All right, everybody, welcome back to another THR ESP bonus episode.
We're doing this one on a recent release called Paradise Cove.
But first, I'm your host, Brian.
With me as always is my brother Nez.
What's up, man?
Yo, man.
That was a bummer today.
We're recording this on the 22nd of April.
And shout out.
to shock G from digital underground aka Humpty hump man I don't know what's
happened DMX now shock G oh man come on 2021 slow down I know we all got
to go but these guys were still too young so shout out to all their family
yeah we we might have to do what's about call it for stream
fiends, uh, nothing but trouble.
That's right.
They were in that.
Oh man.
I have not seen that in hell long.
I think I found it on YouTube.
So we might have to, we might have to do that for shock and, uh, get a young
two parking there too.
That's right.
Huh.
Yeah.
She, I think I'd last time I saw that is when it was first came on HBO and I was hell
a year to go.
Ha ha.
Oh, okay. Yeah. New movie. New Esh movie. Paradise Cove.
Mr. Bennett. Hi. Hi. You're so lucky. You know, the fire was contained. There's no structural damage. It's got great bones.
Welcome to Malibu.
That is a $6 million view.
But what if we can't sell it right away?
We just stick to the plan.
So you're the guy that just moved into the house in Paradise Cove?
I'm the guy.
Have you met Bree yet?
Bree who?
Can't beat this view.
You can always put up no trespassing signs.
Does that work?
It depends on who you are.
But Bree is different.
What's the wife of big Hollywood producer doing, living under a house?
See, there's crazy, there's Malibu crazy, then there's Bree.
What are you doing?
You don't want to skim fund finishes.
It is Malibu, Tracy.
I can't wait to see her new window.
Guess again?
You can't make this go right.
This is a private beach.
You just, you can't live in a construction zone.
She's down there burning our money.
You thought you could bribe me to go.
Stay the hell away from us.
You can't count on anyone in this town.
How crazy.
Let's see if I can find a synopsis on Google.
A deranged.
homeless woman terrorizes a man and his wife as they try to
renovate his late mother's beach house in Malibu, California.
It's not bad.
See what IMDB.
A contractor and his wife moved to Malibu to flip his mother's
beach house and are terrorized by the deranged homeless lady
living under their house.

What did you think about this
Thriller
Paradise Cove
All right
First Todd Grinnell
I was looking at him
I was like where the hell
Have I seen this guy
So I had to rewind the beginning
Because it was
eating me
Yeah, and then I realized, I don't know if you watched one day at a time on Netflix, the new version.
Oh, yeah.
He plays Schneider.
I was like, that's where I see him.
And then I had to rewind it because I missed the beginning.
Mina Savari, what happened to her, man?
She was in the stages of being the new It Girl and then just disappeared.
And now, that's the indie movies.
Good to see she's still acting because I didn't even know she was acting anymore.
I think the last thing I've seen her in,
I don't want to say Day of the Dead.
Duh, the remake.
Might have to do that for 31.
Yeah, I was just thinking that.
Fucking Nick Cannon.
Oh, geez.
Yeah, I'm looking at her filmography.
I don't think I've seen any of these.
Well, I remember her a little bit.
She popped up in American Horror Story.
Yeah, she was popping, what, the late 90s, early 2000s, and just disappeared.
Yeah, because, I mean, the first thing I had seen her in was American Pie.
No, she was in the rage.
Oh, yeah, she was in the rage carry, too.
yeah
yeah spoilers she was the one that jumped out the roof right yeah uh go back to um
last year October well it was the very last one of 31 days of horror I ended up
finding it and then I watched it so and I did a bonus episode that was probably
a solo like 32 or 33 days of horror I don't remember but so the homie
Prude McKee, get shot in the nuts with a spear gun.
Yeah.
Oh, man.
Why that kid always got to be asshole.
He was asshole and,
uh,
uh,
Fast and Furious.
Uh,
the third one,
Tokyo drip.
I always took it as maybe he's not in real life and he just
wants to play one.
Uh,
I guess,
but,
or maybe he,
that's him and he can't act any different.
I don't know.
Kristen Bauer,
uh,
Van Stratton.
And it took me a minute to remember her too.
I was going, what the hell?
Because she hardly had any makeup on.
She was the homeless woman, Bree.
And I was saying, God damn it, where have I seen her?
Then she was in true blood.
And for you Seinfeld fans, she appeared in one episode.
I think her name was Gillian or Jillian.
Jillian, I think.
And she was manhands, if you guys have seen that.
If you guys seen that episode.
But she's been acting.
She's in a ton of things.
So,
all right.
So I knew all three of the main actors and everyone else.
Uh,
was all new to me.
But overall,
I was expecting a horror film.
But then when I was,
all right,
well,
obviously there's a budget.
I mean,
they got three known stars in this,
um,
And I didn't know what to expect.
I was kind of like, okay, all right, well, something's going to happen.
And then we find out there's a homeless lady, and I went,
okay, I see where this goes.
It took a little too long to figure out what the homeless woman's intentions were.
But I like it.
I was, all right, cool.
I liked it on what she was trying to do.
Um, me and Savari, she acts the same and everything.
So, I mean, she, she at least does her good job.
I like her and the things I see her in.
Uh, Schneider.
That's all I see everyone.
So that's what I'm calling him.
He was cool.
Um, I think they could have cut like maybe 10 minutes out of this, uh, but I mean, for
for what it was, would I watch it again?
Maybe not anytime soon, but I did like it.
I, when it was over, I was like, oh, cool.
but I had a little problem with the ending
because it just was like,
it just ended too fast.
I didn't get the ending.
I didn't either.
Did you stick around for the after-credit scene,
spoiler alert, everyone?
Yeah, uh,
the,
when they answer the door,
that,
that one.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I was like,
oh.
Okay.
I don't know if we're getting a part two or,
or what,
but,
um,
I thought it was cool.
I mean, I enjoyed it.
I mean, like I said, it was only out on 42 minutes.
It did fly by.
But, I mean, there could have been a couple scenes that could have took out of it.
But I thought everyone did their job.
My only problem with any of the main three actors was Schneider.
He played Knox Bennett.
I don't know, man.
I just seen him one day at a time.
So all I know him is from that for his comic role.
but he was trying to be a little too serious.
I don't want to say he went a little overboard in his seriousness,
but he kind of got on my nerves a little in this one.
Minasavari, she's just who she is and a concerned wife.
Was that his wife or his girlfriend?
I don't know.
Yeah.
I'm going to say because of them trying to do all these things together,
I'm assuming they're married.
All right.
Um, at Kristen Bauer, uh, Brie, manhands.
Um, I thought she was good.
I mean, there was a, yeah, they tried to make her look homeless and dirtier up and she didn't have that much makeup on, but I thought she still looked good.
Um, did you think that she had stuff? I mean, Bree had something on everybody because they all knew her.
Yeah, because of, um, uh, uh,
But we'll get into spoilers, but let's.
Okay.
Well, let me,
let me get on my initial thoughts.
And then we'll get the spoilers.
Um,
I didn't hate this movie,
but I didn't love it.
Um,
I thought Knox,
uh,
I thought he was,
I don't know.
It's just situations that happened in a movie.
I just,
I don't know,
like the,
the shower scene.
I was like,
you could,
you couldn't stop that from happening.
And it's just,
I don't know.
he just made a lot of stupid decisions throughout the movie and I kind of thought
Mina Savari she was kind of annoying she was just a I thought she might have had some kind of
mental problems and I think it was from those um the the drugs yeah she kept taking she was
taking these shots because she wanted to have a baby because I guess yeah well I don't know what
those shots do, but I guess I'm making it more fertile.
Now that you think about, I can see how that can stress you mentally.
Because I've heard people that have done that and it's not a nice little thing to go through.
Bree, I agree with you.
They did their best to try to, I guess, dirty her up.
And I don't know, she just kind of looked like a hot, older.
milf, homeless
woman.
So
everybody else
just kind of did what they did.
Like the guy Griff,
the contractor or whatever
he was, a construction
guy. He was,
I don't know,
getting high throughout the entire movie.
I don't know, man. He didn't have to
smoke a joint.
Yeah.
It did. It took a while to kind
reveal what her intentions was and then when it was revealed I don't know I was just kind of
confused on the ownership of the house and why nothing was really being done and I don't know
it just seemed like certain things were just being overlooked and it just added to my confusion
and I now that I'm thinking about it we might have to sound a spoiler alert because I
think we have to discuss it because it's just things things weren't coming together for me all
right everyone from here on uh it's spoilers but i mean overall i did enjoy the film brian did as well
so all right spoilers from here on out everyone uh what was your what was your questions
okay um first of all this guy wanted to bang this chick
Yeah, he did.
Because she's jerking them off in the shower.
She gets in the shower with him.
I don't know why I'm starting with this scene.
He thinks it's his wife and he turns around and he notices her.
He's all shocked, but she's still jerking him off.
And he just stands there with his hands in the air.
So clearly he wanted this to happen, which kind of makes him kind of shitty because he didn't really kind of seem like it was just kind of whatever.
after it was done.
He just went around with his business.
Constant stupid moves throughout the movie.
Like the thing with the money,
why would you hide the money in the kitchen drawer?
I would have kept that in my pocket that whole time.
Especially if you've got someone that's squatting
under the deck in the back
and you don't trust this person,
that's where you put that large amount of money.
I don't get it.
But the ownership of the,
house. I didn't understand.
Was it his mother's house or did she steal it from Brie?
Did the police know that it used to be her house? Is that why they're never doing anything
about anything or because it just seemed like, oh, it's Brie.
She's who she is. We'll just leave her alone.
Was Knox's mom messing around with Bree's husband?
I think that's what they, they neither said that or they employed.
Yeah, me
And then
Brie found out and
murdered her husband
So and her son was like a casualty of them fighting because
I think that's what made her go more insane
Because she
Murdered her ex Y or murder
Basically murdered her son
Probably didn't care about her ex-husband
But yeah, I think he was banging Knox's mom
And
I would have liked to have seen her or a picture of her
Unless I showed her I didn't see it
But
I think I think that's what what would happen
She Knox's mom was banging Bree's husband
And
But then again
If that was going on and Bree found out
That's what she she killed her husband
Did he
Did her husband do something to like here
I'm going to give you
the house or maybe
um
when Brie found out they separated
and then she just couldn't handle it anymore
and then she killed him so
uh if
Knox's mom was banging
Bree's husband
maybe
after he got caught and she probably
I assume she left
so or I don't know
but then maybe
uh
Her husband gave Knox's mom the house.
I don't know.
There wasn't really an explanation because I was thinking, well, if it was your house, why isn't it still your house?
I mean, I don't know.
But I could see why she went crazy.
My only problem with, she kept basically breaking into the house.
Yeah.
crawling up through an air vent.
I don't know how strong Brie was,
but that little shaft she crawled up
looked like it just went straight up.
And I don't know.
I assume she can Spider-Man it all the way up.
I don't know.
But how was, I was like, really?
So at first I thought she had the keys
because when she, when Tracy,
Mina Savari, when she came home,
Brie was sitting in the kitchen.
I think she in the beginning had a key, but gave it back to him.
That's right, because he changed the locks.
That's right.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, and another thing, her crawling up that little shaft and coming through the little air vent.
I'm like, is it like just no, nothing holding that thing closed?
So she can, she can just come in and out as she pleases.
So I was kind of like, wait, wait a minute.
But I don't know.
Just a nitpick.
But yeah, she was living under the house.
And when they found out that she was there, they were kind of just told her to leave.
But she wouldn't.
And then that's when all hell broke loose and what she was doing.
So that's the only one I can think of.
What do you think was the reasoning why it seemed like the police wasn't going to do shit?
That's why I asked me,
did she have something on everybody?
Because the real estate lady knew her,
the sheriff or whoever the police knew her.
And Griff,
construction guy.
Yeah,
he knew her.
I was kind of like,
so I don't know.
I mean,
I don't,
they didn't really explain that on how everybody knew her.
Or maybe,
well,
well,
like,
She was living there.
So I guess they could have all met her that way.
But because Griff,
he said he's been working on all those houses on that street.
So I don't know.
But yeah,
I just thought it was weird that,
I mean,
they couldn't get her from the damn property.
And I was,
now that you're thinking about it,
it would make more sense if,
she had something on everybody
because it just didn't seem like
it was a priority to get anybody
or to get her to leave.
I mean,
the closest they got was when she had
the one lady come from the
homeless shelter that had a room for her.
But even then,
I don't even think she has the authority
to just take her.
Yeah,
I mean,
I didn't understand how they couldn't just
get lost.
I mean, because when they tried to border
out, when they put that wood up there,
like, this is just going to make her do
other bad things if you try to keep her out.
So I was, I mean, I don't know.
I mean, if someone was living under my house
and I knew about it, man,
they wouldn't, as soon as I find out, that's it.
They're gone.
But he just, it's all right.
Well, we'll get to her when we can.
And yeah, his bad decision,
were just one after another because yeah I didn't I didn't understand the money thing just
yeah okay here's here's 10 grand but let me just stick it in the under the silverware
so I want to know did because the money disappeared so I was thinking did Bree
go just right in there and she knew where the money was so I don't know I don't know how
yeah that that's weird that what she just happened to be
going through the kitchen drawers and found the money or what and it was fast because he like just
put it in there so she obviously came in while they were still in the house but in in other rooms
and all that but it was i don't know i mean it was it was just weird there wasn't really
there was an explanation for brie but then there was more to her on they they didn't explain
any of that.
So
I think
when Knox's
fascination
started with Breed,
was it after he saw
her modeling pictures?
Or her little folder.
Yeah.
I think that's when
that's probably
why he let the shower thing go on
because that was after
he had looked through the
little folder
modeling pictures.
Because he even
Even Minasovari, Tracy, she, she went, you didn't even make your leave.
We go, I see you looking at her.
You were some hot, older lady.
So, I mean, homeless or not?
But, yeah, I think he, I think he wanted to.
Because at the very end, when we get to the final confrontation between Knox and Bree,
did she pull him in and kiss him, or did he just kiss her?
I kind of felt like maybe it was mutual.
I think he just wanted to get it in that one time before.
Yeah.
I mean, all the stuff she was doing, she seemed to be either the walls were paper thin and she could hear everything.
But, I mean, she did a lot on trying to stop them.
I mean, other than stealing the money and...
Oh, the thing with the dog.
I did not like that.
I didn't either.
dog did not deserve that they didn't need to show it either I was like weak and
um they're the renovated the re renovating the house but was they said that house was initially just
one bedroom one bath but what Knox and Tracy were trying to do was fix it all up at another
room at another bathroom and then flipped the house because they didn't want to live there
At times, the waves and everything seemed fake.
I mean, was it CG or not CG, but added?
There was a couple times when the background looked like it might have been added.
Yeah, I mean, because there was one scene when they were standing on the beach talking.
It didn't look right, but I don't know.
Might have been some, yeah, a little computer generated stuff added.
there.
The computer generated window didn't look good at all when Brie broke it.
And that was another thing.
They were standing there looking up into this new one new bay window.
They stuck in their bedroom.
And they didn't see her standing there.
Nope.
I don't know.
I mean,
go ahead.
Let me talk about this guy, Griff.
Okay.
She, she, she,
takes out one of his his workers uh you know pulls the ladder out from underneath him and he falls
and then when he's able to tell what happens he wants to go handle it himself instead of go why is
nobody i don't know maybe it just tells you something about the law enforcement
because maybe maybe he knew that they weren't going to do nothing about it because he could
easily went to the cops instead of going with her i mean was he
was he going to kill her?
Because he rolled in there with a shovel
Like he was going to hit her.
Yeah.
So, I mean, I don't know.
But, I mean,
Griff was trying to help
Knox because he,
him and his crew were fixing up the house.
And earlier, there was a scene
where they had to go to the permit office
to get a permit to,
to redo the house.
And they was just saying, no.
I mean, you can reinvent it,
renovate it, but it's got to be,
the original one bedroom one bath he goes here on these on their blueprints you guys got two two
bedrooms two bath and they go no that that that can happen i see i didn't i don't understand that
i mean it's your house why can't you do whatever you want with it i mean it was it was a right on the
beach so it was obviously in the millions on how much it costs i think they said six million
or something like that.
But I think that would be way more.
Plus living on the beach.
But I don't know.
I don't know any of that.
But I don't know.
It was just,
I was like,
okay.
Oh, anyway,
so Griff was,
Knox.
I'm looking out.
I'll just pay you cash.
And you guys can come do it for me.
So they can get out of doing the,
the permit.
I mean,
Griff didn't know,
knocks that well unless he already
did know him because
he could have easily, I mean, after
he found out that Brie killed or
hurt one of his workers,
he could have just went straight to the cops, but I understand
he didn't because he didn't want to bring
them there and
I don't know, maybe the building
instructors or inspectors.
I don't know. I mean, there was a lot of
bad decisions of plot holes.
I think that was after the fact, though,
because remember the, somebody had
called the,
inspector's account.
Well, we know who called.
Yeah.
Because they came.
Yeah.
But I don't know.
I mean, again, it felt like that Brie had something on everybody in that neighborhood.
Because nobody, I mean, even the neighbors next door.
They were weird.
Yeah.
They were calling Knox and Tracy the flippers.
And I was like, damn.
but yeah there there had to have been some sort of relationship there because they were they were when
uh brey actually got put in jail they were the ones that bailed her out yeah so i don't know what she
had on them because i'm like i ain't gonna go bail out some homeless lady but i don't know see i mean i think
that was one of the biggest plot holes i guess is
they didn't explain really how she knew everyone because everybody seemed like, oh, have you seen
Briette?
It seemed like they were afraid of her, but I don't know why.
But I don't know.
Yeah, I think the problem is there was too many twists and not enough explanation.
Yeah.
I mean, again, I mean, I did enjoy the film.
The ending was a little.
weird because
when we get the final fight between
Brie and Knox
it starts out
in
like in the sand
and then they fall into the water
I'm like how far did they go out
unless that beach just drops
and automatically becomes super deep
and I don't know
if you guys have been to the beach
but the water is not that clear
so it's
obviously they film that somewhere else
but all right
did he like just bang her head on the rock
and that was it and she died
yep
I
because it looks like she just kind of fell backwards
I mean you're in water so you can't get that much force
but or did she die
I don't know
I mean
I figured they did because when the movie
right before the movie ended
after a knock slammed her head
and blood was coming out
and she was just floating in the water
and he got out
there's a scene where we see Bree's son on the beach
and then she comes up,
sees him and hugs him,
and then kind of walks off and that's the end.
I mean,
how I took that scene was,
she was finally with her son again.
And so I assume she's dead.
But at the very,
very ending,
when at the end of the credits,
when they showed that little scene.
Was that the same house or were they in a new house?
I think that was the same house.
Unless they added bricks to the doorway.
I don't know.
I don't know.
Maybe all of our questions will be answered in Paradise Cope, too.
Well, that would suck, man.
The same house.
This is a different house and another, a different homeless.
I don't know.
But, I mean, I think this is as good as a one and done.
Yeah.
But, yeah, there was a lot of, like you said, there was a lot of twists and turns in it, but not all of it was explained.
So, but, I mean, nothing against any of the actors.
They did what they were, what was in the script.
And I thought all the main three, I thought they all did a good job.
But I don't know.
I mean, there was more to breed that, that we didn't, we didn't see.
yeah so i mean but i mean i did like her character and uh i liked what she did but in reality
could a homeless woman do that i i don't know but overall i mean i don't really know if it's
streaming anywhere yet but when it is i mean it's definitely worth a watch um it's not very long
um you can rent it on prime uh for three ninety nine or wait until one
streaming sites, most likely Amazon,
would put it on here.
Yeah, this just definitely seems like
it's going to be on Amazon.
Again, I wanted a horror movie.
I didn't watch no trailers or nothing.
I didn't even know what it was about.
I just,
they sent us a screen error and I just
click play.
But,
yeah, I mean, I would watch it again.
but just not anytime soon.
I mean, the movie was what it was.
Again, I think there was a way bigger budget
than some of the previous films we talked about.
But again, overall, I did like it.
I mean, it was what it was.
I mean, it wasn't
no kind of supernatural shit.
It was just her.
At first, I thought it was kind of,
kind of going to go like that
or I was thinking maybe
only they could see her
or something. I don't know because
there was something going on there.
Oh, the other part that kind of tripped me out is when they
first went in the house. So who
filled up the toilet with shit? Was that
because they
was that just from his mom? Because she went
nuts or was her squatters
in there? It's from Brie.
I don't know.
She crawled up there just the shit and didn't flush the
toilet. Yeah.
I don't know,
she must have been hovering
because that thing was above the seat.
I was like,
I'm surprised they didn't smell that
as soon as they walked in the house
because she walked closer to her
then went,
I don't know.
But I guess that's it.
I mean, there wasn't
much more to say.
Yeah, that's
Paradise Cove.
I believe
This one's from Quiver distribution.
And like Ness said, it is currently available to rent.
And I believe if anybody's waiting for it to be in anything streaming.
I would say not too long from when this is released, it'll probably end up somewhere.
Yeah, either Netflix or Amazon.
My money would be on Amazon.
I don't know.
But again, I mean, definitely check it out.
I mean, if we sell it to you.
Yeah, we do sound like, yeah, we're, we're bashing on it, but we're not.
I mean, I enjoyed it.
There wasn't a time where I was like, oh, what is this movie going to end?
I mean, I was stuck into what was going on.
So, but yeah, definitely check it out when you can rent it or wait until it comes out.
But, all right, everyone.
What's the next one we're doing?
the next one we are doing is death trip
I don't know what that's about
I think this one will be a little bit more on the horror side
all right
shout out to everyone
that are the people that sent this to us thank you
yes keeps sending them
so but really quick
wow the only thing East Society's got going
is a fight Society 4
