Starting point is 00:00:00 and at first like i was like whoa this is so scary and deeply unsettling yeah but then he starts going let's set up direct deposit i want to send you money and i'm like hold on stop yeah wait a second hey so sorry i haven't been checking my messages i'm just seeing all of these oh we are here today with the amazing abby aconi she's an emmy award-winning meteorologist and anchor at the local fox affiliate here in seattle um she's also a self-proclaimed adolescent gay before we started recording I was like do you call yourself a baby gay still just like no I think I graduated to adolescent gay and here we are here we are it feels great you know it feels awful being a baby gay for a while these chaotic times but man I've really graduated I would say
Starting point is 00:01:13 probably about like 16 years old right now okay in the adolescent gay universe so okay so you're like more of like a like a freshman in high school gay now yeah although I am getting married this summer so would that update me am I a solid 19 now you're at least a yeah I would say you're like a 21 okay thank you you're gonna like have a few drinks young adult gay yeah you're an adult gay you're a young adult yeah YA gay makes me feel young at heart when I am truly a grandma for so many reasons including my early morning schedule as a newscaster I go to bed at 6 30 p.m that is what I have so many questions about that it's late for you now I know I know this it's almost it's almost bedtime for you we'd be turning into pumpkins right about now how do you do was
Starting point is 00:01:58 that hard to get used to when you first started doing the morning shifts it was so hard like i was telling you guys i feel like you either feel like dying or you feel like crying in the morning which is a really positive way to get the day started absolutely yeah but honestly it gets so much better from there i feel like you do kind of get used to it but that being said i do wind down at 4 30 p.m a crisp 4 30 p.m oh so yeah you know that's the i'm genuine i'm so boring i am so boring i don't think that's boring at all what does your fiancee do okay so she she's remote she's nine to five she's living that core okay are you guys on just totally different schedules totally different schedules but we do get a lot of flirting breaks which turns out that is so
Starting point is 00:02:42 important in a relationship yes right i go back we can flirt you know in between things very important I love that's true because you yeah you're done with your day and she's probably like on her second meeting absolutely that's yeah really perfect honestly like yeah just between meetings you can do your little relationship stuff relationship I yeah no that that makes it easier that she works from home yeah because otherwise there would be no way it is very sad on days when she's really booked and we do not get the flirty banter going or anything it just it you know it makes you feel so sad yeah deep in your soul gatsby's not very good at jumping so you just you just bonk his head yeah he did like a half jump bless his heart a little he's getting
Starting point is 00:03:24 worse and worse at it oh you're still good at it in my heart gatsby um okay what i i don't even sorry i feel like i was tangented i'm gonna let you know that's gonna be the whole podcast this is literally all we do is tangents yeah whatever you're thinking about you can say it into the microphone now that i know how to talk into a microphone and if you regret it we can also edit it out yeah that's true that's the best part of not being live that was so scary for me going on um the news with you for the first time this is the craziest thing i've ever looked at he knows what he's doing there's no way that was on accident do you love the attention he goes i'm star yeah i'm the producer you say to yourself he really likes to we call it yoinked yoink him
Starting point is 00:04:14 he wants to be yoinked yeah he knows he knows where to go for that yeah um but yeah no going on the news for the first time was so scary to me because this is the medium that i do everything in is like record and then cut out the shit that i'm like regretting later you know do you have you had any experiences where you've said anything on live TV where you're like oh I shouldn't have I shouldn't have absolutely sometimes you accidentally say things that are you you know what I mean you don't know what what's coming you don't you know know exactly what you're saying but I've definitely said some things where I'm like oh that could totally be taken the wrong way but the great thing about having a six-hour show is that if you make mistakes there's still like
Starting point is 00:04:58 hours and hours left to go yes so I think you just have to like I think I've just gotten more comfortable with making mistakes and then immediately repressing that memory yeah like it's so repressed I can't even think of certain ones that's that's how disassociated we get but that's how you got to be you have to forget the mistake right away because if it stays in your brain then you keep floundering more and more so I don't know it's just like weird mind games that's a really good point yeah you really do have to just kind of like separate yourself from what's what's happening especially too because I'm sure at least like on TikTok and Instagram people can re-watch something I don't think people are really rewinding and restarting like
Starting point is 00:05:36 local news yeah right really so it's like if they hear it they're gonna forget about it a hundred percent in a few minutes yeah and honestly sometimes I've also learned to like lean into the mistakes more because that's where like the real gold television is the morning newscast where you're bantering with everyone yeah and I feel like that's what you guys do so well right it's like you take a moment you lean into it right and and that's like what makes gold tv so from one newscaster apparently to another thank you so much yeah thank you so much well throwing some emmys at you right now oh my god oh my god we just got our first emmy from an emmy award winner how many that's how that works it's kind of like being a knight you know how knights
Starting point is 00:06:19 can night other nights that's so true yeah yeah we've been knighted with with an emmy that so that's exactly how it works so yes no but I only have one Emmy but let me tell you only have one I make it my entire personality I would too it's everywhere it's in the background of all my TikToks I'm very shameless it should be it's bad no I know it's kind of embarrassing no I know I think that it is well earned if I had an Emmy I would say that before I say my name like when I'm meeting people like hi I'm an Emmy award-winning yeah Emmy award-winning Amelia Samson Emmy award winner Amelia Sampson oh my god that's good stuff but back to making mistakes on the news I know so um we both know Leah Pezzetti yes um who is another local news personality here in Seattle
Starting point is 00:07:07 and she shares a lot of the emails that she gets about like her clothes that she wears and like her knees she gets like knees she got like a lot of hate not a lot she got two message two emails from women about how like they don't like her knees oh yeah so i don't like your knees what would you like me to do about that yeah do you want me i'm sorry yeah do you want to pay for like plastic plastic knee surgery is there plastic knee surgery no question we'll look into that later we need somebody we need somebody researching everything in real time that's actually not a bad idea we do we've needed that so many times we'll like fact check ourselves live um but i'm curious like what kind of interactions you've had with the audience like particularly
Starting point is 00:07:59 being queer in this space yeah when the audience that watches local news is like typically older like they skew a little bit older i would think i don't know if that's still the case but i know that that's been the case. Totally. Historically. Kind of 50s, 60s plus, you know, that's like a big demo. Yeah. Aim for the younger demo too. I remember when I was debating about coming out on TV because I only came out on TV two years ago. Like, you know, I've been in the business for 13 years. Part of that had to do with the fact that I was very repressed, did not come out to myself until late blooming queer over here right so that's great but I was so surprised with how positive the viewers were when I came out right because you would expect maybe you know I'm on a
Starting point is 00:08:46 local fox station you know I kind of didn't wonder what the reception would be so I was a little apprehensive but honestly so net positive people were so encouraging so had so many wonderful things to say like I connected with the rest of the queer community in the area it felt amazing of course there were still a small minority of people who would say things like well that's not gonna last or uh what you know she just hasn't met the right man yet oh they thought what about her husband because husband is part of the story okay it's part of the personal story but then some viewers have conspiracy theories that have also been pregnant before when i've been a little bloated okay and um lots of viewer email about the bloat lots of viewers concerned about it writing
Starting point is 00:09:31 in so when i announced my engagement to my now fiance alley people were like what has she done with her child she was ashamed of her child and she hit people have too much free time there's everything is a conspiracy theory that's crazy like they're i don't know do you see these like ridiculous conspiracy theories online about just like just about anything oh yeah yeah yeah and sometimes i'm like at first i was like these people aren't crazy but then when some of them are true you're like yeah y'all are onto something we were all dunking on you guys you're right this whole time yeah man that's a crazy thing i mean especially i you know men would never get any sort of like email about why they like maybe have like a little bit of bloat
Starting point is 00:10:21 that day you know like that's crazy that people hung on to that long enough to like see through the pregnancy well she should have had the baby yeah that was a year ago i wonder they were like she's ashamed of this child and she hid the child i that's crazy i can't tell you how excited i am to get pregnant at some point and i'll be thrilled and it'll be real you should just gaslight everyone you'll be like nine months pregnant and be like uh i'm bloated excuse me we're not commenting on our body but no I have um I literally I've compiled some weird viewer feedback that I've gotten some people they don't like the way you look sound um the way that you dress even the way you say certain words there a lot of I apparently got a lot of feedback one year on
Starting point is 00:11:09 the way I said temperature so can we go around the circle and just quickly say how do you say that word i just want to check the pulse on this one not to overthink this but let's take it away temperature i'd probably say temperature temperature okay that's how i was saying it temperature whoa temperature temperature yes say all the letters temperature one man wrote in saying something along the lines of i am scared for my children that they are not going to learn how to say the word temperature correctly are your children waking up and watching the news right is abby aconi getting them out of bed in the morning and picking them up from school and putting them to bed as a former child i was not watching the news so i can say that confidently
Starting point is 00:11:53 you've turned out so well-rounded for being someone that also says i think some people would debate otherwise but i agree temperature i say it i think you say i wanted me to say another r so i was told temperature by my managers you have three options you can say temperature temperature or temperature so just go with one of those and take it away that's like that's like when you're at the optometrist and it's like one or two yeah it's like these all sound the same it's the same what's going on i don't know i'm sweating that's what else have you like what other like crazy feedback have you gotten oh yes um one guy my first day on air when i was uh a meteorologist in calabar to sprays he called me up and he goes hey i i just love your naked earlobes
Starting point is 00:12:37 there's something about your naked earlobes that i'm just so into and i was like oh i'm trying to be so nice i was like oh thank you for your feedback like tell me more about these naked yeah i like that they don't have earrings naked earlobes so yeah i've i've worn i've worn earrings on air every day since then because i've been so scarred how scary well and that's like feedback you wouldn't even be anticipating to get no i know so i would think at max like you're you're naming things i never even thought of kneecaps earlobes yeah right people i would assume people would be like oh your skirt's too short yeah or it's not short enough right oh yeah you're either a little bit too like you're going to the club or you're a grandma like
Starting point is 00:13:24 viewers accuse you of kind of being either you're never really good like in between i would like to see what they're wearing and like not i mean a little bit of shade to uh seattle people but they're not the most they're they're not the most fashionable bunch of people right where do you get off you're wearing hiking clothes to work yes that's right that's what it's all about is this a joke gatsby keeps jumping in front of the camera like it's set up just for him are you trying to send us like a message this is like me i do love attention so much yeah i think he's like the light is shining i need to be here you are literally in the shot come here buddy you guys i cannot oh but you know what it's still beautiful you might have actually fixed it
Starting point is 00:14:12 maybe he wants to sit in your lap he really loves the love doesn't he he really does yeah he loves he loves attention he loves people he loves being pet picked so unusual for a cat he's just a little a friendly little guy yeah you're just a little he loves guests oh he'll probably try and sit in your lap at some point i would love that or you could even just pick him up and yeah that'd be great speaking of making it i remember the first time i got my first viewer uh mail from prison oh i remember thinking holy cow i have made it that's something i wouldn't even think about yeah because what are they watching in prison besides the news you know really not a lot just things that are available like not on cable yeah so what's that what's it called when something's
Starting point is 00:15:01 not on cable basic basic television yeah i think that's what we used to call it back in the day but yeah we just have we don't have oh no people would call it basic cable yeah anyway satellite i think they probably have no they probably don't have satellite anyway we could this is just the rest of the podcast we're trying to figure out like what tv plan they have in prison yeah if you're if you're listening to this from prison let us know right now you know and then you know some of the it kind of goes on the like the obsessive side so i remember a couple years ago i got a lot of messages from a guy every single day he would be like abby my beautiful wife where are you oh i miss you wife wifey where have you gone oh no and at first like i was like whoa this
Starting point is 00:15:44 is so scary and deeply unsettling yeah but then he starts going let's set up direct deposit i want to send you money and I'm like hold on stop yeah wait a second hey so sorry I haven't been checking my messages I'm just seeing all of these I just seen this for the first time I wasn't intentionally ignoring you hi did he end up sending you money he did not send me money I I was told to block him which is very good but um yeah so it sends a shiver down your spine every now and then you get someone who gets a little bit too too much of a fan yeah the parasocial they feel like they know you yes IRL because they watch you so much right and I should say that like the large majority people are so nice like I do want to give a shout we literally do have the best kindest warmest most
Starting point is 00:16:31 wholesome viewers ever this is like again like two for every like 5,000 people totally yeah well and I'm sure that the viewers there's probably not a lot of overlap if any between the local Fox news and this podcast yeah that's probably the case that's a very good point yeah hey but if that's you i mean maybe yeah well done you're like right at the apex of our demographic yeah yeah this should honestly be i want to i want to know if you also watch fox 13 local news um no what did the um what did the letter from prison say was it just like i'm a fan or like i gosh i'm trying to remember but i do remember it was like pages pages and pages no okay and it was like it goes into depth i i'm sure talking about what i was wearing you know the true
Starting point is 00:17:21 feelings that he has for me that type of thing so lord have mercy one of those oh my god uh-huh it's very fun i actually i i was feeling like this could be a cathartic moment for me to share please some of my weirdest viewer messages please do i thought this could be like maybe healing and spiritually i'm so excited it's gonna heal all of us yes for all of the times first number one abby where did you get your ugly clothes and i say hi next time you have something unkind to say help it be more constructive and so i said thanks for watching the next one is please i'm begging you please please pick another color to wear reds and bright pink is just way too hard on my eyes at 5 a.m god please try blue or green i'm not being a jerk
Starting point is 00:18:11 those red outfits kill me go blind no like you can wear that and come on the news right yeah the first one i think i would have told them where i got my clothes right yeah you actually oh my god thank you so much for noticing yeah here's where i got them actually got them out of your mom's closet abercrombie and this morning when i left that's probably what i would have closet that's a good one that's really good i so then i responded i said thank you so much for watching you know we wear red every friday in honor of the military which was true we were actually doing that oh but they felt like a fucking asshole then yeah a little shaming just like shaming back public shaming next one is for weather lady your pants need fixing and i said okay yeah so what's going
Starting point is 00:18:58 on here what's happening with the pants what do you mean yeah like pants need fixing in what way did they specify are they too long or too short no i thought these pants were a little baggy before baggy was like a goal to have with pants so i thought oh she's just talking about the bagginess so I said thanks lady or sorry thanks lady thanks lady thanks for the feedback I like my pants however they are baggy I see that I should get a new pair or maybe I should go eat more cinnamon rolls to fill them out hell yeah but I think I actually had an xyz moment on air I later realized hours later hours later oh no unzipped are people what I've always wondered are there people like in the control room like like they should knowing what's going on on this
Starting point is 00:19:44 camera I know they're like working on like getting graphics up and stuff but like I actually right you would think somebody would be like hey well also when it's so routine you're probably like yeah yeah you're like in a flow yeah yeah totally have I made a mistake on air we I think we found it the xyz xyz oh gosh you know I don't I think if it was noticeable enough you would have become part of like a you know those like newscaster fail compilations on youtube oh my gosh I have like nightmares at night that'll be a youtube sensation they're the best they are on they're so i am i'm the demographic for those videos i think they're so fucking funny regardless you have more i have more okay good good okay so i told you about temperature gate
Starting point is 00:20:26 that was terrible um okay this next guy i like you guys but what's up with abby every time i tune in she's wearing red for gosh sakes wear a different color i am not a fan of her bob haircut either this is when you had the bangs on the bob the bangs of the bob by the way there's i'm offended people also had trouble with the bangs as well so viewers gave a lot of feedback too long too short do you as i'm fixing my bangs do you know thank you they're a little too short for me right now but no they look good thank you they're styled well too constantly touching them um do you know if your male co-workers get feedback yeah are they getting feedback on their looks it's probably just like oh my god I love you so much man on my tv yeah that's what I
Starting point is 00:21:14 would imagine yeah the feedback a man is getting feedback you would give a man on tv no no I'm never giving a man feedback if I don't have to talk to them yeah I'm never giving a man positive feedback except for my boyfriend yeah no but there are I mean for all of the men stalkers literally stalkers plural that I've had all of the men that I know in tv they've also had some lady some lady stalkers really as well yeah there's there's there's someone for everyone oh my god there's a stalker for everybody absolutely that's i mean i know that that exists but it's still shocking to hear like yes are they like older women do you know like i okay so one of my good friends who's been in the business for a really long time he did have a female stalker who would
Starting point is 00:21:59 follow him into like grocery stores like now that's scary when they're actually physically following you I don't know if I hope that I haven't had that I haven't noticed yeah if I've had that scary very scary yeah so it's on the creepy level for sure this brings me to a story of when I just started dating my now fiancee Allie I had um at least one stalker at the time and we'll get into the part where she was actually how many of you had total I mean I I've had like probably like five oh my god that's a lot and i don't know like some of them have been worse than others but she was staying late at my place and we suddenly hear this very distinct tapping on my window it was so late y'all it was so late it was so dark so we go army crawl essentially into the
Starting point is 00:22:51 kitchen she gets one of the really big rolling pins and i get the largest knife i can find a rolling pin is a good weapon yeah i snuggle up on the couch with our knife and rolling pin for the rest of the evening it was so so terrifying you know I got the greatest security system ever oh yeah you think a bad thought walking by my house you are zapped you're there yeah what security system do you have just out of curiosity ADT these people oh I've seen a lot of ADT signs around here I have simply safe simply safe oh there you go it's I have a bat that's my security system oh my god okay so that's a good segue into let's talk about when you first saw Allie on the dating apps because you had a stalker yes I don't know
Starting point is 00:23:43 if you're comfortable talking about that stalker in particular but could can you tell us that story I feel so honored that you asked me to tell the story because now it feels like so great to be laughing at it yeah it's so past tense like we all have these weird type of stories that anyway so now we're laughing uh at the trauma so basically a few months before Ali set me like on hinge I went on a few dates with this guy okay broke it off somebody you had met this was something I had met and gone on dates with oh no how many dates we had gone on like three dates okay just enough like very early on you're feeling things out feeling things out and I remember having a distinct feeling while I was dating like he and what was so creepy about it is that he seemed like
Starting point is 00:24:25 such a great guy he was actually a life coach and would always post inspirational things I feel like that's a red flag to me oh yeah a life coach you know yeah I think that's they're always a little yeah yeah they're and like some of them are legit but then like I don't know there's a bunch of them on the bachelor they're giving advice and they have like the lives that are falling apart the most it's like are you really the foremost authority on like how people should get their lives together but anyway okay it's so true we love coaches but also like maybe we should have degrees when we're therapizing you know we love your percent therapist yes great yes so he's like tweeting things like be kind while he's actively stalking me and sending me that's scary that's so
Starting point is 00:25:06 scary you never know so i start getting i i broke things off i randomly start getting these threatening messages on social media things like you're a monster i hope you rot forever you know you weird weird things i'm like oh it's just for me it's just like another day yeah yeah you were saying yeah so strange tell me something i haven't heard right and then this other guy i go on a date with he goes hey your friend denise wants to go on a date with me is that okay and i'm like i don't know a denise go for it he goes there's this lady on hinge who's pretending to know you turns out stalker boy had noticed he had been stalking the number of people that i was following on instagram so stalker boy saw that the number of people i was following went up by one one night and he
Starting point is 00:25:54 identified that new person i started following as this other guy i wanted to date with so stalker boy within 24 hours creates a new hinge account and within 24 hours matches with this guy on hinge he has to go through hundreds and hundreds of guys on hitch to find this one guy so stalker boy was pretending to be a woman named denise and then what was he gonna do yeah exactly hang on that's a good question actually what was the long game yeah yeah like was he gonna like ambush him he was like gonna set up a date and then like ambush this guy like that's scary yeah and you know what the reason i had broken it off of this life coach is because i think i i i really wanted a a career focused person. I don't think I understood his career very much. It seemed
Starting point is 00:26:39 like he had a lot of time on his hands, a lot of life coaches. And he clearly did. That was, that was a good read. A lot of time on his hands. That's crazy. So anyway, so then I had to like, basically call people I had gone on dates with in recent months, just to give them a heads up that they, this person might be stalking them. I call stalker boy himself. I'm like, Hey, I have a stalker. Knock it off. And he's like, how dare you call me and tell me that you've dated other people since we've dated are you fucking joking oh i i was like i said i apologized to the stalker i was like i am so sorry i didn't mean to whatever it's a wild thing oh my god i understand like i'm also the kind of person who fawns in the moment of like right of course threat but i know
Starting point is 00:27:24 like please i need to ask this gentleman to have a moment of self-reflection and be like is that a normal way to respond to something moving away from psychoanalyzing this man there's just like no understanding i was thinking what if you like pull a joe goldberg and like stalk him back oh yeah oh my god i'm gonna be even crazier than yeah you think you know crazy outside his window at night literally on his twitter at the time he's like hey let's just all treat each other with basic respect and kindness and decency you're crazy while he is doing these things that's just so I was trust that I was like so deeply freaked out I was so freaked out this time so understandably now I'm starting to think that everyone is the
Starting point is 00:28:10 stalker so I started having like being really suspicious about people sending me likes so six months later this girl named Allie sends me a like on hinge two things one she was way too put together okay she red flag red flag you're all green flags red flag that's so really we've all been there absolutely this is a killer yeah rule her out but no uh yeah she she was put to put together she was a little bit too attractive and there was like this bikini photo that stuck in my brain okay like altered my brain chemistry so i remember that so i turn her down then years later my friend says hey i want to introduce you to my friend ali shows me that photo and i'm like no way she i thought she was my stalker she was real she was real y'all but here's the thing i was not ready
Starting point is 00:29:03 in the universe i i was still a baby gay at the time it was just an introduction it was an introduction yeah literally years later that i remember it was the universe kind of priming you like yeah yeah this is gonna be your future yeah that's right like uh i don't know like a I want to say like a tingle but like a feeling when you met her what I had oh yeah like oh this was supposed to happen we were supposed to meet I was always so annoyed by people that said that before that these people are terrible this never happens and then it absolutely happened you know what I mean I actually I Allie makes me cry a lot okay couching for good reasons but I literally tears happy tears I literally wept after our first date because it went so positively oh my god Abby
Starting point is 00:29:48 I was so deeply touched oh I mean you you had posted the the text exchange that you had after your first date and it's just the sweetest thing in the world like you guys were both just like clearly on cloud nine could you relay it oh my gosh yeah it was just it was just like for me and the listeners we're on this journey together I got you it was something it was something like you are such a breath of fresh air I don't know it was just like lesbian poetry she said that to you or you said that to her I think we both said some you both said that oh my god yes and you both said to your friends like I just met my wife like basically yes we both texted the besties being like I'm pretty sure I just met my wife which was so great I love that that makes me so
Starting point is 00:30:34 happy did you guys like do one of the accidental proposing on the same day things or yeah have you seen videos like that it's always lesbians it's always like to say they're always like they're always like wait i was already then one of them pulls out a ring they're like i was also going to propose to you you know what's so funny is we are so planned i don't know about you all but we have no chill whatsoever we started going engagement shopping probably like at 10 months at point which we moved in we actually we actually chose our sperm donor and booked our wedding venue before we even got engaged holy shit when you know you know if yeah if you already know you're gonna be yeah you why wait on getting married but like shopping for donors before we had even
Starting point is 00:31:15 got engaged that's a bonding activity it's a long process you like really have to do a lot of you might have you kind of have to start early on something like that you want to be sure you get the right person i know and it honestly choosing a sperm donor is like online dating okay hear me that there's so many medium people out there where you feel so deeply uninspired by them all right you feel nothing inside your heart and your soul so we finally found the right guy and y'all it was like taylor swift tickets with this with this donor do you did you like meet him we did not meet him okay we went with just like one of the sperm banks you know where you know enough about them but you don't know them personally and we called and they're like oh this guy is waitlisted
Starting point is 00:31:54 okay he's waitlisted everybody wants this guy's sperm wait why so I'm trying to like woo this person like I'm almost like borderline flirting with the sperm donor person being like so like when is the next like batch coming out or my god what's the next batch how do you ask that yeah what are you like when are you coming in a cup next like how do you how do you ask that I hadn't even considered that but okay sorry continue batch I think she said I don't know we should cut this but she said it's the next release will be on this date and I just like instantly shut down because that word felt too intense for me yeah I was like oh man this is he really is like dropping like tickets to like a ticket like a stadium tour wording just wait so
Starting point is 00:32:41 how did you how do you how do you pick a sperm donor how did you guys pick yours I know so we we really liked the bank that we went with you you go online it's basically it's basically like dating you look at different photos of them and then they have audio interviews they have essays and most of the time the essays are like i wanted the money so please pick me oh my god right which we get it we we love getting the we love getting the cash but but at the same time like give me something more so this guy was like his aunt used a donor his his niece and nephew were donor conceived he's like y'all he's like a double doctor phd md and we were like we gotta lock this in yeah that's why he's weightless yeah those are some great genes yeah he's like musical
Starting point is 00:33:29 and sporty basically it was really important to us that like we felt enthusiastic about the donor so that with our kid the enthusiasm comes through and they feel extra special and intentional and loved so anyways I remember like borderline flirting with this like sperm bank rep and she goes hold on let me go in the back I think we might out back have some extra some loose she found some extra samples no out back and I was like are we sure this is like his good are we good so man all it takes is just asking the uncomfortable questions yeah boom bada boom we we got it figured out we got it locked in it's locked in locked in made embryos those embryos are on ice so yeah we're we're in great shape but literally if anyone is going through a sperm
Starting point is 00:34:20 donor journey totally get it totally been there yeah i've wondered if it's like if the process is like ivf like or if it's i don't know they just put it in turkey based i don't know yeah like i guess i've never i haven't looked into it so oh we we can go we can go there if you want yeah you can do the iu yeah yeah our listeners are you know probably experience experimenting with the same absolutely at the same stage of life there's also been a lot of conversation kids yeah recently about like not having men involved in like the parenting process yeah doing doing it on their or having kind of like a a convent or what would is it called would it be called a convent just like you and all your friends oh commune a commune there we go there we go that is for the nuts
Starting point is 00:35:12 which also sounds kind of nice or a convent a convent sounds great yeah i would go a convent commune so i could get on yeah yeah the lesbians would love the lesbians would love i think we've got a real idea convent compound yeah i kind of love it we should we should trademark that um speaking of convents this is I this is like a funny story about my nana like um so before my nana passed away she had like you know home nurse care and stuff and between like the nurses and my her kids visiting like my mom um my mom was she said to my mom I think that this nurse used to be a nun and then she was like why do you think that and then she's like i don't know i just get this feeling like she used to be a nun big nun vibes yeah yeah big nun vibes and then my mom
Starting point is 00:36:06 meets her and she's like elizabeth she was just a very butch lesbian i was like that's amazing because like to these older generations like that's the only explanation is that this is somebody religious married to jesus generation you know like a lot of nuns probably were lesbians because they're like i don't want to marry a man yeah yeah so i think that's hilarious so good just like she associates just like a butch lesbian with like a nun that is hilarious that is so good but yeah if you picture it yeah maybe that's a good spot to be i well i just think that would probably be what's ending up happening with yeah well nuns and like probably priests too obviously but yeah i think nuns probably aren't as uh egregious egregious no yeah evil as priests
Starting point is 00:37:00 yeah i can say that on our sacrilegious podcast on our sacrilegious podcast i grew up very religious i was i'm a pastor's kid i'm a pk oh okay you know my brother is also i think he's i think he's a deacon oh oh my gosh i hope i got his title catholic deacon or anglican deacon okay well that's a lot of consonants yeah so lots of great anyways lots of great i grew up you know very very religious very faith-based i think that helped contribute towards the late blooming i was gonna ask did you have some did you have any like um like what's the shame like associated with it the shame was immense yeah internalized i was just gathering dust up here in this closet you know what I mean yeah closet what but what was your what would you say okay reflecting on your
Starting point is 00:37:52 childhood what would you say was a queer awakening for you like a like one that you didn't really notice until you were an adult that's it that is a really good question I think it was hard because I do identify as bi so it's confusing being boy crazy which also there is a boy crazy to lesbian pipeline yeah it's like well discussed on the on the internet too it's so funny but I think that's what confused me for a long time but I do remember confessing to my dad that I thought Britney Spears was super hot and so he was just like okay thank you for sharing wow kind of like moved along but I do remember I had a friend in junior high that I was kind of obsessed with and I think I was like too attached I had like a savior's complex to help her and I thought I was just being a good
Starting point is 00:38:41 Christian girl but I was like maybe there were like some selfish motives like also at play genuinely though I don't think I really knew I liked girls until I was in my early 20s it really took some time took some time yeah you know but that's I think that that's good because it feels like a lot of the conversation of like when when people were talking about like they're coming out stories online a lot of it was like you know like the the offensive nature of being like when did you know you know because it's like well when did you know you were straight like I don't fucking know but some people really don't come to terms with it until they're they're older so it's yeah it's it's an interesting you don't hear a lot of stories like yours that it's like
Starting point is 00:39:21 no i like was really kind of patting this down for a long time to the point where like i really didn't even know like the repression yeah the repression so strong yeah because like it was so reinforced to like boys and yeah you know i didn't realize i like girls until i was married to a man really it happened while you were married that happens you know what I mean but he actually responded really well because I was like I think I'm bi and he did not make it weird he did not objectify at all or or anything like that he was like this is how you you know identify I really support that so and it didn't change anything about our relationship either our relationship was like monogamous I wasn't like oh so I think it lessened like maybe complications but anyway
Starting point is 00:40:02 totally because i feel like my experience was like the minority right most of the time like my experience is very similar to yours oh yeah yeah yeah well are you fruity too yes oh my gosh i love this yes but i was thinking about like so i just looked it up on my phone because i was like what did i send to my boyfriend where i was like i'm pretty sure this was my by awakening but i didn't know it i didn't acknowledge it until adulthood i was like oh oh yes maybe it wasn't like normal that I was like putting hearts around girls pictures in the yearbook because I thought they were pretty yeah that's I put a little heart next to them that is pretty yeah no but I think my awakening was um uh bring it on missy when she does her
Starting point is 00:40:52 like gymnastics routine I was like that's cool when she like she has like a tattoo but it's drawn on and uh have you seen you've seen this oh yeah yeah have you seen i haven't i haven't seen it oh you haven't seen bring it on it's really hard to find now because it's like pretty offensive so they've taken yeah like every streaming platform it didn't hold up i could send you i could send you this scene so in bring it on um there's like this kind of like edgy girl who's auditioning is it an audition she's trying out for the cheerleading squad because they don't have a gymnastics team and she has this like fake tattoo on her arm and they're like we don't allow tattoos on the cheerleading squad and then she like takes her middle finger and she like
Starting point is 00:41:32 wipes it off and she's like i got bored in class and i was like who is this girl i want to be like that i'm getting warm yeah it's like do i want to be her or do i have a crush on her it's very confusing age-old question yeah bye girl oh it's so good do i want to be you or do i want to kiss you do you want to be you or do I want to be in you yeah I can't tell I'll figure it out later but I did I did have the similar like kind of boy crazy thing yes so and so you're like oh I like boys a lot so I yes yeah like sexuality was totally binary yeah yeah oh there's only being gay or straight that that's the only yeah I have totally did you also feel like this intense pull towards the queer community because i remember at the time when i was really like
Starting point is 00:42:24 extra christian i was like i just feel so called to support i have to save them no um well i was i was in theater so you know everyone's gay yeah everyone's gay i had a crush on a lot of gay men i still i still do unfortunately yeah i don't know it just happens we were like why do I like them I don't know he gets me yeah this guy gets me yeah what is it funny because I remember always being really drawn towards the gay guys too yeah I think it was like well it's helped me develop gaydar better because yeah like well I had a crush on so many different gay guys that now I can tell yeah I don't know it's pretty good I feel like my gaydar is so messed up really because i think because i'm like so straight passing i'm like what what is gay anymore yeah
Starting point is 00:43:17 it's so hard to know anything could be anything that's a really good point and i feel like a lot of like queer like fashion is becoming more mainstream too you know wearing the doc martens and everything like but what does it mean how are we supposed to know yeah i do think it's more confusing with women yes what are the telltale signs like tell me more about your gaydar with with women i don't know i feel like it's just almost like a sense where you're like i can tell but and also in seattle i feel like in seattle it's just like any woman on the street could be like you're queer in some way and they probably are yeah and they probably are in seattle yeah honestly yeah i sound i think that's why it's been great being like visibly queer on tv
Starting point is 00:44:04 because I think this is just a very there are lots of queer people in Seattle yeah it's very queer coded very queer friendly yes and I think people respond to that absolutely well that's good that's really good to hear like within the last few years too it's been more of a there's more of an understanding now of like the spectrum of identity and sexuality like people understand it better and there's like more self-exploration I think I was thinking about this other day I think that there are i think there are a lot of men who are bi and they don't know it because they haven't explored it and it's probably similar with like oh well i am attracted to women so this yes how i feel about men is just respect or something i just have this deep man crush
Starting point is 00:44:52 lots of man crushes strong feelings i know i always love seeing a bi boy be like visibly like yeah i am like you don't see so hard yeah like what what's going on with harry styles these days right i was gonna bring him up like yeah i love him for being like i don't know fluid and bi because like unfortunately bi boys they they get mistreated a lot too yeah like my ratio is so real for all bi pan people but especially by men yeah is harry styles bias he like is that confirmed oh i have no idea questions and answers i was hoping i'd hear the news voice today i know there was a question i know it's like uh something with pedro pascal yeah he was spotted on a date with a man recently we love that yeah i've heard some clips of him talking just like to his friends
Starting point is 00:45:43 in passing and i'm like oh yeah he's gay because he also i mean like he's a trans sister and so he's been like really like vocal about supporting like the queer community about Pedro Pascal yeah so people are like oh no he's not gay he's just like a supporter but like then now people are like wait I think actually maybe he is but it's it's a little bit it's a little bit cloudy but um the the conversation's been happening a lot too with the heated rivalry boys did you watch heated rivalry I've seen clips of it I need to get into it you have to watch it Abby oh my god fun first 15 minutes i was like i'm hooked yeah oh yeah this is a blast no it's it's phenomenal it's like it's like it starts out like fun and kind of slutty and then you're like i guess this
Starting point is 00:46:25 is just all sex and then by episode three you're like oh my god yeah it's so beautiful i'm really invested in this relationship now but the two guys that played the main characters aren't like open about their sexuality because they want to just like i don't know not have the conversation be about that yeah and one of the guys like on valentine's day posted about his very long-term girlfriend and people were like no yes people were devastated that's right they were so sad it's yeah no but it's i mean he might be bi it's but it's so hard to tell which goes back to our conversation like there's no it's so hard to know because it doesn't feel like there's a whole lot of bi men that are talking about the fact that they're bi well and because because you know of
Starting point is 00:47:07 men okay men period all right um dot dot dot you know if if there's a guy that actually is attracted towards other men the thought is well you must be purely gay yeah right there's not a possibility that you could be like a little mix of both yeah that's a good point that's that is an interesting societal belief that's held the assumption that it's always men and there's always a preference for the men so harry styles you keep rocking it he kissed a guy on snl recently yeah i'd love to see it ben marshall there you go that's my that's my current celeb crush oh yeah yeah he's the tall redhead oh yeah okay yeah i think i think he's the snl heartthrob absolutely which is so funny because he's like translucent so it's like so funny that like well i mean tall great head of
Starting point is 00:47:54 hair yeah handsome slam dunk so pale and i feel like those are the dudes that are always like translucent representation yeah and that's why i feel really connected to him in that way um i hate to change the subject because we are almost to an hour and i have a game i want to play let's go so i we've played this in the past but a different version and i've now tweaked it to be abby aconi specific i feel so special i'm going to list a bunch of things to you that are either seattle related weather related or just random i guess i love you amelia that are my favorite things yeah i know i love it i had so i had so much fun and you're going to tell me if you think that these inanimate things or like hypothetical people are gay straight or bi
Starting point is 00:48:40 oh this is so fun are you ready are you ready for this let's go okay carrying a patagonia jacket year round gay straight or bi okay you're in two worlds at the same time which world am i straddling right now yeah we're straddling both yeah all right it's kind of like spring winter or it's like yeah it's like spring and fall we're in between the seasons right now yeah you got to keep it on you you also never know with seattle we're fluid yeah right when are we gonna use weather fluid yes we may never use the jacket but we might this is a fantastic that was that was a great first question answer no no you're crushing it hey that was the first or second snort of the hour
Starting point is 00:49:27 sorry back that was fun i live for your snorts i live okay drinking oat milk oh um oh gosh this is like actually very lesbian yeah but this is confusing okay i'm confused this is hard i'm gonna go lesbian it was a lesbian thing to begin with now it's become a straight thing okay it was originally more of a lesbian yeah i think it was more of a queer thing initially yes and now one time a barista taking it from us yeah honestly it's appropriation everyone's lactose intolerant my culture is not your costume one time a barista did tell me i was oat milk presenting and then that would sustain me yeah i i was like i had like an one earring with like a dangly thing and the other one was like a stud and like i was just wearing kind of like a fuck-ass outfit
Starting point is 00:50:14 then i was like i do look oat milk presenting that was an accurate read that's a slay that's a thank you that would also go that would go on my linkedin i was like wow i will endorse you presenting b2b marketer yeah honestly you should consider it corporate now yeah oh yeah i'll endorse you for oat milk presenting okay what about almond milk almond milk okay this is an interesting one uh almond milk makes me feel sad on the inside because it's thin and runny so i'm gonna give it to the street because i don't want it i think it was straight too yeah and also it's like bad for the environment it uses a lot of water yeah yeah oh my god it takes so much water to grow almonds yeah yeah okay well what do you think another phenomenal
Starting point is 00:51:07 answer Amelia oh um I agree with everything you've said so far you know I was gonna say Patagonia mom coded you know and something about being an almond mom is also inherently straight yes absolutely right I feel that very well the only one I originally I thought carrying a Patagonia jacket year-round was straight because it just feels very like um like straight tech bro but that's also maybe more Patagonia vest um but regardless you have shifted my answer so I'm I am on board with everything you've said wow thanks moving along apologizing to a stranger who bumped into you gay straight or bi wow gay straight or bi this is this is hard you would never see this in seattle never people do do not care right oh man i'm stuck on this one what am i
Starting point is 00:51:56 gonna say what am i gonna say i'll give it to the bi people i just i just love my little bi people they're just so cute yeah they're so cute they're people people yeah you know what i mean yeah it does feel like a people person thing absolutely okay um saying partly cloudy when it's emotionally devastating outside gay straight or bi gay straight or bi partly cloudy um i would say that is oh man it's it's it's the bi people once again it does feel yeah okay yeah it does feel like maybe like your experience as being bi where you're like in denial of like the reality there's just general like repression happening you're staying like delulu on your sexuality for so long yeah yeah you're staying delulu on the weather too partly cloudy is also just uh a lazy forecast
Starting point is 00:52:53 in my humble opinion yeah because it's like it's just a mixture of both which is also straddling the two worlds which is also just deeply bi absolutely yeah okay welcome to both love it absolutely amazing okay um in that same kind of vein uh that one rogue 70 degree day that everyone loses their minds over also known as fake summer here in seattle fake summer it's gonna happen mid april and are you ready to feel like transformed from the inside out yes absolutely i'm waiting for i started making a summer playlist in january so yeah you've been really you've been prepping i've in my head i'm just like it's the summer it's so sad when i wake up and it's dark i'm gonna say that's that's lesbian okay you know what i mean there's like deep deep ups and downs that you're
Starting point is 00:53:41 experiencing and you're like emotionally in touch yeah about the change yeah you know what i mean totally you have to like somehow get through the darkness that is the yeah after the false summer okay it's horrible but lesbians have a lot of emotional resilience because they've gone through so much yeah so it's like they can do it you know what i mean absolutely yeah honestly lesbian great answer i feel like you could sell the shirt off your back abby you're just really you are selling everything to me um liking ipas oh my god i know i know i'm right there with you ipas it just feels like um straight tech yeah bro i just it feels like just categorically tech bro like why does every beer need to be an ipa yeah what is wrong with your taste like pennies yeah to me it tastes
Starting point is 00:54:29 like grandma's potpourri ew like the it's just so fragrant yeah let's just let's hover on that for a moment everyone digests that gross bleak that i just want more crispy lagers yeah it's not enough do you like beer i i am okay with beer okay i feel mid is that what the kids say the mid yeah i think they're still saying that okay yeah yeah mid i don't know i don't know oh yeah you know what we have to talk about sorry there's a clear overlap with certain things there's a venn diagram between the outdoorsy tech bros and the lesbians okay so i think there might be a little bit of both going on okay that's very fair do you feel like the tech bros have ripped off lesbian style or lesbians are ripping off tech bro style wow you know it's always the
Starting point is 00:55:17 men are always you know at fault here so it's going to be the men for me yeah yeah i feel like a lot of men do a lot of queer baiting with their tote bags so you know i know it's a confusing time i know when a man is carrying a tote bag that he's probably straight yeah yeah performative he probably like also like loves phoebe bridgers yeah yeah he's performing lesbian culture yeah to appear safe to women right he's writing poetry yeah like a coffee shop his favorite movie is titanic yeah oh my god that's a personal thing um okay we're gonna do two more i'm i'm looking at my list and i feel good about these final two i can't wait okay wait can liz join me on this one too please for these i want to get any both of your i need both of your thoughts on
Starting point is 00:56:09 these um okay saying let's circle back straight see this is the one with the straight tech bros yeah yeah i feel like straight men determine office culture yeah no i think so too yeah yeah okay that was too easy i'm gonna do two more from now okay the pcc hot food bar for those that don't know it's like whole foods i am there almost every other day it feels like i love pcc i i haven't tried their hot food bar anytime i go to pcc it's kind of late at night oh yeah and it's also yeah take it away yeah and they've taken it away or or i'm like i'm there for one thing i'm not there to try the the it looks good though smells good it feels it feels very by there it's hard to come up with a reason why maybe it's just
Starting point is 00:57:00 a feeling it's a feeling it's a vibe it's an aesthetic i think it's because it's at pcc as well if it were at Whole Foods I think I would say straight 100% PCC yeah you get more of the fruity bunch in there absolutely actually a great dating idea just meander around PCC and look confused and maybe you will find your soulmate that's a good idea yeah come to Seattle just look lost in PCC PCC looking lost at PCC that sounds like a like a an album like the name of like a phoebe bridger's album lost in lost in pc she would totally i love that is she from the pacific northwest i wish she feels like it yeah she feels like she is from the pacific she's like sad enough you know she's very sad yeah a comedian did call my bangs phoebe bridger
Starting point is 00:57:45 oh that's heather shaw yeah yeah it was heather shaw well because i like got up to go to the bathroom during her set and then she was like bangs going to go listen to phoebe bridger in your car it's like so fucking funny and then when we said hi after she was like oh my god it's bangs i'm so sorry no that's that's a compliment i took it as a compliment phoebe bridgers level dang what's her story what's going on with her lately oh she was allegedly dating beau burnham oh we're talking about phoebe bridgers oh yeah i thought i was about to tell you a heather shaw update i'm like multitasking over here i'm trying to find a good last question and i'm like oh she actually just got caught up in the jim carrey uh clone did you see all that going on with heather
Starting point is 00:58:30 no people thought that she was jim carrey's clone that was on the red carpet when all that was going on like that's not jim carrey people were like it's this comedian heather shaw and he had to post a video from an airport like i am in a different city yeah i'm currently in an airport fucking crazy um okay our final one is going to be running marathons for fun i don't know to me that feels straight but i also hate running so i don't i can't i hate running yeah i can't speak for the gay running community i gotta say there are some some lesbian ladies like big lesbian influencers who are major into running runners yeah okay a few that come to mind i'll i'll have to link them at some point but they
Starting point is 00:59:22 man i think this is going to be the overlap yeah it's not for the buys i can tell you that much it's not for me i i think yeah i i think i'm gonna agree here that it's the overlap of the gays and the straights yep but not the buys yeah okay that's a good i feel good about ending on that one actually that was fun yeah because i was thinking about i was like okay i was thinking about one of the people i know who is a runner and he's gay yeah yeah the runners i know are either only that's coming to mind no you're right i'm thinking exclusively straight yes i feel like is it too much of a by erasure of the running community by people are not confused but maybe that's too much commitment oh yeah i mean i'm a commitment
Starting point is 01:00:03 i just don't i don't know i don't like how it feels to run i i'll never get the runners high no no me neither i if i have to pick a form of cardio it's not gonna be that no absolutely not it's gonna be something fun i was looking into getting like a um a peloton treadmill okay because i like they're too expensive i do not make peloton money it turns out but it's like i just don't like the act of running outside it's just like it's so hard on your knees yeah it's unpredictable it's dangerous for women yeah you could get snatched yeah like more often than it should happen you might end up spraying that pepper spray right back at you Amelia you've done it before and I've not picked it up since I've been scarred so you never know that when I need it I might just spray
Starting point is 01:00:52 it right back at myself again yeah Abby Oconee thank you so much yeah this was so fun so honored yeah thanks for doing this what is what are your socials where can people find you if they wanted to check out your amazing content if they want to give you unsolicited feedback on your outfit what colors are annoying y'all these days please i welcome the feedback um it's it's very pretentious it's the abby aconi hell yeah on on tiktok and instagram you are as a minestrone as in a cone of ice cream that's how you spell it a cone you got this guys you got this oh very nice okay i love it cool thank you so much for being here this is so fun i had a great time it's cool seeing you out of the studio all right um yeah if you can if you uh want to find abby you know she just
