a man slap you, if a man slap you, you can't really say much about him if he slap you,
Starting point is 00:11:42 Armid. Oh my God. If he slapped me, he slapped his brother, his friends, his teammates, his coach. He slap everybody every day. He's like, uh, yeah, everybody.
Starting point is 00:11:57 Hey, I was like, yo, when I saw that... He's hugging his brother like this, like on the neck like me. And like one coach, like, said, oh my God, you slap in your brother as well. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. The coach said this to him? No, no, no. The one Armenian coach posted and said, oh, you're slapping your brother as well. But he didn't, like it didn't look like he slapped you.
Starting point is 00:12:22 It looked like he kind of touched you on the face. No, he just came, say, oh, brother. how are you? Wait, he said, Heidi. He said, he said, brother, how are you?
Starting point is 00:12:31 This is just media thing, this is that. And then he said, yeah, you see told me you're next. I said,
Starting point is 00:12:40 yes, finally. And now after when he, he, and after that, he beat Olivera and he just hiding. Wait,
Starting point is 00:12:48 so this was, this wasn't last week when he touched your face. This was before? It was before. It was before. a fight week with Olivera. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:13:00 When he was fighting with Olivera, I was back out. Yeah. You're like, yo, this is crazy. This guy did not slap me. But this is what we want, though. This is what the fans want. The fans want. Yeah, maybe that's good.
Starting point is 00:13:13 That's good. Yeah. He can say whatever he wants to say, you know? Yeah. I just, I don't know. I cannot be like that. is it disappointing though that you haven't I mean have you been told that you're next
Starting point is 00:13:29 have you been told that you're next I haven't been talking I didn't talk to them yet you walked right to the side where Hunter was saying and you did the belt sign you're like yo I'm next yeah I said bell bell he said we will think or I don't know what he said yeah probably he said yeah I would think about that
Starting point is 00:13:51 but what do you have I don't know, maybe beat a couple more contenders, or maybe they're going to bring someone from Japan, some debut guy, and I got to beat him, like Pantoja did, and I don't know. We just contributed to our first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas. brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down?
Starting point is 00:16:24 Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, Hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Starting point is 00:19:12 And I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris, every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay. Jenchian win. I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now, and I actually can win on
Starting point is 00:19:40 any surface, because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs Tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Would you fight again before he'd get in the title fight? No way. No, you shouldn't have to. If it's not Connor McGregor, I wouldn't fight.
Starting point is 00:20:08 You want to fight Conno McGregor, man? He said he came back. Did you see Carter McGregor? He said he went on his spirited journey. He said he went on his spirit to journey. He never fight me and the UFC never let me fight Conan McGregor. It's a nightmare for him. He went on his spirit.
Starting point is 00:20:27 But he said he goes on a spirit journey. It's the same thing. Like, I'll are going to fight with Patty Pimlet. Like, people is laughing, no. So you don't think that Patty Pimlet has anything for Iliot to pour you? No way. You don't think so? at all.
Starting point is 00:20:44 Why? Did you see what he did to Michael Chandler? Destroyed Michael Chandler. Okay, how many people destroyed Michael Chandler? Well, Mike, but Arm... He's 40 years old. He has six losses or
Starting point is 00:20:58 two wins on the UFC and he had like four loses win streak. He he is nobody He just, you see, try to make him like Artur Garry
Starting point is 00:21:16 or who wanted they do him like a superstar or Arno. But, yeah, he showed good fights, but he's not elite fighter. There is a levels, you know, when you see. And Perry cannot beat even Olivera, cannot beat even hooker. he cannot beat he cannot beat he cannot beat he cannot beat Gagey
Starting point is 00:21:46 he cannot beat Holloway he cannot beat me if he is going to beat even even Gagy I'm going to say yeah this guy is good so you don't think Patty's very good
Starting point is 00:21:59 no he suck what do you mean you think he's good you think he's good if you say you're good I'm going to turn off this this is the ball Armin, wait, wait, listen, he's a good grappler.
Starting point is 00:22:16 He's a very good grappler. He's very big for the weight class. Remember, can I finish? Can I finish? Did you see, when he fight King Green, he hit King Green, drop him and choke him out? Who is King Green? Bobby King Green. He changed his name now, only King Green, not Bobby Green.
Starting point is 00:22:36 Bobby Green and the MMA is grappling, and Bobby Green is, where is Bobby Green? where's grappling brother what are you talking about no listen to me you know who he is right you know bobby green is bobby green yeah i know he's good striker bro my brother he never trained m m m i swear if they're gonna be on the on the street fight my brother will kill him so easy oh you guys have a problem right you and bobby green in um no we have not we have no problems you slap him you slap him yeah i'm just saying i'm just saying i'm just no, I didn't slap him. I just pushed him. It's a different. If you slap somebody,
Starting point is 00:23:18 you want to... It's a different. I just push him to the neck. I'm not bullshit like I'm Elia Tepuria. Even if I push, I say I push. Okay. To be honest, Bobby Green is a not high-level fighter. Send him to Dagestan two, three years. So, Patty Pimbley said he has no chance versus Ili. It just feels like that moment was missed last weekend for you guys to kind of come face to face and make it happen.
Starting point is 00:23:52 Because at the end of the day, you might not think much of Patty, but Ilya's good. He's very, very good. Hits hard. He comes from a grappling wrestling background is what he said, right? That's like his background more than even striking. What would your approach be to him? I mean, I know you use the wrestling as beautifully as anybody in the game. but when you fight a guy who has that danger, right, in the hands like Teporia,
Starting point is 00:24:20 how do you approach that? How would you beat Ilya to Pore you? Nobody has. I'll beat him everywhere. Just tell me how you want to see that fighter and I'll make it happen. I'll knock him out with my obskick. Oh, yeah, I like that. I like when you do the axe kick arm.
Starting point is 00:24:39 You got very athletic. I'll make him tired. and I'll throw my upskink and knock him out. That's my plan. Yeah. So big win last weekend, now you're relaxing. Bro, you're eating camel back? What you're doing eating camel back?
Starting point is 00:24:56 Man, that shit looks disgusting. It's not good. Camel was so delicious. No, Camel was so delicious. I don't know. It was maybe after the fight. I was on the diet a long time. That's why maybe.
Starting point is 00:25:12 But Camel was young Camel was super delicious. And I enjoyed it. What it tastes like? What it tastes like? It tastes like between beef and lamb. Beef and lamb, huh? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:28 That shit looked disgusting. Too much fat. It was like a lot of fat on the back. Yeah, you don't need fat. I don't need fat. I don't need fat, eh, Arv. I got to be honest, man. You take your shirt off right next to me.
Starting point is 00:25:41 people confused. They don't know who's Armand Sarukin and who's Daniel Corvier. We look just the same. You and me, but we're just the same. And then the Inanau burger
Starting point is 00:25:53 and all the other stuff. You live in life, man. Hey, I'm happy for you. I'm very happy for you. Thank you. Thank you so much. If you want this title fight, right? Potentially, it could happen
Starting point is 00:26:04 at the very beginning of next year. Do you go right back in the training camp, no problem? Yeah, I'll just, fly out there tomorrow and start my training camp. Back home, you mean? No, no.
Starting point is 00:26:19 If it's going to be in U.S., I'll fly to U.S. Yeah. You stay in Los Angeles. Los Angeles or Miami, yeah. Miami's nice. Hey, do you like... Right now, I'm in Qatar, or in Qatar. I'm in Dubai, relaxing one week, and then
Starting point is 00:26:37 back to work, so. Yeah. Yeah. That's awesome. Hey, what about your dad? Like, he's now like a major player in MMA. Like, everybody talking about Arvarez. Do you see how he like a slam the Parumpa? He almost killed him. I was laughing so long.
Starting point is 00:26:55 And like, it was like a double-double-e slam. Yeah, dad's like a major player in M&A. Everybody loves this guy. Oh, all good, man. Hey, I'm happy for you, bro. I hope you get this title fight. I'm telling you, man. And you were the number one contender in January.
Starting point is 00:27:15 You're the number one contender today. And if you aren't fighting for the title, I don't understand. I really don't understand how anyone could be in there above you, especially with how competitive and how good of a fight it would be between you and Iliot to pour you. Hey, what happened with Ian Gary and Hamzat? Ian Gary, he grabbed Hamzat? Well, Hamzaa has a 2-N-0. that day. What happened?
Starting point is 00:27:43 We just came from the baths and like we were getting to the arena and the one bodyguard like pushing to Hamzad and said hey go back and go come back again he's like a
Starting point is 00:27:58 there is like a security thing you know. Yeah. He wouldn't let Hamzad in the building. He's like it doesn't let Hamza to get in and like Hamza like bam push him. And then like, and then when we go in locker room, like, they call police, you know, they take him out.
Starting point is 00:28:20 And then he came back. And take him out. He came back. And then even Gary, same shit, you know. What do you get? And then Aaron Gary, he got two and all that day. He pushed Ian Gary too. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:37 This guy's crazy. That is so crazy. Hey, were you surprised that Islam beat Jack Delamadena that bad? Was that, were you surprised? He killed him, bro. Yeah, I thought Islam gonna win him,
Starting point is 00:28:54 but not like that. It was like, so easy. I don't know. Islam now, right now, on his prime. That's crazy. How he feels distance, how he's tries,
Starting point is 00:29:06 how he's calm. And you see, he does like, he moves so good. He doesn't spend, like, like energy, you know? He just shoot on the right time, punch on the right time, and take him down so easy. I don't know, like, what Jack Madalena was doing all training camp. He doesn't defend, he didn't defend even one takedown.
Starting point is 00:29:28 It's, like, crazy. Yeah, it was only, some of these guys, like, I'm very confused, right?
