All right, welcome back to the horror returns.
And of course, since we're a horror podcast,
we got to do a, what do they refer to it as, Philip?
Basketball comedy?
Basketball horror.
Oh, yeah.
Except it's not horror.
More comedy.
Of course, we're talking about...
Uncle Drew!
Back again, the last time these two cats were with us was for the Star Wars saga.
You guys had fun recording that one with us?
That was really fun.
All right, cool.
So we got Juan and Ivan back again, guys.
How's it been going?
Good.
Yeah?
Uh-huh.
You got to see any, besides Uncle Drew and the other maybe we're going to talk about,
do you guys see anything else cool this week?
Yeah.
Yeah.
What's that?
Splash Town.
Splash Town, the water park, huh?
Yep.
That's the only thing you can do in Texas, huh?
Stay indoors or in the water?
Yep.
Mm-hmm.
It's hot.
All right, so we're going to go into our.
feature film Uncle Drew
Phillip you get some trivia for us man
I do so this one was directed by Charles Stone
the 3rd and written by John
Longino
let's see
that is a weird last name
Longino huh
The Greta Longino
It sounds Italian
It does sound Italian
Yeah it may be
In the final game coming out of
of a timeout with a mere seconds left
on the clock, Uncle Drew,
played by Kyrie Irving.
Reminds Preacher, played by
Chris Weber, this is a basketball movie, guys,
that they have
no more timeouts.
This is in reference to an incident
during the NCAA Men's Division I
basketball tournament in
1993. During that game,
the real-life Weber,
pretty infamous, called a timeout
with 11 seconds remaining in the game.
Unfortunately, his team, the Michigan Wolverines, who were down 73 to 71 against North Carolina, did not have any timeouts left.
That call earned Weber a technical foul and ended up costing the Wolverines a chance to win the tournament.
Although Weber went on to have an illustrious career in the NBA, he continues to receive ridicule for that error.
And that was the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw that Chris Weber was in this movie.
I was like, no, that was that timeout call.
Right.
Let's see, we got another one here.
It's Erica Ash and Tiffany Haddish
both acted in the series
The Real Husbands of Hollywood in 2013.
And if that surprises you,
then you probably shouldn't be watching this movie.
I think that's it for trivia.
All right.
So move on to talking about the featured attraction.
Yes.
What did you think of the movie, man?
It was really good.
When Uncle Drew, right, he's at, when he said, no more time out, and when the tall guy, right,
he said, I thought we only had one more.
Who's the tall guy?
Is that Shaq?
No.
No.
Preacher, huh?
Yeah.
Chris Weber.
He said, I thought we had one more.
That's great.
He's a preacher like a reverend.
like a reverend in the movie.
What did you think about the part early in the movie
when he was on the court
and those young kids were being all cocky?
Yeah, and he said,
Here, young blood.
Hold my nuts.
Oh, yeah.
What did you think about it?
That was pretty funny.
Yeah.
Do you have a bag of nuts or something?
Yeah.
Of course.
I was hoping.
What was y'all's favorite part of the movie?
It was probably like the final game.
That was the best part of the movie.
The best part of the movie for me was, like, when he said, was it called?
Yeah, when he said, hold my nuts.
Apparently, this is going to be the main line through the podcast tonight, huh?
Well, it's not a bad line to be a main line.
It's a classic, right?
I'll throw in a little horror
symmetry in there
because I found another little piece of trivia.
Oh yeah? Yeah, it says the
character played by Lil Ray Howary
expresses fear of being in the woods and kidnapped
because he's seen the movie Get Out.
Which he was in.
Yeah, he actually appeared and Get Out
as the TSA agent.
Oh, man. Yeah, he was
kind of the hero of the movie.
He was. Remember?
He was the comic relief of the movie.
Right.
So what did you think about
the bad the, remember the bad guy?
Played by the infamous
Nick Kroll.
Nick Kroll.
He's made a career out of playing
douchebag guys. You know what that means?
No. That's not really a bad word, right?
Probably good that you don't know what that means.
You'll learn one day. Just don't be one.
But he was pretty cocky, wasn't he?
Oh, the one
that he said he could block, but next thing you know,
he got crossed and he made the shot.
Yeah.
So what did you think about all the tattoos that he got of all the years he won the, his team won the championship?
That was kind of stupid.
Was it?
Yeah.
And what did you think about when he stole the, he stole Uncle, not Uncle Drew, but the main guy's girlfriend?
Oh, that was funny.
That was funny?
When, um, what was fun?
When he said, I stole your, I stole your team and then I stole your chick.
Oh, that was funny.
He did steal his team, didn't he?
Yeah.
Yeah, well tell everybody how that went down. What was the deal? How did he steal the team?
And the players. So when they saw that the guy, when the main player,
Ghost, was that his name or something like that? Casper. Yeah. They call him Casper.
His name is Casper, but in the movies, his name was Casper. Pretty light skin guy.
Right? Yeah. Ghost is the other one.
His coach, he hooked him up with a pair of Jordans,
and he wanted the other guy, the bad guy in the movie.
Nick Kroll.
Yeah, what he said.
He wanted Casper, so he found a way to get him, and they made a deal.
Made a behind-the-scenes deal, huh?
Yeah.
That was cold-blooded, huh?
Mm-hmm.
And so then what happened to our hero?
What did he have to do?
had to start a whole new team, right?
Yeah.
The team was Uncle Drew.
And who's Uncle Drew?
Uncle Drew's
Kyrie.
But who is he in the movie?
Why did he pick him?
Because people were saying that he was like a...
He was good, but they,
after he heard about the breakdown with this team,
he wanted to get him back together.
And then this one, this one time when they were,
Right.
He said, Kyrie Irving or Uncle Drew, he said, my team, my roster.
But then the other guy said, no, your team, my roster.
It was funny.
All right, so then what happened?
Did it turn into kind of a road trip movie for a little while after that?
A little while.
How did he put the team together?
It all started with Uncle Drew.
Right?
Right.
And then it was the preacher.
Right.
That's who he got first.
The first one.
And then it was lights.
Yeah.
Now, who's lights?
Why do they call him lights?
Because he was blind.
He was blind.
Yeah.
Until Uncle Drew gave him the glasses he was able to see again.
What?
Yeah.
That was Reggie Miller, right?
Reggie Miller.
And costume.
Now, who was the, who was Preacher's wife?
Because she ended up having a bigger part later.
She was a basketball player.
She was chasing him.
Was it Cheryl Swoops?
Who was that?
I couldn't tell under all the makeup.
Philip, can you tell from the, from who else in the movie?
What's her name?
Betty Lou?
Lisa Leslie.
Yeah.
Okay, there you go.
WNBA, I remember that.
Yeah, she was like, at first she was chasing,
She was chasing the preacher.
Yeah.
Trying to keep him at the church instead of having to go out and play basketball, right?
And then after all, she, like, started to play, like, basketball with the team.
Mm-hmm.
And, what was it called?
Because somebody got hurt, right?
Yeah.
The karate man.
Yeah.
Well, we didn't even talk about him.
How did they pick up the karate man?
Who's the karate man?
She killed.
She killed him.
He was the karate man?
Yeah.
Great.
He was running a karate school, right?
Kind of like Cobra Kai.
That dude does not need karate.
He could just like smash you.
Right.
So what did you think about him?
Was he a good character?
He was funny because when she woke up out of the hospital bed, right back here.
Oh, yes, when he was jumping when they won.
Uh-huh.
His butt cheeks are showing.
Yeah.
And that made it extra funny, huh?
Yeah.
How come he had a beef with Uncle Drew?
What was the problem?
I think it's because of Uncle Drew slept with some.
Yes, I remember the movie.
Yeah, he took a nap with his wife, right?
Yeah.
They played Patty Cake or watch TV or something, right?
Played some Nintendo maybe?
Yeah, don't take a nap about people's wife.
Bad idea.
So that's what caused the whole problem.
Yeah.
Man, it's got a lot of people in it.
All right, cool.
All right, so what do you guys think?
If you give it a scale of, we're gonna get, we rate on a scale of one to ten.
One, one would be like the worst movie you've ever seen.
Ten is like a masterpiece.
Ten.
Ten.
Oh, Uncle Drew!
It was really good.
Was it J.B. Smooth delivered that line?
It has to be.
Probably.
He's in the movie.
He's in the movie.
So what did you?
Mike Epps, the staple dude in every black movie.
He was an old, he was an old dude too.
Was he?
Yeah.
Why did they dress everybody up as old people?
Instead of just getting old people.
Great question.
Why do you think they did that?
I think it's just because of some people that, like, they used to be, they used to play basketball.
I think it's because either it's because they're good or it's because that they're, you know.
They didn't want to make them feel bad because they're already old,
so they're like, you'll just dress you up until you're older.
And it'll be funny.
Yeah.
So they were ballers in the day, but it was yesterday instead of like 10 years or 40 years ago day, right?
Like they were playing.
Steve Nash and David Robinson.
Man, there's a bunch of people.
There's a lot of people that showed up.
Well, a lot of them just kind of showed up.
They did like a documentary real photo-voted.
Well, none of those dudes can act.
For sure.
All right.
So we got your brother's score, Ivan.
What do you give it? One to ten.
I was going to say nine and a half, but a ten.
Wow! All right, folks. You heard it here first.
I may have to watch this one.
Yeah, if you haven't been out yet, especially a movie pass.
Yeah.
Go run.
Use it while you have the opportunity.
Run as fast as you can to check out Uncle Drew.
But there was another movie you guys saw this week while you were visiting here.
At Man and the Walls.
What?
And we're not going to go spoilers here.
No.
So what did you guys think of the movie? What were your favorite parts?
First of all, was it any good?
Yes. Yeah, it was really good.
And what was your favorite part in the whole movie, Juan?
Were that ghost girl?
What was it called?
Ghost?
Yeah, ghost.
Not Casper, that was the other movie.
We're ghosts, right?
Mm-hmm.
She, um, like, was it called in my books, me.
She, she, was, like, she was, like,
Yeah.
The battle scenes, huh?
Yeah.
That car chase scene.
I mean, they showed the trailer.
Right.
They showed a lot in the trailer.
Yeah, we'll talk about that.
When she was riding the Atman and the Wasp.
Right.
Their fist would just go through her, and she wouldn't be able to, they would,
wouldn't be able to hit her.
Right.
And at first, they wouldn't be able to hit her.
And then after a while, she would be able, they would be able to hit her.
They can finally make contact?
Yeah.
What was your favorite part, Ivan?
My favorite part is when Atman went into the school, and when he came back out,
when he came back out, Nick Pimmy was all like, how was school champ?
Right?
And then, right?
Because he was stuck being little.
He looked like a little kid.
And then after that, he said,
do you want a juice box and some street?
And then he said,
you really have that?
It was funny.
That was probably my favorite part.
Yeah,
that was funny.
What did you guys think about the bad guys?
Like,
the main bad guy with the crazy hair?
Was he scary or just silly?
He was silly.
He was silly?
He was silly?
More silly than scary, huh?
Yeah.
Okay, the funniest part about this movie
is when the girl,
is when ghost comes through the wall
and their friend's guy is like
Baba Yaga.
He was like, he was freaked.
All right, so listen, you guys know we do
a score of 1 to 10 for the movie.
But I want y'all's score of
1 to 10 for the chick
who played ghost.
All right, guys, don't get
quiet now. We've been talking about this
two days straight now. Is there a crush
going on here? Come on, guys.
I don't blame it. Nine. I don't blame it.
Nine? That's it?
Yeah.
Oh, wow. Uncle Drew gets a 10 and she only gets a 9.6.
9.6. Okay, I'll take that.
I would say 9.6, too.
All right. In other words, hubba, hubba, right?
Hey, I don't blame me.
All right, cool. So at least we're raising you guys the right way.
The funny part about it, right, is where that dude, he said, wow, this is true serum.
That was the other good.
Yeah.
A great scene.
Oh, I can't wait to talk about that one.
We'll talk about it in the big show.
All right.
Well, is there anything else you guys want to talk about before you give your scores?
In the part, when the car crashed in the movie, the guy,
Ant Man said the cars are in the hot wheel.
Oh, that was cool.
The hot wheel case, right?
And he found the car just like, I love you, Nick.
And then he, when he was, remember?
Michael Pena, man.
He's the highlight of this movie.
He was fun.
Did they do the Hot Wheels Cars in the last one or is that just new to this one?
I think that's new.
I don't remember that.
I don't remember that from the last one.
That's really awesome.
It is awesome.
Well, what did you get?
Were you guys surprised at all?
Yes.
What part surprised you?
At the end of the movie, when they disappeared, we were like, we were wondering who it was.
Well, we said no spoilers, but that's cool.
That's okay.
Anybody who's listed to this, they know what they're good for.
All right, well, everybody knows this movie takes place like at the same time Infinity War was going on, right?
Yeah.
Which you guys haven't seen yet.
Yeah, because they said he was under house arrest for two years.
We'll get in death into that.
So this is two years after Civil War for sure.
And you guys, did y'all see Captain America Civil War?
Did you like that movie?
Yeah.
Was this better or worse?
It was.
Like, not quite as exciting maybe, huh?
Yeah.
More comedy, though?
Yeah.
More lighthearted approach, I guess.
What about Infinity Ward?
Do you guys see that one?
No.
No?
I have.
Oh, man.
Yeah, well, it's not on, we would have seen it last night if it had been on a flex.
Yeah.
But it's not, so.
Great one.
Great one.
The end thing will make sense.
Okay, Juan, one through 10.
What do you give Ant Man on the Wasp?
Like.
I would give it like, uh, nine?
Pretty good.
Wow, nine's strong.
What about you, Ivan?
Um, I actually like this movie.
Ten.
Wow.
All right.
Well, sounds like you guys saw a couple of killer movies this week, huh?
Yep.
All right, cool.
Well, thanks for coming on the podcast.
You guys are welcome anytime.
What movie's next?
What's next on the agenda do you think?
What comes out this Friday?
It normally takes place at a hotel, but this year they're going to be on a big ship.
Hotel Transylvania 3, summer vacation.
Yeah, it comes out Friday.
Friday the 13.
All right, cool.
So, guys, until the horror returns again, good night.
