Hey everyone.
By now, you've likely noticed, though maybe not yet, the change we've just implemented
to all of the episodes.
You'll now see them listed in their sequential episode number, followed by either a dynasty
name or a shorthand for the era, followed by a number within that quote-unquote chapter,
and then finally, the episode's name. Sound complicated? Well, I hope not, but let me explain anyways.
I've been kicking around in my head for a while now the idea that with now more than 50 episodes,
the history of China had under the previous system been rather difficult to penetrate
for someone just starting out, and was also kind of difficult to even navigate if you, say, wanted to go back to a
specific era. And believe me, I'm speaking from experience, having been on multiple occasions
reduced to word search trial and error just to find a specific episode. So after giving it a lot
of thought, I opted to take yet another page out of Mike Duncan's playbook, and more officially, chapterize THOC's episodes, both retroactively and going forward. I hope this
will, as we move ever deeper into the depths of China's past, be more of a help than a point of
confusion. But I would of course love to hear from you all about your thoughts on the change.
Speaking of confusion, there will be, at least for the time being,
a bit of a mix-up for past episodes.
Going forward, I plan to implement this new system directly,
but the audio intros of all prior 56 episodes will be off in their numbering.
By exactly two, in fact.
This is thanks to my two early, completely unnecessary attempts to make two-parter
episodes. I hope to over time re-record those intros and fix the inconsistency eventually.
But that will take a while, and I don't want to take time out of pushing the series forward to
do that little tune-up instead. Production of Get Ready for the Jump, episode 57, is on track,
so I hope you'll stay tuned over the next
few days as we move from the end of the 16 kingdoms chapter and into the southern and
northern dynasties. Thanks very much, and see you soon. And as always, thank you for listening.
