Starting point is 00:00:00 You're not really going to fight me with a sword, are you? I do like your confidence. Normally I'm a little more chatty. I do have one thing to say. I think it'll wait. Shit's about to get steel. I need some action tonight. The episode of the action returns.
Starting point is 00:00:50 I'm your host, Brian, and with me as always is my brother Nez. What's up, man? Yo, man, what's going on? Just... out here. It's raining. No more snow. But it always snow.
Starting point is 00:01:05 Sometimes it snows all the way into May. It's just freezing right now. Other than that, man. Oh, I got vaccinated with my first shot. And no superpowers yet. None.
Starting point is 00:01:23 None at all. Just fucking tired. And I had a headache. all day but I think I think I fucked up my neck I mean just throughout my life
Starting point is 00:01:39 and that's been sore been doing my neck exercises and it kind of helps with the headaches so I'm sure I get my headaches just because of that but other than that man my arm it was hell sore yesterday it was all good when I got it but then they were like
Starting point is 00:01:56 all right just wait 15 minutes to see if anything happens to you. Nothing happened. I felt a little dizzy, but maybe that was just, just me thinking too much. But I went to work and I was all good. But when I got home,
Starting point is 00:02:11 I was like, oh, my arm. It was just hell of sore. I could. I sleep on my left side. But last night, I couldn't. It just, it hurt to lay on my arm. So I had to look the other way. But other than that,
Starting point is 00:02:25 um, pretty good so far. I mean, stress level went down. I mean, this isn't going to prevent me from not getting it, but it'll help. I get my next shot next month. They say, yeah, come back. For those of you don't want to hear more, listen to my latest episode, East Society slash
Starting point is 00:02:50 McNez crossover over on Anchor on the East Society page. I just dropped that this morning. It's only like 40 minutes, and it's me. pretty much my entire time in line waiting to get vaccinated and up to the point to where I get it so you guys want to hear that go for it I talked about all kinds of shit before they gave me the shot but it was an episode it was cool something that uh one of my friends already listened to it was man he was that was pretty cool he goes you only got the shot only took like a second and went yeah I did but I'm all right man I was uh
Starting point is 00:03:28 Not sure if I was ever going to get it because of the whole tier situation. But, uh, yeah, it was a big free for all. So I went down there and got it. That's nice. Yeah, we're, I guess we might as well. I don't know. My wife's still kind of on the fence about it. So.
Starting point is 00:03:52 I don't know. I said, man, if you guys want to get it, get it. If you don't, don't. but I don't know. I've said this before. I just don't think it's going away. Oh, it's not. With the new variant and everybody's still running wild
Starting point is 00:04:13 and wanting the party and all that. I don't know. We'll see how it goes. Hopefully, at least we can get it under some kind of control. There was a lot of people that came out to have vaccinated, so that was good. especially in this town. That's good.
Starting point is 00:04:32 All right. Let's get to this movie, a brand new one for us, uh, 2021's boss level. I believe this is a Hulu exclusive. They throw on the Hulu original, but I think it's one of those that they, they bought and threw the Hulu name on there
Starting point is 00:04:52 because I think this was made last year. Hey, Jake. Can I get a large, bottle that buys you. You know what? Think it too large about this. How can you drink like that? I used to complain that every day felt the same.
Starting point is 00:05:07 And now every day is the same. Hey, Jay? I have died 144 times. And every day ends like this. But it doesn't matter. Not when you've lost everything you've loved. Venter. Man who's had me killed 150 times.
Starting point is 00:05:25 The power to rewrite history is mine. Heads up. I know everything that's gonna happen. I'm mean, Carjie! One thing that never changes? What's up, pretty boy? A bunch of assholes are killing me for reasons that remain a mystery. Finn and Guan Yin has done this.
Starting point is 00:05:47 And... Roy! Roy, can you hear me? We can't explain it right now, but I'm gonna need your help. Gemma? The only woman I've ever loved and who can stop this is still alive. I have to kept... I have to get killed.
Starting point is 00:06:02 All right, Roy. Over and over again. Until I'd save her. I need to learn how to fight with a sword. I would only have a day. I think we can get a lot done in a day. Someone's been the busiest little beaver. I'm starting the death loop because of you.
Starting point is 00:06:29 Exactly. Bring them all. I can do this all day. Let's see. Synopsis. A retired military operative finds himself in a never-ending time loop on the day of his death. Straightforward, Google. Let's go to IMDB.
Starting point is 00:07:10 A retired Special Forces officer stays in the same synopsis on IMDB. I think that might be a first for us. Same exact synopsis. Yeah. Are we going to spoil it as well? Um, it's new. It's like what last week? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:30 A couple weeks new. Yeah. This might be a short one for us because, uh, yeah, we might just stick spoiler-free review. It's, uh, very new. It came out on the March 5th, I believe. Yeah. Let's see. Uh, directed by Joe Carnahan.
Starting point is 00:07:49 Uh, people know him from, uh, films as, uh, the gray. NARC, smoking aces, and I think those are the movies he's acted in as a director. He's, oh, he also directed NARC and smoking aces, the A-Team. He's done some good movies, The Stars. Where's my list? Frank Grillo, Mel Gibson, Naomi Watts, Annabelle Wallace, Ken Jung, Will Saso, Selina Lowe, Meadow Williams Michelle, Yao
Starting point is 00:08:24 And I think there was a few other people in there Nez What did you think of boss level All right I didn't read into this I didn't know What it was about
Starting point is 00:08:38 All I saw was Frank Grillo And Mel Gibson were in it So I was on on board Frank Gil Grillo Usually doesn't let me down He let me down in that one movie We did was it ninjitsu or whatever that one was called
Starting point is 00:08:55 no jujitsu that one he was only in it for like seconds he was getting a paycheck yeah he was but this one I didn't know what to expect I just thought I mean looking at the poster you just figured it's gonna be shoot them up action film and that's exactly what this was but I didn't know it was gonna be a comedy as well because there was a lot of funny parts in this film.
Starting point is 00:09:24 And I guess if you watch the trailer, it does kind of spoil it. Plus, the synopsis says he's trapped in a never-ending time loop. So basically, this is Groundhogs a day over and over, be it Happy Death Day or what was that one? Edged? it's an edge of darkness was that one with tom cruise oh um shit like kill die repeat or something but oh edge of tomorrow yeah that one
Starting point is 00:09:59 so it's pretty much that uh frank grillo just wakes up in the same situation every single day and has to battle these assassins uh that come after them and then it just goes over and over and over but as the film goes on he's just trying to figure out why he's in this time loop and who's doing it. I mean,
Starting point is 00:10:22 but other than that, I thought all the action was cool. Tons and tons of CGI in this. And they actually did an all right job with it. But I thought when they became to hand-to-hand fighting, especially with, what was that one chick that was... Kept announcing her name after every kill.
Starting point is 00:10:46 Guan Yan or Guan Yan? He goes, Guan Yan. Yeah. My name is Guan Yin, and Guan Yin has done this or did this or something. I was laughing. That part I like this. Shit's about to get steel. I was a little disappointed on Michelle Yao.
Starting point is 00:11:07 I mean, I love her. I mean, the first movie I've ever seen her in was Super Cop with Jackie Chan. Oh, yeah. And I was just like, when is she coming in? And then she does come in for just a few minutes. But I was fine with it. I mean, she's aged well. She's still beautiful.
Starting point is 00:11:25 And I just wish they used her a little bit more. But Will Sesso, he's a comedian, isn't he? Yeah, I know mostly from, what was that, Mad TV? Yeah. So it was, because he played Curly in the Three Steges, which was terrible. but he was there was no
Starting point is 00:11:50 well there was some little comedic roles stuff that he had done but it wasn't he wasn't meant to be his wacky self he was um was he Mel Gibson's like right hand man yeah
Starting point is 00:12:03 um I guess you could say he was his right hand man he just kind of seemed like he was more head of security yeah I guess but I mean the film It just goes over and over and over
Starting point is 00:12:18 I mean a lot of the stuff we see over and over again But then as the film goes on They just shorten those scenes But as far as the Shoot Em Up part I loved it I mean I thought all the gunfire scenes Were awesome when they were fighting
Starting point is 00:12:33 Or even just the hand-to-hand stuff The sword fighting And there was tons of blood in this So I mean I really enjoyed this film I thought it was awesome. I had a really good time just watching it going, ooh, ah, and then laughing at the funny parts. And Mel Gibson, man, he's, is he just taking on all the bad guy rules now?
Starting point is 00:12:58 Well, other than Fat Man when he was a good guy, but. I mean, I guess these figures, a lot of people consider him a bad guy. Why don't I just get paid for it now? Yeah, because I liked him as a bad guy. And it was expendables three or two? Yeah, three. Van Dan was in the second one. But I thought he did a good job.
Starting point is 00:13:20 I mean, he's Mel Gibson, two-time Academy Award winner. So he did a good job. I mean, I liked it. Namu Watts, I didn't have any idea she was in this. It's always good to see her pop up in the thing. Annabelle, was it a Wallace or Willis? She looks so familiar. What was she in?
Starting point is 00:13:40 The Mummy, 2017. And is that the one with Tom Cruise? Yeah. I think she was the love interest in that one. I have to rewatch that one. I know the Zizo and I liked it and everyone else hated it. Yeah, I liked it. And I think that was the first time I was, everybody was against me on that show.
Starting point is 00:14:03 And we had a guest too. And they were like, because I don't, I know we're getting off track, but I don't really care about the original. I think the original is boring as shit. And I just, I had fun with the new one. All, all of those, uh, you know, sorry to say get off subject, but all those universal monster films are, are slow. I mean, but they are what they are. Uh, especially the invisible man.
Starting point is 00:14:30 That one was like, I can appreciate it for what it is and introducing the character. Is he a monster? No. But I was like, man, that one was really boring. I actually like that one. I like when he goes full asshole and he's just like, knocking down people kicking over baby strollers and everybody's like, what the hell's going on? But this movie was awesome, man.
Starting point is 00:14:53 I loved every minute of it. I watch this with my son. He likes Frank Grillo and shoot him up films. But what did you think of it? I love this film. Perfect mix of humor, violence. Not a big CGI guy, but I have to tell you, I wasn't, it didn't bother me in this. it kind of worked and Frank Grillo I just even if I know the movie's got going to be bad I'm always going to check out Frank Grillo I like him I really wish they didn't kill him off in the MCU because I think he should have stayed around longer um
Starting point is 00:15:34 Mel Gibson Michelle yeah you know they're collecting a paycheck but it's always good to see them um will sasso uh A little bit different role than I'm used to seeing him in, but he brought the funny when it came at the end. I'm not going to spoil it, but do I smell cinnamon muffin or cinnamon rolls? The part I liked was every time his day repeated himself, he woke up and there was a guy in his room with a machete. or in his apartment and do and it just starts from there i mean i think it went with over 200 times because it says um he's been living uh this uh time loop for like four months yeah but doesn't really know why or what's why this keeps happening he as it goes on he slowly figures out uh what's causing it um we won't go
Starting point is 00:16:43 go into what causes it, but it's got to do something with his, with his wife named Naomi Watts. And she works for Roy Pulver. Or no, I'm sorry, Colonel Clive Ventor, and that's Mel Gibson. So, but I assume they were just separated because he went and when the film opens up or every time it restarts, he's laying there with another woman. Yeah. Well, they, yeah, they had to have been separated for a while because they introduced. deuce a element.
Starting point is 00:17:15 I ain't going to spoil it, but that kind of makes it seem like he's been kind of just out of the picture for a while. Yeah, because he's also in this situation. He has a son.
Starting point is 00:17:33 What's his name? I think he was, what, 11? I didn't think he was that old. His name was a... Wasn't Joe. Was it? Is that?
Starting point is 00:17:52 It's got to be, whoa, it says Rio Grillo. Yeah. Was that, that might have been his actual son. Yeah, that's what I was,
Starting point is 00:18:01 I just caught that. So, uh, this seems to be his first, if that's, if that's him. I'm trying to find one of these pictures. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:12 That's him. Rio Grillo. That was Joe. I know. Well, right on. That's his, uh,
Starting point is 00:18:18 Frank Rillo, son. But what's his name? Chow? Not chow. Ken Jung. Dr. Ken. Yeah, I thought he was in it. I thought he would be in it a little bit more.
Starting point is 00:18:35 I mean, but every time he was in it, when they just keep reliving it over, he's funny. He's always funny. Everything he pops up in. I think out of, what was there like about? six or seven assassins I want to say there was
Starting point is 00:18:53 like eight or nine my favorite one was Kabum oh the little guy yeah a little dwarf guy I liked the the fake Frank Grillo
Starting point is 00:19:07 this one I mean this movie's got everything it means the violence the comedy the fighting and everything and I'm pretty sure a lot of this was just filmed in front of green screen because there's a scene when right in the beginning
Starting point is 00:19:27 well it plays it over and over and over after that guy tries to kill him in his apartment with a machete this helicopter shows up and this fool just hangs out of the side of the helicopter with one of those big Gatling gun just shoots it was it was a Rob Gondkowski from all that was him Okay. Super Bowl champ of Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Yep.
Starting point is 00:19:51 The former W.W.E. 24-7 champ. Did he win that bell last WrestleMania? Yeah. And you ever see that behind the scenes thing, how they wanted him to, like, fall off that platform or something? And I guess he didn't want to do it. And Vince was like, I'll do it. Look, it's easy.
Starting point is 00:20:14 And then he just falls backwards off of it. He just did he fall back or I thought he jumped forward and just smashed everyone I don't remember it was a year ago Speaking to WrestleMania man, they're selling tickets tomorrow Record recording this on Thursday night And I'm not sure Is it everyone gonna be shoulder to shoulder in there or is everyone gonna be spread out and cardboard cutouts? I Don't know well I guess we'll see when it happens
Starting point is 00:20:46 but um I mean this movie is fuck man we can't spoil it I mean it's it's way too new I mean it's on Hulu if you guys have Hulu you can definitely check it out
Starting point is 00:21:03 who was Rampage in this Rampage and Rashad Evans both former UFC champs they were the German twins the two guys together that I was always speaking German I don't remember them
Starting point is 00:21:20 yeah I think they had make makeup on or something um I'm clicking on the okay there's Rashad Evans I remember him it was bald guy trying to find a picture of rampage
Starting point is 00:21:39 I don't I don't remember uh who he was in this uh okay here it is well shit that is him all right okay I remember them now I was like, he's in this. So who's the other dude?
Starting point is 00:21:57 He's a fighter. Yeah, which is funny. They're in the movie together because when they were in the UFC, they had like beef with each other that they ended up being like coaches on the ultimate fighter against each other. But I guess since, no, Rashad's retired. So I guess everybody's all cool now.
Starting point is 00:22:17 I liked the, the two chicks that were. in the minivan or a car. Yeah, yeah. I like the driver. I thought she was badass. All the all the assassins that were in this that were chasing him, I thought they were all awesome and they were funny. But I mean, I wish, I guess they used them all because they had to pretty much repeat everything over.
Starting point is 00:22:49 I mean, he did this so much. He knew what was going to happen and who was going to come and show up. Kind of like Groundhogs Day. When Bill Murray did it so much, he knew when to turn, when to duck and all that. So I liked what was happening here. Oh, shit, that is. What's his nuts? Gruncowski.
Starting point is 00:23:12 I didn't even realize that was him. I'm looking at a picture of a – he was inside of the helicopter. Who was a company that Mel Gibson owned? It was Colonel Cliveventor, head of defense contractor for Dino Labs. All right, okay. That's where he was working. And he was running that.
Starting point is 00:23:42 Naomi Watts, Gemma Wells, Roy Pover, Frank Rillo, his that she was his wife um i had seen her in anything in a really long time i think i've seen her something recently um i guess we can't even say that or that would that would spoil uh what was causing it i mean yeah this this might just be a super duper short one because i mean but the movie is good if if you like just uh fun violence and everything. I don't think there was any nudity or anything in this, but the language when Frank Grillo kept getting killed over and over.
Starting point is 00:24:32 I mean, each one was bloodier and bloodier. I think another one that was a hell of funny was that one dude that rolled up on him, that redneck dude and shot him with the spear, a little spear through him and then just drew. rug him down the road. I thought that guy was awesome. But, yeah, I guess you can't really say too much. I mean, everybody in it was awesome.
Starting point is 00:25:00 All the assassins were badass every time they fought. And Mel Gibson, every time he was on the screen, he's just... Mel Gibson. But, yeah, I can't say much more without spoiling it. Yeah, I think... This will be a short one for us. Definitely everybody, you should already have Hulu. I mean, if you don't get it, there's a lot of great stuff on there.
Starting point is 00:25:28 The movie's fun. If you like violence and comedy and all that kind of stuff, hand-to-hand fights, guns, knives, swords, explosives, all kinds of bad guys. I think they all get their proper shine, some little bit. more than others but you know they're in there they're good they're fun frank grillo's in it and frank grillo was fucking ripped in this one yeah he was that's the only i will say this but i don't know if it's a spoiler or not but you can't be that fucking just jacked and you're fucking just lazy alcoholic i mean yeah that's true i mean because uh uh
Starting point is 00:26:18 What does it say right here? Roy Pohl were a retired Delta Force soldier. Oh, this was in Atlanta. I didn't know that. I thought it was Canada. Yeah, okay. That's who he was. But yeah, man, he was just drunk and partying and banging chicks.
Starting point is 00:26:36 And, yeah, when he took his shirt off, I was like, damn. I mean, if you know who Frank Grillo is, he's a fighter too, isn't he? Or does he just train? He trained because he was, he did that. show um what was it called kingdom or something i think it was an ms show oh okay but yeah he he he knows he knows some he knows some things um while i'm scrolling around um he's got another movie out as well with um john mclean uh Cosmic sin did you see that one yet no i'm going to it what's her names in it too uh Lana, my
Starting point is 00:27:19 WWE. CJ Perry? Yep. Lana. I don't know what happened to her accent. She's hot. I mean, no doubt about that.
Starting point is 00:27:31 It's no Russo no more. Her accent just disappeared. But I like that Russian accent. Well, I mean, basically, that's what wrestlers are. They are actors. I've said this before. I mean, that's how Rock was able to just slide right in there with his acting. I thought he,
Starting point is 00:27:54 when his earlier roles or even that first time he hosted Saturday Night Live, I thought he did a really good job. Yeah, well, what's his name doing the acting thing now? I mean, as far as character wise, Apollo Cruz. I don't really like him. I mean, I don't care for him either, but this is at least something because his character is what he was doing before
Starting point is 00:28:20 he was hell of fucking just blah he's a jobber I mean that's yeah but now I mean they're doing because his parents are actually from Nigeria so who's that Kurt Engel's son who's Kurt Angles's son oh his fake son
Starting point is 00:28:37 yeah shit I forgot I was thinking to Apollo Cruz but it's no it was shorty G's old tag team partner Shorty G shorty did he change his name back to Yeah
Starting point is 00:28:57 because that shit was stupid I didn't I like shorty G I didn't now he just goes by his regular name His partner was Jason Jordan Yeah all right okay Yeah I think he might I think I read somewhere he might have to retire
Starting point is 00:29:14 because of concussions or something? Yeah, getting slammed around too much. There's another jobber. I mean, it was just there. But yeah, everyone, boss level. One of my friends before I watched this, she had texted me and asked me if I'd seen it. I told her not yet, but we were going to do it for the show.
Starting point is 00:29:42 And she was like, oh, my God, it's awesome. I can't wait for you to see it. But yeah, I mean, she was right, man. This movie was fucking awesome. I mean, if you listen to E-society, we do our top 10 of the year. Right now, this is right on the list as far as just action. Because if you guys did listen to that show, all my movies were just action and senseless violence. And this slides right into what I like.
Starting point is 00:30:14 So you didn't have any Oscar winners in there? Um, no. Um, nobody watches those movies. I've got five down. So I got three more to go. There's only one man that I know that watches all of them.
Starting point is 00:30:35 Lance buddy, we love you. I'm going to, I usually watch all of them every year. I don't even remember what won last year Oh uh parasite And that was my that was my pick For it to win
Starting point is 00:30:51 I won't go into I already have my What I want to win right now But I won't go in that until we do our Oscar show Um But Yeah boss level Definitely uh you guys should all check it out Because it's an awesome film
Starting point is 00:31:08 Definitely Um What you guys coming next um not really sure uh i just dropped that anchor episode um i'm going out of the bay area i got to pick up some stuff from my son to bring back to my daughter's house so i'm not sure if we're going to be able to uh record any time uh this week speaking of that fuck man i need to email that dude i forgot the director and uh i'll ask him if he can do it next weekend because uh
Starting point is 00:31:44 I'm just not going to be around. Yeah. We do have some questions. We got a lot of questions. I kind of want to re-watch it again just to have a fresh take. But we're talking about go, don't go, everyone. If you guys listen to that bonus episode, we, yes, it was new, but we had to go into spoilers in that one. So, but, yeah, I mean, that's all we got coming.
Starting point is 00:32:17 Hopefully, a regular episode really soon, but not too sure at this point. All right. What do we got? Horror returns going back to another year in horror episode, 1985. We are doing the stuff and Silver Bullet. Are you joining us for that one? No, I'm going to be gone.
Starting point is 00:32:40 Okay. damn i was about to say i might need the backup on that one i kind of feel like i know i know where some sides are going but as far as uh action returns um uh we're going to do another new one but we're not going to run through it scene by scene we're going to talk about the differences between the original and the new one and that is zach sniders
Starting point is 00:33:10 Justice League. I was just about to bring that up. Which I've already watched it. I'm about halfway through. I think part four just started. Yeah. All I will say is the introduction to Wonder Woman when she's saving people was far better than Wonder Woman 1984.
Starting point is 00:33:36 I don't want to go. We'll save it. But yeah, I mean, I'm liking what I've seen. There's one thing that pisses me off about it. But other than that, what I've seen so far has been good. So I'll just leave it at that. But what do we got next? That's for the action returns.
Starting point is 00:34:07 And what are we doing? Stream fiends, King of New York. Yeah, we're doing now. So we're doing Justice League next week? Yeah. Okay. I was fucking, I'm tired of everyone. Yeah, King of New York is coming next for stream fiends.
Starting point is 00:34:28 Yep. And of course, we got some more bonus episodes, and they will be from now on, THR-E-S-P crossover bonus episodes. We got a lot. We got some more. I just check my inbox. We got a couple more today.
Starting point is 00:34:46 Yeah, I see those. I just, all right. I mean, everyone that sends us screeners, I mean, thank you. I mean, email is just filling up with stuff to watch, as well as trailers and announcements for new movies that are coming. These are all indie stuff, everyone. We're not big time yet to wear these big. blockbuster studios are sending
Starting point is 00:35:12 and so I wish but we're not that level yet we're getting there we're not boss level yet but yeah that that I think this is going to be it everyone thank you so much for listening do check out action returns
Starting point is 00:35:28 or not actual stream fiends as well as you guys are listening to action returns right now so but more more and more stuff coming from Brian and I so that's it All I can say is everyone just be safe out there and watch movies. So until next time, party on.
Starting point is 00:35:47 Yep. Everybody, make sure you just be good to each other and stay safe.
