Starting point is 00:00:00 It's not what you're thinking. It's so much worse. The old state penitentiary is now closed to tourists after concerns of structural instability. Hey folks, big news for the skeptic and the scientist channel. I'm talking huge. Take a look. We are the last crew to film in the old historic prison. Conspiracy theorists, however, claim that ghostly sightings and increased paranormal activity are to blame for the closure. I don't think you're listening.
Starting point is 00:00:36 Did you hear that? You can hear you. There were hangings there. There were serial killers. Any deaths in here? Anyone of significance? The last group to get a permit to film here, huh? Yeah, we're pretty stoked.
Starting point is 00:00:49 Well, make sure you capture as much as you can before the sun sets. Everybody, welcome back to another THR ESP bonus episode. I'm your host, Brian. And of course, you know who's always with me, my brother, Nez. what's up man I'm good brother man just getting through all these
Starting point is 00:01:40 bonus episodes I mean I I always do this every episode every time we do it with these bonus ones I mean I got to thank everyone that sends us screeners
Starting point is 00:01:52 for us to reveal I mean it's I don't know when we're watching these things and it's for me is like it's kind of like a treat
Starting point is 00:02:04 Like, I get to see this before everyone else does. But this was something that this one came out a few months ago. But, uh, yeah, we're a little behind, but still appreciate it, though. Appreciate. Uh, just jump right into it. Um, this one, uh, again comes from, uh, Gravitous Ventures. Shout out to them. It's a 2021.
Starting point is 00:02:31 Paranormal Prison. Go to a synonymous. Nopsis here. A paranormal investigation YouTube channel is getting ready to shut down if they don't have a video that goes viral in time. In this last ditch attempt,
Starting point is 00:02:49 a long-time mystery is solved. The stars. Tom Harbin Corp. Paris Warner. Don Shanks. Corin Treadwell. Brian Treadwell. Brian
Starting point is 00:03:05 Tellis Tay Nick Frye Sarah C. Patterson and I believe that is all we have actually actually seen the movie. This is directed by Brian Jagger.
Starting point is 00:03:22 Let's see if we recognize anything he's done. Not that I know. No, I don't see anything that I at least recognize. This was written by Brian Jagger and Randall Reese
Starting point is 00:03:39 Nez what did you think about paranormal prison um the movie wasn't very long but it just took uh an hour to get going or
Starting point is 00:03:56 almost an hour for early I think I looked at the time I think it was like around 37 minutes in before uh something really started to happen the main guy the uh i believe he was the the lead um scientists i guess
Starting point is 00:04:14 the the skeptic yeah i he got on my nerves yeah i kind of felt like he was supposed to yeah i mean so he did his job man he did what he was supposed to do but i was just like he was bugging me and it was just a pretty boy because he did mention like yeah I got money to stile my hair or
Starting point is 00:04:38 I'm the face or something to that nature. I was like, oh my God. He was a, he was trust fund kid. Yeah, so it's just your little rich boy. So I was kind of like, eh, okay,
Starting point is 00:04:54 whatever. I liked everybody in it, especially the two, the two chicks, Sarah and Ashley. The camera guy, It's like everyone had gopros on their foreheads. The guy, the camera guy, Jacob, Brian Telestai or whatever, however he says last thing. Sorry about that.
Starting point is 00:05:18 But I like them. I thought they were good at what they were doing. Even the prison guard guy that was with him. He, I guess, was he like the comic relief? Because every now and then he throw in some little wisecracks. Yeah, I kind of felt like that. you know he was uh he was supposed to be the tour guy that that knew about all these stories that just didn't really believe in him so he was always kind of like fucking with people
Starting point is 00:05:47 yeah um what rating was this i assume it was pg it didn't now that you mentioned it i don't remember even really hearing anybody swear if they did it was like maybe one or two words but nothing I don't remember hearing any F bombs well maybe because they were supposed to be a YouTube channel maybe that's why they weren't really swearing okay um well obviously they were going into this prison because they were just wanted to do they were supposed to be the last uh documentary crew to go to be allowed in this prison before uh I guess they were going to tear it down it was um it was a museum wasn't it yeah they it was a prison in that was shut down years years and years ago that was turned into a museum which was
Starting point is 00:06:41 I'm assuming maybe not bringing in anybody and they felt it was more valuable building condominiums on yeah so they were just going to go in there and just film and see if they could get any kind of footage um was Ashley was the one she had some kind of little Ghostbuster box that she made it had a green light and a blue light The green light was to let it
Starting point is 00:07:13 I guess Humans were in there And then if the blue light came on It was saying that There was there If something was there Some kind of presence That blue light would come on
Starting point is 00:07:25 If humans weren't in there So Yeah science Yeah I can't remember what she called She called it some Long name but the thing this isn't anything new
Starting point is 00:07:40 something we've seen before about them just going in is it a found footage film no I think it was more because it was yeah they had the GoPro stuff and the camera that one Jacob was carrying around but there was times where it was like an actual
Starting point is 00:07:59 like movie camera that was filming it however they filmed it I thought it all looked good it was all clear even the GoPro stuff I thought all that was really good I was watching this with my headphones so the sound was really good
Starting point is 00:08:17 especially when you started hearing these voices in the background I thought that was really cool but the thing that bugged me was the every time they were switching cameras they like flash something really quick.
Starting point is 00:08:33 Not every single time, but there was kind of like trying to give you that subliminal image of something. And I was like, okay, it would have been alright if they just did it every now. And it kind of seemed like towards the end that we're doing it like every single time.
Starting point is 00:08:49 So you knew something was going to be there. But I mean, I liked the idea of them being in there. And they're just trying to see if something was in there. And then they come across something and then all hell breaks loose. But it seemed like this one, it just took a little too long. They spent too much time trying to lay the story down on what was going on in this prison. Because then once it got going at the end, the next thing you know, it was over. And I was like, oh, I kind of wish that they would have had a little more excitement.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Like maybe half of it explaining what they're trying to do and what's supposed to do. what's supposed to be going on in this prison and then the last half all the excitement and everything that was going on there was a few times that i had jumped uh in this but uh i think the last half of the film is what i liked uh once it once it got going and it got really exciting and uh like i said i jumped a couple times at some of the the jump scares but it just seemed like they spent too much time trying to explain what was happening before all the scares
Starting point is 00:10:01 and the actions and all that kicked in. So, but I mean, will I watch it again? Maybe if it was on something and I just happened to see it. Yeah, I probably would. But like again, it wasn't very long. It was only an hour and ten minutes.
Starting point is 00:10:17 But it just they, I wish there was more excitement in, and at from the middle maybe to the end. But overall, I did enjoy it. I didn't like hate it and I wasn't rolling my eyes. Well, there was a couple times I rolled my eyes.
Starting point is 00:10:36 But I'm trying to see who the, there was a Native American character in this. Yeah, that was Don Shanks. But it just has a mannequin. I mean, what they call it? wasn't it like man they had names
Starting point is 00:11:01 no I don't remember the names uh yeah he did there was a name for the Native American character in this I can't remember what his name was
Starting point is 00:11:18 but they it wasn't a mannequin yeah and I need to be they had him labeled as mannequin so but um uh i had this okay is this that guy in bronco billy
Starting point is 00:11:35 um let me see because this guy looks familiar as uh well he's played a bunch of oh remember when we did Revenge of the Ninja that one Indian that's him
Starting point is 00:11:55 he was Michael Myers in Halloween fire okay all right let me see I'm trying to see if this was a guy that was in Bronco Billy I don't I don't see I guess it wasn't him but all right he's done a ton of movies and he's been
Starting point is 00:12:19 native and everything so all right I'm just assuming that this this gentleman is a Native American. But, all right. I remember more in Revenge of the Ninja, which was hilarious. Damn, I want to watch that movie again. But anyway, okay, well, I was about to go off about saying,
Starting point is 00:12:44 I had mentioned this before. I can't remember if it was on this show or another show we did about. There's tons of Native American actors. I mean, even if to do something like this, I mean, you can always find one. Um, you're native in this. I mean, as a Native American, I don't like, I don't like that.
Starting point is 00:13:02 Yeah. No, no offense to Stephen Lang, but. Oh, no. Come on now. Yeah, I let Stephen Lang slide because I, I just like him as an actor. But yeah, uh, he was not native in band of the hand. And, uh, what was his name? Dexter's dad.
Starting point is 00:13:22 Oh, uh, Jane Reimar. Yeah. What's his name? Sam Star. Oh, my gosh. He also played a Native American guy in this movie called Win Walker. And how he looked in Longwriters is how he looked in that. I was like, oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:13:47 Speaking of James Reymour, I'm going to meet him in July at the Mad Monster Party convention. in Arizona. He's going to be there and I'm going to have to ask him. Come on, man. What are you doing? I know it was a role. All right, but, uh, all right. Okay, man, whatever. I still love him as an actor. He's, he's badass. But anyway, uh, Don Shanks. All right. He was native and he was portraying a Native American character in this. I did like that aspect. Um, like, I guess I would lead into spoilers, but, um, the, the story of the prison was there was a lady what was her name um she was like a serial killer
Starting point is 00:14:35 that's what they get saying i remember i don't remember her name i remember the story that she was she came from money yeah because uh i believe her father owned like one of the biggest construction companies at that time in that area and they described her as homely So whoever was marrying her was only marrying her for the money. And I guess the story goes, she killed, some people got killed. And I guess they were,
Starting point is 00:15:06 I think they were blaming the husband. And then she eventually just killed him off because he was waiting to get that money. And she found out. So I guess that's the story of her being in the prison. And I guess she was sentenced to, to be executed, which their little contraption to hang somebody in this movie, that's kind of, that's rough.
Starting point is 00:15:33 Yeah. That was, that was crazy. I mean, throughout the film, they were going to different parts of the prison, like to death row, and then they had a hanging room in this prison. So it was obviously one that was way, way back in the day. And then they went to,
Starting point is 00:15:54 to like the solitary confinement area. I mean, I don't know exactly where they filmed this. And it was a real prison. It didn't, I don't think it didn't look fake like they just made it. Yeah, it looked like somewhere I didn't want to be.
Starting point is 00:16:10 Yeah. Especially went into that, that solitary confinement room. It was like a little hallway. Mm-hmm. Because there was one time, one of those girls walked in and went, nope,
Starting point is 00:16:20 nope, and turned around and walked right back out. Oh man But I liked the idea of what they were doing there And the lead guy The skeptic Matthew Todd Harbricorn
Starting point is 00:16:36 Harbican however he says last name Again he did his part He did what he was supposed to do Because he got on my fucking nerves man I wanted to punch him Some rich pretty boy Yeah he was the typical rich guy the he was supposed to be the skeptic of the team and he definitely was because he didn't believe none of it until shit got real and then he he changed his tune real quick yeah which i did like that at the end when he did realize that something was happening there because he was like uh ruling his eyes and whatever i don't believe any of this this is all crap and uh
Starting point is 00:17:20 There's a scientific explanation for everything. Yeah, because he was, like we said, he was rich, so he was funding the whole project. And he was kind of like, oh, I'm wasting my money on all of this. And I was like, oh, man, somebody, somebody kill him. But so that was why they were there. They were there just to document this prison, to see if they, there was any kind of paranormal activity going on there. But when they got there is when they figured out more than what they bargained for,
Starting point is 00:17:59 of what was going on. What happened to this, to this, what happened in this prison. And I was like, oh, okay, I liked how it all wrapped up in the end.
Starting point is 00:18:11 I was like, all right, I can buy that. And I thought they, they did a really good job with the story. But it was just, I think they just kind of stressed it out a little too long. I mean, maybe this movie could have been an hour or maybe 45 minutes or something like less than an hour.
Starting point is 00:18:26 It could have been that. But I mean, but overall, like I said, I did enjoy it and I liked how they filmed it. And yeah, it's about all I can say. I don't want to jump into spoilers or anything. Yeah, I agree with you. I honestly wish they would have broke down the story. and the backstory of the characters within probably maybe, maybe a little bit less than 30 minutes,
Starting point is 00:18:55 and then just the rest of the movie, and all the paranormal stuff in the prison. But with that being said, I didn't have a problem with anybody in the movie. I thought it was filmed good. Is it a found footage? No, but if you're into that kind of movie, I think this will kind of be right up your alley.
Starting point is 00:19:16 If you're into found footage and you're into those paranormal investigator shows like on Discovery Channel, you'll probably dig this movie because this was pretty much like with the time length and episode of one of those shows. Yeah, I mean, it was, I thought it was going to be like that, like a documentary type of film. Like how, um,
Starting point is 00:19:41 was that one when they were in the hotel? Oh, Hell House. Yeah. I thought it was going to be something like that. But, you know, shut out Samantha Bean. Yeah. Yeah. But overall, I mean, if you like these type of films, I mean, I, yeah, definitely check this out. But I mean, the only negative thing I had to say about this film was it was just they didn't need to take that long to explain what was happening before everything kicked in.
Starting point is 00:20:13 Because once it kicked it, once it kicked in, they figured it all out and then the next thing, no, the movie was over. Yeah, because you broke down the backstory of what was going on to prison. Then each of the two main actresses, they both had like backstories to them. And for me personally, I think I enjoyed the movie. Don't get me wrong. But I think I would have enjoyed it a little bit more if you just kind of got that over with in the first opening of the movie. And from the rest on, as soon as they maybe 10 minutes after they got in the prison, and just shit just started happening from the get.
Starting point is 00:20:51 But like you said, we got little things here and there, which is fine. But I wish it would have just jumped off a little bit quicker. Yeah. It definitely would have been better for myself, as well as Brian here, if they fired off a little bit quicker
Starting point is 00:21:13 because they just hesitated a little bit too long. I mean, but nothing against anybody. in it. I thought everybody in it did their job. Everybody was good. But we're not going to go into spoilers because this is, this is new and it is making its rounds right now. But there was something or a character in this that I saw that coming right. Yeah. From the get from the get go. I got you. Yeah, I saw that coming and I was like, oh, okay. But I mean, it didn't, it didn't mess up the movie for me or anything.
Starting point is 00:21:48 Uh, if you do watch this and once the movie's over, give it a minute or two. There's a little mid credit. I see. Well, not even mid. Maybe like there was a small little extra scene during the credits. Yeah. So, but. All right.
Starting point is 00:22:06 That is paranormal prison. Um, on our next, let me pull up my list here on our next, uh, bonus episode. We are going to review the cursory. the curse of the blind dead so with that Nez you got anything to add here no but I do like the poster for this
Starting point is 00:22:29 for this film we always talking about that whoever did this this art design I thought it was really good at the very bottom it says paranormal prison there is no escape yeah don't don't go to no haunted prison being no skeptic
Starting point is 00:22:47 especially at night. Yeah, I mean, for me, I believe in all this stuff. Maybe some of you were laughing, but I only believe in it because I've seen and heard things. I mean, during, I wasn't out looking for them, but I just kind of came across some things that I cannot explain. And the reason I do believe in it, one of the occurrences, that I had witnessed, I wasn't the only one there. There was about another 50 other people that saw it, saw what I saw at that exact moment.
Starting point is 00:23:29 So that's all right, I believe in everything. But I wouldn't go into these places. There is an old abandoned hospital in the town that I live in. And my older two and their friends, they went in there and they heard things. I mean, maybe it was just them. trying to scare one another, but my daughter was like, ah, nah, that was a, that was a bad idea. Nope, I don't even like going into hospitals when they're open.
Starting point is 00:23:58 Yeah. I ain't going to know abandon one. No way. No, I'm good. But, yeah, definitely check out paranormal prison. And thanks again to Gravitize Ventures for letting us check this out. You guys rock. Keep them coming.
Starting point is 00:24:16 And we'll keep watching them. As far as that, nothing else that I have to add. So until then, until next time, everyone, party on. All right. Everybody, make sure you stay safe.
