also released a picture where she's on all fours and she's in this like sexy little black dress and um there's like the side of a man and he's holding her hair the way like you would hold a dog leash and the discourse about this photo is all over the place i'm fucking sick of people I I could not stop thinking about it all weekend um so I mean I'll make my stance pretty clear a lot of people think that it's like anti-feminist and it's setting women back and like I think that's kind of fucking bullshit I I saw the perfect description of Sabrina Carpenter and her sexuality and I sent it to Amelia and it's like I feel like like her sexuality is kind of like Betty Boop like she's sexy but in like a funny way yeah and in like a self-aware

people are making have you been seeing that there's like a picture that she took that's like her laying in the grass and it looks like like a picture from Lolita and she it's like they're both laying in the grass I guess yeah you know that's obscene and like I hate when hyper feminine like a hyper feminine um aesthetic is conflated with like a child aesthetic because if a child is dressed like that then that child is dressed in a sexual way and that's inappropriate yes you are sexualizing that child yep uh an adult woman wearing a hyper feminine outfit that is sexual is not trying to make you think that she is childlike right and that's kind of annoying um i also think that this is kind of a reflection of just like how far right things have swung in

like public perception and i also have seen a lot of conversations in general just about how like gen z is not having sex but then you have all of these like porn addicted boys yeah it's really interesting and kind of scary I also don't think I'm the most qualified person to like dissect all of that and why that is because I don't really know that many Gen Z people intimately like I don't I'm not friends with them I can't really ask them I'm sure there's a study somewhere another thing that I think is so annoying about all of this is like it's it's not new like this this kind of imagery isn't new Prince did it for so long uh like Fiona Apple you know madonna janet jackson like all had very like hyper sexualized album covers it's it's just

it's like what's happening with this generation that everybody is so yeah they're like losing on me you need you she's pandering to the male gaze but interestingly enough like i don't think men really like sabrina no i've been shocked by that me too well so frank and mr liz were talking about the sad Amelia's birthday someone asked do you think Sabrina Carpenter is hot and both of them were like no they think and then I was like Annie Valley yeah they're like she see there's something about her like they were like yeah she's an attractive beautiful woman but like they don't think that they're she's hot they're not attracted to her yeah um I think that is an important distinction to like knowing someone's attractive versus being attracted to them yeah and then I

was like really like she's beautiful yeah but i i mean i could see why she wouldn't be like mr liz's type necessarily and um yeah their explanation was just like yeah she's like uncanny valley like how she's attractive yeah and i guess i understand like she does have kind of this big like this big hair yeah and then she's really thick eyelashes yeah and then the super intense blush so it has been interesting watching you know like people on the more conservative side of the political spectrum having the same opinion as people who claim to be feminists and i'll get into this more but like we're not used to and i have to think of how to explain this like just five years ago we were all singing and dancing to wop and laughing at ben shapiro having a

fucking meltdown yeah and now a woman who has by and large always like shouted her sexuality from the rooftops is being criticized for having any sort of sexual identity in the first place yeah for a lot of reasons and um being criticized for any having any sexual identity in the first place because kids listen to her music or like kids look up to her and why is it her job to be a parent to your kids that doesn't make any fucking sense to me it's like someone saying to me an adult woman you can't wear shorts because grade schools have dress codes and kids you might you've never met might look up to you yeah i'm not in grade school yeah and why do why do you think kids are so fucking dumb that they'll just copy whatever a stranger is doing yeah and also like are you

really going to just like suppress what your kids are seeing for like all like do they have access to the internet ever they've probably seen far worse well and like our age or we were listening to britney spears as a kid and what i learned from listening to britney spears wasn't oh i'm gonna wear like little shorts and little shirts because that's what boys like no what i learned was uh the public will do anything to harass this woman yeah essentially to the point where her bodily autonomy and her rights are stripped away so if you don't like that an adult woman is practicing autonomy over her own body during a time in history where women's rights are being stripped away and their bodies are being policed to the point where they're bleeding out in parking

lots and being kept alive as a fucking human incubator then go blind wash your eyes with acid blow out your eardrums i actually think what she's doing is brave yeah and something else that i was reading referenced like everyone who was criticizing Lana Del Rey when she wrote this owes her her an apology and did you read what it like I think it was in like 2020 what Lana Del Rey wrote she almost had a point she almost had a point she wrote question for society or something like that yeah and she essentially I want to read it um Lana Del Rey's question for society or question for the culture she almost has a point with this but a lot of it is racist so i'm gonna say that now that doja cat ariana camilla cardi b kalani and nikki minaj and beyonce have had

number ones with songs about being sexy wearing no clothes fucking cheating etc can i please go back to singing about being embodied feeling beautiful by being in love even if the relationship is not perfect or dancing for money or whatever I want without being crucified or saying that I'm glamorizing abuse I'm fed up with female writers and alt singers saying that I glamorize abuse when when in reality I'm just a glamorous person singing about the realities of where we are of what we are all now seeing are very prevalent emotionally abusive relationships all over the world with all of the topics women are finally allowed to explore I just want to say over the last 10 years I think it's pathetic that my majority or I think it's pathetic that my minor

lyrical exploration detailing my sometimes submissive or passive roles in my relationships has often made people say that I've set women back hundreds of years let the let this be clear I'm not not a feminist but there has there has to be a place in feminism for women who look and act like me the kind of women who said the kind of woman who says no but men hear yes the kind of woman who are slated mercilessly for being their authentic delicate selves the kind of women who get their own stories and voices taken away from them by stronger women or by men who hate women I've been honest and optimistic about the challenging relationships I've had newsflash that's just how it is for many women and that was my and that was sadly my experience up until the

point that those records were made so I just want to say it's been a long 10 years of bullshit reviews up until recently and I've learned a lot from them but I also feel it really paved the way for other women to stop putting on a happy face and just be able to say whatever the hell they wanted in their music unlike my experience where if I even expressed a note of sadness in my first two records I was deemed literally hysterical as though it was literally the 1920s anyways none of this has anything to do with about much but i'll be detailing some of my feelings in my next two books of poetry mostly the second one was simon schuster yes i'm still making personal reparations with the proceeds of the book to my choice of native american foundations which i'm very happy

about and i'm sure there will be a tinge of what i've tinges of what i've been pondering in my new album that comes out september 5th thanks for reading happy quarantining this was when lana del rey was definitely having kind of like a meltdown and wearing like a mesh mask and like dating a cop yeah but um like aside from the point like where she's comparing herself to women of color besides ariana grande who but at that point she was still kind of doing uh her blackfishing bit um i think that the point that she is kind of missing here is that like i know I've mentioned this before but like black girls and women are always sexualized like it's assumed that like little black girls know about sex because they're black like it's fucked up and I

think that when you have adult women making music about sex who are black women like it is accepted celebrated we're dancing to it and I'm sure there's something in there about like black people for entertainment um but i don't think that i'm the qualified person to make that point but um i think that what i've noticed on the other side of the spectrum and i've like noticed this with taylor swift too is like white quote-unquote feminists or white conservative women want to take and co-opt white female artists yeah and like force them to fit into this box of like very specific feminism it's not intersectional they're like you're a well-to-do white lady and you're popular therefore you need to be a girl power conservative badass perfect feminist yeah

but that is not what feminism looks like and I think like to Lana Del Rey's point though I think like she did make a good point of like I'm not glamorizing abuse I'm a glamorous person who is singing about my own experiences and abuse yeah um and I just thought it was really fascinating kind of analyzing like how popular white female artists are like even even Taylor Swift despite her continuously saying like she's not I wouldn't call her like a sexy artist and I also don't think she is good at being sexy yeah that's why she doesn't try to be sexy yeah but um like no matter how many times taylor swift defines her political views you have conservatives trying to force her to be conservative yeah i mean this is like for for a group of people that like talk so much

shit about feminism and like how like stupid feminism is like i i'm not a feminist like i don't i don't identify as a feminist but then feminism gave you the right to say this dumb right but then to try to like be the one to dictate like what does or doesn't contribute positively to the feminist movement like when you yourself are saying that you like think feminism is dumb like well and have both how is a straight woman supposed to represent her sexuality in a feminist way when we've all been subjected to the same patriarchal ideologies how i i just don't understand what the expectation is yeah you know like if you're a straight like i i do think that sabrina carpenter makes music for straight women and i think that like her performance is a lot

more interesting than her actual songs yeah um that being said like how how is this straight girl supposed to supposed to like talk about her sexuality in a feminist way i think she's doing a perfectly fine job and she's performing her music exactly how she wants to yeah and i mean she she does all of this knowing it's going to cause a stir she's not doing this in a way that's like oh i'm just being like authentically me hopefully nobody says anything you're degrading yourself and you're degrading women and i just think that someone who is empowered in their own sexuality isn't degrading themselves yeah i think that it seemed like a very self-aware and cheeky way to represent this album because i think that like any woman who has dated a man has at one

point been treated poorly by a man yeah and misunderstood by a man because that's how it is when you are living in patriarchy dating men yes that's just how it is so i think that like this kind of like kinky self-aware but also kind of like um uh self-deprecating image like it's like Betty Boop's performance of her sexuality yeah yeah she also like knowing where Sabrina Carpenter was like right before her like explosion of fame like how she was like dating Olivia Rodrigo's ex and like just got a bunch of death she was crucified for it called a slut and then that's when she really started to lean into the idea of like quote-unquote being a slut because she's like well people are calling me it anyway so like let's just lean in and it

became her her image in a way that's like it feels very authentically her it doesn't feel forced like it's very it's fun also like a fun depiction of like i just can't imagine being crucified in that way for liking just for dating someone else's ex that's what dating is and like that guy broke olivia rodrigo's heart and sabrina carpenter had nothing to do with it she was just kind of there afterward yeah yeah I don't like that's not very feminist yeah of of y'all yeah seriously I think that the fact that Sabrina Carpenter's PR team is not doing any sort of like crisis control right now is evidence enough that this is she did this to make people mad which is great oh yeah I think that like people are going to make their assumptions about it

because it is like I can see why it's controversial yeah when I saw it I was like oh that's spicy yeah but i wasn't like oh my god clutching my pearls also like it's what i would expect from her it's her that's her her brand i don't know um there are some comments on so i follow this account neoliberal hell and she posts the funniest shit um but there are some great comments in here that i thought would be worth reading some of these takes are so headass even if done ironically or as a joke the imagery reinforces uh bourgeoisie patriarchy because dominant ideology shapes mass perception cultural products that affirm gender roles of male control function as ideological tools normalizing and reproducing capitalist social relations while

participating in the bourgeoisie patriarchal spectacle like you're just making words yeah you're just making shit up stringing together words that sound just fancy opening a dictionary and pointing anywhere yeah um this one says i'm not a fan of the album cover but that's because i'm a low-key kink shamer and a misandrist um i don't get what the big commotion is about the cover seems relatively tame the controversy is bizarre to me because a lot of pushback comes from people who horny post all day long or even create sexual content themselves themselves the worst thing she could be guilty of is selling sex but how does that deviate from the norm for all female pop stars that's true yeah uh normally i'm overrun by kink at pride discourse in june but

this year it's is sabrina carpenter upholding patriarchy and is the degradation and the degradation of women i don't know if this is escapism because the world's on fire or what but it's interesting seeing how a picture is going this far because like tate mcgray made a music video for sports car that was all like sexual undertones and i've seen they literally wanted it to be like the whisper song yeah and she's whispering that's what she said yeah yeah and but like you don't hear it's interesting what like seeing a picture yeah people are so fucking mad yeah you don't even know what the fucking album's about why is it degrading for a woman to enjoy sex this comment says diane said this to bojack horseman oh i don't really think

about her all that much i mean obviously i'm a fan of her early work which both satirized and celebrated youth culture's obsession with sex but i do wonder as a third wave feminist if it's even possible for women to reclaim their sexuality in this deeply entrenched patriarchal society or if claiming to do so is just a lie we tell ourselves so that we can more comfortably cater to the male gaze but you know on the other hand i worry that conversations like this one often dismiss her as a mere puppet of the industry and capable of engaging in these discussions herself and and infantilization which is itself a product of the deeply misogynistic society we live in but like i said i don't really think about her all that much it's so funny it's a little i was

like i might as well have written that myself it's that's so perfect my favorite tweet about it though was um from cartoons hate her hate her and said why couldn't sabrina carpenter have done this for her album cover and it's a picture of hillary clinton in a pantsuit so fucking funny i laughed so hard that's literally what they want like white feminist women to do yeah it's like i'm a girl boss you know it's i feel like there are some parallels here with this and the sydney sweeney bath water so i think that sabrina carpenter is more of like a performer for girls like to appeal to women whereas like sydney sweeney like kind of leans into being a sex object for men and i don't think i don't necessarily think there's anything wrong with

have like a psychotherapist or a therapist appointment with you um I think I don't know I I didn't do too much research into that because I wanted to do the infusion type of therapy that's like that's the type that I've heard of people doing yeah it's been great there's a few different clinics in Seattle so I'm going to one of them um and they do the like first time you go it's like six sessions within three weeks so you have two a week and I start on Thursday so by the time this airs I will have gone to my first appointment I'm so excited to hear how it is yeah I'm excited too I um so last year I stopped taking antidepressants and I was talking to Mr. Liz and I was like have you really even noticed a difference in like my mood or attitude and he's like not really

and that's a good thing yeah um because i feel better and i mean the goal is always to like was to not take them long term right if i didn't need to um i feel a lot more like clear-headed like i feel like i i mean i'm still forgetful but i do remember things better yeah um sometimes things are a bit of an emotional roller coaster though and like the depression can get so bad sometimes where it feels just like i want to escape um sometimes i want to escape my being myself you know what i mean i get so sick of being in my own head and having my own problems that i'm like god i would just love to be someone else and like think about different problems for a while yeah and not not like world problems either because i can't escape that either right i like

I'm never not thinking about it it's exhausting um and I just want some of my my pep back um a sense of myself back yeah I also stopped taking Adderall and this is gonna sound so fucking stupid but um Adderall curbed my appetite too aggressively to the point where I didn't realize how much it was like affecting my mood and my energy because I couldn't eat like I would I would get really nauseous and then I would crash like it just I don't know so I stopped taking it um because I was I one I wanted to stop taking it before I started ketamine therapy because it can impact how effective it is um they recommend like oh just don't take it like the morning of but I was like I'm just gonna see I just want to see how it feels because I want to

get the most out of this that i possibly can because it's fucking expensive how much is it um it is uh twenty eight hundred dollars for six sessions okay and i mean i feel really thankful to be able to afford that totally um but i also it is a lot of money i will say that i got a bonus at work which is why i was like okay i'm going to use this for my mental health because um when i was reading on reddit what people had to say about their experiences they were saying that like while it is very expensive you also have to ask yourself like how much is your mental health worth to you yeah because a lot of people have like really positive things to say about their experiences and i thought that was a good point yeah um but yeah being able to like eat a normal

amount has been really good for me I've noticed my my mood has been significantly better but you know I'm still all over the map and I just had my period first period not being on Adderall in like over a year um was a little rough I was I texted Amelia this but it was rough uh a little bit for the mood aspect but traveling on your period is fucking miserable yeah I like bled through my pants they were white pants of course which that's on me i shouldn't have been wearing white pants on my period but also my things should just work yeah you know yeah tamp tampons and cups should just work agreed and like so at first i started i started my period with tampons because i was just like i'm traveling it's way easier to just deal with that than like

deal with the whole cup business yeah and then um i we stopped at like a store that didn't have any fucking tampons what and it was it was a gas station because we were road tripping and i'm like bleeding through my pants and i'm like fuck i'm bleeding through my pants i there aren't any fucking tampons at this shitty gas station and when we did stop somewhere the tampons were so expensive i you know i buy the organic ones because the regular ones are too itchy for me have like so much unnecessary shit yes and even the organic ones like those aren't even great either but they were they were like 20 jesus like i don't mean and then i would have to figure out how to pack all these fucking tampons and i was like whatever i brought my cup then i couldn't

find my cup so now i have underwear i have my underwear stuffed with toilet paper itchy gas station toilet paper oh it felt like a sandpaper diaper it was so uncomfortable and then i'm like having a meltdown because i can't find my cup finally found my cup and i was like thank god because it's not convenient to like replace a cup i would have felt i thought i left it at our hotel and i would have felt really bad for anyone who opened it and then saw my the thing about a cup too and sorry this is kind of gross uh but when you use a cup it kind of becomes like tupperware that you put spaghetti in yeah like the spaghetti sauce yeah never leaves the cup yep so it's just kind of permanently this like reddish rusty color yeah yeah rusty tinted so

um thankfully no one had to suffer with finding my my cup my spaghetti sauce cup only imagine some of the things that hotel staff find that's true it could have been way worse but i mean i'm like imagining like oh opening this and being like well what's in here is it important and then it's just my fucking cup my menstrual cup yeah uh not ideal yeah so it it was a little rough it was a little rocky yeah uh hard time to have a period that's for sure i'm really i'm really looking forward to hearing how your first session goes me too so by the time we record next week i'll have been to just the one session and then the following day i have another one yeah so damn back to back we'll see how it goes I know I'm really excited yeah I'm excited to hear how it

goes I'm excited to see like if it feels if like what you feel like after the first versus what you feel like after the second and so on and so forth like how different everybody that I've talked to that has done this says it's like the best thing they've ever done yeah the depression roller coaster is exhausting yeah and I just as much as I love a good roller coaster um and having a nice uh overdue meltdown yeah having one once a week is too often yeah it's too often um i just yeah i want to get back to feeling like myself totally and that has been impossibly hard yeah for many of us yeah in the last five years yeah i also and this is like i know this is not an issue like this is not mr liz's fault whatsoever but i do have a tendency of kind

of getting lost in my relationships and when you're with someone who is a great person and you still are getting lost in a relationship like i don't know yeah i i'm i don't want to hyper focus on my relationship anymore i want to refocus that energy on myself in a positive way Yeah. I think a lot of people what a lot of people don't understand about like going to therapy if you haven't been is how if you don't if your brain chemistry isn't in the place where it needs to be, no matter how much you understand what you're hearing in therapy, you can't connect the dots. yes like yeah i'm all talked out you can't like get over that like gap and it's because you don't have the you literally don't have like the toolkit in your brain to do it and like sometimes you need that little chemical bump sometimes like antidepressants are what you need sometimes they serve like a little purpose and take the edge off but they don't do like everything that

you need yeah and so that's why like all of this all these studies opening back up now for like psychedelic therapy like um mushroom therapy ketamine therapy all these things that are like starting to become more and more normalized is so fucking great because they're so promising and they've been so demonized for so long like since like the reagan administration you know yeah like the war on drugs yeah that it's it is really so great to see that it's like making a comeback yeah now you know like i don't know so i'm i'm excited for you to be able to like i don't know like address it with everyone because i know so many people have so many curiosities about it yeah i mean i'm curious i've never done ketamine um i've only done mushrooms
