Starting point is 00:00:10 victims. For those of you who delight and dread, who fantasize about fear, who glorify gore, welcome. You have found the place where the horror returns. Listeners beware. This podcast contains major plot spoilers and the foulest of language join us in celebrating the old and the new the best and the worst
Starting point is 00:00:51 in horror all to the horror returns I'm Lance and with me as always my co-host Philip Brian Nez is probably going to pop on later especially since we have an 80s movie to cover but let's talk about what's really important.
Starting point is 00:01:18 Tonight we've got a very special guest. Indeed, it's Charles Roseney, aka Cripmaster Chucky from the book of Top Ten Horror List. And Charles, I know you've also worked on many films, including the brand new Night at the Eagle Inn, which we can talk about here in a minute. But, man, we've been talking for a while, dude, back and forth, and we finally got you on.
Starting point is 00:01:43 on. So glad to be on. About a half a year, I think we've been trying to work it out. So, glad to be on. Hey, at least it's you and not the other Tavaris Ellis. So how's it going, everybody? He's going good. Yeah. Still living. Well, Charles, before we jump in, man, we got to give you, got to give you a chance to shout out with what, what you've got going on and kind of let our listeners know who you are and get familiar with you and your, you know, projects before we jump in. So take the floor, man. What's going on? Appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:02:22 Well, I've been in the horror field for a long time. I produced the Dracula tours to Transylvania, the real deal, Romania, Dracula's Castle, Vlad the Impaler, all that good stuff. Oh, shit. Since 1983. Yeah, that was, that's the first thing I've been, I'm sorry, I've been doing tour since 83. and the Dragonics were since 98, and also do ghost tours. So we go to haunted locations around the world like England, the Borley Rectori, Ireland, Scotland, Hungary, Israel, Cuba, on and on, East Germany, Prague. So in a travel business for a long time, going to haunted, scary, spooky, cool places.
Starting point is 00:03:05 And for some years there, I was writing what was called the horror happening newsletters. national horror happenings. And when that went away, I realized that I had a hundred or so top ten lists. Once a month, I would do a top ten list from a horror movie actor, a rock star, a celebrity. They'd give me their top ten favorite horror lists. And during the pandemic, I sat down and said, well, I've got a great horror mailing list. I got a great horror background. I've been in a bunch of horror shorts and movies, go to horror conventions.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Why don't I have a horror book? And I, you know, discipline myself, actually put myself to the computer and finished book during the pandemic. And it's since come out. And it's the book of top 10 horror lists available from www. Book of Top 10 HorrorLists.com with 100 celebrities giving me their, you know, cool top 10 lists. Everyone from William Shatner to Butch Patrick Eddie Munster, one of the Beatles, one of the monkeys, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, baseball Hall of Famers.
Starting point is 00:04:12 Really proud of it. It's getting great reviews on Amazon. And as much as I love, you know, doing the horror movies and being in stuff like you mentioned, Knight and Eagle Inn, being an author is a nice, cool thing to add to the whole resume. No shit, dude. Give us a taste, man.
Starting point is 00:04:28 Give us like an idea of one of the top ten list in there. Sure, sure, sure. So the people are from all over. You know, if you're a pop, culture person, you know, you're getting Ruth Buzzy from Rowan and Marnes laughing. You're getting Pete Best, who was the Beatles' original drummer, you know, Mickey Dolan's from the monkeys. But the late Karen Black, who, you know, we know from, well, we know from a house of a thousand corpses, and we know from trilogy of terror, you know, she was in a lot of cool stuff.
Starting point is 00:05:03 So she gave a top ten list, which I would share with others. when I wanted to get new lists because I thought hers was so good. She didn't just give the list. She would give explanations for each thing. And I'll just give you her list because he really goes into detail. So her top 10 favorite science fiction, sci-fi fantasy and horror films are Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It's Alive. Spirits of the Dead, the 1968 will be amazing.
Starting point is 00:05:33 Unearthly Stranger from 64, the 1931 Dracula. Texas Chainsaw Massacre Dawn of the Dead and a particular Twilight Zone episode with Burgess Meredith but her other two her other two were the Terminator and E.T. Wow!
Starting point is 00:05:54 Which opened up a whole Pandora of discussion because on the cover of the book I've got a lot of classic monsters and I got Pennywise and George Romero, Linda Blair. And they also have King Kong and, you know, when I do library signings and I do conventions, it comes up all the time. Is King Kong a horror movie?
Starting point is 00:06:13 Is Jaws a horror movie? They both are. They both are. That's my rule of thumb is if it scares you, right? And even if you're a kid and you see King Kong on that big screen and it scared you in the day, yeah, it definitely is. Whether E.T. is or not, well, that's up to a person's opinion. I'm going to say no.
Starting point is 00:06:32 Right, right. That's a tough one. We had to give her a lot of leeway for that. And Terminator was the other one. That is indeed a horror movie. It's certainly science. You know, it's science fiction. And if her list embodied both science fiction, sci-fi and horror,
Starting point is 00:06:49 well, then definitely Karen Black gets to do that. Hey, she's earned that right for sure, right, Brian? Yeah, and I would say that first Terminator movie is almost like a slasher. Oh, yeah. that one's definitely horror. And certainly great horror effects, you know, and subsequent ones, you know, the, the, the, um, the CGI on that was really breakthrough stuff. And Dick Miller was in it, too.
Starting point is 00:07:17 Oh, right. Right. The great Dick Miller, absolutely. Good old Dick. Yeah. And any, anytime you're killed listening to music through Sony Walkman, you know, that's a horror movie. Oh, man. Well, dude, we really appreciate you joining.
Starting point is 00:07:33 You know what? I really wish we'd all had a chance to watch the film that you recommended. How did you get involved in that, dude? You've been in a few films. Yeah, you know, I'm in Connecticut. And so when I go to New York, if there's casting stuff, that's usually national stuff. I mean, I played Elton John on HBO's Flight of the Concord. I've been in stuff.
Starting point is 00:07:57 Holy shit, dude. You know Ticoa Wattiti? Yeah, I got some. some legit cred, you know, I'm IMDB. But, you know, I'd love to, someone calls locally and says, hey, I'm doing this 10-minute horror movie. I'd love you to die in it. I'm there.
Starting point is 00:08:14 I drop out. Nice. Those are the best scenes. Of course. There's a company in Connecticut called Scared, Stiff TV. Doug is a great friend, and he's been doing a lot of really cool horror work. And I was casting a few of his things. I was in Welcome Matt's as a vampire,
Starting point is 00:08:31 the confessional as a zombie. I mean, this is what we live for, right? And there's something called the zombie chronicles, which was a multi-episode, the thing that he did. And I get to be shot in the head in it. Spoiler alert. But it's so cool because the effect looks good. And, you know, to die in a film, I mean, that's like,
Starting point is 00:08:54 that was dreams come true. And I get killed in a crowbar up the neck in a psycho movie called pink eye and I get shot in the neck in another horror movie from Scared Stiff I forgot which one it was already and I get stapled to death in the
Starting point is 00:09:12 head in a movie called Tiny's October 31st just cool stuff and Night of the Eagle In came about because I became friends with the movie producer Eric Blumquist who's done some really great stuff and continues
Starting point is 00:09:28 to put out great things and he's very prolific and very, very talented. And we struck up a friendship. And he felt that I would be right for this part. In a million years, I would not have cast myself in. I play, I don't want to call it, drag queen, but I play what's called the debutante. The debutante.
Starting point is 00:09:48 And it's a psycho who you get to see this person on screen in a TV monitor. And I'm just saying the weirdest things. I'm so pretty. Do you channel Divine at all? Yeah, you know, I didn't think of Divine when I was doing it. I just sort of try to get out of person and see how wacky I can be. I think that what I love to do is go over the top with things because anyone can, I think anyone can act. You guys would be put you in a movie, you're going to act.
Starting point is 00:10:20 But if you can overact... It might be badly, but we're going to act. You can go into a show and you will be awesome. but you might not have enough. And for a producer or director or someone on set to try to get more out of you, I think is a lot tougher than toning you down.
Starting point is 00:10:39 So if I go over the top, I was in something called Dead Survivors and I played this whacked out a professor, scientist kind of guy. And with all the sound effects out of my mouth. And I said she's going to really, the producer Michelle Plunkett,
Starting point is 00:10:55 the director's going to really tone me down. She's not going to, let me go this much over the top. And she did. And I always think if I'm over the top, they can tone me down. But if I'm not there, they're going to say, wait, you know, maybe he's not right for this. Maybe we need someone who has more acting chops or more personality. So I just kind of over-inject the personality whenever possible. Oh, you probably should have worked for Kubrick, man I would have loved to
Starting point is 00:11:24 my only great I guess the production director credit is ready for this Scorsese directed me in a Rolling Stones
Starting point is 00:11:35 film called Shine the Light and I get but it's just a cameo it's just an extra role I get to put the
Starting point is 00:11:43 you were there that's all that matters and he was on the set and De Niro comes to the set and everyone's going oh Bobby's here
Starting point is 00:11:51 Bobby's. I'm like, who to ask, who's Bobby? Bobby, who's Bobby? I'm thinking it's, Bobby. I'm thinking it's Howie Mandel's character in that voice. Where's Bobby? And De Niro walks on the set. And everyone everyone's like mouth pops. We're all just like, we're not worthy kind of thing. And he goes over to, you know, to Corsese, what are you working on? Well, this is the Stones movie, blah, blah, blah shot at the Beacon Theater. So, yeah, that's, you know, that's a pretty much, those are the claim to fames. All right. Well, Brian, you checked out the new movie, man.
Starting point is 00:12:28 Give us a little review, man. Be honest. I liked it for what it was. I mean, it definitely had the little creepy vibes in it, you know, abandoned hotel, twins go in there, spend the night to trying to figure out what happened to their missing father. And, yeah, I'm not staying at that hotel. Definitely. I'm not signing my name on any ledgers or anything. I don't care if it's hotel tradition or not. I'm not doing it. You're not checking in. I couldn't check out.
Starting point is 00:13:04 All right. Well, Charles, where all is that movie available? It's called Night at the Eagle Inn, right? Yeah, boy, I don't know. I think it's everywhere, right? Yeah, a bunch of streaming services. I don't think it's free to anywhere anywhere. but it's worth watching. It's like, I think a lot of the reviews are calling it like an extended Twilight Zone episode. And that's kind of accurate. It's just, it's a little more intense than that. And I think the acting is really great.
Starting point is 00:13:31 Aside from myself, everyone else is doing a great acting role. And I'm glad I'm really fun. The last time I checked Rotten Tomatoes, it was 82%. So that ain't bad. That's great. That is, yeah, wow. Yeah, see, because they can. cast me in it. That's why. That's it. That was the X factor. All right, Charles. Well,
Starting point is 00:13:54 you're new to the show, dude, but I think you've heard a few of our episodes. So, as you know, first segment we jump into is Cool of the Week. It can be the coolest movie, TV show, video game, Broadway play, concert, album. Dude, it's totally up to you. What is your cool of the week? It's a tie. It's a tie. I knew I was coming. And we've had those before. I knew I was coming on, and I thought we might be talking about Night of Eagle. So I wanted to, like, review some of Eric Blumquist's other works. And he had done a vampire movie called 10 Minutes to Midnight in 2020. Oh, nice.
Starting point is 00:14:33 With Carolyn Williams from one of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. So I watched and loved that. And that was the first time I had seen it. But there was something I watched again because my kids were, finally, I've been telling them I want them to, you know, sit through a longer, horror, you know, for lack of a Betty, we used to call them miniseries. And it was a Legend of Hill House on Netflix. Oh, yes, yes.
Starting point is 00:14:59 And I watch it with my teens, and I thought, you know, there's some slow parts. This was after the summer a few months ago forcing them to watch the whole get back eight hours. And they loved the Beatles get back and I was blown away. They loved Legend of Hill House even more. and I love them for it. You know, when my kids appreciate that kind of stuff,
Starting point is 00:15:22 one gave it a nine, one gave it a 10. So that was my cool of the week. Very nice. Very nice. Well, that's been on here before. So we're going to list 10 minutes to midnight, if that's okay. Definitely. Eric will be pleased.
Starting point is 00:15:38 I'll send him a link to this. All right. Brian, you want to jump in? Yeah, I only got to, I guess I'll start at the bottom. every week from here on now you're going to hear me talk about a new Amityville movie oh no
Starting point is 00:15:54 yeah I'm gonna go through the list I found a list and it sounds like a bad idea so far there's only about what two dozen yeah that came out last year yeah
Starting point is 00:16:06 this this week it was Amityville cop this one I cannot recommend there's not enough kills. It kind of felt like it was
Starting point is 00:16:21 drawn out and which was crazy because the movie's a little over an hour. There was one person I did like in the cast. He was supposed to be like the funny detective because I felt like his acting was more natural.
Starting point is 00:16:37 Yeah. Like you don't like it? It just sounds horrible. This is not Emineville Wolf Cop Sounds horrible, dude It wasn't as bad as Amityville in the Hood
Starting point is 00:16:50 Or Amityville Uprising You can hear our review On Amityville Uprising On Action Returns Because we were highly disappointed It might be Lance might be bottom 10 already Uh-oh
Starting point is 00:17:02 That way it was this year Yeah And it was a lion's gate film too Well at least our friend Jen Nangle Was in Amityville in the Hood so we can't diss it too much. No, support her, go watch it.
Starting point is 00:17:17 But my cool of the week is a new home invasion movie called C for me. You guys heard of this one? Is it on Netflix? No, it's streaming VOD. I have heard of it. Phil ascend, dude, what's it about? Essentially, it's a lady house sitting. She's blind.
Starting point is 00:17:39 And people, of course, you know, break in. looking for something and she's using this app called C for me, which is basically she's FaceTiming with somebody like an operator and they're, you know, seeing for her using the phone and trying to help her. That sounds pretty cool. Yeah, trying to help her get out and get safe and which was real cool. The lead actress that was blind is actually blind. So it added a little authenticity, I thought, to it.
Starting point is 00:18:13 And that was a pretty good little home invasion thriller, if anybody's into that. So that's my cool little week. Well, guys, I got to interject. I was at the Horroville Convention in Florida last weekend. And one of the special guests was Felissa Rose from Sleepaway Camp. And we were talking about what things. She gave me a top 10 list for my next book. And what scares you and what things scare you the most?
Starting point is 00:18:41 And she said, home invasion. movies and it triggered. And I said, you know what? The only movie that ever gave me nightmares, and it's amazing that you're mentioning this, this see for me movie. The only one that ever gave me nightmares was a film called Wait Until Dark with Audrey Hepburn. And Alan Arkin was the invader. And that whole night, man, people were breaking into my house in the middle of the night. And I was dreaming. They were coming through the window. And it's another movie about a, you know, a sightless female, just having to survive somehow. It made me think of that when you mentioned this new movie,
Starting point is 00:19:21 and I want to go see that. Nice. Yeah. Sounds good. All right. Was that it for Brian? Yeah, I only had two this week. Short week for Brian, Phil.
Starting point is 00:19:35 Yeah, you'll get another Amityville movie next week. Amityville Sharks. Probably. That is on the list. Amityville Shark Priest. I think the next one I'll be talking about next week has to do with a werewolf. That's even better. All right.
Starting point is 00:19:53 I've just got a TV series this week. I do too. I'm happy that old Mando is back in town. Yeah. No spoiler alerts, but you know who's coming. So that was fun. I checked out yellow jackets. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:14 we're loving that dude what do you think it's pretty interesting yeah yeah so i'm i'm excited they boy they leave you on a cliffhanger though oh at the end you are you made it all the way through yeah oh yeah i'm two episodes down so shh well it doesn't matter there it's it's a cliffhanger and it sucks oh man this is i really want to see the next episode yeah and yep and i'm still uh still sticking with Peacemaker, man. It's a funny show. Love it. Love it.
Starting point is 00:20:48 Come on. It's great. So I'm excited where that's going. Even despite his rant on every possible pop culture name he could come up with. I love it. Yellow Jackets is 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Is it? Is it?
Starting point is 00:21:08 Yeah. It's pretty cool. It takes a minute to get there. Yeah, I don't know about 100. I mean, it's goddamn good, but wow, is it the next breaking bad that I'm not so sure of, you know? Showtime's second must-watch show outside of Dexter. That's saying a lot. They took some twists and turns I didn't expect, so you'll get there.
Starting point is 00:21:35 All right, I get two more episodes to go. So now I'm going to, as is normal for me, I'm going to step in and be the afternoon. here. And I'm going to get a lot of booze and a lot of hate. But you know what? God damn it. I went and got AMC Plus because I figured, okay,
Starting point is 00:21:54 they got that Christmas special going on. It's like $1.99 a month for a year. And I went and looked for Fear of the Walking Dead to try to find the old episodes because I quit it like season five. It just got too cumbersome. And lo and behold, I just bought AMC Plus.
Starting point is 00:22:13 It's been on Hulu this whole time, which I already have. So, I am about two-thirds through season five of Fear of the Walking Dead. No, season six of Fear of the Walking Dead. I've got to tell you, I absolutely love it. This TV show merges two of my favorite genres, which is zombies and the Western. So you've got a lot of Western elements in this. You've got a lot of cowboys and cowgirls with their six shooters and their cowboy hats and the wild, wild west and a lot of stuff in the, you know, deserts of Texas and the deserts of the West Coast. And I just love this show.
Starting point is 00:22:56 And I think it's got some great talent. And I've definitely gotten some people on when I've been posting stuff on Facebook that said, don't even go there, give it up. And I've got a lot more people, though, that have said, yeah, stick with it. make your own, you know, decision. Personally, I love it. I really do. I like that merging of, you know, kind of like the Wild Bunch mixed with Night of the Living Dad.
Starting point is 00:23:23 So right now I'm loving it. So my cool of the week is, of course, it'll change next week, but my cool of the week is fear of the walking dad. So, Brian, you got new horror headlines for us, man. I got a few. I start with some TV news. Production finally begins on Mike Flanagan's new Netflix series based on Edgar Allan Poe, and it's called The Fall of the House of Usher. He is the talk of tonight's episode, right, Charles?
Starting point is 00:23:55 Absolutely. I haven't seen, what's the third one, after Bly, the recent one? Midnight Mass. Haven't seen that yet. Really looking forward to seeing that. Oh, you need to. That was my favorite TV show of last year. Great. And, yeah, I'm so psyched to hear he'll be tackling Po. Because the last one I remember is Vincent Price, right? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:21 Sure. Cool. It's been a while. All right. Moving on. Nick Stahl joins the cast of Showtime's Let the Right One in series adaptation. Is that really finally? Dude, you told us about this five years ago.
Starting point is 00:24:37 It was like our third episode ever, and I was really, re-editing them. Charles, little inside info. I'm not going to tell you who it was, but a certain major music label totally fucked us because we put snippets of music,
Starting point is 00:24:54 their music, in our podcast. Yeah. And I'm, yeah, dude, I'm having to literally go back and re-edit every single episode
Starting point is 00:25:01 and take all the musical cues out. Oh, how ridiculous. It's amazing. But I did... I'm, what are they going to sue for? You know what?
Starting point is 00:25:09 Yeah, we don't have shit. But it was, it is kind of interesting because that was something that we covered really early on. So anyway, Brian, go ahead. Yeah, I want to say production is already begun or is about to begin. I think this was a last minute addition to the cast. So it's really happening. Waiting at least five years minimum for this series. Yeah. This is a little bit of news that was sent to me. Samuel Gonzalez Jr. will direct a James Dean horror movie called Little Darling. A James Dean
Starting point is 00:25:51 Horror movie. I'm curious to see how that's going to work. The fuck? So for more information, go follow Samuel Gonzalez Jr. I believe he's on Facebook and Twitter. Wow. So they're going to be at a... planetarium and there's going to be a slasher there, right?
Starting point is 00:26:13 I don't know, but I'm intrigued. I mean, I seems weird to me, but I wanted to put those things together, but no, let's moving on to movie news, Kieran Shipka, people may know her as Sabrina from the Netflix series
Starting point is 00:26:31 and Eric Banna joined the cast of Ridley Scott's cult film Berlin Nobody. Oh. Okay. All big names. Yeah. Good actors.
Starting point is 00:26:45 I mean, yeah, Ridley Scott. He's going to pull some stuff. But we'll see. Usually his stuff's pretty good. How old is Ridley Scott, Charles? He's got to be pushing 90, right? No. No?
Starting point is 00:26:58 Is he that old? And wait, why did you ask Charles that? I'm not pushing 90. Let's ask the old guy on the panel tonight. That would be me, probably. he's 80 he's 84 so he's close okay well yeah he's got a ways to go pushing 90
Starting point is 00:27:20 all right John LaRourke Larraquette I don't know I'm gonna say his name yeah he is Texas Chainsaw Massacre Segway into that he will return to narrate the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel for Netflix
Starting point is 00:27:37 What do you think about that Charles Cool. I'm, you know, a big Texas guy. Actually, I mentioned this is all, this is all kismet. It's all tying together here. When I was at Harville last weekend, I was with John Dugan, who was a grandpa in the original, Alan Danziger, who was Jerry. Holy shit. It was three of the guys, and it's so cool. We hung out in one of those conventions where there's not a million people, so I was a vendor across from them selling my book and promoting the book. and signing copies. So it was a lot of interaction with the guests among ourselves hanging out a lot. So just, you know, Texas Chains, I mean, anything they do, anything with that name, I will watch, unlike Amityville, I will watch everything Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Charles, are you going to be at Texas Frightmare this year?
Starting point is 00:28:34 I'm not. I think it conflicts with another event. I think we're 50-50 right now. Yeah, one of these years, I hope to. I'm only really, since the book came out, really trying to get to as many shows as possible, obviously. But even though I'm a guest at these events, that usually means they'll give me a table. Sometimes I'll get a hotel maybe, but never a flight. So, you know, you got to weigh it. If I sell 100 books, it makes sense.
Starting point is 00:29:04 Here's the business aspect of things. You know, if I meet enough of the celebs who are really cool and want to give me top 10 lists for the next book, great, it's worth the trip. But if it's a show where I'm selling a dozen books and I'm sitting at the table twiddling my thumbs, definitely not the Texas show. I mean, that's up there with the best of them,
Starting point is 00:29:25 and I probably would do great. But for some reason, I think there's a conflict that date, yeah. Nice. And finally, Lee Daniels, who's known for The Butler and Precious, closes a $65 million deal for his upcoming Untitled Exorcism movie with Netflix I thought that was a very odd choice
Starting point is 00:29:50 Which this might explain why We got our Netflix Rate up Again? Yeah, I think it's going to go up another dollar Before you know it Netflix is going to be 100 bucks a month Well, you've got to pay the rock all his money
Starting point is 00:30:08 well I mean you know what I'm not complaining we're to go back to talking about midnight mass for me that alone was worth the price of admission for the whole year but they do keep raising their rates yeah but I'm intrigued this another person I wouldn't have expected to do this type of film not at all
Starting point is 00:30:35 is he titling at the long night Just a little segue for you guys there. And on that note, that was the movie. So let's segue to the trailer part. All right. Well, so Charles, where do you live, man? What part of the country? I live in New Haven, Connecticut.
Starting point is 00:31:05 I'm originally from the Bronx. where I get my sassy from, but yeah, I'm in New England. Yeah, I don't think you'll have any trailer parks in the Bronx, right? If they are, there can be nothing scarier than a trailer park in the Bronx. How about a trailer park in New Haven, Connecticut? There's tons of them, believe me. All right, then you're on board. So we're going to take a little trip down to the trailer park.
Starting point is 00:31:33 Brian is going to bring us the big, the small, and sometimes they're very, very weird, and I did not see either one, so you guys are all in and I'm all out tonight. All right, we will start with The Long Night Charles. Synopsis from IMDB is a devoted couple's quiet weekend takes a bizarre turn when a nightmare's cult and their maniacal leader come to fulfill an apocalyptic prophecy. This stars Scout Taylor Compton, which I think I read. She's only gone by Scout Compton now. Nolan, Gerald Funk, Jeff Fahey, and Deborah Kara Unger. This is directed by Rich Ragsdale and written by Robert Shep and Mark Young. So throw it to Charles first.
Starting point is 00:32:25 What did you think? Well, isn't it interesting that the word apocalyptic? How do you say that? I can't pronounce. Apocalyptic. Thank you. It applies to this trailer and one of the films we're going to be discussing, which is cool.
Starting point is 00:32:41 The themes continue here. You know, I just, what a shock. A couple moves into an area and things happen, really. I thought it was very derivative, but I couldn't tell really from the trailer if it went to different places. You know, it seems like there's a little exorcist in there. There's a little conjurator. there. There's a little of everything. It looked like a mishmash. But, you know, the acting look cool. And I think that it has potential. It's one of those trailers that didn't sell me, but intrigued me enough that I have to watch it when it comes out.
Starting point is 00:33:17 Yeah. The not selling part is the one that got me. I was like, ah, it looks like it's probably going to be cool. Or it could be like a hundred other horror movies. Yes. Right. Of course, I'm going to be the one that also gives it a chance. This has got a little bit of a cult theme, a little bit of a supernatural feel to it, and definitely I've always enjoyed Scout Taylor Compton, and I do like Jeff Fahey, even though I don't believe I saw him in the trailer, so it might be just a small cameo role. But definitely give it a try. This movie comes out, I believe VOD. February 4th.
Starting point is 00:34:06 Cool. And on to the second and final trailer, which is called the curse. Again, going to IMDB for the synopsis. In rural 19th century, sorry, in a rural 19th century, France, a mysterious possibly, supernatural menace threatens a small village, John McBride, a pathologic, pathologics. I can't say, I cannot talk tonight. Comes to town to investigate the danger and exercise some of his own demons in the process. This stars Boyd Holbrook, which he was in that awful predator movie, the last one that came out.
Starting point is 00:34:53 Kelly Riley, Alistair Petrie, Roxanne Duran, and this is written and directed by Sean Ellis. Go to you, Phil, this time. Uh, this one, I thought actually does look pretty interesting. Although it also looks like there's a ton of shit going on on. And I didn't know whether it was going to be a series or a movie, but then they called the film. So I'm like, ah, that's a lot of shit. Just try to stick into two hours, because it looks like you got all kinds of monsters. That's where I got confused.
Starting point is 00:35:26 Is it a killer scarecrow? Is it something to do with the weird vampire teeth-looking thing? Right. is it a swamp monster Like they gave it Enough just in the preview to be like I don't know how they're going to make that fit Yeah and then the
Starting point is 00:35:45 The scene where the Lady's doing she's hanging laundry And something's rushing through the brush It kind of felt like it was a wolf for a second So I'm very confused on this one Yeah maybe some werewolves It looks like they got a lot of different shit going on Charles
Starting point is 00:36:03 I was very intrigued by it. I hope it's more of a straightforward horror film than more than a midsummer type of a, you know, brainy elitist horror movie. I don't know if I'm describing that right. You know, the advanced horror kind of stuff. The elevated horror? Elevated. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:26 That's the vibe I got, but that might be just what they're trying to project by the trailer. the scene outdoors that you mentioned where she's hanging at her laundry and it's coming up through yeah that gave that made me think Warwolf as did the title um but you don't know if that's you know just trying to put you in a different direction um i want to see it i think it's got potential it certainly intrigued me more than the first one and um uh hopefully hopefully to live up to the mystery of its trailer i didn't give too much away and that was good All right, and this one is also a February release, the 18th. So I believe this is also VOD.
Starting point is 00:37:10 And that is the last trailer. Yeah, of course, I'll check it out too. Of course. Right along with my 100 Amityville movies. You do this to yourself. I know, but I take it for the team. so you guys don't have to. We didn't even like the first Amityville, and Nas gave it a 10.
Starting point is 00:37:37 They probably hadn't seen it in 30 years. I'm sure they've all gone way downhill since that one. All right. On to listener feedback. This week for the podcast Spotlight, we shine our light on the Final Guys Horror Podcast. The Final Guys Horror Podcast covers all genre topics ranging for movies, books, games, and much more. We love horror and discuss it with a humorous slant.
Starting point is 00:38:07 Hopefully. Find it where you get your podcast. Check out the final guys for one of the hosts, Jason Brandt. He's got a pretty good YouTube channel where him and his friends, they sit and drink and review movies and rate it if it's shit or so bad it's good. So gave me some ideas. for our is it really that bad series so we haven't done one of those in a while so be be prepared all right they better be good um regarding in the earth rob forest uh says was this
Starting point is 00:38:50 actually good audience score is only 24% on rotten tomatoes eish i i gave it a second watch i I can't get into it. I tried. I gave it a second. You gave it a second watch? No, but I really wanted to like it. I've only seen it the one time, but not my cup of tea, man.
Starting point is 00:39:13 Isn't that the one that's kind of like Gaia? Yeah. A little bit, yeah. Not as good. Okay, yeah, Gaia did it better. Although, I don't think it was 24% bad. No. I couldn't tell you what happened in it, but, you know.
Starting point is 00:39:29 Oh, we are getting something different from Ben Wheatley. He's doing the Meg, too. No. That's a joke. As long as Jason Statham is there. Ben Wheatley is directing the Meg two. With Jason Statham? He is returning to Star.
Starting point is 00:39:49 And I am all in. Charles, do you believe what you're hearing? It's a misprint. Yeah, that's weird. The Rock is going to come in and play the shark. That's like Kubrick directing Jim Carrey or something. I mean, come on. That I would like.
Starting point is 00:40:09 It could be brilliant, right? There's your over-actor. All right. Regarding, here you go. Another Texas chainsaw, the next generation. Mike Batchelor says, the exquisite acting of Matthew McConaughey in this movie is tremendous. That is.
Starting point is 00:40:29 one of the only reasons you should watch this movie i like that i like this movie man i really do i've got a soft spot in my heart for for this uh rene zellweger was in it too right yeah she's she's you know she's in it but it's matthew mcconahey and then his weird girlfriend that thinks she has the the microchip in her head yeah mccanahey's got like a weird like a phony leg or a fake arm He's got like a brace on his leg that's for some reason controlled by a remote control. I don't know why you would want that. Oh, man, that's another so bad. It's good, though.
Starting point is 00:41:11 Well, y'all know my favorite Texas Chainsaw Masker movie is two. I can see that. Nothing can pass that one. Two is pretty great. And we got Craig Arons. Says, here's a fun thought. Watch the horror film David S. Spinoza and I produced the Crumbs.
Starting point is 00:41:31 Dr. Benjamin Crum and his family run a bed and breakfast in the woods where the family performs procedures. On some of the under the guests. Okay. Watch it for free on Tooby TV. There's your magic word free. Yeah. Tube TV. Yeah, on Tooby, the Roku channel and YouTube.
Starting point is 00:41:52 Bye. I hope you enjoy it. All right. Guys, can I throw something out? Do you equate? Do you equate Matthew McConaughey being in Texas Chainsaw the way you would see what's this, Ryan Reynolds in the Amityville 2005? No.
Starting point is 00:42:13 No. Ryan Reynolds wasn't as silly in that, you know what I mean? Yeah, I'm just on that. But I see your point, but the people who became bigger stars thereafter. Yeah, yeah, but Ryan Reynolds, he at least tried to play it. I think. You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah. And not since any movie, not in any movie since then.
Starting point is 00:42:36 Right. Now he just plays Ryan Reynolds. Yep. I did watch the Crumbs. Oh, you did? Yeah, it's fine for what it is. I felt like it ran a little too long. It was almost two hours.
Starting point is 00:42:54 Oh, wow. What did intrigue me is I'm, I'm, want to do some digging into this movie. It's supposedly based on historical events. Oh, shit. So I will be looking into it. But yeah, it's on Tooby for free. So check it out, support.
Starting point is 00:43:12 Well, it's giving me second thoughts on my vacation, which was going to be a bed and breakfast in the woods. Well, if you have a reservation in this place, you're okay. Oh, all right. Oh, it's just people who just show up, right? Yeah, yeah. How would they just show up in the woods? This is the one, yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:33 It's people like, you know, traveling that want to, you know, take a break from driving and they'll show up or. This looks interesting. Dr. Benjamin Kramm. Okay. No, I'm actually kind of into this. I might actually check. I might actually check this out tonight when we get done recording. All kidding aside.
Starting point is 00:43:54 Yeah. I'm looking at the at the IMDB page. It looks. really interesting. Yeah. Like I said, support independent filmmakers. All right.
Starting point is 00:44:06 And regarding I saw the devil, Marcus Will Turner says, Smok? I think it's supposed to be a kiss sound. I think it's muck. A masterpiece. Like a chef's kiss. That was
Starting point is 00:44:25 probably one of the best movies that I was introduced to from this show. I saw the devil. I love that movie. It's a good one. And we have a winner. Dude, we only had 10 emails received in our contest, guys. We should add more.
Starting point is 00:44:42 God damn it. Charles, why didn't you email us, man? I did under different names. I guess I didn't win. Oh, for fun. He was the other, man. All right. Next time.
Starting point is 00:44:52 Next time. But our winner is the real Tavaris Ellis. The bars, congratulations. Your horror return t-shirt should arrive soon. It's going to show up at the address of that guy that popped under the show. Are they those same fuckers that called me? Who is this? And that's it for listener feedback.

Starting point is 00:45:47 Yeah. The real tomorrow's. Yeah. Who are we kidding? They both get one. Yeah. What's up, Naz? Is he here?
Starting point is 00:46:00 I think so. Just in time for the movies, but I could be wrong. That's how Ness works. Yo, what up, babies? How do you time it's so good that you show up when it's time for the movies? Because you know this, man. Just got out of work or just got home. Real quick, before we get into the movies.
Starting point is 00:46:22 Cool of the week. Oh, I started, it's an old show. I don't know. I think there's three seasons. I started a true detective, season one on HBO. That's a good one, man. Great season. Oh, man, with Woody and Matthew McConaughey. We were just talking about him.
Starting point is 00:46:46 Yeah, not as good as performance. Alex entered the Darias bear breast. Oh, yeah. One of the best scenes she's ever done. Yeah, I didn't know she was in it. Envious of Woody Hurlson. Well, they don't call him Woody for nothing. it was good to see them team up again since Ed TV
Starting point is 00:47:05 but yeah that show I cannot stop watching I think I got one and a half more episodes nice so you saw the you saw the single shot episode where they ran through the ghetto and they basically had the camera doing one single shot for about probably 15 minutes was that the one when um when they went in there and
Starting point is 00:47:30 in that black neighborhood and then they were just shooting everyone they got in the way and all that. It was amazing. Yeah. It was like watching a video game. Yeah, that movie. That part was tough, man. I was wanting a little more of that, but we didn't get anymore. But yeah, that's as far as anything new. That's all I've been watching because we haven't had any
Starting point is 00:47:58 new theater movies so I just started with TV and still doing the other shows for action returns and stream themes but I just could not get enough of true detective so I just kept watching that over and over or just trying to buzz through as much as I could all week so I'm looking forward to the next season because I keep seeing a clip of was it Colin Farrell beating up some dude's father in front of his house. Yeah. It gets a lot worse. But he, I will say, he was a standout in that season, Colin Farrow.
Starting point is 00:48:40 Did you see those, Charles? I did not. It's one of those that, yeah, slipped by and never got to. Yeah, I'll just say watch the first season and skip the rest, but that's just my opinion. I never finished the third one. Unlike, what's the one that you can't get through the second season, NAS, because it's about the ship docks. Oh, the wire?
Starting point is 00:49:04 Yeah, the wire. I'm trying so hard to get through season two with that, man, so I can get to the really good ones. But they say Idris Elba is a number one amazing through that entire series. Finally being considered for James Bond. Oh, I thought they were going to go with the Giles. call that five years ago so he's getting a little long of the tooth now yeah he can still do it he can still do it i think that gal from the last one was supposed to be the next no she's bond or whatever
Starting point is 00:49:36 she's gonna be an agent but she's not going to be james bond uh um be a weird name for her well we'll see but yeah true detective man it's i'll give it to any of these guys that do these type of cases and everything, man. It's just the stuff they have to deal with, the stuff they see. The part that kind of got me was when, spoiler to anyone, I haven't seen it, but when Matthew McConaughey finally got back in touch with Woody and was showing him all the stuff that he had collected evidence-wise, and then he showed him that videotape of those dudes doing stuff with kids, I was like, oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:50:22 Oh, man. It's wild, and I just cannot stop watching. I've been binging through it at work. So, I mean, a lot of it, I mean, you really don't need to see. I was just listening to it mainly, but just what was happening, it just kept my attention the whole time. So that's how I was just zipping through this season. But, yeah, that's my cool of the week. I haven't seen anything else.
Starting point is 00:50:51 and Brian, I tried that Amityville cop, and I got like 20 minutes in. I was like, oh. We'll eventually get to that. I was tired. Dude, at some point you have to go, you know what? I only have so many hours left in my life. I don't want to watch this.
Starting point is 00:51:10 Oh, shit. Yeah. Man. It's like none of us are getting any younger, right? Well, there's like a billion Amityville movies, so. I'm going to talk about one every week. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:23 Oh, yeah? As long as it goes. I know there's more coming. Charles, you want to join that podcast with him? Sure, absolutely. I want to know when they hit space, unless they already have. They'll meet the Lepricon and Jason there. But, yeah, I mean, that Amityville series is still waiting for Amityville Karen and
Starting point is 00:51:48 Amityville Shark and Amityville Bigfoot. shout out to Shansy Phillips but yeah true detective cool the week all right well speaking of Leprecon in space we'll move on to our featured attractions we've got a the first one is Dead End Drive-In
Starting point is 00:52:08 you'll get the reference the director is Brian Trenchard Smith also known for the man from Hong Kong and Leprecon 4 in space in the near future In the near future, and this is a weird description, I'm not sure if it fits. In the near future, drive-in theaters are turned into concentration camps for undesirable and unemployed. I didn't catch all that.
Starting point is 00:52:34 Yeah, I did. There's like multiples? Okay. The prisoners don't really care to escape because they're fed and they have a place to live, which in most cases is probably better than the outside. Or as they say, Charles, three huts and a cot, right? Sounds like the Bronx to me, guys. Crabs and his girlfriend, Carmen, are put into the camp, and all crabs wants to do is escape and spread.
Starting point is 00:53:07 Writers are Peter Smalley and Peter Carey. Some trivia. The drive-in location seen in this film had closed down when movie was filmed in 1985. The drive-in has now been demolished and no longer exists like most others. That's sad. Apparently, to get the part in this picture, actor Ned Manning allegedly told director Brian Trenchard Smith that he was 24 years old. But in reality, at the time of casting, he was 36 years of age.
Starting point is 00:53:42 Take it for me. I know. When you're 5'6, you can get away with playing a a much younger person than you really are. All right, Charles, you want to take it away? What did you think of dead-end drive-in? Oh, come on, man. So early on, I said I'm not a big fan of apople. Tell me the word, apoplectic, say it. Apocalyptic.
Starting point is 00:54:10 Thank you. I can't say that second word. Not a fan of those, you know, Mad Max. I hated Mad Max. I'm trying to put him right now. Listen, listen, I remember I was doing reviews for, I was helping out my friend who was publishing famous monsters of filmland. He brought it back Philip Kim, and he put out the film downstream in 2010. And I said it was the best of these films, but it was actually a poor man's version of Mad Max.
Starting point is 00:54:44 Matt Max. This is like a, this is an ultra poor man's version, right? Well, this is the footloose. This is the 1980s MTV version of it. Yeah, I know. I hated it. And then I said, oh, my God, and both films going to be this bad. And we'll get to the second one in a second.
Starting point is 00:55:11 But I mean, I like the boobs in it. I thought, you know, that was surprisingly good. I thought the cars in it were cool. I hated the acting. I hated the pacing. You know, and then I read reviews and it's like, oh, my God, it's a bigger picture than that. It's a discussion on society and all that.
Starting point is 00:55:33 Yeah, okay, if it's that, well, then it succeeded in disguising it in this film. But I did not like it at all. I would give it like a two, a two and a half. I really, it just, ugh. Oh, Lance, he's got you beat. We'll see. We'll see. All right.
Starting point is 00:55:54 This will be interesting. Nez, you want to take it on next? Yeah, I forgot. I had seen this when it was new. Why? Well, it was the 80s, man. It saw everything that came out. There was no internet.
Starting point is 00:56:11 No one told us how bad these movies were. We just went and seen them. Which I did say that is driving. Total Mad Max rip-off, Cherry 2000 rip-off. Yes, yes. Man and his dog or whatever kind of rip off, this post-apocalyptic nightmare. Man and his dog, is that where he was talking to the dog? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:34 That was Bill Gibson in it, right? No, it was... Oh, no. Fuck, God damn it. Oh, Miami Vice. Don Johnson. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:56:47 It was of its time. I mean, especially in the 80s. I mean, after Mad Max came out in the 70s and a little before Road Warrior and afterwards, it was like all these post-apocalyptic films were coming out left and right. Like every week there was the Bronx Warriors and then there was this and that. and just everything what was had to happen after some kind of nuclear fallout or whatever
Starting point is 00:57:18 but this one was more of it was just society just kind of went nuts and let's turn this drive in into a party zone but once you get in there you can't you can't get out and then get boring in the middle
Starting point is 00:57:33 and it'll get exciting at the end with the world's longest truck jump or whatever but the characters it is what it is I don't know what year did they say what year this was I don't remember
Starting point is 00:57:46 but it was supposed to be yeah the future it did 1990 I think the future like the near future
Starting point is 00:57:56 or something like that we've done coming past the future and we ain't have none of that shit yet but um it was what it was I was I remember seeing it
Starting point is 00:58:08 and like It was all right, but re-watching it again, it's more just a guilty pleasure and just to laugh at what actually made it to the theater. I mean, for you new jacks out there, a lot of this crappy stuff like this doesn't get to the theater. It gets VOD or ends up on YouTube or whatever. But, I mean, these films were made with, obviously they were trying to think, oh, man, this is going to be the next big thing,
Starting point is 00:58:38 because everyone was making them. And then they put it out. And this one seemed to have a bigger, a bigger take it movie-wise. I mean, because, again, a lot of stuff, even when VHS hit, they were still pumping those movies out. And they were just not hitting anyone. I mean, everyone wanted to copy off of Mad Max and Road Warrior and everything else. And so it was that's what it is.
Starting point is 00:59:08 I mean, even when it started going to space with Space Hunter and Metal Storm and shit like that. I mean, they all had to throw their futurist and crazy Mad Max cars and everything in it. This was just goofy, and I mean, the acting is not great. You can totally tell this guy is not 17 years old. I'm shocked. I thought for sure this was going to be a hell of good, Philip. The dude in the poster wasn't even in the movie. it was just some guy i don't know just some probably just one of the middle-aged punk rockers and
Starting point is 00:59:45 threw it on there um but i like the idea but i was like come on you guys can't get out of this driving but i mean a lot of those people why did they want to leave i mean you can get you getting fed you're getting drugs and then booze and party and you're watching midnight movies and shit like that i mean making fun of the chinese people that are yeah And then bringing in Nazis and all that. And this movie had everything that they, hey, let's, let's whoever said at this roundtable to figure out what they were going to do. Let's do this. Let's do that.
Starting point is 01:00:19 And they threw it all into dead end driving and built some walls around it. And they tried to make it a serious story. And the story is just ludicrous. But with that being said, after this rewatch again, I fucking still love this. movie. It's goofy. And it's stupid, but it is what it is. I mean, it just, it reminds me of sitting in the driving with my friends
Starting point is 01:00:45 laughing and fucking just getting hell of green and powering. Oh, yeah. And watching this dumb movie. I mean, we couldn't drive at the time, but my buddy's brother took us. But it was, it was what it was. And I was just like, man,
Starting point is 01:01:02 can they make something like this today? Yeah, they could. But it's, it hitting the theaters. So, but I mean, I'll give it to this director and whoever and everybody that was a part of it. And I don't know how many cans of spray paint they used because it was like every inch of this theater or drive in and cars and everything had spray paint all over it. Oh, yeah. No shit. And the crazy punk rock, futuristic punk rock wear that everyone's dressed up as.
Starting point is 01:01:32 I mean, I don't know. I don't know. At that point in, what was this, 85 or 86 or what year of this come out? 85. Is that how they thought the future was going to look, how everyone was going to dress? I mean, you can even go look at like back to the future too and how they were supposed to dress. Like, that was like a few years ago. I mean, we don't dress like that.
Starting point is 01:01:55 We don't have laced up shoes that do by herself. But I don't know. I mean, it was like their image of the future. it just makes me laugh. And I'm like, all right, man, whatever. So the movie was what it was. It's goofy. It's stupid.
Starting point is 01:02:10 But it's something... It needed crocodile Dundee in it. That's what it needed. Well, he was out in the Everglades. If they were around the Everglades, he probably would appear somewhere. And then... Well, he was Australian,
Starting point is 01:02:24 and he was the big star from there at the time. I wasn't really paying attention, but was there any Foster's beer in this movie? Yes. when the guy opened up the toolbox in the projection room. Oh, okay, all right. What were those fosters? Yeah, he shared a beer of fosters with him.
Starting point is 01:02:42 Yeah. Fosters beer. Yeah, which are Australian listeners tell us is like considered piss now. Yeah, Australia for beer. But yeah, it is what it is. It's fun. And this is one of those movies. Like, if we were all together, here, throw this in, and then we just cut the shit up up and record it.
Starting point is 01:02:59 This would have been better for a commentary. right? Yeah, I mean, it is what it is. It's goofy. It's stupid, but it's dead and driving. It says it right there in the title. And yeah, the poster is misleading, everyone. That guy is not in it. Because when I remember seeing the poster thinking, all right, is this guy going to be killing people? Yeah, I thought he's going to be a slasher. Yeah, and first of all, this is not a horror movie. This should have been more of an action returns. Action returns, yeah. I agree. Oh, we're doing, we're doing ozploitation, so. Okay.
Starting point is 01:03:32 But yeah, I mean, again, but again, I enjoy it. I mean, it is what it is. Yeah, dead and driving. All right. Brian? I'm with Nez. I enjoyed it. I think they, yeah, I don't think it was a serious story.
Starting point is 01:03:51 I think there was a serious message in there, wrapped around with a whole bunch of fucking goofy shit. But I dug it, you know. And I think Australia, I think they'd really fucking do. like apocalyptic dystopian future pretty good because a lot of these movies it seems to be set
Starting point is 01:04:10 in Australia and shit's all fucked up um I dug the just the wackiness of the characters uh I kind of took me out with the whole racist against Asians thing
Starting point is 01:04:27 kind of just because it got introduced and it didn't even go no Well, it just was the bad guys were Nazis. Yeah, but nothing, nothing happened to them. Nothing, they didn't get no comeuppance. Yeah. I mean, the one guy got deep.
Starting point is 01:04:46 No payoff, huh? Yeah. And, you know, there is a lull in the middle, but throughout, you know, you get, a little. A little lull in the middle. It wasn't that much. I mean, you got some boot. you got some boobies in there, so, you know, that'll tide you over. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:07 And then you... They were doing all their hair up in fucking metal braids and shit. Yeah, that was... Yeah, little springs and stuff. You know, you got to use... And I like the whole idea of, you know, like cars and car parts are, like, commodities in the future, and you've got all these rival tow truck guys, you know, trying to get there. That still happens now.
Starting point is 01:05:30 So... I dug all that. That was kind of cool. The ridiculous car chase scene in a parking lot while they were just going in circles. I thought that was kind of ridiculous, but entertaining. You can't go anywhere, mate. It was like, how big was this driving? No shit.
Starting point is 01:05:49 See, more, guys, more connections. Cars going in circles. We had that in the next movie, too. Guys. Oh, man. You see my. plan. You see my plan. In the
Starting point is 01:06:03 But overall, I thought I thought I had a lot of fun with this and I thought this was kind of fit in there with the like a cold classic. And I will be picking this up on Blu-ray. Wow. It is 1495
Starting point is 01:06:19 at Amazon. The Arrow one. Oh, Arrow. So it's going to come with a whole bunch of features. Yep, 1499. If you got Prime, free shipping. Nice. Lance, you're going to bring us back down?
Starting point is 01:06:36 That is $14.99 that I shall not be spending. This movie, it really, really, really got my hopes up. I was so excited to get another Mad Max type movie. And I love classic cars. I love American muscle cars, which they had, you know, I guess they had the steering wheel on, quote, unquote, the wrong side, because they were in Australia. but they were make no mistake.
Starting point is 01:07:02 There was a lot of Chevy's and stuff that I saw in this movie. But for such a great setup and for such a great idea for a movie, it just completely, in my opinion, fell flat. It was just like, wow, okay, you've got this drive-in that they go in. And I did kind of like the special effects at the beginning where they kind of went in there and there was an electric fence and they couldn't get back out. But, and I do understand why they said, you know, $10 for adults and $350 for unemployed or whatever,
Starting point is 01:07:39 which I thought $10 for an adult back in the 80s was a joke. I mean, that's like $50 now, you know. So that was almost like luring them in. I kind of liked our spunky little hero, you know, little five foot, foot six guy like me, you know. Crabs? Yeah, crabs. I kind of liked him at first. I thought I had crabs once, but I didn't in the name.
Starting point is 01:08:06 That story. The greatest story behind a name ever. Just such a downer, such a downer for me, guys. I just, I would have loved to have seen them do a lot more with it. I would have loved to see more car chases inside. I would love to see more fights. You know, people bringing weapons in there and stuff like that. that. But all you really got was just like, okay, you'll leave your car here. And he was, he was
Starting point is 01:08:35 obvious, it was his brother's car. So he was paying really close attention to it. Like, you know, starting the engine every day to make sure it kept running and stuff like that. But they're like his ass when he gets home. Oh, dude. I don't even want to see that that sequel. But, uh, they, they leave the car for five minutes while she's getting her hair done or whatever. And they come back and they're spray paint all over it. And I'm like, holy, fucking shit. I mean, you can't leave anything alone in this place. But I don't know, something about punk rock and Australia and the 80s and 90s. We'll get into the next movie too.
Starting point is 01:09:10 But not as good as I was hoping it was going to be. I think that with the premise, a better director and a better writer probably could have given us a better film. So I wanted to like it a lot more than I did. You know, it was disappointing that that in these kind of movies, there's always some kind of fancy new drug with some weird name.
Starting point is 01:09:35 They didn't have that in this. Ah, that's what was missing. That's what was missing. Okay. Or slow-moder or anything. It sounds like the transitional thing here. You didn't see this when it came out, Lance? No.
Starting point is 01:09:52 No. This was my first watch. Yeah, I might do. I've never seen this piece of shit. I mean, not piece of shit. Oh. Yeah, so, so. But I've never seen this mediocre movie before, but I have listened to the podcast, talk about it,
Starting point is 01:10:08 and I've always heard, it's always very, it really throws you off that the dude that they show on the poster is not even in the movie, and that is kind of weird. So, I don't know. I just expected more. I thought it was a great premise. I thought it was a great first, you know, 10 or 15 minutes to the movie. And after that, it just got really, really slow and really, really boring to me. Marcy and Bede sound like they're going to kill us. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:10:41 I kind of feel it. I feel a disturbance. You got to find out, mate. You got to find out, mate, you fucking cunts. Actually, man, I'm going to bring it back up. I totally expected to hate this movie. Oh, okay. I watched the other one first, and then I was like, ah, 1986, osploitation, this movie's probably going to suck.
Starting point is 01:11:06 And I really enjoyed it, man. Nice, nice, I'm glad. It definitely had some slow parts, and it was way longer than it should have been. But I do think that there was a lot of social commentary there, but it was like vague enough where it could apply to just about anything. Okay. So moral to the story in the end is don't let corrupt government take control. Yeah, that's true. Don't say you're unemployed just to get a cheaper ticket or you'll have to stay.
Starting point is 01:11:39 Keep it simple, Brian. Keep it simple. And no, I really liked what they were saying here and how things went. His girlfriend was a fucking lunatic. and she was pretty hot though yeah well sometimes the crazy ones yeah hot crazy matrix um
Starting point is 01:12:02 and I I like that they had all these different little groups in here it was kind of like little prison groups you know because that's basically what they were in which you know is kind of what
Starting point is 01:12:16 ghettos end up being you know and they're sort of forced that way yep so I think it did say a lot, and I liked it more than I expected it to, or than I expected to. I just, I wasn't expecting much from it when I turned it on. So, happily surprised. Let's do, uh, hold on. Here's what the poster says.
Starting point is 01:12:40 There's a party every day, a movie every night, and all the junk food you can eat. What more can a kid want except to get out? Dead end driving. The price of admission. The price of admission is the rest of, your life. Yeah, it seems there should be a stronger message here from what I got.
Starting point is 01:12:58 With that explanation. I think the tagline's better than the whole movie. Sorry, guys. All right. Charles gave it a 2.5. Nez, what do you give it? I gave it an 8. Oh, shit.
Starting point is 01:13:17 Brian, what do you give it? I mean, the lead characters, name is Crabs. Come on. So I give it us I give it a seven and a half Damn Damn All right Lance
Starting point is 01:13:30 What do you think? Four on ten It wasn't horrible It had some redeeming qualities Four on ten I think Seven and a half is a pretty realistic score Wow
Starting point is 01:13:44 Yeah I like it Zoom So mixed reviews on that one All right Check out Head in, drive-in, if you never seen it. These are both on 2B, by the way.
Starting point is 01:13:56 Yeah, Charles dethrone me for the lowest, lowest man on the totem pole. All right, guys, before you move on, I got to bounce. Ah, okay. We got the 80s movies, so you're good. Yeah, my son came on for, or came on for the weekend, so. All right. His girlfriend's cooking dinner, so I got to get out there. But, yeah, plus I didn't see body melt or.
Starting point is 01:14:22 whatever the hell that one was. So, I would just... You need to. I'd be up here taking space. I'll listen to you guys review once it's out. But everyone, hey, thanks for listening. Definitely check out the latest action returns, as well as the newest stream fiends,
Starting point is 01:14:39 tough turf. Yeah, a lot of dancing. I was expecting dancing in this one, but there was minimal. Minimal dancing. Anyway, yeah, I'll talk to you guys later. I'm out. Peace. Later.
Starting point is 01:14:52 Take care. Okay. On to body melt. What year was this? In 1996, something like that? I think 93. 93. Okay.
Starting point is 01:15:08 Residents of Peaceful Pebbles Court, Holmesville, are being used unknowingly as test experiments for a new body drug that causes rapid body decomposition and a painful death. I don't know if that's a fair. A fair description either. Director is Philip Brophy, also known for salt, saliva, sperm, and sweat. Hopefully, that's all one movie. I was going to say, is that four different movies? I don't know. Riders, or maybe worse as one movie, I don't know.
Starting point is 01:15:47 Writers are Philip Brophy and Rod Bishop. the filmmakers initially wanted to make an anthology movie but were unable to secure financing for it. That makes sense. How would this be an anthology movie, Charles? That's interesting because, you know, the whole inbreds might have been a separate... Yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:07 Ah, okay. Yeah, and then you got the end scene of the new improved formula sitting on shelves. It took me half to realize what was happening. I was like, what? Yeah, now I... What are all these things going on? I get it.
Starting point is 01:16:24 I get it, because you could have had like three or four different families getting the drug or whatever. Shot over the course of 30 days. This movie has over 400 shots in it. There you go. Damn. Charles, what did you think about body melt? All right, judging by what I thought of the first film,
Starting point is 01:16:45 am I going to like this or not? I think you will. I'm on the side that, yes, you're going to like this one. Are you a Kronenberg fan? Dude, absolutely. I loved this movie. I thought, holy cow, how was this not a midnight movie in the day when there were cult films being shown at midnight?
Starting point is 01:17:06 That's true. There's so much in that film that an audience can just, you know, have so much fun with. Some of the scenes, I mean, great camera angles, the coloring was really surprisingly good. could. The kills were, I mean, the best, uh, pregnant explosions, since it's, since it's alive. That's saying a lot. Dick, Dick, uh, dick, uh, dick explosions. Guys, this is, this was genius. Come on. This was everything a horror fan wants in the film. Inbreds, uh, who were funnier and, and potentially scarier than, you know, the hills have eyes.
Starting point is 01:17:48 I just everything, everything about this was an utter joy to watch. And I'm going to watch it again. I really loved it that much. What I thought that it laughed was it wanted to be funny. And there were times where it could have made off like there was soundtrack background music that was always Benny Hillish funny. Whereas it should have been suspense. I mean, there were some talk where you could have. had true horror instead of goof horror the whole time.
Starting point is 01:18:21 But as someone who, you know, who, I don't know, because, you know, it doesn't make sense that I hated the first one so much and loved this one so much. But I just, I would give it a nine. And I rarely give that kind of numbers on films. I loved it that much. Yeah, creativity. Along.
Starting point is 01:18:44 All right. Brian, what did you think about body melt? I loved it. I loved all the ridiculous body horror. And Charles, you mentioned the exploding penises. There was fucking living, moving mucuses. There was like a sentient placenta that was moving around. There was just all kinds of ridiculous.
Starting point is 01:19:05 And then the monster snot. Come on. Yes. And then. That was the grossest one. The Inbred family, the daughter was, was, uh, uh, And I had to look her up. That is a female actress, not a male actress, by the way.
Starting point is 01:19:23 Or an actor. Not a male actor. I bet all done up, she could be hot. But, you know, she's got the Deanderthal proud. Fill up. That one kid wasn't minding. That really was a female, though. I could have sworn to God.
Starting point is 01:19:43 Going back to Divine, guys, I could have sworn to God. I could have sworn to God that was a male, a drag, drag queen, right? Well, I thought one of the two... It's a female. I thought one of the two Hillbilly brothers was a girl. Yeah. Is it a guy or did you do your research? I didn't look those up.
Starting point is 01:20:01 I know what you're talking about, Charles. The kind of younger, kind of chubbier one. Yeah. Chubbrier one. Could have been either thing, right. Yeah, just the story is ridiculous. The music's ridiculous. just everything is just kind of
Starting point is 01:20:16 what I wanted in this movie and what about the bodybuilders they should have a voice like yours oh god genius we're here to break these people apart and this movie
Starting point is 01:20:35 had the balls to kill a kid that's what you fucking get for fucking rollerblading it was a great kill and his face was awesome and that. Great. Yeah, I don't know why this isn't really talked about as much. You should watch it for the practical effects alone.
Starting point is 01:20:57 I love practical effects, and this is nothing but practical effects. And then it's just funny to watch like the cheesy little computer graphics, and the music is just off the wall. I believe the guy that died in the car wrecked. I believe his testicles came alive and came out through his throat. Is that what that was? I believe so. Well, I have to watch it again just for that.
Starting point is 01:21:26 Yeah, this movie's worth two or three more views at least. Well, yeah. Because it's kind of insanity. Oh, I didn't even mention the mom where her tongue grew. super big that was the dumbest one Gene Simmons sued them for that one right
Starting point is 01:21:47 well Gene Simmons sues everybody but yeah I love this one too and this this is going to come to my collection too I found you got to go to vinegar syndrome which they do a lot of these kind of releases okay Lance what did you think
Starting point is 01:22:06 okay well I I've already gotten a lot of shit for saying that David Cronenberg's son is a better director than he is. So many people got mad at me. So many people came at me for saying that. Well, I mean, he only had like one movie. You know what? This movie is what David Cronenberg wishes he could be. This movie is the ultimate body horror.
Starting point is 01:22:36 the ultimate great practical effects, the ultimate, like you said, you got a fucking snot monster for fuck's sake. And you've got a fucking vulva coming alive. You've got nuts. I mean, this is fucking amazing. I did not know what I was getting into here. And yes, now this one I do understand that it's making social commentary on the fitness craze. It's making
Starting point is 01:23:07 social commentary on vitamin dealers. It's making social commentary on snike oil salesman that gets you go to the gym and take these vitamins and you'll be healthier and you'll be better. I saw all of it. I think it was just geniusly done.
Starting point is 01:23:24 I did not expect this good of a movie. I really didn't. And I didn't expect to have this much fun. And I've already told you, there's one character in this film that is so horrific. I had to look up is that a female or a male?
Starting point is 01:23:43 So just to give you an idea, this is a great movie. It really is a good... I'm just shocked with how much I enjoyed this, and it's so much fun. And this would be the ultimate. Put this movie on at a party. Get a bunch of people drinking.
Starting point is 01:24:04 Let's all smoke weed. you know, pass the pipe or whatever. And at mushrooms, Philip, we've been there done that, right? With Mandy. I imagine they inspired this movie a lot. I really loved it. I was going to say, this is the one we should have done in the commentary. Yeah, I was not expecting to enjoy this as much as I did.
Starting point is 01:24:25 I didn't, I've never really even heard of it before. And this is out of this world, a really, really, really great master Phil super, super, super low budget film. All right. I am going to say it is way better than I expected it to be, too. I don't know if it had a really direction that it was going. It was more like, hey, we've got a bunch of special effects guys. Let's put together some cool shit and make a movie out of it.
Starting point is 01:25:02 And the kills were amazing. love the practical effects in this movie. It was so fucking bonkers. This is one of those where I feel like it's probably so bad that it's good. And so bad that it's great. I think it should be... I would agree. I would agree.
Starting point is 01:25:20 It's not the room, but it's up there. Right. Yeah. Yeah, you know what? I would watch this more than I would watch the room. I have no problem turning around and watching this movie again right now. Because it was so... Like, there's so many just parts that are amazing and fun to watch.
Starting point is 01:25:43 And, again, the practical effects are fucking spot on. It's so fucking great. I might watch this movie again after we're doing recording, actually. Yeah. I mean, seriously, this is a lot of fun. I think we may need to set up a commentary for this one. This is fun to watch. I think so.
Starting point is 01:26:03 but yeah man I'm I'm definitely on board with it the story was a little disjointed I can see where they were maybe going for an anthology and and decided to tie it all together at the end but it worked and I'm surprised I've never heard of it same here I'm super I thought it was a commercial for you know something to lose fat with an actual you know that you guys were pulling play and went over my eyes. Let's bring on this mess with him, and we'll only talk about, you know, weight reduction here. But I got to tell you, I never heard of it. I'm so glad that this was one of the picks of this week, because I loved it, and I would not have seen it had you guys not, you know, turn me off to it.
Starting point is 01:26:53 Never, never, ever would have seen this movie in my life if Brian hadn't brought it up, period. And I love the title, Body Melt, and that ties into that all. that weight loss and all that. And that shit was really, really, really popular in the 80s and 90s. It still is, but we're not nearly to the point now. I mean, we've kind of let ourselves go,
Starting point is 01:27:16 right? Not only as a country, but as a whirl. So back then, that was really the end thing. And body melt means you're melting the fat off your body and getting fit, getting fit, getting fit. And then you see
Starting point is 01:27:31 those two fucking holsters, and they hear their voices. It's like, okay, yes, mommy, we're going to do what you tell us to. Just genius, genius. It really is way ahead of its time. Great movie. Yeah, agree. Beware of Vitamita Vigemin.
Starting point is 01:27:52 All right. Charles, what was your score on this one? Nine? Five to nine, man. Nine. All right. Brian? I'm going nine.
Starting point is 01:28:03 Nice. Damn, shit. Lance? I'm eight and a half. I'm almost there. It is definitely a genius film. I definitely love it, but it's missing a few things probably. It would have made me go a little bit higher,
Starting point is 01:28:24 but eight and a half, I think, is more than fair. Not enough testicles and placentas? Two more, and I would have been at nine. One more exploding dick. I'm going to give it at eight and a half too, man. I think it was great. I really enjoyed this one. Wow, who would have thought, huh?
Starting point is 01:28:44 This is a good week. We've got to watch some more Aussie movies. Yeah. And to think I was disappointed when it wasn't the orphan first kill, I'm like, oh, no, it's movies now I've never heard of. And, you know, it was all worth it for body milk. There you go. Yeah, so.
Starting point is 01:29:01 Brian, what's up with Orphan First Kill? Is that coming out soon or not? The only new thing I've heard is they were hyping up the practical effects in it. And that release date has since been removed from IMD. So they might still be in post-production. Like I said, I thought it was kind of odd that they haven't even released a poster or anything. Bad sign. Bad sign.
Starting point is 01:29:31 Well, the practical effects are definitely not going to be as good as they were in this. All right. Well, all right, Charles, thanks again for joining us, dude.
