In the first day, he rolled back a lot of Biden-era things that we were proud of. I feel like my brain is allowing me to think about this to a certain amount. You know what I mean? like i feel like i've it's i've gotten to the point with this where like i can only consume so much which is a privilege but it's truly truly exhausting and i can't even imagine how people feel that are in these marginalized communities that were directly affected by these things that happened on monday his first day it's just like i don't know it's gross it just feels like there's no like the whole like sanctity of like the democratic process feels dead it's just

exhausting it's like you know it's bad and then when it's like really thrown in your face you're like oh my fucking god it really is this bad it just feels like a joke like it feels like a sick joke that it's like how can it be this bad oh i so after elon musk uh hit the the nazi sig heil um like with his full fucking chest like he was dabbing um grunted too there was like a whole his whole body was behind it i mean everything about it gives me the ick you know and uh what was even more insane was i was like there's no fucking way people are gonna excuse this i'm like is he is he trolling his die hard like fans to the point he's like i wonder how they're gonna cover this up for me he i think that he just wants to be a villain so bad and like he just

doesn't need to try that hard because he is he's yeah he's a villain that you are a villain but we also think you're fucking stupid yeah um it's everything that he does is for like the soundbite like remember when he bought twitter he like brought in like a whole sink because he was throwing out everything but this thing that's how he is it's like he wants to do these things that are like like a media moment because he has zero substance as a person i think that's where him and trump align on just being like i want to make headlines yeah well and that was trump's goal the first um the first term he served he served the next thing he should be serving is a prison sentence but we'll get there eventually yeah uh but i think his goal was to just make headlines

and here's what i'm kind of realizing like when that is your goal he did an excellent job he did an excellent job being shocking and making headlines and getting people riled up every single day yeah um to the point now where i think a large portion of us are just kind of desensitized to it and that's also bad yeah um like we're desensitized to these shocking headlines so then when elon musk did do a nazi salute because that's what it is when you if you see it with your fucking eyes and you use your brain at the same time and you comprehend what is happening it's easy to see that's what it was right you know yeah um i say that about like stupid people that i have to deal with like online at work yeah like just use your brain and your eyes at the same

time yeah just use a mask yeah you do it all the time yeah um but being desensitized to headlines like that so when by the time you know elon musk is doing a nazi salute at the presidential inauguration like you have people who are able to dismiss it as just like no he's just fucking weird like because we've seen so many shocking headlines to at this point that it's like could this possibly be happening and it is so shocking and like it's shocking to witness in our lifetime totally yeah it's shocking but it's not surprising and like that is a really gross place to land someone i'll explain like um someone shared this on their instagram uh story their handle is neoliberal hell and i think that she's really fucking funny um but she said

why did he do this like genuinely why and it and it's a good question yeah and she said i get that he's a nazi but that doesn't answer why he did it yeah and someone dm'd her and said the online discourse is oh he's a nazi versus no he's autistic which is fucking a bullshit ass excuse but whatever yeah but why did he do it precisely because he's an extremely online autistic nazi case closed and then her commentary under that is like is like yeah obviously it doesn't really matter whether or not elon musk identifies with nazism or whatever because everything he is and believes and desires is fascist i'm just kind of shocked that he like identifies it identifies with it that way to that extent and he's so socially incompetent that he felt comfortable and good

about expressing it like that yeah and i that like completely explains exactly how i was like how i felt and how i was trying to process it like why would you do that like it doesn't matter how fucking online and stupid and fascist you are the fact that you would do a nazi salute in this day and age yeah is insane yeah it is it just feels like there is no like i understand the appeal of it being like no more like politicians in politics we need like people that just say it how it is but like the complete lack of decorum that like this this whole the whole like trumpism trump era group of people have is like actually terrifying it's like it's so mask off racist it's so mask off nazi it's so it's like they're really leaning into like the

absolute worst of who they are and so all of these awful awful people are feeling emboldened to be the same because the people at the top are saying the things that they're feeling so now they're just like going around and like wreaking havoc and yeah there's no rules there's no rules i and honestly i'm i'm gonna say um potentially something controversial yet brave uh if you want to do some illegal shit just put on a fucking maga hat like it doesn't matter at this point yeah i think that i think it would be funny to be honest yeah it doesn't matter if you're maga or not just if you want to do some illegal shit put on your stupid fucking maga hat and you'll be yeah they'll have your back yeah you could do whatever you want did you see the video of that i hope that

the cops turn on maga they never will i don't know uh have you seen any of the news clips with the police officers who were at like the capitol building during the january 6th insurrection the people who assaulted them and even killed an officer have been pardoned yeah they've been completely pardoned 1200 of them and that is the biggest fuck you to the police yeah who have been like i mean a lot of police people a lot of cops are pro-trump you know yeah they are they are also nazis yeah but when people who are like back the blue divorced dads are also the ones storming the capital and killing cops yeah i mean we're trying to do their fucking job i just feel like the system never thought i'd be here defending a cop it just i know i know that's how you know it's bad

it it's the issue I think is like I those maybe that precinct is going to be like anti-MAGA but like as a whole they have like MAGA is like really the only group of people that are like supporting cops at this point like on you know there are like individuals that like aren't MAGA that support cops but like as a group it's in cops best interest to like partner with MAGA because like those are the ones that have like the back the blue stickers on their cars and like I don't know if it's ever going to get to the point of like them switching up on MAGA I don't think at this point too like things are going to get worse which I mean I've I had this conversation with myself a long time ago like I had already resolved to I'm not going to be someone who

doesn't do anything yeah um and obviously like you don't know how bad it's going to be in different places like i am very lucky to be living in seattle yeah a sanctuary city um so i you know if and when things are truly horrible i am willing i not to be too uh sad but mr liz and i were talking about it and i was like would you be willing to like risk your life to help people because i am and if you i don't think everyone needs to make that decision are you willing to risk your life but if you get if you know yourself and you know you're a person who would be willing to do that i was like it is kind of important for me to communicate that to my partner totally because if he's not willing to do the same thing we're not on the same page we don't have the same

values and he was like well yeah obviously and i was like all right let's fucking go wrap up baby yeah i mean i don't i mean i would never participate in violence unless i like was fighting for my life but yeah in terms of like helping people yeah you don't know what's gonna happen no um anyways uh i i don't know i feel like this might end up being our full conversation today but it's hard to not talk about when it's something that is so like historically marked that was something I was starting to say like I just watching that happen I was like there is no turning back from this moment now yeah like like sure shit was already crazy and we knew that and it's like okay let's just let's start to see what happens and then we can prepare and to see

addicted teenage boys yeah congratulations yeah you're 56 that's fucking weird yeah it's super fucking weird i did have some thoughts that i wrote down um they're still politically related so sorry folks but um i was thinking of i i've seen a lot of people do the spiraling that i've already done you know i i did my spiraling years ago like when we when we had to face a third election with Donald Trump at that point I was like we're fucked I know we're fucked I I thought he would win I hoped he wouldn't but I was like right I feel like he might um hope for the best expect the worst exactly yeah so at that point I was done spiraling about that um so I've been thinking more about how I've seen a lot of folks being like I don't know what to do like what do

we do and that always ends up being a conversation when something really insane happens it's like well what do we actually do and i was thinking of non-violent things that you can actually do and i hate to say this i think that uh you need to have willpower and i don't think a lot of people have a lot of willpower because our dopamine receptors are absolutely fucked from all the instant gratification we've been able to get in the last few years with social media and like cheaply made items that you can just buy on amazon um so this is going to require self-control um and i'm going to tell you exactly some ways that you can just really say like fuck you in your own in your own way and it's free um say fuck you for free yeah say fuck you

for free um so I am a social media manager and these apps make money by selling ad spaces to you and they do this because these companies work with larger corporations who help like collect your data um it could be data collected directly on the app it could be data that they're getting from third-party cookies there's a bunch of different ways for these businesses to collect data and sell ads to you so that's how all of these like other websites especially social media apps make money in the first place it's because ad spaces are incredibly expensive um and these companies spend a lot of money to figure out who their audiences are and um after what happened at the inauguration especially with elon musk delete your fucking twitter account i straight

up delete it you don't need to be on it i need to delete mine i couldn't figure out my password though it's like you need to enter your password i'm like i'm in the app what do you mean you're probably expecting people to delete it yeah they're like that's your wrong password yeah so um i'm delete your delete your twitter account and i would i'm also gonna say delete your instagram account and your facebook account if you can um and if you can't uh resolve to using it to spread for spreading information don't use it as like a replace don't use it for reels don't use it for shopping like hit them where it hurts and that is ad spaces um there are also websites where you can have you can request to have all of your personal data removed and like they legally

have to do it yeah um and stop buying from amazon just stop fucking buying from amazon altogether cancel your prime account uh also they don't actually honor like prime prices so if you see like prime delivery is free they've increased the price of that item if you didn't have a prime account uh it would be it would be a lower price you would just pay for shipping so it it doesn't even make a fucking difference anymore so cancel your prime account stop buying shit through amazon um and like buy it somewhere else and if you can buy your groceries like locally yeah not from whole foods yeah yeah not from whole foods i love um and i was also thinking more about things from a psychological standpoint because this is this is essentially psychological warfare at this point

and I was picking my brain and I was like what do what do I know what things have I collected over my over the last few years of like just my general curiosity about psychology and how our brains work and ultimately MAGA is a cult these people are stuck in a cult and you don't need to be nice to them or agree with them or agree with Republicans or whatever but they're going to start being curious they're going to start

questioning what they believe and like I think a lot of the people who were quick to try and like kind of sweep under the rug what Elon Musk did and be like I don't know maybe he's just fucking weird

like I think those people are going to get to a point where they're like I need to question more of the things I'm seeing. Yeah. They're going to start being curious. Yeah. And the more I thought about it, too, like, when someone is in a cult, you would want them to be deprogrammed. But deprogramming is very hard.

And I also don't think it's, like, our responsibility to deprogram people. Right. But the ways that you can help the most with deprogramming is not being defensive and asking questions. and you don't have to do that you can just fucking ignore them that's fine if they're gonna be like crying in the comments defending someone doing the the hitler salute yeah um i mean that's my whole thing is like i feel like i'm i have like resigned myself to believe that like it's they're so they're too far gone which is like probably not fair but it's like no i think that's completely valid and you need to you need to decide what is worth your energy is it worth

your energy like spiraling and doom scrolling over the same headlines over and over no yeah it's like okay i we knew what they're gonna do because they've they've been showing us who they are from the beginning don't also don't let the news make you feel hopeless that's what they want they want you to feel hopeless and exhausted because then you won't do anything you're gonna resign yourself to giving up and that's not who you are um that's not who we are uh they want you to not try and we're desensitized to headlines which is why a billionaire can give a nazi salute nothing will happen to him um but you don't need to be desensitized you don't need to be like well no one is fucking doing anything about this like believe your own eyes believe yourself believe

what you're seeing um but they also we know the dumb shit they're gonna do they wrote it all out in project 2025 yeah so we don't need to sit here and be like oh what are they going to do next we know what they're going to try and do so what we need to do is have a counter strategy which is just make it really a massive pain in the ass for them to accomplish anything um it's poking holes in their plans it's making their plans so fucking frustratingly difficult it's not just a rally or protest it's demonstrating something so going to something not just we're protesting and here's our thoughts and feelings it's like going to something that is going to make their jobs more difficult um but thinking about the brainwashing and the cult mindset from a psychological

standpoint um I thought about Esther Perel my girl um famous and well-known psychologist she has said that when there is a disagreement between two people it polarizes each person more yeah oh yeah um and when she was addressing this it was in the context of a relation specifically a relationship specifically but i think that this is true everywhere yeah um when you take two when you have two opposite opinions you polarize each other more um because you put the responsibility of the other side of the argument on the other person so it's easier for you to dig your heels in it's easier for them to dig their heels in because they don't have to consider what you're saying and you don't have to consider what they're saying

yeah um and when you're alone you have to have that internal debate yourself you have to think about both sides alone so it from this situation instead of like being defensive and digging your heels in just asking them to explain that and making them think we know logic won't work but it does diffuse the polarization yeah uh when you're curious uh and then this also made me think more about like when you're when you're allowing space for someone to think of the other side of an argument and they feel safe to question what they're seeing not that i think that these people are entirely logical this is called this is where persuasion comes in and persuasion is something i learned about in a podcast about uh russian spies love it um talk about

psychological warfare uh that shit's crazy but they practice persuasion when they have a mark that they are going to try and convince to do something they'll study this person for months like their habits their past whatever and they'll start planting seeds before it comes time for them to make a decision so by the time they do make a decision you're already in agreement and they don't even know it um damn yeah it's some like inception yeah that's where that's where i was trying to tie all of these things together with like with pre-suasion if you are like asking someone questions like well why do you think that why do you feel that way blah blah blah ultimately in this circumstance the answer is fear they're going to be doing whatever they're doing

because they're afraid and they're not going to get to that conclusion but if you're able to read between the lines you'll be able to understand that fear is the thing that is controlling their decision making um and people who are in a cult are usually susceptible to that because they don't have community they're usually like down on their luck they're lost they don't have like they're missing something that keeps them grounded um so persuasion is uh like how can we actually implement persuasion um besides asking questions like specifically like why do you think that way why do you feel that way it's values and i've talked about values a lot and i know that maybe it's annoying at this point but when like back to psychology if you were to ask someone in advance

like would you think it would be acceptable for a billionaire to get on stage and do a nazi salute at the inauguration if you asked them beforehand and they said no when they saw that happen they would be like what the fuck because it's they had clearly defined what where their boundaries are yeah so when you are talking about and assessing your values most of us have never questioned our values like you're raised to believe the values that you believe so you're like this is what i believe and this is just what i've been taught and and that's what i know and it makes sense like i'm not going to blame someone for not challenging their values if they were never like given a space to do that like what if you were reprimanded for questioning your parents

beliefs or whatever. Like there could be dire consequences. So if they've never had the space to be allowed to challenge their values or like determine what they are, this is a good opportunity to make people think about what their values are. And when I say values, I don't mean like, well, my values are like protecting my family or blah, blah, blah. A value is something like that is important in every sector of your life. So an example for me would be like security is important to me and then I look at the sectors of my life like in what way is security important to me at my job okay it means I make enough to have my basic needs met um it means that I have job stability it means in my relationship that I can trust my partner and that they're honest with me

but it also means I'm trustworthy and then you go one step further and it's you think about okay well how um how do I live those values how do I live those values in my relationships how do I live them at my job and like an example is like okay I want to I want a financially stable future so I plan ahead by putting 20 percent in my 401k every paycheck that's how I live that value of achieving security in the future so when you get more granular and you have people think about how are you what are your values and how do you live those values because it'll be a lot harder for them to just be persuaded by you know the republican party and like maga like it's like they i was thinking about it in terms of like names like other people are named liz that doesn't mean

we believe the same fucking thing yeah so you just because you identify as a republican because you have more conservative views doesn't mean that you need to accept other people's behavior yeah totally you know what is particularly terrifying with that like with the idea of changing minds or like being able to like consider other viewpoints is like do you see the speech that the bishop gave and how she was like saying that like i just hope you have mercy on these people that are counting on you and like just listed all these people that like need his mercy and then Donald Trump was like pissed and was like that was so nasty that was so rude like that was an awful sermon like he like posted on truth social about it or whatever but like what's particularly

scary about that is like if somebody on like the MAGA side heard that and was like I like that message like you know having mercy on people like love thy neighbor and then Trump comes out and is like no fuck that that was so nasty fuck your neighbor they're gonna be like that was so nasty like it's having the power to like change someone's minds that's like at a point is it they're brainwashed it feels like he's like overpowering the potential to like change someone's mind even a little bit which is really scary it's a massive cult it's they're they're they're literally brainwashed yeah and that is really scary but there are going to be people who are going to trickle away from this yeah like little by little and it is so easy to be

like no fuck these people they get what they deserve but i am asking that you don't have to agree with them you don't have to like them you don't have to talk to them we just need to allow people to change their minds in this specific circumstance because it is no longer like it's not it's not a political division this is it needs to be a class division and if these billionaires are convincing you to do their dirty work for them you're fucked yeah so if anyone is going to choose consciously to defect from that it's like okay we can figure out our political differences later but right now fuck these people we need to get things back to a state of normalcy Yeah. So, yeah, I mean, I was thinking about Star Wars on the way here and it's just like, OK, well, when it's represented in movies of like a stormtrooper leaving the stormtroopers like, well, who's to say that like some of these MAGA people weren't just indoctrinated into this by their family because they haven't had they haven't been given the space to challenge their values.

yeah so yeah if they are defecting from other stormtroopers you don't need to welcome them with open arms but you should be like yeah this shit's wrong i'm glad that you figured it out but yeah right yeah i mean i've seen it happen with like people that i know you know like that were like raised by republicans that then went to a very very liberal school and like they were when i was friends with them in college they were still republican and now they're like what the fuck was i thinking so it's like that does give me hope it's just like i think that the loudest people in this whole movement are the ones that are like i don't know like those are the ones that are like on the news and like those are the ones that we see

so often so it's just kind of like those are the people that are like i don't know if we're ever going to be able to change anyone's mind when in reality it's like they're not all like that Yeah. And it's not our job to change their mind. It's the persuasion piece. Totally. It's like it's not anyone's job to do anything. So I guess I'm just kind of saying that I think like it would be the most effective way to help promote change is to like I'm not going to make space for people to challenge their views. but i am going to allow them to change their views yeah does that make sense like i'll plant the seeds i'll do the persuasion piece and when you change your mind cool yeah uh we we we don't need to talk about anything else yeah i feel like i explained that poorly no it's just like it's not worth it's not worth my energy to like try and argue with someone yeah i just don't fucking care no no especially because like i was watching i talked about this on a past episode of the podcast

but like the um surrounded series that uh jube i think it was jubilee did where they had like one republican versus 50 democrats and then they had 50 republicans no they had the other way around i don't remember what i said the first time um there was when they had the one democrat against all of the Republicans like they wouldn't let him wouldn't let the Democrat talk like he would he would be doing things like will you explain that to me and like they would just be like no you go ahead you explain it to me you explain it to me and he's like no I can't explain your thoughts to me and then she would be like exactly exactly and it's just like what are we even you know so it's like it's it's like you're saying like nobody has the energy to argue like

it's just arguing is not going to change anyone's minds like estelle ester perel ester perel ester perel said ester perel is so stingy i know that's her in an alternate universe uh it's it's like the more that you argue the more polarized people are going to get and i was watching that and was becoming like more liberal i like felt myself becoming more liberal i'm like i never want to be aligned with these people yeah and it's just not socialism it doesn't it doesn't change anyone's minds so i think i think that's good advice yeah it's it's not it's not like arguing it's just more like okay counter brainwashing yeah the persuasion like i legitimately like i'm trying to understand your thought process yeah and if you can explain it to me i can understand the breakdown of your

thought totally i mean i tried doing that with like watching like i'll put on fox news during like big political events to be like what are they saying you know and it's like i just want to understand what the other side is being fed and it's fucking ridiculous fox news is very good at preying on people's fear yeah um they specialize in it i was thinking about how it's kind of like fucking insane that my grandpa was around like during world war ii and he would always say like Hitler went to sell Hitler went to hell on roller skates and then now he's like a MAGA grandpa and I'm like you are the sweetest man alive and you've also like been so openly like accepting in your past and now you're in your lifetime you are not even aware that this person you idolize

is like literally the reincarnation of Hitler it's it's really like you're saying like they play up on fear and that generation is so driven by fear oh absolutely and they also are susceptible to infomercials which is crazy that is crazy I mean I am grateful to be a millennial because I feel like we kind of got a lot of different like media experiences so it is easier for us to recognize some bullshit yeah um it's easier for us to recognize things like bots like automated automated emails that are spam um ai did you see that woman that sent like eighty thousand dollars to someone that she thought was brad pitt in in a hospital oh my god the pictures that were photoshopped were fucking hilarious but that generation like it's wild how the fuck does

that generation even have eighty thousand dollars to give you know what i mean like at some point in some ways i'm kind of like like dead husbands maybe like i don't know because it's like yeah where did you get that money from it has to be like some sort of like if they have like a pension maybe but social security i don't know the pictures i want to find the pictures and show you hold on because you're gonna love this it's it's like the the photoshopped pictures that old people fall for is like the perfect representation of like why they're so easy to sway like y'all have been alive for so long like why are you so behind on all this it does make me a little bit afraid of like what are scams like that gonna look like when we're old it's gonna be bad because

we're gonna have ai against us or dead internet yeah like we said last week yeah um the cool the new cool thing is going outside I've never heard of that first of all oh my god why would Brad Pitt need eighty thousand dollars that's my first question why in the fuck yeah why in the fuck would Brad Pitt need eighty thousand dollars from one lady yeah and why do you know how much money Brad Pitt has right a lot and also like Brad Pitt would not be talking to like some random person a 53 year old in fucking she's 53 that's too young that's too young to fall for this yeah i want to know who she voted for she's french oh i mean the question still stands yeah so somebody some fuck ass for sure some fuck ass um some french fuck ass do you mind if i switch gears
