Welcome home. This is the podcast that proves that the horror never ends. Usually we'll seek out and review a brand new horror movie, and then we go back and find a classic work with similar themes. But this week we're doing something a little bit different. We are celebrating Halloween, and it's a big time Halloween celebration. Let's hear it, everybody.

All right, so we've got, like I said, it's going to be a little. little different show, but we're still going to cover everything that we normally cover. So we are going to get started with what we like to do on this show. And usually this show is more for grownups. And we would have to tell you we may use some four-letter words, but we're going to try our hardest not to this week because we've got some folks that probably shouldn't be listening to that kind of language this time. So we will do the show a little bit differently, but we'll follow our regular pattern and start with cool of the week. Okay, so these are our special guests that we have tonight.

From Alaska, we have Biana, and then from Texas, we have Caitlin and Addison and also Izzy. So let's start up north, since you got, you, you guys already have snow up there, don't you? Unfortunately, yes. Yeah, we have a lot. Well, Deanna, we want to know what's your cool of the week? What is the coolest thing that you've seen all week? Snow.

Snow's your cool of the week? What about any movies you watch? Goose bumps. Goose bumps. You guys like goosebumps, don't you? Yeah. So did you see the goosebumps movie, or some of the TV show?

The movie. What did you think of it? I tried to get her to watch the TV show. She said it's a little too scary. Yeah. Too intense, huh? Yeah, I had spiders and I kind of got scared, so I told Dad to change it.

You could do without that, huh? Well, what did you think about the movie? It was good. What was your favorite part? When the bus exploded When the bus exploded That sounds pretty intense right there Yeah

That sounds scary to me Was there anybody in it? No Oh okay That scared me for a minute That's in two buses Now am I thinking of a different movie Or is there a puppet in this movie

It's a puppet in the movie What's the puppet's name? Slappy. Slappy? Is he a bad boy or a good boy? Bad? What does he do that's so bad? He's just a bad guy.

Just an all-around bad dude, huh? Yeah. Made out of wood, right? Yes. Caitlin and Addison, I think you guys have the same cool of the week, don't you? Yes. All right, tell us all about it. Medea's Halloween.

Medea? Who the heck is she? How'd that go? Well, come on, guys. We need a review here. Tell us all about it. My favorite part was when, I'm not trying to spoil anything,

but when there's these two clowns coming up Emma Diaz, like she gets scared, and she, like, tries to punch them. And then she punches them, but it was really her old, her old granny friends and grandpa friends. Well, that's not much of a spoiler, because I think that happened in the first, what, five minutes of the movie? What was your favorite part, Addison? And he talked, when she talked like a boy.

Talk like a boy. Medea did? Yeah. Well, how did Medea talk like a boy? Because she really is my boy. Oh, that's the twist. I sure hope you didn't spoil it for anybody out there listening. Some people might not have known that.

What do you think, Brian? Oh, she can spoil this movie all she wants. You're not interested, huh? No, but I'm probably going to have to watch it here this weekend. I don't imagine there's like you can do to spoil Medea I don't think so either Beyond it do you want to see it? Yes

Izzy do you want to see it? You want to see it baby? She's got keys in her mouth right now so probably not Is it on your is on your must watch list Philip? No I think we'll probably skip that one. You might skip that one even if it's on Netflix, huh?

Yeah. Well, you know, if it came on TV or something, I'd watch it. I've actually heard good things about it. Right. Yeah, not exactly my cup of tea. All right. Well, you said Izzy has some keys in her mouth, so maybe you can help us with what you think her cool of the week probably is.

Izzy, did you watch anything good this week? What about cartoons? What about Hotel Transylvania? Blah, blah, right? Okay, she's nodding. She likes it. Can she do an impression? Izzy, can you do an impression of the vampire?

I don't say blah, blah, blah. Hey it. You say it, baby? No? All right, she's not having it. She's smiling. Has everybody else seen that one? Yeah.

Many times. A lot. Brian, what is your household's opinion of this movie? What do you think about the movie? Awesome. Awesome. What would you give it on a scale of 1 to 10, Biana? 10 being the best.

10 being the best. No, she gives it a 10. All right. What about you guys? I give it a 7. Okay. A nine. Oh, all right. Three pretty strong reviews there.

Ten? Izzy, you want to give it a ten? Come. Wow, okay, so we got two tens, a nine and a seven. That's not bad. I think Adam Sandler may have a long career. There you go. All right.

You got a lot of things doing. So, guys, as with every show, it's time to take a little trip down to the trailer part first one we're going to talk about is monster trucks that's the weird one but what did you guys think about this one weird because it's literally a monster

in a truck it's not like it's not like real life big monster trucks there's literally a monster controlling the truck there's a monster and it looks very really creepy and it's blue.

And it's blue. And it kind of looks like an octopus. Wow. Okay. Okay. He kind of like an octopus. Izzy, did you, did you see it? Did you see it, Izzy?

Remember a monster trucks? Uh-huh. The truck with a monster? Mm-hmm. Yeah? You like it? Yeah, you want to see it? Mm-hmm.

He's got the keys in her mouth again. Ringing an endorsement. Hopefully those aren't monster truck keys, right? Maybe that's what the deal is, right? All right, all right, Bionna, it's up to you. What do you think about this? Weird. That kind of sums it all up, doesn't it?

It's yuck you know, I don't. It's a good weird or bad way? Good weird. All right, well, I think we had another trailer to talk about this week, right, Brian? Yeah, Disney's Beauty and the Beast. You mean the cartoon? No, the movie, the live action movie. Oh, come on. That movie's a cartoon.

No. Are they going to have the candle and all that stuff in it? I don't know. Well, Diana, why don't you set it straight? You said it's not a cartoon. No. Yes, it's not a cartoon. Is it a Disney movie?

Yes. And did you get to see any people? One. One person? Who did you see? Bell. Bell, are you looking forward to seeing this movie? Yes. I'm going to love me.

Boy, Izzy's talking it. Is he's talking. Is he? Yeah, she's in the background now. Oh, she's got quite a review going on. She's got a couple of guys. They're talking to each other now. Oh, okay, cool. Caitlin and Addison, are you guys looking forward to seeing this one in the movie theater? Yes.

Well, when we were at last year, do you remember when we went to Disney World? Yes. And did we see Beauty and the Beast on stage there? Yes. You want to tell everybody about all about that? Beauty and the Beast. I was actually for my birthday over there in Disney World. I was going to be Bell, but it was too hot, so it was Jasmine.

But when we went into the show, they were asking for volunteers, and I was her dad in the cold, cold snow. That sounds pretty fun It's also my birthday And Disney were we both have the same birthday And When they Because I was

I was sugar And I was the one The one that was on the table When just like shaking the sugar Salt Oh you were the salt shaker Man that sounds like a lot of of fun. Pretty cool.

So it sounds like everybody's looking forward to this one. It doesn't look bad. I mean, from everything I've heard, I wouldn't mind seeing it. So is this, Brian, is this one, do we know who directs this one? This one is

directed by Bill Condon. Name sounds really familiar. Yeah, let me see. Oh, Lance, he's done some of your favorite movies. Yeah? The Twilight series. Oh, boy.

This has got a winner then, right? He's also done Chicago and Dreamgirls. Oh, man, he's 0 for four in my book. Has he done anything good? We can look forward to this one, March 17th. I'm sure I'll be dragged there. Also, Monster Trucks is coming out January 13th. All right.

We've already decided we're going to that one, right, guys? Yes. Yeah, I think we're all in agreeance with that one. Cool. Yeah, we're pretty good. We'll take good to do it. Okay, so I think we're all in agreements that everybody's a hotel, Hotel Transylvania fan.

We got a third one coming, we got a third one coming September 21st, 2018. Oh, right. That's a long time to wait, though. Yeah. I don't see what else Adam Sandler's got going on, so. I'm sure. Sure he's got some kind of Netflix thing going. He's been in a run of terrible Netflix stuff.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking, the Netflix stuff, you know? Have you guys watched any of those movies? Yeah, they're pretty bad. And I'm a big Adam Sandler fan. I give him a lot more credit than most people do. Okay, let's see. Are you guys familiar with a book series called Scary Story Story? to tell in the dark.

Have you heard of that? No? Oh, I used to read that one as a kid. That was my favorite. Is that... Go ahead. Is that a new one, or is that a kind of an older... An older series?

Yeah, I remember reading it when I was a kid. Okay. Yeah. We are getting an adaption from Guillermo del Toro. All right. Okay, he's a person to do that. It was filled with a bunch of

creepy pictures. Yeah. And the Lego movie writers, Dan and Kevin Hagerman, are writing the movie with Deltoro potentially to direct or produce. Okay. Are you guys looking forward to that one? Yes. Yeah? Addison, do you want to see scary?

Well, you love the TV show, don't you, for Goose bumps? Yes. You're a big fan of that, right? Not really Not really Not anymore You used to be I remember when you were watching

All of them on Netflix Not anymore Not anymore This one I think is a little darker than goosebumps Is it? Yeah What I remember Okay

Well this could be something then That they're looking forward to You guys might enjoy it maybe and our last thing I tried to keep it all kind of monster related or villain related

Emma Stone is rumored to become Curella DeVille in a live action movie What? Yes You could pull that off She's a young Curella DeVille but I think she could do it

They're making every Disney cartoon into a live action movie, aren't they? Yeah, we're actually getting this one kind of soon, December 22nd, 2017. Wow. Are you all going to see that? So is it called 101 Dalmatians?

From what I'm reading, I think it's mostly about her. Ah, okay, because they have already had a live action 101 Dalmatian movie. Yeah, I think they had a couple. Yeah, at least, right? And that is all the news I could find, kid related. All right, cool.

So we're going to talk about a couple of different Halloween-related stuff. I've got questions that I want to ask everybody. But first of all, Caitlin has put together a little history of Halloween and history of trick-or-treating she'd like to cover with all our listeners. So Caitlin, you ready? Yes. When most people think of Halloween, they think of parades, trick-or-treating. Two story about the ancient origins.

On the night before salmon, the dead would leave food and wine to keep people at bay. Instead of kids, instead of kids would dress up and get candy, they got food, coins, and wine. Wait a minute. Kids got wine? Yes, for their parents. Whoa, boy, Halloween's changed a lot, hasn't it? Trick-or-treating was just playing pranks and hygeeks. Hygienex. In the 1950s, it took our family-friendly kid centered.

Today, Halloween is a big business because U.S. consumers are spending 2.5 billion years annually adding candy estimated that Americans spend $6 billion on Halloween each year, making it the second most commercial holiday after Christmas. Wow, that's a lot of candy. So, Biana, you guys are in Alaska and we're in Texas, so it's really, really hot down here right now? What's the weather like up there? Is it snowing right now? No, it's not snowing. But you guys have snow on the ground?

Yeah. Okay, so how does that make trick-or-treating? What is it like when you're out trick-or-treating and it's snowing? Uh, cold. Silly question, huh? Yeah. Well, do you guys put on a lot of big costumes and things like that up there? Yeah.

Well, we do here, and when it's really, really hot outside, we're sweating like crazy inside our costumes and that's not fun yeah you never can't tell around here sometimes it's sometimes it's cold sometimes it's hot and it's a day-to-day thing yeah you just never know never know until the day gets here

it's been really hot today yeah it looks like there's a breeze right now for a second when I was driving here I thought it was going to rain you thought it was going to rain well I hope it doesn't rain. So since we're talking about trick-or-treating, we're going to go around the table and

find out what everybody's favorite trick-or-treating candy is. Caitlin, you want to go first? My favorite candy. Well, I don't have a favorite candy. But the most candy I would probably want is Starburst. Starburst, the regular kind or any of the special flavors? Regular kind. And which flavor is your favorite? The cherry red one. Ah, okay. What about you, Addison?

I like chocolate. Just regular old Hershey's chocolate, right? Yes. Just the regular candy bar? Yeah. Biana, what's your favorite? Candy corn. Ah, do you get that when you go trick-or-treating?

Yes. Izzy, what's your favorite? Favorite candy? She doesn't want to say it. She's getting shy, but she's pretty cute when she says Eminem's because it comes out Lemonims. Oh. Come on, say it. No?

No, she's not having it. All right. Sorry. Well, we know it's Eminem. So have you guys ever heard of a boy that his name is Charlie Brown? Yes. Has anybody ever seen that show? Yes.

The Great Pumpkin? Yes. Who can tell me what they put in his bag? They put healthy stuff? No, not healthy stuff. Come on. Biana, have you seen that movie recently? Do you know what? They always put in poor Charlie Brown's bag when he went trick-or-treating? No.

You guys don't remember? No. They would always say, what did you get in your bag? I got this candy. I got a popcorn ball, and then Charlie Brown would always say, I got a rock. You don't remember that? No.

It's 50 years from the Great Pumpkin. Wow. Did anybody know that? This is the 50th anniversary of the Great Pumpkin? No. Addison, were you going to say something? Uh-huh. When I have this bucket from McDonald's, and I stick the sticker,

and I didn't realize he had a rock, and then he had his little bag. There you go. He's holding a rock right there on the picture, huh? Uh-huh. All right. Well, are you guys ready to talk about some Halloween movies and stuff? Yes. And scary things?

All right. So usually when we talk about our movies on the movie, the show, I'll always do a little bit of trivia before we get started. So are you guys ready for some Halloween trivia? Yes. Orange and black are Halloween colors because orange is associated with the fall harvest and black is associated with, what do you guys think? People from the dead from the grave? Yes, that's exactly right. Yep, darkness and death. Jackal lanterns originated in Ireland where people place candles and hollowed-out turnips to keep away spirits and ghosts on the Sam Hane holiday. What do you think about that?

Creepy. Pretty creepy, but we're still doing it, aren't we? Yeah. Okay, what do you guys think was the first wrapped candy in America that people put out for Halloween? Bionna, you want to guess? Taddy corn. That's a great guess. but that's not the answer.

Caitlin, take a guess. The first candy that they wrapped so that you could give it away for Halloween. Sneakers? That's a great guess, but not true, not correct. Izzy? What kind of candy? She ran away.

Edison, you want to make a guess? That's probably the closest so far. You guys ever heard of Tutsi rolls? that was the first one so you guys have heard of you know that black cats are really special around Halloween right yes does anybody know why or do you want to take a guess

I will take a guess um um the bed that's a great guess pretty close but not quite uh it's scary maybe

anybody else want to guess Okay, black cats were once believed to be familiars of witches who protected the witches and protected their powers. Have you ever heard of that before? No. Come on, yes. Yeah, that's what I thought. I know you've heard of a black cat with a witch before, right?

Yes. But we never seen one. You've never seen one? So what are the signs of a werewolf? Does anybody want to guess? Something bad going to happen. Well, let me put it to you this way. If you see somebody and they have certain characteristics,

what in the old days would people think, well, that person's probably a werewolf because they have this thing about them? Addison, you want to guess first? Kill people. Okay. Vianna? Their claws?

Oh, that's a real good guess. Yes, yeah, one of the things is a long middle finger, so that's probably pretty close. The other things are very hairy palms. People actually thought when people had tattoos that that was a sign they were a were a werewolf. And the other thing is a unibrow. Does anybody know what a unibrow is? Yes. What's a unibrow?

Where your eyebrows connect. Brian, have you ever heard that one, man? Yeah, I know. Yeah. Okay, so I'm going to ask you guys a question. You tell me true or false. There really are something called vampire bats in real life. True.

That is true. But they're not from Transylvania. They live in Central and South America and feed on the blood of cattle, horses, and birds. False. Pretty interesting. That part's true. So, Bionna, you said something about you saw spiders in one of the goosebumps? Yes.

So if you see a spider on Halloween, what do you think it means? Anybody want to guess? A witch is around. Okay, so you think it's because a witch is around. Yeah. Anybody else want to guess? So it's dark. What's that?

It might eat you. that it might eat you? Yeah. Well, that's a good guess, too. Thank you. They leave a big, big bruce. That would be true, but people do say that if you see a spider on Halloween, it is the spirit of a loved one watching over you.

Now, I've never heard that one. Have any of you guys? No. Yes. Can't say I've heard that either. All right, well, I've got one. one more bit of trivia and it kind of goes with the movie that

we watched last week on the podcast. Do you guys know what movie we all watched last week for the podcast kids? Ouija. That's right. So I'll bet you guys can figure this one out really quickly.

In the first full year that it was put out, which new board game ended up outselling the game monopoly? Monopoly. They? They're really good.

You got it. Yeah, because Monopoly's had that crown for a long time. That's kind of cool. Yep. Yeah. All right. Well, this is all good trivia. So you guys ready to talk some movies?

Yes. All right. Well, let's start with Izzy if we can get her to talk at all. What's her favorite Halloween or scary movie? Izzy, what's your favorite scary movie, Is it Hotel Transylvania? Not going to happen. Sorry.

Not going to happen. Okay. Well, that's all right. That's a good thing. That's the one she's seen that one about a thousand times. All right. Biano, what about you? Giz bumps.

And hocus pocus. Hocus, pocus. That's a good one. Yep. I haven't seen that movie in a long time. Can you tell us what it's all about? Because I don't remember. I remember it.

But it's been a long time, so I'd like somebody to tell me what that movie is all about. It's about witches. Real ones, or were they fake witches? Fake. Were they fake? I don't know. I thought they looked pretty real to me. They're real in the movie.

Were they? Yeah, that are real in the movie. Ah, okay. You mean the actresses weren't actually witches then? Yeah. All right, that's pretty good. So what happened in the movie? They turned a boy into a cat.

Did he like being a cat? No, but he couldn't die. Did he eat a mouse? No. Did he eat candy? No. Did they have a dance and a party in the movie? Yes.

What was your favorite part? When the cat didn't die And that's the little boy? Yeah So why didn't he die? Was it because he had nine lives? They put a potion. Oh, okay.

Like a magic potion? I think I've seen that movie before. And who was your favorite person in the movie? Your favorite character? The witch is in the cat? Any witch that you like the most? No. They were all good together, huh?

Yes. All right, cool. Well, Caitlin, what's your favorite scary movie of everyone? Um, Babaduke. What? Oh, that's a good one. Have you seen that? Yes.

What did you think about it? Good and a little bit. Gary and I fell asleep. Ah, you fell asleep, huh? Yeah. You hear that, Brian? Yeah. These girls are like real scary movies.

Yeah, I didn't know we were going to talk about these kind of movies. I fell asleep. A half of it. I woke up. Okay. Well, Caitlin, tell us what did you like about the movie? What was it about? What was the main plot line?

Let the kid in the more, more fire. a lot. Yeah? And that the kid thought, like, that at the end, like, he thought that wasn't his mom, his real mom, until, until he, like, he, like, I don't know, her mom, his mom was possessed. And so was he, and, yeah. Was he kind of a creepy kid? So who was your favorite character in that movie?

The dog? The dog? Yeah. How about the Babaduke? Did you like the Babadupe? No. No? Why not?

He was the bad guy. Geez. Oh, come on. Maybe he was just misunderstood. So that was your favorite one? Yeah. Addison, what's your favorite scary movie ever? Nightmare before Christmas?

Nightmare before Christmas? Oh, that's a good one. Yeah, that's a classic. What's it about? It's about it. It's about a night before Christmas, but then he goes in the store of Christmas, and then he goes into the store with a pumpkin, and then he goes into the store with a pumpkin, and then he went in, and it, and it was Halloween when he went in that door.

Was it Santa Claus in that movie? Yes. And what did they do to Santa Claus? They kidnapped him Why did they kidnap him? Because it was the boogeyman The boogeyman And didn't Jack Skellington want to be Santa Claus

Was he jealous Or he wanted to be able to give gifts to the kids and stuff He wanted to give gifts to the kids Mm-hmm And how did you like that movie It was pretty good Pretty good You said it was your favorite ever

Alright well I want to know what you think about Chucky Have you guys ever seen Chucky before? Yes Yes Yeah everybody Chucky's my favorite Biana tell us about Chucky Do you like him?

Yes Would he be your friend? No He wouldn't be your friend to the end Well what would you do if you saw Chuck Chuckie. Out the house. As fast as you could, huh?

I... Probably smart. ...the Peeble's house. Um, I actually have a Chucky I'm gonna see tonight. And his name... What do you mean? Costume. Ah, good Halloween costume.

So that's your papal, huh? Yes. That would be you. And what about your Mimi? What is she dressing up as? She's gonna be the bride of Chuckie. The bride of Chuckie. The bride of Chuckie.

And what's her name? Tiffany. Tiffany. Tiffany, Mrs. Chucky, huh? Yes. Okay, I want to know who all has seen. I'm going to say another movie. All right, I want to know who all seen it.

Everybody speak up at once if you have, okay? Jaws. Yes! Yeah. Have you seen Jaws? No. You haven't seen it? You need to tell your dad he's slipping.

That's a scary one. That's an all-time classic. Has Izzy seen it? No, she hasn't seen it. What did you guys think about, Jaws? It was on a scale from 1 to 10. I give it like an 8 because, like... That's pretty good.

There's a lot of adventure stuff like the ocean. Mm-hmm. And like a lot of technology back then, but like technology has... how they used to find him. Right. Addison, what did you think about Jaws? I thought about it.

It was, like, there was this guy fishing, and he was like, I got a big one, but then he was actually a shark. That was a real big one, huh? So did he get the shark, or did the shark get him? The boat sank? Mm-hmm. And the water came into the boat, and the shark kind of ate the boat, but then he got saved, and he actually killed the shark. Well, you guys, so you guys have seen jaws, but, uh, Biana, you haven't seen jaws. So have you seen the shallows?

No. No? And have you guys seen the shallows? Yes. Yes. And how does that compare to Jaws? The Shallows is, like, a really long movie. And you would, it would have to take, like, you would want to see, like, what happens next.

Because, like, the shark, she would try to swim from one long to the other, but the shark was right there until, like, this dude came to the beach. Uh-huh. And then he was going to go save her because he was going to grab her backpack, and he was just going to take it. I don't know why. And he was just going to take it. And then you could hear her screaming like, help, help.

And then he went to go help her. And dude, rest in peace. Dude, rest in peace. What is that supposed to mean? He ended up dying. Addison, what did you think about it? The Shadows, it was actually the shark. She tried.

She, it's kind of like dogs when she actually killed a shark too. Mm-hmm. But the part is when she was like, running like Spanish and she was like phone, phone. Telephone, telephono. Yeah. Okay. And then he became dinner, huh? Yes.

That's, so remember kids, don't steal. Right? Brian, what's another one that's big in your household over there? Oh, for Halloween? Yeah. Let's see. I think we watched a Monster House. Have you guys ever seen Monster House?

I don't think we've seen that one. Can you guys tell us about it? It's where these kids, they're exploring this house, is that they can't come in it. That's because it's a neighbor that was across the street. And the house comes alive. So is Monster Trucks a sequel to Monster House? No. I don't think so, right?

Well, that one sounds pretty good. Have you seen any other good ones? Beetle juice. Wow. I heard that's a really, really good movie. Yes. It's super awesome. He sold the trailer.

It's a movie, too. You saw them. Is that the one where you say his name three times and he can come to the real world or something? Yeah. Cool. All right. Well, we've talked about a lot of movies. We've talked about trick or treating. Is there anything else that you guys want to talk about on the podcast before we wrap it up?

Addison, you want to go first? Yeah, I want to talk about my question. What are you going to be for Halloween? That's what we should have asked. That's a great question. Elsa, because I mostly do princesses for Halloween. Elsa from Frozen? Caitlin, what about you?

I'm going to be Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad. Wow, you'll probably be the only girl out there this year with a Harley Quinn costume. You know that? No, I won't. She knows better than that, huh, guys? Izzy, what are you going to dress up as? See, we can be crowning, baby. She's mad about something.

We got another Elsa in the house. Another Elsa, all right. She's in her little Elsa costume right now. Okay. All right. And, Biana, what are you going to dress up as? A nerd. A nerd?

I like it. Yes. Tell your dad to put some pictures on Facebook so we can check that out. He said, okay. So, Vianna, is there anything else that you want to talk about? Uh, no. No? We've covered it all, haven't we?
