Yo, guys, I'm joined by Walterweight contender Sean Brady. Sean Brady, man, thanks for checking it with me. I appreciate it. Another big-time fight. you know, watching you compete, it seems as though we should have got here sooner, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:42 Yeah. Big-view, big spots, big-time, you know, media obligations. Yeah. Why do you think it took so long for people to kind of take notice of what you were doing down in Philadelphia and really appreciate what you're doing in terms of your fighting style? I think the Leon fight really put me on the map. But I'm not like one of those super outspoken guys. Like, I'm not doing any crazy shit on social media, anything like that.
Starting point is 00:05:06 But I think my fighting style is finally starting to speak for me, the Gilbert fight, the Leon fight. And now, taking this fight, everyone sees it as like, oh, he's so highly ranked and this guy's behind us. But we're all fighters. A guy who's not even in the UFC could fuck somebody up who's in the UFC. Like rankings and shit like that don't matter. So winning fights is all that matters to me. I'm going to go out there Saturday, win fights, win the fans over, and just keep rolling. Do you think, did you ever think at times like, man, maybe I should.
Starting point is 00:05:32 should be a little bit more outspoken. I should do a little bit more to try to draw people in because it's hard whenever you know what you bring. And it's like, man, I'm working in silence and I appreciate it, but I'd like to get some of that shit, like the new battle sponsorship. Yeah. You got dudes with monster sponsorships that don't even win.
Starting point is 00:05:52 I know, I know, I know. And I tried that before. You did? I tried it with Ballaw, and I tried talking shit on Twitter, and that shit bit me my ass. And to be honest, when I felt Ballaw, I was confident. That was the one fight.
Starting point is 00:06:04 I'm like, I'm going to beat this guy a million out of a million times. Why? And I lost that foot because I was just so confident in it. Like I didn't think Belaw was that good. But now I'm like, everyone's good. I treat everything so much differently now. And I learned so much from that fight. I tried to be something I wasn't.
Starting point is 00:06:21 And now I'm just true to myself. I do what I do. I train. I post a little bit on social media. I got my own little line of clothes that I'm doing. I got my own shit going. but I'm not going outside my wheelhouse. I color in between my lines and I just keep doing what I'm doing.
Starting point is 00:06:36 How big of a, how big of a, how big was it of a help for you to be followed as it was before the Leon fight? Because I don't watch that. Yeah. What is that thing called again whenever they're following you before now? Journey. Journey, yeah. I don't watch that, but I watched yours. I did it twice.
Starting point is 00:06:52 See, but I watched the last one. Yeah, yeah. And everything you were saying going into that fight against the former champion, it came true. Yeah. Do you think that even maybe that allowed for you to be propelled into that spot, right? Because now you're in the third fight from the top on a pay-per-view. On a card that has two title fights, big-time fight card, Madison Square Garden. How much do you think that helped, right?
Starting point is 00:07:16 Getting those cameras in front of you and then not only delivering, but being able to go after the fight and go, I told you all, why didn't you look at the camera and just go, didn't I tell you? I mean, I kind of did. There's a nice clip on there. It was like two weeks before the fight there, like, I think. said, I'm going to submit Leon Edwards in the O2 Arena. And then they play it back a half. So it's cool.
Starting point is 00:07:34 But it's just me believing in myself. And now that I'm doing that and I'm winning these fights, I think people are starting to get behind me. And I'm taking the Leon fight on short notice, doing what I did. I feel like that definitely catapulted me up to the spot we're at now. Yeah, beating the former champion. But then beating Gilbert Burns, too, was also big
Starting point is 00:07:51 because of how much people appreciate him. Were you surprised, though, at the Leon Edwards fight? I was surprised. I knew you were good, Sean. But I don't know if, like, that was crazy. You just dominated it. I mean, but if you follow me and my coaches or if you're in the room, like, that's what I do.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Like, I've never even showed what I'm capable of 100% in the cage, and that's the crazy thing. So, but I'm more confident in myself than I ever had been, so more and more of me just keeps coming out in the fights. So I wasn't surprised. Like, I knew, like, I'm about to dog this motherfucker. Okay, so how far have we come, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:28 Think about this. You forgot my name. Bro, think about this. We're sitting here right now. And one time you fought a wonderful fight, after I finished interviewing you, I knew your name. Trust me, I knew your name.
Starting point is 00:08:40 I just had like a brain fart there. No, because we're fighters, right? Sometimes all the punches in the head. But how far have we come, right? I didn't forget your name. I knew who you were. It's all right. But in that moment, I kind of forgot your name.
Starting point is 00:08:52 I was like, all right. I'll never forget my name again. Well, you just said, You said my name. You said, like, I'm going to forget my name. You said, you're going to forget your name, not my name. You just messed up again. I would never forget my name.
Starting point is 00:09:04 No, you just had a brain fart. It's all right. Again? We're just going to move past it. I'm 46 years old, man. We're going to move past it. But, no, I mean, I feel like my career is definitely going the way I wanted to go. It's kind of slow playing out, but I haven't, like, I had some injuries.
Starting point is 00:09:19 I had some bullshit going. But now I feel like I'm in a great stride. I'm not, I'm the healthiest I've ever been. I'm one a nice little role. I wanted to fight earlier in the year than this, but, but, um, Getting to be on this card, end of the year, end of the year right. I feel great. When you look around the landscape of mixed martial arts and you see we have no male American champions.
Starting point is 00:09:39 We have no male Americans ranked in the top 10, final, profound. And then when they start talking about the people that could potentially be that, right? Yeah. You know who's number one? It's Sean Brady. Everybody's like, well, Sean Brady might be that guy. I'm already highly ranked. But, like, yes, we got me.
Starting point is 00:09:56 We got Joe Piper. We got guys. Yeah. But even that, though, like even that, though, right? You're highly ranked. You just beat a former champion. So it lends itself to the idea that you're on the short list of Americans. Do you enjoy that?
Starting point is 00:10:08 Or does that bring a little bit of pressure? Like, man, because I did. I felt the pressure of being an American champion when I was fighting. No, I enjoy it, but I think Americans need to get behind. We need to get behind our own more. Like, you see all these, the Russians, all these different countries. They could be one fighter that's not even that good. They're having fucking parties.
Starting point is 00:10:27 back home doing all this crazy shit for the guys and us over here we're just like, man, because we have all these other sports and I don't think we appreciate what we have. So I'm trying to get behind all American fighters. I think we need a support our own more and I'm going to be reppping the American flag at the Wayans when I walk out and yeah, I'm proud of being an American
Starting point is 00:10:43 and I will be an American champion. I just don't know when I'm going to get it, but it's coming. Well, it starts like with beating former champs. But coming off beating a former champion, then fighting a highly regarded prospect, very different.
Starting point is 00:10:58 Yeah. When you get the call that this is the next fight, how do you take that? Because I would imagine you were expecting something different. Dude, we had conversations that maybe you shouldn't even be fighting for the title right now before McAchaev came up to challenge for the World to Weight Championship. What went into the decision to fight Morales? Yeah, first, like, and I didn't even think I was going to get a title shot. I was thinking maybe it was going to be Usman and somebody else.
Starting point is 00:11:21 And then they said Morales, I'm like, at the end of the day, I'm a fighter and I'm going to fight. winning solves everything like you know you go out there you win shit more shit's going to come so I'm gonna go out there beat Morales and then if I get the title shot next great I would love to fight JDM if he wins I would love to fight Islam if he wins but if I don't get it next I'm really not like I'm not gonna be upset but why why are you so patient whenever your resume says that you should be in consideration because if I try to rush it and I try to do something that's not if I try to take something that's not for me something bad is going to happen so whatever my path is that's
Starting point is 00:11:55 my path and I'm not going to rush it. You know, I want to fight for a long time, and I want to just keep winning fights. And I want to compete, and that's the biggest thing. I just want to go out there and compete. Have you tried to fight, like, the Camaro Oussman's and those guys? Yeah. Have you asked?
Starting point is 00:12:09 Yeah. And what happened? Nothing. Ousman's out until I asked for, I asked for Ustman, I asked for Bala, I asked for Ian Gary. We were matched up twice. But you and Ian Gary, but then Bala got the Ian Gary fight. We were supposed to fight in August in Chicago.
Starting point is 00:12:24 I said yes. we were supposed to be the main event in Vancouver, I said yes. And I'm not saying he's ducking me. So what happened then if you're not saying? I don't know. I don't know. I don't know what happened. So what happened when you're matched up and then the fight doesn't happen? Is it getting injured? I don't know. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:12:39 What do you mean you don't know it again? We're going to have to ask Lloyd. Get over here, Lloyd. Lloyd, get over here. Lloyd, what happened? Didn't it happen? Why didn't it happen, Lloyd? You guys were matched up.
Starting point is 00:12:53 Pinned the paper. Not pen the paper. It was close to pen the paper. And then what happened? It just never came to the fruit. Oh, look at Joe. It just never happened. It just never happened.
Starting point is 00:13:05 People try to say, I say Ian scared. I don't think Ian's scared of anybody. He fought shot off kind of short notice, far protested on short notice. I don't think he's scared of anybody. I don't know. What he was trying to do, get, I don't know. But it just didn't happen.
Starting point is 00:13:18 And then now here we are. And now I'm fighting Morales, and he's fighting Belaw. So, yeah. I don't know. But I asked for Usman. I asked for Gary. I asked for Ballal.
Starting point is 00:13:29 Who else is ranked? I asked for Shavkat here. I asked for all of them. And then I get Morales. And then I'm like, all right, fuck it. I'm going to go beat this kid. And then I'll get one to you guys later. So, yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:41 Taking the Morales fight, he's a very good young prospect. Yeah, for sure. But in terms of style matchups, it would seem to be one that suits you. Yeah. Do you see that and go, there's dangers in this fight, but not necessarily as much because I think I can control him with my wrestling and grappling and pace. There's dangers and everything.
Starting point is 00:13:59 Like I've watched a lot of your career, especially getting ready for this fight. You're shorter for the division, but you go out there and you implement your game, put the pressure on guys, and no matter who you were fighting, you got the job done. And that's exactly how I think of it.
Starting point is 00:14:12 Like, no matter who it is, I know I stack up better, and I'm going to do exactly what I do to the guys in the gym. I'm just going to go out there and do it to him, and I'm going to win, you know? And I think I can do that to end. anybody in the world. I think, and even if you stuff my takedowns, I know how to fight on the feet. I know how to win fights, and I'll make it dirty, and I'll win. I think I'm the best at knowing
Starting point is 00:14:33 how to win, win rounds, and yeah, I think I stack up well against anybody in the world. So what does Saturday night look like for you? Domination, and then I get my hand raised, and then hopefully the UFC lets me sit right there and watch the title fight and not kick me out, and I get to see what happens in the title. Did you see when Belal... Did you see him Balaw was trying to get in the ring after that fight? Yeah. That was crazy.
Starting point is 00:15:00 Was that the craziest shit you've ever seen? Yeah. And Rogan goes, he's the champion. Don't. I'm just asking. John, did you see that? Yes, it was crazy. What were you thinking?
Starting point is 00:15:11 Like, oh, my God. It was crazy. I think Ballag's a lot of hate for no reason. He's good, though, man. He is good. And I think he gets a lot of hate for no reason. But that's a fight that I want to get back just as a competitor. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:22 I know I want to fight him again. If you were the champ and then you were trying to get in the ring and the security was stopping. You probably forget my fucking name. No, that was one time. Bro, but that was. You probably like, yo, who's this crazy-ass motherfucker trying to get in here? Guys I say this? We were in the apex.
Starting point is 00:15:36 It was kind of boring. It was. The fight wasn't boring. No, I get it. I was tired. And I had a brain fault. It's hard. But, you know, sometimes I forget my own name.
Starting point is 00:15:46 See, I just did it again. I get it. I'd be caught in weight. I began punching the head. I know how it was, bro. I was shorter for the weight class. I got it a lot. I got hit a lot.
Starting point is 00:15:53 I don't know. I get hit. You expect. Joey, Joey, be punching me in my show all the time. Yeah. All right, man. We're good. We're good.
Starting point is 00:15:59 Guys, Sean Brady is on the main card at UFC 322 this weekend. Tap into everything this man is doing. He can fight, and this dude's a grinder. You may be looking at potentially the number one contender in the Walt Away Division. He fights this weekend. Don't miss it. Sean, thanks for checking in with me, man. I appreciate this.
Starting point is 00:16:16 Guys, until next time, like, subscribe. Tell your friends to tell their friends that DEC has got a YouTube channel. I'm hanging out with guys. like Sean. Brady. I'm just fucking around. I get a bad. Guys, peace.
