right guys here we are again it it is that time of year uh or as brian likes to say tis the
season isn't that you're saying man i don't know if i said that but we'll just say i did yeah this
this is our this is our christmas right like uh this is when we get to open our presents
some of them are good some of them are stinkers i guess we'll kind of you know go through that
but once once again we're both doing only current year movies so we can kind of add
to our list, but we're back again, folks.
It's the 31 days of Halloween.
Of course, this is part one.
So, you know how we do this?
Brian and I always like to like to do this every year.
One movie, well, we'll get into it later.
I was going to say one movie, you know, I thought about Phil the whole time I watched it,
but we'll decide if we agree on that, if this, if this would be a good one for him.
You may know what I'm talking about.
I don't know.
Yeah, I think I exactly know what you're talking about, but we'll get to that when we get to it.
All right.
Well, we've both got eight movies so far, so we'll probably try to do this in like maybe four segments or something like that.
I think that's what we normally end up doing.
So, uh, yeah.
All right, 31 days of Halloween.
So we got 31 movies for you guys.
This is part one.
We got one through eight.
Uh, Brian, do you want to do the honors man?
What was the, what was the first movie?
movie you saw this Halloween season?
The first one I checked out was the new, not Robert Eggers, but Max and Sam Eggers, his brothers.
I think this was their directorial debut starring Brandy, and it was the front room.
Yeah, I was going to go see this at the theater, but it was only there like a week or something like that.
by the time
I noticed, but we did
watch the trailer for this. I remember that.
Yeah. It's
decent.
It's, I wouldn't call it
straight horror. It's more psychological
thrillers, psychological horror.
I got a couple of those.
Yeah. The
actress that played the
elderly lady, the mother-in-law,
I thought she did a
fantastic job.
Pretty creepy, huh?
Yeah, but Brandy, she didn't do horrible.
It just kind of seemed like she maybe was miscast.
Really?
So just maybe, I don't know, I haven't seen the movie.
Is it maybe you think they would have done better with somebody that was a little bit more, you know, like creepy herself?
Like, was there any twist?
Well, I guess I shouldn't ask if there was a twist, huh?
well it's basically
the husband's estranged stepmother
in law or stepmother
moves in and things happen
and there's some instances where you're kind of
maybe Brandy's character is like over exaggerating the situation
okay
it kind of bounces that's where the psychological stuff
comes in.
And not that she did bad, it's just
I thought maybe
a different actress could have conveyed
the
craziness of the things that were
happening. Is this really
happening? Or am I just
losing it? Or what's, you know, that
kind of situation?
I think I know exactly, yeah, I know exactly what
you're talking about. Like, it would have been better
if it was more questionable, maybe?
Yeah. I mean, it's
an A-24 movie, and it fits
in that niche that they have when it comes to their movies i thought the the agger brothers the
eggers however you say their last night i thought they did a pretty good job i'm almost sure this
is their first movie they directed i know they've written some stuff especially with their brother
robert eggers so sure it's it's decent if you're if you're into a 24 i say check it out
All right. So that's, it's called the front room. Is that right?
Yep. And it is on BOD. Or if you want to play the waiting game, I know A-24 has a deal with Max to where all the A-24 movies eventually end up on Max.
Oh, okay. I didn't, I didn't know that. That seems like a strange marriage, but yeah, why not? Max is changing, right?
Not the same old HBO we used to know.
Nope.
All right.
So kind of thumbs up, thumbs down?
Kind of in the middle.
Okay.
It wasn't bad to where I wouldn't recommend it.
Gotcha.
But it's not going to be on my top list.
Okay.
Fair enough.
All right.
Well, the first one I saw, I kept hearing about this one.
Like, I know that several of our fellow podcasters have talked about it.
And, you know, it's only like an hour-long movie, right?
So kind of like that found footage when host that they had during COVID, it's like, okay, well, it's only an hour.
How bad could it be?
So I thought, ah, man, this, I don't know if it's going to be exactly what I want to see, but I was pleasantly surprised with it.
It's called Milk and Serial.
I think you've seen this one.
Yeah.
what'd you think
I liked it I really did man
I think this is kind of like that
that new type of
filmmaking where you've got a lot of the
social media stuff in there
it's these guys that do
kind of like a prank
YouTube channel and they're
pretty popular because I think at one point
one of the guys says they had over a million
viewers on one of their videos
so they're
you know obviously they have some people
that follow them around so I guess they
long story short
these people that do a bunch of pranks
and it's kind of like
it's got a twist to it
which I don't want to give away but
I didn't really see it coming
which I kind of like it when you're halfway
through a movie and you start realizing
something was going on that you didn't
know was and then
like one of these pranks as you could imagine
kind of goes a little bit awry
and then you find out
well did it go awry or was that maybe
planned by one of these
pranksters and then you start thinking, hmm, okay, well, maybe there's more of this than meets
the eye. So I kind of like the twist and turns. I thought the acting was really good for
people that I've certainly never seen before, you know, wouldn't consider anyone in here,
like a, like an A-lister or even a, like a W-lister. Like these are, I don't know, I heard it was
made for a very low amount of money. Do you know anything about that? I think I've heard.
I think Matt posted on our in our Facebook group when I was watching it.
I think he mentioned that they made it for around $7,800.
Seven or $800?
Okay, well, I'll tell you what, for one hour of my life in a $7 to $800 movie,
I'll highly recommend this one.
This was a lot of fun.
And you don't really know who people are until you kind of figure out who,
they are through their actions and
stuff like that. But
I guess what I really appreciated
was the way that they kind of captured
how these new YouTube channels are.
This is kind of like the new medium, right?
Where anybody can do,
I mean, look at us, right?
We do it. We do a podcast.
So it's like anybody can put this stuff out there
and you don't have to spend a fortune,
you know, or find the biggest names to do it.
And still make it entertaining.
So, yeah, milk and cereal,
I think it's everywhere.
I think it's on YouTube.
I think I watched it on Tobe.
But yeah, for something that you can get into and get in and out in a relatively short time,
when I see something that has a lot to say about our new media,
I would recommend milk and cereal.
I liked it.
So this was a good start for me, Brian, for the 31 days.
Nice.
number two for me
was a movie that
we watched a trailer
I think we watched the trailer for all of mine
Okay
This was getting a lot of buzz
A high rotten tomato score
And that was Strange Darling
Okay
Well what did what did you think
I liked it
Not what I expected after watching the trailer
There's some twists in there
there. I thought
Willa Fitzgerald, the lead actress
and Kyle Gawner, he's the
main actor in there. I thought they did a fantastic
job. Ed Bagley Jr. and I think
Barbara Hershey is in it. Yeah,
some ruby games. Yeah, they play
kind of wacky characters. That's one way to put it.
Yeah, basically, if you've seen the trailer,
it's not exactly what you expect out of the trailer.
It kind of swerves you a little bit,
and I really appreciated that.
And I did not recognize her in the movie,
but I've seen Willa Fitzgerald in a TV show.
She was the main love interest for Reacher in the season one.
Ah, okay, yeah, that's one show that I've never really,
never gotten into
but a lot of people have told me it's excellent
yeah which it is
which um
sorry about the dog's barking
um that's all good
which uh it says how good a job
she did in this movie because I did not
put two and two together
that that was her from Reacher
totally set up different character than she plays on
reacher
so yeah I totally
recommend Strange Darling
Yeah, all right.
That's one of those that, you know, we kind of saw the trailer and it was like, I thought it might be about one thing.
And I'll talk about it later because it might be on my list as well.
Cool.
All right, cool.
And where is that one streaming, Brian?
Where can people see it?
That is also on VOD.
Okay.
All right.
Well, for my second one, I.
saw a movie that people are talking about it not too long ago and I guess it's one of those
kind of divisive ones like some people really loved it some people didn't care for it
um hate to say it dude I was kind of meh on it and well I'll go into a little bit more detail
it's called the coffee table I think you've seen this one also yes I've seen this one
yeah I heard that it was kind of like you know the the shopping
shocking movie of the year and something that really, you know, took a lot of people by surprise or whatever.
I truly, I kind of thought it was a little bit boring, except for the fact that it did sort of like make me sick to my stomach and part of it.
I guess I can understand why why people like it, but I don't know, ma'am, this one, this one wasn't really for me.
What were your thoughts on it?
Were you, like, shocked, quote unquote, shocked beyond belief with what they did?
It was something that I didn't see coming, especially that early into the film.
But I wasn't like, I don't know, maybe I'm desensitized.
I was like, that's really fucked up, but I'm not going to stop watching.
And it kind of played more like a dark comedy at times than a movie.
Yeah, it kind of did with the way the guy was acting and whatnot.
It was kind of like I was trying to figure out what the heck was going on.
Because it's like, I don't know.
I guess that could affect you that way if something like that, you know, were to happen to you.
And, of course, we're darting around here.
You know, neither one of us wants to kind of say what happens.
But I'm with you.
I didn't think it was going to be that early.
I thought there was going to be more of a buildup because I, everybody always said it's very traumatic.
It's very traumatic.
you know, the thing that happens, it's going to shock you, it's going to traumatize you.
Like I said, it actually did make me a little sick to my stomach when I thought about it.
But how would one of us act in that situation?
Hopefully not like that, you know, but who knows?
Yeah, I don't think I would try to hide it.
Yeah, that was weird, man.
And then the end there, when they both did what they did at the very end.
yeah
but like I said
at times
like I said
play like a dark comedy
I guess
but it's
I don't know man
I like stuff
that's sometimes
sick humor
but to me
that was just kind of
a direction I didn't
particularly want to go
I mean
I don't know how else to say it
not a huge fan
I'll kind of give this one a thumbs down
I'll say that with all the
horror movies that are out this year to see
because, you know, horror's definitely the hot thing.
I would really skip this one, you know,
unless you, you know, just happen to really, like, you know,
films that are set in Spain.
And like you said, kind of a dark comedy
that's outside the realm of what might normally be socially acceptable to show.
As best I can put it, but not a huge fan, man.
I'm ready to move on to the next one.
All right.
Number three,
me is
consumed
starring Devin Sawa
Oh, of course, of course.
Hey, I'm down with the
Sawanassau.
Yeah, he's
all over the place, man.
Yeah. This one
is another trailer we reviewed. This one
we speculated
it had to do with the
wind ago.
Okay, did they show
more than the Pet Cemetery remake?
everything that has to do
of Wendigo shows more than the Pet Cemetery
remake.
Okay.
This one, I thought, did an excellent
job at
going into some of the lore
or showing you some of the lore
of the Wendigo.
Right.
And I like Devonsawa. He plays like a
mountain man that...
A mountain? Okay. That's...
Yeah. And...
You get... You get the... I won't
spoil it you get the reason why he's there in the woods and knows about the wind
ago and then the two other leads are a couple that are hiking in the camping and hiking
in the woods and they kind of encounter the wind ago and you kind of find out the lead
actress is a cancer surviving cancer patient in remission
Okay
And she
There's a reason
The Wendigo's after her
And they kind of go into that
But I thought
For a Wendigo movie
It's not as good as I would say
What's that movie?
Antlers
Yeah that one was from like
Last year of the year before right
Yeah it's not as
Not as good as that one
But I would say this one
Kind of went into the lower
A little bit more
At least for me it did
Hmm
Okay, does it does everything to do with who she is or like her family, like a family connection or anything?
Okay, I'll spoil this one little thing because I don't really think it's that big.
The Windigo likes to go after vulnerable people.
Okay.
And her being sick or recovering from being sick kind of allows her to be caught up in the,
the supernatural aspect of the window.
The windigo's effects take hold of her in certain ways.
Okay, so it kind of like maybe smells her sickness or smells her weakness or something like that?
I guess it's easier for the windigo to go after people that are more vulnerable or ill or any of those things.
Well, it might kind of like be the natural order of things too, right?
Like that might be a, you know, some sort of an instinct or something like that.
Yeah, because things start to happen to her.
Okay.
And it's not happening to her husband.
And you're trying to figure out why.
And then it kind of goes into why.
Interesting.
Oh, man.
All right.
I mean, kind of got my interest on this one.
And I thought it was shot well, too.
I'm not familiar with the director, Mitchell, Art Terry.
and probably said his name wrong, but it wouldn't be the first time we have.
Oh, we mess up names all the time.
But, yeah, if you like Devon Saw and you like When to Go movies, give this one to try.
This one's also VOD.
And this one's called Consumed?
Yeah.
Interesting.
All right, yeah, and that kind of plays in with, I guess that title kind of plays in with everything that's going on.
And Devin Sawah is a mountain man.
Can't pass that up, man.
Yeah.
Okay.
And I'm going to speak for you, Lance.
We will support the
Bring Chucky Back movement that's going on on on social media.
Hashtag bring Chucky back, I think, is the hashtag.
Of course there is.
Of course.
Yeah.
It's picking up steam, Lance.
Yeah.
Well, maybe we'll get that.
If nothing else,
Maybe we'll get a movie to wrap everything up, right?
We should.
I mean, they're going to do the movies anyway, right?
You would think?
Yeah, I think we talked about it before.
Chuck, Chuckie's never going to go away.
No, kind of a force of nature, right?
Yeah.
He's one of the horror icons.
Kind of watching this trailer.
While we're talking, I'm kind of watching this trailer for Consumed.
I recognize a lot of these people in it.
So, definitely got some horror.
that Courtney Halverson, I guess the main lady.
Definitely seen her and stuff.
I think these guys have some horror crowd, man, not just Devonsawa.
Oh, unfriended.
She was in unfriended.
Do you remember that one, Brian?
Was that the first one on the laptop?
I think so, man.
Yeah, that's kind of what got some of that stuff kicked off.
And then I think I've seen her a couple other horror movies as well.
So I like her acting.
Yeah, she was pretty good, too.
All right, I'll check, I'll check this one out.
Consumed.
All right, cool.
So I had to go see a movie that I missed when you guys talked about it.
Do you remember when you guys talked about the Strangers Chapter 1?
Not to be confused with the original strangers, of course, right?
Yeah, I remember.
In any way form or fashion, because,
when it started, I was like, what's all the hate for this?
It's like filmed really well, some gorgeous shots of the countryside and things like that.
And then, well, then it got into the movie.
And you got a completely wasted Richard Brake that shows up like in a diner scene for about two minutes.
Like he didn't just work one day.
He worked like an hour and jumped off the set, I think, which definitely,
expected to see him show up again never
did I thought townspeople were in
on stuff kind of like you guys talked about
they really set it up to make it
look like it was going to be something big
and
it wasn't it was a replay
the same exact thing you saw in the movie
and you've got to wonder why the
fuck they took the time to make this movie
well
I think I said before
I'm going to hold judgment off
because they did film the whole
trilogy all at once
so I think
at least for me the second movie is going to be
kind of make a break
so do you think
they're still going to release the other movies
though did did this one do well
yeah
hmm okay well
I guess we'll get a chance
this is another one that
like many of the ones you're talking about
I had to go out and find through VOD
because I couldn't
seem to see this on a streaming
service. This is when you would have thought
would have gone. No, wait a minute. I think I did
see this one on Max. Am I right?
Isn't this one on Max now?
I think I did see it. No, no. I've
only seen it that one time.
And once is enough
for you? Yeah, because I've seen
that story more
than once, so I didn't need to see it again.
I just
I also question why
they redid it, but then I thought
about it since they filmed all
movies consecutively. Maybe
maybe
maybe
more sense. Yeah, like
I also thought there was
characters wasted in the movie. Maybe they
play a bigger part in
the next two movies.
I mean, the main actress is
really cute, so it's got that
going for it, you know?
Yeah.
We'll see.
Had a shower scene that I wish had a
gone a little bit further down with the camera pan?
Yeah, I think this was PG.
13. I think so too. Oh man. All right. I'll I'll be with you man. I'll reserve judgment. But
so far, Brian, I am not off to a great start. As we're talking about one through three here.
So I will say this. I'll definitely hope you bring us up. I will say this about the strangers. I'll say it
right now. If we all end up hating the second one and they release the third one, we will.
will not review the third one.
Well, I hope it's not as bad as Kevin Koster's horizon that just bombed so much that he's,
I think he is going straight to Max with the other two or something.
Oh, he's already made those, right?
I think so.
I think it's another one like this one where it's kind of, you know, too late to back out.
Yeah.
Go ahead.
No, for what it's worth, I did see this one on a streaming service.
Everybody listening, if you want to see Strangers Chapter 1
to be a completest, it is on stars.
Oh, okay.
Oh, yeah, it's Lionsgate.
Lionsgate puts their stuff out on stars.
That makes sense.
If you got stars anyway, why not, right?
Yeah.
Ready to move on?
Yep, let's go.
All right, number four for me
is the latest entry in the VHS franchise,
VHS BHS B.H.
beyond. Ah, okay.
And I enjoyed this one thoroughly.
Did you?
I enjoyed every segment.
Okay.
I thought a lot of the effects were cool.
I think the one that I thought of Philip the most was the last segment.
I could see that.
I could see that.
That one was directed by Kate Siegel.
written by Mike Flanagan.
Okay.
And I think from...
Yeah, it was really trippy.
I think from a directing point,
I think that was the most well,
the most well-directed one out of all of them.
But my favorite one was,
I think the first segment,
the one that was kind of like a video game,
first-person shooter.
Oh, yeah, that was really good, dude.
The point of view thing,
that with the cops that kind of like,
what kind of cops would really act like this type thing?
And then I'm like, well, if it's that kind of world and there's that much chaos, you know, you never know who.
It's probably like street thugs that are stepping up to be cops or something, you know.
Yeah, I thought they were all well directed.
I will say I probably, if it wasn't for the ending of the wraparound, I probably would have said that might have been one of the worst wraparounds.
You think so?
It started to, but then where it led off at the end, I thought was pretty cool.
Yeah, there was one
kind of silly one,
but,
you know,
the one I'm talking about
with the,
I'll just call it
Fido or Bowser episode.
Oh,
the Justin Long and his brother
Christian Long one?
That,
now that you say that,
okay,
now I get it.
Now I get it,
because I definitely see
the similarities to Walrus.
That's exactly,
I was like,
he must have wrote this one
when he was making that movie.
It seemed that way.
didn't it. It was definitely creepy.
You know, everybody in it.
It wasn't bad, but it was probably the
the lowest. Yeah, I think so too.
Kind of silly, right?
And I, Lance,
I even like the Bollywood one.
I did too, man. I did too.
Yeah,
it was, it was
a fun anthology, for sure.
My favorite was the parachuters
sequence. Yeah, that
looked really good.
Yeah, that was incredibly well done, right?
Yeah.
But yeah, this one's streaming on Shutter, and I, this is probably so far out of the ones we talked about, the one I recommend the most.
Nice.
Yeah, I can't disagree too much, man.
Well, we'll talk about it here in a few minutes.
So what is that four?
We've gone through four now?
That was my number four.
All right.
So we're halfway there.
wait a minute one two three four okay just making sure all right yeah i've still got i've still got five to go
making sure we're on track here man um because now we're getting to some that that we've talked about
already and that next one i saw was strange darling and um i hate to say i saw the twist coming but i
think even when we all watched the trailer i asked do you think it's possible that and that actually
kind of turned out to be the twist.
So if you want to go back and listen to the episode,
you might, well, maybe don't,
if you want to be surprised by the movie,
because I,
I do like the way they did it, though.
Yeah, it was well told.
Yeah, and, yeah, your guy that you're talking about
that played the possible serial killer there,
very well done.
I love the Quentin Tarantino-ish style,
where they, you know,
skipped around with the chapters. They like didn't do everything in perfect order.
Yeah, you start with like chapter five. Yeah, and and the,
and the way they did it, they kind of gave you just enough that you really wanted to see
what got us to this part. So like when they went from a chapter five and then directly to a
chapter two, you weren't like pissed off because the way they did it, I thought was kind of masterful.
I don't think it's going to be a top 10, but, you know, for me, but it's kind of up there.
I mean, it's definitely a lot more good than bad,
and it's one of those few that the wife actually enjoyed watching with me.
So that always helps, too.
But yeah, you were talking about psychological dramas.
Maybe it was more of a psychological drama than like a straight-up horror.
There wasn't really, you know, anything supernatural in it or what have you.
Although one person thought there was something supernatural going on,
and that kind of added to that character.
So, yeah, I'm with you.
I enjoyed Strange Darling.
This was like the first one of the match that I really,
you know, really did enjoy watching.
All right.
Cool.
Number five for me is a new Netflix movie,
The Platform 2.
Oh, I haven't seen this one yet.
I love the platform.
A lot of connections.
I won't spoil anything.
A lot of connections to the original one.
Okay.
Basically, if you enjoyed the original one, I'm going to say you're going to enjoy this one.
Well, we saw some of the same characters, so can you say anything about timeline?
Like, when this one takes place versus the first film?
I don't want to, because it kind of lets you know later on in the movie.
Okay.
So.
But we do see some familiar faces.
Familiar faces, a little different order on how things are in there.
Okay.
How things were working amongst the...
I'm going to call them inmates because I don't care that.
That's a fucking prison.
Yeah, any way you look at it, right?
Yeah, and even the stupid people that volunteered to be in there, you're a prisoner.
and a lot of gross stuff, a lot of greedy evil people in there.
Of course.
Some nudity, actually, this time.
I don't remember there really being any nudity in the first one.
Yeah, there was definitely some violence and gore, I think, but I don't recall any nudity.
Yeah, definitely violence and gore in this one.
Okay.
So they kind of ratcheted it up a little bit in this one?
Yeah, and I believe same direction.
came back to do the second one.
And I honestly hope they make a third one,
because I would like to see more.
Yeah, it sounds like you're saying they left it open for that.
So I'll check it out.
I don't know if it's one I'm going to rush to see for this,
but, you know, I like the first one,
so at some point I'll definitely watch Part 2.
Yeah.
And I've got to say the sounds of people eating,
or fucking disgusted.
Oh, yeah.
Well, and also it's probably, is it dubbed?
Or did you see one with subtitles?
I saw the one with subtitles,
but I do believe there's one that's dubbed.
Yeah, because you know how sometimes with the dubbed ones,
they, like, over-exaggerate those gross sounds and stuff like that,
and the voices are almost kind of borderline humorous sometimes?
Yeah.
But you're saying that's probably how it was.
filmed and edited, huh, originally?
I watched,
originally, I watched
part of the dove version,
and I just couldn't do it.
It was kind of taking me out of it, so I...
Yeah, it's kind of tough, tough sometimes.
Like, oh, I see your hairdo.
Did you hear about this thing that we do?
Oh, yes. Ha, ha, ha. That's a very
funny thing that we do. Yes, and we love to do it every Friday
at 7 o'clock.
Yeah, bad dubbing can take me out of a movie
maybe faster than anything else, man.
Yeah.
All right, so Netflix, right?
Yep.
All right, I got one from Prime.
Okay.
And I've got one that you don't need to watch on Prime,
because it's trash.
But it's, I was kind of, I do have to say this is one of those that had, like,
really, really good art.
on the
on the little
movie poster
that you flashed by
the icon
when you're on Prime
and I was like
wow that looks interesting
because it's kind of like
a lady in a bathtub
and it's like
is this
supernatural
or like a real pale person
it looked
it looked good
let's put it
it ropeadote me in
but this is one
have you heard a one
called the mistress
no I don't believe
I heard that one
probably a reason
that you haven't
Because it's not very good, Brian.
And, you know, I'm the world's worst at figuring things out, like, early into the movie, how it's going to end up and what's going to happen.
I had this movie's number from the very beginning.
I knew exactly who was really doing the killing.
I knew exactly what was really going on.
I knew exactly how much of it was supernatural.
I knew exactly how much of it was in certain people's minds.
it was like probably the most predictable movie I've seen in a couple of years.
So I would just go ahead and pass on this one.
Just forget I even said it as a matter of fact.
And let's move on to the next movie.
So you can stream it free on Amazon Prime if you're dying.
And I think they're really advertising it because I think they've got a lot of their,
you know,
movies that have horrific type artwork on it to kind of catch your attention with it being October.
But yeah, if you see one,
called the mistress on prime, run, don't walk away from this piece of shit.
Quite boring, quite boring.
You will not enjoy it.
Okay, moving on.
All right, my number six, we're going to stay on Prime,
this time with a Prime original called House of Spoils.
It's a culinary, supernatural horror movie.
Oh, so I know AJ will watch this one with me then.
Yeah.
The premise is this lady who, they keep putting it on the poster.
Ariana Dubois, Dubois.
Not Ariana Grande.
They keep putting, I guess she's an Academy Award winner.
What?
Yeah, I don't recognize her.
But the premise is she's a top chef.
She works for one of the, she's, I think, Sue Chef.
She works for one of the top chefs.
She quits because she's going to open her restaurant,
her own restaurant, whatever, restaurant tour.
Okay, okay, sorry to interrupt, man.
I should have known this being the musical fan that I am.
West Side Story, the 2021 West Side Story,
she won Best Supporting Actors.
There you go.
Okay.
Nothing musical about this one.
Really? Okay. Well, damn it.
She's going to open up her own restaurant, and they find a spot.
It's kind of out of the way.
Okay.
And she has clients coming in, investors, so she's getting things set up,
getting her recipes together, and stuff that she's making keeps instantly getting spoiled.
or there's like a lot of insects infested.
Oh, okay. So there's something going on besides just normal tear and tear.
Something with the house.
Oh.
And who used to live in the house.
Yeah.
Okay.
I also like the culinary stuff.
That's what drew me to this movie.
It's not going to make my top ten, but I thought on the culinary stuff and I thought she did a good job.
her performance, I think you should watch it.
I know you like the culinary stuff, Lance.
Yeah, I do, but more importantly, the wife does.
So, yeah, this will be one I'm going to check out.
Yeah, I do recognize this one.
Like, we almost decided to watch this.
If we'd know that angle was there, I'm sure we would have seen that instead of the
mistress and probably been happier.
Yeah, sounds like it.
All right. Well, let's see. What are we up to here?
Number six? Okay. Yeah, man, every once in a while I see a movie that, you know, I watch it. I'm like, you know, that's definitely going to be top ten, if not top five.
And I really enjoyed the, because I do remember I was at the movie theater and I saw the trailer for this one and I thought, well, that's interesting.
Kind of like hard to tell if this person that in the trailer is telling the truth or not.
But once you start watching this one, it's kind of one of those that slowly unravels.
It's, well, shit, let me say the name of the movie.
Somebody is what I'm talking about.
This one's called Oddity.
Have you seen it yet?
Yes, I saw it a couple months ago.
About the twin sisters.
I love it, man.
I mean, this was just like a, this could have been a stage play.
Because almost everything that happens in the movie is in one single location.
And it's, I believe it's an Irish film.
It certainly looks like it is.
And other than the fact that it's, you know, twin sisters, you know, there's a scene early on that kind of sets the stage for the movie.
And then it sort of kind of goes backward with telling the story.
But long story short, you got twin sisters.
One of them is either really a psychic or just kind of a charlatan, you know, who sells these.
I guess that's where the name Oddity comes from.
She has a shop or she sells these eyes.
items. Yeah, she's
I think they call it mediums.
Yeah, she can touch an item
and tell the history of it, which
you know, you hear about that
from time to time, but
they give you a little bit of a question there.
Is she really able to or is she not?
That's obviously very evident
you know, by about halfway through
the movie, but I like the
small scale of this one.
I liked all of the acting.
I think there was a lot of
there were a lot of characters that were
particularly sinister in it, which I always like to see that. You've got a lot of different
personalities. Like you've got the, you know, the new, the new love interest of a certain
character that's just a, just a complete, you know, jerk and makes it evident that they're a
complete jerk. But then there's other people that you think early on might be, you know, pure
of intent. And then you find out later maybe they're not so pure of intent. So, yeah, without giving
too much away. I highly recommend
this one, dude. I love this
movie. I really enjoyed
Audity. And I was a little
disappointed at the very, very ending, because
I kind of wanted more action at the end. But then
when you kind of think about it,
and there was sort of like a MacGuffin that they
put in the movie earlier with this particular
item. And then this other
person finds this item and uses it,
and you're like, okay, well, we know what's going to
happen here, because they told the story
earlier in the movie what to expect.
So, you know, just
a nice, sublime, quiet
little movie, pretty much all on one set.
Great acting.
A great acting by the person
who plays the dual role of the twins,
so I cannot recommend
Audity highly enough.
I hope it's streaming somewhere like on Shudder soon.
It's coming to Shutter.
All right. Well, watch it.
Watch it. Audity. It's great.
All right.
Moving on to number seven.
This is a new Hulu
exclusive, starring
Sarah Paulson, that's called Hold Your Breath.
That was the one I was looking for tonight.
And I ended up with starting Winnie the Pooh, Blood, and Honey and Couldn't finish it.
What'd you think?
I thought it was a decent.
It's not, I wouldn't label it horror.
Oh, boy.
What?
What's wrong?
No, you say it's decent.
Isn't this the one in the trailer where they couldn't breathe the stuff in or whatever?
That's what I think Phil.
was saying. That's what it looked like kind of. It plays the dust storms play a part because it's
on a farm and right I forget where but there's a lot of dust storms where they have to
come inside because you can't be outside in the dust storm or you have a chance of dying.
But nothing supernatural like you're not breathing in an evil entity or anything.
Can you say that?
Okay.
Well, it has mostly to do with,
oh, God, how am I going to dance around this?
Like carcinogenic sands?
It has nothing to do with the dust.
It has nothing to do with the dust.
And I think it's a period piece too, so.
I might avoid this one, dude.
You're not selling it.
You're not giving me a chance to explain it.
You keep talking about the dust.
Okay.
Essentially, this drifter, the husband is gone.
He has went to look for work.
He's got a job opportunity somewhere.
Sarah Paulson does not want to take the kids from the farm
because just in case the job doesn't work out,
that's the only thing they own is the farm.
Okay, that's a different angle.
And one night after a dust storm, they find a drifter.
I think he's in the barn.
hiding. Now, it's not
played by Devin Sawway, is it?
It's played by cousin from
the bear. Oh, he's great. He's going to be the thing
and the Fantastic Four. Yeah.
He essentially
is
convincing her. He has certain
abilities because something
happens to the daughter and he heals her.
And
he tricks his way. He tricks his way
into the home, but later something happens
to where he's not who he's.
seems and the daughters
believe he's this
because they like to read the story called
the gray man
about about this entity
that comes in through the sandstorm
and the guy says he's the gray man
and then he kind of disappears and leaves the house
and he lets him know I can get in the house
whenever I want
and the rest of the movie is playing off of
Sarah Paulson
thinking is this really
real or is this in
head. That's the movie. That's the psychological thriller. The dust storm is just background.
All right. Suddenly I'm in again. You've definitely got me intrigued now.
Sarah Paulson, as usual, brings it. And yeah, anything else, I'm going to spoil it.
Nice. All right. Cool. Cool. Hulu. Is that right? Yep.
All right. I'm definitely back in, dude. I'm going to check this one out. You got me.
So, thumbs up on this one?
Yeah, I'll give it a thumb. When I say decent, I can't say everything is knocked out of the part completely.
Everything can't be a 10.
That's the way it is. I get it.
Decent does not mean don't watch it.
I definitely get you.
All right.
Well, I'm going to check it out, especially since I have Hulu anyway.
Yeah, because my next, we're on seven, my next movie here is one you talked about.
I don't know what else we can say about VHS beyond, except that I'm really digging these VHS movies, dude.
I can't think of one that I've seen recently that I haven't liked.
I do not care for this one as much as the one last year.
The one that had the shooter at the lake and then the religious cult there at the end that was kind of holding down the fort in that house.
That was my favorite of all of them.
But yeah, I would, you know, VHS beyond, or as I like to refer to it, fill the movie.
Because it's, I'm not going to hold back.
There's a lot of alien shit.
It's not all aliens necessarily, but there is a lot.
of alien shit in this one, wouldn't you agree?
Yeah, I say the one we talked about,
Justin Long and his brother directed,
I think that's the one that's not,
but I kind of like you.
You kind of got a break from the sci-fi alien stuff.
I guess.
Kind of like the chance to laugh a little bit.
Yeah.
Because it was so goofy.
Yeah, I mean, it was definitely the,
I don't want to say,
the least professionally done,
all of them, but I don't know, man.
It's...
It wasn't bad.
It wasn't bad. It was fun. It was fun.
But if you had to rank them, I agree with you, that would probably be at the bottom.
Yeah. And dude, I'm with you that first one, the point of view thing with the quote-unquote
cops. That was amazing. And the way they kept referring as E.T. You know, the character E.T.
Or whatever. And then that creature at the end of it was so fucking creepy.
I don't know if that was like a bird-like creature
I mean I guess you can't compare it to us
because obviously it's from
some place other than Earth
but I loved it dude
it was like a zombie shootout video game right
yeah
with chainsaws and other things
oh man from point of view
I can't recommend VHS beyond enough
this one's fun
in fact I think our brother Philip
has got to check this one out if he hasn't already
I don't want to talk to him until he's seen this movie, dude,
because I think it's written specifically for him.
They've even got the little videos that he's always sitting me,
where it's like the jet fighter,
and you can kind of see the UFO wobbling in the distance,
and they're chasing it.
So they, like, put all of that together and kind of make it make sense.
Yeah, I enjoyed it, dude, fun movie.
Definitely high on the list here.
Cool.
All right, the last one.
we're going to talk about is number eight.
And for me, is one that was in the theater,
but it'll be on Shutter.
It might still be in theaters limited,
but I know it's coming to Shutter at the end of this month.
And that's Asreal, starring Samarra Weeby.
Oh, you got to see it.
Oh, man.
I totally missed it.
It was in one of the three theaters that's close to me that are AMC.
And it was like,
there a week only. So I was
really disappointed that I missed
this one. Yeah.
Basic premise, it's
in like a dystopian future.
Okay.
Where nobody speaks
because
I think it's a religious
thing. And they
offer up sacrifices to these creatures
and she is the sacrifice
and she
escapes being
sacrificed and then it's just an all-out
chase throughout the movie to get her.
And she goes from being the chase to
kick an ass.
And she typically does, right?
In a lot of rules.
But it does
ask more questions because
there's other areas that she
goes to with other people,
I'll just say.
That kind of makes you think what time
period this is and
is this a thing with all people throughout the world or just their people?
Hmm.
So there may or not be a bigger universe here.
Yeah.
Okay.
Well, I'm definitely going to check it out.
It's not really, yeah, obviously it's not streaming anywhere yet.
It's like catching at theater or if you're lucky enough, baby VOD, huh?
Yeah, I think, don't quote me on this, but I think the 28th.
this month. It'll be on Shudder.
All right. Well, I'll just
I might wait till then and just
watch it on AMC Plus then.
Yeah.
Okay. Well, I'm
going to end the show on
Brian, have you
ever
read about a movie?
Looked at the poster, seen
the trailer, and thought
that movie is right up my
fucking alley. I am going to
love it. There's no way I can
not love this movie. You ever been there? All the time. Okay. Well, I'm going to talk about a little one called
Haunt Season. Have you even heard of this? I've heard of it. I've not seen it.
So I saw the poster and it's gorgeous. It's really beautiful. It's like all these characters and
then you got a killer. You've got kind of like a pumpkin head. You've got those weird
kind of like muted Halloween colors all around it.
And I'm like, okay, that looks interesting.
Let me read about it.
Okay, so then I went and I read about the movie.
I'm going to go ahead and tell you what it says here in IMDB.
It says, a masked maniac targets cast members as a suburban Halloween haunt attraction,
turning their staged injuries into gruesome real-life horrors.
As the terror escalates,
lines between performance and reality blur.
Does this not sound like a top 10 movie of the year for us?
It does.
Pure shit.
Absolutely fucking horrible.
I have no idea where they came up with such a great...
This sounded like it was basically the horror returns the movie.
You know, it's set at Halloween, it's got a gorgeous poster, it's got a wonderful description.
Every single thing about this movie scream.
This should be amazing.
Absolutely fucking amazing.
So the first scene was kind of like,
okay, it's a little slow,
but it's kind of getting there
because it actually takes place at the haunt,
where they're like getting people ready
to work for the haunt for the Halloween season
and stuff like that.
And then I'm like, okay, now all of a sudden
it's a scene that's like outdoors
and it's becoming a rom-com or something.
And it's these two people by a lake
in full daylight and they've left the haunted house,
but we're literally only,
you know, 15, 20 minutes into the movie.
Then it kind of goes back to a five-minute scene at The Haunt,
and they're kind of setting it up.
And then you see this pumpkin head character
that's like putting blood on people and marking them
for whatever reason. You're like, okay, this could get interesting again.
And then all of a sudden it becomes this like,
girls just want to have fun video
with like these five chicks that are walking around a carnival.
And you've just almost got teeny bopper music playing
while they're, you know, flirting with the guys at the carnival,
and they're like, you know, posing for selfies on their cell phones.
And I'm like, what in the fuck are we watching?
And then it's like, okay, well, I looked at the timer.
There's 10 minutes left of the movie.
And yeah, they kind of finally show a killer there at the end.
And it's sort of who you, it's bad, Brian.
It's really, really, really bad.
It doesn't know what it wants to be.
I think that's the problem.
It's going to pull you in.
You're going to see the poster and you're going to read
description and you're you know how do you fuck up a movie about a how do you fuck up a movie about
a slasher that's running around killing off actors in a haunt you can't right literally you can't
i mean they've done it before well they did it again this is a bad one i hate to leave on a
down note dude but do not watch haunt season um it'll be tempting believe me you're gonna see it
you're gonna want to you're gonna want to play it keep moving
keep moving maybe the sir apulson would be better i don't know yeah well i mean we'll see next week
yeah we will man um all right so i guess that's going to wrap up our first uh eight movies of 31
so we'll be back in about a week we'll still got a regular show going on what are what are what
are we covering this week brian on the regular show all hallows eve which was the first
appearance of arc to clown right okay
And Terrifier 3, which I am really anticipating.
Some of the, I haven't read any spoiler reviews.
I just read some little quick little blurbs,
and I think we'll be pleasantly surprised.
All right, looking forward to it, man.
And I heard they up the gore in this one.
I'm sure they did.
All right, well, that's 31 days of work.
part one, Brian and Lance signing off.
So until next time,
catch you guys on the flip side.
