Yes, hi, it's Bill Mosley, and you're listening to The Horror Returns.
Goodbye.
All right, everybody, welcome back to episode two, installment two, whatever you want to call it.
Brian and Lance's 31 Days of Horror, 2025, keeping it real.
I'm doing all 2025 movies.
Brian, what's your formula, man?
Movies that I've not seen before that are new to me.
Okay.
I got, most of them are 20-25, but I got some maybe like a year or two or three years old.
Okay.
So you're doing kind of a cherry pop.
It's all first timers, huh?
Yeah, because you know me weekly.
I watched a thousand things, so it's kind of hard to have all that year, this year stuff.
Yeah, because you're like your light,
ahead of me. By the time we get to October, you've already seen, you know, most of them as they're released. And,
and I don't, I don't get to do that all the time. So for me to find 20, 25 stuff has been relatively
easy so far. I'm not, I'm not sticking, well, we'll go into it, but I'm not sticking just with
like formula stuff, you know, like, uh, just a straight up horror movie. I've got a couple of,
horror adjacent, you might say, but I guess we'll talk about that. But, uh, all right, I've got a few of those.
do you okay cool i can't wait we left off at seven
all right you want me to start
absolutely man what you got all right my number eight
was
i guess came out last year but was
officially released this year
so i'm going to count it as 2025
um yep i saw advertisement
i think it was the trailers basically advertising
it as 2025 is the substance
okay
And it is a movie called Shell that stars Elizabeth Moss and Kate Hudson.
Wow.
It is no the substance by far.
Okay.
They're trying to ride those coattails, huh?
Yeah, it was advertising that and the body horror.
The body horror compared to the substance is very tame.
Pretty minimal.
Yeah.
The whole movie's very tame.
It's not a bad movie.
It's just, if you're trying to compare it to the substance, it's way down the line from the substance.
Elizabeth Moss kind of plays a struggling actress.
She has a, I don't know, psoriasis, is that what you call it?
Skin.
Yeah, I think skin condition or whatever.
Yeah.
Flaky skin.
Yeah, she gets referred to.
This cosmetic company that has helped people out losing weight and with their skin and stuff.
And it's founded by Kate Hudson's character.
She goes through the treatment.
She kind of gets connected with the right people, gets on a brand new TV show.
Life's going good.
But then she's starting to notice stuff happening within the people that surround her.
and stuff that's happening to her skin.
And that almost...
That almost sounds like a rip-off, dude.
Like, hey, the substance just came out.
How quick can we make a body horror movie about beauty?
Yeah.
I mean, it is different to the point where if they don't get whatever's happening to their skin fixed,
they change.
And what they change into is kind of crazy.
Huh, I might check it out, actually.
I mean, sounds interesting.
Was it entertaining?
It's quite a great cast.
Yeah, I would say it's worth a watch, but just don't.
If you're thinking it's going to be like the substance, don't.
It's the substance light.
That makes sense.
Okay.
Yeah, so that was my number eight.
I feel you on that.
All right, cool.
Number eight, so it's shell or the show?
Shell.
Is it streaming anywhere?
It is available to rent.
Gotcha.
Okay.
I might go look for that one.
Or I might wait until it's streaming on shutter or something.
But, all right.
So that's cool.
Number eight.
All right, my number eight, Brian, I had to do it.
Bambi, the Reckoning.
Pretty sure you've seen this one.
Yeah, I think I was a little disappointed with this one.
Yeah?
Would you?
I love the beginning.
I like the setup.
I thought it was going to be
a little more exciting that it was, man.
It got boring for me.
Yeah, I wanted a little bit more rampaging Bambi.
I like the story.
Well, spoiler.
It's technically not Bambi.
Right, right.
I liked how they set it up.
I just wanted the more rampaging deer action.
I did too.
And I don't really see how this connects to the overall twisted childhood universe.
Yeah, it's kind of a weird...
Why are these all British, dude?
Have you ever noticed every...
Even the fucking Popeye one is British.
It's all British actors.
What's...
Am I missing something here?
There's no American ones.
We're just behind on the trends, I guess.
Okay.
It could be.
I mean, seemed a little...
bizarre kind of off-putting but yeah I know it started off good I enjoyed the beginning I like the
even though it was you know pretty CGI-heavy I did like the design of the creature I thought it was
pretty cool and then and then it was kind of neat how they did they didn't have thumper per se but they
had like the killer rabbits you know kind of enjoyed that but the characters dude were just
milk toast you know like very boring
didn't care about any of them, didn't care about the mom, the kid, the other people involved.
And it was just, for me, the human actors let me down on this one, Brian.
Yeah, Peter Pan's still the bar, I think.
Seems like it, doesn't it?
I mean, it was a real story.
So, I don't know.
Bambi the Reckoning.
Watch it if you want to.
It's, I don't think it's streaming anywhere.
I think I rented this one.
So what you got, Brian?
Ryan, what's next?
Number nine for me is a new one from Joe Begos.
Oh, God.
Jimmy and Stiggs.
I will tell you now, Lance, you will not like this movie.
I can't think of one of his movies yet that I like.
You know, I mean, you had the...
But overall, it was kind of entertaining.
I was a little let down by the movie.
I do respect that he did.
everything himself.
Okay.
Right down to the puppets.
Because at the very end of the movie, there is a behind-the-scenes segment.
Because Eli Roth produced this one.
So he's kind of interviewing him.
Okay.
And he's kind of going through all the stuff, like all the animatronics that were in the movie,
they were all like made by him.
Like he was like, I needed to get this shot.
I needed this puppet to do this.
Right.
Because it's basically two guys in an apartment being attacked by aliens trying to be a,
they're trying to abduct them.
That's basically the movie.
And like with the puppets, if he needed the puppets to move like this,
he would take clothes hangers and whatever else he had to work with.
Okay.
So you do what you got to do.
Yeah, it was kind of impressive watching them behind the scenes.
And he's in the movie.
He's one of the two guys, Joe Begos.
Okay.
And you get two fake trailers before the movie,
kind of like Grindhouse.
Got the Grindhouse effect, huh?
Yeah, so that was cool.
But a little led down by the movie,
and I can't believe I'm going to say this,
but they swore too much.
It was like watching...
Oh, okay.
It was like watching a Rob Zombie movie on Crack.
Yes, I got that from a couple of the...
Begos movies as well.
Like just being nasty, just to be nasty, right?
Just saying fuck, just to say it.
Exactly.
In one sentence saying fuck like six times.
Yes, right.
Which, I mean, anybody's listening to our show.
No, we're not shy with the swear words,
but I just kind of felt like it was over the top.
and this probably has to be like
he's probably said fuck in this movie
more times than any of his other movies
so I don't necessarily know
if I can give it a full recommendation
if you're a fan of his movies
and you respect like
practical effects
and people just kind of doing
what they need to do because in the
behind the scenes
a little segment he said he
he sold his
super eight collection
to fund the movie.
Oh, for real?
So he just basically did everything himself.
Hmm.
So I do respect that.
So if you're into that kind of stuff
and you're into alien stuff,
check it out.
But I think this is probably,
I am a fan of his movies.
So this is probably on the lower end.
This is the lower end for me.
Just low, low budget on this one.
small cast is that the problem yeah it just i kind of wanted more with the story i didn't mind the low
budget or the only two people in the movie
that just the story was basic and didn't go anywhere okay it's just two guys
well it starts off with one guy he thinks he's been visited by aliens
he kind of makes a phone call to his friend that he fell out with
and then his friend shows up and then they get visited by the aliens
and the aliens are trying to abduct them
and that's basically the movie.
It's nothing you haven't seen before.
So Philip might like it then.
Yeah.
I think when we watched the trail,
I think he was kind of into it because of the alien stuff.
It sounds like the setup of Friday.
ride Barry, but with two people instead of one.
Yeah, and they don't leave...
I don't leave the apartment.
Okay.
Single set.
In the behind the scenes thing,
that's his actual apartment.
Okay.
I mean, there's probably YouTubers out there that are making
higher quality stuff.
All right, look, no offense.
I haven't seen it.
So, until I,
I've actually seen the film.
I really can't disparage it, right?
Just because I didn't like other films that this guy's done,
doesn't mean I won't like this one.
And we've got a very, very, incredibly close friend to the show.
In fact, a patron to our podcast who is related through marriage to this filmmaker.
So we, you know, I'll give it a shot.
I'll give it a shot for you, Jackie Boy.
I know.
Well, I won't say anything.
That's...
Yeah.
You might want to wait
Because I think
This one's also available to rent
But I think it's coming to shutter soon
Mm
All right
Yep
When it's on shutter
I will check it out
All right
Number nine for you
Dude I hate
I don't hate animation
I'm just not an animation guy
You know
Like I've tried
I've tried some of the
Star Wars animated series
reason. I know they tie into canon, right? So I really should watch them. So I know who the characters are
and their full arcs and all that. But I'm just not an animation guy, but dude, something about this
predator, killer of killers, just pulled me in. Animation was phenomenal. Characters were amazing.
You've got, they're not, they don't get cheap. It's kind of like that other movie I saw,
I saw this year, Monster Island, where I said, well, look, they could have gotten cheap. We're
like five minutes into meeting each other.
They're speaking the same language.
They do that in here too.
Everybody sticks with their actual language
and they have to learn how to communicate
and work together and fight together
in different ways.
And what I loved about this, Brian, was you've got,
I didn't know you were going to get that fourth
segment where they were all together,
fighting a common enemy.
Yeah, dude, this was amazing.
So basically, without to spoil too much,
because everybody should see it in its own Hulu, I think.
But yeah, Predator, Killer of Killers, the animated film.
You basically got a Viking, what would you call it, like a Viking warrior, Brian?
Yeah.
And, yeah, and that warrior manages to kill a predator, okay?
And then you fast forward to another era, and you've got a warrior that in that other era
manages to kill one of these things.
And then it happens again, but the other one kind of kills it by accident.
And you're thinking, wow, is this person really badass enough to hang with the samurai and the, you know, and the, what am I trying to say?
I was going to say zombie, not zombie, someone from the north, Viking.
Yeah.
Oh, man, I tried to edit that out.
That was a brain fart.
But the samurai and the Viking are both like totally badass, right?
Mm-hmm.
And you got this other character from World War II that just kind of stumbles into it.
but it's interesting how it all turns out.
This was an excellent movie, dude.
Animated or not, I loved every minute of it.
What did you think?
I loved it too, just expanding the universe.
I know people aren't really not 100% down on it,
but Predator Badlands.
They think it's too much CGI,
but I mean, it's going to be on different alien planets.
So I'm fine with it.
I love that they're expanding.
in the universe.
And I love, I think Dan Tractonburg is the one that's been in all these new
Predator movies, Prey, Killer of Killers, and also Badlands.
Sounds like they've just given him the reins, huh?
Yeah, I mean, so far he's two for two for me.
Oh, yeah, two for two big time, man.
I love, I love this one.
So, yeah, not really horror, but I think close enough.
All right. Number 10 for me, I will keep this one brief because this one I think is still in the theaters. I saw it in the theaters.
And it is Good Boy.
Oh, the dog. The dog movie. The dog movie. Everybody's talking about this, dude. Everybody's talking.
This dog was great. Yeah? And the more I found out, I know there were some people that were kind of like, even as was kind of like, I don't know about this movie.
I don't know if the dog was treated right.
Yes.
They went to painstaking links to make sure the dog was comfortable filming this movie.
I heard one scene actually took nine months to film because they made sure the dog not only did his scene correctly, but was comfortable and not scared doing his scene.
Oh, man, that's commendable.
That means a lot.
But, I mean, overall, the story is typical haunted house story.
but if you're a dog lover,
you have to watch this movie
because this dog was amazing.
Dog was a superhero, huh?
I think his name was Indy,
and that's also his real name in real life.
Indy!
Like Indiana Jones, huh?
Yeah.
He was great.
Everybody else was serviceable.
You know, it wasn't really about them.
It was about the dog.
I know you said you wish there was like
POV shots
from the dog's point of view, you do get that at times.
Okay.
So it's kind of a mixture of POV and a lot of his facial reactions,
which this dog just acting better than a lot of people that we usually see.
Sure.
Okay.
This is a 100% recommend.
And it's only an hour and 15.
Interesting.
Yeah, well, it probably, like you're saying, man,
if it took them that long to film, you know, some of the scenes, they, you know, they wouldn't
be able to capture, you know, enough to do, I wouldn't think, a three-hour movie. So it makes
sense. I think this one's still in the theater, but I know for sure Shutter has snatched it up,
so it'll be coming to Shutter here. I'm going to say before the end of the year.
Cool. All right. Well, yeah, that's, yeah, it's on my list, man. I just haven't made it to
the theater. If it's if it's still there this week, maybe I'll maybe I'll sneak in. I think we're
going to go see Black Phone 2 next, which starts tomorrow. Yeah. As we're recording.
Tonight, I think, in some places. Gotcha. Okay, cool. Yeah, that's uh, yeah, very encouraging
to hear you to hear you say that was a good one. I was a little worried. I know you'll, I think,
I think for sure that you'll like it. I'm a dog lover. I'm a dog owner. So,
you.
Mm-hmm.
We're about to get a new one, Brian.
Yeah.
You want mine?
Sure.
Yeah, I'll fly a...
Not Spirit Airlines, though.
Maybe Alaskan Airlines.
If I was to send you there, I wanted to make sure he got there.
That's right.
I have to have his ticket cancel without him knowing it.
Yeah, or us be fished out of the Atlantic or something.
right yeah all right you're number 10 number 10 I'm going a documentary
Brian okay this was called art attack the dissection of Terrifier 3 I've seen
this before I'll tell you this it's not we'll get to it with my next pick
but it's not like a super professional documentary you know what I mean like
when it's really organized and set up and you've got like second
that they talk about stuff and they go through the history.
There wasn't a lot of that.
It was just kind of like a lot of on-the-scene antics.
And it was a love letter, man, to Damien Leone and Art the Clown.
So it's just kind of cool how this dude continues to make these movies.
And everybody's fucking watching them.
So he gets bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger budgets.
But he won't sell out.
He won't hand over.
Leon will not hand over control to the,
studios, the executives, that type of thing.
So, man, mad respect for that, right?
He shouldn't.
He should keep, I mean, I know he's supposed to be ending the franchise with four, but, you know,
keep doing it yourself.
You know, you, you're part of the, you're one of the big reasons that it's gotten to,
to that point where it is now.
So just keep, keep doing it yourself.
Yeah, it's, uh, just, just a, just a bunch of friends.
from New York, Long Island.
And I think he's from Long Island,
most of the other actors from the original one are from that area.
And they all just kind of hung out.
You know, our boy David Howard Thornton did a lot of theater,
and then he got into some, I know he did some Joker parody stuff on his own.
And then I've seen one of them.
It's actually pretty good.
Is it?
Is it before Terrifier?
Did you do it before that?
I think the one I've seen was after.
Okay.
And he does a pretty good Joker.
Yeah, I can imagine.
Oh, that's the other, I want to go see that.
Is it called Screamboat, the one that's got him in it with the Mickey?
Oh, where he's making a Steamboat Willie?
Yes.
Yeah.
That's on Peacock now.
So I'm going to probably check that out this week.
But anyway, yes, fun documentary.
All right.
Number 11 for me is on Paramount Plus.
It released last week.
It stars Dakota Fanning and it is vicious.
Okay.
If you've seen the trailer, you pretty much got the premise of the movie.
She gets a box.
She has to do three things or else she'll die by a certain time.
And then the movie's just going along trying to see if she's going to able,
not only able to complete these tasks, but it's the,
The box is not only asking for her task, it's not being specific.
So she might think she's putting something into the box, but it's tricky here.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's decent for streaming.
I think if this was a theater movie, I would have been disappointed, but I think it was right for them to put it on Paramount Plus.
Sure.
Nothing really much to say about it.
It was pretty average.
but if you have Paramount Plus
and you're looking to watch something,
check it out.
Cool.
All right.
And that's vicious, huh?
Yeah.
All right.
So we're moving on my number,
yeah, number 11 now.
I went documentary again, Brian.
I was on a kick.
This is,
you've probably never heard of this film
because it never got made.
George A. Romero's Resident Evil.
Have you seen this, Doc?
I've seen it.
It's on my list.
I haven't seen it,
it's on my list.
Okay, so this is
one of those super professional
Uber polished type
documentaries, right? So, you
get a lot of information
in an hour and 28 minutes.
They give you the full history of
not only Resident Evil the video game,
but like all the games leading up to it.
Then they give you the full
history of like, you know, the programmers
and
they're, I guess like they had these
grandiose plans to
to make it into a movie.
But in Japan,
Resident Evil started out as like a different game
with a different name altogether
and said there was some confusion there.
And so there were a lot of, you know,
growing pains trying to get it to film.
And then they're like, well, who can we get to direct the movie?
Hey, George A. Romero, he did a lot of great zombie movies.
Resident Evil has, you know, quasi-zombies in it
as long as well as other characters, you know, other creatures.
So let's give it a shot.
And so it kind of takes you through the whole thing of, you know, the film that almost happened, if you know what I'm saying.
And then after that, they kind of compare and contrast what it would have been like if Romero had written and directed the movie like he planned to do.
He had written a whole script.
And then they just kept going and changing it over and over as studios and game companies are want to do, you know, the suits.
So, yeah, it's interesting, man.
if you want to learn all about a movie that maybe could have been a lot better had had this
dude made it than check it out it definitely would have been more gory and i don't i don't think
romero would have uh taken a lot of the same terms that the the filmmaker did who who made it
it was the guy who's married to millo jovovich right the i can't think of the guy's name they
they talk about it in the nests yes yes um but yeah yeah because he's got that real
commercial polish look.
Yeah.
And he kind of, yeah, he's got like the one scene, you know,
where all the lasers cut that person into cubes.
That was kind of gross.
But Romero probably would have had a different vision.
And you kind of get to see a glimpse of that here.
So it's an interesting documentary, man.
It's not a waste of an hour and a half.
Okay, cool.
Let's see.
Number 12 for me is an indie horror movie.
I think we reviewed the trailer a little while.
back and it's called Traumatica.
Yeah.
Okay.
I'm not even going to try to pronounce the director's name.
His first name is Pierre, and I can't pronounce his last name.
I've seen a few, I've seen one of his movies before and also one of his shorts.
I really dig his style of filmmaking.
And he, there's one actress in there.
Real, well, real quick, without spoiling anything, the movie is about this little
boy, he has night terrors and basically his night terror has become a little too real when he
finds out his mom might be possessed by a demon.
I think I remember.
Yeah, I remember us talking about this one.
Yeah, and it goes through themes of trauma and suicide and all kinds of stuff.
But this one actress, I'm trying to find her name real quick.
So it's called Traumatica.
Yeah.
Rebecca Kennedy.
she's been in a couple of things that he's done and I think she's fantastic.
I can't remember the one movie he had I seen the name of it,
but it had to do what witches.
She was a witch in that.
She was fantastic.
Okay.
And this one, she plays the mother.
I think we're going to hear her name in bigger movies soon.
Oh, man, I think I know the movie you're talking about.
is it the one where the little boy
sees the witch, but nobody
believes him? Yeah.
Let's see. Pierre.
Pierre...
I see what you mean.
What the fuck?
Cigarides.
Cigarides. Something like that.
No, it's...
Yeah, it's not the movie I was thinking of you.
I think the one you're talking about is two witches.
Two witches, yeah, I've seen that one.
Okay, so now we're way off base, but...
Two witches was good.
We'll just call on Pierre about that.
Yeah.
I do recommend this one.
Like I said, there are themes of trauma and suicidal gestures and stuff like that.
So be warned, but.
Trigger warning.
I just, I'm digging his style.
It's, uh, I think he's going to be something, something big here soon.
And Rebecca Kennedy, um, if I hear her pop up in another movie,
I'm going to watch it for her.
Yeah, sometimes I'll do that too, man.
Watch a movie just for, you know, a particular actor who's in it.
So I do understand where you're coming from.
Zazi Beats.
Yeah, for different reasons.
Dakota Johnson, you know, the list goes on.
Sal Mahiak.
All right.
You're number 12.
Number 12.
Okay.
So, you ever, you ever looked at a movie that was available and you were like, I don't know much about it, but all the, all the, all the reviews on IMDB are like ones and twos out of ten.
And yet you watch it anyway?
Yeah, plenty of times.
Yeah.
You ever heard of a little one called Night Carnage?
I've seen the poster.
The poster is nothing like the movie.
Those aren't even the same fucking characters.
This is ridiculous, dude.
Think of a Hallmark movie with, no, I can't even say with horror overtones because it doesn't even have horror overtones.
It's a, dude, it's a mess, man.
It's like, it's a vampire that is seducing women and bringing them home and sucking them home and sucking.
their blood every night.
Yet no one's onto this dude, even though he goes to the same restaurant bar,
which was obviously filmed in someone's garage,
where they just kind of threw up, you know, fake banners and drapes and stuff like that
and put a couple of tables in there.
And for some reason of this bar, you've got a piano player in one room,
and he's playing the piano, and you start hearing, you know, horns, like saxophone and stuff.
And then they walk into the next room.
They open the door, Brian.
walk into the next room, the actors,
and the fucking saxophone players
and they're playing saxophone.
This is lost boys?
I don't know. No.
I wish.
That would have been funner.
This, you know, just some, you know,
I don't know of some rando playing a sax.
So how you can hear that in the piano together
where in there are two separate rooms with a door between them,
you tell me, but all right, I'm off base here.
All right, so look, so it's that vampire da-da-da.
Obviously, a real good-looking guy, as the ladies would say,
kind of get that hallmark good looks to him,
that Chad Michael Murray-type thing going.
For some reason, also he has a British accent,
and everybody else in the movie has an American accent.
And then the owner of the bar restaurant
just happens to be the great, great-great-grandson
of a vampire killer.
So, so, so you think there's a big fight coming or something, right?
A showdown?
Never happens.
No, the story gets waylaid because this vampire dude falls in love with this chick.
She's head over heels with him.
And she's like, turning all these guys away.
And she's like, oh, no, you're not good enough.
And then she sees this dude and she's just like mesmerized.
Okay, let's say he's using his vampire hypnotism, right?
We'll give him that.
So she gets into the room with them, come to find out she's a fucking werewolf.
They start attacking each other.
I don't mind spoiling this.
Brian, the last scene of the movie is them both laying down together in the apartment of the vampire,
bloodied and cuts on them from fighting each other and embracing each other and say,
oh, I guess we were met for each other, dear.
Oh, yes.
And then soft music can fade out.
Hmm.
I don't get it.
So you don't recommend this one.
Brian, I kind of do.
It's one of those things you almost have to experience,
but not for any reasons that are really worthwhile,
just more like dirty reasons.
It's horrible.
Oh, and there's no nudity.
There should have been.
Oh, yeah.
I'm not watching it.
Yeah, it's not.
It's just bad, bad, bad, bad.
All right, card punched on night car.
Let's move on.
Number 13 for me is from 2025, and it is the fetus starring Bill Mosley.
Okay.
And everybody's new favorite final girl, Lauren Lavera, Sienna.
Really?
Yeah.
Oh, fuck.
I'm in.
I'll bet it's not great, though, huh?
It's not great, but she's pretty good in it.
but I kind of don't recommend this because the guy that
basically she gets pregnant and her kid is like a demon spawned demon seed
and there's a whole thing with the dad and the mom
that are involved and the
the boyfriend that got her pregnant
kind of takes me out of it because he's a fucking weenie
the entire fucking movie
okay
is he a skee
Delrich type?
No, he's
Scoot McNary
weenie kind of
Oh Scoop McNary
That's what I meant
I mix those two up all the time
Okay, you got your
You mix your skeet with your scoop
Yeah
That's right
But I would definitely say
100% watch it for Lauren Lavera
I love Lauren Lavera
I'm hoping big things
After the terrifier is over
and she does a little sexy time with her in there.
Hmm.
So.
And Bill Mosley, he's a horror legend.
Yes, absolutely.
All right, feed us.
Streaming anywhere?
Right.
Sorry.
Okay, rant.
Sorry, man, to cut you off.
All right, my next one is streaming.
I think it was on Shudder,
where I, it's, we're going through the long list of film.
that you and Phil caught in the theater that I didn't during the week we talked about it.
Now, the next one in this series is Clown and a Cornfield.
Oh, okay.
Fun movie, dude.
I really enjoyed it.
I didn't know if I was going to.
I loved the twist.
I love the...
I mean, it was kind of telegraphed, I guess, right, if you're paying attention.
But love the little town they were in.
I love the history.
They brought up all the history of the town and why things are the way.
they are.
You know, always got to love Kevin Durand, not Kevin Durant, you know.
So I had fun with it, dude.
Yeah.
I liked it.
I just wanted a little bit more violence in it than what we got.
You know, what we got was fine.
But I also thought the main girl was great.
Yeah.
Yeah, she was, she was funky.
She definitely had some spirit.
But yeah, not enough good kills, but it was made for a younger crowd, obviously.
You know, you can tell me.
Yeah, it's, I think a Y.A. novel?
Yes, that's right.
And I think they might have, do they have other novels in the series maybe?
They usually do.
I think so.
So we possibly could see another one.
I think this one did well enough.
I had fun with it, Brian.
I enjoyed it.
Number 14 is a found footage.
movie from
23
called Malibu
Horror Story
basically
some people go
into these mountains
or in the wilderness
they get lost
nobody knows what
happened to them
there's big conspiracy
you know
big police investigation
and this
film crew
thinks it's supernatural
and they want to go
investigate and they go
investigate and shit happens.
Typical found footage
movie. Nothing new.
Nothing you haven't seen.
Nobody in it that you recognize.
So,
it's pretty, it's not bad,
it's just basic,
which kind of makes it
not recommendable.
Yeah, doesn't stand out.
Yeah.
Gotcha.
That was my number 14.
Malibu Horror Story?
Yeah.
For rent, right?
Yeah, I don't know what the mountains and the wilderness have to do with Malibu.
I don't know, man.
I just keep thinking of that Saturday Night Live skit, the Californians.
Did you ever see that?
Yes.
They were all blonde and tan, and they were just look into the camera and go, oh, oh, dude.
That would have been more entertaining than this.
Yeah, probably.
All right.
Moving on.
Yeah.
Also on Shutter, Brian,
Knight of the Reaper.
What'd you think?
I know you saw it.
I like the retro look of it,
the tracking and the credits.
I like the throwback 80s aspect.
I thought the main girl did find.
The girl that goes missing in the beginning,
that is our carry for the carry series
for Mike Flanagan.
Really?
Okay.
And I liked the twist at the end.
I thought it was a pretty good little shutter flick.
So I liked the look of it.
I thought the acting was fine.
I,
to me,
the story was a little convoluted.
Got a little bit too twisty,
twisty,
but that's just me.
And part of it might be,
dude,
that I was watching it while I was on the airplane,
steaming about paying big bucks to fly.
I can't give it a fair shake.
It was fun.
It was a good look to it.
It's not going to end up on my top list,
but it definitely won't end up on my bottom list.
Let's say that.
Are we going on?
We're going to do one more.
We're going to stop at 15.
My number 15 is a supernatural horror movie
that I found on Amazon Prime came out this year,
and it's called The Dogs.
somebody on Facebook asked how was it so maybe we can answer them now huh it was it was mid at best
essentially this family this mother and daughter they're running from their abusive she's running
from her abusive husband they leave town come to this new town find a house to rent and of course
the house has spooky things going on in it that the kid the kid only notices and throughout him trying to figure out what's going on everybody thinks he's crazy and there's a ghost demon dogs that show up from time to time just how are they they explain why they originally there in the story but why are they there now makes no sense and they don't explain it
And it's more of drama than horror because he's trying to figure out what's going on.
Really?
He's trying to figure out the mystery of who died in that house and what's going on.
But at the same time, he's dealing with not having his dad around, which his mom's trying to protect him from because he's abusive.
And he's going through stuff at school because he's the new kid.
And he lives in that house.
And everybody knows about the house.
So he's also now the weird, spooky kid.
Hmm.
It's not a bad movie.
Sounds interesting.
If you got Prime, I recommend you checking it out.
If you have nothing else to watch, you definitely can find something better to watch.
Then the dogs.
It's not bad.
It's just, again, a common theme with a lot of movies I've watched this month.
Yes.
It's nothing I haven't seen before as far as story.
Okay. Fair enough. I'm going to check it out. Dude, it's on Prime. Is it a 20-25 movie?
Yes. I'm looking at it right here on IMDV. This is 2025.
There you go. All right. I'm going to check it out, dude. I'm sure others will too if it's on Prime.
So, yeah, that's a lot of what I like to do when we're doing these men is let people know, you know, if they don't want to necessarily throw down 10 bucks to go to the theater, right?
some of the things that they can stream.
And I'm a cheap skate.
I'm sticking with a lot more streaming stuff.
Even though we say skip it, don't watch it,
of course, check it out for yourself,
have your own opinion.
But like Lance said,
maybe you can not spend the money on a movie ticket
and just wait for it to come on streaming.
Maybe we can help you out that way.
Sure. Yeah, makes sense.
A lot of people are in that boat.
A lot of people just don't like to leave the house sometimes.
I mean, dude, I've got days, Brian, where I don't want to fucking go to the theater.
I mean, it's a much better experience, sensory-wise, but...
I don't like to go anywhere.
I don't even like to go to the grocery store.
I can understand.
I get that way for sure, man.
I definitely don't want to fly on spirit.
All right, number 15.
Yes, the previously mentioned.
Vicious, which is also streaming.
And I'm sorry, Paramount Plus?
Yes.
What was it?
Vicious?
Yeah.
Are you asking me?
Yeah, what is it streaming on?
Paramount Plus.
Paramount Plus.
Okay, there you go.
So look, dude, I'm with you, okay?
Completely.
If I'd go to the theater, I would have been pissed,
but it wasn't a bad movie.
The cinematography and the look
was pretty gorgeous, right?
Like it could have been a theater movie.
I don't really think Dakota Fanning's
going to ever be at that level of acting, though, dude,
that she's going to just like...
Bad for her.
She's a great actress, but she's just...
I don't know who her agent is
or what they got her doing,
but this and the watcher.
Yeah, I know.
That was the first thing that sprung to mind.
I did like the way the box played tricks,
and I also liked some of the kind of time loop elements that were in there.
Yeah.
I don't want to give too much away because it just came out.
But it's interesting.
It's worth the watch.
It's not super gory, but it is kind of mean-spirited, wouldn't you say?
Yeah, there are some violent moments, but like Lance said,
not gory or bloody, just kind of violent and sometimes mean-spirited.
depending on what the box is having her do.
Yeah, good description.
We're in agreement.
So, uh, all right.
That's Brian and Lance signing out for part two.
We'll catch you guys again in about a week.
Until then, stay spooky.
