Starting point is 00:00:00 i drew a picture of like a girl in a corner like curled up oh my god oh no i think i put like an evanescence quote on it and my mom found it and i overheard like in the ski cabin that we were staying in it had like a lofted area with two twin beds and that's where my brother and i were staying and i heard them talking on the other side of the loft like in hushed tones about like how depressed i was this picture with bring me to life written on it yeah wake me up inside yeah that's probably what it was save me save me from the nothing I've become yeah probably that's probably what it was it's sunny in seattle today and i feel like acting up it's so amazing it's like 70 degrees right now
Starting point is 00:01:05 i feel like when the weather is nice we everyone should just get the day off i agree i told liz kind of half this story but i was walking polly today and uh there was like a big car accident everyone was fine thank god but there's like a blind turn by our house that is just like a t-bones dream you know it's like the perfect place to get t-boned and so we always avoid it and somebody had gotten t-boned by a school bus right there so there were a bunch of firefighters and i was having to cross the road right there and uh one of the firefighters was like she's not getting much exercise because she was in a stroller and i was like she's paralyzed and the other firefighters were like oh shit man that oh and he was like fuck um and i was like and she
Starting point is 00:01:51 got really excited because everybody was like making noise so i was like she's you have to say hi to her she's never gonna forgive me so they were all like bum rushing her and the one that asked or that said that she wasn't getting any exercise was like if i pet her belly is she gonna pee and i was like she can't pee by herself and they were like you gotta stop asking questions dude he's like oh no okay just tell her that i think she's kind and important and beautiful you can tell her firefighters have an aura that is just hot none of them i mean they were like good looking none of them were like majorly good looking and i was still like this is my this is a wet dream they just have attractive energy i think they i think it's the whole rescuing thing yeah i
Starting point is 00:02:30 think it's like like the combination of like typically they all know ems too yeah so i think like being able to like save people's lives yeah and being strong and not being cops so it's also really hot yeah i think if you're not a cop you just get some added points but there is like there is a vibe though with firefighters that gives like a little bit of republican like moderate voter you think so absolutely like the machismo kind of i think maybe it's different in seattle but anywhere else firefighters are also going to be republicans just so you know they also cheat on their wives like pretty frequently apparently i mean they're like away from home all the time yeah and they aren't wearing their wedding ring at work so i think they
Starting point is 00:03:20 could just like yeah because that could be a big they could get their finger degloved yeah don't look that up on google images miss mr liz said the same thing he's like do you know what degloving and i was like no because we were looking at ring stuff and uh he was like okay don't look it up it's the worst thing ever have you seen it no i don't want to know no don't don't look it up i think i'm i'm happy being innocent about this it happened to jimmy fallon he tripped um at his home and like grabbed onto something and it degloved his finger and so he was in a cast for a while and i was like an idiot and i was like what is that and it it penetrates my thoughts too often i have intrusive thoughts about painful things yeah like you learn about something that
Starting point is 00:04:04 you've never heard of before and you're like what the fuck yeah i didn't know that was a possibility like oh my god i know somebody who knows somebody this is like the perfect way to start out a thought um somebody that i know is somebody else somebody told me somebody had a boyfriend that looked like a girlfriend oh my god somebody told me the same thing that i had in february of last year oh my god i was just about to say we probably know the same person it's not confidential got potential um so stupid that was so that was so dumb i thought it was good i thought it was clever it was clever that song's a banger it was clever of you it was dumb of me um anyway what was i saying oh somebody gave when they were giving birth their bladder came out with
Starting point is 00:04:43 the baby what do you mean by that and that's why you have to look after your pelvic floor health the the horrors of pregnancy the horrors of being a woman i think that women should be paid to have children agreed just give every woman like half a million dollars i think that women should be paid just for because they're women like just because like they're pretty let's take it a step further i think that like everyone should just like make a livable wage that's like really profound of you thank you i'm not sure if it's ever going to happen unfortunately we can keep hoping wow you and your liberal mindsets this is the future liberals want and it's just like people no one's homeless yeah everyone has their basic needs taken care of billionaires don't exist
Starting point is 00:05:39 create interesting things and like yeah live peacefully because their basic needs are met when your basic needs are met you have a lot more time and freedom for like deep introspection and that's when like really amazing things happen yeah but they don't want us thinking that's the issue they want us to have our thoughts all tied up and how poor we all are well that's why nothing innovative is happening it's because they're like everyone's too busy doing their bullshit made up email jobs while we're getting like i'm saying this as someone who's an has an email job is there light on my face okay yeah there is it's chasing you where's it coming from i don't know well anyways heaven i feel a little ugly looking bye bye mr liz got second place in his his bjj tournament
Starting point is 00:06:34 oh fuck yeah mazel that's so exciting damn you're killing it that's really cool we'll have fun wrestling love you um i feel like i look kind of ugly you don't i feel like i look extra pale you look so beautiful your hair color is amazing y'all i got my hair done and it's just it's so it looks so good thank you it literally looks like pinterest hair i am so happy when you send me the original pictures like you know when it's all freshly styled and colored and whatever i was like this is what people so people have been posting obviously like hannah montana photos and stuff oh yeah i've seen people say like i wanted her hair so badly uh and it was just extensions you look like what they were trying to make her hair look like with extensions
Starting point is 00:07:24 so thank you so much oh my god like the miley cyrus yeah you look like if that is like the the highest compliment i wanted that hair too yeah that is the highest thank you so much your hair wishes her hair wishes it was your hair damn move aside miley thank you so much um my hair girl i went to high school with her and so we've been friends for a long time and i like showed her a few pictures and she was like okay i'm just gonna i'm just gonna drive you know and she fucking killed i had no idea when she turned me around you just know what you're doing i saw the bleach like because like kind of at the bottom like in my peripherals she didn't she didn't show me until she had like styled it and everything and i was
Starting point is 00:08:08 like oh my god it's too light oh my god i'm freaking out like what the fuck but she turned me around i'm like oh no it's perfect beautiful beautifully blended caramel highlight she does such a good job thank you so much and they're just as your hair grows out too it's gonna like look so natural yeah that's what i wanted i can't afford to keep up with this it was 500 bucks i mean it looks great it took a long time it looks like it was worth 500 bucks thank you so much your money's worth thank you i agree and you have so much hair i do have so much hair does that go into the cost yes she had to use so many bowls of color she was like for your hope let's hope that like she's like for your sake let's just hope that this is a the last bowl
Starting point is 00:08:45 because this is starting to rack up she didn't even like trim it or anything too took five hours oh my god yeah because she had to color it and then she had to bleach it she had to color it dry it bleach it tone it and then i was done which all takes a long time and no trim no trim wow i know wow because at the end of that we were both like i gotta go home and sleep yeah it was a lot but i'm so happy with how it turned out you're summer ready i'm summer ready you're in your summer dress oh i'm wearing a dress today i love an athletic dress me too i just got it at nordstrom rack it looks really cute thanks it's a great color zella zella that sounds right yeah okay sick anyway how are you doing i'm doing all right the sun's out i can't complain yeah liz was out
Starting point is 00:09:31 on her balcony looking like a robot today it was so funny yeah i had my uh red light therapy mask on with sunglasses over it and a bucket hat yeah and a hat she looked like like a like an early model of a robot you know what i mean how they like before they tried making them look like people uh-huh that's exactly what you look like mr liz and he said hello human i did look like a little alien it was great though i felt great self-care maxing as you said i was self-care maxing i'm always self-care you know what i watched a probably youtube short because that's like all i look at now because i don't have tiktok anymore and i have time limits on all my apps um this like little 23 year old girl she's like I'm 23 years old I've decided it's time
Starting point is 00:10:19 to get my life together and I was like oh what okay and then she was like one of the things I wanted to do is like mess around like with different hairstyles to figure out like what are some quick go-to hairstyles I can do for work and I was like that is so fucking smart and I'm constantly thinking about that yeah she has this whole little series where she's just like you know getting areas of her life like getting her shit together and i'm like that is so beautiful so inspirational it felt really inspirational she's like i'm trying to become my best self so i'm like by going to the gym and blah blah blah i'm like this is beautiful i yeah i mean she's still so young i know i know i'm like damn girl if i was getting my shit together at 23
Starting point is 00:11:01 yeah my life would probably look pretty different you know i do feel like there's a different i we had the internet was still such a was such a fucking thing when we were 23 already in a different way but in a different way buzzfeed still existed yeah it feels like now it's people are so much more like they're documenting like getting their life like getting their shit together i feel like the thing was when we were 23 was like everyone's a mess we're all just like bleeding in yeah well yeah we're like post-recession graduates yeah at least we had more of a buffer between like when the recession happened in 2008 until after we graduated that's true i was i felt i feel like so many different like major moments in my life i'm
Starting point is 00:11:48 like thank god that happened when it did yeah otherwise like i don't i don't know i feel terrible for like recent grads oh my god me too hard for them to get jobs they like have had to do like school they had to figure out school during covid i can't imagine that i can't imagine like having to do my first year of college online yeah like they got robbed of i mean like hopefully they're able to they were able to make up for it you know but like fuck well it's been like harder and harder for like college kids to get jobs in the industry they studied especially a job like right out of college whereas I felt like for us it was like still pretty you know yeah good your first job's not gonna be the best job right which I delusionally was like my first job is
Starting point is 00:12:34 gonna be the job yeah yeah because I mean it's so exciting to think about it yeah my jobs up until this point have been like working in retail and like being a waitress right yeah by the time I was done being an intern that was when I started to be like okay this next job is going to be the best job and that was when i started working there forever the company that we met at and it was the best fucking experience of like college part two it really did that's so nice um we were gonna talk about girlhood part two today i'm trying to remember where we left off with girlhood part one we talked about so long ago first thong right yep bras did we talk about bras yes um periods do we talk about periods we did talk about periods we really talked about like everything
Starting point is 00:13:18 because girlhood is like literally i don't know up until like girlhood is like a lifelong experience yeah in my opinion we we were gonna have um mr liz and frank do a boyhood episode i think that would be fun it would be so much fun because it does feel like that is kind of an untapped territory girlhood i think we like we were so lucky that girlhood was a thing it doesn't feel like boyhood is as much of a thing or it it's not as much of a thing now you know i actually think the opposite i think boyhood exists more now than girlhood i don't think you think so i think that like girlhood right now is like being replaced with like like there's no like shows for pre-teen girls there's no media for like that like between age it's called that because you're in between
Starting point is 00:14:09 you're in between childhood and teenager oh i thought it was like cute on like tween like you're not a teen yet you're a pre-tween you're a weenie teen damn teeny weenie well i mean like i i just feel like what i'm thinking about boyhood now i think it's because we're like coming off of the conversation about like the atmosphere like they still have video games yeah sure they're i think they're targeted more with like predatory things but like girlhood is also now like why the fuck are like 10 year olds looking for retinol products yeah you know yeah that's what I was about to say it's like just like even more like beauty standard oppression yeah I'm not a girl though so I don't really know I mean it's sad because I'm sure that people that
Starting point is 00:14:54 like the I'm thinking about my my cousins and like they're when they were like 13 14 they were like making tiktoks you know and like doing like tiktok dances and stuff and I think about it it's like oh well I was on my space so it's kind of not too different no we were online yeah it was still very online so I'm like trying to think about that in terms of like okay what are they being robbed of I do still feel like they're having a lot of similar experiences that we had I think they're just being robbed of like media that's made for them yeah I think yeah they're being robbed of media that's made for them I think that I don't know this makes me feel like I'm so old but feeling like there's too much like accessibility to porn like i don't know you
Starting point is 00:15:44 could be eight years old looking at porn that's not good for you no it's not good for your brain no and i think it sets a weird standard yeah for how people expect relationships to be well it's also like all of these fucking idiots that have a platform now are like also rotting these kids brains early on like that's not healthy that they're like you know having to think of women a certain way it's gonna be interesting to see how these kids end up when they get older because i'm thinking about like even like when we were teenagers like 4chan still existed yeah like i knew boys who were still on 4chan and like they're kind of like the weird kids though like it feels like it's so widespread now but you like i feel like people grow out of like these stupid ideas
Starting point is 00:16:28 that they had when they were yeah teenagers yeah so hopefully that's what makes me like you know everyone wants to panic about like the young generation like oh they don't have the same type of childhood that we did yeah like we're fine we've made it this far yeah that's true i think there there are things that are obviously different which is like the internet is so much more advanced but you also have like access to more information than ever yeah i mean i think about it too like what do i probably end up being smarter than us because they have so much access to information during the time where their brains are the most developmental yeah i don't know we'll see that's why they all have anxiety allegedly according to the media i mean is notoriously
Starting point is 00:17:15 trustworthy amen i mean i was thinking about like the products that we loved when we were girls i was just about to say lip smackers that's the one that flipped up yeah do you remember that yes the ones that tasted like dr pepper and like coke i loved the dr pepper one i loved the my little slidey vanilla lip smackers uh-huh i love my little m&m phone did you have like a house phone that was like themed in your room um no but i had like a cool purple one it was like kind of see-through i had that one too did you have your own line no i didn't either some of my friends had their own phone line oh my god call them on their little that's crazy separate phone line yeah no i had the same one that our like wi-fi was did you ever do a three-way call or the the
Starting point is 00:18:04 dialect yo yeah the one of the person one of the people doesn't know yeah that they're being three-way called I love that they can't get away with that now because no iPhones like I also think I think I did that maybe twice but it was I don't remember like actually really wanting to do it I don't remember hearing anything that I was like wow that's so mean or terrible um and like how they do it in mean girls like they were in high school like I was in elementary school yeah we weren't doing this for real it was just like yeah she was like mean to me on the playground yeah or something yeah oh my god hearing the home phone ring and then having like your mom be like it's for you yeah best feeling that was like that's it's that's such a fun thing that
Starting point is 00:18:54 i've like we've lost you know what i mean we don't have that kind of shit anymore we're like talking on the phone everyone's accessible all the time so like and then at some point your parents are like you have to get off the phone uh-huh clear the line yeah what if someone's trying to call us yes what if somebody's trying to call i need to connect to the internet trying to call me yeah hello we have this uh answering machine it was so cute like um it had caller id but you could like record the name of the people who were calling so then my brother and i and like my parents like different i just remember how some of them sounded when they would call like it would be like you guys saying like yeah grandma yeah exactly that's so fun
Starting point is 00:19:32 i remember specifically my dad saying my grandparents my mom's parents it was jim and jan cute that's how we delivered it that's so cute did you ever have a ring back tone i did holy shit i forgot about that uh-huh what was it do you remember i don't remember i love how when you would stop paying for it it would just like default to like classical music and that's how you knew people were fucking poor what about what whatever happened to like a regular ring yeah i know right that's so funny see this is like this is what preteens are missing like and this is oh god the sanitize the sanitization of creativity yeah in the world of like tech and ai is so boring yeah like why aren't we doing shit like having a ring back tone i know hello
Starting point is 00:20:23 you guys don't know what a ringback tone is let us tell you it's when you would call like your friend or whatever on their cell phone and a song that you chose would play while your phone was ringing like so the caller would hear the song it's like hold music it's so good my best friends was you in your hand tonight by pink it's just you in your hand that's hilarious so good weren't ringback tones more expensive than ringtones yeah they were like a dollar 99 i think a month a month Yeah you had to pay for it per month. And that's nothing now. I know. Amazing. I think that's why I didn't have one. Maybe I bought it once and I didn't know. And then it defaulted to the classical music. My parents are like what's this charge? Yeah. I remember when they first like they didn't
Starting point is 00:21:07 know that we had texting or like how many texts we could send. Oh remember when you had limited texting? Oh yeah I was about to say. You could only send a certain number of texts a month. Or you only had like if you like accidentally opened up the internet on your flip phone like it was like the panic of that because it's gonna charge your parents yeah yeah funny and you're like i remember the first time there was texting like and i had text i think i was in like sixth grade and i texted one of my friends and then my parents are like what is this and then they like blocked texting from being available yeah damn what is this and then up until like we were teenagers we're like please can we have texting please i remember i didn't have texting until like my
Starting point is 00:21:48 junior or senior year wow yeah wow that's late well we I know that we started to have texting like you could only send a certain number per month and then my brother and I just started constantly going over it was like almost not like a competition on purpose but like one of one of us would always go over on like our text limit until finally my parents are like fine we'll do unlimited texting it's more it's more economically sound to do unlimited texting it's like unlimited data i was always that we were on a family plan for data and i would always be the one to put us over like two months two days into the month we we had like limited data until i was in seattle at some point yeah it took a long time for us to switch like what the fuck
Starting point is 00:22:38 yeah now that's unimaginable i know i don't know it's crazy i do pay my parents for my phone bill me too but isn't it kind of insane that we're like still on our parents phone bills it's the only thing that i'm still like financially tied to my parents on which is crazy yeah i think same actually yeah yeah probably because it makes more sense it's more like financially smart to be to have a family plan on phones yeah so it's like good for everyone i remember threatening to leave and they were like no our family plan will get more expensive yeah do you have verizon yeah i of AT&T uh when I was in high school I made a presentation for us to switch to AT&T because I wanted a specific phone which one do you remember no I really wanted to switch to T-Mobile because
Starting point is 00:23:22 they had the sidekick yes the sidekick was so cool this girl that I was friends with in middle school in high school who I thought was so cool she had a sidekick and it was like she was always so like sassy about how she would like open it there were people with sidekicks were so cool yeah but t-mobile coverage didn't get better until like more recently now it's like the best you get free wi-fi on alaska airlines yeah we have t-mobile horizon doesn't give you shit yeah at&t doesn't really give you shit either i just had i just bought a new phone and the process i bought is at&t with delta i don't think so delta delta has a partnership with one of the phone plans it's probably t-mobile god damn it they have it they've they've monopolized the market they've
Starting point is 00:24:06 monopolized doing deals yeah you have a full monopoly on deals and brand partnerships it's just i don't know like there are certain parts of seattle that i just are just complete dead zones but have a bunch of buildings and a bunch of people yeah the grocery store near me has yes zero service inside the bars near you i have no service yeah i'm like okay what if the shooting happens in this grocery store right i have no way to call for and it kind of feels like there's always going to be a shooting in that grocery store it kind of does i don't like the vibe in this place i think fred meyer is a little more sketchy though i feel that way about safeway the fred meyer do you know which fred meyer i'm talking about yeah okay that one is just like
Starting point is 00:24:46 it's like going to another planet yeah i feel like i'm not even in my neighborhood anymore i know i'm like what it's also it's too big it's lawless yeah it absolutely is anyway i just sent you this video of um this uh improv like youtube channel that i follow that's so fucking funny it's called make some noise if you haven't watched them before you absolutely have to but the prompt that i just watched i sent it to you and i said uh-oh when you were just getting ready just now but it was the pod the pre-podcast chatter before the podcast starts podcast and it's just it was just basically our podcast fuck it's like testing testing we don't have any dedicated topics usually no we're just here to yap we're speaking japanese we're just chit-chatting yeah um anyway girlhood beep
Starting point is 00:25:35 beep what i don't know get in we're going to girlhood oh okay i'm getting in uh i'm trying to think of like okay where are we at in the timeline of of now it's just like nostalgia nostalgia yeah nostalgia chatter i mean i was thinking about that feels good i was thinking about boyhood specifically because of my brother because he was experiencing boyhood at the same time that i was experiencing girl he's seven years older but he was in high school when i was in yeah elementary school and like boyhood yeah and i was thinking about like all the shit that he loved and like it was like teenage mutant ninja turtles and he like loved the goosebumps books and like he was playing like shadowbane on his computer and like he would do this thing at school
Starting point is 00:26:24 called gusto warriors that was when he started getting strong because my brother's he's like ripped but he wasn't like he was like a really shrimpy like stringy kid what is gusto warriors it's you just work out it's like an after-school like workout program called gusto warriors the maybe this was just where you might have just been the high school yeah i've never heard of that but like that was such a huge part of like his like confidence growing up that's so fucking hilarious that like i'm sure teachers or whatever adults they were like we need to get these boys outside yeah like they're driving me insane yeah their hormones are so obnoxious get these boys outside he loved it i would always see the because my school was around the corner from his and they
Starting point is 00:27:07 would always just be like a bunch of like high school boys just like um like jumping rope on the front lawn see this is positive masculinity yes and you know he's a great dude so and we can thank start me up you can thank gusto warriors at upper dublin high school in ambler bring back the gusto warriors program yeah let's make it worldwide i wonder if it still exists my my mom has always said this is in a similar vein she's like it's so smart that the mormons send their boys on a mission when they're like at peak dumbass age absolutely and i was like that's actually so true i think they send them away at like from like 20 to 22 and then they come back and they've been living wherever yeah is it called a mission because they're on a mission to spread
Starting point is 00:27:52 the word of god yes i i'm an idiot and i just pieced this together like two days ago and so they don't know where they're gonna go on a mission yeah yeah and uh they go to like some school like some special classes where they teach you languages really quickly jesus so you can go to wherever you're connor story just learning russian in like yeah the fuck yeah uh and then they would live there with their mission partner for however long i remember some people would be so like i i don't know i feel like they probably on purpose sent like rich kids to europe and it was only boys yeah only boys and it was like rare for a girl to go on a mission yeah i was trying she did it was like because no one married her when she turned 20 that's crazy i know it's crazy
Starting point is 00:28:50 i know this yeah yeah because you grew up around so many mormons such a like well and i was dating a like i guess former mormon he still went to byu our freshman year though he went to byu our freshman year and then um transferred because he didn't want to go on a mission and he was like basically pretending to be mormon which also that's crazy that you went to byu yeah if you were just pretending absolutely you didn't have to leave is anybody you don't have to go on a mission and you don't have to be mormon to go to byu is anybody at byu not a mormon i think so pretty sure the football team probably you know you get like a full ride to byu to play football like you don't need to be mormon maybe i don't know i don't fucking know anyway yeah but anyways
Starting point is 00:29:38 like yeah you're still friends with those people who went on their mission and stuff so yeah get updates um middle school what was that like for you oh i was bullied heavily in middle school i wasn't bullied in the way of like getting pushed in the lockers you know like in movies but like i was like made fun of for like how i dressed and like what i would do online and like there was a really cool girl her name was sydney and she was so fucking mean to me she was so she made my life hell in middle school and i wanted nothing more than to be exactly like her okay not like i didn't have like a bunch of close friends but i don't know to me it's crazy to like bully someone because you just like think they're weird or you like yeah or annoying i mean as i grew up like now i
Starting point is 00:30:28 have so much context on like why she was the way that she was and like i have a like obviously empathy for her but wait you weren't friends with her right no okay no i think i'm thinking of the girl who like you were friends with but she was like always mean to you that was the one with the sidekick phone oh of course that was um when i moved to seattle but uh yeah no this girl sidekick ass bitch bitch uh but yeah no there was like school bully the popular girls were all like so cool to me you know like i wanted nothing more than to be popular which is they were like nice to you no they were so mean to me oh this was like sydney and like all of her friends you said they were cool to you so i no no like i assumed they were like cool like chill no they were like
Starting point is 00:31:13 i was amazed you thought they were so cool popularity felt like such a thing yes like it was so important like oh my god the most popular girl in school and I don't know if that was maybe that was part of the media we were consuming is like the most popular girl in school the most popular boy in school but it was like it really mattered back then like it did I wonder if social circles like that still feel like they really matter I feel like at least my hope is that like I'm seeing so much so many videos online of people like being so nice to like the kids in school that are like different than them and i'm like i mean that's kind of like the joke of 21 jump street is like have you seen you've seen i have it's been so long when they like go undercover
Starting point is 00:31:56 in this high school and channing tatum is used to it being like he's the cool guy because he's like the hot jock yeah and like no one's like that anymore like yeah yeah uh dave franco's like being nice to like some kid and Channing Tatum's being a bully like you remember no I don't I really don't remember anything Jonah Hill becomes the cool one that because and that's how it is because he was like the nerd and that's and then social socialization changed that's really funny yeah the the popular kids in my middle school were like like stunningly beautiful and like so so mean and like all wore like did you ever wear solo pants no what are those they're like yoga pants that have like a big like color flap around the waist that you like would flip over
Starting point is 00:32:47 and it would say solo on the back oh maybe I do okay yes these were I they never looked good on my body because I got hips like way before anyone else now they probably would look great are they like yoga pants wait yeah okay yeah yeah I looked for them recently because I was like are these still a thing i think that they still make just they're like sophie shorts now okay remember sophie yeah of course they're they're like kind of like in they're just kind of like that now but they were so fucking cool and they would have like tie-dye ones and their hugs and their uggs they called me and my friends the the lax l-a-c-k-s like they're lacking something the lax isn't that crazy that's some real mean girl shit i know and then i moved and i got
Starting point is 00:33:29 bullied for my myspace was your school kind of small no oh yeah it was a pretty big school ours was our schools were really big like um i don't know if this is still the case in las vegas but in vegas like there's like a new school opening every year wow and they pay teachers to move out there they like constantly need teachers it's a rapidly developing school district so there were like a fuck ton of people in my middle school and high school to the point where like i don't know i was going through the yearbook and i was like i don't know half of these fucking kids did your parents teach at the high school that or at the school that you were at no that would have been a nightmare my so i mean in middle school my mom she took me to the middle school she taught at
Starting point is 00:34:12 and i was miserable she took me away from all my friends yeah and then like brought me to this school where we don't live near any of the kids and i think they thought it would be a good idea because she could like keep an eye on you there yeah i don't know and it's not like i was a bad kid right um and they transferred me to the school we lived down the street from where all my friends went to school like the next semester good and i remember overhearing my parents talk about how depressed i was yeah hello and i was like well yeah i was like i remember what we were doing too we went on a ski trip this is like my first time skiing i think and um i had like i got really into listening to evanescence fuck yeah i loved evanescence and i like drew a picture i was like
Starting point is 00:35:02 i drew all the time like now i feel like i don't know i lost the skill i can only really draw flowers but um i drew a picture of like a girl in a corner like curled up oh my god oh no i think i put like an evanescence quote on it and my mom found it and i overheard like in the ski cabin that we were staying in it had like a lofted area with two twin beds and that's where my brother and i were staying and i heard them talking on the other side of the loft like in hushed tones about like how depressed i was this picture with bring me to life written on it yeah wake me up inside yeah that's probably what it was save me save me from the nothing i've become yeah probably that's probably what it was honestly i would not be surprised if that's what it was that's so then
Starting point is 00:35:51 they transferred me to my other my school and I I was like bitch I'm behind on the socialization now yeah there's established groups of friends where am I supposed to fit in yeah you can't do that and then I feel like I became like cool in seventh grade when you were saying that you thought these girls were like so beautiful I'm like if we actually looked back would they like look good I think a few of them would I do look back and I'm like yeah some people are just you're like wow you're like beautiful you just are a beautiful child yeah beautiful child you're gonna be a beautiful adult yeah yeah you just know that you can see it in their face and some people they're only like cool by proximity yeah or like there's something about them that doesn't
Starting point is 00:36:37 there's like one main person who is like popular because they are beautiful yeah and maybe they're nice too yeah they have no you have no idea and then that people who flock to them are like self-serving sometimes absolutely there you know what's interesting is like the my in my high school like the popular girls were all like fine whatever they weren't like mean like I stopped getting bullied in high school this was just like a middle school thing but that's so middle school yeah that's like peak bully age it really is but one of them in high school is weird there was one of the girls that were like popular that um she would she ended up like hanging out with one of us and then just like coming into our group instead because all of
Starting point is 00:37:27 the popular girls hated each other like they were all like talking shit or like behind each other there were some popular girls like that yeah i'm like damn so mean and yeah and then at our high school reunion they were all fucking fighting like i walked into a room at the at one of the after parties and they were there were two of them having like a full-on fucking argument in the bedroom and i was like that nothing's changed like have you guys stayed friends or are you like hashing rehashing old shit i think that they've stayed friends but they still don't like each other i don't know that is very interesting yeah so i don't have a single friend i don't like me neither i like all my friends i mean that's also part of being older you get you you drop
Starting point is 00:38:08 the people that aren't good for you as you get older i don't i'm like did i ever really i think I really remember having friends I like didn't like I just remember like wanting to I wanted like the closeness and friendships that you have in adulthood you know like there's just like like I've talked to Mr. Liz about this you and I have talked about this like friendships with other women are so amazing yeah and fulfilling and it's crazy to me when they're it also makes me sad when there's women who don't have other friends that are women yeah they don't have they've never experienced that close connection but some people are just living like that which is crazy yeah I can't imagine me neither me neither because I really do like I feel like so much of who I am
Starting point is 00:38:55 is because of like the women that I surround myself with so like it really my friendships with women formed me I like I can't I don't know I can't imagine my life just like without these types of friendships no I was talking to a friend of mine recently who has a young daughter who's I think she's eight and she is experiencing anxiety in the same way that I experienced anxiety with my vomit phobia growing up where like she doesn't want to do anything everything scares her because she had like she broke her arm and so now like the potential of getting hurt stop it she's frozen and everything that's like so relatable yeah it totally and I was talking to my friend about it and I was like I'm really hoping that she's coming up in an age now where
Starting point is 00:39:46 like because her parents were both like people that grew up with therapy being normal that she'll feel comfortable doing that as she gets older because I think it was tough I mean it was easier for me because like my parents were both very like plugged into mental health but a lot of my friends parents wouldn't even dream about doing therapy so they didn't do therapy until they were never they'd be like why would you need that yeah right because it wasn't normal like and so I don't I don't know I'm just like I'm I'm noticing things that I was experiencing at the same age but it being handled differently at least in this this situation yeah where I'm like okay that's like giving me hope that this is like gonna be more normalized and it won't be such a big scary thing
Starting point is 00:40:35 that she's because when I was experiencing anxiety I didn't know that that's what it was I was just like everything's scary the world is dangerous what was girlhood like for you in college because you had a boyfriend like the whole time yeah I mean I think a lot about my freshman year and like i posted literally every macbook photo that we ever took yeah like on my facebook yeah so i like look back on those pictures often and like there's a lot of videos in there of us like singing to beyonce like getting ready for parties and i'm just like like that was the fucking best and like and those macbook filters yes and like smoking out of our like dorm room window with like a toilet paper roll with um oh a dryer dryer sheets in them like i just my freshman year i
Starting point is 00:41:22 lived in the dorms that they looked like a ski lodge it was called the ridge and everybody was really close it was like the party part of campus and everybody was just like you would go outside and you would just see like 10 people that you knew like immediately and it was the fucking best and i don't know like my suite of girls were the same girls that i lived with all four years of college and like it was just it was just the best we had a house that we would have like um like weekly dinners together in that's so cute yeah and like i had like my group of guy friends that all lived in the same house and they called our group cat city because rack city was such a popular song at the time and so cat city's cool yeah mr liz was telling me so one of my college
Starting point is 00:42:07 girlfriends was actually in town this weekend oh fun and um i met up with her and mr liz was with me and we were like I can't we were reminiscing on something I was like we were just talking about how you know we can't handle being hungover yeah and um I was like I can't imagine I can't believe we used to like we've seen like some of the worst of each other yeah because of college and then she started like retelling some of the stuff to Mr. Liz and he was like there was a sorority house on my campus that was called the Vajma Hall and I was like did you guys all call it that or did they also call it that he's like they also called it that that's crazy so when they'd have parties you'd be like come to the Vajma Hall that's amazing it is hilarious that's Vajma Hall fuck
Starting point is 00:42:52 I wish I thought of that Cat City's cool Cat City was great and it was like you know I think at first when they started calling us Cat City was kind of like like making fun of us yeah but then like as it went on it just kind of became our name we had this big party before my the roommate whose parents owned our house when studied in uh london for six months and so we threw like a big going away party for her in the backyard and like made a slip and slide out of a tarp and got real cut up all of us still have scars from that like it was like that was the most fun i think i've ever had was that night and like there's just like moments that I like have like flashbulb memories from college where I was like okay I was still experiencing like those female friendships
Starting point is 00:43:37 that I like associate with girlhood still then I don't really talk to any of those girls now it just sucks yeah and you were in a sorority so you like really got like like what was girlhood like for you oh my god it fucking rocked um freshman year like kind of sucked I think I was still kind of trying to like you're figuring out how to navigate like different types of friendships now in college. Yeah. You don't have your own space like you did at your house presumably. You like are you're like in charge of yourself and you have to live with someone that you probably don't know very well for the first time in your life you know. And it's not surprising that that doesn't always go well especially with girls. Yeah. Like I did not get
Starting point is 00:44:22 along with my first roommate and um oh my god there was someone else with the same exact name as me who lived across the hall oh my god i was like you guys can put us on a different floor um maybe they thought it was funny so that's crazy from each other and that liz ball threatened to kill her roommate and we like she like came into my room shaking because we were friends and she was like i like asked her to stop eating my cereal and she like flipped out on me and um like threatened to kill me and then i we i like went to the i was like oh no we're gonna go tell the ra and i was like banging on the ra's door and she wasn't opening and we went to the front desk and they were like um we're gonna escort her out of the building i guess so they like
Starting point is 00:45:11 made her stay somewhere else and they made her move oh my god and then i moved in with the other girl so she lived with two liz balls that's so funny and yeah then uh our other friend was being bullied by her roommate so she would come and stay with us we were moved to a different floor and she would come down to our floor to stay with us we were all living in the same building and people thought they they were like that's so fucked up that they have like three people in their room that they should like they don't have enough beds there's not enough room and we're like no she just likes to stay with us we got her an air mattress that's so fun it was really fun and then that roommate like kind of turned into a bitch because she had this like hyper focus on
Starting point is 00:45:53 like popularity and being cool which in college exactly in college and then we just kind of drifted apart and one of my friends who lived in that building she ended up living in a solo room like you know people like drop out they move to different buildings they move in with the sorority whatever so she had her own room so i would just stay with her and we pushed both of the twin beds together so it was a big queen uh king size bed oh my god and we'd sleep in this big like california king size bed together uh she was really funny that's so fun and some of these people i'm not in contact with anymore yeah like so you do get really close kind of because you have to yeah um but that roommate that second roommate that i had who like turned into like
Starting point is 00:46:40 kind of a bitch um I stopped being friends with her and I guess she like dyed her hair black and she like tried to blame everybody for her dying her hair black because it looked bad that's so fucking funny one time though I was she was like I really want to lighten my hair and I was like oh we can like all highlight your hair and I had done this with my mom where you have you ever done the cap yeah yeah so we did the highlight cap and I like pulled it I was like how blonde do you want it because it's if you guys don't know what I'm talking about you you can probably still buy it oh yeah I see people still doing yeah yeah I mean it's it works pretty well yeah if you're like on a budget and you want some good highlights yeah it's like this cap and it you poke the holes in
Starting point is 00:47:22 this cap and it shows you where to poke them and then you like use this little hook to pull strands of hair out and then you color that part and it's like on the cap so it doesn't like bleed into your other hair and you let it sit whatever and then you pull it and wash it out yeah so i was like i can do that for you and um while we were doing it because it looks crazy we were doing every single one because she wanted her hair really light and you kind of look like a barbie doll that's missing hair you know oh yeah and the fire alarm went off and we look at each other and we're like she's like i was because it already took us so long to get all these pieces of hair out and we thought fast and we're like we need a hat and we put a beanie that's so smart that's so that
Starting point is 00:48:09 is the worst possible timing i know thank god we hadn't put on any color yet yeah seriously but that's so funny uh that's amazing she's doing um and yeah so then my sophomore year through my senior year that's when i like got really really close with the girls in my sorority because like some people shit on greek life because they're like you paid for your friends blah blah blah but i think it can be really helpful because yeah sure you pay for the sorority but you also end up with kind of this like built-in group of friends yeah and i think that the way that like recruitment works like it really it really is a two-way street like you if you don't like vibe with a sorority you can drop them so you don't have to see them again um but you kind
Starting point is 00:48:56 of like end up with similar people yeah you have more in common with so i think it's an easy way to like meet people that you already have things in common with and like get along with and i think no matter what sorority i would have ended up in i probably would have had a similar experience in terms of like making close friendships yeah so i'm glad but i'm glad i ended up in the one I did end up in good yeah I want to I want to go back to college sometimes like I think about it I think it's honestly I get extra nostalgic on days like today when it's nice out it's beautiful yeah because like Bellingham was like just like this was how it was for like three months out of the year solid damn you know and those were like the best memories like jumping off of the dock
Starting point is 00:49:40 like jumping off the waterfall you know and I think back on that the equivalent for us was creek the creek oh it was like in sedona or on the way to sedona i want to go to um sometimes like so many college students would show up to the creek that they would shut it down because um people would be starting to get e coli oh no uh and there was always like a lot of trash after the college kids were there which is sad beer bottles beer cans i did love college a lot and i think there's some the thing that is so amazing about college is being in a walkable community yes surrounded by your friends and having like your basic needs taken care of like food i wish we would all just like hang out like we did in college yeah me too doesn't that sound fun just
Starting point is 00:50:30 to like be within walking distance of all of your friends everyone i was friends with lived in this fucking building yeah that'd be so nice like dorms and then you know when we want the boys to go away they can like hang out and watch tv or something we should really whatever it is that they do we should establish a commune yeah let's establish a commune the downstairs area can be where mr liz forces everyone to do jujitsu with him great um and then the top is for arts and crafts arts and crafts podcasting and chit-chatting i honestly having deep deep intense thought uh conversations where we just all tell each other how much we love each other have a shroom room yeah shroom room i like that just make it really like galactic and comfy
Starting point is 00:51:19 the shroom room god all right we're doing it being a woman oh how i love being a woman being a woman well i'm gonna go rescue my dog she needs it she's alone right now and it is the source of all my stress i'm gonna go smoke weed on the balcony oh fuck yeah it's the perfect day to do that do you want to sing yeah sing to me sing for me palo we love you that was actually kind of pretty i was like oh she's going very holy oh yeah i was feeling very catholic the power of god i felt it too yeah
