Starting point is 00:00:11 since 2015. It's the Hockey PEDEOCast with your host, Dmitri Filipovich. Welcome to the Hockey PEDOcast. My name's Demetri. And joining me is my good buddy, Chris Meenie. Chris, what's going on? What's going on? What's going on, Demetri? Super fun trade deadline. And we're into the stretch run now. This is my favorite time of the year. We're so close to playoff hockey and it just feels like playoff hockey's happening now every night. Well, I'm always happy to have you on, but I feel like especially on a Friday. It's fitting because I know that you're going to bring the energy. We always go back and forth in a pretty up-tempo manner when we get together. And so it's a good segue into the weekend, I guess, for everyone with that energy. Now, what we're going to do is what we always do when we get together,
Starting point is 00:00:53 and that's going back and forth, covering as many names as we can. Guys that have caught our eye recently have been playing well, are in a good spot to keep elevating their production, hopefully help you with your pools. Now the trade headlines in the rear of your mirror, as Chris mentioned, and we're in the thick of the stretch run. Let's get into it because I know that we're going to cover a ton of ground here today. I'll give you first pick. Who do you want to talk about right out the bat? I'll start with Dylan Cousins, you know, the move away from Buffalo to Ottawa.
Starting point is 00:01:21 You know, he's never played playoff hockey before. The Sends haven't been in the playoffs in quite some time. And, you know, they're winning hockey games since the addition. And four games, he's got two goals and four points. He had a game winner on the power play, 11 shots. He had a career high nine hits in his debut. Tell me this guy wasn't Jack to get out of it. Buffalo 20 hits so far. So if you're playing in a fantasy hockey league that, you know,
Starting point is 00:01:41 touches all those categories, he's going to do it for you. And 22 shot attempts rank third on the team, second among fours behind Brady Kuchuk. We know he's elite in that category. Second on the team in scoring chances and high danger chances again behind Brady Kachuk, just one scoring chance and high danger chance behind him. So he's right there in terms of the usage rate and putting pucks towards the goal. If you look at the back of the hockey card, that that 2022 season may be the outlier campaign, 31 goals and 68. He had 200 plus shots in that season as well, some 50 points in three of the first four seasons in the league and probably won't get to 50 this year. But we did see that potential, Dmitri, in 2022. He's got a good defensive game as well.
Starting point is 00:02:19 I love Josh Norris as a player, but I really like that move by Ottawa. I think they get a little bit better defensively, a little bit more reliable. He's shown that he can stay healthy and he plays with an edge. And, you know, there's a lot of Ottawa players that kind of play with an edge. So I think he fits in perfectly. Yeah, that 30 goal season was his 22. year old campaign and he earned that 7.1 times 7 extension off of that year. And ever since then, his game completely cratered in Buffalo.
Starting point is 00:02:46 He went for 18 goals and 47 points in 79 games last year. 82 game pace this year in Buffalo of just 15 goals and 42 points. The reason why I think this was such an interesting one, he was on my list as well is because it was a classic sort of change of scenery type deal, right, in terms of obviously his play had slipped and he wasn't living up to the contract he had, but he still yet. young enough and it's shown us enough on tape previously in that in that one amazing season that you figure all right you take him out of buffalo where everyone is struggling and it's been a mess for years now and we'll see what that looks like obviously if it continues then I think
Starting point is 00:03:21 we need to reevaluate but he's off to a great start as you mentioned he's got the four points in the four games a bunch of shot attempts as you cited as well at five on five he's playing with drake batherson they're up five one 57 percent of the shots 65 percent of the high danger chances And the note that I wanted to mix in on him is he only had two power play goals this year in Buffalo. And that was a power play unit that I think is 27th in the league and has really struggled. And I think part of the logic for them for the sabers in making that trade was getting Norris's one-time shot opposite Tage Thompson and giving them more of a threat there. But we've seen Dylan Cousins step into the top unit in Ottawa. And that is a power play unit that hasn't struggled this year.
Starting point is 00:04:01 They're 12th right now. They dipped a little bit, but they were in the top 10 for the majority of the season. And we've already seen him score one there. And it was as big of a gimmy as you're going to get, right? It was like nice passing play. He just had an empty net to shoot at. And so it's a good spot to be in for a guy like him. And I imagine many more of those are coming his way.
Starting point is 00:04:18 And I think the most important part is just the, and this is a much more difficult thing to quantify, but like going from Buffalo's hopeless reality right now of missing the playoffs for a 14th straight year to all of a sudden jumping into the middle of a playoff race. The Sends have gone 60 and 1. here in March, their playoff probability in Dom's models up to 94%. They're only four points back of Tampa to get up to third in the Atlantic and get out of the wildcard entirely. And so I think like that importance of not only the skill around you and
Starting point is 00:04:49 the environment and some of the other stuff we mentioned, but also just I think the vibes and just imagine the feeling of like going from that situation to one where all of a sudden you're playing these meaningful games that has to be an incredibly exciting one and we're seeing a benefit from it. So yeah, it's only four games. You don't want to necessarily throw the past year and three quarters that we saw from him and act like this is his new normal. But he's doing a lot of the stuff that he had done previously and that we wanted to see from him more frequently moving forward. So it's a really good sign. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:05:18 And you know, you talk about the power play too. And it's a really good power play. Jake Sanderson is somebody we've discussed a couple times this year and the breakout campaign that he's having. You have the net front presence of Brady Kichuk and Tim Stutzlow. I think he had a 14-game point streak that was just snapped recently. So it's a really good power play. Drake Batherson has had a lot of success over the past couple years ripping the puck on that power play as well. So yeah, and I think, you're right, it's hard to quantify. But I just feel like that first game that I watched him, he just brought so much energy to the squad. I mentioned him throwing the body around. And again, just having an opportunity to play play playoff hockey, meaningful hockey at this time. It's like a complete 180, right? There's so much going on in Buffalo.
Starting point is 00:05:58 I'm sure it was hard for him to be motivated every night to play on that Sabre squad. So look out for the sentence to playing really good at the moment. All right. Here's the first one on my list. And it might be predictable one, but I feel like I generally wait until the end of the shows to bring him up. And then it gets buried a little bit. And so I want to do it right off the bat.
Starting point is 00:06:17 Mackie's Amoskevich. My boy, the prince that I promised. Hopefully you listened to us last time. We recorded a month ago, maybe six weeks ago. And it's happening for him. Last 10 games, five goals, three assists, points in seven of the past 10. Here's a fun stat for you.
Starting point is 00:06:33 Last five Panthers games, they've had 22 minutes of power play time. He's played 1733 of those 22 minutes on the top unit. He's operating most importantly kind of on that left side of the ice by the left circle, which allows him to be part of that download triangle between him and Barkov and Reinhardt. Now, we saw a little mixing and matching. We actually saw him passing it down to Reinhard. got it out in at front to Bennett in his usual spot for one of the power play goals on Thursday night. But he's really involved there.
Starting point is 00:07:05 He certainly got the skill set to back it up. Every time I watch the Panthers, he pops off the page as one of the most dynamic and dangerous players out there, regardless of who else is sharing the ice with him. And so for me, it was just a matter of patience in terms of the puck starting to go in, but also just the opportunity. We're seeing him playing the top six with Evan Rodriguez and Sam Bennett, while guys that could chuck and Marchander are still out for the Panthers. And now he's playing on that top unit power play.
Starting point is 00:07:29 It's a great spot for a guy this skilled. He's got so much juice. And I'm really happy that it's finally happening for him. Yeah, it was such a great call by you a couple weeks ago. And his ownership has only jumped up to 11% and it's 7% jump over the last day. So it feels like people are maybe just streaming him, hopefully listening to us. We've touched on him over at NHL fantasy as well in the prop market, extreme value, like plus 240 for three shots. And this is a guy that has back-to-back games with four shots.
Starting point is 00:07:58 He had seven against the blue jackets. He scored in that game as well, a power play marker, as you alluded to. And he's hitting, right? Two, three, six, five, three, two. He throws his body around. He fits in nicely with the Panthers. The team that we've just known over the past few years
Starting point is 00:08:13 are not afraid to mix it up. And, you know, Seth Jones as well as, you know, he's owned. But I see a bit of an uptick, of course, with the Aaron Eckblatt suspension, season high, 28 minutes on Tuesday against the Bruins, 2757 Thursday against the leaves. He had his first point. As a member of the Panthers, that was on the power play,
Starting point is 00:08:33 a power play assist. He's ripping the puck a little bit more, 18 shot attempts and 12 shots. He leads the Panthers, a nice time in the five games, 119 minutes. He's played in Chicago, had a really good power play this season.
Starting point is 00:08:42 That's pretty decent. He had 15 power play points with the Black Hawk. So it's going to be a little bit before we see Marshaan, I think, and I don't think we'll seek a chuck until the playoffs. So Simiskevich, he's got a real opportunity here down the stretch. I think he's more than a streaming option. for you because this panther seems loaded and they got some home games coming up and we know how good
Starting point is 00:09:00 they are at home. Yeah, for now he's got a real opportunity to keep seeing these high leverage scoring minutes, especially on the power play, partly because quietly Carter for Hagee has been honestly awful this season offensively. Part of it is bad luck in terms of the puck's not just going in, but you watch him recently and the shot selection's poor. He's just shooting at the shin pads, missing the net badly. It looks completely off. And I don't want to be too critical because we've seen it from him. I imagine come the postseason, he's going to rip off 12 goals with three overtime winners
Starting point is 00:09:31 and all of a sudden look amazing again and no one's going to be worried about him. But the time being, he's been so inefficient offensively that it's allowed Mackey to jump up on the top unit power play. And even when they get healthy, I think he's just shown us enough juice right now offensively that they can mix and match. They could potentially
Starting point is 00:09:46 put him up with Barkov and Reinhardt. If they want a little bit of a speed infusion, they can play him with Lundell and Lusterinen on a checking line. We've seen him thrive there previously. Over the past two months now, this is a growing sample. He's seventh on the team amongst forwards and usage. So he's getting legitimate ice time after being like a fourth liner for the first
Starting point is 00:10:04 whatever 40-ish games. And in that time, shot share with him on the ice, 58%. Expect the goals, 57. And he's only got a 6% on ice shooting percentage. And so that's some of the poor luck that we were referencing earlier about the bounce is not coming for him, despite the process being so great. Now he's finally starting to turn some of those shots into goals and looks the part. I mean, he had this awesome sequence on Thursday night in a really fun game in Toronto
Starting point is 00:10:27 where like post-wistle, he kind of suckered OEL into taking a dump penalty and then immediately made them pay on the ensuing power play, attacks Matthews, brings it to the net and Bennett bangs at home. And so it just seems like when he's on the ice, he's so dangerous and good things happen. And I'm sure Paul Maurice is seeing that as well. And that's reflected in his usage. So the wheels are up for him. All right, who's next on your list?
Starting point is 00:10:48 Yeah, and 16 minutes. This one adds 16 minutes per game in the month of March, right? in 11, 12 in the first couple months of the season. Barrett Hayden is a guy that's caught my eye lately. I know you have tweeted a lot about Dylan Gunther. We've talked so much about Dylan Gunther every time we chat. I mean, how can you not? This guy's been, he's been unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:11:05 But Barrett Hayton has been pretty good as well. I mean, he's got four points over a four-game points. Three of them on the power play has nine points in his past. Nine, he's averaging 3.3 shots per game over that span. So this is a duo that's creating a lot, a lot of shot attempts, because if you just look overall at Gunther, he leads the NHL in shots since he returned February 4th, 61.
Starting point is 00:11:26 He's up near the top in shot attempts and up at the top and a lot of categories and goals and game winning goals and power play goals. But Hayton is caught my eye as well. So you look at some of our edge stats over at NHL fantasy. He's 10th in high-danger goals. He's in the 93rd percentile in high-danger shots. He gets to those areas, net front presence on the power play as well.
Starting point is 00:11:45 And look at this Utah team. They're starting to catch my eye. you know, Keller all of a sudden is in the top 10 in scoring. He's top, I think he's sixth since January 1 in scoring. Vermilke's playing pretty good. They're just a couple points of a playoff spot. I really like where they're at. When I look at Vancouver, big win against the flames and Quinn Hughes is back.
Starting point is 00:12:03 I expect them to make the playoffs. But Utah might be that other team that gets in, you know, Vancouver, Calgary, St. Louis, if these three teams slide and Utah continues to roll. They may just get in. And I like their young core. I know that some of their players of Logan Cooley in particular was really good before the injury and he's been quiet, but he's still getting an opportunity with Keller and Schmaltz up on that top line. But it was Gunther and Cooley cooking before that injury, but now right, it's Hayton.
Starting point is 00:12:35 So he is a guy that's starting to trend up a little bit. I think he's a really good ad. I think, yeah, he had an awesome game in their most recent one. It was a TNT game against Ducks. he helped set up a curfwood goal by sprinting to the blue line, keeping the puck in with a really high level play. And then he had a play later on where Gunther works it around to him behind the net. He brings it out front really strong, gets a great scoring chance.
Starting point is 00:13:00 I love what I've seen from them in the net front, especially in the power play. I feel like for the first half of the season, it didn't make sense that this Utah power play. I know they had some injuries along the way and never really had that full five-man unit established at one time. but they were always kind of hovering around the 15 to 20 range in terms of their league rank on power play goals per 60. And it didn't make sense given the firepower and the skill level on that team. And since Gunther came back, essentially, it's a 13 game sample now. They've been around top 10 in the league.
Starting point is 00:13:30 And so they're creeping up into some elite territory. And Hayden's work around the net and sort of playing that role has really stuck out to me. So I love that shout. I think he deserves a lot more recognition based on. how he's elevated his game here recently and playing with Gunther at 515 is always a good thing because you know the shots are going to come and so there's going to be a lot of opportunities around the net to follow up whenever he misses. All right.
Starting point is 00:13:56 Speaking of the Ducks while we're on that, because I just mentioned that game against Utah, next guy on my list is Jackson Lekome. Now, we've got a listener in the Discord, Luke, who is a big Ducks fan, who's Sam Colangelo's super fan.
Starting point is 00:14:10 I'm sure he's going to love this, but Jackson Lacombs been awesome in that game against Utah, he played a season high 2812 in that game. Now, since the new year, he's playing 2438 per game, which is 13th most in the league. In that time, he's got 21 points in 28 games, which is 10th most at the defense position. And despite all that volume on a team that's still struggling,
Starting point is 00:14:32 despite getting more points recently, you look at us 5-on-5 metrics, and it's passing all the checkpoints that you want to see. He's got a 53% expected goals sharing that time. they're in the net positive in goals when he's on the ice. For the year, he's producing at a 16 goal, 50 point pace as a defenseman on a team that's 30th in the league in scoring. He's taken such a huge year to leap after really struggling in a big role last season as a rookie. And I just wanted to shout out him out because not only has he been incredibly productive and he's been a horse in terms of usage, but just watching him play.
Starting point is 00:15:05 He's so fun, man. Like he's always attacking, always sprinting up the ice. He's always leading the charge off the rush. He's sort of breaking the structure of. Greg Cronin's preferred style and still freelancing outside of it. And his skating is so good that he's able to get back defensively and recover and not allow it to be an issue. And so I wanted to shout him out because I just love watching this guy every time he's playing.
Starting point is 00:15:26 He's one of the best kept secrets in the NHL, man. He is so fun to watch. You're right. The freelancing ability is off the charts. He doesn't leave the ice. He does not leave the ice. As you mentioned, there's a couple moments that stand out. I think they were playing the Canucks last week.
Starting point is 00:15:40 and I watched him, you know, I think he was on the ice for three and a half minutes. And he didn't look like he was gassed at all. He was starting to play. He was joining the rush. He was coming back. He was even, I think it was an odd man rush. And he was still able to come back and stick check a defender, an offensive player and really start the rush again. So 11 points in his last 11 games, this Ducks team is actually pretty fun.
Starting point is 00:16:05 So, you know, to your listener there, I'm sure he's happy with the progress over the past month or So you look at Mason McTavich, he has 11 points in his past 10 games, points in 8 of 11, four power play points. Kerrhai in terms of ice time. He's just one goal and five points away from matching Kerrhai. How about Cutter Goce? Right? This is a nice rookie class.
Starting point is 00:16:24 And, you know, the minutes are not really there for him. He played sub 10 in his last game, but he has 10 points in his past 10 games. He's starting to rip the puck, two plus shots in 11 of 13, 3 plus and 5 of 8. So that's a duo that's really caught my eye lately. You have a Lecombe on the blue line. Leo Carlson has hit the score sheet here and there. a little bit. And that top line has been consistent for the most part with Petrano and Strom and Terry. So the ducks are going to fall short of the playoffs. But over the past two months,
Starting point is 00:16:50 they haven't been bottom feeders in terms of offensive production. They have been putting pucks towards the goal. They've been scoring goals. So I like the call. And Lecombe is we've just moved him up inside the top 25 in our defensive rankings. And his ownership is is now discreet about 50% for the first time all year. Yeah, he's he's also. I believe on Corey Schneider's tracking this season for the sample he has. He leads the league in possession exits per 60. He's in like the 98th percentile in terms of rush contributions. He's just attacking every time he's out there. And so, and with that volume, I mean, how can you not love that? I'd also include on this, list, and I think McTavish is a good shout. The power play goal he scored in that Utah game was
Starting point is 00:17:30 awesome off of a kind of like no look cross-team pass by Zegris. Olin Zellweger on this blue line, because we saw Brian Dumlin get traded out to New Jersey. right before the deadline. And because of that log jam on the left side, we'd seen them kind of alternating Zellweger and Minchikov as healthy scratches. I believe Zellweger's only played 47 of the team 65 games this year, and he's been healthy. And so three of the past four games since the deadline,
Starting point is 00:17:55 he's played over 20 minutes. He's got 24 shot attempts in that time. He's quarterbacking PowerPlay 1. Now, unfortunately, the Ducks are such an unoptimized team in terms of their usage that you look and, like, I actually prefer the talent on PowerPlay 2. so I'm not sure that's necessarily that they give him an advantage, but he's getting power play minutes, and now he's finally playing in a full-time role,
Starting point is 00:18:16 and hopefully that'll continue moving forward. And we've seen in brief glimpses in the NHL before, certainly the WHL where he was just an absolute rock star. This guy, if he gets the opportunity, is going to make good stuff happen out there. And so finally getting that opportunity, and I think it's an exciting future for him as well. So I'd like to see the environment improved
Starting point is 00:18:34 because they're still, as I said, 30th in the league in scoring. They're very inefficient. They don't have the puck. that much, but we're seeing some signs from some of these guys now are finally coming along. And I feel like these young blue liners in particular, in Lacombe, you know, we should note is a bit older. I think he's 24 now. So he's a bit further along in his development than guys like Mitchikov and Zelle Weggers.
Starting point is 00:18:54 So I think we've got to give them a bit of a grace period and more time to get there. But what we've seen from Lecombe now and if these other guys can come along, I think that's a really exciting blue line for them to build off of. So, yeah, I love Jackson Lecombe. All right. Who's next on your list? I want to give some love to Will Smith, you know, kind of stick within the rookie class in 35 points and 59 games, three goals and seven points here during a five game point streak. And early on, of course, like any rookie, even like Cutter Goce, the minutes were down, 13 minutes per game in his first nine games, only two points.
Starting point is 00:19:23 But he has quietly 20 points in his past 19 games leads all rookies and points since the break. He's got 12 and 10. And, you know, he's tie with Celebrini among rookies and points since January 1st. Lane Hudson leads with 25 and 28. But Will Smith has. 22 and 27. There was a moment there for a bit where they were playing together. And it was awesome to watch those two guys play together at 5 and 5. And they've shuffled the lines a little bit. Fabian Zetterlin was a surprise trade. I thought they'd hang on to him as another guy maybe to keep an eye on at Ottawa. I know he debuted on the fourth line, but could move up. But Will Smith, you know, more minutes for him lately. So he's shooting more as well, two plus and eight straight
Starting point is 00:20:00 games, averaging three shots per game over that span. I loved him, you know, watching last year, Boston, you know, he's not afraid to rip the puck. He's got a heck of a shot. A nice release. So he's been productive on the power play as well. So six points in his past nine games. No, the sharks are not going to bring too much to the table. But this is a guy where, you know, the usage rate is just much, much higher. And you can just see it with confidence, right?
Starting point is 00:20:21 Start and play a little bit more time on the power play, rip on the puck, puck fun in the back of the net. He's shooting a little bit more because of it. Yeah. What I love about him, as you could see early on that he was sort of just absorbing everything that was happening. And he was struggling out there, I think, adjusting to. going from the NCAA to NHL speed all of a sudden and trying to do the stuff that it previously
Starting point is 00:20:42 worked for him. But he's such a talented guy that he's quickly adjusted to that and he's really picked up the pace of it now and he's making plays within that speed. And yeah, as you said, points in nine of the last 11, I believe since the Four Nations break, he's tied for 14th in the entire league. In scoring, as you noted, early on, he played 15 games without a single shot on goal register. Last eight, he's rattled off four, two, six, two, two, 2, 3, 2, 3, 2, 3.3. So he's getting more volume there. And I also wanted to note, he's got 22 assists this year, 17 of them, I believe, have been of the primary variety. So he hasn't even really gotten a benefit from, you know, just being out on the ice and having some
Starting point is 00:21:21 puck touches, but then getting someone else to create a play, it feels like when he's out there, he's either the one on the receiving end as the trigger man or, like, directly setting stuff up. So I'm sure that'll come along as the shark's team improves in the future as well. And, yeah, I love seeing young players like this in real time, just stack together. these types of performances where you can see that they're figuring it out. And I feel like he's one of the best examples of that this year. All right. Next guy on my list here.
Starting point is 00:21:44 I got one final one before we go to break. Let's do Quinn Byfield. So I think last time you and I chatted, we talked about the Kings within the context of Kevin Fiala specifically. Now Byfield has been playing with Fiala and that duo has been awesome. We saw a little glimpse for a couple games with Adrian Kempi on that line and they were unbelievable. More recently, we've seen them with Alex Laferrier.
Starting point is 00:22:06 175, five on five minutes for those three. They're up 11 to 3, 62% of the shots, 62% of the expected goals. Now, Byfield started the year super quiet, right? And I think he was incredibly disappointing based on what he did last year. He only had three goals and 11 points in his first 30 games. 13 goals, 25 points, and 35 games since then, since the start of February, 16 points and 15 games has a goal in five straight. And you watch a lot of those goals, but especially what sticks out to me is the overtime winner last weekend against the blues. and just what a weapon his shot is when he uses it.
Starting point is 00:22:39 It's got incredible velocity, able to pick his corners. It's a legit threat. It's not one of these sort of muffins or kind of tap-in goals. Like he's getting full marks for the goals he's scoring. And I think that makes it kind of disappointing or tantalizing that he shoots as infrequently as he does for whatever reason, just unwilling to just fully unleash it, prefers to be a bit more of a playmaker,
Starting point is 00:23:03 especially with playing with Fiala makes sense because Fiala is often the, trigger man and much more confident in that role. But given the success, I think there's hope, especially since this guy is only 22 years old. And it feels like we've been so rushed or critical in determining what he's going to be as a player, whether he's going to live up to the hype. The way he's played recently has been awesome. That trio just destroyed the capitals on Thursday night and an impressive 3-0 home win.
Starting point is 00:23:27 And so if he keeps this up, it genuinely changes the outlook for the Kings, in my opinion. It gives them a bonafide top scoring line. And I just want to keep seeing him shoot. more and more because it's always a treat to see it and it's obviously been wildly effective here recently. I couldn't believe the trade rumors surrounding him and you never know what's real and what's not. Yeah, I never bought that for a second.
Starting point is 00:23:46 That would have been crazy. It's like there's no way that Kings move off from this guy and you're right, a slow start, but he played on the wing last year for the most part with Kempay and Kopitar and he's a natural center. So maybe just, of course, as a young player, it takes a little bit of time to adjust. I mean, it's an important position,
Starting point is 00:24:02 especially in your own end defensively. And yeah, I saw what you saw. He was willing to feed Kevin Fiala. We did talk about Fiala and all the shot attempts that he's had. But yeah, 11 assists in eight games in February where he averaged over 20 minutes per game. And now here in March, he doesn't have an assist. He's got the five goals, which you alluded to through the seven games. So evening out a little bit.
Starting point is 00:24:22 Great call by you. The Kings, too. We have a cheat sheet schedule the rest of the way. Looking at fantasy hockey playoffs, the Kings have a lot of home games remaining. They are a strong home team. That was an impressive win, as you mentioned, against the Washington. Capitals. So yeah, quitting Byfields and Fiala, Fiala zone, but Byfield is actually still out there in some of the shallower leagues out there, 18, 10 team leagues. And I just think it's a
Starting point is 00:24:46 no brain to roster this guy. Well, we were talking about Cousins kind of motivation or incentive to play your hardest down the stretch. Something we maybe take for granted. I feel like especially as we get to these final 10 to 50 games of the season, I think the incentives are there for a lot of young guys, regardless of their team's level, because they're just like. like they're looking to get more reps and build off of the development they've had within the season. Some guys might start getting shut down or having their minutes limited or they're banged up at this point and aren't going to be themselves. This Kings team has an incredible amount of incentive the rest of the way. They're one point up on the Oilers now for second in the Pacific.
Starting point is 00:25:23 So if they are going to play them for a fourth straight year, I feel like having home ice would be incredibly important considering their 22, 3 and 4 at home with a plus 36 goal differential, which is by far the best in the league. mentioned 12 of the final 18 regular season games at home gives them an opportunity to keep building on that. So just talking about sort of favorable environments and guys set up to succeed, it feels like the way they've been playing with a lot of these games at home that are incredibly important for them, I imagine we'll see the best of what they have to offer. And yeah, for Byfield and Fiala, that's continuing to do what they do. I mean, so much speed, so dynamic together. And if it involves byfield shooting a little bit more, then that's just gravy. So I love watching those guys. guys play. All right, Meanie, let's take our
Starting point is 00:26:06 break here and then we come back, we'll jump back into where we're going to keep going back and forth on some names that have really impressed us here recently. You're listening to the HockeyPedio cast streaming on the SportsNet radio network. All right, we're back here in the HockeyPedioCast joined by Chris Meany we're going to keep the good times going.
Starting point is 00:26:28 Keep going through players that have impressed us, guys, and good positions to thrive here down the stretch. We'll see how deep we can get into our list. I generally feel like I over-prepared for these because I know they your bag is incredibly deep and you do this for a living every day. So you're going to come come hot at me. I thought I was prepared today. I feel like we've already gone through a good number of my guys because there's been so much overlap.
Starting point is 00:26:47 And you've cited a couple guys like cousins and Will Smith that were on my list as well. I've got a few more though. I think it's your turn because I gave us quitting byfield before the break. So who's next in your list? So this isn't super deep. But I know you love this player. And I really wanted to bring him up because his ownership in Yahoo, was like 35% and it blows my mind.
Starting point is 00:27:08 It's Pavl Dorf. I don't understand it. I just, I love talking about him with you. I love hearing your thoughts about him. And he scored again on Thursday night. And this is a guy that is just, he's lethal when it comes to his shot.
Starting point is 00:27:23 He's right there in terms of high danger chances, scoring chances, you know, with Eichel. Hurdle's the guy, actually, that really leads his team in goals and high danger chances. But these two together, have been phenomenal. I mean, six points, 26 shots in the past seven games for Dorfayev, looking now second in the team in goals and shots and shot attempts. He's got 30 plus shot
Starting point is 00:27:45 attempts over his past four games. And I look at hurdle as well as another guy using the edge stats. He's inside the top 10 in high danger shots and high danger goals. And we're used to seeing Vegas be aggressive at the deadline over the past few years. I mean, this is a team that is, they're not shy of trading their their top picks for talent. And I think, because they made the moves last year at this time for Hurdle and Hanofin and hurdle wasn't 100% he didn't play a whole lot before the trade with the sharks and then the breakout campaign here from Dorofa have I think that's why they were fairly quiet at the deadline so those two were impressive I don't know how long Brendan Saude plays alongside them but he was productive yesterday as
Starting point is 00:28:25 well in that game against the blue jacket so just wanted to bring him up as a guy like yeah we've talked about him maybe we get it uh if you have them great if you don't you're sleeping go pick him up because he could be a difference maker for the rest of the way. Yeah, I love the Dorofiav call. I mean, he's just an unbelievable shooter. And I feel like being on that top unit power play, which has been top three in the league the entire season, and you watch even their most recent game against Columbus, the way they whip the puck around.
Starting point is 00:28:51 There's going to be great A shooting opportunities. It feels like every golden night's game I watch, whether he scores or not, there's at least four or five times where Dorofiav, it is a great scoring position and gets an incredible look. And it's just a matter of whether he converts on that night or not. But that's what we're looking for here. who are in spots to succeed who have those opportunities that he's clearly getting. I like him with hurdle as well because hurdle attracts so much attention, especially kind of in that net front home plate area and with so many bodies on him and guys kind of trying because
Starting point is 00:29:18 one defender realistically is not going to be able to box him out. He's so strong around the net. He generally attracts two or three guys and it's almost kind of like a low post basketball player, right? You like pass it into him, gets the double team, gets the entire defense to suck it on him. And then all of a sudden kicks it out for an open shooter. And that's exactly what we're seeing between him and Dorofiev. And whether it's sod there, or I imagine they're going to put Barbashev back into a top six role. Eventually, we'll see William Carlson come back at some point.
Starting point is 00:29:46 And then that's going to bump Nick Guad of the third center role. He might start playing as a bit more of a wing playmaker on this team because of their center depth. So there's a ton of interchangeable parts there. But one of them that's not is Dorofiev because his shooting ability on this team is such a valuable weapon. And so he's firmly entrenched in that top six. top unit power play role and it's a great spot for him to be in. So I love that. I love that call.
Starting point is 00:30:08 I mean, anytime I know we talk about him every time you and I get together, but if we do it for the next 10 times, I won't complain because there's so much meat on the bone there with him. All right, here's the next guy on my list. Probably owned in, in Everly because he's ninth in the league in scoring.
Starting point is 00:30:23 But just given the context of today's show and the theme, I wanted to shot him out because he's been playing really well in adverse circumstances recently, and that's Jasper Bratt. I think early on this season, I imagine a lot of the Reddit for their success went to Jack Hughes. And I think deservedly so, he's an incredible player. And they miss him dearly right now. But since the Hughes injury, they played five games.
Starting point is 00:30:47 Brad has eight points. He factored into all three of the goals they scored on Thursday night against Edmonton, back-to-back three-point games for him. He's been on the ice for nine of the 15 goals, the Devils have scored since Jack Hughes went out. I feel like when he plays with Hughes, he's sort of, refers as or kind of molds his game into more of a facilitator or distributor, right? Like he certainly carries the puck, gets them into the zone, but then he passes it off and looks to distribute a bit more.
Starting point is 00:31:13 In the past couple of games, we've seen him, I think he uses shot a little bit more often. I think that's a real weapon for him. I'm curious to track this moving forward to see if that continues and whether he leans on that a bit more because I think he'll certainly have success doing so. And they're trying to spread out their lines just so they're not so, you know, easily, just so it's not so easy for opposing defenses to load up on the one line, but we saw even in that game against Edmonton situationally, Sheldonke's comfortable putting Brat with his year and Meyer and kind of loading up that line. They were able to create two goals in that
Starting point is 00:31:47 tight game by doing so. And so in some of these games where they need offense, we might see even more of that. So that's exciting. And then I think even on his own, if it's going to require him to shoot more, I expect the goals and the points to keep coming. And I wanted to shout him out because I feel like he's such an underrated player, right? He's tied for sixth in 5-15 primary assists with McDavid and Kuturov. All situations, he's sixth and primary assists as well, ninth in points. As I said, he's on pace for 93 this year. And no one really ever gives him love because he just kind of falls into the category of a superstar's running mate.
Starting point is 00:32:18 But he's holding up his end of the bargain now and kind of carrying this team offensively. And that's been super exciting to watch. You know, it's a great call and worthy of being talked about. I thought he was great in a four nations face off as well. when I watch him play sometimes and just, I'm always blown away, but I'm like, man,
Starting point is 00:32:35 shoot it, rip it. Because I do feel like he, he passes it off sometimes. And that was one of the first things I, I talked to Pete Jensen of NHL.com about when I joined him. Like, we have Brat way too low.
Starting point is 00:32:46 But we have Hughes as a top 12 fantasy hockey skater. Brat should be right there with him. I really feel like he's on his level and in terms of production. And over the past couple games, and playing with Cody Glass. I don't know, you know, glass is probably not somebody you're going to pick up.
Starting point is 00:33:00 Maybe you're streaming him, you know, and the Devils play, you know, on a Saturday, Sunday. Maybe you're looking for a cheap DFS play or in the prop market. But three games, he's got three points. He has four shots, very, very small sample size, but averaging a little bit more minutes, one minute more per game here with the Devils and the Penns. And he's played with Brad over the past couple of games. And Luke Hughes is another guy, right, stepping up for Dougie Hamilton, who's done for the regular season, five points in his past five games.
Starting point is 00:33:26 He's got a couple games of 25 minutes and 27 minutes of late as well. So I know a lot of people want to kind of out the devils. He still got a lot of firepower up front. Dawson Mercer's another guy. You know, he had a, I think he had goals in back-to-back game. So we'll keep an eye on him. But right now it's Cody Glass. It's playing alongside Bratt.
Starting point is 00:33:42 And it's very valuable. I feel like Meyer as well, right? Earlier on this year, getting a lot of opportunities and shot volume, not really converting on it or making the most of it. We've seen, I think it was last year. We're on the calendar kind of flipped a march. He really turned it on and started making up for it with a school scoring barrage. And we've seen that from them in the past as well.
Starting point is 00:33:59 well. So, yeah, especially if he's going to get some of these minutes with, I mean, he's playing Myers full time with his year and they're using Stefan Mason there at 5-1-5, but we're going to see him with Brad as well. And obviously a focal point on the power play. So a lot of opportunity there for him. Okay, who's next on tap for you? Let's talk about HAB. You know, not a lot of reasons to talk about them outside of Lane Hudson in that top line, but your ice Lofkoski has been very noticeable for me over the past couple of weeks. And this is a player last year who started off very slow and then had a wicked second half. I think he had 30 points in his final
Starting point is 00:34:33 33 games. The ice time jumped up and I think most Canadian fans or even fantasy hockey owners were a little bit upset with the start and they probably ditched him because he wasn't really productive but six goals and 11 points in his past 10 games. He's averaging 1.5 shots
Starting point is 00:34:49 per game this season and 3 over his past 10 games. Six games over this run with four plus hits, a couple games with 8, 6 and 5 he was on record talking about. how much he loved Brady Kachuk's game at the Four Nations faceoff and he wanted to play a lot like Brady Kachuk. His first game out of the break happened to be against the Sends. He had a big game. He had eight hits there. Brady didn't play. But he was trying to play like him. And you know what? That top line has been really, really productive for the Canadians. It seems like it's the only line that does anything offensively for the squad. Suzuki leads all skaters out of the four nations break with 17 points and nine games. Caulfield is among the leaders and five and five goals this season as well. So that's been a trio that's been extremely productive. really all year long. But Slavkoski was moved away from that line.
Starting point is 00:35:32 Martin St. will we put him back there with those two. And I think he fits in nicely because of his physicality. He wins a lot of puck battles. He's actually a sneaky playmaker. But what I have noticed lately, like some of the other guys that we've talked about on this list, like Cutter Goethe and Will Smith,
Starting point is 00:35:46 younger players, a little bit more confidence in shooting the puck a little bit more. And he does have a nice release. So Slavkoski in those leagues, shots and hits, power play points, productive on that first unit as well, is somebody that can help you out. Yeah, I like that a lot.
Starting point is 00:36:00 I mean, clearly just using his physical tools more functionally and leveraging that. And I think confidence plays a big role in that, as you said, with the level Nick Suzuki's been playing at and how he's been producing. It's a great spot to be on the ice with him in Caulfield. So checking a lot of boxes there. And, you know, that line just really just cooked the Canucks the other night.
Starting point is 00:36:20 I believe it was on Tuesday night when they were playing in Vancouver. They just took over early on, and the Canucks really had no answer for it. So I like that qual, quite. a bit. I mean, another sort of big power forward who's in a really good spot lineup-wise is Will Cooley to me, because recently we saw they've been sort of messing around with the lines, moving Zabinajad, which was a good call by you last time, because you were saying he was going to uptick his production. I was saying, sell if you still can. He's been very effective offensively playing on the wing with J.T. Miller since the Four Nations break, really. But
Starting point is 00:36:52 Will Cooley, as a result, has stepped up onto the top line. We saw that on Thursday night in Minnesota. They had a really strong showing with him Panarin and Trochec. We've seen Panarin and Trojic last year have a ton of success playing with Alexei Lefrenier in that spot. And so Cooley has, you know, eight points in his last 12 games adds a nice dimension to that line. And Trojik, I believe like around during the Four Nations tournament, he broke his thumb or had some sort of a hand injury. And I feel like he struggled really since like a lot of his shot attempts have not looked the way they used to for him. So I imagine that's kind of ailing him quite a bit, but we know what Panarin certainly is capable and those two guys at the very least have chemistry
Starting point is 00:37:32 together. So I feel like the assignment for a guy like Kuli who does have skill, but was playing in more of a third line role for a lot of the season. All of a sudden now, just work really hard, skate towards the net, make yourself available and good things are going to happen. And I think he's more than qualified to do that. So we'll see how long he sticks on that top line. I met like the Rangers like to mix and match. And I'm sure we're going to see different. combinations, but for the time being and for as long as he's going to play there, I feel like he's going to be pretty productive at 5-15 at the very least. Yeah, it seems to be working at the moment and you're right. He is extremely physical. His last game, seven hits. I mean, you can look at the
Starting point is 00:38:04 back of the hockey card. There's a lot of games with four plus hits. And that's productive, especially if you're playing it in those leagues with hits. I think they're trying to find a way to get Alexi Lafranier going, very disappointing season from him after what was such a strong second half. And I thought he at times, most times, he was like the best player for the Rangers throughout that playoff run. I thought he was playing really good hockey and I expect a little bit more from him. But a nice call there from Kulio, keep it going here. Get your thoughts on Logan Stancovin and the Carolina Hurricanes, of course, like Mikolran
Starting point is 00:38:34 and get it traded a couple times. It didn't work out for him all that well. Stancovin, the five minutes haven't been there. I noticed his first game he played nearly eight minutes on the power play in like seven minutes at five and five. in the last game he was with Martin Hook and Jordan Stahl. So kind of in a little bit of a checking role there. And those three players were bottom five or bottom three in terms of five and five ice time.
Starting point is 00:38:57 But he's getting an opportunity on the power play. Did score a power play goal. And then another guy that we talked about, I think a few weeks ago, is Jackson Blake. And I know he's not doing much lately. But now of a sudden he's back up on that top line with Aho and Jarvis. And Spesikov's been, you know, I don't. think he's 100%, but he hasn't been super productive. So there's an opportunity for him in deeper leagues, but I'd like to get your thoughts on the addition of Stan Coven. And if you think
Starting point is 00:39:25 he's worthy of an ad or a pickup or what you expect to see, like, because I, Rod Brennamore, he'll shuffle, right? He'll roll all four. We know that. And, and he'll shuffle at a, at any moment where we could see Stan Coven next to Aho, you know, 90% of the rest of the way. Or he could stick in, you know, on that third line, which we, we did see Jarman. on that third line for quite some time. And I think Jarvis is, I think the best plan for Rod would be to have Jarvis with Ahio. But Stan Kovin's a guy that I think we could see him on that top line. And I think he could be productive with those two.
Starting point is 00:39:59 Yeah, it's bizarre, especially considering how lethal Aho and Jarvis have been as a combination on the penalty kill this year, that for whatever reason they haven't really been that interested or willing to stick with them full time at 515. Aho's had a bit of a strange season at 515 this season, not really up to his usual standards. I like that call just because it's a bet on the talent, and I'm still completely undeterred in my belief that Logan Stancovin is an awesome player. What we saw from him down the stretch last year started this year. Obviously, he's been incredibly snake-bidden shooting like 6% or whatever at the time of the trade,
Starting point is 00:40:31 but he's got a rare skill set of skill, especially as a puck carrier because of his motor that I think is very useful for this Kane's team. And then obviously the puck hounding and forechecking ability is going to endure him to Roderindam to Roderindamore. and keep giving him consistent minutes. And so if he's, I don't love him from a fantasy perspective, if he's going to be playing with Jordan Stahl and Jordan Martinuk at 5-on-5, I don't know how many scoring opportunities are going to be there for them.
Starting point is 00:40:56 But if he's able to work his way up the lineup, and as you said, Brindobor's had the lines in a blender. He's going to try different stuff. And so he could get up into a role playing with Ajo. That would be exciting. I'd love to see that moving forward. And, yeah,
Starting point is 00:41:09 with his playmaking ability and ability to play at the pace the hurricanes prefer to play at, I feel like it's a natural fit. And you just bet on the math as well. Like eventually he's going to, he's too talented to keep shooting 6%. Eventually some of those are going in for him. We already saw the one goal he scored on the power play kind of bounced in off of him. And if he keeps just being in those positions, more of that's going to happen for him moving forward.
Starting point is 00:41:31 So I like that one. Here's the next player on my list. No surprise again. I'm very on brand. But Alexi Protis, I just, when we're talking about players we love and guys that have impressed us, obviously had the hat truck the other night in. Anaheim 6-6. You're going to love this because of obviously you work with the NHL edge stats.
Starting point is 00:41:52 So I'm a little bit of a plug there for that in the 90th percentile in both top speed and skating burst this year at 6-6. Now, never hits, never throws hits. And so if you're playing in those bangers league, he's not going to give you a lot there. He's only played 955 of total power play time this year for the caps and has just the one power play assist with demand advantage. but he's been a 5-15 demon. He's tied for eighth and 5-15 goals, seventh and 5-15 points. The caps are up 59 to 34 in his 5-15 minutes,
Starting point is 00:42:24 draws a bunch of penalties. It's just such a cool player to watch and so effective. You know, certainly the on-ice and individual shooting percentages have been inflated for him as they have for much of the caps this year. But man, the way he just attacks off the rush and how impossible he is to corral. It's really fun to watch.
Starting point is 00:42:42 It's very easy to see why they've been so effective. Pierre Luke Dubois, as a playmaker, has been playing really well, I believe he's amongst the league leaders in at least 5-1-5 points, if not a total point since the Four Nations break, over a point of game. And he's been really effective as well. That combination is a nightmare to play against because there's so much size and range and skill with those frames. And PLD's been looking for him as a passer. Protis has been finishing. And so, yeah, I wanted to give him some love here because he's been incredible. and I think people are finally starting to sort of like notice it and share the admiration.
Starting point is 00:43:19 It's been a long time coming, but I feel like still the sky is the limit for him because when you're able to move at this size and shoot the way the puck he has this year and the strides he's made in both those elements of his game this season, after them being legitimate weaknesses for him as a prospect and the reason why he wasn't a high pick, he's put in so much work, he's gotten so much better and he's been one of the best even strength players in the league this season. Yeah, he has. And we just put out a graphic of the top five breakout candidates. And he was on there. And again, I'll show up the team, Pete Jensen. We were just taking a look at overall rankings and seeing him outside the top 150. And again, it's just because he doesn't hit and shoot that much. You can't harm him for that. You can't fault him for those two categories because, I mean, he's got 58 points.
Starting point is 00:44:02 He's got more points than, you know, his ownership. His only 54% is criminal because he has been great. The capital has been awesome all year along. There's so many things that went bright for Washington in the offseason. and right. Pierre Luc Dubois, you're right. He is, I think last time I check, which was on Wednesday, he was top 10. I think he was tied for 10th in 5 and 5 points. So he has been great, productive, didn't work out from in LA. It looks a lot like the player he did in Winnipeg. You're having Ovechkin scoring at, you know, a ridiculous pace at his age chasing down Wayne Gretzky. How about Tom Wilson, right? He's, he's scoring as well. I heard him miced up. Was it against the ducks the other night? He was miced up and he was talking about
Starting point is 00:44:37 how like goal scorer should get those calls now. And I think it was Strom who was laughing at him. He's like, hey, listen, I'm a goal score now. I deserve those calls. And then Jacob Tricker on the back end, getting, you know, it's a nice tandem in net with Lingren and in Thompson. So I really like that call. And, you know, again, he is available out there. And, you know, he could certainly help you.
Starting point is 00:44:56 I have a couple other guys here. Yeah, let's get through him. Adam Fantilly is 34% own. I don't think we need to discuss him too much. We always seem to like Dorofae. I don't understand. I get a couple questions. Like, should I hang on to Adam Fantilli?
Starting point is 00:45:07 Will he hold his spot down with John Monaghan returns? And he may or he, may not, but he's going to be in a top six role. And right now he's 27 points in his past 27 games. So there's no reason to move off from him. There's no reason to sell high, just ride this thing out. You're not sure. Who knows what the status of Monaghan is going to be? I know he was working really well with Marchenko and Veronica off on that top line before the injury, but career high in terms of goals and points. And then, you know, we discussed Josh Norris a little bit. You know, more about Dylan Cousins. But I think Norris too, and I know he only is a couple
Starting point is 00:45:40 shots two and in three games, but, you know, he's got a couple points and it is a very small sample size, but right away, just being able to play with the best player on the ice and Tage Thompson, you want to, you know, dive into edge stats. I mean, Tage Thompson is an edge standout. The guy checks every single box in terms of hardest shot and shot attempts and high danger chances. So top line first power play, small sample like I mentioned, but a little bit more ice time with the Buffalo Sabres. He's got a 35 goal season on his resume, 21 this season. So he is somebody that is definitely available. He was one of the most dropped players at the time of the trade.
Starting point is 00:46:15 And although he's with the Sabres, they score goals. They can't come out of their net, but they score a lot of goals, especially at 5 and 5. So a really good opportunity for him and maybe even a better one than Dylan Cousins, although I like the ad and the player Cousins more with Ottawa and the fit. But from a fantasy hockey perspective, Norris is in a pretty good opportunity to have success at the moment. Yeah, Tage has been incredible, especially since he got left off of the Four Nations Team USA roster. He's going to score like 40 goals or 40 or more this year with only a handful of
Starting point is 00:46:47 Powerboy goals to his name. What he's doing at 5-1-5 is incredible. And we've seen him ripping the puck the way he was two years ago when he really broke out onto the scene. You're never going to believe this. But I did just see, as we were talking, Lance Lissowski, who covers the Sabres and has been on the show before tweeted that Josh Norris is being evaluated by the Sabres medical staff.
Starting point is 00:47:08 Ed Lindy Ruff says it's something he's been dealing with. with. So I know that's going to be a complete shock for you to hear that Josh Norris is banged up. But yeah, it's very unfortunate for him that this keeps happening, especially with looking at by comparison, the success that the cousins is having in Ottawa. You mentioned Fantilia there. Yeah, I think part of that is just the people just assuming that when Wanahan comes back, he's going to go to the top line. And the past couple of games have not been very good for the blue jackets. And so maybe if this continues and he comes back, they will go down. route, but the opportunity is going to be there.
Starting point is 00:47:42 Fantilli's shown enough growth in his game this season that it's not like he's all of a sudden going to get back to the role, bump back to the role he was previously or last year. He's going to be playing with other good players regardless. And that hat trick he had last Sunday at MSG. I feel like all of his talents and that line's talents were on full display, right? Like the battle winning down low, the passing from Archenko and Varankov, the rush ability from Fantili. It was incredible.
Starting point is 00:48:07 And he's really been showing more and more frequently what he's capable of physically. So I love that call on Fantilli. And yeah, I would, I'm surprised to hear the number is that low on them. You had any others on your list that we've gotten through? I feel like we've kind of knocked off pretty much everyone that I really wanted to talk about here with you today. I'm sure you have a couple others though.
Starting point is 00:48:26 Yeah, too bad about Norris to scratch all that, unfortunately for him. But it's some deep league stuff on the way out. I know some people play in like some 16 team leagues. Jordan Eberle is a guy that's, I've noticed lately. You know, he missed a lot of time this season, but he's, His minister's starting to get ramped up. The Cracken are their hard team to figure out where the offense is going to come from night in and night out. But I thought him and Chandler Stevenson looked pretty decent the other night against the Canadians,
Starting point is 00:48:50 you know, four points in his past few games, 26 games of the season, just the 17 points and 12 shots. He does have 24 high danger shots in 26 games, which is roughly around league average, but he was in the 91st percentile last year in that department. So he does get to those hard areas and he does like to rip it. Casey Middlestad, an opportunity for him in Boston. Of course, the linemates are not going to be as good in Boston as they were in Colorado. And you know, you know, you own Brock Nelson. You love that move to Colorado.
Starting point is 00:49:20 You own and Chushkin, you love that for those two guys in Duran. That was a nice debut, those three had. And Brock Nelson, I believe he was moved to the top power play. I think in game number two with the abs. But Casey Middle sat up on that top power play, three games. He has five shots and three points. And I know the Bruins really are definitely top heavy at the moment. moment and Pashternak's been fantastic, geeky, a little bit of a breakout in Zaka.
Starting point is 00:49:43 Other than that, I don't really have a lot going on for them. But Casey Middlestat and just a deeper league, just a change of scenery, another change of scenery for him. I expect the usage rate to at least be high the rest of the way. Yeah, we had a Bruids fan listener to Discord last night actually say, I've been talking all season about how slow Casey Middlestad was on the abs and how he kind of stuck out like a sore thumb on that team. And I've been pretty critical of the pace he plays at.
Starting point is 00:50:08 And the listener was like, man, I've been watching Bruin centers all season. Casey Middlestad looks pretty lightning quick to my eye. And so it's all about a perspective, I guess. And it's all relative. But I feel like, man, not that it's surprising because he's obviously been such a rock star for years now, but Pasternak having 34 goals and 82 points in 67 games,
Starting point is 00:50:26 given the state of the Bruins and how every one of those is earned the hard way by him just doing all the work, especially in the second half of the season. I feel like we're seeing other great point totals, of course, and he's not going to finish. anywhere near the MVP discussion because the Bruins have been so mediocre this season, but it's an incredible
Starting point is 00:50:45 accomplished my opinion, the fact that he's had this productive of the season with how bad everything around him has been. So shout out David Pasternak. All right, Meena. That's all the time we have for today. This was fun. We hopefully will help people out. I certainly enjoyed going through a lot of these guys, especially it helps. I saw that
Starting point is 00:51:01 breakout list that you guys tweeted out from the NHL page. I felt like you should have put up my name on the assignment as well. I feel like it was just a lot. lot of my guys and it was incredibly fun seeing guys like Godther and Protis of course. And I think Marchenko was on it getting a lot of love. They deserve all of it. Let the listeners know more about that then. Plug some stuff. Let them know where they can check you out and kind of what you're up to these days.
Starting point is 00:51:23 It was really hard to leave Dorfay off the list. No, Capitals fans are pretty upset. That Mick Michael wasn't on there either. It's like, listen, we can't put every Washington player on there. But we had some fun with that list and just nice to interact with some of the fans. So yeah, we're doing a lot of that on our Twitter account, NHL Fantasy and our IG as well. I know some graphics, just helping the people down the stretch here. I mentioned the cheat sheet a couple times, you know, updating that daily with just back-to-back games, strength of schedule, remaining home games.
Starting point is 00:51:49 You mentioned the Kings and how dominant, right? That could maybe split a tie with some of these players that you're looking to pick up down the stretch. Starting point is 00:52:14 And I believe we just pumped out an article today on the Vegas Golden Knights, a little bit more Dorofa and hurdle love is a team that was quiet at the deadline, but a pretty good path, I think, in the Pacific. So it should be a lot of fun. Love chopping it up with you. Love listening to the show. Keep up all the great work, Moutreystrey. So thanks for having me, man.
