The earth was created in six days.
So too, shall it be destroyed.
And on the seventh day, mankind will rest in peace.
I need some passion tonight.
Welcome back, everybody, to a brand new episode of the Action Returns.
I'm your host, Brian, and with me to hopefully put a fatality on this.
God awful movie.
My brother
Nez, what's up, man?
Mortal Kombat
Inolation.
Well, I'm all right.
The movie wasn't.
If I'm all right after watching it.
I'm not either.
I'm like,
come on.
I was looking at my phone
and started cutting my fingernails.
James Remar.
is not, he's not in the Hall of Fame.
In the Hall of Shame for this one.
There's a couple of boobies here.
He's not headed in the right direction.
Well, man, you got to work.
You take whatever's handed to you, get that money.
So, all righty,
Mortal Kombat.
Every generation,
an ancient gateway opens.
that links the earth
with another world.
The ultimate evil has been released.
Now, the fate of our planet
is about to be decided.
Fighting for our...
1997, directed by John R. Leonetti.
Every generation
a portal opens up between the outworld
and Earth. Emperor Shao Khan,
ruler of the mythical
outer world pounces
the moment
the portal opens
and slips through
with his mighty warriors
intent on total domination
and
until into the
two worlds.
However, he is only
however he has
only seven days to complete his
task. In the meantime
opposition grows in
warrior Sonia Blade, Jack
Katana and Lou King
Get Ready for War
All right
I was a long
It was a long synopsis about
Nothing
Yeah
I don't remember any that happened in the movie
But all right
I am to be a group of martial art warriors
I have only six days
To save the earth from an extra
dimensional invasion
There you go
Yeah, that sounds a little bit better.
All right.
This stars a ton of people.
I only see.
There's only one, I think, two people that actually returned from the first film.
Cast or actor-wise.
Robin Shows, Lou Kang.
Oh, well, three.
I'm sorry.
I forgot about her.
She didn't do nothing in the first one.
Talisa Soto.
She's Katana.
Barely did anything.
in this one. Well, she did more than this one than she did in the last,
really she fought a little bit.
Man, we'll just hold on a second. She,
her first scene in the movie when everybody's invading, like she's doing this
thing where she's, I guess it's her fighting stance, but it just looks like she doesn't
know where to put her hands. I don't know. I don't know who was helping them with
the choreography, but they obviously dropped the ball on her. Or maybe,
she just wasn't listening too hard to put her own spice on it but uh action returns a hall of
famer uh the one and only james remar as raiden replacing uh christopher lambert from the first film
um another replacement sandra hess she's a sonia blade um really quick this film takes starts
right where the first one ended so i mean other than
and replace an actress.
I guess Sony had time to
cut her hair.
Oh, yeah.
Before the next fight.
All right.
Lynn Red Williams is Jacks.
Ooh.
He had some cool one-liners,
what's, yeah.
Brian Thompson,
Shao Khan.
You guys might remember him as,
um,
what's his name of Cobra?
I just remember him as the night slasher.
Yeah, and
I think that
I mean, he's been in a ton of movies.
I think that's the only movie
Cobra that we've covered
with him in it.
All right.
Rine here.
Ooh.
Good luck.
Shoshuan.
I'll take that.
Shinnock.
All right.
Museta,
Vader,
Sondell.
Oh.
Rino.
You.
We'll die.
Oh, fuck.
You know,
Pabbity as Jade.
Dionne McRide is
Marado.
Is that, or Motorola?
Mortaro, I think.
Yeah, he's the
centaur or whatever, half horse
guy.
Amar Jean Holden as Shiva.
Gary Davis,
a.k.a. Lightfoot as
Night Wolf.
Chris Conrad is Johnny Cage.
they did Johnny dirty in this one.
It's not even the same guy.
No.
John Medellin as Airmac.
J.J. Perry as Syracs, Scorpion.
That new, Bernab, Sabat,
Takanan.
He was Baraka.
I don't know.
Yeah.
We'll get to that one, too.
Yeah.
And a bunch of other people.
people.
Ray Park was in this.
He played a Raptor and
Baraka,
when I guess when he was doing the flips and everything.
But okay,
Ed Boone, a scorpion.
Well, no, he did the voice.
Who was?
Oh,
JJ Perry was scorpion.
The guy that played
sub-zero,
where's he had on here?
He's not even listed, is he?
No, no, no, no,
he's right here.
He's cooked.
Yeah, he played reptile in the first film.
So, but then there's Ninja Warriors and a bunch of other people in this.
Shang-sung came back, but only like in the very beginning, like during flashbacks or something,
as well as Luke King's brother Chan, Steve-ho, he came as it comes back just for what they shot in the first film.
And Tony Jive was a stunt double for, what is it, Robin Chu, Show?
Oh, was he?
Yeah, like early, early Tony Jop.
But, Brian, what did you think of Mortal Kombat annihilation?
And when was the first time you seen this?
This I also saw in the theater.
I hated it then.
Fucking hate it even more now.
this movie is fucking stupid.
Oh my gosh.
Because I always, you know, back then I didn't really, you know,
dig deep into the movies like we do now.
I see why Christopher Lambert passed on this one.
I see why the, I don't know,
the name of the actor that played Johnny Cage also didn't like the script
and passed on this one.
I see that because this story is stupid.
It makes no sense.
I don't understand
Shao Khan is invading
Earth
with the help of his father
who is an elder god
but the two other elder gods have no
knowledge of this whatsoever which is
fucking weird
I don't buy James Remar
as raiding
it was completely
just two different
two different people
two different styles acting I mean
playing raiding
compared to Christopher Lambert
the way he played it.
I don't even know if I liked any of the
fight scenes really. I may be the Sonia Blade
fighting, um, what was his name?
In the, in the lab or whatever, the robot dude.
Oh, um, smoke.
Yeah.
Maybe that one was probably pretty good, but then
Jacks gets involved and he fucking does nothing with his
useless ass arms. I don't fucking
do anything.
Then they tried to shoehorn
like all these other characters in.
Like,
why did we need like three
Maracas?
I don't know. And the
fucking makeup. The special
effects on that was horrible.
The CGI has got awful because
yeah, they gave us
people's like
animalities in this, but they just
they're so bad.
They're so bad.
And I didn't understand what this.
Every time someone got defeated,
their little tattoo would just fly away.
I don't know.
If you thought the CGI was bad in the first one,
who?
Yeah,
they went the fucking wrong direction with this one.
I don't know.
I do like Brian Thompson.
I mean,
he was hamming it up in this one.
But,
yeah.
But I don't,
I don't know if I can really say I liked anything about this.
I do like Robin Showshoe.
I don't know how you pronounce it.
He's always cool.
He does his thing,
but this whole romantic relationship with Katana,
I don't know.
Stupid.
Whole movie's stupid.
Well, the budget for this one was $30 million and it boxed off as 51.3.
wasn't
an extra
20 million
but
it was what it was
I understand
why they did
it because the first one
was so good
but I wish they would have
thought about
what they were doing
I mean this
the story was just like
what the hell's actually
going on
other than they're trying
to save the
outer world
us the earth
realm
to
uh
completely
total complete total annihilation because they opened up these portals and it was sucking in
thing i i didn't get what's going to life out of me watching it i guess man it doesn't make sense
because they lost in mortal combat that i mean they that's what that's what uh lu keg said he said
that to raiden is like how is this happening and why is it happening he goes we won mortal
with combat. This should, we should be
good until another
10 years or however that many
years they said, but
I don't know. I
assume it was because
um
who was
uh, shout Khan's dad
um
I don't even remember.
Um,
it was it an air mac, was it?
No.
Um,
well,
whoever that
dude was um he brought back um what's her face uh katana's um mom um was a send out
yeah to talk about fucking overacting uh i liked how she looked but oh man i was like what
the hell you're going and then when she wasn't evil no more she just looked like a regular
old soccer mom or something.
Yeah.
I was like,
oh,
it's like you don't even look like you're from another dimension.
You look like you're a regular middle age woman from Earth.
Yeah,
I don't know what,
what was happening with all these people,
but.
Oh,
and they just fucking ruin Scorpion.
When he does,
when he,
when he kidnaps Katana and he's like,
sucker.
I was like,
no.
he didn't even do anything i mean
i did like the um
the fight with uh sub zero
but
it was just like what the
fuck is going on here i mean
they
i did like how sub zero looked
and they did kind of revamp
um scorpions
mask and everything so
I mean, that was
alright.
Shinuk was the name of
what the hell is his name?
Shaakhan's
dad.
Because the
Shinok guy, he was the one that
brought Sendell
back to life.
And I think because of that,
she was able to
have these
portals open.
I think.
I don't know.
But this movie
was just all over the place.
Because it starts off where the last one
ended. And then
this is when we're introduced to Shaal Khan.
I assume that was him at the end of
the first
Mortal Kombat movie. I thought it was the emperor.
But
Shaq Khan
I guess they weren't
ethnically correct
I'm pretty sure
Shao Khan was an Asian gentleman
but all right
let's get the night slasher to do it
I mean that's all I see him as
he's been in a ton of movies
and he's getting whatever he does
but night slasher is all
I see every time I see him
so we're introduced to him and
raining ninjas
yeah the clouds are all
and ninjas are falling out of the sky
I assume that was a portal
he comes down and explains
all right this is what I'm going to do I'm going to kill all you
and then we're going to rule the earth realm
and then we kind of get a little fight
between uh raiden and it shall come
which is terrible.
Well,
James Remar, man, I love you, man.
You're always good, but man, he,
he,
I mean,
the editors or whatever, I mean,
you can clearly see that wasn't James Raymore
every time he got into some kind of action.
They didn't even try to hide
the actor's face.
And you can clearly see it was a much younger gentleman.
Well, yeah, at least Shao Khan can put the mask on.
Well, he did in the beginning.
He took it off later, but.
Never put it back on.
Uh-uh.
I was like, oh, my God.
I mean, all right.
So they kind of get into that and Shao Khan takes off.
And then that's when they kind of feel, all right, well, we got to do it again.
This time it wasn't, there was no turn.
tournament, it was just titled Moral Combat.
So,
so now they got to protect the world,
protect the world from Shao Khan and his reigning ban and ninjas and all these people that he brought in.
Yeah,
I like it.
It said it,
they had six days,
but this seemed like it took place in one night.
Yeah,
I really couldn't tell because once they went back to the,
to the outer world,
outworld,
I was like, well, what happened?
I mean, well, yeah, was this like in one day or a matter of hours?
But, well, I don't know.
So, Radin kind of told them, I was like, all right, look, we got to go into the outer world to fight them.
And stop everything and figure out how we're going to close these portals.
Because, yeah, Katana showed up too when she was there with Shao Khan and everything.
And not Katana.
um,
Sondell showed up.
But Katana was the one that saw her like mother and whatever.
Because I,
did they even explain or say anything on how Sindel
who killed her or what or?
No.
All right.
We're supposed to just go with it.
Yeah.
So yeah,
Rayden tells them,
all right,
we got to go in there and this is what we got to do.
but when we get in there, each of you are going to have your own kind of type of mission.
So they end up going into the outworld.
And this is when, um, this is when sub zero shows up or no, um,
oh, when they split up in them stupid two ball things that travel through the earth.
Oh, yeah, they got there first.
Um, and these balls, these magic rolling balls are going to take them.
Yeah.
Take him to hell.
I don't know where.
Yeah, Lou King has to go search out Knight Wolf, which he's not really searching for him because you don't find him.
He finds you.
And Sonia is supposed to go get Jacks, even though she said she's not going to because she doesn't want to bring him into this.
She goes and gets him anyways.
All right.
Yeah, so that's what she was supposed to do.
And, um,
Raiden told Luke Kang to go,
go to the Hopi Mesa's and look for Night Wolf.
All righty.
Pretty much all you know, I, I am Native American.
My nation, I represent the Navajo Nation.
Deneta.
And this, this guy, um,
uh, Night Wolf,
aka Gray.
cloud or something, whatever
his real name was in the
game wise.
But he was
supposedly
Matoka
from the Matoka tribe.
And I'm like,
okay, that's more
east.
Why is he going to
the southwest?
Either in Arizona
or New Mexico or in that area.
to the Hopi Mesa
to look for
this
native that
should be
on the other side
of the country
but okay
sounds like
somebody didn't do
their research
I'm like okay
but
Gary Davis
aka Lightfoot
back in my musical days
when I was in this hip-hop
group
we actually opened up for him
And he was cool.
If you guys have seen him in that movie,
well, he's been in a shit ton of movies.
But an Indian in the cupboard.
He was Little Bear.
I think that's what his name was in that.
I loved the Night Wolf when he first appeared in the games.
I believe it was Mortal Kombat 3.
And that was my character.
Other than Scorpions, my man, but again, native.
I'm like, hell yeah.
I got to be him.
he does what he does in the game.
They kind of
not had him in a few of the games
and then he came back later in the later games.
I like his moves.
I really love the tomahawk thing,
the fiery tomahawk that whatever movie does
with that.
But this one, oh man.
Other than they slapped a wig on Lightfoot
and painted up his face.
He did look like,
how Night Wolf looked in the game
so I was cool with that but
this scene was kind of
dumb I was like
make no sense I mean
they talked for like a second
then he knocks him out and then
he's gone
okay this is what it says
Lou finds Night Wolf
who teaches him about the power of
animal
animal
animal
animality of formality
or form a shape shifting
which utilizes
the cast of strengths and abilities.
Did he teach him though?
No.
He knocked his ass out and then left him there.
More anything he showed him
because when
when Luke King is looking around
he's out walking in the desert
and then all of a sudden it just gets dark
and he's
in the background
you kind of see these
little
little um i can't remember what they call them um god damn it um well these these native things
and i'm like that's more uh a plains or eastern tribe thing and and then again we're in the
southwest so okay you know uh and night wolf comes in the cg i wolf or
I was like, oh my God.
I mean, it looked bad.
But I was like, okay, whatever.
And, okay, wait,
here's what it says.
To achieve the mindset needed to acquire this power,
Lou must pass three tests.
The first is a trial of self-esteem, courage, and focus.
The second comes in a form of temptation,
which manifests itself.
to the form of jade a mysterious warrior who attempts to seduce lou and offers her assistance
after he resists her advances okay time out so she was the one of the tests that
supposedly manifested but then later you find out that she was sent by shall con
okay so technically did he pass any i didn't know there was three tests
Well, he mentions it, but I...
Just go with it?
I guess.
I mean, they...
I think they're just more concentrated on everybody's looks than a story.
I was like, all right, whatever.
As Lou accepts Jades' offer and takes her with him to the Elder God's Temple,
where he and his friends are to meet Raiden.
The third test is never revealed.
Well, I guess the second one really was a...
either. But okay.
And that's pretty much all we see a night wolf.
Which is lame.
Okay. This, the things I was reading,
like on, when you, when you type in night wolf,
they're saying, oh, he's a mystical shaman.
All right. There is no such thing as a Native American shaman,
first of all.
um this is i don't know the what white people call uh call them that they call them that um
he was more of a uh well in my in my tribe um we have medicine men we don't call them
they're not priests or anything and they're definitely not shamans but what what you're saying
is hollywood needs to do better yeah well
they did a little big did a little good they at least got a native guy to be a native character so yeah
from from my point of view since we've been doing this we went from stephen lang to james
remar to a lot of misrepresentation in this movie come on hollywood well everyone it's it's early
Hollywood. I don't know. I don't know what to tell you. But I gave him that. I remember when this
movie first came out and me and my friends were talking about it, some other native guys.
We all said, well, at least they got an Indian guy to play the Native American character.
I mean, again, Night Wolf was awesome. Lifewood. He was a cool guy. I had no problems with him.
I hung out with him.
We actually hung out that night,
um,
Indian in the cupboard came out because we were going.
We met in Albuquerque at the airport.
Then we flew or we drove up to,
to the Navajo Res.
We were doing a show and, um,
where was it?
Chinley,
I believe, Chinley, Arizona on the Res.
At the Navajo Community College.
Uh,
Lightfoot was a head one was one of the headliners.
Um,
then it was us.
some other people.
I can't remember.
It was like a two-day thing.
We only played one night.
Well, excuse me.
So, but anyway.
I think I remember listening to his music, like in the late 90s.
I liked his earlier stuff.
I mean, his first album,
seen red, and then he did his second one.
I can't remember the name of him.
He kind of lost me a little bit, but I think he still does music.
But I know he's really into more of the tribal.
politics of his nation, which is good.
I mean, we need those positive role models in the native communities.
He does good.
He didn't just get money and party and be stupid with it.
So good for him.
Gary, if you're listening to Brother, man, I love you.
Keep it up.
Hollywood would do better.
Yeah, I didn't know his name was Gary until he told me.
I just knew him as Lightfoot.
But he said, yeah, my name is Gary Davis.
Okay, cool.
So, all right.
Lou and
Jade go hook up
with everyone
else, but let me go back
a little bit.
Sonia
went to pick up
Jacks.
When they got those little balls, they were
right in tone, look man, these
little things, they're going to take you to where
you need to be. So
that one took Lou Kang,
to
the Hopi Mases, and then
the other one took
Sonia to get
Jacks
and some lab in the middle of nowhere
yeah I didn't
get that but all right
I mean why did what
go ahead no I was going to say
I was going to say when we left
jacks he was outside that club
or no outside where the the
boat was when they got on to go to the
island yeah
but she knows where to go get him
because he's at his lab putting these stupid-ass arms on?
Well, I don't think she knew,
but they just said these balls will take you wherever you need to go.
So I assume the balls knew.
We need to back it up really quick,
all the way back to the beginning.
We forgot that at the very beginning of the film,
I mean, if you guys remember the end of the last one,
we got Lou Kang, Johnny Cage, and Sonia and Raiden there.
When Shao Khan showed up, Johnny Cage kind of stepped up,
a totally different actor.
I can take care of it.
And Shao Khan kills him.
I was like,
that's it.
Well, I could see why the actor didn't want to come back.
If I'm only going to be in it for like a second and not do nothing,
I mean,
I don't want to be in this movie.
So,
but I was like,
really,
he's going to kill him of Johnny Cage?
At least let him go and maybe get killed towards the end or in the middle.
Not right from the get go.
but I just assumed that they needed to have all these other new characters we see
shine but I mean they could have gave Johnny Cage another fight scene with
somebody and then and then get killed but I don't know I thought that was dumb
man is dumb oh and uh did Sonia like Johnny Cage
according to the way she reacted when he died yeah
I didn't get well
they had that one scene I didn't like from the
first movie where he was
he's going to fight Goro because he was
telling her I can't I can't see anything
happened to you and I'm like
you've known each other for like hours
so
flashing back forward
Sonia goes to pick up
Jacks and he's
laying on the table on some science
lab and they put
these big
styrofoam looking silver arms on them
supposedly he's supposed to be metal
they did not look good and they were so
bulky I was like
I did like how his arms looked
in in the new movie but we'll
talk about that next week
I just laughed
I was like oh because
son, he was like, come on, man, you got to help me.
He was like, all right.
And he was trying to get up out of the table, but couldn't.
So he ended up busting, busting out.
And he was like, ooh, all right.
Now that's what I'm talking about with his big crazy arms.
I mean, he just, he had to ham it up.
Any, every chance he got.
And I was like, oh, my God.
And this is when smoke shows up.
I liked how he looked.
He kind of looked like.
how he did in the game.
Whoever that actor was, it was in
the costume.
I thought that was cool.
They did a lot of
fighting. I mean, this is when
Sonia got to shine.
She at least did more
than just a couple of kicks
and strangled you with
their feet or something. But
she was getting her ass whooped, but she was
handling her own. So I thought that was cool.
and then who did jack start fighting he started fighting him because then she started fighting the
random ninjas that was raining in from the sky oh that's right because yeah smoke came in
and then his whole crew of ninjas uh to follow him i'm i don't know where they're getting all these
ninjas but these ninja guys are garbage uh they all get they all get killed they're like
stormtroopers or the foot clan or whatever random guys you need to just die
hey you guys not fighting here put this on and come on so um i did like it they were at least
getting thrown all over the room sonia was and uh jacks was getting tossed all over the
place and uh how did they end up killing him well no he actually blew up but um yeah i think he did
like a self-destruct thing.
The Jackson is the one that started beating him up.
Yeah, after that, he started beating him up,
and then after that I think he did some kind of self-destruct thing,
and then they ran out and dove from the worst explosion,
CGI effect ever.
I mean, there was a lot of people jumping in the air
and would fly across the room and stuff like that.
Speaking of that, we're jumping ahead.
Um, when, uh, before everybody, before they are heroes all, was that before they went into the out, the outworld when they met, uh, when Scorpion came?
Or was that right when they got there?
That was before.
Okay.
That was in, uh, where, uh, uh, uh, uh, Lou King and Katana got out of the, got out of the ball, because they were.
where they needed to go, I guess, and Scorpion showed up.
And then, no, first the other robot dude showed up.
And they started fighting.
Yeah, they started fighting the other robot dude.
Then Sub-Zero showed up.
And then he revealed that he's the brother of the other one.
And then out of nowhere, Scorpion showed up.
And he had your favorite little spirit things with the
mouth and teeth but he had two of them this time oh my god i was
was all this happened in like five minutes yeah because yeah scorpion comes in and starts doing
that and fighting lu keang and katana and then sub zero comes flying in
he comes in and he takes his mask off and then they were kind of like hey man I thought
thought I killed you and then sub we all goes no that was my brother and
I mean all right this is this sub zero must be a shitty brother because if someone
that killed my brother I'd be after them to but I was like okay not to mention he
he came in like Iceman to on like a like a like a
ice lie or something.
Oh my God, dude.
The wire work in this was the
worst.
I mean, you couldn't
see the wires, but you knew they
were on it. And, uh,
I don't know, but yeah,
when Scorpion showed up and
he didn't do the get over here, come here.
He said something else.
Yeah, he said, sucker.
Yeah, I was like,
uh,
and
just like, stop talking,
Scorpions.
Just don't say anything.
thing. Oh my guy.
Sub-Zero, he only showed up with his mask for a second,
and then he took it off.
But he at least looked
like how Sub-Zero did, and I believe it was
the second game when he didn't have a mask.
He just had that red, I don't know if it was a scar
or whatever, over his eye.
But this sub-zero is just like his brother.
When he starts doing the
magic ice stuff,
he takes forever
and at least the
CGI was somewhat good
here
so but
our heroes
Leukang and Katana
were trying to cross this
little
endless pit I don't know
bottomless pit
but they couldn't get across
so subzero
he does his magic ice
and makes an ice bridge
and
um
okay
practical effects once the bridge is there
and then when
a sub-zero starts to cross
this is when
scorpion appears
his little things come flying up
and they look worse than they did in the first one
he
he does do the get over here
when it comes out of his hand
it's not well it's one
but then it splits off
off into two.
I did like how he looked.
Well, both of them. I liked how Sub Zero looked,
and I liked how Scorpion looked.
Their mask were totally different.
Was this the same Scorpion from the first film?
Or I don't know.
As far as actors, no.
But because Johnny Cage blew up that one.
I don't know.
I don't know, but then.
They didn't even question why Scorpion was back.
Yeah, I mean, they, well, they kind of did say, well, you don't really die in the outer world in mortal combat.
But, okay.
Well, they didn't, when we get to the new one, they kind of, they reference that.
And it kind of made sense.
Yeah, well.
But this one, it just.
Oh, man.
Yeah, because it's sub zero.
scorpion commenced the fighting they're fighting on the ice bridge i did like this fight scene i mean
it was cool to see them battling each other i mean we didn't get it in the in the first film
but after why these two are fighting the bridge starts to crack and fall apart
uh scorpion kind of falls under the thing and uh there's like an under bridge part and
then sub zero does a backflip and goes down on there and then they they commence
to whoop an ass.
All right.
They're really quick.
Sub Zero made that bridge so they can cross.
Because when they got to that point,
they're like, oh, man, how we can get across this?
Now that the bridge is gone and Scorpion and Sub Zero are fighting,
Lucaine jumps across.
It's not just a jump.
He does a flip for no reason.
I know.
I was like, why didn't you just do that to begin with?
Because if he can do it, I know she can do it.
Yeah, I mean, it didn't look that far.
Maybe if he got a running jump, but I don't know.
But still while, at least they focused more, during the scene, they did focus more in on Scorpion and Sub-Zero.
I did like the fight.
I did like the move when Sub-Zero jumps up and starts stomping Scorpion while he's in the air.
I don't know why
none of them did their
their moves
I wasn't
Scorpion is your subzero is just slow
to make bring on the freezing stuff
but Scorpion never did the
come here
during any of this fight so
but I don't know
all right
I'm watching this as I'm talking about it
okay
um
sub zero
as Scorpion is
still battling it out.
Scorpion kind of gets the upper hand and kicks
Sub Zero and he falls back and almost to the edge.
And if Sub Zero falls off, he'll fall into the burning lava river.
So
Sub Zero kind of just disappears in a crappy CGI melting
effect.
So he disappears.
Sub Zero still, oh, hanging on.
So Lou King does.
a flip
across to get to the other side.
I still don't understand why he didn't do that to begin with,
but all right.
Now you can clearly see he was on ropes.
Or so he lands on the other side,
helps Sub-Zero get up.
But if you notice,
sub-zero gets up without him grabbing his hand first.
Yeah.
And then he helps.
I was like, why did you just sit up in the first place?
Yeah.
I was like, oh my God.
So,
Sub Zero and Cano,
not Cano,
Lou Kang are on one side of the bridge.
Katana's on the other side.
Scorpion reappears,
grabs Katana,
and they go,
suckers,
and then jumps off the bridge,
but then a portal or something opens up,
and then it sucks him in Katana through it.
and from this point that's it that's all we see a scorpion yeah so i was like man what a jip so
could uh lu keang is kind of like oh man that's it man it's over with me and i i he's got a find
her but um sub zero to him said look man he goes you you can and you're not ready and he goes
you're not ready for what's to come but uh lu keang is like i i need her without her this
the out of the earth realm is is done for so so yeah um back to
that would that was just something we missed so going back to well during the during the in
between a lot of the scenes when they show shall con it was a lot of just talk talk talk and
that that's when his dad dialogue oh man and that's when his dad shows up and
trying to explain to him, yeah, you got to do this.
And we got to, we got to take over the Earth realm.
They should have just saved that for like closer to the end.
I was like, why did they reveal that his dad was helping him so early?
I don't know.
All right.
All right, what does this say right here?
Meanwhile, Raiden meets with the elder gods and ask them why Conn is allowed to break the
term or rules and force his way into the Earth realm.
and how he can be stopped.
The answers he receives are sparse and ambiguous.
One says the returning katana with her mother,
Sindel, is the key to breaking Khan's hold on the earth realm.
But another elder god insists that the defeat of Khan himself is a solution.
Raiden is then asked by the elder gods about his feelings and obligations towards the mortals
and what he would be willing to do to ensure their survival.
Okay.
Raiden seemed like he knew all the answers in the first film.
This one, he was like, I don't know what to do.
What do I have to do?
I was like, what happened, man?
Did you just get dumb and a matter of hours?
Yeah, it's night and day.
from the raiding from the first one and this one is just like he he doesn't know anything he
i don't know and it's just before he did it's like he knew what was going to happen before it
happened and this one he's just clueless yeah and then yeah after that is then that's when
lou finds a night wolf and uh does these tests that he never finishes the second much less the
third.
So
who was it?
I'm just reading this on Wikipedia and trying to remember it because it was just
so all over the place.
At the temple,
at the temple,
the earthworm warriors reunite with Raiden and they learned that
he has to sacrifice his immortality to freely fight
alongside them.
Did he really do that?
Because once he gets into the
to the outworld.
He has no powers.
So was one of his powers that he could fight?
And now he can't.
And now that he's mortal,
he has an haircut.
But was he really mortal?
Because he came like or just reappeared out of the sky.
And does a backflip.
Well,
okay.
He still had something left because you remember when they had to do.
Oh,
yeah.
get out of there when Sindel did her little scream thing and was just destroying mountain sides.
And he did his little whatever thing.
You open a portal.
I kissed the rest of his power.
Yeah,
because when they were standing in front of that big temple,
rock temple or whatever it was,
Shaqan and all his guys showed up.
I mean,
all right,
they're really quick.
Another nitpaker.
these guys are able to just zap themselves all over the place
why does Shaqan and his whole army
have to come riding up on their horses
why can't they just reappear
I mean earlier we had ninjas falling out of the sky
and so I don't know what's happening here
I mean I figured that in the earth in the outer
in the out world
they were able to do more than than what they could do
in the earth realm, but
I guess apparently it's
backwards.
I don't know.
So, yeah, that's when
they were going to go down there
and they were going to kill them.
Because they were saying, together, they
infiltrate outward to rescue Katana to
reunite her with Sindel
in hopes of restoring her soul
and closing the outward pole to earth.
All right.
Yeah, like you said,
Raiden, he still
had some kind of power because he was able to make
open up a portal so they all all of them can go
running through it.
Shit again and we missed the scene.
After Sonia
sorry everyone were jumbled all over the place
but after
Sonia found Jacks and they were out
walking wherever they were supposed to go to some temple
and Jack's talking shit the whole time
they were kind of in this little vows
of rocks or whatever and um who did sonya she started fighting um malina yeah malina shows up
which kind of i don't know why she's fighting malina they didn't even show her her mouth or
anything she was covered the whole time yeah i mean it kind of just turned into like a wrestling
mud match and uh did uh sonia killer yeah she killed her yeah she
she kicked her. Oh, that's right.
And she died.
And kicked her and yeah, she fell in the mud and that was it.
Yeah.
And from a kick.
Yeah.
Then there was some statue of something behind her as she's looking down and then all of a sudden it.
I don't know what it was, but oh my God, did it look bad?
Oh, this is when Jacks came in. He looked like he was like punching in the ass or something.
Yeah. I don't know what that thing was, but it, when it's,
Some kind of demon thing was going after Sonia and then Jacks comes in, hey, and then starts punching it.
Clearly you see he was standing there probably punching nothing, but it's, I don't know who did the CGI.
I always say this.
I don't know how to do any of that.
I'm just a guy behind a microphone talking shit and, and oh, fuck.
It looked horrible.
I mean
Reptile looked better than how this guy looked
And you guys all remember how bad we were cutting that up
But we're not
We're not to the bad CGI yet
Oh
So
So Jacks
Kills it or whatever
Because then that thing disappears
And then they go
Taking off
And then they meet up with
Raiden and Luke King and everybody
And they go through the
the portal.
Where did it go after that?
I don't even remember.
Once they went through the portal.
They went to the portal, went to Outworld.
And the first thing I can remember, I think,
I think Lou Kang fought, was it rain?
When he splits into like three people,
but he only really fights two and only really beats one.
rain which one was that
I don't know
I might be making up characters now
oh that was one that
it split into like three of them
but he never really fought three
was that the one that looked like reptile
yeah with the green and ninja suit
yeah and who's the one in the red
and who was the one in the purple
yeah
I don't know you're getting
they might be getting deep into the game
here because this is past my knowledge.
Yeah.
Someone was probably screaming at us, but
I mean, the fight scene was fine. I mean, it was cool.
I mean, I did like how they looked, but I was just
they were just pulling people out of their ass and just throwing them in this.
And yeah, and start fighting.
But Lou ended up defeating them.
It was only one, really.
Yeah.
I was like, where did the other two go?
I don't know.
They kept popping up here and there, but.
And I don't know.
Maybe it was all three of them that he killed, but,
or maybe you just needed to kill one and then the other two dropped out of it.
He killed the right one.
Yeah.
So.
And then somehow, Jade says she, I think she got the drop on, uh, Sendell.
And this is when they did the whole, I don't know, like trick, trap.
trap or something and they didn't really do anything.
Yeah, this was kind of when she, no,
Jade revealed that she was
working for Khan,
Shout Khan, to disrupt
the heroes that says here.
Where am I? Senda remains under
Kahn's control and
escapes during the ambush while
Jade reveals herself as a double agent
sent by Kahn to disrupt
the hero's plans before he
feeds jade to a gargoyle for her failure sure all right that didn't even look good
uh raiden then reveals that shall con and his shall con reveals that shall con reveals that
chow con is his brother and the former elder god chinook is his father i don't know if they
wanted everyone to go but i was like uh didn't happen here
No, I think I was doing this, I was kind of like just, oh my God, why are you guys trying to throw in some shocks in this?
Just we came here to see fighting.
Yeah, I'm just still blown away that the two other elder guys have no knowledge of anything going on.
Yeah, I don't know.
So, yeah, yeah, he realized that Chinook is.
supporting con with renewed purpose raiding and the earth earth room warriors make their way
through the final showdown with con and sundell and his remaining generals more
mataro and airmac which one was air mac was that the green the
the right one okay no all right um when did they when did they fight syracs um
I think he was the one.
I think smoke was the one that Luke King fought before Sub Zero showed up.
And Syrax was the, that was a yellow one.
Yeah.
Well, who was he fighting?
Was he fighting, um, uh, Jackson Sonia?
Yeah, in the lab.
Oh, I think that was, you know.
Yeah, I guess.
I mean, I do.
Listeners, we, we really did watch the movie.
This is just how bad the movie is.
Yeah, I mean, it was all over the place.
That's probably why we're all over the place.
But I did like the fight scene, though, with Syrax.
I thought it was good.
But you can clearly see, I guess he's supposed to be some kind of
cyborg robot fighter or something.
But the costumes look neat.
I mean, I loved how everybody looked.
But you can clearly see that the costume
were kind of
um
um
yeah kind of like
yeah kind of like foam
like how uh
jack's arm you can clearly see that
was some kind of
uh foam material
that that they had on there
um
because when sonia
it was either sonia or
or jacks grabbed the back of cyrax
uh she grabbed or
I think it was sonia grabbed the back
and was gonna do give him a flip
and you just saw that stuff
flex
yeah yeah
I know what you're talking about.
I was kind of like, oh, man.
Again, he looked neat.
And I do like Syrax in the game.
So, because, yeah, they threw him around.
And he and, I know smoke was the one that blew himself up.
Did Syracs blow up too?
Because I know he, they were shooting the missiles out of his chest.
I think both flew up.
Yeah.
I don't remember.
So that was the end of him.
And then the final fight was,
a um
Jack Sonia
Katana
um
Lukang
Raiden
and a Raiden actually
he got he had a fight scene
as well but
he
well again
he refused to kill his brother
and his brother
was like
I don't give a shit
I'll kill you and then he
I'm doing error quotes
killed Raiden
and
I don't even get that.
But that scene when Raiden was fighting,
again, you could clearly see it wasn't him.
But there was some close-up shots of James Ramar doing something.
But the majority of the whole fight scene was somebody else.
So you're saying that wasn't him doing them spin kicks?
No.
I mean, again, at least Radin did something in this one.
And the first one needed to do nothing,
but that's some snark.
your remarks and
show us his lightning.
That was about it
in that one.
But at least he was
at least kicking some ass
in this one.
But
the
um,
who was supposed to fight?
Raiden was supposed to fight.
Well,
I guess he kind of did,
but then,
uh,
uh,
Shao Khan killed him.
Mm-hmm.
It didn't even look like much.
He just shot him
with some kind of, was it like a green skull or something that came out of his face?
I don't know, man.
They were fighting for a second, but then Shao Khan kind of stepped back and shot some green
skull-looking thing and hit Raiden in the chest.
And then he-
Raiden's not immortal no more.
Yeah.
Or it says, Raiden refuses.
I guess they were telling me, I guess we were asking him to kill him, but he wouldn't.
He refuses and is killed by an energy blast.
from Shao Khan.
Sure.
Okay.
So, this is after a hard fight,
Jack Sonia and Katana emerged victorious over Khan's generals,
but Lou struggles with Khan and his,
how do you say this,
animality?
Animality.
Yeah, barely proves effective,
exposing a cut to Khan and that proves he is now mortal.
All right.
Okay, I remember what happened here.
Well, all right, go ahead, then.
Okay, this, this is this final fight with Lou, I guess, this is, for some reason, this is when the other two elder gods showed up.
And they, they made this fight, um, uh, they, I think they made Shao Khan mortal.
And so it would be a fair, fair fight.
And this is, of course, when the music kicked in and they started fighting.
because we
just completely skipped
over when they did their
animality
and
Lou Kang turned into a dragon
and
Shao Khan turned into
fucking
I don't know what
that was the
worst
CGI
this movie
and the
first one
you put them together
and try to pick
the worst
CGI out of it
it was this
moment right here
yeah
because
Lou and
Shao Khan are
beating the hell out of each other
and then
they
fall down
and
I don't know
spirit creatures or whatever
because it looked like
Shao Khan was about to break
Lou Kang's neck
and then Lou Kang's like
I'm watching it right now
Lou's eyes turn yellow and he's like, I can feel.
And then I guess Lou Kang was some kind of dragon thing with wings.
And all right.
But I did like the line because Jackson standing there.
Oh, now I've seen everything.
Were all his one-liner is funny?
No, but it was just funny.
they just kept doing it over and over.
So,
Shal Khan kind of steps back and he goes,
ah, impressive, you showed up,
or whatever he says.
And he goes, but he's not impressed.
So,
oh, my God.
The transformation from Shal Khan to
whatever this
four or five-headed dragon thing,
I don't know.
it's it's so bad it doesn't even look good I mean I don't know who greenlit the the
CGI I think at this point they probably just didn't give a shit I need to see I need to go
back and see what direct this director has done before but it's it's stupid I mean they
the Shaqan's
character or whatever he is
is just beating the hell out of
Luke Kang Dragon and
everyone else is just kind of standing around
watching these two fight and
I mean there's so much going on in this
scene I think there's like six heads or whatever
on Shao Khan's beast and
they end up falling off
they kind of fight for a little bit
and then they both end up falling off
of this temple or whatever
and then they're both laying there
and that's when they
turn back into themselves
and I'm like
I was like
what the hell's going on
but
right when they both kind of come to
um
Shanook or whatever
he was going to do something,
but the two other elder gods
showed up.
I guess Chinook was going to kill
Luke King because he, like, raised his hands,
getting ready to do whatever,
his magic, and those two elders
showed up and had to tell him
the slow his role.
Did they...
Okay.
They ended up saying kind of like the faith of the universe
should decide on how it should be.
Basically, it's got to be
a mortal combat
not the tournament, just
Lou Kang
and Shao Khan have to fight.
So that's when they look at each other
and then the music kicks
in, the mortal combat!
And then
other than they were fighting
this whole time, and
now they got to jump in the air and fight
each other and do all kinds of crazy flips.
And Lou
just
I like when they fight
but when they're flying around and doing the flips
and everything it just looks dumb
um
that's him
I mean he's actually out there
he's a real deal he's fighting but
dumbass
Shao Khan night slasher
hands up
like uh they
they do some fighting but then they get to
the choking match for a minute
we still didn't get Luke King doing the fireballs
figured okay we only got
more of a fireball flash in the first film hopefully
that's how you get in this we didn't even get it
we already got the bicycle kick in the first movie
we don't we don't get it in this
he turned into a dragon what else what else do you want
you could have just gave me
more fighting than
turning that stupid stuff
so Lou Kang
how he defeats
Shao Khan just kind of does a front flip
kicks him
in the face
he falls over backwards on the stairs
and then that little dragon tattoo
every time someone got defeated
his little dragon the little dragon tattoo
so
while he's screaming
the two elders are standing out with
Chinook and
it kind of reminded me like the forbidden zone
in the forbidden zone
what's the thing in Superman?
No, that's fantastic for.
It's not the forbidden zone.
God damn it.
We know listeners, you're yelling
to answer right now.
Yeah, whatever that is.
I mean, he kind of
gets phantom zone
there you go
some kind of thing
it looked like just squares really
and then he disappears
yeah it looked like the
the armor from doom
yeah a second except he
folded up and then disappeared
yeah so
that little dragon
comes off of Shaqon
and then disappears
and then so does
uh shall con he disappears then all of a sudden there's huge flashes and everything and then they're showing uh the world trade center
iful tower the the the golden gate bridge and there's lightning and louis looking around and then all of a sudden
there's a big flash and now they're back uh where they began and there's people all of a sudden
yeah all these shal and monks are there um sundale turns back into her normal self
uh,
Jacks and Sonia show up as well.
Oh yeah,
we forgot that,
uh,
who was it who pulled Jack's arm off?
Uh,
the horse guy.
Oh yeah.
That fight didn't even do anything.
None of their fights.
It was stupid.
Like,
Katana didn't really,
her and Sindell fought for like a second.
Uh,
Sonia fought the,
the one dude,
the red one.
The red one.
The red one.
red-looking scorpion guy.
I know somebody knows his name, but I don't.
She basically, she did the same thing, broke his neck with her legs.
And then Jacks was getting his ass kicked by the horse dude.
And he ripped one of his arms off, which was just not really his arms.
It was just coverings over his real arms.
But then I guess he found the strength to fight without him.
all right yeah so um there everyone's kind of like all right yeah we did it
but um raiden is just laying there dead still and
what would the fire and the water thing was that the the two elder gods or yeah
all right yeah they showed up and then they yeah it is the two elder gods
they bring
Raiden back to life
and
that's your movie
everybody's happy
and celebrating
yeah
um
okay
let me see
John R.
Leonetti
he directed a movie
that I don't like
and you like
2017's
wish upon
Oh, I like that movie.
He also directed the first Annabelle movie.
Yeah, I don't know yet.
And then he directed that horrible Netflix movie, The Silence, the one with the bat creatures.
Oh, yeah.
All right, let me see.
Let me just read his last two sentences.
They declare the fate of Earth shall be decided on Mortal Kombat.
Lou finally defeats Khan and Shinnook is ban.
is banished to the nether realm.
Earth realm avert's to its former state
and Kahn's holdover, Sindel,
finally broken. She reunites with Katana.
Raiden is revived by the other elder gods
who bestow upon him
his father's former position
with everything right in the universe.
Once again, the Earthworm warriors return home.
At the end.
This movie was all over the place
just like a review, but
oh man, this
one is just not
good at all.
Costing wise, I did like it.
Of course,
the Mortal Kombat theme is awesome.
I thought the music, the score
in the background was cool
every time they had somebody fighting.
Again, my favorite fight scene was right
in the beginning with Sub Zero and Scorpion.
I wish they would have brought them back.
I mean, they gave us all these other different colored red and green and purple and all that.
Reptile was the one that broke up into three.
But I don't know.
At least Syrac's and smoke got to shine a little bit.
I mean, they were cool, but I just, I don't know.
This movie was bad.
I mean, it was bad the first time I saw it and all the other times in between.
then and now
I was watching it at work
and one of my friends came walking by
what are you watching?
I said Mortal Kombat Annihilation
and walked away
as he should have
this movie
Of course we both have it in our libraries
I have two forms of it
The steel book and the regular go around
But I hate that it's in the steel book
It's like the
the bad side of it.
Yeah, I mean, we'll ever watch it?
Probably not.
I watch Mortal Kombat over and over.
I think this is the one that sealed its fate
to like not give us anymore.
Yeah, because I'm reading here,
Robin Schau, original Mortal Kombat
contract was a three-picture deal.
Okay.
But it just
it wasn't it wasn't good at all i mean i i i was just like oh my god
this this one was so bad um yeah mortal combat annihilation i mean i don't know what else to say
i mean those of you that have seen it i mean there there are people that do like this film
i would like to know who they are it is i just i just
It wasn't for us, boys and girls.
It was bad.
Nothing against everybody that was in it.
They just did what they could.
And yeah, I mean, that's it.
Because of this movie, Paul W.S. Anderson,
he said because of this is why he's never left a franchise.
Because he felt like if he would have stayed on the second movie,
would have been better.
All right.
I guess that was a Mortal Kombat
Annihilation, so
it's all, it's all
uphill from here.
I eventually want to get to
Mortal Kombat Legacy as well as
what's that
Sub 01?
Scorpion.
Scorpion, yeah. Scorpion's revenge.
Yeah, that one. I watch
those.
uh maybe on the next one i'll just kind of give you my thoughts on on both of them really quick
um um
um
it's yeah mortal combat in adelaidea's
that that's all we could say it's
we gave this movie too much time
we did but um
we had to but uh get ready for the
for the new one the 20 21 version of mortal combat
But yeah, for those of you that haven't seen any of these films, definitely watch the original one.
And obviously, if you listen to it, it was real cool.
Thank you.
But this one, if you're curious and you got nothing else to watch, if you have HBO Max, it is streaming on there.
Can you live the rest of your life without seeing this one?
Yeah, I think so.
Live a much happier life.
Yeah, but if you just wanted to see it, yeah, you can go for it.
Yeah, it is what it is.
I don't know if I'll ever watch it again.
My son wants to watch it.
If I'm home when he's watching it, then I'll sit down and laugh around with him.
But other than that, I can't put myself through that again.
Has he seen the new one?
Yeah.
He really loves the new one.
He's going to get a kick out of annihilation then.
He seen the first one, but he says he doesn't really remember it.
He was probably much younger.
So, I don't know.
Maybe I'll get his thoughts and see what he thinks after we watch the first one in this one.
Annihilation.
Yeah.
But, yeah, everyone, that's going to wrap it up this evening.
So, yeah, if you like it, you like it.
it but okay but as far as everything on the Skaternest Podcast Network
East Society we got a new episode out you can listen to I just dropped
episode 129 of the McNus podcast where I interview Oki podcast host Russell
Sun Eagle definitely check that interview out and Fight Society 5 is coming we
recording it, but then we had to stop.
So I might just finish it myself and put it out.
I don't know.
I've talked to my buddy first.
Yeah, other than that, nothing else over here.
Just more shows that are coming.
We always have ideas, so we're going to drop whatever, whatever comes out first over on
Skaternest Network as well as Anchor.
if you listen to our
Fight Society episodes
again
it's only going to be
on anchor
the Fight Society
and like I said
Fight Society
we did record one
I just got to finish the end
